Speaker 1: really start with the beginning of your bachelor journey, or

Speaker 1: we can start with the beginning of your life. Well,

Speaker 1: which one would you prefer? Let's go chronological. Let's start

Speaker 1: with my life. Okay, great, So tell us like, were

Speaker 1: you born in Baltimore which is where we know you from?

Speaker 1: Born and raised in Baltimore? Haven't ventured too far from

Speaker 1: the nest. Um. I'm looking at actually getting out of Baltimore.

Speaker 1: Love Baltimore, a great city that will always be home, UM,

Speaker 1: but I need to I need to change, you know.

Speaker 1: And I've been going back and forth between New York

Speaker 1: and l A. UM, So I think we might pull

Speaker 1: the trigger on dabbling in l A for a couple

Speaker 1: of months at the beginning of the year to kind

Speaker 1: of test the waters, um, and then from there, if

Speaker 1: I love it, I might you know, stay for a year.

Speaker 1: But eventually in my life I will live in l

Speaker 1: A in New York at some point. Okay, that's great.

Speaker 1: But do you find yourself, um, wanting to settle down

Speaker 1: in Baltimore with your family around you know? I could see, yeah,

Speaker 1: I mean families a huge part of my life. My

Speaker 1: friends are there as well. UM. So you know, I

Speaker 1: always say, you know, I want to venture out and

Speaker 1: kind of get the experience of some of these bigger cities.

Speaker 1: But I could always see myself coming back. But I'm

Speaker 1: also type of personally, you know, if I meet somebody,

Speaker 1: UM and they're strongly rooted and need to be and

Speaker 1: wherever they you know, grew up, I'm open to going wherever. Um.

Speaker 1: I don't know if i'd pull an acron ohio type

Speaker 1: of thing, like you know what I mean, like that's

Speaker 1: love love. Um, you know, I'm I'm down to go wherever. Um.

Speaker 1: Obviously staying on the East Coast close to friends, family

Speaker 1: would be ideal. But I'm a free bird, you know. Nice. Okay,

Speaker 1: So I know that you you know you want to

Speaker 1: move to l A or New York, but you're not

Speaker 1: really going to like jump into like the influencer life.

Speaker 1: I'm sure you're gonna want a little of that, you know,

Speaker 1: getting get your The doors are open a little bit

Speaker 1: more easily given the positions that you guys are in.

Speaker 1: But like you are in finance. Yeah, no, I Um,

Speaker 1: most people think I'm just like a full time artist.

Speaker 1: I think you're a full time artist. This is what

Speaker 1: I asked me to dinner the other night because I

Speaker 1: saw that really cool mural that you did at Raven

Speaker 1: Stadium and I thought like, oh, this guy like definitely

Speaker 1: does this at for a living. No, it's crazy. So

Speaker 1: that started. Um, I do work in finance full time. Um.

Speaker 1: But the whole art thing, you know, I've been drawing

Speaker 1: and painting since I was like four or five years old,

Speaker 1: and my mom was it elementary school teacher and she's

Speaker 1: like the most caring, like attentive mom ever, and so

Speaker 1: she was like, you know, everyone's like, my baby is

Speaker 1: so good, but she was like, no, like this kid,

Speaker 1: she was like, he's like five years old, Like why

Speaker 1: why is he drawing like this? So she took some

Speaker 1: of my art into her art teacher at her school

Speaker 1: and she was like, and my crazier is like my

Speaker 1: son kind of like good, and she was like, no,

Speaker 1: for five, he's really good. So they got me into

Speaker 1: all these like advanced programs I guess that exists for

Speaker 1: five year olds. And I was in like all these
3:26
Speaker 1: art competitions stuff like that and just stuck with it,

Speaker 1: you know, through high school and college and and and beyond.

Speaker 1: It's always just kind of been like a really nice

Speaker 1: outlet for me. You know, I just throw some music

Speaker 1: on and go at it, and then it turned into
3:37
Speaker 1: something that you know, could be lucrative for me. So

Speaker 1: I kind of you know, I do a lot of
3:40
Speaker 1: commission stuff, um like the Ravens in Coca Cola. But yeah,

Speaker 1: it's just like a hobby and passion of mine. But um,

Speaker 1: finance is is the you know, and your parents are

Speaker 1: still together. They've been together for over thirty years years,

Speaker 1: So how did that, um play as like kind of

Speaker 1: a a model for you going into the Bachelor journey

Speaker 1: and just a dating in general. Yeah, I mean I

Speaker 1: think they they've been very influential in a number of ways. Um.

Speaker 1: You know, they're very always like, I'm very different than

Speaker 1: a lot of my family in the sense that you know,

Speaker 1: I'm I'm more of the risk taker, like the calculated

Speaker 1: risk taker taker. UM, and they're more private people. You know,

Speaker 1: it's crazy, you know, fast forward into the Bachelor when

Speaker 1: they didn't come, people like, oh my god, they're so unsupportive,

Speaker 1: Like there's that and it's like like it was in

Speaker 1: the middle of COVID. They both work, you know, they

Speaker 1: had to quarantine for eight days. They don't want to

Speaker 1: be on TV, and it's like people couldn't conceptualize that

Speaker 1: that's a possibility, right, they just don't want to be

Speaker 1: on TV. UM, but they so they were very skeptical about,

Speaker 1: you know, the whole process. But then them being together

Speaker 1: and being able to see them kind of stick through

Speaker 1: everything for over thirty years. You know, it just gave

Speaker 1: me like a very realistic example of what a relationship

Speaker 1: can be. And you know, my standards have been risen

Speaker 1: because of that. And so when I go into these shows,

Speaker 1: I take it very serious and and you know, I

Speaker 1: to a follow him somewhat too much of a realist

Speaker 1: at times where I'm like, you know what I mean, Like,

Speaker 1: I know it's a show, but like I'm also like,

Speaker 1: these are my expectations. So I take it super serious.

Speaker 1: But this is a super long way to answer, by

Speaker 1: the way, but but it's it's been a really good

Speaker 1: model for me to see what it takes to have,

Speaker 1: you know, success and longevity and a relationship because marriage

Speaker 1: isn't easy and there are gonna be really tough times.

Speaker 1: And you know, I Paradise isn't really like a microcosm

Speaker 1: of what a real relationship is because that's when it's easy, right,

Speaker 1: But a real relationship gets tough. And so, um, I

Speaker 1: guess I know what it like. I feel like I

Speaker 1: know what it takes, and that's what I look for. Like,

Speaker 1: you know, how do you how do you handle adversity?

Speaker 1: That's one of the first questions I asked Genevieve, you know,

Speaker 1: how do you adverse because it's very important to me.

Speaker 1: I've been in relationships where that wasn't great, and I

Speaker 1: know that there's gonna be adversity in relationships and I

Speaker 1: just look for somebody that can you know, stick through

Speaker 1: it and yeah, sorry, that was Like it's good as

Speaker 1: a man. How has the Bachelor Bachelorette UM changed you

Speaker 1: in a way? Um? It's changed me in a lot

Speaker 1: of ways. UM, I always say the one of the

Speaker 1: biggest ways. UM, I used to be somebody who probably

Speaker 1: cared a bit too much with people thought, and you know,

Speaker 1: I would always try to apiece people and kind of

Speaker 1: conform to what I thought they wanted from me. And

Speaker 1: going on the show, you know, when you put yourself

Speaker 1: out there, you kind of got to just like let

Speaker 1: go right you You can only control your control and

Speaker 1: people are gonna formulate opinions and have things to say,

Speaker 1: you know, whether they love you or they dislike you.

Speaker 1: It's you can't control it. You can't make everybody happy.

Speaker 1: And it's kind of allowed me to just take a

Speaker 1: step back and just like, you know, it's all good.

Speaker 1: You know, like I know who I am. The people

Speaker 1: closest to me know who I am, and and that's

Speaker 1: what matters most, and it's allowed me to just kind

Speaker 1: of like be myself fully, you know, just let go.

Speaker 1: I want to focus a little bit more when it

Speaker 1: comes to the show on Paradise since it's way more

Speaker 1: recent than Katie season. But just to talk a little

Speaker 1: bit about Katie season. What was funny is like, I

Speaker 1: don't know if I've ever seen a runner up in

Speaker 1: a position that you were in, because like there was

Speaker 1: you probably included we're watching you and there's a lot

Speaker 1: of people being like, this guy is in the position

Speaker 1: to propose right now, he could be meeting with Neil Lane,

Speaker 1: and it was a lot of that was because you're

Speaker 1: top four and I don't even think we saw a

Speaker 1: ton of you being that you were a top four

Speaker 1: or but we in addition to that saw you basically

Speaker 1: there by default correct, So like howe were you feeling

Speaker 1: in this situation? I don't know if they showed this

Speaker 1: part or not, but I had just come off of

Speaker 1: my hometown, um, my New Mexico hometown, and you know

Speaker 1: they called me and Blake in your hometown where weren't there,

Speaker 1: which now we understand why the friends Okay, yeah, okay,

Speaker 1: um and rattled uh no, So they called him. It's

Speaker 1: literally like a day or two after my hometown, and

Speaker 1: they're like, all right, we're gonna have you and Blake

Speaker 1: do a man chat at this one had no clue

Speaker 1: Michael I had left, no clue where I had left.

Speaker 1: And you know, I'm I'm a very aware guy, and

Speaker 1: I'm like, those are their front roaders right, Like in

Speaker 1: my head, I'm thinking Andrew was top four, but you

Speaker 1: were top five? You were five? Ye sent him back? It? Wow?

Speaker 1: I was in a way he was for Why is that?

Speaker 1: I don't even know if I'm like contractually it's in

Speaker 1: a way he was four. I'm just in my head

Speaker 1: going to speculate that perhaps like Michael and him left

Speaker 1: at similar times. Uh, okay, well we won't get on

Speaker 1: their bad side, all right, go ahead, go ahead. Um anyway,

Speaker 1: they called, they called me in for like a man chat.

Speaker 1: You know what. I thought it was gonna be a

Speaker 1: man chat. I thought Michael and Greg were still there.

Speaker 1: So they sit us down. Maybe Greg left before, who knows? Okay, Yeah,

Speaker 1: And so Caitlin Bristow comes in and she's like, so

Speaker 1: I want to let you know that Michael A is

Speaker 1: no longer here I'm like, Greg's by the wind, and

Speaker 1: she's like, but there's more, and she goes, um, Greg

Speaker 1: has also left, and I'm sure the camera pan into

Speaker 1: my face at that point, and wait, can you for

Speaker 1: the camera for our Instagram audience see the face that

Speaker 1: you must have made to Caitlin. I think it was

Speaker 1: probably more extreme than that. It was you see the

Speaker 1: sweat starting to drip down my face and I'm just

Speaker 1: like stuck. And so she goes, so, Blake, how do

Speaker 1: you feel about this? And Blake's like, oh, you know, um,

Speaker 1: this is where I expected to be. You know, this

Speaker 1: is where I want to be. Just I had my

Speaker 1: eyes set on being here this whole time. I And

Speaker 1: she's like, she's like, so justin, how do you feel?

Speaker 1: And I swear all I said was I'm stressed? Where

Speaker 1: you tempted in that moment be like, well if they're God, guys,

Speaker 1: can I see myself at it? Like? You got it?

Speaker 1: Like you got it? It's all you buddy. Um you

Speaker 1: know I was in immediate panic mode. Yeah, panic mode? Um. Yeah,

Speaker 1: it was just down from there. Okay. Yeah, So then

Speaker 1: when you went on that date with her, like how

Speaker 1: awkward was that? It was super well I didn't even

Speaker 1: get it. I got done before the date. Umtas sweet date.

Speaker 1: But you did go on a little portion of that.

Speaker 1: I got dressed and like interviewed for everything, and you

Speaker 1: know it's that was during my hometown. But the poem yeah,

Speaker 1: um pedal by pedal um. So so anyway, you know,

Speaker 1: Katie and I had this thing where you know how

Speaker 1: they hold you know, you're you're going on the date.

Speaker 1: You know she's got her squad with her. You know,

Speaker 1: cass has their squad and you're gonna go through all

Speaker 1: this stuff before you can kind of like run up

Speaker 1: and do the juice stuff hug jump stuff, right, and

Speaker 1: And what you guys have now made the whould you who?

Speaker 1: it is like anyway, so we would always do this

Speaker 1: thing where you know, we could see each other from

Speaker 1: a distance and like we're getting we're waiting for the

Speaker 1: green light, and we would always kind of just like

Speaker 1: look at each other and like cut up and just

Speaker 1: be goofy. Right, And so we're lining up right and

Speaker 1: I'm getting ready to going what I thought was my

Speaker 1: fantasy sweet date like day portion, and I'm like cutting up,

Speaker 1: messing around like we usually do, and she wasn't reciprocating.

Speaker 1: I was like, did you see me? Like like you

Speaker 1: know what I mean? And she's like no, She's just

Speaker 1: standing there. I'm like, this is weird. So I gotta

Speaker 1: really like bad gut feeling. So my producers right there

Speaker 1: and he's like, all right, um go get her. And

Speaker 1: I was like, hey, man, like should I like run

Speaker 1: over there? Walks. I'm like, I know this is gonna

Speaker 1: I'm gonna look goofy. I'm like if I run over

Speaker 1: here and I get I'm like I had a bad feelings,

Speaker 1: so I was like perspect I was. I was like,

Speaker 1: I was like, hey, should I run over there? And

Speaker 1: but the producer just turned his back and didn't say anything.

Speaker 1: I'm like, oh god. So I got like a little

Speaker 1: jog going. I'm like and she wasn't coming towards me,

Speaker 1: something like let me slow it down and I get

Speaker 1: there and she's like, oh, like hey, I'm like, hey,

Speaker 1: how are you like? You know, you look good at whatever.

Speaker 1: She's like, can we talk about dagger? Yeah, But but

Speaker 1: you felt a little relief. Well, um, you know it

Speaker 1: was probably everything happens for a reason, and it was

Speaker 1: you know, it was probably good timing because you know,

Speaker 1: I was at the point where I was like, Okay,

Speaker 1: if we're gonna if we're gonna take this next step,

Speaker 1: Like for me, it was no longer I'm trying to

Speaker 1: prove myself to Katie, Like this is a two way

Speaker 1: thing at this point, and you kind of got to

Speaker 1: prove yourself to me, you know, and I have of

Speaker 1: some tough questions, some real life questions, and I need

Speaker 1: to ask invet this out to see if this is

Speaker 1: gonna be right for me, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1: And I was very vocal about you know, that's that

Speaker 1: was gonna be my approach for the next couple of

Speaker 1: days or whatever until proposals, um. And so you know

Speaker 1: it it all happened the way it was supposed to. UM.

Speaker 1: But it still was kind of like even even kind

Speaker 1: of expecting to not, you know, be the one. It's

Speaker 1: still hurt because like I did invest so much into

Speaker 1: her and that experience that it's just like damn, Like

Speaker 1: it still hurts, you know when you go through all

Speaker 1: that and especially yeah, like it's still hurt. Um, just

Speaker 1: because like I'm the type of person like I don't

Speaker 1: give a lot of myself to just anybody or everybody. Right,

Speaker 1: I'm very selective and when I'm in it, and I

Speaker 1: like I care like these guys know, Like I like

Speaker 1: I care, you know, and I really did put my

Speaker 1: best foot forward. Um. So yeah, it's it's not easy,

Speaker 1: but it was just like all right, it's probably probably

Speaker 1: for the best. Yeah, then you're in that sticky spot

Speaker 1: being where you land, Um where it's like does he

Speaker 1: become a Bachelor contender or does he go to Paradise?

Speaker 1: And he's like the guy in Paradise? So how did

Speaker 1: that unfold for you? Um? Yeah, like literally you can

Speaker 1: and they're pretty chill about this. So literally, Um, the

Speaker 1: next day, I couldn't leave New Mexico because they had

Speaker 1: to wait for Blake to finish filming. Because they couldn't

Speaker 1: I couldn't go back home and spoil it. You know,

Speaker 1: filming was wrapped up, so they literally put me in

Speaker 1: you know, the Airbnb that Caitlin was staying at, and

Speaker 1: kind of I just hung out with a producer for

Speaker 1: like five days and pretty typical of people who leave

Speaker 1: like second third. Yeah, so you know, um fully stopped

Speaker 1: for it was hot tub, but it was it was sick, yeah. Um.

Speaker 1: And literally the producer sits me down the next day,

Speaker 1: he's like, how about Paradise. I'm like, brother, like I'm

Speaker 1: still processing every like I literally like this sounds so corny,

Speaker 1: but I so I made a painting for two paintings

Speaker 1: for Katie, and so you know, they got the guys

Speaker 1: running my bags back and forth, you know, from um

Speaker 1: the house to you know where I'm staying at now,

Speaker 1: and like she returned the paintings and she had wrote

Speaker 1: like a little note on the back of it, and

Speaker 1: I remember like what she wrote, just like hit me.

Speaker 1: And I was like, I'm gonna excuse myself. And like

Speaker 1: I was up there like crying in the abr NB

Speaker 1: and I'm just like, dude, I don't want to hear

Speaker 1: about paradise right now, you know what I mean. And

Speaker 1: he's literally like we're sitting there and he's putting on

Speaker 1: Paradise on the TV, like trying to convince me to go.

Speaker 1: I'm like, this is me. I'm like, I just don't

Speaker 1: think this environments for me. It's like a little bit

Speaker 1: more scandalous from what I've seen and when I think

Speaker 1: i'd be good for like I don't think my personality

Speaker 1: suits Paradise, Like I'm just not you know, I don't

Speaker 1: think I'm it. And he's just like, no, we need

Speaker 1: people like you, Like I think you'd be great for it,

Speaker 1: Like you know, you'd be the man, you know what

Speaker 1: I mean. He's like, we have these plans for you.

Speaker 1: And you know, when Mike Johnson was in contention for

Speaker 1: The Bachelor, we had him come in like a later

Speaker 1: arrival and to kind of set him up for Bachelor,

Speaker 1: and we could do that for you. And I'm just like,

Speaker 1: I don't know, like this is a lot for me. Um.

Speaker 1: And I was just it was too much, too soon. Um.

Speaker 1: Not only was it gonna be weird because Paradise was

Speaker 1: filming before our season aired, which is a little different

Speaker 1: than usual, right, So I was like, I don't feel

Speaker 1: like going here and re explaining myself to everybody, like

Speaker 1: different than usual. I take that back, usually the Bachelorette

Speaker 1: has had two episodes. If we're talking like old protocol,

Speaker 1: usually the Bachelor has had two episodes air by the

Speaker 1: time the cast leaves her paradise. And but then in

Speaker 1: your cases, it didn't start until Bachelorette. You guys, you

Speaker 1: had weeks until their season would start airing, so you

Speaker 1: really didn't get like the life yet, right, So I

Speaker 1: was like, I don't I don't have enough energy in

Speaker 1: me to just kind of reintroduce or explain myself to

Speaker 1: these people who don't know who I am. I was

Speaker 1: like this, the whole process just took everything out of me,

Speaker 1: Like I just I don't want to go there and

Speaker 1: be like a shell of myself and just be that

Speaker 1: guy pounding in the corner, you know. Um. So they

Speaker 1: I mean they called me every day for a weeks

Speaker 1: trying to get me to go, and I was just

Speaker 1: like I can't do it. Um. But then but then

Speaker 1: you went, and then and then you went with your

Speaker 1: friends from Katie season. I'm assuming that so many of

Speaker 1: you were maybe in contention for Bachelor, that they held

Speaker 1: you back or you guys just weren't interested. So I'm

Speaker 1: gonna let Andrew take the mic and you guys can

Speaker 1: tell us exactly how this unfolded with you guys. Have

Speaker 1: all of you, Michael A, Michael Ay, you, UM, and

Speaker 1: Andrew all not in Paradise that year, so we assumed

Speaker 1: that one of you would become bachelor. And then there

Speaker 1: was Greg, which everybody like. Even though Greg left with
