- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into tag Xam. I'm Kinnanni Stephens, Brian Sexton, and
- 0:20Speaker 1: John Osier with me this morning as the pre season
- 0:22Speaker 1: now behind us. Wrapped up preseason game number three on
- 0:25Speaker 1: Saturday in Miami, and we'll talk a little bit about that,
- 0:28Speaker 1: but we'll also look ahead two week one against the
- 0:30Speaker 1: Panthers and cut down Day is coming up on Tuesday,
- 0:33Speaker 1: So we'll start out with big things. Big thing number
- 0:35Speaker 1: one is return to sender.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Brian.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I thought we were going to have some decisions to
- 0:39Speaker 1: make about offensive line, but Fred Johnson heading back to
- 0:42Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventh round pick coming here.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Smart move, Yeah, I think so.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Look, we saw during training camp that Chuma Adoga could
- 0:49Speaker 4: go out and play right tackle, and we saw Patrick
- 0:52Speaker 4: McCurry in the Saints game play a little bit of
- 0:55Speaker 4: right tackle. Besides that, we've seen both of those guys
- 0:58Speaker 4: at some point their crew playing on the left side.
- 1:00Speaker 4: And Anton Harrison is a guy who can play in
- 1:02Speaker 4: multiple positions. And you've got Cole van landon w hoop
- 1:04Speaker 4: you hope to get back at some point this season
- 1:06Speaker 4: as well, so you know they have a bit of
- 1:08Speaker 4: depth at offensive tackle and all the versatility that they
- 1:12Speaker 4: talked about creating came through with those two free.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Agents, particular Idoga and McCarry. John.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Yeah, this really became a case where they realistically were
- 1:20Speaker 5: not going to be able to get him on the
- 1:21Speaker 5: fifty three comfortably. They like Wyatt Myland, they like Genna Manheim.
- 1:27Speaker 5: As Brian said, they feel like they've gotten debt, and
- 1:32Speaker 5: they feel like they've got guys who can snap everywhere inside.
- 1:35Speaker 2: They feel like they have their swinging tackle.
- 1:38Speaker 5: So it became a case where how are you going
- 1:42Speaker 5: to make the fifty three work the game they were
- 1:45Speaker 5: and unfortunately for Fred Johns, he didn't fit in. But
- 1:47Speaker 5: they've made a couple of good trades to get some
- 1:49Speaker 5: value for guys who weren't going to be around in
- 1:52Speaker 5: the last week or so.
- 1:52Speaker 4: And you mentioned that he didn't fit in. It's funny
- 1:55Speaker 4: I thought maybe John he was the biggest human being
- 1:57Speaker 4: we've ever had a Turney camp here. I mean literally,
- 2:00Speaker 4: if I didn't even I was just playing off of that.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you look, as we look at this roster going forward,
- 2:08Speaker 1: we know they made that trade with the Saints as well.
- 2:10Speaker 1: We'll talk a little bit about roster decisions coming up.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But big thing number two, that's a rap the preseason
- 2:15Speaker 1: behind us. Now they played in Miami, some players played
- 2:18Speaker 1: in Miami, but over all Liam Collen talked about the
- 2:21Speaker 1: improvement he's geen over the preseason.
- 2:24Speaker 6: You still gotta continue to get better. There's no doubt
- 2:27Speaker 6: we We cannot waste a single moment, second minute, practice,
- 2:32Speaker 6: walk through, meeting, cannot be wasted. We need to improve
- 2:36Speaker 6: in from now until Carolina. There needs to be continued improvement.
- 2:42Speaker 6: But I am proud of of of this team in
- 2:44Speaker 6: the way that they compete, the physicality in which they
- 2:48Speaker 6: play with. I think we can if we can start
- 2:52Speaker 6: there and have that as a standard that continues to
- 2:56Speaker 6: show up every time we compete. Uh, I'll live with that.
- 3:02Speaker 1: John. Not a ton to talk about in terms of
- 3:03Speaker 1: the game, uh against the Dolphins, because thirty six players
- 3:07Speaker 1: did not dress for the Jaguars as opposed to what
- 3:09Speaker 1: the Dolphins put out there. They had their starters going
- 3:11Speaker 1: for a little bit. But it was encouraging to see
- 3:14Speaker 1: the defense early on against the Dolphins starters and just
- 3:17Speaker 1: kind of that continued progress, cause you want it on
- 3:19Speaker 1: all parts of the roster, not just the starters.
- 3:22Speaker 5: Guess aw, what Liam said after was interesting about playing
- 3:24Speaker 5: with the physicality.
- 3:27Speaker 2: There's so little we all know that.
- 3:30Speaker 5: On September seventh, everything that we've seen the first three games,
- 3:34Speaker 5: all of a sudden just sort of drifts into nothingness
- 3:37Speaker 5: and you forget it all. But I do feel like
- 3:40Speaker 5: Liam likes that physical tone. I feel like he does
- 3:43Speaker 5: like the way this team plays, So maybe they've established
- 3:46Speaker 5: something in that regard. And I do think how the
- 3:49Speaker 5: front seven played against the Dolphins first team was impressive
- 3:53Speaker 5: and encouraging. Mason Smith was out there, Uh, there were
- 3:56Speaker 5: some guys uh, Danny Strigo, Uh, I certain guys who
- 4:01Speaker 5: are going to be around here who are starting to
- 4:04Speaker 5: push up into that world of us known about. So
- 4:08Speaker 5: I thought that first part was more intriguing than I
- 4:12Speaker 5: thought it would be.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Brian, I don't know if it's gonna translate to anything.
- 4:16Speaker 5: They don't how many guys you're gonna be playing, But
- 4:18Speaker 5: it felt good and it felt like it mattered somehow.
- 4:22Speaker 4: You know, John in that last SoundBite that we heard
- 4:24Speaker 4: from Lee and he used the word standard, right, that's
- 4:26Speaker 4: what leaders do. They established the standard, and he's been
- 4:29Speaker 4: working to build the standard. And he just said it's
- 4:32Speaker 4: about playing hard and getting better every single time they
- 4:34Speaker 4: take the grass and they did. Those young guys out there,
- 4:38Speaker 4: as you both have mentioned. On offense, Jaquinna Jackson ran
- 4:43Speaker 4: really hard and Kevin Harris, who just came in last week,
- 4:46Speaker 4: showed you something as well. The offensive line jumped off
- 4:50Speaker 4: sides a little too often, but they did create some
- 4:52Speaker 4: holes in the running game. On defense, there are so
- 4:55Speaker 4: many names to talk about guys who are competing for
- 4:58Speaker 4: the roster. You mentioned Danny striggu and bj Green, right,
- 5:02Speaker 4: Jordan Jefferson and Tyler Lacy, and these guys all showed
- 5:05Speaker 4: up to play and they didn't end up stuffing the Dolphins.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Eventually they got it going, but those first two drives
- 5:11Speaker 4: they made them, you know, three and out. So it
- 5:13Speaker 4: was encouraging to see the second team, the third team
- 5:17Speaker 4: guys showing that they had gotten better. And if that's
- 5:20Speaker 4: the standard that the coach believes in and that's the
- 5:22Speaker 4: one he set, then mission accomplished at least through the preseason.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Our final big thing today is going to be cut Day,
- 5:28Speaker 1: which is tomorrow at four pm, and head coach William
- 5:30Speaker 1: Cohen talked about his first cut day as a head coach.
- 5:34Speaker 6: You know, so many of these guys, like I told
- 5:36Speaker 6: him last night are been a part of creating our
- 5:39Speaker 6: edge and who we are as a team, and so
- 5:42Speaker 6: those decisions aren't easy at all, especially as a young
- 5:46Speaker 6: coach doing it for the first time. Really, those conversations
- 5:49Speaker 6: aren't easy, The decisions aren't easy, But I think I
- 5:53Speaker 6: believe some guys probably helped themselves out tonight in some ways,
- 5:56Speaker 6: whether it's for our team or somebody else's team. Ultimately,
- 6:01Speaker 6: you want to help guys continue to further their dreams
- 6:04Speaker 6: as well as obviously make our roster as competitive as
- 6:07Speaker 6: it can be.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Some decisions to.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Be made today, Brian, we talked a little bit about
- 6:12Speaker 1: the O line. Decisions might be a little bit easier
- 6:14Speaker 1: after moving Fred Johnson back to Philadelphia. But any surprises ahead,
- 6:18Speaker 1: do you think? Or just have to wait and see.
- 6:20Speaker 4: You know, I don't think the initial roster will surprise
- 6:24Speaker 4: a lot of people, But maybe in the days ahead, John,
- 6:26Speaker 4: as players start to become available, guys that other teams
- 6:29Speaker 4: let go that these guys like, then you might see
- 6:32Speaker 4: some you.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Know, John and I were talking before the show.
- 6:34Speaker 4: You know, there's some positions where you'd like to get
- 6:38Speaker 4: better and where you've got a lot of numbers. Safety's
- 6:40Speaker 4: one in particular where there's five or six guys that
- 6:43Speaker 4: you can make the case for having an impact being
- 6:45Speaker 4: on the roster and you could only end up with
- 6:47Speaker 4: four of those or three if there's someone else that
- 6:49Speaker 4: they like.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a meazing a couple of days because I
- 6:52Speaker 5: do think they're going to be active, maybe a receiver,
- 6:55Speaker 5: maybe a couple other positions where they just feel like
- 6:58Speaker 5: that final roster spot.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It needs to be upgraded. It's gonna be an interesting couple.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Of days at As Brian said, safety corner linebacker, I'm intrigued.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I'm intrigued.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'm intrigued to stay with us here on jag Zam.
- 7:15Speaker 1: We're gonna go over that roster and tell you what
- 7:16Speaker 1: we think some of those decisions might be. This school.
- 7:35Speaker 3: That's this school that.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Welcome back to jag Zam. Cut day is tomorrow. They're
- 7:43Speaker 1: gonna get this roster down to fifty three people. So
- 7:46Speaker 1: we're gonna do a little this or that. When we
- 7:47Speaker 1: talk about it. We don't know what's gonna be done.
- 7:49Speaker 1: We've been around, so we're gonna make some educated guesses.
- 7:52Speaker 1: First one's gonna be about wide receiver. Are they gonna
- 7:56Speaker 1: keep six and or do you think they'll kind of
- 8:00Speaker 1: keep five check to waiver wire maybe add to that, John,
- 8:03Speaker 1: I know that was something you mentioned was a possibility.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Obviously we heard through the U through the grape vine
- 8:09Speaker 1: from the Broncos that they were kind of looking at
- 8:11Speaker 1: their receiver at one point, So is that a focus.
- 8:15Speaker 5: I think they keep five, and then I think the
- 8:19Speaker 5: four that we all know are very very solid.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Right beyond that, I.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Want to clarify a lot of these guys were talking
- 8:27Speaker 5: about being cut are still gonna be around, right, Yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 5: And that's the big change in the last maybe ten years, Brian,
- 8:35Speaker 5: when there were six practice squad guys, these cuts meant
- 8:38Speaker 5: everybody was gone r Right. Now you've got sixteen practice
- 8:41Speaker 5: squad guys. So a lot of these guys that we
- 8:43Speaker 5: were saying, oh, that gonna be around.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So I think uh Irwin Trammel, guys like that could
- 8:50Speaker 2: be around. Maybe not on the fifty three.
- 8:52Speaker 5: I think they feel good about those guys, but I
- 8:54Speaker 5: think they're also guys that if if you release, they
- 8:58Speaker 5: may fit better here and be part of this as
- 9:01Speaker 5: sort of that periphery getting onto the roster three or
- 9:05Speaker 5: four times during the year guy. So I think they
- 9:08Speaker 5: keep five and starts of way, you know, for the fifth, right,
- 9:13Speaker 5: I think that they would like to keep five.
- 9:16Speaker 4: And I think Trammel's a guy that you have a
- 9:18Speaker 4: real hard time getting rid of because all he's done
- 9:20Speaker 4: is make place for you. But he's been on and
- 9:22Speaker 4: off your practice squad, so perhaps that's where he goes.
- 9:25Speaker 4: But what they really would like is a bigger bodied
- 9:27Speaker 4: guy that fifth receiver, to be someone who can help
- 9:30Speaker 4: heath and special teams, but also be the possession guy
- 9:33Speaker 4: who gets to the sticks and gets you forward. And
- 9:35Speaker 4: I think that was trenton Irwin's job to earn. But
- 9:38Speaker 4: I don't think he's clarified it right, and I don't
- 9:39Speaker 4: think he gives you enough on special teams necessarily to
- 9:42Speaker 4: be able to say, well, that's his spot.
- 9:44Speaker 3: So five.
- 9:47Speaker 4: If they love Trammel, and I know they like him,
- 9:49Speaker 4: and Bucky and I talked a lot about it on
- 9:50Speaker 4: Saturday night.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Maybe six maybe six?
- 9:54Speaker 2: All right?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Another crowded a room, the running backs room. Is it
- 9:57Speaker 1: possible to keep four running backs on this roster? Not
- 10:00Speaker 1: necessarily dressing, but can Yeah.
- 10:02Speaker 2: They'll keep four.
- 10:04Speaker 5: I'd be stunned if they don't keep four, because they
- 10:07Speaker 5: love l Quinn Allen and they're not cutting him, and
- 10:10Speaker 5: I think he's going to be active. He does so
- 10:12Speaker 5: many things. Well, so yeah, you can keep four. Now
- 10:17Speaker 5: can they get four active on game day?
- 10:22Speaker 2: That's really really hard to get?
- 10:23Speaker 3: Well, making a bit easier.
- 10:24Speaker 4: The coach told us on Friday in the production meeting
- 10:27Speaker 4: that Basil Tuton has become much more effective, much more
- 10:32Speaker 4: versed in special teams. It has improved, and so he's
- 10:35Speaker 4: a guy that you can have active on game day
- 10:37Speaker 4: for special teams. Now, at some point he's gonna be
- 10:39Speaker 4: the lead guy and not play special teams. But early on,
- 10:41Speaker 4: if he's not going to get the bulk of the carries,
- 10:43Speaker 4: he could still be active because of teams.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Is a trade of possibility? Or is that? Is there
- 10:48Speaker 1: not enough value out a running back position to get
- 10:51Speaker 1: much for that? Do you think they'll just keep everybody
- 10:52Speaker 1: they have.
- 10:53Speaker 2: It's always possible.
- 10:54Speaker 5: But if you listen to Liam talk about running backs
- 11:00Speaker 5: over a seventeen game season, if you keep three over
- 11:05Speaker 5: a seventeen game season, one of those guys isn't gonna
- 11:09Speaker 5: be available.
- 11:09Speaker 2: For you for three or four weeks.
- 11:11Speaker 5: If you keep three, you're gonna have a situation at
- 11:14Speaker 5: some point in week nine where you have two, and
- 11:17Speaker 5: I don't think they want that.
- 11:18Speaker 2: So look, sometimes, Brian.
- 11:23Speaker 5: When you've got a lot of good players at one position,
- 11:25Speaker 5: you have to figure out a way to keep good players.
- 11:28Speaker 5: And so I think they may keep that there, maybe
- 11:32Speaker 5: use the Travis Hunter lever, whatever that mean, meaning one
- 11:36Speaker 5: of those positions you don't have to have five because
- 11:39Speaker 5: you have Travis. Maybe they cheated a little bit, you know,
- 11:43Speaker 5: in their numbers by doing that.
- 11:45Speaker 4: I thought Ryan O'Halleran was ten days ago rode a
- 11:47Speaker 4: really compelling column about could you trade Tank Pixby. You're
- 11:50Speaker 4: not gonna trade either the rookies obviously, and you can't
- 11:53Speaker 4: really trade Travis etn because he's playing with a six million.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Dollar you know, fifth year option.
- 11:58Speaker 4: So then you have to decide, well, I mean, is
- 12:01Speaker 4: what I'm going to get back worthy of what Tank is?
- 12:04Speaker 3: And I think Tank's had a really.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Good camp and he's different in that he is a
- 12:08Speaker 4: guy who could play with power and he's got that
- 12:10Speaker 4: big play, explosive potential. He showed us in the game
- 12:13Speaker 4: against New Orleans, you know, just like he had last
- 12:15Speaker 4: year against Houston.
- 12:16Speaker 3: He's got the ability to do that.
- 12:18Speaker 4: So I don't know why you trade any of these
- 12:20Speaker 4: four guys, because all of them can help you win
- 12:23Speaker 4: this year.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Why send them away and have them help someone else?
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, if you're not gonna get much back, I think
- 12:27Speaker 1: that's a very smart move. So potentially four running backs
- 12:30Speaker 1: on this roster. And then as we look ahead to
- 12:31Speaker 1: tough cuts, this was before we had the Fred Johnson trade.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So what do you think the toughest group to cut
- 12:36Speaker 1: down is going to be? Obviously I had my eyes
- 12:38Speaker 1: on safety. I think offensive line at one point would
- 12:40Speaker 1: have been a little more difficult. Brian, what do you
- 12:42Speaker 1: think the toughest position to get down on the cuts
- 12:45Speaker 1: will be?
- 12:45Speaker 4: Todd, I think you hit it with safety because you
- 12:47Speaker 4: know you've got your four. You've got Eric Murray obviously
- 12:49Speaker 4: in Dewey winger that you think very highly of, and
- 12:52Speaker 4: Antonio Johnson's has become a special teams guy. And here's
- 12:55Speaker 4: where it becomes interesting. Daniel Thomas has been one of
- 12:58Speaker 4: the best special teams players on this team for a
- 13:00Speaker 4: number of years now, and Keith has a lot of
- 13:03Speaker 4: confidence in him. But they drafted Rayon Lane to play
- 13:06Speaker 4: special teams as well. So you've just you've got a
- 13:09Speaker 4: bunch of guys, and it's not a position where you
- 13:12Speaker 4: normally keep five, so you don't keep six.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Safety, and I mean, we already covered the one.
- 13:18Speaker 5: I think running back is the toughest because you've got
- 13:21Speaker 5: four guys there who they know can play in the
- 13:24Speaker 5: NFL and play at what they would think of as
- 13:28Speaker 5: a winning level. The safety, for the reasons Brian mentioned
- 13:31Speaker 5: safety is going to be a tough cut.
- 13:33Speaker 2: And I think Daniel Thomas makes it particularly tough because
- 13:35Speaker 2: he's such a good special.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Teams play and we're looking at video of Darnel Savage
- 13:39Speaker 4: and even mentioned him, and he's got a cap number
- 13:41Speaker 4: that's pretty sizable this year.
- 13:43Speaker 3: And the Jaggers already have more.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Than fifty million in dead money, So that kind of
- 13:46Speaker 4: makes you lean into how much more dead money do
- 13:48Speaker 4: we want.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Different groups to keep an eye on that. Decisions will
- 13:53Speaker 1: be made tomorrow by four. Stay with us, though, we
- 13:56Speaker 1: got some hot takes coming up about start a season.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Welcome back to Jack Exam Hot Takes today, brought to
- 14:05Speaker 1: you by Firehouse Subs. The preseason is behind us. We
- 14:10Speaker 1: get real football very very soon. September seventh, first game
- 14:14Speaker 1: a season against the Panthers and kind of a wrap
- 14:18Speaker 1: up of the trading camp season. We don't always put
- 14:20Speaker 1: a ton into the preseason games specifically, but as a whole, Brian,
- 14:25Speaker 1: what's your hot taker, what's your takeaway from this time?
- 14:27Speaker 4: Well, we thought that we would see dramatic improvement in
- 14:30Speaker 4: the Jaguars running game. It was an area of need.
- 14:33Speaker 4: It's what Liam Cohen did so very effectively last year
- 14:36Speaker 4: in Tampa, and we've seen it on the practice field
- 14:39Speaker 4: and I in particular have been beating that drum talking
- 14:42Speaker 4: about what it means for the quarterback and you've written
- 14:44Speaker 4: about it.
- 14:45Speaker 3: John. However, in getting to know Anthony KEMPINELI a little.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Better and seeing how his team has gotten from the
- 14:51Speaker 4: first preseason game to the third preseason game and shown
- 14:55Speaker 4: improvement in almost every respect sacks, not takeaways, but really
- 15:00Speaker 4: effective football, I think that this defense could be as bigger,
- 15:06Speaker 4: bigger story than the running game by the time we
- 15:07Speaker 4: get to the end of the year. In particular because
- 15:10Speaker 4: Campanialy talked on Friday in the television production meeting about
- 15:14Speaker 4: people overplays and the culture that he was trying to
- 15:17Speaker 4: build in the room, about self sacrifice, about caring for
- 15:20Speaker 4: the guy next to you, and that all it sounds
- 15:22Speaker 4: good and it doesn't necessarily mean anything. But we saw
- 15:25Speaker 4: the threes John out there, and you had Strigau and
- 15:28Speaker 4: Green who were fighting against each other, but each guy
- 15:30Speaker 4: got a sack and they were celebrating with one another.
- 15:33Speaker 4: Right you had Tyler Lacy and Jordan Jefferson, yusirab Doula
- 15:37Speaker 4: and Dennis Gardak. I mean, these guys were in a
- 15:41Speaker 4: position where they were playing for their football lives because
- 15:44Speaker 4: those were the battles that were identified to us, and
- 15:47Speaker 4: they came through and played really well. And I just
- 15:50Speaker 4: think that this defense and its culture of people over
- 15:54Speaker 4: plays has created a tighter knit group that cares about
- 15:57Speaker 4: each other. And he said to us, if you don't
- 16:00Speaker 4: care about each other, you don't really have much of
- 16:02Speaker 4: a chance, and these guys really do. You saw the
- 16:04Speaker 4: veteran players on the sideline, you know, who were locked
- 16:07Speaker 4: in Andrew Andrew Wingard said to us after the game
- 16:12Speaker 4: that he spent the whole game watching the young guys
- 16:13Speaker 4: and was proud of them.
- 16:14Speaker 3: So there's something to that.
- 16:15Speaker 4: And I think this defense might be as big a
- 16:17Speaker 4: story in terms of its improvement as the running game.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I think there's a lot to that because I
- 16:21Speaker 5: think they're gonna believe in the direction defensively all season,
- 16:24Speaker 5: and it's clear from the comments that they've made in
- 16:27Speaker 5: the offseason that wasn't quite the case last year.
- 16:29Speaker 2: That's a big deal on defense.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Interestingly, on defense, I think a few guys are really key.
- 16:36Speaker 5: It's hard to judge any of this right because we
- 16:38Speaker 5: really only saw the first team for three series, So
- 16:41Speaker 5: how do we get a real feel for what they're
- 16:43Speaker 5: gonna show?
- 16:44Speaker 2: And Gardeck is really really.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Interesting in the pass rush because he can give them something.
- 16:51Speaker 5: And it's silly to say Travis Hunter has been overlooked,
- 16:55Speaker 5: but I haven't talked about him a whole lot on defense.
- 16:58Speaker 2: If he and Jordan Lewis.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Are this sort of takeaway guys that they've shown at times,
- 17:05Speaker 5: Travis in his career and Jordan Lewis out here and
- 17:09Speaker 5: they're starting all of a sudden, you've got some elements
- 17:12Speaker 5: that can.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Disrupt the opposing offense.
- 17:15Speaker 5: So I think those guys get real interesting once they're
- 17:18Speaker 5: playing the entire game.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I went the other direction. I went with offense.
- 17:23Speaker 5: When Liam Cohen was talking after the game the other night,
- 17:26Speaker 5: somethings just struck me of we haven't.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Seen this guy game plan. Yet.
- 17:31Speaker 5: We know he's got tools, we know he's got four
- 17:32Speaker 5: running backs that he likes, we know he's got wide receivers.
- 17:35Speaker 5: But you don't game plan during the preseason. And this
- 17:38Speaker 5: guy is a play caller. We've seen situations on the
- 17:42Speaker 5: practice field where he has schemed guys open. I don't
- 17:47Speaker 5: know if this is going to be a great, elite,
- 17:49Speaker 5: top five offense, yet this year, I do believe that
- 17:53Speaker 5: there's going to be a lot more big plays, a
- 17:54Speaker 5: lot more explosives, Liam creating opportunities for these really fast guys.
- 17:59Speaker 5: To me, Brian, a marginal uptake in short yardage running
- 18:04Speaker 5: coupled with what nine more explosive plays in a season
- 18:10Speaker 5: gives you one every other game. How much of a
- 18:12Speaker 5: difference with that in mate last year if you get
- 18:14Speaker 5: seven more points in five games.
- 18:16Speaker 2: So that's what I always look for.
- 18:17Speaker 5: How how can you improve that element? Is the thing
- 18:21Speaker 5: that we haven't seen yet that I'm intrigued when the
- 18:24Speaker 5: season starts.
- 18:25Speaker 4: And since you're talking about intrigue improvement in the short
- 18:28Speaker 4: yard is running game as we've seen, isn't just gonna
- 18:30Speaker 4: be lining up and running through the A gaps right
- 18:32Speaker 4: and blocking better or hitting the right hole. They're gonna
- 18:35Speaker 4: use the jet sweeps, they're gonna use the quick screen game,
- 18:37Speaker 4: they're gonna use slants. I mean, they're gonna find a
- 18:39Speaker 4: lot of different ways to keep the offense on the field.
- 18:42Speaker 4: And we've seen the last couple of years the offense
- 18:44Speaker 4: has been so ineffective on third down. We've never gotten
- 18:48Speaker 4: to see a rhythm, you know, anything that the coach
- 18:51Speaker 4: could get into the third and fourth segments of his playbook.
- 18:54Speaker 4: He was always in the first segment because you had
- 18:56Speaker 4: to do the fundamentals right, and they didn't.
- 18:58Speaker 3: So I'm excited to see that too.
- 19:00Speaker 2: You too.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna build off a little bit of what John
- 19:02Speaker 1: was talking about with the offense because I said, how
- 19:04Speaker 1: about a hot start, because why not, let's think positive.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I've got my teel colored glasses on. I'm gonna think
- 19:09Speaker 1: positive about this because I think sometimes it's a benefit
- 19:12Speaker 1: when people don't know what you're gonna bring out there.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Because we don't know what we're gonna see. The opponents
- 19:17Speaker 1: don't know what they're gonna see. So I think the
- 19:18Speaker 1: Jaguars are gonna start out hot. The Panthers, I think
- 19:21Speaker 1: they get a win the Bengals always start slow, so
- 19:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna be optimistic and go with a little three
- 19:27Speaker 1: and one to start the season.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Is my almost the last time.
- 19:31Speaker 4: It's been a long time around here since we've seen
- 19:33Speaker 4: a hot start, a fast start for a Jaguars team.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And it's hot weather here, so why not have a
- 19:37Speaker 1: hot start? That's what I'm going with. But I'm just
- 19:40Speaker 1: going with the John what we're talking about. We don't
- 19:42Speaker 1: know what we're gonna see yet, right, They don't know
- 19:43Speaker 1: what they're gonna see out of the Jaguars, So let's
- 19:45Speaker 1: think positive.
- 19:46Speaker 5: Yeah again. The next couple of weeks and No answered
- 19:50Speaker 5: a lot of his own questions.
- 19:51Speaker 2: What do you think? What do you think?
- 19:52Speaker 5: It's so hard because even after pre season now and
- 19:54Speaker 5: you only see three series. Okay, we saw a little
- 19:58Speaker 5: bit I like first team offense, I like we saw
- 20:00Speaker 5: at Trevor, but we didn't see any skiming.
- 20:03Speaker 2: So what's it gonna look like?
- 20:05Speaker 5: And it's gonna be fun the first few weeks to
- 20:08Speaker 5: see what this looks like.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Something will happen. Yep, we'll be here to see it.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Stay with us. We'll tell you what's coming up. The
- 20:14Speaker 1: rest of the week before the start of the season.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Jagsvams.
- 20:27Speaker 1: If you want to customize Jaguars furniture for your home,
- 20:29Speaker 1: checkout zipchare dot com to rouse all the customizable options.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Zip Chair is furniture for fans.
- 20:35Speaker 3: I feel good.
- 20:36Speaker 7: I think are the work we've put in will show
- 20:39Speaker 7: during the season. The work we put in during camp.
- 20:41Speaker 7: Today wasn't our best showing. But you know, Grant made
- 20:44Speaker 7: a great point to the quarterbacks after practice. At the
- 20:46Speaker 7: end of the day, we're not going to be judged
- 20:47Speaker 7: on how today went. You know that this is just today,
- 20:50Speaker 7: and you put it in a box, you learn from it,
- 20:51Speaker 7: you move on. That doesn't determine what we do in
- 20:53Speaker 7: week one versus Carolina, just like tomorrow won't determine I start,
- 20:56Speaker 7: what we do in Carolina. It's just an accumulation of
- 20:59Speaker 7: all the days and take all the information and learning
- 21:02Speaker 7: from it, growing from it and understanding that it's all
- 21:05Speaker 7: making us better to get.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Us to a place to where My Week one or
- 21:08Speaker 3: way to.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Go was Trevor Lawrence after joined practice in Miami. The
- 21:12Speaker 1: last week saw of him for training camp because he
- 21:14Speaker 1: didn't play in that final preseason game. But we're talking
- 21:17Speaker 1: about Liam Collen what to expect from him. We need
- 21:19Speaker 1: to see more out of Trevor this season.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be a fascinating storyline.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Early I thought There's been a lot of times during
- 21:27Speaker 5: training camp, Brian where I liked what I saw from Trevor.
- 21:30Speaker 5: There were other times, such as Thursday, where he was
- 21:32Speaker 5: the first to admit too sloppy. Realistically, it makes sense
- 21:39Speaker 5: that there would still be growing pains in a new offense,
- 21:42Speaker 5: with new footwork, etc.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I feel like he's going to.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Start off at a solid level, and I'm curious to
- 21:50Speaker 5: see when solid can turn into spectacular.
- 21:53Speaker 2: But that's the storyline for the first six weeks.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Yeah, he sounded like a coach there. I mean talking
- 21:58Speaker 4: about a growth mindset. I appreciated that I hadn't heard
- 22:01Speaker 4: that from him in recent years. It always felt like
- 22:03Speaker 4: he was regurgitating what the coaches had talked to him about,
- 22:08Speaker 4: and this time he was explaining it in greater detail.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I asked him on Friday about his leadership because I
- 22:15Speaker 4: I've seen and I've heard a different Trevor Lawrence this year,
- 22:18Speaker 4: and he said that Liam's program, the way that Liam
- 22:22Speaker 4: handles things, has allowed him to step up and to
- 22:26Speaker 4: be more of a leader, still retaining his own individual
- 22:29Speaker 4: qualities because he's never going.
- 22:30Speaker 3: To be a loud mouth.
- 22:32Speaker 4: But he really appreciates the position he's in to rise
- 22:36Speaker 4: to the challenge that Liam gave him to be the quarterback,
- 22:39Speaker 4: to be the guy that leads this team, and I've
- 22:42Speaker 4: seen it from him consistently in August. It was great
- 22:44Speaker 4: to hear him say that in that SoundBite, and then
- 22:47Speaker 4: even more to tell us that he really believed that
- 22:50Speaker 4: Liam was setting the table for him to do it.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Yep.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I think the setup is there. It'll be his to
- 22:55Speaker 1: take advantage of cut down days tomorrow. We're not going
- 22:58Speaker 1: to be here for that. Well, we'll be in the building.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Excuse me. Our show's not back for the rest of
- 23:02Speaker 1: this week, so we'll talk about this when we get
- 23:04Speaker 1: back and kind of get into Week one action next week.
- 23:07Speaker 1: But I think it's fair to expect for fans that
- 23:11Speaker 1: there might be some waiverwire moves. Whatever the roster is
- 23:13Speaker 1: on Tuesday might not be the roster by next week.
- 23:15Speaker 3: I think point on that.
- 23:17Speaker 1: So we'll keep an eye on that and we will
- 23:19Speaker 1: see you next week. Enjoy your last weekend free of
- 23:23Speaker 1: NFL football. But then we'll be back for the real
- 23:25Speaker 1: deal in Week one,
