- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh, we have one more hour of the program, the
- 0:04updating the baseball for you. Right now, Houston and Detroit
- 0:08tied at two. Tiger's batting with the bases loaded and
- 0:11two outs on the top of the eighth inning. Most
- 0:13of the scoring has happened late in this contest. In fact,
- 0:17a basis loaded walk? Is that what? It was? A
- 0:22basis loaded walk issued by Josh Is that well? I said, no,
- 0:26I guess it was just time called out of that.
- 0:28So the base is still loaded with two outs. Yeah,
- 0:31it was a basis loaded walk, and the Tigers have
- 0:33taken the lead again. It's three to two. Josh Hater
- 0:35just issued a basis loaded walk with two outs in
- 0:39the eight Spencer Torklesen drew the walk and has just
- 0:43gone on the first base in Detroit has now gone
- 0:45back in front of Houston. It is three to two.
- 0:47Is the Tiger's bat in the top of the eighth
- 0:49inning with two outs, and that against Josh Hater, the closer.
- 0:52So that's what's happened in this game. I say it
- 0:57was a basis loaded walk. Torklesen went down the first
- 0:59back had just loaded the bases there and the graphic
- 1:02headed walks to the bases are still too two. Sorry
- 1:05and mena Panicastros fans there watching on a very very
- 1:08small monitor and it didn't have the out indicator listed
- 1:12on there. They do now. It's still just two two.
- 1:15It's not a three to two boggame. It's two two.
- 1:17The bases are loaded now though, as Josh Hater issued
- 1:21a two outwalk, so Tiger still batting two to two.
- 1:25Top of the eighth, two outs. Kansas City continues to
- 1:28leave Baltimore. It's one to nothing as the Royals lead
- 1:31the Ools. That's in the top of the second inning
- 1:33and that contest at the Oriel Park at Camden Yards,
- 1:37So we'll keep you updated on those Loalgworts head coach
- 1:40Steve Sarkisian took part in the SEC teleconference today and
- 1:47one of the questions that he was asked was about
- 1:51the thing about learning to play with emotion but not
- 1:56play emotion is It's something we've heard sark mentioned quite
- 1:59a bit in the past. He says, we want our
- 2:00guys to play with emotion, but we don't want them
- 2:03to play emotionally, and he explained how he came into
- 2:07that mindset, Like with so many other things, all roads
- 2:11lead back to Nick Saban.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I had a hard time putting it into words. O
- 2:16Saban more eloquently used this term that I'm referencing that
- 2:21I kind of took with me because it really resonated
- 2:23with me. I didn't know how to say it, but
- 2:26I knew what he was meaning. And then once he
- 2:28said it the way that he said it, like I said,
- 2:30it resonated with me. And I've kind of carried it
- 2:32with me ever since.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Okay, all right, that was That was one thing, and
- 2:35then one other question he was asked. And there is
- 2:38a lot of experience in this, and it's all about
- 2:42the backup quarterback. When Sartan played at BYU, really, even
- 2:47when he played at El Comuno Community College in California,
- 2:52he had been a backup quarterback and then and then
- 2:55had a great sophomore season. Then he went to BYU
- 2:59and rolled in initially as a backup and then became
- 3:02the starter and had a great finish to his collegiate
- 3:04career at BYU. Since he has been the head coach
- 3:09at Texas, he has had to turn to the backup
- 3:12quarterback on several occasions. That has happened as well. So
- 3:18because of that, it has been a situation where he's
- 3:24you know, you think about it when he had had
- 3:25some card on back and Casey Thompson was there and
- 3:29all of that sort of thing. And of course since
- 3:33Quinn yours has been the starter, he's had to turn
- 3:36to the backup quarterback, but that was due to injury
- 3:38Malik Murphy having to come on for Quinn the last
- 3:42couple of seasons and then of course earlier the season
- 3:45Arch Manning having to step in when Quinn was injured.
- 3:49So he was asked about that and about getting the
- 3:52backup quarterback's reps so that they can be well prepared
- 3:56for the eventuality if he has to go to a
- 3:59backup quarterback.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And when I was a starter, I never wanted to
- 4:02backup to coming to the game, even for a play.
- 4:05And I remember my senior year of college, I have
- 4:08been banged up and the coaches wanted to run a
- 4:12quarterback draw.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Honey, you're not.
- 4:17Speaker 2: They called the play, and they called the play and
- 4:19I scored a touchdown. So you know, I've got respect
- 4:22for a guy who's the starting quarterback and the rhythm
- 4:25that it's needed to play with. So no, that's not
- 4:27something I've ever entertained.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Okay, so there it is, and some thoughts there from
- 4:36Loren's head coach Steve Sarkishan. Okay. In Houston, it has
- 4:43been broken open, at least for the moment. A big
- 4:49two out bases clearing double. My pinch hitter Andy Abanyez
- 4:57has cleared off the bases and the Tigers have taking
- 5:00a five to two lead on the Astros. Astros just
- 5:02recorded the final out of the inning, but at Banyez
- 5:05with a basis clearing double to score three runs, and
- 5:10the Astros are down to six outs left in their
- 5:12season right now, going to the bottom of the eight.
- 5:13Tigers up five to two, having one game one yesterday
- 5:17three to one. We'll keep you updated on that, all right.
- 5:20Coming up next, we'll visit with the play by play
- 5:22voice of the Houston Texans, Mark vandermir to talk about
- 5:25the Texans and their battles in the AFC South. That's
- 5:28next when we continue here on this Wednesday afternoon on
- 5:30Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio
