- 0:01Hey guys, this is the Daily Ripples and this is Corey and it's just me.
- 0:08So I hope everybody, you know, just listens and we're going to jump around and I'm going
- 0:13to start out with the set aside prayer though.
- 0:16There's different versions, but this is just one of them.
- 0:19It's dear God, please set aside everything I'm, everything I think I know about myself, this
- 0:25book, my disease, these steps, and especially about you, dear God, so that I might have an
- 0:31open mind and a new experience with all these things.
- 0:34Please help me see the truth.
- 0:36But today is June 27th.
- 0:39Wanting what is right.
- 0:41The stone.
- 0:42Lasting change happens when doing what is right becomes something I want, not something
- 0:46I resist.
- 0:48Ripple one practical.
- 0:49Today I will check my attitude towards growth.
- 0:52Am I resisting what I know is good for me, or am I beginning to embrace it?
- 0:56I will learn into the habits and principles that bring life, even if they once felt uncomfortable.
- 1:03As I follow, or ripple to spiritual, as I follow Christ, the Holy Spirit reshapes my desires.
- 1:10What I once resisted begins to feel natural.
- 1:14The Father's grace works within me, not just changing my actions, but changing my heart.
- 1:19Over time, obedience becomes willingness, and willingness becomes joy.
- 1:26When I was first reading this, I was thinking, and I talk about this page a lot, and it's in the 12 and 12.
- 1:31I was thinking about how it talks about on 130, says that first he goes along because he must,
- 1:40but later he discovers a way of life he really wants to live.
- 1:44I think about page 25.
- 1:47You know, I don't know, because when I first came in, started doing this recovery deal,
- 1:54I didn't have anywhere else to go.
- 1:56I didn't have anything else to do.
- 2:01And the way it worked for me was God just aligned my life in these certain things and
- 2:08with these certain people.
- 2:10So when I think about what I did, and it kind of aligns with this, but I did
- 2:17what was in front of me, right? You know, I did what I knew what to do, and the only
- 2:24thing I knew what to do was get help and listen to somebody else. And, you know, I mean,
- 2:31you know, it's this program, man, it's, or, you know, at least, you know, in my, what I
- 2:36had going on, you know, I, you know, there was nothing else I could have done anyways.
- 2:43I don't know if that makes sense, but on page 25, and this is kind of interesting to me,
- 2:51it says, the great fact is just this and nothing less, that we have had deep and effective spiritual
- 2:58experiences which have revolutionized our whole attitude toward life, toward our fellows,
- 3:05and towards God's universe.
- 3:07And when I think about that, right, like, so attitudes, you know, when it's revolution our
- 3:12whole attitude. And, you know, one kind of, you know, a simpler definition of like back then of
- 3:19that attitude is like kind of like positioning of one's mind toward a subject. So my positioning of
- 3:27my mind kind of changed through this process drastically, actually. I mean, completely,
- 3:32100%, completely different person today than I've ever been. And I hope that continues because,
- 3:40You know, I hope I continue to learn and to be obedient and spiritually, you know, and all the things I do today because, you know, I would not change my life today for the world.
- 3:54But, you know, what's interesting on page 25 of the big book, it says our whole attitude toward life, toward our fellows.
- 4:04And so our whole attitude towards life is kind of mental.
- 4:08And toward our fellows is physical.
- 4:10And towards God's universe is spiritual.
- 4:12So, you know, you've got the three sides, right?
- 4:15Physical, mental, spiritual.
- 4:18And so on page 64, you know, that tells me I've got this spiritual malady.
- 4:25And so it says,
- 4:27From it stems all forms of spiritual disease,
- 4:29for we've not only been mentally and physically ill,
- 4:32Mentally and physically, and I've talked about this before, but the mental part is when I
- 4:38stop drinking, when I get the girl back, when I get right back with the job or get a new
- 4:43job because I couldn't keep the old one, or to a more extreme degree, which I've been in
- 4:48these situations too, when I go to institutions, and I get out, and for some reason, that period
- 4:55a ton in between.
- 4:57On my own, I still
- 4:59drink.
- 5:01The physical is, when I take a drink,
- 5:04I want
- 5:05more. Not everybody's like
- 5:07that. Not everybody has that problem.
- 5:09My mother doesn't have that problem.
- 5:12That's
- 5:13the mental and physical.
- 5:16That's it.
- 5:18When the
- 5:19spiritual malady is overcome, we
- 5:21straighten out mentally and physically.
- 5:23You've got mental
- 5:25physical and spiritual and the three sides of that and so when I look at all this work and I
- 5:32think about my positioning towards a subject well I thought the world was against me and so
- 5:42when my positioning today is on page 62 is my troubles are I think of basically of my own making
- 5:50They have a rise out of myself.
- 5:53And I am, when I'm, you know, and that's a weird thing too, because like, when I'm, so when I'm in this place of self-will run riot, and you know, it says in this, in the stone, it says, lasting change happens when doing what is right becomes something I want, not something I resist.
- 6:13Well, you know, it's interesting to me because if I'm in self-will run, well, the book says they arise out of ourselves and the alcoholic is an extreme example of self-will run right, though he usually doesn't think so.
- 6:29So when I think about self-will run running, when I'm running past things, I'm not really looking, I'm not really watching.
- 6:37And so I'm just passing everything by.
- 6:39And I don't really see the hurt I'm doing, how I'm being.
- 6:43And so when it says this, I think, you know, when I'm in that place in my life, which I've been in that place, I don't even know.
- 6:52And it's not like me saying, oh, I'm going to do the next right indicated thing, because I think I am doing the next right indicated thing.
- 7:01And then it goes on, am I resisting what I know is good for me or am I beginning to embrace it?
- 7:05And, you know, when I'm in it, I'm embracing it.
- 7:08I'm not thinking about anything else besides my point of view and my attitude towards that.
- 7:15So the way I'm viewing it.
- 7:16And so when I, you know, and then it goes on to say, I will lean into the habits and principles that bring life, even if they once felt uncomfortable.
- 7:26And I don't know, you know, God, you know, I was talking to a friend of mine today and we were talking about this certain subject.
- 7:33And I said, you know, well, you know, God will show me which way to do this.
- 7:38And, you know, I usually run things till they don't run anymore, right?
- 7:42Just like my drinking, I ran its course completely.
- 7:46I got to a place where, you know, it, you know, I mean, it was just, there was no more
- 7:51options.
- 7:53Well, I mean, I could have gone to the bitter end.
- 7:56But yeah, I like how the spiritual, ripple to the spiritual.
- 7:59As I follow Christ, the Holy Spirit reshapes my desires.
- 8:04And I, you know, that makes sense to me because I alone couldn't do this.
- 8:10On the same page, page 62, it says, neither could we reduce our self-centeredness much by wishing or trying on our own power.
- 8:19So I can't do this by myself.
- 8:21The next sentence says we had to have God's self.
- 8:23So when I look at all this and I think, you know, hey, maybe through this work, God will reshape my desires.
- 8:33but I can't do it alone because I've tried to do it alone.
- 8:37I've tried and I've tried and I've tried to be a better guy.
- 8:40Let me be more honest.
- 8:44Well, you know, the seven deadlies take my anger away.
- 8:48I don't want to do this.
- 8:50All these different things.
- 8:51And, you know, for some reason, I can't live up to that,
- 8:55even if I wanted to.
- 8:57I had to have God's help.
- 8:58And so when I read that, and I think, you know,
- 9:00the next page over, it says we had a new employer. And I look at this different right this second,
- 9:07because when I'm going through this work with a new guy, man, when we're reading this together,
- 9:12it says, when we sincerely took such a position, all sorts of remarkable things followed. And that
- 9:19new position is, he is the principal, we are his agents. He is the father, we are his children,
- 9:27most good ideas are simple. And this concept was the keystone of the new and triumphant art through
- 9:35which we pass the freedom. And the new and triumphant art, the way I was described,
- 9:40was we had morals on one side of the art and philosophical convictions on the other side of the
- 9:45art, but we could not live up to them. So at the top of the art was the keystone. If you can imagine
- 9:50like the St. Louis art. And just imagine the top of that missing. So that's the keystone. And so,
- 9:58you know, that's it. That's God. And when it comes together, this is what it says,
- 10:02and this is the promises of that. It says, when we sincerely took such a position,
- 10:07all sorts of remarkable things followed. We had a new employer. And it's going to tell me what,
- 10:12you know, what that looks like. Being all powerful, he provided what we needed if we
- 10:16kept close to him and performed his work well. Well, when I look at this right this minute,
- 10:22I'm not actively about to do another inventory right this second. But when I'm with a new guy
- 10:28and I look at this, I'm like, well, what's his work, I wonder? Well, in chronological order,
- 10:34the next number is four after three, and we're talking about the third step. So I point out to
- 10:39them, well, I imagine his work is the fourth step. And then it says, established on such a footing,
- 10:45we became less and less interested in ourselves, our little plans and designs, more and more we
- 10:51became interested in seeing what we could contribute to life as we felt new power flow in. So that's
- 10:58crazy because, you know, I hear so many different people talk about, I'm powerless, I'm powerless
- 11:05against this job, these people, places, and things. I think that's great. And I think, you know,
- 11:10They say that a lot in treatment centers.
- 11:11But this book tells me, as I felt new power flow in.
- 11:16So I got this power, right?
- 11:18As we enjoyed peace of mind, as we discovered we could face life successfully, as we became conscious of his presence,
- 11:26we began to lose our fear today, tomorrow, or the hereafter.
- 11:30We were reborn.
- 11:32Then it says we're now at step three.
- 11:36So, you know, I think it's cool because, like, you know, it's not me doing this.
- 11:41It's not me being a better Corey.
- 11:43It's not me trying to practice all these things.
- 11:47You know, there's some vigilant things I have to do.
- 11:49I got to, you know, I have to watch.
- 11:50I have to be vigilant in this work.
- 11:53I have to be vigilant through my day.
- 11:57But, you know, I think, you know, at the end of the day, it says right here, it says,
- 12:00the Father's grace works within me.
- 12:02Not just changing my actions, but changing my heart.
- 12:07Over time, obedience becomes willingness.
- 12:10And willingness becomes joy.
- 12:15We'll end this with a prayer.
- 12:18Father, shape my desires to align with what is right.
- 12:21Through Your Spirit, help me embrace the life You are leading me into.
- 12:25Through Your Son, Amen.
- 12:27Thank you, guys.
