- 1:41Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. We met it to the end
- 1:43Speaker 3: of your work week unless you're working. The State Football
- 1:47Speaker 3: Championships at Lailey Field, presented by Toweota get underway today.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Whether either whether you're working or not, they're still going
- 1:52Speaker 3: to get underway. Standing by Tom Bragg, We're going to
- 1:54Speaker 3: talk to him about that. Plus a little later on.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Evan Osborne from Capitol Market is here. This is really
- 1:59Speaker 3: their busy season, as if there's ever a non busy
- 2:02Speaker 3: season at Capitol Market. We'll talk to him about some
- 2:04Speaker 3: goins on there. And I also hear that he and
- 2:06Speaker 3: his dance partner are one of the teams in the
- 2:08Speaker 3: upcoming Dancing with the Stars program for the United Way
- 2:11Speaker 3: that was announced earlier this week. Getting that a little
- 2:14Speaker 3: bit with Evan coming up a little bit later on. Plus,
- 2:16Speaker 3: you know, getting through the holiday season can be a
- 2:19Speaker 3: burden for a lot of people. I'm gonna help you
- 2:22Speaker 3: get through that. I have brought in an expert author,
- 2:24Speaker 3: Lily Anne Ford no Now and she's written a book
- 2:29Speaker 3: about how you can get through the holidays semi stress free,
- 2:32Speaker 3: not guaranteed, but semi stress free. We're gonna talk to
- 2:34Speaker 3: her about that. Plus we'd scheduled Hannah Gardner from the
- 2:37Speaker 3: Gonna Charles Newman Association as always on Friday with Are
- 2:40Speaker 3: Not Me Please? Pet of the Week. I am sad
- 2:42Speaker 3: to report that Hannah is not with us. Hannah is
- 2:45Speaker 3: feeling a little under the weather, she texted me this morning.
- 2:49Speaker 3: But I do have the dog, and I will talk
- 2:51Speaker 3: about the dog known as Archer. And I've already got
- 2:55Speaker 3: Archer's picture posted on my social media as I always do.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and at Dave A seventy
- 3:01Speaker 3: on Twitter X if you prefer so. We'll talk about
- 3:04Speaker 3: Archer a little bit later. On joining me now in
- 3:06Speaker 3: studio though, Tom Bragg talk a little high school football time.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Good morning, welcome to the show. Hey, thanks for having
- 3:10Speaker 3: me on Dave you know the big bosses in town.
- 3:13Speaker 3: And he brought donuts, and so that's why I want
- 3:17Speaker 3: to think. That's not why you joined us in person
- 3:20Speaker 3: today because you but there are donuts here. I'm just
- 3:22Speaker 3: letting you know.
- 3:23Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I gotta save those for after. I'll just
- 3:25Speaker 6: have donut all over the place.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, I saw Murphy with one earlier, so Lord
- 3:29Speaker 3: knows what the new production studio is, and it looked
- 3:31Speaker 3: like in here covered in glaze and everything. So before though,
- 3:35Speaker 3: I'm kidding, I'm kiddy Murphy. Before we get into talking
- 3:39Speaker 3: about high school football in the championship games, I want
- 3:41Speaker 3: to talk about two names though, that have dominated West
- 3:43Speaker 3: Virginia sports headlines for the past week. Neil Brown and
- 3:47Speaker 3: Charles Hoff are out at WVU and Marshall respectively, and
- 3:51Speaker 3: now rich Rod and Tony Gibson are in. Let's start
- 3:53Speaker 3: with Gibbey at Marshall, former defensive coordinator, most recently in
- 3:57Speaker 3: North Carolina State. The old Van Bulldog is coming home
- 4:00Speaker 3: to Marshall, announced yesterday officially at their press or in
- 4:03Speaker 3: Huntings And your thoughts on Tony.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Gibson, I think with the situation what it was in Huntington,
- 4:09Speaker 6: it seemed toxic, like a toxic relationship along both sides,
- 4:12Speaker 6: both from Huff and Marshall. They were both just done
- 4:15Speaker 6: with each other. So you gotta go out and almost
- 4:19Speaker 6: make a pr higher if you're Marshall, you got to
- 4:21Speaker 6: soften that blow. And man, Tony Gibson has been a
- 4:23Speaker 6: slam dunk so far. The Herd fans are in love
- 4:26Speaker 6: with him. They love the Boone County angle, they love
- 4:29Speaker 6: bringing a West Virginia boy home. And I don't know
- 4:32Speaker 6: if you saw Gibbey's press conference yesterday, he a plus
- 4:35Speaker 6: ten to ten, no notes on it. He won the
- 4:37Speaker 6: press conference. It'll be interesting. I think expectations are going
- 4:41Speaker 6: to be high.
- 4:41Speaker 7: Though.
- 4:42Speaker 6: You can't come in and take over for a guy
- 4:43Speaker 6: that just won the conference championship. Yeah, he left under
- 4:47Speaker 6: some not so great circumstances, but he won a trophy
- 4:49Speaker 6: on his way out the door. So there's a standard
- 4:51Speaker 6: that that Gibby's going to have to meet, and I
- 4:54Speaker 6: think Herd fans will be patient to a degree. I
- 4:58Speaker 6: don't think you can come out and stay next year.
- 5:00Speaker 6: You've got to be able to play the portal game. Marshall,
- 5:03Speaker 6: of course, suffered a lot of losses in the portal
- 5:05Speaker 6: this week. Remains to be seen if all those guys
- 5:07Speaker 6: will actually leave.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I think a lot of noos they were trying to
- 5:09Speaker 3: see if Red Dawson was eligible to come in to
- 5:11Speaker 3: play for Marshall.
- 5:12Speaker 6: Yeah, don't threaten him with the good time man, he
- 5:14Speaker 6: might strap him on and come down and start running
- 5:17Speaker 6: Oklahoma drills again.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I don't think they want I don't think they want that.
- 5:20Speaker 6: But but yeah, the Huff, the Hoff divorce, we'll call it,
- 5:23Speaker 6: was messy. It is what it is at this point.
- 5:26Speaker 6: And I think for Marshall in general, you start moving
- 5:29Speaker 6: on with a big soccer game this weekend, and you
- 5:31Speaker 6: really start moving on as a football team when you
- 5:34Speaker 6: when you get through that bowl game and things really
- 5:36Speaker 6: get going under the Gibbe regime, you start recruiting, you
- 5:38Speaker 6: start seeing these guys out on the road, you start
- 5:40Speaker 6: getting ready for the spring. It'll feel more real than
- 5:42Speaker 6: I think.
- 5:43Speaker 3: What about rich Rod and Morgantown. That's a that's an
- 5:45Speaker 3: interesting one, man. I he of all.
- 5:48Speaker 6: The candidates, it's he had. I mean, he's won everywhere.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Say what you will about his personal life, some of
- 5:53Speaker 6: the things he's gotten in trouble for he got run
- 5:55Speaker 6: out of Arizona under some auspicious circumstances. But the guy wins.
- 6:00Speaker 6: And that's really what West Virginia is going for right now.
- 6:04Speaker 6: The the powers that be, the people with money, the
- 6:06Speaker 6: people with stroke behind the scenes, seem to really start
- 6:09Speaker 6: pushing for this even before Neil was let go, So
- 6:12Speaker 6: I'm not super surprised that that eventually it landed here.
- 6:15Speaker 6: He's got the support of the not necessarily all the alumni,
- 6:19Speaker 6: but the prominent alumni, the the in the media alumni.
- 6:23Speaker 6: You've got guys like Owen Schmidt all over the state
- 6:25Speaker 6: this week talking up how much it's great to have
- 6:28Speaker 6: the band back together. You've seen pac Man Jones kind
- 6:30Speaker 6: of come out of hibernation to throw his name in
- 6:32Speaker 6: the hat. Of course, Pat McAfee's out front about everyone show.
- 6:35Speaker 6: I'm doing a show at the Colisseum today. Did you
- 6:37Speaker 6: see they're gonna sell beer at the Colisseum today during
- 6:39Speaker 6: the press conference. So good, they're gonna open up the concessions.
- 6:41Speaker 3: What could go wrong? Right? Yeah?
- 6:43Speaker 6: But I think you know it. It's similar to to
- 6:47Speaker 6: Gibbey situation at Marshall. You have if if you bring
- 6:50Speaker 6: rich Rod back, it's not the gold Watch tour you
- 6:53Speaker 6: got to. You're bringing him back to win ball games.
- 6:55Speaker 6: You're bringing him back to become a prominent member of
- 6:58Speaker 6: the upper crust of college football, which you really haven't
- 7:02Speaker 6: been since Rich left. You tiptoed up to it when
- 7:04Speaker 6: Dana was there. You kind of peeked over the wall
- 7:06Speaker 6: and looked in at the party, but you didn't get
- 7:08Speaker 6: to come in. The idea is to get the invite
- 7:11Speaker 6: into the party, and that's why rich is here. Anything
- 7:13Speaker 6: less than that is a failure, I think for them.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Talking with Tom Bragg, I will want to remind you
- 7:17Speaker 3: that in the heart of West Virginia there exists a
- 7:19Speaker 3: profound force that goes beyond the realm with sports, transcending
- 7:22Speaker 3: limitations and fostering a sense of belonging to special Olympics
- 7:25Speaker 3: a remarkable initiative showcase of the latest episode of West Virginia,
- 7:28Speaker 3: enriched in collaboration with Huntington stands as a testament to
- 7:31Speaker 3: the power of determination, unity and unwavering support. See of
- 7:34Speaker 3: video highlighting special Olympics, Facebook dot Com, Last five AGWCCHS.
- 7:38Speaker 3: All right, moving on, let's talk High School Football Championships
- 7:40Speaker 3: Championship games presented by Toyota back in Charleston. Game one
- 7:44Speaker 3: at noon today at lately a single a battle between
- 7:46Speaker 3: Wahama and Cameron.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Talk about that matchup. You know, I think it's a
- 7:50Speaker 6: really good game. You get into some of these small
- 7:52Speaker 6: school games, the Class A games, and it can come
- 7:55Speaker 6: down to.
- 7:56Speaker 3: A player here or a play there.
- 7:59Speaker 6: These are two teams, as you know, covering the Hoover games,
- 8:02Speaker 6: calling the Hoover games every week. I haven't been able
- 8:04Speaker 6: to get out to as many games as I have
- 8:05Speaker 6: in the past, so you're not quite as familiar in
- 8:09Speaker 6: depth with some of these teams. But well, you start
- 8:10Speaker 6: doing is you start scoreboard watching. You start seeing the
- 8:12Speaker 6: Wahama score and the Cameron score every week, and you think, WHOA,
- 8:15Speaker 6: maybe they're two of the Class A teams that can
- 8:17Speaker 6: make a run.
- 8:18Speaker 3: This year.
- 8:18Speaker 6: You see some of the traditional powers in Class A
- 8:21Speaker 6: start to peel off as the playoffs go around. Both
- 8:23Speaker 6: of these teams had to go on the road and win.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Last week. It's the three versus four games. They were
- 8:28Speaker 6: both the road teams in the semi finals, and I
- 8:30Speaker 6: think it's going to be a fun one. It's not
- 8:32Speaker 6: a matchup that you see a whole lot in Class A.
- 8:34Speaker 6: Wahama and Cameron in very different parts of the state.
- 8:37Speaker 6: Wahamas had some success at this level over the last
- 8:40Speaker 6: ten or fifteen years. They've been in state title games,
- 8:42Speaker 6: have won one. Cameron kind of a new thing to
- 8:45Speaker 6: get to this stage and be expected to maybe go
- 8:48Speaker 6: in and make some noise and win a trophy at
- 8:49Speaker 6: the end. I think it's going to be a fun one.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Man. The fighting logan routes the Cameron Drafts seven o'clock
- 8:55Speaker 3: game that night. Frankfort and Roane County Class Double A.
- 8:59Speaker 3: That's an interest on Ronan County has kind of flown
- 9:01Speaker 3: under the radar. I think this year for is good
- 9:04Speaker 3: as they've been. Frankfort, I think had a couple of
- 9:07Speaker 3: big games against some contenders middle of the season where
- 9:10Speaker 3: you thought, okay, we'll see what the what the falcons
- 9:12Speaker 3: are made of in these and they passed all the
- 9:15Speaker 3: tests with flying colors. I think Frankfort has kind of
- 9:18Speaker 3: had it rolling right now. Ronan County's going to have
- 9:20Speaker 3: their hands full if anybody's gonna take a shot at
- 9:23Speaker 3: this Frankfort team this year. In Class Double A, I
- 9:24Speaker 3: think Rodan County's probably your best bet, similar to kind
- 9:28Speaker 3: of what Hoover's facing in Class Triple A. It's a
- 9:30Speaker 3: tall task, but if there's a second best team that
- 9:33Speaker 3: deserves to get that shot at the team on top,
- 9:35Speaker 3: it's probably the Huskies and Triple A. Similar to Ronan
- 9:38Speaker 3: County in Double A. I think it's going to be
- 9:40Speaker 3: a fun Friday close games. I think they're going to
- 9:42Speaker 3: be exciting all right. Tomorrow we get it started at
- 9:44Speaker 3: noon with Bridgeport and Hoover at Nude. You've called Hoover
- 9:46Speaker 3: as you referenced all season long, your thoughts on that one.
- 9:49Speaker 6: I think for Herbert Hoover, this is by far the
- 9:53Speaker 6: best opponent, best opposition that they've played all season. And
- 9:56Speaker 6: that's not a knock on the Princeton's Oak Hills, the Nitros,
- 9:59Speaker 6: the teams they've played. Look, Bridgeport is very good every season,
- 10:03Speaker 6: and to hear the people from Harrison County tell it,
- 10:05Speaker 6: this year, they're not saying it definitively day. But they're
- 10:08Speaker 6: saying this team's on the list of the best teams
- 10:11Speaker 6: they've ever had up there, and that's saying a lot
- 10:14Speaker 6: when you consider the football history at Bridgeport. Hoover's just
- 10:18Speaker 6: got to keep doing what got them to this point.
- 10:20Speaker 6: Lean on the guys that got you here. As good
- 10:22Speaker 6: as Bridgeport is, I don't think there's an individual player
- 10:25Speaker 6: on the field that's better at football at any given
- 10:27Speaker 6: time than Dane Hatfield. When Dane Hatfield's on the field,
- 10:29Speaker 6: he's the best football player offense or defense. Hasn't played
- 10:32Speaker 6: much defense this year, but lean on him, Lean on
- 10:34Speaker 6: your Blake Fishers. You know, Hoover's gotten to this point
- 10:38Speaker 6: through a little bit of luck. They haven't faced many
- 10:40Speaker 6: injuries at all this season. That's something that's been a
- 10:43Speaker 6: trouble for them the last few years. They haven't turned
- 10:45Speaker 6: the ball over a whole lot, and they haven't really
- 10:47Speaker 6: had to play them from behind very much. They've been
- 10:50Speaker 6: able to establish the lead and just kind of sit
- 10:52Speaker 6: on it. Not sure that's going to be the case
- 10:54Speaker 6: tomorrow afternoon when they take on Bridgeport, But if there's
- 10:57Speaker 6: a recipe for success, it's just play a clean game.
- 11:00Speaker 6: Play your game and hope for the best. They're going
- 11:03Speaker 6: to have to play out of their minds to bring
- 11:06Speaker 6: a title back to Elkfew on Saturday. But it's not
- 11:08Speaker 6: out of the realm of possibility. They've passed all the
- 11:10Speaker 6: tests so far. What's one more if you're the Huskies
- 11:12Speaker 6: right now. The other side of that, though, Bridgeport, man,
- 11:15Speaker 6: what a machine.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Just keep going. If you're Bridgeport, play your game and
- 11:18Speaker 3: finally Quada. Tomorrow night at seven o'clock. It's Martinsburg and
- 11:21Speaker 3: spring Mills. These schools, I think Fred said something like
- 11:24Speaker 3: they're like eighteen miles apart or something, maybe less than
- 11:27Speaker 3: that on the off the interstate up there. But they're
- 11:29Speaker 3: coming to Charleston. They're making the three hundred and fifty
- 11:31Speaker 3: sixty mile whatever it is to get down there to play.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Talk about these two before we go.
- 11:36Speaker 6: You know, it's interesting the first Super Six when they
- 11:39Speaker 6: went up to Wheeling, the double A game was Poka
- 11:41Speaker 6: versus Systemville. Those teams are probably about as far away
- 11:44Speaker 6: as spring Mills and Martinsburg. They had to go all
- 11:46Speaker 6: the way up to Wheeling. The first one back in Charleston.
- 11:48Speaker 6: Let's bring two teams from the Eastern bandhandle down to play.
- 11:51Speaker 6: I think it's going to be a fantastic game. When
- 11:53Speaker 6: they met in the regular season, it was kind of
- 11:55Speaker 6: a game of the year type atmosphere up there. Martinsburg
- 11:58Speaker 6: got the win, but it was and maybe before their
- 12:01Speaker 6: semifinal game against Huntington last week, the biggest test that
- 12:03Speaker 6: the Bulldogs faced all season. Really, the only spot where
- 12:06Speaker 6: spring Mills is tripped up this season was that Martinsburg game.
- 12:09Speaker 6: They've controversy ineligible players aside, they've been smashing people when
- 12:14Speaker 6: they roll out there. I think Martinsburg probably is should
- 12:18Speaker 6: be the favorite again. They won the regular season game.
- 12:20Speaker 6: You're kind of you're the king until someone he knocks
- 12:22Speaker 6: you off. But man, spring Mills is hungry. They've seen
- 12:25Speaker 6: him once already. I think this one, man, it's got
- 12:28Speaker 6: all the makings of being a classic. I hope that
- 12:30Speaker 6: they're able to bring a really good crowd down. I
- 12:32Speaker 6: know it's a long drive, but I think that type
- 12:34Speaker 6: of game, the level they're going to play out is
- 12:36Speaker 6: going to be really fun to watch for the folks
- 12:38Speaker 6: that get to come down to the stadium and see
- 12:39Speaker 6: it all.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Right now, quickly, you got about thirty seconds here. I
- 12:41Speaker 3: want to talk about. You mentioned this to me off
- 12:43Speaker 3: their the last time that the Championships were played in Charleston.
- 12:49Speaker 3: You were there, but you were how old? I was
- 12:51Speaker 3: nine years old? Nine?
- 12:52Speaker 6: It was nineteen ninety three. My grandpa worked for AT
- 12:54Speaker 6: and T for years and years and years. I think
- 12:55Speaker 6: they were one of the sponsors. So we got tickets
- 12:57Speaker 6: to the Championships every year, and I remember we went
- 13:00Speaker 6: to that DuPont Capital game.
- 13:01Speaker 3: That was a fun one. It was indeed a good time.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Great to see it back in Charleston again. Now a
- 13:05Speaker 3: reminder that, of course we'll have all the games on
- 13:07Speaker 3: the radio, but we'll also have the games at the
- 13:08Speaker 3: website and you can download the Metro News TV app
- 13:11Speaker 3: and you can watch all of the games. Tom. I
- 13:12Speaker 3: know you'll be there, you and Murphy and Fred and
- 13:15Speaker 3: everybody that's gonna be calling the games. Have a great
- 13:20Speaker 3: series of broadcasts. Enjoy yourself, man, and stay out of trouble.
- 13:22Speaker 6: Yeah, if you can't make it down in person, there's
- 13:24Speaker 6: plenty of ways to watch it, no excuses. Everybody needs
- 13:26Speaker 6: to support this thing. I think it's going to be fantastic,
- 13:28Speaker 6: all right.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Tom Brag I appreciate you being here, man. Thanks a
- 13:30Speaker 3: lot now again, No Hannah Gardner this week because she's
- 13:34Speaker 3: feeling none of the weather. We do have though our
- 13:37Speaker 3: adopt me please spend it the week. Picture posted on
- 13:39Speaker 3: Dave Allen Radio, on Facebook and at Dave A seventy
- 13:42Speaker 3: and Twitter. The animal this week is a dog Tom
- 13:45Speaker 3: named Archer. Eleven month old male, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated,
- 13:50Speaker 3: around fifty eight pounds, Ready to join your family. He
- 13:53Speaker 3: came in as a stray with an arrow in his paw.
- 13:57Speaker 3: They got that taken care of. He's good to go.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Say that he's great with cats and great with dogs.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I don't know that. Maybe that was a little bit
- 14:05Speaker 3: of I don't know if I were shot with an arrow,
- 14:07Speaker 3: whether I want to be called Archer or not. Maybe
- 14:09Speaker 3: he could change his name. I was thinking the more
- 14:11Speaker 3: appropriate name would be Target. But who wants to be
- 14:13Speaker 3: called that?
- 14:13Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:14Speaker 3: But he's a beautiful dog, eleven months old. He's and
- 14:16Speaker 3: to get his pictures posted on my social media, so

- 18:14Speaker 3: book The Four Santas, and she joins us now via
- 18:16Speaker 3: the Bigley Piggley Wiggly Hotline. Lily, good morning, welcome to
- 18:19Speaker 3: the show, and.
- 18:21Speaker 10: Good morning death, and thank you so much for having me.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Now, before we get to
- 18:26Speaker 3: your work and your advice, tell us a little bit
- 18:29Speaker 3: about you, because you have a very interesting story.
- 18:34Speaker 10: Well where do I stop? It would take her own
- 18:38Speaker 10: time to explain that I've done so many things in
- 18:42Speaker 10: my life. And three and a half years ago I
- 18:45Speaker 10: started to it and my first book was Wins from Ago.
- 18:51Speaker 10: And this year I decided to write a book for
- 18:54Speaker 10: children based on a display that I do every year.
- 18:59Speaker 10: It's very large forting sheet by eight three, et cetera.
- 19:02Speaker 10: It's inside the house. It has over thirty animations, and
- 19:07Speaker 10: I created everything myself, and I created stories. So this
- 19:11Speaker 10: year it's the first story of the series. Are going
- 19:15Speaker 10: to write about that disclaim.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Now, the book that we have is called that we
- 19:20Speaker 3: want to talk to you about. It's called The Force.
- 19:22Speaker 3: The Force Santas and UH and then the kids book
- 19:25Speaker 3: tell us about the book because there are some very
- 19:28Speaker 3: valuable lessons for adults in there, even though it's designed
- 19:31Speaker 3: for kids.
- 19:33Speaker 10: Yes, it's about Fanta Claus who UH discovered that it
- 19:41Speaker 10: was very hard for him to reach all the kids
- 19:44Speaker 10: all overund the world. There were more and more kids,
- 19:47Speaker 10: so it decided to take help and it had brothers.
- 19:52Speaker 10: So yeah, say, and that's basically the story. So they
- 19:56Speaker 10: each came with their own talents, it is, and they
- 20:01Speaker 10: were so eager to help their brothers. So it's a
- 20:04Speaker 10: very happy story. And it reminds us that we two
- 20:10Speaker 10: during this period of time, the Christmas season, the holiday
- 20:13Speaker 10: season is very sorry, joyful, but also very stressful, and
- 20:19Speaker 10: we bring up upon ourselves because we put too much
- 20:23Speaker 10: on our plate. And I have a few advice to
- 20:28Speaker 10: help and it helps not only for Christmas, but any
- 20:31Speaker 10: major events really when you have to organize something very
- 20:34Speaker 10: big and it's very just. So first of all, it's
- 20:37Speaker 10: to prioritize and plan early, like the Christmas letter, for instance,
- 20:44Speaker 10: it's good to think of about it, maybe in November.
- 20:48Speaker 10: What are you going to put in it? So when
- 20:50Speaker 10: it's ready, you have your letters. You can't send it
- 20:52Speaker 10: early December and it's out of the way. But also
- 20:56Speaker 10: make a list for shopping, booking, travel as well. That's
- 21:01Speaker 10: important to do it early. Planning meals, parties, et cetera.
- 21:05Speaker 10: So it's good to have a plan and write it
- 21:08Speaker 10: down and prioritize and then delegate tasks like hans I did.
- 21:15Speaker 10: It's very important to be able to ask for help.
- 21:19Speaker 10: And it could be about decorating, cooking, and actually it
- 21:23Speaker 10: could be a lot of fun cooking. It could be
- 21:26Speaker 10: taking cookies with neighbors or close friends and it's a
- 21:31Speaker 10: joyful event and it could become a tradition every year.
- 21:35Speaker 10: So why not also sex realistic expectations. It doesn't have
- 21:44Speaker 10: to be perfect. I mean, the days leading to Christmas
- 21:48Speaker 10: and all those things you do don't have to be perfect.
- 21:52Speaker 10: What's very important is spending quality times that loved ones.
- 21:57Speaker 10: That's the most important. It's the time to reopen your
- 22:02Speaker 10: door to maybe friends you haven't seen for a long time.
- 22:05Speaker 10: Also those two people who are maybe lonely and who
- 22:11Speaker 10: care to have, you know, contact with somebody. So so
- 22:17Speaker 10: that's that's quite important to do. And also stay flexible
- 22:23Speaker 10: on task because you have a lot of shopping to
- 22:26Speaker 10: do and sometimes it's difficult because kids want to certain
- 22:31Speaker 10: things are very specific things a certain color or certain size,
- 22:34Speaker 10: et cetera, and you don't always find that. So one
- 22:38Speaker 10: while you're shop in stores, it's it's a very specific
- 22:42Speaker 10: item is not available. It's important to stay open and
- 22:46Speaker 10: explore alternatives and in bracelet flexibility in your search. And yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 10: that's that's important. And with creativity, if the items you
- 23:00Speaker 10: want or the child you want is not there, you
- 23:03Speaker 10: might find an explanation or something that is totally acceptable
- 23:08Speaker 10: or even better than what your child thought about. So
- 23:13Speaker 10: and also extremely important is to carve out quiet moments.
- 23:20Speaker 10: It's very very important to make time for yourself, a
- 23:25Speaker 10: short walk, meditation, reading your holiday story like The First
- 23:31Speaker 10: Night that's my book. Can know it's for your spirit.
- 23:34Speaker 10: But there are a lot of little things that you
- 23:37Speaker 10: can do, and it doesn't have to be normal. You
- 23:41Speaker 10: carve maybe a few minutes here or an hour there,
- 23:45Speaker 10: or short walk to do, a short walk or something
- 23:49Speaker 10: that you that you want to do. Is you do
- 23:52Speaker 10: you not have responsibility to you? Is you're just yourself
- 23:55Speaker 10: for a christ a short while, that's very very important.
- 23:59Speaker 10: So there's all these things are good emphasize for people
- 24:06Speaker 10: to do. And it's not only for Christmas the holidays,
- 24:10Speaker 10: but also anything big that you have to organize, any
- 24:14Speaker 10: mature event that you have to face. It's always good
- 24:19Speaker 10: to follow these, uh, you know, Disney guidelines.
- 24:24Speaker 3: We're talking with author Lilly and Fortune. The book is
- 24:27Speaker 3: entitled The Four Santas, and I'm presuming that you try
- 24:30Speaker 3: as best you can to do these things in your
- 24:33Speaker 3: life too.
- 24:33Speaker 10: Right, Yes, I do. I have to admit sometimes it's oops,
- 24:39Speaker 10: I have to remember to do it myself. But but
- 24:42Speaker 10: it does felt that i'd be quite organized that it's
- 24:45Speaker 10: one of the girls I have learned to do that
- 24:48Speaker 10: and it makes such a big difference to be to
- 24:51Speaker 10: follow these guidelines. Yeah, I'm doing that muchself.
- 24:58Speaker 3: You try it, try it as best you can. Yeah. Anyway,
- 25:00Speaker 3: the book is called The for Santas and you could
- 25:02Speaker 3: check it out for yourself at for Santa's Book dot com.
- 25:05Speaker 3: That's for Santas Book dot com. Lily Ed, it's been

- 25:19Speaker 10: Thank you very much.
- 25:22Speaker 3: All right, thank you very much. It is twenty twenty
- 25:26Speaker 3: eight minutes now before the hour ten cos. Yeah, I
- 25:28Speaker 3: think that's you know, good advice this time of year.
- 25:30Speaker 3: It's just just just slow down a little bit and
- 25:33Speaker 3: realize that you don't have to do everything at one time,
- 25:37Speaker 3: you know, and it only comes around once a year,
- 25:40Speaker 3: although it seems like it just never ends because now
- 25:42Speaker 3: we start celebrating Christmas and whatnot, you know, in September.

- 26:44Speaker 3: told you from yesterday's show, we had a major breaking

- 30:55Speaker 4: I think it's so important to us at Capital Market

- 31:02Speaker 4: I think this is the time of year when everyone

- 31:07Speaker 4: uh no, I think it's it's a motivating force for

- 31:12Speaker 3: And you got a lot of stuff going on over there. Yeah,

- 32:56Speaker 4: community and it's just you know, this is one more
- 32:59Speaker 4: opportunity for us to highlight them. Johnny's, Christina and Philip
- 33:03Speaker 4: and making brats all weekend.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Very excited for them. I mean there's so much going
- 33:10Speaker 3: on over there year round, but especially now. I mean,
- 33:13Speaker 3: this is kind of like, you know, I mean it's
- 33:15Speaker 3: there's always exciting stuff at Capital Market, but this is
- 33:17Speaker 3: really your season, you know, and so many different things
- 33:21Speaker 3: going on there.
- 33:22Speaker 4: I mean, at risk of you know, saying that every
- 33:25Speaker 4: season is my favorite, it's well and it's different. You know,
- 33:30Speaker 4: come through the spring and summer, so much of our
- 33:33Speaker 4: focus shifts towards, you know, supporting West Virginia farmers and
- 33:38Speaker 4: the agriculture community here in our state, and so as
- 33:42Speaker 4: we get into the winter months, we look to see
- 33:46Speaker 4: what they do with that product and how they turn
- 33:48Speaker 4: it into things that have obviously a longer shelf life, and.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Some of the.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Creative ways in which you can think about things that.
- 33:59Speaker 3: You never would have thought of.
- 34:01Speaker 4: And it's it's it's a it's a whole lot of
- 34:07Speaker 4: fun right now. I just you know, I get I
- 34:10Speaker 4: get passionate, I get worked up about it. But uh,
- 34:13Speaker 4: I think also, you know, again, as we kind of
- 34:16Speaker 4: reflect back on on the year, it's just it fills
- 34:19Speaker 4: me with gratitude. I'm extremely grateful to get to do
- 34:21Speaker 4: what I do, to work with the folks that I
- 34:24Speaker 4: do from our board of directors, our staff.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Uh they uh.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Sometimes maybe roll their eyes at some of the some
- 34:34Speaker 4: of the ideas.
- 34:35Speaker 3: But that's what you do to bosses, you know, That's
- 34:38Speaker 3: what you do.
- 34:38Speaker 4: And uh, you know, I I'm just so grateful that
- 34:42Speaker 4: there they're trust, that they'll put that trust in us
- 34:44Speaker 4: to to be able to try things like Holiday Village.
- 34:48Speaker 4: You know, this is only the second year that we've
- 34:49Speaker 4: done it. How do we build upon it? How do
- 34:51Speaker 4: we make it better? What what can we do that
- 34:54Speaker 4: you know isn't holly jolly Brawley or late the night?
- 34:57Speaker 4: How can we put a unique capital market spend on
- 35:00Speaker 4: on the things that really make the market.
- 35:04Speaker 3: And one of the great things too is I mean,
- 35:06Speaker 3: no matter what you again we're talking with Evan Osborne
- 35:08Speaker 3: from Capital Market, it wouldn't matter what you programming that
- 35:11Speaker 3: you put in there at the public didn't support it
- 35:14Speaker 3: and didn't come out for it, it's all wasted exactly.
- 35:17Speaker 3: And when I was over there, like I said, I
- 35:19Speaker 3: was over there twice this week and I noticed, you know,
- 35:22Speaker 3: it was how crowded it was around lunchtime. Then I
- 35:24Speaker 3: go on social media and I see the pictures that
- 35:27Speaker 3: you've got posted of all these different events at night.
- 35:29Speaker 3: I mean some of those things are like standing room
- 35:31Speaker 3: only over there. And it just goes to show you
- 35:34Speaker 3: how much the whole concept of Capital Market has and
- 35:37Speaker 3: the people of the Kanawh Valley and other places have
- 35:40Speaker 3: have just totally embraced this. And and I will tell
- 35:44Speaker 3: you that anytime that people come in from out of town,
- 35:49Speaker 3: if you talk, if they talk to the staff at
- 35:50Speaker 3: the hotel, they talked to the Uber driver, whatever, they say, Well,
- 35:53Speaker 3: what do I need I'm in town for business, I've
- 35:55Speaker 3: got some time to kill. What do I need to see?
- 35:57Speaker 3: In Charleston. Numero Uno is capital Market.
- 36:01Speaker 4: And I think you hit the nail on the head.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Where we do house the visitor center for the for
- 36:08Speaker 4: the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau, we're an opportunity to
- 36:14Speaker 4: set the tone for for people's first experience to the
- 36:16Speaker 4: capital city.
- 36:17Speaker 3: And we don't take that lightly.
- 36:18Speaker 4: We want to make sure that you know one they're
- 36:23Speaker 4: they're seeing all that we have to offer just from
- 36:27Speaker 4: the people that you know. And I think that's one
- 36:29Speaker 4: of the things about the market.
- 36:30Speaker 3: It's the people.
- 36:31Speaker 4: It's Keniche at the wine shop, it's mister Harrison, so
- 36:34Speaker 4: it's Sarah Purple Onion, Christina Johnny's just these are very
- 36:40Speaker 4: much family and they they extend that warmth and that
- 36:45Speaker 4: welcomeness to two folks that have never been And I
- 36:49Speaker 4: think that, you know, if we can put that experience
- 36:54Speaker 4: and people, they'll they'll come back, they'll come back, they'll
- 36:56Speaker 4: spend those dollars, and it's, uh, it's not something that
- 37:02Speaker 4: that you necessarily associate with repeat visits to town, but
- 37:10Speaker 4: it's the thing that they're going to remember when they
- 37:14Speaker 4: go home and then think about when where they want
- 37:16Speaker 4: to come back and visit. And so we try to
- 37:18Speaker 4: keep that top of mind all the time.
- 37:19Speaker 3: Tex says, Evan is a real life Santa Claus. And
- 37:22Speaker 3: Capital Market and all its workers are like North Pole
- 37:24Speaker 3: and its elves. You're a real life Santa Claus. Somebody
- 37:28Speaker 3: the other.
- 37:28Speaker 4: Night mentioned that I might be slowly actually morphing into
- 37:32Speaker 4: Santa Claus. I see the slow creep of white into the.
- 37:35Speaker 3: It happens, happens, are the best of it. So Dave

- 38:02Speaker 3: we're going to get back to a holiday village here
- 38:04Speaker 3: in a couple of moments. But I got to ask
- 38:05Speaker 3: you now. Earlier this week, I see that Margaret and
- 38:10Speaker 3: the folks at the United Way of their air Central
- 38:13Speaker 3: West Virginia have a downstairs of coming lineup for Dancing
- 38:16Speaker 3: with the Stars, And I noticed, Evan, that you are
- 38:23Speaker 3: going to be one of the dancers in this and
- 38:26Speaker 3: your partner you kind of referenced her earlier. Your partner
- 38:30Speaker 3: is Morgan Morrison of Rock City. Do you know how
- 38:34Speaker 3: to dance at all?
- 38:35Speaker 4: Well, those that have known me, like you for a
- 38:39Speaker 4: fairly long time, really know that dancing is a passion
- 38:41Speaker 4: of mine. It's something that I've done.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Now you mean serious, No, Okay, I thought, so that's
- 38:46Speaker 3: one of the things. No, it's so you can get
- 38:51Speaker 3: by with that because right now we don't have the
- 38:52Speaker 3: TV cameras in here. But come first of the year
- 38:55Speaker 3: when this, when this show and other shows, when everything
- 38:58Speaker 3: is on the television. But people can see that you're
- 39:01Speaker 3: full of crap.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Well, I tell you what, once once we get into
- 39:06Speaker 4: the new year, and Morgan and I really begin, you know,
- 39:10Speaker 4: refining our craft.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Okay, we'll we'll come back. We'll give you a little
- 39:15Speaker 3: all right, all right right here in this and.
- 39:17Speaker 4: The But but I think also too, you know, one, no,
- 39:20Speaker 4: I am not a dancer. I am very much putty
- 39:26Speaker 4: in in Morgan's hands, so to speak. I'm gonna follow
- 39:29Speaker 4: her creative vision and trust that that she knows how
- 39:32Speaker 4: to execute this. She's just a powerhouse and in town
- 39:36Speaker 4: and you know, from Holly Jolly Browbly to the work
- 39:38Speaker 4: she does at Rock City. Just I'm grateful to have
- 39:42Speaker 4: to have her uh as as my wingman for this.
- 39:45Speaker 4: And uh you know, really I think too, I don't
- 39:48Speaker 4: want any of this to get lost in the shuffle.
- 39:50Speaker 4: Is that, you know, I see day in day out,
- 39:52Speaker 4: the fantastic work that united Way at Central West Virginia
- 39:55Speaker 4: does in our community. And anytime we have the opportunity
- 39:58Speaker 4: to give back to an organization that gives some much
- 40:00Speaker 4: to us, I think it makes it much easier to
- 40:03Speaker 4: say yes, uh, than than otherwise. I think I would
- 40:07Speaker 4: have probably been happy to donate, but not necessarily dance.
- 40:12Speaker 3: And I will tell you I have known Morgan Morrison
- 40:15Speaker 3: longer than anybody in Charleston has as we are from
- 40:18Speaker 3: the same place. And uh, she's she's an l a girl,
- 40:22Speaker 3: but but she's done pretty well for herself here in Charleston.
- 40:24Speaker 3: And it's going to be interesting to see. But uh,
- 40:26Speaker 3: how you guys kind of gel together in this thing?
- 40:29Speaker 3: And we'll have you on. And by the way, last
- 40:31Speaker 3: year I had a couple of the teams on. I
- 40:33Speaker 3: had people, So why did you have all the teams? Well,
- 40:34Speaker 3: they didn't ask, So any of the teams out there
- 40:37Speaker 3: that want to come on, all you had to do is
- 40:38Speaker 3: reach out to me, and I'll have you in because
- 40:40Speaker 3: it's all about you know, raising money and so on
- 40:41Speaker 3: and so forth. So we're looking forward to seeing how
- 40:44Speaker 3: you and Morgan will gel together in your in your
- 40:46Speaker 3: your dance, your dance duo. Uh. Another text here for you.
- 40:51Speaker 3: And and I'm going to presume this person knows you
- 40:53Speaker 3: pretty well, says Chris Kringle. Was a redhead in the
- 40:55Speaker 3: Christmas classic Santa Claus was Coming to town. You are
- 40:57Speaker 3: also a redhead. So maybe this you know, this text
- 41:01Speaker 3: is thinking that maybe they'll give you some divine inspiration
- 41:04Speaker 3: for something. Let's again talk about Holiday Village.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Go ahead right again this weekends. The last weekend for
- 41:10Speaker 4: Holiday Village at Capital Market starts this evening, runs from
- 41:13Speaker 4: six to nine pm. Fantastic lineup highlighting all of our
- 41:17Speaker 4: food vendors inside and out. Indoor market is also open
- 41:21Speaker 4: till nine pm. Fantastic programming, live music, plenty of stuff
- 41:25Speaker 4: for the kids. Come join us, make it a strong
- 41:31Speaker 4: push into into the new year. I'm just again fantastically
- 41:35Speaker 4: grateful for all the support in our community. Thank you
- 41:37Speaker 4: all so much. Come come celebrate with us, all right.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Evin Osborn, Capital Market. I appreciate you being here.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Man.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Now you gotta get out here and get get practice.
- 41:44Speaker 3: And once you get through the Christmas season, absolutely you
- 41:46Speaker 3: had you got a mirror ball to win for sure.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Evan Osborn for Capital Market. Coming up on Monday show,
- 41:51Speaker 3: We're going to continue some of the Christmas Talk with
- 41:52Speaker 3: a gentleman named Justin Knapp with the group Bridging Resources
- 41:55Speaker 3: West Virginia. Interesting work he and his group are doing.
- 41:58Speaker 3: We'll talk to him about that on the Monday Show.
- 42:00Speaker 3: And somebody asked me the other day about the show
- 42:03Speaker 3: that I do generally around it depends on how the
- 42:06Speaker 3: calendar falls, but around the day before Christmas Eve or
- 42:09Speaker 3: on Christmas Eve when I bring in Mike Pushkin and
- 42:11Speaker 3: we call it, I forget the gigantic Jewish Christmas Spectacular
- 42:18Speaker 3: is what we call it. And somebody asked me the
- 42:20Speaker 3: other day, am I going to bring Pushkin in? That's
- 42:22Speaker 3: today when we do not talk politics at all, I
- 42:25Speaker 3: bring Pushkin in with his guitar. Our good friend Rich
- 42:28Speaker 3: Lindsay and his law firm are always very good about
- 42:31Speaker 3: sponsoring that. So I'm going to go ahead and tell you,
- 42:34Speaker 3: mister Osborne that it is going to be on Christmas Eve.
- 42:37Speaker 3: It's going to be on the twenty fourth. So if
- 42:39Speaker 3: you are around and about and you want to and
- 42:41Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on in the Capitol market
- 42:43Speaker 3: on the day of Christmas Eve, but if you have
- 42:45Speaker 3: an opportunity, you are more than welcome to come in
- 42:47Speaker 3: because it's kind of like an open house here for Christmas.
- 42:50Speaker 3: And I bring, as I said, Pushkin and his guitar.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Last year, I think we had Kate boytech on the show.
- 42:54Speaker 3: So whoever wants to come in can come in. I'll
- 42:57Speaker 3: bring the food, food. What do we have it. It's
- 43:01Speaker 3: a surprise, suddenly, Matt Murphy across the hall set. I'm
- 43:04Speaker 3: producing that day. I'm producing that day. All right, Evan,
- 43:06Speaker 3: I appreciate it. But you're invited to come back on
- 43:08Speaker 3: the twenty four. Thanks a lot. Always a pleasure, all right, man.
- 43:10Speaker 3: We'll go to take a break. We'll be back after this.
- 43:12Speaker 3: I'm the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

- 46:11Speaker 3: What I like to do, you know, weekly and Coop
- 46:13Speaker 3: do this thing on hotline that they call the follow
- 46:15Speaker 3: up fileers some things that they didn't get to. And yesterday,
- 46:19Speaker 3: as I said, when we were talking about this horrific,
- 46:22Speaker 3: this bizarre story out of the Eastern Panhand, when I
- 46:25Speaker 3: had a million nicely on and TJ. Meadows to talk about,
- 46:28Speaker 3: where the delegate up there, Joe DeSoto, well, the delegate
- 46:31Speaker 3: elect I suppose, was threatening to kill other House of
- 46:35Speaker 3: Delegates members. He remains allegedly he remains in jail at
- 46:39Speaker 3: this time. But it seem the more people wanted to
- 46:42Speaker 3: talk about the rich Rodrika situation, and so I didn't
- 46:45Speaker 3: get to all the texts yesterday. So I'm going to
- 46:48Speaker 3: try to get to some of those texts today, because
- 46:49Speaker 3: I like to try to get to as many texts
- 46:51Speaker 3: as possible, even if they're, you know, twenty four hours old. Now,
- 46:54Speaker 3: this text from yesterday did not have to do with
- 46:57Speaker 3: that situation though, but it had to do was response
- 46:59Speaker 3: to another textas says Hey Dave to the texture winding
- 47:03Speaker 3: about January six ers and calling Republicans and moral newsflash,
- 47:06Speaker 3: the election was a blowout. Republican president, Republican majority Senate,
- 47:10Speaker 3: and Republican majority House. Our country has spoken and have
- 47:13Speaker 3: said the Democrats as a whole have become morally bankrop
- 47:17Speaker 3: says a text we were talking about with a million
- 47:22Speaker 3: iicley yesterday. I was talking about the problems with discipline
- 47:26Speaker 3: and our school system, and especially when it comes to
- 47:29Speaker 3: elementary kids. This is not high schoolers. I mean, I'm
- 47:33Speaker 3: not saying there's not problems here too, but this is
- 47:35Speaker 3: elementary school kids. And you recall in the legislature during
- 47:38Speaker 3: interims this week that there was some testimony featuring some teachers,
- 47:44Speaker 3: principles of other school personnel about the problems that they face,
- 47:47Speaker 3: and we kind of got into that yesterday. This text
- 47:49Speaker 3: has to go along with that, says Dave called it awful,
- 47:52Speaker 3: But the truth is that back in the seventies and eighties,
- 47:54Speaker 3: kids were not as out of control or tried to
- 47:57Speaker 3: hurt or kill family, teachers, or classmates as they are now.
- 48:00Speaker 3: The difference parents and teachers were allowed and encouraged to
- 48:04Speaker 3: spank kids when they deserve it. It taught respect, says
- 48:08Speaker 3: a texture. The only thing that I would say about that,
- 48:12Speaker 3: And again, this is where I disagree with you know
- 48:14Speaker 3: a lot of a lot of people, and that's okay.
- 48:17Speaker 3: I am one hundred percent for corporal punishment, one hundred
- 48:21Speaker 3: percent for it, okay, but it depends on the situation.
- 48:25Speaker 3: And these kids that we heard about during these uh
- 48:30Speaker 3: these testimonies during the interims this week, I don't know
- 48:35Speaker 3: that this is going to help them because these are
- 48:37Speaker 3: this is a different realm. This is not again, this
- 48:39Speaker 3: is not kids that are chewing gum in class. Okay.
- 48:42Speaker 3: This is not kids that are talking disrupting classes. Believe
- 48:45Speaker 3: it or not, I used to do. I know you
- 48:47Speaker 3: find that shocking, but these are these are kids that
- 48:50Speaker 3: are doing a lot of bad stuff. So I don't
- 48:51Speaker 3: know that it would necessarily work in all cads. And
- 48:54Speaker 3: that's what this texture says. Beating kids at school will
- 48:57Speaker 3: only increase increase rather school shooting, says a Texture Midave Island,

- 49:20Speaker 3: the best, but Marshall fans will turn on him like
- 49:23Speaker 3: they did Doc due to his WVU ties, says a Texter.
- 49:28Speaker 3: Talking about Capital Market, text says Capital Market features West
- 49:31Speaker 3: Virginia made gifts and has a great book selection of
- 49:33Speaker 3: West Virginia authors. I would agree on that, text, says Dave.
- 49:38Speaker 3: I would not be spending a dime on Mountaineer merchandise
- 49:41Speaker 3: or going to the games in the future. By hiring
- 49:44Speaker 3: rich rod Back. The university has proven that they don't

- 49:53Speaker 3: Heck no to Rod Tech says the rich rod Hire
- 49:59Speaker 3: just shows where we are as a society. This is
- 50:02Speaker 3: a man that quit on his team and the WU
- 50:04Speaker 3: fans to go to Michigan only to be proven that
- 50:06Speaker 3: he isn't a good coach. Now he's being brought back

- 51:59Speaker 3: hard to believe that the state that overwhelmingly voted Donald
- 52:02Speaker 3: Trump into a second term would take exception to the
- 52:04Speaker 3: moral capacity of rich Roth. Texas David's sad that people
