- 0:00The following programs produced the Tech Talk Radio Network. We've had some guests over
- 0:05the years that have returned to the show because they offer a product to you,
- 0:10the listener, the consumer that can benefit them. Great and radio show,
- 0:18the folks standing by with on the line, how you doing today?
- 0:25Of course with you coming to your house Sean just read no you're not,
- 0:32that's Pokemon cost go ahead, badgets beyond all the anti you have great content
- 0:42theme well, and yours is is yours is a product and and service that
- 0:47a lot of our listeners have no idea how uh you know where are Unfortunately,
- 0:54sometimes until and that's happens going on? They happen put on there a
- 1:00flood or a fire or something devastating that happens where years it could be long
- 1:10digitized the Halloween you know, candy giving again they have in the past.
- 1:14I mean I remember I remember growing up single house in my neighborhood where I
- 1:19lived in Orange County. Every house gave your way. It was very rare
- 1:23for you to find a house that had the lights off unless you went out
- 1:26super late. I remember we would go out starting at six and we wouldn't
- 1:30be done until eight. And I had like a pillowcase full of candy.
- 1:33Oh yeah, we always had I mean grew up in there, like in
- 1:42the city and need the beach. It was, you know, I mean
- 1:45a suburb but of Orange County, but I mean it was the neighborhood community.
- 1:51We specifically go into town. Actually years remember the oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:59you came in that care they would be you'd put them in the carousel
- 2:00and you would sit and watch them projected onto a curtain. Yes, wow,
- 2:07that's right. I grew up on. You know, when you did
- 2:08go trigger treating, there was always those neighbors that that kind of stood out
- 2:14there. Used to be a dentist, but you would go to his house
- 2:16and he would give you toothpaste and toothbrushes because he was the dentist. But
- 2:22you know what, ye yeah, we'd still go. I knew I was
- 2:27going to get I would still go because it was like, cool, I'm
- 2:30getting something cool for this guy's house. You know. That was kind of
- 2:34the cool thing. As a parent, I always loved taking the kids around
- 2:38and there were I remember one year somebody on the street. I guess for
- 2:43a year they've been colecting on the ao L one point four four floppies,
- 2:46you know, the install definitely as they were more than I should do exactly.
- 2:54I'm sure your listeners, I'm gonna I'm gonna show this if you can
- 2:59recognize that and tell everybody what it is. Okay, okay you lower decks
- 3:08that no, well no that lower decks discovery uh start trow discovery shut.
- 3:14Basically while you you are, hadn't someone gave that to me, and that's
- 3:20been my folloween costome with the really yeah, because I'm too cheap to dress
- 3:24up? Where will you? What was the best Halloween custom were profile?
- 3:30What would it? Because when I was a kid, my great grandparents mentioned
- 3:35with the face masks and everything. I think I remember Casper. I think
- 3:39one that Casper the friendly girls right just help Me, which was good,
- 3:46and my favorite that goes street opening comments about people to wait and as happened.
- 3:57That was good everything. And there's some other ones they dressed up like
- 4:01the really happened like he was I was holding my head. Oh they were
- 4:08great. Yeah, Oh I like that. I just up as several of
- 4:13them. If our listeners want to check out the article, I remember Michael,
- 4:15like my mom and dad had find that there's a link on the Weren't
- 4:19page of our website. It's about his experience of having starline just about ser
- 4:27they didn't have what then be done. I think most people they did it
- 4:31was super easy. Vader man a lot of that work because there are people
- 4:36that will see it was enormous scanner, right, I mean, honestly,
- 4:41it looked like the printer guy they start doing this. That was a lot
- 4:46more that I always had fun with that time of the year, and I
- 4:48feel bad for kids now because again just not too many homes to it.
- 4:53We have a house across the streets for the past first probably for six years,
- 4:59which I had been doing his front yard, and he would start in
- 5:02September and he'd have brilliant displays and you know, light the street would fill
- 5:10on the folloween and kids would line up into this guy's hunted house the first
- 5:15year not doing it. That's what I don't even know if we're going to
- 5:18get kids this year, they're going to come up and down the street.
- 5:21I still set a table out when I usually sit outside, just you know,
- 5:26as the kids come by. But also here's the problem, everybody,
- 5:30I started doing some brains, here's what I think we should do. Is
- 5:32tech talk. Okay, all right, we give away floppy disks which for
- 5:40any reason, yeah day, and it's uploaded to your in box and load
- 5:47them up the same way so somebody is able to get you the photos.
- 5:54Suddenly. Remember we've got a memorial service. We want to have you presentation
- 5:59that is in the background while we're you know, being prepared for speeches and
- 6:03you know eulogies. Uh, this could be running on the back. They
- 6:08can get that to you in the morning that day. The strange USB drive
- 6:15in your computers and you're going to give kids USB dru I would give away
- 6:20everyone else discovered to see how many actually follow through and put something into their
- 6:28computer. Actually that would be from us. Don't prout know what happened?
- 6:35I don't know. You've got to be really these days, John Doll.
- 6:40You never never and you know now you know you speak as a parent.
- 6:44You'd have to check the kids candy when you always union did that. My
- 6:46parents should check are candy and I would check my kids candy. But you
- 6:51also have to check now things like this. If your kid gets a US
- 6:56big drive, don't you have the discussion with them memories not to put the
- 6:59memory will being able to see them again. Be careful for the entire family.
- 7:01Never used to be, you know, sitting down with you know,
- 7:04the grandparents, because I remember Sue with my grandma the Techti Grandma Francis and
- 7:09Apples photo Android. She would show me the pictures having their house in Burma,
- 7:14and they've kind of ball that went, like, you know, if
- 7:16you want to be able to thinking these photos, here's the deal. Be
- 7:20a little. Over the years, if you're in the Android world inside shape
- 7:26and it used to be you can have a photo on the side of stamp
- 7:30and they have been older people have found other than worrying about being used the
- 7:39wrong way like when you used to post right way your life easier to see,
- 7:44has actually worked out quite well. So Samsung has the smart tag devices
- 7:48and it looks like we're going to see other alternatives now with the Android platform
- 7:56for tracking. Tring into that and looking at what Apple is doing. There
- 8:00is an event that is going to be happening on Monday this coming Monday that
- 8:05our listeners may want to check out. It's called Scary Fast and Apple announced
- 8:11this uh this week, giving you really a week just to get ready for
- 8:16this event. On Monday, that's going to be happening at five pm Pacific
- 8:20time, so you think about it for the East coast, that's they're going
- 8:22to be watching it eighth. But this online event their second event that they're
- 8:28doing for the fall. A lot of people are thinking they're going to be
- 8:31unveiling the new Man and somebody may be listening right now, have has a
- 8:41look attack it. That's a procrastination. They get it to you, all
- 8:46right, Uh what what is this process for for getting them to you?
- 8:50Number one and getting them back? Which the easiest for the design for photos
- 9:00about here picture because little was like two hundred and twenty dollars, but I
- 9:03think he would even everything scan. She's next to all of that are designed
- 9:07to car bundle it. He'll give that. He's even piles stacks but going
- 9:13in about one hundred and so using putting a file right down, coating it
- 9:18but in the birthday anniversary specially and just put a rubber band around those you
- 9:24know, going back in thousand were messages on it. We could even scan
- 9:31that we were having still messages and before you get it back, and really
- 9:37cool thing because we get everything back. Big people uploaded services like Google Jumping
- 9:46and had on your phone. Now so you see, so you see the
- 9:50benefits and Premiere or are you see the benefits in you know, our final
- 9:54but I mean you would basically with that, you're going to see the benefits
- 9:58in any kind of graph or audio editing program or pretty much anything word everything
- 10:03Everything was snapped, I mean just just transcoding, you process. If you
- 10:09click on a picture of Transcot will find similar just ba the challenge through them.
- 10:22It's so funny because you know, I've been a long time user of
- 10:26on the on the the window side of a Premiere pro and now I remember,
- 10:31I know somebody I don't have Mac. You're not sitting there at a
- 10:35machine lifting the cover of a photo down, and that's not how you operate,
- 10:41like you said, thirty years and a final Uh, this is amazing
- 10:46because you have I was afraid of a little timid about machinery and to get
- 10:52this done to give you the best similar to Premiere and or or those in
- 10:56the Mac world might say that Premiere is so much similar a final cut,
- 11:01but as far as the layout and how you do that. But even then,
- 11:05you took a file on your in your Windows platform, and I took
- 11:09a file on the Apple platform and you went to render. For the listeners
- 11:13who don't know what that means, it means you're taking all of these cut
- 11:16images, audio video, et cetera, fade results, and then you're bining
- 11:22it down. You're mixing it down to that one final that final cut,
- 11:26right, you do that on the max still apperformed the PC and again I
- 11:33love Adobe and I still use Premiere Pro. But with final Cut, it
- 11:37really did perform well and I can imagine is pretty amazing. I love it.
- 11:41And this article from AP also is great. And once again you can
- 11:45find that at tech talk radio dot com. If our listeners want to find
- 11:48out more mitch about the service, what's the best thing for them to do,
- 11:54just go to the Apple a message about the Associated Press article uh and
- 12:03the support reporters. All five people filled the industry meeting in the TV World
- 12:11Industry reading photos for recording. Importantly, right afterwards you couldn't needively shoot that
- 12:18everyone lot and important final key Premiere said twenty but that supports handle just scan
- 12:28my photos. Um. Everyone here is just so they supported that, they
- 12:33support that native. I know that having you know, one stop shop for
- 12:39for doing this, whether it be small photos, large photos. You do
- 12:43it all. I do know that there are listeners, and I've had listeners
- 12:46have asked you in the past that have been very happy with your service.
- 12:50But one where they're super heads or even let's go back even further before super
- 12:56believe or not, they were shooting at sixteen millimeters? Is that something that
- 13:01you are before are doing or something that you kind of looked at We don't
- 13:05want well on the website, all the difference to use progress for eight millimeters,
- 13:11That's what That's what were really there. Phnology the one of this we
- 13:16don't switch and it's we're not all this money hardware progress. So what that
- 13:26means is you can watch you support a cop that pause it. How do
- 13:31you feel okay with with Apple doing this big event that's coming up, which
- 13:35again it's not gonna be nobody's going to be attending this thing to be able
- 13:37to watch it online? If it is the M and I mean these are
- 13:43performance boosted like we saw the M two o versus the M one, I
- 13:48mean, and that was pretty much a big jump. Could the threes be
- 13:50even more of a have y? How those memory the inclements? Well,
- 14:01we've and we've exactly. You know people that have downsized, especially here in
- 14:05Green Valley, they're downsize and maybe move into develop you know, uh uh,
- 14:11whether it be assisted living or living independently. But they don't have as
- 14:16much space. Maybe they had so they put stuff in storage for photos.
- 14:20This could actually not be a good thing. But this is the expect to
- 14:24a new generationship beyond it seems like them twos have not been around that long
- 14:30enough for people to save up their pennies and be able to go out and
- 14:33afford to buy one. But I mean, is their development process? People
- 14:37every expect year to year fire development returns, like uh, their damage that
- 14:46all this money and you your listeners are really also I kind of want to
- 14:52important. I don't. I don't see how they're developed. Take kicking by.
- 14:58I kind of wonder, uh, Sean, It's like we've heard me
- 15:03talk about Intel and you know with their processors, their new their new processor
- 15:07being able to hit you know, six giga hurts steady. You know,
- 15:13I just watched the Gamer next to many videos keep the series right. We've
- 15:18heard from people who had digitize every day all the photos as well as they're
- 15:26basically saying we did now we have a backup service as well, but work
- 15:33people because it's going to be really expensive. I bought the thirteen night everything,
- 15:37and I got to say it. I love that. The door photos,
- 15:43that's always great que and you know, if you're looking for the gift,
- 15:46it was the holidays and I love the great somebody pretty able to take
- 15:50seven? Those been really film a presentation. That's why I'm thinking, where
- 15:54where will the well? Where this fourteen go? Is it just another way
- 15:58to keep the sale is going the momentum. Here's the motherboard that, here's
- 16:03video card. You know, here's all of these things, all that up
- 16:07to create the PC. You know, when will you say what if God
- 16:11is great? This will ask me for about five or six years before its
- 16:15time to update and all your relatives. Yeah, I mean because you need
- 16:21to like the video production, right, yeah, yeah, okay, all
- 16:25right card because you know I'm imagining with Apple. I mean, we're heading
- 16:27for holidays. That's a great idea. I love it. Well, let's
- 16:30get mitcha. It's great to talk to you again. We look for talking
- 16:33to you again into the new year, and have a wonderful holiday, and
- 16:37then thanks so much for for what you you do as it's an amazing police
- 16:41SpaceX. I will be people would say, you know what, I think
- 16:52I'll pass on that one. I don't think they'll they'll want to have a
- 16:57chip embedded in their SYS to to say. I think I think a lot
- 17:03of people would go for it. I think I think in this day and
- 17:07age, we're already in dystopian society. Why not make some money and risk
- 17:14it. Right, if it fries your brain, it's over. But if
- 17:17it, if it works, it's gonna be sweet, and you're gonna be
- 17:19there and you're gonna be one of them. I don't think that. I
- 17:22don't know. Yeah, Yeah, you're gonna have people on both sides.
- 17:27You're gonna have the people that are not gonna touch it with you know,
- 17:32from orbit. You're gonna have people that are jumping on every opportunity to advance
- 17:37themselves bionically, right. It's just it's just the way humans are. You're
- 17:41gonna have one side that wants to push the envelope and you're gonna have the
- 17:45other one that says, no, I'm good back here, back in the
- 17:48forties or whatever. Yeah, well, I know more and more people now
- 17:52are are delving into that AI world. We've talked about that before a lot,
- 17:59you know, even even and Sean over there has been playing around with
- 18:02the graphics. Did you do when you did your graphics? Did you use
- 18:06a open AI to do that? I did, Dolly two point zero,
- 18:10okay because now which it worked out, okay, But I did just read
- 18:15an article that there is a new tool that can put corrupt data into images
- 18:25so that when AI reads it, it doesn't know how to properly interpret it
- 18:29and it will give you bad images. Oh wow, really, so you
- 18:33can upload your images with a basically I'm assuming it's some sort of digital watermark,
- 18:40right, yeah, that when it's scanned by AI, AI doesn't know
- 18:44how to decrypt those bits, so it can't learn from your images. Oh
- 18:51that's interesting. I don't know. You know, now if you go to
- 18:53open dot AI, I know that you will get a prompt for actually creating.
- 18:59And so now their focus seems to be less on the textual type of
- 19:04imaging and now it's more the graphical and I don't know, I've been pretty
- 19:11pretty pleased with the results, and more and more people now are trying it
- 19:15and finding it to be normal. But I think what some of these companies
- 19:18are doing is they're saying, come try this, Come try this, get
- 19:22used to it. Now, let's charge you. I mean we saw that
- 19:26with the models of Chad GPT, where you had a model that's free and
- 19:30some people are still using that, and then you have a paid version.
- 19:33People, as Slick and I were talking before the show, people are putting
- 19:37it now on their resumes saying that you know, I can do this,
- 19:41I know how to work the AI because that's becoming what companies want to have.
- 19:47They want somebody, do you understand it? Can you run this?
- 19:49If I give you a paper? Can you create something with this little game
- 19:52for everybody to play at home? Guess which one of us three has it
- 19:55on their resume? All right, we gotta take a break. We got
- 20:03we get some great guests lined up. We're gonna talk with our good buddy
- 20:06Mitch Goldstone from scam My Photos. If you're looking for a perfect gift for
- 20:10the holidays or you want to preserve those images. Mitch is always great on
- 20:14the show, and he's gonna tell you about what they're doing and how they
- 20:17can make it super fast to get your photos and your film digitized to preserve
- 20:23it and keep it safe. We're also gonna be talking about your antenna and
- 20:29a DVR. You want to be able to record off air television, not
- 20:33not with over the air television, not with maybe a VHS cassette, but
- 20:40digitally and then be able to watch it anywhere. Tableau TV is the company
- 20:44that does that. We're gonna be talking to you want it already, We're
- 20:48gonna be talking with the CEO of the company of Tableau TV. That's all
- 20:52gonna be coming up with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean
- 20:56Weird and and you can find us on the world Wide Web, but tech
- 21:00talk radio dot com. Also be sure to check out our blog. You
- 21:03can see the video that Shonda Weird did last week regarding I Fix It.
- 21:07If you've ever wanted to take on a project and fix it yourself when it
- 21:11comes to technology, the company to look at and you can see how easy
- 21:15it was with the company I fix It replacing a battery. And again that's
- 21:18on blog the tech talk radio dot Com. We'll be right back and now
- 21:23back to tech talk Radio. You know, sometimes I catch the old person
- 21:29in me saying, these kids have no idea how easy it is today,
- 21:33because I mean I used to love watching shows like Starsky and Hunch and Adam
- 21:37twelve at Emergency. And the thing is, if I watched them on TV
- 21:41and maybe I missed the ending, that's it. I was done. Unless
- 21:45they played in reruns, I couldn't go back and see what happened. Well,
- 21:48what's really cool about that is we've seen technology kind of change now over
- 21:53the years, and now DVRs they're commonplace. But the thing is, what
- 21:57if you want to be a cord cutter, but you still want to have
- 22:00that capability to maybe watch your favorite show at another time? There are some
- 22:04great choices of programming and you may say, well tonight I want to watch
- 22:08this and maybe I want to record this. Well, the old days of
- 22:14the VCRs they're gone, but even then they made it difficult to be able
- 22:18to record one, watch another and do all that. Well, there was
- 22:21a company called Nouvio that is the maker of Tableau TV and you may have
- 22:25seen their social Their marketing department has been doing great because you see them all
- 22:29over social media, but really, what is it all about? And we
- 22:33decided let's get them on the show. And Grant Hall is the CEO for
- 22:37Tableau TV Neuvio and it's with us on the line. Great to talk to
- 22:41you, sir, Yeah, great to talk to you. Thanks for having
- 22:44me on the show. Well tell us, you know, we're talking about
- 22:45a product that was introduced back or at least the concept back in twenty ten.
- 22:52How long is it obviously thirteen years now, but how has that development
- 22:56stage happened and what was the original idea for this? Well, core cutting
- 23:00was the original idea. And you know, one thing that you know happened
- 23:04just before twenty ten was the US changed to a digital you know, over
- 23:10the air transmission standard. So most people out there don't realize that, you
- 23:15know, with a simple antenna, but the size of a piece of paper,
- 23:18you know, on your window, you can get stations in better quality
- 23:22than a cable and satellite. They're all digital. They're all you know,
- 23:26high def. They look gorgeous. So what we want to do is enable
- 23:30people to enjoy that content. And the best part of it is it's free.
- 23:33You know, you don't pay for it. So we we build a
- 23:37device that you just connect this little antenna too. You put it up in
- 23:41your window and then it connects into your Roku, your Apple TV, your
- 23:48your Android TV, whatever device you know, mobile phone, tablet you're using
- 23:52to watch TV on, and it gives you access to all that over the
- 23:56air content and gorgeous high death. Well that's I think that's what surprised a
- 24:00lot of people because I think we've thought of this traditionally in the past.
- 24:04As you know, with an antenna, you're tied to that television. If
- 24:08you were at work it suddenly wanted to see something, nop, you had
- 24:11to have an antenna on your TV at work. If you had something like
- 24:15this. With this, once it's recorded, you have that access to be
- 24:18able to stream it to whatever device that you're watching it on with the with
- 24:23the Roku or et cetera, and watch it anywhere. Yeah. Absolutely,
- 24:27and with live TV as well. It's not just recorded TV, so and
- 24:32it's every device and multiple devices at the home at the same time. So
- 24:36somebody in the bedroom, living room, kitchen can all be watching different shows
- 24:40or recordings and enjoying that content on whatever device they want to. So that's
- 24:45the nature, and it allows you to put the device, you know where
- 24:48the antenna is the best place to be, you know, which is typically
- 24:52a pie you know, it's not next to your TV and maybe in a
- 24:55bedroom. It maybe in a window facing the towers at the top of your
- 25:00house, so you can put the antenna where you get the best reception.
- 25:03Just connecting the device and we connect wirelessly into your home network and then the
- 25:07magic happens. Now we have told listeners in the past that have wanted to
- 25:12connect to some of our local channels that there's antenna TV that gives you the
- 25:17ability to be able to look and see what is the closest towers, which
- 25:22direction you want to point them to. Do you use that same type of
- 25:23resource? Yeah. Absolutely. If you go to our website tableautv dot com,
- 25:29it has resources exactly like that. You can put in your zip code.
- 25:33It'll tell you exactly where the towers are, what kind of channels you
- 25:36should expect to get. You know, it's a great resource to go to
- 25:40first to see is this going to work for me where I live? You
- 25:44know, Grant, I know that yourself and a lot of your staff have
- 25:47done trade shows and showing the actual product and how it works. What it
- 25:52seems to be the biggest surprise that people have when they see Tableau TV.
- 25:56I think the big surprise is one equality, right, you know, for
- 26:00us, so they're a bit older. We kind of remember the old days
- 26:03of antenna's where you know, ghosty picture you had to move the antenna around,
- 26:06dance on one foot to get it. This is all digital. It's
- 26:08it's better quality and cable and satellite, you know, the breadth of the
- 26:14content. All your major you know, stations are typically available in your in
- 26:17your location, know, ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS. And then
- 26:22one of the innovations with this new law launch or the latest product is we're
- 26:26adding a bunch of channels that come over the internet. So we call those
- 26:30fast channels free ad supported TV. So we have about sixty channels today,
- 26:34we'll have about one hundred by the end of the year. And that together
- 26:38with the over the air content gives you just you know, pretty much whatever
- 26:42you'd want. And both those fast channels to come over the internet and the
- 26:48OTA channels can be recorded and time shifted and plane back, you know,
- 26:52whenever you want to enjoy them. And that's pretty much revolutionary. Well,
- 26:56yeah, the other fact grant has got to be to the ease of use.
- 27:00Let's face it, some people have been a little timid about number one
- 27:03setting up antenna because they're thinking it's going to be too difficult, and especially
- 27:07if you start telling them DVR. I mean, I remember on Parents,
- 27:11they didn't even want to do the VHS Betamax whole thing because my dad just
- 27:15thought it was going to be too difficult. But with this, you have
- 27:18the ability to set this up very easily, and most most of us are
- 27:22using smartphones so that we can or even smart TVs that we can watch this
- 27:26content in a different room. If we recorded on the system that's in the
- 27:32living room, we can go to our room where maybe we didn't have that
- 27:34same kind of reception. Let's face it, it works that way. You're
- 27:37going to be able to see it there. Yeah. Absolutely, it streams
- 27:41to every TV in the house, you know, a fantastic quality. You
- 27:45know. One of the things we've really focused on with this new release is
- 27:48a whole new user experience. So the interface is gorgeous. You know,
- 27:55it's kind of better than Netflix or competitors. We think. We have a
- 27:57homepage, services, tons of content that's currently playing or that you may want
- 28:03to record. You can look through different genres. You know, we have
- 28:07a traditional grid guide. If that's what you want to look at, just
- 28:08what's on right now. So we prought tons of tools really to allow you
- 28:14to find that content is just new content and then instantly one click recorded or
- 28:18watch it. Well, Grant, one of the things about cork cutting is
- 28:22you're trying to eliminate costs. The cost of cable. Let's face it has
- 28:26gone up quite a bit, quite dramatically, but a lot of us will
- 28:30keep the Internet. We have that so we can use some of those streamek
- 28:33services that are out there, whether it be Netflix, Hulu or some of
- 28:36those Crackle, et cetera shows like that. But the fact is is that
- 28:41that we want to get away from subscriptions. How is the cost model on
- 28:45Tableau TV? Is it you buy it? Is there a subscription? How
- 28:48does that work? There's absolutely no subscription. So you buy the product,
- 28:53you know from then that's the only expense you have. You've set it up.
- 28:57It's going to use some bandwidth over the internet to get those internet based
- 29:00fast channels. But all the OTA channels come in, you know, gorgeous,
- 29:04you know, high def, great quality surround sound, you know,
- 29:08absolutely for free. Now is it recording on the in the cloud or is
- 29:11it recording on SD type devices inside the tables, some solid state storage in
- 29:17it, so it has enough to do about you know, fifty hours of
- 29:21high DEF you know, but you can also plug in like a simple USB
- 29:25hard drive you know, that you can buy for like fifty bucks with two
- 29:27terabytes and that will give you, you know, hundreds of hours of recording
- 29:33capability. So so either way, you know, lots of storage available now.
- 29:37One of the things I know about this grant is that it has the
- 29:41ats C one tuners in it. As ATSC three continues to evolve, is
- 29:45this something that we all see and maybe future Tableau TV models, Yeah,
- 29:51we're looking at that in new models. Unfortunately, the technology today is not
- 29:55completely backward compatible. But ATC one is going to be around, you know,
- 30:00at least five years. You know, lots of people say probably ten
- 30:03years. So the current you know, TV is not going away. It's
- 30:07going to be around with us for a long long time. So if you're
- 30:11worried about making the investment, you don't really need to worry about it.
- 30:14ATSC three is just in the very early stages of launch. You know,
- 30:18it still covers I think they're saying now, but seventy percent of households in
- 30:22the US, but it largely duplicates the content you have on ATC one exactly,
- 30:26So exactly you're not missing anything at this point in time. But yes,
- 30:30we're also looking at, you know, incorporating the lace technologies and future
- 30:34products well of course, and plus that you've added this new kind of service
- 30:40where people can actually get some of these shows that are available online all within
- 30:42that one so it's not like having to go back and forth. This can
- 30:47be their main unit that they watch their content on. Yeah. Absolutely,
- 30:51I mean, a channel is a channel within kind of our user interface.
- 30:55So whether it's coming over the air through an antenna or whether it's coming over
- 30:59the internet, you don't know, it looks identical to you. You record
- 31:03it, you watch it the same way. It just means you've got suddenly,
- 31:06you know, one hundred channels where you know, essentially for free,
- 31:10no subscription. Yeah, plus do you get the local channels And that's you
- 31:14know, that's what's important to a lot of people. There are some services
- 31:17out there that people pay for they don't get access to CBS, NBC or
- 31:22ABC locally, and thus they're missing out on news. Yeah, absolutely,
- 31:26I think you know, that we hear that from all of our customers,
- 31:30right, you know, having that connection to their local community to see the
- 31:33local news and you know, more importantly the sports, you know, is
- 31:37critically important. So that's why we think combining the over the air experience with
- 31:41you know, the internet, that the experience is really the best way to
- 31:45do things. Now, go online to the website and take a look at
- 31:49Tableau TV. Now, is there a couple of different packages, like if
- 31:53I want to get maybe I've got an intenta, maybe I'm old school and
- 31:57got it off the roof, or you know, I want to go get
- 32:00one of those new flat antennas that you know work pretty good, or do
- 32:04you is there a bundle with an antenna in it? Yeah, there are
- 32:07both products. So if you go to our website or Amazon dot com,
- 32:09you'll see that there's an unbundled product which is just a product, and you
- 32:15know, you buy your own antenna. Again, it has flash storage on
- 32:19board, so there's no need to buy a hard drive unless you really want
- 32:22to have a lot of storage. You just plug it in, you know,
- 32:25pull up them obile app, set it up. It's very easy and
- 32:29quick to do. But we also have a bundle that includes a flat antenna,
- 32:32you know, with a really good quality coax so that you know,
- 32:37if you're in a metropolitan area where you're resentably close to the stations, that's
- 32:40going to give you a great experience. Exactly. Now for setting it up,
- 32:45it's a piece of cake to go through. People can go online,
- 32:49they can see the step by steps. They get that with the with the
- 32:51product that they buy, and then of course the DVR features. What are
- 32:55some of the different we get some our TVs. What are some of the
- 32:59other devices they'd be able to stream to? Well, right now, we're
- 33:02supporting Android you know TV ecosystem that includes Google and you know in video Shield
- 33:10those products. We support the Amazon Fire TV ecosystem. We support Roku very
- 33:19surely. We'll have an Apple TV app, we have an iPhone mobile app,
- 33:22we have an iPad app, and we have an Android phone and tablet
- 33:27app, and we'll surely be releasing some more smart TV apps. You know.
- 33:31Right now we supports Roku smart TVs, Android smart TVs like Sony's and
- 33:37we'll expand that over the next you know, six months or so. Now,
- 33:39Grant you mentioned it. You know, I remember the old days I
- 33:43was the remote control. Dad would say, get up, Jade the channel.
- 33:45You only had a few choices, and then if the picture quality wasn't
- 33:49that great with the antenna, I am the one who had to hold it,
- 33:52and sometimes all of a sudden the picture would be good as soon as
- 33:53I touch the antenna. Just stay there. I want to watch this show.
- 34:00Yes, you know, it brings back some good memories. But the
- 34:02quality of the picture that you get now is pretty amazing. Like you said,
- 34:07high definition. Some people don't have no idea that TV stations actually put
- 34:12up this content with the best picture quality, and sometimes when they switch back
- 34:15to antenna, they're pretty amazed with what they get. Absolutely. I mean
- 34:20the cable stations, you know, in satellite need to fit a lot of
- 34:23stations into a small space, so they tend to compress them, which can
- 34:28compromise the image quality. We're over the air, you don't have that problem
- 34:31as much, so you can use you know, much more spectrum, higher
- 34:36bit rates. You can get a much better you know, experience and a
- 34:39much better picture. Well, you've come a long way, and again Nuvio
- 34:43has got a great product with the Tableau TV. Again, I'm helping our
- 34:45listeners check it out. All they need to do they can go to Amazon,
- 34:49they can find more info there, but of course Tableau TV they can
- 34:52get all that info right there on the website. Grant, I want to
- 34:54thank you so much for taking the time and talking to us about Tableau TV.
- 34:58It's been my pleasure. Thanks. We'll be back with more of tech
- 35:00talk Radio. Now back to tech talk Radio. We've had some guests over
- 35:07the years that have returned to the show because they offer a product to you,
- 35:13the listener, the consumer that can benefit them greatly. And one of
- 35:16those that I am always proud to have on the show is the folks that
- 35:22scan my photos. Mitch Goldstone, who is standing by with us on the
- 35:25line. Mitch, how you doing today, Andy, Great to be with
- 35:29you again. Congratulations and everything with tech talk Radio. I just read your
- 35:35blog. I think it was like from last month about safeguarding your gadgets beyond
- 35:38all like the anti virus software. You always have such great content that you
- 35:43know we all learn from, so thank you well. And yours is Yours
- 35:46is a product and service that a lot of our listeners have no idea how
- 35:52invaluable you you are to them. Unfortunately, sometimes until an accident happens,
- 36:00and they do happen, whether it be you know, a flood or a
- 36:05fire or something devastating that happens where all those images over the years captured could
- 36:10be lost if they haven't been digitized. Indeed, you know, and you
- 36:15have a really interesting story and updates since we last spoke. It's been in
- 36:22business over thirty years, but nothing has ever happened like this, And I
- 36:27don't know for any other tech companies if there it's more aspirational. The Associated
- 36:31Press did a feature profile. It was picked up in five hundred media outlets
- 36:37about exactly this topic, about their urgency of protecting and digitizing your photos,
- 36:44slides, home movies, and it was it was so emotional, but it
- 36:47was it was kind of frustrating to the tech reporter for AP was procrastinating.
- 36:55It was actually years he had all of his dad's remember the thirty five slides.
- 37:00Oh yeah, yeah, they came in that care. They would be
- 37:02you'd put them in the carousel and you would sit and watch them projected onto
- 37:06a curtains. That's right. We actually updated a service we have just for
- 37:13slide carousels. It's fifty nine dollars for the entire slide carousel, and people
- 37:17have dozens, but with this reporter, it was so sad because he procrastinated
- 37:23and his dad passed away, and then he had us digitize all of his
- 37:29dad's photos. He was an avid photographer and handy the story. It took
- 37:35seven months and it got so big. We had profiled five of our customers,
- 37:40ones an executive at Chevron that had a scan about one hundred thousand of
- 37:45his slides. But you remember, remember I'm dating myself. But Mary Tyler
- 37:50Moore show, Oh yes, definitely, with that Ed Asner and all and
- 37:53Barry Tyler Moore, the whole cast exactly. I'm sure your listeners do too,
- 37:59and of course with Lou Grant afterwards. Well after ed Asner passed away,
- 38:04his son had us digitize his dad's entire lifetime of photos that no one's
- 38:12ever seen. Matt had posted them on social media, got tens of thousands
- 38:17of admiration. You'll love everything from it, and Matt and was in the
- 38:23story and a lot of his dad's most favorite photos just spanning decades were profiled
- 38:32too. But the story I'm sharing is is I mentioned it's aspirational when the
- 38:39AP story hit, it changed everything or everything we had kind of crashed.
- 38:45We had to redesign the website modernize it, which was good, and that
- 38:52goes into your opening comment about you know, people just wait until something happens,
- 38:59but it was it changed everything for us being featured in the Associated Press.
- 39:06So really happy that so many people finally jumped on board, gathered all
- 39:13of those photo slides, carousels, movies and all. If our listeners want
- 39:16to check out that article from Michael Leikey, they can actually find that there's
- 39:22a link on the front page of our website where they can go through and
- 39:24read about his experience of having to find this as a service and what needed
- 39:30to be done. And I think most people, Mitch, they find out
- 39:35that it is super easy that you take a lot of that work out of
- 39:38it. Because there are people that will say, oh, I've bought myself
- 39:42a scanner, right, you know, one came with the printer, and
- 39:45they they will think, okay, I'll start doing this. But there's a
- 39:49lot more that goes into that. There is you know, you could purchase
- 39:53a do it yourself scanner. You know, you're out hundreds of dollars before
- 39:58digitizing your first photo. But for me, my passion has always been about
- 40:02helping people preserve their memories. And competition's great, it helps raise the tide
- 40:07of awareness for it. But what we did remember the old Kodak motto,
- 40:14you press the button, we do the rest. Yes, yes, right,
- 40:17right, And that's that's what we did at scanmyphotos dot com, where
- 40:24all you do is you go to the website, click whatever you want,
- 40:28any product, and send us all of that. It's digitized. But what
- 40:34we're excuse me, what's crazy now is we have scan fast, which is
- 40:39same day scanning, and people need that from memorial services for any and every
- 40:44reason. So your entire order is completed the same day and it's uploaded to
- 40:50your inbox. Oh wow, the same day, so somebody is able to
- 40:54get you the photos they've got it on this Suddenly, remember we've got a
- 40:59memorial service. We want to have, you know, a presentation that is
- 41:01in the background while we're you know, being prepared for speeches and you know,
- 41:07eulogies. This could be running in the back. They can get that
- 41:10to you in the morning and still have it by later that day for them
- 41:15to or in the evening, say that's it. Well, yeah, we
- 41:17did it for CBS News Correspondence was had the coolest project. He too,
- 41:22like everyone else, discovered it was about one hundred boxes, so he sent
- 41:28them to us. It was done the same day. He got it that
- 41:30night, and he actually reached out and thought that there was a problem because
- 41:35he got an email and was wondering what happened. I had explained to them
- 41:39that click. They clicked, and John Dunn responsored, all it's all done,
- 41:45and he flew out to surprise his mom. It was a big family
- 41:49reunion. They did just that. They did a giant screen and they showed
- 41:53the entire what do you buy a parent that's ninety You can't. This is
- 41:59what you buy them. The memories, Yeah, the memories being able to
- 42:02see them again, and for the entire family. It used to be you
- 42:06would sit down with, you know, the grandparents, because I remember sitting
- 42:08with my grandma, Grandma Francis, and she had the photo album and she
- 42:14would show me pictures of you know, the house in Burma and the Governor's
- 42:19ball that they went to. I am thinking, now, these photos and
- 42:22here's the deal, Mitch. We've seen over the years, photos have changed
- 42:27in size and shape and look. And it used to be you could have
- 42:30a photo of the size of a postage stamp and that would be okay for
- 42:35some, but for older eyes that might be difficult to see. Can you
- 42:38take some of these small photos that are the size of like two postage stamps
- 42:44and increase them in size so they're easier to see. That's a great question,
- 42:49absolutely, And that's what scam my photos is all about because they're traditional
- 42:52JPEG files, so you can watch all of them on a giant screen television.
- 43:00But what a lot of people are doing now because we're content providers for
- 43:04every photo sharing app, whether it's Instagram, Facebook, Snap, threads,
- 43:09now, TikTok x, all of that snap where people are just uploading their
- 43:16recent pictures from their smartphone, their camera roll of if they're like me,
- 43:21you know, like the food you ate last night, but not those nostalgic
- 43:25decades past pictures that have so many amazing stories behind it that you need to
- 43:32share and narrate and explain who's in it, what they're doing, where you
- 43:36were. Now, how are these collated So somebody maybe listening right now has
- 43:42a box of photos and they're looking at them right out going. I keep
- 43:45saying I'm going to attack it. That's that procrastination. They get it to
- 43:50you, all right, What is this process for getting them to you?
- 43:53Number one and getting them back? Sure, the easiest one. The most
- 43:58popular services are the prepaid fill the box service. So for photos, it
- 44:01holds about two thousand pictures as little is like two hundred and twenty dollars and
- 44:07everything scan shippings included all of that, and to prepare it, bundle it
- 44:14in piles stacks of about one hundred or so, use an index card and
- 44:20write down what the topic is, what the theme, the birthday, anniversary,
- 44:23special event, holiday, and just put a rubber band around those hues.
- 44:29Scan in order so the index card with your message is on it.
- 44:32And we could even scan the back of photos if there's handwritten messages. And
- 44:37then you get it back now. And here's the really cool thing, because
- 44:42once you get everything back, people upload it to services like Google Photos,
- 44:47and then it's on your phone. And at the very bottom of Google Photos
- 44:53on the lower right is a little magnifying glass so you could type in car,
- 45:00dog, each anything you want, and it's going to use its image
- 45:05recognition tools to sort and categorize all of those topics at a man, if
- 45:13you click on a picture of a parent relative, it will find all the
- 45:17other similar ones. So basically they do the magic. But the challenge is
- 45:22how do you get not just one or two, but thousands, tens of
- 45:27thousands of those pictures and slides negatives done so that that's where scanned my photos
- 45:32comes in. Now, Mitch, I know for a fact that you're not
- 45:37sitting there at a machine lifting the cover of the head scanner putting a photo
- 45:42down, and that's not how you operate. Over the years, and like
- 45:45you said, thirty years you and Carl have been doing this. This is
- 45:50amazing because you have invested in top quality machinery and imaging equipment to get this
- 45:55done, to give you that best look. Indeed, and Carl I pioneered
- 46:00this service. But the only ones in the world that have this technology,
- 46:04and it is insane. So for photos, we digitize one thousand photos in
- 46:09five minutes. For slides, now each thirty five millimeters mounted slide is scanned
- 46:16one every second. And way back in two thousand and eight, there was
- 46:22a reporter for The New York Times that I've reached out to and I explained
- 46:28that we could scan photos that fast. They said, I don't believe it,
- 46:31and we showed them what it does. And two weeks later it was
- 46:36the feature article on scan my Photos in the New York Times and that's what
- 46:42really put us on the map. That is great. I love it,
- 46:45And this article from AP also is great. And once again you can find
- 46:47that at tech talk radio dot com. If our listeners want to find out
- 46:51more Mitch about the service, what's the best thing for them to do?
- 46:57Sure, just go to scan my photos dot com and at the very top
- 47:00there's a blue crawl with a message about the Associated Press article and the quote
- 47:07from the reporter that all five people profiled, including the reporter, had a
- 47:14great experience with Scanned my Photos. And most importantly right afterwards is that promo
- 47:21code that everyone loves. It's AP as an Social Press AP twenty and you
- 47:27just type that in at checkout. But to handle everything, just scan myphotos
- 47:30dot com super easy. We have support. Everyone here is just so passionate
- 47:36about helping the nation preserve all their memories. I know that having you know,
- 47:40a one stop shop for doing this, whether it be small photos,
- 47:45large photos, you do it all I do know that there are listeners,
- 47:49and I've had listeners that have asked me in the past that have been very
- 47:52happy with your service, but want to do their Super eight films or even
- 47:57let's go back even further before Super eight. Believe it or not, they
- 48:00were shooting that's sixteen millimeter. Is that something that you are are doing or
- 48:06something you've kind of looked at? We do, and on the website we'll
- 48:10see all the different services for eight millimeter sixteen millimeter. What's really cool about
- 48:16our technology though, is we don't just scan the reels of eight millimeter film.
- 48:23It's individually digitized every frame. So what that means is, as you're
- 48:30watching it, you could stop it, pause it, and that image is
- 48:35crystal clear, sharp digitized. So it's not doing it the old fashioned way.
- 48:40So that's a really important feature for it, especially for everyone has the
- 48:46eight millimeter boxes and those little boxes of movie film, but they're just sitting
- 48:52and they're starting to fade away. If they're stored in an attic where you
- 48:58have heat, mildew all, garage, basement, all those memories are being
- 49:04fading away. Well, and we've had, you know, people that have
- 49:07downsized especially here in Green Valley. They'll downsize and maybe move into you know,
- 49:15whether it be assisted living or you know, living independently, but they
- 49:19don't have as much space. Maybe they had so they put stuff in storage
- 49:22for photos. This could actually not be a good thing. It's not beyond
- 49:30all those issues. The others are, of course natural disasters, and it's
- 49:37so emotional when we hear stories from people that lost everything from an earthquake,
- 49:43fire, flood, hurricane, all of that water damage, smoke damage,
- 49:47and there are no copies. But Andy, your listeners are really smart techies
- 49:52also, so they know the importance. Once you get everything back, it's
- 49:58on DVD data akigabyte thumb drive for the instant upload. Please please please make
- 50:06backups, store them in the cloud Google photos, and give them to friends
- 50:09relative safety deposit box. These files aren't locked. You have full access,
- 50:16so you can make as many copies as you want, but keep them off
- 50:21site. We've heard from people who had us digitize everything. All the photos
- 50:24were destroyed as well as the work we did. So now we have a
- 50:31backup services as well, which is kind of cool. Where people say I
- 50:36lost everything, we press a button and they get everything saved. And sent
- 50:40to them. I love that once again, scam my photos, Mitch.
- 50:45Always always great to talk to you. And you know, if you're looking
- 50:47for the gift for the holidays, this could make a great gift for somebody
- 50:52to be able to take those images and give them a presentation. Indeed,
- 50:58and of course on the website, I one of the popular ones, especially
- 51:02during the holidays when you don't know what to give and you don't want to
- 51:06do the normal standard gifts that really don't have any emotion. Just click on
- 51:12the e gift certificates, order them, everyone gets them instantly, write a
- 51:17customized message and all your relatives then can place orders and they just type in
- 51:23the code they get so it's all automated. But the e gift cards are
- 51:30biggest during the holidays. That's a great idea. I love it. Well.
- 51:34Once again, Mitch, it's great to talk to you again. We
- 51:36look forward to talking to you again into the new year and have a wonderful

- 51:55back to tech Talk Radio. WHI Guy reporting in Oh, wise Guy,
- 52:00he's the wise guy. New video doorbell Video Doorbell version two. Who all
- 52:07right? It is a two K camera with local micro st storage, which
- 52:12the first video doorbell didn't have. I have the first video doorbell, and
- 52:16I will say that I'm not going to get this one. Why no,
- 52:20Why wouldn't you get it? Because it will nullify my current video doorbell,
- 52:24which works just fine and I'm super happy with it, and I would have
- 52:27to buy new chimes. This one will work with your existing chime. It
- 52:30includes the transformer that you put into your existing chime that will trigger your original
- 52:35existing chime. If you have a house that was built with a transformed chime.
- 52:38I want it to work with the three chimes, to have one of
- 52:40the basement, one of the main floor, one upstairs. Okay, just
- 52:45make sure I understand we're talking about like real, live physical chimes. Yeah,
- 52:49the new V two version two will work with your existing in house chimes
- 52:53before like mine, it's wired so it runs off the same transformer, but
- 52:59I had to bypass the courage. However, it worked internal circuitry talks to
- 53:04the cloud. It shines the ones that said it doesn't actually push a signal
- 53:07to the internal chimes. This new version two includes pieces to mount in your
- 53:14internal chimes. You push the button at ding Dong's you know, home phone
- 53:16style, right, it's cool and the price is guess like the prices fifty
- 53:22nine for the camera plus one chime thirty nine ninety nine. That's a good
- 53:25deal now morbell chime and one hundred and twenty eight gig memory card fifty four
- 53:30nine. All right? Now? Can you have it stream to the web,
- 53:34so if you're not home, you'll get the notification on your smartphone and
- 53:37you could answer it. Is it a two weeks really? Same same same,
- 53:42same as the V one. If somebody triggers the alarm, I'll get
- 53:46a notification on my phone. It goes to the it's all through the cloud.
- 53:49You could then see it on your phone. Is there a monthly charge
- 53:52for that? Well? So I don't think so, because mine doesn't qualify
- 53:55for camp plus you can get if you if you do get it into campus.
- 54:00I'm scrolling to their website right now. You can get their AI detections
- 54:06for so person package pet detection. If you enroll it into Camplus. Yes,
- 54:13you can for an unlimited number of cameras, paid ninety nine dollars a
- 54:15year for an unlimited number of cameras for Camplus. Now. You can find
- 54:19this at wys dot com Wyze dot com. Uh a lot cheaper than the
- 54:24Google Nest doorbell that I bought, which was one ninety nine. Uh.
- 54:29And then I pay I have to pay them basically an annual fee to be
- 54:32able to access all of this this data. Wyse's plan is what what does
- 54:38it costs? Again? Should so the camera plus a chime so a yeah,
- 54:43so the the door up plus the chime controller thirty ninety nine. If
- 54:46you already have multiple cameras like I do, you would just enroll it in
- 54:51your Camplus. Because I've got seven cameras that are already enrolled in camplus for
- 54:57ninety nine dollars a year. This would be the eighth if I added it.
- 55:00So you guys can still see me set the bag on fire in your
- 55:01doorstep. That's what you're saying, right wearing your Halloween costume. Well that's
- 55:07it. We hope everybody has a a great week, a great Halloween,
- 55:12Green Valley. We don't get as many kids that come out here, I
- 55:15still say they need to take it and make it for adults. Make it
- 55:17a special day where you go to the neighbors and you return all the tools
- 55:21you've borrowed over the years from your neighbor. That's it for this week.
