- 0:38Speaker 1: The Sports of the Program brought to you by Central
- 0:40Speaker 1: Texas Sports Medicine. Coming up, we're going to hear from
- 0:44Speaker 1: Alabama basketball coach Nate Oates. We're going to hear from
- 0:47Speaker 1: mershawn ag Scotland. Dennan is here, Mallory is here. Big
- 0:52Speaker 1: ball game tonight in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Aggie's tied six o'clock
- 1:03Speaker 1: SEC Network. You can hear the broadcast on our partner
- 1:07Speaker 1: station sixteen to twenty wta W. Also tonight in the SEC,
- 1:16Speaker 1: Oklahoma is at Kentucky. Last night, Tennessee took down Ole,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Miss Texas beat South Carolina, and tonight Central Florida is
- 1:33Speaker 1: at number eight Houston in the Big Twelve, Number five
- 1:40Speaker 1: Illinois is hosting Northwestern BYU visits Oklahoma State. Gonzaga is
- 1:47Speaker 1: at Portland, Clemson, and Stanford. Those are some of the
- 1:51Speaker 1: games involving top twenty five teams now. Charles Bettiaco's attorney,
- 2:00Speaker 1: today followed a motion in Tuscaloosa requesting that his preliminary
- 2:06Speaker 1: injunction hearings scheduled for Friday, be postponed until February sixteenth.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Bidiaco's attorneys listed discovery questions for the NCAA they want answered.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Before the hearing.
- 2:21Speaker 1: They also listed players from other countries that have been
- 2:25Speaker 1: coming in playing college ball. One of those players, six
- 2:31Speaker 1: Shooter Rubin, was on the list. But I think you
- 2:36Speaker 1: see the strategy here. Delay delay, delay, season's over. We'll
- 2:44Speaker 1: see if that flies with some of the other judges
- 2:50Speaker 1: that they will go before. Bidiaco obviously will be in
- 2:53Speaker 1: the lineup tonight for the Tide against the Aggies.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Joe Lonardi bracketology.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Top seeds, Arizona, Michigan, Duke Yukon bracket games, Aggies need
- 3:13Speaker 1: a win to remain the SEC's solo leader. Weird he
- 3:18Speaker 1: knew that Wildcats being in Kentucky can move up another
- 3:22Speaker 1: seed line with a blowout win over Oklahoma. Texas is
- 3:29Speaker 1: still one of the last four teams in the tournament.
- 3:35Speaker 1: The number two seed line would be Illinois, Iowa State, Houston, Gonzaga,
- 3:43Speaker 1: Texas Tech listed as a four seed, Vanderbilt, and Florida
- 3:48Speaker 1: both four seeds. I suspect Florida is going to play
- 3:51Speaker 1: their way up on that. Leonardi has eleven Big ten
- 3:56Speaker 1: teams in the tournament, ten SEC teams, eight ACC teams,
- 4:04Speaker 1: seven Big twelve teams in the tournament, and yes, A
- 4:09Speaker 1: and M firmly in right now. Charlie Baker, who has
- 4:15Speaker 1: things like Pidiaco coming from professional ball to still play
- 4:21Speaker 1: in college, Apparently it's more focused on expanding the NCAA
- 4:26Speaker 1: basketball tournament, Baker telling Sports Illustrated it's a good question
- 4:33Speaker 1: whether the upcoming one will be the final one with
- 4:36Speaker 1: sixty eight teams. Baker says, we're currently working to see
- 4:40Speaker 1: if we can make it seventy two or seventy six. Hell, Charlie,
- 4:44Speaker 1: let's just put four thousand teams in there.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Why not?
- 4:48Speaker 1: I mean, this tournament has been such a flop over
- 4:52Speaker 1: the years. In its present condition, no one watches, no
- 4:56Speaker 1: one pays attention. We don't care about it. Let's just
- 5:01Speaker 1: add more, because we all know more is better. So Charlie,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you keep working on that. Keep your head in the
- 5:10Speaker 1: sand about everything else. Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar has been
- 5:15Speaker 1: granted a temporary restraining order in his lawsuit against the
- 5:20Speaker 1: NCAA because he wants another year in college. Man, I
- 5:25Speaker 1: want another year in college, especially if you're going to
- 5:27Speaker 1: pay me seven figures. The ruling granted today after Aguilar
- 5:31Speaker 1: filed suit in Knox County in Tennessee, right next door
- 5:37Speaker 1: to the university.
- 5:38Speaker 2: The restraining order.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Is in effect for fifteen days as Aguilar awaits an injunction.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Chancellor Christopher Haggerty's ruling stated that Aguilar quote has demonstrated
- 5:54Speaker 1: a substantial likelihood of success on the merits.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Of his claim. I don't know what that claim is.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Uh.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Mickey Lolich has died. One of the great lefties, certainly
- 6:12Speaker 1: in Tiger's history.
- 6:13Speaker 2: He was eighty five.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Lolich made three starts in the sixty eight World Series
- 6:20Speaker 1: against the Cardinals.
- 6:21Speaker 2: He threw three complete.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Games and out dual Bob Gibson on two days rest
- 6:30Speaker 1: in game seven. He finished the World Series with a
- 6:34Speaker 1: one sixty seven earn run average and by the way,
- 6:39Speaker 1: hit his only career home run in Game two. He
- 6:44Speaker 1: was named World Series MVP. From sixty seven to seventy two,
- 6:52Speaker 1: Lolich had a three to zho seven earned run average,
- 6:56Speaker 1: thirty seven starts and two hundred and eighty innings averaged
- 7:00Speaker 1: per year. Three time All Star finished second Divide A
- 7:05Speaker 1: Blue in the MVP voting in seventy one, third behind
- 7:10Speaker 1: Gaylord Perry and Wilbur Wood in seventy two, fifth in
- 7:14Speaker 1: the MVP in seventy one.
- 7:17Speaker 2: This guy.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Gave Detroit a banner in nineteen sixty seven, and what
- 7:27Speaker 1: our Olympics for starting. I don't know if you knew
- 7:29Speaker 1: that or not, but ongoing snowfall. Too much snow forced
- 7:36Speaker 1: organizers to cancel the opening women's downhill training session today,
- 7:42Speaker 1: which meant Lindsey Von didn't have to ski today. Seven
- 7:47Speaker 1: inches of snow falling on the course due to the
- 7:51Speaker 1: ongoing snowfall here what I said, too much snow for skiing.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Today was supposed to be the first of three training sessions,
- 8:02Speaker 1: two more Friday Saturday. The downhill is scheduled for Sunday.
- 8:08Speaker 1: At least one training session has to be held before
- 8:12Speaker 1: they race. Vought and her team were hoping for the
- 8:17Speaker 1: practice to be canceled after she suffered acl tear in
- 8:22Speaker 1: her left knee last week in Switzerland. She says she's
- 8:28Speaker 1: still going to compete, So there you go. Lindsey Vaughn
- 8:35Speaker 1: is forty one, which doesn't seem old, and to talk about,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you know, world class athletes, that seems old. Okay, enough
- 8:48Speaker 1: of that. We're gonna talk hoops, big game tonight. I
- 8:54Speaker 1: mentioned that we'll get to that after the final lap.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Brought to you by and Co Insurance.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Inco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 9:05Speaker 5: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While

- 9:27Speaker 5: co Insurance a Hub International company, So you're ready for tomorrow.
- 9:31Speaker 6: It's TexAgs Live, brought to you by David Garters Jewelers.
- 9:34Speaker 7: I talked about yesterday real quick, Yeah about your jury duty.
- 9:37Speaker 7: But they didn't eliminate anybody until three pm.
- 9:41Speaker 8: They told us within the first ten minutes.
- 9:43Speaker 7: Yeah, you'll probably be here till three or four Global.
- 9:45Speaker 7: And you know what the worst part of it is,
- 9:47Speaker 7: what's it? I don't get the credit for working, but
- 9:49Speaker 7: I worked yesterday. And here's my point. I still woke
- 9:52Speaker 7: up at four. I still prepped the show because I
- 9:54Speaker 7: didn't know when I was going to be here, right,
- 9:57Speaker 7: what I mean?
- 9:57Speaker 9: You don't get credit for working, and who's mine?
- 10:00Speaker 4: Mine?
- 10:00Speaker 10: Yesterday was a day off, it was a vacation, and in.
- 10:03Speaker 7: Fact, everybody in the back vacation.
- 10:06Speaker 11: I still woke up.
- 10:07Speaker 7: I still prepped the show just like if because I
- 10:09Speaker 7: didn't know I could be there for twenty minutes and
- 10:11Speaker 7: then i'd be here, So.
- 10:12Speaker 12: I don't get the benefit.
- 10:13Speaker 7: It's like when you tip somebody, but they don't see
- 10:15Speaker 7: you tip the jar, you know, in the jar, like
- 10:17Speaker 7: you gotta wait for them to make eye contact with
- 10:19Speaker 7: you and then you put it in.
- 10:21Speaker 9: So if you actually had contact with Billy about no,
- 10:24Speaker 9: I would love to see Billy Luci on a jury.
- 10:27Speaker 7: I don't think you're supposed to be on your phone
- 10:28Speaker 7: when you're injury.
- 10:31Speaker 6: Tachags live weekdays from eight to eleven on the Zone.
- 10:44Speaker 13: Shotgune willis it's around and it's on nowhere, fighting on
- 10:51Speaker 13: a bullet all of his hair, shotgune Will, it's got
- 10:58Speaker 13: all of his family. Well, you can't make a record
- 11:04Speaker 13: if you ain't gotten nothing to say. You can't make
- 11:10Speaker 13: a record if you ain't got nothing to say. You
- 11:15Speaker 13: can't play music if you don't know nothing to play
- 11:21Speaker 13: A shotgune Will listens around and his onre ware finding
- 11:28Speaker 13: on a Bullet the.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Song and the album that introduced me to Willie Alston
- 11:35Speaker 1: will has got all of a lifetime Ado.
- 11:42Speaker 14: I heard the first line of that song, I said
- 11:45Speaker 14: to myself, I don't know who this is, but.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I am all In. Got the nickname.
- 12:06Speaker 14: When there was apparently a shotgun involved, had a shootout
- 12:11Speaker 14: his arm outside of Nashville, where he was living at
- 12:15Speaker 14: the time, involving his daughter and his daughter's soon to
- 12:21Speaker 14: be ex.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Husband A shotgun.
- 12:25Speaker 13: Willis it's around in his own noware.
- 12:30Speaker 4: F on a bullet?
- 12:32Speaker 1: Did everybody know Wressell Maania forty two is coming up.
- 12:37Speaker 11: In April?
- 12:38Speaker 13: All of his bam.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I knew it because I'm watching ESPN, and I guess
- 12:45Speaker 1: ESPN is carrying that stuff now, right, they're carrying the WrestleMania's.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Good for them.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Okay, Tomorrow we've got the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition. And
- 12:59Speaker 1: on Friday, Ryan will be in. I will visit with
- 13:02Speaker 1: Kirk Bowles as I do every Friday. Let's do Nate Oates. First,
- 13:09Speaker 1: we're gonna hear from the Alabama basketball coach. Alabama hasn't
- 13:20Speaker 1: been what they've been the last few years. And granted
- 13:26Speaker 1: it was what three years ago they went to the
- 13:28Speaker 1: Final Four, but they're sitting at four and four right now.
- 13:34Speaker 1: They're two and two at home. They didn't lose a
- 13:36Speaker 1: home game at all last year. They're coming out off
- 13:41Speaker 1: a blowout loss to Florida. The score was one hundred
- 13:47Speaker 1: and seventy seven, but it wasn't that close kind of game.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And this big game for Alabama, too big.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Game for A and M sitting down top of the
- 13:59Speaker 1: standing seven to one, big day for Alabama.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Here's Nate Oates.
- 14:07Speaker 7: When you look at Texas A and m positiously says,
- 14:10Speaker 7: maybe a surprise you given last season and what have
- 14:11Speaker 7: you just thought the way that Bucky has kind of
- 14:13Speaker 7: handled his first year.
- 14:14Speaker 13: Yeah, I wouldn't.
- 14:17Speaker 15: I wouldn't say I'm shocked, because you know, I should
- 14:20Speaker 15: I have met Bucky my first week or two in
- 14:23Speaker 15: a job.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I was a high school coach.
- 14:25Speaker 15: There's there's really good high school coaches out there that
- 14:29Speaker 15: never got a shot. You know, you got to give
- 14:34Speaker 15: Martin Newton a lot of credit iron Bucky right out
- 14:37Speaker 15: of high school. That she took a lot. I mean,
- 14:43Speaker 15: at you, Mike White hired me two years after I
- 14:45Speaker 15: was an assistant. He hired Bucky right out of high school.
- 14:47Speaker 15: So I said, Mike White, sorry, Danny White deal. I
- 14:52Speaker 15: think when Bucky got the shot at sam Ford, the
- 14:55Speaker 15: job he did, I just think it shows like there's
- 14:58Speaker 15: some really good high school coaches out there, and some
- 15:01Speaker 15: will never get a shot because not that many ads
- 15:04Speaker 15: have the wherewith all the you know, go out out
- 15:08Speaker 15: of the box and make a higher like that. But
- 15:10Speaker 15: you know, he wanted Samford. He one big at Mountain Brookie.
- 15:14Speaker 15: He knows what he's doing. It's a system that's different
- 15:18Speaker 15: than what anybody else is playing. It's similar to ours
- 15:20Speaker 15: and that we both play spread fast on offense, take
- 15:25Speaker 15: a lot of threes. It's different. They're pressing the whole game.
- 15:28Speaker 15: I did it for one year in high school. We didn't.
- 15:32Speaker 15: It didn't work for us.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Then.
- 15:33Speaker 15: I really haven't gone back to playing that way ever.
- 15:36Speaker 15: Bucki's figured it out a little bit better. He's able
- 15:40Speaker 15: to press without getting torched on the back end all
- 15:43Speaker 15: the time. And I think he's smart without aggressive upfront.
- 15:47Speaker 15: He is based on you know, how successful, who the
- 15:50Speaker 15: other team's handlers are, how you're handling it. So I don't,
- 15:57Speaker 15: I mean, I don't. I wouldn't say anybody predicted seven
- 16:00Speaker 15: and one. That would be a lie. But him being
- 16:03Speaker 15: able to turn her around quickly, I know, not surprising.
- 16:08Speaker 15: You know, I think first place all by himself almost
- 16:12Speaker 15: halfway into the league play. That's nobody predicted that, so
- 16:16Speaker 15: I think. But I think he's doing it well. They're
- 16:19Speaker 15: playing hard, they're playing together. You can tell his guys
- 16:22Speaker 15: enjoy playing in the system, and they fly around, play hard,
- 16:26Speaker 15: have fun.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Move the ball.
- 16:28Speaker 15: I mean it's fun system to watch, fun system to play.
- 16:31Speaker 15: You know, we get up and down and score pretty
- 16:34Speaker 15: well too, but we got to take care of the ball.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I'm not turn over and some but no, I.
- 16:40Speaker 15: Woant have predicted this, But I'm also not surprised that
- 16:42Speaker 15: he's been successful, if that makes sense.
- 16:48Speaker 8: You've been mentioning ball movement on offense a lot lately.
- 16:51Speaker 8: I want to ask you about A and M's ball movement.
- 16:54Speaker 8: They're number one in the SEC and assists at like
- 16:56Speaker 8: nineteen point eight per game, and I think the whole
- 16:58Speaker 8: lineup averages double figure score. So defensively, what does that
- 17:02Speaker 8: present to y'all in terms of a challenge.
- 17:04Speaker 15: Yeah, they move it. I mean if they if you
- 17:07Speaker 15: can't guard off the dribble or if you don't get
- 17:10Speaker 15: back in transition, and they start chew by creating an advantage,
- 17:15Speaker 15: you know, early in o'clock. And then once they get
- 17:17Speaker 15: the advantage, they're really good at keeping you in the blunder,
- 17:21Speaker 15: so to speak. And I think we got to you know,
- 17:24Speaker 15: once they get you in rotations, they just keep moving
- 17:26Speaker 15: the ball until they get a wide open three or
- 17:29Speaker 15: you know, drive to the rim dunk so similar to
- 17:34Speaker 15: how we want to be on offense. They've maybe done
- 17:37Speaker 15: it not maybe they've done it better than we have
- 17:39Speaker 15: to be honest with you, so you know, they move
- 17:41Speaker 15: the ball. Get everybody's unselfish. We've got to do a
- 17:45Speaker 15: really good job staying out of rotations as much as possible. Obviously,
- 17:50Speaker 15: when we get into rotations, we have to play hard.
- 17:53Speaker 15: I mean it's impossible to stay out of rotations all
- 17:56Speaker 15: game long. I mean the way they play, they play fast, aggressive,
- 18:00Speaker 15: attack up hill there or downhill to the rim, so
- 18:03Speaker 15: they're they're tough to guard. But yeah, they're doing a
- 18:06Speaker 15: really good job moving the ball, and we we haven't
- 18:09Speaker 15: been bad at times, we haven't been as good as
- 18:10Speaker 15: we need to be there, Like there's games where we
- 18:14Speaker 15: have a lot of assists and there's games where where
- 18:16Speaker 15: the ball sticks too much and we we turn it
- 18:17Speaker 15: over too much in the Florida game and didn't didn't
- 18:20Speaker 15: moveing off, we didn't handle their physicality, stuck too much,
- 18:23Speaker 15: and we turned it over way too often.
- 18:27Speaker 16: Because I held you evaluate LeBaron Filon in sec play,
- 18:30Speaker 16: And secondly, how would you evaluate the leadership on the
- 18:33Speaker 16: team as you guys are kind of going through some
- 18:34Speaker 16: of the stuff.
- 18:35Speaker 15: I mean final on scoring it well, I I think,
- 18:39Speaker 15: you know, he makes a statement he came back to
- 18:43Speaker 15: win a championship and try to lead.
- 18:46Speaker 16: Uh.
- 18:46Speaker 15: I think we got to get better effort out of
- 18:48Speaker 15: him on defense, If I'm honest with you, I just
- 18:50Speaker 15: he was an elite one of the best perimeter defenders
- 18:53Speaker 15: in the country last year. I thought that was one
- 18:55Speaker 15: of his strong suit how hard he played. I flew around,
- 18:59Speaker 15: you know, with the defensive load. He's taking a big
- 19:01Speaker 15: major step backwards in the defensive end this year. And
- 19:05Speaker 15: in order to be a leader, I think you got
- 19:07Speaker 15: to play both sides of the ball. So, you know,
- 19:10Speaker 15: as far as the leadership goes, we're searching right now
- 19:13Speaker 15: who's going to be that guy to make sure this
- 19:16Speaker 15: team gives us the effort we need every night out
- 19:18Speaker 15: because we didn't get that effort on Sunday. And the
- 19:21Speaker 15: best teams I've ever had your coach are always player
- 19:25Speaker 15: led teams. We're trying to demand effort. I got to
- 19:29Speaker 15: do a better job empowering the right guys to lead.
- 19:32Speaker 15: I got to do a better job finding the right
- 19:34Speaker 15: guys to put on the floor. But we got to
- 19:36Speaker 15: get you know, somebody to make sure that we play
- 19:39Speaker 15: as hard as we can possibly play on every possession,
- 19:42Speaker 15: not like the score dictate our effort, not let turnovers,
- 19:47Speaker 15: bad shots, misshots, whatever it is on offense affect our
- 19:51Speaker 15: effort on defense, because we've given up too many big
- 19:55Speaker 15: runs the wrong way this year. And I just to me,
- 19:57Speaker 15: that goes along with your leadership. So we got to
- 19:59Speaker 15: get and we got guys that want to do it.
- 20:01Speaker 15: And would sound like we have any bad kids on
- 20:03Speaker 15: this team. They're all good kids, but they got to
- 20:06Speaker 15: take some ownership of their effort on the floor and
- 20:08Speaker 15: their team's effort as well.
- 20:13Speaker 11: Yeah. Just what do you remember about Ryland Griffin and
- 20:15Speaker 11: how is he kind of improved at A and M.
- 20:17Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean great shooter plays. Are really enjoyed coaching them.
- 20:23Speaker 15: He's i think may averaging two steals to go plus
- 20:26Speaker 15: two plus steals again, I mean he's playing. He's smart,
- 20:30Speaker 15: very cerebral, got a really good memory. Can talk to
- 20:33Speaker 15: you about any I mean, I bet you if you
- 20:35Speaker 15: ask the money game when he was here, you remember
- 20:38Speaker 15: a lot of things about the game that I don't remember.
- 20:41Speaker 15: So he's and he loves playing basketball. He's having a
- 20:45Speaker 15: lot of fun. You can tell he's having fun there.
- 20:46Speaker 15: He's he's shooting the three ball really well for him,
- 20:48Speaker 15: which he shot it well for us here. But you know,
- 20:50Speaker 15: he's been able to play their defensive system pretty well,
- 20:53Speaker 15: getting the steels and all that. So we got to
- 20:55Speaker 15: make sure we don't give them open shots, and we
- 20:57Speaker 15: got to take care of the ball around him because
- 20:59Speaker 15: he's doing a good job creating turnoards on defense.
- 21:02Speaker 17: To coach, the beginning of the season, you said that
- 21:07Speaker 17: this could be have the potential to be your best
- 21:09Speaker 17: three point shooting team you've had.
- 21:11Speaker 2: What's your evaluation of that?
- 21:13Speaker 15: You know it's not the best three point shooting team
- 21:15Speaker 15: we've had, uh for for multitude of reasons. One is,
- 21:20Speaker 15: our pass quality hasn't been as good we uh, if
- 21:23Speaker 15: you look at the passes our shooters are getting there,
- 21:25Speaker 15: it's not where they need to get it. Two is, uh,
- 21:28Speaker 15: we don't get off the ball quick enough and put
- 21:30Speaker 15: teams in the bunder and get to it two on
- 21:32Speaker 15: one nearly enough, like we've got available to on once
- 21:36Speaker 15: to play that the ball doesn't get to him. So
- 21:38Speaker 15: it's hard to shoot when you're taking too many contested shots.
- 21:41Speaker 15: So our shot quality is you know, is not help
- 21:46Speaker 15: by not moving the ball as well as we want,
- 21:48Speaker 15: not delivering passes where it needs to be. So some
- 21:50Speaker 15: guys in en up forcing shots because they haven't got
- 21:53Speaker 15: good shots, which you know, if a teammate misses you,
- 21:56Speaker 15: we should add a two on one he misses you.
- 21:57Speaker 15: We can't just force up a bad shot the next
- 22:00Speaker 15: time you get the ball. So combination of our shot selection,
- 22:04Speaker 15: our pass quality, us moving the ball, and then injuries
- 22:09Speaker 15: I think have a part to do with it. To
- 22:10Speaker 15: guys that are not in rhythm with each other, it's hard.
- 22:12Speaker 15: We don't practice together like we usually do we have.
- 22:15Speaker 15: I mean, we got guys sitting out every day in practice.
- 22:18Speaker 15: When you got guys sitting out practice every day, even
- 22:20Speaker 15: if they playing the games, they didn't practice together. They
- 22:22Speaker 15: didn't play in the last two or three weeks of games.
- 22:24Speaker 15: It's it's very hard to get a chemistry going when
- 22:27Speaker 15: we've had the amount of injuries we've had, so combination
- 22:30Speaker 15: of a lot of things. I still think we have
- 22:33Speaker 15: an accumulation of the best shooter, the most good shooters
- 22:37Speaker 15: on a team I've ever had, but it hasn't translated
- 22:40Speaker 15: to being the best shooting team. We've had, If that makes.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Sense, Nado, it's not pulling any punches and sending messages
- 22:49Speaker 1: to his players got to play harder, singling out LeBaron Phylon,
- 22:56Speaker 1: their best player said he's got to fit. Not nearly
- 23:00Speaker 1: as good as he was last Year's not playing hard enough,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and somebody on the team has to step forward and
- 23:09Speaker 1: take a leadership role on this team. Look, I don't
- 23:14Speaker 1: think there's anybody that thinks this will not be a
- 23:17Speaker 1: highly motivated team tonight. Like I said, they are four
- 23:23Speaker 1: and four, they're kind of a crossroads nearly a halfway
- 23:27Speaker 1: point in this season.
- 23:29Speaker 2: In the conference play.
- 23:31Speaker 1: They have not lived up to their own goals and expectations.
- 23:39Speaker 2: They have got to be better.
- 23:41Speaker 1: They've got to be better at home, and I think
- 23:47Speaker 1: A and M will get their best shot tonight, but
- 23:53Speaker 1: should make for a very entertaining game. Love the fact
- 23:56Speaker 1: that he said, Hey, they playoff its like we do,
- 24:00Speaker 1: only quite honestly, they're doing a lot better than we are.
- 24:04Speaker 2: A love that. So, yeah, there's gonna.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Be a lot to look look at tonight, a lot
- 24:14Speaker 1: of things going on, and it should be highly entertaining.
- 24:21Speaker 1: So I wanted to play this yesterday ran out of time.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Rashaun Ag is in my mind, a Player of the
- 24:30Speaker 1: Year candidate in the SEC. He is a first team
- 24:34Speaker 1: All SEC player at the halfway point. He is mister
- 24:39Speaker 1: double double. He is battling people three and four and
- 24:43Speaker 1: five and six inches taller than him every game he
- 24:47Speaker 1: plays in the SEC, and it hasn't mattered at all.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I love what he brings to the table. Said it before,
- 24:56Speaker 1: the energy, the effort, the toughness. Here's roushan Ag.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Think you'll make believers out of everybody?
- 25:06Speaker 10: Yet yet? I hope so. I mean, if not, then
- 25:09Speaker 10: it's okay. I mean, we got a lot of basketball left.
- 25:11Speaker 10: We're just gonna continue to do what we do regardless.
- 25:15Speaker 9: What do you think is this team's greatest asset?
- 25:20Speaker 10: I say it all the time. I feel like we
- 25:21Speaker 10: just we do it for each other. We don't do
- 25:23Speaker 10: it for no outside noise. We don't do it for
- 25:26Speaker 10: the media. We do it kind of just because, I mean,
- 25:30Speaker 10: we beat each other up every day and we know
- 25:31Speaker 10: what we went through and we know what it means
- 25:33Speaker 10: to win the ball game.
- 25:35Speaker 9: How long are you saying it at the back of
- 25:37Speaker 9: the bush.
- 25:39Speaker 10: I ain't gonna lie be doing it because, like I
- 25:42Speaker 10: hate when we got to get on the bus and
- 25:44Speaker 10: then especially after playing and you play a certain around
- 25:47Speaker 10: of minutes, I can't just be sitting down but so uncomfortable.
- 25:53Speaker 9: Yeah, it's not, this is not this is the first guy,
- 25:57Speaker 9: big guy that y'all face, and you keep having success.
- 26:00Speaker 9: Amount of asked you this before, But what's the secret
- 26:03Speaker 9: of that to be? I think coach told the shirt
- 26:06Speaker 9: without your shoes all like six little over sixty five,
- 26:08Speaker 9: and now I think he said that's right.
- 26:12Speaker 10: I'm not going to say he's lying.
- 26:13Speaker 2: He's telling me.
- 26:13Speaker 11: Fib still the most six eight right, Yeah, so it's.
- 26:19Speaker 9: Gonna get six ten, six eleven even seven foot guys?
- 26:23Speaker 10: How do you do that? I mean secret? How would you?
- 26:26Speaker 9: How would you coach somebody to be successful in that situation?
- 26:28Speaker 10: A motor? I mean you got to play harder than
- 26:30Speaker 10: the next man. You always got to have belief in yourself,
- 26:35Speaker 10: and you got to learn how to rebound the ball.
- 26:37Speaker 10: I mean not even learn. I mean I feel like
- 26:38Speaker 10: it's kind of instinct, something that I was a god
- 26:41Speaker 10: given talent of mine. But uh, motor, play hard, be physical,
- 26:46Speaker 10: never allows somebody to take the fight to you. You take
- 26:49Speaker 10: the fight to them.
- 26:52Speaker 18: Okay with rightlan going back to a place that he
- 26:55Speaker 18: kind of started.
- 26:56Speaker 10: Just you know what, if you say team from him
- 27:00Speaker 10: these last few games, and just you know what, is
- 27:04Speaker 10: he kind of brought to the table in that way. Man,
- 27:06Speaker 10: he's been great defensive league, offensive league, knocking down shots.
- 27:09Speaker 10: I mean he's been coaching. Like I said, everybody in
- 27:11Speaker 10: the huddle always talks. He comes in, he talks, he
- 27:13Speaker 10: speaks up. I would just for Rilin going into Alabama.
- 27:18Speaker 10: I mean, of course he's I'm gonna tell him not
- 27:19Speaker 10: to get too emotional about it and not to let
- 27:21Speaker 10: his emotions dictate his game. But he's gonna do what
- 27:23Speaker 10: he always do. He's gonna knock down shots. He's gonna
- 27:25Speaker 10: play defense. He's gonna i mean at his side, he's
- 27:28Speaker 10: gonna block shots. Also, he's gonna rebound, he's gonna coach.
- 27:31Speaker 9: So has he given any indication at all that this
- 27:35Speaker 9: game about being a little more is approaching it just
- 27:37Speaker 9: like every other game?
- 27:38Speaker 10: Nah, he approaches just like every other game. He hasn't
- 27:40Speaker 10: said anything yet, but like I said, I mean, he
- 27:44Speaker 10: know every game is just the same.
- 27:47Speaker 9: Does this team deserve to be ranked in the Ape?
- 27:50Speaker 10: He top twenty five Alabama. Well, y'all aw us. Yeah,
- 27:56Speaker 10: I don't really get into all of that. You know,
- 27:58Speaker 10: I feel like I let everybody else do it. I
- 28:00Speaker 10: talked to my family a lot about it, but like
- 28:03Speaker 10: I always tell them, I mean, it really don't matter
- 28:05Speaker 10: to me. As long as at the end we holding
- 28:07Speaker 10: up trophies and we continue to do what we do.
- 28:09Speaker 10: That's all it matter.
- 28:11Speaker 17: In the same vein outside noise, you guys can get ranked.
- 28:14Speaker 17: The coaches pull just outside of the eight people. What
- 28:17Speaker 17: you said, you don't really pay attention to it. But
- 28:20Speaker 17: other outside noise giving you some respect, does that mean
- 28:22Speaker 17: anything to you?
- 28:22Speaker 4: Guys?
- 28:23Speaker 17: Are you just is a business usual?
- 28:24Speaker 10: Business as usual. We gotta do what we gotta do.
- 28:27Speaker 10: We know what we will belong with everybody else. But
- 28:29Speaker 10: I mean, another day in office and we're just gonna
- 28:32Speaker 10: keep doing what we do.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Sure shot age. And there's a lot of.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Angst among the local populace about why this team's not ranked.
- 28:44Speaker 1: There's no reason they shouldn't be ranked. Of course they
- 28:47Speaker 1: should be ranked. But as Bucky said earlier this week,
- 28:53Speaker 1: rankings mean absolutely nothing. The committee doesn't look at rankings.
- 28:58Speaker 1: They've got their own setup. Mets A and M's doing okay.
- 29:01Speaker 1: In those metrics, they're doing pretty well. Alabama is slightly
- 29:08Speaker 1: ahead of A and M and most of those metrics.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Florida certainly is. So they have an opportunity this week
- 29:16Speaker 1: to take care of all of that stuff, and if
- 29:22Speaker 1: they can.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Next week they'll be ranked.
- 29:25Speaker 1: And in fact, if they win these next two games,
- 29:29Speaker 1: they'll they'll be close to a top twenty ranking, not
- 29:33Speaker 1: just barely in.
- 29:35Speaker 2: If they don't, they won't, that's that's simple.
- 29:40Speaker 1: But half the conference race still ahead, right, So got
- 29:48Speaker 1: a ways to go. This is kind of February's grind month.
- 29:52Speaker 1: You're going to see a lot of upsets in February.
- 29:55Speaker 1: You know you're gonna see lots of weird stuff happen.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Happens every year because it's February. You've already played a
- 30:06Speaker 1: long season, still got like eight to nine conference games
- 30:11Speaker 1: to go, and so weird stuff can happen in February
- 30:16Speaker 1: and college basketball. So a week from Friday, Nope, a
- 30:23Speaker 1: week from Saturday is Valentine's Day. Gentlemen, may I suggest

- 34:42Speaker 1: This this was a tweet by A maryland administrator who's
- 34:54Speaker 1: been AN nba administrator as. Well Big university Of maryland,
- 35:00Speaker 1: guy you've seen this. Already did he play From?
- 35:03Speaker 9: Maryland?
- 35:04Speaker 2: YEAH i don't. Know did he what's his?
- 35:06Speaker 11: Name Chuck?
- 35:06Speaker 2: Douglas is his? Name? Okay Chuck? Douglas?
- 35:15Speaker 11: Okay what did he have to?
- 35:16Speaker 2: Say here's the.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Tweet no offense to Allow wolf Or Josh, chambers but
- 35:32Speaker 1: xa Of Buzz williams's lack of outreach connection to The
- 35:38Speaker 1: maryland fan base and Greater terps basketball. Community you've got
- 35:44Speaker 1: to make yourself available for your own coaches. Show good
- 35:50Speaker 1: leaders are accountable and. Present you can't consistently punt those
- 35:57Speaker 1: responsibilities or ask them on to, underlinks especially when things
- 36:04Speaker 1: aren't going. Well as an, aside what exactly is a
- 36:10Speaker 1: director of? Process because FROM, afar the process isn't. Processing,
- 36:22Speaker 1: okay comment on the. Tweet Buzz williams has not appeared
- 36:29Speaker 1: on The Maryland basketball radio show Since december, ninth and
- 36:35Speaker 1: is not scheduled to again this.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Season this was announced In.
- 36:42Speaker 1: October doesn't change the fact That buzz has rarely made
- 36:48Speaker 1: himself available this. YEAR i think he'd never do any
- 36:53Speaker 1: media if he. Could things aren't going well in the
- 36:58Speaker 1: first year for Buzzh.
- 37:01Speaker 2: No they're.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Not the spotlight's a little brighter on basketball In. MARYLAND
- 37:06Speaker 1: i think he's finding that out that it is in
- 37:09Speaker 1: college station that he got away with. THINGS i, mean
- 37:15Speaker 1: it's Still buzz hasn't changed at, all AS i, recall
- 37:21Speaker 1: and he mostly did his radio show here. Mostly, yeah
- 37:26Speaker 1: he'd occasionally send the, assistant but before the most part
- 37:31Speaker 1: he mostly did. Here now he won a lot more
- 37:34Speaker 1: games here than he's won At maryland so. Far but
- 37:37Speaker 1: the idea that he has not made himself available to
- 37:46Speaker 1: the fan, base that's if they didn't know that before
- 37:52Speaker 1: they Hired, buzz that's on, them, Right, YEAH i mean
- 37:56Speaker 1: that's on. Them if they Thought buzz was going to
- 37:59Speaker 1: be part of quote The maryland, community and he was
- 38:04Speaker 1: going to come to the restaurant and glad hand all
- 38:08Speaker 1: the fans and know them all by name and buy him.
- 38:12Speaker 2: A beer or.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Whatever if they thought that's what they were, getting then
- 38:16Speaker 1: shame on. Them if they didn't vet the coach better than,
- 38:21Speaker 1: that that's their. Fault if they wanted a coach that
- 38:26Speaker 1: was quote going to be part of the, community then
- 38:31Speaker 1: they should have gone in a different direction Because buzz
- 38:34Speaker 1: ain't going to do.
- 38:35Speaker 2: That could they go in a different?
- 38:36Speaker 1: Direction, now, No i'm saying then could they have done
- 38:40Speaker 1: THEIR i don't remember all of.
- 38:43Speaker 11: THAT i didn't have an act the, interim, right the
- 38:45Speaker 11: president of the university had. Left your, Coach Kevin willard
- 38:52Speaker 11: burns down the building as he's.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Leaving so that sounds familiar saying.
- 38:57Speaker 11: That maryland inn, il you, know burns them, down leaves
- 39:04Speaker 11: and goes To, villanova which some people consider a step,
- 39:09Speaker 11: down especially if you're A maryland basketball.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Fan i'm not saying that it. Is, yeah no it's.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Not but, still BUT i know It's.
- 39:17Speaker 11: Maryland looks at that as a step. Down and you,
- 39:22Speaker 11: know Here's buss who was by all accounts shopping himself
- 39:29Speaker 11: and wasn't planning on Being TEXAS a and m's coach this.
- 39:33Speaker 11: Year unless you, know it's nothing. Worked, sometimes you, know
- 39:40Speaker 11: fish just swim right by that.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Lure, yeah sometimes.
- 39:46Speaker 11: They they don't take the. BAIT i thought you were
- 39:52Speaker 11: going to tell me about the story That Chuck douglas
- 39:54Speaker 11: had On february.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Second, okay that was just two days, Ago, yes, okay.
- 40:01Speaker 11: When he SAID i think there's a disconnect between the fan, base,
- 40:06Speaker 11: supporters lums and, donors everybody outside the bub William Buzz williams.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Bubble which we, know by the, way is extremely.
- 40:15Speaker 11: Small, YES i feel it feels like is This maryland
- 40:21Speaker 11: or is this Buzz. Williams isn't it supposed to be?
- 40:25Speaker 11: Both just don't forget about, us take down the ego
- 40:28Speaker 11: and not your door, too and people.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Will go along for the.
- 40:32Speaker 11: Ride right, now we don't feel like we're part of.
- 40:36Speaker 11: It it's not your, team it's our. Team we're on
- 40:40Speaker 11: the outside right, now and we want to be part of.
- 40:43Speaker 11: It Sometimes i'm not sure what he's. Saying it feels
- 40:47Speaker 11: like there's more about analytics and other stuff that doesn't
- 40:50Speaker 11: connect with people where people are right. NOW i just
- 40:55Speaker 11: don't think there's been much. Outreach the fan base has become.
- 40:59Speaker 11: Detached the results are somewhat, understandable giving the injuries in
- 41:02Speaker 11: a late, start but you can still do other things
- 41:06Speaker 11: to ingreat. Yourself don't make it about, You just identify
- 41:13Speaker 11: with the little man and, say, hey it's about.
- 41:16Speaker 2: US i feel your pain AND i know where you're coming.
- 41:19Speaker 1: From he's, uh probably not going to. Quit i'm talking
- 41:26Speaker 1: About Chuck. Douglas, no he's probably not going to quit
- 41:30Speaker 1: The uh.
- 41:31Speaker 11: WELL i mean if they start winning then HE i
- 41:34Speaker 11: think you.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Will they're not going to start winning this.
- 41:36Speaker 11: Year, WELL i Mean buzz did say that he didn't
- 41:41Speaker 11: want this to be this season to be outcome?
- 41:45Speaker 2: Related, okay what does that?
- 41:49Speaker 1: Mean that means he didn't want to be judged on
- 41:52Speaker 1: winds and losses in his first.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Year is that's?
- 41:54Speaker 11: Outcome?
- 41:55Speaker 2: YEAH i don't want to.
- 41:57Speaker 11: Get the whole. Quote, okay let's see here focusing on
- 42:08Speaker 11: process driven improvement rather than on immediate negative. Outcomes so
- 42:16Speaker 11: that sounds Like buzz focus on the, process on the.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Process, Yes so.
- 42:23Speaker 1: What's what's her record right? NOW i think they won
- 42:26Speaker 1: if they won one game or two in The Big.
- 42:28Speaker 11: Ten, yeah they've won one, game one. Game they beat
- 42:31Speaker 11: the worst team in The big, Ten Penn.
- 42:33Speaker 1: State, okay that's their win, seven, eight one and nine
- 42:38Speaker 1: and one in Nine now, okay most of those have
- 42:41Speaker 1: not been.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Close, No so you, KNOW.
- 42:49Speaker 11: I just think his His the worst thing For buzz
- 42:58Speaker 11: Is bucky is doing better in the exact same, situation
- 43:03Speaker 11: if not. Worse buzz took everybody he wanted FROM a
- 43:07Speaker 11: AND m with, Him, okay and then.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Well let's be clear What Solomon washington.
- 43:19Speaker 5: Was.
- 43:20Speaker 11: One he took five, players he still, Took, yes he took.
- 43:24Speaker 1: THREE i, know he took the kid that he recruited
- 43:27Speaker 1: here on THE a AND m campus in the guard
- 43:29Speaker 1: and then the big guy who was.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Purposing. Yeah, no, no, No Farrel, payne Far Rel. Payn.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Yes and he took five Forel pain got hurt early this.
- 43:39Speaker 11: Season, yes but he took five guys with, him so
- 43:43Speaker 11: he had five guys that knew what he, wanted how he,
- 43:47Speaker 11: coached what it was about trying to put five guys
- 43:51Speaker 11: on the. Floor they're Not you couldn't do that with that. Group,
- 43:55Speaker 11: okay and you know he's he you know that's a
- 43:59Speaker 11: better situation than having no.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Guys one. Guy, well, yeah one, guy one guy that's
- 44:05Speaker 2: not your. Guy. McDermott. McDermott.
- 44:07Speaker 11: Yeah so it is worse For buzz That bucky is
- 44:13Speaker 11: in the exact same situation actually starting two weeks, later
- 44:17Speaker 11: BECAUSE a AND m had to hire him After buzz
- 44:20Speaker 11: left and having the success that he.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Does, again.
- 44:26Speaker 1: It doesn't matter what your personality, is it doesn't matter
- 44:29Speaker 1: what your style, is it doesn't matter how you.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Do things if you.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Win if you, lose then the spotlight starts shining on
- 44:39Speaker 1: things that people.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Want you to do. Better, Right, yes besides when in
- 44:46Speaker 2: other areas.
- 44:49Speaker 11: WELL i mean When buzz had the losing streaks in
- 44:55Speaker 11: season and then they had the winning streaks right, After.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Yeah there was.
- 45:01Speaker 11: You you made a few more baskets because the losses were.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Close their losses aren't.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Close, no get they're getting. Smoked worst home loss, Ever,
- 45:12Speaker 1: yeah they're getting. Smoked they're worst overall loss Since World
- 45:19Speaker 1: War two last week At Michigan. State so it's not even,
- 45:25Speaker 1: close and that makes it that much, worse no.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Doubt All. RIGHT i just wanted to throw that in
- 45:34Speaker 2: because he still be the number one team in the
- 45:35Speaker 2: country right while he was.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Here, yeah the first time a m ever BEAT I
- 45:41Speaker 1: i didn't Know. Buzz very few people Knew, buzz and that's.
- 45:49Speaker 1: FINE i don't. Care you, KNOW i thought he did
- 45:54Speaker 1: a really good job. HERE i thought he had some
- 45:57Speaker 1: really nice teams. Here, YES i thought he put together
- 46:01Speaker 1: a program in the time that he was. HERE i
- 46:04Speaker 1: understand that it's popular now To. PYLON i get that
- 46:10Speaker 1: everybody's thrilled With. BUCKY i certainly get that personality, wise
- 46:15Speaker 1: night and DAY i get that. Style night and, DAY
- 46:19Speaker 1: i get all of. THAT i don't want to go
- 46:23Speaker 1: back and rewrite history Because buzz had success here And
- 46:28Speaker 1: i'm not ready to end his coaching career after this
- 46:33Speaker 1: one year At.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Maryland we shall.
- 46:34Speaker 1: SEE i believe it's going to be a little bit
- 46:37Speaker 1: more difficult for him At maryland than it was.
- 46:39Speaker 11: Here he has a top five recruiting class coming, in.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Which is very, unusual by the, way For.
- 46:45Speaker 11: BUZZ i want to see how many of them actually
