Transcript
- 0:05[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the show.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_02]: Others receiving votes over reaction Sunday edition and wow, there's a lot to over react to.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_02]: Have 40 joined as usual by my SI colleagues, Brian Fisher and Kevin Sweeney after a wild week two.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: We had gold posts in a pond and still water.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why, but it was to throw the gold posts in water after they tarmed down that mystifies me.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, we had that.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: We had a revival in the big house after an embarrassing pseudo win the week before.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_02]: We had an incredible comeback in Austin on the 40 acres.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_02]: Plenty of other things happening elsewhere.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: But gentlemen, let's start really with those three kind of tent pole events, I thought.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: Shocking results in various ways in iterations.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: I think for Oklahoma, Michigan, Oregon, Oklahoma State and Ohio State Texas.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna start, let's start with you, Brian.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: You were in the big house.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: what's the most shocking result out of those three?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: What surprised you the most?
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, in terms of shocking, I will go with Oregon and Oklahoma State, but I think the surprise was definitely how Michigan bounced back.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they were pushed around by Western Michigan, like they were out physical, you know, and they did not look anything, any sort of the Michigan team that we kind of expected, especially out of Kyle Whittingham.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, to have that response,
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was maybe one of the more impressive if we'll go that way performances of the weekend.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you look at Bryce Underwood, he bounced back.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this was not, you know, the cleanest of games.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this was straight out of the 1970s in terms of it looks like wing T offenses, you know, how do the shotgun there?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was it was very much grounded pound.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Let's place in some defense.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think the score kind of reflected that in terms of Michigan winning 1710, but I thought this was a very impressive bounce back for for the Wolverines and you got to give a lot of credit to Bryce Underwood for using his legs carrying Michigan at times.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think this was, you know, you've been just kind of winning him.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you kind of start slow maybe have a little bit of setback early on, but you do end up getting some scouts at the end, and this was, you know, Once again, reaffirming, I think for a lot of folks there at the big house that, hey, the program is okay.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Last week was a little bit of an overreaction, and we can kind of move forward now, and so I think there was, you know, a lot to take away from that when they're in the big house.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I can't be more shocked still by Oklahoma State and maybe I maybe I'm victim to a week one over reaction right in that had they looked the way a lot of people thought they would look against Tulsa, then this would have been like everybody's speaking trendy upset pick here comes the superstar quarterback and the dynamic offense and you're going on the road and it's a little dicey like
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that we probably took too much stock in a really poor performance, but it was all we had in terms of a data point for this Oklahoma state group.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: And again, you talk about response, right?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you give Eric Morris all the credit in the world for the way that his group got up off the mat after last week and played fearless football, right?
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: At the end of the day, those dudes fly around, they made plays on both sides of the ball.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like their defense was excellent.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was a conversation, again, if you're talking about the pre-season Oklahoma State Conversation, it was man, Mr. Makers going to toss the ball around the yard and they're going to score some points, but this might be like old school big 12, 61 to 58 every week.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again, if you don't give away to touchdowns offensively by Oklahoma State, this is the blowout because of the way their defense played and there's a lot to, you know, talk about with Oregon and get they have, they have a lot of work to do seemingly that the struggles against boys, he certainly are magnified now that you play extremely poorly yet again.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: But man, to choose CA top 10 team get just handled by an Oklahoma State team and program that has just been so miserable for what the better part of three years, that was a shock to me.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: And you kept waiting for the other shooting drop and it never did.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was a quintessential college football upset.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, it's pretty wild.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: The guys, the teams you mentioned, Michigan and Oklahoma State with new coaches last week, total disasters.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe the number one and two teams in the country should be Western Michigan and Tulsa.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: But probably not, that's probably not the way it's gonna work out.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: It is to see the week over week, turnaround, so both those teams made was astonishing.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, Oklahoma State's program had just been
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: brutal.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they had not beaten an FBS team since September 7th, 2024.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: Two years.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: And a few days.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: So that is a really long time for a program that had been in really good shape under my gundy.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: So amazing there.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, they, they, the gold post ended up along with a lot of other
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like a sorority pond or something, I think.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I do, I would like somebody to explain that to me, like in Tennessee, they win, they take on the goalpost, they immediately go throw them in the Tennessee River.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think Vanderbilt did the same thing.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: Don't throw your goalposts in the river or the lake.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, keep them, cut them up and get your heart self-ahacks off, cut off of one yard or one three foot or two foot of section of yellow goalpost and keep it as opposed to trying to sink it like buried treasure or something.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I would like to have a discussion with the young people of America what they do with their goalpost.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: But you guys hit on two of them.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to hit the third major shocker.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: Ohio State blowing a 20 point lead Texas rallying to beat them 2423.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: I immediately I asked Bill Rubinoett who doesn't excellent job covering the Columbus dispatch the last time.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: The last state had blown at 20.0 and he knew, you know, this is against Nebraska in 2011.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: Braxton Miller was the quarterback he got hurt during the game.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_02]: So there were extenuating circumstances.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_02]: I was also the Luke Fickle interim year when they went six and seven.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's really the only time this century that Ohio State hasn't been excellent.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: This team, for this team to blow a 20 point lead, maybe says something about Ohio State and we'll get to that.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: But it also says a lot about Texas, I think, to rally, to get up off the deck when there was no hint that they were gonna come back and win until all of a sudden they started coming back and winning.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: And then when they did, the most impressive thing to me like they didn't need turnovers, they didn't need
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: They went for two fourth downs.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: They got them both huge decisions and huge plays by Archmany.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't have 50 yard plays.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: They just executed for about 35 consecutive plays offensively.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: Might even have been more than that.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Might have been over 40.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: And Ohio State wilted late in the game and the heat was really, really hot.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: And terrible loss for Ohio State, but just a hugely validating win, I think, for Texas, archmeaning.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we all know all the storylines.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: And he had been, you know, arguably the most type for Crupe ever last year.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: He was pretty bad, and then he was pretty good, but he was not anybody's idea of a savior.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: This year, start off in this game, these guys are dropping balls, they're fumbling, just looks, it's a mess.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: He starts missing some players, and then all of a sudden he turns it around and makes all the plays.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: And afterwards, his reaction on the field, I thought, said a lot about how much it meant to him.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: given I think everything surrounding being archmating and I was fun to see the absolute joy on his face as that was trans, trans, whatever it was.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: It was unfolding.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, so three stunning games there.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: We talked fair amount about the winners.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about the losers for a minute.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk first of all.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: Let's start with Oklahoma.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: I was the earliest game.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: and what brand, what are we gonna do with John material?
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's not working very well, and the Oklahoma offense.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, it was not, and I mean, that was a rough watch.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I thought coming into the offices and you know, like there was a lot of talk around the suitors, like he was an improved quarterback.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: He was going to be better as a pastor, but this was the same old Oklahoma that we saw last year, unable to run the ball.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, struggled at times just to have that consistency offensively and you know, a lot of it does come down to John mid here.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, he throws the interception late that, you know, basically was the nail in the coffin for Oklahoma and look, I just, you know, I think it's this overall issue with the program.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's it's concerning to if you're a sooner's fan.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: And there were quite a few of them there in the big house the this past weekend.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like they took advantage of a few Michigan fans selling their tickets judging by the amount of red there at the stadium.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, like, they're going to be scratching their heads at this point in terms of, like, why did we extend brick medibles?
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: If this is the product that's going to be put out on the field, you know, there's no change from last year.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they can they can play decent defense.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they can get after quarterback at times.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, the offensive issues under been our buckle.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that is a consistency thing at this point, you know, they just cannot run the ball.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, John material whenever he gets pressure, you know, he holds onto the ball too long, ends up taking a sack or, you know, he just gets rushed in terms of his decision making, and that ends up being an issue.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: in terms of the passing game and making some of those consistent play.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I think for Oklahoma, there's some real concern moving forward because look, this was a game you kind of had to win.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at that SEC schedule that you have for the sooner, man, that it is a brutal one.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's the one thing that I think everybody said.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right, maybe this isn't improved team in terms of the talent level, but getting through that schedule, getting through that gauntlet in the SEC, you're going to have to win a game like this.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: And now there's no margin for error moving forward.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: But material is their leading russia both in attempts and yards, and I think that is probably as big a concern as anything with this offense, because again, like you mentioned the schedule, Brian, like, I mean, all right, New Mexico next week, hopefully you can not run material quite as much, but like the hits he is going to take at Georgia home Texas, like good Lord, man, like, like, I'm not sure what we're saving at this point, but like,
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: he is going to be so beat up by November when they're trying to play their most meaningful games and that that's to me is is a huge concern beyond the fact that their offense can't seem to move the football is that they are so reliant on his legs right now and again in part that is because he is not making great decisions with the football not getting out of his hands quick enough and he's taking unnecessary hits but yeah I mean look I do think that
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think Michigan's a very good defense.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: We saw that last week in in the surprise at the end, they were, they were in the game because of defense, they're going to have to continue to be that way, but yeah, not the step forward offensively you were expecting or hoping from material in this offense for Oklahoma and.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: as you said Brian, that the playoff states are massive because of what they still have to come.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I just don't see this offense being, you know, having a firepower to go win you a football game.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_01]: So the idea of having to rely on your defense every single night in the SEC.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Good luck.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that I mean, major problem, that for the for the record,
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: That was based off of getting into the playoff and then losing a to touch down lead at home to Alabama in the first round, I guess I mean.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm old enough to remember when Oklahoma won national championships under multiple coaches, Bob Stooth, Barry Switzer.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: uh... go all the way back to bud Wilkinson i thought they were over a war to the guy who's been okay pretty good and now there their their hitch to rent rent animals maybe things get better but the the offences train wreck uh... material one of the last eight passes he was one for eight for three yards and as brine noted served up the did devastating interception that basically gave the game to Michigan so
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the storyline he got bigger and bulkier in the off season will great to help him throw.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: Last year, a lot of his second half of the season struggles were written off to the thumb injury and surgery and recovery from that, which I thought was legitimate thing this year.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, man.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: He's not accurate.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's indecisive.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, he looks like a single wing quarterback.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it is run first, pass if I have to.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_02]: Hope I don't throw it to the wrong team.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: So it's tough watch right now for him and for Oklahoma.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: Ben R. Buckle, the offensive coordinators going to hear a whole lot about that performance for sure.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of coordinators, Oregon, two rookie coordinators replacing Tosh Lupoy who went to be the head coach at Cal and Will Stein who went to be the head coach at Kentucky.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: And they looked like a team with two rookie coordinators.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just shockingly gouged defensively by Oklahoma State and then couldn't come up with enough plays offensively combined that as Kevin learned to with the the struggle against Boise State.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: What are we to make of the ducks and where are they stand Kevin?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the concern level has to be pretty high.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: Just how discombobulated they looked offensively at points.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Dante more not being on the same page with receivers, even just like some difficulty, I thought, getting plays in, getting more and I was like pretty elementary stuff that you expect your veteran quarterback and a team with all this talent and a lot of experience talent to not run into and that was where they were.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: That it's a huge concern for me.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: I give landing a little bit of a benefit of the doubt
- 15:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think these, you know, they've had a lot of success promoting coordinators, right?
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Stein was, you know, had been in the building and, and they've, they trusted the people that had worked through and worked in the building in the past, it's worked.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: It just looks really sloppy right now and this was the type of game that you really can't afford to lose.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to roll into the playoff because they still have at USC, they still have at Ohio State.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: Those are two massively important games.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: You probably need to still one to feel at all comfortable on selection Sunday.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think they will be favored and either those games at the moment.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's just that game was so perplexing to me, and again, it reinforced some of the surprise that I had with the boys again, where I just was like, wait.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: Why can't Oregon, which was really high on its defense, gets stops?
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: Why is the offense not quite as cohesive as it should be with all the veteran pieces?
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: So some questions that need to be answered there, they will beat Portland State by like a hundred.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: And then as you said, they're at USC UCLA, and no means a cupcake.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: And then they get down, they have Ohio State and Michigan back to back later on.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: they're in a position where they need to show something.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: Ohio State showed plenty in the first three quarters.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: I thought played quite well, mostly.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't finish some drives, which turned out to be a sign of what was to come.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: And then Arthur Smith knew offensive coordinator.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: They could not figure out how to sustain, how to keep the ball,
- 17:25[SPEAKER_02]: And do anything in their last like four possessions, maybe five.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: And one thing that it like it always comes back to this with a house, stay for good reason.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: Why doesn't Jeremiah Smith have the ball?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: Because he destroyed Texas for the first half and even into the second half and then he got no catches in the fourth quarter.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: They did try.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: They tried to throw to him.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: They couldn't get them to him.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_02]: I was surprised they didn't just run a simple bubble or something to get him going and that never happened.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_02]: So Julian Sayon started to look
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: tentative and stressed out as things went along.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: We'll must change if I thought did a great job of just continuing to come with the different coverages and with pressures and to make saying uncomfortable, but for Ohio state, you're stopping able to run the ball.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: You stopped getting it to Jeremiah Smith.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I think Ryan Day's an excellent coach, but every once in a while,
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: his teams do things that make we wonder like what the hell is going on there like obviously the Michigan loss in 2025 was inexplicable this one the last quarter was seemed similar like we are just falling apart and we don't know what to do about it and I didn't think they did a very good job of just finding some just get one first down.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: could have really changed.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think the tenor of things and certainly changed the clock.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: So Ohio State did the very rational fan base still handle this extremely well, of course, very calm.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: and uh... it was pretty wild that a lot of fans in the building as they always do everywhere they go and they were pretty loud for most of the game all sent you and you can even hear Texas fans booing either themselves or or booing the Ohio State fans or whatever and then watching the Ohio State fans watch this slow motion collapse was uh... was wild
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, he hit up on the nail on the head there with with Arthur Smith and I think he deserves, you know, the lion share the blame at this point.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you look at not only not feeding Jeremiah Smith, I mean, like I feel like his stat line eight catches 164 yards and attached out almost did him a disservice because like that.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: He looked like the number one overall pick for long stretches of that game, and then they just kind of went away from him.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, not even that, like, you know, where was, you know, his supporting cats too in the passing game.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like Bo Jackson was the second leading, uh,
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: receiver in that game.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing for Chris and Rijunier, you know, Brandon McKinnis only had one catch in that game like there was not much of a supporting cast.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: There was just just Jeremiah Smith and as good as he was, you know, you would have thought right, Texas would have devoted some more resources to him.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: They did bracket him at at times during the second half in that game.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: All right, somebody should have stepped up and nobody stepped up for Ohio State.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that would probably be a little concerning, if you were a Buckeye's fan kind of looking, watching this game back is saying, we have a really highly paid and really good wide receiving core.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: Where was everybody else in that second half?
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, Jeremiah Smith is going to grab a lot of attention at times.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: And, you just saw
- 20:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, nobody really step up after that and you know, some of that is on Julian's and I think a lot of it is on our earthish myth, the new O.C.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: But like this, this is a game that lets face it.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: Texas Ohio State should not have a bloom.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to score 20 points on the first half and only three in the second, you know, that, that's going to do some serious concerns.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think you would have moving forward if you're a bucket of fans.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, as much as you could probably survive this loss in terms of the bigger picture of the playoff, you know, I think there's still some of those undercurrent of issues there, you know, in Columbus in terms of,
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: is Ryan Day ultimately the kind of kind of coach that can get us to another national title and as much as you could say yeah he has one ring on this finger maybe those some unique circumstances a couple years ago and you know for all the talent that he's a symbol there you know putting it together and making sure that this team in a particular is right back there in terms of the national title chase you know there's some more doubts about that I think in the Ohio State fanbase
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it was a shocker.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I do think they're waiting for one of these younger receivers to step up and be the Carnal Tate, be the abooka, they got some big reason their offenses have been so good.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: But last couple of years is it's just been hard to, it's been hard to lean on one guy.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it was very obvious in this game that there was not a second weapon that you trusted.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in the run game, longest run of the day for Ohio State was 11 yards.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be hard to win a lot of football games against elite teams.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: If you can't generate anything explosive in their own game, three yards per carry, that was concerning to me.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe more concerning than the receiver situation, because I'm such a believer in the talent in that room.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then the last thing, in the kicking, we haven't talked about the fact that they had a very makeable field goal to win the game, essentially.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's not over, but it would have been essentially over.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: Had Connor Hawkins made that kick.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like there have been a lot of very visible, very important miskicks in Ohio State, lower in the last several years.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I just don't know what you do.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like Connor Hawkins was very good at Baylor last year.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think one kick should define him, but that was a game.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: As soon as that kick missed was the moment you realized, like, oh man, Texas, Texas might actually have a chance to do this thing.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, that was surprising.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he made some big kicks earlier in the game, but that one, yes, was to end it, basically.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: Brandon Innes in particular, one catch 18 yards.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: See, Chris Henry Jr. is a freshman, I have expected more than we've gotten from him.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not, I don't have to keep play very much Saturday night.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: They certainly didn't target him, but in us was supposed to be a strong number two, and he was almost invisible throughout that game as well.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: So definitely some work to do there, Texas, I do think it should, I point I.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think Texas saved arch, saved sark, saved itself to a degree saved the SEC.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: I want to talk to you guys briefly about this, we saw the Oklahoma flop.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: If Texas had lost at home and especially gotten thumped as they were for quite a while, that would have been a tough one too against the big 10.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: Mississippi State did go route Minnesota in the Twin Cities.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: That was impressive.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: But these were the games that people had as yardstick games kind of a mixed bag for the SEC and the big ten on the weekend.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: You guys would you switch, which, which league are you putting on top right now if you had to rank him.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: Kevin.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think the SEC has earned that spot just in terms of.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: the big performances certainly the Ohio State come back by Texas is going to be defining.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I think if you look big picture at some of the results, I mean Mississippi State dominating that game is a great sign for Mississippi State.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think I just think overall the top of the SEC
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: Now that Oregon looks a little bit dented, the top of the SEC looks as strong as the top of the big ten, and I think we know that the bottom of the SEC is probably has a little bit more teeth than the bottom of the big ten, I mean, you can miss us to be state routes Minnesota Rutgers is in.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: deeply dire straits will still allow us to do get home yesterday that was not a great result for the big ten.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: The league has just not been awesome so far in these powerful matchups so I think the SEC has to have the edge early on.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly the Texas results will solidify that for me but I think I would have leaned SEC even before that despite the two very visible potential results there on Saturday.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not going to disagree, and I would be kind of curious, you know, for the Texas Game of Duty, or if, you know, they did not commit those turnovers early, you know, if the helmet, you know, interception does not happen, and Texas ends up scoring, and this actually becomes a little more convincing, if we're actually really talking, you know, about the SEC having a great weekend, because, you know, as much as the issues were there in the big tin, you know, you're right Kevin, and like I think the upper class, you know, kind of the upper
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I had a pretty strong showing and even the teams that maybe didn't or we're taking it easy.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I Miss you.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look look at their struggles at time.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it gets out Louisiana Tech at home, and especially in the red zone like they looked like a team That was looking ahead at bigger picture things almost kind of the same way.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, takes the end
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think that was another surprising result in terms of the margin of victory that the Aggies had down there in college station.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a pretty good, I think Arizona State team, you know, that pushed them for, for, for, for three and a half quarters until that defense really took over, you know, yes, the Oklahoma win or the, Oklahoma loss was was disappointing to Michigan, but yeah, outside of that.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: Alabama, certainly in the second half, looked much better, and looks like another contender that can add to that group there at the top of the SEC.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think Tennessee is going to be a threat to knock off somebody every week, especially given the style of play that they have offensively.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, you know, the bottom.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: of the SEC is probably as bad as it has been in the last couple of years.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Vanderbilt has not looked good.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: They struggle against Delaware.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: Arkansas got, got race there in Utah, you know, like the bottom of the SEC, probably is not as good as it has been these last couple of years, but.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think that middle pack, you know, the upper half of the SEC is a lot stronger.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: Consequently, the big tin and, you know, that kind of section of those standings.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's gotten, you know, pretty noticeably worse.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's, yes, it's a small sample size building.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: I got two games to go on, but I think that's kind of the difference in the two leagues.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yet the top is kind of come down from the big tin and then also that middle class in the SEC looks a lot stronger than it has, you know, at least last couple of years.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, some bad losses for the big 10.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously the Oregon loss, Rutgers is a disaster, but Kevin, I'm glad you brought up Illinois.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's kind of game Illinois.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: one easily in Durham last year, you take out Darian Mensa from Duke and then they still go to Champaign and beat Elanoa.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a good result.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: Iowa did get past Iowa State, but that was dicey and Iowa State is basically the entire team is in state college.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: So very little expected from them.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know, we'll see, I think Indiana's going to end up being damn good, not too worried about them.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: The California schools may be good.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: Washington was not great against Utah State.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: So right now I'm a little underwhelmed by the big 10 and pretty impressed by the SEC.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: No, you know, like nobody that I expected to be.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: Good, doesn't look good so far.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see there, obviously Georgia hasn't played anybody yet, but I have a pretty strong feeling Georgia's gonna end up being really good again.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see how it plays out a little further, but an important weekend, I think, for the SEC to re-establish some credibility.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: One other SEC team played in a game of some note, Friday night, Missouri Kansas,
- 29:24[SPEAKER_02]: Resumption of an a truly ancient rivalry that does indeed in terms of the states go back to the civil war and Kansas decided to take it there specifically the Kansas athletic director and the Kansas football social media ex site account and
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: went into at least part of the history of J. Hawkers and Quantrill's raid to burn down Lawrence and all kinds of other civil war history.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: I will say this.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I'm a Missouri alumnant and I am well aware of the history of the the entire thing, right?
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you're a Missouri fan, you've probably been called a slaver by a Kansas fan, because that's part of fan talk is, you know, for some reason, what happened in 1860s is applicable to the 21st century.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: When the AD starts up with it, I got a problem.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: I got a little bit of a problem, because that to me is a cheap shot, and it is.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: bringing to bear things that have absolutely no relation on the current status of either school.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: And that bothered me and it sure bothered Eli Drinkwitz who threw into the end zone in the final seconds to try to add one more touchdown while up 17 and then afterwards said that he thought it was embarrassing what Kansas did and he was trying to embarrass them.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: Guys, I'm going to take off my alum hat now, and I'm going to let you guys who are perhaps better remove from this.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: Tell me Bad move by Kansas and what about the reaction from drink wits Kevin.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: I will say this first off
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think that is the first hyped video I've ever seen that has significantly increased my chance of watching the game.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like I've watched so many of these.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: I love them.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's usually not the thing that's moving the needle.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: That was actually, that was the first time.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: One of these videos has been like,
- 31:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, this this is different now like this is one I'm going to have to watch and I'm going to have to see the scene and it seemed like it was quite the scene I saw there was you know Missouri players flipping fans off before the game they stole the drum that was awesome like it was a perfect rivalry football does it go a little far.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: I do think it really captured the energy of the rivalry and captured the energy of the game.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I think in a college sports world that increasingly feels sort of corporate and removed, I appreciated that there was a little bit of extra edge to it.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my thoughts, but did it go far?
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it probably went a little far.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think somebody tweeted this that, you know, I don't recall who it was, but like this might have been the only hype video that could not be shown in a classroom in either state at this point.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: Given given the nature of things and you know, it was a little bit far and I am surprised given the the nature of college athletics nowadays that the necessary approvals ended up having there for Missouri, but I do like there's there's a bit of it.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there is a bit of venom in this rivalry.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was good for that to at least come out a little bit.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: Especially given that this was kind of the last in the docket for the next couple of years.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm glad that, you know, Ken's is lean into it.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Lynne Sipold was probably particularly happy about things in terms of, you know, the school kind of writing some checks that he had enough caching.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: and not doing that in this game.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was, I think it probably did give chances a little bit of a juice early on, but I think the better team did end up winning.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was fun to see Isaiah Marshall.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like every scene like every play, it was dazzling in both the good and bad respects there for the J-Hawks, which is gonna probably add to the intrigue, around this program moving forward in a big 12 play.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I do wish, you know, fans would not not necessarily fans, but even the programs of self would lean into rather is like this, maybe they took a little bit too far, you know, to Pat's point, but, you know, I do like that there's, you know, a little bit of animosity and some angst and that's kind of reflected in terms of both sides leading into this game.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I'm glad we had it, I wish we would have rather is like this happened
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this, this, this shouldn't be a series that, you know, has, has fits and spurts here and there.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this, this should be an every year thing.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I think seeing, seeing that, you know, seeing the passion from both sides.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, hopefully that does a lot of the schools to, to themselves say, hey, we need to make sure that we are playing this every single year.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it's every single year on campus.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to St. Louis.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to Kansas City.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to play this on campus every single year.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that should be good for college football if they end up doing that.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, look, it's, it's a bitter rivalry.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_02]: Clearly, I think some people had, it didn't have a full appreciation of that necessarily.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: Before, maybe you do now.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_02]: So great, great job public service.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_02]: They're Travis Goff by associating a 2026 college football team with slavery, excellent, excellent move.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway,
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: Eli Drinkwood's got the last word, Missouri got the win, and it was another good moment for the SEC.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, fellas, we had these major happenings, right?
- 35:14[SPEAKER_02]: And happening say the events results that will probably resonate all the way through selection Sunday and the playoff.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_02]: If we have a 2014 playoff next year, which appears to be increasingly possible, if not likely, how much does that ruin what happened yesterday?
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: Brian.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think quite a bit, you know, maybe not necessarily in the moment of a game like Texas or Ohio State, but certainly kind of the lead up and, you know, kind of coming out of it, and you know, you look at the game that I was at in terms of Michigan, Oklahoma, like that would have had like zero impact, you know, on the national title picture on play up picture, you know, yes, you could say, all right, it was for seating.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: you know, potentially, but like Oklahoma would have had, you know, that was a get out of a jail free card, you know, in a 2014 playoff era.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you know, in the 12th team era, that game had real stakes.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think that probably still the case, you know, in terms of, you know, some of these other games that we've talked about and we'll talk about, you know, on the second
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: better day, but I understand that AD's that conference commissioners, they want to say, you know what, if we do end up expanding, yes, it will reward the teams, I don't really believe that in terms of there's been a lot of money, they should get the taste of the playoff, you know, some sort of reward.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if fans kind of look at that and I think we'll see that reflected in the NCAA tournament that is expanded coming up, you know, the teams are still going to want wins, the teams are still going, you know, you're your program to get deeper into the tournament there in March madness.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think the same thing will happen if we do end up expanding in the playoffs.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: But I just...
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure that these mega matchups will have as much teeth in this era because fans will come to be accustomed to saying, all right, well, that loss was great.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: All right, we'll move on, you know, because our goals are still out there.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_00]: There's still a lot, and I don't think that's, you know, that the stakes in college football,
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like that is what has built the sport these last couple of decades, you know, having stakes in every single game, you know, trying to be perfect for every single weekend, you know, I think that was something that a lot of teams striped for and produced some really good national champions in the past.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: I just I don't see that happening, you know, in 2014 era and so I think, you know, we can like this where let's say there was not a whole lot of these big time
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think there could have been a little bit of shine taking off of them if we had a 24 team playoff and sort of a 12 teamer.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_01]: Let me play Devils Advocate here, Brian.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: Ohio State Texas was amazing.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: The stakes were huge because it was a massive, you know, just a massive game every part of it.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I've already found the sidelines, the crowd.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think it would have still felt really big and I don't think that game felt like a playoff a limit, or by any sense, like this isn't the fortune there anymore.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: Both those seem to be both, we all still expect to be in the college from a playoff, and if they don't, it's because they lost again and again, right?
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: And you go down the list, I think there's a lot of games where all of a sudden, like,
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, 24 would have meant a lot.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Oregon losing wouldn't have been as significant, but Oklahoma State winning would have been huge, right?
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma State having this win, they're still not making the 12th team play up.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like Oklahoma State fans could wake up this morning and a 24th team play up for a thinking they have a chance to be in that party.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: Right Arizona State are soon to be Arizona BYU was an awesome football game.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: There was a lot going on in that window.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: I watched a lot of it.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: that both teams probably are on the outside looking in in 12, they're in in 24, but like that game would have been for everything.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: Iowa would have been fighting for its life, not just because they don't want to lose to Iowa State, but because they are right on the edge of it, right?
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think every week you would have that.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I do look, I fully get, and I totally agree with the idea that like urgency is everything in college football, and I don't love the idea of
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think when you watch a full slate like yesterday, I think get the zoom out the picture beyond the two to three biggest games of the day and think about all the games I would have had serious impact.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: where I don't, I don't think 24 would, would ruin, and I think would make a lot of those games a lot more entertaining, a lot more interesting.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: Even if, yes, maybe a little less juice for Oklahoma Michigan, but look, Oklahoma Michigan may well be like a 2014 playoff playing game at this stage with the way that they played.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: We're like, we don't really know where either a team is at.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not rushing to 24, we've talked about this on the pod.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: That is not my prerogative, but I do think on a day like yesterday with the way that it's slate laid out.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I would have minded having more teams feel like they were playing for something really, really serious.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, that's good devil's advocate work.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: You're completely wrong, but it's good devil's advocate work.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_02]: I look, I hate 24 Oklahoma State is absolutely in the playoff picture.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: They love to be in the big 12 win the big 12 go to the playoff.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, if I think the extra beds are going to the big 12, I got bad news for you.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they end up getting two teams in.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe the ACC gets the second team in, but more than likely, who's getting in Iowa, Tennessee, you know, maybe, I mean, some of those teams may be fine, maybe good, but I do think like, I think both Oklahoma and Michigan are pretty mediocre teams.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: And,
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: There should be bigger stakes when two mediocre teams play.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: Then if they bugle, they come out of this.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, we might be fine.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to play off.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: We can play.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: We can scrape around and get eight and be eight and four.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_02]: Oklahoma and get them the play off.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: don't get don't reward them don't reward mediocre teams or slightly above average teams with a feel good bid that is the rely a quest bull dressed up as a playoff.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know that's that's the thing that kills me and that the reasoning from the IDs and the commissioners as well.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: As you know, the expenditure is so big to try to be good and football.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, okay.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a little risk involved.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to spend money and guess why not everybody gets to go to the playoff when you spend money.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, but that's this is this this mentality of like we deserve it because we just threw money around.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: kills me.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, we will, we'll see where this thing goes.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_02]: It sounds like 24 is coming.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe coming soon.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously not for this season, but for next year, but we'll follow.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: That story is a goes real quick.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: One other thing, and then we're going to get to, we're going to hear not the Heisman or we're going to fire some people.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: But first, who do you rank number one right now, Kevin?
- 42:02[SPEAKER_02]: Who's you number one team?
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: Texas has the best win.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: Texas has maybe the most talent.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: I got Texas.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not disagree.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's who I put on number one on my ballot.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, look, you talk about the resume, you talk about the talent, you talk about the team, you talk about being in one of the power two leagues, you know, all the boxes are checked, you know, their protects is in.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a team, let's face it, you know,
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: this is a team that could be number one for the rest of the season.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not going to say they're going to run the table by any stretch of the imagination.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_00]: We saw some of the issues in that first half and that will probably come to bite them.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: I know, uh, start, start talked about.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: We cannot play that way.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when we're playing in the SEC, when we're playing Oklahoma or Tennessee or Ole Miss or Florida or LSU, but I think for right now, this this program, this team, you know, it, it's one of the most expensive rosers in the country.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like that during that second half and I think that they've definitely earned that number one ranking moving forward.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: And you're ahead most of the game.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_02]: I go them one two and probably LSU three at this point.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: But on September 13th, it really doesn't matter.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: So that's the good news there.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: All right, fellas, who won the Heisman this weekend?
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: Give me one player that if you had to give it out today, who you given it to, Brian?
- 43:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think I might go to your master maker.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, you talk about nails in that game against Oregon.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like it seemed like every time they needed a big play, you just heard that's to make or makes the play, you know, like, I mean, it was impressive.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he was just an entirely different quarterback from last week against Tulsa.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know, in terms of the throwing, in terms of his ability to scramble, like, I mean, you want to talk about, meeting the moment there in still water.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, like, it was funny after the game.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, this the best moment in my life.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, all of like 19 years old, and he's saying that.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I couldn't understand why you got swept up, and those kind of emotions afterwards.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, truthfully, he earned it in terms of the plays that he made.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: He was a big reason.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: I will say the two post game interviews of the weekend were Mr. Maker who looked, I mean, straight off the farm.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Just loves my boy, love my boys, greatest day of my life.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: Probably had a great day afterwards if I had to guess.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then our two, like, looks like he's from an Hollywood movie.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: standing up there.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a great nine-nost and voice.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: We played great.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a great nine-nost and I mean those were both like just incredible college football images.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like the only way it could have been better was if Arch was playing for USC instead of Texas.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like yeah, just looked a little more USC than Texas but it was it was it was great.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think Arch is the
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he talked about a high spend moment, the way that he let that come back, the confidence that he played with, how free he looked in the fourth quarter.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: He was excellent against a defense that was terrific.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yes, we talked about the Texas mistakes during the game.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I was a defense looks very, very good.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: Probably better than I expected early in the season, and arch just caught them up in the fourth quarter.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, they have a lot of skill around him,
- 45:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: And the the the weirdest post game interview was Sark with Holly Roe.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_02]: I don't really go with that.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: No idea.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't know what happened, you know.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: Here in the, in 2026 coverage of college football, could you get on the field afterwards?
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: Hell, no, you couldn't get anywhere near anything.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_02]: And so I didn't even know that transpired until, you know, after I'd filed my story.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, seeing all this.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I, I don't know what was up with that.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: And he blew off the interview at halftime, too.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was, it was, it was just bizarre.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was like, Stark, and he went on game day in the morning, too.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so like, you know, I don't think it was like a, an ESPN relationship type of thing.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it was like, Stark in the broadcast.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he was like anti that booth, it seemed like because he, he blew off the interview at halftime.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: He said two words to Holly at the end of the game.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like that, that doesn't seem,
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: That does not jive with the Steve Farkese in that I've known over the years, and so I'm going to be very curious to see if he will address that Moving forward because it was just, you know, like that was out of character, you know, but by by a big time You know, head coach that you thought would have used that opportunity to kind of sell his program self You know, what his big win was, you know, for him and his team, but that was not the case.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: They're awesome.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: by any stretch of the imagination, and I am going to be curious, you know, if you will address that in the coming days, because it just, it was a bad look number one, but also it was just, you know, strangely add a character for someone like Steve.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: But a producer can't drop this in and he said that they messed up the halftime interview and Lauren Rutledge law Rutledge apologized because they messed it up and then Sark apparently was waiting to do the post game with Holly and they had a technical air or whatever and then he had to leave.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_02]: There was, I mean, it was weird like,
- 47:24[SPEAKER_02]: there had been some bi-play it looked like before they actually went on the air.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe that was maybe that was the case.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I know this, like he was jacked up after the game, clearly.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: And he was jacked up at halftime because they played so bad.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, we'll see, I'm not going to turn Feather Sark for one post game interaction there.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to give the Highsman to Austin Simmons, Missouri quarterback, who
- 47:49[SPEAKER_02]: led the team back, led him to 38 points overall, 24 in the second half, transfer from Mississippi.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: He got Trinidad Chamble's Wally Pipped him, and so he moves on to Missouri, and he played really, really well, 19 out of 29, 292 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: I was throwing absolute bullets across the middle to Donovan, Old Bote, and to Caden Lee, and came through in his first big moment for Missouri.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm going there for my husband, who we firing this week, Kevin?
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm stepping away from the the biggest games that I'm firing PJ Fleck.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: They got absolutely destroyed by Mississippi State, the final score, maybe not entirely indicative.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: This was not competitive really from the jump.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think Mississippi State's improved.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_01]: I've sung the praises of Camario Taylor.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think we will continue to do that on this podcast.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: You're just uncompetitive at home in a game that you probably were, I think they were favored in very slightly, but probably should be like comfortably beating Mississippi State at the stage of the program.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: You have to go to Washington.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: You have Michigan coming up.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guess I don't Michigan's not very good.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_01]: It just they can just follow like a where are we going game for for PJ and the and the gofes so interested to see what the the rest of the year looks like but not not encouraging science for it seem that there's a lot of excitement right they brought back one of the best fence of players in the league a lot of excitement on that side of the ball obviously bring back shake drink Lindsay they're talking about him being a first round pick I mean Dan the these games separate who's still like serious dudes Corey Taylor's the serious dude not sure drink Lindsay is yet
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, you know, I think it's too too low hanging fruit at this point to, uh, to fire Greg Chiano after, uh, the, the state of the program there at Rutgers.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go with, uh, I'm going to go with the Oregon and we could, we could just fire the whole staff, you know, at this point, you know, Dan Landing, Drew Maranger, Chris Hampton, the DC, um, like that, that was for, for the amount of money that that program has been on this team in particular to, to look like that.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: I get it's for throat trip of the season, but like this was a veteran group, and they look nothing like the talent level suggests, you know, they're in Eugene.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you look, the defensive line that we thought was one of one of if not the best in the country has been pushed around for two games now.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's coaching.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's not just talent that's coaching right there.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, just to lose a game like this, to go from
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't remember what the score exactly was last year, but it was like 66 to 3, like, you know, completely uncompetitive to end up losing that game this year like that, that is all encroaching.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, I think there's some real questions for day and landing in terms of yes, I understand that, you know, you want to promote from within you know those guys, but then, you know, at least early on this at this point, it looks
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's a bit like, you know, things are, you know, a potential miss there in terms of the coaching staff moves, there's offseason, there for the ducks.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take these.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_02]: You want to fire Brent Finnebles and his offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's just a brutal performance.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_02]: The running game is okay when it's John material in the single wing, but otherwise, bad struggles, Isaiah satanio is probably their fastest best playmaker got nothing done long play from skirmish of seven yards return three puns one of them for twelve yards.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_02]: There's just nothing there.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_02]: They are wildly dependent on tight end rocky beers at this point, to be the receiving target that John Matier can connect with.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_02]: And that was not the way this team was supposed to be built.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know what is going on there, but this is not the first year that Brent Venables has had a struggling offensive unit
- 51:51[SPEAKER_02]: But he has gotten two big races out of his time at Ed Oklahoma, so good for him if he's good thing it's good thing I'm not the AD I'd be looking for money to buy him out.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, alright fellas, that's it for this week's show.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you all for listening.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: Feel free to subscribe, leave us comments, do all that sort of thing, reviews, and we will be back and overreacting again next week after a certain game in Oxford, Mississippi, where Lane Kippen is going to see himself a hostile crowd.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for listening, we'll talk to you all later.
