- 0:00And then they're like, Taylor Swift is not sending you secret
- 0:03messages. And we're still like, she's
- 0:05sending us all secret messages. We're just the ones who are
- 0:07talking about. That it can be you too.
- 0:09Yeah, Welcome in. You have the same.
- 0:11Amount of information that I do, I don't know Taylor Swift.
- 0:14Yeah, she didn't mail it to me, right?
- 0:25Hi, everyone. Welcome back to GASP the Pod,
- 0:30the podcast for the girls, the gays, and especially the gay
- 0:33girls. We have a very special guest
- 0:35here today to discuss the new OPA Light music video that
- 0:38actually dropped this morning. And her timing is literally
- 0:41impeccable. I'm here with Jesse James AKA
- 0:46Astro Jesse for those who were following her on TikTok.
- 0:50You may know her from TikTok, her Gaylord musings.
- 0:53I would add her makeup looks and she actually did dress up as
- 0:58Taylor and oh play music video today.
- 1:00So super on par. Thank you so much for coming on
- 1:03the pod. Thank you for having me.
- 1:05We did not realize that we are from the same town in Virginia,
- 1:10and I fumble the bag pretty much because we are not in person
- 1:15right now, even though we're probably like 12 miles away.
- 1:18So yeah, next. Time we'll do it in person and.
- 1:21Next time we'll do it in person and actually teaser.
- 1:24This is a teaser. This is just the trailer.
- 1:27It actually though, I do think it's probably a good idea
- 1:29because it's currently like Blizzarding outside my window.
- 1:32So today we're going to be discussing our theories on the
- 1:36Opalite music video, what we think everything means.
- 1:40And obviously that means Taylorism.
- 1:43All of the Gaylor Easter eggs, even though people say it can't
- 1:47be a Gaylor Easter egg because she doesn't Easter egg about her
- 1:49personal life. Taylor Swift's career amidst,
- 1:52you know, the political climate of today because it's just kind
- 1:56of striking the fact that this is coming out and there's been
- 2:00just radio silence from her otherwise and any of our
- 2:04theories about future Taylor Swift work.
- 2:06I think that we're going to discover things as we talk about
- 2:09the music video. For those who are listening and
- 2:12not watching, thank you for listening.
- 2:15However, if you want a visual of the things that we're talking
- 2:18about in the music video, I'm going to put some screen grabs
- 2:21in the YouTube of this. While I'm on YouTube, let me
- 2:24also just plug. If you're looking for bonus
- 2:27content, I have bonus episodes on Patreon and my Spotify for
- 2:32subscribers. I just released a Dear Reader
- 2:35analysis on why it's really gay, and so I was talking about the
- 2:40Blake Lively Taylor Swift texts and my real nuanced thoughts
- 2:45that I don't think the Internet can handle.
- 2:47Also, please subscribe on YouTube and Spotify, rate me 5
- 2:51stars. So that would be great.
- 2:53And then share this pod with your friends.
- 2:55First of all, thank you so much for coming on the pod, Jesse, I
- 2:59have just been loving your content.
- 3:01I did not know you had a podcast, so if you could
- 3:03introduce yourself to my listeners and then also like
- 3:07plug your pod so people can learn about celebrity astrology.
- 3:11Yeah. So hi, I'm Jesse James.
- 3:13I left my corporate career earlier this year and I'm now
- 3:18working as a professional astrologer and a part time host
- 3:21at a restaurant, which is everything for my ADHD.
- 3:24Just like constant interactions with people, new experiences
- 3:28every day. Amazing.
- 3:30But I have a podcast called Popstrology, which you can find
- 3:34on YouTube and on Spotify. And I do a different celebrities
- 3:38birth chart analysis every week. I'm about to drop an episode
- 3:42about Hudson Williams because he gave his birth time in an
- 3:45interview that he did. And thank you Gracie Abrams for
- 3:48asking him what his birth time was.
- 3:51So that'll be coming out soon. It's really exciting.
- 3:53I also do a lot of videos on YouTube at the Astro Diva about
- 3:57like Taylor Swift song lyric from a gaylar perspective.
- 4:01Hell yeah. And isn't life through a gaylar
- 4:04perspective? Yeah.
- 4:04I just love your content. So thank you so much for coming
- 4:06on. And I cannot believe we went to
- 4:09rival high schools. That's so crazy.
- 4:13It's so heated rivalry. The.
- 4:14World is so small. It is like that's actually so
- 4:18insane. I just assume that like every
- 4:21other gaylar is across the world for me.
- 4:23You guys live on this planet? Like, yeah.
- 4:26No, for real. So let's talk about something
- 4:29that happened today, which is the Oblate music video.
- 4:31And I can't believe we actually did not plan this on purpose to
- 4:37record the same day that it came out.
- 4:38But what is your general feeling towards the music video after
- 4:44watching it? And what were you feeling
- 4:46towards Taylor Swift before this came out?
- 4:49I'm such a huge Taylor Swift fan.
- 4:51I have been since I was 12, and she started releasing music and
- 4:55I identify with her really strongly.
- 4:59So I feel like her silence has hurt her a lot.
- 5:04Yeah. And so I tried.
- 5:07I think that she's just built up a lot of expectation from me
- 5:10now, where it's like, well, if you've been silent for this
- 5:13long, what you're doing better be freaking good.
- 5:15Yeah, I feel like she's dropped the ball, and I feel like I
- 5:19sound a little insane when I say I think that there's a greater
- 5:23plan, like, like some religious zealot.
- 5:26But honestly, I was very pleasantly surprised.
- 5:29I wasn't expecting the aesthetic of the music video to be what it
- 5:33was. I was kind of thinking you would
- 5:35be like the cover photo, put this up on YouTube right now for
- 5:40the single, which is like her and that like halter beaded
- 5:43silver dress and it's the three Taylor's in the mirror.
- 5:49I was thinking it's very like 80s studio vibe and we did get
- 5:54an 80s vibe, 80s slash 90s vibe, just kind of like in a very
- 5:57different non glamorous way. My take away is that this is
- 6:02like a friendship music video and like the general theme felt
- 6:08like friendship. I can't count how many times
- 6:10there was something that spelled out best friends and right
- 6:13friends and also opalite. The Opalite spray being
- 6:18manufactured like fake love. It has never been like a happy
- 6:23love song to me. Like now this guy is opalite.
- 6:26This guy is fake happiness. Like the ultimate goal I would
- 6:30assume for everyone is real happiness.
- 6:32This is what she had to create to get by and to survive when
- 6:37she was in hell. Totally.
- 6:40But they're like, no, it's Travis.
- 6:42His birth shown is an Opal. And I didn't expect the music
- 6:46video to like kind of hone in on that idea so much like we she
- 6:52was explaining it in the movie that like the show girl little
- 6:55movie, she was explaining Opal I and she was saying, like this is
- 6:58man made, like you have to create this happiness for
- 7:02yourself. I just can't.
- 7:04I mean, it just sounds so much like she's creating a situation,
- 7:09right that tides her over. And then I didn't expect the
- 7:13spray, the opalite like spray to be so obvious that this is like
- 7:20a fake thing that's happening and not like genuine love.
- 7:25Like she's spraying someone to create something.
- 7:27Like I don't understand how people are taking this to be
- 7:30like the ultimate love story. Yeah, Donald Gleeson, Donald and
- 7:34it said doe and then null. Oh, OK, It's Donald.
- 7:38Or Donald. It's spelled DOMHNALL.
- 7:42Yeah. That's why I had to look up the
- 7:44pronunciation Donald like I don't.
- 7:46Think, Donald, the Internet, said Donald.
- 7:49It can change anytime we talk about it.
- 7:51Bill Beasley, I am Irish. I should be able to pronounce
- 7:55that. But yeah, come.
- 7:56On Mick Rich. I mean OK, so that's not
- 8:01actually my last name, but I realized that it sounds like
- 8:06that just quick story time when I made my TikTok like 2 years
- 8:10before I even made videos. Like I was just like a commenter
- 8:14made it Mick Rich because I didn't want like my boss to find
- 8:17me. I put Haley Mick Rich because it
- 8:19was like called Mick Rich in high school because one of my
- 8:24tennis yearbook pictures, the photographer just spelled my
- 8:28name Mick Rich. And I thought it was funny.
- 8:30I thought it sounded like a stripper name because I was
- 8:32like, oh, Rich, I don't know, like Mick, whatever.
- 8:35It's really not that funny. But then I made that my TikTok
- 8:39username and I honestly just, like, forgot that people would
- 8:42think that was my last name. And Sydney Baker Green from
- 8:46TikTok as well, who's been in my pod a few times.
- 8:49Yeah. He was like Haley make Rich.
- 8:51And I was like, oh wait, that's not my last name.
- 8:54He was like, wait, really? And I was like Oh my God, I
- 8:55should really be clarifying this.
- 8:57No, it's awesome. It sort of reminds me of Scrooge
- 9:00Mcduck because like, he's obsessed with money.
- 9:04Like, I love it. Right, you could really.
- 9:07Do an aesthetic with it and like, lean a little into the
- 9:10stripper, OK, if we're going for like a persona.
- 9:14I can do that. It's like too late to change it
- 9:16so this is just right me now. Anyways, it's so.
- 9:20Iconic to have a stage name. It is iconic Jesse James.
- 9:24So I would love to go through the beginning.
- 9:26The first scene we see or that's like the cover photo is them on
- 9:31the TV screen. And then the rock that has the
- 9:34friendship bracelet that says, oh, it says friends forever.
- 9:38And what's interesting is that both the rock and the cactus are
- 9:44like the friends and then also the lover.
- 9:47The lover, which I'm not even going to refer to as a lover
- 9:53because I don't really feel like that's insinuated anywhere.
- 9:56They could barely hold hands. Right.
- 9:59They weren't even holding hands like this.
- 10:00They're holding hands like this. Yeah.
- 10:02So her new friend, her ginger friend are also friends.
- 10:06So it's like very interesting that all of these people are
- 10:09kind of friends in this story. And my first thought was Karlie
- 10:13Kloss. And I was just thinking about
- 10:14the Best Friends video and all of the stuff like that.
- 10:17But as I started watching, I think I was more so in the camp
- 10:20that the rock is her previous beard.
- 10:24What do you what do you think? Think it's sort of like
- 10:26especially with the My boy breaks his favorite toys intro
- 10:30or like the original demo, which said like he was my best friend
- 10:34and that was the worst part. I sort of saw it as recounting
- 10:37that. Although I do think my boy only
- 10:39breaks his favorite choice is sort of about the music
- 10:41industry. So question mark.
- 10:43This is my question and let me know your thoughts.
- 10:46She sprays herself with it, he sprays his cactus and then she
- 10:52turns into glitter. Let me know your musings on that
- 10:55part. I guess I'm wondering why they
- 10:57don't both spray themselves. And also the plot hole that
- 11:01really I'm focused on is the fact that like, there's no meet
- 11:06queue of them. They don't actually meet each
- 11:09other. They spray this and then all of
- 11:11a sudden he's housing her down in the bathtub.
- 11:14But then the next scene after the bathtub, she and him are at
- 11:19this table across from each other looking like it's like a
- 11:22serious meeting and it's kind of awkward.
- 11:25And then they become friends after that.
- 11:29And I feel like that almost seems like to me like the Tavis
- 11:33arrangement of all of a sudden they're sitting, sitting down at
- 11:36this meeting, supposed to be friends, and they slowly warm up
- 11:40to each other. So interesting.
- 11:42And I think that she shows so many things.
- 11:44And I think that patriarchy and like compulsory heterosexuality
- 11:48is such a strong theme in all of her work.
- 11:52But him spraying something else like his lover or his girlfriend
- 11:56or whatever, a cactus, and her being like, it's me, hi, I'm the
- 12:00problem, it's me. Like it shows that men often
- 12:02think that they're not the problem and women are really
- 12:05conditioned to be like, I'm the problem.
- 12:08TI never thought of that. That's really interesting.
- 12:13Because I actually saw, I was looking at the regular Taylor
- 12:15Swift subreddit this morning and I saw someone be like, oh, it's
- 12:19so patriarchal for her to include this.
- 12:21I'm like, why can't we include something without endorsing it?
- 12:25Like why can't we make commentary?
- 12:28Why does everything have to be an endorsement?
- 12:30Right. I think that like some people
- 12:33want her to include like a, a disclaimer on everything she
- 12:37does and be like, this is satire and it's a commentary on things
- 12:41when it's just like, but that's what art is.
- 12:44We've never had to put out a disclaimer about art before.
- 12:48Totally. I'm a little worried about the
- 12:50phantom understanding metaphors. I fear that people are now
- 12:55forgetting that metaphors did exist and still exist, like
- 12:59without the idea of an Easter egg.
- 13:02And I think people are so focused on like, is this an
- 13:04Easter egg? If it's not an Easter egg, then
- 13:06this is a fact. And then proving that it's an
- 13:09Easter egg. And so like, the idea of an
- 13:11Easter egg is only going to be something like, there's a
- 13:14picture of George Michael on the wall.
- 13:16That's an Easter egg. And if there's not that, then
- 13:18this is just like, fact and just exactly what Taylor Swift is
- 13:24laying out. And right, like, there's a lot
- 13:26of satire. Like satire is not necessarily
- 13:28an Easter egg, but would people be able to understand?
- 13:31That and honestly I've always thought that that like I don't
- 13:34Easter egg, my personal life thing was not directed at
- 13:37gaylors at all. Like it was definitely towards
- 13:39mainstream Swifties and they just like scented at us.
- 13:42I totally agree and I mean really quickly on the new
- 13:46Heights. A lot of what the podcast was
- 13:49was Taylor being like, rumors don't bother me, I have thick
- 13:53skin and I literally don't care. And yet somehow that larger,
- 13:58more important message was completely lost.
- 14:01Similarly to how I feel like the most important message of this
- 14:05music video is that this is a manufactured situation and that
- 14:10like infomercial saved her life. Like, is that the lesson that's
- 14:16the most important part of the whole thing, is that like this
- 14:18is a manufactured story And also friends is spelled out
- 14:23everywhere, yet somehow like that's going over everyone's
- 14:26heads. Just like about Opalite as a
- 14:29whole. I'm sorry if I'm derailing this.
- 14:31No, we're not derailing. We're just conversing.
- 14:34I think that when she went on The Graham Norton Show and she
- 14:37was talking about Opalite and she was like, you know,
- 14:40sometimes you have to make your own happiness, right?
- 14:43And everyone was just nodding along.
- 14:45I don't think that a lot of people do that.
- 14:47I, I think that was just sort of like a, I'm nodding along
- 14:50because she's saying it, but I don't think that people are
- 14:52conscious of like how happy they are in general.
- 14:56I think that a lot of people are just sort of existing and like
- 14:59on autopilot and this is a new concept to them.
- 15:03And I just wish that people could like, dive in a little bit
- 15:06more beyond who's the rock, who's the cactus, and be like,
- 15:10what is the message here, right? You can create your own
- 15:13happiness, but with one spray of the nopalite, it can all go
- 15:17away. So ultimately you need to like
- 15:20actually get yourself in a place where you are genuinely happy.
- 15:23Right. This can tide you over.
- 15:25This is manufactured. You can create this for
- 15:27yourself. But like, is this the ankle?
- 15:31I mean, it seems like this Pulser out of the dump that
- 15:35she's in, like you were saying, like, obviously she's like super
- 15:37depressed over here with her rock.
- 15:40And yes, this person is not a rock.
- 15:43But are they this deep genuine love of your life or are they
- 15:49just pulling you out out of this depression?
- 15:51Yeah. Like, let's talk about the
- 15:52concept of like, you need to make your own happiness.
- 15:56What do you mean? Like if if in terms of your life
- 16:00for sure. But in terms of like, if we're
- 16:03talking about like a love partner, which I don't
- 16:06necessarily think the song Opal is about, but if that's the idea
- 16:11that we're taking away from the song that like you can make your
- 16:14own happiness through making a partner, how do you do that?
- 16:19Like, what do you mean you manufactured your own partner?
- 16:24Like that doesn't actually make any sense and it's impossible.
- 16:28It's dissociative, right? Like it's like I'm creating a
- 16:32dream world that you know isn't reality, but that I'm happy
- 16:36inside. Have you seen Mr. Robot?
- 16:39No, I haven't. OK, best show ever.
- 16:41Ever. Go and watch Mr. Robot.
- 16:42I'm not gonna spoil it. But like, it's something that he
- 16:44does. Like he creates a world that he
- 16:47can live in after experiencing so much trauma so that he
- 16:50doesn't have to like, face the hard aspects of life, but then
- 16:54he gets lost because he's somewhere that's not real.
- 16:58Yeah, I feel like it reminds me of.
- 16:59I hate it here. Yeah, creating another planet
- 17:03and I hate it here. Dreamworlds.
- 17:05These characters have something very similar.
- 17:09Like they have something in common where they're with
- 17:12someone that is like dragging them down.
- 17:15And I don't necessarily think that that means like, they're
- 17:18with these horrible exes and then they find the love of their
- 17:21life. I feel like they're both bonding
- 17:24over the fact that they had beards.
- 17:27They have these beards that are not like that, don't share this
- 17:31commonality with them. And I feel like they're bonding
- 17:35over the fact that both of them had to have beards.
- 17:38And so they're like Co beards. Like maybe their situations
- 17:41before, like only one of them were beards, if that makes
- 17:43sense. And now they're in a situation
- 17:47where like they have a joint mutual plan together.
- 17:51They're on the same page about things and they are having this
- 17:54bonding experience because they they both have something very
- 17:57special and unique about them, which is the fact that they're
- 17:59both queer. And also, if you think about it
- 18:02like, they're at two different sides of that long table.
- 18:04And then Taylor scoots closer and shows him like the fortune
- 18:07teller thing. And so it's like she's like,
- 18:10hey, look, we can make our own fortunes.
- 18:13And then that's what gets him excited.
- 18:15And they're excited together because they're creating a plan
- 18:18to free themselves and like all of the other closeted artists
- 18:22and athletes. Yeah, it's not like when they
- 18:24met each other, they had this spark.
- 18:27It's having this same journey and then creating a plan
- 18:30together and like dancing through it.
- 18:34Even if they, if they have to do this, they might as well like
- 18:37enjoy it together. And I feel like that dance
- 18:40competition scene is like so Taylor and Travis coded of of
- 18:45them being on stage by the way, performing.
- 18:49It reminds me of the me music video where they're like doing
- 18:52this dance number and she's like performing with this other
- 18:55person on stage, yet they're actually having a good time.
- 18:59The anti opalite spray. I know some people were saying
- 19:02that it's all the haters that are bringing them down.
- 19:07If that's true, then one spray, one hater could destroy their
- 19:12happiness. I don't think Taylor believes
- 19:15that either. I think it's more so it's a very
- 19:18like fragile temporary manufactured short term
- 19:23relationship that can all go away because it's not real.
- 19:28I'm going to throw something a little crazy out there.
- 19:32What if the rock represents her fans love?
- 19:36She takes the Rock out of a box that says like my very best
- 19:39friend on it and interesting pet Rock PR, much like paper rings
- 19:46PR and Dwayne the Rock. Johnson voiced the man Taylor in
- 19:52the Man music video. There's a lot of rocks girls.
- 19:55I don't need to catch a bouquet to know a hard Rock's on the
- 19:57way. I forgot about a Hard Rock being
- 20:01on the way. I'm down with any interpretation
- 20:03of her talking about her fame. I think like a lot of the live
- 20:06show girl is not necessarily her talking about a love interest
- 20:10but her talking about the fans and like.
- 20:12Yeah, that's why it is a whole album about fame, even though it
- 20:17seems like it's not. I'm wondering why she has a rock
- 20:21and he has a cactus. I I guess I just don't know too
- 20:24much about Kayla Nicole and I didn't know anything about
- 20:27Travis besides that he played football before this happened.
- 20:30So I don't know. I feel like people are really
- 20:34doing their worst face interpretations and being like
- 20:36they're saying Kayla Nicole was nasty.
- 20:39Right, and like a. This.
- 20:41That's probably not what it means, like it probably means
- 20:43something else. And then with the rock, the
- 20:46reason I think it might be the fans is because, OK, so
- 20:49pretzels, they hold pretzels, they hold big pretzels.
- 20:53National Pretzel Day is April 26th, which is Lesbian
- 20:58Visibility Day, which is the same day that she released the
- 21:00ME Music video. And so she, she and Donall are
- 21:05coming down the stairs holding pretzels and then they see the
- 21:08rock and the cactus together. Cactus is flipping her off and
- 21:12she drops her pretzel. So it's like she's enjoying
- 21:17Lesbian Visibility Day in peace wearing her lesbian flag colored
- 21:21sweater and he's wearing bisexual flag colored sweater.
- 21:25And then she sees her fans and she drops the pretzel and she's
- 21:29like, no, don't see me being gay.
- 21:34Or if we're thinking about the cactus as Travis fans, if the
- 21:39rock is Taylor fans, then maybe Travis's fans are more prickly
- 21:44because men tend to be like angrier and like more violent.
- 21:48And especially if Travis Kelsey, an NFL player, is to come out as
- 21:53queer like they would like shoot cactus spikes at him.
- 21:56And I feel like the rock could be like weighing Taylor down,
- 22:00not letting her feel the actual love that she wants to feel.
- 22:04Exactly. And she's bringing it everywhere
- 22:06with her. She takes it to the bar.
- 22:08She like she loves her fans but they at the end of the day are
- 22:12really giving the true her nothing.
- 22:15Yeah, like you said with the the lesbian flag like sweater she's
- 22:20wearing, there's so many rainbow pride gay stuff in this.
- 22:24Like in the mall, there's I think a pride flag or a lesbian
- 22:27flag on one of the stores. Also during the workout scene,
- 22:31it's super super buy flag coated like and then she's also wearing
- 22:35a buy flag in her outfit as she's doing the workout.
- 22:38Scene, there's the trans flag. I saw the pan flag like so much
- 22:42and what was the thing that was equality?
- 22:45Oh, her holding 2 fingers like this sort of looks like an equal
- 22:49sign, which reminded me of the like equal sign that she carves
- 22:52in the I bet you think about me cake.
- 22:54Yes, yeah. OK, that brings us back to the
- 22:57cake because 1326 also have an alarm clock in this music video
- 23:02that says 1212 and obviously blah blah.
- 23:06We know that that's like TS-12, but I feel like I was just
- 23:10thinking what comes right after that 13 and I know some people
- 23:13have theorized that December 13th we're going to get TS13.
- 23:19For me, all of that really feels like it's revving up to December
- 23:24because that would be 12/26 like that.
- 23:26I bet you think about me music video 13, 26 and then at that, I
- 23:31think it's part where Donald Donald is going to the theater
- 23:36with his cactus and they're like, Sir, please go away.
- 23:41Next to the theater sign, there's a sign that says oh,
- 23:44patient for the encore, which is so crazy to me.
- 23:49And I feel like that's just alluding to like what comes
- 23:51after midnight? What comes after the showgirl
- 23:54when the lights are down? Like after the stage, like it's
- 23:56the encore? Right.
- 23:59And I thought that that was going to come sooner.
- 24:01Like I really thought that Showgirl was going to be a very
- 24:04quick bait and switch. And, you know, it's patient for
- 24:08the encore. And actually, that's something I
- 24:12love about being a Gaylord is that it has taught me a lot of
- 24:15patience because if you try to rush your blessings, you might
- 24:20not be ready for them and they might not be fully formed.
- 24:22But when you're patient, you get music videos like this.
- 24:25Like probably one of her best music videos ever.
- 24:28I absolutely agree. I was going to say I think this
- 24:30is one of my favorite music videos that she's put out.
- 24:33I also just enjoy that she is not trying to like serve face in
- 24:38like every single scene. Like she's not trying to like
- 24:40look hot and listen, I'm all about a woman being hot as hell
- 24:45in a music video, but I just think it's kind of like
- 24:48interesting that like this is just not that music video for
- 24:52her. But I think she looks so good in
- 24:54these outfit. I mean, even just beyond like
- 24:56the the all the theories and everything like that.
- 24:59I just think she looks really good and it's like a fun
- 25:01aesthetic to see her in and like what she would have been like if
- 25:04she was like in her 30s and the 90s.
- 25:07Like it's kind of a lovely image.
- 25:09Like it cleansed my brain a little bit.
- 25:12Right, and did you see that this is the first music video she
- 25:15released after Sunrise since Anti Hero?
- 25:19I was wondering why it was coming on 8:00 AM.
- 25:22Yeah. Interesting.
- 25:24I mean, that makes sense. I I think that life of Showgirl
- 25:27is like an opposite Midnights. And thank you for bringing us to
- 25:31Antihero because of the glitter and the Midnights glitter.
- 25:37I mean, it's such a direct comparison to antihero, but also
- 25:40a reminder that like we're not out of that world yet.
- 25:44Once they spray that on her, she's in a lot of goo.
- 25:47Like it's not like the spray got rid of the goo, if that makes
- 25:51sense, in the glitter. So if you're thinking from kind
- 25:54of like a Normie St. Swifty perspective that this is
- 25:58like riding her, the Opalite spray is like riding her of all
- 26:02the sadness and stuff of the past.
- 26:05It's almost like it's adding it on in that scene.
- 26:09So that's interesting to me. It also.
- 26:11Made me wonder because like, having a music video
- 26:15recontextualizes everything that's come before.
- 26:19And so now I'm like, in the cover of the life of a showgirl,
- 26:22is she in no polite or opolite spray?
- 26:26Is that a bath full of, you know, turning herself into
- 26:30something that creates her own happiness?
- 26:33Right. When did she get sprayed?
- 26:36Yeah, is the question. That's interesting too.
- 26:39What do you think about the pink glitter?
- 26:42And so she like she has on in this scene, she has like
- 26:47midnight blue glitter on herself.
- 26:49I think she looks like she's like Pew pewing herself, but
- 26:52whatever. And then she rubs pink litter.
- 26:56Oh, wait, no, sorry, there's pink litter on her.
- 26:59And she rubs blue glitter on the rock.
- 27:02What do you think is going on? I think it's the same glitter,
- 27:05but I think the glitter is opalite cuz opalite creates both
- 27:08of those colors just in different lightings and one's on
- 27:11skin and one's on stone so it would look different.
- 27:16Oh, so yeah, she's giving us another perspective of what this
- 27:19like glitter looks like. And that I feel like is a chalk
- 27:23one up for the rock representing her old beards.
- 27:26Because it's like, I mean, personally I don't know if
- 27:30Taylor fully identifies as a woman.
- 27:32Like I think she might be androgynous or gender queer in
- 27:34some way, but like on her it's pink and on the Rock it's blue.
- 27:38Like girl and boy all I. Care about No, that's true.
- 27:43It could also be like the blue could be her beard Joe and like
- 27:50I used to live with ghosts and that could have been like, you
- 27:52know, an anti hero like moment there.
- 27:56That's when it was like midnight blue and now maybe after in the
- 28:00Opalite vibe, she's pink. But I guess my now that theory
- 28:05goes out the window for me because now I'm thinking like
- 28:06after she sprays herself, she's then in this like midnight goo
- 28:10again. So I don't really know.
- 28:13Her. Mind I'm like trying to keep
- 28:16track of like the colors and the and the glitter, but so they
- 28:21meet up together. They have both been sprayed or
- 28:24he sprays his cactus. They're together.
- 28:26They do this formal meeting. She shows him their future and
- 28:30now they're all happy because they have a plan.
- 28:32They go to the mall. They are almost sprayed with the
- 28:36opalite Nope spray or the anti opalite spray, but they're fine.
- 28:41And then they're at the arch trellis photo shoot.
- 28:45I think that's afterwards. Maybe I'm wrong, but let's talk
- 28:49about the fact that there is like just an obvious crown next
- 28:53to the trellis. Yeah, and no one's wearing it.
- 28:55It's insane to me. Yeah.
- 28:58Like we already could have run with the fact that it's a
- 29:01trellis that looks just like the Tavis engagement and just like
- 29:05the Bejeweled music video and ghosting the Prince.
- 29:07But the added crown in the scene, you have to admit that
- 29:13that I don't know how you can like not relate that to the
- 29:16Bejeweled. Yeah, And there are, like, white
- 29:19podiums on either side, which represent, like, they're
- 29:23basically the same as the vases from her and Travis's engagement
- 29:27photo shoot. They all have the arch trellis.
- 29:30And it's just like that that music video came out in 2022.
- 29:34Like how do Hitler's explain why her actual engagement photos
- 29:41look the same as her music video from three years before?
- 29:44And she just double downed on it in this music.
- 29:47Yeah. And they still don't get it
- 29:49right. This is also random.
- 29:51And people are going to disagree with me, but I when I saw the
- 29:56scene of them, like doing the photo shoot underneath the
- 29:59trellis, it reminded me of the picture of Elizabeth Taylor.
- 30:03And her last wedding was this construction worker guy.
- 30:10And he was like this like white dude, kind of like jacked dude.
- 30:16And they're like underneath a white 90.
- 30:20I think it was in the 90s too. Trellis vibe.
- 30:22That was her last wedding that she ever had.
- 30:25And that's just like the first thing I thought of.
- 30:27It's not a perfect match, but OK.
- 30:29So we're in the arch trellis scene.
- 30:33What do you think? 2 theories that I'm going back
- 30:36and forth with in my mind about Louis Capaldi going into the
- 30:39photo shoot. The fact that he goes can we be
- 30:41friends? Like that's such a scripted
- 30:43moment. I'm thinking either it's the
- 30:47Tavis stands that want to be a part and invited into the
- 30:51relationship or it is Ross Travis and they're like little
- 30:56non ethical monogamous relationship.
- 31:00My money's on Ross. Yeah.
- 31:02Cuz he's just always the third. And like the photos they do
- 31:07together? Yeah.
- 31:09Come on. No, it's Ross.
- 31:10It's gotta be. I also think it's really
- 31:12interesting in this scene, there's like a sign at the photo
- 31:16place that says one hour only. And so it's like guys, they,
- 31:21they're only together for an hour.
- 31:23Like they get together and they do a pap walk and they get
- 31:26pictures of them taken and they go their separate ways.
- 31:30I'm realizing there is no scene of them in this music video.
- 31:34Her and Donald were there like, inside cuddling or something
- 31:40like that. Like they're in public spaces.
- 31:42And most of the time, like after the first two scenes of them,
- 31:45like getting to know each other, they're in the mall, they're on
- 31:49stage, they are doing a photo shoot.
- 31:53And you don't really see them like having a loving moment
- 31:56where they're like looking into each other's eyes.
- 31:59No, and I think you mentioned this in the outline.
- 32:03Donal is credited at the end as lonely man.
- 32:06Taylor is credited as lonely woman, but Greta Lee is credited
- 32:11as like indie rock goddess and Jody Turner.
- 32:14Smith is credited as dream aerobic dream girl, which she
- 32:18just can't help herself. You know, she's she's going to
- 32:20be gay at the end of the day. She's just going to be sapphic.
- 32:23Goddess and dream girl literally come on.
- 32:27And I feel like that's the dream girl thing could be very
- 32:29interesting too. Like, I could still melt your
- 32:32world's argumentative, antithetical dream girl.
- 32:34That could be a reminder to fans of like, no, I'm not the dream
- 32:38girl. This girl's the dream girl.
- 32:40Like I was always talking about someone else, not myself.
- 32:44Right. Because a lot of people's
- 32:46interpretation was like, oh, she's talking about herself,
- 32:49guys. It's like grammar.
- 32:52The best songwriter of our generation doesn't know how to
- 32:54use a comma and insert a word. Right, the fact that she lists
- 32:59herself as a lonely woman. And might I add, these are
- 33:04credits after the music video. So we've already seen what
- 33:08happens. They end up together, presumably
- 33:11together in what way we don't know.
- 33:12But they end up at the end on stage.
- 33:15They're not like at home. So the ending of the music video
- 33:19is them together on stage being like whoo.
- 33:23That makes me think like the on course coming next.
- 33:25So like this is the end of the showgirl era.
- 33:28They're on stage. What happens after that, the
- 33:30encore. But then we see this like scene
- 33:33from the Graham Norton and she's introduced as lonely woman,
- 33:36which it does not make any sense if this is after the fact that
- 33:41we think that they're together. Like it's not the credits in the
- 33:44beginning, they could have easily been like previously
- 33:47lonely woman. Like it doesn't make any sense
- 33:52to me. No, or it could just be like
- 33:55woman, like, I don't know, she could have used anything else.
- 33:58But at the end of the day, you know, maybe they're still
- 34:01lonely. I hope Travis isn't lonely with,
- 34:05you know, Ross. I'm a big trust girl.
- 34:08Yeah, no, I feel like they're fine.
- 34:10Yeah, I think they're together. I mean the fact that.
- 34:12You're Taylor's wife is. Right.
- 34:14Someone I think that Ross and Travis are happy.
- 34:18The fact that Ross was like in the air is to her like, that's
- 34:22like commitment, you know what I mean?
- 34:23She's like, yeah, you can put him in like he's your man, you
- 34:27know, right. He's he's your man.
- 34:31I'm so emotional. I love them so much.
- 34:34I like honestly, when I first watched this music video, I was
- 34:36thinking that she I I'm going back and forth in to thought
- 34:40processes. The one that everyone accepts is
- 34:43what Taylor Swift tells us in the Instagram.
- 34:45Is that like the minute that she was, like, there with all the
- 34:48people, like on the Graham Norton Show, she was like, I
- 34:50want to do this music video. I think either she did the music
- 34:54video before they were even on the Graham Norton Show.
- 34:57She had such a sneaky smile of foreshadowing that I'm like, I
- 35:02don't know. And the fact that they were
- 35:03like, oh, yeah, you should see his dancing.
- 35:05Like it just seemed like it was already plotted before that or I
- 35:10think it was afterwards. I think that she selected like
- 35:16who she wanted to be there because I'm I'm honestly not a
- 35:20big Harry Potter fan. So like I'm just retelling based
- 35:24on my limited memory. But in Harry Potter, Bill
- 35:27Weasley is a curse breaker. Bill Weasley played by Donald
- 35:30Gleason. And so he breaks the curse on
- 35:33Katie Bell who has been like has this like opalite ish.
- 35:36I think it's a lock. In or something.
- 35:39There's a reason that he was there and there's a reason that
- 35:42he's in this music video and that doesn't happened by chance.
- 35:46And I think that was like the point of the end of an era docu
- 35:49series. She was like nothing happens by
- 35:50chance. Right.
- 35:53The point of the Opalite music video, which is like, this is
- 35:58man made. This didn't just happen by
- 36:00chance. And I just like hung out with
- 36:02these people and I'm like perfect.
- 36:04Everyone has a perfect little role in my music video.
- 36:07Right. Yeah.
- 36:07And of course, Killian Murphy was in Oppenheimer, which
- 36:10Barbenheimer has always been true romantics.
- 36:14Greta Lee is in the studio and a bunch of other New Romantics
- 36:18projects. The morning show, like, these
- 36:20people were there for a reason. They wouldn't have taken random
- 36:23artists who, like, don't already know everything about the New
- 36:26Romantics. I agree and I do think that it's
- 36:29it's relevant that this was the first interview she did after
- 36:32her engagement and was talking about her engagement.
- 36:37And then this exact cast is in OPA light music video which is
- 36:42supposed to be one of the more lovey dovey songs towards Travis
- 36:45even though we don't really get an actual love song for him I
- 36:50would argue. And there's also something else
- 36:53that I'll try to find the video up and send it to.
- 36:55I think I know where it is. But Lewis Capaldi gets
- 36:59sidetracked at some point and just starts rambling.
- 37:02And, like, it seems like things are going a little off the
- 37:05rails. Taylor turns to Graham Norton
- 37:07and goes 6. And then he goes, yeah, they'll
- 37:11be singing like a Canary. Like, this to me, was the
- 37:14manuscript. The actors were hitting their
- 37:16marks, she said. Like it was scripted.
- 37:20Wait, she says 6. Yeah, she turns to him cuz Lewis
- 37:23is rambling. Someone else goes that's so
- 37:26exciting. And then she turns to Graham and
- 37:28she goes 6 and he immediately says they'll be singing like
- 37:31Canaries, which obviously is related to life of a showgirl.
- 37:36Wait, I'm confused about what 6 means though.
- 37:39I think it was just like the kid, yeah.
- 37:42Whoa, yeah, there's something going on for sure.
- 37:47And like this was the beginning of the life of a showgirl press
- 37:51to her kind of like back where we were saying about the rock
- 37:55and the cactus, like my other theory when I first started
- 37:57watching it. And then I don't know if I'd
- 37:59like swayed away from this, but that the rock was like her and
- 38:02Carly or like this actual lover. And like maybe that lover did it
- 38:07didn't work out. Like obviously it didn't work
- 38:10out whoever this person is. But like when she was at the bar
- 38:16with the rock, I felt like people couldn't see the rock.
- 38:19Like it was like this invisible love and the girls trying to sit
- 38:23down in the seat and she's like, it's taken like obviously.
- 38:26And everyone's like not obviously, like there's no one
- 38:29there. And maybe just kind of seemed
- 38:31like I used to live with ghosts like this invis, these invisible
- 38:35loves that like maybe no one else could see.
- 38:38And what is happier and better is pretending to be in a
- 38:41relationship with a man and then everyone celebrates you.
- 38:45So I don't know, like could it be that she's not actually
- 38:49happier in the Opalite and it just seems like she's happier
- 38:53because she's like convincing herself?
- 38:55I don't know. I think there's like multiple
- 38:56ways that this could be taken I guess.
- 38:58Yeah, I was just thinking about it and if my theory that the
- 39:03Rock is her fans, like she sort of carries her fans and like the
- 39:08knowledge that they love her everywhere she goes, but those
- 39:11fans don't take up a seat at a bar, for example.
- 39:15Like maybe she's just keeping like the love that she has from
- 39:18her fans with her, but it's not a real person.
- 39:21It can't be an actual friend. It can't hug her.
- 39:23It can't dance with her. That's a very good point I'm
- 39:27thinking of. Any other time she mentioned a
- 39:29rock in her songs. Right, well, there's my tears.
- 39:33Ricochet. We gather stones, never knowing
- 39:35what they'll mean. True.
- 39:38Throw some to make a diamond ring like an engagement.
- 39:41Ring, yeah. And then there's what if I
- 39:44rolled a stone away? They're going to crucify me
- 39:46anyway. Damn I feel like that's really
- 39:49interesting of like what if the rock goes away?
- 39:52Even if she's in this perfect relationship that maybe the fans
- 39:56actually like, are they going to crucify her anyways?
- 40:00Yeah, no matter who she's with. They will because I think the
- 40:04overwhelming sentiment will probably be she lied to us.
- 40:08Oh totally, we never knew her. Right.
- 40:12Yeah, how could she lie to us? And then they're like, Taylor
- 40:16Swift is not sending you secret messages.
- 40:18And we're still like, she's sending us all secret messages.
- 40:21We're just the ones who are talking about them.
- 40:23It can be you too. Yeah, you have the same.
- 40:25Amount of information that I do, I don't know Taylor Swift.
- 40:28Yeah, she didn't mail it to me. Right, right.
- 40:32This also had me thinking about LOML when she says a con man
- 40:36sells a fool a get love quick scheme, which I've always taken
- 40:39to be about the music industry because like going to the store
- 40:43and buying that pet rock in a box like my best friend, that's
- 40:47a get love quick scheme. That's sort of how she's
- 40:50represented her fans for so long.
- 40:52Wait, let me think about that for a second.
- 40:54Because I'm like, is this her saying her fans have no reading
- 40:58comprehension because we're being sent a get love quick
- 41:02scheme and we're like buying it and we're falling for it.
- 41:05And we're like, yeah, this is great.
- 41:06This will last forever. And she's telling us, look, this
- 41:09is manufactured and fake. It's pretty obvious.
- 41:14And then all of a sudden the ink bleeds like she burns everything
- 41:18down our field of Field of Dreams.
- 41:22Interesting. Yeah.
- 41:23That could, like, go more for, like, this song being about the
- 41:26fans than it even is about her beards at all.
- 41:30Right. I like that.
- 41:31Oh, I was just going to ask you if we can talk about the dance
- 41:35scene. I think it's so interesting the
- 41:38parallel like you mentioned, the ME music video where she and
- 41:41Brendan Yuri are dancing on that stage, but also the Bejeweled
- 41:45music video where she enters a talent competition and she wins
- 41:48and therefore she gets to get a forced proposal from the Prince.
- 41:53But in this one, she's not doing her showgirl thing.
- 41:56She's being her. She's being goofy.
- 41:58She's got the night man cometh makeup and doing like a dance
- 42:02routine from I think an episode of friends to tie in with your
- 42:06friends theme for the video and they get all zeros.
- 42:10But it doesn't matter because they weren't trying to get
- 42:12people's affection. They were just.
- 42:13Being themselves, I know it is interesting that she's had so
- 42:17many music videos and like the Limax of the music video for a
- 42:22lot of these music videos is like the dancing scene for
- 42:26people to applaud and vote for her.
- 42:29And that could go for your theory of like the muse is the
- 42:34fans in most of these songs. People are giving her all zeros
- 42:38and she doesn't care and she's like cheering.
- 42:40And does that mean we're like closer to seeing her?
- 42:45Are we getting like glimpses of seeing her?
- 42:48Do you feel like if this is then the real her performing, is that
- 42:53still her being the show girl? I don't think so, because I
- 42:56think the music videos that she's released after Dawn, I
- 42:59think the real Taylor is in control.
- 43:02Yeah. And it's so interesting with
- 43:05like the Midnight's Till Dawn edition.
- 43:08I think night time is when she and the showgirl Duke it out.
- 43:12Like, they're both at home and they're like now, like who's in
- 43:15charge? Yeah.
- 43:17I have more and more been thinking that 2019 was a planned
- 43:21failed coming out just because we've had so much pointing to
- 43:262026. Been sleeping so long in a 20
- 43:29year dark night like from 2006 when debut came out to now.
- 43:34Sometimes I think the life of showgirl is like loving Part 2.
- 43:39It's like we're seeing all the like happiness and like the
- 43:44comparison to a black and white album because like before Lover
- 43:48we had Reputation and before life of Showgirl we had like
- 43:51black and white. And I wonder if that's because
- 43:56it's like another round of attempting to come out like,
- 43:59like you said, like the Onyx night to Opalite.
- 44:04I feel like we're missing the metaphor there because people
- 44:07are so focused on it being like, oh, that means it's about race.
- 44:12It's like, no, we're in the daylight now, don't you think
- 44:15about the stapler and so? It's like no idea.
- 44:19One of her dancers is sprayed with the anti anti opalite spray
- 44:24and he just like vanishes and now becomes a stapler.
- 44:28And then the ending scene is quote.
- 44:31The stapler is happily single and has been working through its
- 44:35possessive codependent tendencies in therapy.
- 44:38Girl what? Well, I think like to think of a
- 44:41stapler, you know, it pushes things together and holds them
- 44:45together. And so maybe the stapler being
- 44:49single is the stapler, just like without paper or without
- 44:52staples. That's.
- 44:53I've got no idea. I don't know what it means.
- 44:55Right. And it's like, what does that
- 44:56have to do with what if it's like her talking about her
- 44:59dancers on the airs to her and it's like she feels codependent
- 45:03with like her whole airs to her crew and she's working through
- 45:07or the staple. That holds her together.
- 45:09That's actually interesting. But like possessive.
- 45:12Like, is she feeling possessive of her dancers?
- 45:15Is she a stapler? Right.
- 45:17Like something that really stuck out to me is the picture in the
- 45:2390s, like photo shoot thing, like the Kmart thing where
- 45:27they're under the trellis, like the engagement photos and like
- 45:31the Bejeweled music video. And they open their shirts and
- 45:35Taylor is wearing her lesbian flag striped shirt and Donald's
- 45:38wearing his bisexual flag striped shirt.
- 45:41And they're, you know, at a wedding maybe and coming out as
- 45:45what they are. And it's just like.
- 45:48Thank you for reminding me of the scene because I didn't even
- 45:51notice the colors, but the fact that they're going like this and
- 45:56revealing something is just makes me think that is that
- 45:59going to be the encore or are we going to even get a wedding?
- 46:03I've been thinking that they're going to break up by like the
- 46:05end of March. I kind of thought so at first,
- 46:09like within the fall and like the showgirl, I thought they
- 46:11were going to have the wedding and do something at the wedding.
- 46:15But with all of these news outlets reporting on them, like
- 46:19having a hard time planning the wedding and what's going to
- 46:21happen, like, it does seem like they're setting the scene for an
- 46:24early breakup before that even happens.
- 46:27Yeah, So what's the wedding? I've got so many questions.
- 46:32Is Travis going to have his? I'm gay and I'm going to play a
- 46:34moment before and then the wedding is going to be him and
- 46:37Ross like. Thank you for the I'm gay and
- 46:40I'm going to play like, yes, I love that movie so much.
- 46:44I've been begging him in my head to do this since he did Rivalry
- 46:48came out. But wouldn't this be just the
- 46:50perfect opportunity if you were the closeted athlete to come out
- 46:55with heated rivalry like. I'm so, like, hopeful.
- 46:58I'm hopeful for everything. Every day I wake up and I'm
- 47:01like, Donald Trump might die today.
- 47:02Like, that's really what? Keeps.
- 47:04That's such a good perspective. Yeah.
- 47:05Thank you so much. Maybe it's.
- 47:07Because you're not in TikTok anymore, so you don't feel like
- 47:09the doom. Yeah, I'm also, I'm just a very
- 47:12like, I'm a Pisces rising. I'm Jupiter ruled like.
- 47:15I've always just been very like. Flamboyant and like, can you do
- 47:19and hope? I love that.
- 47:21And I'm very jealous. Can you do my horoscope one day?
- 47:24Of course. OK, amazing.
- 47:26Yeah. It doesn't have to be in the
- 47:27celebrity size. Also very funny, I just saw the
- 47:31moment the Charli XCX mockumentary.
- 47:34What do you think? It was a 2 hour long panic
- 47:36attack. I'm really stressed and I
- 47:38haven't had a chance to think about it yet but obviously
- 47:42people are like oh Charlie and Taylor are feuding which I don't
- 47:46think is true at all. Charlie works non-stop with Jack
- 47:49Antonoff and I don't know why people think that Taylor and
- 47:53Jack are feuding because she did one album without him but like,
- 47:57she doesn't burn bridges. Not having him a part of the
- 48:01press tour and everything and like in the docu series only
- 48:06helps the idea of a feud that I think her and Charlie are both
- 48:10very in on together. Yeah, so Charlie uses eristor
- 48:14visuals at the end of her mockumentary, including
- 48:19literally the vigilante shit chair dance.
- 48:22Literally like bedazzled knee high boots.
- 48:24Literally confetti. Like Ugg Taylor or is it just
- 48:28like no? It's her recreating the eristor
- 48:31that make it rat because the the theme of the moment is this is
- 48:38choices that I didn't make or these are choices that I didn't
- 48:42make when I was creating brat. And it's like if she had
- 48:45followed the path of like, listening to authority figures
- 48:48and doing things the way that they've been done before instead
- 48:51of doing things her own way. Wow.
- 48:54It's basically like if Charlie was a showgirl.
- 48:56What is? What is the tone of it?
- 48:58The tone is neutral. It's sort of like it's her
- 49:03saying I'm glad I didn't do brat this way but like brat is like
- 49:07real Charlie and showgirl is or the era's tour was showgirl
- 49:12Taylor. Right.
- 49:14This is made to entertain for that purpose, right?
- 49:18Yeah. Interesting.
- 49:20People going to see the movie will take it as shade,
- 49:23definitely. And I think with Actually
- 49:25Romantic, I think Taylor just wanted to write a super gay song
- 49:28about a girl making her what she needed someone for people to
- 49:32think it was about. They're like, obviously she
- 49:34would never fuck Charli XCX. It's like not obviously so that
- 49:39people could like think about that and think about the feud
- 49:41more than they're actually thinking about the gay part of
- 49:44the song. And then of course, gaylors are
- 49:46actually going to take the gay part of the song.
- 49:48Like it's the perfect concept of a song for Taylor Swift because
- 49:53it pleases everyone. Yeah, and Charlie has talked so
- 49:57much in her interviews and on her sub stack about persona and
- 50:01like performance. And if you watch interviews with
- 50:04her, she's so nice. She's a people pleaser that
- 50:08comes through in the movie a lot.
- 50:09Like doesn't know what to do, just wants validation.
- 50:12I just can't imagine that they're actually pissed at each
- 50:14other then. Meanwhile Jack is friends with
- 50:18both of them and I think having Jack not be a present face in
- 50:24the showgirl I think like helps the idea that they're feuding.
- 50:28Oh my God I didn't see her face. Melrose, you're so fucking cute.
- 50:32Last thing about the music video for the ending scene where it
- 50:36says garbage is still garbage. What are your thoughts?
- 50:39For me, I was like, that's classic Taylor.
- 50:43And like, I've thought maybe it's about like Kanye, OK, but
- 50:48it could also just be a general statement in the in the end of
- 50:52an era docu series when she says men will let you down, the era
- 50:55store never will. Like I think she's also trying
- 50:58to get the point across. Like if you're dating someone
- 51:00who's garbage, you can't create fake happiness with them.
- 51:03They're still going to be garbage.
- 51:04You should just leave them. OK love.
- 51:07Yeah, like this spray can only work it's magic on so many
- 51:11situations. On natural beings like rocks and
- 51:14cacti, not a man made garbage can.
- 51:17Right, a lot of this music video for me feels like me, like me
- 51:23exclamation point the song, but for the life of showgirl and it
- 51:27just even the music video and the fact that it's kind of like
- 51:31a juvenile song. It's like an uplifting song for
- 51:34me for like queer kids. That's how my interpretation of
- 51:37it this like attempt to be uplifting in a queer way where
- 51:43it just feels like also the music video is so overtly queer.
- 51:46Maybe obviously a lot more and me and you need to calm down.
- 51:49But for me, when I was watching this, I was like, oh, this is
- 51:52kind of the same vibe. Like we are back in the Lover
- 51:55era. And I feel like the music video
- 51:57is now, at least for me, making me enjoy the song more, like
- 52:02adding in more depth. Like when I first was listening
- 52:06to it, I wasn't obsessed. But now it's it's up there.
- 52:11It's moving up my ratings. Yeah, I feel like a lot of the
- 52:14wording is just so simple in this album.
- 52:17Like life is a song. It ends when it ends, you move
- 52:20on. Like usually she would be like
- 52:23life is but a melody twinkling to the trees and a lights upon
- 52:27my ear. So true.
- 52:29And so it's just like she said things in more plain text.
- 52:31But that doesn't mean the song doesn't have just as much
- 52:34meaning as it usually does. It's just less flowery.
- 52:37Yeah, I think she she also said this during the promo for the
- 52:42Showgirl where she was saying like if you want to only, or
- 52:46maybe this is during the New Heights podcast, if you want to
- 52:48only like dig so deep, like that's for you.
- 52:51But for those that want to continue to dig deeper, there is
- 52:55that. And I feel like the guise of
- 52:58this album is that it is simple and straightforward.
- 53:04Meanwhile, she admits during the docu series, I love to layer in
- 53:08multiple themes and metaphors and narratives.
- 53:13So if you only take it from like one perspective, which is Taylor
- 53:16singing to Travis, the album's going to feel very flat.
- 53:19But I don't think that's the intention.
- 53:23And I feel like the music video like shows that complexity
- 53:26because we're talking about it and there's like 3 different
- 53:29ways to think about each metaphor in this.
- 53:33Like what is the rock? We've you know what I mean?
- 53:36I feel like songs like that, like from her earlier albums
- 53:39too. I've been connecting so much
- 53:41with Shake It Off recently. The theme of dancing and it
- 53:44comes up in Opalite in like dancing through the lightning
- 53:46strikes. But Shake It Off is like while
- 53:49you've been getting out, down and out about the liars and The
- 53:51Dirty, dirty cheats of the world, super relevant right now.
- 53:54Like, all of us are down and out about all of these really
- 53:56greedy, powerful, horrible men facing zero consequences and
- 54:00running all of our lives and ruining all of our lives.
- 54:04You could have been getting down to this sick beat.
- 54:07And, you know, it sounds so shallow on the surface, but I
- 54:09think the way that she uses dancing is to say, like, if you
- 54:13keep being a moving target, they can't get you.
- 54:17Like, you have to keep dancing. You have to keep changing your
- 54:19plan to the circumstances and the winds.
- 54:22And, you know, like, don't get yourself mired down in one
- 54:25place. Like be flexible, be nimble, and
- 54:28have fun. Yes.
- 54:31And I feel like that works so much with Opalite.
- 54:33Like when her plans keep getting fucked up, she's like going to
- 54:37create a situation where it works for her.
- 54:41And I also feel like for her, dancing is like almost like the
- 54:47insecure Taylor. Like she's talked so many times
- 54:49about how like I'm not a strong dancer and like I feel like I'm
- 54:53an awkward dancer and all this stuff.
- 54:55And like, yet we see so many times she does these, like,
- 54:57awkward dance scenes and these music videos.
- 55:01And I feel like that's like, such a big concept for her of
- 55:05like, despite being the showgirl and being on and doing this
- 55:07performance, like, she's still at the end of this music video
- 55:10getting scored 000. And like, that's the point.
- 55:15And so like, yeah, like, you can take it very simply.
- 55:17But like, it's also like kind of a lovely message and not to
- 55:21ramble on too much, but what you were just saying of like with
- 55:26Shake It Off, she was talking about in the docu series and
- 55:29this talks about politics a little bit about how the
- 55:31election was coming up. And of course, I wish she said
- 55:35more about the election, but she was saying like, I want the
- 55:39errors to her to be a distraction.
- 55:42And I know we all kind of think about and maybe just the Gaylord
- 55:44community, we talked about Taylor distracting from politics
- 55:49and like kind of a negative connotation.
- 55:52But lately for me, I have been really leaning into distraction
- 55:58and it actually got me like super powerful.
- 56:00It is very easy to say like the way to move forward is to
- 56:04approach everything head on and like give your energy towards
- 56:07every single bad thing we see. But there is a lot of like
- 56:11goodness in in creating a distraction for people.
- 56:14Like Taylor knows most of her fans are like young women that
- 56:18are probably very like influenced by like the shitty
- 56:21things that are happening. And to create like, I don't
- 56:25know, like a space and a distraction like Gaylor is that
- 56:28like we're here having a really, really interesting time talking
- 56:31about this music video and not thinking about Jeffrey Epstein's
- 56:35island. I'm like joy and like new joy
- 56:38happen and not be thinking about politics all the time.
- 56:41So like there's a way to take that that's not necessarily
- 56:44like, oh, distracting so that evil people can keep doing their
- 56:46evil things, but more like creating a world that we can
- 56:50dive into. Yeah, I think there's there's
- 56:53like so much I. Could say about that.
- 56:56Say it. And the first thing is that that
- 56:58gives a. Different.
- 56:59Not even a different but like a more all-encompassing meaning to
- 57:02Opalite. Like not only is she creating
- 57:05happiness for herself, but she's creating happiness and like a
- 57:07safe space for all of her fans. And like 2 days ago they
- 57:11announced that there's gonna be an OPA light music video.
- 57:13And I was like, Oh my God, life is worth living for real.
- 57:16This is maybe me being a Gemini moon, but I think that one of
- 57:20the things that we need to do in order for society to heal is to
- 57:24have more parties. And I think this is sort of like
- 57:27the same vein as that. Like we really just need to get
- 57:29people happy and get them together.
- 57:31And like right now it's very difficult because a thing of
- 57:34cheese is $6. And if you're trying to
- 57:36entertain, that's going to cost way more money than I have.
- 57:40Please invite me to any and all cool parties that I'll let you
- 57:44know. Dude and Vice.
- 57:45Versa, if it's not too late, buy a ticket to the heated rivalry
- 57:49event. We can go together.
- 57:50I'm actually seeing that stoned so I can't.
- 57:55No, I think it's such a good point.
- 57:57It seems so. Basic and like non intellectual,
- 58:01but like it really is true that like we just need to have fun.
- 58:06And I, I honestly was like losing my mind with like only
- 58:11consuming and talking about the horrible things are happening.
- 58:14And like, I think there's obviously a duty that we all
- 58:16have to like be informed to a certain level and spread the
- 58:21good word. And then there is also a huge
- 58:25need for us to take care of our minds so we don't, so we can
- 58:30like keep up humanity. It's actually super important
- 58:35right now to have worlds that people can live in.
- 58:39Like I literally it's like and I hate it here music video that
- 58:43she gave us right, And I think I think it's so great.
- 58:47To not see things as black and white, like to have the
- 58:50flexibility to be like, today I think escapism is bad and
- 58:53tomorrow I'll think it's good. You know, I think it's great to
- 58:56be able to navigate both of those and like, have curiosity
- 58:59about like what's best for me today.
- 59:01I think that we need to have a in.
- 59:04Person podcast session or just hang out and then cuz this was
- 59:08just a warm up you guys this was just the trailer thank you so
- 59:12much for coming on the pod. This was a delight and I'm
