Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi.
- 0:00Speaker 2: I'm Brian. I play guitar in a band called Poison
- 0:02Speaker 2: the Well. We're becoming to Australia from June seventh through
- 0:09Speaker 2: the fourteenth or something like that. And then yeah, we
- 0:17Speaker 2: just put out a record called Peace and Place and
- 0:20Speaker 2: we'll be playing some of that as well as all
- 0:22Speaker 2: of our first records.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Fantastic. All right, thanks for joining us tonight.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You're welcome. Thank you for having me my pleasure.
- 0:30Speaker 4: So I can't confirm that your chore does start during
- 0:32Speaker 4: the seventh correct, it starts in Perth, Melburn City, Newcastle
- 0:36Speaker 4: and finishing Brincebane on for eight.
- 0:39Speaker 3: So they got that right to it's.
- 0:40Speaker 4: We're well done, well done the country.
- 0:46Speaker 1: No, we get there tomorrow.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that this is the part way you're looking forward
- 0:50Speaker 3: to that big flight.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's just a fight.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I'll watch a bunch of movies that I would never
- 0:55Speaker 2: subject myself to at home, and it'll probably be funny.
- 1:01Speaker 3: This is going to be your first times.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Its two thousand and nine, mate, So I said, fair, well,
- 1:06Speaker 4: what's changed with the band since we.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Last were you?
- 1:11Speaker 2: We're older, we have more physical ailments than we had
- 1:15Speaker 2: in two thousand and nine. I don't drink anymore. Uh, yeah,
- 1:23Speaker 2: and a couple of people that weren't with us the
- 1:26Speaker 2: last time we were there.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Well, other than that, it's the same old song and dance.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Nice, And I suppose it would be remissively to ask
- 1:35Speaker 4: the question is why the hell have you neglected us
- 1:37Speaker 4: for so long?
- 1:38Speaker 3: It's like seventeen years.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Well, we we neglected everyone for about fourteen of them,
- 1:45Speaker 2: thirteen of them.
- 1:48Speaker 4: As you mentioned you I toured on the back of
- 1:50Speaker 4: your latest album, Piece in the Place, So how much
- 1:53Speaker 4: is that he actually going to be playing?
- 1:56Speaker 1: I think three or four songs undetermined?
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, well, we'll figure it out in the morning of
- 2:01Speaker 2: the show, which is probably not the best plan, but
- 2:05Speaker 2: it's our plan, so right, at.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Least I thinks can be the same.
- 2:09Speaker 1: If you don't like that, true?
- 2:11Speaker 4: True, how would be able to do songs to be
- 2:13Speaker 4: goddamn life? People been getting to do them good?
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you get the normal like, I don't
- 2:19Speaker 2: know this song, I'm not interested in this from some people,
- 2:22Speaker 2: and then some people seem to really be responding to it.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I'm having fun, So at least that's happening.
- 2:33Speaker 4: But the benefit of fantasy might not have even been
- 2:35Speaker 4: bold last time You're aaddie might run a s certifical
- 2:38Speaker 4: place in the live show of what they can expect.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Oh, well, that just made me feel so old. That's okay.
- 2:47Speaker 1: It's okay because being old's cool. Yeah. I don't know.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Probably a raucous good time. There will be a lot
- 2:58Speaker 2: of raucous sounds and feelings.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I've probably heard the word raucous said once in the
- 3:06Speaker 4: last five years, and I've heard it twice in one
- 3:08Speaker 4: sentence tonight.
- 3:09Speaker 3: You've done well, good word. Indeed, it's huge think.
- 3:17Speaker 1: So.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, but from that around by like you just happen
- 3:19Speaker 4: to be played for a WHILELI likee, what's sort of
- 3:21Speaker 4: things could a crowd do from your perspective to to
- 3:24Speaker 4: make you come off stage and just sort of go like, yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 4: that was cool.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I like that one.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Not throw anything, it's good.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Start.
- 3:34Speaker 1: No, I don't know.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Aside from that, I don't. I kind of I'm in
- 3:38Speaker 2: my own little world when we play shows. I do
- 3:40Speaker 2: notice stuff. But you know, as long as as long
- 3:45Speaker 2: as I'm not seeing people like this.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Kill the vibe a bit with it, Yeah, I mean
- 3:52Speaker 1: the bug has been killed before I've watched it die.
- 3:56Speaker 3: What's what's the worst thing is that they've done killed
- 3:58Speaker 3: the vibe.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'm not I think.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I remember there was one show we played in two
- 4:06Speaker 2: thousand and seven, uh, and there was this we were
- 4:12Speaker 2: playing with a band from the UK called Gallows, and
- 4:17Speaker 2: there was this couple like right at the edge of
- 4:19Speaker 2: the stage and they were making out like the whole show,
- 4:23Speaker 2: and I was like.
- 4:23Speaker 1: This is a bummer.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Like, all right, I'm happy for them.
- 4:29Speaker 1: They're happy, that's cool, but like this is the whole time,
- 4:31Speaker 1: and I was like, it's kind of a bummer.
- 4:34Speaker 3: There's a new bench like plays in the world music to.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Mike Loveste, Yeah, I mean maybe not in the absolute front, but.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Or in the pit, he said, showing me they and
- 4:52Speaker 3: I hadn't mind. My friend so tells me more.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Uh.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Heyward's band from Boston.
- 4:58Speaker 2: They're awesome and Iron Mind is from Australia and I
- 5:04Speaker 2: just heard them for the first time when we put
- 5:07Speaker 2: this tour together, and I'm really excited to be able
- 5:09Speaker 2: to see them for the first time. I've got Haywire
- 5:11Speaker 2: twice in the US and it is always a good time.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you must get on pretty well within che Latch's
- 5:18Speaker 3: ringing all the way to ashow you with you.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah for sure. I mean, I don't know.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I haven't met Iron Mind yet, so hopefully I don't
- 5:26Speaker 2: annoy them, but you know, we can hope for the best.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Yeah, So come back to the style of things, right,
- 5:32Speaker 4: Like you founded points for them back at ninety ninety seven.
- 5:34Speaker 4: So was it a musical climate like back then indicates
- 5:37Speaker 4: birth to the band and what was your really vision?
- 5:40Speaker 2: I don't know, we had an interesting time in the beginning.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I think the punk er hard course Deane in Florida
- 5:53Speaker 2: was just a little different. And I feel like all
- 5:58Speaker 2: of the shows I remember playing when we were kids
- 6:00Speaker 2: were very diverse, right, lots of different sounding kinds of bands.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It wasn't like one kind of thing all the time
- 6:07Speaker 1: because there were so few of us.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Like it was, the more you banded together, the more
- 6:11Speaker 2: people you could get to come to.
- 6:13Speaker 1: The show, and everyone would have a better show, and
- 6:15Speaker 1: everyone would, you.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Know, maybe have somebody that didn't know of their existence
- 6:20Speaker 2: before walk away and be like, oh, I want.
- 6:22Speaker 1: To check that out, right, So it was always a
- 6:25Speaker 1: very you know, a strange thing.
- 6:27Speaker 2: You know, you'd go play a show and there'd be
- 6:29Speaker 2: like a ska band playing.
- 6:30Speaker 5: You're like, why are you playing with a ska band.
- 6:32Speaker 5: I don't know, because that's my friend. Yes, he's in
- 6:36Speaker 5: a ska band. It's a cool band.
- 6:41Speaker 4: The Fans failed massive early success with the debut album
- 6:44Speaker 4: The Side of December, a season of separations in ninety nine. Mate,
- 6:48Speaker 4: looking back, do you think you were ready at that
- 6:50Speaker 4: stage for everything that came with it? M Do you
- 6:53Speaker 4: think you were ready for all the things that came
- 6:55Speaker 4: with the success of your debut album?
- 6:59Speaker 1: No, absolutely not. But I think we didn't pay attention
- 7:02Speaker 1: to any of it either.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I think we were so dumbfounded at it happening that
- 7:09Speaker 2: it kind of saved us that we were oblivious to
- 7:11Speaker 2: a lot of it because we really just played shows
- 7:15Speaker 2: as much as we could and.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Spent time just like being kids playing shows.
- 7:21Speaker 2: There wasn't much interest in any of the trappings that
- 7:25Speaker 2: you read about in other bands, you know, and other
- 7:29Speaker 2: people's lives. We were really lucky for the first few
- 7:32Speaker 2: years to just be like so just goofy young kids
- 7:37Speaker 2: that you know all had a little baggage with them,
- 7:42Speaker 2: but we were very much focused on just enjoying playing
- 7:46Speaker 2: shows and the experience of being out of Florida.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Yeah, right right. Skipped forward. The most recent album and
- 7:53Speaker 3: piece and play. So he hadn't released an album for
- 7:55Speaker 3: sixteen years before that one, so in a way, it
- 7:58Speaker 3: was a sort of toddle light starting again putting that
- 8:00Speaker 3: mail up that long. Were you noticed about doing it
- 8:02Speaker 3: and stuff?
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I was just nervous about coming back and failing.
- 8:08Speaker 6: I felt, you know, like, at least if I didn't
- 8:13Speaker 6: make another record, I could say, like, look, I did
- 8:17Speaker 6: a thing and it wasn't It wasn't the least you know,
- 8:20Speaker 6: it wasn't the least.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Respectable thing. But then I could come back and ship
- 8:27Speaker 2: on all of it by making a new record. And
- 8:29Speaker 2: was to be like, well you just you ship on
- 8:32Speaker 2: not ever doing something that wasn't respectable.
- 8:34Speaker 1: It's just with this piece of shit record. But it
- 8:37Speaker 1: turned out okay.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I feel you know, I feel like we did justice
- 8:42Speaker 2: to the rest of our catalog and.
- 8:44Speaker 1: To ourselves most importantly.
- 8:47Speaker 4: And did you find it was mutually all defense of
- 8:49Speaker 4: the band coming back into the band.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Would you find it sort of credit all in your
- 8:52Speaker 3: market over the.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Jong I have no idea. I don't pay attention.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm always I'm always astonished because I you see young,
- 9:00Speaker 2: younger folks at our shows that I'm just like cool,
- 9:04Speaker 2: you know, that's that's cool. That it's pretty surreal to
- 9:10Speaker 2: be part of something that is that old and still.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Finding new ears.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Yeah, very cool.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Before we got you know, I never thought I would
- 9:21Speaker 2: be lucky enough to say that, Yeah.
- 9:24Speaker 3: That's very cool, very cool. Before we go. Do you
- 9:27Speaker 3: remember the first song you ever heard one of your
- 9:29Speaker 3: songs on the radio? And way at the time.
- 9:33Speaker 7: Oh Jesus, I mean I remember the very first time,
- 9:38Speaker 7: but it was the college station for the University of Miami,
- 9:41Speaker 7: and I think, you know, some of us were still
- 9:45Speaker 7: in high school.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I think I was just out of high school and
- 9:48Speaker 1: I was like, oh, it's cool.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But like other than that, I think it was a
- 9:55Speaker 2: a station in Boston that we did a radio interview
- 9:57Speaker 2: with and the first time I heard our band on
- 9:59Speaker 2: the radio as being at a radio station, Yeah.
- 10:02Speaker 4: I have that you failed did your listener and go, yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 4: I guess I can't believe it's that on that No.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It was just surreal where it was like I can't
- 10:10Speaker 2: believe this is my life. It's still kind of like
- 10:14Speaker 2: that sometimes I can't. It just doesn't compute, like as
- 10:19Speaker 2: it didn't seem doesn't seem possible when you think about
- 10:22Speaker 2: it and oh.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Brival, thanks very much for your time righting.
- 10:26Speaker 4: The tour does pick off on Tree to seventy Perth,
- 10:29Speaker 4: which is this weekend, so best of blanket grab your
- 10:32Speaker 4: tickets
- 10:33Speaker 1: All right, thank you,
