- 0:27Hey everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. So today I would like to talk to
- 0:32you about the fact that change is not by accident.
- 0:36When you want to change, there is a science to it, very
- 0:39specific science to it. And you have to embrace the fact
- 0:43that this is not Willy nilly. We're not throwing spaghetti at
- 0:47the wall to see what works. We are actually going to focus
- 0:50on the science of change, which comes down to the patterns in
- 0:55which you are doing things. So the beginning of the year is
- 0:57a great time to look at your current patterns and see what
- 1:01you are doing and discover where you may or may not be available
- 1:07for some shifts depending upon your beliefs as you discover it.
- 1:12Now what I would like to suggest is that as you are finishing up
- 1:17this podcast today, grab a pen and paper and start delineating.
- 1:22What does my day look like? Everything from the time you
- 1:26wake up until the time you go to sleep.
- 1:29Try to capture an entire day everything that you do.
- 1:34This is a very hard exercise my friends.
- 1:36I recently did this last week for myself and I did it from the
- 1:40standpoint of what does a work day look like?
- 1:43What does a weekend off day look like and what does a you know, a
- 1:48vacation day out? Because I did vacation just not
- 1:51long ago. What do they all look like for
- 1:54me so that I could see the comparison?
- 1:56And the difference between all my days?
- 1:58And something that I noticed that was so interesting for
- 2:02myself was that there are certain things I couldn't wait
- 2:05to do. Like, I would look at the list
- 2:07and I'd be like, Oh yeah, like there's a little glimmer in the
- 2:09back of my head that says yeah, yeah, I'd love to do that.
- 2:10Like coming out and shooting the podcast and taking care of the
- 2:13chickens and working on the gardens.
- 2:16I love doing that stuff. But then there are other things
- 2:19that I do not like to do. Like, I just do not like to do
- 2:22them. I do them, but I do not like to
- 2:24do them. And anytime it involves having
- 2:26to sit down at my computer and actually work on things, I don't
- 2:30like that. It's just not a thing to me.
- 2:32Like, even when I write books, people always say, well, you
- 2:35know how it how hard is it to write a book?
- 2:38And I'm like, well, for me it's not hard at all because I
- 2:40figured out the pattern. Like if I had to sit down and
- 2:42actually write the book in front of the computer, I would lose my
- 2:46mind because I don't sit down well.
- 2:49So I use voice dictation, I use Dragon Anywhere, put it on my
- 2:54iPad, walk, talk, and it types for me everything that I want to
- 2:58put into the book. I'm still able to move and do
- 3:01the things that I want to do, and then I can keep going, keep
- 3:04going, keep going, feel good, finish it, excited about it, and
- 3:08I don't feel daunted by the task of writing the book.
- 3:11And then I go back and have to pass it over to my husband, who
- 3:13edits for me. It's a very simple process, but
- 3:16I did not realize that I hated it so much when, because of the
- 3:19first time I sat down to write a book, I actually sat down to
- 3:22write the book and I was miserable.
- 3:24And I'm like, how am I ever going to do this?
- 3:25I have this huge desire to write the book, but I have no desire
- 3:28to sit in the chair. And this is, you know, years
- 3:31ago, and I just couldn't figure it out.
- 3:33And I would try to do it in little chunks, and then I would
- 3:34lose my rhythm. And it felt terrible.
- 3:37So I had to figure out that the science behind this was the fact
- 3:43that I actually had to figure out my science, what works for
- 3:46me and what doesn't work for me. But you can't do that until you
- 3:50understand how stuck you are in the moments of what you don't
- 3:54like. Where are your problems?
- 3:55So when you start to pattern out your day, the very first thing
- 3:58you can do is say, OK, I see where the problems are.
- 4:01Like, sometimes it's very simple.
- 4:03You look at it and you say I want to work out and you try to
- 4:06add a workout into your day and you stuff it in at the end of
- 4:08the day. Well, at the end of the day it's
- 4:10just not going to work. You don't feel good.
- 4:12And then for some people, some of my clients will actually say
- 4:15if I do it at the end of the day, then I can't sleep because
- 4:17I'm all hyper because they put all this adrenaline into their
- 4:20body. So it doesn't work at the end of
- 4:22the day and simply by looking at it and saying what's the
- 4:25pattern, what's the the the way this works because the science
- 4:29says if you understand it and you look at where it is then you
- 4:33can come back and say OK let's try the shifts before I actually
- 4:37have to really start to re engineer everything.
- 4:39Small simple shifts first. So pause, take a look at the
- 4:44whole day and then say OK, what happens if I rearrange things?
- 4:48What happens if I look at them differently?
- 4:50What happens if I just take them and slide stuff around?
- 4:53What happens if I start to, you know, leverage things to people?
- 4:58What happens if I change my approach?
- 4:59Is there a better way to do this?
- 5:01Ask all the questions? Because the more you ask the
- 5:04questions, the better results you're going to get, I guarantee
- 5:07it. And you'll be able to make
- 5:09shifts. And then once that's all done,
- 5:11once that is all done, then you can start to say, OK, I want to
- 5:15do the this particular activity five days a week.
- 5:18I want to do this 1-2 days a week because again, the science
- 5:21says what you do consistently is what makes a difference.
- 5:25So you just you have to be Uber consistent with what you're
- 5:28doing and the more you do it, the more you look at it, the
- 5:32better off it's going to be. OK my friends.
- 5:34I will see you tomorrow. Have a great day.
- 5:37Bye.
