Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome in to another episode
- 0:12Speaker 1: of DiCecco Daily. It's Andrew DiCecco, Eagles beat reporter for InsideTheBirds.com.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And man, was that game tough to watch. The Tanner
- 0:22Speaker 1: McKee-led Eagles offense did not give the crowd much to
- 0:26Speaker 1: cheer about on Sunday afternoon, and the Eagles dropped their
- 0:29Speaker 1: fourth straight, falling to the Carolina Panthers 25-14. Not a
- 0:35Speaker 1: lot of highlights, more lowlights, in this game. But let's
- 0:41Speaker 1: kind of go through the late game sequence before I
- 0:43Speaker 1: get to my takeaways, because a 19-yard touchdown connection between
- 0:47Speaker 1: Tanner McKee and wide receiver Devontae Smith briefly revitalized the
- 0:52Speaker 1: fans in attendance, and they pulled within five points with 10.42
- 0:56Speaker 1: remaining in the final frame. But the defense forced a
- 0:59Speaker 1: three and out, and the Eagles' offensive surge would prove
- 1:02Speaker 1: to be short-lived because an issue with the quarterback center exchange,
- 1:07Speaker 1: Jake Majors snapped low, and It led to a loss
- 1:09Speaker 1: of 12 yards, digging a hole that the offense just
- 1:12Speaker 1: wasn't equipped to climb out of, even with plenty of
- 1:15Speaker 1: time remaining. It just never felt like they were going
- 1:17Speaker 1: to be able to dig themselves out of that hole.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And an Eagles defense that had been on the field
- 1:23Speaker 1: for what seems like most of the game surrendered a
- 1:27Speaker 1: late score via a busted coverage, slamming the door on
- 1:30Speaker 1: a potential come-from-behind win, and that was when Bryce Young
- 1:33Speaker 1: found tight end Tommy Tremble for his second score of
- 1:37Speaker 1: the afternoon. Tanner McKee heaved to Devontae Smith on a
- 1:42Speaker 1: fourth and 17 on the Eagles' ensuing possession, fell incomplete,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and the Panthers took over with 4.26 remaining and controlled
- 1:49Speaker 1: the clock the rest of the way. And you just
- 1:51Speaker 1: knew the way the game was going to end. It
- 1:54Speaker 1: wasn't pretty by any means. Tanner McKee completed 26 of
- 1:57Speaker 1: 45 pass attempts for 2.15 and a touchdown. Running back
- 2:02Speaker 1: Damian Pierce was the team's lone ball carrier Sunday afternoon,
- 2:06Speaker 1: and he carried 12 times for 35 yards and a touchdown.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Wide receiver Devontae Smith led the way in the receiving game.
- 2:13Speaker 1: He caught seven of 14 targets for 75 yards and
- 2:16Speaker 1: a touchdown. The week six inactives, wide receiver Hollywood Brown,
- 2:20Speaker 1: quarterback Joe Milton, who was the third quarterback, running back
- 2:24Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley, defensive back Michael Carter II, outside linebacker A.J. Epinesa,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and outside linebacker Jalix Hunt. Those who were active but
- 2:32Speaker 1: did not play, quarterback Cole Payton, running back Jaden Blue,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and center Drew Kendall. Defensively, Arnold Evacati led the unit
- 2:42Speaker 1: in tackles with nine, while outside linebacker Nolan Smith picked
- 2:46Speaker 1: up his third sack of the season. Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
- 2:50Speaker 1: and defensive tackle Jordan Davis split a sack of Panthers
- 2:53Speaker 1: quarterback Bryce Young. Now let's get to the observations. If
- 2:58Speaker 1: the Eagles didn't dress Drew Kendall, the Eagles would have
- 3:01Speaker 1: went into Sunday's game with just seven healthy offensive linemen.
- 3:05Speaker 1: That's almost unheard of. But the second-year pro, Kendall, has
- 3:08Speaker 1: been dealing with a knee injury, as I've talked about
- 3:11Speaker 1: for the past couple weeks, and he entered the game
- 3:13Speaker 1: as questionable. And he was being watched closely during warm-ups,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and it was determined that Kendall would serve as emergency depth,
- 3:21Speaker 1: break glass in case of emergency, because I'm sure that
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm going to get a lot of questions about that.
- 3:27Speaker 1: He wasn't moving around very fluidly during warm-ups. He certainly
- 3:31Speaker 1: had a hitch to his walk. And there's actually a
- 3:33Speaker 1: video on my ex-account where he's walking and talking with
- 3:36Speaker 1: offensive line coach Chris Cooper. And while he was doing that,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Jake Majors was snapping the football and working alongside Tyler Steen.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So center Jake Majors made his second NFL start with
- 3:49Speaker 1: Willie Lampkin reprising his role as left guard for the
- 3:52Speaker 1: second consecutive week. And on an offense absent of explosive plays,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I was surprised to see Hollywood Brown inactive because his
- 4:01Speaker 1: 4-3 speed could theoretically stretch a defense or at minimum
- 4:05Speaker 1: force coordinators to respect his field-stretching ability. Now, he's never
- 4:09Speaker 1: really been used as a vertical threat. So it's easy
- 4:12Speaker 1: to say that when you look at his speed. But
- 4:15Speaker 1: having him out there forces teams to potentially play them
- 4:18Speaker 1: a little bit differently. And it gives you a potentially
- 4:21Speaker 1: different dimension. So without Brown, the Eagles just don't have
- 4:24Speaker 1: any semblance of a vertical dimension apart from Devontae Smith.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And the same can be said for Jaden Blue, who
- 4:30Speaker 1: was active but did not log a snap. Sure, I
- 4:33Speaker 1: get that he joined the Eagles practice squad just before
- 4:36Speaker 1: the season. But a big part of his appeal... is
- 4:39Speaker 1: his open field elusiveness and home run hitting ability. There
- 4:43Speaker 1: has to be a world in which you can get
- 4:45Speaker 1: him three or four touches and mix him in because
- 4:49Speaker 1: someone like that can maybe provide a spark of some sort.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And with Damian Pierce being more of a downhill runner,
- 4:57Speaker 1: Mixing in someone with Blue's skill set for a handful
- 4:59Speaker 1: of plays even might have helped open things up a
- 5:02Speaker 1: little bit more, especially with Sunday's number two running back
- 5:05Speaker 1: Carson Steele exiting early with an injury, and we'll talk
- 5:08Speaker 1: more about that later. In other depth chart-related news, the
- 5:12Speaker 1: Eagles opened in base defense to start with Cooper DeGene
- 5:15Speaker 1: aligning at safety opposite Drew McCuba, but when shifting to
- 5:18Speaker 1: its nickel personnel, Kenny Moore, not Marcus Epps, paired with McCuba.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Last week, defensive coordinator praised the play of Moore, who
- 5:26Speaker 1: was pressed into service in London, remember, once Michael Carter
- 5:30Speaker 1: left the game with the abdomen injury. And Vic said,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I think when you consider the lack of background, both
- 5:35Speaker 1: he's never played safety in his career, gets here after
- 5:37Speaker 1: training camp, limited reps with our defense, he's getting some
- 5:40Speaker 1: in scout team. I thought he did a pretty damn
- 5:42Speaker 1: good job considering the circumstances. I talked to Kenny Moore
- 5:46Speaker 1: after the game about his chemistry with Drew McCuba, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: he said, in meetings, I sit right by Drew and
- 5:51Speaker 1: Cooper DeGene, and it's a lot of tailored communication. Coach
- 5:55Speaker 1: Joe Casper does a lot of great making sure that
- 5:57Speaker 1: everybody's on the same page, and it's a piece at
- 6:00Speaker 1: the end of the day. So we spend a lot
- 6:02Speaker 1: of time together throughout the week, whether it's me and Drew,
- 6:04Speaker 1: the safeties in general, collectively all together with Coach Casper,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and he does a great job at making sure that
- 6:09Speaker 1: we understand what the expectation is. It was interesting. where
- 6:15Speaker 1: I was interested to see how offensive coordinator Sean Manning
- 6:18Speaker 1: would approach the offense with Tanner McKee at the controls.
- 6:21Speaker 1: While the offensive line is mostly comprised of reserves and
- 6:25Speaker 1: running room has been difficult to come by, I was
- 6:27Speaker 1: still expecting more of a concerted effort to establish the
- 6:30Speaker 1: run early. And I know what you're thinking. Why would
- 6:32Speaker 1: it be? Why would it work now if it hasn't
- 6:35Speaker 1: worked all season? But you got to try. You got
- 6:37Speaker 1: to try to create something a little bit different. Mix
- 6:40Speaker 1: things up. Go more inside zone power. Stretch plays. Whatever
- 6:45Speaker 1: you got to do just to mix it up and
- 6:47Speaker 1: try to jumpstart this thing. And given the inexperience at quarterback,
- 6:51Speaker 1: that just made all the sense in the world. But
- 6:53Speaker 1: there was also no quick game. Under center was lacking.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Expected hallmarks of Mannion's scheme. and instead the passes to
- 7:00Speaker 1: the flat seemingly replaced a largely ineffective running game But
- 7:05Speaker 1: it still isn't clear what exactly the Eagles are looking
- 7:07Speaker 1: to accomplish offensively. We still don't know what their identity is.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And it seems like it's a lot of things kind
- 7:13Speaker 1: of mashed together. And they're still trying to find themselves.
- 7:17Speaker 1: And we're going into week seven. So that's certainly not
- 7:20Speaker 1: what the Eagles envisioned when they rolled this out. Clearly,
- 7:23Speaker 1: they're depleted right now. But still, you would like to
- 7:26Speaker 1: see some things that they can hang their hats on
- 7:29Speaker 1: when things are a little bit dire or challenging. And
- 7:31Speaker 1: we just haven't seen that. Tanner McKee finished the first
- 7:35Speaker 1: half completing 13-23 pass attempts for 94 yards. There were
- 7:39Speaker 1: some drops, an early one from Makai Lemon and one
- 7:41Speaker 1: later in the half from Dallas Goddard. There were also
- 7:44Speaker 1: some miscommunication. I can think of one early. I think
- 7:47Speaker 1: it was on the left sideline to Elijah Moore. There
- 7:50Speaker 1: was another one later to Dontavian Wicks. But they also
- 7:53Speaker 1: had a couple of penalties that stifled momentum. And still,
- 7:57Speaker 1: as the game progressed, it appeared as though McKee settled in.
- 8:02Speaker 1: But that late first half surge did not carry over
- 8:05Speaker 1: as the Eagles struggled to protect against the Panthers' blitzes.
- 8:08Speaker 1: McKee was under siege and in a constant time crunch.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But the lapses in protection, let's not forget, or the
- 8:14Speaker 1: inability to implement an in-game solution, that's not exclusive to
- 8:17Speaker 1: this week. That's been a prevailing theme. The Eagles also
- 8:21Speaker 1: entered Sunday shorthanded at the edge rusher position, with J.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Wicks Hunt and A.J. Epinesa sidelined, and headliner Jonathan Grenard
- 8:28Speaker 1: returning from an ankle injury and seemingly on a pitch count.
- 8:31Speaker 1: They needed to lean on Smith to shoulder a higher
- 8:33Speaker 1: volume of snaps, but Nolan Smith, unfortunately, who collected a
- 8:37Speaker 1: first-half sack, by the way, he exited with a concussion,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and that left only Jonathan Grenard, Arnold Ebikedi, and rookie
- 8:44Speaker 1: Keyshawn James Newby to absorb the remaining snaps. And James Newby,
- 8:49Speaker 1: by the way, was elevated from the practice squad and
- 8:51Speaker 1: appearing in his first NFL game. Upon first watch, I
- 8:55Speaker 1: actually thought James Newby performed fairly well, apart from a
- 8:59Speaker 1: neutral zone infraction called against him and the running into
- 9:02Speaker 1: the kicker penalty, in which it looked like he was
- 9:04Speaker 1: going to sort of storm through there for a block
- 9:07Speaker 1: or get a piece of it at least. But for
- 9:09Speaker 1: a rookie playing his first NFL snaps, he played fast
- 9:11Speaker 1: and confidently, I thought, and his 4.5 speed was apparent
- 9:15Speaker 1: on a handful of rushes, and one in particular was
- 9:18Speaker 1: that definitely impacted Bryce Young and maybe forced his hand
- 9:21Speaker 1: into an intentional grounding. So depending on the health issues
- 9:26Speaker 1: of Hunt, Epinesa, and Smith this week, James Newby may
- 9:28Speaker 1: have to play quite a bit on Monday night. We're
- 9:31Speaker 1: still obviously very early in the process, but it's something
- 9:33Speaker 1: to keep in the back of your mind. And when
- 9:35Speaker 1: the snap share comes out Monday morning, I'm really curious
- 9:38Speaker 1: to see how many Grenard played. And I'm also curious
- 9:42Speaker 1: to learn more from Fangio whether an uptick in snaps
- 9:46Speaker 1: can be expected or if the Eagles continue to take
- 9:48Speaker 1: a more cautious approach so to ensure that they don't
- 9:52Speaker 1: run the risk of re-injuring it or aggravating it further
- 9:56Speaker 1: if he just needs to simply get ramped up because
- 9:58Speaker 1: he hasn't played a lot of football this year.

- 11:37Speaker 2: your home, you deserve the freedom to choose your own adventure,
- 11:41Speaker 2: and that goes for your power bill too. Right now
- 11:43Speaker 2: across the U.S., Americans have the potential to harness limitless, clean,
- 11:47Speaker 2: affordable energy. We could be powering our hospitals, our schools,
- 11:51Speaker 2: our farms, and so much more. In some places, this
- 11:54Speaker 2: abundant local power is already helping lower utility bills and
- 11:59Speaker 2: creating jobs. But depending on where you live, you may
- 12:02Speaker 2: not have the option to choose Limitless Energy.
- 12:04Speaker 1: For your household.
- 12:05Speaker 2: That has to change. We should all get to choose
- 12:08Speaker 2: the energy we pay for. Cheaper, cleaner, Limitless Energy is
- 12:13Speaker 2: out there.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Let's find more ways to use it.

- 12:21Speaker 1: Last week, Fangio confirmed his intent of rotating linebackers Jihad
- 12:24Speaker 1: Campbell and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. Now, Campbell started the game.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And that was expected, seemingly handling most of the first
- 12:32Speaker 1: half reps. But the second-year linebacker, however, appeared to have
- 12:35Speaker 1: contributed to the second quarter Tommy Tremble touchdown. Now, I'm
- 12:39Speaker 1: not going to be a hypocrite here because I'm not
- 12:40Speaker 1: going to try to tell you who was responsible for
- 12:44Speaker 1: what without hearing from the defensive coordinator and getting a
- 12:47Speaker 1: little bit more clarity on that. But it looked like
- 12:50Speaker 1: he had something to do with it, at least. But
- 12:52Speaker 1: Trotter Jr. was on the field for most of the
- 12:54Speaker 1: second half, and it seemed– It seemed that way anyway,
- 12:58Speaker 1: and he combined for five tackles and a half sack.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm interested in hearing Fangio's impressions regarding the rotations and
- 13:06Speaker 1: the factors that determined it on Sunday. The sense I
- 13:09Speaker 1: get is that because it was always the plan, he
- 13:11Speaker 1: rode the hot hand for continuity purposes, but we'll find
- 13:14Speaker 1: out more. I think it's Wednesday when they speak this
- 13:17Speaker 1: week because the Eagles play Monday night. Some numbers to consider.
- 13:21Speaker 1: There were 24 penalties for 233 yards in this game.
- 13:25Speaker 1: The Panthers accounted for 13 and still managed to win
- 13:28Speaker 1: by nine points. The Eagles were six of 15 on
- 13:31Speaker 1: third downs, so that's still a problem, and they're constantly
- 13:35Speaker 1: finding themselves behind the sticks. They haven't gotten that rectified yet.
- 13:39Speaker 1: The Panthers, at 34-48, won the time of possession battle
- 13:42Speaker 1: over the Eagles, who had 25-12. The Eagles rolled up
- 13:45Speaker 1: 17 first downs to the Panthers' 24, running 61 plays
- 13:47Speaker 1: to the Panthers' 74. To expand on the latter, the
- 13:54Speaker 1: defensive snap share is excessive. For perspective, against the Commanders
- 13:58Speaker 1: in Week 1, the Eagles' defense racked up 70 snaps.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And in games against Chicago, where they had 72 snaps,
- 14:04Speaker 1: Los Angeles, 84, and Jacksonville, 72, they all exceeded the
- 14:09Speaker 1: 70-snap threshold. Sunday afternoon was no exception, with the snaps
- 14:13Speaker 1: also hiking over 70. The defense typically gets out to
- 14:18Speaker 1: a fast start early and can get off the field early,
- 14:21Speaker 1: But there's a common thread late in games where they
- 14:25Speaker 1: become more susceptible. And perhaps that can be traced back
- 14:28Speaker 1: to fatigue as the offense continues to pile up these
- 14:31Speaker 1: three and outs at an alarming rate. But the defense
- 14:34Speaker 1: keeps the Eagles in games, to be clear. and the
- 14:37Speaker 1: offense has not been able to sustain drives. I think
- 14:40Speaker 1: the defense performed well in this game. I'm just going
- 14:41Speaker 1: to say that right now. And how often or how
- 14:45Speaker 1: much is it, how realistic is it to continue to
- 14:48Speaker 1: put them in really difficult spots? They're always on the field.
- 14:51Speaker 1: They were on the field for most of the second half.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Eventually that dam is going to break. They're human beings,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and I thought they performed really well. They were really
- 14:59Speaker 1: stout early in that game. They held that 3-0 lead
- 15:02Speaker 1: or 3-0. They were down 3-0, and they held that
- 15:05Speaker 1: for a while. scoring 14 points in the NFL is
- 15:09Speaker 1: not going to win you very many games. You have
- 15:11Speaker 1: to be able to contribute as an offense and make
- 15:14Speaker 1: it a more balanced approach because how much longer can
- 15:18Speaker 1: you expect this defense to continuously be out there getting
- 15:21Speaker 1: their stops, getting off the field, only to have to
- 15:23Speaker 1: go back out there? I mean, that is something that's
- 15:27Speaker 1: been on my radar for quite a while now. And
- 15:29Speaker 1: I think last season you saw a little bit of that.
- 15:32Speaker 1: But this year... My radar is up, and I'm paying
- 15:35Speaker 1: pretty close attention to that. I think they've been playing
- 15:38Speaker 1: pretty good football early in games, and there's no coincidence
- 15:42Speaker 1: that later in games you start to see a little
- 15:45Speaker 1: bit more vulnerability there. The running back room continues to
- 15:50Speaker 1: be ravaged by injuries. I've never seen anything like this.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It's hard to believe. Following a four-yard reception in the
- 15:56Speaker 1: first quarter, Carson Steele came up grabbing his arm and
- 16:00Speaker 1: took a trip to the medical tent. He then exited
- 16:03Speaker 1: the field through the visitor's tunnel, presumably for an x-ray,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and he was listed as questionable with a shoulder injury. Now,
- 16:09Speaker 1: Carson Steele did return shortly thereafter, but would again hurt
- 16:13Speaker 1: that same shoulder on a kickoff, and he walked gingerly
- 16:16Speaker 1: off the field and was declared out for the afternoon.
- 16:20Speaker 1: That left only Damian Pierce and Jaden Blue to shoulder
- 16:22Speaker 1: the carries, and Jaden Blue, as I mentioned, didn't have
- 16:26Speaker 1: any carries. And if Saquon Barkley doesn't return for the
- 16:29Speaker 1: team's Monday night matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles
- 16:32Speaker 1: may have to sign another running back to keep the
- 16:34Speaker 1: total at three. So let's talk about some of the
- 16:37Speaker 1: injuries today because Jordan Davis, later in that game, he
- 16:41Speaker 1: was down for a while. He was walking very gingerly
- 16:45Speaker 1: off the field. He needed some assistance. He went into
- 16:47Speaker 1: the medical tent and then he headed indoors. He needed
- 16:50Speaker 1: help walking off. And I saw him with A lot
- 16:54Speaker 1: of ice wrapped around his right ankle, I believe it was,
- 16:58Speaker 1: and that's certainly troubling. He did speak after the game,
- 17:02Speaker 1: but you're talking about injuries now to Jordan Davis, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: we'll have to wait and see what that means. Nolan
- 17:08Speaker 1: Smith sustained the concussion. J-Wicks hunts out, and we'll see
- 17:14Speaker 1: what the timeline is there.
- 17:15Speaker 2: A.J.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Epinesa is out. So all of a sudden, Michael Carter
- 17:20Speaker 1: II is out. And all of a sudden, the Eagles
- 17:23Speaker 1: are now down some key players on the defensive side.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And this week will certainly determine the length of those injuries.
- 17:32Speaker 1: You know, you're hoping for, you know, the human element
- 17:36Speaker 1: of this thing, that they're back out there and all
- 17:38Speaker 1: is well. But man, are these things starting to really
- 17:41Speaker 1: pile up. And it was really just the offense that
- 17:45Speaker 1: was sustaining these blows. And it was blow after blow.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But now you're seeing it trickle over to the defensive side.
- 17:51Speaker 1: And how much can you withstand as a football team?
- 17:55Speaker 1: And I will say this. At the end of the
- 17:58Speaker 1: game in the locker room, Jordan Mailata, almost upon us
- 18:02Speaker 1: walking in, said, I'm ready to talk. And he brought
- 18:05Speaker 1: all the reporters to the center of the locker room
- 18:07Speaker 1: and really held court there for 30 minutes answering questions.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And I said this before, but I want to reemphasize this.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I have the utmost respect for everyone, but especially right
- 18:21Speaker 1: now Jordan Mailata because he's going– you can see he's
- 18:25Speaker 1: going through it. He is one of the few remaining
- 18:31Speaker 1: elder statesmen there. He is trying his best to keep
- 18:35Speaker 1: everything together. There's a lot of newness around him. He
- 18:39Speaker 1: was playing alongside Willie Lampkin. There's Jake Majors is out there.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Markel Bell is out there. There's no Jalen Hurts, who
- 18:45Speaker 1: was placed on injured reserve on Saturday afternoon. So Jordan
- 18:52Speaker 1: Mailata and no Lane Johnson, no Cam Juergens. So Jordan
- 18:56Speaker 1: Mailata is answering for most of this. And He takes
- 19:00Speaker 1: a lot of pride in his leadership and controlling his
- 19:02Speaker 1: emotions and leading the direction of this team. And he
- 19:05Speaker 1: stood there for close to half an hour, if I
- 19:07Speaker 1: had to say, answering all these questions and just being
- 19:11Speaker 1: very candid. And he talked a lot about want to
- 19:15Speaker 1: and a ton of things. But Tanner McKee in this game,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I mean, he looks scattershot. He... ball. He was hanging
- 19:26Speaker 1: on to it a little bit longer, looked indecisive. It
- 19:29Speaker 1: was sort of a carryover from the Tanner McKee that
- 19:31Speaker 1: we saw in training camp. And again, I have to
- 19:34Speaker 1: go back and rewatch the game to get a very
- 19:36Speaker 1: clear depiction of where he was going wrong, but it
- 19:40Speaker 1: didn't look like he had, I mean, he wasn't having
- 19:44Speaker 1: his strongest game either. Okay.
- 19:46Speaker 2: You know, those pieces in your closet that you find
- 19:48Speaker 2: yourself wearing on a There's the sweater that goes with everything,

- 21:32Speaker 2: Nobody loves grilling more than me. It could be 30
- 21:34Speaker 2: degrees and I'll be out there grilling burgers and steaks.
- 21:38Speaker 2: But the one thing that I really can't stand is
- 21:40Speaker 2: losing my fish and my veggies because they just can't
- 21:44Speaker 2: grill without falling through. That's why I've been using Hexclad's
- 21:47Speaker 2: BBQ Collection. It's bringing hybrid technology outdoors with products specifically

- 21:57Speaker 2: that normally don't cooperate on a traditional grill. The hex-clad

- 22:19Speaker 2: you're cooking multiple portions at one time. Last week, I
- 22:22Speaker 2: grilled the best surf and turf my style, which is
- 22:25Speaker 2: salmon and ribs, and lost none of it because I used...

- 23:12Speaker 1: I mean, I would look across the offensive side of
- 23:14Speaker 1: the ball and you'd be hard-pressed to find a player
- 23:16Speaker 1: who did perform well, but I didn't think that in
- 23:20Speaker 1: his first start in a meaningful game that Tanner had
- 23:26Speaker 1: a strong game. And I understand that he's playing with
- 23:28Speaker 1: backup offensive linemen. And upon first watch, it certainly looked
- 23:32Speaker 1: like they, some of those guys had some plays they
- 23:36Speaker 1: would like to have back Jake majors with the snap.
- 23:39Speaker 1: And there was some pressure, but I think sometimes when
- 23:43Speaker 1: you're watching it in real time, It may look like
- 23:47Speaker 1: there are certain culprits that are continuously getting beat or
- 23:50Speaker 1: having some lapses, but it's never as good as you
- 23:53Speaker 1: think and it's never as bad as you think. And
- 23:55Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni will tell you this, it's a shared blame.
- 23:58Speaker 1: No one played well on that side of the ball.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Devontae Smith might be the exception. I think Dontavion Wicks
- 24:04Speaker 1: late in the game had a nice reception, made some
- 24:06Speaker 1: yards after the catch. You could see he was... desperately
- 24:09Speaker 1: trying to create a spark there late in the game.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And then he came up injured. He was in the tent,
- 24:14Speaker 1: came out with a helmet. And that's something I'll also
- 24:18Speaker 1: be keeping an eye on. But yeah, I mean, there's
- 24:22Speaker 1: no way, there's no real positives to take away from
- 24:26Speaker 1: the offense right now. And that game had 24 penalties.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I've never seen anything like it. So really from pillar
- 24:34Speaker 1: to post, I thought that the Eagles just got They
- 24:37Speaker 1: just got outclassed by the Carolina Panthers, and I want
- 24:40Speaker 1: to reemphasize this while we're talking about it. I thought
- 24:43Speaker 1: the defense played well. They performed as well as you
- 24:47Speaker 1: could hope, but as I outlined earlier in this podcast,
- 24:50Speaker 1: the snap shares are continuously racking up, and we're only
- 24:55Speaker 1: entering week seven, but they've been out on the field
- 24:57Speaker 1: for an extensive amount of time, and I don't know
- 25:00Speaker 1: that it's fair or realistic to expect them to be
- 25:03Speaker 1: able to continue to get these three and outs, three
- 25:05Speaker 1: and outs. And then only to have to go back
- 25:08Speaker 1: out there after their own offense gets a three and out.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And eventually, as I like to say, that dam will break.
- 25:15Speaker 1: So perspective is really important here. You never want to
- 25:18Speaker 1: see these late collapses in games or even leakiness. And
- 25:23Speaker 1: I think the defense has been susceptible late in these games.
- 25:25Speaker 1: But there's always context, right? There's always context behind it.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And I don't think that there's any coincidence that you're
- 25:31Speaker 1: seeing it happen, not in the early stages of games,
- 25:34Speaker 1: except for Chicago, right? You're seeing it more often in
- 25:37Speaker 1: the third and fourth quarter, and that's where the snaps
- 25:39Speaker 1: are starting to accrue. That's a problem, especially when it
- 25:45Speaker 1: doesn't seem like the offense is taking steps in the
- 25:48Speaker 1: right direction. So that's kind of where things stand. Oh,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and I'm sure I'll get questions about Zach Ertz. He's
- 25:54Speaker 1: out of elevations, and he's still on the practice squad.
- 25:57Speaker 1: The Eagles did not sign him to the 53-man roster,
- 26:00Speaker 1: and we'll see where they decide to go. They also
- 26:03Speaker 1: have a couple other players who are still on injured reserve.
- 26:06Speaker 1: who had their practice window open at that position, and
- 26:09Speaker 1: Grant Calcaterra and Eli Stowers. So we'll get a little
- 26:12Speaker 1: bit more clarity on that this week and see if
- 26:15Speaker 1: they're out there and being able to get the practice
- 26:17Speaker 1: into maybe a full capacity. So the Eagles have some
- 26:21Speaker 1: interesting decisions, as they seemingly have had every week with
- 26:25Speaker 1: regard to the roster, and we'll find out where they
- 26:28Speaker 1: go from here and The next time you see them
- 26:31Speaker 1: will be Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field against the
- 26:34Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys. That's going to do it for this episode
- 26:37Speaker 1: of the Checo Daily. I'm Andrew DiCecco. I'll catch you
- 26:40Speaker 1: all on the next one.
