- 0:00Speaker 1: Women have always been looked at as the weaker sex,
- 0:03Speaker 1: in movies, in television, and in life. But not in
- 0:07Speaker 1: this retelling of the classic tale. Welcome to Little Red
- 0:13Speaker 1: Riding Hood. Little Red Riding Hood Draped over her crimson
- 0:23Speaker 1: cloak was the shell of the monster. its weight serving
- 0:26Speaker 1: as proof that she was never just quite who they
- 0:29Speaker 1: thought she was. With the village in a stir, Sarah
- 0:36Speaker 1: watched her mother's face closely. The worry lines grew deeper
- 0:40Speaker 1: on the evenings her brother set off on the foot hunt.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Each unsuccessful night bled into another. The confidence the men
- 0:48Speaker 1: in town had about catching the monster had started to wane.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Sarah stood in the doorframe, watching her brother catch up
- 0:55Speaker 1: with the other men and their weapons of choice. As
- 0:58Speaker 1: darkness hazed over, her mind got to work, conjuring up
- 1:02Speaker 1: her own plan of attack.' Come inside, Sarah,' her mother called,
- 1:07Speaker 1: voice pricked with a sternness Sarah didn't like. That tone
- 1:11Speaker 1: started around the same time the second girl went missing.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Her mother's worrying manifested in harsh overprotection. With her eyes
- 1:20Speaker 1: drifting to the edge of the village where the cobblestone
- 1:23Speaker 1: paths blended into the dark trees, Sarah watched. The monster
- 1:27Speaker 1: responsible was in that darkness, using it as his playground
- 1:32Speaker 1: to slay. Sarah jumped when her mother's hands gripped the
- 1:36Speaker 1: caps of her shoulders and pulled her back inside. It's dark, Sarah.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I want to hunt with them. The perplexed look on
- 1:44Speaker 1: her mother's face told Sarah a lecture was coming. Quit
- 1:48Speaker 1: saying that. Young ladies do not hunt, she scoffed. All
- 1:52Speaker 1: of the disappearances have been young girls your age. All
- 1:55Speaker 1: six of them. Sarah didn't need her mother's reminding of
- 1:59Speaker 1: what she already knew. The idea that she was the
- 2:03Speaker 1: monster's ideal prey ignited a fire in her. One that
- 2:08Speaker 1: the men fighting this battle didn't have. But if her
- 2:11Speaker 1: mother felt so strongly about her desire to join the hunt,
- 2:15Speaker 1: then what would those men think? They'd laugh at her.
- 2:18Speaker 1: probably think that there was something wrong with her. As
- 2:21Speaker 1: the night drew on, Sarah lay in her bed with
- 2:23Speaker 1: her eyes glued to the full moon peeking through the window.
- 2:27Speaker 1: It cast light over the forest, the dancing trees throwing
- 2:31Speaker 1: shadows on the wall. She listened for something. Anything. A
- 2:36Speaker 1: cry from a girl. A cry from the monster. When
- 2:40Speaker 1: she closed her eyes, She thought of everything she would
- 2:43Speaker 1: do if she were the huntress. Running through the dark forest,
- 2:47Speaker 1: under the moonlight, in misty night air. Her red cloak
- 2:51Speaker 1: rippling behind her. She would do what they couldn't do
- 2:54Speaker 1: to that monster. Befriend him. Sarah thought of the whispered
- 3:00Speaker 1: rumors she overheard as she moved through the town, tuxed
- 3:03Speaker 1: against her mother's side. She heard the theories that her
- 3:06Speaker 1: brother relayed to their mother. One thing was for sure.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Nobody knew what they were hunting for. Some said the
- 3:14Speaker 1: monster was human. Only something with that skilled intelligence could
- 3:18Speaker 1: act so methodically. Others thought the opposite, that only a
- 3:23Speaker 1: beast would know how to hunt with such unmatched precision.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Either way, its power scared Sarah. She was exactly what
- 3:31Speaker 1: the beast wanted. Yet, what better person to lure the
- 3:35Speaker 1: monster out of its lair? The next morning, Sarah played
- 3:39Speaker 1: her visions of wandering into the forest, how satisfying it
- 3:43Speaker 1: would be to return to the village with the kill
- 3:46Speaker 1: under her belt. Maybe then her mother and brother would
- 3:49Speaker 1: take her seriously, and then maybe some would no longer
- 3:53Speaker 1: underestimate the power that a young girl has. All that
- 3:57Speaker 1: stood between her and the forest was the tiny window
- 4:01Speaker 1: facing the woods, where the rain trickled in and the
- 4:04Speaker 1: smell of burning wood escaped. Sarah planned to emerge from
- 4:08Speaker 1: that window when she heard her brother returning home in
- 4:11Speaker 1: the night, even if only for just a peek. Sarah
- 4:15Speaker 1: helped her mother in the kitchen, preparing food and aiding
- 4:18Speaker 1: in the fire. She held back her questions about the monster.
- 4:22Speaker 1: It wasn't something anyone wanted to talk about or imagine,
- 4:27Speaker 1: leaving Sarah the odd one out. Staying quiet helped keep
- 4:31Speaker 1: her plan a secret. There wasn't much of a point
- 4:34Speaker 1: in sleeping, and even if Sarah tried, her nerves were
- 4:37Speaker 1: buzzing too fast to let her. She counted the breaths
- 4:41Speaker 1: of her sleeping mother and the footsteps of her brother
- 4:44Speaker 1: as he entered the home. His sigh of defeat told
- 4:47Speaker 1: her that the monster was not caught, and no girls
- 4:50Speaker 1: were recovered. They were all living the same day over
- 4:54Speaker 1: and over. Once it was silent, Sarah hoisted herself up
- 4:58Speaker 1: to the window. Everything would change if she disappeared into
- 5:02Speaker 1: the night. And that's exactly why she needed to do it.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Sarah's inner huntress was ready to debut. The back of
- 5:11Speaker 1: her throat burned and the space between her ribs pounded
- 5:14Speaker 1: as Sarah ran. All that held her face was the
- 5:17Speaker 1: red hood draped, concealing who she was. Still, she knew
- 5:21Speaker 1: her monster could smell her out. Man or beast, the
- 5:25Speaker 1: scent of vulnerable prey wouldn't go unnoticed. She ran into
- 5:29Speaker 1: the woods. Trees whizzing past her, leaves rustling beneath her feet,
- 5:34Speaker 1: unsure of what to look for. Sarah continued to run,
- 5:39Speaker 1: letting the forest encompass her until she found something. Or
- 5:43Speaker 1: something found her. The leaves hanging on the trees and
- 5:47Speaker 1: patches of grass grew dewy as dawn approached. It was
- 5:51Speaker 1: only an assumption that her monster thrived in the night.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Perhaps he was different in that way. Not the kind
- 5:57Speaker 1: of monster who hides in the darkness, but one who
- 6:00Speaker 1: actually lurks in the daylight, blending in with those around
- 6:03Speaker 1: him and amongst his hunters in secret. Sarah wandered the
- 6:08Speaker 1: forest as the chirps of crickets faded into those of songbirds.
- 6:13Speaker 1: She told herself she was only going to go into
- 6:15Speaker 1: the forest for a peek, but something told her to stay.
- 6:19Speaker 1: The forest's daylight broke. and in the morning the fog lifted.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Her strength grew more and more as she became acquainted
- 6:26Speaker 1: with the greenery. Now would be the time her mother
- 6:30Speaker 1: rose to wake her for the day, but Sarah could
- 6:32Speaker 1: only hope her mother would dig deeper than assuming her
- 6:35Speaker 1: daughter was stolen by the village predator. If her mother
- 6:38Speaker 1: really knew her, really listened to her, she would know
- 6:43Speaker 1: what she was doing. The canopy of trees offered up
- 6:47Speaker 1: plenty of shade once the sun rose overhead. Sarah's eyes
- 6:51Speaker 1: were peeled as she scanned the layers of the forest.
- 6:54Speaker 1: She searched in the soft dirt for fresh footprints, the
- 6:58Speaker 1: hollowed holes in the tree trunks for eyes, and over
- 7:01Speaker 1: her shoulder for any followers. While nothing presented itself to her,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Sarah knew she was being watched. She could feel a
- 7:10Speaker 1: distant gaze on her, nearly swearing there was a strong
- 7:14Speaker 1: heat lurking behind her and hot on her heels. but
- 7:18Speaker 1: every whip over her shoulder only reflected her own path.
- 7:23Speaker 1: There wasn't much of a pull to return to the
- 7:26Speaker 1: village empty-handed, the same way all the hunting men had.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Sarah wanted to stay until she had a chance to
- 7:33Speaker 1: prove herself to the unknown beast. The comments from her
- 7:37Speaker 1: mother swirled around her, telling her what young ladies did
- 7:41Speaker 1: and didn't do. She wouldn't forget the scowls from people
- 7:44Speaker 1: around the village when she brought up the disappearances. or
- 7:47Speaker 1: the monster. Everyone looked at her as a weak girl
- 7:51Speaker 1: who was being impolite for asking questions or saying she
- 7:55Speaker 1: thought she might be able to catch him. Sarah was
- 7:58Speaker 1: looked down on, and very little could make that go away.
- 8:02Speaker 1: All she could do was prove them wrong. Roaming through
- 8:06Speaker 1: the woods until sunset gave Sarah a ripple of anticipation.
- 8:10Speaker 1: If she didn't meet her monster in the daylight, would
- 8:13Speaker 1: she at night? She could feel it. He was watching
- 8:17Speaker 1: her and planning his attack. Unlike the men around and
- 8:21Speaker 1: outnumbering him, he didn't need to hide from Sarah. It
- 8:26Speaker 1: was hardly dark enough when a rustling of trees caught
- 8:29Speaker 1: her attention. She stopped in her tracks, observing the sound
- 8:33Speaker 1: of digging and clawing coming from inside one of the
- 8:37Speaker 1: spots of the trees. Sarah's heartbeat raced, sending the same
- 8:42Speaker 1: buzz of nervous excitement as the night before. Instead of
- 8:47Speaker 1: fleeing from danger, Sarah inched towards it. She couldn't see
- 8:51Speaker 1: anything at first, just the movement of the layers of trees.
- 8:57Speaker 1: But then it came into focus, the pair of yellow
- 9:01Speaker 1: eyes piercing a hole to her in its stare. Sarah
- 9:05Speaker 1: jumped back and caught herself. Hello, she said. She would
- 9:10Speaker 1: draw him out with a voice as sweet as honey.
- 9:14Speaker 1: The eyes stared back at her and remained hidden in
- 9:16Speaker 1: the shrubbery. The glow looked unnatural. Her breath quickened as
- 9:21Speaker 1: she watched, unsure exactly how the beast would reveal itself.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But Sarah wouldn't let the unknown change what she came
- 9:28Speaker 1: in the forest to do. Instead, she watched the beast
- 9:32Speaker 1: in the darkness, watching its hungry, vengeful glare. The next
- 9:37Speaker 1: move was his. Unsure of how much time was passing,
- 9:41Speaker 1: Sarah broke her stare, and looked around for signs of
- 9:44Speaker 1: the other missing girls. What might be left behind of
- 9:48Speaker 1: the six of them? A dress and shoes? But there
- 9:53Speaker 1: wasn't anything to hint this monster left items behind to
- 9:56Speaker 1: tell his tale. That meant if Sarah failed her mission...
- 10:00Speaker 1: no trace of her would be left behind either. Twigs
- 10:03Speaker 1: snapped with each of their moves, and Sarah heard the
- 10:06Speaker 1: monster's mouth peel open to reveal rows of thick teeth.
- 10:11Speaker 1: A snarl grew from the depths of the beast and
- 10:13Speaker 1: filled the space between him and Sarah. She backed away
- 10:17Speaker 1: without shifting her eyes away. I've wanted to meet you.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Her voice was small, despite her attempt to make it
- 10:25Speaker 1: sound stronger. Sarah's method wasn't to approach the beast by
- 10:29Speaker 1: overpowering him. She would deliver him trust and openness, letting
- 10:34Speaker 1: him think that he was the one that held the power.
- 10:38Speaker 1: He would see her the way the rest of the
- 10:40Speaker 1: world did. the naive, powerless girl with no business being
- 10:45Speaker 1: a huntress. The beast moved out of the trees, lurching
- 10:49Speaker 1: at Sarah in one swift motion, but Sarah dodged the
- 10:52Speaker 1: attack as she jumped away from him. She watched him
- 10:55Speaker 1: carefully with a sad look. You don't want to be friends?
- 11:00Speaker 1: she asked. The monster's yellow eyes narrowed and the glow
- 11:04Speaker 1: started to soften. The snarl was no longer there, but
- 11:08Speaker 1: the danger persisted. Sarah knew she would have to take
- 11:11Speaker 1: him by surprise. Playing as his interested friend would be
- 11:16Speaker 1: a start. Do you live here? She asked him, looking
- 11:21Speaker 1: up at the freshly dark sky. The moon shone through
- 11:24Speaker 1: the trees and offered her enough light to see her surroundings.
- 11:28Speaker 1: She took her time looking at the monster and could
- 11:31Speaker 1: feel his eyes watching her every move. He swiped at
- 11:34Speaker 1: her cloak and tore off the edge of the back
- 11:37Speaker 1: that trailed behind her as she moved through the world.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Sarah retaliated and lunged at the monster. Her niceness was over.
- 11:45Speaker 1: The tackle sent him to the ground and Sarah's nerves buzzed.
- 11:48Speaker 1: She pinned him to the ground with the weight of
- 11:50Speaker 1: her body and watched him thrash beneath her. Guttural growls
- 11:55Speaker 1: plummeted from him as Sarah stared into those glowing eyes.
- 11:59Speaker 1: She could see what he was made of. He preyed
- 12:02Speaker 1: on those who he thought were the weakest, but he
- 12:04Speaker 1: was mistaken to think that she was the same. The
- 12:08Speaker 1: nails of the beast broke the delicate skin of her wrist.
- 12:12Speaker 1: The slice burned, yet hardly compared to the burn she
- 12:15Speaker 1: had in her soul to prove to everyone that they
- 12:18Speaker 1: were wrong without question. Sarah drove her thumbs into the
- 12:23Speaker 1: throat of the beast. The pressure muffled the grunts and
- 12:26Speaker 1: the thrashing of the body slowed. She held on as
- 12:29Speaker 1: she waited for the thrashing to end. She didn't meet
- 12:33Speaker 1: him with fear or aggression the way others had. both
- 12:37Speaker 1: victims and hunters. Her monster bucked up one last time
- 12:41Speaker 1: beneath her, and his body weakened to a stop. It
- 12:45Speaker 1: wasn't the gruesome overhaul the men had in mind. Sarah
- 12:50Speaker 1: did it her own way. Using all her strength, she
- 12:53Speaker 1: lifted the monster up from the forest floor. Dirt crumbled
- 12:57Speaker 1: off him and stained her crimson cloak. Sarah didn't dare
- 13:01Speaker 1: leave him behind to be found, and claimed by the
- 13:04Speaker 1: men of her village as their prize. His weight pressed
- 13:08Speaker 1: hard on her shoulders, but she stood tall. With each
- 13:12Speaker 1: stride forward towards the line of the forest where her
- 13:15Speaker 1: village began, uncertain who might be waiting for her, she rushed.
- 13:20Speaker 1: The cold night air failed to cool the boiling of
- 13:23Speaker 1: her blood as she approached the distinguishing line of nature
- 13:27Speaker 1: and civilization. Sarah emerged from the dark forest, a thick
- 13:32Speaker 1: mist surrounding her as the monster hung over her shoulders
- 13:36Speaker 1: like an accessory. She saw the torches first. Their flames
- 13:41Speaker 1: flickered and led her towards home. A small crowd had gathered,
- 13:46Speaker 1: no longer just the men serving as hunters in the night.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Men and women watched her break free from the depths
- 13:53Speaker 1: of the trees, the beast on her back. Silence overtook them,
- 13:59Speaker 1: further showing Sarah how different she was now. She received
- 14:03Speaker 1: looks of shock and awe. but the men would have
- 14:07Speaker 1: received a roar of praise if they arrived at the
- 14:10Speaker 1: beast on their backs. Sarah planted her feet in the dirt.
- 14:15Speaker 1: The young girl everyone overlooked and underestimated was carrying the
- 14:19Speaker 1: weight of the tamed evil on her shoulders. The silence
- 14:24Speaker 1: of the crowd was deafening, and in one swift motion,
- 14:27Speaker 1: Sarah dropped the beast onto the ground. The End Thank you.
