- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a
- 0:16Speaker 1: former Hallmark hater, and holy moly, I'm scrolling through our
- 0:19Speaker 1: notes of the emails we have here.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I know and I have to.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Seriously edit this list in order to make it palatable
- 0:26Speaker 1: for a single episode. Wow.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Is that being said?
- 0:29Speaker 1: We do appreciate your very insightful emails and voicemails, and yeah,
- 0:33Speaker 1: we do have a voicemail this week about the way Home.
- 0:36Speaker 1: He'd like to participate in future listener mail bags. You
- 0:39Speaker 1: can do so by emailing us hello at Girls Gonehoalmark
- 0:42Speaker 1: dot com or leaving us a voicemail nine four nine
- 0:46Speaker 1: three two nine eight zero nine zero. If you missed
- 0:48Speaker 1: any of that, it's in the show notes, so you
- 0:50Speaker 1: don't need to rush to write it down while you're
- 0:53Speaker 1: driving around. Can I give you a hot take on
- 0:55Speaker 1: the way home? Yes, I've been thinking about it. Yes,
- 1:00Speaker 1: you know this is a show that sits with you, right.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03Speaker 1: My hot take is I think the show could have
- 1:07Speaker 1: ended when Jacob came home.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Like season two, like Jacob comes home. That's a wrap?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Did he come in season three.
- 1:14Speaker 1: No, he came home season finale of season two. I
- 1:18Speaker 1: think at the end of season three, really, yeah, what
- 1:23Speaker 1: would you have done with all those I don't know.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm not a writer. I don't know. I wouldn't maybe
- 1:29Speaker 2: not have introduced.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Them, I think, because sometimes I'm like, have we just
- 1:33Speaker 1: like jumped the shark? You know?
- 1:35Speaker 2: So now you don't want a season five?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Well, of course I want a season five because I'm
- 1:39Speaker 1: invested in the show. I'm just thinking, like, if it
- 1:41Speaker 1: was originally planned, maybe they could have made the Jacob
- 1:45Speaker 1: storyline longer. Oh, I think people would have write it
- 1:50Speaker 1: if Jacob was lost in the past for longer than
- 1:52Speaker 1: two seasons. I don't know. See, I have mixed feelings
- 1:54Speaker 1: about it. I'm curious what listeners think. If you want
- 1:57Speaker 1: to work and email us hello at Girls Gone Homework
- 2:02Speaker 1: dot Com and you could just say, no, Windy, you're wrong,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and that's okay too. Well, what I'm hoping for is
- 2:08Speaker 1: we have introduced so many new ideas this season, Verne
- 2:11Speaker 1: and Tessa and all that, and I'm not totally sure
- 2:14Speaker 1: any of that was necessary. It's interesting. But the one
- 2:18Speaker 1: piece that we haven't wrapped up that I think is
- 2:21Speaker 1: interesting is Evelyn. And I hadn't until recently thought about
- 2:26Speaker 1: adult Evelyn. I think we talked about it in our
- 2:29Speaker 1: last episode recap about what that means. You know, she
- 2:34Speaker 1: dies alone. I'm curious what sort of resolution we're going
- 2:39Speaker 1: to get there, if Alice plays any role there. That's
- 2:43Speaker 1: the thing that I'm most curious about now. Yes, I'm
- 2:46Speaker 1: curious about who Casey is. Yes, I'm curious about this
- 2:49Speaker 1: whole Tessa situation and how that concludes. But I'm I'm
- 2:53Speaker 1: invested in Evelyn. That being said, I do think season three,
- 3:00Speaker 1: the finale was quite the emotional pick all of the show.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I agree. I'm not sure that you we'll ever top that.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I agree. So let's get into listener mail bag. We
- 3:09Speaker 1: haven't organized like we did last week. Correct, Megan organized
- 3:14Speaker 1: it and the week before actually, oh was it?
- 3:16Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, with so many emails, this is the way it
- 3:20Speaker 1: works out best. So we're going to start right up
- 3:21Speaker 1: top with a correction, because once again I was wrong.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Julian mentions come with me to Stratford and I was like,
- 3:30Speaker 1: that's the birthplace of Shakespeare. So I was like, oh,
- 3:33Speaker 1: that's he's Shakespearean acting so I assumed he's going to England.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Many many, many, many, many, many, many.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Many Canadians dropped into our dms and emails and YouTube comments,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and I appreciate it.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Here's one from Gina.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Gina says, in a previous episode, Julian mentioned he was
- 3:52Speaker 1: a Canadian actor. I live in Nova Scotia, which is
- 3:54Speaker 1: next to New Brunswick. Just for context, and the Stratford
- 3:56Speaker 1: Festival that he's referring to would be the one in Stratford,
- 3:59Speaker 1: Onto Harry. It's a big deal in Canada. So if
- 4:02Speaker 1: he's made it there, he must be doing all right.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So he was not, in fact asking her to cross
- 4:08Speaker 1: the pond, so to speak, just move to a different
- 4:11Speaker 1: Canadian province.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Still, did you just come up with that across the pond?
- 4:18Speaker 1: Didn't, honestly didn't even didn't even mean, you know, that's
- 4:21Speaker 1: what they say. I understand that before. We're talking about
- 4:25Speaker 1: a show where they use a pond to time travel.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Truly didn't even make the connection in my head until
- 4:32Speaker 1: you said it. Funny so wildly for Julian, after spending
- 4:36Speaker 1: two days with this woman to ask her to join
- 4:39Speaker 1: him elsewhere, I think so too. I maintain I have
- 4:43Speaker 1: issues with Julian, and I maintain that we're bad at geography. Indeed,
- 4:49Speaker 1: who knew that there was a Stratford, Ontario? Lots of people, many, many, many,
- 4:58Speaker 1: many many, just too dummy soon had a kitchen ta
- 5:00Speaker 1: in southern California.
- 5:01Speaker 2: That's right, no idea. I think on our.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Recent episode we said Minnesota. Is that in the Midwest?
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yes, I think I said that. I still don't know
- 5:12Speaker 2: the answer to that question.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I know everyone says Americans are assholes. I think Californians
- 5:20Speaker 1: might be assholes or maybe just we are. Can I
- 5:26Speaker 1: tell you the intricracies of Orange County geography? Sure, west
- 5:31Speaker 1: of the Inland Empire?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Not much.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I was gonna say, like, yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Oh boy, geography talk anyway, let's continue to talk about Julian.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Meghan really dislikes this man. Alyssa wrote in I'm glad
- 5:49Speaker 1: Julian is leaving. Apparently doesn't like it you there, he
- 5:53Speaker 1: felt unnecessary instance here and almost like he was love
- 5:56Speaker 1: bombing Dell. I wonder if they originally planned for a
- 5:59Speaker 1: longer story lying for him and Dell, but changed after
- 6:01Speaker 1: learning Season.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Four would be their last, And who knows if we've
- 6:06Speaker 3: seen the last of Julian Lindsay wrote in with the
- 6:08Speaker 3: follow up on Dell's fall, who did she see go
- 6:10Speaker 3: into the woods? And she says, who did del see
- 6:12Speaker 3: go into the woods while.
- 6:13Speaker 1: She was on stormy? If they were really there or
- 6:15Speaker 1: still there, wouldn't they have seen her fall? Was she
- 6:17Speaker 1: hallucinating before she fell? Or did they jump in the
- 6:20Speaker 1: pond before she could see them? What's your take on
- 6:23Speaker 1: that scene? Hmm, let me think about it. Here for
- 6:26Speaker 1: sionly process, Dell thinks she sees someone going in to
- 6:30Speaker 1: the woods. She thinks it might be Colton. Yes, is
- 6:34Speaker 1: she hallucinating?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Here?
- 6:37Speaker 1: Is she having a memory?
- 6:39Speaker 2: Here?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Is she dealing with some sort of age related situational dementia?
- 6:46Speaker 2: I don't know. Is that a thing? Is it a
- 6:48Speaker 2: ghost she sees? Is it a ghost? Who knows?
- 6:51Speaker 1: I don't our next comment in context works really well
- 6:56Speaker 1: for me, okay, And this is about Colton and dell visions.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Jen says, I wonder if he's manifesting as her will
- 7:03Speaker 1: to live. First, he's saying come with him when she's
- 7:06Speaker 1: first down, not leading her to the light, but back
- 7:08Speaker 1: to the living. Then, as you discussed, he is the
- 7:10Speaker 1: one to push her to wake up. Overall, I think
- 7:13Speaker 1: the visions and I guess her ability to choose whether
- 7:15Speaker 1: or not she wakes up is Dell's battle with staying
- 7:18Speaker 1: in the past versus living in the present, which Kat
- 7:21Speaker 1: and Alice and perhaps Jacob battle more literally, and deciding
- 7:25Speaker 1: whether or not to go back to the pond. I
- 7:28Speaker 1: definitely think that's a theme m M that we're dealing with,
- 7:31Speaker 1: And I can see the connection of using Dell's having
- 7:36Speaker 1: a memory or whatever right being stuck in the past
- 7:40Speaker 1: and going forward for the future, especially in that episode,
- 7:43Speaker 1: because Sam and Julian both had been asking her, not pressuring,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and asking her like, hey, come come live with.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Me, let's go do this.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah, let's move forward together in the future, and she
- 7:56Speaker 1: was stuck letting Colton go or and going forward and
- 7:59Speaker 1: doing that. So maybe it's not deeper than just her
- 8:03Speaker 1: being stuck in her memories. Perhaps Yeah, finally Sam versus Julian,
- 8:08Speaker 1: Francisco writes in Colton is obviously the love of her life.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But if she ever thought Sam didn't care about her,
- 8:16Speaker 1: she couldn't have been proven more wrong. He dashed out
- 8:19Speaker 1: of the house looking for her, while Julian did nothing.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Would Shirt do you prefer Sam over Julian. Do you
- 8:26Speaker 1: think Sam cares more? I think that's exactly what that
- 8:30Speaker 1: scene was designed to make us believe. I'm still a
- 8:32Speaker 1: little bit on the fence about what's going on with Sam,
- 8:35Speaker 1: but I think he has shown up for dell his
- 8:38Speaker 1: panic in that moment where Julian mentions that she went
- 8:42Speaker 1: to go get lightning and Sam realizes, oh, this is
- 8:45Speaker 1: a problem. I think it's designed to tell us Sam
- 8:47Speaker 1: knows her, knows her better yet than Julian does, yes,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and cares about her because he rushes out to help her.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Except we're going to read the voicemail from Eric from Iowa.
- 8:59Speaker 4: In Iowa, It's been a lot of thought that weak
- 9:02Speaker 4: about have seeing the younger version of Bit that generated
- 9:04Speaker 4: a lot of empathy for the character, and I agree.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I think one reason for this that is the amazing
- 9:09Speaker 4: pasting of Leo Patty when Miles looks so much like
- 9:13Speaker 4: middle aged Bit that it's practically on Danny. The multi
- 9:17Speaker 4: generational cap in the show has been so good for
- 9:20Speaker 4: so long that I would motivate into leok up who
- 9:22Speaker 4: the casting director is, and it actually two guys, John
- 9:26Speaker 4: Buchan and Jason Knight, so out after them to the
- 9:29Speaker 4: amazing word, and I can't see who they're going to
- 9:32Speaker 4: cast at the end of the seven have middle aged Alice,
- 9:36Speaker 4: black Claire. We'll see what happened. Love the FOD just
- 9:41Speaker 4: sa you know, I also know all your homemark movie review.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Keep up the drinker.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Thanks, Eric, I just wanted to I'm making that time
- 9:48Speaker 1: out a timeout motion ry. Huh is Eric suggesting that
- 9:52Speaker 1: middle age Alice is clear? Oh my god.
- 9:55Speaker 2: A lot of.
- 9:56Speaker 1: People have been positive where we talk. That is a
- 10:00Speaker 1: lot last season. Nobody likes, well not nobody. I don't
- 10:04Speaker 1: like the idea that Claire is adult Alice. A lot
- 10:07Speaker 1: of people have posited that we talked a lot about
- 10:09Speaker 1: it last season when Claire first came on the scene,
- 10:12Speaker 1: especially because we were dealing with Alice and Nick re
- 10:15Speaker 1: meeting each other in the present day.
- 10:18Speaker 2: That's not a theory that I like.
- 10:20Speaker 1: However, I've also heard a lot of chatter this season recently,
- 10:25Speaker 1: really in the last week, that we're going to get
- 10:26Speaker 1: a middle aged Alice, and that is something that hadn't
- 10:29Speaker 1: occurred to me. And I'm very curious to see. Do
- 10:33Speaker 1: you want to see Alice's.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Future? Yeah? I do?
- 10:39Speaker 3: Do you Yeah? Kind of Alice is one of the
- 10:42Speaker 3: only ones. Alice is the only one who doesn't exist
- 10:46Speaker 3: in this series in a different version of herself.
- 10:50Speaker 1: It's very interesting. It would be interesting to see that depiction.
- 10:57Speaker 1: My other comment on Eric's mail, I love that he
- 11:02Speaker 1: shouted out the casting directors. This goes back to how
- 11:07Speaker 1: much I love News and Notes. Yes, we never hardly. Ever,
- 11:11Speaker 1: I don't think talked about casting directors and our rundown
- 11:15Speaker 1: of News and Notes.
- 11:16Speaker 2: But see, I think that people like it.
- 11:19Speaker 1: If you haven't listened to our survey results episode, I
- 11:22Speaker 1: encourage you anyway. I agree the casting of young Vic
- 11:28Speaker 1: is so perfect. Yes, last season we got younger Vic
- 11:32Speaker 1: that is the Sun, yes of the actor who plays
- 11:35Speaker 1: adult the older actor, Yes, yeses. And now we have
- 11:38Speaker 1: this midpoint older teen young adult Vic who is not
- 11:42Speaker 1: related to those actors. But I agree was incredible casting
- 11:46Speaker 1: and agree with the statements across the board. I think
- 11:49Speaker 1: the casting has been great. Doesn't that seem like a
- 11:52Speaker 1: fun job casting? I don't know anything about it. I
- 11:56Speaker 1: would not be good at it. Why, I just I
- 11:58Speaker 1: don't think it's this talent that I have. I think
- 12:00Speaker 1: it's an interesting job. I think it'd be so cool
- 12:02Speaker 1: to be like, Oh, I see this person when you think,
- 12:07Speaker 1: do you think in pictures? Yeah? I do, see I don't.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I think that's why it would be hard for me,
- 12:12Speaker 1: very literal. Our next email is from Brittany. Brittany writes,
- 12:17Speaker 1: have you heard of the book The Five Love Languages
- 12:20Speaker 1: by Gary Chapin. He purports that everyone wants to feel
- 12:24Speaker 1: loved in certain ways words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts,
- 12:29Speaker 1: active service, and physical touch. Maybe that's why Dell is
- 12:32Speaker 1: so frustrated with Sam. She keeps expecting tangible expressions of love,
- 12:38Speaker 1: her desired love language and romance, but Sam isn't speaking
- 12:41Speaker 1: that language. He's speaking a different one. Yes, I know
- 12:46Speaker 1: about the Five Love Languages. What's yours? You'll say it's gifts.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I say it's equally gifts and words of affirmation.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Do you think this could apply to Dell? I think
- 13:00Speaker 1: it's a very generous take of what Dell is going
- 13:02Speaker 1: through here, because I think she was unfair to Sam.
- 13:06Speaker 1: And while I think it is certainly possible that Dell
- 13:10Speaker 1: isn't receiving love in the way that's most meaningful to her,
- 13:14Speaker 1: she's also not communicating that effectively. To Sam, she's just
- 13:19Speaker 1: telling him that he's taking her for granted, and I
- 13:21Speaker 1: think that's an overblown reaction to what's happening here. I
- 13:25Speaker 1: still see this as Dell being caught between two worlds
- 13:29Speaker 1: and unwilling to fully commit.
- 13:31Speaker 2: To the presence.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Dell is a complicated human. Yeah, she has experienced so
- 13:35Speaker 1: much trauma and grief in her life, and I think
- 13:38Speaker 1: it's a little bit unfair to be like, snap out
- 13:41Speaker 1: of it.
- 13:41Speaker 2: You need to move on with your life. I did it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: You know, humans are very layered. I feel for her.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I feel for her. Brittany also writes Dell doesn't trust
- 13:54Speaker 1: him not to leave if she tells him the truth,
- 13:56Speaker 1: and so she's holding him at arm's length under the
- 13:59Speaker 1: guise of protecting her girls. Hmmm, do you think that's
- 14:04Speaker 1: why she's You don't think she trusts him not to leave?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Oh, that's interesting. Does she not trust him not to leave?
- 14:12Speaker 1: Perhaps because the people that she has loved have left, right, So.
- 14:16Speaker 2: That's an interesting take. Perhaps.
- 14:19Speaker 1: In regards to is del Kat's mom, Francisco says, I
- 14:21Speaker 1: do think Dell is Cat's mom. That'd be too much
- 14:23Speaker 1: to unpack in five episodes.
- 14:25Speaker 2: If she was, I agree.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I agree, I'm just you know, painting on my clown
- 14:29Speaker 1: makeup sometimes.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Sure, he up with some.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Theories, yes, and Dell at one point does say she
- 14:36Speaker 1: talks about she's talking to a cow or a horse,
- 14:39Speaker 1: a horse giving birth.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's like I've only done this twice. Mmmm.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I think I think Kat is her child. All right,
- 14:47Speaker 2: let's talk about Evelyn.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Brittany says, I hope Alice is with her at the end,
- 14:50Speaker 1: not because of the manuscripts and the records, but because
- 14:53Speaker 1: they are so dear to one another that this moment
- 14:55Speaker 1: should happen. Evelyn needs the truth from the ones she
- 14:58Speaker 1: loved to know that she has loved. I hope that
- 15:00Speaker 1: older Delilah is a part of that conversation. Francisco says,
- 15:04Speaker 1: ev seems like she was a really good mom and
- 15:05Speaker 1: from what Max says, a good grandma. It also seems
- 15:07Speaker 1: she doesn't have this intense, years long rivalry with Dell.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So I think the writers are rewriting her, rewriting Evie,
- 15:14Speaker 1: or rewriting Dell. Well, yeah, rewriting their relationship, because certainly,
- 15:21Speaker 1: earlier in this series it seems like there was a
- 15:23Speaker 1: lot of animosity. Yeah, exactly, Yeah, I would like to know, like,
- 15:27Speaker 1: and maybe I've said this in a previous episod, like
- 15:29Speaker 1: what happened in all those years We were under the
- 15:31Speaker 1: impression that there was like they were friends, and then
- 15:34Speaker 1: there was weird animosity, animosity, and I'm.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Like to believe it was about Coulton.
- 15:39Speaker 1: But well then I think there was the incident at
- 15:41Speaker 1: Lingermore and Dell begged Evie Evelyn not to press charges.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, ma'am. So maybe that's what she owes her for.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I need to go back and rewatch because I don't
- 15:53Speaker 1: remember all those details. Next up is we're going to
- 15:56Speaker 1: talk about Alice and Evie's friendship. Brittany says Alice is
- 15:59Speaker 1: very good at encouraging Evelyn that she's an amazing human
- 16:03Speaker 1: being worth loving. Alice gets back to her every chance
- 16:08Speaker 1: she can get because she wants to help her. Evelyn
- 16:11Speaker 1: was hurt because those love languages got interrupted through no
- 16:14Speaker 1: one's through no fault of Alice. However, Alice doesn't tell
- 16:19Speaker 1: Evelyn the truth about why she's been gone, something that
- 16:23Speaker 1: would clarify Evie's understanding of events. Well, I mean, I'm
- 16:28Speaker 1: a time traveler is a hard pill to swallow.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I think yeah, exactly. I don't know if Evie.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I mean, Nick understands it, but so why wouldn't she
- 16:40Speaker 1: trust Evie? Yeah, but Nick has proof, you know, Nick
- 16:46Speaker 1: meets Alice in the past, and and fair asn't I Yeah,
- 16:50Speaker 1: I don't know that Evie wouldn't understand it, But I
- 16:54Speaker 1: think it ruins something for these travelers to go around
- 16:56Speaker 1: telling people.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I'm a time traveler.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I'm a time traveler, and I think there's something in
- 16:59Speaker 1: the mystery of that. Well, maybe there'll be some great
- 17:04Speaker 1: full circle moments at the end, And I know somebody
- 17:07Speaker 1: mentioned it here, but maybe we see teenage Alice, teenage Alice,
- 17:11Speaker 1: young adult Alice talking to older Evelyn and explaining I
- 17:17Speaker 1: don't know, Yeah.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Maybe Evelyn will actually remember her from the past maybe
- 17:21Speaker 3: everybody else.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break and come right back with
- 17:24Speaker 1: more listener mailbag submissions. All right, we're still going to
- 17:36Speaker 1: talk about Alice.
- 17:37Speaker 2: What's going on with her this season?
- 17:38Speaker 1: Francisco says it seems like she isn't the MVP of
- 17:41Speaker 1: the season like last season, but being used as a
- 17:43Speaker 1: vehicle to show what Dell and Colton are doing. That's okay,
- 17:47Speaker 1: of course, and she gave the reason why it had
- 17:48Speaker 1: to be this way, But it's an interesting change. She's
- 17:51Speaker 1: still a better time traveler than Kat, who can't keep
- 17:53Speaker 1: herself hidden. That is an interesting change because she isn't
- 17:58Speaker 1: interacting in the past anymore, all of a sudden, and
- 18:04Speaker 1: she's just kind of there so that the viewers can
- 18:06Speaker 1: see what's going on. Alissa says, one thing I missed
- 18:09Speaker 1: from the earlier seasons is the emotional focus of the show.
- 18:12Speaker 2: We used to get so many.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Meaningful mother daughter moments between Cat and Alice, but now
- 18:16Speaker 1: they're mostly on separate journeys chasing clues about Tessa. While
- 18:20Speaker 1: that storyline matters, Alice is leaving for college in a
- 18:22Speaker 1: few weeks and they barely spend time together. Alice is
- 18:27Speaker 1: soiling the nest. If you're not a parent of a
- 18:33Speaker 1: is that something you're dealing with? Uh huh, just google it, guys. Yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 1: we went through that last year.
- 18:42Speaker 2: That's real. Yeah, it is real. I could have missed
- 18:44Speaker 2: that too.
- 18:45Speaker 1: There are some elements of this show from earlier seasons
- 18:49Speaker 1: that I missed, and maybe that's why I say, like, oh,
- 18:53Speaker 1: they could have ended it maybe with last season, but
- 18:57Speaker 1: I don't think it makes to show bad. Also, maybe
- 19:00Speaker 1: Kat is just spiraling out of thinking about losing like
- 19:04Speaker 1: her kid, and therefore she can't spend time with her. Yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 1: let's talk about the Alice and Noah m Max triangle.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Brittany writes she and Noah were really sweet for all
- 19:16Speaker 1: of five minutes last season. Ever since Alice became paranoid
- 19:20Speaker 1: that she would end up with poor Max, it just
- 19:22Speaker 1: got weird. Instead of letting her relationship with Noah dieing
- 19:26Speaker 1: natural death, she got back together with him, complicating things
- 19:29Speaker 1: with the briefly unfriendzoned Max. I hope Alice takes Max
- 19:34Speaker 1: to say goodbye to Evelyn and eventually explains to him
- 19:37Speaker 1: the real history between the Landryes and the Goodwins. That's
- 19:40Speaker 1: an interesting take about taking Max to say goodbye to
- 19:44Speaker 1: Grandma Evelynne.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I hadn't thought about that.
- 19:51Speaker 1: But then she has to then trust Max with this
- 19:53Speaker 1: big secret, right for sure? This is just like your
- 19:57Speaker 1: circle's getting wider and wider and wider people who know. Yes,
- 20:01Speaker 1: but is there danger in that She's not breaking the law? No,
- 20:05Speaker 1: I know, but outsiders can be like, I'm just afraid
- 20:08Speaker 1: of secrets getting out. Sure, Sure, she's a witch exactly, y'all.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I had loss to say about Nick. Gina said, I
- 20:15Speaker 1: love that Nick has won you over on this episode.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I love his character and the fun and levity he
- 20:19Speaker 1: brings to the show. Brittany says, I'm so glad Nick
- 20:22Speaker 1: didn't actually die in the past or it left behind.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Wayne says Nick playing dress up in the twenties finally,
- 20:27Speaker 1: Spats is useful and not being creepy. But my big
- 20:30Speaker 1: question the whole time was where did he leave his clothes?
- 20:32Speaker 1: Isn't Cliff gonna find some twenty twenty six clothes up
- 20:34Speaker 1: in his room when he gets home?
- 20:36Speaker 2: Mmmmm.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Brittany says, I hope Nick quotes the Goonies it's our time,
- 20:40Speaker 1: our time down here. He goes from dressing like Night
- 20:42Speaker 1: Writer and the present to dressing like Clark Gable in
- 20:44Speaker 1: the past.
- 20:44Speaker 2: He's a Dora baby.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I'm just so fond of him ever since he said
- 20:48Speaker 1: so emphatically ew about the age difference between he and Alice.
- 20:51Speaker 2: That's a quality man, right there. Wait is that? Wait?
- 20:54Speaker 1: We got like a real throwback in that one email
- 20:57Speaker 1: from Brittany Goonies and Night Writer and now my husband
- 21:01Speaker 1: would appreciate those refonces Lisa says, I know Nick isn't
- 21:05Speaker 1: liked by all, but I think he brings a good
- 21:06Speaker 1: level of goofiness to balance out the melancholy. If Kat
- 21:09Speaker 1: and Elliot do get married, I'd assume that Nick would
- 21:11Speaker 1: be his best man. One quick follow up on that
- 21:17Speaker 1: Nick comment, Brittany says, the show doesn't care much about
- 21:21Speaker 1: such an obvious plot hole like Nick falling into the
- 21:24Speaker 1: pond in the past without his clothes but somehow having
- 21:27Speaker 1: them back on in the present. I don't think he
- 21:29Speaker 1: was wearing the leather jacket under the shirt. Oh gosh,
- 21:34Speaker 1: that just see that man, man freakantastic. Let's talk about
- 21:39Speaker 1: Elliott in this episode. Wayne rode in Ellie did great
- 21:43Speaker 1: in this episode. Instead of tantrums and spirals, he was
- 21:46Speaker 1: tender and sentimental.
- 21:49Speaker 2: T n s.
- 21:50Speaker 1: That's right, Elisa Roe. I really enjoyed Elliott in this episode,
- 21:54Speaker 1: although I did scream about him not hiding at all.
- 21:57Speaker 1: How did his mom and Evy not see him at
- 22:00Speaker 1: all standing away from the tree. Yeah, he went to
- 22:04Speaker 1: the cat Landry School of time traveling. You're not invisible, dude,
- 22:11Speaker 1: Brittie writes. It was word seeing Tessa go into klepto mode. Again,
- 22:15Speaker 1: a tall, dark, handsome stranger coming into your life was
- 22:19Speaker 1: obviously Elliott. He was literally standing right there over an
- 22:23Speaker 1: open fence. But seriously, how did neither young lady notice
- 22:27Speaker 1: him staring at them? Elliott was not being stealthy, but
- 22:31Speaker 1: Vic noticed him right away. And finally Elliott, seeing his
- 22:36Speaker 1: parents excited to have him must have been truly startling.
- 22:40Speaker 1: He could have gotten angry and railed at them, but
- 22:44Speaker 1: instead he celebrated with them. It was a full moment
- 22:48Speaker 1: for Elliott.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I mean, don't you think think about you and I
- 22:52Speaker 1: Our parents are not perfect, right, correct. If we could
- 22:55Speaker 1: go back and see them in time and maybe get
- 22:58Speaker 1: a little bit understanding of like why they are who
- 23:01Speaker 1: they are today, wouldn't that give you some kind of
- 23:05Speaker 1: closure or grace you could offer them?
- 23:09Speaker 2: It's their first time honor.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, it's just a girl yep, exactly. Yeah, absolutely, absolutely,
- 23:15Speaker 1: And my first instincts in that moment wouldn't be to
- 23:18Speaker 1: be like, hey, you did this and this and this, yeah, exactly.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Understaining them as people.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Yeah, there are some thoughts on the writing at Elliott
- 23:29Speaker 1: this season. Elissa says sometimes Elliott says things are just ridiculous,
- 23:32Speaker 1: I still remember in season two him yelling at Cat
- 23:34Speaker 1: that Colton was like a father to him and he
- 23:35Speaker 1: couldn't deal with her partner his death. My guy, that
- 23:38Speaker 1: was her father. What are you doing? Alissa goes on
- 23:41Speaker 1: to say, the bigger issue is that the writers have
- 23:43Speaker 1: taken an amazing character and bent his reactions to serve
- 23:46Speaker 1: the plot instead of developing him naturally. There's no build
- 23:49Speaker 1: up to his emotions, and his maturity level fluctuates depending
- 23:52Speaker 1: on what the story needs in the moment, not on
- 23:54Speaker 1: what the character has actually experienced. Finally, the abandonment storyline
- 23:59Speaker 1: is a good example. We haven't seen him consistently show
- 24:02Speaker 1: the kinds of traits you'd see from someone carrying abandonment
- 24:05Speaker 1: trauma until this season, not in the same way it
- 24:08Speaker 1: portrayed his trauma with his father's emotional abuse. Y'all are
- 24:12Speaker 1: very insightful. That's all I have to say about. Yeah,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I agree. Let's talk to Augie boys. Why are the
- 24:19Speaker 1: Augi boys after Cat? Lauria writes, and I don't understand
- 24:21Speaker 1: why the Augie boys are after Cat other than that
- 24:24Speaker 1: interaction with them before she gets into the truck.
- 24:27Speaker 2: She doesn't speak.
- 24:28Speaker 1: With them, and that conversation was no reason for them
- 24:32Speaker 1: to want to kill her. So has someone tips them
- 24:35Speaker 1: off that Cat should be taken out because she might
- 24:38Speaker 1: be in cahoots with Cliff Kine. If so, who fern
- 24:43Speaker 1: to take.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Suspicion off of herself? Question?
- 24:45Speaker 1: Mark Laurie goes on to say, I do wonder which
- 24:48Speaker 1: Augi boy is Elliot's grandfather. Neither of them is anything
- 24:51Speaker 1: like him.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Well, to both of those comments, I say, just make
- 24:55Speaker 3: sure you turn it on Sunday.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Yep, no spoilers, but watch this week's episode. Let's talk
- 25:00Speaker 1: about Kat in the past. Brittany says, you're kind of
- 25:03Speaker 1: about Marty. Disappearing from the photo had me thinking that
- 25:06Speaker 1: whether Elliott goes or not, he's in danger. We're dealing
- 25:09Speaker 1: with mob ties, right, which means Kat will clearly take
- 25:12Speaker 1: it upon herself to make sure that the Augie boys
- 25:14Speaker 1: don't get shot. How will she do so by wearing
- 25:17Speaker 1: the most ridiculous disguise she can, of course, because otherwise
- 25:20Speaker 1: these guys who she thinks want to do her harm,
- 25:23Speaker 1: will harm her if they know that she's there. This,
- 25:26Speaker 1: of course eventually happens, and they follow her up from
- 25:28Speaker 1: the tunnels to the Goodwin home, catching her trying to
- 25:31Speaker 1: get Fern out of there when she really should have
- 25:33Speaker 1: left Fern to filmings. That location is nowhere near the explosion,
- 25:38Speaker 1: but they probably take the women back down to where
- 25:40Speaker 1: it's dangerous and four good men go in to rescue them. Conclusion,
- 25:45Speaker 1: Kat is stupid and impulsive and dressing up like a
- 25:48Speaker 1: man will be so obvious. Even the Augi boys will notice.
- 25:51Speaker 1: It's got to be something like this. Hmm. I mean
- 25:58Speaker 1: five one four came out. It's not an accident that
- 26:01Speaker 1: we're going to get some clarity on that, hmm. And
- 26:06Speaker 1: who's involved, and of course it's going to be one
- 26:08Speaker 1: of our players. Yeah, And Francisco says, well, it didn't
- 26:12Speaker 1: take that long to end up in jail again. I'm
- 26:13Speaker 1: seeing a real pattern here. Yeah, I feel Francisco every
- 26:18Speaker 1: time I watch this show. I know when Cat does something,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I'm sure Francisco is absolutely firing up
- 26:25Speaker 1: the last absolutely watch. Our next topic is Grayson Goodwin.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Brittany says, Grayson Goodwin seems to be covering his own butt,
- 26:34Speaker 1: and he got way more information out of Kat than
- 26:37Speaker 1: she got out of him. He now knows Tessa is
- 26:40Speaker 1: being searched for. He of course, will egotistically think the
- 26:44Speaker 1: reason is to expose his bootlegging operation, but he will
- 26:48Speaker 1: be wrong. Jen writes in does he know about time travel?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Or is he just concerned about his business interest which
- 26:57Speaker 1: maybe booze as well as Hollywood and the Harold. If
- 27:01Speaker 1: he and Fern are as close as they both say
- 27:04Speaker 1: they are, and she seems so relaxed about time travel,
- 27:08Speaker 1: why wouldn't she have told him? Do you think Fern
- 27:12Speaker 1: would have told Grace and about the time travel?
- 27:13Speaker 4: No?
- 27:13Speaker 2: I don't think so. I do not, but I don't
- 27:16Speaker 2: get Fern, so I don't. She is an enigma? Is
- 27:20Speaker 2: that the word? Yes, let's talk.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Cliff Brittany says Agent Cliff Kane was as transparent as
- 27:25Speaker 1: a bucket of rainwater. He likes Fern a lot. He
- 27:28Speaker 1: seems very amused by Kat and Nick as well. He
- 27:31Speaker 1: definitely knows something is off because Nick legit stole his clothes.
- 27:35Speaker 1: He was joking with Nick about the clothes because he
- 27:37Speaker 1: was expecting to get them back, and also because he
- 27:40Speaker 1: was letting them know he knew something was up. He
- 27:43Speaker 1: was not made an investigator because he's thick. He knows
- 27:45Speaker 1: how to read people. Nick's modern slang and mannerisms had
- 27:48Speaker 1: to be a dead giveaway. Yeah, but would Cliff really be.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Like, is this guy from the future.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I don't think he would make that leap, but I
- 27:57Speaker 1: think something would strike him as incongruous.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Brittany also says Cliffcane being frustrated has nothing to do
- 28:03Speaker 1: with money. He's tired of injustice of criminals going free
- 28:06Speaker 1: in the establishment making a profit from it. And Francisco
- 28:10Speaker 1: says Clip seems like an okay guy, but not exactly
- 28:12Speaker 1: a great inspector.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Let's talk at Anti Coop. Whoohoo.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Lindsay says, some people thought that Tessa could be Cassandra.
- 28:20Speaker 1: This episode disproved that theory, right, since Grayson talked about
- 28:24Speaker 1: and knows Anti Coop. I don't think that timeline works anymore.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Had we thought Tessa might be Cassandra?
- 28:31Speaker 2: Did was that a theory? Lisa Cassandra the sister? Yeah?
- 28:35Speaker 1: I don't know if that was our theory. I don't
- 28:37Speaker 1: know either. Bratty writes, have they listed an actress playing
- 28:41Speaker 1: Anti Coop yet as of the recording of this episode
- 28:43Speaker 1: not on IMDb?
- 28:45Speaker 3: Did you look?
- 28:45Speaker 1: I did do diligence? Megan Mandy wraps us up. She says,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I think Tessa is from the future and the nineteen
- 28:53Speaker 1: eighties isn't really her real time And somehow she knew
- 28:57Speaker 1: she would have to go back to the nineteen twenties
- 28:59Speaker 1: to save Elliott, but somehow got stuck in eighteen eighty
- 29:02Speaker 1: two and had to stay and wait until the nineteen twenties.
- 29:05Speaker 1: She was definitely planning to come back because of the
- 29:07Speaker 1: suitcase guys, the math, the math.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I'm that lady with the numbers around her head.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Aaron rides in with the theory about the one. She says,
- 29:17Speaker 1: We've always thought of the one as someone that had
- 29:19Speaker 1: powers over the pond, but we only ever heard that
- 29:21Speaker 1: term from Fern. Could the one that Fern kept referring
- 29:24Speaker 1: to actually be whoever was coming back for Tessa aka
- 29:28Speaker 1: Anti Coop. Could Tessa have told Fern to watch for
- 29:30Speaker 1: someone to come through the pond, saying it will be
- 29:32Speaker 1: a boy slash man looking for her. Oh yeah, because
- 29:37Speaker 1: remember when Kat comes this season and Tessa's like, but
- 29:42Speaker 1: you're not a boy, yes, yes, or she says, but
- 29:45Speaker 1: you're a girl. I can't remember the line exactly what
- 29:48Speaker 1: she was referring to that Kat was not of the
- 29:50Speaker 1: gender that was supposed to be sure through, so maybe
- 29:54Speaker 1: it could be Elliott. Would that be a wild take
- 29:57Speaker 1: if Elliott ends up being the one. Yeah, nothing to
- 30:02Speaker 1: do with the Landrys at all. I think that'd be
- 30:04Speaker 1: a leap. I think that would be no disrespect to Elliott,
- 30:07Speaker 1: a disappointing ending for me just.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Because the show. Send your emails to Megan.
- 30:13Speaker 1: It's not Evan Williams. No, I know it's not slight.
- 30:17Speaker 1: I think the show hasn't been set up that way. Yeah,
- 30:19Speaker 1: Alice is so central to this show that if she's
- 30:23Speaker 1: not the one, there needs to be some other major purpose.
- 30:29Speaker 1: It would be like a little misogynistic to have like
- 30:31Speaker 1: Alison cat run in the show and then all of
- 30:33Speaker 1: a sudden.
- 30:33Speaker 2: They're like, it's Elliott. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Amy writes in she wants to talk about the show
- 30:40Speaker 1: the Pit.
- 30:41Speaker 2: I love this.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I love this commentary because this came up for people
- 30:44Speaker 1: who weren't paying attention. You're like, what's happening here? Are
- 30:47Speaker 1: you looking at me for not paying attention? I do
- 30:48Speaker 1: remember talking about the Pit on the way home, but
- 30:50Speaker 1: I said we were talking about wanting all these answers
- 30:53Speaker 1: and I show, Yeah, Yeah. I sat through fifteen episodes
- 30:56Speaker 1: of The Pit, and while I wanted answers, I was
- 31:00Speaker 1: displeased with the pace of that show. So Amy has
- 31:02Speaker 1: some thoughts on that. She says, The Pit sprinkles the
- 31:06Speaker 1: questions into a show that is otherwise a very fast
- 31:08Speaker 1: pace and engaging to watch, even aside from the ongoing questions.
- 31:13Speaker 1: On the other hand, the Way Home builds questions upon questions,
- 31:17Speaker 1: mystery upon mystery, and we get very little relief from that.
- 31:21Speaker 1: There's so much build up and very little payoffs so far.
- 31:25Speaker 1: The Pit is a show that has characters with some
- 31:28Speaker 1: mystery about them. The Way Home is a show about
- 31:32Speaker 1: the mysteries.
- 31:33Speaker 4: You know.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I read these emails and I think we are the
- 31:35Speaker 1: wrong people to be doing this podcast because so many
- 31:38Speaker 1: people just have so many more insightful things to say.
- 31:41Speaker 2: I appreciate it me too.
- 31:43Speaker 1: In that same vein Francisco says, there seem to be
- 31:45Speaker 1: so many unanswered questions, and I honestly don't think they'll
- 31:47Speaker 1: all be satisfactorily answered. We still know hardly anything about Griffin,
- 31:51Speaker 1: Testa's bouncing all over the place. Fern is practically useless.
- 31:54Speaker 1: The list goes on Alyssa says, every episode seems focused
- 31:58Speaker 1: on adding more clues without giving answers, which is why
- 32:00Speaker 1: I really enjoyed this episode. It finally brought back the
- 32:03Speaker 1: emotional moments with Dell and Alice and Dell and Jacob.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Let's move on to Jacob. First of all, let's talk
- 32:09Speaker 1: the Jacob Thomas Coyle connection. Lisa writes, I can't recall
- 32:13Speaker 1: where he's settled after leaving Port Haven, but what if
- 32:16Speaker 1: Thomas Coyle move there and open that bar? Adding to that,
- 32:20Speaker 1: what if the woman that stopped in is a Coyle descendant.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Didn't Thomas go.
- 32:25Speaker 2: To New York? Certainly at some point he did.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Yes, I don't remember where he went either, but I
- 32:33Speaker 1: thought it was New York.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Do you want me to read this other Jacob one
- 32:35Speaker 2: or not? Sure?
- 32:36Speaker 1: Lisa also writes regarding Jacob, why are they so insistent
- 32:40Speaker 1: that he come back home? Let him have his gap here,
- 32:43Speaker 1: so to speak, and come home when he's ready. He
- 32:45Speaker 1: has lived in two different time periods and has gone
- 32:48Speaker 1: through a lot. Allow him space to find himself away
- 32:51Speaker 1: from the pond drama.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I kind of agree with.
- 32:54Speaker 1: That, but also I kind of can see Dell and
- 32:57Speaker 1: Kat and Alice wanting to keep him close because he's
- 33:00Speaker 1: been gone for so long. Yeah, and one thing that
- 33:03Speaker 1: they don't we know, but we don't know that well
- 33:06Speaker 1: is he's gone for a year. He's not gone for
- 33:09Speaker 1: a short period of time. He's gone for Alice's entire
- 33:13Speaker 1: senior year of high school, and we kind of forget
- 33:16Speaker 1: that that whole year has passed in the background in
- 33:19Speaker 1: between seasons. And I agree Jacob should be allowed to
- 33:23Speaker 1: have some space, he should be allowed to recover. But
- 33:25Speaker 1: he also did it without any communication. Yeah, there was
- 33:30Speaker 1: no hey, I'm doing okay. There was no check in,
- 33:34Speaker 1: which made it harder. It made them feel like they
- 33:36Speaker 1: had lost him again. Yes, let's wrap it up. Talking
- 33:39Speaker 1: about some pop culture references in this episode, Wayne says
- 33:41Speaker 1: two time travel references came to me while watching Elliott
- 33:44Speaker 1: and Vick. Gave me Tony Stark and Howard Stark vibes
- 33:47Speaker 1: from Avengers End Game.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Never seen it. I have no idea what he's referring to.
- 33:51Speaker 1: There is a time travel scene where Tony Stark meets
- 33:54Speaker 1: his father in an elevator.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I'm impressed that you know that.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I live in a Marvel household Fern relaying Tessa's
- 34:04Speaker 1: warning sounded like Back to the Future two and Rich
- 34:08Speaker 1: eighties Biff talking to Marty about Gray's Sports Almanac. That's
- 34:13Speaker 1: another movie that I have watched against my will many times.
- 34:17Speaker 1: I've only really seen the first one. Oh, I mean
- 34:20Speaker 1: I've seen the other two back I couldn't remember any
- 34:23Speaker 1: like scenes from it. I can't it's a stupid train
- 34:26Speaker 1: in damn episode three. Yeah, can't stand the third one.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I don't like a Western, especially goofy.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Biff Hey McFly they call him theyn't call him McFly,
- 34:39Speaker 2: they call him Clean Eastwood.
- 34:42Speaker 1: All right, friends, that is a wrap on this week's
- 34:44Speaker 1: Listener Mailbag. We'll be back on Monday with our recap
- 34:47Speaker 1: of The Way Home, episode six, season four. Can't wait
