- 2:20And thank you to my friend and associate, Erin Blazing.
- 2:24Erin is across the border in the United States and I am here in Canada.
- 2:32So what's on my mind for today?
- 2:36It's all about third party trauma.
- 2:40Trauma. I like to call this the third party trauma.
- 2:48Okay. Yeah. So, you know, a lot of third parties are hired by
- 2:56government departments in Canada and by companies,
- 3:00high profile companies in Canada to help them develop their websites or maintain their
- 3:07websites. But truth be told, a lot of the third parties that are hired
- 3:15really are unaware. Or I wouldn't like to use the word ignorant,
- 3:22but they are unaware, totally unaware of the meaning of the term
- 3:27accessibility. They claim to be accessibility experts,
- 3:33but in truth and reality they are not.
- 3:38They have no clue. No idea what usability, accessibility and navigation,
- 3:45navigation or navigation nav ability really means.
- 3:54They only focus on those things that are in inaccessible,
- 4:03unusable. But at the same time, they don't really know how to go about
- 4:09dealing with it. They are unable to help with accessibility requirements.
- 4:19Online processes and complaints systems within the Canadian government and even
- 4:26within many companies within Canada that are federally governed remain inaccessible,
- 4:35unusable, and very difficult to navigate.
- 4:38And why is this? Because third parties don't really know what they're doing.
- 4:45A lot of them are unaware.
- 4:48And when you talk to them about it, they probably throw up their hands and they
- 4:53say, you know what? We developed this.
- 4:57We are not going to go back.
- 4:59Even if you ask them to do a retrofit, it's not going to work.
- 5:04No, it's not going to work.
- 5:06So my call today is for government departments within the Canadian government
- 5:12and high profile, federally governed companies within the Canadian system to
- 5:22please take a look at the third parties you hire to make sure that websites are
- 5:29navigable. Like what at this time?
- 5:31Navigable, usable and accessible Awareness and education needs to be the order of the
- 5:39day. For these third party developers.
- 5:44They'll get it. I know they will.
- 5:46But you got to convince them that it is necessary.
- 5:52Do not hire a third party because they say they know what they're doing when it comes to
- 5:57accessibility, usability, and never give you no navigation.
- 6:03Please listen to what I'm saying.
- 6:06Take heed and let's work together.
- 6:11I wish you a great day.
- 6:13I hope you enjoyed my podcast for today.
- 6:17Thank you very much for coming in to listen to me,
- 6:20and I will see you the next time.
