- 0:27the world a better place. Find it in your favorite podcast
- 0:31app. But just to make it easy for
- 0:35you, I've left a link in the show notes.
- 0:39Now let's dive into today's quote from Morgan Freeman, the
- 0:42legendary actor whose career spans over 5 decades of
- 0:47excellence. He once said, you can't take
- 0:52credit for talent, you can only take credit for using it.
- 0:59Huh. You can't take credit for talent
- 1:02because you were born with it or you developed it early, but it
- 1:08was given to you. The credit, the thing you can
- 1:12actually own, is what you do with it.
- 1:15Morgan Freeman didn't choose to have that voice, that presence,
- 1:21that natural ability to embody characters.
- 1:25That was talent. A gift.
- 1:28But he chose to use it. He chose to audition, to study,
- 1:34to take small roles, to keep working when others quit, to
- 1:38refine his craft. For decades, the talent was
- 1:43free. They're using it.
- 1:46That was all him. And here's what makes this so
- 1:50important. Lots of people have talent,
- 1:54probably more than you think. Maybe you have it too.
- 1:59But talent without use is worthless.
- 2:03It's potential that stays potential.
- 2:05It's a gift that never gets unwrapped.
- 2:09You don't get credit for potential.
- 2:12You get credit for action, for showing up, for doing the work,
- 2:17for using what you've been given.
- 2:21Think about all the talented people who never became
- 2:24anything, All the gifted musicians who never made music,
- 2:29the natural athletes who never competed, the brilliant minds
- 2:34who never created. They had talent, but they didn't
- 2:39use it, so the talent doesn't really matter, Freeman is
- 2:44reminding us. Don't mistake having talent for
- 2:48deserving success. Talent is just the starting
- 2:52point. What you do with it is what
- 2:55counts. And here's the liberating part.
- 2:59Even if you don't have natural talent, you can still take
- 3:03credit for the work, for the effort, for showing up and using
- 3:08whatever you have. Because using what you have,
- 3:13talent OR not, is always worth more than wasting what you were
- 3:17given. So here's the question, what
- 3:21talent OR ability do you have that you're not using and what
- 3:27would happen if you actually put it to work?
- 3:30Because you can't take credit for having it, but you can take
- 3:35full credit for using it. So start using it.
- 3:40That's where the credit lives. That's it for today.
- 3:44I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 3:48tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 3:54with another daily quote.
