- 3:29at WCHS network dot com. McKenzie from Festival is our co host and so
- 3:35she's gonna help me welcome at a bunch of folks this morning. Jim Strong's
- 3:38gonna be here to talk about live on the Levy Plus or good friend Evan
- 3:39Osborne from Capital Market is going to be stomping by, and I understand he's
- 3:45gonna have chef Paul Smith with him, and and I'd be the first time
- 3:49I've actually met Chef Smith in person. Amazing. And uh there's a big
- 3:53event going on to Capital Market Monday night. Yeah, and uh so we're
- 3:57gonna talk about that with those folks. But before we get to all that,
- 3:59us a good friend handed Gardner from the Canal, Charles h Main association
- 4:02with this week's Adopt Me Please pett of the Week. Hannah, good morning.
- 4:04How are you? Um, I'm good. I'm just walking here trying
- 4:10to catch my dogs on the rest. All right, do we need to
- 4:15like give you like thirty seconds here because we can talk about something else if
- 4:17you need to, if you need to yell for the dog. Yeah,
- 4:19like thirty second. Oh okay, all right, thirty seconds, all right,
- 4:24all right, all right, all right, thirty seconds. She's gonna
- 4:27go get the dog, and so I guess you and I'll just talk for
- 4:30about thirty seconds here. How that that sounds wonderful? Can definitely do that?
- 4:32Well. We got festival coming up start, Yeah, so June night,
- 4:36So next Friday, a week from today, we start, Okay,
- 4:39take off with Live on the Levee on Friday night. We've got some other
- 4:43stuff going on, but we run for ten very very jam packed days.
- 4:47Well, and again we're gonna get into and usually we're just on the show
- 4:49a couple of weeks. You're talking about fest of all, but we're gonna
- 4:53have you kind of go on and give us a rundown of all of the
- 4:56activities that are gonna be going on, because, as I told you,
- 4:59with Festival, one of the things that I like about it is that it's
- 5:01all over the town. It's not just in one particular location. It's literally
- 5:06all over town. Oh yeah, I mean even you know, the venues
- 5:09are varied. I mean we've got outdoor spaces, we've got churches, we've
- 5:13got the performance venues like the Clay Center and things like that. I mean
- 5:16we try to use kind of everywhere and talk to everyone about their involvement.
- 5:21I mean, the amount of partners that we have with this is phenomenal.
- 5:25All right, Hannah, are you back with us yet? If somebody asked
- 5:30me what time, they said, So, is that show you do live?
- 5:33Yeah? Yeah it is. Yeah, yeah, it's it's it's not
- 5:36only live, it's it's pretty darn live. Yeah. Yeah. I don't
- 5:41know that it gets a little any more live than Okay, well, she's
- 5:43chasing her dog so I'll say the pet that we're going to be talking about
- 5:49soon is very cute. Well, I'll go ahead and do that. That's
- 5:53a good segue there, the dog's name, and Hannah, if you're there,
- 5:57you just jump back on at anytime, all right, the dog.
- 6:00The dog's name is Wallace. And I love that, which I thought was
- 6:01like the cutest thing. I have a cat named Grady. I like old
- 6:05man names for pets. But Wallace is a German Shepherd and we have the
- 6:11picture posted to Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and at day a seventy on Twitter.
- 6:15He is neutered, three years old, vaccinated, micro chipped. Yeah,
- 6:19ready to go. Hannah told me last night that he was found as
- 6:24a stray and he was brought in apparently very friendly walks on a leash.
- 6:29There are i'll say, red flags, but a couple of things you need
- 6:31to know about Wallace. But Wallace is a beautiful dog. Oh, Wallace
- 6:34is beautiful. As soon as I got the picture last night of Wallace,
- 6:39I looked at my husband, I went, so, if I come home
- 6:42with another dog tomorrow, Like, how are you going to feel about that?
- 6:46Because I was like showing him all the pictures like Wallace is the cutest.
- 6:49All right, Well, I just got to some intel from our producer
- 6:54Ryan that Hannah is not coming back. Okay, we can talk about We'll
- 6:57talk about Wallace. This is why I planned ahead of time. This is
- 7:00why I do that. Aparently, but apparently Hannah is not going to be
- 7:03con We hope everything's okay. She was, She's got some she was chasing
- 7:08dogs, so hopefully everything's good. Yeah. So, but so when we
- 7:11understand about Wallace, as I said, he has some confinement anxiety. Um,
- 7:15but I mean I think like that I think could be worked on.
- 7:18And she described German shepherds are also very big dogs, So I mean I
- 7:21think, you know, being outdoors and being a little more adventurous is something
- 7:26that Wallace would be interesting exactly. Um, and she said she described him
- 7:30as an alpha male and said that he needs to be kind of the dog
- 7:32in charge now that he can't be around other dogs, but it probably would
- 7:36be better to have him around more submissive dogs or maybe female dogs. Um.
- 7:43So so that's that's something that you need to know about. Wallaby is
- 7:46a beautiful dog. Well, and you know, Caseyha is so amazing.
- 7:48They'll make sure that you can do a meet and great. In that way,
- 7:50you can make sure the dogs are compatible if you do have other dogs
- 7:54in your house. So that's something that can always happen, to make sure
- 7:58that everybody gets along exactly exactly. So again, the dog's name is Wallace.
- 8:01Um, I always like, I mean, obviously you noticed the dog
- 8:05is a German Shepherd, but I don't know what else is. It looked
- 8:07I don't want to say pure bree, but it looked pretty almost under German
- 8:11shepherd. Honestly, I mean it was. I mean it's a very very
- 8:15pretty dog, very cute and did have a lot of characteristics of German Shepherd.
- 8:20I immediately knew. Yeah, so it's a beautiful dog. Picture posted
- 8:24a day all on radio, on Facebook and at Dave a seventy on Twitter
- 8:26Wallace's dog We're looking for Now. There's always other things going on at the
- 8:31shelter. Oh yeah. To this week they've been doing something called the bow
- 8:33Wow Luow. And what this is is through the weekend, the fees have
- 8:39been reduced on all adult dogs. Wonderful. The price is actually zero if
- 8:43the dog is spader neutered and if it's not yet Spader neutered. It's twenty
- 8:46five dollars, so you know, maybe you should talk to the husband there.
- 8:52Right, we have a dog and a cat and I mean, listen,
- 8:54if I could, I would live on many acres and have all the
- 8:58animals. What's your dog's name? What? Kevin? Dog isn't Luna?
- 9:03And she is from Caseyha and she is a Husky boxer mix. Wow,
- 9:09that's gotta make for some good times. Oh she's rambunctious as can be,
- 9:13but the cutest and sweetest dog. And you can't she was actually or he's
- 9:18actually astray just kind of showed up at the house and so we kind of
- 9:22did mind. Yeah, it took him in and we've had him for about
- 9:26four years now. So he's that's Bear Bear. Yeah. They have a
- 9:30cat named Bear, they do, and a dog named Luna. Yeah.
- 9:31Okay, So again those folks is the Canal Charsty Main Association do a great
- 9:35job up there with all of their activities. And I tried my best when
- 9:39I'm preparing for the show to go on and talk about everything that going on.
- 9:43But they've always got so many and so many items of need. They're
- 9:46always at you know, the blankets they have times when they'll run out of
- 9:48dry food or sometimes they'll run out of wet food or things of that name.
- 9:52And they're really great about having like an Amazon wish list that you can
- 9:56go in and you it makes it so easy you can help donate to them
- 9:58through that and it goes directly to them, so that way it chips there.
- 10:03You don't have to take it from your house there. It makes all
- 10:05the difference in the world when you are able to donate up there. And
- 10:09we're actually working with them as part of festival too that we're going to have
- 10:13hopefully you have the truck at a couple events and be able to have some
- 10:16adoption things. That's part of our stuff too, So we're really happy to
- 10:20work with them. Well, we're sorry that we only had Hannah for about
- 10:22twenty seconds, but Hannah had to go chase her own dog. And somebody
- 10:24asked me one time. They said, oh, you know, when she
- 10:26calls up there from the shelter, we can hear the dogs in the background.
- 10:28She's actually at home when she calls in. She doesn't go to work
- 10:31until later. Those are her dogs, but she's not actually at the shelter.
- 10:35Those are her dogs one of them apparently, and we wish, I
- 10:37hope it's turns out well. But Ryan tells me that Hannah has had to
- 10:41disappear for a while, so to go chase her dog, but again we
- 10:45get the story out there. Go over to Dave Allen Radio and Facebook or
- 10:48at Dave a seventien Twitter. The dog's name is Wallace. He's a male
- 10:52neuter German Shepherd, three years old, vaccinated micro chip, found as a
- 10:56stray. Friendly dog, walks on unleash. They're still working with him on
- 11:01leash, but he's still young. He can learn. Yeah, um,
- 11:03and it probably would be better as they said, with uh, with more
- 11:07submissive dogs or or and with kids, maybe older kids, you know,
- 11:11but to zero other red flags at all. And these aren't really red flags.
- 11:16He just things she's got to be aware of. Absolutely. Yeah,
- 11:18just you know, make sure that your home is a compatible home. That's
- 11:20the and you and you brought it up. And sometimes I don't do a
- 11:24good job McKinzie, as I probably shouldn't on that. But you brought up
- 11:26the fact that they will arrange meet and Greek so you can actually bring your
- 11:30dog there. I think you can probably take the dog from there to your
- 11:33head, just to see how it all works out. So everything is good.
- 11:35Make sure everybody's going to have a good living environment. Make sure everything's
- 11:39okay. Lah. Well, the pictures posted again at Dave Allen Radio on
- 11:43Facebook and at Dave A seventy on Twitter. Wallace as the dog's name,
- 11:46Go get Wallace and uh, while you're picking up Wallace, help Hannah look
- 11:50for her dog because that's where she is. She's chasing her dog now right
- 11:52now. Absolutely, we're gonna have to get an update on that. Hope.
- 11:56Hopefully everything's okay. So Hannah, if you're still around meaning Texas later
- 12:00and let us know if that's okay. All right, We're gonna talk somebody
- 12:01who frequently has trouble staying on a leashans Jim Strawn with Live on the Level.
- 12:07He's gonna stop by, He's gonna stop by the studio. You're gonna
- 12:09couple of moments. Even Osbourne from Capitol Markets here. I understand. Chef
- 12:11Paul Smith is going to be stopping by before he heads to Chicago and for
- 12:16this whole James Beard thing, he's gonna talk about that. Plus McKenzie Spencer
- 12:20is here from festival and McKenzie and I are. We're gonna get to know
- 12:24McKenzie a little. She's been on the show. I mean, I don't
- 12:26know what ten twelve times, a couple of years, probably more, but
- 12:31we haven't really gotten to know McKenzie. And we're gonna get to know her

- 17:06And how about my boys in hair supply the Rush, No, they

- 17:17without knowing hair Supply going wherever they play again, I'm going they were that
- 17:21engagingly fun well, and I think that a lot of people saw them at
- 17:23Regatta last year and thought, well, I'm going back because the mayor's one
- 17:27of them, exactly, She's like, holy cow, we've got to get
- 17:30them at the Levie next year. That they were fun and they are fun
- 17:34and they're doing great. They're doing And of course based out of the La

- 18:12in his band and he was on the voice. Yeah, what season was
- 18:15at I don't fifteen, I'm pretty sure. So he's got he's really making
- 18:19a name for himself. I don't know where he is now, but he's
- 18:22so excited. I followed some of his social media. I'm coming home,
- 18:26I'm coming home, come down seeing me. It had a river Front Park
- 18:29week number two Live on the Levee. So he'll play from six thirty until
- 18:33seven thirty. We'll take our little fifteen minute break and then for two forty
- 18:37five minutes. That's beginning at seven forty five. Alley Colleen up and coming
- 18:42star. She's originally from Oklahoma. She's making her way now in Nashville.
- 18:48She's got a couple of albums out. Her last album, I think is
- 18:51called Tattoos. She's a new age young country star and she was brought up
- 18:56around country music. If you don't know this, her daddie is Garth Brooks.
- 19:02Heard of him, you've heard of him. Yeah, he's been around.
- 19:04I don't know that Garth is going to be there tonight, and I
- 19:07don't think Ali wants daddy to be there some night. To bet with you.
- 19:11He's making her own She's making her own way, and she's so gifted
- 19:14and so talented. I know before we did the press garnference, you announced
- 19:18her right and and people that were selecting the Liva Levy Entertainment this year said
- 19:26we have her now. We would not get her in two or three years.
- 19:30She's twenty six and she'll she's already a star in that circle, but
- 19:33she's going to be a mega. Can I throw in a quick entertain and
- 19:37how you have to no good but a quick entertainment story about her dad,
- 19:40Garth Brooks. When Garth Brooks, when no one knew outside Oklahoma who Garth
- 19:44Brooks was. He signed to play at Camden Park in the late nineteen did
- 19:48not know this? Okay, it gets better. In the late nineteen eighties
- 19:52he played Camden Park. Keith Spears from Marsha University actually booked him to play
- 19:56at Camden Park when no one knew who Garth Brooks was. When Garth Brooks
- 20:00exploded in the Stratosphere with If Tomorrow Never Comes and all those hits he had
- 20:06in eighty nine ninety in that timeframe he was scheduled to play at Camden Park.
- 20:10He called the folks at Camden Park and said I'm still going to play,
- 20:14yeah, because he said, you guys took a chance on me when
- 20:18and at this time he's making two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a show in
- 20:21the early nineteen nineties. He says, I'm going to come and play at
- 20:25Camden Park for you because you guys took a chance on me when no one
- 20:29else will. That's class, right, that's high character. He has it.
- 20:33Yeah, that's always my favorite. I mean that's happened several times around
- 20:36here with different people that they'll be under contracted at a state fair or a
- 20:41county fair and then they hit it big and they come and play and they're
- 20:44just the nicest people about it. It's so heartening to see that kind of
- 20:48thing. I'm hoping for a repeat of last week. I don't know what
- 20:52the formula was, but whatever it is, I hope that we stirred up
- 20:56again tonight. I don't know why we couldn't have another going to be amazing.
- 21:00The weather's going to be good. The rivers you know, up and
- 21:03it perfect not mucky. And you know, we have so many great food
- 21:07vendors this year. I mean, Dave you you like food, but we
- 21:11just have delicious foods and some really great food trucks are there, and of
- 21:15course we have the Spirit of Beverages from four Points by Sheridan. We're still
- 21:19doing We still called Live and Let'll be Great fund for a great cause where
- 21:25we helped those five inner city charities with the fifty to fifty drawing. I'm
- 21:27not sure who the charity is night last week was mana Meal they raised a
- 21:32thousand dollars. But we helped the KBC Call Valley Collective, Covenant House,
- 21:36sojourn Or Shelter RCCR, and I've got the number here. We've raised one
- 21:40hundred and ten thousand dollars, give or take, because that's just my rough
- 21:44estimation over the last eighteen years raising money for those charities. So thank you
- 21:49to the community. Thank you for your kindness, thank you for your generosity.
- 21:53Keep doing that. We'll do that fifty to fifty drawing about eight forty
- 21:57during our second break, but we're about nine thirty tonight. No fireworks tonight,
- 22:02will have them later on this summer, but this the fireworks is really
- 22:04going to be happening on stage tonight. If you like country music, and
- 22:07who doesn't, we have two great bands. Mchael Buck six thirty, Ali
- 22:12Colleen two sets beginning at seven forty five. Thank you to Moses, thank
- 22:17you to Brewer and Company, Thank you Lou Wendell Marine, and thank you
- 22:19to the Health Plan. And of course we want to thank WCHS Radio fifty
- 22:26eight News, Talk and Sports. I'm reading that from right behind. You
- 22:29can see that. Yes, I can see. I'm a professional, Dave,
- 22:30I'm a professional. I could see that. And of course all the
- 22:33other stations. Well, you're on with Steve, I guess in Jenny.
- 22:36Oh yeah, I need to get into w BRC Media, WRC Media,
- 22:40WVRC Media. We're proud to live here. You have a lot of sister
- 22:42stations. We're proud to live here too, right, I've heard that one.
- 22:45That's the motto. Yeah, that's it. Well, I appreciate you,
- 22:48and I'm proud to live here too. I'm glad that you guys live
- 22:51here. If you if you live here, see you tonight. It had
- 22:52dad. If you don't live here, if you have a family and friends
- 22:56in from out of town, do them a favor. Bring them down to
- 22:59live on Eleve. They'll thank you. They'll thank you, and I thank
- 23:02you. I'll see you next Friday, my friend, Well, you won't
- 23:03see me. I won't see you. See you you want? No,
- 23:06No, I'll be here again. You're going out? No? No,
- 23:08actually I will be away two days next week, Wednesday and Thursday. Your
- 23:11life vacationing again. Now this is work related stuff. I have to be
- 23:15gone Wednesday and Thursday. You like an hostis right? Take care, Dave.
- 23:19But I was gonna say. I was gonna say that I will not
- 23:22be alive on the lady night because you know why. It's my thirty five
- 23:25year high school reunion this weekend. I saw you post something. Please don't
- 23:29post that again. By the way, Oh, the picture was the mullet.
- 23:32Yeah, I got I had to turn away. I looked and then
- 23:34I turned away. Pretty that was kind of the look. Not only I
- 23:38don't know if you saw it, McKenzie, look up. Not only did
- 23:42I have the mullet, but I had the Hawaiian shirt thing. That was
- 23:45kind of my thing. My senior year facebo I went through this thing with
- 23:47Hawaiian shirts and and the long hair, and I weighed one hundred and ten
- 23:49pounds. There was there was no simulation to Pimagnum. No tried, there
- 23:59was nothing more. Somebody pointed out the post and gym. I know,
- 24:02you gotta gotta go. I'd like more weird Al Yankovic than I did.
- 24:07That's a great camp. But because you I'll see you tonight. This is
- 24:14if you're just tuning in. You've got great guests coming up, and this
- 24:18is what it's like on Fridays. Here five eighty Live. Eighty Live is
- 24:22presented apart by Meeks Realty Group of areas most beautiful properties to serve the finest
- 24:26Realtoris Meeks Realty Group visited online Meeks dot us or call three or four four
- 24:30four zero one one zero one. So you were down there for week one
- 24:33of Live. On the label it was I'll be back tonight. Yeah,
- 24:37I mean it was crazy. It was packed. All the food trucks.
- 24:41Honestly, there were so many food vendors there. They were all so good,
- 24:44but they were all running out of food because there were just so many
- 24:45people over and over again. So it was Yeah, it was a great
- 24:49time. We had a really fun evening that night, and I mean all
- 24:53accounts, it's going to be exactly the same tonight. It's gonna be really
- 24:56fun. And I don't know, I was gonna say, I don't know
- 24:57why tonight would be any different. Yeah, No, I think it's gonna
- 25:00be great. Yeah. Um, so we're going to kind of transition here.
- 25:04I didn't want to say that five eighty Live is presumed apart by Travis
- 25:07Willard. You'r Edward Jones Financial Advisor. Just off the day's valley excit learned
- 25:11how Travis and the folks can help you reach your financial goals because that we're
- 25:14Jones dot Com or called Travis Willard today. Three or four three ninety seven
- 25:18fifty five fifty three three or four three ninety seven fifty five fifty three for
- 25:21your Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Travis Willard, Edward Jones member asked IPC twenty
- 25:26eight minutes away from ten. McKenzie Spencer is our guest hosted. She still
- 25:30got to play ten questions. That's coming up a little bit later on.
- 25:33I'm a little nervous, but I shouldn't be. I don't know what Dave
- 25:36hasn't store. It's a very well, we're not gonna make these guys play
- 25:40ten questions, but we have some more guests studio this morning, Evan Osbourne.
- 25:42We'll swing at microphone around there so it works better when you talk into
- 25:45it, yeahstead of just like mombing your words. Yeah, you're really close.
- 25:49Yeah, sorry, he's a little bit country, a little bit.
- 25:53We only have so much in the budget here, but they tell me we're
- 25:57getting a brand new studio here. That's what they tell me. So yeah,
- 26:02yeah, we're gonna at least enter the mid eighties here with their studio.
- 26:06At least that's what we're too. Evan oz wants from Capital Market having
- 26:08good morning. How are you? Good morning, sir. I'm fantastic,
- 26:11and you have a special guest with you. Once you introduced it, found
- 26:14this guy was driving down Virginia Street. What is not walking around you know,
- 26:18picking weeds to you don't culinary expertise because you don't have anything else to
- 26:22do. The fame chef Paul Smith, how are you doing, man?
- 26:26I'm great, Thanks for having me, Thank you for being here. You
- 26:29know we've never actually met in person. Of course I've had your food,
- 26:32but I do listen to you on hotline with Coop and Dave and Mondays or
- 26:36one of my favorite days. I look forward to four o'clock on Mondays.
- 26:38But you got something big going on a capital market pertaining to this guy,
- 26:41and you want to talk about them. Well, So a couple of months
- 26:45back about fell out of my chair when we received word that uh, dear
- 26:51friend, fantastic board member and just general culinary rock star had been nominated for
- 26:57Best Chefs Southeast the James Speard Foundation. And as time progressed, he progressed
- 27:06from a nominee to a semifinalist. And this Monday night it's the finals.
- 27:11And this is just to give you a little context in this. This is
- 27:15the Cooling Area equivalent of the Oscars. It is really the highest honor that
- 27:19a chef can receive in their professional lifetime, and it's been I mean,
- 27:25we always knew that he deserved it, but to see him actually get the
- 27:29recognition is incredible. And so we thought, what better way to really punctuate
- 27:36this moment than to have a watch party for the awards. And we're really
- 27:41really excited. We're gonna have an event Monday night from six to nine pm.
- 27:45It's called Mister Smith Goes to Chicago, And that's really a play on
- 27:48Paul. And you'll remember the film Mister Smith. I think it embodies what
- 27:53he's about. And what time does it? Starting game? Six p six
- 27:56pm? And tickets are Capital Market dot Net. That's where you get your
- 27:59chicket to come on out. And there's gonna be lots of food obviously,
- 28:02and the drink and things of that nature. And but the main event is
- 28:04going to be watching this gap absolutely now is the thing? Is the thing
- 28:07live or so? So Paul, when you go there? What what have
- 28:11they told you to expect when you get there? And what's the format gonna
- 28:15be? What's it looked like? It? Literally they said expect red carpet
- 28:19paparazzi. I'm gonna fanboy out because you know, all of my favorite chefs
- 28:25are gonna be there. I'll get to rub elbows with you know, the
- 28:30fame and the fame. I mean, it's pretty awesome. Andrew Zimmerman and
- 28:33Gail from Top Chef are MC's so. I mean it literally is exactly like
- 28:41the Oscars. Awesome tuxedos at all, really I did. I got back
- 28:47in my wedding tuxedo. Well, that's awesome. I have not eaten my
- 28:51own food and like a month that's its own like prize right there. But
- 28:59my wedding suits won't fit in my quality, let alone fit on me.
- 29:03So that's sure. It wasn't just because you know it. This whole process
- 29:08has been surreal. You know. When I when I found out, you
- 29:14know, Jason Adams, who's a dear friend of ours and a great videographer,
- 29:18did a small video. I got a call from one of my best
- 29:22friends, William Disson, who's also literally one of the best shops in the
- 29:26country, and he said, what are you doing? And I was at
- 29:29the pitch one of my sports bar, and I said, I'm washing dishes,
- 29:32flipping Burger's, just doing what I do on Wednesdays, bro. And
- 29:34he was like, congratulations, And I said, well, thanks, I
- 29:38mean I washed dishes every Wednesday night and he said now yeah, he said,
- 29:44yeah, I'm a heck of a dishwater and cheap um and he said
- 29:48congratulations. And I said on what he said on the nomination? I said
- 29:51what nomination and he said James Beard And I literally I was like, man,
- 29:56you don't you don't joke about this, dude like this is and he
- 30:00he said no, he was a judge last year. He said, I
- 30:02just got an email. I thought I would be the first to let you
- 30:04know, and it was, you know, you you have this feeling of,
- 30:11you know, all the hard work, all the time I spend away
- 30:15from my wife and my family all the time that you're in the kitchen,
- 30:18which is probably you know, probably one hundred hundred. I don't. I
- 30:22haven't made a capital market board meeting. Maybe ever. We're not caring.
- 30:29But then you know, fast forward to the finalist because we go from twenty
- 30:34to five and he calls me again, said hey, man, congratulations,
- 30:40what do you do? And I was back at the pitch. It happened
- 30:42to be a Wednesday washing dishes again, and you know, I said,
- 30:47this is, this is great. I wouldn't want to find out from better
- 30:48a better friend, and to be nominated for this is It's never been a
- 30:56goal because I never thought it would actually come true. But it is the
- 31:00the pinnacle of a chef's career, you know too. And also I've had
- 31:06a great fortunate career. I've been in NAPA Valley, Asheville, Naples,
- 31:11Florida, New York City, and to do it back here in West Virginia
- 31:18is I mean, it's It's no other feeling I've ever had. It's the
- 31:22pride that I felt coming home, to come home and to have this.
- 31:29I just came home to make a difference in our field and to cook and
- 31:33to create an experience for people and to make you know, our guests smile
- 31:37and I get to work side by side. We just did the inaugural flight
- 31:41from the Charleston and Charleston flight with the Department of Tourism went out to the
- 31:45New River Gorge. People in Charleston, South Carolina knew who I was because
- 31:52it's in the same market. You think the other chefs are from Atlanta,
- 31:56They're from Charlotte, Nashville, and Lexington. Charleston. West Virginia is on
- 32:02this national stage right now with these major metropolitan food markets that are I mean,
- 32:09they have real I mean, we have a real food scene now.
- 32:12And it wasn't just me. I mean Lowry's was nominated as well and Raymond,
- 32:15and you know, you look at the difference between the two. We're
- 32:19kind of the new kid on the block. We're a little bit innovative,
- 32:22we're a little less you know, we're not white tablecloth, but kind of
- 32:25served fine dining food. Lowry's is the epitome of consistency and the high end,
- 32:31from when Otis had it till you know, the mere cozies. It
- 32:36literally is has been in the top restaurant for decades. I mean they just
- 32:43did a dedication to Otis Chef Otis yesterday at the library. Yeah. I
- 32:47actually heard that was listening to Chris Lawrence coming in the Swinty and Kerry had
- 32:52some some audio from there. So I mean, and I think that is
- 32:54amazing, guys, because again, as you said, this is Charleston,
- 32:58West, I mean, hell much to tell everybody half the country that we're
- 33:01still that we're actually a state. You know, half the time, I'm
- 33:05like, I'm from charl I'm from West Virginia. They're yeah, I got
- 33:07friends in Rono because I'm exactly, Yeah, let's happen all of us here
- 33:10at all new since eighteen sixty three. Yeah. But but but I do
- 33:19think that because and you guys know it, and then you're a world traveler
- 33:22obviously, Uh, when people say West Virginia and they think West Virginia food,
- 33:28I mean automatically, you know, possum do we eat? Uh yeah,
- 33:31and and and that's all. I'm okay, that's what you want to
- 33:34eat. That's fine. But but it's nice to have us up there for
- 33:37something positive, because we were a state that gets crapped on a whole lot,
- 33:40mainly by our by ourselves were over word stenemies but that. But but
- 33:45to put us out there on that national and international stage and saying that a
- 33:50food destination is Charleston, West Virginia, it's awesome. Well and I mean
- 33:55we've talked about this before, Paul and I have off air. I mean,
- 33:59Paul All is so ingrained in this community, like has a heart for
- 34:02Charleston, has a heart for West Virginia, wants to be out there and
- 34:07doing things for the community. And we did talk about the fact that you
- 34:10know, this opens us up to a whole new world in the culinary world
- 34:15and having people come here for tourism. It's just another great thing for West
- 34:20Virginia. It really is. We work together, you know with Feast of
- 34:22All, which is an awesome event and festival is you know, you think
- 34:27about what gives areas vibes. You know, it's things like festival, it's
- 34:32things like restaurants. Each individual small town in West Virginia has a restaurant that
- 34:40gives it character, gives it a definition, It gives it like you know,
- 34:45it's it's real and these are real people working there. And I have
- 34:50from you know, Dickinson Gould and Angela Gould at buzzfood Service kind of gave
- 34:54me the platform when I worked for them for eight years and I got to
- 34:58you know, rub elbows with everybody in the state, and they gave me
- 35:01They kind of helped that, you know, everyone calling me Chef Paul.
- 35:06It was Dickinson that like from minute one was like, no, you're you're
- 35:10Chef Paul. And and it now is it's really cool to be home to
- 35:17have like you said, my heart has always been here. I've had the
- 35:21fortune to go all over the country, but no one ever nowhere ever felt
- 35:24like home. And it's the people of West Virginia. And I think when
- 35:28you come to West Virginia from out of state, you do have a like
- 35:30that preconceived notion of what you're going to get, and once you get here,
- 35:36you're like, this is West Virginia. This is awesome. So if
- 35:38we can just get people here, that's the name of the game. And
- 35:42if my food can help a little bit off this watch party, can can
- 35:45do it, if best of all can do it, and all the all
- 35:46of the things. Yeah, it's great, all right? So what what
- 35:51network is the show airing on? A? Right? Where is it?
- 35:52Is it actually airing on a network? It's not televised a direct live stream?
- 35:58Okay, okay, I just want to check. So don't stay home
- 36:00and watch. You actually have to go to Capital Market. You actually have
- 36:04to go. One hundred tickets left, We've sold three hundred and ten.
- 36:10I mean, that's amazing that three hundred and ten people want to come out
- 36:13and watch this ugly face well probably cloud for someone else wedding. Well yeah,
- 36:20well you know it is. It is a pleasure to have you undershown,
- 36:22its pleasure to have you nominated. I'm sure it's a high the highlight
- 36:25of you U, one of the highlights of your life. I appreciate and
- 36:29Evian, I appreciate you setting this up and again give us all the details
- 36:31one more time on on the Capital market here. So it's it's Monday,
- 36:35June five, six to nine pm at Capital Market. UH tickets and more
- 36:39info are available at Capital with an o Market dot net. All right,
- 36:45Chef Paul, wish you the best man, Thanks man, thanks for having
- 36:47me all right and Evan always see you win, always doing it. Yeah,
- 36:51it's excited. We're excited for you. All right. Thanks light gas,

- 46:53been fun? Yeah you uh next week. Morgan Robinson is going to be
- 46:58here next week. Morgan had to like kind of flip things back and forth,
- 47:00and I appreciate this, like the third time I rescheduled. You know,
- 47:02it wasn't you rescheduling you because of this and that, so which is
- 47:07totally fine. And Morgan. I love Morgan dearly. We worked together at
- 47:10the Clay Center. She's on the festival board. So I've known Morgan for
- 47:15years and love her to death. So she'll be doing all right, are
- 47:17you ready to play ten questions? I mean like, I don't know,
- 47:21am I? Because off air you were like laughing when we said it's not
- 47:24that. I was like, oh gosh. When I have a guest host,
- 47:29which is every Friday, I bring a minute and I give them ten
- 47:30questions totally random. They don't know what the questions. I can attest that.
- 47:35And McKenzie took it one step further because she said, I'd haven't even
- 47:38listened when you do ten questions. I intentionally did not listen to that segment
- 47:43because I wanted to be surprise. Literally, I've not like heard army if
- 47:45the questions here we go ten questions. When McKenzie spencer a festival, you
- 47:50can listen to one for the entire day. Is it rap, hip hop,
- 47:54R and B? That's one category? Okay? Uh? Country pop
- 47:59rock or something country music? All right? When I was a kid,
- 48:02I dreamed of being this when I grew up, so it changed. It
- 48:07went from I was all over the place as a kid, so I went
- 48:09from like very early childhood like fashion designer, which like, hello, there's
- 48:15nothing about me that screams that anymore, and then went to forensic scientists because
- 48:21that was once. Yes, I was really big. And then Grey's Anatomy
- 48:23made me think I could be a doctor for like a second and a half,
- 48:25and then I realized that was not going to so it's moved. Okay,
- 48:30first name only, I'm in jail, Ay, I'm in therewith Evan
- 48:37probably all right, b I'm going to call Blank to get me out.
- 48:42Katie Okay, Peanut butter, crunchy or smooth both? I like both.
- 48:47My childhood crush was Oh see, that's hard. I feel like it was
- 48:53like like Robert Downey Jr. And like the first Iron Man, like yeah,
- 49:00so young. When it comes to fast food, my guilty pleasure is
- 49:05Wendy's. I have an all expense paid trip to anywhere in the world for
- 49:10one week. Where are you going? Italy rain or snow rain? Definitely?
- 49:17Do you like your name or not? I do like so I go
- 49:22by my middle name. Mckensey's my middle name. UM didn't know that right,
- 49:24and most people don't, but I've I've gone by it since the day
- 49:28I was born. Um, and I do. I like it because,
- 49:30especially then it was like unique. I feel like other kids are named McKenzie.
- 49:34Now it's more common. But I'd like it, So you like it.
- 49:37A little known fact her real first name is Steve, who plays you
- 49:42in a movie. This has been a question people have asked me before.
- 49:45Actually, Um, I would say, Um, ideally, what I'd love
- 49:52is like I don't know, it goes back and forth between a couple of
- 49:58people. I know it goes back and forth between a couple of people.
- 50:00But I would say I would ideally would like would be somebody, Um that
- 50:06would be like Blake Lively or somebody like that. Adore her so you gotta
- 50:09And by the way, you've completed ten questions. You didn't even have a
- 50:13clue. I didn't count. I could have kept going through you could have.
- 50:16I didn't even count, So you could have kept on run. A
- 50:19lot of people would you asking that question? You have to ask yourself,
- 50:21Okay, is it who I who? I want them? To do.
- 50:22I want them to look like me or I act like me, right,
- 50:25because if they look like me, well it's gonna be Tom Cruise exactly exactly.
- 50:30I mean, you have yours ready to go see. I feel like
- 50:34if it was like looks like me, I would need somebody like Nina dobrev
- 50:37or somebody like that, but like ideally like person wise, personality wise of
- 50:43Blake Lively. All right, you have completed ten questions. Congratulates. Sorry,
- 50:46we got to talk about It was not as bad as you say.
- 50:49We gotta talk. We gotta talk about festival. We do, all right,

- 50:59it's music, theater, dance, our family friendly, literary, culinary chef

- 51:10happens all over Charleston. Most of the programming is free, open to the
- 51:15public, and you can find the full schedule at Festival Charleston dot com.
- 51:19All right, good stuff, and I appreciate you take a time out of
- 51:22your schedule to be here. And again, one of the things, one
- 51:23of the many things I like about festival McKenzie, and I've said this when
- 51:27you've been on in the past, is that it's not just one location.
- 51:30It's literally all over the city and that's what makes it tick. And what's
- 51:35your favorite part. I know you like it all, but something that you
- 51:37look forward to as we close, is there something that you look forward to?
- 51:39So Capital Street Artfair being on Capitol Street for two days with artisans and
- 51:45live music and jugglers and magicians and just the energy there. I love it.
