The Great Epstein Runaround: Hearings, Transcripts, and Institutional Fog (6/24/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
0:03
Epstein Chronicles. When the Congressional Overside Committee was first announced
0:10
and we heard that they were going to be looking
0:12
into Jeffrey Epstein, I knew not to expect much. But
0:16
what we've gotten from this committee has been an absolute joke.
0:20
And if it wasn't for the discharge petition, we'd have
0:24
none of this. So in this episode, I'm gonna let
0:28
you know what I think about this Congressional Overside Committee
0:33
and its performance. Up until now, the Congressional Oversight operation
0:38
around Jeffrey Epstein has become a disgusting civic performance masquerading
0:44
as accountability. Now, make no mistake, it has all the
0:47
trappings of seriousness, all the language of transparency, and all
0:51
the ceremonial furniture of an investigation. There are letters, transcripts,
0:56
a poenas, interviews, statements, referrals, press releases, and solemn promises
1:01
about following the facts. Yet when you strip away the
1:05
stage dressing, what remains is a body that looks far
1:09
more interested in managing public anger than exposing institutional failure.
1:14
That's the real insult here. Americans aren't asking Congress for
1:18
another theatrical exercise in controlled outrage. They're asking for answers
1:23
about how Jeffrey Epstein operated for decades, who enabled them,
1:27
who protected them, and why the machinery of government repeatedly
1:31
failed as victims. Instead, the public gets a slow motion
1:34
maze built out a procedure delay, selective disclosure, and strategic amnesia.
1:40
And for me, one of the most defensive parts is
1:43
how familiar the trick has become. Washington creates a committee,
1:47
gives it an important sounding mandate, lets members make stern
1:51
faces for the camera, and then quietly designs the process
1:56
so it can never truly bite. That's how a scandal
1:59
gets buried without looking buried. You don't have to announce
2:03
the cover up when you can simply proceduralize it to death.
2:06
You hold the important conversations behind closed doors. You accept
2:10
voluntary appearances when compulsory testimony is available. You release transcripts
2:16
after the heat has been managed. You allow witnesses to dodge, dilute, forget, deflect,
2:22
and lawyer their way through the most basic questions. Then
2:26
you tell the country that the system is working because
2:29
somebody somewhere sat in a room and said some words
2:32
into a recorder. That shit's garbage, and everybody watching closely
2:37
knows it. Congress has the tools when it wants to
2:42
use them. It can subpoena witnesses, place them under oath,
2:45
conduct depositions, demand answers, refer contempt, and build a record
2:50
that makes lying dangerous. It doesn't mean that every lie
2:53
is easy to prosecute, and it does not mean that
2:56
every evasive answer becomes a criminal case. But the point
3:00
is not merely a prosecution after the fact. The point
3:04
is pressure before the testimony begins. When a witness knows
3:08
the committee is serious, the calculus changes. When a witness
3:12
knows the committee is soft, the fog rolls in. In
3:15
the Epstein matter, far too many witnesses appear to understand
3:18
that fog is not a hazard to the process. It
3:21
is the process. This is why voluntary testimony is such
3:26
a poison pill and a scandal of this magnitude. A
3:29
voluntary interview may be useful in a routine oversite matter,
3:33
but this is not a routine oversite matter. This is
3:37
Jeffrey Epstein. This is a decade long scandal involving federal prosecutors,
3:43
JEIL officials, intelligence, adjacent speculation, financial institutions, elite social circles,
3:49
non prosecution agreements, victim betrayal, and repeated institutional cowardice. In
3:56
that environment, voluntary testimony is not transparency. It's a courtesy
4:01
extended to people who should not be receiving courtesies. It
4:05
tells the witness that Congress is more interested in cooperation
4:08
optics than truth extraction. And it tells the public that
4:13
the Committee wants an appearance, not a confrontation. And it
4:17
tells every lawyer in the room that the escape routes
4:20
are open. There's a massive difference between sworn deposition and
4:24
transcribed interview that lets the witness preserve maximum maneuvering room.
4:29
A deposition carries weight because it's formal, compelled, structured, and
4:34
dangerous to abuse. A transcribed interview can look impressive on
4:39
paper while at the same time functioning like a padded
4:42
cell for accountability. The transcript exists, but the fear often
4:46
does not. The questions are asked, but the witness can
4:49
still dance. Other records created, but the leverage is weaker.
4:53
When Congress waters down the format, Congress waters down the truth.
4:58
When Congress waters down the truth, Congress becomes part of
5:02
the laundering operation. That's the dirty little secret that's hiding
5:06
in plain sight. And the closed door nature of so
5:09
many of these proceedings is another insult piled onto the first.
5:13
Closed door sessions can be justified in narrow circumstances, especially
5:17
when victim privacy, classified material, or active investigations are genuinely
5:23
at issue. Nobody serious wants survivors exposed, miners, identified or
5:28
sensitive material recklessly dumped into the public domain. But that
5:33
legitimate concern has been used again and again in the
5:36
Epstein saga as a blanket excuse for secrecy. Protecting victims
5:41
should mean redacting victim identifying information, not shielding powerful people
5:46
from public scrutiny. It should mean careful disclosure, not institutional darkness. Now,
5:53
the public doesn't need every graphic detail to understand whether
5:56
witnesses are answering questions. Honestly, the public does need to
6:00
see whether the people in charge are asking the right
6:03
questions at all. Look behind closed doors. Tone disappears, pressure disappears,
6:10
demeanor disappears. The public can see the hesitation, the contempt,
6:14
the rehearse confusion, or the moments when a witness suddenly
6:18
remembers how not to Remember, a transcript is not the
6:22
same thing as testimony seen in real time. A transcript
6:26
is a sanitized fossil of an event the public was
6:29
not allowed to witness. It tells you what was said,
6:32
but not fully howell was said. It can preserve words
6:37
while draining the moment of its force. That matters in
6:40
a scandal built on a lead evasion. The Epstein story
6:44
has always depended on powerful people benefiting from distance, ambiguity,
6:49
and insolation. Closed door testimony gives them all three. Now.
6:55
Of course, the committee's defenders will say that the transcripts
6:57
are released and that this proves transparent. That's nonsense. A
7:02
delayed transcript is not the same as open accountability. A
7:05
transcript released after the narrative has already been massaged does
7:09
not carry the same democratic force as public testimony. It
7:14
lets politicians cherry pick lines, witnesses prepare spin, and media
7:19
cycles move on before citizens can digest what actually happened.
7:24
It allows the committee to claim disclosure while controlling tempo.
7:28
It allows the machinery of Washington to turn urgency into paperwork.
7:33
That is exactly how outrage gets neutralized. By the time
7:37
the public sees the record, the people responsible have already
7:40
moved to the next talking point. Transparency delayed can become
7:45
transparency denied and real talk. The hearings and interviews have
7:50
led the country in circles, because circles are useful to
7:53
the people who manage the scandal. One witness points to another,
7:58
one agency points to another office. One official says they
8:02
delegated the work. Another says the files were handled by reviewers.
8:07
Another says they don't recall. Another says that decision was
8:12
above their level. Another says the answer is somewhere in
8:15
a document dump. Nobody can realistically process round and round
8:19
it goes until the public is exhausted. That's not an
8:23
accident of complexity. It is exactly how bureaucratic self protection works.
8:29
Look the Epstein case is already complicated enough without Congress
8:34
making it more opaque. There are multiple jurisdictions, multiple prosecutions,
8:39
civil settlements, sealed materials, redactions, victim protection issues, and institutional
8:45
failures stretching across years. Serious oversight would impose order on
8:50
that chaos. It would identify decision points, name decision makers,
8:55
and force witnesses to explain who did what, when and why. Instead,
8:59
the process keeps producing fog where there should be timelines,
9:04
It keeps producing referrals where there should be findings, It
9:07
keeps producing interviews where there should be sworn at the
9:11
serial public accountability. That's not the behavior of a committee
9:15
determined to get the bottom of the matter. That's the
9:18
behavior of a committee determined to survive the matter. And
9:22
I think that James Comer sits at the center of
9:24
this because he chairs the committee and controls much of
9:27
the machinery. Now that doesn't mean that every failure belongs
9:31
to him alone, because Congress is full of cowards, opportunists,
9:35
staff games, leadership pressure, and partisan calculation. But chairmanship is
9:41
not a decoration. It's power, its responsibility. It's the ability
9:46
to decide whether the committee acts like an investigator or
9:50
a receptionist. When the committee softens formats, tolerate secrecy, accepts deflection,
9:56
and lets major witnesses avoid the harshest available setting, that
10:01
reflects on the leadership. Comer can't take credit for the
10:04
investigation when it produces headlines and then hide behind procedure
10:08
when it produces nothing. If he owns the show, my
10:12
man owns the circus, and the discharge petition is what
10:16
exposed the game. Before that pressure campaign, the Epstein story
10:20
could be managed through slow releases, selective outrage, and control
10:24
committee activity. The petition disrupted that comfort zone because it
10:29
threatened to move the fight outside the leadership's grip. That's
10:33
why it mattered. It was a public admission that normal
10:37
channels were not trusted to deliver. When members have to
10:41
go around leadership to force votes on transparency, that tells
10:44
you something rotten has already happened. It tells you the
10:47
official process is not enough, and it tells you that
10:51
the gatekeepers are part of the problem. Once the discharge
10:55
petition gained traction, the committee's role became even more suspect. Suddenly,
11:00
oversight had every incentive to look busy enough to blunt
11:03
momentum while not being aggressive enough to truly detonate the story.
11:08
That's the sweet spot of institutional cover. Do enough to
11:12
say you're doing something, don't do enough to actually change anything.
11:16
Release enough paper to overwhelm the public. Do not release
11:20
enough clarity to indict the system. Call enough witnesses to
11:23
create the appearance of movement. Do not structure the testimony
11:27
in a way that makes evasion costly. That's why the
11:30
Committee feels toothless. It's not because Congress lacks teeth. It's
11:34
because the teeth are kept in a drawer. The rules exist,
11:38
the subpoena power exists, the contempt power exists. The ability
11:43
to conduct sworn depositions exists. The ability to make public
11:48
accountability unavoidable exists. Yet the Epstein Probe keeps drifting toward
11:54
formats that reduce pressure and preserve plausible deniability. And I
12:01
think the most disgusting part is the survivors are once
12:03
again being used as moral wallpaper. Their suffering is invoked
12:08
whenever Congress needs emotional gravity. Their names are cited when
12:12
members want to sound serious. Their pain is used to
12:16
justify secrecy, delay, caution, and careful handling. But when it
12:20
comes time to actually confront the institutions at Feldom, the
12:24
same political class suddenly becomes timid. Protecting survivors should never
12:29
become a shield for protecting powerful men, fail prosecutors, compromised institutions,
12:34
or political allies. The survivors have already paid the price
12:40
for elite comfort. They shouldn't be forced to pay it
12:43
again through congressional cowardice. And the Committee loves to say
12:46
that it's not law enforcement. Fine, nobody's asking Congress to
12:50
pretend it can prosecute crimes from the bench. But oversight
12:54
is not supposed to be passive stenography either. Congress is
12:58
supposed to expose failures, compelled to testimony, demand records, identify contradictions,
13:03
refer wrongdoing, and legislate from a real factual record. Saying
13:08
that we're not law enforcement cannot become an excuse for
13:10
acting like a helpless notary. If the committee received serious allegations,
13:15
it should refer them, yes, but it should also keep
13:18
digging into the systems that allow those allegations to remain
13:21
buried for so long. Otherwise the referral becomes another way
13:26
of just moving the ball out of sight. And this
13:29
is how cover ups function in respectable clothing. They don't
13:33
always look like shredded documents and midnight meetings. Sometimes they
13:37
look like jurisdictional confusion. Sometimes they look like overboard redactions.
13:42
Sometimes they look like a friendly interview format, and sometimes
13:46
they look like a chairman praising transparency while keeping the
13:49
public outside of the room. Other Times they look like
13:53
document themb so massive that accountability gets buried under volume.
13:57
Sometimes they look like witnesses saying I don't recall until
14:01
memory loss becomes the official language of power, And sometimes
14:05
they look like Congress, pretending that activity is the same
14:08
thing as progress. That is the Epstein oversight in a miniature,
14:13
and the public is sick of being told to accept
14:16
process in place of answers. People understand that not everything
14:19
can be released recklessly. People understand that victim privacy matters.
14:24
People understand that some legal lines are real. What they
14:27
do not accept is the endless weaponization of those concerns
14:31
to protect institutions from embarrassment. They don't accept being fed
14:36
another bowl of bureaucratic sludge and told its transparency. They
14:40
don't accept the same government that felled Epstein's victims now
14:44
claiming exclusive authority to decide what the public may know
14:47
about that failure. Trust isn't restored by telling citizens to
14:51
trust the very system under investigation. Trust is restored by
14:56
forcing that system into the light. Look, there's a reason
15:00
so many witnesses in scandals suddenly developed selective amnesia. Memory
15:05
loss is a lot safer than contradiction. Vagueness is safer
15:09
than admission. Delegation is safer than ownership. I do not
15:13
recall is much safer than I knew that was handled
15:17
by someone else. Is safer, then I made a decision.
15:21
A serious committee understands this, and structure is questioning to
15:25
close those exits. A compromised or cowardly committee leaves the
15:30
exits open. In the Epstein probe, too many exits remain open,
15:35
and that's why the public sees a maze instead of
15:37
a reckoning Colmer and the committee should be judged by results,
15:42
not rhetoric. Have they produced a clear map of who
15:45
protected Epstein? Have they forced full public accountability from the
15:49
officials who control the files? Have they explained the contradictions
15:54
in the government's handling of the case. Have they given
15:57
survivors confidence that the truth is finally being pursued without
16:01
fear or favor. Have they made lying of asion and
16:04
selective memory dangerous for witnesses? Have they exposed the machinery
16:09
or merely described the shadows? The answer so far is
16:13
not good enough, not even close. The committee has generated motion,
16:18
but motion is not justice. And I think in this instance,
16:22
the phrase it's the cover up stupid lands because it
16:25
captures the obvious thing Washington keeps trying to make complicated
16:29
The issue is not merely whether Epstein died by suicide,
16:33
whether one memo was incomplete, whether one official mishandled one release,
16:38
or whether one witness forgot one meeting. The issue is
16:43
the pattern. The pattern is delay, concealment, elite protection, institutional
16:48
self preservation, and public contempt. The pattern is powerful people
16:53
receiving process while ordinary people receive punishment. The pattern is
16:58
survivors being praised while systems that failed them remain intact.
17:03
The pattern is Congress turning oversight into theater and then
17:06
demanding applause. And that pattern deserves disgust, not patience. Look,
17:12
it's time to stop pretending this committee is some noble
17:15
searchlight cutting through the darkness. Right now, it looks more
17:18
like a wall. It absorbs public anger, slows momentum, controls
17:23
the release of information, and gives politicians something to point
17:26
to whenever citizens ask why the full truth has not arrived.
17:32
That wall may have windows, and every so often the
17:34
committee opens one, just enough to say it believes in transparency.
17:39
But a window is not demolition. The Epstein scandal does
17:43
not need more symbolic windows. It needs the whole ass
17:46
wall torn down. It needs sworn testimony, public accountability, real consequences,
17:52
and a committee willing to be feared by liars. And
17:55
until that happens, this is not oversight. It's the continuation
18:00
of the cover up, but this time by congressional means.
