- 0:59- This is Scott Becker with the Becker's Healthcare
- 1:01- podcast.
- 1:03- Today, we're gonna talk through eight of the
- 1:05- stories that we're watching in health care currently
- 1:07- that give you a sense of of what's
- 1:09- going on in health care.
- 1:12- The first story,
- 1:14- is a story where a Montana hospital
- 1:16- is trying to shift pediatric
- 1:18- ICU care to telehealth,
- 1:20- which is a constant evolution throughout health care
- 1:23- as people trying
- 1:24- to find ways to do workforce redesign
- 1:27- and find cheaper or easier ways to deliver
- 1:30- care
- 1:31- or ways in which
- 1:33- they're able to handle leveraging
- 1:36- physicians and clinicians
- 1:37- in a way that these can't even fill
- 1:39- spots currently.
- 1:41- This, of course, is drawing some clinician
- 1:43- pushback
- 1:44- as clinicians are scared that this may get
- 1:47- in the way of clinician jobs and also
- 1:50- impacts
- 1:51- negative impacts,
- 1:52- on essentially
- 1:54- clinical care. But, again, this is a sign
- 1:56- of the times if people move more things
- 1:59- towards
- 2:00- telehealth and other ways of doing things and
- 2:03- workforce redesign, work will redesign,
- 2:05- in that evolution.
- 2:07- The second Sarah we're watching is a story
- 2:09- that Jacob Emerson follows
- 2:11- on 24
- 2:13- plus health systems dropping Medicare Advantage plans.
- 2:16- Again, thus far, Medicare Advantage has been just
- 2:18- an unmitigated
- 2:19- disaster in in reality.
- 2:21- It costs more than traditional Medicare. It's killing
- 2:24- hospitals and health systems and providers in just
- 2:26- an absolute disaster. I know some people have
- 2:28- a different opinion of that, but that's our
- 2:31- perspective here. That's what's going on with Medicare
- 2:33- Advantage. More and more systems dropping out of
- 2:36- Medicare
- 2:37- Advantage.
- 2:39- Third, a story by Kristen Kuchno
- 2:41- about nine recent hospital and health system CEO
- 2:44- exits. We're starting to see more of their
- 2:46- turnover in the CEO spot, and we're expecting
- 2:48- to see more of that over the next
- 2:50- couple of years.
- 2:51- You know, it is is a certain generation
- 2:53- of CEO start to age out, start to
- 2:55- replace by a next generation.
- 2:58- Fourth, a story about artificial intelligence agents going
- 3:02- to off script,
- 3:03- and and health systems trying to deal with
- 3:05- this in real time and figure it in
- 3:06- real time.
- 3:07- Now, again,
- 3:09- people need this movement towards a GenTech AI
- 3:12- and trying to figure out the guardrails and
- 3:14- where it works, where it doesn't work is
- 3:16- a fascinating, fascinating situation.
- 3:19- Fifth, a lot of debates currently about rural
- 3:22- health care reform.
- 3:24- One of the articles posted recently and one
- 3:26- of the thoughts from one of the rural
- 3:27- health care leaders is
- 3:29- rip off the band aid and start over.
- 3:32- I think in reality, there's not really an
- 3:35- easy answer
- 3:37- to rural health care reform,
- 3:39- in in in part
- 3:40- because at at the end of the day
- 3:42- in terms of rural health care, there's, you
- 3:45- know, just not enough supply and there's not
- 3:47- enough demands in a lot of places or
- 3:48- or you cannot match those things up very
- 3:50- easily, particularly as more and more physicians, nurses,
- 3:53- clinicians wanna move to the top 50 biggest
- 3:56- metro areas in the country.
- 3:59- The next story, GLP one findings, things to
- 4:01- know by, journalist Ella Jeffries.
- 4:04- And again, a a fascinating take on sort
- 4:06- of what's going on with GLP ones.
- 4:08- A lot of the benefits so far in
- 4:10- in a in a lot of challenges too.
- 4:12- The next story we're following, I think this
- 4:14- is number seven.
- 4:16- Luigi Mangione,
- 4:18- the person who murdered the CEO of UnitedHealthcare,
- 4:22- is gonna try and use the psychiatric defense
- 4:24- in in
- 4:26- killing,
- 4:27- in at least the state case, a fascinating
- 4:30- horrendous
- 4:30- situation.
- 4:32- Finally, one other thing we'll we'll we'll note,
- 4:36- a couple different stories about high earners, low
- 4:39- supply that we're watching, 27 specialties ranked by
- 4:42- pay and shortages.
- 4:44- We're also watching the Ebola case count rise,
- 4:47- not yet horrible.
- 4:49- And finally, discussion about Providence winding down their
- 4:52- insurance business, which is again a sign of
- 4:54- the times as more and more of the
- 4:55- large health systems find that being in the
- 4:58- insurance business is really, really challenging and hard
- 5:00- to win at compared to the scale of
- 5:03- the major major players that are out there.
- 5:05- In any event, thank you for listening to
- 5:07- the Becker's Healthcare podcast.
- 5:09- Thank you so much. We appreciate your listenership.
- 5:12- Thank you.
