- 0:00Host: Grab a pen, because this is a name that you're going to
- 0:02hear often in the next few years. His name is Peter Voogd,
- 0:11and he's a podcaster. He's the CEO of GameChangersmovement.com
- 0:20he first started in business at 15 years old. By age 22 he had
- 0:32the classic entrepreneur story just broke and stressed, but
- 0:45then in a year, a year later, he made a six figure income, and
- 1:09within three and a half years after that, he had made a
- 1:12combined total income of over $1 million. He now talks about
- 1:17that formula in Six Months to Six Figures. Peter, thanks for
- 1:22being here.
- 1:23Peter Voogd: Thank you for having me. And I'm excited to
- 1:25add as much value as I possibly can.
- 1:27Host: So I want to kind of zero in on the mental side of this,
- 1:31like breaking past that six figure mark. Do you agree that
- 1:34it's mostly a mental block?
- 1:36Peter Voogd: Oh, 100% I think, I mean 70 or 80% of it. I think
- 1:40it's mental, because I see people that have capacity and
- 1:43the skills to get the six figures, but they're stuck
- 1:45making 60 a year because they can't get past them at the
- 1:48block. So I fully agree. I think there's kind of two parts to it.
- 1:51I think one is they're living in the gap, which means the gap of
- 1:55where they want to go, which is 100k to where they are, maybe
- 1:58it's 50. They're living in wishing they made 100k thinking
- 2:02they can't make 100k and they're not appreciating and being
- 2:05grateful for where they already came and the progress they've
- 2:07made. So they're taking too much of a jump mentally, where it's
- 2:11almost like you get overwhelmed, and when you're overwhelmed, you
- 2:14seek distraction. So it's almost like a self fulfilling prophecy.
- 2:18If they don't feel like they have that could pass to your
- 2:20potential to make that 100k they're not going to take the
- 2:24right action. And when you don't take the right action, you get
- 2:26small results, and then they reinforce to themselves, yeah, I
- 2:30knew I couldn't make six figures, and it's an ongoing
- 2:32thing. Whereas the most successful people make a
- 2:36definite decision that they're going to make, that they put the
- 2:39steps in place and make a plan, and they take big action, and
- 2:43that big action produces bigger results, and then they reinforce
- 2:46themselves. I knew I could do this. That's the first part. Is
- 2:49that mental, that they live in that gap without actually having
- 2:53the right strategies and focusing on consistent progress.
- 2:57And I think they also compare themselves to others, which is
- 3:00definitely very miserable to do that. And the second thing is, I
- 3:03don't think the people that are around or their circle of
- 3:07influence is congruent to that. Whereas, if they're making 50k a
- 3:11year, their five best friends, if they add up the income of the
- 3:15people they hang out with the most, it probably averages
- 3:17between 50 and 60 a year. So for me, when I was broke, I remember
- 3:22hanging out with most of the people in my company, and they
- 3:25were struggling, and the sad thing is, they were okay with
- 3:27it. So I really I reevaluated and figured out, okay, if
- 3:31everyone I'm hanging out with this okay with mediocrity and
- 3:34doesn't have the standards I want to live, I need to shift my
- 3:37influence. So I think it's a mix between that living in the gap
- 3:40and then not having the right circle of influence to really
- 3:43pull them up to the higher standard of six figures. And I
- 3:47feel like if people are so focused on six figures that they
- 3:51forget that they need to make 70 and then 91st to make 100 it's
- 3:57going to get them demotivated. So when I was, for example, we
- 3:59wanted to go for I remember when I was new to direct sales, I
- 4:03wanted my office to shoot for a $40,000 week in sales. And in my
- 4:07mind, I'm like, I don't know how that's gonna happen, but I was
- 4:09dedicated to it, but I didn't know how it was gonna happen.
- 4:11And I would think in my head, oh, if I could just do 40 grand
- 4:14in a week, that is just, I would be on top of the world. Fast
- 4:18forward to the next summer, when we're doing 130k weeks, and I
- 4:23was mad if we didn't do 100 it's not that I totally changed
- 4:27atmospheres and environments and I had new people. No, it's just
- 4:30my capacity shifted, because I can strictly elevate my results.
- 4:34So I think that's the key too, is not focusing on doing the
- 4:37huge numbers right away, but having the action steps and
- 4:40making sure you have progress checked along the way. And then
- 4:44on top of that, connecting with people that are already doing
- 4:46it, so they can cut your learning curve in half and you
- 4:48can get there with it.
- 4:50Host: Yeah, well, if you say this is what I'm going to do,
- 4:52then you are forcing yourself to come up with a plan to do it.
- 4:56But if you say this is something I'd like to do, but I don't
- 4:58think it's really possible. People, you're forcing yourself
- 5:01to live in that conundrum of, I don't think I can ever pull it
- 5:05off.
- 5:05Peter Voogd: Oh, 100% and one of the biggest keys that I talk in
- 5:08my book is you don't have to come up with the answers. If you
- 5:12want to make six figure income, or if you want to become a best
- 5:15calling author, you have to find the best people that have
- 5:18already done it and be persistent and start connecting
- 5:21with them so they can give you the answers, what they did well,
- 5:25what they would do differently, and that way you can literally
- 5:28cut your learning curve and app. I didn't want to be a best
- 5:30selling author and number one on Kindle. I found a team that
- 5:33already did it and gave me the steps they need to go find the
- 5:37best people near them and mentor them and ask them questions and
- 5:41take them to lunch, because that's how they're going to get
- 5:44to the next level. And you're either hanging out with people
- 5:46that are holding you accountable or letting you off the hook.
- 5:50There's no in between.
- 5:51Host: Yeah, it is wild. So give us some more practical things in
- 5:54terms of, you know, let's say I'm listening to this and I'm
- 5:58one of those people that going, Yeah, I've been stuck. And, you
- 6:01know, could be, could be any plateau. What are? What are some
- 6:05of the tangible things that I could start doing to help me go
- 6:09from, you know, broke to six figures in six months, or if I'm
- 6:13at 200,000 How can I add another six figures in six months? What
- 6:18are the practices?
- 6:20Peter Voogd: Good question. So yeah, and I pride myself in
- 6:22being more comprehensive and practical versus, like,
- 6:25motivational words, like, you just got to do it, right? I know
- 6:28a lot of folks said better, like, just do it. But the
- 6:30reality is, you do have to have practical steps and tactical
- 6:32steps as well. So Well, the first step, really, is you have
- 6:35to gain absolute clarity on who you are, what your strengths
- 6:39are, and who you need on your team, and then you have to
- 6:43reverse engineer. So the most people I've talked to whether
- 6:45they're making 250 a year, whether they're making 50 a
- 6:48year, they don't have a clear and precise bullet proof plan on
- 6:52how to get to the next level. So they haven't clearly defined
- 6:56exactly how to get there. So one thing I learned from Gary
- 6:58Vaynerchuk, he always had an ideal outcome within the next
- 7:02six months to a year. So what I would ask people is, have you
- 7:06figured out your ideal outcome in six months? What's your
- 7:08business look like? How involved are you in your business? What's
- 7:13the ideal culture of your business? Getting Personal. How
- 7:16much money do you have saved? How much money are you making
- 7:19monthly? What does your team look like? What feelings are you
- 7:23experiencing the most in six months? If it was ideal, what
- 7:28are these? What are the answers to these questions? That's
- 7:30really the first step is figuring out who you are and
- 7:34figuring out what your values are, and really what your Big
- 7:37Five is for the next six months. What are your top three goals
- 7:40for the next 90 days. And then what I have people do is they
- 7:45write down their top 20 most compelling reasons. And here's
- 7:47what I found in training 1000s of people. 80% of those reasons
- 7:51are BS. They're materialistic. They don't even wake you up in
- 7:54the morning. What the heck are you writing these reasons down
- 7:56if you're already sleeping in or pushing the alarm clock? You got
- 7:58to find out of those 20, find five reasons that drive you,
- 8:01like your kids, or you're sick of your boss telling you what to
- 8:04do. If you when you find five internal reasons that drive you,
- 8:09you'll never lack motivation again. So then you find out your
- 8:12compelling reasons and then what key behaviors are needed. So
- 8:16that's the first step, is getting that absolute clarity.
- 8:19So once you get clear on kind of what you want and what you're
- 8:22willing to give up to get what you want, and realize you have
- 8:25to sacrifice. The next step is increasing your confidence
- 8:28account, because every single person has an account inside
- 8:31them called their confidence account. Clarity is great, but
- 8:33without the right confidence, you're not going to accomplish
- 8:36much. So there's five really crucial components to an
- 8:40unshakable confidence. And I mean, I can go through them, but
- 8:43the main ones are you have to watch every choice you make,
- 8:46because they make you. Every choice you make is either
- 8:49helping or hurting your confidence. So you have to be
- 8:52aware what you're doing with that confidence account, because
- 8:56once you get clear, you're going to be more motivated. But then
- 8:59you have to take the right actions to continue elevating
- 9:01your confidence. So your perspective on challenges,
- 9:04understanding that the bigger the goal, the bigger the
- 9:07challenges, is a huge part of confidence. Consistency is a
- 9:11huge part of confidence. Because I think the scariest things in
- 9:15life and business are momentum and lack of momentum, right? So
- 9:19you want to keep up the momentum. And then fourth is
- 9:22your identity. You have to develop an identity with
- 9:25yourself that whatever you say, your actions follow. I think a
- 9:30big confident killer is lack of follow through. You have to
- 9:34understand most people when they say they're going to do
- 9:36something, they don't really think they're going to do it.
- 9:37There's nothing else more important in life and business
- 9:40than your word, because if you don't have your word, people
- 9:42will lose respect for you subconsciously. So the next
- 9:44thing after you gain confidence is shifting your circle of
- 9:48influence and figuring out who you spend time with and how are
- 9:50they influenced. Then you make a list of your top five growth
- 9:53friends and maintenance friends. Growth friends are friends that
- 9:56challenge you, that have results that you want, that are list.
- 10:00Life at a higher level. Playing the game at higher level, you
- 10:02want to increase your time with the maintenance friends, or
- 10:04friends you met at in high school, and you feel bad not
- 10:07hanging out with them, and maybe they're working at the mall, but
- 10:10you like it. It's fun to hang out with them, but they don't
- 10:12really help you as far as advancing towards your biggest
- 10:16goals and dreams and helping your legacy. So you got to lower
- 10:18your time with the maintenance friends. You have to cut off
- 10:20some friends. Yes, you actually do.
- 10:23Host: Somebody who's older, do you think that they have
- 10:26maintenance friends, or they have people that they should
- 10:28really think about, that they may have to cut some ties with?
- 10:32Peter Voogd: I think really, anybody that's not at a level
- 10:35they need to be at needs to evaluate really who they're
- 10:38around the most and who they're hanging out with, because
- 10:41sometimes what's more important than mentors is who you need to
- 10:45stay away from. So I mean, it's not as much as the younger
- 10:49generation, but I definitely feel like there is some older
- 10:51people that really might still have people that kind of drag
- 10:54them down versus pull them up to higher standards. With this, you
- 10:58need to find your top industry leaders, pinpoint the top five
- 11:01people that are doing what you're getting are doing what
- 11:04you want to do, and reach out to them. So that's the next step,
- 11:07is shifting your circle to influence. And then once you
- 11:10shift your circle of influence, you got to make sure you keep
- 11:13the consistent inner drive and motivation and energy as well.
- 11:18And obviously, I don't want to talk too much about energy, but
- 11:20you got to make sure you're energized, physically, mentally,
- 11:22and then once you kind of figure out what results you're getting,
- 11:26you see your results going up because you have a higher
- 11:28influence, you have clarity, you're building your confidence.
- 11:31Then one of my favorites is you create result ritual. I think
- 11:34every problem in people's business lives is just the lack
- 11:37of systems in place. I really think that's a big issue for
- 11:40most people. I think the amount of stress people have in their
- 11:43life or business is in direct correlation to the lack of
- 11:47systems or rituals they have in place. So then you kind of
- 11:50figure out what rituals have consistently been proven to get
- 11:53results, and once you figure out what systems deliver predictable
- 11:57results, then you put them in place, and you can put in
- 12:00mindset, rituals, productivity, rituals, health rituals, wealth
- 12:05rituals, and then the last one is just continual growth and
- 12:07learning which, which, obviously we don't spend the time, but
- 12:09that's just continuing to reach out to high level people and
- 12:12becoming a people developer, standing on the shoulders of
- 12:15giants, and learning how to reinvest your profits back into
- 12:18yourself and back into your business and staying with that
- 12:22clarity. So really, that's the kind of the six steps
- 12:25simplified.
- 12:25Host: I love it. Well, Peter, I really appreciate you being on
- 12:28the show, and we wish you good luck.
- 12:30Peter Voogd: Thank you so much you guys.
