- 0:09Speaker 1: of Vigion pocket Welcome to Patriot It's unfiltered. Let's talk
- 0:19Speaker 1: about the game that the Patriots had with the Bengals.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Didn't help obviously the Bengals that he went down? What
- 0:29Speaker 1: why am I thinking? I had a confusion. Yeah, so
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm rattled. Oh my goddim ran for his life in
- 0:37Speaker 1: a whole game and at least a half a second
- 0:39Speaker 1: more for long routes to unbelievable. I've had this argument
- 0:43Speaker 1: with the guy that writes that article because he's not
- 0:46Speaker 1: watching the Patriots play. What does he watch? I'm very consistent.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I ignore all off. Yeah, but we don't know what
- 0:52Speaker 1: he's missing. I know what he's missing. Oh, you know.
- 0:57Speaker 1: They do not score points when he is on the field.
- 1:00Speaker 1: That's why people are questioning him. No, it's not that,
- 1:03Speaker 1: it's like, it's not that hard to crack the code.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It's not why people are questioning him though. The reason
- 1:08Speaker 1: why people are questioning him is because he doesn't look
- 1:11Speaker 1: pretty playing football. You know why he doesn't look pretty
- 1:13Speaker 1: playing football because they don't move said football into the
- 1:17Speaker 1: end zone. I get it, and everybody's wrong. This is
- 1:21Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It is Wednesday here at Lets Stadium, and uh, we're
- 1:33Speaker 1: still dealing with the aftermath of what happened Monday night. Um.
- 1:36Speaker 1: The Patriots announced probably about an hour ago that they
- 1:41Speaker 1: had canceled media availability today. It was supposed to be
- 1:44Speaker 1: Bill's press conference at eleven forty five, you know, and
- 1:48Speaker 1: then later on open locker room, and that's been canceled.
- 1:52Speaker 1: There is practice. They are practicing, and we'll have cameras
- 1:55Speaker 1: out there, uh, you know for the warm up as
- 1:58Speaker 1: we usually do, and you'll see that at on Patriots
- 2:00Speaker 1: dot com later. So they are practicing up in Buffalo. Um,
- 2:05Speaker 1: they're having a walkthrough today in meetings, and uh, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: we'll see what's going on there. So it's deuced. It's Paul,
- 2:14Speaker 1: it's myself, it's Matt in the booth, and you know, Um,
- 2:17Speaker 1: in terms of like, you know, talking about the Bills
- 2:19Speaker 1: game and all that stuff, I think I'd like to
- 2:21Speaker 1: wait until we hear from the Bills that yeah, we're playing,
- 2:25Speaker 1: you know, and I think, in my opinion, that's kind
- 2:27Speaker 1: of I think that's why the Patriots canceled practice availability
- 2:31Speaker 1: today because the Bills weren't having it, and it's like, okay, well,
- 2:35Speaker 1: let's let's not be the first to have to talk
- 2:37Speaker 1: about Sunday. Let's let them talk first. I mean, I
- 2:42Speaker 1: think the Bills announced that they're having a walkthrough today,
- 2:45Speaker 1: so they are having a walkthrough. I don't think you
- 2:46Speaker 1: have a walkthrough if you're not playing the game. Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know. And so I mean,
- 2:52Speaker 1: you know, yeah, some some positive reports about DeMar Hamlin's condition,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and I mean nothing crazy, but some positive developments. So
- 2:59Speaker 1: that's good to hear. And I mean, the more you
- 3:01Speaker 1: can hear that stuff, that yeah, I think it's easier
- 3:03Speaker 1: for the teams to start to go back to normal
- 3:05Speaker 1: and establish a routine if they feel like he's gonna
- 3:07Speaker 1: be okay, and you know, they can maybe just make
- 3:09Speaker 1: peace with it all. But I think two days later,
- 3:11Speaker 1: everybody's still kind of Yeah, it's hard because you don't know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you don't you still have the uncertainty. But I do
- 3:16Speaker 1: think that that you know, everybody's different. I get in
- 3:19Speaker 1: this day and age, you know, there's so many different
- 3:21Speaker 1: ways to deal with adversity. But I do feel like
- 3:26Speaker 1: what you said, Mike, you know, there's some signs of
- 3:30Speaker 1: hope and maybe, you know, you start to get back
- 3:33Speaker 1: to a little bit more of a sense of normalcy
- 3:35Speaker 1: and you can you know, that kind of helps you
- 3:38Speaker 1: cope with it a little bit more. Yeah, and as
- 3:41Speaker 1: far as you know, the game that was supposed to
- 3:44Speaker 1: be played, the Bengals and Bills game, the league said
- 3:46Speaker 1: there is no plans to replay that game at this time. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 1: so so maybe, I mean, maybe the plan right now
- 3:53Speaker 1: is hopefully get all the Week eighteen games off and
- 3:55Speaker 1: then revisit where Cincinnati and Buffalo are and what would
- 3:59Speaker 1: have that impact of that game had had. And you know,
- 4:02Speaker 1: maybe there's uh, you know, some kind of I saw
- 4:05Speaker 1: I think it was Evan told me upstairs, like maybe
- 4:07Speaker 1: some consideration of a neutral site game if they were
- 4:10Speaker 1: to play in the playoffs, to kind of Um, I'm
- 4:12Speaker 1: not sure where that speculation was coming, but I don't know,
- 4:14Speaker 1: some kind of creative kind of to me, that's it.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I just think it's a tie. Bills agree to live
- 4:23Speaker 1: with the results, Bengals agree to live with the results,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and you know, both teams are giving up a chance
- 4:30Speaker 1: to be, you know, a little higher seed than they
- 4:32Speaker 1: would be otherwise, and and that's it. You'll live with it. Yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 1: you kind of hope in Kansas City wins and then
- 4:37Speaker 1: just takes the number one seed, just kind of takes
- 4:39Speaker 1: that out of the equation. And I prefer not to
- 4:42Speaker 1: have these two teams wondering what if you know that
- 4:45Speaker 1: the door was opened for us to maybe get a
- 4:46Speaker 1: buy um. Oh, but the Kansas City loss would would
- 4:50Speaker 1: do that? The win Buffalo wins the two games and
- 4:53Speaker 1: they're the one, right. But but I'm saying without the set,
- 4:57Speaker 1: without the Sinci game, if that doesn't count like that.
- 4:59Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying is if Kansas City loses, you
- 5:03Speaker 1: could make the argument that the Cincinnati game doesn't matter.
- 5:08Speaker 1: But if Kansas City wins, Kansas City is going to
- 5:11Speaker 1: end up getting the one seed. If they don't play
- 5:12Speaker 1: that game, yeah, and I they're tied. Yeah, but if
- 5:18Speaker 1: if the Bills don't play that last game, they won't
- 5:21Speaker 1: be tied. There'll be a half a game different. So
- 5:24Speaker 1: that's why if they lose, but then Cincinnati would have
- 5:27Speaker 1: a chance, right, I think I think I'm I think
- 5:29Speaker 1: I'm an overkill right now for like playoff odds and scenarios,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and I just think over the last six weeks, I've
- 5:35Speaker 1: kind of lost my ability. I do like the idea,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and I know, Fred, you said you'd think it's because
- 5:39Speaker 1: I actually heard this a lot from Believe It or
- 5:41Speaker 1: Not callers yesterday when I was driving home suggesting what
- 5:47Speaker 1: we said yesterday. You know, if Kansas City, I mean,
- 5:50Speaker 1: I'm sorry, if Cincinnati and Buffalo agree to not play
- 5:54Speaker 1: the game and just accept the two and three seed, ye,
- 5:58Speaker 1: assuming they all win on Saturday over on week eighteen. Um.
- 6:04Speaker 1: But then so now Kansas City got the one seed
- 6:07Speaker 1: and we'll give them to buy. But perhaps if Kansas
- 6:11Speaker 1: City and Buffalo meet in the AFC Championship Game, you
- 6:14Speaker 1: don't play it in Kansas City. You play it somewhat,
- 6:16Speaker 1: either in Buffalo or some neutral site. I it's not
- 6:21Speaker 1: it's not a terrible idea, but it's it's also what
- 6:24Speaker 1: about the tickets. What about the season ticket holder tickets
- 6:28Speaker 1: that had tickets in Kansas City And this is part
- 6:31Speaker 1: of their thing now, they're part of their packages that
- 6:33Speaker 1: you get to see this playoff game. But you can't
- 6:35Speaker 1: sell those yet. No, I know, but this, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, right now, they're the two seeds,
- 6:43Speaker 1: so they're not selling AFC Championship game tickets. See an
- 6:47Speaker 1: AFC Championship in Detroit. That might be kind of fine out,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but Bills get to play another how they Detroit? No,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I mean, I think there's a lot of flawed there's
- 6:59Speaker 1: not scenarios like that. I think the only way to
- 7:01Speaker 1: do it equitably is to play out week eighteen and
- 7:07Speaker 1: then have the Bills in the Bengals play the following
- 7:10Speaker 1: week and push the start of the play. Yeah. Yeah,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna end up doing that. I
- 7:16Speaker 1: don't think they're gonna end up playing that Buffalo Cincinnati
- 7:18Speaker 1: game at all. Yeah, I don't think so either. Yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 1: And the only way it wouldn't matter is if both
- 7:24Speaker 1: Kansas City, if Buffalo wins in Kansas City and Cincinnati
- 7:28Speaker 1: both lose, then you don't need to play the game.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And it's one two three Buffalo one, Kansas City two,
- 7:34Speaker 1: Cincinnati three. So maybe the Patriots will just say, you
- 7:38Speaker 1: know what, you guys, go ahead, go ahead beat us. No. No,
- 7:43Speaker 1: but I mean, but I mean, unfortunately, I do wonder,
- 7:46Speaker 1: you know, where's Buffalo's mindset going to be by Sunday?
- 7:49Speaker 1: And you know it's uh, just whatever happens to the
- 7:52Speaker 1: rest of the season's going to be spun as this.
- 7:54Speaker 1: If you let's let's play. Let's do a little role play.
- 7:57Speaker 1: If you're Sean McDermott, how do you you know and
- 8:02Speaker 1: you've you're as an organization, you've made the decision we're
- 8:04Speaker 1: gonna play on Sunday. How do you approach that? How
- 8:07Speaker 1: do you now? What do you do? And I'll quote
- 8:10Speaker 1: our best foot for yeah, this is how this is
- 8:12Speaker 1: how you know Demark? You know DeMar would have wanted
- 8:15Speaker 1: us to do this, and you try to do that,
- 8:18Speaker 1: but that doesn't mean you do it right. That's what
- 8:20Speaker 1: Sean McDermott. I would be like, listen, what would be
- 8:23Speaker 1: better for when DeMar is better and he regains consciousness
- 8:27Speaker 1: to know that we played in one for him? Yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 1: I mean, what a gift that would be to him
- 8:33Speaker 1: for us to do that. I you know, and I
- 8:34Speaker 1: would do that, and I'd say, you know, like we're professionals,
- 8:37Speaker 1: were you know, this is we owe it to each other.
- 8:40Speaker 1: We're gonna go out and they'll probably come out foaming
- 8:43Speaker 1: at the mouth. Yeah, you know, that's I mean, I
- 8:45Speaker 1: do I think they will. I just think it's interesting
- 8:47Speaker 1: that they have one more regular season game that doesn't
- 8:49Speaker 1: really mean a whole heck of a lot. So you know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's just it's if the playoffs were starting, I could see,
- 8:54Speaker 1: all right, that's a button you can push. It's just
- 8:56Speaker 1: having gone through plenty of these kind of Patriots Week
- 8:59Speaker 1: seventeen back then, games where you're like, I don't know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: are we gonna play our starters in this game? Like,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but here's the thing. Okay, so like what you just
- 9:05Speaker 1: said again, going back to Sean McDermott, tough game for everybody.
- 9:10Speaker 1: So I'm going to wrest my starters and they don't
- 9:12Speaker 1: have to play in this in this game, you know
- 9:14Speaker 1: what I mean? Don't you know, I don't think that's
- 9:16Speaker 1: on the table. Yeah, oh okay, you guys, you know
- 9:21Speaker 1: I can't win. You can't win, So you just gotta
- 9:24Speaker 1: say we're going out there and we're yeah, and that's
- 9:26Speaker 1: probably what they have to do. Um, you know, I
- 9:29Speaker 1: think i'd like to. I mean, you're seeing all the
- 9:31Speaker 1: support that the other teams are giving. Um, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 1: maybe something before the game in terms of the two
- 9:36Speaker 1: teams kind of you know, just showing support with each other,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and you know, I think, I mean, I think everybody
- 9:41Speaker 1: wants to get to that point where you know, we
- 9:43Speaker 1: can just get back to playing and a sense of normalcy.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And you know, it's just a hard period right after
- 9:48Speaker 1: it happens and there's uncertainty with what is going on.
- 9:50Speaker 1: But you know, I just hope that the players it's
- 9:53Speaker 1: not just about rallying your team. I think it's about
- 9:55Speaker 1: rallying all NFL players and you know, all these guys
- 9:57Speaker 1: that do this together and you know, have a respect
- 9:59Speaker 1: for the game and for each other, and you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: hopefully that that's a little bit of the something that
- 10:04Speaker 1: can come out of this. It's just a you know,
- 10:06Speaker 1: a reminder of this NFL players that they are a
- 10:08Speaker 1: family as much as they compete hard. And I mean
- 10:11Speaker 1: that was the vibe I got when when he first
- 10:12Speaker 1: got hurt on the field, and just you know, seeing
- 10:14Speaker 1: like in the middle of a field, seeing Joe Burrow
- 10:16Speaker 1: and Josh Allen, two guys who are gunning for Super
- 10:19Speaker 1: Bowls and and you know, really serious about competition and everything.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Just seeing them stand together as two dudes, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: watching a terrible situation unfold. It's just you know, it's
- 10:28Speaker 1: just a reminder, this is just football. Yeah, that's life
- 10:30Speaker 1: and death. What we're right, right, But you know, I
- 10:32Speaker 1: think everybody wants to get back to you know, football
- 10:35Speaker 1: and the playoffs, and you know, I think that that's
- 10:37Speaker 1: you know, had this happened in the middle of the season,
- 10:39Speaker 1: you know, it might get kind of buried along the
- 10:41Speaker 1: way by the time you get to the playoffs. Now
- 10:43Speaker 1: you're gonna go in the playoffs, this is gonna be
- 10:44Speaker 1: a storyline, something that's talked about, you know, whether Buffalo
- 10:48Speaker 1: is playing, whether they're not playing. Um, you know, this
- 10:50Speaker 1: whole playoffs is probably gonna you know, revolve heavily around
- 10:54Speaker 1: him and his recovery and you know, just all the
- 10:57Speaker 1: events that have been unfolding over the last couple of days. Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 1: So again there's no there's no right answers, um. But
- 11:04Speaker 1: I do feel like the signs are certainly pointing now
- 11:09Speaker 1: towards you know, business as usual for week eighteen. Yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 1: we had that, you know, the communication from the NFL
- 11:16Speaker 1: yesterday that that said as much, and I haven't really
- 11:18Speaker 1: seen anything out of the ordinary. And again, the fact
- 11:21Speaker 1: that they had that report this morning that Buffalo planned
- 11:23Speaker 1: to come in for to meet and have a walkthrough.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Now they didn't. They're not having media availability, but everything
- 11:31Speaker 1: else is as would normally be the case for a
- 11:33Speaker 1: team that played on Monday night, right, Yeah, get the
- 11:36Speaker 1: routine down. I mean, I think you know, let's look,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I think you just you can't just sit in your
- 11:39Speaker 1: room and feel bad, you know about the situation. You
- 11:42Speaker 1: have to you know, get back into into things. Of course.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Yeah it's not like you forget about it, but you
- 11:47Speaker 1: you go about your business and you know, you deal
- 11:50Speaker 1: with it. I mean, and it's it's it's just you
- 11:52Speaker 1: feel bad, you know. I mean I feel bad for Buffalo, course,
- 11:55Speaker 1: but just you know, this is this is a real
- 11:58Speaker 1: chance for them. I mean, these are they're in the
- 11:59Speaker 1: prime years right now, and I remember how I felt
- 12:01Speaker 1: with you know, with Brady and Belichick and the mid
- 12:04Speaker 1: two thousands of you know, this is it. We got
- 12:06Speaker 1: to make the most of every chance. And you know,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you just you wonder how the team is gonna gonna respond.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I think, you know, by the time the playoffs come
- 12:12Speaker 1: around a couple of weeks, I would expect that they
- 12:14Speaker 1: will be, you know fully mentally engaged and back from
- 12:17Speaker 1: from everything that they've been going through over these couple
- 12:19Speaker 1: of weeks. I just I just wonder where they're going
- 12:21Speaker 1: to be at mentally this week. As as it's, as
- 12:23Speaker 1: I said, like a game that isn't everything on the
- 12:25Speaker 1: on the line. It's you know, a team that you
- 12:27Speaker 1: I mean, let's face it, you haven't really had much
- 12:29Speaker 1: trouble with um and the Patriots are coming in they
- 12:32Speaker 1: desperately need to win. It's just it's such a weird
- 12:35Speaker 1: kind of bunch of ingredients going into this game. Yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 1: I do. I think it's a tough situation. And you know,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I know there was even a lot of talk about
- 12:43Speaker 1: whether or not buff Like, you know, the league could
- 12:46Speaker 1: say that you're playing and Buffalo could say, well, we're
- 12:47Speaker 1: not playing, right they could. So I wonder where people
- 12:50Speaker 1: think that's that's what happened Monday night. Yeah, yeah, but
- 12:54Speaker 1: I wonder what would happen if if that's the case,
- 12:59Speaker 1: like the league declare it a forfeit, and how does that,
- 13:02Speaker 1: like is that a win for the Patriots. Hate to
- 13:07Speaker 1: be callous or but down callous, but if the Bills,
- 13:09Speaker 1: if the league says games on and the Bills say no,
- 13:12Speaker 1: we're not playing. Is it a no content a forfeit?
- 13:15Speaker 1: The league has to say it's a forfeit. I don't say.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I don't know what the league has to say. And
- 13:19Speaker 1: and I think there's there's two different things, because one
- 13:22Speaker 1: of them would put the Patriots at nine and eight
- 13:24Speaker 1: in the playoffs. The other one would put him at
- 13:26Speaker 1: eight and eight. Now, right, yeah, you know, assuming one
- 13:30Speaker 1: of those three teams wins. Yeah, so I don't know
- 13:33Speaker 1: exactly how that would be a handle. I would just hope,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I mean, I hope. I just they gotta do what
- 13:39Speaker 1: they gotta do. But you know, having a walk through today,
- 13:42Speaker 1: maybe they have practice tomorrow, Like are you in it?
- 13:45Speaker 1: Like I think by that point you kind of know
- 13:46Speaker 1: if you're going to be able to at least mentally
- 13:48Speaker 1: lock in on playing football again. And you know, I
- 13:51Speaker 1: would just I would hope that, you know, we can
- 13:53Speaker 1: get kind of that stuff out of the way before
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know, oh, Friday afternoon, Friday night, you know what,
- 13:58Speaker 1: we don't think we're gonna play this game. Like, if
- 14:00Speaker 1: you don't think you're gonna be able to do it,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I think they need to oh yeah, find out immediately,
- 14:05Speaker 1: get on the plane let's only know what happens there.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I get to Kansas City, find out that game has
- 14:10Speaker 1: been schedule. I remember that one Calm Newton that wasn't
- 14:15Speaker 1: fun that game? Yeah, uh okay, So what do we
- 14:21Speaker 1: want to talk about here? Um? You know Patriots? Yeah,
- 14:26Speaker 1: I guess we could get into him. Um, well what
- 14:28Speaker 1: it's hard to talk about like a game that Yeah,
- 14:31Speaker 1: it's hard to talk about beating Buffalo. And there's so
- 14:33Speaker 1: many things on my mind about this rivalry and what
- 14:35Speaker 1: it's become over the recent matchups. And you know, just
- 14:39Speaker 1: how Josh Allen and Stefan Diggs, what they've been able
- 14:41Speaker 1: to do against the Patriots, you know, just I mean
- 14:44Speaker 1: there is then that back of my mind when you
- 14:45Speaker 1: when you do click in that football thing is is
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know what, what have the Patriots learned from all
- 14:49Speaker 1: these matchups? I mean, he's just he has he's been
- 14:52Speaker 1: basically just playing backyard football against them. It feels like
- 14:56Speaker 1: these last few matchups, Um, you know, how how like
- 15:00Speaker 1: how many more curveballs do you have to throw? You know,
- 15:02Speaker 1: like that's my question with the Patriots defense, like what
- 15:05Speaker 1: what can you really show them that's new? Now? It
- 15:07Speaker 1: feels like he's probably seen everything. Does it just come
- 15:10Speaker 1: down to you've got to have a night where you're on,
- 15:12Speaker 1: your best players are on, and he's a little bit
- 15:14Speaker 1: off that. Yeah, it's just survived. There's no scheme that
- 15:17Speaker 1: you can be like, well, if you just did more
- 15:19Speaker 1: of this zone or that you know, like this, there's
- 15:21Speaker 1: not really any of that anymore. It's just it's just survival.
- 15:24Speaker 1: It's hard to say, how you how do you take
- 15:26Speaker 1: that guy down? He's I mean, I think that we
- 15:28Speaker 1: always focus on how do you stop the other team?
- 15:31Speaker 1: And this year, to me, no one talks about the
- 15:36Speaker 1: other side of the ball. I think that's the only
- 15:38Speaker 1: way you win the game, right well, is if you
- 15:41Speaker 1: do something you haven't done all year, and that's score.
- 15:43Speaker 1: But you know why, no one's because there's no sense
- 15:46Speaker 1: in it. There's no point in it. But it's not
- 15:48Speaker 1: gonna change. But I think there's just a little point
- 15:51Speaker 1: in saying you're gonna win the game thirteen ten not happening. Yeah,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I mean provided that the weather is normal, right, yeah, yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 1: So if you're gonna do it, Yeah, you can sit
- 16:02Speaker 1: there and say, well, we gotta force four turnovers, maybe
- 16:05Speaker 1: get maybe get a kickoff return for a touchdown like yees, yeah,
- 16:08Speaker 1: all that if you do those things, you will have
- 16:10Speaker 1: a chance to win. You don't plan that, but you
- 16:12Speaker 1: can't plan that exactly. And you know we were doing
- 16:15Speaker 1: we were doing all access and I picked twenty seven
- 16:18Speaker 1: thirteen bills, which is what I felt before the tragedy
- 16:23Speaker 1: of Monday Night. So assuming that they're able to play,
- 16:29Speaker 1: I think that that's around the difference. I think in
- 16:32Speaker 1: the teams. There's a couple of touchdowns. And when I
- 16:34Speaker 1: gave my score, Mike immediately Mike Reese immediately looked at me.
- 16:39Speaker 1: It goes, oh, you don't You don't think they're gonna score.
- 16:41Speaker 1: You're thirteen, And I was like, I mean, unless they're
- 16:45Speaker 1: gonna make it five weeks in a row with a
- 16:46Speaker 1: defensive touchdown, Like have people like suddenly thought that all?
- 16:51Speaker 1: You know, I think things are different now, Like they
- 16:54Speaker 1: score a defensive touchdown every week. At some point you're
- 16:58Speaker 1: just not gonna get You could play great defense on Sunday, Mike,
- 17:00Speaker 1: you have not score. I see a stack of papers
- 17:03Speaker 1: in front of you. You have in front of you,
- 17:05Speaker 1: probably not the amount of offensive points the Patriots of
- 17:09Speaker 1: Oh Fred Fred, Yes, okay, yes, I do hours. This
- 17:14Speaker 1: real offensive points. So this is the touchdown log. This
- 17:17Speaker 1: is every touchdown they scored this year. The blue highlights
- 17:19Speaker 1: are the defensive scores. The pink one is Marcus joneses.
- 17:23Speaker 1: So they've scored twenty eight offensive touchdowns, which is roughly
- 17:26Speaker 1: one point seven five offensive touchdowns per game, which mathematically
- 17:30Speaker 1: is twelve point two five points a game offensively, it
- 17:34Speaker 1: how does that compare to even the last three years
- 17:37Speaker 1: when you know everything was not good, Well, it would
- 17:40Speaker 1: certainly drop them down. I mean, there's seventeenth and points
- 17:42Speaker 1: right now, so you know, I mean that's that's the
- 17:45Speaker 1: middle of the pack, the best. So take out but
- 17:47Speaker 1: the seventeenth of point includes all the points, right that's
- 17:50Speaker 1: take out fifty take out fifty six. And I even
- 17:53Speaker 1: think that their offensive touchdown to deceiving because so many
- 17:56Speaker 1: of them were set up by the defense. And that's
- 17:58Speaker 1: that's and I mean, and some of them, I mean,
- 18:00Speaker 1: depending on how you want to feel about it, or
- 18:01Speaker 1: you know, like the Marcus Jones pass, you know, like
- 18:04Speaker 1: like little big plays that they kind of caught teams on.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's just touchdown, but it's just how many
- 18:11Speaker 1: of these it came from, Like all art. That was
- 18:13Speaker 1: a ten play, seventy five yard touchdown scoring drive. There's
- 18:17Speaker 1: probably like four of those in here, you know. The
- 18:19Speaker 1: rest of them are like, oh, they got it off
- 18:21Speaker 1: a turno, they got it off a turnover the fifty that,
- 18:24Speaker 1: you know, and then they hit a play down this side,
- 18:26Speaker 1: you know, like that. It's just but I'm glad, I'm
- 18:28Speaker 1: glad I have that. That was remarkable. I thought for
- 18:30Speaker 1: sure I wouldn't have it. But yeah, but it is
- 18:32Speaker 1: interesting when you kind of look at it. Twelve point seven, yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 1: twelve point two five offensive points per game, per per game,
- 18:39Speaker 1: that's I mean, and that's counting points that were set
- 18:42Speaker 1: up like because I'm telling you you, I mean, I
- 18:46Speaker 1: can't even count how many pick threes they had. Like
- 18:49Speaker 1: there was a stretch where they were picking off passes,
- 18:51Speaker 1: running them back to the seventeen yard line, going out
- 18:54Speaker 1: and kicking a field goal. Yea. I remember remember the
- 18:57Speaker 1: season where I said, you know, the Patriots are going
- 18:59Speaker 1: to have a defense, and oh, what do you think
- 19:01Speaker 1: the points per game yet? And I said, like fifteen
- 19:04Speaker 1: point eight, you know that's a low average, and we're
- 19:09Speaker 1: at twelve point seven and you ended up being right there. Yeah,
- 19:11Speaker 1: I was right on the Why is that the reason
- 19:13Speaker 1: why you brought it up? Yeah? No, but I just
- 19:15Speaker 1: remember thinking, Okay, it's gonna be low, but it can't
- 19:18Speaker 1: be too low because that's unrealistic. Imagine predicting twelve point seven. Well,
- 19:23Speaker 1: it falls right on it. With his score prediction, you
- 19:25Speaker 1: predicted thirteen points. I mean, that's the if they don't
- 19:27Speaker 1: get a defensive score, that's what they' And that's just
- 19:30Speaker 1: what I'm and that's all. I'm not trying to like
- 19:32Speaker 1: say that Buffalo matches up and does this. I'm just
- 19:34Speaker 1: going by the other games. Yeah, like if you again,
- 19:38Speaker 1: if the Patriots return another pick for a touchdown or
- 19:43Speaker 1: you know, maybe get something set up by Yeah, so
- 19:46Speaker 1: it could go to twenty or whatever, ill I would
- 19:50Speaker 1: up it. So I would like to you know, I
- 19:51Speaker 1: can't predict that though, I like, So, do we know
- 19:55Speaker 1: we're twelve points? You said, well, seventeen overall, But do
- 19:59Speaker 1: you know where twelve points? I have an offensive points rank?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Uh No, I'd have to go back to you there.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I mean I do. I do have the Patriots TVOA overall.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Because you know, there was a report today and I
- 20:12Speaker 1: didn't click on it, but it was Barstool saying that
- 20:16Speaker 1: mister Kraft is really unhappy and is going to demand
- 20:21Speaker 1: offensive changes. So I didn't read it. I think you
- 20:24Speaker 1: need to be very careful with the word demand. I know,
- 20:27Speaker 1: like I know, I think that could go. I didn't
- 20:29Speaker 1: read it. Less you don't care. I don't know if
- 20:30Speaker 1: any of you guys had read it, and if it's
- 20:32Speaker 1: credible or no. I saw the speculation, and I know
- 20:35Speaker 1: Wi God bless am ass Bill directly about it on
- 20:38Speaker 1: their on their weekly thing. Um, I don't know. I mean,
- 20:41Speaker 1: we've been getting reports like this all year long. I mean,
- 20:43Speaker 1: it's it's ever since, you know, whenever. I guess last
- 20:46Speaker 1: year before, you know, all that stuff. But I don't
- 20:47Speaker 1: know if there's anything new that he said to somebody.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You know, it's all speculation, And I mean I didn't
- 20:53Speaker 1: see I don't do the barstool stuff, Yeah, but I didn't.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I mean, like Mike said, I've certainly seen a lot
- 21:00Speaker 1: of different people right things to that. You know, Yeah,
- 21:03Speaker 1: a lot of those lines. Why we know he's not happy?
- 21:06Speaker 1: How can he be He wasn't happy at the beginning
- 21:08Speaker 1: of the season. How can they be happy now? I'm
- 21:10Speaker 1: not happy? You know? Who is happy? You know, M Paul,
- 21:14Speaker 1: If you wanted to know the Patriots DVOA um offense
- 21:17Speaker 1: twenty sixth overall, twenty fifth run, twenty fourth pass defensively
- 21:23Speaker 1: third eighth. That doesn't do points. No Oh, I thought
- 21:27Speaker 1: DVOA was like an adjusted point total. I thought they
- 21:31Speaker 1: took out overall points that were set up by the defense.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I had a different opinion of what DVOA. But I
- 21:37Speaker 1: mean they're twenty six in yards. I mean just the
- 21:39Speaker 1: standard yard stat. I mean twenty six. You know, it's
- 21:42Speaker 1: usually that's not a great stat. But I mean they're
- 21:45Speaker 1: twenty eighth. Even when Cam was here that it wasn't
- 21:49Speaker 1: that bad, right, I think that's I think that's what
- 21:52Speaker 1: a lot of people are. Yeah, come and realizes that
- 21:54Speaker 1: the twenty twenty offense was actually more productive than this year.
- 21:57Speaker 1: This is similar to that only Cam for touchdowns, right, Yeah, right,
- 22:01Speaker 1: had that whole twist to play with. But they didn't
- 22:03Speaker 1: move the ball in twenty twenty either for the most part.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I mean it's probably better than this. Yeah, So, I
- 22:10Speaker 1: mean this problems. This problems obviously, And because like I said,
- 22:16Speaker 1: we're not watching a normal NFL passing offense. You know,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I think when they run, you know, it looks, it
- 22:23Speaker 1: looks Okay, it's not great, but but I mean it's
- 22:27Speaker 1: it's not like what am I watching here, you know.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I mean I didn't want to say that the I mean,
- 22:31Speaker 1: as disappointing and bad as the passing game has been,
- 22:34Speaker 1: like I'm almost a little more disappointed in the run game,
- 22:36Speaker 1: just because they really needed it and they can have
- 22:38Speaker 1: to factor in what other teams have to worry about it,
- 22:42Speaker 1: and they're just like me, they're not worried about the
- 22:44Speaker 1: passing game. But I go ahead, you know, but go
- 22:47Speaker 1: throw it. You know, but we're gonna we're not gonna
- 22:49Speaker 1: let your run you We're not gonna let you kill
- 22:52Speaker 1: clock and shorten the game. You're gonna have to throw
- 22:55Speaker 1: the ball, you know. Yeah. I mean I think when
- 22:58Speaker 1: I look at, you know, the offensive line, like going
- 23:00Speaker 1: into the season, what they had, like I just I
- 23:03Speaker 1: would think they could maybe run the ball with on
- 23:05Speaker 1: when you is pretty good run blocker, you know, Trent
- 23:07Speaker 1: Brown's a big dude. It's just I mean, it's it's
- 23:09Speaker 1: one thing to be not productive and it's another thing.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But it kind of goes to show, like pretty much
- 23:14Speaker 1: any team in the NFL. If all they have to
- 23:17Speaker 1: do is worry about the run, they can stop the run.
- 23:20Speaker 1: They can keep it down. You know, I could just
- 23:22Speaker 1: load the box. Yeah, you can do it. I guess what.
- 23:25Speaker 1: To your point, Fred, it's almost like kind of like
- 23:27Speaker 1: the defense, Like the defense is just waiting to have
- 23:29Speaker 1: a complimentary offense. The running games kind of waiting for
- 23:31Speaker 1: a complimentary pass. Absolutely open it up a little bit. Yeah,
- 23:36Speaker 1: it's yeah, but I can see it. But they haven't
- 23:38Speaker 1: been great at either one. I agree. I mean there
- 23:40Speaker 1: are teams that only throw, only run, and they run
- 23:43Speaker 1: better than that. Yeah, you know Carolina lately? Yeah, I
- 23:46Speaker 1: mean Caroline, I mean Tennessee for five years. Well, I
- 23:50Speaker 1: think if we had Derrick Henry, we'd be a little
- 23:52Speaker 1: better running. We don't. I'd be excited. Oh, if you're
- 23:57Speaker 1: listening to this show, who love him on? Yeah? I do.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I think he's the best player. How many times I
- 24:03Speaker 1: say the best player on the team team, except don't
- 24:05Speaker 1: give him the ball at the end of the game. Correct,
- 24:08Speaker 1: I might have to go to second best after the
- 24:11Speaker 1: last couple of all Right. Five five hundred is the
- 24:15Speaker 1: ace ticket hot Line web radio at Patrice dot com.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Is the email address. Let's go to the phone. See
- 24:20Speaker 1: what's on your mind. Uh, Patty's an agaam, what's up, Patty?
- 24:25Speaker 1: What's going on? Guys? Hey? So, I think, like most
- 24:30Speaker 1: of the country on Monday night, I was when I
- 24:32Speaker 1: saw the ambulance come out, I was waiting for him,
- 24:35Speaker 1: uh hamlet a gill on the gurney and give the
- 24:37Speaker 1: thumbs up. And just seeing the player's faces like I
- 24:40Speaker 1: wasn't even really listening to the uh, the Joe Buck
- 24:43Speaker 1: and Troy Igman, and just like seeing Stefan big cry
- 24:48Speaker 1: and um, we look on these players faces. I was like,
- 24:51Speaker 1: oh geez. I mean, I know we were all thinking
- 24:53Speaker 1: the worst here, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, um and
- 24:58Speaker 1: uh just going on. You know, if they do end
- 25:02Speaker 1: up playing this week, I'm sure each one of you guys,
- 25:06Speaker 1: much like myself, has experienced something crazy like a loved one,
- 25:11Speaker 1: you know, passing or somebody having a heart attack. I mean,
- 25:14Speaker 1: that's not something you could over in a week. So yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 1: and I'm not saying this to sound funny or be funny,
- 25:19Speaker 1: but like, honestly, if they Buffalo lines up, I don't
- 25:23Speaker 1: know how mentally they're gonna be in the game on Sunday,
- 25:26Speaker 1: and I mean that could affect them winning or losing,
- 25:29Speaker 1: but possibly losing the game and ultimately I just hope
- 25:33Speaker 1: the kids are right and you know, I hope be
- 25:36Speaker 1: pulled through and h I mean, I've never seen anything
- 25:40Speaker 1: like that. I mean, assuming they play. This is a
- 25:43Speaker 1: true test of McDermott's leadership because it's gonna be his
- 25:46Speaker 1: job to make sure his players are focused because you
- 25:50Speaker 1: can't go out there, yeah, not focused. I disagree, you're
- 25:53Speaker 1: gonna get hurt. It's not like he's gonna say all
- 25:56Speaker 1: of those things. He cannot force these guys to be focused.
- 26:00Speaker 1: That's up to each individual player to do it for him.
- 26:03Speaker 1: But he's going to do everything in his power. I'm
- 26:05Speaker 1: sure he will to help them focus. He's not going
- 26:07Speaker 1: to sit there and say I don't want to play either, guys,
- 26:10Speaker 1: but they're making us. He's not gonna do that. Like
- 26:13Speaker 1: like Stefan Digs on the sideline that night when they
- 26:17Speaker 1: thought they had to play, was trying to try and
- 26:19Speaker 1: no one was listening, right, So, like, I know that's
- 26:22Speaker 1: what they're going to do. It's just a matter of
- 26:23Speaker 1: whether or not they get enough guys that do it. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I mean I think for me, it's I think he's
- 26:28Speaker 1: going to try, But I think his harder job is
- 26:31Speaker 1: is taking inventory is his team ready? Is it right?
- 26:35Speaker 1: And being willing to say I don't think we're ready,
- 26:38Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like like I don't think
- 26:39Speaker 1: he can. No speech is going to get him over it.
- 26:42Speaker 1: They need to get out there, feel it out. Are
- 26:44Speaker 1: we just not gonna be able to mentally lock him
- 26:46Speaker 1: because then you're talking about other injuries. Guys are going
- 26:48Speaker 1: to go into that game on focus, Like he has
- 26:49Speaker 1: to have a finger on the pulse of this team
- 26:51Speaker 1: and make a tough decision. So every team we're on
- 26:53Speaker 1: the league, and obviously it's it's much greater for Buffalo
- 26:57Speaker 1: into a lesser extent Cincinnati, but the other thirty team
- 27:00Speaker 1: are all devastated too, Right, So if the Patriots aren't
- 27:03Speaker 1: able to focus quote unquote and be ready to play
- 27:07Speaker 1: emotionally and physically, is that like a failure by Bill
- 27:10Speaker 1: Belichick to not get the team ready. I don't know
- 27:13Speaker 1: if it's a failure, but it's not a failure, but
- 27:15Speaker 1: that that's Build's a smart guy and he's dealt with.
- 27:19Speaker 1: But if they are focused, then I think isn't that
- 27:24Speaker 1: I think. Isn't that a success? I don't. I actually
- 27:27Speaker 1: don't think this has a lot to do with the coaches.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I think I think they're gonna be thirty two coaches
- 27:30Speaker 1: that have a very similar message this week, and it's
- 27:33Speaker 1: going to be probably a lot of different reactions from
- 27:36Speaker 1: the players as to how they respond to that. I
- 27:39Speaker 1: know everyone's different, but I think leadership is going to
- 27:42Speaker 1: be critical this weekend on every team. Yeah, players, players
- 27:47Speaker 1: and coaches both. Oh. I just like, unless you're telling
- 27:51Speaker 1: me that there's a guy who's coaching who's gonna say,
- 27:53Speaker 1: don't worry about it. If you don't want to play,
- 27:55Speaker 1: just don't don't don't worry about it. We're not going
- 27:57Speaker 1: to play. Like. I think every coach, if they play,
- 28:00Speaker 1: is going to get their team ready to play, and
- 28:02Speaker 1: then it's up to the individual players and the leaders
- 28:05Speaker 1: among those players, like Diggs was doing on on Monday night,
- 28:10Speaker 1: to be ready to play. It's not easy. It's not
- 28:13Speaker 1: like I understand what cousin Patty is saying. It's not
- 28:17Speaker 1: an easy thing to do, and I'm going to risk
- 28:22Speaker 1: We talked a lot about this before the show, and
- 28:23Speaker 1: we all said we probably wouldn't say these kinds of things.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Our risk coming off is insensitive. It's their job. Yeah,
- 28:32Speaker 1: and if and if they don't like, I truly respect it.
- 28:36Speaker 1: If you don't want to play, and you have the
- 28:38Speaker 1: sort of um, the willingness to say I can't, I
- 28:44Speaker 1: can't play, then you also have to be willing to
- 28:46Speaker 1: say okay, then I might have to release you. I
- 28:49Speaker 1: might have to get somebody else who can play. Like
- 28:51Speaker 1: it's a it's a cold business. If it happened here
- 28:54Speaker 1: in our line of in anybody's line of work, we'd
- 28:57Speaker 1: be expected to play. We'd be expected to work work,
- 29:01Speaker 1: you know, the next day. It's it's awful, I understand it.
- 29:05Speaker 1: And it's a cold business. Fred, you brought up the
- 29:07Speaker 1: greatest example to me, a civil service. Yeah. These guys
- 29:11Speaker 1: that that risk their lives every day on the fire
- 29:14Speaker 1: and police force, and they watch their co workers go
- 29:18Speaker 1: down in the line of duty all the time. And yeah,
- 29:21Speaker 1: they have time off, but they're expected to ken. You Like,
- 29:25Speaker 1: the force itself doesn't take the next day off. Maybe
- 29:27Speaker 1: the guy's partner takes the next day off. But I mean,
- 29:31Speaker 1: like someone has to protect the next day too, right right,
- 29:35Speaker 1: Society depends on them now, I know this is this
- 29:38Speaker 1: is football. I get it's not It's not that it's
- 29:41Speaker 1: not that important in the brand scheme of things. I
- 29:43Speaker 1: just feel like if the NFL makes the decision to
- 29:48Speaker 1: proceed as you know, as expected on Week eighteen, I
- 29:52Speaker 1: think all thirty two coaches will have a very similar message.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And now it's up to the individual players to either
- 29:58Speaker 1: follow that match. But you could say it's a good
- 29:59Speaker 1: sign the leadership if the players are all on board,
- 30:02Speaker 1: and maybe it's a sign that that locked. You know,
- 30:05Speaker 1: they don't have the coaches. The coach doesn't have the
- 30:08Speaker 1: locker room and he wasn't able to do it. But
- 30:10Speaker 1: I think they're gonna say the same things. Yeah, do
- 30:13Speaker 1: you know what I mean? In other words, when the
- 30:16Speaker 1: Denver Broncos didn't show up on Christmas Day, it wasn't
- 30:19Speaker 1: because Nathaniel Hackett said, don't worry about it, it's Christmas Day.
- 30:24Speaker 1: That he didn't have the locker room and they weren't
- 30:26Speaker 1: playing hard for him. But we're looking at Mike Tomlin
- 30:28Speaker 1: right now, like I can't think of a guy I
- 30:31Speaker 1: would want Mike whose hands I would write my team
- 30:35Speaker 1: to be in. Then I agree. I thought he was
- 30:37Speaker 1: incredibly impressive. Now let's just take it. But let's just
- 30:40Speaker 1: play it out. They played Cleveland this weekend, and maybe
- 30:44Speaker 1: they have a handful of guys that listen to everything
- 30:47Speaker 1: he said and Jess couldn't muster it up. Yeah is
- 30:50Speaker 1: that because he's not a good leader? No, it wasn't. No, No,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I get it. That's all I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, because
- 30:56Speaker 1: I think it can go either way. Yeah, these kinds
- 30:58Speaker 1: of things. I know a lot of people paid its fans.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I've heard this a lot, like they got no shot now, huh,
- 31:03Speaker 1: they got no shot. That's gonna be walking into a
- 31:05Speaker 1: like a buzz a buzz song that the emotion the crowd. Yeah,
- 31:10Speaker 1: that lasts for about five minutes. Yeah, Like now how
- 31:12Speaker 1: do the players respond? Are they ready and they emotionally
- 31:15Speaker 1: invested in the game, because I think there's a good
- 31:17Speaker 1: chance that they're not. And I think if maybe if
- 31:20Speaker 1: you had a five percent chance to win the game,
- 31:22Speaker 1: it might be ten. Now. Yeah, I just think that
- 31:25Speaker 1: the timing of the year too, just adds a whole
- 31:27Speaker 1: other layer to it with the playoffs, and I mean
- 31:28Speaker 1: these are you know, like this is what they play for.
- 31:30Speaker 1: These are the games like had this happened in September.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I don't think I played this weekend coach week six.
- 31:36Speaker 1: You know, we're getting to the point now where it's
- 31:38Speaker 1: a playoff games. You know that the conflict and the
- 31:41Speaker 1: fact that they're gearing up for the playoffs, to me,
- 31:44Speaker 1: would probably lead me to believe that Buffalo will find
- 31:46Speaker 1: a way to get ready to play. Yeah, but I
- 31:48Speaker 1: don't think it's a guarantee. Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred? Hey,
- 31:53Speaker 1: that's how y'all doing today? I would blow the horns.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I'm in a residential area, Okay, appreciate that scare or
- 32:00Speaker 1: anybody a horn when the pizza comes, just fart. Okay,
- 32:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna do that. Paul, I missed the good ole
- 32:10Speaker 1: days with me and youth where we used to argue
- 32:13Speaker 1: so much and we just go at it. But now
- 32:15Speaker 1: we're signing stuff, agreeing all the time. And I loved
- 32:19Speaker 1: that argument with you and Evan yesterday, and I agree
- 32:22Speaker 1: with you one hundred percent. With Matt, it's not the duchess,
- 32:27Speaker 1: it's not none of that. That's just part of it.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Like you said, they're just that's some of it. But
- 32:31Speaker 1: it may thing like if he was. If he was,
- 32:33Speaker 1: if he was putting up points, no one would care correct,
- 32:36Speaker 1: And that was the only point I was trying to make. Yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 1: exactly exactly. He's not putting up point. And I'm looking
- 32:42Speaker 1: at at the game like everybody else, I ain't got
- 32:44Speaker 1: all twenty two or like Evan does. But I see receivers.
- 32:49Speaker 1: He missed some running wide over throw to this guys
- 32:51Speaker 1: ain't devil cup and that's you know, I'm like, oh, well,
- 32:55Speaker 1: unless he's scared the line or he don't interest in
- 32:58Speaker 1: this offense. He I mean, look at I mean, look
- 33:02Speaker 1: at the bar. What did he have two hundred and
- 33:04Speaker 1: two yards passing in the last game. I think it
- 33:07Speaker 1: was a little more than that. Was it two forty?
- 33:10Speaker 1: But in today's NFL that's two two three. That's low.
- 33:17Speaker 1: That's like really not good in the today's NFL. And
- 33:20Speaker 1: we're saying, well, you know, he had a pretty good game.
- 33:23Speaker 1: But this is my point, you know, and and and
- 33:25Speaker 1: that's why see people that are saying that he didn't
- 33:28Speaker 1: play well. The other side is is is talking like
- 33:33Speaker 1: you just don't like him, You just don't know, you
- 33:36Speaker 1: know what. I don't like him. I don't like that
- 33:38Speaker 1: we celebrated the fact that we went two for two
- 33:40Speaker 1: in the red zone. Yeah, two two trips in the
- 33:44Speaker 1: red zone, and we're celebrating because normally we go one
- 33:48Speaker 1: for two or over two, right, right, right, how about
- 33:52Speaker 1: going three for six in the red zone. That's a
- 33:54Speaker 1: good day. Yeah right, you know maybe, but can that y'all?
- 34:01Speaker 1: One more question though? What if uh? And and I
- 34:05Speaker 1: get this every day when I come to work, because
- 34:07Speaker 1: like I said, I got a lot of page tators
- 34:08Speaker 1: because I was the biggest bandwagon. How can the most crap?
- 34:13Speaker 1: They're thinking that, what is Bill just running back the
- 34:15Speaker 1: same way and mister Kraft, don't do that and get
- 34:18Speaker 1: the same same result what you're doing in how would
- 34:21Speaker 1: you feel in bad bad no office coordinator? Right if
- 34:25Speaker 1: they ran it back? If they ran it back, no,
- 34:29Speaker 1: so like they just Bill says, no, no, no, we're
- 34:32Speaker 1: gonna stick with the status quo, and it's the same
- 34:34Speaker 1: next year. I think I think the house gets cleaned. Yeah,
- 34:39Speaker 1: because the only way that that would happen is if
- 34:41Speaker 1: Bill convinced Robert Kraft that this is gonna work, and
- 34:45Speaker 1: Roberts says, okay, but that's it. And then Paul's right,
- 34:50Speaker 1: if it doesn't work then that. I don't think anyone
- 34:52Speaker 1: wants to see it come down to that. No, no, no,
- 34:54Speaker 1: this this, it's gonna have to be changes, and I like,
- 34:58Speaker 1: I think Bill understands that, and I think we've heard,
- 35:01Speaker 1: we've heard little hints. I think he does too, We've
- 35:03Speaker 1: heard little hints over the last month or so that
- 35:06Speaker 1: he knows. I think too. Though his I don't want
- 35:09Speaker 1: to say his hand is going to be forced, but
- 35:10Speaker 1: just by the personnel that he has to deal with
- 35:12Speaker 1: with his tack he needs to tackle. He's got a
- 35:14Speaker 1: tackle leaven. He needs some wide receiver help. They need
- 35:17Speaker 1: to be better a wide receiver. They got a bunch
- 35:18Speaker 1: of free agents a wide receivers. So you know, in
- 35:20Speaker 1: some ways, I think just by standard personnel decisions, they're
- 35:24Speaker 1: going to have to make changes to the offense at
- 35:25Speaker 1: significant places where they kind of need it. So, but
- 35:28Speaker 1: I mean, I agree with what you guys said about
- 35:30Speaker 1: the coaching. I mean that's you know, the shadow over
- 35:32Speaker 1: everything right now, and you just hope they put the
- 35:34Speaker 1: coaching in place and then go get those players to
- 35:36Speaker 1: tackle in a receiver they can fit into this new system.
- 35:39Speaker 1: So let's put a spin on it. Though, because you know,
- 35:42Speaker 1: can we move around? Can we move on and have
- 35:44Speaker 1: fun with my move around the space pot it's my
- 35:46Speaker 1: nonsensical hypotheticals. Okay, So they do make a change because
- 35:52Speaker 1: I agree with Fred. I think there have been some
- 35:54Speaker 1: breadcrumbs that would lead you know, there's been the last week,
- 35:57Speaker 1: there was a lot of Bill O'Brien talk, right, you
- 35:59Speaker 1: can wrap up port resurfaced that story from Burt Breer,
- 36:03Speaker 1: a lot of Bill O'Brien talk, a lot of smoke.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I think there's going to be changes, right, But let's
- 36:09Speaker 1: say Bill O'Brien comes in, he's the offensive coordinator and
- 36:14Speaker 1: Mac looks very similar. Now what do you do now?
- 36:19Speaker 1: You have to look for a quarterback? You think about it, Yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 1: you're certainly aware of it. In that fourth year draft
- 36:25Speaker 1: whatever that would be twenty twenty four, I mean, I don't.
- 36:27Speaker 1: I mean I think that the big question is just
- 36:29Speaker 1: the option, the fifth year option. You know, does you
- 36:31Speaker 1: don't pick that up? If he has if he has
- 36:33Speaker 1: a year come, if he wots at eleven touchdowns, eight picks,
- 36:36Speaker 1: is that what he's got right now? Yeah? Something about that? Yeah,
- 36:38Speaker 1: if he comes, if he does that again, you know
- 36:41Speaker 1: he's throwing for three thousand yards and he's on pace
- 36:43Speaker 1: to throw for less than three thousand yards. Do you
- 36:45Speaker 1: know how hard that is to do? Like? And I
- 36:47Speaker 1: know he missed a couple of games, but that's in
- 36:49Speaker 1: this day and age, you should be over five thousand. Yeah,
- 36:53Speaker 1: and he's not even he's not. He's not even at
- 36:55Speaker 1: three thousand yet, right, So I think you'd have to
- 36:59Speaker 1: You wouldn't pick up the the fifty year option. He'd
- 37:01Speaker 1: probably be a quarterback entering his fourth season, because I
- 37:04Speaker 1: don't know how you get an option, you know, an alternative?
- 37:08Speaker 1: I mean, is Zappi a legitimate consideration? Is that something
- 37:11Speaker 1: that's waiting in the wings next year? Perfectly he's not
- 37:14Speaker 1: really playing for his job, but hey, Zappie looked really
- 37:16Speaker 1: good in camp this summer when he got in, pulls
- 37:18Speaker 1: up Brady. All of a sudden, you're you're watching Zappi
- 37:20Speaker 1: and training again. I did say he was Brady, so
- 37:24Speaker 1: don't shake your head at me. I was kind of
- 37:28Speaker 1: a Paul thing where somebody like mentions two guys in
- 37:30Speaker 1: the same breath, and he's better. I went all cousin Finney,
- 37:34Speaker 1: don't shake your head at me. I didn't say that
- 37:35Speaker 1: I didn't hit what I said yet. No, remember when
- 37:39Speaker 1: Brady came back in year two and Bill was like
- 37:44Speaker 1: blown away by how much better he wasn't practice. Yeah,
- 37:47Speaker 1: I'm not talking about he's going to be Tom Brady.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I'm talking about his year one to year two jump
- 37:51Speaker 1: on the practice field was apparent to everybody, and your
- 37:55Speaker 1: quarterback struggled in year three. Maybe there is a little
- 37:58Speaker 1: bit more. I mean, maybe it's my bias that I
- 38:01Speaker 1: don't think much of Bailey's. I don't really either, but
- 38:04Speaker 1: I mean I am intrigued just to watch him because
- 38:06Speaker 1: we've talked so much about him after those performances, and
- 38:09Speaker 1: there's so much like was it that simplified offense? But
- 38:12Speaker 1: I mean, I just and I've said this a couple
- 38:14Speaker 1: of times, and I agree with you know, Mac is
- 38:16Speaker 1: the guy and there's no Zappy, But I just I
- 38:19Speaker 1: can't deny that when Dappy played, it looked the most
- 38:21Speaker 1: functional the offenses look this year. And I don't know
- 38:23Speaker 1: if that's because of who he was playing against the
- 38:25Speaker 1: second and how they simplified it. Sure, but I think
- 38:27Speaker 1: he glimpses. I think if you looked at it, it
- 38:30Speaker 1: really only looked better once Cleveland, Cleveland. It was very
- 38:33Speaker 1: similar in Green Bay and um well he Troy was
- 38:39Speaker 1: the over six fourth pound game and they kicked field
- 38:42Speaker 1: goal after field goal after field goal, like they didn't
- 38:45Speaker 1: score in that game, and they didn't move the ball. Well.
- 38:47Speaker 1: The two drives against Chicago and the first half looked short,
- 38:50Speaker 1: short drives, short drives, and everyone freaked out. And then
- 38:53Speaker 1: the second half Chicago said we're not going to let
- 38:55Speaker 1: this cat. Now the Cleveland game, Mac hasn't had a
- 38:58Speaker 1: game like Zappy did in Cleveland. Yeah, that's the best
- 39:01Speaker 1: the offense has looked was the Zappie game in Cleveland. Yeah,
- 39:04Speaker 1: And I don't know why that is. I mean, the
- 39:07Speaker 1: MACA files will tell you that they were calling all
- 39:09Speaker 1: kinds of different plays and they will put them in
- 39:11Speaker 1: all kinds of positions to succeed. And they decided to
- 39:14Speaker 1: have creativity that day and the other sixteen games, well
- 39:18Speaker 1: fifteen because we didn't play the sixteenth yet they just
- 39:21Speaker 1: sabotage Mac like Dmember when that was a thing. Yeah, Like,
- 39:25Speaker 1: I don't know why they won't play action play Action
- 39:28Speaker 1: the other day and he gets killed by Land and Roberts.
- 39:29Speaker 1: I know, right, it's just like no matter what they've
- 39:31Speaker 1: kind of done, and I think they had little twists
- 39:33Speaker 1: and stuff for certain game plans. It's Max has been
- 39:36Speaker 1: consistently inconsistent all year. And you know, Evan talks about,
- 39:39Speaker 1: you know, the big time throws which are like twenty one,
- 39:42Speaker 1: like great twenty one throws a year. How much does
- 39:44Speaker 1: that impact the game season he makes those throws, but
- 39:49Speaker 1: I don't even like, I don't know what a big
- 39:51Speaker 1: time throw is. I don't know what their criteria is.
- 39:52Speaker 1: But I heard him like rattling off the throws in
- 39:54Speaker 1: the previous game, like the touchdown throw to Kendrick Bourne
- 39:58Speaker 1: is a big time throw, Like, I don't know about
- 40:02Speaker 1: that one. He rated left like four different throws to board, Yeah,
- 40:05Speaker 1: you know, one of which was an amazing catch by
- 40:07Speaker 1: Born by the way on the sideline. I'm just not
- 40:10Speaker 1: I'm just not enamored of two plays a game that
- 40:14Speaker 1: you hit. But you just need consistency from the guy.
- 40:19Speaker 1: And look, I'm I'm on both sides of the fence
- 40:22Speaker 1: with this one. Like I don't really like his comportment
- 40:24Speaker 1: and I just think he's been an average quarterback that's
- 40:26Speaker 1: lost to every good defense that he's played so far,
- 40:28Speaker 1: and he just has. I know, but because because if
- 40:31Speaker 1: you can find the time that I said he sucks,
- 40:34Speaker 1: then go ahead, like run it all you want. I've
- 40:38Speaker 1: I've not said that. He didn't say it last year,
- 40:40Speaker 1: and I don't say it this year. I just think
- 40:42Speaker 1: he's average. I think he's okay. I don't think he'll
- 40:45Speaker 1: ever be. Where I differ from a lot of other
- 40:47Speaker 1: people is I don't think he'll ever be more than that.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Some people see something that I don't see in terms
- 40:53Speaker 1: of potential. Yeah, I mean, but I've never said he
- 40:56Speaker 1: sucks because he doesn't suck. He's not Zach Wick he sucks.
- 40:59Speaker 1: I don't think he sucks. No, I just I just looks.
- 41:02Speaker 1: He was an average quarterback last year, and you know,
- 41:04Speaker 1: I thought this year we would at least get back
- 41:06Speaker 1: to that point, and they they haven't been able to
- 41:08Speaker 1: And to go back to the point Amy yesterday, It's like,
- 41:10Speaker 1: no matter how bad an offensive coordinator or your weapons are,
- 41:14Speaker 1: good quarterbacks still find ways to make some plays to
- 41:17Speaker 1: show you that it's waiting under the surface if you
- 41:19Speaker 1: could tap it. And I don't really feel like that
- 41:21Speaker 1: with him. Take an average Take an average quarterback, because
- 41:25Speaker 1: it's not fair to say, like, how do you think
- 41:27Speaker 1: Josh Allen Patrick Mahomes would look like? Yeah, they would
- 41:29Speaker 1: look like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. I get it.
- 41:31Speaker 1: That's because of them, Yeah, like by Dalton back in
- 41:34Speaker 1: the day. But I think a lot of those guys
- 41:35Speaker 1: would look better in this offer. I mean, you could
- 41:38Speaker 1: make an argument and people have that Zappie looked better
- 41:41Speaker 1: in it. So I just I just think that it's
- 41:46Speaker 1: a big part of his problem is what he the
- 41:49Speaker 1: hand that he was dealta is Yeah, and I'm not
- 41:51Speaker 1: denying it. Yeah, now what are you gonna do about it?
- 41:54Speaker 1: You're gonna you started pouting in June and you never stopped. Yeah,
- 41:58Speaker 1: you never gave it a chance. Brian Island says a
- 42:01Speaker 1: simple question, assuming the same contract status, who would you
- 42:04Speaker 1: take as the Patriots quarterback today, Mac Jones or Brock Purdy.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I'd take Mac Jones. I'd still take Mac Jones. I
- 42:14Speaker 1: would probably say Mac Jones. I don't I'm not in
- 42:18Speaker 1: love with Brock Purty. Um. But but again it's don't
- 42:23Speaker 1: take all of a team with a good offensive coordinator
- 42:25Speaker 1: and good like a system. They know who they are.
- 42:26Speaker 1: They just kind of plug him in. I mean, Mac
- 42:28Speaker 1: is kind of now in a system that doesn't really
- 42:30Speaker 1: know who they are. I've never figured out who they are,
- 42:33Speaker 1: and that's you know, plug Mac into San Francisco. Do
- 42:37Speaker 1: you think he'd be better than Purty? I mean probably, Yeah.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I don't. I do. I don't, I do. I'm the
- 42:44Speaker 1: same guy. Yeah, see, I don't. Purdy's only six wide.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Just looking up his size, I think some of some
- 42:52Speaker 1: of my problems with Mac would be problems. I would
- 42:54Speaker 1: have the same kind of issues with Purdy. And again,
- 42:58Speaker 1: if my defense dominates and I can get the ball
- 43:01Speaker 1: to my running backs and do it like the way
- 43:03Speaker 1: Purdy has, that'll be fine. I think Mac Jones is
- 43:05Speaker 1: better than Brock Purdy. Anthony Right said, do you think
- 43:10Speaker 1: players would or will react differently if the heart issue
- 43:14Speaker 1: Hamlin suffered is discovered to be some sort of degenerative
- 43:17Speaker 1: heart issue or a genetic heart defect then and they
- 43:21Speaker 1: found out it was not in fact due to the
- 43:23Speaker 1: impact during the tackle. So, in other words, is it
- 43:25Speaker 1: easier for players to move on and play if it
- 43:28Speaker 1: was not due to a hit on a tackle? I
- 43:30Speaker 1: think for sure. I mean, I think that's what's so
- 43:32Speaker 1: scary about this one is I mean, I think Ted
- 43:34Speaker 1: Johnson talked a little bit about this. If you know,
- 43:36Speaker 1: you're aware of some of like, oh, concussions and you know,
- 43:39Speaker 1: I could blow my knee out, but I don't. I
- 43:41Speaker 1: don't think it really ever consistently registers with people playing
- 43:45Speaker 1: of I can just take an ill timed hit and
- 43:47Speaker 1: the right place at the right time, and its lights out. Like,
- 43:50Speaker 1: I don't think that that really is something that's really
- 43:53Speaker 1: been at the forefront of anybody's brain ever. And so
- 43:55Speaker 1: I think to that point, yeah, you know, like with
- 43:57Speaker 1: Reggie Lewis thing you oh, well he's got you know,
- 43:59Speaker 1: a heart condition and that's you know, so now it's
- 44:01Speaker 1: all right, it's not just this random thing that can
- 44:03Speaker 1: happen to anybody if if, if all the things line
- 44:05Speaker 1: up at the right time. So that's an interesting email.
- 44:07Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't really have much confidence at this point.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Here's so many And Mike happened to my kid. You know,
- 44:12Speaker 1: they find a hole in the heart, they should look
- 44:15Speaker 1: for that early, Like, let's do a test for kids
- 44:21Speaker 1: to find make sure that they don't have a hole
- 44:23Speaker 1: in their heart early. You know, I have a big
- 44:25Speaker 1: deal hole in the heart, all right, Um, guess what
- 44:30Speaker 1: Evan's here? This is interesting. Done all right, Evan, what
- 44:46Speaker 1: do you got? I don't know how many more of
- 44:48Speaker 1: these we got, So I'm gonna I'm gonna relish in this. Okay,
- 44:52Speaker 1: So some good news, some bad news out at Patriots practice.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Big vibe day, though, friends, So we'll get to that,
- 44:59Speaker 1: and it's like big vibe, Big Vibe day. No Marcus Jones,
- 45:04Speaker 1: no John U Smith. They're still in concussion protocol, not
- 45:06Speaker 1: at Patriots practice on Wednesday, but DeVante Parker back at
- 45:12Speaker 1: Patriots practice, and Jalen Mills was also out there today
- 45:16Speaker 1: dealing with that growing injury. But yeah, no, no Marcus
- 45:19Speaker 1: and no John Us still and just reminder, Jack Jones
- 45:22Speaker 1: is on I arm. Jack Jones is on injured reserve. Correct. Um,
- 45:26Speaker 1: Jake Bailey not there? Not there, Okay, not there, Okay
- 45:30Speaker 1: at least what we saw. Listen. You know, sometimes a
- 45:32Speaker 1: specialist during the stadium, sometimes they're on the upper field
- 45:35Speaker 1: when we're on the lower field, and we try our
- 45:37Speaker 1: best to use the binoculars to see who's up there,
- 45:40Speaker 1: but not always able to do that. You know, us
- 45:43Speaker 1: there last week, wasn't he though? Yes? Yeah, Um, so
- 45:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna you teased it? What do you mean by vibe? Well,
- 45:51Speaker 1: I thought, today this is our only exposure to the
- 45:53Speaker 1: players today because we don't have media availability. So I
- 45:57Speaker 1: did want to see what the mood was that practice.
- 46:00Speaker 1: And we got through the doors there they where they
- 46:04Speaker 1: let you in on the lower grass field, and we
- 46:06Speaker 1: were all, you know, waddling in there, and uh, Carl
- 46:09Speaker 1: Davis looked at all of us and said, come on, guys,
- 46:12Speaker 1: it's Buffalo week. Oh wow. And I was like, all right, well,
- 46:16Speaker 1: somebody's fired up to play a football game, I guess.
- 46:19Speaker 1: So I do think that there was, um a workman
- 46:22Speaker 1: like attitude for the most part. Not everybody was as
- 46:25Speaker 1: fired up as Big Carl. But I did find that
- 46:27Speaker 1: a little bit interesting that I do too. Someone's ready
- 46:31Speaker 1: to play a game. And I know that right now
- 46:33Speaker 1: games seem secondary to what's going on in Buffalo, but
- 46:36Speaker 1: at the same time that that's where we're at. It's
- 46:38Speaker 1: a great point because it's I mean, all of the
- 46:40Speaker 1: things aside. It's a playoff game for you know, for
- 46:42Speaker 1: all intents and purposes, and if and if if, if,
- 46:45Speaker 1: if this tragedy didn't happen to themar Hamlin, I mean,
- 46:48Speaker 1: you'd expect to go out there and it's super intense
- 46:50Speaker 1: and everybody's locked in, and that like all of a sudden,
- 46:52Speaker 1: the tension rises around here that all the players talk about. Um,
- 46:55Speaker 1: it's just it's interesting to me to hear that, you know,
- 46:58Speaker 1: I mean, to your point, Fred, with the coaching, like
- 47:00Speaker 1: you know, is Bill able to you know, help them
- 47:03Speaker 1: get to the point where not only can you play
- 47:05Speaker 1: the game, but take this as a must win. The
- 47:08Speaker 1: whole season's on the line. Play. We have to go
- 47:10Speaker 1: beat this team, Like you said, lock in. Yeah, yeah,
- 47:13Speaker 1: it's tough, but I mean, I mean, I'm I'm I don't.
- 47:16Speaker 1: I don't want to say encouraged, because it's like, where
- 47:18Speaker 1: are we at right now? But what's the mood of
- 47:20Speaker 1: the media indecisive? Right? I think all of us and
- 47:27Speaker 1: I don't want to make us the story because we
- 47:30Speaker 1: are certainly not the story right now. You wouldn't know
- 47:32Speaker 1: it looking at Twitter. But go ahead, I all of us,
- 47:37Speaker 1: you know, Fred and I got to get on a
- 47:39Speaker 1: plane at some point to go to this game, and
- 47:41Speaker 1: it's like when are we going? Right? Are we going?
- 47:43Speaker 1: When are we going? I still think that there's a
- 47:45Speaker 1: lot to be decided there still. I know that the
- 47:49Speaker 1: commissioner said yesterday that the week eighteen schedule is going
- 47:53Speaker 1: on as scheduled, But did he tell the people in
- 47:56Speaker 1: Orchard Park that, Because I'm not getting that vibe from
- 47:58Speaker 1: Buffalo right now. So unless, in my opinion, unless DeMar
- 48:03Speaker 1: Hamlin has a really encouraging news come out of that
- 48:07Speaker 1: hospital in Cincinnati, I think it's going to be really
- 48:10Speaker 1: difficult to ask the Bills to play this game on Sunday,
- 48:13Speaker 1: And do they want to play this game on Sunday,
- 48:15Speaker 1: and you know all the other human factors that are
- 48:18Speaker 1: involved in something like this. Do you have any take
- 48:20Speaker 1: on the Patriots canceling their media availability today. I was
- 48:26Speaker 1: listening to the beginning of the show upstairs, and I thought,
- 48:28Speaker 1: I think it was you that said it. They want
- 48:31Speaker 1: Buffalo to speak first. Yeah, and I think that that's
- 48:33Speaker 1: more than fair given the circumstances. And when they scheduled
- 48:37Speaker 1: media availability this morning, the guy's going to the podium
- 48:40Speaker 1: or the captain, So it was Matthew Slayter, Devin mccordy,
- 48:43Speaker 1: David Andrews. So they were already preparing to kind of
- 48:48Speaker 1: come out with that sort of leadership front Anyways, Bill
- 48:51Speaker 1: this morning, Captain's at the podium. I was actually expecting
- 48:55Speaker 1: them to not open locker room, but I guess because
- 48:57Speaker 1: of league rules they have to open locker room for availability,
- 49:01Speaker 1: but now obviously postponed, and I guess the league signed
- 49:04Speaker 1: off on that. So I'm not surprised that they're doing
- 49:07Speaker 1: this because I don't think the Patriots want to be
- 49:10Speaker 1: the first ones to speak on what's going on with
- 49:13Speaker 1: the mar Hamlet. That's sort of the buildings or the
- 49:15Speaker 1: game on Sunday. Right, all right, we'll take a break.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Paul's eating and when we come back, more calls and

- 56:43Speaker 1: We'll go to We'll go down to Texas, Jose and Houston.
- 56:46Speaker 1: What's up, Joe, Hey, fellas, we're talking about the rock party,
- 56:51Speaker 1: Mac Jones, forty nine Ers, comparisons and such. I just
- 56:55Speaker 1: wanted to know you guys's opinion if, way back in
- 56:57Speaker 1: the day, instead of Mac Jones, we drafted Trey Lance
- 57:01Speaker 1: and the forty nine ers got Mac Jones, how that
- 57:04Speaker 1: might be different. I was just thinking about that hypothetical
- 57:06Speaker 1: and how that might change the offense. Yeah, how do
- 57:10Speaker 1: we know? I don't know. I have no idea what
- 57:12Speaker 1: Trey Lance right San Francisco doesn't know. Yeah, I did
- 57:17Speaker 1: like him, by Lance guy, not as much as Justin Fields.
- 57:21Speaker 1: Justin Fields was the guy I really wanted. But again,
- 57:24Speaker 1: I go back to when people talk about Lamar coming
- 57:27Speaker 1: here potentially in free agency. Don't trust him. Don't trust
- 57:30Speaker 1: them at all to know how to run an offense
- 57:32Speaker 1: with a guy like that. So I just don't know
- 57:35Speaker 1: if Lance. I wrote that in the mail mail back
- 57:38Speaker 1: this week with much better terms, but much nicer terms
- 57:41Speaker 1: than that, like that's really overhaul year off and you
- 57:44Speaker 1: have to have like blocking schemes and you have to
- 57:46Speaker 1: have a lot of running back. Yeah, they'd have to
- 57:48Speaker 1: really do a lot of different things to do that.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Where do you think the forty Niners are with Lance
- 57:52Speaker 1: right now? I mean it's it's I mean he had
- 57:54Speaker 1: like got hurt his what barely played in COVID. I
- 57:57Speaker 1: mean it barely played coming in, didn't play his rookie year.
- 58:00Speaker 1: How many games did he play before he got hurt
- 58:02Speaker 1: this year? Like, he just hasn't played in like four
- 58:04Speaker 1: years and you're already on year three of his contract.
- 58:07Speaker 1: It's a good point about at North Dakota stated he
- 58:09Speaker 1: didn't even play in the COVID year. I think they
- 58:11Speaker 1: had a game or something like that, and he didn't
- 58:14Speaker 1: play particularly well actually in the game. So how do
- 58:17Speaker 1: you stay the course with him? You just can't get
- 58:19Speaker 1: him on the field. It's like at some point I
- 58:22Speaker 1: want the other quarterback on the field either. Yeah, Evan,
- 58:25Speaker 1: I just want to stay you when you weren't here.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Someone brought up Brock Purtty or mac Jones, and I said,
- 58:30Speaker 1: mac Jones, yes he did. I just want my heart.
- 58:34Speaker 1: I want him to be happy with me sometimes, So
- 58:37Speaker 1: I want to make sure that I think, you know,
- 58:39Speaker 1: Rock Purtty kind of small, ye, Sean said Vancouver, Hey Sean, Hey, guys,
- 58:47Speaker 1: how's it going. I wanted to hang put one thing
- 58:52Speaker 1: in people's minds in regards to a downside of making
- 58:56Speaker 1: the playoff. Let's say everything happens in terms of well,
- 59:01Speaker 1: obviously I think they're gonna lose in Buffalo, but let's
- 59:03Speaker 1: say Pittsburgh loses the Cleveland and the Jacksonville wins in
- 59:09Speaker 1: Winter Division, and yeah, you know what I mean. So
- 59:12Speaker 1: they make the playoffs. But then is there a time
- 59:15Speaker 1: issue in terms of hiring an offensive coordinator? Do they
- 59:17Speaker 1: lose out on someone Mike O'Brien, Like, well, what could
- 59:21Speaker 1: happen in that sense? I don't think so. I think
- 59:24Speaker 1: you could hire O'Brien right now if you wanted to. Yeah,
- 59:27Speaker 1: you're talking about one more week, maybe, you know? Yeah,
- 59:30Speaker 1: I think. But I think Bill Alabama's done, Yeah, I
- 59:32Speaker 1: think yeah. I think The thing with Bill is he
- 59:34Speaker 1: wouldn't want to do it while Patricia's here, but he
- 59:37Speaker 1: could talk to it. He could actually have it all.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Remember that he brought guys back and he was just
- 59:44Speaker 1: kind of a supplement for the staff. But I think
- 59:46Speaker 1: he could also, like, even if he didn't want to
- 59:48Speaker 1: do that, just say, hey, Evan, you know when you're done. Yeah,
- 59:51Speaker 1: And theoretically you don't think they were waiting for Yeah,
- 59:54Speaker 1: they were just waiting for the Sugar Bowl. But even
- 59:57Speaker 1: not the Sugar Bowl. What were they in the Cotton
- 59:59Speaker 1: Bowl the Sugar Bowl? You know, but even then you
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: could still Yeah, his agent talks to you know, you
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: can get it done. I don't think they're gonna miss out,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: so for all we know, it's already in place. I
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: think it's hard for teams that like maybe go to
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: like deep in the playoffs and then lose a coordinator
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: and don't realize they're gonna And then by the time
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: they even realize they're losing that coordinator, it's like a
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: week after the Super Bowl, and then a lot of
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: the conversations have kind of we've been through that. I mean,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: you know, you win those Super bowls, man behind the
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: eight ball when it comes to that type of stuff. Yeah,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I think that when you lose coaches, generally you know
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: you're gonna lose a coach. I mean, it's I'm not
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: telling you it never happens that it comes out of nowhere,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: because it does. But I mean, certainly the Patriots could
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: not have been thrown for a loop when Josh McDaniels
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: took the raider's job last year. Right, No, No, So,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: whether you're in the Super Bowl or not, like you
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: need to like be talking to people. And it feels
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: like a groundsfol right now for Mayo, Like everything that
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: I read about is and Mayo could possibly, Like everybody
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: seems to keep bringing up that Mayo could leave this year,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: So that just that seems to one to me signs
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: or at least what people are writing seemed like they
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: think he's gonna make Sean Brian writes in rightfully, this
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: has not got as much traction due to Hamlin's issue.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: And I know Paul commented yesterday, but why has the
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Week eighteen scheduling not been raised more as an integrity concern?
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: How can they not schedule games that playoff implications, that
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: have playoff implications at the same time they did a
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: bad job. Yeah, this is they usually go to like
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: great lengths to make sure there were no integrity issues.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: In this year, it seems like they weren't even paying attention. Yeah,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: says this is a major red flag for integrity and
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: having meaningless games, especially with gambling becoming more commonplace. Well,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I don't care about the gambling. I care about who
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: makes the playos where set right. I find it interesting
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: like if Kansas City takes care of business against the Raiders,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: which I think they will on Saturday, and then the
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Bills are still in this weird headspace with Damar Hamlin
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: and that like that game all of a sudden, how
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: much does it really mean to Buffalo right on Sunday.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: It's just that's the thing about right, It's just kind
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: of hard for me to envision them getting up for
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: this game if that situation unfolds the I don't think
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: they can wait till Saturday night's result though, to be like,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: actually tomorrow, you guys, we're not playing like you know
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: what I mean, Like, I think they got to figure
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: it out pretty quick. No, I mean I think that
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: the uncertainty with the Cincinnati game, I think is more
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: like what would talk like because if they play, Buffalo
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: controls if they play, If they play the two games,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: all Buffaloes do is win, So that's different. But if
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: they're not going to play that game, and they know
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: they're not going to play it, then they can't get
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: the one seed. Yeah, you know, if Kansas City wins
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: on Saturday, Like that's dumb, then they set that up
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: that way. That was dumb. But I think more egregious
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: is what they've done to Seattle, Detroit and green Bay
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: because they're playing now on Sunday night. If Seattle wins,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: that's how they make the Seattle needs to win to
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: have a chance to make the playoffs. If Seattle wins,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: they need Detroit to make to beat green Bay. So
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: if Seattle wins before Detroit even takes the field, they're eliminated.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: So they've they've made that game irrelevant for the Lions,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: and Seattle needs Detroit to win the game like it's
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: they should have had something to play for because if
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: they played Saturday night, Detroit's playing as hard as they
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: can and if they win, Seattle's got a shot, right right,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: And you guys said yesterday Titans Jags should be Sunday night,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: right because that game, no matter what happens, the winner
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: wins the the AFC South. Now I know the loser,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: if it's Jacksonville can still make the playoffs. But both
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: sides are going to play to win to get a
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: home game, right Yeah. And it's not a guarantee that
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: if the Jaguars lose that they make the playoffs, so
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: they can't bank on that necessary right And it's not
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: like my point being like, let's just say, for argument's sake,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: the Patriots, the Dolphins, and the Steelers all lost and
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: now it's Sunday night. The NFL didn't look at it
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: and say, well, we didn't want to have Jacksonville win
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: lose they were in the playoffs, right because they still
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: would play as hard as they could, because there's a
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: huge difference between the four seed and the seventh seed,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: right right, yep uh. Kelly and salt Lake. Listening to
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: the free safety replacement conversation yesterday, the player I thought
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: of was John Jones. He had the positionless tweet earlier
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: this year. I think he's the Patriot's best to have
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: a solid free safety without dedicating a high pick or
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: a lot of free agent money to the position. I
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: think the last part, I think he's a free agent
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: this year, but i'd imagine he'd be at a reasonable price. Well,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I think that's the thing is I mean, you're not
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: gonna take we're gonna sign you as a free safety.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: He's gonna get sand like a corner, which is gonna
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: be more money. And I mean, I don't think you
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: would you resign him at McCary, but at mcquardy money
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: he's the free safety. Yeah, Like I don't think he's
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: playing less, playing much less? No, right, No, that's you
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: know he and he actually makes more money now than
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: people think. Like he's signed. His extension that he signed
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: was a pretty good extension to play Jonathan Jones when
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: he resigned to stay in New England. It wasn't cheap. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: I have no desire to move John Jones to safety.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I think you could do it in a pinch, like,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: but I don't think he's a fall I think the
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: biggest thing is and I know that there are certain
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: guys like Antoine Winfield who does it at a smaller size,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: but when you're only five nine, you don't have the
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: length to really play that position at a high level.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Good point. And I just also don't really like the
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: idea of taking your best corner and then moving him
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: to safety at a basically necessity and then making a
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: hole at corner like you're not really changing up your
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: You're you're not making yourself better. Yeah, And I just like,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: and I don't think. I don't care like what it costs,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: but it's not a cheap alternative. Yeah, I don't. I
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: don't think it's going to be a cheap alternative. Now,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: maybe I'll be surprised. I think he's gonna get significant
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: money in free agency if it gets to that point,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: that to the point where I wouldn't totally rule out
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: a franchise tag situation with the Patriots, because I think
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: he's gonna get fourteen fifteen million a year anyways, and
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: that tag will be eighteen or something like that, and
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: then you are at least able to get him for
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: one more year and work in the rookie joneses into
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: year two and get those guys to a point in
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: year three where if he does walk, now you have
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: the rookie jones is experience and ready to go. First person.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I heard brought that up. Bring that up me too.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Franchise tag for Jonathan like possibility, Anthony, I give you credit.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Anthony says, Mike, your numbers are wrong. Mike, he says,
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: you're wrong. He says the offense scores eighteen points a game.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: You're leaving out field goals and extra points. They've had
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: thirty one field goals made, thirty extra points made, twelve
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: passing touchdowns, sixteen rushing touchdowns, which gives them eighteen points.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: I thought, I thought Mike was subtracting the points that
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: were set up by the defense. But maybe I was.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: I was, But I mean, so as he's saying, like
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: the defensive touchdown extra points because the extra points they
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: get from scoring on offense should count for the offense. Like, well,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: that's that's what I think Mike was doing. I don't
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: have the numbers, I mean, just so we would trying
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: to figure out how many real true offensive points they
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: scored this year. And I almost thought, and I guess
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: I was wrong. I always thought, like, DVOA did that.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: DVOA does do that. Yeah, yeah, they they factor in
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: defensive touchdowns. They factor in field positions. So if the
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: offense gets the ball at the two yard line because
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: the defense defensive points, to me, yeah it generates a
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: strip sack or something like that. Yeah, they will do that.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: But I mean field goals unless you're saying that they
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: started the drive in field goal range because the defense
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: put them there, which they did a number of times,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: but they stopped. In most cases, you're driving the field
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: to get into field goal range, and to me, that's
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: still offensive points. I don't know that would be offensive
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: points if they actually drove. Yeah, and how did you
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: kick a field Like if you take over in the
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: thirty five yard line and drive down to the five
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: and kick a field goal, I'll give you offensive points, right,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: I'm talking about the pick threes? Yeah, sure, taking over
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: at the seventeen kicking a field goal from the fourteen, Yeah,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: that's that's defensive points. I guess is they probably have
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: like three or four of those at least. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: oh yeah. Uh the Lions game inclusive. William Phillies back
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: on the phone. What's up, William? No, No, he's not.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: What happened? My goodness? Oh poor Williams. Did you just
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: hit drop By? I might have. I don't know. I
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: don't think I did, but I might have. It's ringing again,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: and they kept ringing the bell. I think Willa is
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: gonna left Fred here. He's gonna be mad, going to
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: give him a what for? Yeah, he's gonna let's see,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: we'll try it again. William you there, Hey, all right,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: all right, all right, um, how I was too much?
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I want to say um too to the gentleman. Um,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: I am my favorite Mayor Hamlet. I'll say that correctly
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: right tomorrow to morrow. I'm sorry to mor Hamlet. And
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: I'm speaking for everybody in Philadelphi. Man like I am.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: I'm a long time picture this fan, and I have
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: seen hits, some stuff, but nothing of that man too.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: And we you know, all the things filled up, you
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: just pull them f I mean, just everything's okay. Well,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: you know, I just wanted to through. What are you
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: cleaning the pool? What are you doing right now? Yeah?
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: What's going on? There's a lot of clean bread, you
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: know what I read. I ain't cleaning them fool bred.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: I'm wanting lunch break. And that's them cleaning the streets
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: in one night. I have to do with that, all right, Okay? UM?
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: My question is, isn't it? Isn't it crazy? Picture's gonna
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: filter house? One man? You know, he had every you know,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: he covered up all the flaws and one night and
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: then come to find out, over a course of the
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: period of time, you haven't addressed none of the issues.
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Receiver tight end uh free safety, none of this stuff.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: And now you now you find yourself. You gotta take
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: care of all these things. But you didn't do it
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: when you had the time, you know what I mean,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: when it was supposed to be addressed. You know what
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: I'm saying. Yeah, they've got a lot of holes. Yeah,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I think they've got some pieces. And last, last, last
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: question is Evan. Evan, how do you feel about two
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I guess two players basically in the draft, basically, um,
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Jordan Addison USC and also Jordy Porter from Penn State.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: And I'll leave it at dead. Joan, Okay, thanks, all right, Well,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Jordan Addison fight on. First of all, absolutely, and second
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: of all, I love the quickness with him. He's a
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: separation guy, all right, He's not. He's not one of
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: these like DeVante Parker types. He's somebody that can go
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: out there, run routes and create separation. But he's undersized.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: He's I think probably going to measure in maybe at
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: six feet if he puts a bunch of socks on
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: at the combine and one hundred and eighty pounds, right,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: So he's undersized, but he's got the quickness, he's got
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: the separation ability. I think he's a good receiver. I
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: think this draft in particular, though not as good at
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: the top of the draft at wide receiver as the
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: last couple. So I think you're looking at guys like
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Jordan Addison, probably like an end of the first round,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: second round pick last year that might end up being
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: like a top twenty, top twenty five guy this year.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Just at a necessity for teams to take receivers, so
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: that I think you need to keep in mind, um
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: a little bit that this is not a draft where
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: there's you know, Jamar Chase and DeVante Smith and Jalen
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Waddle and Ceedee Lamb and like like just receivers coming
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: out of the wazoo. Uh. This is a little bit
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: of a down year, I would say for wide receivers.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Joey Porter from Penn State. Haven't seen as much of
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: him cornerback, Um, but I know him for obvious reasons.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: You don't like Joey I like that. Yeah, Joey Porter Jr. Yeah,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: not a good related to Joey Porter Senior. I'm just kidding.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: He's a good player at Penn State, all right. A
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: lot of tackles in the Patriots spot though, feels like
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: that they're gonna be. Like so, if you're watching the
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: National Championship game on Monday night, um, I always get
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: the Ohio State tackle and the Georgia tackle. Confused. Paris
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Johnson is the Ohio State guy, so Roderick Jones is
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: the is the Georgia guy. I believe left tackle for Georgia.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: This is not Isaiah Winn. This is a six foot six,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: six foot seven behemoth tackle and he's gonna be a
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: locktop twenty pick, maybe higher if he plays well in
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: this game on Monday Night and has a good combine
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: and good pre draft circuit. So he's certainly somebody that's
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: on me and Barth Stradar for the Patriots in the
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: first round. TCU's got some guys two over there too,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: and I'm sure a lot of people will watch Quinton
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Johnson their receiver and fall in love. Even though he
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: is more of that contested catch, big body type, he's
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: a beast and he's like a man amongst boys in college.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens with him in the combine though,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: will be interested to see what he runs and if
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: he's in like the four fives, I'm gonna. It's trail
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: on Burke's for me, right, It's like no go. But
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: if he ends up running faster than that, then maybe
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: we have that conversation Russell and Ark and Sauces. I
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: have an off topic thing that Mike needs to look on.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: At Twitter, Adam Vinetarry is so jacked up right now.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: He missed Derek Henry looked like a baby bird. I know, Fred,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: you retweeted that yourself. That was I didn't even think
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: it was Adam Vinetary for a second, like, what is
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: he there's any naked men around on social media? Fred
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: finds that it was part of my first of all,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: just to I've seen Derrick Henry up close. Nobody makes
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: look small. I don't need to tell me that. Okay,
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: that's like one of the biggest going. That's like one
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: of the biggest human beings I've ever seen. So careful
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: what you say. But as far as kickers go, I've
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: never seen a kicker like him. I mean either, it's
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: like it's almost like he's in his fist career fifty
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: kick stretched and I kicked it. Yeah, No, he's he's Jack.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: My name is Sally fifty. Okay, just got the leopard
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: skin tights on. He finds here on an island with
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: funny stuff. Now there, there's thousands of people right now
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: talk about people. But no, if he haven't seen it yet,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: there's a video. I assume that's his son that he's
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: working out with. I didn't see the sun. I just
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: saw him. It's not just him. He's working out with
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: a younger guy. That's his son, who's who's a kicker too, right, Yeah,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: the college kid and his son's jacked up too. But
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Adam is huge because there was a time like late
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: he started getting a little chubby, the real guy who
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: went on steroids after his career, he started getting a
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: little chubby, and I think he just said, Okay, I'm
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: gonna stay healthy now that I'm done. And he's just
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: like jacked up. He's much bigger than he was when
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: he played. Can we just bring him home, Can we
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: like just have like a little we don't not have
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: a ceremony or just we just need to bring him
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: back into the family, into the mix. We'll forget about
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: those cold years. Water under the bridge, come back, come
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: back to us. Adam just participate in various videos and
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: things like it. Just come back and be parted part
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: of the alumni. Yeah you know, yeah, not really, it
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: doesn't I haven't seen him here since he left. He
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: was banging the drum at the Colts game, right right?
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: Was that last year? Well, we don't know what you're
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: talking about in there, but he did spend more time
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: as a cold I know. But we're gonna forget about those.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: We haven't coming here something. I don't think he's stopped
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: all forgot what the three Super Bowls that I think
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: he has forgotten that. I don't think he's that who
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: gave it. I'm glad you caught that one ball me personally, Um,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: let's see Daved Bethlehem. Sorry it happened, but the world
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: doesn't stop ever. Kids must be fed, parents must work
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: to feed them. The reflective emotional response is overdone. Okay,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: so he's he's saying that about That's what the NFL
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: is doing. Yeah about Mac. He has had about two
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: point two seconds per snap to throw the ball. Smith
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: is a poor blocker and tackle his weakest O line position.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: No wonder his yardage is down. Poor personnel choices, bad
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: coaching are primary causes of bad offense. Just this Smith.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: The thing that's funny to me is what people think
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: is like a normal amount of time to throw football,
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: like like two point two seconds. Like that's that's way
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: too fast, right, Like he's got more than two point
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: two seconds. Okay, Like I'm not saying he's got a
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: lot of time, but I feel like every time I, oh,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: he's got less than two seconds to throw the No. No,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: that's that's let's not be bad nice about it, all right,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: let's see Jack from Stowden. Uh. I've been a lifelong
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: Patriots fan since the eighties and remember when they first
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: started getting broadcasted U in eighty five during their super run.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: With that, I've seen a lot of bad teams over
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: the years and have seen the team grow into a
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: dominant force in the league. What Patriots team for the
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: past does this current team remind you of? For me,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: this reminds me of the eighty three Pats. Bad quarterback play,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: key pieces on defense, poor coaching in the middle of
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: the pac team. Let me know what you guys think,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: no idea. I mean, I'll I'll let the senior members
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: of the show, but I mean I will say that
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: there's some vibes with with eighties teams just because you
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: had tip. Sorry, Paul's giving me. I believe he's keeping
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: up communications. He's giving me the giving me the bird.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: I hate when it does. Um. But you know, there
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: were some elements of like, hey, you had some really
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: good players on the defensive side of the ball, and
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: the offense was a little bit of a I don't know,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I'm intelligently on the eighty three Patriots. Yeah, I was
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: off the top of mine. I was doing the college
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: thing back then. I wasn't really I was watching. I
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: just I mean, I can't that was a nondescript season. Um.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: And I can't tell you exactly why. How many bud
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: lights deep were you when you're watching that game? No,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: diet Miller, he was already nine at that point, already
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: had four kids. So Zach Taylor fast probably oh oh yeah,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: oh yeah, every I probably had one or two watching
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: some of those games. That was fifteen drinking in the eighties.
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: Zach Taylor is talking right now in Cincinnati's right there,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: He's right there. And uh. He said that when he
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: went across the field to talk to Sean McDermott on
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Monday night, that McDermott said that he needs to go
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: to the hospital to be with DeMar Hamlin and that
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: he shouldn't be coaching this game right now. And that
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: was sort of when the decision ramped up to call
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: the game. So McDermott said he needed to go to
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: the hospital. Yeah, all right, makes sense. Yeah. Shaddy from
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Houston writes in I think Purdy does more out of
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: structure than mac Jones does, which has been evident with
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: the forty nine is looking better on offense than when
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Jimmy g was playing. Oh I disagree that with that.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: I also just like the obsession without a structure play
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: drives me nuts, Like why would you want that? Because
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: ninety percent of quarterbacking go to Heaven plan on it
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: out of structure stuff. To me, that's that's a secondary
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: quarterback trade, right, Like it's it's great to have, like
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: josh Allen Patrick Mahomes can do that all day long,
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, ninety percent of
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: football is still played instructure. So what do you do
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: from the pocket? You're timing your accuracy reads from the pocket.
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: That's still more important all day, every day than running
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: around and playing playground side. And I would agree that
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Purdy has made some plays out of the pocket. I
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: think he's better at that than Mac Jones. But the
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: offense has been good all Yeah, I mean Jimmy G
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: was playing really well. Yeah, when he got hurt, he says,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: it's also clear to me that a good team. He
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: said there was never a chance Shanahan wanted Mac as
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: he is more or less the worst version of Jimmy G,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: whereas Lance offered a higher upside. Yeah. I mean I
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: think he went for the higher upside, no question with
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: the Lance. Yeah. Like to me, that is if I
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: can get a guy who can do all the things
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: that I that I have to have, plus this stuff
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: that Evan just talked about, I'll take that. I actually
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: think that the front office was more in Andre Lance
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: and the head coach. And the reason why I say
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: that is just because I think Kyle Shanahan is a
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: little bit in that Belichick school of if I can
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: get the quarterback to just do what the play is
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: designed for me to do, right, you know, this is
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: where we're calling this play, and this is the objective,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: and this is where the ball is supposed to go.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: And I'll take that guy over the guy that improvises.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: He's looking for the efficiency. See I agree, but for
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: a different reason. I think that Shannahan wanted mac Jones too.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: But he might have wanted mac Jones because I just
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: think he felt like he could plug He didn't want
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: Jimmy to be the quarterback, and he wanted to plug
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: in somebody and he knew Lance wasn't going to be
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: ready to be plugged in. Yeah, Um, Lee and malvern
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: uk Um wondering as you discussed mac Jones, how many
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: pieces away is the offense from having some form of
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: identity as we keep seemingly discussing problems that nearly every position.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: I mean, I think a coordinator, like I think if
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: you a well coordinated team, I mean I think the
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: better line play. Yeah, I mean I think that all
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: that stuff certainly goes hand in hand with it. But
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: I have a top three line next year. Yeah. Well,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: I just I think you need to know who you
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: are and what your strengths are. And that's the termined
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: over the course of a season of you know, when
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: it comes down to God to have it plays, what
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: do you go to? You know, what are your core
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: things that you believe? I don't. I don't see anything
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: in this team and it has less to do with
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: who the personnel is, and more with just the overall
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: averageness of the offense that we've watched all year long,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: where they hit a couple of deep shots and then
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: it's three and out, three and out, three and out,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: all right, to drive a drive? All right? Scoring driving
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: three and out? You know, it's just inconsistent and there's
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: nothing really that you would say, what's the biggest strength
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: of this Patriots offense is? Yeah? Right now, I don't know. Yeah, yeah, today,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: the identity of the offense is inconsistency. There's no doubt.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: They're just inconsistent. Not good, Yeah, no, not inconsistent. Okay, Um, Mike,
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: you went on this rant last week. Don't don't bail
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: on me, I think. But they don't have a real
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: identity they like I've been saying that all year. Yeah,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: like what is it that? What is the Patriots offense? Yeah?
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Like what is it? And under center offense? Is it
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: a West Coast offense? Is it a spread offense? Like
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: where we want? What is it? And I looked up
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: to the stat last night actually to look up for
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: the bills because I was, you know, starting to turn
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: the page to Buffalo. What if I told you. The
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: Patriots are second in the league and explosive plays on offense.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: They have this set that's pretty much what might. They
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: have the second most twenty plus yard plays in the league.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: The only team that has more is Kansas City. So
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: it's it's wild that they are truly boom or bus. Now,
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: bust happens way more than boom. But what the problem
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: is is that they can generate these explosives that's but
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: they can't follow. It's just one play I can't follow, right,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: And it's because there's eleven guys on the other team's
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: defense within ten yards of the ball at all times,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: and every once in a while they're gonna beat you.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: And it's not enough to enough to beat you in
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: the game, but enough to generate some explosive plays. But
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: they have these explosive plays where there's these moments where
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: you're like, okay, that was a good play. But they're
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: terrible in the red zone, they're terrible on third down,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: they're situationally, they're awful. So yeah, they can have one
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: or two explosive plays. You know, last week they had
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: you know, three completions of twenty or more yards in
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: the air. But then when they get into the red
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: zone or they get to third and six, they can't
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: convert it. So that's where these drives are stalling so often.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: But I find it's so fascinating that and you know, nowadays,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: especially in football, you hear coaches talk about we gotta
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: limit big plays, we gotta limit big plays, like that's
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: like such a mantra now around the league. And the
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Patriots are actually pretty good at making big plays, but
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: they can't score. They just eliminate all the other places.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: It's just fascinating because all the everything that we know
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: about how you score points in this league is that
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: if you get an explosive in a drive, it increases
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: your chances of scoring on that drive exponentially here but
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: not here, Like it's it's so bizarre. It's like one explosive,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: it's like a seventy five percent chance you're gonna get points.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Two explosives, you're in the end zone. Like that's just
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: the I know. You know what's funny too have up
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: about it is like I remember sitting at Mini camp
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: watching watching Trey Nixon, the one grabbing those passes down
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: the field and being like, wow, look at this, Like
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: I'd have to go back and look. But my guess
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: is when they get those explosives, they score. Like I
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: would argue, that's the only way they can score, because if,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: like for a while, the only way the score was
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: outside the end. But we talked about this other day,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: like the big game winning drive right against the Raiders,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: forty yard past forty yard run, right, that's the only
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: way they score. They're not putting twelve plays together and
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: going eighty nine yards like they did Sunday very often.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: They haven't done that very often. And that's what every
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: single defense in the league is making you beat them
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: by marching right. That's that's the structure of every single defense.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: And that's why we see so much split safety or
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: too deep safety defense being played right now, is because
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: that if we can make you go twelve plays, we're
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: confident and at some point you're gonna stub your toe
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: or at some point you're gonna turn it over, at
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: some point you're gonna have a negative play. So instead
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: of giving it all up in three plays, you're gonna
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: try to make you do it in twelve. And this
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: Patriots offense can't do it in twelve, but they it's
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: so mark to me that they have these high level
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: or just chunk gains if you don't even want to
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: say that they're great plays, but they have these chunk gains,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: but then they can't score. It just doesn't really add up.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: I just count of Paul, eleven of their twenty eight
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: touchdowns have been twenty and more yards out, so explosive plays.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: Eleven when they score. But like you, it's a tough
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: way to live. Oh yeah, we're living it right now.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: Let's say Ben in Brooklyn rights in. What are the
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: odds the Patriots bring back a fullback next year? And
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: who could it be? Also, what's the latest on Bailey's health.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: One thing that slays me is seeing how many playoff
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: teams have way better punters. Not to suggest that townsend
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: means more than mahomes to Kansas City, but it's just
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: immensely frustrating to have a team that not only can't
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: pick up critical first downs but can't flip the field.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know what's going on in Bailey.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: I mean, he was back last week, he's not well.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: He wasn't out at practice today. I wonder if like
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: that's it, because how long is that window once you
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: start for twenty one days. This would be the third week,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: right he was, He's on like thirteen fourteen days of
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: it now yeah another week. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: don't think if if he doesn't get activated for Sunday,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: I would not expect him to be activated, right Ah. Yeah,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: that's been a major thing. I mean, you know, you
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: look at like the Super Bowl against the Rams, the
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: last one, punting was huge, Like punting can make a
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: difference when you're a defense heavy team. Well, that's what's
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: crazy about the whole Remember that game, Like, I know
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Ryan Allen punted in that game, and you're right, like
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: he was great in that guy and Allen and then
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: they then they got rid of him. I don't say
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: has a job right now, so maybe they can bring
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: him back. Apparently not there. What I do find interesting
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: more to me, the kickoffs have really every time they
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: kick off and I hold my breath and I know
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: they don't kick off often, but every time they I
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: hold my I hold my breath because it's always short
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: of the end zone. And he got all these guys
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: back there returning. Now that Marcus Jones is, you know
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: that can house it at any time, and this team
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: like we saw in Minnesota, they can't afford to give
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: up a kickoff return touchdown because they can't score. So
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: it's just it's worrisome. I mean, I find it a
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: little bit interesting that they haven't upgraded Tristan Viskayano on
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: the practice squad to kicker that has a big leg.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: So maybe this the kicker that if they when they
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: elevated Vis gay in, It's not like he's kicking field goals, right, Nick,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Folks still going to kick the field goals. So at
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: least if you're gonna elevate a guy as a kickoff specialist,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: at least elevate a guy that can kick it out
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: the back of the end. Don't They still have a
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: million of those guys that can kick anybody you just
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: can't run. But it's like the long drive guys. There's
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: a million guys that can't put it through the uprights,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: can't do any directionals, you know. But I just don't
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: think I just want to touch back, right, there's gotta
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: be a guy out there, right, that's a valuable roster spot, Paul.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: We can, but we're using the roster spot and a
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: guy who can't get it to the end, right, that's
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: it's point and every yard for this team, as much
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: as it stinks, every yard matters at this point, and
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: it just it would be so much the pressure of
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: the game would just feel a lot better if it
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: was first and ten from the twenty five every single
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: time they kicked off. I mean, Miami good over the
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: thirty like three times the other day. Yeah, once to
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: the forty in starting position. Yeah, they're eighteenth and starting
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: position defensively not good. Yeah, on twenty eight point seven.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Offense is second overall, though they're they're usually out on
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: their own thirty point five to get and to get
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: some help. I don't know what he's said. Paul is
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: from Monroe, North Carolina. This goes back to the offensive points,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: like what should count? No, I guess he says. Offense
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: gets six points for a touchdown. Offense gets two points
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: for two point play. Special teams gets one point for
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: an extra point. You're only getting. I don't buy that.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: You don't even get. Yeah, I don't get if you
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: score an offensive touchdown and you get a touch and
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: you get seven it's as says, special teams gets three
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: points for field goals. That's not true. Not true. Just
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: because you got to get him in position. Oh, this
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: is what you get for doing research. I know friends
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: like I have a lot of no no friends like,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: oh do you have in your paper? And I'm going
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: there's no way I got this, and he actually did.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: Actually there are field goals too. I'm like, I just
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: was counting the touchdowns like it's about tuddies, Like that's it.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Like you can't have your special teams walk onto the
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: field and kick an extra point if your offense doesn't
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: score a touchdown or somebody or somebody gets a touchdown, right, sorry,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: special teams just you're gonna have to be included in
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: the offensive side. Um Todd and Rochester said, I thought
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: this article and headline said a lot about the Patriots
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: players in organization. He said, the headline is Patriots players
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: in tom Brady are top donors for Damar Hamlin toy Drive.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: Oh it's very nice. So that'd be nice. I think
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: he's if it's churching seven million, now, oh yeah, it
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: is it worth six? Yeah? Well you can do a
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: lot of money. That's another off air one safe and
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: that love that you're donating don't need to know about it, right,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: mister Kraft putting the eighteen high out there. I appreciate
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: the nice Jewish and you got you gotta get. Can
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: you explain that is that? Uh? Yeah, I think that's
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: because Lean always says that it's multiple eighteen. Eighteen means life,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: and like that's like the kai means life and that's eighteen,
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: and then you give multiples of eighteen. So like when
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: I was a kid going to your bar mitzvah, Yeah,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: just an acquaintance gets eighteen dollars for the bar mitzva.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: Your friend gets thirty six, right, Like that's you know,
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: that's the way that it goes. And when you have
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: learned me another thing today, Yeah, I got Jonathan Jones
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: as a franchise tag, and now I know it's multie.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: Now I knew that the eighteen was life, but the
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: bar mitz of a thing to me, no regular regular
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: acquaintance eighteen bucks, a close friend thirty six. I just
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: learned that this year I never went to a barmut
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: like that. When my wife, I've got a lot of
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: a lot of Jewish friends, she went to a lot
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: and Tyson this year had a bar mitz of this
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: first one was Brayton's actually Brayton Salk and she's like, yeah,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: so we'll just give him eighteen bucks, like eighteen bucks.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, that sounds oddly specific, but a wonderful number.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: I'm like, eighteen bucks perfect a Matthew Slater or eighteen yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: there you go. And then if you have people that
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: are rich, like mister Kraft, then you get into that right. Right,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: it was a Bills player, so it was eighteen thousand,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: but we're a Patriot play six. Right, that's the rules.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: That's the rules. I'm sorry my grandparents apologize for having
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: that's wealthy. They might give you eighteen hundred on your
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: bar Mitzvah, you know stuff like that. Cool, yeah and
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: eighty sure, Like do we have to go from eighteen
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: to eighteen hundred screwing up the whole thing? Sure? I mean,
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: do we go from eighteen to eighteen hundred? I can't
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: afford that? Second? Jewish weddings too. It's not just bar
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: Mitzva's Jewish weddings. A lot of people will give eighteen,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: like eighteen dollars for a wedding. No, no multiples of eighteen. Yeah. Uh,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: that's Bradley writes in or is it Brady, I don't know,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: he says when mentioning the chunk plays. I think our
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: biggest problem is continuing after we create one. If we
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: don't score in the chunk play, I feel like we
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: always slow down to get the next play in and
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: continue the momentum. Most times we end up with a
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: pre snap penalty or a slow to get the next
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: play in and we take a time out to snap
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: our momentum. There's the identity right there. Good job, that's
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: that's one of the best emails we've gotten on the offense.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: That's what's happened. Ye, that's twenty times they've thrown the
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: ball downfield. Patricia couldn't get the play in on the
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: next play. Like, we're also excited. I think. I think
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: at the end of the year, we get another play
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: the end of the year, people won't be satisfied unless
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: there's a firing squad to just take him out at
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: the end of the season. I uh, the militia not
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: to take care of it. Just some poor guy. I mean,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: he left Detroit literally getting death threats. I mean, like
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: he said, I had no need for this. I wasn't.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: I wasn't being serious, you know. And now he comes
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: here and like they're just all over him. So there's
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: another update on Damar Hamlin from the Bills. Remains in
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: the ICU in critical condition, with signs of improvement yesterday
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: and overnight. He's expected to remain under intensive care as
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: his healthcare team continues to monitor and treat him. So
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: we are seeing some glimpses of hope. I heard today
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: they flipped him onto his chest so that to take
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: pressure off his line. That's the COVID thing that they
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: learned during COVID. They were flipping people on their chests
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: to like take I hadn't seen the long one. I
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: did see that. Someone reported that the doctors were hoping
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: to see some signs overnight and they got they got those, Yeah,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: some some positive signs if they would not get into specifics.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: And I actually think it's been pretty good the way.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: We haven't gotten a lot of specifics, like don't every
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: two seconds, let's not have this one be the one
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: that you know, you got a rush to have something
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: out there because you talk to some family friend who
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: may or may not have had you know, permission from
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: the family to talk. You know, just this is good.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: The bills are giving you some updates. I know that
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: some of the reporters are there giving you some updates too, Yeah,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: Tyler and Georgia. Let's say the Jets decide that Zach
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: Willon is not just the right fit for them, and
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: they call up the Patriots and offer trade of Wilson
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: for Jones. Would you consider No? No, no, I'm not
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: advocate'so Evan's just holding his head. I'm not advocate. If
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: you ask me before the draft, I might have. I
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: not might have. I would have a different answer, but
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: now we know. No, no, no, Now I think he's broken. Yeah,
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: I'm not interested in putting him back together. I'm not advocable.
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: If Bill had him, I think it'd be different. Yeah,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: I'm not advocating that we get rid of Mac, but
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: just a hypothetical. I'm curious if you think a fresh
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: start for Wilson might have a higher upside than where
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: we are when where we presently stand, he can't hit
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: the side of the barn with the football, like this
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: isn't this isn't Like he's broken, like like you know,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: he makes bad decisions and he's not accurate, Like there's
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: a functional accuracy to good quarterbacks right where even guys
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: like Josh Allen who aren't always pinpoint accurate. They can
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: control of football when they throw it. Zack Wilson can't
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: control the football. He doesn't know where it's going. There's
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: been so many few players and I can't even think
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: of another one off the top of my head. I
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: assume there are others, but that he's thrown made throws
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: that I'm like, what are you doing, like like laying
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: the down like that one against us? Like to me,
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: it's more about that than and his off field behavior
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: than anything said. Everything you Evan said, it's right right,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: but you know, on top of all that, I'm far
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: more concerned with the person, like he just doesn't exude
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: leadership in any way, takes no responsibility, Like I think
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: he's broken. Yeah, I don't want you want to protect
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: the moms of New England. You don't want to bring that.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: I see like a little you know Mac has sometimes
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: where his shorter throws are a little bit off right,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: you know, a little bit too far this by that way, whatever,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: totally fair. It's not because he can't make them, and
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: he's not because he can't make him and he's not
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: airmailing at ten feet over the guy's head, like Zach Wilson's.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: He's a guy opened in the flat and it ends
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: up in the first row like that. That's what's so
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: hard for him. And I think I made this point
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: last week, but it's just like, you know, usually guys
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: that flame out like that, like you could see them
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: going to be a back up and maybe they find
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: a career that way. But with a guy who's that
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: boom or bust, it's like, no one's going to trust
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: you to be the backup because you're going to come
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: in and probably make things worse. You know, let's go
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: to the ace ticket outline. Todd's in North Carolina. I
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: hate Todd. Hey, guys, I just got a quick question
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: for those of us, and it's probably just a few
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: of us that are kind of wrong headed, but for
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: those of us that are not confident in Bills still
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: having his fastball, what do we need to see in
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: this last game and in the off season to kind
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: of give us a little bit of Okay, he's still
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: got it. We're we're not you know, we're not in
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: the right. I mean, I would just I don't know
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: about this last game. I think there's a lot going
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: on and I mean that we can talk about it.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: I mean, I think it goes to, you know, what
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: we've all said, just acknowledging that it wasn't good enough,
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: acknowledging what we've all seen, that it's below the bar
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: of acceptability, and that major changes have to be done,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: and that the offense has to be restructured coaching wise
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: and reinforce personnel wise. And I think if he does
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: those things, then you know, you'll you'll believe him and
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: you'll trust in him. But I think if he comes
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: out and tries to sell you something that goes against
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: what you've been watching for sixteen weeks now, then I
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: think people are gonna have a big problem with it.
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: Do you think, you know, like there's so many elements
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: of you know, his job that you know have to improve.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: But one of the areas that we think has gotten
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: better in the last couple of years was drafting. Like
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: they had that stretch where it just wasn't good, and lately,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: you know, they've picked up some players like the last
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: two the first two picks last year or this year.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: The jury's out, you know, Thort and it's strange, but
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: the other guys are contributed last year the guys contributed.
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: Is there any coincidence that, like it started to get
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: better when Cassario left? Now I'm being serious, you know,
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: I think the final straw for Casario is Nickel Arry
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: once he made the Nikularry pick. And I'm not like
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: I think that that pick was heavily driven by Casario.
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: I think that they really liked nikkil Harry coming out
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: of the draft. I think they were looking for that
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: prototypical X receiver that could be a DeVante Parker type
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: for them on the outside, and they really liked him.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: And I think when nat pick was made, they had
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: a philosophical change of we need to get athletes like
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: we can't. It's not about necessarily just about the you know,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: where does he fit in all this kind of football jargon.
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: We need to get guys who are athletes. And they
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: come right back in the twenty twenty draft and Kyle
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Dugger was one of the best athletes at the combine
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: Josh uj great athlete. You know, um go right on
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: down the line. In the last couple of years. This
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: past draft, they you know, strange, good athlete for offensive line.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: Tae Kwon obviously as the forty Marcus Jones, great athlete.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: So I think that that was really a big focus
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: for them. Why, Like was that a Bill decision or
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: was that like Matt grow Elliott Wolf like who only
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: they know? Yeah, right, Like for me, it's Bill. I
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: think Bill had a slump and he's been better than
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: the last few drafts. Other people would say, well, Cassario,
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: that's the line of d market. They're not wrong. That's
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: when Cassario left. Everything Evan said is right. Yeah, Cassario's
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: was the last was with Bill when they picked Harry. Yeah,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: on that last draft. The next draft they got a
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: couple of players that can play. Maybe it was Cassario's fault.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: So I don't know. So I guess what I'm trying
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: to get at is Okay, So there's so many areas
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: that have to improve, but maybe drafting isn't one we
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: need to worry as much about as we were. You know,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: I don't need to be a homer, but I don't
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: necessarily think there's so many areas that need to be
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: improved with this team. Like I think that they have
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: a lot of talent on defense, young talent too, on defense.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: I mean, and we're not talking about everybody being like
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: up there with like Devin mccordy is. You know, they
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: have Kyle Dugger and Ucha and Marcus Jones now hopefully
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: is a guy that can can step up and be
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: a bigger player next year. I think Jawan Bentley is
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: right in the prime of his career and does a
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: decent job at his job, and bar Moore right, offensively,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: they needed to tackle at least one and they still
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: are chasing that golden goose of the number one receiver
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: and an a coordinator. But that's not personnel. Yeah, I think.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: I think if they if they check those boxes, if
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: they get a tackle in the first round, maybe they
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: find an upgrade in the veteran market at wide receiver
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: and they bring Bill O'Brien back next year. I expect
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: it to be better. I don't know if this team
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: is like the team that to me that the roster
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: that had tons of holes everywhere was like the twenty
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: twenty roster, right, and now we've had a couple of
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: decent draft classes. They bring in the free agents in
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: the in the spending spree, and I think that there
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: are some more holes that have been filled. So I
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: don't know if they haven't if they're that far away.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: I agree with your point. I think that the the
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: only place I would I am a little bit concerned.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: It's just that I feel like they need the really
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: important positions like they, like you said, the wide receiver.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: That's because they ignore those those important positions at the
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: top of the draft and they draft the guard in
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: the first round when they needed a number one. And
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: that's why we think. Yeah, but it's like, you know,
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: he's developed nice, but I'd love to have him be
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: a three down player. I'd love to have him be
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: a guy that's you know, man in the opposite side
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: is June On the whole time. But I think the
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: three down this, I think that's Bill like he wants
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: Gilanni Tavia on first down, and I don't necessarily think
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: in other systems. And I'm not saying that that's necessarily
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: wrong because I think that there's there's some merit to that.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: You know, this last game against Miami, Jilanni Divide did
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: a great job setting the edge of the defense. So
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: I'm not saying that there's no merit to it. But
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: I think in other places josh Uja is a three
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: down player. I don't know about that because coming out
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: of Don Brown didn't think so yeah, his coach in
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: Michigan didn't think he could play but Michigan. But Michigan
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: is one of those programs that has a hundred of
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: these guys on their roster, right, So yeah, you know,
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: I just I think that just like Don Brown to
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: a degree, Bill looks at josh Uja and he has
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: a skill set, and then he looks at Gilanni Divi
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: and he has a skill set. I don't necessarily think
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: that a lot of a defensive coordinators always look at
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: like why you know that in that sort of box
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: right where like this guy is this and this guy
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: is that. Whereas I think a lot of dcs would
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: look at it and say, josh you Jay is one
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: of our eleven best players on our roster. We're going
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: to play him seventy five percent of the snaps. I
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: think Bill is more this is what he's good at,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: and I'm going to put him in a position to
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: succeed and to use better at the run. So That's
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: where I'm going to put him. But it puts you
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: at a disadvantage when you have to substitute like that.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: You know, when you can't have a three down player
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: at that position. I just I think to your original
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: question of fact, I think the draft is just continues
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: to be absolutely critical, and I think it it's, you know,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: after last year, they I think they had some hits.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: They still have some questions, but I think you need
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: to you need to continue to hit on guys. You
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: need to hit on guys like Marcus Jones. You need to,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: you know, you really need to hit on at least
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: a couple of these pieces. I feel way out. Yeah,
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: it is because you can't fix it every year by
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: just signing guys. I mean you could do that once
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: in a while. And I'm not talking about twenty twenty one.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: I'm saying, like Evan said, if you get a tackle
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: in the first round and then maybe you get a
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: solid veteran wide receiver, yeah that works because whatever, you're
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: not going to get a solid veteran cornerback, wide receiver, tackle,
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: running back, tight end, and like because even if, like
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: in free agency, even if you think the guy's a
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: mid range talent guy, you're paying top dollar at that
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: range for no matter what the level is. In free agent,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: you're paying top dollar for that left. Like that's how
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: you get in a situation that they're in now where
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: the numbers aren't outrageous, but this particular year, based on compensation,
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: they're receiving cores are the most expensive in the league
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: right now. Would anybody argue that? I mean, Evan went
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: down everybody and said there's not one team that Jacobe
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Myers would be the number one receiver for, and you'd
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: be hard pressed to argue with them, even me. Yeah, right,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: thank you. So that's how you get in that situation
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: is you give not like ninety five million dollars to
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: Christian Kirk or whatever she's signed for you forget right, No,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: but you give way more money to Nelson Agolor and
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: ken Rick Bourne than they're worth right now. It might
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: not have approached anything with Jacksonville pay Christian Kirk, but
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: they're not as good a play or either. Yeah, so
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: you're you're you're, Yeah, compensation is high. Same thing with
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: with Henry and Smith in the place for the veteran market.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: And I also wouldn't roll out corner because we've seen
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: him do that before with Gilmore and to leave and Reevers.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: So I don't know if there's one of those corners
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: on this market. Just looking at the available free agents,
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: but that's that position and wide receiver, I think are
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: the two positions that in a trade, if you can
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: swing big in a trade, that's where you have to
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: go with it. Because I do trust them to degree
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: to get a tackle that can play in the draft, right,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: and I do trust them to a degree to upgrade
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: some of the other marginal positions that we're not talking
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: about premium positions, but in terms of corner and wide receiver,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: I think you have to pay a premium nowadays in
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: this league for those positions. And I that's where I
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: would be looking. I wouldn't be looking in the free agency.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: We should be saying right now, Nikil Harry is our
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: number one guy. That's what. Yeah, in the perfect world,
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: that's what. But you missed, I mean you miss but
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: when he let me ask, you know, they missed on
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: a wide receiver, Like it doesn't in the first round,
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: but it shouldn't cripple you know, four years later. But
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: would they have even paid him, Like if if Nikila
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: Harry was a J. Brown, right and we switched those
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: two like the Titans, right, Like, I probably think that
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: that trade was like Bill was like chef. They made it,
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: and I like Trailing Brooks more than Evan does, but
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: like he's not as good as say J Brown. Yeah,
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: like that's a that's a downgrade. Um, so hold on,
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: like okay, just just to wrap this whole thing up, like,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: because I think Mike and Evan were a little bit
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: differing on the holes the amount of holes, And I
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: think it comes down to for me anyway perspective, Like
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: I think that I wouldn't argue with anything either one
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: of you said when you're analyzing the situation. I think
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: it comes down to what you think. So Evan says,
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: I think they have a lot of really talented young
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: defensive players. We're not going to argue about this right
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: now because we've argued about this a million tens. I
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: don't think the defense is anywhere near as good as
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: Evan does. I think that when they play a good quarterback,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: they're in trouble, just like everybody else is. Okay, So
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: what you think of those young guys to me is
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: different for me, for Mike, for Evan who knows, and
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: it's obvious on offense where we all differ. Evan thinks
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: the quarterback is fine. I don't, so I think you
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: do have holes, and to Mike's point, I would more
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: agree with Mike. I think with Evan because it's the
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: holes that are hard to fill and you have important
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: holes to fill, because I don't think if you've if
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: your defense is what Evan says, you can get by
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: if you improve your offense. Right, So, but it ain't
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: gonna be easy to improve just unless you guys just
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: think gets all. Bill O'Brien, So do you think that
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: if this defense, I don't want to like say, like
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: for the top five, top ten, whatever, but if this
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: defense had an offense that was also pulling its weight
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: this year, they wouldn't be a playoff caliber you know, contender.
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: Playoff contender. Yeah, that's what they are. Bowl contender. No, okay,
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: I'm trying to get to a level I haven't been
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: at since Brady. I'm not just say I don't know
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: if they would be a super Bowl contender either. I
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: don't think this defense could be Kansas City or Buffalo
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: or Cincinnati when it counts. I don't, okay, now, if
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: your offense improves dramatically, but then it could. I will
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: say though, I think that if you add a number
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: one corner, it makes the whole defense better. As good
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: as it is, it makes it even better. That's why
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: I agree with michells are important. But but then I
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: think Evn brings up a good point about the way
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Bills filled that recently. Maybe they can't do it like that. Yeah,
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: maybe he can find a guy like Steel, So maybe
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: you're not unhappy in the walles. That's like swing. A
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: trade for the offense is kind of trade, yeah, because
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: that's why that guy allows you to play man coverage, right,
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: And if you're going to play these great quarterbacks, ultimately
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: you have to you have to man up every once
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: in a while. And this team right now doesn't have
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: that number one corner. And I don't even think they
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: really had it with JC either, to be honest with you,
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: which is why I think they let them walk. And
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: they haven't had it in skillmore. And that's just the
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: biggest difference is that the mahomes Is and the Allens
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: and these guys, they eventually will pick a part zone.
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: They might not. You might be able to catch them
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: with some spins and stuff like that at first, but
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: once they kind of settle in and figure out what
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: it is that you're doing in terms of the disguising.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: They sit there and they pick you apart, and that's
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: the difference. I mean, they're not going to get a
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: Sauce Gardner, But I mean you see the impact that
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: he has with the Jets just as a rookie. I
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: mean it's, you know, but hard. So you couldn't get
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: a Sauce Gardner. You could have gotten Tariquo Will Yeah. No,
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: I he's had a pretty good rookie here. Now. I
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: don't know, don't don't start. And I'm not telling you
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: I haven't watched a ton of Seattle. I know he
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: has a lot of interceptions. I'm not telling you he's
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: played that well. But it's like Diggs had a million
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: interceptions he wasn't playing. I have no respect for zone corners.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: I love his l in Wisconsin says, come on, Paul,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: you think that if Bill had Zach Wilson that he
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: wouldn't be broken. Really, he's sure done a great job
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: coaching up Mac Jones. Now, I don't know if this
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: is sarcastic or not. I think it was to see
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Evan's mad at you now but not Salman writes in
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: the Zach Wilson discussion got me thinking generally, why is
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: it so hard for college quarterbacks to find success in
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: the NFL? Zach Wilson looked so good at BYU and
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: did not look good at b YU, and now he
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: couldn't throw a paper wad into a waist bin accurately.
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: I thought that maybe it has to do with going
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: from shotgun in college to mostly in the center in
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: the NFL. But what of the reasons are there that
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: it's hard for these quarterbacks to succeed? Go watch the
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: B A B y U tape. Go watch it. He
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: has a The amount of time in space that he
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: has in the pocket is absolutely absurd. There's nobody within
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: ten yards of him when he's standing there. Make it throws.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: He's basically throwing at BYU like he didn't like Alabama,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: basically throwing at b YU stop like like he like
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: he would did at his pro day right like like
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: he's thrown against air. Okay, kind of like he's playing
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: at Alabama and it's nothing like Alabama. There was a
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: guy from Georgia who was actually on the field at
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: one of those times Alabama. Alabama was playing in the
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: SEC in the National Championship Game. Okay, that's where I
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: would say it's the quality of competition that, by my goodness, yeah,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: you know anything else. And there's a ton of guys
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: in all positions, by the way, that are just college players.
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: I think the bigger questions Bill will tell you college
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: is it's so hard to play defense. So Bill will
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: tell you the college offense is totally different. It's a gimmick.
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: He has no respect for it, a lot of it.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: And I will admit that this is I'm putting a
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: point in Paul's column here, thank you, And I will
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: admit that this is a problem with mac Jones. A
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: lot of it is that these quarterbacks in college never
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: play under pressure, right because they have all day to
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: throw and they got these clean pockets that they're working
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: from constantly. And in the NFL, no matter if you
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: have the best offensive line in the league or not,
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: you're still going to face pressure at a higher rate
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: and at a more impactful rate, where you have guys
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: that are chasing you, that can actually chase you, are
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: actually going to get you down to that point. Though,
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: do you think there's anything We've talked about this a
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: little bit that Matt came in and I thought, you know,
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: right from the get go, look kind of comfortable in
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: the pocket. I mean, definitely more than I saw from
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: Stidham in his rookie year. I mean, do you think
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: that there's an element of like, you don't know what
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: you don't know? And he kind of got here and
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: he just kind of assumed, like you don't really get pressured,
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: and then his things kind of have progressed. He realizes, oh,
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: there's some days where my offense of line are going
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: to totally cut coverages and I'm gonna, you know, cut
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: rushes and I'm gonna get at Auburn and didn't have
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: you know, not that he was playing at By. Yeah.
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: I mean, not to make it a comparison between those
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: just generally, maybe maybe Stidham was more used to being
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: but I also think that Stidham is more athletic and
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: ran around as part of the week. I just think
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: I wasn't trying to make a Stidham call. I'm just
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: saying a point of comparison between the two guys. I
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: just think in college, even when you are under pressure
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: a lot of the time and I maybe not necessarily
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: for Mac, but a lot of the time for a
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: guy like Zach Wilson, he's the best athlete on the field,
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: so these defensive ends are chasing him, but they can't
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: actually catch him because he's a better athlete than they are.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: So now he's getting out of it. Now he catch
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: right now, they catch you. Now, Matthew Judon's chasing you
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: down instead of some guy from BYU that's gonna be
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: a car salesman into a week and all of a sudden,
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: you know, now we're we're in a totally different ball game,
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: same thing. I don't know BYU. They might go into there.
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: And this is why I said I made the point.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: There's a lot of positions that it's like quarterbacks of
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: the high profile and they go in the first round,
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: they get overdrafted because they quarterbacks, and then they don't
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: pan out, so you remember them all. But I mean,
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: I could give you a laundry list of guys, you know,
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: like John Ross, like to Whatevan just said, Bean faster
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: than everybody else on the field. Then he got into
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: the NFL, and maybe he was still technically faster than everybody,
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: but not by as much. Right, everybody else could run too,
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: And now what do you have fallen back on? He
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: didn't have the talent. Yeah, I mean, this is the problem.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: The fear that I have with Taekwon, right is like, Okay,
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: you guys went to a guy from another team on packs.
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: But it's ultimately the hardest part of evaluating quarterbacks from
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: the draft and saying that this is what I project
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: this guy to be in the NFL is how they're
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: going to handle pressure and how they're going to handle
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: suboptimal environment that they're playing in, because you just there's
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: nothing translatable at the college level because either they're in
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: clean pockets all day or they're a better athlete than
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: everybody on field. So it's just so difficult to sit
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: there and say, Okay, this is what they're gonna look
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: like in the pros because it's not a pro pocket
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: and it's not pro routes and it's not pro coverage.
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: So like, how do you make that translation? Is often
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: what decides whether or not this guy's any good. That's
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: why I think a lot of teams, well, that's why
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: the microcosm of the of the Senior Bowl is important
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: because they get to finally line them up in pro
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: schemes at practice and yeah, you know, unfortunately a lot
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: of the big quarterbacks don't. Don't partakes, right, But I
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: think that a lot of the time, that's why teams
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: put so much stock in the College Football Playoff in
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: those games because okay, now we get to see you know,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: um the high state quarterback of them of course planking
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: out Stroud. We get to see Stroud against an elite
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: defense on college and what he does in this moment,
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: in these big moments, and he played out of his mind.
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: So he's probably going to be a top two pick
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: in April, you know, um Mac and the college football
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: Playoff also played out of his mind, and so he
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: ends up being a first round pick. And I think
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: that those games, Trevor Lawrence, you know, in those situations,
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: played great for the most part. So that's what you
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: have to go buy. But even still, Alabama's defense is
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: one of the best defenses in college football every year,
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: and it's still not in NFL defense. I saw something interesting,
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: you know about the college you know, we're talking about
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: the differences in the college game, and you know, those
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: two college football playoffs on Saturday night, they both went
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: down to a lot of situational football at the end, right,
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: there's a lot of two minute drives and whatnot, and
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: I didn't see them all as I don't know if
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: you heard. I was at a wedding and missed everything,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: So I didn't get to do my thing, Mike, that
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: I like to do so much. You know, you got
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: to take a time out here, spike at there, get
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: out of bounds? Why are you getting out of bounce
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: all that stuff. So I saw someone was quoting, I
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: think it was Burt Breer was quote you know, I
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: had talked to an NFL executive or something, and one
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: of the things that he said, which I thought, I
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: never really thought of it that way. Is a lot
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: of colleges, a lot of college coaches struggle with the
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: end of the game situations because they ain't in them. Yeah,
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: the NFL every week comes down to that. So these
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: guys are trained in it. They do it all the
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: time in the NFL. To Evans point, we have to
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: wait for the college football playoffs to see if CJ.
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: Stroud can play against good teams because he plays in
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: the Big Ten. And I'm sorry, the Big Ten is
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: not the SEC. It's good, but it ain't the SEC,
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: you know, And those teams they're not used to having
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: close games. They might have Muster is no. Sorry, I'm sorry, Meg,
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: Sorry Meg. I mean, Ohio State plays Michigan every year.
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: That's the one game that they play in the regular season.
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: That is I guess maybe Penn State. I guess if
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: they play Penn State. They played they played some good teams,
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: I'm not saying, but they don't all come down to
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: the last possession when you're Ohio State or Michigan. You know,
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: like most of the time you're beating Iowa and Wisconsin.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. CJ. Strouds a baller. No, No,
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: I played out of his mind. It's a whole separate
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: It's a whole separate thing. I like CJ. Stroud too.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: I like Bryce Young too. I mean I would worry
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: about Bryce young size. He's small, yeah, but um, you know,
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: and I would have the same kind of concerns that
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: I did with Tua. What are Cassara is gonna do
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: with Bryce Young? It's gotta take him right, thank him. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: he's gonna go. I think he's gotta take him all right.
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: That's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots on Filtered,
