- 1:17Speaker 2: mr his hop and today we're continuing our study in
- 1:22Speaker 2: the chapter of jeremiah chapter 23 we're gonna pick it
- 1:27Speaker 2: up in verse 36 through 40 and we actually get
- 1:33Speaker 2: to finish the chapter today praise god this was a
- 1:38Speaker 2: long chapter But we're able to conclude the chapter on today. So, amen.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Stick with us. It's going to be good. So our
- 1:49Speaker 2: latest episode, we discuss how false prophets were twisting God's
- 1:54Speaker 2: word and misleading God's people. But today, God takes that
- 2:00Speaker 2: warning even further. It's going to get even more serious.
- 2:04Speaker 2: He confronts people who are misusing his word. Treating his
- 2:09Speaker 2: message clearly and care. Clearly, clearly. Oh, man, it's a
- 2:17Speaker 2: tongue twister. They were carelessly treating his word. In other words,
- 2:21Speaker 2: they did not care how they handled the word of God.
- 2:25Speaker 2: In this podcast, we honor God's word. Amen. And by
- 2:31Speaker 2: doing that, they brought dishonor to his name.
- 2:33Speaker 3: So.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Here's a question we need to consider today. Are we
- 2:38Speaker 2: allowing God's word to correct us? Or are we twisting
- 2:43Speaker 2: it to support what we already want to believe? That's
- 2:51Speaker 2: a dangerous thing to do. And today we're going to
- 2:54Speaker 2: deal with that on the podcast. And also we want
- 2:59Speaker 2: to invite you to join us in our live chat.
- 3:02Speaker 2: We do have an app. We have an online community.

- 4:39Speaker 2: go to prayer. Heavenly Father, we ask that you will
- 4:44Speaker 2: fill us with your presence. We ask, O Lord, that
- 4:48Speaker 2: you will bless this microphone, this broadcast, this podcast, this recording.
- 4:54Speaker 2: We ask, O God, that your hand will be on it,
- 4:59Speaker 2: that the people who listen to it will be blessed,
- 5:01Speaker 2: will be healed, delivered, and set free. The souls will
- 5:06Speaker 2: be saved, O God. We ask, Lord, that we will
- 5:08Speaker 2: be able to snatch people off of the broad road
- 5:11Speaker 2: that leads to destruction and that we will fellowship with
- 5:16Speaker 2: them and help them along the path that is narrow,
- 5:21Speaker 2: the path that leads to everlasting life. O God, let
- 5:25Speaker 2: our desires be more for the kingdom of heaven than
- 5:29Speaker 2: for this temporal earthly world. We remove all distractions and
- 5:35Speaker 2: all hindrances. In Jesus' name, we cancel the assignments of
- 5:39Speaker 2: the enemy. In the name of Jesus, amen. All right, beloved.
- 5:47Speaker 2: We appreciate y'all for joining us today. So as I said,
- 5:52Speaker 2: we are in Jeremiah chapter 23. So let's tackle verse 36.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Make sure you grab your Bibles, your notepads, your highlighters
- 6:05Speaker 2: and follow along.
- 6:07Speaker 3: All right.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Verse 36, it says in the Oracle of the Lord,
- 6:13Speaker 2: you shall mention no more. For every man's word will
- 6:19Speaker 2: be his Oracle. For you have perverted the words of
- 6:25Speaker 2: the living God. The Lord of hosts, our God. And
- 6:35Speaker 2: that's the new King James. Let me see. The old
- 6:41Speaker 2: King James in the burden of the Lord. Now the
- 6:44Speaker 2: Oracle or the burden. That's the difference in both translations.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But let me see in the burden of the Lord.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Shall he mention no more for every man's word shall
- 6:58Speaker 2: be his burden. For ye have perverted the words of
- 7:04Speaker 2: the living God of the Lord of hosts, our God.
- 7:09Speaker 2: All right. And then I'm going to go ahead and
- 7:16Speaker 2: keep reading. So verse 37, thus says, and I'm going
- 7:21Speaker 2: to stay in the old King James for now. Verse 37,
- 7:25Speaker 2: thus says thou, thus shall thou say to the prophet,
- 7:31Speaker 2: What has the Lord answered thee? And what has the
- 7:38Speaker 2: Lord spoken?
- 7:39Speaker 5: 38.
- 7:42Speaker 2: But since ye say the burden of the Lord, therefore
- 7:45Speaker 2: thus says the Lord, because ye say this word, the
- 7:50Speaker 2: burden of the Lord, and I have sent unto you saying,
- 7:55Speaker 2: you shall not say the burden of the Lord. Now,
- 7:59Speaker 2: the Lord is having an issue with this phrase. Therefore, behold,
- 8:05Speaker 2: I even I will utterly forget you. Wow. I will
- 8:10Speaker 2: forsake you in the city that I gave you in
- 8:17Speaker 2: your fathers and cast you out of my presence. Verse 40.
- 8:27Speaker 2: And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you and
- 8:33Speaker 2: a perpetual shame which shall not be forgotten. This is strong.
- 8:42Speaker 2: That is the word of the Lord. Amen.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Alright.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Let's break it down, beloved. Verse 36.
- 8:53Speaker 1: You have.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Presented the words of the living. I mean, you have
- 8:59Speaker 2: perverted the words of the living God. The central issue
- 9:06Speaker 2: is that these false prophets had distorted God's message. They
- 9:15Speaker 2: should have stayed faithful to delivering what God spoke, but
- 9:21Speaker 2: they were misinterpreting him. Almost like the journalists of today, right?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Have you ever had an interview in the newspaper or
- 9:33Speaker 2: on the news and you have your words misinterpreted or
- 9:37Speaker 2: anything like that? Now, it wasn't a harmless mistake. They
- 9:49Speaker 2: were actually leading people away from the truth making their
- 9:56Speaker 2: own messages carry the authority that only belongs to God
- 10:02Speaker 2: now that is a heart of pride that is a
- 10:06Speaker 2: heart of straight arrogance how can you knowingly lead people
- 10:14Speaker 2: away from the word and from the scripture and make
- 10:17Speaker 2: yourself the authority And that is exactly what a cults do.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Even churches, borderline on this, churches that are considered to
- 10:27Speaker 2: be legalistic, where they add extra things, extra requirements to
- 10:34Speaker 2: your life. They tell you, oh, you got to be
- 10:37Speaker 2: baptized by our church or our religion, or you have
- 10:40Speaker 2: to subscribe to this or that or the other that
- 10:45Speaker 2: only comes from our church. We're the only ones who
- 10:47Speaker 2: are right with God. And you got to Submit your
- 10:52Speaker 2: entire life to us instead of just simply teaching faithfully
- 10:57Speaker 2: what the word says. There are going to be a
- 11:02Speaker 2: lot of pastors who have to answer for this. This
- 11:10Speaker 2: is serious. This is a serious warning for everyone who teaches.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Preaches and shares the word of God.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Now notice that God calls himself the living God. He
- 11:27Speaker 2: is not an idea that we can reshape or fit
- 11:36Speaker 2: into our own preference. He is the creator. He is
- 11:41Speaker 2: the king and the one whose word carries the final authority.
- 11:51Speaker 2: We have to realize that we are serving a true
- 11:54Speaker 2: and a living king and only his word will stand.
- 12:00Speaker 2: My word falls to the wayside. Your word is worthless.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I don't care if it's the president of the United States.
- 12:10Speaker 2: His word does not outweigh God's word. The word of
- 12:17Speaker 2: the living God and the false prophets had taking God's
- 12:21Speaker 2: message and they perverted it. That means that they had twisted, corrupted,
- 12:28Speaker 2: and misinterpreted what he actually said. And that's dangerous. That
- 12:37Speaker 2: is something that has happened through history. Remember, as we
- 12:41Speaker 2: study church history, we know that the Catholic church was
- 12:48Speaker 2: would not allow their people to read the Bible. They
- 12:50Speaker 2: wanted to be the ones to read the scriptures and
- 12:54Speaker 2: tell the people what the scripture said. That is dangerous.
- 13:01Speaker 2: That's where we get the whole movement of Martin Luther.
- 13:04Speaker 2: He wanted the people to have the word themselves. So
- 13:08Speaker 2: he translated the word, I believe, into Germany. And that's
- 13:15Speaker 2: where you got the Lutheran revival because of that issue itself.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Human nature, people can twist the word. That's why we
- 13:30Speaker 2: have to study it on our own. So we have
- 13:38Speaker 2: to see the danger. Whenever somebody takes a Bible verse
- 13:42Speaker 2: out of context to justify their Their own lifestyle, their
- 13:47Speaker 2: own behavior. People want to live according to their own lust.
- 13:52Speaker 2: So they manipulate people or make a personal opinion sound
- 13:58Speaker 2: like a commandment from the Lord. That is crazy. That
- 14:06Speaker 2: is a foul and wicked spirit. So we have to
- 14:13Speaker 2: be careful, even when we sincerely believe that we're right.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Good intentions do not give us permission to change what
- 14:24Speaker 2: the Bible says. Amen. That's why I always say when
- 14:31Speaker 2: I'm teaching, this is my opinion. You can take it
- 14:34Speaker 2: or leave it. You can study it for yourself. When
- 14:40Speaker 2: I want to speak. an opinion or a view that
- 14:45Speaker 2: I hold, but I hold it loosely because if the
- 14:50Speaker 2: word of God says something different, then I will correct
- 14:55Speaker 2: it to line up with the word. I'm not going
- 14:57Speaker 2: to hold a view or an opinion to my destruction.
- 15:01Speaker 2: That is crazy because I don't know it all. I'm
- 15:07Speaker 2: not God. I don't I didn't create the universe. I
- 15:11Speaker 2: do not know. I'm not going to trust my own heart.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I'm going to trust what the word says. So before
- 15:20Speaker 2: we say God told me this or that or the other,
- 15:23Speaker 2: we should ask ourselves, did God actually say that in
- 15:28Speaker 2: his word? Am I applying the scriptures faithfully or am
- 15:35Speaker 2: I attaching God's name to my own opinions? This is
- 15:41Speaker 2: what the false prophets were doing. You should never use
- 15:48Speaker 2: God's authority to make a personal opinion untouchable. We got
- 16:00Speaker 2: to be willing to examine our interpretations and accept the
- 16:07Speaker 2: correction if it needs to be corrected. We can easily
- 16:12Speaker 2: interpret something wrong out of the scripture. That's why we
- 16:16Speaker 2: have to faithfully divide the word righteously with integrity and
- 16:24Speaker 2: diligently study the word. God has hidden so many treasures
- 16:30Speaker 2: in his word and treasures that we will never have
- 16:34Speaker 2: because we don't take the time out to dig amen
- 16:41Speaker 2: verse 37 what has the lord spoken see god directs
- 16:48Speaker 2: the people to ask what he has actually spoken right
- 16:56Speaker 2: The emphasis is on the genuine message from the Lord
- 17:00Speaker 2: rather than the claims of someone presenting himself as a prophet.
- 17:06Speaker 2: A messenger must be accountable to the message that God
- 17:10Speaker 2: truly gave. Right? So this verse gives us a practical
- 17:19Speaker 2: standard for spiritual discernment. Instead of being impressed by a
- 17:24Speaker 2: preacher's confidence, By their personality, their popularity, their celebrity status, right?
- 17:37Speaker 2: We have to ask the question, what does the word
- 17:40Speaker 2: of God actually say? Concerning this, I've heard a few
- 17:47Speaker 2: things that I don't agree with. That even my own past,
- 17:53Speaker 2: the pastor that I'm sitting under right now. There's a
- 17:57Speaker 2: few things that I don't agree with. I mean, they're
- 18:01Speaker 2: not so grievous to where I need to leave the church.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You know, you take a little study, this and any other.
- 18:10Speaker 2: But there's some things you're not. I mean, you're not
- 18:12Speaker 2: going to agree with everything I say on this podcast.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And I possibly if I met you and we sat
- 18:18Speaker 2: down in Starbucks or something and started to do a
- 18:21Speaker 2: Bible study. There are probably some things that you would
- 18:26Speaker 2: present that I wouldn't agree with. As long as the
- 18:31Speaker 2: essentials are there, right? We have to believe that Jesus
- 18:34Speaker 2: is the Messiah, that Jesus is the Son of God.
- 18:37Speaker 2: We have to believe that Jesus is God, the second
- 18:41Speaker 2: person in the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We
- 18:44Speaker 2: have to believe that he died for our sins and
- 18:48Speaker 2: rose again. And that we can receive the Holy Spirit
- 18:52Speaker 2: through him and forgiveness for our sins. I mean, we
- 18:56Speaker 2: have to believe the essentials for salvation, but the issues
- 19:01Speaker 2: that don't deal with our salvation, like the rapture, post-trip, pre-trip,
- 19:07Speaker 2: I don't think that's a salvation issue. I don't think
- 19:11Speaker 2: you'll go to hell if you want to go through tribulation. Now,
- 19:17Speaker 2: if you're faithfully living for God, And when the rapture
- 19:21Speaker 2: happens before the tribulation, then we can explain it to
- 19:24Speaker 2: you what's going on. Because I believe in pre-trib myself,
- 19:28Speaker 2: but that's not an issue worth dividing over. So a
- 19:35Speaker 2: person can speak with great passion and still be wrong. Sometimes,
- 19:40Speaker 2: or someone can have a large audience and still mishandle
- 19:45Speaker 2: the scripture. I mean, it's possible. A message can make
- 19:49Speaker 2: us feel good without being biblically accurate. But that doesn't
- 19:54Speaker 2: mean we should become suspicious of everybody who teaches, though.
- 19:59Speaker 2: It means that we should become students of the word ourselves.
- 20:04Speaker 2: We shouldn't just rely on the message that we hear
- 20:07Speaker 2: at church. That's why I love the Bereans in Acts
- 20:11Speaker 2: chapter 17, verse 11, where, and I love to bring
- 20:17Speaker 2: them up. They were commended because they received the word.
- 20:26Speaker 2: They received the message and eagerly while searching the scripture
- 20:31Speaker 2: daily to see whether what they heard was true. They
- 20:36Speaker 2: said that, I mean, That's worth looking up. This should
- 20:45Speaker 2: be one of our memory verses right here. And so
- 20:51Speaker 2: bear with me for a second. I'm going to turn
- 20:53Speaker 2: to that because even back then this was rare, but
- 21:00Speaker 2: this was commendable. It says, now the Berean Jews were
- 21:06Speaker 2: of more noble character. Would you like to be known
- 21:13Speaker 2: as someone who has a noble character, especially according to
- 21:19Speaker 2: biblical standards? This is God's view of the Abrians. They
- 21:25Speaker 2: were of noble character than those of Thessalonica, for they
- 21:30Speaker 2: received the message with great eagerness. And examine the scriptures
- 21:37Speaker 2: every day to see if what Paul said was true. Now,
- 21:42Speaker 2: they examine the scriptures every day. And what do we
- 21:47Speaker 2: do on this podcast? Right. When I tell people that
- 21:51Speaker 2: I come on here Monday through Saturday, some of them,
- 21:55Speaker 2: I've heard some people say, wow, that's a lot. Like,
- 21:57Speaker 2: how can you do a podcast every day going through
- 22:00Speaker 2: the scriptures? Hey, because I want to be like the Bereans. Now,
- 22:05Speaker 2: with the exception, I do play replays during the weekend,
- 22:10Speaker 2: sometimes here and there. I believe the replays are good
- 22:16Speaker 2: to listen to because it's still the word. Sometimes we
- 22:18Speaker 2: can go, you know, we learn through repetition. So sometimes
- 22:23Speaker 2: it's good to kind of go over some of the
- 22:25Speaker 2: messages we've already went over. And that, I don't know,
- 22:30Speaker 2: maybe the Lord will convict me and I need to
- 22:32Speaker 2: do a new podcast on the weekends. But normally I'm
- 22:36Speaker 2: kind of busy on the weekends, so I'm able to
- 22:40Speaker 2: allow it to play Monday through Saturday. But honestly, the
- 22:46Speaker 2: new podcast will come out Monday through Thursday. And then
- 22:51Speaker 2: the one at the end of the week, the Thursday
- 22:55Speaker 2: podcast will repeat Friday and Saturday. But we are still
- 23:00Speaker 2: able to come on here every day. and go through
- 23:05Speaker 2: the scriptures. So, man, maybe I should change this podcast
- 23:12Speaker 2: to the Breein's, the Breein podcast, you know what I'm saying?
- 23:17Speaker 5: Amen.
- 23:17Speaker 2: So, I mean, there's a balance right here. Receive teaching
- 23:23Speaker 2: with an open heart. You can be eager to receive
- 23:26Speaker 2: the teaching. You can be eager to come to the
- 23:30Speaker 2: podcast and listen and receive what we are able to
- 23:36Speaker 2: experience as far as the scripture goes, but test everything
- 23:42Speaker 2: with the scriptures. Do your own study. Do your own
- 23:46Speaker 2: look up. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Don't just ask whether a message sounds good. Ask whether
- 23:54Speaker 2: or not the message is true. Verse 38. misusing the phrase,
- 24:04Speaker 2: the burden of the Lord. Now this, I don't know,
- 24:09Speaker 2: this intrigues me. I even mentioned it in the last episode.
- 24:14Speaker 2: You got to stop saying this phrase, the burden of
- 24:17Speaker 2: the Lord. Now the false prophets continued to use religious language,
- 24:24Speaker 2: even after God had commanded and confronted them to stop.
- 24:33Speaker 2: They were using the phrase associated with the Lord's message
- 24:37Speaker 2: in a way that misrepresented God. Remember, God's yoke is
- 24:46Speaker 2: easy and his burden is light. They're like saying the
- 24:49Speaker 2: burden of the Lord, like this heavy burden was placed
- 24:53Speaker 2: on them by God. And their refusal to heed God's
- 24:56Speaker 2: warning exposed the seriousness of their disobedience. God didn't like,
- 25:04Speaker 2: he doesn't like it when we misrepresent him. We don't
- 25:09Speaker 2: need to be all sad and frowned up when we
- 25:14Speaker 2: go to church and make it seem like it's so
- 25:17Speaker 2: hard and difficult to serve God and be a Christian.
- 25:20Speaker 2: He wants us to be joyful. He wants us to
- 25:24Speaker 2: praise his name, come into his courts with thanksgiving. coming
- 25:29Speaker 2: to his courts with praise, singing unto the Lord. When
- 25:32Speaker 2: was the last time you just sat and just sung
- 25:36Speaker 2: unto the Lord? It was an AI song. I keep
- 25:40Speaker 2: putting it on repeat because it speaks to my life,
- 25:44Speaker 2: my experience with God. It's the God doesn't play about
- 25:48Speaker 2: me song, a very popular song. Even my wife and
- 25:52Speaker 2: my kids make fun of me because I play it
- 25:54Speaker 2: so much, but It's like, do you have a song?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Can you get away with the Lord and just have
- 26:00Speaker 2: a song and just spend time with them?
- 26:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Sometimes people can be so comfortable using religious language that
- 26:10Speaker 2: they forget the responsibility that comes from it.
- 26:16Speaker 6: Right.
- 26:16Speaker 2: We wear expressions such as God told me or the
- 26:20Speaker 2: Lord said, or I have a word from God. Those
- 26:24Speaker 2: words should never be used casually to give our opinion
- 26:30Speaker 2: extra authority. We should never use God's name to push
- 26:39Speaker 2: our own personal preferences. God especially confronts the misuse of
- 26:46Speaker 2: the phrase, the burden of the Lord. The point is
- 26:49Speaker 2: not that every reference to God a burden from God
- 26:55Speaker 2: is wrong. But here's the problem. These particular prophets were
- 27:04Speaker 2: using the phrase in a way that God did not
- 27:13Speaker 2: command them to. In other words, they were using it
- 27:19Speaker 2: in a way that God condemned them. If he says,
- 27:22Speaker 2: do not use my name in vain, or if he says,
- 27:26Speaker 2: do not use this phrase, don't say it this way,
- 27:30Speaker 2: don't say it that way, then they need to be
- 27:37Speaker 2: obedient to that. As God told you not to say
- 27:44Speaker 2: something in a certain way or not to say something
- 27:49Speaker 2: to a certain person, As a matter of fact, I
- 27:55Speaker 2: kind of stepped into it the other day. I was
- 27:58Speaker 2: walking into the lunchroom at work and I had a
- 28:02Speaker 2: couple of coworkers that were just kind of hanging out
- 28:04Speaker 2: in there. And so I greet them, right? I try
- 28:09Speaker 2: to be cordial to everyone I come in contact with.
- 28:14Speaker 2: And they start talking about one of their colleagues, you know,
- 28:17Speaker 2: one of their coworkers that we all know and love.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And then I just fall right into it and I
- 28:24Speaker 2: just start saying comments about him as well. Not necessarily.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I mean, I guess it could have been gossip. I mean,
- 28:33Speaker 2: it wasn't out of malicious, you know, just certain facts
- 28:35Speaker 2: that I knew and things that I joke about. I even,
- 28:39Speaker 2: you know, talk to him. You know, I mess with
- 28:41Speaker 2: him and joke with him. We go back and forth
- 28:45Speaker 2: about certain things. But then I was convicted. I'm like, Lord,
- 28:48Speaker 2: was I gossiping? We got to be careful with what
- 28:54Speaker 2: we say, especially with what we say about people. I
- 28:57Speaker 2: had to ask the Lord for forgiveness. And we got
- 29:02Speaker 2: to be careful. We can be drawn into just conversations
- 29:06Speaker 2: that we shouldn't take part in. But when it comes
- 29:14Speaker 2: to what the scripture teaches, we have to Respect the
- 29:21Speaker 2: difference between what the scripture teaches and what could be
- 29:27Speaker 2: somebody's opinion or somebody's thoughts or somebody's personal preference. So
- 29:36Speaker 2: if we're giving someone advice, don't tell them God commanded something.
- 29:40Speaker 2: when the Bible doesn't even say that. If you're sharing
- 29:44Speaker 2: a personal impression, be honest about what it is rather
- 29:50Speaker 2: than presenting it as an unquestionable revelation.
- 29:54Speaker 5: Right?
- 29:58Speaker 2: As I shared with you, this was the issue from
- 30:02Speaker 2: the first church fellowship that I came up under. They
- 30:07Speaker 2: were heavy on legalism. They were heavy on controlling their congregants.
- 30:15Speaker 2: At first, as a young man in my early 20s,
- 30:27Speaker 2: And coming from a broken home, you appreciate the structure. Now,
- 30:33Speaker 2: this is another angle I never really shared. It was
- 30:37Speaker 2: attractive to me to be in a strict environment because
- 30:41Speaker 2: it felt like people actually cared about me and loved me. Remember,
- 30:46Speaker 2: before then, I was raising myself. My mother was absent
- 30:54Speaker 2: and my father did the best he could, but he
- 30:56Speaker 2: was an alcoholic, he was always drinking. So his parental
- 31:06Speaker 2: presence wasn't there. He was a provider. And so I
- 31:13Speaker 2: didn't really learn how to, I didn't grow up in
- 31:15Speaker 2: a structured environment. I didn't grow up I could stay
- 31:20Speaker 2: out as late as I wanted to. When I got
- 31:23Speaker 2: out of line, my dad would get me in line.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I couldn't stay out for days or whatever. But I
- 31:31Speaker 2: could pretty much do what I wanted. I had free reign.
- 31:34Speaker 2: So when I came into a church setting like this
- 31:38Speaker 2: where it was strict, at first it felt like love.
- 31:41Speaker 2: It felt like structure. So that's a word to you parents.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Even though your children might buck against you, When they're older,
- 31:52Speaker 2: they will appreciate the structure that you placed in their lives.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Right.
- 31:59Speaker 2: But it's got to be a healthy structure. Because at
- 32:03Speaker 2: first it felt like love. It felt like security. It
- 32:07Speaker 2: felt like, you know, OK, these people care about me.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Then it changed and it went into control and manipulation.
- 32:22Speaker 2: So when the scripture corrects us, don't double down just
- 32:25Speaker 2: to protect our reputation. Humility tells us to let me
- 32:32Speaker 2: check what God's word says. Pride says I don't need
- 32:36Speaker 2: to be corrected.
- 32:42Speaker 3: All right.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Verse 39, the consequences of rejecting God's warning. So right here,
- 32:51Speaker 2: God announces judgment against those who persistently misrepresented his message. Now,
- 33:01Speaker 2: the privilege of representing the Lord did not protect these
- 33:07Speaker 2: prophets from accountability. Their continued rebellion would bring serious consequences,
- 33:18Speaker 2: including the loss of of the security they had taken
- 33:24Speaker 2: for granted. So beloved, this verse is sobering because God
- 33:39Speaker 2: is not merely expressing his disappointment with his prophets. He
- 33:46Speaker 2: is announcing judgment. So they were warned. They were warned
- 33:55Speaker 2: time and time again, but the false prophets continued their deception.
- 34:03Speaker 2: So eventually the consequences of their rebellion would become unavoidable.
- 34:14Speaker 2: That is scary that we can get to a place
- 34:16Speaker 2: with God that we can run out of grace. even
- 34:22Speaker 2: if we try and beg for forgiveness, once his grace
- 34:28Speaker 2: is removed, it is too late. There's billions of people
- 34:35Speaker 2: in hell right now experiencing that reality. And I pray
- 34:41Speaker 2: that we will never be on that side. Amen. We
- 34:46Speaker 2: need to understand that God's patience is does not permission
- 34:52Speaker 2: to continue to do what's wrong. God is patient with us,
- 34:57Speaker 2: but his patience has a limit. God gives us opportunity
- 35:08Speaker 2: after opportunity to repent, to learn our lesson and to
- 35:13Speaker 2: change our behavior, but we should never Assume that because
- 35:20Speaker 2: judgment has not happened yet, that God approves of our behavior.
- 35:25Speaker 2: A lot of people think, well, because I haven't been
- 35:33Speaker 2: judged by God, then God must not care. No, God
- 35:37Speaker 2: has given us time to get it right. Now, this
- 35:44Speaker 2: also reminds us that religious positions does not exempt anyone
- 35:51Speaker 2: from accountability. So you can be a pastor, you can
- 35:56Speaker 2: be a worship leader, a Bible teacher, a Christian artist,
- 36:02Speaker 2: a ministry founder does not place a person above God's truth.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I can't say, well, because I'm Mr. Hishop and I
- 36:12Speaker 2: opened a Christian club and look at all the good
- 36:14Speaker 2: I've done in my community, that does not guarantee me passage,
- 36:22Speaker 2: free passages into the kingdom. I have to submit. I
- 36:27Speaker 2: have to be obedient as well to the word. In fact,
- 36:33Speaker 2: representing God publicly should make us more careful, not careless.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I had a strict warning when I fell into compromise.
- 36:44Speaker 2: God warned me he was getting ready to kill me, beloved.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Because he brought me in front of a lot of people.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Club His Hop impacted a lot of people because God
- 36:59Speaker 2: cares for his sheep. He will protect his sheep. I
- 37:03Speaker 2: was on my way out. And I believe this is
- 37:08Speaker 2: probably the first time I really shared this. I actually
- 37:13Speaker 2: went to the hospital. I had something going on in
- 37:16Speaker 2: my stomach to where I could not keep down food.
- 37:18Speaker 2: And I had got like real skinny. I remember I
- 37:25Speaker 2: tried to drink a Slurpee just to put something in
- 37:28Speaker 2: my stomach. It was a red Slurpee. And I was
- 37:32Speaker 2: at work. I was in my work truck and I
- 37:34Speaker 2: have a white uniform that I wear. And immediately just
- 37:40Speaker 2: a little Slurpee. I threw it up. I couldn't like
- 37:46Speaker 2: get to a bathroom like it was right there while
- 37:48Speaker 2: I was driving. So in my driver's seat, all over
- 37:52Speaker 2: my clothes, my white uniform, my pants was red. And
- 37:58Speaker 2: I had to go to one of our facilities where
- 38:00Speaker 2: I knew where I could get water and wash it out,
- 38:04Speaker 2: get a water hose. I had to wash out my
- 38:05Speaker 2: passenger seat and had to rush to work. and go
- 38:10Speaker 2: to the locker room and change my clothes. By the
- 38:15Speaker 2: grace of God, no one saw that I was, you know,
- 38:17Speaker 2: working by myself that day, but that's how serious I
- 38:21Speaker 2: was on my way out, beloved. God does not play.
- 38:31Speaker 2: He will protect his sheep. I'm thankful I had a
- 38:34Speaker 2: chance to repent and to get it right. And that
- 38:39Speaker 2: I'm still here with you today. But we cannot play
- 38:43Speaker 2: with God. I knew exactly what was going on. He
- 38:47Speaker 2: told me what what he would do if I compromised.
- 38:53Speaker 2: And so that is some of the reason or maybe
- 38:57Speaker 2: even the reason why I lost the club. I mean, yeah,
- 39:01Speaker 2: my partner stole from me, but I also fell into
- 39:05Speaker 2: compromise myself. So that's why I need to. I want
- 39:11Speaker 2: to write a book to share my whole testimony and
- 39:16Speaker 2: to share my whole story. But this is I'm speaking
- 39:19Speaker 2: from experience. This is no joke to play games with God. Right.
- 39:30Speaker 2: so for those who are using and not using but
- 39:36Speaker 2: those of us who are in ministry we need to
- 39:39Speaker 2: examine our motives we are serving the true and living
- 39:45Speaker 2: God are we trying to honor him Or are we
- 39:49Speaker 2: using ministry to build our own name? Are we teaching
- 39:55Speaker 2: people to depend on God's word or are we demanding
- 40:00Speaker 2: that they depend on us? Amen, beloved. That's why on
- 40:08Speaker 2: this podcast, Jesus is the star, not me. So the Lord,
- 40:18Speaker 2: he sees beyond a public image. He knows what is
- 40:22Speaker 2: happening in our hearts as we serve him. Verse 40.
- 40:25Speaker 2: The final verse in this chapter. An everlasting reproach. Now,
- 40:40Speaker 2: this is also serious, too. So God concludes this warning
- 40:48Speaker 2: by describing lasting shame and disgrace. So the prophets who
- 41:02Speaker 2: dishonored his message would not escape the consequences of their actions,
- 41:10Speaker 2: their position, and religious claim would not erase their responsibility
- 41:18Speaker 2: for misleading others. The sad part about it is other
- 41:23Speaker 2: people got judged because of their rebellion. Now, the final
- 41:32Speaker 2: verse reminds us that our choices can have consequences far
- 41:38Speaker 2: beyond the moment in which we make them we can
- 41:45Speaker 2: make a choice today that could affect us the rest
- 41:50Speaker 2: of our lives by the grace of God I never
- 41:54Speaker 2: I could have I was a candidate the way I
- 42:00Speaker 2: was going and the sin that I was involved in
- 42:03Speaker 2: which was sexual sin and back in the 80s and
- 42:07Speaker 2: 90s when AIDS was rampant I praised God that I
- 42:12Speaker 2: never got a disease that was uncurable. I could have
- 42:15Speaker 2: gotten herpes. I could have gotten a lot of things,
- 42:20Speaker 2: but God's grace was there to cover me. So a
- 42:28Speaker 2: careless statement from someone with influence can confuse people about God.
- 42:34Speaker 2: So we have to be careful.
- 42:37Speaker 3: False.
- 42:38Speaker 5: False.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Teaching can lead people into destructive decisions. So when we
- 42:45Speaker 2: manipulate scripture, we can damage trust and make it harder
- 42:52Speaker 2: for people to recognize the truth. I still struggle today
- 43:01Speaker 2: with pastors sometimes. Like I want to submit to my pastor,
- 43:05Speaker 2: but I definitely don't want to get caught up where
- 43:08Speaker 2: I'm controlled by another pastor like before. Amen. Keep me
- 43:15Speaker 2: in prayer, beloved. So this is especially important for today, right?
- 43:27Speaker 2: Where sermons and live streams and short videos and social
- 43:32Speaker 2: media clips can reach thousands of Of people almost instantly.
- 43:37Speaker 2: We have to be careful. About what we teach. And
- 43:42Speaker 2: the things that we share. Before. We post in a
- 43:47Speaker 2: preacher's clip. Check whether it. Represents scripture accurately. Before making
- 43:54Speaker 2: a strong claim. About God. Or what he said. Examine it.
- 44:05Speaker 2: And before criticizing somebody else's interpretation, make sure you have
- 44:12Speaker 2: the correct understanding yourself. And also, if you discover that
- 44:19Speaker 2: you were wrong, acknowledge it, correct it publicly, record it, repent,
- 44:28Speaker 2: or necessarily go back to the people and say, hey,
- 44:32Speaker 2: this was wrong. I misquoted this. God knows we're not perfect.
- 44:42Speaker 2: But the goal is not to protect our pride, but
- 44:44Speaker 2: the goal is to honor God in all that we do.
- 44:48Speaker 2: We will all answer to the Lord for how we live.
- 44:57Speaker 2: And those who teach others carry a particular responsibility to
- 45:05Speaker 2: handle his word faithfully. So, as we examine this chapter,
- 45:19Speaker 2: as we close it out, I believe the big lesson
- 45:24Speaker 2: is to handle God's word faithfully. God takes the faithful
- 45:33Speaker 2: handling of his word seriously, right? Now, here are three
- 45:38Speaker 2: things you should take away from this episode. Never twist God.
- 45:44Speaker 2: the scriptures to fit our own agenda so we don't
- 45:51Speaker 2: get to change God's truth because it makes us uncomfortable
- 45:57Speaker 2: or because it challenges something we want to do we
- 46:03Speaker 2: must allow scripture to examine us instead of forcing scripture
- 46:10Speaker 2: to agree with us Number two, test what you hear
- 46:18Speaker 2: against the Bible. Don't just blindly follow a person because
- 46:27Speaker 2: they're popular or they may be entertaining to you or
- 46:33Speaker 2: even persuasive or even they have an influence. They may
- 46:40Speaker 2: be a social media influencer. No, you need to read
- 46:46Speaker 2: the passages, examine the context, compare the teaching with also
- 46:55Speaker 2: the rest of the scriptures, reference other scriptures on that topic.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Number three, be accountable for what you say in God's name.
- 47:06Speaker 2: If you teach, preach, counsel, influence others, if you are
- 47:12Speaker 2: an artist, if you're a pastor, a teacher, whatever you're
- 47:17Speaker 2: doing in God's name, remember your words matter. Don't just
- 47:23Speaker 2: use God told me or God said to control other people.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Make your personal preference sound like a personal preference and
- 47:35Speaker 2: not a commandment from God. We don't realize how much
- 47:43Speaker 2: influence we have over people when we are in these
- 47:48Speaker 2: type of positions. I remember as a young convert, I
- 47:53Speaker 2: thought my pastor, I thought every word he spoke was
- 47:56Speaker 2: from heaven. Like that's how much influence he had on me.
- 48:00Speaker 2: That's why he was able to get me to do
- 48:05Speaker 2: something I otherwise would not have done. Don't use God
- 48:22Speaker 2: as the authority behind your personal preference to make your
- 48:35Speaker 2: opinion sound like a commandment from the Lord. So all
- 48:41Speaker 2: these warnings apply to us today. We may not be prophets.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Jeremiah's day, but we can still misinterpret God's word if
- 48:53Speaker 2: we speak the word carelessly. That's why we need to
- 48:58Speaker 2: study to show ourselves approved. We need to focus and
- 49:03Speaker 2: we need to get the correct understanding ourselves. Amen. All right, beloved.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Let's take a break.

- 54:42Speaker 2: hold and make sure it is grounded by scripture. So
- 54:52Speaker 2: you can choose one teaching, one opinion, or a spiritual
- 54:56Speaker 2: claim that you have accepted. Read the relevant Bible passage.
- 55:03Speaker 2: Read it all in context and ask yourself, does scripture
- 55:08Speaker 2: actually teach this? Or am I understanding the passage in
- 55:15Speaker 2: its proper context? Have I accepted this belief because it
- 55:22Speaker 2: is biblical or because it is what I want to hear?
- 55:27Speaker 2: Then ask yourself, if I discover that I am wrong,
- 55:32Speaker 2: am I willing to change my opinion? Amen. That would
- 55:37Speaker 2: be a healthy way to approach God's word. Because remember,
- 55:42Speaker 2: we cannot put stock in our own hearts. We cannot
- 55:47Speaker 2: follow the dictates of our own hearts. We need to

- 1:01:33Speaker 2: We must not twist scripture to support our preferences. Use
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: God's name to give our opinions false authority or Follow
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: teachers without examining what they actually teach. But these passages
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: is not an invitation to become arrogant or to believe
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: that we are the only ones who understand the Bible either.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: This is a call to humility. Beloved, we Should approach
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: scripture ready to learn. Ready to be corrected. And ready
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: to obey.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: So.
