- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Disgraceland. The after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing that we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:36Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:41Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this episode, we are talking about,
- 0:44Speaker 1: among other things, do Suckcliffe It's right, the Fifth Beatle,
- 0:48Speaker 1: also Pantera, Dimebag, Daryl, and of course your voicemails, text,
- 0:53Speaker 1: dms and more, as well as a whole lot of Rosie.
- 0:57Speaker 1: All right, Discos, Let's.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Get it done.
- 1:10Speaker 1: This week in Disgraceland, Part nine, number nine, Number nine,
- 1:15Speaker 1: Number nine, number nine, if you can believe it, Number nine,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Episode nine in our ongoing Beatles saga, this one featuring
- 1:22Speaker 1: original member Stu Suckcliffe as our lead. This follows let's
- 1:27Speaker 1: see two episodes on the Beatles themselves where we cover
- 1:31Speaker 1: these sort of if you're looking at the member of the
- 1:33Speaker 1: Beatles anthology, they did the Blue One and the red
- 1:35Speaker 1: one and one was the early years, which I think
- 1:37Speaker 1: was the red one, and the blue one was the
- 1:39Speaker 1: later years, and they're standing on that balcony looking down.
- 1:43Speaker 1: One photo is from early in their career with the
- 1:46Speaker 1: mop tops. Well that's the first episode of that Beatles
- 1:50Speaker 1: Part two that I'm talking about in the second is
- 1:53Speaker 1: the photo where they're looking down in the same photo,
- 1:55Speaker 1: same place, but it's about four or five years later,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and they got the long hair and the and they're
- 2:00Speaker 1: all hippied out, And that's really the second episode. That's
- 2:03Speaker 1: the framing there that we did with those two Beatles episodes.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Then we did We've done three episodes on John Lennon alone.
- 2:10Speaker 1: We did two on his what was his assassination, and
- 2:14Speaker 1: then we did one on sort of the lost seventies
- 2:17Speaker 1: years there for John. We did one on Paul, we
- 2:21Speaker 1: did one on George, we did one on Ringo. So yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 1: that checks out. That's eight and Stu Suckcliffe here makes
- 2:28Speaker 1: nine and we have a great idea for a tenth
- 2:31Speaker 1: episode as well. There's just so much material here with
- 2:34Speaker 1: the Beatles, and I'm endlessly fascinated by them, and I
- 2:38Speaker 1: can tell you guys are as well. There's been a
- 2:39Speaker 1: lot of excitement about even the Stu Suckcliffe episode, which
- 2:42Speaker 1: I did not anticipate. Stu Suckcliffe, of course, was a
- 2:46Speaker 1: huge part of the Beatles history. The Beatles would not
- 2:48Speaker 1: be who they became if it were not for Stu
- 2:51Speaker 1: Suckcliffe in this era, that's the Stu Stuckcliffe era, the
- 2:55Speaker 1: early years in Hamburg and Germany. It's a very interesting time.
- 2:59Speaker 1: We covered some of it in that that part two
- 3:01Speaker 1: Beatles run that we did that I was just talking
- 3:03Speaker 1: about the early days, but we get into it a
- 3:06Speaker 1: lot more deeply here with Stu Suckcliffe. Just the raunchiness,
- 3:10Speaker 1: the debauchery, the deprevity, the violence, the gangs. Uh this
- 3:14Speaker 1: deportation involved Paul McCartney gets attacked on stage by a
- 3:20Speaker 1: fellow Beatle. There's all kinds of stuff happening in this
- 3:22Speaker 1: and Stu Suckcliffe is at the center of it all
- 3:24Speaker 1: and more more specifically, Stu Suckcliffe's cool is at the
- 3:28Speaker 1: center his attitude. That was very formative to the Beatles and,
- 3:31Speaker 1: like I said, to what they became. So I'm going
- 3:36Speaker 1: to ask, you know, do you want more Beatles episodes?
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm sure, I'm sure a lot of you are like,
- 3:39Speaker 1: come on, do nine, where's that Replacements episode? Where's where's
- 3:42Speaker 1: that where's that Link Ray episode? You know, we're not
- 3:46Speaker 1: going to do a Beatles that for a while, Okay,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but we do. We are going to do a part ten.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Perhaps I don't want to give it away, but it
- 3:51Speaker 1: might be on Brian Epstein, It might be on Pete Best,
- 3:54Speaker 1: might be on George Martin, might be might might even
- 3:56Speaker 1: maybe we can get one out on Billy Preston. Okay,
- 3:58Speaker 1: how's that Billy Preston the fifth Beatle for a while
- 4:01Speaker 1: as well. I think that's a stretch. I don't think
- 4:02Speaker 1: we can title a Billy Preston episode a Beatles episode,
- 4:07Speaker 1: or maybe we can't. Maybe we just center it around
- 4:08Speaker 1: the years he was making music with the Beatles. Let
- 4:12Speaker 1: me know what you think of this new two cycle
- 4:13Speaker 1: of episode six one seven nine oh six six six
- 4:16Speaker 1: three eight, And let me know what your favorite era
- 4:19Speaker 1: Beatles is for you? What do you prefer which album?
- 4:24Speaker 1: What are you listening to right now? For me, I
- 4:26Speaker 1: love it all, like I'm sure all of you do.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And I go through phases. I go through heavy phases
- 4:30Speaker 1: of like all right, I'm just into these years of
- 4:32Speaker 1: the Beatles when they were transitioning from mop top to
- 4:35Speaker 1: the sort of drug era, or I'm just into you know,
- 4:39Speaker 1: my son right now is super into the White album,
- 4:41Speaker 1: so that's playing in the house constantly, and of course
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm pulled back into that. What's your favorite Beatles era,
- 4:47Speaker 1: favorite Beatles albums, favorite Beatle hit me? I want to know?
- 4:50Speaker 1: All right? Did some George Harrison stuff over on Instagram
- 4:55Speaker 1: and TikTok this week, got into got into his home invasion,
- 4:58Speaker 1: which we covered in the episode on George harrih. But
- 5:00Speaker 1: we did a little video on that that was fun.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Also got into the formation of the Traveling Wilbury's. You
- 5:04Speaker 1: can find all that at Disgraceland pod on Instagram and TikTok.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And we're releasing more videos every single day, more and more,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I should say, every single day. Additionally, this week in
- 5:15Speaker 1: our rewind episode on Friday, we'll get this episode. We're
- 5:18Speaker 1: re releasing the Pantera episode, which is really a Dinebag
- 5:21Speaker 1: Daryl episode. If you guys have not heard this, or
- 5:23Speaker 1: if you're just like I don't know who the hell
- 5:24Speaker 1: Dinebag Daryl is, why do I care? You need to
- 5:27Speaker 1: listen to this episode. It's one of my favorites. It's
- 5:30Speaker 1: some of my favorite writing that I've done for Disgraceland.
- 5:35Speaker 1: In the way that we scored this episode and the
- 5:37Speaker 1: way that we lead up to the tragedy that takes place,
- 5:41Speaker 1: that is the climax of this episode. It's it's all,
- 5:45Speaker 1: it's something and I can't wait for you to hear
- 5:48Speaker 1: it if you have not heard it. Of course, dinebag
- 5:50Speaker 1: Daryl Abbott was gunned down on stage when he was
- 5:55Speaker 1: in his band Damage Plan, which was just after Pantera.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But the band Panta, their music anyway, plays a role
- 6:01Speaker 1: in this episode. You're gonna want to check that out.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I'll talk about it later here in this bonus episode
- 6:05Speaker 1: as well. Six one seven nine oh six, six six
- 6:08Speaker 1: three eight, Hit with your voicemails, hit me with your text,
- 6:11Speaker 1: disgracelam pod on the socials, and of course disgracelanpod at
- 6:17Speaker 1: gmail dot com on email. And let's check out this
- 6:21Speaker 1: email from Joe Schrader, subject episode suggestion from the seven
- 6:26Speaker 1: to sixty five. Hey love your show. Every time I
- 6:29Speaker 1: tell Alexa to play bad Lands podcast, I get the
- 6:32Speaker 1: first few bars of the Springsteen Classics. So I'm glad
- 6:35Speaker 1: you're combining the two shows. My suggestion is to do
- 6:39Speaker 1: a dive on the Quaid brothers. Dennis seems pretty legit,
- 6:42Speaker 1: but Randy is way out there. Hope to hear it someday.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Thanks for entertaining me while I work, Joe, You got it, Joe,
- 6:50Speaker 1: what do you do for work? Joe? Let me know. Hey,
- 6:53Speaker 1: that's a good idea I've heard. I've heard some stories
- 6:56Speaker 1: about Randy Quaid. I don't know much about it, but
- 7:01Speaker 1: I will look into it. I like that kind of
- 7:02Speaker 1: off the beaten path suggestion. This one comes from another
- 7:06Speaker 1: Joe Trotter, who writes in Hey, this is the subject, Hey, Bono,
- 7:11Speaker 1: Michael Hudgens, and song tributes for dead people all in one.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Hey.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Jake wrote to you long ago about your brilliant episodes.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Was catching up during some snow days and caught the
- 7:20Speaker 1: episodes on YouTube. Michael Hutchins and Blondie. I also heard
- 7:24Speaker 1: you asking about song tributes to dead artists, and I'm
- 7:27Speaker 1: sure you know that Bono and Hutchins were close. Before
- 7:29Speaker 1: he died, Michael had worked on a solo album, but
- 7:32Speaker 1: it was not done. Bono was given one of the
- 7:34Speaker 1: songs and he finished it. He sang with Hutchins' original vocals.
- 7:37Speaker 1: He's basically singing to Michael in it. It is called
- 7:40Speaker 1: slide away. So give that a listen, all right, I will.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I did not know that. I did not know that
- 7:45Speaker 1: at all. That's from Joe in the eight five nine
- 7:48Speaker 1: Great email. Appreciate that. Gonna look into it. This one
- 7:51Speaker 1: comes from Clay Strider and the subject is Sharon Stone
- 7:55Speaker 1: episode and it's and it says, I this shit all.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I get this shit wrong all the time. Okay, but
- 8:02Speaker 1: I'm blaming Zeth who wrote this episode. This one from
- 8:06Speaker 1: Clay says, hey, man, I love your shows. I hate
- 8:09Speaker 1: to be that guy. And if you had already heard
- 8:11Speaker 1: from other gun nuts, but a glock twenty two is
- 8:14Speaker 1: a forty caliber pistol with no external safety. Also, it
- 8:17Speaker 1: is a striker fired weapon without a hammer that you
- 8:19Speaker 1: would cock. Seriously, I love your show. This just kind
- 8:22Speaker 1: of took me out of the moment for a bit.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Forgive the pedantary pedantreie like I think your great piece
- 8:28Speaker 1: in rock and roll, Clay, Clay, I apologize you're speaking
- 8:32Speaker 1: Greek to me.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Man.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I don't own guns. I don't know much about guns.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I fired a gun before. It's a lot of fun,
- 8:38Speaker 1: but I don't know much about you know what I'm
- 8:40Speaker 1: talking about, so I didn't write this one. Zeth did
- 8:42Speaker 1: Zeth and throwing you under the bus in public. I'm
- 8:45Speaker 1: not sure if you understood what I just read there
- 8:47Speaker 1: from Clay, but if you did, you know, we'll go back,
- 8:49Speaker 1: we'll fix that, We'll try to do better next time.
- 8:51Speaker 1: This one comes from Lee Stevens and it says, Hey,
- 8:54Speaker 1: Jake and team. It's a message from the other side
- 8:57Speaker 1: of the pond of the South coast of England. Having
- 9:00Speaker 1: now caught up with all the episodes mild laps during
- 9:03Speaker 1: the Amazon exclusive years, I can now give you my
- 9:06Speaker 1: thoughts on artists that you may want to cover, and
- 9:08Speaker 1: as you are combining your lands, i'll give you both here.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Ian Durry from Ian Dury and the Blockheads fame died
- 9:14Speaker 1: in the year two thousand from cancer, but a fascinating
- 9:16Speaker 1: life punctuated by childhood polio trailblazing the nascent pub rock
- 9:20Speaker 1: scene in the mid seventies to hitting the top of
- 9:22Speaker 1: the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Very familiar
- 9:26Speaker 1: with Ian. Yeah, that's a good idea. Lastly, the other
- 9:30Speaker 1: suggestion John Landis, not for the Blues Brothers, not for thriller,
- 9:34Speaker 1: but for the Twilight Zone movie Dodgy as Fuck, an
- 9:37Speaker 1: incident that ended up with two dead children. Wow, I
- 9:40Speaker 1: didn't know this violation of labor laws and found not guilty.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Damn did not know that. I saw John Landis recently
- 9:48Speaker 1: in that Michael Jackson documentary on Showtime, and he's really compelling.
- 9:52Speaker 1: He's a really interesting guy to see and hear be interviewed.
- 9:57Speaker 1: So maybe I'll look into that. I don't like that
- 10:00Speaker 1: movie Twilight Zone. I find it hard to get through,
- 10:03Speaker 1: but I appreciate the email here Lee, we will check
- 10:06Speaker 1: it out. All right, Guys, Disgrace Lampod at gmail dot com.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Hit me with your emails on anything, anything you want
- 10:12Speaker 1: to talk about. I love talking about the episodes themselves,
- 10:15Speaker 1: things you've heard, things you've listened to, things you want
- 10:17Speaker 1: to hear. So as always, get at me, Disgrace Lampod
- 10:20Speaker 1: at gmail dot com. You can call me six one
- 10:23Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six sixty three eight, leave a
- 10:25Speaker 1: voicemail or send me a text. Take a quick break
- 10:27Speaker 1: back on the other side with some of those voicemails
- 10:30Speaker 1: and texts. All right, we are back gonna do some
- 10:56Speaker 1: voicemails and texts here. I want to let you guys know,
- 10:59Speaker 1: releaseeing a lot more content these last few weeks over
- 11:03Speaker 1: on Instagram and TikTok at Disgrace lam Pod in both
- 11:06Speaker 1: places and on x also at Disgrace lamp Pod. These
- 11:11Speaker 1: little videos try my best to figure out how to
- 11:14Speaker 1: distill some of the more interesting topics that we cover here,
- 11:19Speaker 1: some of the more holy shit moments, some of the
- 11:21Speaker 1: tributes to the artists, some of the shocks, some of
- 11:23Speaker 1: the awe some of the horror, and the real short
- 11:26Speaker 1: form content for Instagram and TikTok in particular, and like
- 11:30Speaker 1: I said, we're releasing those with regularity, so go check
- 11:35Speaker 1: them out. If you're not following us on either platform,
- 11:37Speaker 1: get on over there. If you are following us and
- 11:41Speaker 1: we're not in your feed, check us out, give us
- 11:44Speaker 1: a like, give us, give us a comment something, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 1: get in our get in the algo, as they say,
- 11:49Speaker 1: get us in your algorithm. And I don't know do
- 11:52Speaker 1: they say get in the algo. I don't think they do.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I think I just said that, And you know you'll
- 11:56Speaker 1: you'll then start getting served the videos that we're releasing
- 11:58Speaker 1: over there and I'm having fun with it and it's
- 12:00Speaker 1: given me another venue to talk to you guys. So
- 12:02Speaker 1: that's great as well at disgrace landpodu and super active
- 12:05Speaker 1: over there on Instagram and on TikTok, So follow away.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Let's do some voicemails and some texts. All right, let's
- 12:13Speaker 1: check out this voicemail from the three four.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Hey, Jake, this is April and I'm just finished listening
- 12:20Speaker 4: to your episode of Disgraceland about Sean Colmes, and I
- 12:25Speaker 4: love learning about P Diddy having to pay sting and
- 12:28Speaker 4: that's why I think that you need to cover Metallica now,
- 12:32Speaker 4: hear me out.
- 12:32Speaker 5: I know a lot of people have covered.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Them, but I'm gen X or old, and I know
- 12:37Speaker 4: that Stranger Things has brought them a new generation of fans.
- 12:42Speaker 5: And the Lars versus Napster situation needs to be properly
- 12:46Speaker 5: explained to them, because whether or not do like Lars
- 12:49Speaker 5: or Metallica, someone would have had to say, hey, pay
- 12:52Speaker 5: us at some point anything. That's all I wanted to say.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Love all you do, have you have a great day.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Go bye, April.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Thank you for the voicemail. I really want to cover Metallica.
- 13:02Speaker 1: There's a couple of different ways in the you know,
- 13:05Speaker 1: the whole Lars Napster thing isn't isn't that interesting to me?
- 13:09Speaker 1: It really bummed me out when it was happening. I
- 13:12Speaker 1: think even if you asked Metallica and Lars, they would
- 13:14Speaker 1: probably tell you the same thing. It was an unfortunate
- 13:17Speaker 1: It was just unfortunate for them to be at the
- 13:19Speaker 1: tip of that spere. That's all I'll say. And you know,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I don't know people spatting back and forth in court.
- 13:25Speaker 1: You know, It's just I don't know how interesting of
- 13:27Speaker 1: an episode that's going to make, but there are there's
- 13:30Speaker 1: you know, the Cliff Burton thing for sure. I think
- 13:32Speaker 1: that's a way into Metallica. I love Metallica, April, like you,
- 13:35Speaker 1: So that's gonna happen at some point. I've just I've
- 13:39Speaker 1: just been hesitant because I think because I like the
- 13:42Speaker 1: band so damn much, I want to make sure that
- 13:44Speaker 1: I have the exact right angle and lane into telling
- 13:47Speaker 1: their stories. So it will happen at some point. I
- 13:49Speaker 1: appreciate your voicemail, April, Uh, keep your ear out. We'll
- 13:52Speaker 1: get to Metallica soon enough. All right, let's check out
- 13:55Speaker 1: this voicemail from the four O seven.
- 13:57Speaker 6: Hey, Jake, this is Hal Shore alling from Longwood, Florida,
- 14:02Speaker 6: looking forward to the Icon series kickoff with Anthony Bourdain.
- 14:06Speaker 6: And in your email you asked about who we think
- 14:09Speaker 6: you should cover? How about Andy Kaufman? Talk about an icon?
- 14:15Speaker 6: That's my pick? Looking forward to the new genre, looking
- 14:20Speaker 6: forward to everything Disgraceland, bad Land, Sportsland and another question,
- 14:25Speaker 6: any any chance of Blood on the Tracks coming back?
- 14:30Speaker 6: Love you Jake later.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Hell, thanks, man, appreciate you. And yeah, man, we're psyched
- 14:36Speaker 1: to get Anthony Bourdain into your ears. And I love
- 14:40Speaker 1: your suggestion of Andy Kaufman. Just great, great, great suggestion.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Can't believe we didn't think about that, Zess. Make sure
- 14:48Speaker 1: make sure we note that that's we should cover Andy
- 14:50Speaker 1: this year if we can. As for Blood on the Tracks,
- 14:55Speaker 1: probably not coming back anytime soon, but we have something
- 14:59Speaker 1: similar that. Stephan. I fully inspired by Blood on the
- 15:02Speaker 1: Tracks and I think we're gonna start fucking with this year.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I'm not ready to talk about it yet, but something
- 15:08Speaker 1: something Blood on the Tracks ish Okay, thanks to the call.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Appreciate it. Six one seven nine oh six six six
- 15:14Speaker 1: three eight Get at me, guys. Leave me a voicemail,
- 15:16Speaker 1: send me a text. Let's do some text here. Three
- 15:19Speaker 1: ye oh one writes in, Hey Jake, how about doing
- 15:23Speaker 1: an episode on Trey Songs? He was a bigger ARMB
- 15:25Speaker 1: singer in the two thousands, but we only hear about
- 15:27Speaker 1: him now when allegations are being made against him. Keep
- 15:29Speaker 1: up the good work. I don't know anything about Trey Songs,
- 15:32Speaker 1: but now I'm going to look into it, and I
- 15:34Speaker 1: appreciate that. Thanks for the text. So six one two
- 15:37Speaker 1: writes in Hey Jake, I found disgrace Land during season
- 15:39Speaker 1: one and I've been hooked ever since. My specific question
- 15:42Speaker 1: is regarding your crossover content on the Manson murders. I
- 15:45Speaker 1: fucking love the way you have presented it and opened
- 15:47Speaker 1: the door to very different motivations for the crime spree.
- 15:50Speaker 1: You mentioned. The book Chaos by Tom O'Neill is a
- 15:52Speaker 1: great source for much of this. I have a copy
- 15:55Speaker 1: arriving today. The question is do I need to read
- 15:57Speaker 1: the Buliosi book first to fully enjoy Chaos. We all
- 16:00Speaker 1: know the Helter Skelter story, and as a kid of
- 16:02Speaker 1: the seventies and eighties I'm fifty seven, the story and
- 16:05Speaker 1: the made for TV movie all were the stuff of
- 16:07Speaker 1: nightmares for me, but I am familiar with it by
- 16:09Speaker 1: mere repetition and reputation. Should I read Helter Skelter first?
- 16:12Speaker 1: Thanks JC John Christensen in the six' five to One
- 16:16Speaker 1: Saint Paul JOHN. Jc, yes Read Helter skelter as much
- 16:21Speaker 1: AS i THINK buliosi fucked. It Helter. Skelter even if
- 16:27Speaker 1: it is, fictional air, quotes, fictional half, fictional however you
- 16:31Speaker 1: want to define, it, embellished highly, Umbellished it's still a great.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Read it, is it's the it's THE i think it's
- 16:40Speaker 1: the biggest selling true crime book of all, time ahead
- 16:43Speaker 1: Of Truman capote's In Cold, blood and that's for a.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Reason it's a great fucking, Read so, YES i would read.
- 16:51Speaker 1: It plus it's just gonna make chaos that much more
- 16:54Speaker 1: enjoyable for you as. Well so, yes the answer is
- 16:57Speaker 1: is a, Yes, Yes, Yes And jac just gonna Say
- 17:00Speaker 1: welcome to the rabbit. Hole, Jake, Jake, Jake. Jake this
