- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Yukon Football Coaches Show. Another week ahead
- 0:03Speaker 1: of us with the Florida International the Panthers coming into
- 0:07Speaker 1: the Rent for a three point thirty kickoff on Saturday,
- 0:10Speaker 1: cancer awareness game. That's a big one. You'll notice a
- 0:14Speaker 1: lot of you know what, the players and coaches will
- 0:16Speaker 1: be wearing to commemorate people in their lives that have
- 0:21Speaker 1: forced to faced the dangers and the real challenge of cancer.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And we'll talk to coach about that in a second here,
- 0:28Speaker 1: but Jim, welcome aboard this one. Three road games, three
- 0:34Speaker 1: one possession games. Every game comes down to the final seconds.
- 0:39Speaker 1: It feels like when Yukon goes on the road, but
- 0:42Speaker 1: the difference is it was a happy ride home after
- 0:46Speaker 1: this one.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I mean, the objective is to win a game by
- 0:52Speaker 3: any means necessary. We were able to get that done.
- 0:56Speaker 3: You know, I don't think anyone was just completely satisfied
- 0:59Speaker 3: with the way we formed, but a lot to be
- 1:02Speaker 3: learned and you'd rather learn it and a win.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Winning on the road is hard.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Winning in that environment is you know, challenging, and our
- 1:10Speaker 3: guys they were able.
- 1:11Speaker 2: To respond, so.
- 1:13Speaker 3: A lot to be learned. Nobody's satisfied, but everyone was
- 1:17Speaker 3: happy with the win. You were on the on the plane.
- 1:19Speaker 3: It was really nice to get on an airplane after
- 1:21Speaker 3: a game with the Yukon football team and here the
- 1:23Speaker 3: players excited.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, there's nothing like winning, that's for sure. You can't
- 1:28Speaker 1: substitute for that interesting game. In a lot of ways
- 1:31Speaker 1: that the special teams came into play. I mean on
- 1:35Speaker 1: a number of occasions Buffalo, you know, getting a hand
- 1:39Speaker 1: on a punt and then faking a punt and running
- 1:43Speaker 1: for a first down, and then Yukon going with Chris
- 1:46Speaker 1: Freeman punting the ball later in the game instead of
- 1:49Speaker 1: a field goal attempt. I feel like sometimes you get
- 1:52Speaker 1: in these games and those little, little game little plays
- 1:56Speaker 1: can determine what's going to happen in the final result.
- 2:00Speaker 1: It's kind of unusual to get in a game like that,
- 2:03Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I mean there was some significant special teams plays in
- 2:07Speaker 3: that game. Certainly getting the punt tip it's not something
- 2:11Speaker 3: that's acceptable, the fake punt against us, and really that
- 2:15Speaker 3: was against our defense.
- 2:16Speaker 2: We were in defense.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Safe, which is really completely and utterly unacceptable and just
- 2:23Speaker 3: cannot happen. You know, those things just they're just they're
- 2:26Speaker 3: inexcusable their breakdowns on our part as a staff, and
- 2:31Speaker 3: we have to do a better job with our players
- 2:34Speaker 3: of making them understand the significance of every play.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But you know, Chris with a.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Really nice punt off the field goal formation to pin
- 2:44Speaker 3: them down there on the nine yard line, because we
- 2:46Speaker 3: were kind of in that no man's land in terms
- 2:48Speaker 3: of when you go forward it you kick a field goal,
- 2:51Speaker 3: and so that was our best option and he did
- 2:53Speaker 3: a nice job putting it out on the nine and
- 2:55Speaker 3: then certainly you know everybody executing at the end to
- 2:58Speaker 3: get that field goal made to win the game was big.
- 3:01Speaker 2: You know, so special teams.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You go on the road, you've got to play good
- 3:06Speaker 3: special teams, and we were pretty average. But when we
- 3:09Speaker 3: needed to make a kick and a punt, we were
- 3:11Speaker 3: able to do it. And I thought that, you know,
- 3:15Speaker 3: we punted the ball okay, but you know when we
- 3:19Speaker 3: needed to hit one, we hit one to pin them
- 3:21Speaker 3: down there.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yeah, the drive to win the game was pretty exciting.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I imagine on the sideline where you were, it was
- 3:29Speaker 1: nerve wracking. Obviously you had very little time, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: fifty nine seconds when you got the ball, fifty three seconds.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I mean, the recap of that was pretty amazing to me.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I mean ten plays run in fifty three seconds to
- 3:43Speaker 1: get in field goal range. I mean, and it took
- 3:47Speaker 1: not only that the fact that you were moving quickly
- 3:50Speaker 1: and getting up to the ball and getting it snapped
- 3:52Speaker 1: all that stuff, but also you had to have great
- 3:54Speaker 1: plays by some people. Right Juice Faren made a great catch.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I mean you needed a lot of club much things
- 4:00Speaker 1: to happen to get that done.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah, we had two really big third down plays, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 3: Juice makes the catch on a nice throw by Joe
- 4:07Speaker 3: when he felt a little pressure, John Nider making the
- 4:11Speaker 3: catch on third down, Joe just having great composure, everyone
- 4:16Speaker 3: having confidence and the composure to get that drive done
- 4:21Speaker 3: on the sidelines. You know, everybody was composed, in control,
- 4:25Speaker 3: understood the situation.
- 4:27Speaker 2: We were ready to go with a hurry up field
- 4:28Speaker 2: goal if we needed to.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I thought the five yard game by Sky, the nice
- 4:33Speaker 3: throw on the out to our sidelines is really significant.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Although when you look at the kick that that Chris
- 4:39Speaker 3: put through, it would have been good from price sixty.
- 4:41Speaker 3: But no, we work on that stuff every week, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 3: twice a week we do two minute drills and I'm
- 4:47Speaker 3: not sure many people do that, and so our guys
- 4:50Speaker 3: they understand situational football, and that's really important. You know
- 4:54Speaker 3: that your players. When your players invest in understanding situational
- 4:57Speaker 3: football and you get in that situation in the game,
- 5:00Speaker 3: it helps. I mean, we did the same thing at
- 5:02Speaker 3: Syracuse to get it to overtime. You know, we've we've
- 5:05Speaker 3: done a nice job offensively in two minute situations. Where
- 5:09Speaker 3: we're not doing a good job in two minute situations
- 5:13Speaker 3: is defensively, and we've we've got to get better there.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's letting, not letting the other team. The other
- 5:20Speaker 1: team gets some credit to their drive late to get
- 5:23Speaker 1: a score with a minute to go was could have
- 5:26Speaker 1: been a huge emotional letdown. That's what I was impressed
- 5:29Speaker 1: with him and you Gohn didn't They didn't sag, you
- 5:31Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I think that's a credit to
- 5:34Speaker 1: coaching staff, players all that didn't sag. The other team
- 5:37Speaker 1: scored with fifty nine seconds left to tie the thing up,
- 5:40Speaker 1: but you were able to bounce back and get three points.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I think there was just great confidence on our sidelines
- 5:46Speaker 3: with our offensive coaching staff and our offensive players, in
- 5:50Speaker 3: our in our field goal unit, that we were going
- 5:52Speaker 3: to get an opportunity. When you've got a guy like
- 5:54Speaker 3: Joe Fiano and he's throwing to the guys that he's
- 5:57Speaker 3: throwing do and he's got the guys up front of
- 5:59Speaker 3: the protecting. I mean they protected well all day against
- 6:02Speaker 3: the number one pass rush team in the country. There
- 6:05Speaker 3: was just a lot of confidence that we get it done.
- 6:07Speaker 3: We've done it probably we've probably had over one thousand
- 6:11Speaker 3: since since spring. We've probably had over one thousand snaps
- 6:14Speaker 3: of two minute dro in practice, so we know what
- 6:19Speaker 3: to do.
- 6:20Speaker 2: You know, now, that doesn't mean it's going to happen.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I mean there's a defense out there putting up a fight,
- 6:23Speaker 3: but in terms of having the confidence of knowing how
- 6:25Speaker 3: to operate in that situation, there was just no hesitation.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah, practice makes perfect in anything, whether you're practicing piano
- 6:34Speaker 1: or playing football. All right, Coach Jimura with us. We'll
- 6:37Speaker 1: back with more on the Yukon football coaches showing a
- 6:40Speaker 1: moment on lear field.
