Transcript
- 0:01The sun is shining out a clout in the sky. We wouldn't know because
- 0:07we're so happy inside. Some peoples, but we would rather sit on down
- 0:16and talk some movies. We're the evid Indoorsmen. Come listen to our show.
- 0:22We're the evid Indoorsmen at home on the go. We're the Evidendorsmen.
- 0:29We hope you love it, so come on in and stay. We'll do
- 0:34our best to excuse my indoors man. What is happening? I'm Rob Lundquist
- 0:43Ton, I'm Boogs, and we are the Avid Indorsment. We really are.
- 0:48Hello everyone, Hello, how are you buddy? I'm good. I
- 0:54just saw you yesterday. I know it was it was so fun in real
- 0:58life. That was fun. I'm so glad I got to go with you
- 1:02and your wife because that was the best part of the evening. It was.
- 1:06Yeah. We went and checked out Game one of the Western Conference Finals.
- 1:11A lot has happened since the last time we recorded. Yeah Wow.
- 1:15Kelsey and I went to Game six after the last one, and that was
- 1:19one of the coolest things ever. And then the Timberwolves went on to win
- 1:23Game seven, which was for sure the best, the best game of the
- 1:30Timberwolves entire yea un right so far? Yeah, yeah, absolutely the biggest
- 1:40game they've ever had. And yeah, so we were all pumped up to
- 1:45go to Game one, which was really fun. To be fair, it
- 1:49was wasn't what we wanted. The Timberwolves did lose. It was a close
- 1:53game. We just couldn't put them away and then just kind of gave it
- 1:56to him. But I had a really nice time. It was fun.
- 1:57I did too wet to be silly. It was great. We did.
- 2:01My throat is nowhere near as bad as it was for the game six one,
- 2:07right right right. I was actively trying not to go crazy, maybe
- 2:14just calm down a little bit. Yep, except the Chick fil A part.
- 2:17I got mad about that. Yeah, I just I know that he
- 2:22appreciated some chicken. He's a man who likes to eat. I don't know
- 2:24why he couldn't have given us that. He could have let us had the
- 2:27chicken. Yeah. So for people who don't know, if they missed two
- 2:30free throws in a row the other team anyway, yeah, in the last
- 2:36quarter, you get free chicken. And they did that at Game six and
- 2:42it was the biggest cheer of the night. Yeah. Like we won by
- 2:46forty five points, and the biggest cheer of the night was knowing that we
- 2:50would get free Yeah, a free chicken sandwich from Chick fil A. I
- 2:53did see a replay. Did you see Luca laughing about it after he missed
- 2:57the first one? Did you ever see that? It's pretty funny. It's
- 3:00pretty funny. It's like, yeah, that's good. We were all surprised
- 3:07he he was the one who missed it. Yeah, for sure. But
- 3:10go wolves, long story ahead of us, let's do this thing. I'm
- 3:15still feeling good about it because we did not play our best. We looked
- 3:19real gast and it still was a very close game. Now Dallas wasn't their
- 3:23best either, so we'll see. Man who knows. Yeah, it's the
- 3:27Western Conference Finals, slick. They're both good, right, I guess so
- 3:30they're both good. I just feel like I feel like the focus wasn't there,
- 3:35and I want them to be focused and ready. It's the conference finals.
- 3:38I think a little bit of like an emotional letdown. They beat the
- 3:40champs and against game seven, you know, like they just they just might
- 3:46not have been all the way there, which sucks, but I you know,
- 3:47it is what it is. It is, so yeah, we'll see
- 3:52I think they're wolves wolves and six fingers crossed fingers fingers cross. What was
- 3:59the last movie watched? Sort of in the sports realm? I watched a
- 4:03movie I'd never seen before, but it came out in twenty sixteen. I'm
- 4:06curious if you ever saw it. This is the Richard link Later piece everybody
- 4:13wants some Did you ever see that? They did the baseball Yeah, it's
- 4:16a baseball movie about I guess they're college baseball kids in the eighties. I
- 4:24really like this movie. I thought it was pretty fun. A ton of
- 4:28pretty recognizable people in it. Zoe Deutsch's in it, that Tyler is it?
- 4:32Hecklin? Is that how you say his name? That's what its like,
- 4:36It's gotta be Hecklin. Whyatt Wrustles in it? Glenn Powell's in it?
- 4:43And then just you know a bunch of other folks that you might recognize,
- 4:46Like what made you want to watch it? Honestly? I was just
- 4:49kind of cruising through and I just I saw it on I think it was
- 4:55on Amazon Prime or something, and I was just like, oh, Linklater,
- 5:00you know a movie like I don't think I've ever seen this. I
- 5:02don't think I've ever heard it. I actually did the a thing I almost
- 5:06never do. I watched the trailer for it, like you know, you
- 5:10can click on the little trailer thing yep, and I was like, well,
- 5:13that looks like a hoot and holler. I think I might check this
- 5:15out because it looked like kind of a fun cology party movie. And it
- 5:21was exactly that. And it was like a little bit of a love story
- 5:25to the eighties I think for sure, which I remember really plot driven more
- 5:31character driven one hundred percent. Yeah, because there's almost no plot to it
- 5:35really, I mean, it's sort of the It just encapsulates the weekend before
- 5:41school starts basically, and which is hilarious because yeah, Dazed and Confused is
- 5:46the last day of school. And I did read that like that was for
- 5:50the seventies. This is for the eighties, was like kind of the idea,
- 5:54and sure, yeah it was neat. It was. I did find
- 5:57myself being like, oh, yeah, I was born in the eighties,
- 5:59but like I didn't experience the eighties obviously, you know what I mean.
- 6:02And so but it was still fun to watch, and I thought I thought
- 6:05was cool. It was a bunch of you know, Jack's being dumb and
- 6:10you know, relationships with ladies and stuff like that. It was it was
- 6:13a fun movie. I liked it quite a bit. Actually cool. Yeah,
- 6:16yeah, how about you? What have you seen lately? I also
- 6:19watched kind of a sports movie. I watched the latest film directed by George
- 6:25Clooney, which was based on the novel by Daniel James Brown about an incredible
- 6:30true story called The Boys in the Boat. Oh no, I didn't actually
- 6:34know Clooney directed that. Okay, he directed it. Yeah, that's cool.
- 6:39I kind of wanted to see this movie. Yeah, nice for sure.
- 6:42Yeah. It's about the University of Washington rowing team and their unlikely success
- 6:46story. It was back in the thirties and so they were still dealing with
- 6:51like the depression, and they didn't have the kind of money like a lot
- 6:54of the other schools. Sure, so it was interesting. It was interesting
- 6:59to hear not a lot of big names, the biggest being Joel Edgerton,
- 7:03who has done a bunch of great things and should be a bigger name but
- 7:06isn't for whatever reason. He's great in it. He's the coach of the
- 7:12team. And it was a lot of folks that I did not know.
- 7:17I didn't know a lot. Apparently one of the guys is in that Masters
- 7:20of the Air Show on Apple. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 7:28But I will say that this is about as entertaining as you can make a
- 7:32film about a rowing team. I like that. You know, it's rowing,
- 7:40so you got to somehow make that exciting. And Coloney really did a
- 7:45good job. That's cool, man. Yeah, it looked compelling by the
- 7:48you know, the trailers or whatever. So yeah, that's good to know.
- 7:53I'll have to check that out. It's an interesting one. And of
- 7:56course it was a true story. It actually happened, Yeah, which is
- 8:00that always makes it a little cooler. Yeah, yeah, me, I'll
- 8:03have to try. Sure. I agree with you. Joel Edgerton, he's
- 8:05really good. He's so good. Surprising he's not in more. I guess
- 8:09he's in quite a lot. I don't know. He's directing now too.
- 8:13And it's just he's one of those guys where you're like, oh, I
- 8:16know that guy. He's been in so many things. Who is he kind
- 8:20of flies under the radar a little bit, right, Yeah, Yeah,
- 8:22I'm with you, but he's great. Good call. Nice have you been
- 8:26streaming anything fun. Yeah, I streamed and I don't remember where, so
- 8:30you'll have to go look. But World War Z. I rewatched that movie
- 8:33because I've ever seen it the one time, and I was just kind of
- 8:37like, huh, maybe I want to watch this again, and uh so
- 8:41intense I kind of remembered being like, well, I didn't hate the movie,
- 8:46but it wasn't as good as the book, And now I realize why.
- 8:50And that's because it really just had nothing to do with the book other
- 8:52than it was zombies. Because you read that book, right, I think
- 8:56you read it before me. No, did I read World War Z?
- 8:58I don't remember. It's a lot Okay, I did, and I really
- 9:03liked it. And it's it's kind of a unique book in that it's written
- 9:07sort of just in like news stories and like like news bulletins, almost after
- 9:13the fact. It's almost like an anthology after the world has recovered, you
- 9:18know, of these things. And and honestly, it was fun to watch
- 9:24this again because I was like, oh, this is a this is a
- 9:26fine, really good movie. Brad Pitt's really fun in it. It's really
- 9:30good. I don't know why they bought World War Ze, Like the rights
- 9:33to that because it really has nothing to do with that at all. And
- 9:37it's it's funny because I I went like poking around and the it's that uh
- 9:46is it Max Brooks? I think Max Brooks is the one who wrote his
- 9:48Son, Yeah, his son, and he had a funny quote about it
- 9:52where he was like, I think it's a great movie. I just don't
- 9:54think it has anything to do with the book that I wrote, you know,
- 9:56basically the same thing. And I was like, yeah, well,
- 10:00if he feels that way, I guess I guess I can as well or
- 10:03whatever. So it was just a funny a funny thing, so but a
- 10:07really good movie. If you separate, if you'd never read the book,
- 10:11I think you'd have a great time with this movie. I know it's super
- 10:13old, so people have probably seen it, but it holds up pretty well.
- 10:16It's it's compelling, and you know, Brad Pitt is just a stud,
- 10:20so always watch him. I feel like, you know, but yeah,
- 10:26they are fast, dude, that's my dad. He's always like I
- 10:31saw that fast zombie movie. I love that. Yeah, I would not.
- 10:35I mean, this is probably not a huge surprise that that situation wouldn't
- 10:39work out great for me, like I'd be yeah, I'd be pretty qul
- 10:43too fast, wouldn't be a lot of suffering, which would be nice.
- 10:46That would be nice if you gotta go nice. But yeah, I actually
- 10:52quite like to rewatching it. I thought was kind of fun to revisit.
- 10:54So check it out if you haven't. But how about you, you've been
- 10:58streaming things I did. I streamed a new movie and it was not great.
- 11:03Oh no, it was called Unfrosted. It was the new Jerry Seinfeld.
- 11:11It's all about how the pop tart was invented. And I will admit
- 11:18that I thought I was going to be going into like a true story type
- 11:24of thing. You know, there's a lot like BlackBerry and there's been a
- 11:28lot of those nows. I thought that too, to be honest, because
- 11:31I heard him on the like talk show circuit or podcast circuit and he was
- 11:39talking about how it was a really interesting story how pop tarts were invented,
- 11:43and he's like, I made like a comedy about it, but maybe there's
- 11:48some like parts of a like what really happened in truth or something. It's
- 11:54the most ridiculous plot. I thought it would be more bay truth, but
- 12:00it is crazy they have serial mascots like rioting and they have they created some
- 12:05sort of serial creature in a lab and it's just it was all over the
- 12:11place. So it's like a spoof of those movies almost or something maybe kind
- 12:16of Really, there were some funny jokes and funny parts it had. The
- 12:22cast was like crazy, just like huge names would come in for a minute
- 12:28scene. So that was kind of fun to see. But the goofy was
- 12:33too much for me. It was not my favorite. Some people might love
- 12:37it, it was it was not great for me. That's interesting because he's
- 12:41such a curmudgeon these days, Like yeah, I get the feeling that he
- 12:46doesn't think anyone is funny. So like a movie come up where it's like,
- 12:50well this isn't great. Either I don't know, or at least I
- 12:54don't get it. I guess that's it. Yeah, I mean, And
- 12:56like I said, there was some funny writing. There were some funny ideas,
- 13:00big names, but just and it might have been an expectation thing too,
- 13:05but it did not who knows. That was not what I was looking
- 13:09for. So interesting, I'm I can't recommend it. I thought it was
- 13:11like Tetris or something. Yeah, definitely. Okay, nothing like that.
- 13:16That's good to know, good to know, definitely. Yeah, nice,
- 13:20nice, it's cool. We'll keep an eye out for that one. Then,
- 13:24what do you think should do if you plug a roonyes here? Yeah,

- 14:18top five draft that pertains to the movie we're talking about. And for this
- 14:22one, we decided to do our top five favorite movie Detective. This was
- 14:28a fun one. I'll mark from a fruitful category than I thought like initially,
- 14:33you know what I mean, I had some fun, fun ones come
- 14:37up, so nice for surely have it? Well, very cool. Well,
- 14:41the movie we're here to talk about today is a really fun one in
- 14:43itself. It is Ace Ventura Pet Detective celebrating I guess thirty years thirty years
- 14:52nineteen ninety four, ninety four. That's crazy. So it was it was
- 14:58Aceventurer, the Mask, Dumb and Dumber all in the same year. That's
- 15:01that is truly wild, Like that is that's a hot trio. Yeah,
- 15:07it's unbelievable. Jim Carrey had a very good nineteen ninety four and that's why
- 15:13we're doing Jim Carrey June, Jim Carrey June Baby, So you're gonna get
- 15:16to hear about all those and then one extra special one just tacked on there
- 15:20at the end. Yeah, that's also having an anniversary, just not nineteen
- 15:24ninety four. Yeah, well he was busy. He was busy doing this
- 15:28other crazy so yeah, so we're here to talk about this, this silly
- 15:31crazy movie and the silly crazy career. So we had to get a couple
- 15:35of silly gooses here with us. Yeah, and I think you guys know
- 15:39him and love him, so let's get him in here without further ado,
- 15:41give it up once again for Benny Ellige and Adam Renegade Wilson. What's up,
- 15:48guys, what up? Thanks for having us? Oh my gosh,
- 15:52how are you boys? Just lovely happy to be here? You are lovely?
- 15:58Darn it. We're so you to have your back. Man. What
- 16:02a dream, what a film? Yeah, I can't wait to talk about
- 16:07this. But first let's introduce you guys independently. I know you've been on
- 16:10a bunch, but just so people can recognize your voices with your names.
- 16:14Renegade, Adam Renegade Wilson. Hello, how are you hello? Gentlemen?
- 16:18Doing all rat alright? It's looking very handsome in a white hat today,
- 16:23Very nice cap. I love it, very cool. I love it.
- 16:29Yeah, looking great. And then Benny Ellie is back with us with a
- 16:33twins hat. You guys are doing like the good at the Angel and then
- 16:40the devil on our shoulders right now because you've got a black hat on.
- 16:44I love it. Well, I can't see colors. Well, okay,
- 16:51looks black on my screen. I don't know. It doesn't turn. I
- 17:00won't, I shan't, I never will. We're so happy to have you
- 17:03boys back. A couple of quick plugs for things that have already happened at
- 17:07this point. The Brooklyn Film Festival at Windmill Studios. Huh, how did
- 17:12that go? I know it was great. Oh yes, because I see
- 17:18because they have it's going great, going great, I hope. I bet
- 17:22it's been amazing. Hopefully it's not in the news or something chaos disaster to
- 17:36strikes. It was the craziest thing. So yeah, check that out and
- 17:48check out FBI. Most wanted. Uh what was the episode again? It
- 17:52was season? Its season? I know we said five, episode ten in
- 18:00it on Paramount Plus. I believe, And it's fantastic, So go check
- 18:06it out. Really got to showcase Benny Elige. It was. It was
- 18:10pretty fun to watch. Yeah, you're beautiful, we love you, thank
- 18:14you. It's really good in it. I think sweaty or anything. Yeah,
- 18:21he knows how to eat a ham sandwich on screen. They were like,
- 18:26you need a spit bucket. I was like, no, bro,
- 18:30this ham is good. This is this Hill's farm would be able higher quality
- 18:37mustard. But I love that. I love that. Well, check all
- 18:45these things out. We're here today to talk about Ace Ventura, pet Detective.
- 18:52I know it's going to be a silly good time, so I think
- 18:53we should get started a sap and Rob, will you get us started with
- 18:56just a rough SYNOPSI for surely, When the dolphin mascot of Miami's NFL team
- 19:03is abducted, Ace Ventura, a zany private investigator who specializes in finding missing
- 19:07animals, looks into the case. Soon, Miami Dolphins players are kidnapped too,
- 19:12including star player Dan Marino, making Ace's sleuth work even more pressing,
- 19:18working with Dolphins representative Melissa Robinson. Ace closing it closes in on the culprits,
- 19:25but not before many ridiculous misadventures. Nice there is good read good read.
- 19:33Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes and here what they have to say. Critics
- 19:36have it coming in at a rock solid for pretty. Forty seven is brutal.
- 19:45Forty seven seems a little low to me. It's IMDb is six point
- 19:49nine, which I think is pretty good. That's good. Oh, okay,
- 19:52seven, It is pretty good for a movie like this, for surely
- 19:56forty seven pretty rough. Audience members have it up a li little bit but
- 20:00still not very hot. They have it at fifty seven percent really yeah,
- 20:03which I was really surprised by that seventy five. I mean yeah, I
- 20:11think that IMDb comes in around right at seven. Yeah, that does feel
- 20:15that feels approximately right. But let's find out where we all think it lies.
- 20:18And let's go into our hot take. Hot TAKEO spicy. That's a
- 20:25hot take. That's a hot ta. Do not go in there? Whoa
- 20:30nice because that's from the film. It's hot. I will go first here.
- 20:37I love this movie a lot, like way more than fifty seven percent.
- 20:41For sure. This movie was just it was big when I was a
- 20:47young man. Some of the best physical comedy I think that, you know,
- 20:51we can ever get. Jim Carrey is just crazy and he can like
- 20:56move his face, face skin around his facial skeleton in such a fun interesting
- 21:03way. Uh yeah, he's wild. He must he must have had a
- 21:07childhood of making faces into like mirrors and stuff. For sure, I think
- 21:11I heard that he did. Really, that makes sense, right, his
- 21:17stand up is like doing impersonation one of the other. That's right. It's
- 21:22on YouTube. Check it out. They're good. Yeah, he's kind of
- 21:26a weird cat these days, but I've always really liked him. I think
- 21:30he's super funny and great so uh and this one is the one that got
- 21:34it started for me, anyway, I think because Rob did this one come
- 21:38out first in his trio that year? Okay, I did, so we're
- 21:42doing him in a release order whatever. I guess. Sure, nice love
- 21:45it your gun is thinking anyway, And that's from the film. I know.
- 21:56I'm sorry step it all over quotes, but seriously, this move has
- 22:00been in my lexicon for a long time now, and I just really like
- 22:03it. Uh it Uh, maybe slightly problematic as we get older, Yeah,
- 22:11a couple scenes. Yeah, I don't know where I really fall on
- 22:15all that, because I'm definitely not an expert, but it seems like people
- 22:19could absolutely have issues with it. Thank you, Rob, I guess uh,
- 22:29yeah, I just really like this movie. I think it's super super
- 22:32fun and zany uh and uh. My hottest take though, is that even
- 22:37even sans panties. I'm not sure there'd be any way you'd see my Captain
- 22:42wiki if it was stuffed. So I think I could have got away with
- 22:48it. That's all I'm saying. Nothing in front or back. It just
- 22:52would have been jammed up in there somewhere. I thought of that. I
- 23:02was like, do I say that that's not very funny? Yeah, I
- 23:04probably will say it's up coming. It got me real good. You can
- 23:10see that telegraph down there. Oh, I guess I guess they are a
- 23:15lady. Okay, who else? Sorry? Man? Yeah, never mind
- 23:21you Rey debunked, all right. Oh it's good. It's really good sporting
- 23:26that. Wow. I remember seeing this movie when it first came out and
- 23:33thinking it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. I've seen it
- 23:36probably thirty plus times. It was one that I rewatched over and over and
- 23:41over as a kid, much like when Tommy Boy came out or anchor.
- 23:45Man. I talked like Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura for a very long time
- 23:51years. There are so many one liners in this that I say to this
- 23:56day, those guys, Yeah, for sure. Absolutely. It might be
- 24:04the best example of a movie that would not work with any other actor.
- 24:12Nobody could have played ace Ventura other than Jim Carrey, at least in this
- 24:17version of that film. It sounds like he had a lot to say in
- 24:22the character and how what he was saying and all that. So maybe the
- 24:27previous draft would have worked with somebody else, but this current version, nobody
- 24:32else could have done it. Yea. It has one of the funniest opening
- 24:36scenes of all time. A draft he did recently and it was definitely chosen.
- 24:41I think you got it, didn't you think? Yeah? Yeah,
- 24:45you sniped it from me, But yeah, I mean, Jim Carrey is
- 24:49like way over the top. I guess my hottest take is that it probably
- 24:53shouldn't work like he's so over the top with just his delivery, many people
- 25:00could pull it off. The supporting actors aren't great in this film either,
- 25:06and the plot is kind of ridiculous as well. It shouldn't work as well
- 25:11as it does. But it makes me laugh very much, and it brought
- 25:15me right back to when I was a kid. Nice hot tey, how
- 25:19about your do you have any Captain Winki comments? Thank you got it?
- 25:25You got that one? Love it? Hot take, buddy, hot take,
- 25:33hot take? All right? Gentlemen who wants to go first? I
- 25:37mean you you can go me and me and Renegade. Well, I'll just
- 25:40sort of we we have the same feelings. We're sort of tea. We
- 25:45usually try to not talk about the movie too much before we went on to
- 25:48not always, but we we were at the bar watching the Timberwolves game six
- 25:52the other night and we brought up for the first time about doing it,
- 25:56and we both kind of had the the same initial hot take, which is
- 26:02kind of what you're playing off of which Robbie, which is Jim Carrey can
- 26:07just elevate a movie above what it has any business doing, Like this movie
- 26:11should not work, right. I was actually gonna say, like I'd love
- 26:17to see the script before he got on board, because I think it's a
- 26:19borderline, like this is a straight to VHS. Oh, like this could
- 26:23go down hard, but instead it opens number one box office. Yeah,
- 26:29and like that's all him doing his thing, and then he goes straight into
- 26:33the mask and then Dumb and Dumber, same year, all three crushed and
- 26:37kind of all three have no business or no being good being that good,
- 26:42right, but it is, and it's all him good car Yeah, and
- 26:48I'm i mean, I'm the only person I can think of think of who's
- 26:52kind of I mean we talked about it when we did Ghostbusters, Bill Murray.
- 26:56I think of like Robin Williams, yep, that's in like a Missus
- 27:00Doubt Fire, or or Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop like someone who comes
- 27:07in. But but even those movies had a solid idea, like as you
- 27:11said, this movie is weird, and I mean it's like a cute idea,
- 27:18but I just don't know if you put anyone else in here, what
- 27:21are we watching. It's just like a weird kind of B level, like
- 27:26nothing is really written funny. I mean we saw he got a writing credit
- 27:30for this credit. Literally every scene he is, he is just going off
- 27:38and making stuff up. And other than Robin Williams, I can't think of
- 27:42anyone else in our life who we've seen do it like this. I mean,
- 27:48I know, once we got into like the Appatoo era, obviously improv
- 27:53became more of a thing. But I mean, this is improv. This
- 27:57is and this is like a one man show. I mean it is a
- 28:00one man show. Bit after bit after bit, every single scene has some
- 28:07iconic bit or a thing that he did, so yeah, and I just
- 28:11wanted to say on a on a personal note to Robbie's point. Also,
- 28:17this movie had a massive effect on me as as an actor as a kid,
- 28:23you know, because I grew up my dad would play drums for local
- 28:27high school and college musicals and stuff, so I would go to rehearsals,
- 28:30and I always loved movies, but this was like, you know, even
- 28:36after growing up with great Outdoors and John Cannyon and all that, this was
- 28:38like, oh my god, what am I watching right now? I've never
- 28:42seen anyone do anything like this, And strangely, I think it was the
- 28:48same year I felt it was like when I saw pulp fiction. I was
- 28:51like, I didn't even know movies could be like this, sure, and
- 28:53this was like I didn't even know. And we grew up in like the
- 28:57GREATESTSESSNL cast of all time too, obviously with Farley and Mike Myers and all
- 29:03of them, so we were getting a taste of it. But this was
- 29:06next level to me. And like Robbie, I I probably when we met,
- 29:11actually Robbie around age eleven twelve, Yeah, I just like was Jim
- 29:17Carrey all the time. I also had started doing community theater at the time,
- 29:21and we did a production of this show called Little Johnny Jones, and
- 29:25I was the bad guy. You guys, I'm not gonna lie. I
- 29:26basically just was Jim Carrey and the community theater thing. That's fantastic. I
- 29:33practiced making both eyebrows go up nice like. It really affected me in a
- 29:40big way in acting in comedy. So, yeah, he's like a force
- 29:45of nature or something. And I don't know, he's it's it's really fun
- 29:48to watch. I'm sure it probably gets annoying when you're on set with them.
- 29:51Maybe it's sounds like a Man on the Moon wasn't very well. That's
- 29:56even a character that was We were taking a turn in there to a different
- 30:00I mean, I love that movie to death, but yeah, the atmosphere
- 30:04doesn't seem amazing going method. But also we talked about we talked about just
- 30:08like Breakout Movie performing dude, I feel like this is on the mount rushmore
- 30:15of of fullly crap. Who is this person? He goes this the first
- 30:19like movie movie. Yeah, yeah, okay, there's like a TV movie.
- 30:26And then obviously he was in Living Living Color, Living Color. He
- 30:30did Earth Girls Are Easy. He did once bitten. I watched this was
- 30:34like like he breakout movie. I mean, he is a movie star.
- 30:40Yeah, after this totally and this was his like this is my thing.
- 30:44Like you said, Rob, in the first minute, you're just like,
- 30:49whoa, this is bananas? Ye so yeah, crazy, well hot takest
- 31:02Well let's go this one might be a little uh a little short, but
- 31:06let's go into her favorite acting performance. Let's name the dude, the dude.
- 31:10I'm the dude. So that's what you call me, you know that
- 31:15or his dude or duder or you know, eldudo reno. If you're not
- 31:19into the whole brevity thing. Dan Marino, Oh my god, that was
- 31:27easy. It's a clean sweep, a rewrite. He's okay, he's pretty
- 31:36good. Renegade. Who do you got for this? I mean, obviously
- 31:41it's Jim Carrey, but check your notes, check it out. I did
- 31:45want to give a shout out to Courtney Cox. Oh yeah, she also
- 31:52has a very impressive nineteen ninety four. We talked about this earlier and we
- 31:55were like, woad, well, we had Seinfeld out of the day and
- 31:57it was her episodemeb she has the one She's in one episode she plays like
- 32:01his faith wife that was ninety four, and then she books Friends this year,
- 32:07like this is February of ninety four and Friends comes out September of ninety
- 32:12four, Like has anyone had a more life changing freaking year? Yeah?
- 32:17My god. Yeah. And again there's you know, there's her character.
- 32:22There's nothing special for her character to do, obviously, as every supported character
- 32:28this, but you know, she does great. Yeah, she does what
- 32:31she needs to do. Just the fact that she's able to not ruin every
- 32:36scene, yes laughing at what he does is impressive. And she's where you
- 32:44even the scenes where she does kind of like break a little bit, it
- 32:49works because like he's being silly at the Shady Acre's mental hospital and like it
- 32:53worked, you know, yeah, yeah, And they're usually kind of cutaways
- 32:57to her, but she doesn't. She's not doing anything distracted, she's not
- 33:00trying to do anything. She's very like a good straight man for sure,
- 33:05for him. I mean, clearly she was a good enough actor to be
- 33:07like, I'm just gonna let this guy do his thing here. We can't
- 33:13both be trying to do this or whatever. So I like really believe,
- 33:16even though it's unbelievable we were saying maybe that she, I mean, is
- 33:21a very attractive woman who's single and works for the Miami Dolphins. I'm like,
- 33:24she's not with anyone? Are we kidding? What's happening? Sure,
- 33:29she's not single, the the most eligible bachelorette in freaking Miami right now.
- 33:35She's not dating at least like the punter or something. But she I believe
- 33:42that she really likes him, like they have little quick intimate moments. Yeah.
- 33:45The only time I could kind of see her break is when she's like,
- 33:50you really do love animals, except if it gets cold enough, you
- 33:54can't see her face, but you can kind of tell that she's like laughing.
- 33:58I'm sure that was improvised that got her. Yeah, I kind of
- 34:01watched her during the super slow mo and when he's like going backwards and she's
- 34:07definitely like having to hide her face a little bit. But again it worked
- 34:12because he was being ridiculous. Yes, yeah, yeah, for sure,
- 34:16that's great. It's Jim Carrey. I'm almost like, is this is this?
- 34:24Is this silly? I mean we just jumped to the I mean jumped
- 34:28to the two cheeths. I mean, yeah, we could talk about Jim
- 34:31Carrey is just you know, I mean physic car is blew our minds with
- 34:37the physical comedy and unbelievable. You know, we're saying he has He's like
- 34:44one kind of two actual real moments in this movie. One is when he's
- 34:50kind of mean to her in her backyard with the ugly saddle bags. Yeah,
- 34:53and he comes up and he's he's serious. And then there's one other
- 34:59time with her, but really he never gets off the the goofiness. You
- 35:06don't you don't really And then I don't know when it was in his career
- 35:09that he first did a little something where he was serious, kind of serious
- 35:15straight man but sure, but he's it doesn't matter because this was a coming
- 35:22out party for one of the greatest to on screen comedians we've ever seen.
- 35:28And the thing with him too in this the one note I had in him
- 35:30with the dude is just that he just like brings it every scene and it's
- 35:36usually something somewhat different every time, but he just brings it and he's just
- 35:40owning it absolutely. Yeah. So yeah, I mean yes, if yeah,
- 35:49say you're a piece of of Jim, that's everything I need to say.
- 35:53We can go on and I think we learned. I think we learned
- 35:55later in life that he I do think he is a good actor when he
- 35:59kind of ran Yeah, you know, I think Truman shows incredible eternal eternal
- 36:04sunshine, are wonderful man on the moon, even though it's crazy for them.
- 36:09But I mean, yeah, he's wildly talented. Son. You guys,
- 36:17did that's liar? Liar's great. I feel like that was kind of
- 36:22like his first when he was trying to do some serious stuff. Yes,
- 36:27you know I know that there it was mostly funny, but he had the
- 36:30scenes with his son and stuff, and I think we talked that was another
- 36:34great example of of we talked about just like what would this movie have been
- 36:37like with anyone else, right, and like I don't know, yeah,
- 36:42it wouldn't have been the same movie, and this movie would have been a
- 36:45failure. Probably it would have been real bad, would have been forgotten for
- 36:49real bad or doctor Doolittle or something. But yeah, yeah, nice,
- 36:54Well he's the dude. Let's go on to talk about everybody else. Let's
- 36:58name the Tucci. We mentioned Courtney Cox, she's the best. She definitely
- 37:06would have been my teacher as well. Did you have one, Benny?
- 37:08I mean, like we said not no one is really great. I mean,
- 37:15yeah, I do want to hit on Sean Young because she's very interesting,
- 37:20like Hollywood story, because she crushed the eighties. You know, she
- 37:24was Original Dune, obviously, Blade Runner, and a bunch of other stuff.
- 37:30She was in Huge, She was kind of an eight lister. And
- 37:34then she was cast as Vicky Vail in Batman. Oh, I didn't know
- 37:39that straight up cast. And then two weeks before they were supposed to film,
- 37:44she fell off a horse and broke her arm. Oh and Tim Burton
- 37:53couldn't they couldn't delay anything, so they just had to recap her. And
- 38:00it seems like from what I've read from there, things just kind of got
- 38:04a little weird. She she she then when they were doing Batman, Returns
- 38:08famously went on Oprah or something dressed as Catwoman to try to get that role
- 38:16she had. She had a lot of just strange things happened, like her
- 38:21and James Woods had an altercation, and years later she had a oscar party
- 38:27thing where she got arrested for like trying to get into this. I don't
- 38:30know, it seems like things just kind of went downhill for her, and
- 38:34I feel bad and I don't know. Yeah, wow, So she got
- 38:37in this movie and I you know, I don't, I don't. I
- 38:40don't think she's that great. She's not great. She has moments where I'm
- 38:45like, she's good, and she's she's very pretty beautiful, and you know,
- 38:52I mean, I don't know. It's just weird. It's weird.
- 38:54Casting doesn't have a lot of like character development either, Like really, thing
- 39:00we find out about her character is like it's kind of without her then without
- 39:04her. Yeah. Yeah, So I just kind of wanted to bring that
- 39:08up because it's interesting to me. And she was like I was like a
- 39:12full on kind of a lister and then things just went severely sideways, you
- 39:17know, and thinking of Batman with that, and it feels like her career
- 39:22would have gone a much different way because that was like the most massive hit
- 39:28at the time. She's great blade Runner though, wonderful and Blade Runner,
- 39:31and she's in I don't she's seen something else with Kevin Costner some stuff I
- 39:37didn't really recognize, but with big, huge people. So I don't know,
- 39:44so, you know, great, I just wanted to shout it out
- 39:47because you know, who do you guys want to talk about? I tone
- 39:52looks pretty great, honestly, not bad, really not. He was able
- 40:00to keep it together. I mean, Jim Carrey is spreading his butt right
- 40:05in front of him and he's just like he's just chilling out, you know,
- 40:08He's stop doing that. Like, Yeah, I thought he was pretty
- 40:13great. He's got like a really cool voice too. Yeah, Like I
- 40:16could just listen to that dude talk. Yeah, same, And honestly I
- 40:20could. I could see Tony Lok have done have had the ice ice tea?
- 40:29You know, I thought he wasn't blank Check, I believe, Yeah,
- 40:35he had been in quite a few things before Aceventure I saw too.
- 40:38Was it blank Check or was it the President's Kid or first kid? You're
- 40:45talking about first kid? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, when are we doing
- 40:47that? When are we doing that? And he first kid? First kid,
- 40:52Richie rich Yeah, blank Check? I love blank Check And I love
- 40:58all three of those movies. You just sailed that. Uh. In my
- 41:00research week two of a mature being number one, blank Check came out beat
- 41:07it. So they actually came out like the one week apart. Wow.
- 41:10Really that's cool. I loved that movie too, we all did, of
- 41:15course. A thirty five year old woman kisses a nine year old. Yeah,
- 41:22it's it's a lot weird at the end. As a kid, we
- 41:25thought it was great, wonderful. We'll get to those later sure, but
- 41:36yeah, you're right. Tom munk Is is actually pretty good. He's pretty
- 41:39good in this He was cool. And did you have any other Bukes?
- 41:43I just had one other one. Ah, I was gonna say that John
- 41:47Kappa, d s DJ, the Aguado guy. I thought he was kind
- 41:52of fun. He was. I mean, he didn't do a lot,
- 41:55but no one did a lot, so it was like a little hard.
- 41:59But yeah, he's a sweaty boy. That's a sign of a good actor.
- 42:05It's funny acting wise, the best people in this movie are like the
- 42:08ones who have like the smallest roles. Like we have two Ghostbusters alums.
- 42:16Drummond Is. Her name is Missus the best Librarian. That's a great,
- 42:22great call. I always remembered her from the movie Awakenings. She's like the
- 42:27that's the first thing that yeah, yeah wow with DeNiro, Yeah wow,
- 42:34and I just watched it. Robin Williams. Robin Williams. And then the
- 42:40guy at the Mental Institute is the mayor in Ghostbusters. Yes, he's good.
- 42:46The guy who plays the owner of the dolphins. Is good. He's
- 42:50gonna yeah, he's very believable. And Roger Actor is very good. I
- 42:54think, look, see, that's the only guy that I've seen in like
- 42:58a lot of movies after this too, and a little bit parts. I
- 43:01know what the Tucci was just like, this is the Jim Carrey show.
- 43:06Everyone comes in and just tries to do their live and tries to get it
- 43:10away and let him do his thing, show up and get the hell out
- 43:15of the way. Kind of exactly. Yeah, for sure. So yeah,
- 43:21I think I think maybe we should just move on to the dingus.
- 43:24What do you guys think? Favorite scene? While the dude and the Tucci
- 43:30were so easy, this one, Yeah, basically possible. Agreed, Agreed,
- 43:35It's tough. It's quite simple, really ingusingus. I can talk about
- 43:38my dingus all night long. We'll make one of you guys go first.
- 43:43Yes, scene, Uh, I'll start fairly early in the movie, uh,
- 43:49with with him in the empty dolphin tank. Yeah, not necessarily the
- 43:53star trek because I was never a tricky but I love when he gets to
- 43:58his knees and it starts looking into the into the filter or whatever. It's
- 44:01supposed to be just putting his face in there, and then that goes straight
- 44:06into him being pretending to be the dolphin trainer. Yes, so I I
- 44:13watched the only way I could watch. It wasn't streaming anywhere, but I
- 44:15have YouTube TV, and it was through TBS. They didn't have the dolphin
- 44:21trainer bit on. I read it too. It was the original cut,
- 44:29right, is that it's not in the theatrical cut, and then when they
- 44:31released it on VHS, it's put in there and they, you know,
- 44:36hyped it as never before seen footage. But like, I only owned the
- 44:39VHS set, you so I've only known it with that scene in there.
- 44:45And I mean, that's like the line that I quoted all the time,
- 44:50and after I was just like, I didn't even hear that in this Yeah,
- 44:57but I do love that scene to There are a bunch of deleted scenes
- 45:00on YouTube. Ever, go check out. There's a big compilation. Some
- 45:06of them aren't very good, they're cut for a reason, but there's a
- 45:08couple of pretty good ones in there. Nice. I bet there's a good
- 45:12gag reel. He's always good for a nice gag reel. I'll put that
- 45:15in the notes. I'll just do one more, and I don't want to
- 45:19jump on everyone. But I really love the Ray Finkel's parents scene, like
- 45:24the whole thing, especially like him doing the whole monologue on the porch of
- 45:30his career. But then when when the mom comes out and starts wrestling the
- 45:34shotgun away and Ace is just dunking, It's like, it's so funny.
- 45:38And then after they go to you know, the little football, they're little
- 45:43football. It's such a weird scene, but it's so funny. I'll let
- 45:52you guys go, and I got some more, but I'll let you guys
- 45:53throw on overlap Benny, you want to go? Oh my god, I
- 45:58mean there's so many I would say, like Robbie said earlier, I would
- 46:02just say the opening because I think it gives us such a look into what
- 46:09we're about to get into. For sure. Yeah, that package that it's
- 46:16so good. It's so rattling around in there, the elevator doors just smashing,
- 46:24you know, it's just so many. He's so many bits that he's
- 46:28coming on with. He's so ridiculous. Yeah, and it's just in two
- 46:32seconds shows you what kind of movie it's gonna be for sure, which I
- 46:37think is amazing for sure. That's whay up there for me as well.
- 46:42I oh, what's up? Oh go ahead. I was gonna say the
- 46:45breaking into shady acres is probably number one. Just him wearing that to to
- 46:51and being obsessed with football and doing the button hook and super slow moll so
- 46:57funny. Super is very impressive. It's impressed. And the rewind is even
- 47:01more oppressive. It's so good running the plays and jumping over the hedges.
- 47:08And when he just like slams his face into that bench, Oh my god,
- 47:15you hit your head hard, so hard, like that hurt that that
- 47:25there's no way, No the other thing I worked on for a long time.
- 47:30There's a way you can kind of do it with your forehead. You
- 47:31got like I've seriously learned worked on all these bits, yeah, in my
- 47:37life as a kid. And then he sneaks into into that little like room
- 47:43where all the personal stuff is and there's the bubble round is so good.
- 47:51Yeah, I love that bit. What do you got, bukes? I
- 47:53had a couple that we haven't said. The when he goes to the billionaire's
- 47:58party. You're just like this stuff with breaking in and goes to the bathroom.
- 48:05But the part I kind of had forgot about was the shark. Somehow
- 48:08I soll forgot about that. I don't know how, but it was just
- 48:13his line of like, that's not snowflake, You're not snowflaking that face man.
- 48:20So he's like. The party scene is one of my all time favorites
- 48:25in general, so good, it might be my favorite, the like little
- 48:30kishes and stuff. Yeah, I just think it's such a him doing all
- 48:37the things. Yeah, it's so funny because he has to act kind of
- 48:40he's acting within or being another character within his already weird character with the rich
- 48:46guy. And I mean if I'd been drinking out of the toilet, I
- 48:52might have been killed. Yeah. Also, we've talked about a million times
- 48:59as we've watched this twice. Last my probably my favorite improv moment in this
- 49:02movie is him yanking the cello. Yes, it's so good and the fact
- 49:08that the then the like sound department had to work that in is totally so
- 49:15incredible to me and so funny, and it's so like on point character like,
- 49:20of course A is just gonna walk by this and just fuck this whole
- 49:22up. Yeah. Well, especially because he's got the undertone of of he's
- 49:28already met his buddy, so he already doesn't like this guy because he knows
- 49:31he collects rare right. Yeah, he already has a little vendetta against him
- 49:36besides the fact that he thinks he did this, So he's kind of already
- 49:38pissed at him regardless, So he's just just going in hot. Love that
- 49:45so funny. Yeah, yeah, and do not go in there. That's
- 49:50probably I've said yea up there right. Yeah. Oh, I also love
- 49:55this the scene where they are like looking at the pictures of the old team,
- 50:02I think, and he tells the story about having the dream about the
- 50:07dog and that whole thing. It cracks me up so hard. And I
- 50:10have done that to a few people throughout the years, and it's always great
- 50:15when it worked, like because you can start it and you know if they
- 50:19know right away and then you can just go for it. Well, then,
- 50:22going off of that, we really just watched this before we started it.
- 50:25We've always died of it. Where in that scene they do the whole
- 50:30story and then he turns around and looks at the picture and just within a
- 50:32second, who the hell is that? Yeah, there's like a hundred people
- 50:42sightline that is a good call that who the hell is that? Yeah,
- 50:46that's a good call, so great. I love that. I also love
- 50:52the the montage of trying to find who had the missing Yes, that's yeah,
- 51:00that's good, super so wonderful, the track guy yes or form at
- 51:07the end, all of them, all of those were so Yeah, they're
- 51:12really really funny. That's a good one. I also liked when he's eating
- 51:16seeds in her office. It's so early, but I had that kind of
- 51:22I had that in best quotes. But yeah, but yeah, same thing.
- 51:25Yeah, Sonny, do you need an ash? No, I don't
- 51:30smoke, I don't spok. Disgusting habit. He's also he's also pulling the
- 51:35seeds out of his pocket. Yeah, which means he just has a pocket
- 51:38of sunflower seeds dipping into and every he needs to. Oh ship, I
- 51:43forgot a tucci when his landlord is the dude from Breaking Bade right, Yeah
- 51:52I did. I didn't chicken, damn, that's what it is. Yeah,
- 51:57but that guy's great, And I just was like, well, I
- 52:00never knew. Well, I remember watching Break It Back for the first time.
- 52:05I'm like, it's a dude from Ason. Yes he's landlord, but
- 52:12I for how many millions of times I watched this. It wasn't until way
- 52:17later in life that I realized the key was signal Yeah, Like I'm not
- 52:27kidding. It was one of those I was today years old. I was
- 52:30like, oh damn. I thought that was just a bit that's really really
- 52:37smart and funny. I just yeah, never never got that, Yeah,
- 52:44get that. The only other one I had was kind of we haven't really
- 52:49touched on the I don't know what called ending scene, but the scene and
- 52:52with the dolphin and d reel tied up. I love when like Ason Dan
- 52:57Marino or trying to kill him, kill kill him, he held he held
- 53:02the ball. They're like dick jock muscle ahead. I see what you're saying
- 53:10that. There's like a like a blocking sled in this. And then she
- 53:20brought a tea to kick a field goal. Well, she's got the TVs.
- 53:23I said that, she's got a whole production side wants to make this
- 53:27a show for Gambo and I get it. Here's a question for everyone,
- 53:31what's worse kicking a field goaling heels or running from a t rex in heels?
- 53:37What do you think? I don't know, Probably it seems like,
- 53:43I don't know, have you ever tried to plant in heels? That is
- 53:49true, not easy, not easy for those who are wondering. That's a
- 53:53Dallas Bryce Howard Jurassic World reference. Take the heels off when you're running.
- 54:00You don't want to do that. Apparently in her new movie in the in
- 54:05that whatever that spy movie is with Cavil and people, they make a joke
- 54:09about it. I guess heels or something funny. That's great. I don't
- 54:15remember that. That's fun. One last thing we didn't talk about the crime
- 54:20scene where Roger Pedactor dies and we get the screen door. Great call.
- 54:25Yes, And I was saying earlier, what's crazy about this is I think
- 54:30every single scene we there is some iconic thing that he did. I mean
- 54:37the opening scene, we get our first, alrighty, then basically amazing when
- 54:43he's we get our first like a glove, when he's driving the stadium,
- 54:49the party, or the Roger Predactors scene, the sliding door thing, everyone's
- 54:53done that from the breathing in and then saying like breathing and saying everything all
- 55:00so fast. Yeah, there's so many it's bananas. And speaking of actually
- 55:07what you just said Benny about the I was today is years old or whatever.
- 55:12I didn't realize that the dog barked at her when she first meets him
- 55:17when they're in the apartment. So he picks up the pedactor guy's dog and
- 55:23Einhorn comes over and the dogs and he says like the they're good judges of
- 55:29character there, you know, they can sense evil. And it's like,
- 55:32oh, yeah, because the dog recognizes God, I am today years old.
- 55:44But I loved that. I was like, oh, And they even
- 55:46do a shot of her face and in the moment, you just think she's
- 55:50annoyed because he's like a goofball, right, but it's actually he thinks that
- 55:55he you know, like knows more than he you know, letting on or
- 56:00whatever. But yeah, I didn't realize that that had happened. I thought
- 56:02that was cool. Well, I think this is a good time, since
- 56:06we're talking about scenes, to talk about the homophobia of the nineteen nineties.
- 56:12Yeah, it's tough, dude. The scene when he realizes that she's a
- 56:16man, he throws up, he throws he brushes his teeth. He then
- 56:23uses a used plunger plunger on his face, then burns the clothes that he's
- 56:29not even wearing when he kissed her and then cries in the shower. Yeah
- 56:35yeah, Now, look, we've all cried in the shower for a myriad
- 56:37of reasons, maybe even today. I don't know, it doesn't matter,
- 56:40don't worry about it. But I'm just saying, you know, that's not
- 56:45a reason to cry in the shower. Yeah, it's It's also something that
- 56:51they sort of insinuate, like you have to be mentally ill to go down
- 56:55this path, which isn't great. I mean, i mean, look,
- 57:00we talk about this all the time with like friends and Seinfeld friends. I
- 57:05mean it is never ending, you know, and they're not over the top,
- 57:10but it's constantly the no, we're not gay. Yeah right right,
- 57:15right right. I know it was just a part of the times and but
- 57:20whatever, but it is. It is funny to watch it happen because wow,
- 57:24heaven forbid. Yeah, that plunging of the face is it's all incredible
- 57:34and the line of what do you know about pressure? Yeah, well I
- 57:37have kissed him man also also jamming the gum into his mouth. Oh god.
- 57:45Also she apparently made out with the whole force, like I really went
- 57:52for it. There. It's like, okay, I mean she's still beautiful.
- 57:58Come on, like yeah, I mean, but yes, I yeah,
- 58:01it's it's something. It's if nothing else, it shows us how far
- 58:06we've come in that regard. I guess it's it's a product of its time.
- 58:09Yeah, growing up we didn't think anything of it. But yeah,
- 58:17AnyWho, pretty much every scene. Yeah, I don't think you can pick
- 58:22an actual favorite for this. Technically, wouldn't the dingas have to be the
- 58:28last scene when it's revealed? There you go, I'm good with that.
- 58:34Yeah, there you captain. I guess we never talked about the very last
- 58:37year where he fights the mascot. That's pretty pretty great. That's pretty awesome,
- 58:43going on about how he loves all animals and he's just beating the hell
- 58:46out like a starts the whole thing to blow me and then it's like just
- 58:53starts wailing at him. He's really got some anger. Is she is?
- 58:59This guy? Well, we've already hit quite a few of them, but
- 59:04I think we should go to our quote section. Let's show me the Mondy,
- 59:08show me the mony, show me like five each and then you were
- 59:21highly recommended by Marlon Mettz Marla Mettz Oh yeah, the bitch. What Peaconese
- 59:28hyperactive Boston, the Highland Park area. She was half dead when I found
- 59:30her. I just love her response. What what you know I used to
- 59:36be able to do? I think I can still do it. Renegadees here
- 59:37with me. He's gonna test. I'm not looking at this. I think
- 59:40I can do the fast the fast? Wow? Oh please please? What
- 59:46do you know about Ray Finkel? Soccer style kicker graduating and call your high
- 59:52June nineteen seventy six Stats in University Honors. Graduate class of nineteen eighty holds
- 59:57two NCAA records, one for the most points of the season, one for
- 59:59distance former nickname the Mule, the first and only praft he'd never to come
- 1:00:01out to call your county in one out of a model American. Wow,
- 1:00:06that's amazing. Nicely done. Well, I think I do the last one
- 1:00:09too. What you wouldn't have read about is how Rayfingo lost his mind was
- 1:00:15committed to a mental hospital, only to escape and join the police force under
- 1:00:19the assumed identity of a missing hiker manipulating his way to the top and a
- 1:00:22diabolical scheme to get back at Dan Marino, who he blamed for the entire
- 1:00:24thing. I wasn't read incredible incredible that I did from age fifteen, so
- 1:00:37oh I would just cry and laugh about these movies. I wasn't memorizing.
- 1:00:40I'm good work, No mean either. That's incredible. Yeah that was wild
- 1:00:46good word. Oh so also everything else he says in the movie, Yeah,
- 1:00:54I mean, asshole, warning, those are closer than they appear.
- 1:01:00Yeah, I love that right in that same thing. But the hungry fella
- 1:01:07there you go. I say that so many times. Hungry fella. Should
- 1:01:15we should we just like give a little props to the to the sequel of
- 1:01:20this and just give a little kind of hot in these rhinos? Dude,
- 1:01:23that's it's the funniest, hardest times I've ever left in a movie theater.
- 1:01:32Is that rhino? Sound like the one strand going across? We watched it
- 1:01:38like last week and we were all losing our minds. It was the funniest.
- 1:01:45It'll never get old. Oh look that rhinos getting burn o my god,
- 1:01:58tonight after so many good quotes in that one too, Yeah, God,
- 1:02:06that's funny. Who are we at? I'm sorry, anyone. Here's
- 1:02:10a little lesser note one. I love when he first time he goes strutting
- 1:02:15into the police department really early on, and it's also a gift. You
- 1:02:21hear a lot or you see a lot with him strutting in, and then
- 1:02:22there's different you just hear in the background. Last you must be missing they
- 1:02:30throwing just off screen? Pretty great? Yeah, pretty great a little bit.
- 1:02:36And I also just love the how would you like me to make your
- 1:02:38life a living? Hell? Well, I'm not really ready for a relationship,
- 1:02:43Lois, but thanks. Yeah, I've always really loved and I feel
- 1:02:46like I've used this in acting moments in my life in different way. But
- 1:02:51when she's like, you're just mad your little pebble theory didn't work out,
- 1:02:54then you don't know how to express your anger. Yeah, well you're ugly.
- 1:02:58Yeah, you know what. I'm not even going to talk to you.
- 1:03:04Would you please leave? Why so you can beat him? Why don't
- 1:03:09you cry about it? Oh? My god? So good. It's probably
- 1:03:15like I'm going to play this scene like I'm twelve. Yeah, it's so
- 1:03:22good. God, that's funny. If I'm not back in five minutes,
- 1:03:28just wait longer. My god, how many times do we say that?
- 1:03:31A million? Right? Do not go in there? Yeah, we said
- 1:03:36that, who is the loser? My poor parents, I don't I don't
- 1:03:46even know if, like they probably felt like they watched this movie a thousand
- 1:03:52times and they didn't because I just I would just do this. Yeah,
- 1:03:58that's why I don't think they like you very much. I'm sure that's a
- 1:04:01big reason. Excuse me. I'd like to ask you a few questions.
- 1:04:09I mean, that whole bit is a great bit. You have a mint
- 1:04:14perhaps in Banka. I don't watch horror films, so I didn't know this
- 1:04:17until until Benny to Yesterday, which is the what is Polter guy? And
- 1:04:23he goes, I have exer the demons? This house is clear. Yeah,
- 1:04:29and I had never seen Poulter guys, so I never knew what that
- 1:04:32was from. I always figured. I always figured as a reference of something,
- 1:04:36but I had no idea. Oh you were the same way. Yeah,
- 1:04:39yeah, I had no idea. I don't watch horror. Yeah,
- 1:04:42I had gotten I had. That was one of those I got shown that
- 1:04:45movie way too young, and it was etched in my memory. So yeah,
- 1:04:49but it's incredible. It's one of those where I'm like, when they
- 1:04:51were on set, I'm like, people must have lost their minds when he
- 1:04:56did that. Yeah, for sure, Man, it's amazing. Why don't
- 1:05:01you say somebody, uh, hello, I'm looking for Ray Finkel and a
- 1:05:06clean pair of shorts, just so so good, And then they're little football.
- 1:05:16Also when the mom is like, Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and
- 1:05:21rot in hell? Would you like a cookie? Son? Such a sports
- 1:05:30not? Huh's so good. Also, one of my favorite lines of this
- 1:05:41movie is at the end, Hey, yeah, Dan, you have any
- 1:05:44more of that? Come? That's none of your dann business, and I'll
- 1:05:46thank you to stay out of my personal affairs. You're a weird guy.
- 1:05:49Is weird guy? Weird guy? Yeah, but that's none of your business,
- 1:05:56and I'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs. Is one
- 1:05:59I drop in every now and then. Yeah, you know I steal.
- 1:06:00That's got to be for the most ridiculous thing, right, it makes no
- 1:06:04sense. It's so so great. God, that's really funny. Your gun
- 1:06:10is digging into my hip is funny. Though problematic, I get that,
- 1:06:14but it's still funny. M Is it a number one or number two?
- 1:06:19Hey? I just want to know what kind of time I have? Yeah?
- 1:06:25Hey, another one I'd always sayre just randomly and it didn't never made
- 1:06:30sense. Was come to me jungle friends, Yes, I would constantly Also
- 1:06:38when someone said something like yes Satan, yes, sorry it sounded like someone
- 1:06:43else. Yeah, my mom loved that one. That's great, good question
- 1:06:50of guado. First I'd established motive in this case, the killers aw the
- 1:06:54size of the bugs dick and became insanely jealous. Then I'd lose thirty pounds.
- 1:06:59Forking is life, I mean it's never ending. Yeah, they're all
- 1:07:05just say the whole script, I mean every everything is well sorry, not
- 1:07:10even the script, whatever his brand, whatever the script became. What's funny
- 1:07:15too, is like like the like the scene with tone lok with the butt
- 1:07:18stuff, Like what what was that scene even supposed to be? Right?
- 1:07:25Literally nothing written happened in that scene. Might have saw in the script like
- 1:07:30butt stuff and been like this is a different kind of movie. I didn't.
- 1:07:38Yeah, like I didn't even know. I don't. I don't even
- 1:07:40remember. Does anything act He tells him a little bit. Yeah, gets
- 1:07:44what he's trying to He's trying to get who what detective is on the case.
- 1:07:49Yeah, he's trying to find out what they know so far. About
- 1:07:51the case. So it's probably like a one or two page scene and it
- 1:07:56becomes just like a six minute locking up his butt scared, I'm gonna make
- 1:08:01a stink, and it basically only leads to us meeting Einhorn, right,
- 1:08:06yeah, Basically the info he gives him we already know. So it's like
- 1:08:11it's really nothing is accomplished in that scene other than doing the butt thing right
- 1:08:16right, which is great, Like he says the van he says, yeah,
- 1:08:21I don't think we learn anything new in that moment other than they have
- 1:08:25a relationship, a previous relationship, but stuff. And then Einhorn comes in.
- 1:08:30Yeah, and I'll never hear O sole mio again with man. That
- 1:08:48was all the ones I wrote down. So you want so many other pressing
- 1:08:50ones. I'm with you, guys, somehow, I'm sure we've missed them.
- 1:08:59Yeah for sure. Well let's move on to bugs Boho moments. I
- 1:09:04think this is a zero. I don't think we cried in this movie.
- 1:09:09And Jan also, I said I'm going to lose it if Bugs has a
- 1:09:13moment in this interesting. You guys are right, I didn't, Yeah,
- 1:09:20I was really I was, like, I said, maybe Roger productor's death.
- 1:09:26They don't show he Honestly, I also had the same concern. I
- 1:09:30was like if I cried during this, like we really we might have to
- 1:09:34start examining some things. Yeah, because it's just so fun. But yeah,
- 1:09:41no, no, no, but who's during this one? Good job?
- 1:09:44Heay, good job. Let's do some of this movie trivia. We've
- 1:09:47talked about a few of these things, but let's see. The pulling of
- 1:09:53the cellist arm is is improvised, like we said, really fun and great.
- 1:10:01That was just a fun improv to me because it required post production assistance.
- 1:10:10It wasn't just like we can decide. It was like, okay,
- 1:10:13this is amazing. So when you're doing the music, which is yes,
- 1:10:17it's a famous piece of music anyway, it's I don't remember what they're playing,
- 1:10:20Beethoven or something, but I'm like, it was literally like, hey,
- 1:10:30by the way, he does this thing, so we need you to
- 1:10:34do that. Yeah. That's why I love that that one made it in
- 1:10:39because it actually required some production thought, which is great, which is amazing,
- 1:10:44keep going sorry, oh no, you're good. I thought this was
- 1:10:46cool. The voice of ace Ventura and the manner in which he speaks was
- 1:10:49added by Jim Carrey only after several read throughs of the skip of the script.
- 1:10:56He it was something that he had used in his stand up routine before,
- 1:11:00or specifically the alrighty then was the catchphrase of one of his characters,
- 1:11:05and he just started saying that after lines from the script weren't feeling like right
- 1:11:10in the moment, and he started adding it. Read through it again with
- 1:11:14that voice for all the lines, and it was such an improvement that it
- 1:11:17became the personality trait of the character. I just thought that was really neat.
- 1:11:23Man, I would love to see them I know, right, he's
- 1:11:26so interesting. But yeah, the original concept for the script was that he
- 1:11:30was going to be more of like a bumbling idiot kind of character. But
- 1:11:35when Jim Carrey was cast, he kind of he had two conditions for doing
- 1:11:41the movie. He just wanted it to be like physical comedy, super zany,
- 1:11:45push the envelope, and then he wanted the character to be super quirky
- 1:11:49and weird but also be super good at what he does. And I thought
- 1:11:54that was a really more interesting. Yeah, it's a brilliant move because I
- 1:11:58do love that, you know, whether it's him seeing someone's face across the
- 1:12:01you know, across the room or I also I also love how confident he
- 1:12:06is everything he does. Yeaheah, being a bumbling idiot would have been too
- 1:12:14easy, Like it's so much more fun that he's actually good at it.
- 1:12:17It just would have lacked depth then, right kind of or something. Yeah,
- 1:12:21I'm with you. I love that that that's what they went for.
- 1:12:27Apparently the giant hook that Ace uses to knock out Einhorn's henchman was originally supposed
- 1:12:32to literally knock their heads off. Renegade just told me this the other day.
- 1:12:39Yeah, I think that would have that would have given him the R
- 1:12:41rating, though I think decided that Gus makes sense. That started a little
- 1:12:47chat we had also about how what's funny to me about this movie is how
- 1:12:51they go like they go a little like a little naked gun sometime, but
- 1:13:00they picked their when he catches the bullet in his mouth when he falls into
- 1:13:04the tank, like they let it go totally farce a few times, which
- 1:13:12is kind of weird to me because he's so ridiculous, but everything else is
- 1:13:17kind of believable. It's happening even though it's heightened. But yeah, the
- 1:13:23bullet catching and the tank thing is weird and like that would have been so
- 1:13:28over the top. I don't know. I just don't think when he's doing
- 1:13:30what he's doing, you need that stuff, Like I didn't need the bullet
- 1:13:34in the mouth or the much Yeah, because it's still even though it's so
- 1:13:40ridiculous, kind of believable. You know, it's funny that they let those
- 1:13:45things kind of slide and we're like, we'll let it get completely insane here
- 1:13:50for a second. But they didn't do the beheaded thing. That's very right.
- 1:13:56Well yeah, yeah, and it's also like, how would you like
- 1:14:00like legit their decapitate as Yeah, it gets complicated. It's weird for sure.
- 1:14:11That cut agreed. Oh, I thought this was interesting. He so
- 1:14:17in the movie compares Ray Finkel's room to Hannibal Elector's prison cell from the Silence
- 1:14:23of the Lambs. Apparently seventeen years later, Jim Carrey recounted that he asked
- 1:14:30Anthony Hopkins to dinner and discovered that their approaches were similar for Ace Ventura and
- 1:14:34Hannibal Lecter in that they both moved like animals. Carrie based venture as movements
- 1:14:41on birds and Hopkins based them on Reptiles, and Carrie confessed that Hopkins was
- 1:14:46becoming Hannibal Lecter right at the table there, and they apparently like rapped about
- 1:14:53character and moving like that. So it's an interesting method. Do you ever
- 1:14:58pretend to be an animal band? You know? Me and Joan McDermott on
- 1:15:03the Yeah, hell, yeah, good buddy. No we didn't. I
- 1:15:15thought that was interesting, mostly because I called him, Mostly because I kept
- 1:15:17calling him Dermott mau rooney. He just didn't talk to me. I was
- 1:15:24like my best friend's wedding with Julie Roberts fun on the set of The Best
- 1:15:28Friends kept Julian and he was he didn't didn't talk to me. That's great.
- 1:15:34Let's bring that. I Q up for this, you know. Uh
- 1:15:40the ass talking scene started in Living Color, which were referenced earlier. Uh.
- 1:15:45Frustrated one day, Keenan Ivory Wayans are frustrated with Keenan Ivory Wayans constant
- 1:15:50rejection of his pitch sketches. Jim Carrey stood up and read a sketch from
- 1:15:55his butt in Wayne's direction. The two almost fought before Waynes walked up the
- 1:16:00room. Apparently they sat down and worked it out later at some point.
- 1:16:03But yeah, yeah, I don't know. I like that. Disrespectful,
- 1:16:13I guess. According to Courtney Cox, while filming the sex scene with Jim
- 1:16:17Carrey, all the animals had to be chained down, but then she says,
- 1:16:23but the squirrel would get loose and jump on the peng when the penguin
- 1:16:26would bite the cockatoo, and soon all hell would break loose and I'd find
- 1:16:30myself under the blanket with a macaw. That was. So that's a sentence
- 1:16:36that we've all now heard. So that's what we've all heard that next album
- 1:16:42under the Blanket with Yeah, let's go there it is. I was gonna
- 1:16:50there are two clues. Oh no, we already said this. We talked
- 1:16:56about that. I think that was everything I had. I saw a couple
- 1:17:00of things. The director Tom Shadyac admitted that when he first saw the film,
- 1:17:04he was worried that it might end his in Jim Carrey's careers. Boy
- 1:17:09was he wrong about that. He was. But that's a pretty great first
- 1:17:14reaction, very relatable though. Yeah, Jim Carrey said that he was basing
- 1:17:20his role on on a bird. You said that, Yeah, and I
- 1:17:28read some casting. Yeah, that's where I was gonna go next, but
- 1:17:31you got it. I just saw Rick Moranis turned down the role of Ace
- 1:17:36Ventruro's so if it was like a bumbling guy, like you can see that.
- 1:17:41If that's that would was initially, but just a completely different movie.
- 1:17:45Yeah, what is this movie? Yeah? When I saw Rob Schneider turn
- 1:17:50it down, yeah, which essentially this just turns into like I also saw
- 1:17:55Judd Nelson. Yeah, well it said that Judd Nelson Rickman were considered,
- 1:18:00So I don't think that they were, like I don't think they were turning
- 1:18:04it down or anything. I think they're just thinking about him, Yeah,
- 1:18:08Alan Rickman apparently what then? I just can't believe. I can't believe Rob
- 1:18:16Schneider turned anything down at this, Like why he had never done a feature
- 1:18:25film like where he's the lead in anything. It's just like that's crazy to
- 1:18:29me. Yeah, that's really wid. I I don't know if I believe
- 1:18:33that right for that exact reason. Right, it's like what he did the
- 1:18:39Animal, right, but that was years later. I'm like, even like
- 1:18:44Deuce big Old, it was years later. It was Yeah, he wasn't
- 1:18:46doing movies in nineteen three, No, No, for sure he was and
- 1:18:50he was still on someone else. He was the the got being my stare.
- 1:18:56Yeah, like necessary roughness. He was probably doing that. That's probably
- 1:19:01around here right around this time. But yeah, he was not leading no,
- 1:19:06so that that seems crazy. One ninety one, a couple of years
- 1:19:12earlier. Yeah, Lauren Holly turned down the role played by Courtney Cox,
- 1:19:16which is interesting since they worked together the same year just in Dumb and Dumber,
- 1:19:25and it was more considered for Melissa Robinson was Carrie Anne Moss and Tayloni
- 1:19:31is what I saw, Taylor, you could do it right, she could
- 1:19:35do it honestly. Again, like we said, anywhere, anyone, bad
- 1:19:40boys, anyone could have done it. I mean it's not like Courtney,
- 1:19:44you know for sure. Wow, Yeah, that was nice. She ended
- 1:19:50up he ended up working too in saying, uh, fun with Dick and
- 1:19:56Jane. Fun with Dick and Jane, which is wonderful. They're great to
- 1:20:00together. That was good funny. Yeah, good call. But that was
- 1:20:03all the trivia I had. Did you guys have more? No? No,
- 1:20:10right, leave that to you guys. No, that's good. So
- 1:20:14Judgment Day we already kind of alluded to it. But when nature Calls was
- 1:20:18such a funny, great sequel, and they made a junior one too,
- 1:20:25Like a was that a straight video situation? I never saw that was No,
- 1:20:29I never saw it either. Pretty sure it was a straight video I
- 1:20:32think so too. But yeah, but when Nature calls great is a great
- 1:20:39sequel to the ball as their show? Like really, legit? What a
- 1:20:47great completely different movie. Yeah, I mean completely different in the setting.
- 1:20:53And you know, I just think it good idea instead of just trying to
- 1:20:59do it ag again, Yeah, in the city in an American Miami or
- 1:21:04somewhere right, I just think they there's a good idea to take it away.
- 1:21:09We're going way different. Yeah, agreed totally with the monopoly guy,
- 1:21:15Well, do you guys want to you guys want to play a game?
- 1:21:19Hell yeah, I'm sure Benny's gonna win it. Yeah, when you guys
- 1:21:23are on, I for sure do a starting five. So that's what we're
- 1:21:26doing again. I'm gonna name my five favorite actors from a particular film when
- 1:21:30you know the film, ring in with your name. If you get it
- 1:21:33wrong, there's no negative points. You won't be able to guess again for
- 1:21:36that movie. However, if there are other actors' names remaining, you can
- 1:21:40guess those for a point each. The other person can steal if you get
- 1:21:43any of those names wrong. All of these films have something in common.
- 1:21:47When you know the theme, you can ring in at any time. And
- 1:21:50I might have something to do with this film that we talked about. Love
- 1:21:55it all right, let's do it number one. The first name is Alan
- 1:22:01Covert or maybe covert h. The second name is Bobby Cannavale. I will

- 1:22:58five in the four three it's the fighting one in the ring. No,
- 1:23:05that was here comes the boom and that is not what it's okay, And
- 1:23:10our buddy j Max, who has been on the pod, is in that
- 1:23:15uh against Benny. I don't know. Paul Blart, mall cop Paul Blart

- 1:26:26that would work, That would absolutely work. That's no, no,
- 1:26:30no, no, that's not it. The fifth and final name. So

- 1:27:06will definitely get this next one, Number five. Where are we going into
- 1:27:10number five? By the way, Benny zero, Benny has three, I
- 1:27:15have two, and Renegade has the whole game ahead of them. You could

- 1:29:50dude, do you guys want to jump in? Johnny Depp? You got
- 1:29:56another one also seven. I didn't get that me and Robbie were in that.
- 1:30:00We were in that it was so good in college. He was the
- 1:30:03Allen Ricka. What are the points on that one? You got Sweety Todd
- 1:30:13and Helen A Bottom Carter. You got the way harder name and that I
- 1:30:17thought for sure I would get Helen of not smart. Okay, Yeah,
- 1:30:25we'll see how this one goes. It's not uh at this point. It
- 1:30:30is not full names now at this time, okay, okay, because I
- 1:30:34had a hard time finding full names and occupation, so you'll get that for

- 1:31:33Doesn't chew Hotel become a bad guy too? Yes, he's in one of
- 1:31:40the later ones, the next one? Yeah, where are we going into
- 1:31:45the last two? Benny has ten, I have nine. Renegade has won.
- 1:31:48Everybody's still technically alive. You gotta get going renegade, And this one
- 1:31:55is hard. Number nine is tough, all right. The first name is
- 1:32:00Aaron Eckhart. The second name is Greg Kinnear. The third name is Chris
- 1:32:11Rock. The fourth name is Morgan Freeman. In the fifth and final one,

- 1:32:45Renee Zelwiger. Five four you, yes, just Judy. She wasn't that.
- 1:33:00That is not what it is. So but that doesn't make sense with
- 1:33:02the theme, right, Sorry? Four three two one. I had never
- 1:33:10seen this movie either. I don't think you guys have either. It's called
- 1:33:13Nurse Betty. Oh no, wow, not what I was thinking at all.
- 1:33:18That's a great cast, though, Yeah, I know. It was
- 1:33:21like, why haven't seen this? Yeah? I know all these folks,
- 1:33:26all right. It was Bruce Almighty as I was thinking of me too nice,
- 1:33:30and then you said Aaron, and I thought Aaron Brockovich and then yeah,
- 1:33:35my brain was Oliver. Let's go to the last one, number ten.
- 1:33:42The first name Barry Pepper, the second name Giovanni Benny JUG's got it,
- 1:33:54saving private Ryan got it? Three names Tom Hanks correct? Who I'm
- 1:34:03sorry? Who did you say? Barry Pepper and Giovanni Ribisi? You also
- 1:34:06know have said Tom Hanks, so left, Uh damn it. What's the

- 1:34:24You got two names remaining, Tom size more correct? Tom. I
- 1:34:32am a dip damn. So what is that? So Benny wins because he
- 1:34:41was one ahead at that and I screwed up. I didn't get Matt Damon
- 1:34:45more. Benny really good, a good game. My bonus was Coach Carter.
- 1:34:58But there weren't a lot more I could do. Yeah, that's hard.
- 1:35:01Yeah, I could have done the zoo Keeper. But his name isn't
- 1:35:06it there? If it was? Like because I've never seen it me either.
- 1:35:12I knew Rosario Dawson was in it because he always pairs himself up with
- 1:35:16some gorgeous Why not? Really? Why not? I get it? So,
- 1:35:24Yeah, but Benny will tell us how we're going to do our Top
