- 0:07Speaker 1: Asad from FRANKENBAC.
- 0:22Speaker 2: You know me, and I'm Adam from franken Bok, and
- 0:26Speaker 2: I know him and I know him.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I think I know both. I know both of you.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I haven't met one of years, but I know both
- 0:31Speaker 3: of you. So we're off to a good start.
- 0:34Speaker 4: You're in for a treat.
- 0:37Speaker 5: So we're here today for for a couple of reasons.
- 0:39Speaker 5: But I was un a way of franken Boc underwegs.
- 0:42Speaker 5: Vocals changed in twenty twenty four, but instead of trying
- 0:45Speaker 5: to blood fresh meat, you decided to hand the microphone
- 0:48Speaker 5: back to your.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Original voker Hatchy.
- 0:50Speaker 5: So didn't anyone ever tell you as that you never
- 0:52Speaker 5: take your wife back after she was cheated on you?
- 0:56Speaker 6: Yeah, they did not listen to anybody on what they
- 0:58Speaker 6: call an asshole. I kind of ask everybody for advice
- 1:02Speaker 6: and I take none of it.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Not that anyone would have told you not to get
- 1:06Speaker 3: Hutchie back though.
- 1:06Speaker 7: Of course.
- 1:09Speaker 4: It's a big secret. But a few people said that
- 1:12Speaker 4: we should.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We both have a real self esteems and don't think
- 1:16Speaker 2: we can do any better, so it's almost like a
- 1:18Speaker 2: full circle thing.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I guess it's pretty funny. I've been keeping this one
- 1:22Speaker 3: in my back pocket for a while as it.
- 1:24Speaker 5: But I remember about two and a half years ago,
- 1:26Speaker 5: I was sitting in that very same spot where you
- 1:27Speaker 5: are now. You were playing me the original is with Hush.
- 1:33Speaker 5: I was buying away and I just said to you,
- 1:34Speaker 5: why the fuck did you get rid of this gun?
- 1:36Speaker 5: And you didn't really have an answer for me. But
- 1:39Speaker 5: I hope one day you need to end up working
- 1:41Speaker 5: together again. And at the time it couldn't.
- 1:45Speaker 4: It didn't have a big enough beard.
- 1:47Speaker 6: And since then he's sort of, you know, extended, So
- 1:51Speaker 6: it's time to extend the hand of friendship.
- 1:55Speaker 5: And that sort of started with the twenty fifth anniversary
- 1:58Speaker 5: Frank last year. That's where we're all sort of kick
- 2:01Speaker 5: back into gear again.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah, very much.
- 2:04Speaker 6: So there was lots of talk about the twenty fifth
- 2:06Speaker 6: anniversary beforehand, and I was always like, yeah, I don't know,
- 2:10Speaker 6: I can actually sort of happened because like being hutchey,
- 2:12Speaker 6: just we're talking. We hadn't talked for almost twenty years
- 2:15Speaker 6: or something like that. I think we said, hey, tell HOUCHI.
- 2:18Speaker 6: I said fuck you, and I think he said tell us.
- 2:20Speaker 6: I said fucking back.
- 2:21Speaker 4: There's a bit of that sort of correspondence.
- 2:25Speaker 6: We played a game at the Cherry Bar and somebody
- 2:28Speaker 6: said Hutche is here and I went, yeah, right, and
- 2:31Speaker 6: I'd been seeing Hutch's artwork, so I just went. As
- 2:35Speaker 6: I was loading, gearing in and out, I said, okay,
- 2:36Speaker 6: we grabbed the next load, and it's what passed them
- 2:40Speaker 6: were man, love you right work, let's uh, let's have
- 2:43Speaker 6: to go out being maticgin or something like that.
- 2:45Speaker 2: It was a really cathartic kind of moment for me
- 2:47Speaker 2: personally as well, because I turned up to Cherry Barn
- 2:50Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, thank a, what the plans?
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know, it's not the mood for any bullshit, and yeah,
- 2:55Speaker 2: Aarons walked straight up to be a little bit dead
- 2:57Speaker 2: in the eye, extended his hand and just yes, said
- 2:59Speaker 2: some really nice words and just diffuse the situation. And
- 3:03Speaker 2: for me personally, yeah, it just felt like a whole
- 3:04Speaker 2: weight to lift it off. I was like, oh my god,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know, it was really great. I mean, I made
- 3:08Speaker 2: my piece many years ago, but we just obviously hadn't
- 3:11Speaker 2: spoken for a while.
- 3:12Speaker 7: But it was good and it sort of started.
- 3:14Speaker 2: That sort of next step for the things that came
- 3:18Speaker 2: to follow, and yeah, yeah, I don't know if I
- 3:21Speaker 2: really believe in destiny, not to quote, you know, near
- 3:24Speaker 2: from the matrix, but I like to think I've been
- 3:26Speaker 2: controlling my own life. But actually a lot of things
- 3:28Speaker 2: that have been happening has been scarily sort of almost
- 3:31Speaker 2: like destiny, like the god had thunder or something.
- 3:32Speaker 7: This is all sort of meant to be. It's very
- 3:34Speaker 7: very strange.
- 3:35Speaker 6: But I would just like to say, be very careful
- 3:37Speaker 6: who you extend your hand to.
- 3:41Speaker 4: This is what happens.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Are you going to take better care yourself? We all
- 3:46Speaker 3: know that.
- 3:47Speaker 4: I know, I know.
- 3:51Speaker 3: You might learn, but I actually heard that you didn't.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Really have much of a choice in getting hut When
- 3:55Speaker 5: you got on stage in the twenty fifth anniversary, you
- 3:57Speaker 5: refused to give the microphone to anyone, just took.
- 4:00Speaker 7: It my turn to talk. I don't know. It was
- 4:03Speaker 7: really strange coming back.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I mean, I never in my wil imagination thought that
- 4:08Speaker 2: we would be friends again.
- 4:09Speaker 7: You'll let alone get back on the stage with Frankenbak,
- 4:12Speaker 7: And it was.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Quite strange and daunting for me because I hadn't been
- 4:15Speaker 2: on stage for probably twelve thirteen years since my last
- 4:18Speaker 2: band I had had sort of split up, and I
- 4:21Speaker 2: was quite nervous, and I love my food. I couldn't
- 4:23Speaker 2: eat and I didn't have one out sip of alcohol
- 4:26Speaker 2: that night as well, and kind of went out and
- 4:28Speaker 2: then just it just it's sort of like muscle memory,
- 4:30Speaker 2: It just sort of all comes back to you nacturally.
- 4:32Speaker 7: But it was really great and the show was awesome.
- 4:35Speaker 2: It was one of the best gigs I've ever been
- 4:36Speaker 2: to in my entire life in a local sense, and
- 4:39Speaker 2: I was just so stoked.
- 4:40Speaker 7: And proud to have been a part of it.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Like Aaron and Dan did an amazing job organizing everything,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and all the lineups were killer. It was a really
- 4:46Speaker 2: good turnout, and yeah, it was great, really good night.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Well, so what's a mate together? Guys?
- 4:53Speaker 5: You wasted a little time getting your first single out
- 4:55Speaker 5: by releasing Demon Tantrument in late October.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I remember it was a ferocious return before that song.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But why did you pick that.
- 5:02Speaker 5: One specifically to introduce the new line up of Franken Bok.
- 5:05Speaker 6: I guess well, we didn't really sort of, It wasn't
- 5:11Speaker 6: a choice of several that was ready, that was done
- 5:15Speaker 6: that was almost like supposed to be possibly even demo.
- 5:19Speaker 6: Is it just something that we were working with and
- 5:21Speaker 6: at the stage that it was in, there's lots of
- 5:24Speaker 6: us that were listening to it.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Going, why don't we just release that?
- 5:26Speaker 8: It's it's good enough and sort of it wasn't kind
- 5:32Speaker 8: of built for release. But then I don't know if
- 5:35Speaker 8: I was convinced, but you know, after it was playing it,
- 5:37Speaker 8: guys were sort of playing it to me a lot
- 5:39Speaker 8: and going.
- 5:39Speaker 4: What's wrong with it? You know, you're right, there's nothing
- 5:42Speaker 4: wrong with it.
- 5:42Speaker 6: So we kind of did a bit of a a
- 5:46Speaker 6: road test and just said to a cup people and
- 5:49Speaker 6: thought what do you think? And all the yeah, everything
- 5:54Speaker 6: came back good from it as far as you know,
- 5:56Speaker 6: everyone liked it. Everyone was happy with the quality of it,
- 5:58Speaker 6: et cetera, et cetera. Went well, why we while were.
- 6:01Speaker 4: We sitting on this?
- 6:02Speaker 6: And one of my greatest fears these days is I
- 6:07Speaker 6: hate when great art or great ideas that have been
- 6:10Speaker 6: worked in and you know, slaved over and put time into,
- 6:14Speaker 6: sometimes end up becoming nothing. They wasn't quite right or
- 6:19Speaker 6: it wasn't perfect, you know, and then it ends up
- 6:23Speaker 6: being just a file of a dead file and a
- 6:25Speaker 6: hard drive that nobody every years and we're like the
- 6:27Speaker 6: attitude that we've got now is kind of like, let's
- 6:31Speaker 6: just you know, let's just float everything. Let's give life
- 6:35Speaker 6: to everything that we've got, rather than you know, waiting
- 6:38Speaker 6: until it's ready and never being ready and they're just dying.
- 6:41Speaker 9: You know.
- 6:42Speaker 2: It's also something of something that could have potentially been
- 6:45Speaker 2: in like an alternate universe, I guess for Frankenbach. After
- 6:49Speaker 2: the twenty fifth anniversary show, Dan was interested in doing
- 6:51Speaker 2: a release with him and me doing dual vocals on it,
- 6:55Speaker 2: and we did a couple of geeks together sort of
- 6:57Speaker 2: doing that as well, and that was sort of the
- 7:00Speaker 2: first song we'd worked on, and it's something that was
- 7:02Speaker 2: the best sort the worst song or anythink. It was
- 7:03Speaker 2: just something we'd done. It was, I guess, something complete
- 7:06Speaker 2: and I felt personally captured something there and I was
- 7:10Speaker 2: proud of it.
- 7:11Speaker 7: I thought, I thought it came out really really cool.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It was just its own beast, and so I guess
- 7:15Speaker 2: whilst we were sort of working in the background to
- 7:17Speaker 2: get other things really like working on the EP and
- 7:19Speaker 2: the other singles and stuff, I just thought this would
- 7:22Speaker 2: be a greenish reduction back to me coming back to
- 7:24Speaker 2: the band and stuff and just seeing what people think,
- 7:27Speaker 2: you know, just to buy some time, I guess as
- 7:29Speaker 2: well too.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Refreshing and brutal as that song.
- 7:33Speaker 5: You threw a complete curve ball with the second single,
- 7:35Speaker 5: which was a cover of right Round by Dead or Alive?
- 7:38Speaker 3: Like, how was the response to that? No, Franken back.
- 7:42Speaker 5: That's emphatic proofing back time to go forward musically, But.
- 7:46Speaker 3: How did people reactuate.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Good?
- 7:50Speaker 6: I think depends on like you're talking about, you know,
- 7:54Speaker 6: most people that are open and just you know, to
- 7:57Speaker 6: have a laugh, sounspeak or not too serious. I think
- 8:00Speaker 6: that was the whole thing, and that's, you know, our
- 8:03Speaker 6: whole new thing that was sort of getting back to
- 8:05Speaker 6: Frankenbok was originally like yeah, you know, those elements are
- 8:10Speaker 6: very heavy and was sort of serious about the music,
- 8:12Speaker 6: but then there's also not so much.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Comedy but just have a good time.
- 8:17Speaker 6: And the way it even come about was not anything
- 8:21Speaker 6: strategically planned.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I think I was laying on the couch talking to
- 8:24Speaker 4: Utch you on the phone, and.
- 8:26Speaker 6: I had the wedding scene was on in the background,
- 8:29Speaker 6: and I heard that song and I just said to him, oh, Chiez,
- 8:33Speaker 6: I've always I've always wanted to cover that song. I
- 8:34Speaker 6: reckon I'd make a great goal cover and actually just
- 8:39Speaker 6: encouraged me. He just said, well, why don't you why
- 8:41Speaker 6: don't we work it out, Why don't we just do that?
- 8:42Speaker 6: And I went, wait a minute, this has changed, you know,
- 8:45Speaker 6: like it's back to like we can do anything we want.
- 8:48Speaker 6: And so I kind of worked it out as best
- 8:53Speaker 6: I could, said it to him, and almost over ninety
- 8:55Speaker 6: sent back the version with vocals stund and were kind
- 9:00Speaker 6: of like, wow, that sort of happened out of a
- 9:02Speaker 6: sort of you.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Know, just a conversation, and it felt it was enjoyable
- 9:07Speaker 4: and fun.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I pretty much what he said, but I thought it
- 9:11Speaker 2: was kind of funny too, in a sense of sort
- 9:12Speaker 2: of fucking with people.
- 9:13Speaker 7: Because Frankenbok has been quite this serious.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Launch sort of metal banners, it was kind of cool
- 9:19Speaker 2: to bring some of the fun back and some of
- 9:20Speaker 2: the versatility I guess back from sort of my ear
- 9:23Speaker 2: as well. And one thing that sort of Aaron and
- 9:26Speaker 2: I was sort of discussing in the background, but before
- 9:29Speaker 2: me rejoining was just a lot of ideas seem to
- 9:31Speaker 2: be getting blocked by certain members over the years, like
- 9:35Speaker 2: certain people just weren't down to doing certain things, and
- 9:38Speaker 2: whereas I'm sort of I am open to anything, Like
- 9:40Speaker 2: at the end of the day, my whole philosophy has changed.
- 9:42Speaker 2: I'm just like, well, someone's got an idea, let's just
- 9:45Speaker 2: see what happens. Let's just put it out there and
- 9:47Speaker 2: execute it and if it hey, if it doesn't work.
- 9:49Speaker 7: We don't have to put it out.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But you know, I think it's just a great way
- 9:52Speaker 2: for everyone when you're collaborating with you know, four people
- 9:55Speaker 2: or x amount of people, to get everyone's ideas out there,
- 9:58Speaker 2: because I mean, what's the point of it if one
- 10:00Speaker 2: person is just steering the ship all the time, Like
- 10:01Speaker 2: it's it's a collaboration. You can't have this without the
- 10:05Speaker 2: other three guys. So yeah, and I'm just where my
- 10:08Speaker 2: headspace is that now. It's just like, let's just whatever,
- 10:10Speaker 2: let's just try whatever. And you know, the not to
- 10:13Speaker 2: get off track, but the film clip that we've just
- 10:15Speaker 2: done that's coming out on Australia, it's that wasn't my idea,
- 10:19Speaker 2: but I went with it and we all did, and
- 10:20Speaker 2: we all put into it and the results come out
- 10:23Speaker 2: something beyond my expectations and something I never would have
- 10:26Speaker 2: thought of. So it's really opened my mind up even
- 10:30Speaker 2: more so to just you know, respecting people where they're
- 10:33Speaker 2: coming from, and.
- 10:35Speaker 7: Yeah, just having to go with everything. I mean, why
- 10:38Speaker 7: not it's you know.
- 10:39Speaker 6: It's yeah, entertaining each other's idea rather than shooting it
- 10:42Speaker 6: down before you've heard it out. And even with the
- 10:44Speaker 6: with that particular song said it wasn't strategic by any means.
- 10:48Speaker 6: But then with How'd You Coming Back In? It was
- 10:52Speaker 6: very reminiscent of I Don't Call Me Baby in a way,
- 10:54Speaker 6: you know, a cover, a silly cover, our silly take
- 10:57Speaker 6: on it, and you know what, this is a good
- 10:59Speaker 6: way to sort of say.
- 11:01Speaker 4: The dick heads are back. You know.
- 11:05Speaker 6: It's it's not as there's a there's enough serious bands
- 11:10Speaker 6: out there doing what they do and all that, and
- 11:13Speaker 6: I've got nothing against that, but it's it's actually probably
- 11:17Speaker 6: not really you know me, not exactly super serious person.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Not in the slightest hutch You the story about our
- 11:26Speaker 5: lady being in Japan with Don't Call Me Baby?
- 11:29Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yes, when we were in Japan.
- 11:33Speaker 3: The day and he said what song do you want
- 11:35Speaker 3: me to play?
- 11:35Speaker 5: And you've given him a list of about six and
- 11:38Speaker 5: when we turned up that night, the first Don't Call
- 11:40Speaker 5: Me Baby wasn't on there By the way and the
- 11:42Speaker 5: band hadn't done it for years, and he's jumped up
- 11:44Speaker 5: on stage with the mic and you just.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Don't call me baby.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Everyone just looked at each other and that wasn't on
- 11:50Speaker 5: the fucking list.
- 11:53Speaker 6: Triumph, and he just said, now we're going to do
- 11:55Speaker 6: an a cappella version don't call me baby, And I'm like,
- 11:57Speaker 6: fucking are we And he's a pretty big guy and
- 12:01Speaker 6: he just started. He just started doing it, and Damn
- 12:05Speaker 6: White joined in, and then I think Tommy joined in.
- 12:10Speaker 6: By the end, I think we ended up doing like
- 12:11Speaker 6: the whole song and then we then we broke into
- 12:15Speaker 6: Triumph and of other songs and that's what he throwed
- 12:18Speaker 6: me across the stage.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Good times.
- 12:23Speaker 5: Now along those lines where we're talking about before, Frankie
- 12:26Speaker 5: Bot's had a few different vocalists over the years. It's
- 12:28Speaker 5: fair to say that with every incoming vocalist, the band's
- 12:32Speaker 5: sound has changed.
- 12:32Speaker 3: A little bit, like musically vocals.
- 12:34Speaker 5: But now hutchings back, you've gone more back to the
- 12:37Speaker 5: original sound. But was that something you discussed and say
- 12:41Speaker 5: we want to go back to that sound again.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Or did it just come out.
- 12:45Speaker 4: No, like that.
- 12:48Speaker 6: Started straight after we wrote Overdose or even sort of
- 12:51Speaker 6: during Overdose, me and Tommy had talked a lot about
- 12:55Speaker 6: the kind of music we wanted to write, and we
- 12:58Speaker 6: were when you know, certain members left and you know,
- 13:01Speaker 6: with the band got smaller, we were trying to play
- 13:04Speaker 6: a lot of the old songs, which are two guitar orientated,
- 13:06Speaker 6: and it sort of almost felt like we were kind
- 13:08Speaker 6: of like a freak of cover band. And like with Overdose,
- 13:12Speaker 6: we went, you know what, I'm gonna sit down and
- 13:14Speaker 6: write songs the like represent the band that we are now,
- 13:21Speaker 6: and we kind of we kind of did that an
- 13:23Speaker 6: overdose and enjoyed that direction.
- 13:27Speaker 4: But then I guess me and Tommy talked a lot
- 13:30Speaker 4: about like.
- 13:33Speaker 6: The groove in the songs and all that sort of stuff.
- 13:35Speaker 6: I mean, you know, there's the there's the heavy stuff,
- 13:37Speaker 6: but we kind of wanted to focus on writing songs
- 13:42Speaker 6: that make people want to move all the time, and
- 13:43Speaker 6: if that's sort of like a salsa feel or you know,
- 13:47Speaker 6: just whatever, I want to make sure that it makes people,
- 13:49Speaker 6: even in voluntaries tap, you know, tap their foot or
- 13:52Speaker 6: bob their head. And very inspired by band snot just
- 14:00Speaker 6: a couple of other bands with like you know, the
- 14:02Speaker 6: big griffs and you know, keeping that groove happening to
- 14:06Speaker 6: sort of.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Washing's great and all, but we kind of wanted to
- 14:10Speaker 4: make people dance.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Devin Tantrum and You've got me right around were advertisers
- 14:15Speaker 5: for the main Course Really, which will be served on
- 14:17Speaker 5: January thirty first, with the release of the first EP
- 14:21Speaker 5: with this lineup, titled Irrepressible.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Like that's a big word, is fuck? You say? Why
- 14:27Speaker 3: call the album?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Both magic fans and just basically getting back to know
- 14:34Speaker 2: knowing Aaron and stuff and just sort of conversations. You know,
- 14:36Speaker 2: I'm obviously morbidly curious about what the band's been and
- 14:39Speaker 2: done over the years, and the band has survived a
- 14:41Speaker 2: light like just getting back to each album the way
- 14:44Speaker 2: it sounds to me, it's all like a different season
- 14:45Speaker 2: of Doctor Who.
- 14:46Speaker 7: There's this No. Two. I personally don't think any No.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Two Franko Bok albums have been the same, even the
- 14:51Speaker 2: two that I were on, and the band has been
- 14:53Speaker 2: so much there's nothing that can kill this band, especially
- 14:55Speaker 2: with this guy still in it.
- 14:58Speaker 7: Yeah, so yeah, I don't know.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I think we had a bunch of titles and I
- 15:02Speaker 2: think one night we're on the phone and I think
- 15:05Speaker 2: Aaron Habby on loudspeaker with his wife and then one
- 15:08Speaker 2: of the names I had was irrepressible, and they go, yeah,
- 15:10Speaker 2: that's the one she was with me.
- 15:12Speaker 1: By the way, she wasn't here.
- 15:16Speaker 6: I think also had to add to that is when
- 15:18Speaker 6: me and I started talking again, we went straight back
- 15:22Speaker 6: to our stupid ship with you know, we're talking about
- 15:25Speaker 6: monkey Magic, and we've both got a love for like
- 15:28Speaker 6: things back in the eighties of you know, we're always
- 15:31Speaker 6: like quote monkey Magic, and we're you know, just lots
- 15:34Speaker 6: of the old pop culture and all that, like you know,
- 15:37Speaker 6: was on about toys and you know, Bloody the A
- 15:39Speaker 6: Team and just you know, eighties movies and stuff like
- 15:43Speaker 6: that have sort of never dined with.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Us very as well.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Before we let you go, I'm not going to let
- 15:48Speaker 5: you get away without doing our regular photo bomb sections.
- 15:52Speaker 5: So basically I've been prolling through social media trying to
- 15:55Speaker 5: find some good photos and you guys are a fucking
- 15:58Speaker 5: easy target.
- 15:59Speaker 4: So can time to find a good one.
- 16:02Speaker 5: I know I haven't actually had the pleasure of meeting
- 16:04Speaker 5: you and pressed yet, but I already know that you
- 16:07Speaker 5: can't jump this time, mate, Like how photos dropped?
- 16:10Speaker 3: Is that getting that far off the ground. They jumped
- 16:12Speaker 3: that high?
- 16:14Speaker 7: He does. I had there's a hot dog or something
- 16:16Speaker 7: out there, But yeah, I jumped for it.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Can't jump.
- 16:20Speaker 4: White man can jump.
- 16:22Speaker 3: It's not actually white there is he You put.
- 16:24Speaker 4: A rocket under their ass, that.
- 16:29Speaker 7: Is that's that's us jumping.
- 16:31Speaker 4: That's totally legit. Oh what a feeling ebowler.
- 16:36Speaker 5: That's actually the cover of Irrepressible, isn't it.
- 16:41Speaker 6: It was that Yeah, that photo shoot was yeah, from
- 16:43Speaker 6: that same thing, and I was the one that couldn't jump.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Everybody like jump in the air, jump in the air.
- 16:49Speaker 4: If you zoom in or have a look.
- 16:50Speaker 6: At some of the other photos there, my hand kind
- 16:53Speaker 6: of looks like a knee. That's what I've broken my
- 16:55Speaker 6: hand just before then, and they're like jump.
- 16:58Speaker 4: In the air, and I'm like, fuck mate, I got
- 17:00Speaker 4: to he like a pack of the chips.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Here, And I'm just that those photos were taken by
- 17:04Speaker 2: a really good friend of mine. Jay Collie is an
- 17:06Speaker 2: amazing photographer, so look him up.
- 17:08Speaker 7: He does really really good work.
- 17:10Speaker 5: To say before that, Owen the bass player is a
- 17:13Speaker 5: bit of a gun at everything he does. That even
- 17:16Speaker 5: is that even includes nipple cramps?
- 17:21Speaker 4: Well, can you tell me that he's not good at that.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I'm not I'm not saying he's not good at it.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But the film that we we decided to celebrate, but
- 17:31Speaker 2: we couldn't afford his strippers, so no one stepped up good.
- 17:35Speaker 5: I was actually going to say that maybe he's getting
- 17:37Speaker 5: a bit upset that all the focus has been on
- 17:39Speaker 5: Hutchings a new guy lately, and no one's paying him
- 17:41Speaker 5: any attention.
- 17:42Speaker 3: But he's doing his best to get it.
- 17:44Speaker 7: You mean, Owen is a competition. He's He's all hunk
- 17:46Speaker 7: and I'm all hutch.
- 17:47Speaker 6: Yeah, we're a one's got a genre that he wants
- 17:50Speaker 6: to sort of creator, which he's sort of creating himself.
- 17:53Speaker 6: And there's you know, there's grind metal, and there's post
- 17:55Speaker 6: this and post that, and then he wants to start
- 17:57Speaker 6: this whole hunk metal and basically like Chipping was playing metal,
- 18:01Speaker 6: and you know, he's putting himself forward and he's doing
- 18:03Speaker 6: a good job.
- 18:04Speaker 7: The best thing of the new film clip is his arm.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Yes, hetero arm.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Oh you're gonna tell us what it is or does
- 18:09Speaker 3: we have to go and watch it?
- 18:11Speaker 6: No, it's just so muscular and fucking beautiful. It's the
- 18:14Speaker 6: kind of grabs. It's the kind of arm that if
- 18:16Speaker 6: they grab a hold of you kind of don't want
- 18:18Speaker 6: to get out of.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Right, Well, what would a photo bomb be without a
- 18:24Speaker 5: photo of a good friend Azer as well?
- 18:28Speaker 3: What the fuck?
- 18:29Speaker 4: Ah? That was when I was giving birth to my
- 18:34Speaker 4: fifteenth child and I called him Feasible.
- 18:39Speaker 10: Now that was uh we we we did the video,
- 18:45Speaker 10: we did the photo shoot was the day that I
- 18:47Speaker 10: broke my hand, and that was the following Monday, right
- 18:53Speaker 10: after I woke up from surgery on my hand.
- 18:56Speaker 5: Right, although did is that the look you make when
- 18:59Speaker 5: they pull your trousers and say, look at your snake?
- 19:03Speaker 7: It's most stick in his stummer?
- 19:08Speaker 6: It was, yeah, yeah, you know, you know what happens
- 19:11Speaker 6: is there's actually I it's my annual break.
- 19:15Speaker 4: I break something because I care that much.
- 19:18Speaker 6: They say break break a leg, you know, so I'm
- 19:21Speaker 6: make sure I break right before every album, right before
- 19:23Speaker 6: every tour.
- 19:24Speaker 3: They say break a leg. It's not meant to be
- 19:25Speaker 3: taken literally.
- 19:27Speaker 4: No, but you know I'm not not exactly a respect
- 19:29Speaker 4: the failing hazard book.
- 19:31Speaker 9: Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 6: For years I was known instead of ASID. I used
- 19:34Speaker 6: to get Scotty Scotty Buff, the old guitar. See he
- 19:39Speaker 6: always referred to me, ay has it.
- 19:42Speaker 2: He's breaking stuff since ninety seven when I was first
- 19:44Speaker 2: in the Benny.
- 19:45Speaker 7: It was the first guitarist ever played with. They used
- 19:47Speaker 7: to really stress me out.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I'm like, man, you should be protecting your hands and
- 19:50Speaker 2: wearing gloves and stuff. And they were having a barbecue.
- 19:52Speaker 2: He's changing coals with his hands and you know, looking
- 19:54Speaker 2: at them there.
- 19:55Speaker 4: They're big strong heads, you know.
- 19:58Speaker 7: Stuff.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Now, there's only five tracks on the Irrepressible album ep mate,
- 20:11Speaker 5: so I want to run through it one at the time,
- 20:12Speaker 5: but tell us a bit more and where they fit
- 20:15Speaker 5: in with franken Bock in twenty twenty five. Like the
- 20:18Speaker 5: first one is Dope for Meat, which is going to
- 20:20Speaker 5: be premiered by a heavy at five thirty pm on Saturday,
- 20:24Speaker 5: January twenty fourth, So tell us about that song, about.
- 20:29Speaker 4: The music side of it.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Typical by writing, I guess I often write songs not
- 20:37Speaker 6: so much.
- 20:38Speaker 4: With the melody in mind.
- 20:40Speaker 6: I'll hear something that I really enjoyed the beat two
- 20:43Speaker 6: and I was probably listening to ninety eight point five
- 20:47Speaker 6: Apple FM Community Radio. I was listening to probably something
- 20:50Speaker 6: that like that, and I listened to a lot of
- 20:52Speaker 6: different styles, and I'm pretty sure I was listening to
- 20:54Speaker 6: something along the soulsa thing that just had me sort
- 20:57Speaker 6: of bopping, and I went, I like that feel.
- 20:59Speaker 4: I like that feel.
- 20:59Speaker 6: And then with that in my mind, that first riff
- 21:03Speaker 6: sort of came along and you know, there's a bit
- 21:06Speaker 6: of that and then and then it sort of goes
- 21:10Speaker 6: back to this sort of the blues feel and then
- 21:12Speaker 6: it sort of, yeah, goes back into that. I guess
- 21:15Speaker 6: I was just keeping that kind of danceable thing in mind.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Very funky bassline. It reminded me a lot of stupid
- 21:22Speaker 3: boy smart.
- 21:24Speaker 6: And again back to the eighties and back to the
- 21:26Speaker 6: nineties and all that sort of shit. Like, you know,
- 21:29Speaker 6: having Owen joined the band, it was like, oh, it's
- 21:32Speaker 6: like franken Bok got its original sound back again. That
- 21:35Speaker 6: was just, you know, not really a planned thing. But
- 21:39Speaker 6: Owen is a bit of a gun at anything that
- 21:41Speaker 6: he does. And I was sort of telling to him
- 21:45Speaker 6: that I really liked the slap stuff. I really love
- 21:47Speaker 6: the stuff slap stuff, and I played him a lot
- 21:49Speaker 6: of Billy Gould and all that, and I went like,
- 21:51Speaker 6: you know, there's one guitar in this band. Now, I
- 21:54Speaker 6: don't want the bass to be back up. I want
- 21:55Speaker 6: you to go to town and do whatever you can do,
- 21:57Speaker 6: and they should be like a lead instrument as well.
- 22:00Speaker 6: Was like like this, but I'm like exactly like that,
- 22:04Speaker 6: and he just murders it.
- 22:05Speaker 4: He's great at it, you know. So going back to
- 22:08Speaker 4: that catching a bit of the nineties metal.
- 22:11Speaker 6: Thing, you know, and that might be uncool for some,
- 22:14Speaker 6: but things get so uncool they've become cool again.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I'm waiting for my to become cool, but.
- 22:20Speaker 3: I wait too long. The second one on there is
- 22:25Speaker 3: called I Woke? Is that? Is that a bit of
- 22:28Speaker 3: a piss take on the white generation.
- 22:32Speaker 2: That in the iPhone? Yeah, I've had a bunch of
- 22:36Speaker 2: lyrics and laying around over the last couple of years.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I was asked to join two bands, and so I
- 22:41Speaker 2: had a back catalog of lyrics and stuff.
- 22:42Speaker 7: And yeah, me personally, like we're a generation that.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Grew up with like South Park and the Simpsons and
- 22:48Speaker 2: Family Guy, And it just boggles my mind just how
- 22:52Speaker 2: easy some people get offended at at certain things. I Mean,
- 22:55Speaker 2: I'm the kind of person nothing really offends me unless
- 22:58Speaker 2: you don't say please or thank you or you know
- 23:00Speaker 2: that poor manners offend me.
- 23:02Speaker 7: But everyone's different.
- 23:03Speaker 2: It's all subjective, I guess, but yeah, just how watered
- 23:06Speaker 2: down we're all becoming. And just you know, obviously you know,
- 23:09Speaker 2: I'm not homophobic or transphobic or anything, but people things
- 23:14Speaker 2: in like self Park, they go there and and it
- 23:16Speaker 2: kind of makes me laugh that people.
- 23:17Speaker 7: Will go there in sense of humor.
- 23:19Speaker 2: You don't have to agree with it, but yeah, that's
- 23:23Speaker 2: just kind of where I'm coming from. I just think,
- 23:25Speaker 2: here we're turning into a bunch of fucking weird, weak cunts,
- 23:28Speaker 2: and it's just it's stupid. Like and you know, a
- 23:31Speaker 2: great comedian that I like, Steve Hughes, he said, you know,
- 23:33Speaker 2: once said like what offensive is subjective. What's offensive to
- 23:36Speaker 2: you may not be offensive to me, and vice versa.
- 23:39Speaker 2: And I really like that whole philosophy on that. Like, yeah,
- 23:43Speaker 2: I just and it's just a very small amount of
- 23:46Speaker 2: people that are being very loud and we all up
- 23:49Speaker 2: the cater to what they feel, and it's it's like, yeah,
- 23:52Speaker 2: I don't anyway, I don't want to get myself into
- 23:53Speaker 2: much trouble, but yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 5: One of the sets in trouble talking about it, I
- 23:58Speaker 5: should have pointed this out out.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Like you notice that nothing.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Okay, the someone EP is called the Fallen Phoenix. Tell
- 24:09Speaker 3: us about that, okay?
- 24:14Speaker 4: Music wise, Yeah, that's that's an interesting one for me.
- 24:19Speaker 6: We went through some some life stuff. I remember Tommy
- 24:24Speaker 6: was sort of well with struggling financially a little bit
- 24:27Speaker 6: at the time and just s of say, mate, I'm
- 24:29Speaker 6: having trouble, like, you know, doing everything I do and
- 24:31Speaker 6: and paying for you know, everything that you have to
- 24:35Speaker 6: pay for being in the band, rehearsals and you know,
- 24:37Speaker 6: touring and all that. And he's like, I'm sort of
- 24:40Speaker 6: struggling and I don't know if I can sort of
- 24:41Speaker 6: do this at the moment. And we kind of went, well,
- 24:44Speaker 6: you know what, let's rather than he was team Tommy's
- 24:48Speaker 6: a real team player, and he was saying, I don't
- 24:49Speaker 6: want to hold the band up because I'm going through things.
- 24:52Speaker 6: Maybe we should get somebody else and you know, until
- 24:54Speaker 6: I'm ready, and I'm like not really into doing that.
- 24:57Speaker 6: I'm like, it's a team, it's a family, and you
- 25:01Speaker 6: know what, if you've got problems, We've got problems, and
- 25:03Speaker 6: I would much rather wait until you've got that sorted out,
- 25:07Speaker 6: until we can move forward again, rather than just you
- 25:10Speaker 6: know this this this bus stops, so nobody, you know,
- 25:16Speaker 6: like we're just rather than powering on. I'm like, oh,
- 25:19Speaker 6: he's the perfect memory, is the only drama I want
- 25:21Speaker 6: in this band. So if we have to wait until
- 25:23Speaker 6: it's right for him, that's what we will do. But
- 25:25Speaker 6: admittedly I was kind of like I felt like we
- 25:27Speaker 6: were all firing up at the time, and that kind
- 25:29Speaker 6: of put a handbrake on things. And I've been broken
- 25:32Speaker 6: many times in this band, and I was actually kind
- 25:36Speaker 6: of deflated and I was having.
- 25:41Speaker 4: I have often had a lot of my thoughts and
- 25:43Speaker 4: decisions in the shower.
- 25:45Speaker 11: And I was thinking, what am I going to do?
- 25:48Speaker 11: Have I had enough of this now? I'm like is
- 25:50Speaker 11: it all too hard? And I was like no, no, no,
- 25:53Speaker 11: I'm not gonna stop. I'm not gonna stop. And I
- 25:54Speaker 11: just said this this.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Rising, rising riff, which to me was just sort of
- 26:00Speaker 6: like yeah, fighting back and like from being kicked down
- 26:04Speaker 6: to sort of just like.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Not giving up.
- 26:07Speaker 6: And that's where that that riff just sort of came
- 26:09Speaker 6: to me in my head and it was like, no,
- 26:13Speaker 6: I won't be stopped. I will not I won't be
- 26:15Speaker 6: bargaining with her, I won't be disheartened regardless no matter what,
- 26:20Speaker 6: I'm going to push on. And that's that riff just
- 26:22Speaker 6: came straight out of it. And that's kind of special
- 26:24Speaker 6: to me because whenever.
- 26:25Speaker 4: I whether it's anyone else's favorite.
- 26:27Speaker 6: Song or not, every time we hear that, to me,
- 26:30Speaker 6: it represents like me just going fucking not giving up?
- 26:33Speaker 4: No way is it? If anything, I don't.
- 26:36Speaker 6: Go Now, That's that's where one comes from.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Personally.
- 26:42Speaker 6: I don't know everyone else where they're at with it,
- 26:45Speaker 6: but yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Who gives a fuck about anyone else? Is there? It's
- 26:49Speaker 3: all about.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 26:52Speaker 5: That's that's what you gonna argue about that For a second.
- 26:57Speaker 4: I'm like, hang on, what wonderful philosophy you have?
- 27:05Speaker 3: All right, we'll move on to where not the Drummonds.
- 27:10Speaker 7: Lyrically, it's kind of personal to me.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I grew up in a pretty weird, toxic family and
- 27:16Speaker 2: as a child I used to always kind of watch
- 27:17Speaker 2: a lot of TV, you know, would sort of get
- 27:20Speaker 2: lost in that world of the Drummonds and the Keatons
- 27:22Speaker 2: and all in Great Christine, you know, the Cleavers and
- 27:24Speaker 2: all that sort of those really awesome, perfect TV families,
- 27:28Speaker 2: And so I think the lyrics. For me, it's kind
- 27:30Speaker 2: of cathartic in a sense of just acknowledging what my
- 27:32Speaker 2: family was and that the fact that they aren't well
- 27:36Speaker 2: I would have liked them to be. But I guess
- 27:38Speaker 2: at the end, how you can you can grow from
- 27:40Speaker 2: that and develop into something better and rise above it.
- 27:43Speaker 2: You don't have to fall into that victim category if
- 27:46Speaker 2: you come from something sort of bad. I not that
- 27:48Speaker 2: my family was the worst family on the earth or anything,
- 27:50Speaker 2: but yeah, you know, it sounds it sounds an email
- 27:54Speaker 2: coming out like that. But yeah, just just that whole
- 27:56Speaker 2: thing where you know, sometimes I was as a kid,
- 27:58Speaker 2: I was always sort of had a velosov or mindset
- 28:01Speaker 2: of escapism, Like I was always losing myself in in
- 28:04Speaker 2: movies and TV shows and wanting to be there.
- 28:06Speaker 7: And I guess the lyrics it's kind of about that.
- 28:09Speaker 5: Yeah, right, And the final track is called Static Wings.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Yeah, okay. Musically, I don't know.
- 28:20Speaker 2: When you first showed to me, so what you first
- 28:23Speaker 2: showed to be on on the hard Drive it sounded
- 28:26Speaker 2: like a heavy metal John Farnham kind of song. To me,
- 28:28Speaker 2: it sounded like that this time we're playing the winner.
- 28:30Speaker 2: That's what of remindery of personally, and I really liked it. I
- 28:33Speaker 2: thought it was really catchy and awesome, and it kind
- 28:35Speaker 2: of inspired me lyrically, as you know, all these people
- 28:38Speaker 2: they say, you know, this is the last time, and
- 28:40Speaker 2: I'm done, and they keep sort of coming back, you know,
- 28:43Speaker 2: it's that whole comeback thing, and I thought it was
- 28:45Speaker 2: kind of appropriate with this sort of VP in that
- 28:47Speaker 2: sort of context of things returning and whatnot, so sever
- 28:51Speaker 2: the last time sort of thing.
- 28:53Speaker 6: So yeah, and that was that was actually written during
- 28:57Speaker 6: when we wrote this stuff for Overdose as well. That
- 29:00Speaker 6: was probably meant to go on there, but it wasn't
- 29:01Speaker 6: as well rehearsed at the time as the other songs
- 29:03Speaker 6: we went you know what, we just won't worry about that,
- 29:06Speaker 6: we'll concentrate on these ten and that sort of just
- 29:08Speaker 6: got left on the cut and room floor. But I
- 29:12Speaker 6: didn't think it was, you know, such a great song.
- 29:15Speaker 6: I was like, well, I got left on the cut
- 29:16Speaker 6: and floor. I didn't get the attention because you know,
- 29:20Speaker 6: it wasn't as good as the others. But then some
- 29:22Speaker 6: of the other guys in the band wanted to kept
- 29:24Speaker 6: on reminding me of this song, like we should do
- 29:26Speaker 6: that song because you know, they really liked it, and
- 29:29Speaker 6: I was not super super excited about it for a
- 29:32Speaker 6: very long time, but I thought, oh, there's something in it,
- 29:34Speaker 6: so let's push forward. And it wasn't until and i'd
- 29:38Speaker 6: also been playing it for years with no vocals, just
- 29:42Speaker 6: trying to keep it alive and you know, trying to
- 29:46Speaker 6: have some sort of belief in the song. And it
- 29:48Speaker 6: was as soon as actually put vocals on it, it
- 29:53Speaker 6: just all made sense and breathe life into it, gave
- 29:56Speaker 6: it color. And that's that's what they call to me.
- 30:00Speaker 6: It's the dark horse of the album, you know, one
- 30:03Speaker 6: that I didn't think that was like, it's okay, and
- 30:06Speaker 6: it turns out it's often a lot of people's favorite.
- 30:08Speaker 4: So we had a speaking of vocalists.
- 30:11Speaker 6: We had Damn White here on Sunday and he had
- 30:14Speaker 6: a bit of a listen to it and straight away
- 30:15Speaker 6: and you just said.
- 30:16Speaker 4: That's my favorite song out of all of them. I
- 30:18Speaker 4: love that one of the most.
- 30:19Speaker 5: This is going to be a really hard question for
- 30:21Speaker 5: you guys to answer, but I think it's important for
- 30:23Speaker 5: people to understand. But how would you describe the EP musically?
- 30:27Speaker 5: Like it's it's not what you'd expect, but it is
- 30:31Speaker 5: what you want, you know, Like it's it's hard to
- 30:32Speaker 5: describe it.
- 30:33Speaker 3: It's fucking awesome. How would you describe it.
- 30:36Speaker 7: It's like if if you liked if you had our
- 30:38Speaker 7: first two albums.
- 30:39Speaker 2: So it's like you breadings and salutations and the loopholes
- 30:41Speaker 2: and Grady's pieces fucked and had a rancid step child
- 30:45Speaker 2: that was raised on steroids and monster energy drinks.
- 30:49Speaker 7: That's what it sounds like to me. It's just it's a.
- 30:52Speaker 2: It's a homage to all the Franken Bob Baverty is
- 30:55Speaker 2: like when I approached it vocally, lyrically asked, I went
- 30:59Speaker 2: back and listened to all the albums and stuff and
- 31:00Speaker 2: not inspired by everybody. So I've had this reputation of
- 31:04Speaker 2: being a bit of a Mike pattern try hard. So
- 31:06Speaker 2: I went back and I tried to be inspired by
- 31:08Speaker 2: franken Bok and tried to make a franken Boc record,
- 31:10Speaker 2: and that's where I sort of came from.
- 31:12Speaker 7: So I think it's got all the great.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Elements of franken Bach, but also hopefully something new as well.
- 31:17Speaker 2: I think it's a very refined, mature franken Boc as well.
- 31:20Speaker 7: Like yeah, I'm really proud of it.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I never thought it was going to turn out like this,
- 31:24Speaker 2: and yeah, we're very, very happy with it.
- 31:26Speaker 6: So I know people always say this about their latest album,
- 31:30Speaker 6: but I'll legitimately say this, it's it's my favorite one
- 31:35Speaker 6: today as far as I you know, went through years
- 31:38Speaker 6: of writing it and listening to it over and over
- 31:41Speaker 6: and over and getting it done and all that sort
- 31:42Speaker 6: of stuff. But now when I listened to it, I
- 31:46Speaker 6: legitimately really really enjoy it.
- 31:48Speaker 4: I love the sound of it. I love you know,
- 31:50Speaker 4: I love what everybody did to it.
- 31:53Speaker 6: It said, there was no you know, there was no
- 31:56Speaker 6: tyrant on it. I just kind of, like I said
- 31:59Speaker 6: to everybody. You know, there's some people are going, oh
- 32:03Speaker 6: is this all right? You know what you do, whatever
- 32:06Speaker 6: the fuck you want to do, just do it as
- 32:09Speaker 6: the best that you can. And that's clearly everybody doing
- 32:11Speaker 6: whatever they want as to their best ability, and it's
- 32:14Speaker 6: turned out great because of that.
- 32:15Speaker 4: I think. You know, it's it's strange how much I.
- 32:19Speaker 6: And it's also I'm doing I've wrote the songs that
- 32:23Speaker 6: I felt like writing. I kind of just did whatever
- 32:25Speaker 6: the fuck I want, not worrying about what anyone else thinks,
- 32:28Speaker 6: and I haven't been so encouraged by the other boys as.
- 32:33Speaker 4: Well getting behind the ideas.
- 32:34Speaker 6: And I have the kind of very bland kind of hey,
- 32:38Speaker 6: this is my idea, but after it goes through the
- 32:41Speaker 6: Frank and Mak machine and everybody puts their parts on it,
- 32:43Speaker 6: it turns into something completely different. But yeah, I'm very
- 32:48Speaker 6: I'm really really happy with it. I love listening to it.
- 32:51Speaker 5: So Breaking Back are going to be celebrating the release
- 32:54Speaker 5: of a new EP by hitting the road with Alien
- 32:56Speaker 5: Airpim and Drowning Pool for four shows, starting in Brisbane
- 32:59Speaker 5: on February the seventh, been hitting Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Like,
- 33:02Speaker 5: I know about you guys, but I reckon it's going
- 33:04Speaker 5: to be a fucking blast.
- 33:06Speaker 6: It's going to be unreal. It's going to be so good.
- 33:10Speaker 6: I'm stoked to be doing an alien ant Farm thing.
- 33:12Speaker 6: And it's funny, you know, we're sort of known as
- 33:15Speaker 6: the Don't Call Me Baby band and they were, you know,
- 33:18Speaker 6: known as the Michael Jackson fucking band and all that.
- 33:21Speaker 6: But I'm impressed by with just to see all these
- 33:25Speaker 6: years later, like they're still punching on when you release
- 33:28Speaker 6: and stuff and there's a whole bunch of kids out there.
- 33:30Speaker 6: There's a whole bunch of people out there that are
- 33:32Speaker 6: like fans of alien Ant Farmer what they're doing now
- 33:35Speaker 6: that don't even know about that cover which is which
- 33:39Speaker 6: is a great thing. And for us it's we'll get
- 33:42Speaker 6: to play to a bunch of people that I would
- 33:44Speaker 6: say wouldn't normally come.
- 33:46Speaker 4: To one of our shows.
- 33:47Speaker 6: So we're stoked about that and really stoked about our
- 33:51Speaker 6: drowning pool being at it as well.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, that's what it's giving me hard on.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Yeah, lots of people are really pumped about that. Very cool.
- 34:00Speaker 5: And before that, actually, you've got a sneaky celebration for
- 34:04Speaker 5: your fiftieth Lap around the Sun in Melbourne.
- 34:06Speaker 3: What's going on there?
- 34:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I've this is another one of my fiftieth birthdays.
- 34:13Speaker 6: I'm that old that I knew the Dead Sea when
- 34:15Speaker 6: it just got sick. Yeah, I can't believe it. I
- 34:20Speaker 6: still feel like I'm eighteen and all of a sudden
- 34:25Speaker 6: there's the big five zero and so jit here.
- 34:27Speaker 4: It is now.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I'll give a shit about your Channel fifty. I want
- 34:30Speaker 3: to know where the party is. Where's the party?
- 34:34Speaker 7: No Gotte Social Club in North Kok.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Thank you, Hutchinson, shut up as OBUs. But the future
- 34:39Speaker 3: does look bright for frequent guys.
- 34:41Speaker 5: But the immediate future is the release of Irrepressible on
- 34:44Speaker 5: January thirty first. So I know you guys got a
- 34:46Speaker 5: lot of primo and stuff out there for it, but
- 34:48Speaker 5: where can people get a hold of a copy or
- 34:50Speaker 5: pre order it or do whatever they.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Want with available on all the streaming platforms, So if
- 34:55Speaker 2: you don't want to play for music or support the bands,
- 34:57Speaker 2: you can get.
- 34:58Speaker 7: It that way. Otherwise you can get it from our
- 34:59Speaker 7: band camp.
- 35:00Speaker 2: It's ten dollars, and we've done a limited edition pressing
- 35:03Speaker 2: up the CD with foil metallic artwork and that's thirty
- 35:06Speaker 2: five dollars through our website as well.
- 35:08Speaker 7: So head to Frankenboc dot there.
- 35:10Speaker 3: And we've gone work.
- 35:12Speaker 4: We've gone all out, you know.
- 35:13Speaker 6: We we were sort of doing things where you know,
- 35:16Speaker 6: we're sort of burning CDs and making our own covers
- 35:19Speaker 6: and all that, which was fantastic.
- 35:20Speaker 4: But I think we're so happy with this and it's
- 35:23Speaker 4: kind of a big deal to us.
- 35:24Speaker 6: We went, you know what, We're spared no expense, so
- 35:26Speaker 6: we've kind of gone all out to make it look
- 35:28Speaker 6: as sexy as it sounds.
- 35:30Speaker 2: It's a way of saying thank you from us for
- 35:32Speaker 2: everyone for sticking with us. I mean yeah, I mean
- 35:35Speaker 2: I personally when I get CDs and stuff, I like
- 35:37Speaker 2: a package. I like beautiful artwork. It's you know, he sped.
- 35:44Speaker 5: Will there be physical copies available for people at the
- 35:47Speaker 5: gigs or.
- 35:47Speaker 3: They have to order them online?
- 35:49Speaker 6: Yes, there will be, I mean providing that, you know,
- 35:53Speaker 6: the thousands that we made don't get so they probably
- 35:55Speaker 6: will get sold out, so you better hurry to a show,
- 35:57Speaker 6: you know. But yeah, that's that's the whole thing is.
- 36:00Speaker 6: There's the online deal. But we're really pumped to be
- 36:04Speaker 6: able to like I think what will actually turn people
- 36:07Speaker 6: is when they rock up, hold it in their hands
- 36:10Speaker 6: and have a look at it because it's, you know,
- 36:12Speaker 6: looks great and it's, you know, something to hold rather
- 36:14Speaker 6: than just file your own sort of somewhere, actually something
- 36:19Speaker 6: to have and hold and behold.
- 36:21Speaker 2: There might not be anything on the city like, just
- 36:23Speaker 2: don't unwrap it, just keep it with your collection. Got
- 36:26Speaker 2: the tool hour must spend one hundred and thirty bucks
- 36:28Speaker 2: on that. I haven't even opened it.
- 36:31Speaker 7: I think i'd been.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Second look inside somebody else it's bloody beautiful, so good.
- 36:37Speaker 7: I love it.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Now. This isn't a schedule question. This is just something
- 36:41Speaker 3: I want us both to tell me one thing about
- 36:43Speaker 3: each other.
- 36:44Speaker 5: That has changed for the better since you were lasting
- 36:46Speaker 5: a band together.
- 36:50Speaker 6: Hm Adam seems to enjoy all the things that I
- 36:55Speaker 6: enjoy that he never used to enjoy so much. They
- 36:59Speaker 6: didn't make up that is, whether that's being held down
- 37:03Speaker 6: or whatever.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Yeah, he feeds me before he fogs me, and then
- 37:08Speaker 2: he cuddles me.
- 37:09Speaker 7: After he foxed me.
- 37:11Speaker 3: He never you say that before.
- 37:15Speaker 7: Straight injury.
- 37:16Speaker 6: There's only a very thin line between being like cuddled
- 37:19Speaker 6: and held down.
- 37:20Speaker 7: N To be serious, I think Aaron and I always
- 37:23Speaker 7: got along, really, really well. There's always a respect.
- 37:26Speaker 2: And I mean back in the day we were very young,
- 37:28Speaker 2: and shit happens, and but at the end of the.
- 37:31Speaker 7: Day now for where we are now, I wouldn't change
- 37:34Speaker 7: a thing, to be honest with you. The only thing
- 37:35Speaker 7: I do regret is the way I left.
- 37:37Speaker 2: I probably could have done I could have been a
- 37:39Speaker 2: bit more of a gentleman about it instead of just
- 37:40Speaker 2: being a fuck with But that's just where I was.
- 37:42Speaker 2: I was angry and upset about some stuff and The
- 37:45Speaker 2: thing is now, I think we've we've come to learn
- 37:48Speaker 2: that we can speak our truth to each other and
- 37:50Speaker 2: just be open and honest and vulnerable of each other.
- 37:52Speaker 2: And it's it's great. I think we have more in
- 37:56Speaker 2: common than we realize. People walk through life and they're
- 37:59Speaker 2: where he needs masks and pretending to be okay, pretending
- 38:02Speaker 2: to be something that they're not. But it's amazing just
- 38:04Speaker 2: how much you do have in common. And I'm seeing
- 38:06Speaker 2: it in every all aspects of my life now, where
- 38:08Speaker 2: I'm at work, when i'm you know, with my friends,
- 38:10Speaker 2: but I'm in this band talking to people. Just be honest,
- 38:13Speaker 2: speak your truth, don't pretend to be something you're not,
- 38:15Speaker 2: and be kind and compassionate and just listen and don't.
- 38:18Speaker 7: Wait to wait to speak. And that's thing.
- 38:21Speaker 2: I think we've also set some cool boundaries are just
- 38:23Speaker 2: like you know, this is you know, and at the
- 38:25Speaker 2: end of the day, if you're coming into someone's house,
- 38:27Speaker 2: you'd be respectful, if you say you please and you
- 38:28Speaker 2: thank you, you don't be I total can't. There's no
- 38:31Speaker 2: real reason for anyone to be a fucking asshole back
- 38:32Speaker 2: to you. And if they out and then they're not
- 38:34Speaker 2: meant to be in your life. And it's it's really
- 38:36Speaker 2: just as simple as that.
- 38:37Speaker 4: So yeah, and in the early days, we had no skills.
- 38:39Speaker 4: We didn't we were like we were kids, you know,
- 38:41Speaker 4: like you don't know.
- 38:42Speaker 6: How to deal with disagreements, and another thing that you
- 38:44Speaker 6: have a disagreement, you're like fucking all that kind of
- 38:46Speaker 6: says you know, longer going to talk about him. You know,
- 38:48Speaker 6: like we've been through a whole lot of that and
- 38:50Speaker 6: we sort of like learn the skills of life and
- 38:54Speaker 6: you know what, sit someone down and go amen about
- 38:57Speaker 6: this thing and just have a conversation.
- 38:59Speaker 7: And you know, it's not just a bandman, it's a family.
- 39:02Speaker 2: So like when Tommy was thinking like, oh, because of
- 39:04Speaker 2: some things in his life, he might not be able
- 39:05Speaker 2: to continue on. So well, no, this band, we don't
- 39:08Speaker 2: want another drama. You know, this is before I was
- 39:11Speaker 2: in the band, but this is how the band felt,
- 39:12Speaker 2: and it's no, we'll work through it and we'll get
- 39:14Speaker 2: through it. So someone ends up homeless or destitute or something,
- 39:17Speaker 2: and then we're all going to chip in and help
- 39:18Speaker 2: that person. Because as far as I'm concerned, like this
- 39:21Speaker 2: is a really great lineup of the band. Like for me,
- 39:23Speaker 2: this is kind of like my first band Bacterium and
- 39:25Speaker 2: Frankenbach and five Starrel putting together. It's got all these
- 39:28Speaker 2: aspects of all the music I've ever wanted to do.
- 39:31Speaker 2: And you know, our mantaries now protect the bubble, and
- 39:35Speaker 2: you know we're not the egg. Sorry, protect the eggs
- 39:43Speaker 2: our manta now is to protect the egg.
- 39:48Speaker 7: So yeah, anyway, but you know what.
- 39:50Speaker 5: You'd asked about that, like, is she comfortable leaving us
- 39:53Speaker 5: two out there by yourselves?
- 39:54Speaker 3: Because if I was, I'll be get a little bit nervous.
- 39:58Speaker 6: She's gotten so used to it. Actually first started sort
- 40:03Speaker 6: of talking shit again and talking about music and watching
- 40:05Speaker 6: movies and stuff together.
- 40:07Speaker 4: She came out she said, you two are fucking revolting,
- 40:12Speaker 4: you know that, And I was like yeah. She said,
- 40:15Speaker 4: it's also really cute.
- 40:16Speaker 6: I haven't seen you having this much fun being in
- 40:18Speaker 6: this band in a really long time.
- 40:20Speaker 4: You seem not.
- 40:21Speaker 6: Really happy, and she said, I think it's really beautiful
- 40:23Speaker 6: that you guys have after all this sort of shit,
- 40:25Speaker 6: you know, like.
- 40:27Speaker 4: Calling each other constantly, constantly.
- 40:29Speaker 6: It's like, you know, when we were in a high
- 40:31Speaker 6: school band, like we're so excited just to be doing
- 40:33Speaker 6: what we're doing. Like, we hope people like what we're doing,
- 40:37Speaker 6: but legitimately we love what we're doing.
- 40:40Speaker 4: We're actually having a really really good time.
- 40:41Speaker 6: And it's great that rehearsals go for so long because
- 40:46Speaker 6: there's playing the set once or twice. But when it
- 40:49Speaker 6: gets really late, it's because we're all sitting around laughing
- 40:51Speaker 6: and taking the piss out of things and doing what
- 40:53Speaker 6: friends do, you know, rather than songs are oversea later
- 40:56Speaker 6: go home, you know.
- 40:56Speaker 7: And it doesn't matter if it fails, because Aaron paid
- 40:59Speaker 7: for everything.
- 41:00Speaker 4: Yeah in blood.
- 41:03Speaker 2: A lot of fun and one thing for me when
- 41:05Speaker 2: I first sort of came back to my first rehearsal,
- 41:07Speaker 2: Aaron and I spent the dating. We went to his elves,
- 41:13Speaker 2: this Elvis impersonator, and after I got some lunch and
- 41:18Speaker 2: it felt like back in the days when we were
- 41:20Speaker 2: a crabby guy to Cardill getting the Hawaiian burger and stuff.
- 41:22Speaker 2: But just the sun was out and just felt like
- 41:24Speaker 2: when we were kids, like in our teenage years and stuff,
- 41:26Speaker 2: and it was really really awesome, and you know, yeah,
- 41:31Speaker 2: shut up down.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:32Speaker 5: The funnies thinking about this is that whole serious conversation
- 41:35Speaker 5: is going on with that photo of Aza in the
- 41:37Speaker 5: background looking like that on my picture.
- 41:41Speaker 4: Oh I see it, and of all the photo as
- 41:44Speaker 4: you couldn't you know? I was off my balls. I
- 41:45Speaker 4: think I'm my life hill billy heroin or something like that.
- 41:48Speaker 6: I was like, So, I actually been in a hospital
- 41:51Speaker 6: a lot of times, and I've learnt I have a
- 41:55Speaker 6: lot of fun with it.
- 41:55Speaker 4: You know, when you're in there, you can sit there
- 41:57Speaker 4: and go, oh, poor movie, or.
- 41:58Speaker 6: You can just enjoy the drugs and get your fired
- 42:00Speaker 6: out and uh see what there is to steal. So
- 42:05Speaker 6: I always try to have a good time with it.
- 42:29Speaker 9: Lay my last play card. I don't go, you know,
- 42:38Speaker 9: I gotta know there don't got him. I gotta nil
- 42:46Speaker 9: that I got I know that go. I gotta la
- 42:56Speaker 9: all about and a yat all down the going down.
- 43:37Speaker 9: I love the way all I know and all I
- 43:57Speaker 9: get any dirt, all you don't know, say
- 45:24Speaker 7: D
