- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. What if I told you the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Chargers have eaten Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Kansas
- 0:15Speaker 1: City too straight years? Can they do it? Three? We
- 0:18Speaker 1: are live at Arrowhead ahead of tannaf. Also coming up,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Tom Brady and the Bucceteers look to go to tu
- 0:25Speaker 1: and o what they have to do to finally beat
- 0:28Speaker 1: the Saints in New Orleans. Plus, we'll talk to Antoine
- 0:31Speaker 1: Winfield Jr. And coming up this hour on NFL Now,
- 0:36Speaker 1: how patient do we need to be with Aaron Rodgers
- 0:40Speaker 1: and the Packers as they get the bear Sunday? That's next.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Also coming up on this show, the latest on the
- 0:55Speaker 1: breaking news from Seattle on Jamal Adams. The Seahawks are
- 0:59Speaker 1: shutting him down for the year. He is done. Ian
- 1:02Speaker 1: Rappaport has those details. We welcome you to a game
- 1:07Speaker 1: day edition of the NFL Now on NFL Network from
- 1:10Speaker 1: our newsroom here in Los Angeles. My name is Andrew Siciliana.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We begin this hour on a game day by getting
- 1:16Speaker 1: right to that game. It's at Arrowhead. It's where Patrick
- 1:20Speaker 1: Mahomes in the Chiefs look to go to two and
- 1:21Speaker 1: oh with a great quarterback battle tonight against Justin Herbert
- 1:27Speaker 1: and the Kansas City Chiefs. Live on the field, everybody,
- 1:33Speaker 1: it's James Palmer at Arrowhead. How are you James with
- 1:36Speaker 1: the Chargers defense? Come in to town here? That did
- 1:39Speaker 1: the job last week two quarterback pressures. Khalil Mack did
- 1:44Speaker 1: his thing. They spent the money. It was money well spent.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It really was Andrew. Actually neither one of these quarterbacks
- 1:51Speaker 1: were sacked in week one, and we're gonna take a
- 1:53Speaker 1: look at what Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa can do
- 1:56Speaker 1: when they're going after Patrick Mahomes because they believe teams
- 1:59Speaker 1: can't double both of them. But what Khalil Mac brings
- 2:02Speaker 1: is a presence, I'm told, the presence in the locker him,
- 2:05Speaker 1: a presence on the field that you just can't ignore.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And you mentioned those twenty two quarterback pressures, Well, how
- 2:09Speaker 1: about three sacks for Khalil Mack four quarterback hits. But
- 2:13Speaker 1: the biggest thing that stands out to his teammates is
- 2:15Speaker 1: how he was able to help close out the game
- 2:17Speaker 1: with that stripped sack of Derek Carr, where he was
- 2:20Speaker 1: able to do something that the Chargers have struggled with
- 2:23Speaker 1: the last couple of seasons, which is finding ways to
- 2:25Speaker 1: win games at the end of a game. Now, it
- 2:28Speaker 1: is a very big task for this Chief's offensive line
- 2:31Speaker 1: that we know was Andrew one of the best in
- 2:33Speaker 1: the NFL. And Andy Reid said Orlando Brown, he wants
- 2:36Speaker 1: a Merit badge. This is the type of game that
- 2:38Speaker 1: you get one of those. When you're going against Khalil
- 2:40Speaker 1: Mack and Joey Bosa. The biggest thing to keep your
- 2:43Speaker 1: eye on is both those edge rushers want to keep
- 2:45Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes inside the pocket. The Chargers believe, like a
- 2:48Speaker 1: lot of us, that Patrick Mahomes is more dangerous outside
- 2:52Speaker 1: of the pocket. So if they can contain him and
- 2:54Speaker 1: not blitz him like the Cardinals did a game ago,
- 2:57Speaker 1: they believe they can get after Patrick Mahomes. That offensive
- 2:59Speaker 1: line against those pass rushers should be a fun one
- 3:01Speaker 1: to watch. Percent of the time. The Cardinals last week,
- 3:06Speaker 1: it did not work. I love that a merit badge
- 3:09Speaker 1: tonight potentially for Zeus Jr. Thank you, James Palmer Live
- 3:14Speaker 1: and Arrowhead. Uh. Let's compare these quarterbacks career head to head.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I said, they've won their The Chargers have won there
- 3:22Speaker 1: each of the last two years. To be fair, before
- 3:24Speaker 1: Chiefs Twitter blows up here in was in December, the
- 3:29Speaker 1: Chiefs had already wrapped up their playoffs stuff here, so
- 3:32Speaker 1: that was a Chad Henny game. Regardless, Justin Herbert played
- 3:36Speaker 1: well in that game in Arrowhead, and they're trying to
- 3:38Speaker 1: make it three in a row in Kansas City coming
- 3:39Speaker 1: up this evening. It's Mark Ross Is Brian Baldinger back
- 3:42Speaker 1: with me on game Day on NFL. Now, after you
- 3:45Speaker 1: saw what Herbert did last week, what does he have
- 3:49Speaker 1: to do tonight, Mark to win again? Because some of
- 3:52Speaker 1: those throws were just like they're honestly, they were Dan
- 3:56Speaker 1: Marino throws. I mean, just sick Andrew. I mean, I'm
- 4:00Speaker 1: excited to just see this guy progressed to get better.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And these guys go against each other. But forget all that,
- 4:05Speaker 1: forget all the talent, the big time plays. He's gotta win.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have dominated this division. Patrick
- 4:11Speaker 1: Mahomes has been the standard of not just the division
- 4:14Speaker 1: but the NFL as a whole, the best quarterback in
- 4:17Speaker 1: the league. And Justin Herbert has the talent, he has
- 4:21Speaker 1: to develop the maturity and the playmate gig to to
- 4:23Speaker 1: stay with Mahomes, But the bigger picture is he has
- 4:27Speaker 1: to lead his teams to victories. And just as Mahomes
- 4:30Speaker 1: all offseason, we're talking about what happens if he loses
- 4:32Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill with how's the offense gonna look? He goes
- 4:35Speaker 1: out there and explodes on Thursday night with Justin Herbert,
- 4:38Speaker 1: He's not probably not gonna have Keenan Allen. So okay, now,
- 4:41Speaker 1: how do I raise the level of my entire offense
- 4:45Speaker 1: and make plays and win this game despite not having
- 4:48Speaker 1: my best? So the standard for Justin Herbert is, I've
- 4:51Speaker 1: seen what Patrick Mahomes has done. Let me go out
- 4:53Speaker 1: here and make plays no matter what's around me. And
- 4:56Speaker 1: with this and Drew, you know what really stood out
- 5:00Speaker 1: to me, Baldy, about what Mahomes did without Tyreek Hills.
- 5:03Speaker 1: We always talk about the great, the truly elite quarterbacks
- 5:07Speaker 1: that they raised the level of play of everyone around them.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So you take away his truly elite playmaker and Baldi,
- 5:16Speaker 1: look what he did. Well. You know many people have
- 5:18Speaker 1: talked about, you know, throwing the nine different receivers, four
- 5:21Speaker 1: different receivers called touchdown passes, but really it's what the
- 5:24Speaker 1: defense does to tell you where to go with the ball.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And I've got a couple of examples here just from
- 5:30Speaker 1: last week. Like they love to isolate Travis Kelsey, and
- 5:34Speaker 1: against the Cardinals, when they isolate him, they had Isaiah
- 5:36Speaker 1: Simmons on him three by one, set cleared out. Let
- 5:39Speaker 1: Kelsey go to work, and you can see just the
- 5:41Speaker 1: release right there. I mean, he already gets separation and
- 5:44Speaker 1: now all my homes have to do is just floating,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know, And it's just an elite receiver right spot.
- 5:49Speaker 1: You get yourself the first touchdown the season. But now
- 5:52Speaker 1: if you watch Juju Smith Schuster here, I mean it's
- 5:54Speaker 1: a crossing route in the middle of the field and
- 5:56Speaker 1: they're really gonna layer it, so you're gonna have some
- 5:58Speaker 1: underneath receivers right here. But as soon as Bahomes sees
- 6:02Speaker 1: these two underneath defenders lamp on those two underneath receivers,
- 6:07Speaker 1: the ball goes to Juju Smith Houston, you know, one
- 6:09Speaker 1: of six catches on the day. So the defense determines
- 6:12Speaker 1: where the ball goes. Another example, bunch formation, Marquez Valdes
- 6:16Speaker 1: scantly here in the bunch, and you're gonna see the
- 6:19Speaker 1: Cardinals are gonna blitz the middle of the field right here,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and he's gonna read the zone and he's just gonna
- 6:24Speaker 1: choke it down right there in the zone. Bahomes gets
- 6:27Speaker 1: it to him, great timing and that he can explode
- 6:29Speaker 1: after the catch. And then finally Mahomes is just so good.
- 6:32Speaker 1: And we'll see this tonight when the pocket does break down,
- 6:35Speaker 1: when Xavien Collins is coming free right at him. His
- 6:38Speaker 1: ability to navigate the pocket is second to none in
- 6:41Speaker 1: the league. And then like Brooks Robinson from third base
- 6:44Speaker 1: right here, like any throw from any angle, he hit
- 6:47Speaker 1: sky Bore on the run, perfect throw. I know Mark
- 6:50Speaker 1: loves sky Boar. Mark. He almost broke it right there.
- 6:53Speaker 1: They almost got through that that gauntlet into the end zone.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I mean, he's he's gonna be something to watch as
- 6:58Speaker 1: these weeks start to go by here and his role
- 7:01Speaker 1: gets bigger and bigger, pulling Brooks Robinson had there for
- 7:05Speaker 1: the old school. That's good Baldi For those who don't
- 7:08Speaker 1: know Brooks Robinson legendary third Basement the Baltimore Orioles Hall
- 7:11Speaker 1: of Famer, one of the best clubs you'll ever see.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Nolan Erroonado now or Gee or Shella probably that's where
- 7:16Speaker 1: you would go for the kids for great third base. Yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 1: well done. I'm a different generation now, I get it.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I got you. I grew up there. Thank you, Baldi,
- 7:25Speaker 1: thank you Mark. Let's get to the bucketeers. Speaking of
- 7:28Speaker 1: old Tom Brady forty five years old. Didn't look his age,
- 7:31Speaker 1: did he on Sunday night in Dallas? Now? Now he's
- 7:36Speaker 1: trying to keep it rolling with that rebuilt offensive line
- 7:39Speaker 1: and who knows who's playing wide receiver against the Saints.
- 7:45Speaker 1: We're far from a finished product. Um. You know, we're
- 7:50Speaker 1: not where we're gonna be at where we're gonna be
- 7:52Speaker 1: in a couple of months. There's still a lot of
- 7:53Speaker 1: new players. You know, even looking at that field the
- 7:55Speaker 1: other night, you know, Julio's new shots, new cage, new
- 8:00Speaker 1: Co's new, Coyle's new Robert Haines is Luke's new shacks. Knew.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's different teams. So it takes a while.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It takes a lot of a lot of meetings, a
- 8:12Speaker 1: lot of communication of practices, a lot of situations. So, um,
- 8:16Speaker 1: we're far from finished product. We're gonna try to keep
- 8:19Speaker 1: working at every day to see what we can do
- 8:20Speaker 1: to improve, all right, And a lot of those new pieces, Hi,
- 8:24Speaker 1: Sarah Walsh, not new. You've been around this team for
- 8:26Speaker 1: a little bit. Um are hurt. There's a long list
- 8:29Speaker 1: of injuries after only one week, Sarah. I was told
- 8:34Speaker 1: when I arrived at Bucks practice today that if you
- 8:36Speaker 1: looked at their injury report from Wednesday, that injury report
- 8:39Speaker 1: could beat any team in the league. And that wasn't
- 8:41Speaker 1: necessarily a good thing. It speaks to the star power
- 8:45Speaker 1: that was on there on Wednesday if you take a
- 8:47Speaker 1: look at it. Now, let's whiddle this down. Tom Brady
- 8:49Speaker 1: is not injured. He was listed on there. That was
- 8:51Speaker 1: just a veteran day off for him yesterday. But then
- 8:54Speaker 1: when you look at his receiving court, there were five
- 8:56Speaker 1: receivers listed on that injury report. The biggest one that
- 8:58Speaker 1: everyone is keeping an eye on those obviously Chris god
- 9:01Speaker 1: when he made his return from that knee surgery in
- 9:03Speaker 1: Week one and then had to act at the game
- 9:05Speaker 1: at the hamstring injury. We have not seen him since.
- 9:07Speaker 1: He was not seen out there today and we really
- 9:09Speaker 1: don't know the extent or how long he might be out.
- 9:12Speaker 1: The other injury that's really notable that everyone's watching his
- 9:15Speaker 1: left tackle, Donovan Smith. He left that game with a
- 9:17Speaker 1: hyper extended elbow. The good news is it's not particularly serious.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It is, however, very painful, So it's a pain tolerance
- 9:25Speaker 1: thing that they're going to have to manage. And you
- 9:26Speaker 1: just heard Tom talking about, Look, there's a lot of
- 9:28Speaker 1: new guys you have to practice, you have to meet.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So I asked him, when a lot of these guys
- 9:32Speaker 1: are out, how do you fill in the gaps there?
- 9:34Speaker 1: And he said, we have to make adjustments. Football is
- 9:36Speaker 1: a demolition derby. You'd love to have everybody healthy. That
- 9:39Speaker 1: is not the reality. So they have to make the
- 9:41Speaker 1: most of it and adjust when they have to andrew
- 9:43Speaker 1: against a team that has had Tom Brady's number four
- 9:46Speaker 1: in a row regular season. Sarah, did you catch how
- 9:49Speaker 1: Brady pointed out regular season? He didn't want anyone to
- 9:53Speaker 1: forget that. Yes, they beat them on the way to
- 9:55Speaker 1: the super Bowl in New Orleans a couple of years ago.
- 9:57Speaker 1: In the playoffs, they have lost seven straight regular season
- 10:03Speaker 1: games against the New Orleans Saints, which is just so
- 10:06Speaker 1: hard really to wrap your mind around when you think
- 10:08Speaker 1: about what this team has done. The one caveat is
- 10:10Speaker 1: the game that you pointed out the playoff game when
- 10:12Speaker 1: it mattered the most. But you know everyone wants to
- 10:15Speaker 1: say this is a rivalry game and the NFC South
- 10:18Speaker 1: and Tristan Worst told us that. By Todd Bowles was
- 10:21Speaker 1: very quick to point out that in arrival you have
- 10:23Speaker 1: to have a given take and there hasn't been a
- 10:24Speaker 1: lot of that on the Buck side of things. They
- 10:26Speaker 1: need to change it. And the biggest reason why is turnovers.
- 10:29Speaker 1: This is an astounding number, but over the course of
- 10:32Speaker 1: that streak where they have lost seven straight regular games,
- 10:35Speaker 1: fifteen takeaways for the Saints defense to just three on
- 10:38Speaker 1: the Buck side of things. That has to change. Byron
- 10:41Speaker 1: Leftwich told us today, you are not going to win
- 10:43Speaker 1: games by turning it over. In the National Football League.
- 10:46Speaker 1: It is an emphasis for Tom Brady this week, something
- 10:49Speaker 1: that they want to clean up against the Saints in particular,
- 10:53Speaker 1: and he said, we just have to play better football
- 10:55Speaker 1: if we think we're gonna win. By the way, the
- 10:57Speaker 1: Bucks the division champs last year in their team history,
- 11:00Speaker 1: they have never repeated as division champs. The Saints have
- 11:03Speaker 1: been a big reason why in that equation, Andrew, when
- 11:06Speaker 1: the Books won the Super Bowl, they did so as
- 11:09Speaker 1: a wild card. Big game here for the Saints as well,
- 11:12Speaker 1: want to prove their legitimacy and go to two and
- 11:14Speaker 1: oh in the division Big one Sunday in New Orleans.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Thank you Sarah Walsh there live at One Book Place.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Let's get our insiders in here now, Tom placeo Theater
- 11:23Speaker 1: Rappaport pack with me. I and you had the news
- 11:25Speaker 1: about thirty minutes ago from Seattle. Pete Carroll said it
- 11:29Speaker 1: was a serious injury Monday night, but then he kind
- 11:32Speaker 1: of tap danced around everything during the week. Now we know, yeah,
- 11:38Speaker 1: rough vote for Seattle and their standout safety. Jamal Adams
- 11:42Speaker 1: sources say he has expected to have season ending surgery
- 11:45Speaker 1: to repair his torn quad tendon. That means his two
- 11:50Speaker 1: is expected to be over. He is going to be
- 11:52Speaker 1: placed on injured reserve and Teased Tabor from the Atlanta
- 11:55Speaker 1: Falcons a corner is going to take his roster spot. Now.
- 11:58Speaker 1: As far as when the surgery is going to be,
- 12:00Speaker 1: my understanding is Adams has been talking to several different
- 12:03Speaker 1: doctors and within a week make the decision on who
- 12:06Speaker 1: does the procedure and when. But the results are expected
- 12:09Speaker 1: to be the same. His eyes now set on the
- 12:13Speaker 1: three season. Meanwhile, much much better news for j K. Dobbins,
- 12:17Speaker 1: who had serious surgery himself last season, now certainly seems
- 12:21Speaker 1: to be headed in the proper direction. He had a
- 12:24Speaker 1: full practice yesterday for the Baltimore Ravens as he attempts
- 12:27Speaker 1: to make his return from an A c L surgery
- 12:30Speaker 1: and a lot more. And obviously this has been much
- 12:33Speaker 1: debated his status, but the fact that it did full
- 12:35Speaker 1: practice on a Wednesday certainly seems like he is maybe
- 12:39Speaker 1: going to play this coming song all right. J K.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Dobbin speaking this week about how badly he wants to
- 12:43Speaker 1: play in front of those Baltimore fans remember as a
- 12:46Speaker 1: rookie was COVID. He wants to feel that energy and
- 12:49Speaker 1: get back on the field. Tom in Detroit, what is
- 12:53Speaker 1: the story about They're running back DeAndre Swift? Under DeAndre
- 12:56Speaker 1: Swift not practicing for a second consecutive day. He was
- 13:00Speaker 1: listed on the injury report on Wednesday with an ankle injury.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Swift told the Detroit Repressed that that injury actually happened
- 13:06Speaker 1: in the second quarter of this past Sunday's game against
- 13:09Speaker 1: the Eagles. He still finished the game, had eighteen touches,
- 13:12Speaker 1: was hugely impactful as the Lions tried and nearly pulled
- 13:15Speaker 1: off the comeback against the Eagles. That is gonna be
- 13:18Speaker 1: one to monitor to Swift get some work on Friday,
- 13:21Speaker 1: if not. Dan Campbell in the past driven situations where
- 13:24Speaker 1: players been able to play without practicing, but obviously an
- 13:27Speaker 1: uphill battle for Swift than keeps him off the field
- 13:30Speaker 1: for the entire week. One player we know is not
- 13:32Speaker 1: going to play this week is going to be Broncos
- 13:34Speaker 1: standout safety Justin Simmons, who landed on injured reserve because
- 13:38Speaker 1: of the thigh injury that he suffered in their game
- 13:41Speaker 1: on Monday night against the Seahawks. Another player who finished
- 13:44Speaker 1: out the game but obviously came into the building afterwards
- 13:48Speaker 1: was not feeling good. Nathaniel Hackett said he does believe
- 13:51Speaker 1: Simmons will be back after the mandatory four games he
- 13:54Speaker 1: has to miss, but it will be Cage Stearns taking
- 13:57Speaker 1: Simmons place for the Broncos this week against the Texas Alright,
- 14:00Speaker 1: injury duced here in two of the better safeties in
- 14:02Speaker 1: the league, Jabal Adams out for the year, where Austin Simmons.
- 14:06Speaker 1: It's a month, Thank you Tom, thank you Ian Week
- 14:10Speaker 1: number two, folks, what a week number one? It was
- 14:13Speaker 1: for Sae Kwon bark Leak and they go two and oh,
- 14:17Speaker 1: you know they haven't done that in a while. We'll
- 14:18Speaker 1: tell you the last time they did it. Coming up next,
- 14:20Speaker 1: Giants in the spotlight. NFL Now in a game day,
- 14:23Speaker 1: everybody on NFL network. One game, win or lose, does
- 14:32Speaker 1: not break a season. Okay, but you got what it
- 14:36Speaker 1: takes every day. You keep grinding every day, we keep
- 14:40Speaker 1: getting better. Okay, it was one game. It's pretty darn
- 14:43Speaker 1: good football team. Get up credit, Hey game bo Joe Dave.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Wait a Week one for the Giants. We we didn't
- 15:00Speaker 1: show you Brian Dable dancing in the locker room after
- 15:03Speaker 1: the game. Go to the Twitter find that video. Most
- 15:06Speaker 1: scrimmage yards per game in a career. Sa Kuon Barkley
- 15:11Speaker 1: is still top five, despite the fact the last couple
- 15:14Speaker 1: of years he really hasn't done much. He looked like
- 15:16Speaker 1: the old say Kuan Week number one in Nashville. G
- 15:19Speaker 1: D Batista and Mark Ross with me now from the
- 15:23Speaker 1: East coast of the Giants try to go to an
- 15:24Speaker 1: over the first time since and Judy, I'm sure they
- 15:28Speaker 1: noticed that Carolina gave up two hundred yards to the
- 15:32Speaker 1: Browns on the ground last week. I am sure that
- 15:37Speaker 1: has not escaped their attention. Andrew. This is a real
- 15:40Speaker 1: chance for Sa Kuan and the New York Giants to
- 15:42Speaker 1: lean on the running game again. Let's go back. He
- 15:45Speaker 1: had a hundred sixty four yards rushing in this season opener,
- 15:49Speaker 1: certainly the best he has looked, really since his rookie season.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I was at the Browns Panthers game, and the Panthers
- 15:55Speaker 1: had a will of a time trying to handle the
- 15:57Speaker 1: Browns rushing attack. Not surprisingly, the Browns have one of
- 16:00Speaker 1: the best running games in the league. But the Panthers
- 16:03Speaker 1: something they have been harping on all this week. They
- 16:06Speaker 1: had a lot of miss tackles eighteen by their account,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and what they have been talking about is they need
- 16:12Speaker 1: to get more guys around the ball and they need
- 16:14Speaker 1: to wrap up. And we know that is especially the
- 16:17Speaker 1: case when you're playing somebody like se Plon Barkley, because
- 16:20Speaker 1: what we saw last Sunday is not only is he
- 16:23Speaker 1: hitting the whole really quickly, but once he gets open,
- 16:27Speaker 1: he has that breakaway speed like we haven't seen in
- 16:29Speaker 1: a few years. So there's going to be a real
- 16:31Speaker 1: emphasis from the Panthers on trying to cut down on
- 16:34Speaker 1: the miss tackles and a real opportunity for the New
- 16:37Speaker 1: York Giants to keep writing that running game. Yeah, Judy,
- 16:40Speaker 1: of course, there was a big hope and dreams that
- 16:42Speaker 1: se Kwon would be the old s Quan coming into
- 16:45Speaker 1: this Giant season. All Giants fans, the whole organization, and
- 16:48Speaker 1: we're waiting for that. And you saw that, and what
- 16:50Speaker 1: you saw was kind of a vintage s Kwon Barkley
- 16:53Speaker 1: game where he may grind out a couple yards here
- 16:55Speaker 1: and there, but it's just those explosive plays. I mean,
- 16:58Speaker 1: really two huge plays in that game the other day
- 17:00Speaker 1: that kind of signified what kind of game it was
- 17:03Speaker 1: for him. And that's what didn't see over the last
- 17:06Speaker 1: couple of years, you know, hitting the whole and just
- 17:08Speaker 1: getting away from everybody quickly. That that's what you saw
- 17:11Speaker 1: with him and what and looking at the Panthers, they're
- 17:15Speaker 1: definitely looking at it and saying, Sae Kwon Barkley is
- 17:17Speaker 1: not going to beat us. We have to make Daniel
- 17:20Speaker 1: Jones beat us. And that's got to be the game
- 17:23Speaker 1: plan for them. But but going back to Sa Kuan
- 17:26Speaker 1: and what he has given and Brian Dable as well
- 17:28Speaker 1: with this Giants team. Is this the relevancy and the
- 17:31Speaker 1: confidence that we haven't seen in years. So the dynamic
- 17:34Speaker 1: dual right now of of Barkley and Dable has the
- 17:37Speaker 1: Giants fans excited right now, not only for two and
- 17:39Speaker 1: oh but you look at the schedule. They got Carolina,
- 17:41Speaker 1: Dallas and Chicago coming up fourdo there for the Giants?
- 17:45Speaker 1: Possibly Andrew and Judy? What do you think? Oh boy,
- 17:47Speaker 1: come on now, one game at a time. Mark again,
- 17:50Speaker 1: the last time the Giants made the playoffs was sixteen.
- 17:53Speaker 1: They also began that season to it. Oh, and you'd
- 17:56Speaker 1: have to think that the Giants, to use the same logic,
- 17:59Speaker 1: are going not gonna let Christian McCaffrey beat us Judy.
- 18:04Speaker 1: The Brown's bottle him up pretty well in the first half.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And yes, Baker Mayfield deserved second half credit. He made
- 18:09Speaker 1: a couple of nice throws, but really it was the
- 18:13Speaker 1: Brown's inability to tackle Christian McCaffrey in the second half
- 18:17Speaker 1: that led to their comeback. What are the Panthers saying
- 18:20Speaker 1: about him this week? Well, the Browns didn't have to
- 18:23Speaker 1: do a whole lot of bottling up of Christian McCaffrey
- 18:25Speaker 1: in the first half because his number wasn't called all
- 18:28Speaker 1: that often by the Panthers in the first half. I
- 18:30Speaker 1: was at that game, and I can tell you at
- 18:31Speaker 1: a halftime, we were sitting there in the press box
- 18:33Speaker 1: saying they never mentioned Christian McCaffrey. Considered these deaths. He
- 18:37Speaker 1: head only three rushes in the first half, only ten
- 18:41Speaker 1: rushes overall for thirty three yards. Ben McAdoo, the offensive
- 18:44Speaker 1: coordinator familiar face to New York Giants fans, was asked
- 18:48Speaker 1: about getting more opportunities for McCaffrey this week, and he said, well,
- 18:51Speaker 1: we only had fifty three total snaps last week, so
- 18:54Speaker 1: they've got to get more attempts at the plate. That's
- 18:56Speaker 1: how maculd put it. And they need to get him
- 18:59Speaker 1: going because, look, he is a critical figure. Brian day
- 19:03Speaker 1: Ball talked about it. He is dangerous, not just running,
- 19:06Speaker 1: but he's dangerous out on the perimeter. They bottled up
- 19:10Speaker 1: Derrick Henry pretty well last week for the New York Giants,
- 19:13Speaker 1: maybe better than most of us expected they could. This
- 19:15Speaker 1: is a different kind of task trying to bottle up
- 19:18Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey. But again it is on the Panthers to
- 19:21Speaker 1: call his number and get him going early. Definitely on
- 19:25Speaker 1: the Panthers, and as you mentioned on the return of
- 19:28Speaker 1: Ben McAdoo to call this up, and I know Ben's
- 19:31Speaker 1: going to be fired up and excited to show what
- 19:34Speaker 1: he's got going there with Christian McCaffrey. And you mentioned
- 19:36Speaker 1: the Giants bottled up Derrick Henry, but a completely different
- 19:39Speaker 1: runner with Christian McCaffrey. Actually the backup back there for
- 19:41Speaker 1: Tennessee was hurting the Giants coming out the backfield with
- 19:44Speaker 1: the big catches there, so you'll see a lot of that,
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm sure with McCaffrey. With Martindale, blitz is coming. Okay,
- 19:52Speaker 1: somebody's got to get open, get free, and I would
- 19:54Speaker 1: expect to see Ben Ben mcadood dial up a lot
- 19:57Speaker 1: of getting Christian McCaffrey in those blitz situations, one on
- 20:01Speaker 1: one matchups with linebackers, with safeties whoever the Giants decided
- 20:04Speaker 1: to put on him. So I would think for sure
- 20:07Speaker 1: you would have to see Christian McCaffrey a lot more.
- 20:09Speaker 1: You know, last week they got down, so I'm sure
- 20:12Speaker 1: that was part of the game plan. Well, we can't
- 20:13Speaker 1: run the ball, we can't feed McCaffrey. But now with
- 20:16Speaker 1: this game, Ben mcindoo's gotta learn that this is my guy.
- 20:19Speaker 1: This is how this offense has to run through Christian McCaffrey.
- 20:22Speaker 1: So I would expect to see a lot more of
- 20:24Speaker 1: that this week, Andrew, and knowing that he didn't practice
- 20:27Speaker 1: on Wednesday, Matt Rule says they're going to keep McCaffrey
- 20:30Speaker 1: with a lighter workload during the week and likely won't
- 20:33Speaker 1: practice him any Wednesday this year because they know he's
- 20:38Speaker 1: got to carry a lot on his shoulders come game day.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Thank you Mark, thank you Judy. It's the Panthers and
- 20:43Speaker 1: the Giants coming up Sunday in New York. Coming up
- 20:47Speaker 1: Sunday in Dallas. No Dak Prescott. It's Cooper Rush starting
- 20:51Speaker 1: at quarterback for Mike McCarthy against the Cincinnati Bengals. As
- 20:57Speaker 1: far as Cooper Rush, you know, we don't feel like
- 20:59Speaker 1: there's really any limitations on what we want to do.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I mean, he's he's just rehearsing this saw fences anybody,
- 21:05Speaker 1: you know, McCullen, um, and they go back, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 1: to prior when I got here, so um, And that's
- 21:12Speaker 1: really the way we go about it. And it's so
- 21:13Speaker 1: different with the left guard, the left tackle. You know
- 21:16Speaker 1: that that's all part of the game playing process. So,
- 21:18Speaker 1: Brian Baldinger, only one team in the NFL didn't score
- 21:21Speaker 1: a touchdown last week. It was drum Roll the Dallas Compoys.
- 21:26Speaker 1: That was with Dak Transcott at the majority of the games,
- 21:28Speaker 1: and that with Cooper Rush. What's this looking like? Well,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I think they have to figure out exactly what Ceedee
- 21:35Speaker 1: Lamb is Andrew. I mean the last two games at
- 21:37Speaker 1: home a T and T stating the playoff game against
- 21:40Speaker 1: San Francisco and then against Tampa, he's been targeting sixteen times.
- 21:44Speaker 1: He's got three catches for fifty yards. I mean, that's
- 21:47Speaker 1: not what the number one receiver does. They called his number,
- 21:50Speaker 1: they ran him in motion, they called plays for him. Um,
- 21:53Speaker 1: but he just has not been effective. And the timing
- 21:57Speaker 1: with DAC and him was not pretty. Was not good either. Uh,
- 22:00Speaker 1: there were hitches, there was he was late. Uh. It's
- 22:04Speaker 1: just not the way it has to be the precision
- 22:06Speaker 1: that you have to have with the number one receiver.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And if Trooper Rush is going to move this team
- 22:11Speaker 1: and start to score some points, you got to get
- 22:13Speaker 1: the ball to your wide receivers, and it starts with
- 22:16Speaker 1: getting the ball to Ceedee Lamb. Alright, So ceedee, lamb
- 22:19Speaker 1: has got to do a better job, and they have
- 22:21Speaker 1: all said it on the podium. He has got to
- 22:23Speaker 1: do a better job. Let's move on to the Eagles here, Baldi,
- 22:28Speaker 1: if we could. Nick Serriani is at home. It's a
- 22:31Speaker 1: Monday night game coming up here. After looking back on
- 22:34Speaker 1: week one, what do you think of Jalen Hurts his performance? Well,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I thought he would awesome, be honest with you, because
- 22:41Speaker 1: he had to be. I mean, there were so many
- 22:42Speaker 1: breakdowns up front, Andrew show you just a few where
- 22:46Speaker 1: he had to rescue the play. I mean, it's his
- 22:48Speaker 1: early first quarter here, here's eight Nutchinson. You would think
- 22:51Speaker 1: that the Eagles would block him, but there's a protection
- 22:53Speaker 1: breakdown up front. He comes free. So Jalen hasn't even
- 22:56Speaker 1: taken his second step into his drop and he's already
- 22:59Speaker 1: getting on his horsing outside the pocket. I mean, he
- 23:02Speaker 1: rescued one play after another tough out the game slid,
- 23:06Speaker 1: protect himself, got down. But it wasn't just that it
- 23:09Speaker 1: happens right here. You know, defensive tackle comes on a
- 23:12Speaker 1: loop right here, right up the middle, right down Broadway
- 23:15Speaker 1: or broad Street, Philadelphia, right at Jalen Hurts and he's
- 23:19Speaker 1: got to do what he can do just to rescue
- 23:21Speaker 1: the play. He did again ran for another first down,
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know, And so it wasn't just the breakdowns. They
- 23:27Speaker 1: had some protection issue. Ad Hutchinson here on a bull
- 23:30Speaker 1: rush against the right guard Eyes and Saya Malo, and
- 23:33Speaker 1: it just pushes the pocket too quickly and Jars just
- 23:36Speaker 1: got comfortable yet just staying there and being able to
- 23:39Speaker 1: navigate that. So, you know, he runs for sixteen yards
- 23:42Speaker 1: in the first down. Here he ran seventeen times for
- 23:45Speaker 1: ninety yards, including a touchdown run. But that's too many.
- 23:48Speaker 1: It's too many times, and a lot of those runs
- 23:51Speaker 1: he had to rescue the play. So I think Monday
- 23:54Speaker 1: night against the Vikings, it's gonna start upfront with the
- 23:57Speaker 1: Eagles protection against the Darius Smith and Daniel Hunter and
- 24:00Speaker 1: those guys to be able to hold up so that
- 24:03Speaker 1: Jailee could trust to protect and to make the throws
- 24:06Speaker 1: down the field with more players in the passing game there.
- 24:09Speaker 1: We'll say this though about that ground game. Four different
- 24:11Speaker 1: Eagles scored rushing touchdowns last week, four different guys. They
- 24:15Speaker 1: hadn't had four different guys score rushing touchdowns in one
- 24:18Speaker 1: game in sixties six zero years. Bryan Baldinger, they're more
- 24:24Speaker 1: in the Eagle says they look to go to two
- 24:25Speaker 1: another get the Vikings as part of a Monday doubleheader.
- 24:28Speaker 1: We have a Thursday night one game affair to innight.
- 24:31Speaker 1: But what a game it will be? Do you buy
- 24:33Speaker 1: the whole they're better without Tyreek kill deal? I don't.
- 24:37Speaker 1: We'll ask a chief who might have some inside of that.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Had a great chief at that Dante Hall set to
- 24:43Speaker 1: join us next. Didn't feel like Week one ended like
- 24:51Speaker 1: five minutes ago, but week two is here. It's a
- 24:55Speaker 1: big week starting with a very very very big game
- 25:01Speaker 1: Chargers Chiefs eight fifteen this evening Prime Video. Everybody interview
- 25:12Speaker 1: in partner into the insole touchdown of Welcome to the League.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Touchdown terms City Chela is an Joe Bosa, Khalil Mackin.
- 25:27Speaker 1: They shovel at s Dwards put into the end zone,
- 25:32Speaker 1: intercepted and he taste the sweet nectar of the end zone.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Chargers start the season off with a victory at the
- 25:38Speaker 1: nsas City continues, It's masterreet and we start t and
- 25:44Speaker 1: f off our coverage off with James Palmer live, Happy
- 25:47Speaker 1: game did to you? James at Arrowhead with all this talk.
- 25:50Speaker 1: After Patrick Mahomes throws three hundred and sixty yards and
- 25:54Speaker 1: five touchdowns, it looks amazing about well, maybe the Chiefs
- 25:58Speaker 1: are gonna be just fine without Tyreek Kill. What are
- 26:00Speaker 1: they saying there ahead of Week two? Yeah, that was
- 26:03Speaker 1: our big question, right Andrew? How is Patrick Mahomes gonna
- 26:06Speaker 1: handle life without Tyreek Hill? You mentioned the five touchdowns,
- 26:09Speaker 1: you mentioned the three hundred and sixty yards, how about
- 26:11Speaker 1: thirty for thirty nine for a hundred and forty four
- 26:13Speaker 1: quarterback grading and the a f C Offensive Player of
- 26:16Speaker 1: the Week. I think he's getting by just fine now.
- 26:19Speaker 1: When I spoke to the Chargers, they believe that this
- 26:21Speaker 1: is a much more physical wide receiver group than it
- 26:24Speaker 1: was a year ago with Tyree Hill. And they also
- 26:26Speaker 1: believe there is no receiver on the planet like Tyree
- 26:29Speaker 1: Hill with his speed and quickness. But they all believe
- 26:32Speaker 1: it all stems back to Patrick Mahomes and the formula
- 26:35Speaker 1: hasn't changed. When Brandon Staley, the Charger's head coach, was
- 26:38Speaker 1: asked specifically about this offense without Tyree Killing, what he saw,
- 26:41Speaker 1: he went directly to the offensive line and said, that's
- 26:44Speaker 1: what stands out to me that this offensive line is
- 26:46Speaker 1: so good. It gives Patrick Mahomes time in the ability
- 26:49Speaker 1: to be the best version of himself. He targeted ten
- 26:53Speaker 1: different players, Andrew and that allows Andy Reid to operate
- 26:56Speaker 1: this offense the way we know he loves to. So
- 26:58Speaker 1: much motion, so many different formations, getting defensive players looking
- 27:02Speaker 1: one way and the ball going the other and you
- 27:04Speaker 1: don't know where it's going to go. Now, the Chargers
- 27:07Speaker 1: believe with Derwin James can play linebacker in the slot,
- 27:10Speaker 1: deep safety, blitz player, tight end, do whatever you'd like
- 27:14Speaker 1: him to do. The Chargers believe they have the ability
- 27:16Speaker 1: to be versatile as well. So the chess match between
- 27:19Speaker 1: the Chargers defense and Brandon's Daley verse, Patrick Mahomes and
- 27:23Speaker 1: the versatility of both sides of the ball is gonna
- 27:25Speaker 1: be something we're gonna keep our eye on and quite
- 27:27Speaker 1: a challenge tonight as well. Different from last week for
- 27:31Speaker 1: the Chiefs tackles or Orlando Brown and Andrew Wiley against
- 27:35Speaker 1: Khalil Mack and Joey Boza. Much different. Great one tonight,
- 27:38Speaker 1: Thank James Palmer. Live at Arrowhead. It's an eight fifteen
- 27:42Speaker 1: Eastern time kickoff seven fifteen if you're local there in
- 27:45Speaker 1: Kansas City, and it is streaming on Prime Video tonight.
- 27:49Speaker 1: It is the start of a new era TAF on
- 27:51Speaker 1: Prime Video. Go find it. It's gonna be amazing. Eight
- 27:56Speaker 1: fifteen coming up tonight. A little more perspective on that one.
- 28:02Speaker 1: He is a chief's legend. He was kind enough to
- 28:03Speaker 1: pull off the road here and joins as he has
- 28:06Speaker 1: on game days past. We used to call him the
- 28:09Speaker 1: human joystick. Kids don't play necessarily the same kind of
- 28:13Speaker 1: video games these days, but it's great to see it regardless.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Dante Hall, what's going on. Good to see you too, Andrew.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Sorry for the backdrop, but I didn't want to disappoint
- 28:24Speaker 1: you and be late. So yeah, no, I'm in my
- 28:26Speaker 1: rental car. I think as long as you are pulled
- 28:30Speaker 1: off and you're not doing this while driving and everyone
- 28:32Speaker 1: is safe, we appreciate you. Dante Um jump in on
- 28:35Speaker 1: that conversation we're just having here about about Patrick Mahomes
- 28:39Speaker 1: and the way this offense looks. There was legitimate concern.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I don't know if it was just offseason noise or not.
- 28:45Speaker 1: We have a lot of time to fill about how
- 28:47Speaker 1: this offense would survive without Tyreek kill. What did you
- 28:50Speaker 1: see last week Um, I saw exactly what I saw
- 28:55Speaker 1: in preseason and then also saw you know something, I've
- 28:59Speaker 1: seen this before. You remember the New England Patriots when
- 29:02Speaker 1: they had Randy Moss and they had that dot now
- 29:05Speaker 1: and make offense in two thousand seven when they almost
- 29:08Speaker 1: went undefeated, and then after that they went to a
- 29:11Speaker 1: two tight end set with Aaron and Nandez Gronkowski and
- 29:15Speaker 1: West Walker in the middle. So I figured that would
- 29:19Speaker 1: be exactly what the Chiefs will look like. And they
- 29:21Speaker 1: looked that way in the preseason, and they looked exactly
- 29:23Speaker 1: that way. And Week one, I think with the departure
- 29:27Speaker 1: of Tarik Patrick, Mahomes was going to be forced to
- 29:30Speaker 1: mature as a quarterback UM, and we saw that come
- 29:33Speaker 1: to forests. And then in Week one, why haven't people
- 29:37Speaker 1: learned that you don't win by blitzing Mahomes? Dante Fan
- 29:42Speaker 1: Joseph brought it fifty four percent of the time last
- 29:46Speaker 1: week and you saw what happened. Well, that's what Van
- 29:49Speaker 1: Joseph does. And these coordinators where there's offensively defensively, they
- 29:52Speaker 1: do what they do and h Van Joseph likes to
- 29:55Speaker 1: bring pressure and they're gonna stick to the script. But
- 29:57Speaker 1: I really don't think if you sit back in his zone,
- 30:00Speaker 1: he'll pick your part in zone. Also, So, um, is
- 30:04Speaker 1: this a tough, tough off matched up? Anytime you play
- 30:06Speaker 1: the Chiefs and Patrick come home, you got Travis Kelsey
- 30:09Speaker 1: And I don't think Andy Reid and the enemy get
- 30:11Speaker 1: enough credit. Andy Reid has been doing this for years, decades.
- 30:15Speaker 1: His officers are always top not So. Yes, Patrick Mahome
- 30:19Speaker 1: is great. He's my friend quarterback. I think he's the
- 30:22Speaker 1: best in the league. But I think we should start
- 30:24Speaker 1: giving props to and Reid and his office structure and
- 30:27Speaker 1: the way he designs plays and gets guys why. He
- 30:30Speaker 1: certainly deserves credit. But let's go back. What do you
- 30:33Speaker 1: do if you're not gonna blitz, you say he's gonna
- 30:35Speaker 1: pick you apart. That's what Brandon Staley's defense generally is, right,
- 30:39Speaker 1: it's you gotta dink conduct. We need you to prove
- 30:42Speaker 1: to us that you can be patient to beat us
- 30:46Speaker 1: exactly by going six, seven, eight yards at a time
- 30:49Speaker 1: down the field, not twenty five yards down the field exactly.
- 30:53Speaker 1: And then so the key is with that type of
- 30:55Speaker 1: defense is you must in the red zone hold the
- 30:58Speaker 1: Chiefs to field goal. Yes, give him the five tenure completions,
- 31:02Speaker 1: let him methodically worked down the field. But then you
- 31:05Speaker 1: have to, you know, be extern in the zone. And
- 31:07Speaker 1: I think that's the way, that's the formula and the
- 31:09Speaker 1: only way to beat the Chiefs and stop his offense. Dante,
- 31:13Speaker 1: what's up with the shirt here? What does Baron met? Arrowhead?
- 31:19Speaker 1: And I will cheer from the grave. I'm not hard baby, Hey,
- 31:27Speaker 1: I mean, let's hope that's still a few years away. Okay,
- 31:32Speaker 1: Sir Duyanne Bow is going to be their bang of
- 31:35Speaker 1: the drum tonight at Arrowhead. Dante Hall is here with us,
- 31:37Speaker 1: another former Chief wide receiver, two time Pro Bowl remember
- 31:40Speaker 1: the old decade team as an amazing like don't step
- 31:44Speaker 1: away from the TV return man, Dante is great to
- 31:47Speaker 1: have you on on a game day. Enjoy tonight, will
- 31:49Speaker 1: you thank you? Great to be on. NFL Now is
