- 0:39Speaker 2: We are two days away from actual football, which is crazy to talk about and think about, but that is a thing that we're going to do here pretty soon.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Feel good about that where you sitting right now.
- 0:49Speaker 2: You look very nice, by the way thank you.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm in my own personal office, love it love it.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Today I am drinking a.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It's midday, my kids are out there so I'm not not ready.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I'm having a live patient.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I'm having a coconut waterloo who ABV is exactly 0.0.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I think the hops are pretty low.
- 1:07Speaker 2: It's got a nice crisp finish.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I'm feeling pretty good about it yeah, I'm drinking water, so right there with you, stay hydrated, to have a cocktail later.
- 1:16Speaker 2: That's the idea.
- 1:17Speaker 2: So, yeah, it's not going to be much longer now.
- 1:19Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:20Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:20Speaker 2: All right, cool.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So this is our last preseason part of the season.
- 1:23Speaker 2: We're, mike and I, are going to talk about a little cleanup, kind of wrap the preseason so we can get to the real season.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Today we're going to talk about some impact transfers.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I've seen the NIL and transfer era that we are in.
- 1:34Speaker 2: We've seen some names really fly around.
- 1:35Speaker 2: We're going to talk about some names.
- 1:36Speaker 2: We're interesting.
- 1:37Speaker 2: We're going to talk about some coaching hot seats.
- 1:38Speaker 2: We are talking about some great hires that are starting their regimes, the respective schools.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We're going to talk about a couple names that might be on the very end or could be in the very end, and then we're going to do a very quick, brief preview of week zero.
- 1:50Speaker 2: There's only seven games, not a lot to talk about, but a couple things.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So let's go ahead and get right into it.
- 1:56Speaker 2: So obviously, some teams are changing fast with so many guys moving around, and there's a couple guys that are kind of the top of my list in terms of like making a big deal and they get there.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Obviously, anybody who listens podcast knows about diehard demon.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Deacon's fan died in the wool have been forever.
- 2:11Speaker 2: It wasn't just last year, it's a traditional thing for me.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Um, it's got to be the quarterback, sam harman, moving over to Notre Dame.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I'm just excited to see him play yeah, he is gonna be definitely a big name to watch, not only because of the numbers he put up at wake forest, but also Notre Dame.
- 2:28Speaker 1: One of the big things missing last year was quarterback play, so can he push them to the next level?
- 2:35Speaker 2: that's the big question for them exactly and that's you know.
- 2:37Speaker 2: And, like you know, obviously, coming from the Dave Kloss, in that slow, mesh rpo style offense, which is not what markets freeman's, not what they're running there, I'm super interested to see how he assimilates, but, honestly, just having a guy who can put the ball down the field is like like sam harman can.
- 2:50Speaker 2: They're gonna have defense, they're gonna have a run game.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I think he's got a big impact.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Who's who's top of your list?
- 2:56Speaker 1: for me I've got a stick in the same vein and go Devon leary going from NC State to Kentucky.
- 3:03Speaker 1: The ACC losing a lot of quarterback talent with those guys and I think Kentucky again, you know, can you reload at the quarterback spot, so to speak, after losing will love us to the NFL draft.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I think Devon leary is actually a step up.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I think he's got a bigger arm and he should be another plug-and-play guy that can.
- 3:23Speaker 1: That can help really define what Kentucky's football season looks like.
- 3:28Speaker 2: So a couple of things here.
- 3:29Speaker 2: One I'll totally agree with your analysis spot on.
- 3:31Speaker 2: The other thing that's happened is not only is not only is he coming to Kentucky, they're bringing Liam Cohen back.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Liam Cohen's a former offensive coordinator to Kentucky.
- 3:39Speaker 2: He was not there last year, he was there for the Will Leviss coming out party two years ago.
- 3:44Speaker 2: So I think it's a pretty good feeling about Liam Cohen Devon Leary being back on the same team again.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of ground there to go.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I think there's an outside shot that Devon Leary might be one of the better, if not the best, quarterbacks in the SEC this year.
- 3:59Speaker 2: A lot of guys compete with, but he certainly has a chance.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Next on my list, I'm gonna take the quarterback one more time.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna go Tanner Mordecai.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Tanner Mordecai going over from SMU to Wisconsin.
- 4:10Speaker 2: At SMU he threw for like 17 miles worth of yards.
- 4:15Speaker 2: But Gillian Yards, that was the offense they kind of ran.
- 4:17Speaker 2: It's just very, very impressive what they did.
- 4:19Speaker 2: He's running the air raid offense in Wisconsin.
- 4:21Speaker 2: So obviously new OC Phil Longo, the guy from UNC who really created, drake May and Sam Howell.
- 4:29Speaker 2: So he's running Luke Fickle, great coach Wisconsin.
- 4:32Speaker 2: You know they've got guys who could play, especially guys who can block.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So I'm really interested to see.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It's gonna be crazy to start in my eyeballs to see a Wisconsin team at Camp Randall throwing the ball bonkers.
- 4:45Speaker 2: But obviously that doesn't happen unless you've got a good trigger man, and Tanner Mordecai seems to be a great fit for that spot.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, luke Fickle does a lot at the quarterback spot and I think Wisconsin's gonna surprise a lot of teams this year.
- 4:57Speaker 1: A lot of people across the national landscape probably not on a lot of radars right now but definitely want to watch really fun to watch how their season plays out.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Next on my list, sticking at the quarterback spot DJ Uyangola.
- 5:11Speaker 1: You've heard us talk about him quite a bit.
- 5:13Speaker 1: If you're a listener to the pod, he's gone to Oregon State.
- 5:17Speaker 1: A lot of people might not really realize, thinking back at the year, that Oregon State had last year, but they went 10 and three.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I forgot they were pretty good.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they were pretty good.
- 5:26Speaker 1: And if things can click for him you know, obviously he's a former five star new environment, new system, new coach, second lease on life I think he could really be a key player in shaking things up in the Pac-12.
- 5:39Speaker 2: So a couple of interesting things there.
- 5:40Speaker 2: One they just announced him as the guest starter, which is, of course, he's the starter.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Other thing, though, is he's if you've seen some commentary coming out of camp.
- 5:47Speaker 2: He already kind of threw Clemson under the bus saying how dysfunctional the offense was hanging it wasn't clicking, wasn't his thing.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Who knows if that's true.
- 5:56Speaker 2: We're gonna find out here in the next 12 weeks or so, but he seems pretty bullish on his own brand and his own fit at Oregon State can't blame for that.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So obviously that is far and away the most high upside talent quarterback that Oregon State's ever had, so we'll keep an eye on that one.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Next one I'm gonna go over to Jordan Birch.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Jordan Birch four to five star guy, defensive end, defensive tackle tweener.
- 6:18Speaker 2: He reached havoc for South Carolina for years.
- 6:20Speaker 2: He'd moved over to Oregon.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Oregon is obviously known for their offense, their high, their fast, their slick bonix.
- 6:27Speaker 2: We've all heard about that.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The defensive side of the ball has not always been there, but he is a guy that can do a lot of things really really well Create havoc off the pass, rush really good against the run, really big, talented, probably going to play on Sundays.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I'm really excited to see if he can become the threat.
- 6:47Speaker 2: If you have that true pass rush threat that defensive coordinators and quarterbacks have to account for every play, it really changes the dynamic of that defense and, honestly, he's going to have a chance to go against a lot of really good quarterbacks in the Pac-12.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Best quarterback conference in the country by far this year.
- 7:03Speaker 2: So I look for Jordan Birch to have a big impact.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that.
- 7:07Speaker 1: We're going to roll through a couple more really quickly.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I want to give Florida State's whole team an honorable mention.
- 7:13Speaker 1: They cleaned up in the transfer portal, specifically Fentrell, cyprus.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I definitely want to mention him.
- 7:19Speaker 1: He's a former Wahoo.
- 7:21Speaker 1: He was like a four star cornerback out of South Carolina and he's a plug and play guy.
- 7:26Speaker 1: They've got talent with Jeremiah Byers at offensive tackle.
- 7:30Speaker 1: He's a plug and play guy.
- 7:31Speaker 1: He's out of UTEP, I think, so not a lot of eyes have been on him.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And then another big one who you'll definitely see a lot of Jehean Bell at tight end, who is a freaking stud.
- 7:41Speaker 1: You'll see him.
- 7:43Speaker 1: He's huge 6-2, 2-0-7.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Really creates a lot of mismatches.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You can flex him out.
- 7:48Speaker 1: He'll be catching a lot of balls this year and that's just the tip of the iceberg for them.
- 7:52Speaker 1: They I think they added like 10 guys in the transfer portal.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Florida, say, the number one 24-7 composite transfer rankings this past season, meaning they brought in more and better talent than anybody in the country.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Close number two is LSU.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I will say we also brought in a lot of guys.
- 8:08Speaker 1: All like cornerback.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I like that.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yes, All the secondary.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Seriously, a whole second to be rebuilt.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, keep your eye on the Florida States impact transfers.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Another one I'm going to go for Two on.
- 8:17Speaker 2: These are both two high pro guys.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Dorian Singer, the wide receiver, transfer from Arizona, led the PAC 12 in receiving yards.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And Bear Alexander, the defensive tackle from Georgia, will also transfer to USC.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Two big names, flashy guys, definitely secured the bag.
- 8:31Speaker 2: They're both going to eat.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Dorian Singer is a Jordan Addison type plug and play guy who I expect to have big numbers.
- 8:38Speaker 2: And Bear Alexander, like he has All name team, All name team for sure, we're Tony, my boy, Tony Musket.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Bear Alexander has a chance to be that guy to transform a defense which is pitiful and trying to compete for the national championship.
- 8:51Speaker 2: If you have a guy in your nose, that's that kind of havoc maker which he was.
- 8:56Speaker 2: He definitely showed flashes of an Athens last year.
- 8:59Speaker 2: If he can do that at USC, he brings a lot.
- 9:02Speaker 2: So two defensive line I really like in the PAC 12 this year Bear Alexander and Jordan Burch.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Yeah, one more for me.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Got to mention my boy, deontay Thornton, coming to Tennessee from Oregon, former four star wide receiver, he's going to be replacing, basically, bulletinacoff award winner Jalen Hyatt in the slot.
- 10:01Speaker 1: We'll look to see this guy.
- 10:03Speaker 1: He's a freak athlete, he's a burner on the outside, but he's he's physically 6'5, 185.
- 10:09Speaker 1: So he's going to put up some numbers this year, nice.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Where do you come from?
- 10:12Speaker 2: What school?
- 10:12Speaker 2: Oregon, oregon.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah, ok, very nice, very nice.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Also, I'll do two more home cooking team guys Omar Spates or Spites, I'm not sure the all PAC 12.
- 10:22Speaker 2: As PAC 12 linebacker out of Oregon State he's now at LSU playing next to Harold Perkins.
- 10:28Speaker 2: All world Harold Perkins really excited for him.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I think LSU has some absolute records in their front seven especially the two lines going to be still lines going to be nasty.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Everyone's going to be going to have their eyes on Harold Perkins, I think.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I think Spites is going to get a bajillion plays funnels right to him.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I think he's really going to eat and excited for him.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And, lastly, we have to say it's because we did.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Brennan Armstrong going from UVA to NC State breaks our heart as UVA fans, but Dave Dorn is a great coach.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Nc State is a great program.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I think if you're an NC State fan and you're a Sad Wahoo fan, I understand.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I think he's.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I think he's got a lot of upside there too, so I think I look for him to.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Devon O'Leary is a great quarterback.
- 11:06Speaker 2: He's following him, but I think Brennan Armstrong can do a lot of great things for the Wolfpack.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah, not a bad situation to lose a guy like Devon Leary and plug in a Brennan Armstrong, and Armstrong is pretty mobile too.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So, yeah, he's definitely in a good spot and, like you said, nc State has been a solid program for several years now, so in a good situation for him, very nice.
- 11:25Speaker 2: So that's just a tip of the iceberg for transferism.
- 11:27Speaker 2: We'll talk more about transfers this season Because a lot of these guys are going to emerge.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Literally hundreds of them went to the portal, hundreds found new teams and there's a lot of names that we haven't, that we haven't found yet.
- 11:36Speaker 2: We'll find more.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Those are just a couple of names that Mike and I want to talk about.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Preseason, to stand out Moving on, let's talk about some coaching hot seats.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So what we're going to do is we're going to talk about some hot seats.
- 11:46Speaker 2: We're excited if they are on the hot seat, oh, $0.eno.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Or if that's just all hype, you are fake news.
- 11:54Speaker 2: It's one or the other.
- 11:55Speaker 2: So it's either.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Are they hot or are they not.
- 11:57Speaker 2: It's not really clear.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Um, we'll start with the obvious one.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Uh, neil Brown at West Virginia Probably should have been fired last year.
- 12:04Speaker 2: The new ad is brought in.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I think we both agree.
- 12:07Speaker 2: He's the hot season we're talking about.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Is there what?
- 12:09Speaker 2: Here's question for you, mike what's his?
- 12:11Speaker 2: What does Neil Brown's record?
- 12:12Speaker 2: To be at West Virginia to not get fired, oh, that's a good one.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Good, good, good, good question.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Uh, I think they have to do better than them, than you know you're, you're six and six.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I think you know, then they have to show some flashes.
- 12:25Speaker 1: So I think it's gonna be tough for him.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I don't see him surviving the year, but that's just my personal take 22 and 25 after four years.
- 12:34Speaker 2: It's five and a half wins a year.
- 12:35Speaker 2: He's got to.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I mean in my mind it's got to be.
- 12:37Speaker 2: He's got to start fast because he might not even survive October.
- 12:39Speaker 2: I forget the end of the year.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I bet we'll question is will he survive October?
- 12:42Speaker 2: But he's one of the big power five names.
- 12:44Speaker 2: That's got to go.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Number two on our list Dino Babers 36 and 49.
- 12:48Speaker 2: After seven years he's had two winning seasons.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Uh, Syracuse is a really tough place to win and Dino Babers has done pretty well all things considered.
- 12:57Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I go either way in this one.
- 13:00Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 13:00Speaker 2: Mike hot or?
- 13:01Speaker 1: not.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I think the thing that is in his favor is that the expectations are pretty low there.
- 13:06Speaker 1: As far as you know.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I think he he's kind of flying under the radar.
- 13:11Speaker 1: If he goes bowling again, he, he definitely survives the year.
- 13:14Speaker 1: They've got, you know, unique offense.
- 13:16Speaker 1: He's shown flashes in the past.
- 13:18Speaker 1: They've been able to to get some good wins, maybe not numbers wise, but um, yeah, he's.
- 13:23Speaker 1: He's definitely Getting closer to being on the hot seat.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I don't know if he's there yet.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's been definitely been a beneficiary of the lower expectations for sure.
- 13:32Speaker 2: So like, if I think six and six, I think bowling probably keeps him around.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, if the wheels come off, it gets four and eight.
- 13:37Speaker 2: He's probably his day.
- 13:38Speaker 2: He's eight and four probably extend them for a bajillion years.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So, and the last one is Tom Allen, indiana.
- 13:43Speaker 2: He's 30 and 40.
- 13:44Speaker 2: They just hired a new ad.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Indiana is going to be one of the worst teams in the big 10.
- 13:49Speaker 2: His days are probably numbered.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I think we can both agree that for Dana.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I think we can both agree that for Tom Allen.
- 13:55Speaker 2: His seat is definitely Play twice.
- 14:02Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about some guys that are kind of fringy, that are one of kind of more mainstream.
- 14:05Speaker 2: So our first one these are these are kind of long shots.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Ryan, day One of the incredible coach, 45 and six, five years.
- 14:12Speaker 2: If he loses to Michigan again, is there any chance that he's on the hot seat?
- 14:17Speaker 2: They go 10 and two.
- 14:18Speaker 2: They lose to Michigan and say Ohio State, anybody?
- 14:20Speaker 2: Nope, you are fake news.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Fake news, not hot.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Okay, no, I can not hot, I mean, people aren't going to be happy, but he's not on the hot seat.
- 14:27Speaker 2: No, they're saying all right, let's move on.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Jimbo Fisher, just hired by Patrino, came off five and seven.
- 14:33Speaker 2: He is what's that?
- 14:34Speaker 2: He's 39 and 21 in six seasons there.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Good, not great.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Um, if they don't go bowling again, is he fired.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yes.
- 14:45Speaker 1: His buyout is astronomical, but yeah, I think they'll find a way to get it paid, they.
- 14:56Speaker 1: They'll get rid of him.
- 14:57Speaker 1: If he has a good season, you know, if they finish in the top 15, he's sticking around.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Even if they don't, you know, if they lose a couple, I think he's.
- 15:04Speaker 1: He's still there.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Last one that we'll keep it going.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Steve Sarkisian, texas 13 and 12, recruiting his tail off Texas is the best team in the country, but it's also Texas.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Things are weird in Texas.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You and I actually love to talk about how the team is kind of all over the map and things are just weird.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yeah, every the expected expectation.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I think I picked him for the big 12.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I think you did too.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I think I put him in the playoff.
- 15:27Speaker 2: He's the best team in the conference by far.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Like with that comes a certain amount of pressure, and not just pressure, but Texas pressure.
- 15:34Speaker 2: So what are we talking about for him?
- 15:37Speaker 2: That he would be fired after three years?
- 15:40Speaker 1: I think the wheels would have to completely come off again.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I think if they have a strong season, he's been trending in the right to right to direction.
- 15:45Speaker 1: He's been recruiting well, if they have a good year, you know, get to a new year six or something like that that's fine.
- 15:52Speaker 1: You know, things would have to really go bad for him to go.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I think 10 or two and nine and three is good.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Anything better than that's obviously a great season.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I think eight and four he's probably fine.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I think anything less than that, and we're going to spend all of the 2023 off season talking about Texas hot seat because, yeah, he'll be.
- 16:09Speaker 1: yeah, next year it'll be put up or shut up, but he's got another year regardless.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Sure, I think I like that a lot.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Cool, all right, cool.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Well, obviously, every year there are numerous big jobs that come up every season and those are just some potential candidates.
- 16:23Speaker 2: James Franklin or Jim or Jim Harbaugh might move on.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Somebody might get fired the blue it happens every year.
- 16:29Speaker 2: It's kind of impossible to predict this point, but those are just some potential candidates that we want to kind of throw at you.
- 16:33Speaker 2: All right, good stuff, let's move on to week zero.
- 16:35Speaker 2: So we are actually talking about football.
- 16:38Speaker 2: We are talking about football is going to happen in a few days podcast on a football podcast, real games.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So there are seven games this week, a couple of ranked players.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Most of them are, quite frankly, pretty bad.
- 16:51Speaker 2: So what we're going to do is Mike and I are just going to kind of walk through just some things that we think are interesting, that we reasons we are watching that might want to get your attention.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I'll jump in.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I'll jump right in.
- 17:02Speaker 2: First thing I'm looking for is actually the first game on 230 Navy at Notre Dame in Ireland.
- 17:08Speaker 2: The games 230 playing in Ireland, so it's like 730 local.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I want to see how Sam Hartman fits in.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I know that Navy is putrid.
- 17:16Speaker 2: They just fired their King, ken me a Maloto for giving up butchering his name.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Navy is transitioning one of the worst past defenses ever last season.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I do.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I want to see.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I know that he's not going to test them, but I'm immediately interested in what he looks like coming from the wake system into the Notre Dame system.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely All eyes are going to be on that and it's a weird game because it is in Ireland and Navy is kind of a strange opponent to open up with.
- 17:47Speaker 1: So I wouldn't option.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I wouldn't expect everything to look perfect for Notre Dame by any stretch of the imagination.
- 17:55Speaker 1: They struggled with Navy last year, only winning by three points.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But yeah, I think we should see good signs for for Notre Dame.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Any amount of a close game, you know in the third or fourth quarter might be sounding alarm bells here in Irish fan.
- 18:14Speaker 2: The thing about Notre Dame is like the upside for Notre Dame because they are a pretty darn talented team is, if Sam Hartman is the man, if Sam Hartman goes in there and puts up a wake forest style stat line at Notre Dame, they're in the.
- 18:27Speaker 2: They're in the National Championship conversation.
- 18:29Speaker 2: So the quick, so this is.
- 18:30Speaker 2: This is the kind of potential impact that Sam Hartman has.
- 18:33Speaker 2: So, right away, I want to know am I going to be talking about Notre Dame in December?
- 18:37Speaker 2: And I think we're not going to get the answer to that question in two days, but we're going to see some things that might lead us to that.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So, and I also want to see how they hold up against Navy's run game.
- 18:46Speaker 1: There were times last year when Notre Dame got pushed around a little bit, specifically in that Marshall game, where they lost.
- 18:52Speaker 1: They were beat up on the ground and Navy is obviously not to the level of even Marshall.
- 18:59Speaker 1: But we should expect them to shut down the run and again be surprising to give up some, some big time yardage on the ground to the midshipman.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Yep, what else you got?
- 19:11Speaker 1: Um, not a whole lot.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Honestly, we're gonna be looking at that USC San Jose State game.
- 19:17Speaker 1: The line is like 30 for the Trojans, yeah, um, usc only beat two teams last year, uh, by 30.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It was Rice and Colorado.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So that's a big, that's a big line, that's a big cover.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Um, even for a high powered offense like USC and San Jose State is is not a pushover.
- 19:37Speaker 1: So, um, I don't, I don't know, I don't know if I like them to cover that.
- 19:41Speaker 1: That's just my take on um, on that game.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Other than that, it's really just watching the Caleb Williams show, watching their offense, um, seeing seeing if San Jose State can put up a little bit of a fight.
- 19:51Speaker 2: So yeah, so San Jose State San Jose State was a, is a is a mid level G5 team.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Their bull came down there, actually, and their strength is their offense.
- 19:59Speaker 2: They do have like a six year quarterback and they're returning 70% of the production.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I'm also I'm obviously interested in that game because, again, that's one of those things where USC is like Notre Dame, like one piece that fits, and they are in the national title contention.
- 20:11Speaker 2: For them it's not the offense, it's the defense.
- 20:13Speaker 2: My point San Jose State is okay on offense.
- 20:17Speaker 2: They've got a good quarterback who can throw the ball around and they're bringing a lot back.
- 20:20Speaker 2: If San Jose State tests this USC defense, the red flags are going to be going off like crazy.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I don't, I know it's year one, I know it's the first game.
- 20:32Speaker 2: They're not, they're no, they're in no serious risk of losing.
- 20:35Speaker 2: But if they look bad, if they get run all over, if they're doing other, if they start throwing screen passes and quick slants and those guys, there's breakdowns in the secondary like this is going to be one of those things.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Okay, usc is going to be eight and four again because they can't stop a nosebleed Like that's going to be.
- 20:50Speaker 2: So for me it's.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I want to see what USC's defense at least look God somewhat competent against mid level G5 tool.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a great take.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Usc gave up points all over the place last year, ending the season, you know, against Dylane, with 46 points, 47 against Utah.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So that'll be something to watch.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Maybe give us a little bit of what we can expect on the road, yep.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Last game looking forward to looking forward to is the Ohio San Diego State game and really, just because this is just a gambling play.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Ohio is getting slept on in my opinion and frankly they're bringing back.
- 21:23Speaker 2: They were 10 to four last year.
- 21:24Speaker 2: They returned a ton on offense.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Curtis or Rourke, it's just a good quarterback.
- 21:28Speaker 2: So if you're looking for a money making spot that game's at seven o'clock, san Diego State goes to by Brady Hoek, former Michigan guy, remember him.
- 21:35Speaker 2: He's been around for a bajillion years.
- 21:36Speaker 2: They don't have much identity on offense.
- 21:38Speaker 2: This game opened up giving San Diego State.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I'm seeing Ohio anywhere from plus 115 to plus 130.
- 21:47Speaker 2: It's a really, really good spot for an upset.
- 21:48Speaker 2: So give me the Bobcats to get a first season upset from a gambling spot.
- 21:53Speaker 2: That's gonna be my seven o'clock wager.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Sweet.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Well, I have one for you, and it comes in the form of the New Mexico State Aggies against the UMass Minutemen.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Oh, I'm ready for this.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, new Mexico State is only a six and a half point favorite.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Umass is terrible.
- 22:09Speaker 1: They went they've gone three and 37 since 2019, and 13 and 27 against the spread.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I don't know why.
- 22:16Speaker 1: This is only a one touchdown game.
- 22:18Speaker 1: The Aggies are a decent squad.
- 22:20Speaker 1: They're definitely gonna cover this.
- 22:23Speaker 1: They went seven and six last year.
- 22:24Speaker 1: They're trending in the right direction.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Give me the Aggies to cover against the UMass Minutemen.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna take that bet.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I'm actually with you as well.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I do, like Don Brown, the coach of UMass.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I think eventually they will get better, but it's not gonna be in week one and I think New Mexico Aggies can put it on them.
- 22:40Speaker 2: That spread is too low.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Good stuff, all right.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Well, short pod today because honestly, everyone's got a lot going on and we are getting so close to the action.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's all I got.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Anything else for the good of the order.
- 22:50Speaker 1: No little Mike Blitz quick hit.
- 22:52Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Mike Blitz, quick, I love it.
- 22:54Speaker 2: All right, good stuff.
