- 0:12This is the wheedl of Time Spoilers podcast. Welcome to wat Spoiler's bonus episode.
- 0:23I guess we're going to do something a little different today because wat Con
- 0:27is coming up and I just I don't have brain powers. So what Idle
- 0:32just happened? And I'm going to piggyback off of the energy from What Idle
- 0:37twenty twenty four and show Seth some of the videos because he has not seen
- 0:42any of them yet. No, I managed to just again with the way
- 0:46my work schedule is and with wedding crap, like, the idea of sitting
- 0:49out on the computer and watching a bunch of videos has just been untenable for
- 0:53me. So yeah, this is the first time I've actually had a chance.
- 0:55I've been knowing it's going on, but I have not had a chance
- 0:58to view any of the live streams. I've seen in YouTube a couple of
- 1:02times as I'm scrolling through the titles of them. But I'm like those spoilers
- 1:07left and right, you know, for once, you know, I'm doing
- 1:11the thing that you actually have to do to dodd spoilers, which is just
- 1:12stay off the internet. So here I am now completely unspoiled on any of
- 1:17these except what I can see in the playlist right now. So yeah,
- 1:21so we're going to start with the winner and just work our way backwards.
- 1:23I'm hoping we can get through the top sixteen, but remember there are eighty
- 1:27two of these, so we're not going to get through all of them.
- 1:30We're not even going to get to mine because mine got knocked out early.
- 1:34So you know, maybe we should start. We can start with mine if
- 1:38you want, but then we should start at the winner and work our way
- 1:41backwards. Because the people just turned the fuck up this year. And I
- 1:48came this year very much just coming to play. I was just coming to
- 1:52play. I didn't want to do a whole big thing. But the amount
- 1:56that people stepped it up this year and the amount of just un hinged acting,
- 2:00particularly in the winning entry, really have lit a fire under my ass
- 2:05to go all out next year and to not come to play next year,
- 2:08but to actually like just get into it to a greater degree because just,
- 2:15oh my god, the amount of effort getting put out in these things.
- 2:17I'm like, yeah, I want to play harder. I want to play
- 2:21harder. I'm here for it. I'm here for it next year, Like
- 2:24I said, you know, I'm gonna try and after the wedding, I'm
- 2:28hoping that I'm gonna have a little more time to do things like parodies and
- 2:30be there to support a really awesome Yeah, and like I, video editing
- 2:36is still a thing I'm not into, but I just I want to create
- 2:38a video next year, even if it's not gonna be the most well edited
- 2:43thing. But anyhow, that's enough preamble. There will be a link in
- 2:46the show notes to go to the full playlist. We are gonna tell you
- 2:51what song we're gonna do. We're gonna play it. You should go listen
- 2:54to it on your own time, pause the podcast, go listen to it
- 2:57or watch it, and then come back of the podcast and hit play.
- 3:00And we're going to discuss what Seth thought about it and what my experience was
- 3:05in live chat as it happened, and we'll just talk about it a bit
- 3:07and then move on to the next and we'll do that until we run out
- 3:10of steam, which will be long before the end of the playlist. So,
- 3:15without further ado, Seth, you want to tell us what our first
- 3:17video is going to be? Sure it is going to be unnatural, A
- 3:23wheel of time perer. Oh wait, no, we're doing yours first.
- 3:27I'm not letting you get away with that. Wellle's you tell us which one
- 3:30my video is and door an idiot and video is a misnomer. It's just
- 3:36a song. I didn't do a video. Aside from the required lyric portrayal
- 3:39for accessibility purposes, most of the entries are actual videos. Mine is one
- 3:44of the handful that are just lyrics. While they really weren't that many of
- 3:49them this year, because remember there being a whole category. Yeah, it
- 3:52definitely, I would say it seems to have diminished. The ratio of full
- 3:57productions to just lyrics has definitely shifted, and of full videos. That was
- 4:01part of why I did just the lyrics, was like, like I want
- 4:03to hold down the just lyrics section, but like now I want to make
- 4:08a video because like so many people made such cool videos. But anyhow,
- 4:11yes, and or an idiot that's me coming in at number How do we
- 4:16have a video lost to Ali of all people? Oh Ali, that's cruel.
- 4:21Yeah, everything's not making you can hear I did this on the fifth
- 4:27take rather than the third take. But this is gotwin. Yeah I caught
- 4:35that. Yeah, Paroria. It's the original lyric. I just love to
- 4:43focus on like one particular group, like Caitlin in this case, like when
- 4:49a song really like goes hard on, like yeah, not like on the
- 4:53whole wheel of time. See. I just wrote a nice thing for the
- 4:56bridge because I didn't have anything else. Yeah, this is just a fun
- 5:00little I like to eat of this. I like to eat it this nice.
- 5:06All right, So I gotta quiz you on that, right, So
- 5:11where did the idea come from to do and Dorian idiot instead of American idiot?
- 5:15I mean like just literally the name. I was just like the American
- 5:17idiot and Dooran idiot. It was like, what how can I do this?
- 5:19How can I do this? I want? It took me like three
- 5:21years to come up with the lyrics for that because I really wanted to make
- 5:26it work, but it just I wasn't finding the story for it. But
- 5:30then yeah, I thought like what if it was a punk band in like
- 5:32low Camlin and Gwen is like slumming it with the regular people, and like
- 5:39this is this is how just like punks in an and Or might feel about
- 5:43like the ruling elite. So you know, yeah, I finally figured out
- 5:46the story and then I and then I was able to do a Gwain entry,
- 5:48which I thought was really fun because like, Gowen is not a character
- 5:51that gets a lot of attention and love, and this was not like a
- 5:57skewering of Gwen per se. It was just sort of like a scene setting
- 6:01idiot. But it was just a scene setting. It's like, this is
- 6:03just Gowen before everything. This isn't the Gowin of the books. This is
- 6:08the template upon which the Gowain happens. And it's just like, I mean,
- 6:13we all like Green Day, we're millennials, like, oh yeah yeah,
- 6:16and it's an easy song to sing along to. I kept getting Taker
- 6:21run Riod, who does the sing along at wat Con every year, has
- 6:27been first of all persuaded to do what idol sing along. I advocated for
- 6:30that very aggressively, and then Jen told me specifically, okay, we're doing
- 6:33that. And then after the contest she wrote me and was like, hey,
- 6:38can we do Andoran Idiot? And can we call you up to do
- 6:41it with us? Like fuck yes, So I'm gonna get to do and
- 6:46Oran Idiot live with Taker Rounriod at the wat Cohn sing Along on Saturday,
- 6:49night, and I could not be more excited. I'm actually really excited.
- 6:55The better be a video. Oh, I'm sure there will be. I'm
- 6:57sure there will be because Talker and Riod just they rule in so much.
- 7:00And this song is so singable. It is such a karaoke bal singable like
- 7:05group song. So I'm very excited to do the group sing along with all
- 7:10yall sang an indoor an idiot. Yeah, because after the first lyric,
- 7:14everyone is like, I don't want to be I mean everyone can scream out
- 7:17that line right like it'll be perfect. So I had a fantastic time with
- 7:21that. I initially made it through my first round of voting because I was
- 7:25up against kid Rand, So I went against a child, So that was
- 7:30a great victory. Yes, so much g Kid Rand. And then my
- 7:39next round suppressed. And then my next round I went up against my podcast
- 7:43co host Ali, who did a shot for shot video parody of her song,
- 7:46and I'm like, how am I supposed to even be mad about losing
- 7:50to that? Because she did the extra mile right, I mean we did
- 7:53tribute as a shot for shot parody. I love shot for shot video parodies,
- 7:57and I was like, well, I have to lose, but you
- 8:00know, is a bummer. I was annoyed. It made me very franky
- 8:03about the whole concept of competition. I'm just over here at my autistic anarchist
- 8:07glory just being like, well, we don't even need to compete. Competition
- 8:11is stupid. And of course a bunch of people have told me the competition
- 8:15is the part they enjoy, so like, clearly it's a useful function.
- 8:18But yeah, getting knocked out early is not my favorite. But I think
- 8:24there's a really useful function to it, which is to help people really find
- 8:28the best songs in the bunch. Because there are a lot of songs,
- 8:31and I do love them all, and I love the effort in all of
- 8:33them, but some of them are bops and some of them I just want
- 8:37to listen to over and over again, and it just you know, I
- 8:41don't care who wins, but I love the top sixteen. Right, there's
- 8:43usually a step up in quality at some point. It's been top sixteen,
- 8:48top thirty, on wherever you want to call it, right, you know,
- 8:50the top sixteen is where it's at. Yeah, yeah, where there's
- 8:54this people who clearly have talent, have time, have money, have you
- 9:00know, existing skills, existing skills that they are they're putting in this and
- 9:07it reads a lot of time as professional production, not amateurs having fun,
- 9:11which is what you buy. And I mean, we're even like mid tier.
- 9:13There's a lot of people who are very much learning skills for the very
- 9:18first time, never having done anything like this, because the chat is so
- 9:24accommodating and the enthusiasm is so over the top and everyone is so kind that
- 9:28there are a lot of people who like genuinely are significantly worse at making the
- 9:33stuff even than us. Like we're mid tier. There's like real professionals,
- 9:37people who actually have tried before, and people who are doing it for the
- 9:39first time. Here's what I'll take credit for our first entry. That first
- 9:45year was just so bad that we really gave people a low bar to getting
- 9:50into it. And it was really important in that first year to make sure
- 9:54that bar was set low enough right that people who are trying for the first
- 9:58time are really willing to come in. So you know, that was a
- 10:01deliberate choice on all. Humiliated myself attempting to sing queen for the first year
- 10:07for you, Yes, that was that was that was for you. Yeah,
- 10:11mm hmm. Yeah, m hmmmm. Definitely how that choice worked out.
- 10:16Definitely how that went. Yeah, that's my story. Yeah, But
- 10:20moving on from the self aggrandizement of having my video be the first one we
- 10:26played, let's go to the actual top sixteen. Yeah, yeah, what
- 10:30you're here for? Let's do you want to go sixteen back? I want
- 10:33to start with the winner and work our way, work our because it's just
- 10:35if you want to talk about to pop and an earworm like I I mean,
- 10:39I don't know, I'm an Imagine dragonsucker, so like the song was
- 10:43gonna win it for me anyway, But yeah, I think we should start
- 10:46with the winner and just so we make sure we get that one in because
- 10:48it's just so good. So this is unnatural by Salia o'neer, who has
- 10:54done a fantastic video every year. She always has really great wordsmithing, really
- 10:58fun video, but she she built on her own success to such a spectacular
- 11:03degree this year. So all right, all right, stop pipping that.
- 11:13It sounds like the song was written right, and Imagine Dragons does really cool
- 11:20lyrics like she's done Lin Manuel Miranda songs for the last two years. So
- 11:26like Imagine Dragons was kind of a walk in the park, but like still,
- 11:30oh my god, and it's so cool. I'm just listening to it.
- 11:31I'm not getting to see the video, right, so I'm getting to
- 11:33appreciate the audio just all on its own without the video. Like I know
- 11:37what the video looks like because I've seen it several times. And I mean,
- 11:41right right, I love her voice. I really love her voice.
- 11:45It's she does a great job with the voice. I mean, and that's
- 11:48not a song I would a otherwise know, Like I guess I'm not an
- 11:50Imagine Dragons fan, right, I love Imagine Dragons, But I mean that
- 11:58was a great song. I love the fame. I know right that Faine
- 12:01got got the video and got like a sympathetic angle, right, like that
- 12:05breakdown where it's like, oh no, like Fane the humanity Wait, I
- 12:13mean it was a bad dark friend who chose that long before all the bad
- 12:18ship still so yeah, And I mean like the unhinged body language, right,
- 12:26like she's like rocking and then like stands up like that was video that
- 12:28was filmed backwards obviously, right, because that the human body looks creepy when
- 12:33it runs backwards. It's just I she did a great one last year about
- 12:37Talmanas, but like there's there's a level of video production that also stepped up.
- 12:41Yeah, the video production was high, and this one by a nose
- 12:48against the next video down because but it's like Salia also was going to win
- 12:52one of these years, like just fantasm also has been like hyping up the
- 12:56community, like on Twitter specifically like around this event, but for like just
- 13:01just fantastic, excellently deserved win. But if you will look at the next
- 13:05video and who's fitted it, you will understand why the vote was down to
- 13:13like the tiniest hair, because this is lesbian nerdy who I mean as every
- 13:20year, I mean one every year she gets close when she automatically gets to
- 13:26like the top eight, top four, but she has not won before.
- 13:28Easily got it, got it, yeah, I mean but just great some
- 13:33of my favorite one more comment about Salia we have now had not so the
- 13:39first two years was a guy with a guitar who won. Second year was
- 13:43a girl with a piano. This year just a singer, Just a singer
- 13:48who did an amazing video with all the acting and that unhinged acting, that
- 13:52unhinge acting. I'm like, well, I want to do unhinged acting.
- 13:56I want to be like Saya Saria is cool. Well, I can do
- 14:00what Salia did. You gotta pick a forsakend, maybe do a little y
- 14:05massage. So I thought that was a nice trend breaker that we now have
- 14:09someone who did not have to play any of the instrumentation in order to win,
- 14:16just singing, writing and then creating an unhinged video. Mmmmm, because
- 14:20I do feel like playing the actual instrument is just like there's people who have
- 14:26learned play instrument and people who haven't, and you're just very clearly like segmenting
- 14:30those. Yeah, and that we have some serious professional musicians in this community,
- 14:33and I love the fact that they share that talent with us. It's
- 14:35great, but it was still nice to see someone who doesn't have that skill
- 14:41win. That was very cool. Anyway, moving on to someone who is
- 14:45going to win one of these years, I'm sure that like or six is
- 14:50gotta be her year because every year she gets close Lesbian nerdy doing I forget
- 14:54the name of the song, but I know it's a Rihanna song. I
- 14:58love that every line mmmmm mmmm, Like what the hell? How do you
- 15:03write a whole song with just quotes? From the wheels you are lesbian nerdy,
- 15:07You're a lesbian nerdy. That was incredible. That was the writing skills
- 15:11there was off the charts, and her singing voice. The editing, yeah,
- 15:16her video editing obviously, just obviously right, I can't. I understood
- 15:24the lyrics so much better not being able to see the words on the screen
- 15:26because that font was very distracting. So like I didn't really like hear the
- 15:31lyrics like fully until now. And it's just like, yeah, god damn,
- 15:33she's an amazing voice, and yeah, just such good lyrics, such
- 15:37good lyrics. Yeah. And this is the thing is we often forget that
- 15:41this is at its core a parody contest. I often forget that I often
- 15:46do not vote for the best parody in terms of writing. I'm often voting
- 15:50for like who had the best pipes or you know, who had the most
- 15:54elaborate video production or whatever it is. I have a very complicated and erratic
- 15:58way of choosing who I vote for. But like, this is supposed to
- 16:02be a parody contest at its core, and like I mean that writing,
- 16:06that writing, that writing, it's fantastic. Yeah, because it was all
- 16:11wrong. And then just and Hers from the show to illustrate, like the
- 16:17journey Moraine goes through is just like I mean, there wasn't even a lesbian
- 16:19already head floating through it normally lesbian actually is in it. Yeah, that
- 16:25show clips, but like I'm not mad about it given how much she focused
- 16:27on Moraine. I mean, honestly, one of my favorite things to come
- 16:32out from the show is ability to show our characters expressing a certain emotion.
- 16:38Right, and the memes and the edit video edits, and like, what
- 16:41I've noticed is all these videos, oh so far, all the two I've
- 16:45seen so far are telling the story from the books. They're not telling the
- 16:51story as it is. Yeah, the show the story beats our books story
- 16:56beats, but they're using show. Yeah. Yeah, that that is a
- 17:00trend that will continue. That these are not the only two who did that.
- 17:04That We are willing to mine the show for anything we want, but
- 17:10aren't necessarily fans of the story. We're not bound by show cannon. You
- 17:12gave us pretty pictures, you made all those beautiful colors and gorgeous costumes.
- 17:17We are going to absolutely do whatever we want with them, right, right,
- 17:22and great actors, right, the amount of cheek oones that this cast
- 17:26has in jaw lines. Yeah. All right, So at this point I
- 17:32don't remember what comes next, so you're going to have to read off the
- 17:34titles and the artists. All right. One power Ballads presents a Wheel of
- 17:38Time parody. Every Sin laid a wreath for you. One power Ballads.
- 17:44This this is every single ladyes, every single maiden. This is Alyssa one
- 17:48power Ballads doing Beyonce. This is fun. This is very fun. Okay,
- 17:55yeah right. The title card is three Maidens of the Spear. You're
- 18:00standing in. Oh yeah, yeah, she got she got the best set.
- 18:02If anyone got Best Set Award, it would have to be her.
- 18:04This is it filmed on site in the waist held this hashtag get conversion,
- 18:18asterisk quality dancing well, the POV maidens kiss the b at the end.
- 18:27Don't stop it too soon. Magan Dick's Savanna. I think every shot,
- 18:40every video so far has had the blood snow opening scene, the cold open
- 18:45because it's just like the best shot in the whole show, the shirtless r
- 18:52because it's just the story. And then stop dancing and the same rock the
- 19:03shooting range in the background like military testing range. Oh Man, that that
- 19:10to me is the video that looks like they had the most fun filming it.
- 19:12Yeah, yeah, yeah, since we did tribute and one most fun
- 19:17tribute. Yeah, like that looks like they just had a blast out in
- 19:19the desert, dancing singing along to you know, a well written, well
- 19:23soung song, but a relatively simple one. But like, yeah, just
- 19:26like having a lot of really good references to the Maidens, the good references
- 19:30to yeah, yell, I love that song. Yeah. Alissa is someone
- 19:34who took the hurt difficult feelings from not having her parody Foldy shown the first
- 19:41year and turned it into a whole like YouTube channel of just tons of parodies.
- 19:45Like she just makes feel of time parodies all the time. She has
- 19:49all this experience now actually I don't know if it was the first or the
- 19:52second year, but either way, she like just like did this like retreat
- 19:56and then just exploded with all this creativity. So this is the culmination of
- 19:59her making so many more videos than the rest of us. Yeah, one,
- 20:03power Ballads is really fantastic content. And it was apparently very very hot
- 20:07that day, Like she was not lying about it being one hundred and twelve
- 20:10degrees. Oh, Jesus Christ. I mean, yeah, I got up
- 20:15to one hundred year recently and that was enough for me. Yeah, I
- 20:18went yeah, but yeah, I mean totally and doing a dance number like
- 20:21for maidens dancing this spear because I mean, Beyonce is very danceable. Like
- 20:23that's the point, right, So yeah, really really fun video. Unlessa
- 20:27is definitely gonna win one of these years. Also just it's just a matter
- 20:30of time until she wins unless more talented people keep getting into this, and
- 20:37there's more people who deserve to win every year. It's becoming a problem.
- 20:41It's gonna win. She's one of those years. She's just so talented.
- 20:45And I'm gonna be on a panel a favorite walt Con. If you're coming
- 20:48to wat Con, you will have seen potentially us together on content creation and
- 20:52how it's done. It's gonna be great. The next one, No one
- 20:53fights is hard, Avianda and the wise one and the wise one. That's
- 21:00great, great, No one fights as hard. Audio quality is ridiculous,
- 21:10No, ridiculous. Who said I have an a cappella group that I can
- 21:15get to sing Wheel of Time? Shit? Is it one person or is
- 21:18it time? Beatboxer guy down at the bottom is called Avi or mister Av.
- 21:23I'm not completely sure, okay, And he's organized a WA cappella group.
- 21:30You can message him and become part of the WA cappella group. It's
- 21:33like a thing that exists. Now. Our community is insane, our community
- 21:40that unreasonably talented fandom. Yeah, on reason. And you'll notice down at
- 21:45the bottom right, that's Salia who actually won. So when we were in
- 21:48final four voting, we literally at one point had Salia verse Salia, where
- 21:52it was like, ah, I thought you weren't supposed to do. They
- 21:55expanded the rules about collaboration this year. They wanted more people to be able
- 21:59to collaborate and support each other's various strengths and weaknesses. And so in a
- 22:04walk cappella group, yeah, okay, you can also have your own genuine
- 22:07submission if you are one of eight. Ali and I are definitely talking about
- 22:11doing a collaboration, but also each doing one with our own respective podcasts.
- 22:15And we're gonna need to grill the village council and how how much collaboration we're
- 22:21allowed to get away with just because we have two podcasts. Apiece, Yeah,
- 22:26that one was definitely I just a cappella is so like, it's such
- 22:32an interesting sound. I really like it. And just a little tribute to
- 22:36the Maidens. Yeah, yeah, and again it had more of that footage
- 22:40of the of the flood snow because of course it did, of course,
- 22:45but yeah, and it feels very right for the Maidens. Just this like
- 22:48uplifting, like because like the Maidens do sing right, male I yell,
- 22:52don't sing female ayeal do sing Like this seems like the kind of thing Maidens
- 22:56would sing exactly exactly. This is how they hype themselves up to go into
- 23:00battle, singing these beautiful harmonies like and then and as you them and like
- 23:06and then they're just stabbing ship out of it, these beautiful harmonies and you
- 23:10get like, you know, points docked at the end of the battle,
- 23:12if you like got flat or sharp as you were like cutting your way through
- 23:15shindow. You know, it's all about breath control, remember, sing and
- 23:22stab, sing and stab, breathe on the inhale and you know, retreat
- 23:29exactly exactly. I am part of me wants to try to join walk,
- 23:34join wal capella, but also like I am a mediocre at knowing what to
- 23:38and I'm in singer and have a lot of other things going on. So
- 23:44oh and here we come to tak Yes, Takaron Riott again. They're gonna
- 23:48win one of these years because they always just turn out with such fantastic videos
- 23:53and songs and make their own music. It's just it's great, It's great.
- 23:56I love them. Hardcore fan freaking candering to the Matt Hatch contingent.
- 24:03I mean, does that not always get you up there in the rankings.
- 24:07I swear he's like garnered more support for land Fear than would otherwise exists in
- 24:11this community. Sure, and this was also his return Idol Finals, was
- 24:15him coming back after a six month hiatus. Matt Hatch or Yeah, nice
- 24:22song, it's about us. They do well fandom meta phantom, Yeah,
- 24:29the singing. Yeah. Now, if this had won, it would be
- 24:30another guy playing in a guitar band. It's not just a guy playing a
- 24:34guitar fair enough, right, Yeah, this is gonna do ridiculously well.
- 24:42It can have lots of good phantoms this year, but this one might be
- 24:45the best. Yeah, this one's gonna be. It's gonna be hard for
- 24:49us not to just flast this out. We will be fantoming this hardcore especially
- 24:53because they wrote it, like they can't stop it. M hm. Delusions
- 25:02always cracks me up. I like how it's all the costplays kind of like,
- 25:07oh, we're costplaying these various roles. What we do really good meta?
- 25:12Yeah, tell me what you think. I mean, that hits me,
- 25:18that hits me hard. I'm gonna have a hard you know. It's
- 25:22one of those things where it makes me really sad. I'm not going to
- 25:25work on this year. Yeah, you know. It's it's like that community
- 25:30is so great and I love everybody there. And as much as I get
- 25:33incredibly overwhelmed at those cons and can't remember anybody's name in the moment, and
- 25:40I always feel guilty because people know me and I don't know them, but
- 25:42I still love going and I still love the environment and the people in the
- 25:47whole event. I mean, it's just it's probably my favorite thing to do.
- 25:51And we sort of had a little mini con. I got together with
- 25:53some Wheel of Time folks getting ready for my wedding. It's just some friends
- 25:59of mine or radio I get to see you in person, as well as
- 26:02a few other things, and that we are in fact three dimensional people that
- 26:03exist. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it did happen every every year or
- 26:08two we actually get together in person. That's more than often to that it's
- 26:11every six months. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, it just made me
- 26:15miss miss the whole community all that much more, right, because it is
- 26:19it's a it's a real safe space because I get man. Man, I've
- 26:22been going in to work every day and the mask is becoming a little too
- 26:25real. Yeah. You know when you start making the bad jokes that your
- 26:30coworkers make in earnest that you're like, I don't want to I don't want
- 26:33that to be my mindset, but there it is. You know. You
- 26:37grind on it forty hours a week. It's very hard not to adapt the
- 26:41people you're around, you know. And so I need I need my Tetana
- 26:45shot, which is the Wheel of Time fan free cardcore. Yeah, people,
- 26:48and this is a nice bomb yeah for that because it's like it's it's
- 26:52these are my friends, right like everybody in that video with somebody I knew,
- 26:56someone I hung out with, someone I talked to. It all I've
- 27:00gotten food with. It's it's like a scrap book of the times we've had
- 27:04as a community in so many ways. And yeah, it's it's also funny
- 27:08as I watching that video and then suddenly it's like, oh shit, I'm
- 27:11in this video too, because there was that one panting shot of the sing
- 27:15along from last year, and I recognize my ass. Like I said,
- 27:22people, you know, it's a lovely peon to us, and I do
- 27:27think that we're all going to be singing that one multiple times at walk and
- 27:30we are going to miss you very much because Yeah, as I've been telling
- 27:34multiple people today already, like going to Walkcon despite the fact that I have
- 27:41to fly to Ohio of all places, like these are my people, Like
- 27:45these are my people, and it's worth it to me to get to actually
- 27:48be in a space with them for you know, three entire days plus two
- 27:53travel days coming in and out like it's it's so it's so good for the
- 27:59soul to be there. And yeah, a song like this really emphasizes that
- 28:03feeling without you actually having to go to Ohio. You can just watch the
- 28:06song and be like, ah for that. Oh, I fully expect,
- 28:15like I don't know how the service is going to be, but I need
- 28:18you to, like video call me at least a couple of times that weekend
- 28:22and be like yes' hi and hold hold me people, and then yes,
- 28:27yeah, yes, for sure, Yeah that would be really nice because we
- 28:30will all miss you, and I al miss everybody there, so I expect
- 28:37at least one at least yes, I'll make sure, yes, yes,
- 28:41I'll put it on my list. I will look. I have I have
- 28:44an extremely itemized, a tennerary of all the things I need to do because
- 28:48autism. I will put that on the list, and ironically it will go
- 28:52on a list excellent, ironically excellent. So yeah, next video video is
- 29:02the longing part one our time again talking about professional musicians. Yeah yeah,
- 29:08and this one is like there's basically two songs in it, like it's a
- 29:12thing. Yeah, it's a long one. It's is seven minutes, so
- 29:17sit back, prepare to enjoy it. There's so much going on in this
- 29:22video. I will have to watch it four or five more times before I
- 29:25even can like start to approach. I have not seen everything that's in it
- 29:30at all. And this is the second song you're talking about. Yeah,
- 29:34yeah, this is just it's incredible. So yeah, that's Jake and Alex.
- 29:41I don't have the bandwidth for that. That was amazing on so many
- 29:47levels that I do not hear the bandwidth process it, I would need to.
- 29:52I mean, it's two songs, first of all. Then there's a
- 29:55whole acting thing going on inside of that. There's fifty square around those like
- 30:00eight squares, yet so many squares of acting in which things are going on
- 30:04in each individual square. I would want to watch the video once for each
- 30:07square. Then the lyrics were all interesting, but also complicated in a way
- 30:14that I was not able to follow while everything else was going on. I
- 30:18don't have the bandwidth to process something like that on my first watch. But
- 30:22it was yeah, like in the very literal sense of the word. And
- 30:26then like I have a lot of awe for what I just said. The
- 30:30professional musicianship is not to be questioned. They have so much going on.
- 30:33I couldn't even follow the lyrics without the video. I was still getting lost
- 30:38in all the different instruments to listen to and all the different things that were
- 30:42just happening. Auditorily, I don't quite get the connection between the two songs.
- 30:48It felt kind of weirdly shoehorned together, because I do know the first
- 30:51song and it is very much not connected to the second song. But yeah,
- 30:56I mean their production value is absurd for sure. I mean I guess
- 31:02they just couldn't. One probably want to do one song and one wanted to
- 31:04do the other. So they said, well, I mean that does seem
- 31:07like the like the most likely scenario. And then they also are teasing what
- 31:11they're gonna do next year, right, They're like, oh, yeah,
- 31:14we're gonna go to toe onhead next year where nothing happens ever, like so
- 31:18you know they're they're gonna do that, I guess, And it feels like
- 31:23this is the kind of thing that takes a year to produce. I would
- 31:26suspect so. And they did something very similar to this last year. That
- 31:30was the one where we got the line where are the girls? Because it
- 31:33was like this very surprising, shocking, like death metal riff at the end
- 31:36with Matt just screaming where are the girls? It was like amazing. Yeah,
- 31:40this year, the takeaway line is the groove is no bar to My
- 31:44Call. That is the takeaway line from their song is the groove is no
- 31:48bar to My Call? Like, oh my god, it's so good,
- 31:49so brilliant, but yeah, it's a lot to take in. It was
- 31:52sort of like you just like, how do I even respond to that?
- 31:56I just like I just need to watch it again and like posit every five
- 31:59so seconds to like check in with what's happening. Like I'm literally this would
- 32:04be like a frame by frame type situation where I could like advance a couple
- 32:07like three frames and then like look again and see what's going on. So
- 32:10so that's that. That was a lot. It's again, they have to
- 32:15win one of these years, just because how are they not going to inevitably
- 32:19win? Like, ah, if you keep producing that level of quality,
- 32:23definitely for sure. Next next one is Party in Flame a Wheel Fall.
- 32:30Oh I got this one. I was so sure this one was gonna win.
- 32:32I was so sure this one was gonna win. So okay, this
- 32:38ranking shit is not how we should do this. We need use tears.
- 32:43We really like that one because like we're talking about these top sixteen in no
- 32:50way are these would I rank these in the order that we're watching them?
- 32:54Uh yeah, yeah, there's I wish they did categories. I've heard other
- 32:59people talk about tear systems. I just the sheer like brute like like just
- 33:08total elimination down to one, two, and three is just like yeah,
- 33:14it's just really hard. I don't like it. It doesn't feel appropriate to
- 33:19the talent and the fan base. But the people organizing it have yet to
- 33:22take my pointed comments every year's feedback in every year's feedback form seriously, they
- 33:29have not responded. I will continue giving them that feedback until the heat death
- 33:31of the universe. Maybe someday they'll listen. The pronunciation on this to make
- 33:37them rhymes a little tortured but funny, because you can't pronounce them like that
- 33:40if you really want to, right, it's just just yeah, it's serve
- 33:45a way and obey And she does a really good Miley cyrus too. Yeah.
- 33:52Yeah, that was a collaboration. The lyrics were by one person and
- 33:55the singing was by another person. Okay, okay, yeah, because the
- 34:01writing was awesome, right, Like the lyrics just matched up. Like,
- 34:06like I said, those couple of rhymes are a little tortured, but in
- 34:07a way that like kind of makes fun of the fact the way we pronounce
- 34:10these words anyway, it's a fine head yet tips just the fact that yeah
- 34:15pronunciation. Yeah, I was I just was like, there's no way that
- 34:24that's not gonna And it came so close. It was in the final sixteen.
- 34:28It just you know, came up early in the elimination, So that's
- 34:30why it's so far down in the list. I would say, also,
- 34:34it doesn't have the video production quality some of the other It's a good video,
- 34:39right, like it's a good video home, but it's not like the
- 34:43professionally you know, created ones. It's just basically her singing with the right
- 34:47and the filter makes it amazing and amazing. The dog, the dog face
- 34:53in that in that comic book filter is just so funny. I love the
- 34:58dog. Yeah, that was just so much talent and like, you know,
- 35:02they hadn't done it, they hadn't entered before, and then they just
- 35:05come out swinging with that like wow, and I just and I love how
- 35:08like you. At first you're bopping along with Soroth like oh, it's a
- 35:10pro suroth song, and you get to the end and it's like, yeah,
- 35:15Rja totally had an outrigger plan where he was going to like deconstruct the
- 35:17whole Sean Chan bullshit that he had set up, Like that was totally on
- 35:21the books, like you're you're the bad guy. You're the bad guy.
- 35:22It's just it's such a funny ending. So it's just such a funny like
- 35:28ending to the song because you think it's just pro siroth. And then it's
- 35:30like, that's why I think, like both, that's a better bop than
- 35:37I think. So that's gonna stick in my head better than some of the
- 35:38other songs I've heard, and it's got better story to it than some of
- 35:45the other songs I've heard because it got the so I think, I think,
- 35:47I think it wins out in those two categories. It just doesn't quite
- 35:51have the video production of some ones. Yeah, totally, because we have
- 35:53a wide range of talents in this fandom and they are not evenly distributed.
- 36:00Right right, right, right, all right, next, all right,
- 36:04now we're ah, helloly the song that beat me? This is what I
- 36:07love this. Tell me, tell me I shouldn't have lost to this again.
- 36:12This is a shot for shot remake video. There's a video parody on
- 36:15top of everything. Before I watch it, I will tell you that you
- 36:17should not have lost in this. After I watch it, I might have
- 36:21some true I appreciate that I'm and enjoyed it for a few more minutes.
- 36:22While we watched this, so far, all I see is someone's face and
- 36:30the word hello on screen. I don't find that to be at all compelling
- 36:32compared to yours. So I think we're we're. We can just write off
- 36:36the rest of this video. All right, sorry Allie, this long's not
- 36:46real. Yeah, I just finished it. It is. This is great
- 36:53because I know she just finished up that run of books in the podcast,
- 36:58so Alo from the other Side is perfect. Oh man, the call outs
- 37:07and the song are so good. Gender dynamics of ninety nine are great.
- 37:16God, and her physical comedy is really fucking funny too, like every shot
- 37:22gratuitous rift are you the hair dryer part? Okay? Not yet before?
- 37:34Yeah? No, there it is the way it just dips into screen back
- 37:37out again. There's a little blooper you have to watch too. Yeah.
- 37:43In the Knife of Dreams, yeah, is completely anal about you cannot dog
- 37:51your dad please the book spine, like his books need to be perfect.
- 37:55So yeah, when when he threw the book, everyone in their server was
- 37:58like, oh, what did God say? Yeah? So yeah, tell
- 38:07it's okay. I deserve to lose. I deserve to lose. Going up,
- 38:09I guess that, like I mean belting, like my god, Yeah,
- 38:17she took a nailed so I would drunk in a group. I am
- 38:23not doing a dell for widle, like just amazing pipes. And yeah,
- 38:29her commentary like three or four depending on who you ask in this community.
- 38:36Just like every line just zing zing zing yeah as every every single line was
- 38:43great, Every single line had a hit to it. Once again, Ali
- 38:46is incredible. So when she said that she wanted to collaborate with me for
- 38:50next year, I got very excited. And I'm not gonna talk about what
- 38:52we're talking about, but I'll just say she's not slowing down. So yeah,
- 39:00I was. I was very proud to lose to that. My my
- 39:02podcast co host is very talented. Thank you other podcast. Oh okay,
- 39:09okay, okay, again, you're talented in very different ways. You do
- 39:13not have those talents? No, no, I do not. No live
- 39:19lyric me. Wow, where did that word come from? I was gonna
- 39:22say lyrically and rhythmically, I have very I'm not as talented, so I
- 39:28can do some lyrics. I feel like I've come up with some good lyrics,
- 39:30you know, just substituting and stuff like that. But like, yeah,
- 39:35no, I'm not. I'm not the wordsmith that some of these people
- 39:37are. The vocal smith. She is a screenwriter. That is her job.
- 39:43She's she does the words professionally. I do the machines. It does
- 39:46not apply to this sort of talent show quite so well. That's eight eight
- 39:51videos. We are halfway through, all right. Origin of Thirsty the Clown.
- 40:08Oh my god, Oh my god. His his videos are always memorable,
- 40:14which I get. This is another one where the singer is not the
- 40:16author of the lyrics. The singer is not at all a fan of real
- 40:20of time, just puts on the drag and does the performance. Because you
- 40:23don't need to know. We have time to make this kind of a performance
- 40:28possible. So, oh my god, enjoy Thirsty's absolute nonsense. Origin of
- 40:30Love has to be one of my favorite songs of all time. By the
- 40:34way, I don't know if you know that I love head winging the Angry
- 40:36Inch as a movie showed it to never if I could sing this in karaoke
- 40:42in a heartbeat, I would do this in karaoke. Familiar I'm bad,
- 40:45I'm bad, Millennial. The original story works so fucking well. I'm so
- 40:49impressed with this idea, Like I am just absolutely like I know exactly how
- 40:53this story is going to go down because the parallels are there, and I'm
- 40:58so excited for it. Happy and Grendal to be the one to sing this
- 41:06is just so perfect. The guy said that I love when the fan speed
- 41:15gets turned up. All right, that might be my new favorite. Like,
- 41:22that's absolutely insane that I put that number one, absolutely easily above anything
- 41:29else. I had to get voted back in as a wild card, actually
- 41:31got knocked out of the initial voting on the preliminary nights and got wild card
- 41:35voted back in. I forget, it's all a blur. Oh no,
- 41:38it lost to Blind Brad's submission. I forget what song he did, but
- 41:44I remember that I voted for Blind Brad thinking that it was kind of like,
- 41:47you know, I want to make sure that everyone gets enough of votes,
- 41:50and then it ended up being really close and that song lost. And
- 41:54yeah, So the author of that is Tran Fear, a trans man who
- 41:59I talked to at Waltcon and we ended up he had to remind me like
- 42:07months later because we were very drunk when we talked about this, but he
- 42:09ended up interviewing me for an academic paper he's working on about transreadings of the
- 42:17wheel of time, specifically because you know, identify as non binary, and
- 42:22I have strong opinions about binary, about the gender binary specifically informed b wheel
- 42:25of time. So I was like, I need to give you my internal
- 42:29gender dissertation because we have time. Is the whole framework for how I understand
- 42:34why I do not vibe with the binary. So we had a great conversation,
- 42:37and as far as I know, he's still looking for people to interview.
- 42:39So if anyone out there has that perspective and wants to talk about it,
- 42:45send me a message. I will get you in touch with someone who
- 42:46wants to talk to you about it. Well. And I find Hedwig such
- 42:50an interesting topic, especially when compared to someone like Helima, which I noticed
- 42:52they didn't use right, because in a lot of ways, Hedwig and Helima
- 42:59have an incredibly parallel story, right, because they were both men. Hadwig
- 43:04was a cross dressing man but still a man, not a trans person,
- 43:08right, who involuntarily had their penis removed in order to get out of Russia.
- 43:15I've heard this story like to that degree before, I've never actually watched
- 43:17the movie or I'm not familiar with it, right, So, and it's
- 43:22but right, and that's sort of the and then of course, like a
- 43:24few years later the Wall falls a nineteen eighty four, the Berlin wallfalls,
- 43:29and Hedwig is like, why did I go through all this when I would
- 43:32have just like if I waited a couple of years, I could have just
- 43:35left. What the fuck you said? Eighty four? But what was it?
- 43:37One? Yeah, I did. It is a famous book. But
- 43:40the Wall fell in ninety Yes, the Wall fell in ninety one. Sorry
- 43:45so, but like, yeah, basically you know how we gets out of
- 43:47out of Russia, comes to America, but sacrifices this huge thing, right,
- 43:52this like very important thing to them. It's not like they get surgery
- 43:55and receive you know, a gender reassign at surgery. This is just removal,
- 44:02just to get just take it off, to get out a and and
- 44:07the way that parallels Helima, right, who is this man who is has
- 44:14his genitals in this case transition, but is put in a woman's body even
- 44:17though they never wanted to be or intended to be. Right, but Helena
- 44:22is just too so Granda, Yeah, and you know there's there's some issues
- 44:29there. We'll go grand now, but I think it would have been really
- 44:30interesting to redo this and and change the singer to Helema and see how they
- 44:37would have changed the lyrics and how that would have changed the song. But
- 44:42do the same concept in the same song, just with Halima as singer.
- 44:45Well, if we decided we want to start doing just our own like non
- 44:49contest parodies, I mean, there's no reason we couldn't do our own take.
- 44:53This is too good, though I would never I would never want to
- 44:55like try and do a slight variation of it. That's yes, yes,
- 45:01absolutely absolutely, But you know, I mean the balloops, can we can
- 45:06we just a moment for the balloops. They're just the blues, the whole
- 45:10cross dress, the grend All costuming is just the intensity because Grandall is the
- 45:19drag queen aeus of them. I mean maybe as Moodian would go like full
- 45:22eightieses like hair band, but yeah, just the over the top. This
- 45:28is so perfect for Grandal, and she knows all the things about the about
- 45:32the age of Legends, so like that all feels right coming from her.
- 45:36And yeah, it's one of those ones where it's like I don't know the
- 45:37original, but this is clearly a fantastic rendition and I love it so much
- 45:45because I have to understand, like gosh, we talked about this, But
- 45:47I grew up in what is probably the South you can consider the South right
- 45:52for most of my life, and it wasn't exposed to a lot of shall
- 45:55we say, diversity in my life, and so going to college was sort
- 46:00of a very much awakening for me in terms of things that I knew existed
- 46:05but had never experienced or been around people who had experienced, and so sort
- 46:07of being shown headweight in The Angry Inch was my first reel foray into Wait,
- 46:12gender is not a binary like my first reel, and so like this,
- 46:16I have a lot of fondness for the most of this movie, even
- 46:19though I mean some people find there's certain parts of it that don't age the
- 46:22best because it's not fully defining. I don't know, it feels like because
- 46:28it's operating in a time when we just didn't have the terms that we have
- 46:30now. And definitely so there's a piece of art from the middle of a
- 46:34conversation. How dare it? Yeah? Exactly right right, right, right,
- 46:37right right. So it's one of those things where it's like you have
- 46:39to understand that and understand that, like it's in the middle of the conversation
- 46:44and it's not where we are today in that conversation. But for me,
- 46:47I just I find it to be a very important archive of things that I
- 46:51care about and know about and sort of the first time I went oh,
- 46:57oh that's awesome, that's very cool. Yeah, yeah, it was,
- 47:02you know, because the weal of time had always done that, but it's
- 47:06it was more of a real world, right, sort of pushing me into
- 47:07really understanding actually grounding it in the world that you had some ability to interact
- 47:13with exactly there is no channeling in your world, but there is a USSR.
- 47:16Well there was, I mean there wasn't by the time that you were
- 47:19watching this, but like you existed in a world where the USSR was real.
- 47:23Yeah, and I remember the Fall of the exactly exactly like that is
- 47:29that around? Yeah, yeah, you know, and that and that this
- 47:32person had to escape that and then ended up kind of bitter that it happened.
- 47:37You know, they gave up all this stuff when they could have just
- 47:39waited. And it's it's like that gambling Right, what's what's that movie?
- 47:43I think it's the mist right with this movie? Okay, so the movie
- 47:47goes on, it's a horror movie, right, this guy. Anyone who
- 47:50goes out into the mist, leaves a building is murdered horribly by monsters,
- 47:54right, Like that's the premise, right, And this family survives, and
- 47:58they really they get to the end end of the movie and they're in a
- 48:01car and it's out of gas and there's nowhere to go and nothing to do.
- 48:06And so in order to prevent horrible death by monsters, the father kills
- 48:09his whole family day, right, And as he goes to kill himself,
- 48:14the gun fails and he gives himself up to the monsters, and instead of
- 48:17the monsters, the US Army comes walking through, having pushed back everybody.
- 48:22And so if he just waited, and at the end of the movie,
- 48:24right, if he just waited five minutes, his family would be alive and
- 48:29happful, you know that sort of Yeah? Anyway, Yeah, that's that's
- 48:32rough. Living through tumultuous times is difficult, and you make choices, right,
- 48:37You make choices based on the best information you have, and sometimes you're
- 48:42wrong and you have you make terrible choices based on that information. Yea.
- 48:45Even just little choices like should I get on this train or not can like
- 48:50lead to like getting out of poland or not right right, yeah, okay,
- 48:59yeah yeah, because you can't see the future. We don't know,
- 49:00yeah exactly, Like my ancestors bounced like a good long while before shit got
- 49:06hairy. But also like they saw the writing on the wall and were like,
- 49:10seems like a good time to leave before it gets hard to leave.
- 49:15We're just we're gonna get out like a whole generation ahead of the shit that's
- 49:19coming. And then there were other people who like waited one week too long
- 49:22and just that was too much, right, But like these were all decisions
- 49:25made blindly in the dark, having no idea how long it was gonna be
- 49:30before this inevitable storm broke. I always wonder how long what signs were missing?
- 49:36Not a lot. If you bother to listen to the academics, we're
- 49:39pretty well well aware of all the signs that are happening right now. We've
- 49:45gone a very clearly articulated path following a very well understood playbook, according to
- 49:51what the what the book said, I mean, the academics are all tearing
- 49:54their hair out, being like, do you not see, well, we're
- 49:58not missing anything except for you know, the cohesion and political will to do
- 50:01anything about it to the next song. The next song, Okay, so
- 50:09obviously I have feelings about that. Moving on. Ye oh yeah, this
- 50:20one Recoy again, Bailfire, Wheel of Time, Parent by Bonfire by a
- 50:27Childish Campino nailed this one. Yeah. Recoy last year did this really creepy
- 50:36song called Little Boxes and it was just really creepy, And there was a
- 50:39little cameo of little Boxes in Salia's video when she talked about boxing up.
- 50:45The dragon behind her was the little Boxes. But yeah, then totally went
- 50:51away on a way harder level this year than Little Boxes last year, Like
- 50:57the duty like a mountain range just one of my favorite lines ever because geology
- 51:04nice. Nice, Yeah, and this one goes hard on Rand, Like
- 51:07I feel like we've been doing a lot of like other characters now and it's
- 51:08nice to see like just a Rand sometimes, Like I want to remind people
- 51:14the books are about Rand. I know, there's the whole line it's not
- 51:16about him, it's about everybody else. But the reason when you have to
- 51:20say it's not about Rand, it's not sure. Yeah, yeah, there
- 51:25was. There was a lot of sad boy Ran songs, but I'm guessing
- 51:28we're going to find those in like the middle of the rankings because so many
- 51:30of the interesting characters are who ended up getting voted high up. But I
- 51:35bet as we get into the more middle section right right, like you know
- 51:38songs seventeen onward, I think you'll find there's a lot more sad boy rand
- 51:43songs. Oh but yeah, I really liked a lot of the of the
- 51:47references in this one. Dude, you like a mountain range. I think
- 51:52that's another one. I'm gonna have to go back and just play it slowly
- 51:54to actually read and comprehend the lyrics because there was so much to it.
- 51:59It did it well, went by so fast that I'm still I'm like,
- 52:01wait, trying to get Yeah. Yeah, I'm not familiar with the original.
- 52:05I just know that I like childish Cambino songs in general, but nonetheless
- 52:07yet very very I really enjoyed that upgrade from Little Boxes, Shamel's Secret one,
- 52:16I forget Scendario Yeah, yeah, Sindaria, Yeah, a shame secret.
- 52:21Yeah. This was fun, suspatulous the whole He's not a dark one,
- 52:30He's just the dude. Another song. I really loved the original Love
- 52:36the Nights again, dude. The end is great. There there was a
- 52:46lot of like white auja represent in the chat when that came up, because
- 52:52if you made it to the final sixteen, your whole video got shown.
- 52:55Like that's really like the only material prize is if you make it to top
- 53:00sixteen, your whole video will get shown. Then, Yeah, the chat
- 53:07definitely melted down with white ouch of pread. Yeah, And I feel like
- 53:13these songs are always fall into a couple of categories. There's the one where
- 53:15the chorus is the majority of the song and there's like a couple of connecting
- 53:21lines, but really it's just the chorus that gets repeated a couple of times.
- 53:23I feel like this falls in that category, whereas some of the more
- 53:25rap songs or some of the more lyrical ones like Alleys, the lyrics are
- 53:30able to vary a little bit more over the course of the song, and
- 53:34I I think I like that category of song more simply because there's more storytelling
- 53:38potential. But sometimes these are right, this is joppable, this is danceable.
- 53:44This can get stuck in your head in a different way. Yeah,
- 53:46exactly exactly, because you're like all you need to memorize is those three or
- 53:50four lines, and then it's like, yeah, this is a bop.
- 53:52I can sing along to this, I can. I can enjoy the hell
- 53:54out of that. Yeah, And it's making kind of like one point right,
- 53:58like Sean Mayel's just guy, and then there's a couple of lines around
- 54:00that, but it's not really doing much more than that, right. And
- 54:05I've always I've looked at that, and when we've tried to make videos,
- 54:07I've always like tried to do ones that are more lyrical, so there's more
- 54:13ins and outs, more storytelling, Beau. That's where I feel like my
- 54:15abilities lie is like adding the storytelling and creating that sort of thing. Whereas
- 54:20whereas the simple ones need to be better produced. They need to be high
- 54:23quality audio, interesting video, and something you want to sing along with,
- 54:29so you've got to have good pipes. It's Patuss in this case. Where's
- 54:32a lot of the more storytelling ones, you know, the Bob Dylan ones,
- 54:35you can be like, ah, just docking the Dylan you know.
- 54:39Yeah. Yeah. It's interesting how people choose their songs. I mean definitely
- 54:43like watching all the entries and trying to figure like what songs of my singing
- 54:45repertoire like fit in these different bins and how I do them. It's like
- 54:50it makes me want to start a channel just full of parodies, just so
- 54:52I can do all the ideas, you know, the parody channel. Yeah,
- 54:57it makes me want to do it. It'd be so much work.
- 54:59I do not have that kind of time, but I feel like the time
- 55:02and I and I just I don't have the I do. But I have
- 55:08to go learn to sing, right, Like I have to like do a
- 55:12whole musical thing, like everything from singing to music, to instruments to editing.
- 55:20All of that, I feel like is a skill on its own,
- 55:22and I don't feel like I have a I have a couple of pieces.
- 55:25I have family with a couple other pieces, but I have other things I
- 55:30need to be working on. Yeah, this doesn't be the bills unfortunately,
- 55:35doing parodies because that contest is fun because then you get to other people provide
- 55:40all this cool art and you just get to daydream about what you could have
- 55:43done if you had all the time in the world. Okay, all the
- 55:45time in the world. The next one is Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Time
- 55:50and guid by Penny Penny. Yeah there's two. Yeah, this is fun,
- 55:54all right, there we got another song I had never heard before.
- 55:57I like using the map, I know the song original, sure, for
- 56:00sure. I really like the editing and the use of the clip art and
- 56:04the way she's using the various layers of images to create story and her hair.
- 56:10I love her And the costume is great though. Yeah she's an the
- 56:15Soldier boy. Oh okay, gotcha. I don't know why I can't.
- 56:19I never think of the Ashman jacket as having gold buttons. I think that's
- 56:22what throws me off. Always forget in the middle of that. Wow,
- 56:32so unexpected, such tight harmonies. Yeah, kid Rand got a cameo,
- 56:42Yes, but that is but that the child is kid Rand, but yes,
- 56:45yes, the character is all he actually had his own entry Kid Rand
- 56:50does later on. But yeah, he's a cameo there, which is very
- 56:52very cute. That was very cute. That was great, the universing use
- 56:57of song like talk about oldies right, going way back and pulling from some
- 57:00some real swing music. But yeah, that was That's fun. And like
- 57:05you said, just yeah, top talent, top editing. Tight harmonies like
- 57:08those are not easy harmonies to do, Like I would be terrified to try
- 57:12to do something that tight. And I'll take your word on that one close
- 57:16together, which is just so like, if you fuck that up, you
- 57:20you are train wrecking the sound, right, you know, it's like it
- 57:22is precision or bust with that sort of thing. So yeah, just fantastic
- 57:29performance. I love everything about that video. It's just I'm just dancing in
- 57:32my chair. It's so fun. Rode I was twelve, so we've got
- 57:42four more halfway through this, so that's three quarters of the way. They're
- 57:45Kevin God, damn fucking Kevin. This is Kevin, so yeah, Kevin
- 57:49with the Dragon anonymous versus mister Dice. Sorry Kevin, I love you,
- 57:52but fuck you. Uh I want to go. You got you. We're
- 57:58doing top sixteen, That's what it is. This is a wow card thing
- 58:00because people have are inside Kevin Okay, Kevin okay, ken I know what,
- 58:16I know what I know both incredibly tight lyrics, really weird and somehow
- 58:22also very low effort. Kevin what only Kevin only Kevin? I I love
- 58:31it right right when I lost my wild card vote and this got in,
- 58:37I I just Kevin, I love you, man, but what the fuck.
- 58:46I'll have the mix one. Oh my god, remind me who did
- 58:51this? Mags Magsican the Audrey wrote she says, performed by Audrey Rosing.
- 59:00Okay, yeah, yeah, fan Servicembie, but it's from Barbie. But
- 59:07this is the song from Barbie in that beautiful delicate tone. Mm mm hmmm.
- 59:20Yeah. The cosplay, the dolls, the audio quality, her lyrics
- 59:24are all amazing. That was really really with being the Barbie song and playing
- 59:30with the dolls. Just I didn't even think about that, but that that
- 59:36makes Yeah, it's not necessarily my favorite song to say a long yeah,
- 59:42yeah, I mean it's a ballad like yeah, it's about yeah, but
- 59:46like then are you familiar with the original, Yeah, yeah, I just
- 59:51does such a justice to the tone of the original and then the cost play
- 59:55and I just yeah, just yeah again not great for a singer long around
- 1:00:00the drunken circle, but like just a fantastic execution. And what she did
- 1:00:07is she told the story of land start to finish, right, like that
- 1:00:10was basically what that was was the entire like this is land fear. And
- 1:00:15I have a soft spot for those songs that are like take do like a
- 1:00:20character study because like we did those forsaken character study episodes, remember like always
- 1:00:25finish, I mean someday, right, do we have account of how many
- 1:00:32we have left? You guys got half way ish plus, so yeah,
- 1:00:40and I think, didn't you and I do one or two? We might
- 1:00:43have? But yeah, yeah, it's it's very cool how she actually tells
- 1:00:46the whole last story from start to finish and then walks away at the end.
- 1:00:52It's great. It's great and very very low budget but not low effort,
- 1:00:57right right. The feelings made it made you bad for Land here in
- 1:01:01a way that like, yeah, it's just like because like and there is
- 1:01:07that certain sympathy for Land, fear of like she bored into the dark ones
- 1:01:13prison and like I had loved this Lewis Theren and like ended up in this
- 1:01:17position where, yeah, she didn't make all the right choices, but man,
- 1:01:22it feels like if she'd made just a few better choices, she could
- 1:01:27have been an amazing right, right, it's hard not to mourn for her
- 1:01:30and be like what could have been? And that wistful song with those delicate
- 1:01:35vocals, it's just like, h yeah, I feel for Land fair now.
- 1:01:38But don't forget to think she carefully didn't mention that at this point,
- 1:01:43So yeah, there is that and I'm like, why did she drill into
- 1:01:47the board? Right? She thought she could get loose there and back if
- 1:01:51she triple PhD or whatever. Yeah? Probably all right, who's next?
- 1:01:58Uh? Next? I read all Night? I forget by seeing so Jesus
- 1:02:07Christ because I hear it called out on live stream and they're like pretty active
- 1:02:12in the community, and I just I hung out in like a thousand hours
- 1:02:15of live stream. That's how gotcha another fan tribute. That video reminds me
- 1:02:23how good the animated are and how much they are true to the books in
- 1:02:29a way that the live action, the use of the origin stuff was really
- 1:02:34inspired for that one. Yeah, then the whole read all night like I
- 1:02:38did right when these books came out. I always wanted. That's all I
- 1:02:43did was read the next one is for me, I guess, rather than
- 1:02:46sleep through work. But yeah, I still I don't think there's anything else
- 1:02:51like that that I loved as much as Yeah, it's a really good phantom.
- 1:02:54We're definitely going to be singing that in group because just that chorus I
- 1:02:59read all it's all your heart into it. Yeah, and just those pipes
- 1:03:05like Sean Stoney, I recall, I don't recall every video that she's done.
- 1:03:12But I remember last year was disturbed Sound of Silence, the disturbed version
- 1:03:17of Sound of Silence but like turned into a Hinderstap song. It was awesome,
- 1:03:21but it was very soft and like whispery and creepy because it was you
- 1:03:24know, like I mean, it's disturbed, but it's disturbed doing Sound of
- 1:03:28Silence. That was the parody. This just belting like Wall of Sound.
- 1:03:34Was like, wow, that's just the range, the range on this singer.
- 1:03:40Fantastic, very very good. Yeah. No, that one that one
- 1:03:45happened might hit me in the feels, right if you want to say,
- 1:03:49like I was like burging on tears on that one, right, Like literally
- 1:03:52could feel that that welling up that you get when something really hazy. I
- 1:03:58feel seen it's that yeah, because I did. I mean that's I mean
- 1:04:01the reading all night, it's you know again, it makes me go,
- 1:04:04do I have any original experiences? Or am I just like a copy of
- 1:04:08a copy of a copy of the internet learning where you have the place where
- 1:04:11you learn. You've never had original experience? Right? Has anyone ever Yes,
- 1:04:16yes, someone else has done that. I promise you there were seven
- 1:04:19billion people. It's wild. How how that feeling can hit eight billion?
- 1:04:24How many people are on the planet the east to eight or or we crossed
- 1:04:28eight recently? I forget Jesus Christ a lot. Yeah, are we gonna
- 1:04:32supposed to plateau around thirteen eleven? But yeah, the plateau is somewhere past
- 1:04:38ten, but before fifteen. It'd be fine if we stopped hoarding wealth for
- 1:04:43like a few people. But we stop hoarding wealth for those people, I
- 1:04:46might not be able to hoard well. And I don't know if that's acceptable.
- 1:04:50Existential dread a side. Do we have more videos to watch? We
- 1:04:54have one final video, and please edit that down essential. I'm a little
- 1:05:00more hopefully hopeful. We're saying hopeful, all right, last video, Final
- 1:05:05final video. Stabby Girl. Yes, yes, always love their work.
- 1:05:14And you know, Barbie Girl also one of my favorite songs. I love
- 1:05:18the Yeah, come on kill somebody. That's fantastic. That's a great catch
- 1:05:23line. Yeah, chop I yeel great reference. Definitely a niche, niche
- 1:05:30reference, deep deep in the wheel of time. Nice that that is high
- 1:05:36on the fun scale. That is what I would say. She looks like
- 1:05:40she has so much fun making it. And the little Todd draws animations off
- 1:05:44to the side, like mm, those those have to honestly, yeah,
- 1:05:49my favorite videos the ones with just like someone had fun making them, right,
- 1:05:54Like, maybe not my favorite songs, but of my favorite videos for
- 1:05:57sure, because my favorite songs are still the ones that are just amazing,
- 1:06:00right like, but the videos where people are just having fun, like yeah
- 1:06:02and just to make cha fai yeel into that in that bubbly like silly space.
- 1:06:08It's just it's so perfect mood matching, right because it's it was kind
- 1:06:13of making fun of cho Yeah it's try hard. Yeah, yeah, it
- 1:06:17was like it was kind of like the I was going for with Godwin and
- 1:06:20indoor. An idiot was like, you know, this is like we all
- 1:06:25love this song, but like, let's be real about the mood here.
- 1:06:28You know, I love it all right now we have to start talking about
- 1:06:33our parodies for extion, I know, right right. Yeah, So with
- 1:06:38that, I think we should end this recording because we've now lasted over two
- 1:06:42hours. I hope that we can come back and watch like another sixteen at
- 1:06:45some point. They obviously get weirder and wilder from here, because this was
- 1:06:49the top sixteen that got voted up out of eighty two, but at least
- 1:06:55forty five minutes of those two hours are just gone from Simon. Oh yeah,
- 1:06:58for sure, it's going to be a great length for ORD. But
- 1:07:00you know, as far as our brain power goes, I hope everyone enjoyed
- 1:07:04that little bonus episode to un't make my edit job easier this week. So
