Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on Sporting State and
- 0:02Speaker 1: we are live on this Tuesday morning. Glad you're with
- 0:05Speaker 1: us for Hutton and Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Chad, good morning. Good morning.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Hutton Live is the best thing to be and that's
- 0:12Speaker 3: what we are every morning 8 to 10 a.m eastern time.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Good to be here with you. Yeah man, same here,
- 0:17Speaker 2: same here. How was the evening? Good. It was good. Good.
- 0:20Speaker 3: My daughter's volleyball team went from defeated to one win.
- 0:24Speaker 3: You know, we were the opposite of undefeated. We were
- 0:26Speaker 3: winless and we defeated an undefeated team. So I'm riding
- 0:30Speaker 3: on high this morning. My daughter, Lucy, had her first
- 0:33Speaker 3: softball game of the season. She was defeated eight to five,
- 0:36Speaker 3: but it was a valiant effort for the little Dodgers.
- 0:38Speaker 3: So I'm excited, Hutton. I'm ready to go. Fall is
- 0:42Speaker 3: in the air. Football is in the air. And we
- 0:44Speaker 3: got some big stories to discuss.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yeah, man. Let's see.
- 0:48Speaker 1: The SEC feels defeated, or is it Lane Kiffin? Lane
- 0:51Speaker 1: Kiffin will not feel defeated. He says, hell no, to
- 0:55Speaker 1: the SEC that says, you know what, we probably shouldn't
- 0:59Speaker 1: bring back NFL players. And Kiffin says, well, if I
- 1:03Speaker 1: don't do it, then that means someone else is going
- 1:05Speaker 1: to do it. So I might as well just go
- 1:06Speaker 1: ahead and recruit those players. Who's going to tell Lane
- 1:08Speaker 1: Kiffin no?
- 1:09Speaker 2: No one.
- 1:11Speaker 3: It's amazing, because if you were the NCAA or the SEC—
- 1:16Speaker 3: and you had your pick of anyone that you could
- 1:19Speaker 3: tell to go to hell, it would be Lane Kiffin.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I mean, if Greg Sankey, I don't even think we'd
- 1:24Speaker 3: have to give him truth serum to give this answer.
- 1:26Speaker 3: If we said, Greg, and we're sitting down with him
- 1:28Speaker 3: at Tampa, we're at SEC kickoff one year, if you
- 1:32Speaker 3: could deep down tell one SEC coach, football, basketball, baseball,
- 1:38Speaker 3: any sport, to just shove it, Who would you want
- 1:41Speaker 3: to tell that to? His answer would have to be
- 1:43Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin. Yet here is the SEC and here is
- 1:47Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin. Lane Kiffin is saying, I dare you to
- 1:50Speaker 3: do something because this is going to happen because of
- 1:53Speaker 3: a court order and an injunction. And this injunction supersedes
- 1:57Speaker 3: what the SEC can do. So someone in the SEC
- 2:00Speaker 3: is going to get my former players. And what I'm
- 2:02Speaker 3: going to do, or somebody else's former players, what I'm
- 2:05Speaker 3: going to do is go in and make sure that
- 2:08Speaker 3: it's me that lands these players. I'm going to recruit
- 2:10Speaker 3: them because someone else will. Lane Kiffin even said, I mean,
- 2:14Speaker 3: if you asked me, is this the right thing? I
- 2:16Speaker 3: would probably say no, that players shouldn't go to the
- 2:18Speaker 3: NFL and then come back to college. But here we are,
- 2:22Speaker 3: courts are saying it's okay. So I might as well
- 2:24Speaker 3: go ahead and get these players.
- 2:26Speaker 1: The quote from Kiffin at the end of the day,
- 2:27Speaker 1: because of these rulings, they're either going to play for
- 2:29Speaker 1: you or they're going to play for someone else. And
- 2:32Speaker 1: he goes on to say, so we've made the decision
- 2:34Speaker 1: to recruit them like Probably most are.
- 2:38Speaker 2: He's not wrong.
- 2:40Speaker 3: It's either us or you, and it's definitely not going
- 2:42Speaker 3: to be you. That's the Lane Kiffin stance on it.
- 2:44Speaker 3: And I know the SEC released this statement also in
- 2:47Speaker 3: response to all of this with Daquan Wright being the
- 2:50Speaker 3: first player, as Adam Schefter said, history in the making
- 2:53Speaker 3: with Daquan Wright. But the SEC came back and released
- 2:55Speaker 3: the following statement that I know that we're going to
- 2:57Speaker 3: show you about what exactly is going on with this
- 3:00Speaker 3: and their stance on it about players coming in and
- 3:03Speaker 3: They said, after a Monday evening video conference with the
- 3:05Speaker 3: presidents and chancellors of the Southeastern Conference, the conference is
- 3:09Speaker 3: issuing this statement. College athletes, not former pro athletes, have
- 3:12Speaker 3: been at the heart of the Southeastern Conference.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Individuals who chose to leave.
- 3:16Speaker 3: College athletics, sign pro contracts, and compete professionally should not
- 3:21Speaker 3: then be permitted to return to college competition. Allowing that
- 3:24Speaker 3: to occur will blur the line between college and professional sports,
- 3:28Speaker 3: create significant competitive equity concerns. and reduce opportunities for high
- 3:33Speaker 3: school and current college athletes. College sports are for college athletes.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Crazy we have to even say that.
- 3:39Speaker 3: The current confusion around eligibility standards emphasizes the need to
- 3:44Speaker 3: advance the Protect College Sports Act.
- 3:48Speaker 2: So, Hutton, here's the lowdown.
- 3:51Speaker 3: From the SEC. Basically, we hate this. We hate you, Lane,
- 3:55Speaker 3: and anyone else who does this. We're not saying it's allowed.
- 3:58Speaker 2: It's not allowed. But... Our hands are tied. Oh, it's allowed.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Until Congress can come in and say something, our hands
- 4:05Speaker 2: are tied. Oh, it's allowed.
- 4:07Speaker 1: If the SEC says something's not allowed, but it's allowed,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and Kip is doing it anyway, it's allowed.
- 4:13Speaker 3: It's allowed because a court says it's allowed. The SEC
- 4:17Speaker 3: is saying, in our bylaws, it's not allowed.
- 4:20Speaker 2: But we get trumped by the government. Yeah. And that's
- 4:24Speaker 2: the thing.
- 4:25Speaker 4: It's like..
- 4:26Speaker 1: I don't know which side to be on right now
- 4:28Speaker 1: because Kiffin is within the law, and the SEC's trying
- 4:33Speaker 1: to get everyone. If you're another SEC coach, what are
- 4:36Speaker 1: you doing? Why are you allowing Kiffin to get away
- 4:39Speaker 1: with this?
- 4:40Speaker 2: So there's 15 players that filed the lawsuit. Two of
- 4:44Speaker 2: them right now are already going to LSU.
- 4:47Speaker 3: That's the only school I know that has collected on
- 4:49Speaker 3: these players that have gone to the NFL and gone back.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Now, it's behind a paywall. I didn't see which two teams.
- 4:55Speaker 3: But TJ Harden is a running back for the Seattle
- 4:57Speaker 3: Seahawks who got cut, and he's down to two SEC
- 4:59Speaker 3: teams in the finals. One of them's not Lane Kiffin.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I'm guessing one of them's LSU, possibly, but the other
- 5:05Speaker 3: one's not. So there's another SEC coach trying to get
- 5:08Speaker 3: some of these players, too. Other SEC coaches will certainly
- 5:11Speaker 3: jump in the fray. I think what the SEC is
- 5:13Speaker 3: saying here is we hate this. It's against our rules.
- 5:18Speaker 3: But our rules can't go against what a court or
- 5:21Speaker 3: a judge is saying. So what we need is for
- 5:24Speaker 3: the highest judge in the land, the Supreme Court and
- 5:27Speaker 3: or Congress, to come in and pass this Protect College
- 5:30Speaker 3: Sports Act that would then prevent this from happening.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Where was the SEC when this was going on in
- 5:35Speaker 1: basketball for the G League?
- 5:38Speaker 2: They stayed silent. I think Greg Sankey did say he's
- 5:42Speaker 2: against it. It took a while.
- 5:44Speaker 3: It took a while, but he did come out and
- 5:46Speaker 3: say that this is wrong, what happened with Charles Bediako
- 5:48Speaker 3: and Alabama.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Well, Sankey came out, but I'm saying like the rest
- 5:52Speaker 1: of the league, like far too often the SEC has
- 5:57Speaker 1: stayed silent during a lot of this, a lot of
- 5:59Speaker 1: this craziness. We went through nearly a year where we
- 6:03Speaker 1: didn't hear from Greg Sankey. Well, here's the other side
- 6:07Speaker 1: of it. We had topics about how silent the SEC
- 6:09Speaker 1: had been.
- 6:10Speaker 2: There's two sides of this coin also.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Greg Sankey issued a pretty quick statement on this from
- 6:15Speaker 3: the SEC office last night.
- 6:17Speaker 2: We just read you.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Where's Greg Sankey on Ariane Carter? Why does he not
- 6:20Speaker 3: have one of his member institutions back? I mean, of
- 6:23Speaker 3: everything going on, Greg Sankey should be the first to say, look,
- 6:26Speaker 3: I have been talking to members of Congress for months
- 6:29Speaker 3: now trying to get something passed on bigger issues surrounding
- 6:32Speaker 3: college sports. We are missing the forest through a single
- 6:35Speaker 3: small bonsai tree. when we look at Arion Carter and
- 6:38Speaker 3: say he can't play for two games.
- 6:40Speaker 2: This is absurd. It's ridiculous. He paid back the money.
- 6:44Speaker 3: We need to be focused on bigger issues and to
- 6:47Speaker 3: be overly punitive with Tennessee on a player that paid
- 6:50Speaker 3: the money back and got paid $ 400 that's coming back.
- 6:54Speaker 2: To school is ridiculous.
- 6:55Speaker 3: You know, he went through the process. He didn't go
- 6:59Speaker 3: into the draft. He wasn't drafted. He wasn't an undrafted
- 7:02Speaker 3: free agent that's been playing at a camp. He didn't
- 7:04Speaker 3: go record two sacks in a preseason game. You know,
- 7:07Speaker 3: he's not out there begging his coach to cut him
- 7:09Speaker 3: so he can go to some other SEC school and
- 7:11Speaker 3: get paid. Those are the things that the NCAA, for
- 7:15Speaker 3: whatever reason, feels like, aha, we got you.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Let's lay the hammer to Tennessee and Arian Carter.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And I know that Tennessee is defeated at NCAA in
- 7:22Speaker 3: the court multiple times, and they probably have this vendetta
- 7:26Speaker 3: against them, and that's.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Part of this.
- 7:27Speaker 3: But, Hutton, that's the meat where I think Greg Sankey
- 7:29Speaker 3: could come back and say, give a statement on behalf
- 7:32Speaker 3: of Tennessee. Where are you when it comes to that?
- 7:34Speaker 3: I get the.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Statement on this and you needing to say something because
- 7:38Speaker 2: it's a giant story, but where are they on Tennessee?
- 7:41Speaker 1: Well, give the statement that says Arian Carter is allowed
- 7:44Speaker 1: to play the first two games of the season, according
- 7:46Speaker 1: to us.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah. That's what you said. We'll see whose law wins, right? Yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 2: The NCAA or the SEC. He is allowed to play,
- 7:54Speaker 2: according to us. By the way, that is a good
- 7:57Speaker 2: battle to have.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Greg Sankey versus NCAA and the SEC commissioner, or if
- 8:03Speaker 3: it's Tony Petitti just saying, no, we're good. We're not
- 8:06Speaker 3: going to serve that penalty. We're just going to go
- 8:08Speaker 3: ahead and tell our school to play.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Also, where's Josh Heupel being Lane Kiffin in this? Where's
- 8:14Speaker 1: Josh Heupel saying, you know what? No, we're not going
- 8:16Speaker 1: to pay attention to your rules. He is going to play.
- 8:19Speaker 1: We're going to play him anyway because Lane Kiffin would.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I looked.
- 8:24Speaker 3: You're preaching the choir on this one. I've been saying,
- 8:26Speaker 3: I've been posting on Twitter, like now it's on Tennessee.
- 8:29Speaker 3: If they don't play him, that's a Tennessee decision to me.
- 8:34Speaker 3: With this whole thing being opened up now, with NFL
- 8:36Speaker 3: players coming back to play at LSU or in college,
- 8:39Speaker 3: I think if you're Danny White in Tennessee, you're saying, look,
- 8:42Speaker 3: the gauntlet has been thrown down. We're seeing this happen now.
- 8:46Speaker 3: We're going to talk about our buddy Will the Weasel Wade.
- 8:49Speaker 3: a little bit later, who just stockpiled his talent based
- 8:52Speaker 3: off of guys who are already in the NBA is
- 8:54Speaker 3: what he's waiting to do at LSU. And you knew
- 8:56Speaker 3: that someone was going to test the boundaries even more,
- 8:58Speaker 3: and he's going to be the guy to do it.
- 9:00Speaker 3: But if you see all this going on and you're
- 9:02Speaker 3: Josh Heupel, and he's already called it, I mean, his
- 9:04Speaker 3: exact words, it's bullshit when he was talking about the
- 9:08Speaker 3: situation with the NCAA.
- 9:09Speaker 2: He said that in a press conference about Arion Carter.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I think you can call them out on it.
- 9:13Speaker 3: And say we're going to play him and you're not
- 9:15Speaker 3: going to say that we're ineligible because we're playing him.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I mean, even if you wanted to sit him against,
- 9:19Speaker 2: and I wouldn't even do that. No, no, no. Not
- 9:21Speaker 2: even sit him one game, Chad. Play him. Play him
- 9:24Speaker 2: against every opponent. I'm with you, man. I would do it.
- 9:29Speaker 3: I'd call their boss and see what they would do.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Because what is, there's also, this is also what's funny
- 9:35Speaker 3: about this. There is a rule in the SEC, not
- 9:38Speaker 3: about NFL players coming back, which is against every rule
- 9:42Speaker 3: in NCAA and SEC, but a court.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Said it's okay.
- 9:44Speaker 3: There's a specific SEC rule about going from SEC school
- 9:48Speaker 3: to SEC school after a certain window of time that
- 9:51Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin and LSU are violating right now with the
- 9:53Speaker 3: two Ole Miss players that played for Lane Kiffin that
- 9:56Speaker 3: are going to go to LSU.
- 9:57Speaker 2: What about coaches? Is Greg Sankey going to do any
- 10:01Speaker 2: of that?
- 10:01Speaker 3: I mean, is he going to do anything about it?
- 10:02Speaker 3: There is no rule about coaches, obviously. But, I mean,
- 10:04Speaker 3: is Greg Sankey going to– again, like– No, he's not.
- 10:09Speaker 3: You can make all the statements you want, but until
- 10:12Speaker 3: there is federal legislation that tells these guys they can't
- 10:16Speaker 3: do it, they're.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Going to continue to push the boundaries on them. Man,
- 10:19Speaker 2: my whole thing is like, or what?
- 10:22Speaker 1: NCAA's going to do what if Arian Carter plays?
- 10:26Speaker 2: Or what?
- 10:26Speaker 1: They're going to play him after he goes to the
- 10:29Speaker 1: NFL and comes back? Had Arian Carter been granted a
- 10:33Speaker 1: fifth year and been in the NFL right now and
- 10:36Speaker 1: decided to come back, he'd be okay.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Can you imagine, too, if Tennessee is in some playoff
- 10:43Speaker 3: hunt late in the year or they look in a
- 10:45Speaker 3: prime position to make the college football playoff? And there's
- 10:48Speaker 3: all this reporting going on that the NCAA is going
- 10:50Speaker 3: to claim that the Georgia Tech game is forfeited.
- 10:54Speaker 2: And then they can't go to the college football playoff.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Also, the NCAA doesn't control the college football playoff, is
- 11:00Speaker 3: my understanding.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Nor do they control college football. Exactly. So I'm thinking
- 11:06Speaker 2: even if they said, like, you forfeit this game, Tennessee's
- 11:09Speaker 2: going to count that game.
- 11:10Speaker 3: In their record books. They're going to go about their life.
- 11:13Speaker 3: The goal is to play in the college football playoff.
- 11:17Speaker 3: So if the college football playoff is their own entity,
- 11:20Speaker 3: and they could say, I'm sure there's some bylaw about
- 11:22Speaker 3: NCAA rules or whatever, but they could just say, yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 3: we're not going to penalize Tennessee for that. We're going
- 11:27Speaker 3: to move forward and they're going to be considered as
- 11:29Speaker 3: one of the teams. I mean, are you going to
- 11:31Speaker 3: worry about... Oh, this bowl game? It says that you
- 11:35Speaker 3: forfeited those two games, so now you're not going to
- 11:37Speaker 3: be able to go to this bowl?
- 11:38Speaker 2: You've got to go to this bowl? Who the hell
- 11:39Speaker 2: cares if that's the case?
- 11:41Speaker 3: If you're going to a bowl at the end of
- 11:42Speaker 3: the year no matter what, or you're deciding between one
- 11:45Speaker 3: bowl or the other, bowls are becoming more and more
- 11:47Speaker 3: meaningless in college football anyways.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Who cares? Look, I am completely on board with this.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Danny White, Josh Heupel, Tennessee, just like Greg Sankey and
- 11:59Speaker 3: his brain trust got together and put out that statement
- 12:01Speaker 3: last night, They need to come out today and say,
- 12:04Speaker 3: here's our statement.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Arion Carter, you're playing.
- 12:07Speaker 3: NCAA, screw off. We dare you to try to do
- 12:11Speaker 3: anything about this. It's not going to happen.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Let's do it. Let's roll the dice.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Wait until game week. Wait right until you're about to
- 12:19Speaker 1: have kickoff and release that statement.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Dare them to do anything.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Here's another side rant here on this, Hutton, if I'm
- 12:26Speaker 3: a college football coach. And I stand on principle. Eli
- 12:30Speaker 3: Drinkwit stands on business. In all of this, we're going
- 12:33Speaker 3: to talk about players who reportedly stand on business or
- 12:37Speaker 3: stand on loyalty or all about real coaching and then
- 12:40Speaker 3: the decision they make in darkness, what it really says
- 12:43Speaker 3: about them and the way the sport.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Is right now.
- 12:46Speaker 3: If I am an institution or I am a college
- 12:49Speaker 3: football coach who has ever prided myself on quote-unquote doing
- 12:52Speaker 3: things the right way in college football, which there's value
- 12:56Speaker 3: in that. That's what we teach our kids to try
- 12:58Speaker 3: to do when they're competing in sports or on a
- 13:00Speaker 3: team or whatever. Hey, do the right thing. Finish the
- 13:03Speaker 3: season even though you want to quit. Don't backtalk a coach.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Don't badmouth a teammate. Be a good teammate. Be a
- 13:09Speaker 3: part of it.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Right? These are the things that we are telling our
- 13:12Speaker 2: kids to do. Yeah, I guess there's value. Right. But
- 13:16Speaker 2: here's what I'm getting at.
- 13:19Speaker 3: If you're a coach right now and you stand on
- 13:21Speaker 3: that and you're like, I believe.
- 13:23Speaker 2: In this, I want to do this, what's the point?
- 13:27Speaker 2: It doesn't help you.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I mean, what's the point? You're not going to get
- 13:31Speaker 3: another year because you did it the right way.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, is it going to save your job whenever you
- 13:35Speaker 2: have six wins? No.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Who's going to point to that at the end of
- 13:41Speaker 1: the year and be like, you know what? He stood
- 13:43Speaker 1: on principle, though. He stood on the values of our university.
- 13:46Speaker 1: That never goes in your favor. It's always, did you
- 13:49Speaker 1: beat Alabama? Did you lose to Vanderbilt?
- 13:53Speaker 2: You're fired. It's nuts.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I mean, it is a simple math equation now. It's
- 13:58Speaker 3: your wins versus your losses. And then I think for
- 14:02Speaker 3: the athletic directors at schools, it's wins versus losses, but
- 14:06Speaker 3: it's also what does your balance sheet look like?
- 14:09Speaker 2: How much can you pay players? How much do you
- 14:11Speaker 2: pay coaches?
- 14:13Speaker 3: How hard are you able to milk dry your fan
- 14:16Speaker 3: base of all their money by upping season tickets and
- 14:19Speaker 3: upping parking payments and everything else you're going to do?
- 14:23Speaker 3: What can we put in the activities fee for our
- 14:25Speaker 3: students that's going to help us make more money?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Like, look, I love college football.
- 14:31Speaker 3: And when we get this week, we're going to have
- 14:33Speaker 3: some damn college football games to talk about coming back
- 14:36Speaker 3: on Monday.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And I'm excited about that.
- 14:37Speaker 3: We're going to watch TCU and North Carolina play over
- 14:41Speaker 3: in Dublin, Iowa this weekend, right? I'm excited to watch
- 14:45Speaker 3: and talk about it. I am a purist when it
- 14:47Speaker 3: comes to sitting down, watching college football, thinking about the sport,
- 14:50Speaker 3: liking it. Love college basketball too. It is hard right
- 14:54Speaker 3: now to feel great about what, you're watching and what
- 14:59Speaker 3: you're seeing around the sport.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Now, how long is this going to last?
- 15:04Speaker 3: Are we just in this purgatory right now until the
- 15:07Speaker 3: Protect College Sports Act or whatever is passed? Is it
- 15:09Speaker 3: even ever going to be passed? Are they ever even
- 15:12Speaker 3: going to vote on it in Congress? I don't know
- 15:15Speaker 3: the answers to those questions, Sutton.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 15:17Speaker 3: When I watch on a Saturday, I feel the same
- 15:19Speaker 3: when I hear the band fire up.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I do too.
- 15:21Speaker 3: And I'm watching the games and I'm thinking, okay, this
- 15:23Speaker 3: feels like I'm hearing the voices that call the games.
- 15:26Speaker 3: And I'm like, feels like a college football Saturday. This
- 15:28Speaker 3: is pretty awesome.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Voice of Pam Ward. Yes, the sweet, sweet voice of
- 15:32Speaker 2: Pam Ward at 11 a.m.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Breaking open Northwestern's. I'm sure she's going to open Northwestern Stadium. Hell,
- 15:39Speaker 3: they should honor, they should have the Pam Ward media
- 15:42Speaker 3: gate at Northwestern for all the Northwestern 11 a.m.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Games. She's called over the year at their terrible field.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know how to feel about everything else
- 15:51Speaker 3: going on around the sport right now. I don't love it,
- 15:54Speaker 3: but once we get to the games, I'm still going
- 15:55Speaker 3: to watch and I'm probably going to love it.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Kiffin says he never called Todd Munkin. Says he doesn't
- 16:02Speaker 2: even have his number. I believe him. Why would you?
- 16:05Speaker 2: Why would Todd Munkin say that? I don't know. But
- 16:10Speaker 2: I actually believe Lane Kiffin.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Why would Lane Kiffin need to call Todd Munkin about
- 16:13Speaker 1: a tight end if they're going to cut anyway? By
- 16:15Speaker 1: the way, they didn't even speak and they cut him
- 16:17Speaker 1: anyway this week.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I just don't understand why Todd Munkin felt the need
- 16:21Speaker 3: to say that Lane Kiffin called him and I should
- 16:23Speaker 3: have returned his call. Maybe he was confused with somebody
- 16:26Speaker 3: else calling or someone said you've got.
- 16:27Speaker 1: To call someone. I think Todd Munkin wanted to sound cool.
- 16:30Speaker 1: He didn't take Lane Kiffin's call.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, sounds like you cut that player anyway, Todd.
- 16:36Speaker 3: If you're an NFL coach and you think you get
- 16:38Speaker 3: cool points by having a college coach, Lane Kiffin, call
- 16:41Speaker 3: you and leave a voicemail, then you're probably not long
- 16:43Speaker 3: for your head coaching job. You're also probably not long
- 16:45Speaker 3: for your head coaching job when you start Deshaun Watson.
- 16:48Speaker 2: After he criticizes the city and the fan base. Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 2: We'll have to get into that.
- 16:52Speaker 1: We come in, we get into the weasel as well,
- 16:55Speaker 1: as well. We, we described the weasel, uh, Chad, uh,
- 17:00Speaker 1: You teased that a little bit.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Is there a better nickname, by the way, than what
- 17:03Speaker 2: we're going to unveil when we come back? Will Weasel Wade.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Looks like one, acts like one. It's just the perfect nickname.
- 17:11Speaker 3: And I think that the coach that we're going to
- 17:13Speaker 3: talk about in this story, Hutton, would probably take it
- 17:15Speaker 3: as a.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Compliment with the nickname that we're going to give him.
- 17:17Speaker 3: They'll probably start making t-shirts for LSU fans with this nickname.
- 17:21Speaker 1: That's next here on Hutton Withrow. Hutton Withrow presented by
- 17:25Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet. Alongside Chad Withrow, I'm Jonathan Hutton. Glad
- 17:27Speaker 1: you're with us this morning. Here at Sport and State, sportandstate.com,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and we're streaming, of course, we're live each and every
- 17:35Speaker 1: morning at our YouTube channel at Hutton and Withrow on YouTube.
- 17:38Speaker 1: We hope you'll subscribe, join us in the chat, and
- 17:40Speaker 1: much more. Chad, describe Will Wade.
- 17:44Speaker 2: The weasel.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Well, first, chat's popping off this morning, so keep it up, guys.
- 17:50Speaker 3: This is really funny. A lot of Jed York jokes
- 17:53Speaker 3: happening right now in the chat, which is making me
- 17:55Speaker 3: grin during the breaks. What a crazy story that was.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Even crazier story to me, Hutton, is the fact that R.J. Lewis,
- 18:02Speaker 3: who was the Big East Player of the Year at St.
- 18:05Speaker 3: John's for Rick Pitino at the end of the 2025 season,
- 18:08Speaker 3: who then went to the NBA, went undrafted, has signed
- 18:11Speaker 3: multiple NBA contracts, signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz,
- 18:16Speaker 3: has played for the Celtics, played in preseason games, never
- 18:19Speaker 3: played in an NBA game, but has been a pro
- 18:22Speaker 3: now for a year.
- 18:23Speaker 2: He was granted a temporary injunction by a Louisiana judge. Shocker.
- 18:29Speaker 3: That a Louisiana judge can side with him now that
- 18:32Speaker 3: he's going to go to LSU and play for Will Wade.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Crazy, crazy story.
- 18:37Speaker 3: The funniest part about all this, Hutton, is as we
- 18:39Speaker 3: call him, Will the Weasel Wade. The weasel was in
- 18:43Speaker 3: the courtroom with R.J. Lewis and R.J. Lewis immediately turned
- 18:46Speaker 3: around and hugged. Will Wade, like he had been exonerated
- 18:51Speaker 3: from a wrongful conviction of a murder.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Not guilty. Yeah, just hugging his family, arms wrapped around him.
- 18:56Speaker 2: We did it, coach. We did it.
- 18:58Speaker 3: We came back from the dead. I went pro, and
- 19:00Speaker 3: I came back. I can't believe this is happening. It's
- 19:02Speaker 3: the greatest day of my life.
- 19:04Speaker 2: R.J. Lewis, apparently, according to a judge, eligible now to
- 19:08Speaker 2: play for LSU after going to the NBA.
- 19:12Speaker 3: The attorney's quotes are really funny. He said, this is precedent.
- 19:16Speaker 3: This is history.
- 19:18Speaker 2: These other players got to play.
- 19:19Speaker 3: They cited Hutton Charles Bediako of Alabama as the president
- 19:24Speaker 3: for a court allowing someone to play, which he did
- 19:27Speaker 3: for Alabama a year ago. So suddenly LSU goes from
- 19:31Speaker 3: possibly a team that was nowhere close to making the
- 19:35Speaker 3: NCAA tournament in year one for Will Wade to RJ Luis.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I know they're talking to some European players that are
- 19:41Speaker 3: playing pro ball in Europe to come play for LSU.
- 19:44Speaker 2: This can be a very good LSU team.
- 19:46Speaker 3: And I'm sitting here completely unsurprised because the weasel is
- 19:49Speaker 3: behind me.
- 19:50Speaker 2: All of it. So this is a former Big East
- 19:54Speaker 2: Player of the Year honor, right? For him? RJ Luis
- 19:58Speaker 2: is a former Big East Player of the Year, yes. Yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 2: And so he's... 2025. Okay.
- 20:03Speaker 1: And so he's been in the NBA for nearly a year.
- 20:06Speaker 1: And he comes most recently to the Celtics?
- 20:10Speaker 3: He was with the Celtics. He played in three Celtics
- 20:12Speaker 3: preseason games. For whatever reason, he didn't play for their
- 20:17Speaker 3: team in Portland, Maine, their.
- 20:19Speaker 2: G League team. Yeah, he would want to. He signed
- 20:22Speaker 2: a contract with the Jazz. I think he got traded
- 20:24Speaker 2: to the Celtics.
- 20:25Speaker 3: He signed three different NBA deals in some way, shape,
- 20:29Speaker 3: or form over the past year.
- 20:31Speaker 2: But now he's back in college. I'd like to know,
- 20:35Speaker 2: how does Will Wade find out about these guys? That's
- 20:39Speaker 2: a great question.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Like, what's the connection to Louisiana other than the fact
- 20:42Speaker 1: that LSU has a spot open?
- 20:44Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I think Will Wade just has– he's
- 20:47Speaker 3: got his ear to the grindstone on every possible agent.
- 20:49Speaker 1: But every coach would, though. But every coach would. Like,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I want to know the coaches that said no. And
- 20:55Speaker 1: then here's Will Wade saying yes. Because it sounds like
- 20:57Speaker 1: it was LSU or nothing.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Look, I think if you have a program, like an
- 21:04Speaker 3: existing program where you have guys that you think you
- 21:06Speaker 3: can get or you can get actual transfer portal guys–
- 21:09Speaker 3: then you're not even considering this because you don't want
- 21:13Speaker 3: to be the guy who goes and does this. Nate
- 21:15Speaker 3: Oates did it because he felt like his back was
- 21:17Speaker 3: up against the wall.
- 21:19Speaker 2: He had injuries. He needed a big man. He's like,
- 21:21Speaker 2: all right, we're going to test it. We're going to
- 21:22Speaker 2: try it.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Will Wade feels like his back's up against the wall
- 21:25Speaker 3: because he didn't have a team. He had like three
- 21:26Speaker 3: or four players on his roster. So he's having to
- 21:29Speaker 3: exhaust every possible avenue to get someone who can come
- 21:32Speaker 3: in and contribute and be a player for him instead
- 21:34Speaker 3: of being a laughingstock in the SEC in year one,
- 21:37Speaker 3: which That certainly is not what Will Wade wants to do.
- 21:40Speaker 2: So I think the guys who already have a program
- 21:42Speaker 2: wouldn't even consider something like this. Unless you have one
- 21:45Speaker 2: spot open.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I don't even want to say the Will Wades of
- 21:47Speaker 3: the world because Will the Weasel Wade is an exception
- 21:51Speaker 3: to most coaches. He's going to do everything, not just
- 21:55Speaker 3: towing the line. Dude's going to do a somersault off
- 21:58Speaker 3: the high dive over that line and do whatever the
- 22:00Speaker 3: hell he.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Wants as a coach. He proved that with his strong
- 22:03Speaker 2: ass offer. You're rewarded for it.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Look around college sports right now and the coaches who
- 22:06Speaker 1: tow the line and the coaches who don't.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't even know what towing the line is
- 22:11Speaker 3: even more. I mean, you know, Rick Barnes is a
- 22:13Speaker 3: deacon amongst college coaches, but it's not like, you know,
- 22:15Speaker 3: he pays top dollar for players. He's going and basing
- 22:19Speaker 3: it off transfer portal guys too.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but Rick.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Barnes would follow the rules if he was told he
- 22:24Speaker 1: wasn't allowed to do that.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Right. You know, just like Josh Heupel's doing. Tennessee, for
- 22:28Speaker 2: whatever reason, follows the rules. They tow the line, they
- 22:30Speaker 2: never cross the line.
- 22:32Speaker 3: I don't understand it. And also, like, what.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I commend them for never crossing the line, but at
- 22:38Speaker 1: the same point, it's like, what's the point of following
- 22:42Speaker 1: protocol if the protocol is not going to be enforced
- 22:44Speaker 1: by those who get away with it?
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Brooks in the chat, by the way, says, the whole story, though,
- 22:49Speaker 3: Betty Occo played six games, then the judge ruled against
- 22:52Speaker 3: him once the TRO was up, and then he was
- 22:55Speaker 3: ruled ineligible and had to leave the team.
- 22:57Speaker 2: So now R.J.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Lewis is citing Betty Occo's precedent, but in fact, it
- 23:02Speaker 3: was only temporary.
- 23:04Speaker 2: With an injunction.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Now, the lawyer does say, Hutton, this clears him up
- 23:09Speaker 3: to go work out, play with the team, practice with
- 23:11Speaker 3: the team, get ready for the season.
- 23:12Speaker 2: While we handle the legal stuff. Yeah.
- 23:15Speaker 3: So this temporary restraining order injunction could, you know, this
- 23:19Speaker 3: could continue on in the court system like Betty Ocko,
- 23:21Speaker 3: to Brooks' point.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Sure.
- 23:22Speaker 3: And maybe he's ruled ineligible before the season happens, or
- 23:25Speaker 3: maybe he plays a week and then he's ineligible again.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Remember the whole James Wiseman thing at Memphis? Oh, sure.
- 23:31Speaker 2: The 12 games.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Right, and how weird that was because then they played
- 23:35Speaker 3: him at one point and then they had to forfeit those.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Games and all that.
- 23:39Speaker 3: You could see kind of an in and out situation
- 23:41Speaker 3: like that where you're not quite sure if he's eligible
- 23:43Speaker 3: or not and then what's going to happen. But then again,
- 23:46Speaker 3: I don't know that Will Wade's going to care about
- 23:49Speaker 3: NCAA penalties or forfeiting games or sanctions.
- 23:52Speaker 2: What's the purpose? Right. And also, what's the purpose of, again,
- 23:58Speaker 2: this is a broader question. And I want everybody in
- 24:02Speaker 2: the chat right now, and thanks to those who are
- 24:04Speaker 2: watching on YouTube with us, Hutton and Withrow, you can
- 24:07Speaker 2: watch us there. You can chat with us throughout the show.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Is there truly a win-loss program value to doing the
- 24:15Speaker 3: right thing? Can we point to coaches and say, this
- 24:22Speaker 3: is a shining example that because this guy does it
- 24:26Speaker 3: the right way, And because he stands for the right things,
- 24:29Speaker 3: he attracts the best type of players. They win consistently.
- 24:34Speaker 3: You know, they may not win the national championship all
- 24:36Speaker 3: the time, but it's just an amazing program that you
- 24:38Speaker 3: can feel good about. I just, it's hard to find
- 24:42Speaker 3: those programs and cite them as like, well, here it
- 24:45Speaker 3: is without something in the past that you'd say, oh, well,
- 24:48Speaker 3: they also did this.
- 24:49Speaker 2: You're right.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Or, you know, they also, they did the exact same
- 24:52Speaker 3: lane Kiffin did with this thing, just in a different way.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Right?
- 24:55Speaker 3: Like it's, In today's college sports, we grew up with guys.
- 24:59Speaker 3: I remember Bobby Bowden, when Spurrier accused him of cheating. Never,
- 25:05Speaker 3: ever in my 35 years of coaching have I ever
- 25:08Speaker 3: been accused of foul play.
- 25:10Speaker 2: And I'm sitting there watching this, and I'm like, yeah,
- 25:12Speaker 2: damn right. Bobby Bowden, he's a Southern gentleman. This guy
- 25:17Speaker 2: probably handed out the offering in the local church when
- 25:20Speaker 2: I was growing up.
- 25:21Speaker 3: He wouldn't pay players under the table. And I'm sure
- 25:23Speaker 3: Bobby Bowden was paying players. And he knew about it. Never, ever.
- 25:28Speaker 3: You know my point. We're no longer children when it
- 25:31Speaker 3: comes to how we see things in college sports. The
- 25:34Speaker 3: innocence is gone. The blindfold has been lifted completely. Innocence removed.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Innocence lost. Blindfold removed. I just don't know who that
- 25:43Speaker 2: person is. Someone point me to that person.
- 25:45Speaker 3: If you're someone who listens to Christian podcasts all the time,
- 25:49Speaker 3: who's the Christian podcast coach that you're going to say,
- 25:53Speaker 3: this is the person.
- 25:54Speaker 2: That you should send your kid to play for?
- 25:56Speaker 3: Because in college football or even college basketball, there are
- 26:00Speaker 3: guys I think are legitimately good people. But because of
- 26:04Speaker 3: the nature of the sport, you've got to get your
- 26:06Speaker 3: hands dirty a little bit. You've got to do things
- 26:08Speaker 3: you previously didn't want to do.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Of the Christian podcast, who's the host that's not hiding
- 26:11Speaker 1: money behind the wall is what you're asking.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Correct. Who's not Jesse Gemstone? Right. Because Will Wade is
- 26:18Speaker 2: Jesse Gemstone. I don't even think he tries to be
- 26:20Speaker 2: Jesse Gemstone anymore. He's not even putting a nice, shiny,
- 26:23Speaker 2: smiley face on it. Will Wade is just being a
- 26:26Speaker 2: weasel out front of everyone now because that's his rep
- 26:29Speaker 2: and that's who he is. I just, I don't know
- 26:32Speaker 2: who that person is. I don't know who that program
- 26:33Speaker 2: is anymore. No, correct me if I'm wrong, Chad, but
- 26:36Speaker 2: on Righteous Gemstones, these storylines, the script was written prior
- 26:42Speaker 2: to a lot of the things happening that came out
- 26:43Speaker 2: in the news, right? And like real life evangelists.
- 26:47Speaker 1: So like the Joel Osteen, like the remodel down in Houston,
- 26:52Speaker 1: they tore down the walls and found money inside.
- 26:54Speaker 2: The wall Yeah. That was already something that was in
- 26:57Speaker 2: the script for Righteous Gemstones?
- 26:59Speaker 3: To be fair, we found some money in my Nana's
- 27:01Speaker 3: wall also when we went to her house.
- 27:03Speaker 2: So that could just be a son of the Depression.
- 27:06Speaker 3: He grew up in hard times, so he just cast
- 27:08Speaker 3: the money away for a rainy day.
- 27:09Speaker 2: He doesn't trust banks, maybe. You think that was just
- 27:12Speaker 2: in the Astrodome?
- 27:14Speaker 3: I think Joel Osteen just didn't trust our banking system
- 27:16Speaker 3: in America, is what that was. So he keeps all
- 27:19Speaker 3: of his money in the walls. Brooke says, Clemson football
- 27:22Speaker 3: has tried this.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Great example. Dabo has tried to tout that.
- 27:25Speaker 3: It's their culture that wins because they're about the right things.
- 27:30Speaker 3: But they've been left behind as a result of that
- 27:33Speaker 3: whole mantra. Literally everyone else is lapping them. Remember, we're
- 27:37Speaker 3: not going to take transfers because we're going to keep
- 27:39Speaker 3: our own guys. We're not going to actively try to
- 27:41Speaker 3: replace players in the transfer portal.
- 27:43Speaker 2: And now even Dabo Sweeney's taking a lot more transfers.
- 27:46Speaker 2: And he's having to do things that he didn't do.
- 27:48Speaker 2: But Brooks brings up a great example. That was Dabo.
- 27:51Speaker 3: But Dabo also gets the rep when they were winning
- 27:54Speaker 3: of kind of a Jesse Gemstone, right?
- 27:57Speaker 2: Like, I'm not completely buying this guy. Like, it seems
- 27:59Speaker 2: kind of phony, right?
- 28:00Speaker 3: I mean, we all know about Hugh Freeze and the
- 28:02Speaker 3: situation there as well, but I just, I want to
- 28:06Speaker 3: believe Hutton, but our innocence is definitely lost, which I
- 28:09Speaker 3: think can be good and bad. Like, when you know everything,
- 28:12Speaker 3: it makes it a little bit easier to connect with
- 28:14Speaker 3: a sport and have an understanding of it.
- 28:16Speaker 2: But I do sort of miss that childlike, ability to.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Not know everything about everyone and what's going on and
- 28:24Speaker 3: sort of believe that this program is good or this
- 28:27Speaker 3: program is bad and they do it the right way
- 28:29Speaker 3: or they do it the wrong way.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I still think that we do have a childlike belief
- 28:33Speaker 1: in sports because there's no telling what we don't know.
- 28:36Speaker 2: We don't know what we don't know.
- 28:39Speaker 1: How much info we don't know is actually happening behind
- 28:42Speaker 1: the scenes. The coaches that are or are not in
- 28:46Speaker 1: bed together or, or, you know, shaking hands, handshakes, but
- 28:50Speaker 1: below the, you know, and the cloak of darkness.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Below the Mason Dixon line, below the Mason Dixon, literally
- 28:58Speaker 3: handshakes below the Mason Dixon line.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Cause a lot of them happen here in the South
- 29:01Speaker 2: with football. Um, you know, a good.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Example of this is, uh, is Tennessee and James Pierce,
- 29:08Speaker 3: like James Pierce. You heard all these character concerns and issues,
- 29:12Speaker 3: like what you're talking about, about just not knowing.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You don't know.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Uh, I, I will give Tennessee full marks for keeping
- 29:18Speaker 3: stuff away from the public.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I had no idea. I know people close to the program.
- 29:22Speaker 2: I'd heard like, oh, well, maybe. It's a childlike innocence
- 29:25Speaker 2: for Tennessee fans. But that's a good job by Josh
- 29:29Speaker 2: Heupel of keeping things under wraps because these are things
- 29:32Speaker 2: I didn't think could happen anymore. Programs for years were
- 29:34Speaker 2: good about, you know, okay, the sheriff's going to call
- 29:37Speaker 2: the coach if, you know, something happens and they're going
- 29:40Speaker 2: to handle it internally. I think of Bud Kilmer in
- 29:42Speaker 2: Varsity Blues when all the townsfolk are, you know, talking
- 29:46Speaker 2: and bitching about his players and he's sitting in the
- 29:48Speaker 2: booth in the diner behind them and he says, my
- 29:50Speaker 2: boy's giving you guys some problems. Oh, no, coach. You know,
- 29:54Speaker 2: they're just kids. Just kids. Just kids. Just kids. Love
- 29:59Speaker 2: that part.
- 29:59Speaker 3: That's basically every local sheriff department in these podunk SEC towns.
- 30:03Speaker 2: If the coach is, hey, my boy's giving you prom. No, no, no, coach.
- 30:06Speaker 2: They're just kids. Just kids being kids. We don't get
- 30:11Speaker 2: that anymore because everything is reported.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Everyone's got a camera on their phone and everybody knows everything.
- 30:16Speaker 3: So I guess high marks to Tennessee for keeping us
- 30:18Speaker 3: in the dark on whatever was going on with James
- 30:20Speaker 3: Pierce because clearly it was something once he got to
- 30:23Speaker 3: the NFL.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Players prove they have no loyalty. That's straight ahead here
- 30:26Speaker 1: on Hutton Withrow. Tony Withrow here at Sport and State.
- 30:30Speaker 1: We are presented by Hard Rock Bet. And it's not
- 30:33Speaker 1: a perfect eight, perfect nine, it's perfect 10. Perfect 10 mortgage.
- 30:37Speaker 1: The name says it all. Apply in 10 minutes, close
- 30:39Speaker 1: in 10 days. That's the whole idea here. The mortgage
- 30:41Speaker 1: that's simple, fast and fair. 10 minutes start to finish
- 30:44Speaker 1: right from your phone. There's no stack of paperwork. No
- 30:47Speaker 1: sitting across a desk from a banker who talks down
- 30:49Speaker 1: to you.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah, you want to talk to a person, right? That's
- 30:53Speaker 3: what you want more than anything. If you're checking your options,
- 30:55Speaker 3: won't ding your credit score. You find out where you
- 30:58Speaker 3: actually stand before you commit to anything. Date the rate,
- 31:01Speaker 3: marry the house, put it on a t-shirt, get the
- 31:04Speaker 3: house you want now, refinance and rates come down. And
- 31:06Speaker 3: how many credit cards are you juggling right now? Every
- 31:08Speaker 3: month you send in the minimum payment, the balance barely
- 31:10Speaker 3: moves because the interest is eating you alive. It doesn't
- 31:13Speaker 3: have to stay that way. With Perfect 10 Mortgage, you
- 31:16Speaker 3: may be able to use the equity you've already built
- 31:18Speaker 3: in your home to pay off those high interest credit
- 31:19Speaker 3: cards and personal loans and roll everything into one simpler
- 31:22Speaker 3: monthly payment, one payment, one due date, a whole lot
- 31:25Speaker 3: less stress. And if you're buying new construction, Ask about
- 31:28Speaker 3: the builder program as well.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Again, remember this.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Don't, excuse me, you do want to date the rate.
- 31:35Speaker 2: You want to marry the house. Date the rate, marry
- 31:38Speaker 2: the house. Straight talk on what you actually qualify for.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Built for real people, not paperwork. Perfect10Mortgage. com or call them
- 31:45Speaker 2: at 855-789-1010.
- 31:47Speaker 3: That's Perfect10Mortgage. com. Perfect 10 Mortgage is an equal housing lender.
- 31:51Speaker 3: Perfect 10 Mortgage is a DBA or network funding LP.
- 31:54Speaker 3: NMLS number 2297, equal housing lender. All borrowers must qualify
- 31:58Speaker 3: this advertisement. It's not a promise to make alone.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Chad, is Zavian Harris, is he perfect 10? He's a
- 32:06Speaker 2: perfect 10 in BS, that's for sure.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Zavian Harris, who talked all sorts of trash when Lane
- 32:13Speaker 3: Kiffin left a year ago. It's great to have real
- 32:16Speaker 3: coaching right now. This guy just feels like he's a troll.
- 32:20Speaker 3: He's trying to get attention away from us and all
- 32:22Speaker 3: we've accomplished.
- 32:23Speaker 2: He didn't really do anything wrong. And I'm adding some
- 32:26Speaker 2: stuff to what he said, but we know what he
- 32:27Speaker 2: was thinking with his comments, right?
- 32:30Speaker 3: Xavier Harris, who acted like Pete Golding and those who
- 32:35Speaker 3: stay will be champions.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Those who stayed are the true champions. Those who stayed
- 32:40Speaker 2: deserve the glory, not the one who left.
- 32:42Speaker 3: And why are we talking about Lane Kiffin? And why
- 32:44Speaker 3: are we doing this and that? And Pete Golding is
- 32:46Speaker 3: a real coach and everything else. And then when push
- 32:50Speaker 3: comes to shove, Hutton, what does Xavier Harris do? Zavian
- 32:54Speaker 3: Harris becomes the second player in history of sports to
- 32:58Speaker 3: go from the NFL to college, to.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Back his ass up. Beep, beep, beep, beep. I'm going
- 33:04Speaker 2: to back up everything I said about Lane Kiffin. I'm
- 33:07Speaker 2: going to back up everything I said about Ole Miss.
- 33:10Speaker 2: I'm going to back right into this nice, cozy parking
- 33:13Speaker 2: spot next to Coach Kiffin in Baton Rouge from the NFL,
- 33:17Speaker 2: and I am going to take my talents and from
- 33:19Speaker 2: the NFL to Baton Rouge, back to college, and releases
- 33:24Speaker 2: a statement that simply says, I had to make a
- 33:28Speaker 2: business decision. On this again, someone in the chat just asked,
- 33:36Speaker 2: was it better when all of the payments were made
- 33:39Speaker 2: under the table?
- 33:40Speaker 3: And my answer is a thousand percent yes. In many ways,
- 33:44Speaker 3: ignorance is bliss. When we didn't know what we didn't know,
- 33:47Speaker 3: I think it was better. Was it better for the
- 33:49Speaker 3: structure of the sport?
- 33:50Speaker 2: Maybe, maybe not.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I think this would be better if there were rules
- 33:53Speaker 3: and regulations in terms of what you can pay and
- 33:56Speaker 3: when you can leave.
- 33:57Speaker 1: But when payments were made underneath the table, everyone assumed
- 34:00Speaker 1: everyone was doing it. Well, everyone's doing it. In this case,
- 34:05Speaker 1: at least we know not everyone's doing it to the
- 34:07Speaker 1: extent that we see at this level.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Right, right. but again, like this is okay.
- 34:17Speaker 3: We just talked about what coaches stand on something, right?
- 34:20Speaker 3: Brooks brought up a good example. Dabo Sweeney's a guy
- 34:23Speaker 3: who claims to stand for something. He wanted to be
- 34:26Speaker 3: the program of principle of sticking together of, you know,
- 34:29Speaker 3: process together.
- 34:31Speaker 2: All of that. And now he's had to abandon that
- 34:32Speaker 2: because they kept losing. And now he's had to embrace
- 34:35Speaker 2: the portal and NIL and everything else, right? He's got
- 34:37Speaker 2: to get rid of his old school ways.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Um, I'm not saying we're going to go back to
- 34:42Speaker 3: 1950 and how we view sports and do.
- 34:45Speaker 2: All that, right? But this goes back to what I
- 34:49Speaker 2: said yesterday, Hutton. I know I don't want to disparage
- 34:53Speaker 2: all college athletes. I'm sure there are people who exemplify
- 34:57Speaker 2: loyalty all the time. Shane Beamer talked about Lenora Sellers, right?
- 35:01Speaker 3: Had a chance to go to other places probably for
- 35:03Speaker 3: more money, but he's from South Carolina. He had a
- 35:06Speaker 3: difficult season last year here. He wanted to prove it
- 35:09Speaker 3: here at South Carolina.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Great.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Maybe Lenore Sellers does stand on something. He stands on business.
- 35:15Speaker 3: But the only business that most of these guys stand on,
- 35:18Speaker 3: and this is the unfortunate reality of it, and Xavion
- 35:22Speaker 3: is the latest example, right?
- 35:24Speaker 2: Xavion.
- 35:25Speaker 3: They stand on, where am I going to get paid?
- 35:29Speaker 3: I don't care if this guy is actually Satan. which
- 35:32Speaker 3: I'm not claiming Lane Kiffin is Satan.
- 35:34Speaker 2: But he basically called Lane Kiffin Satan, a troll, not
- 35:38Speaker 2: a real football coach, not loyal, all these things.
- 35:42Speaker 3: And when he had the chance to go back and
- 35:43Speaker 3: get paid in college football, which, by the way, the
- 35:45Speaker 3: dude could have gotten paid at a lot of SEC schools.
- 35:47Speaker 2: He could have. I'm sure. You know what he did?
- 35:50Speaker 3: He went right back to Lane Kiffin. If that doesn't
- 35:53Speaker 3: make you cynical about the whole process, I don't.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Know what will.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Was there not a second option for the guy? I mean,
- 36:01Speaker 1: he had to go back to Satan?
- 36:03Speaker 3: Again, of course there was. I guarantee you Pete Golding
- 36:07Speaker 3: would have made room for him.
- 36:09Speaker 2: I'm not calling Pete Golding Lucifer either, but I bet
- 36:12Speaker 2: Pete Golding may have put a guy aside that was
- 36:15Speaker 2: going to be a starter to bring this guy back
- 36:18Speaker 2: who's a veteran. A guy who helped him in the
- 36:21Speaker 2: college football playoff win games.
- 36:23Speaker 1: He's not Lucifer. In South Park, he's just Saddam. He's
- 36:26Speaker 1: like the number two. He's not Satan.
- 36:29Speaker 2: He's just Saddam.
- 36:31Speaker 3: He's satan's lieutenant his first first lieutenant look i it's
- 36:38Speaker 3: been a lot of lsu to start the show today
- 36:40Speaker 3: because that's where all the news is coming out of
- 36:42Speaker 3: right now when you look at lane kiffin and will
- 36:45Speaker 3: wade and now xavion xavion harris xavion which by the
- 36:49Speaker 3: way i've never seen a silent x in a name
- 36:52Speaker 3: like this like second you know like xavier.
- 36:55Speaker 2: With a z it's z right Yeah, but the Z
- 36:59Speaker 2: is in the name. That's what I'm saying, the Z.
- 37:02Speaker 3: It seems redundant to put the X afterward. If it
- 37:05Speaker 3: was Xavier and you pronounce the X with a Z
- 37:09Speaker 3: like you do Xavier, the college, then that's one thing.
- 37:13Speaker 3: But adding the X is really something. It's quite the
- 37:15Speaker 3: redundant letter in the name. I have to double check
- 37:19Speaker 3: on my dry erase board here every time I.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Look at it. That is Xavier. No, it's Xavier. When
- 37:25Speaker 2: Xavier Harris... besmirches the good name of Lane Kiffin when
- 37:30Speaker 2: he leaves for LSU, who, by the way, Lane Kiffin
- 37:32Speaker 2: told everyone, guys, had to make a business decision. LSU
- 37:36Speaker 2: wins national titles. Ole Miss doesn't. Ole Miss is racist.
- 37:40Speaker 2: LSU isn't. I mean, he's said a lot of things
- 37:42Speaker 2: since he left, right, that he then had to apologize
- 37:45Speaker 2: for later.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin made a business decision. What does Zavian Harris do? Guys,
- 37:49Speaker 3: I'm going to post this on my Instagram. Respect my decision.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Had to make a business decision. Had to go play
- 37:54Speaker 3: for Lane Kiffin. It's really just laughable.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I would love to know, like, what other decisions did
- 38:01Speaker 1: the dude have?
- 38:02Speaker 2: You know? Right.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Was it that or be cut and go to a
- 38:05Speaker 1: practice squad somewhere else? Maybe it was that or go
- 38:08Speaker 1: to the Titans practice squad. He made the right call.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Catfish Jake says, going from the NFL to college is
- 38:14Speaker 3: loser beta non-alpha behavior.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Well, it depends.
- 38:19Speaker 3: I mean, yes, but also, like, if everybody, if you
- 38:23Speaker 3: had a magic genie, And you were like, you know,
- 38:27Speaker 3: you can go back to this and dominate and make
- 38:30Speaker 3: more money doing it.
- 38:31Speaker 2: The money could be better. Yeah, exactly.
- 38:33Speaker 1: The money could be better. The playing time is going
- 38:35Speaker 1: to be better. And he's going to be cut anyway.
- 38:38Speaker 3: What you're admitting is I'm not cutting it in the NFL.
- 38:41Speaker 3: So it's tough when you like admit that to everyone, right?
- 38:45Speaker 3: That that's the case. Diego Pavia. is kind of an
- 38:49Speaker 3: example of this. We saw Diego Pavia at an event,
- 38:52Speaker 3: and I went up to him and I said, man,
- 38:54Speaker 3: I think you've got a good chance to have a
- 38:55Speaker 3: good long career as a backup in the NFL. I
- 38:58Speaker 3: thought I was complimenting the guy. I really thought I
- 39:00Speaker 3: was saying, hey, good job, man. His reaction to what
- 39:03Speaker 3: I love.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but I know where you're going with this. Yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 2: and what was his response? He was pissed.
- 39:11Speaker 3: I'm a starter on day one. The dude said, I'm
- 39:13Speaker 3: going to start in my first year in the NFL.
- 39:15Speaker 3: What happened to Diego Pavia? They got cut before training
- 39:19Speaker 3: camp started. He's probably going to be able to play for.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Randy. That's right.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Diego Pavia wasn't even, to me, at a restaurant opening,
- 39:29Speaker 3: willing to admit that he wasn't a starter right away.
- 39:33Speaker 2: In the NFL, right? So if you're the guy like
- 39:35Speaker 2: Daniel Harris who just admits to everyone that I'm not
- 39:40Speaker 2: an NFL player, I need to go back to college,
- 39:42Speaker 2: that is a big admission to NFL teams also. So
- 39:45Speaker 2: from that perspective, Jake's right. It is sort of a
- 39:47Speaker 2: loser beta move to.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Admit that, but also that's their best option right now.
- 39:52Speaker 3: They can go back to college and make a lot
- 39:53Speaker 3: more money.
- 39:54Speaker 1: But to those guys, unless you're on the active roster
- 39:57Speaker 1: in the NFL, it's a beta move to go to
- 39:59Speaker 1: a practice squad whenever you can be a starter in
- 40:01Speaker 1: college football and make more money. And by the way,
- 40:08Speaker 1: it's not, I guess his argument, I'm going to Harris now.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Not, not Pavia. His argument would be, I wouldn't even
- 40:14Speaker 2: be here.
- 40:15Speaker 1: If, if I was allowed my fifth year, my fifth
- 40:19Speaker 1: year option is why I'm going back.
- 40:22Speaker 2: It's been granted. It's been open.
- 40:24Speaker 1: And that wasn't available to me whenever I had to
- 40:25Speaker 1: make the call to go to a practice squad. So
- 40:28Speaker 1: he's clinging, you know, he's, He's clinging onto a practice squad,
- 40:31Speaker 1: which is, I don't even know if that's where he
- 40:33Speaker 1: would be, Chad, because the Browns let him go. I
- 40:36Speaker 1: still go back to, they let him go without even
- 40:39Speaker 1: speaking to Lane Kevin, right?
- 40:44Speaker 2: It's just, I don't look at it as a beta
- 40:46Speaker 2: move for what he did. In fact, it's more of
- 40:49Speaker 2: an alpha move.
- 40:50Speaker 1: He's spiking on not just, he's spiking on the rules,
- 40:55Speaker 1: but he's also going back to spike on the college
- 40:57Speaker 1: players that he's, going to be lined up across from him.
- 40:59Speaker 1: He already knows he's an NFL caliber camp player. That's
- 41:03Speaker 1: good for him.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I think it's a smart move. I'd take alpha beta
- 41:07Speaker 2: away from it. It's just a smart business move. It's
- 41:09Speaker 2: no beta move. It's no beta move. Yeah, it's just
- 41:12Speaker 2: the smart business move.
- 41:13Speaker 3: If these guys are able to get away with it,
- 41:15Speaker 3: it's the smart way to go make more money.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Let me ask you, Chad. To me, it would be
- 41:21Speaker 1: a smart move to follow what LSU's doing.
- 41:26Speaker 3: I don't know how many people can do it because
- 41:28Speaker 3: there's 15 guys that are trying to do it right now.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Well, but there could be more than 15. There are
- 41:33Speaker 1: just 15 who filed the lawsuit.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going to get into that in the next
- 41:36Speaker 3: segment about how big of a deal is this actually.
- 41:39Speaker 3: I don't think it's as big of a deal as
- 41:41Speaker 3: people are making it out to be. It's not like
- 41:42Speaker 3: a national epidemic with guys leaving the NFL to go
- 41:45Speaker 3: back to college. It's a few guys right now, and
- 41:48Speaker 3: there are going to be a few more. These aren't
- 41:49Speaker 3: the last ones. There's going to be a few more.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I don't think all of them will end up at LSU,
- 41:53Speaker 3: but I think a majority. We'll probably end up at
- 41:55Speaker 3: LSU for Lane Kiffin because of what he's doing. But again,
- 41:58Speaker 3: going back to just Harris specifically, the argument from me,
- 42:03Speaker 3: if I'm Harris and the agent, and I don't know
- 42:05Speaker 3: how smart his agent is or how he's going to
- 42:07Speaker 3: position it, is sort of like you said, hey, we
- 42:10Speaker 3: didn't know we had a fifth year possible. We looked
- 42:12Speaker 3: into it legally. We got the fifth year. My client
- 42:16Speaker 3: can play in the NFL, but he will be better
- 42:18Speaker 3: served if he goes back to the SEC for a
- 42:21Speaker 3: year and seasons himself for a year. and next year
- 42:24Speaker 3: he's going to get drafted and he's going to be
- 42:26Speaker 3: on a roster locked in because of where he goes
- 42:28Speaker 3: in the draft. That's what I'm arguing. I'm spinning it,
- 42:31Speaker 3: whether I believe that or not. And look, there are
- 42:33Speaker 3: plenty of college players in football and basketball that are
- 42:36Speaker 3: not good pro prospects, that are not going to be
- 42:39Speaker 3: top draft picks, that are not going.
- 42:41Speaker 2: To make it on an NFL team. Diego Pavi is
- 42:43Speaker 2: a great example of this. Diego Pavi was never seen
- 42:46Speaker 2: as a great pro prospect. He's a hell of a
- 42:47Speaker 2: college football player. He was a transformational player for Vanderbilt football.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Those guys, if given the ability to go back and
- 42:55Speaker 3: make more money, it's a smart move for them. And look,
- 42:58Speaker 3: if you're a junior and you're a captain and a
- 43:01Speaker 3: stud linebacker but you're a step too slow or you're
- 43:04Speaker 3: a safety who's a little bit big and too slow
- 43:06Speaker 3: in college football but you know you're a great player
- 43:08Speaker 3: for that team, you get a little bit more money
- 43:10Speaker 3: and come back to school. I would never go pro
- 43:12Speaker 3: early if I were these guys unless that was a first,
- 43:15Speaker 3: maybe second-round pick guaranteed because if not, if you're in
- 43:19Speaker 3: a top.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Program, you're going to get paid to stay. Or if
- 43:21Speaker 2: you have an injury history. Like Aaron Carter.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Yeah, if you have a lingering injury history and you're like, yeah,
- 43:30Speaker 1: now's the time to go.
- 43:32Speaker 2: That's why you would go pro early. That way you
- 43:34Speaker 2: don't get dinged again.
- 43:36Speaker 1: But in Aaron Carter's case, at least he's got two
- 43:38Speaker 1: less games because his coach won't play him.
- 43:40Speaker 2: He's got two less games that he's not going to
- 43:43Speaker 2: have to get injured in. Unfortunately for him.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Chad, the other thing about it is a lot of
- 43:50Speaker 1: these A lot of these rosters, they're not necessarily taking
- 43:54Speaker 1: up a roster spot from somebody because it's a roster
- 43:56Speaker 1: spot that's been left open for them.
- 43:58Speaker 2: It's been a foregone conclusion.
- 44:01Speaker 3: So the number now is 105, I think, and good
- 44:04Speaker 3: stuff going on in the chat right now as well.
- 44:06Speaker 3: So keep hitting us up there in the YouTube chat.
- 44:08Speaker 3: The roster number is 105, and they don't have walk-ons.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Right. Like walk-ons now get elevated. Right.
- 44:16Speaker 3: Most of the programs are probably hovering around that number.
- 44:19Speaker 3: I guess LSU is below it.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, Lane Kevin's going to make
- 44:22Speaker 2: it work either way.
- 44:23Speaker 3: And that's what Dan Lanning was getting at. We played
- 44:26Speaker 3: the audio of Lanning yesterday, and he just said, by
- 44:30Speaker 3: the way, that's a good example. Maybe Dan Lanning is
- 44:32Speaker 3: one of those guys who kind of seems to stand
- 44:34Speaker 3: for the right things with his program.
- 44:36Speaker 2: But he was like, look, I don't want to do
- 44:38Speaker 2: this to myself. Oh, I'm not saying he doesn't pay people.
- 44:42Speaker 3: I'm saying he's like, if I've committed to you, I'm
- 44:44Speaker 3: going to commit to you, and I'm not going to
- 44:45Speaker 3: boot you off the roster for an NFL player.
- 44:48Speaker 2: At least he said it publicly.
- 44:48Speaker 1: I don't think guys are getting booted off rosters. I
- 44:51Speaker 1: think there are roster spots open on purpose. Right, but
- 44:54Speaker 1: I'm saying if there's not, you're going to boot somebody
- 44:57Speaker 1: off the roster.
- 44:58Speaker 2: I don't know if that's happening. That's my point. I
- 45:00Speaker 2: don't either, but do you think Lane Kiffin would do that?
- 45:03Speaker 2: Because I do. I don't think he's doing it. I know,
- 45:06Speaker 2: but if he had the option and he said this
- 45:09Speaker 2: guy's not going to play and this guy from the
- 45:11Speaker 2: NFL is going to play, would he boot the other
- 45:12Speaker 2: guy off the roster? I think he's long known. He
- 45:15Speaker 2: would 100% boot the guy off the roster. And Dan
- 45:17Speaker 2: Lanning would too if it helped him win a national championship. Yeah, well,
- 45:21Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 45:22Speaker 3: He says he wouldn't, so I've got to go by
- 45:24Speaker 3: what Dan Lanning said. I don't know Dan Lanning to
- 45:26Speaker 3: be a liar like Lane Kiffin. I know Dan Lanning
- 45:30Speaker 3: to be one of the top coaches in college football
- 45:32Speaker 3: and not Dabo. Yeah, well, Dan Lanning's not Dabo. He's
- 45:36Speaker 3: going to the college football playoff regularly.
- 45:38Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. And they're spending a ton of money,
- 45:39Speaker 2: and they're doing well in the transfer portal.
- 45:41Speaker 3: So that's not the same comparison at all for what
- 45:44Speaker 3: Dan Lanning does.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I said that he's not. I said that he's going
- 45:48Speaker 2: to adapt.
- 45:49Speaker 1: If he has a chance to win the national title
- 45:50Speaker 1: and bring a player in, he's going to do it.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Every single coach has been asked about this now. What
- 45:55Speaker 3: I'm saying is Dan Lanning is the only guy that
- 45:58Speaker 3: I know of that said, I'm not going to do
- 46:00Speaker 3: it because it sends a bad message to your current roster.
- 46:03Speaker 3: If you do that, Ryan Day was asked about it.
- 46:05Speaker 3: What did he say? I hate it, but guess what?
- 46:08Speaker 3: I'm going to look into it because if somebody can
- 46:10Speaker 3: help Ohio State and not somebody else, we're going to
- 46:13Speaker 3: bring them in and we're going to recruit them from
- 46:15Speaker 3: the NFL ranks if this continues to be a thing.
- 46:17Speaker 3: To me, that is like the standard baseline college coaching answer.
- 46:22Speaker 3: I think that's what everybody believes. Even Lane Kiffin said,
- 46:25Speaker 3: I mean, if you ask me if I think this
- 46:26Speaker 3: is right, I'd say no about NFL players coming back.
- 46:29Speaker 2: But again, it's us or them.
- 46:32Speaker 3: So if it's possibly going to be them, it's going
- 46:34Speaker 3: to be us that's going to get these good players
- 46:36Speaker 3: coming back from the NFL. I totally understand the logic
- 46:38Speaker 3: behind that. Look, I just think Lanning, yeah, I mean,
- 46:42Speaker 3: are they paying?
- 46:43Speaker 2: Of course.
- 46:44Speaker 3: They're one of the probably eight programs paying over $ 40
- 46:47Speaker 3: million for their roster.
- 46:48Speaker 2: They're spending money and doing all that. But I give
- 46:51Speaker 2: him credit.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Now, he may come back on it and completely defy
- 46:54Speaker 3: what he said, but I give him credit for at
- 46:56Speaker 3: least saying, yeah, I'm not going to do it because
- 46:57Speaker 3: I think it sends a bad message to your roster.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Where I think pretty much every.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Other coach would take the Ryan Day approach of, you know,
- 47:04Speaker 3: I don't like it, but I'm still going to do
- 47:06Speaker 3: it if it helps me. To which then the argument becomes,
- 47:09Speaker 3: if you hate it so much, the coaches could just
- 47:12Speaker 3: all agree not to do it and not abide by
- 47:15Speaker 3: the court orders and say, we're just not going to
- 47:16Speaker 3: take them.
- 47:17Speaker 2: But you and I both know that's never going to happen.
- 47:20Speaker 2: That's not happening. Never going to happen. Never.
- 47:23Speaker 1: We discussed what Orlovsky had to say about this. That's
- 47:25Speaker 1: straight ahead here on Hunting With Roke. Tony Withrow, we
- 47:28Speaker 1: are presented by Hard Rock Bets.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Let's just know about Clay Travis Law. Accidents don't wait
- 47:34Speaker 2: for good timing.
- 47:35Speaker 1: One bad moment, a wreck, a fall, a doctor who
- 47:37Speaker 1: wasn't paying attention, and suddenly you're fighting an insurance company
- 47:40Speaker 1: that does this every single day. That's why Clay started
- 47:44Speaker 1: Clay Travis Law. He's a Vanderbilt Law grad. He built
- 47:46Speaker 1: a firm around one idea. People who deserve someone that
- 47:50Speaker 1: are willing to pay attention, ask the hard questions, push
- 47:54Speaker 1: back when things don't add up. experienced trial attorneys who
- 47:57Speaker 1: bring the fight to corporations and insurers based in Nashville,
- 47:59Speaker 1: trusted across the country.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Car and truck wrecks, ride share accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 48:05Speaker 3: product liability. If you were wrong, they want to hear
- 48:08Speaker 3: about it. And here's what they promise. Honesty, like Dan Lanning.
- 48:12Speaker 3: They don't sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth,
- 48:16Speaker 3: not what you want to hear. The case evaluation is free,
- 48:18Speaker 3: no charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story.
- 48:22Speaker 3: Go to claytravislaw.com or call 877- 222-4444.
- 48:25Speaker 2: That's claytravislaw.com. No case is too big or too small. Chad,
- 48:34Speaker 2: we were discussing with JT during the break a good
- 48:37Speaker 2: point by him. JT.
- 48:38Speaker 3: JT is passionate, fired up about this because it hits
- 48:42Speaker 3: home for him with some travel ball examples of this
- 48:46Speaker 3: very thing we're talking about of always looking for the
- 48:50Speaker 3: better option and how that affects your current team.
- 48:52Speaker 4: JT, you have the floor. Yeah, I'm not mad at Kiffin.
- 48:57Speaker 4: I would do the same thing. And the players that
- 48:59Speaker 4: are coming back, if there's an opportunity to play and
- 49:01Speaker 4: get paid, you do that. But Chad, you've lived this world,
- 49:04Speaker 4: and now I've been in it for a couple of years.
- 49:06Speaker 4: You've got a travel ball, softball, baseball team, whatever it is,
- 49:11Speaker 4: and you're struggling. Or even you're doing good, and your
- 49:14Speaker 4: kid's at the bottom of that roster. Or maybe your
- 49:16Speaker 4: friend's kid's at the bottom of that roster. And then
- 49:19Speaker 4: all of a sudden, you find out on Friday before
- 49:22Speaker 4: the Saturday that you're going to spend 17 hours at
- 49:25Speaker 4: the ball field that somebody's bringing in a kid that
- 49:27Speaker 4: nobody knows his or her name. And she's a ringer.
- 49:30Speaker 4: And you guys win a couple of games and you
- 49:32Speaker 4: get to stay there all day because you've won. And
- 49:34Speaker 4: that's amazing. But guess what? There's another kid that's been
- 49:38Speaker 4: there for six months. It's been at practice every single
- 49:41Speaker 4: day for a couple of days a week, three or
- 49:43Speaker 4: four days a week in some cases. And our parents
- 49:46Speaker 4: have traveled and paid the money and you're paying money
- 49:49Speaker 4: to be on the team. And this kid's not. And
- 49:51Speaker 4: guess what? Your kid's not playing now or the next
- 49:54Speaker 4: kid's not playing. You know, it makes me, it happened
- 49:58Speaker 4: to us and it's happened to you, I'm sure. It
- 50:00Speaker 4: makes you, we talk about coaches that are, you know,
- 50:04Speaker 4: the right, doing the right things.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Pissed off, right?
- 50:07Speaker 4: I mean, nothing is going to be fair about it,
- 50:10Speaker 4: but there's a very fine line, and I agree with Lanning,
- 50:13Speaker 4: but I also agree with Kiffin and Day and everybody else,
- 50:17Speaker 4: but man, it opens up the floodgates of emotion for,
- 50:21Speaker 4: and nobody cares about roster spot 105, right? I mean,
- 50:25Speaker 4: let's be honest. Nobody cares about that kid, but that
- 50:28Speaker 4: kid and his family do, and the kids that he's
- 50:31Speaker 4: in the room, in the dorm room with, and whatever
- 50:34Speaker 4: it happens to be, so just kind.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Of Yeah, and look, it's a great point, JT. It's
- 50:40Speaker 3: not just affecting roster spot 105, too. It's affecting roster
- 50:44Speaker 3: spot 18 in some cases because it's someone who's going
- 50:46Speaker 3: to come in and replace a starter who could be
- 50:48Speaker 3: your 12th person on the roster if you're doing a
- 50:50Speaker 3: depth chart of talent on the team because they're better
- 50:53Speaker 3: than that person.
- 50:54Speaker 2: So it does affect even more than that.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Now, if you boot someone off, it's affecting roster spot 105.
- 50:59Speaker 3: I never had this happen because I've coached the travel
- 51:03Speaker 3: teams I've been a part of, and I would never
- 51:04Speaker 3: do it.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Or allow it.
- 51:07Speaker 3: I think in all things, clear communication is key when
- 51:10Speaker 3: you're talking.
- 51:11Speaker 2: To players, parents, whatever it may be. Now, I brought
- 51:15Speaker 2: on a player.
- 51:15Speaker 3: One time before a season because they were cut from
- 51:18Speaker 3: another team and I knew that player was going to
- 51:20Speaker 3: help us. And even though it gave us one more player,
- 51:23Speaker 3: which I didn't love having that many players on a roster,
- 51:26Speaker 3: I told the parents, like, look, this is my decision.
- 51:29Speaker 3: I'm doing it. I'm giving you plenty of advance. This
- 51:31Speaker 3: is before even practices started for the next season. Because
- 51:34Speaker 3: this player can help us a lot. And there was
- 51:37Speaker 3: an injury concern on the team, too. But this is
- 51:39Speaker 3: my decision. If you don't like it, deal with it.
- 51:41Speaker 3: You can talk to me about it, but we're going
- 51:42Speaker 3: to do this. And no one said a word about it.
- 51:45Speaker 3: But I think if you were in the travel ball
- 51:46Speaker 3: system and you're the type of coach who's going to
- 51:48Speaker 3: bring in three different pickup players every single week to
- 51:52Speaker 3: try to try them out to see if they're better
- 51:54Speaker 3: than your current team, you may win some games doing that.
- 51:57Speaker 2: You're losing the war, right? You're winning some battles. You're
- 52:01Speaker 2: losing the war. Now, to compare that to college sports...
- 52:04Speaker 2: It's tough to compare.
- 52:06Speaker 3: It's the same type of concept of team sports, but
- 52:09Speaker 3: a lot more money is at play here. These guys
- 52:12Speaker 3: are trying to keep their job. There's no risk of
- 52:14Speaker 3: being fired as the travel ball coach, right, if you
- 52:17Speaker 3: don't do something like that to take the best possible
- 52:19Speaker 3: player and all of that.
- 52:21Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm cynical now, JT.
- 52:23Speaker 3: I think you need to have something that you stand
- 52:26Speaker 3: for the right things in travel ball, absolutely, or use sports.
- 52:29Speaker 3: That's still a thing. But when you get to that level, sadly– Hutton,
- 52:33Speaker 3: I don't know how much it matters anymore to parents
- 52:37Speaker 3: or players out there if somebody's doing the right thing
- 52:39Speaker 3: or not or whatever.
- 52:40Speaker 2: They see the right thing as being. Well, you just
- 52:43Speaker 2: jump right back into the portal, JT. That's what they do.
- 52:48Speaker 4: Surprisingly, you guys won't believe this, but that's what we've done.
- 52:52Speaker 4: We've got a new team this year, baby.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Nice. Congrats. And does this coach, is he going to
- 52:56Speaker 2: take three pickup players for every tournament? I hope not.
- 52:59Speaker 2: I hope not. I think we're in good hands. Good. Well,
- 53:03Speaker 2: congratulations to the winning team, JT.
- 53:05Speaker 1: I mean, roster spot 105 can go back to Division
- 53:07Speaker 1: II and act like they went to the NFL and
- 53:10Speaker 1: they're going back to college. They had a little taste
- 53:13Speaker 1: of LSU, and now they want to go back to
- 53:15Speaker 1: Austin Peay.
- 53:17Speaker 2: That's right. JT, thank you. So, speaking of opening up the.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Floodgates, there's Dan Orlovsky, Chad, who is worried that we're
- 53:26Speaker 1: doing just that.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Yeah, so Dan Orlovsky was on one of the shows
- 53:31Speaker 2: on ESPN. One of the many that he's used on. Yeah,
- 53:34Speaker 2: it could have been Get Up. It could have been PTI.
- 53:37Speaker 2: I don't know. It could have been SportsCenter.
- 53:38Speaker 3: It could have been Monday Night Countdown. Again, all the
- 53:41Speaker 3: same to me. One of the many shows he appeared
- 53:44Speaker 3: on yesterday. And he talked about Daquan Harris specifically and
- 53:49Speaker 3: how this is a floodgate opening up moment for the
- 53:52Speaker 3: sport because now anyone who's at the end of an
- 53:55Speaker 3: NFL roster that's not going to make it is going
- 53:57Speaker 3: to run back to college football for eternity.
- 54:01Speaker 2: Let's specify these lawsuits.
- 54:04Speaker 3: Are in conjunction with the class of 2022 that came
- 54:07Speaker 3: into college. They were arguing before the NCAA decided to
- 54:12Speaker 3: give a fifth year, which they have now, to every
- 54:14Speaker 3: student athlete that they wanted that fifth year in advance.
- 54:17Speaker 3: That came later, so now they have filed injunctions or
- 54:21Speaker 3: they've filed court cases to be granted that fifth year
- 54:24Speaker 3: of eligibility. I don't think this is going to be
- 54:27Speaker 3: an every year problem. Right now, everybody's got the fifth
- 54:31Speaker 3: year and they know the rules. But I mean, is
- 54:36Speaker 3: there a world where someone's going to come back who's
- 54:38Speaker 3: 30 years old, who gets cut from an NFL team
- 54:40Speaker 3: that's played seven years in a row and says, hey,
- 54:43Speaker 3: I'm losing out on money making opportunities.
- 54:46Speaker 2: And this guy got a fourth year. So there can't
- 54:47Speaker 2: be a 2023 injunction? No, because they already have a
- 54:51Speaker 2: fifth year.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Everybody that came after 2022 now has a fifth year
- 54:55Speaker 3: of the NCAA.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Okay, so they have their fifth year to play four
- 55:01Speaker 2: or five to play five?
- 55:03Speaker 3: They got five. They can play them. You don't get
- 55:05Speaker 3: a red shirt, but you got five to play five.
- 55:08Speaker 3: You can play five years. So no lawsuits from 2023.
- 55:10Speaker 2: Okay. Right.
- 55:12Speaker 3: My point is this is a one-year thing, and I
- 55:15Speaker 3: think it's just a handful.
- 55:16Speaker 2: They'll find something else to file a lawsuit about, though. Yeah. Yeah. Right.
- 55:24Speaker 2: I mean, maybe. Yeah.
- 55:25Speaker 3: Look, again, my argument is I don't think it's a
- 55:28Speaker 3: big thing because I think this is a one year
- 55:30Speaker 3: blip where guys are doing this right now and then
- 55:33Speaker 3: it's not going to be this floodgate situation. Now, I
- 55:37Speaker 3: look back at the 2020 football season and it's all
- 55:39Speaker 3: a blur to me.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Like, did it exist when fans were in the stadium?
- 55:43Speaker 3: I think Alabama won the national title that year with
- 55:45Speaker 3: Mac Jones, but I'm not completely sure if that actually happened.
- 55:49Speaker 3: I think people view this as, okay, if LSU adds
- 55:53Speaker 3: all 15 guys that did this, and then they go
- 55:56Speaker 3: out and all 15 of these guys start after playing
- 55:59Speaker 3: in the NFL, and they win a national title in
- 56:01Speaker 3: year one, do we view this whole season as stained
- 56:05Speaker 3: in some way? I don't think that's going to be
- 56:07Speaker 3: the case. I think it's a huge story. I think
- 56:10Speaker 3: it's a big story right now for the individual teams
- 56:13Speaker 3: and rosters that add these guys. I think college game
- 56:15Speaker 3: day and big noon kickoff, are going to talk about
- 56:18Speaker 3: these players that left NFL training camps to go to colleges,
- 56:21Speaker 3: and they're all going to be a discussion point in
- 56:23Speaker 3: each individual broadcast of those games. Do I think this
- 56:27Speaker 3: is an eternal damnation for the sport that now guys
- 56:31Speaker 3: are going to go to the NFL every single year
- 56:33Speaker 3: and just turn around and go back to college? No,
- 56:36Speaker 3: I don't, because this is something dealing with the 2022 class.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and as far as the floodgates, the floodgates– there
- 56:47Speaker 1: will be something that allows a pro player to come
- 56:50Speaker 1: back and.
- 56:50Speaker 2: Do something like that. This is just the beginning.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Like I think we're all becoming numb to the court cases, right?
- 56:57Speaker 1: Like I can't tell you that I can't differentiate between
- 57:00Speaker 1: what court cases, what injunction and what's not. The question
- 57:04Speaker 1: would be like, how long does it last? Like, is
- 57:07Speaker 1: there going to be like a stay? Is there another
- 57:10Speaker 1: court or another judge that comes in and like pauses
- 57:13Speaker 1: everything after we've talked about it for two weeks? That,
- 57:17Speaker 1: to me, is the cyclical nature of what we're doing,
- 57:20Speaker 1: not necessarily the example that Orlovsky's talking about.
- 57:26Speaker 2: I think the big risk of all of this is.
- 57:30Speaker 3: When Diego Pavia got the Juco thing, that whatever the
- 57:34Speaker 3: Juco year didn't count or all that. Remember all the
- 57:37Speaker 3: jokes that, well, now Aaron Rodgers is eligible because he
- 57:41Speaker 3: played Juco and then went to Cal after that to
- 57:44Speaker 3: come back to college football?
- 57:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:46Speaker 3: It's going to take like Enos Cantor freedom trying to
- 57:49Speaker 3: join the WNBA draft, which the WNBA has now said, yeah,
- 57:52Speaker 3: it's not going to happen.
- 57:53Speaker 2: This is a publicity stunt, and we're not going to
- 57:56Speaker 2: allow it.
- 57:56Speaker 3: Any of the men that are trying to play in
- 57:58Speaker 3: the league, they've actually said, not going to happen, right?
- 58:00Speaker 3: Even though they still won't define a woman on it,
- 58:03Speaker 3: he can't be in it. I think if you have
- 58:06Speaker 3: someone who's been a seven-year pro who's like, hey, I
- 58:09Speaker 3: got hurt, and I eventually got cut from the NFL,
- 58:11Speaker 3: but I can go back to college and dominate even
- 58:14Speaker 3: though I'm 29 years old and I'm going to file
- 58:17Speaker 3: a court order in the state in which I want
- 58:19Speaker 3: to play.
- 58:20Speaker 2: Let's say it's LSU.
- 58:21Speaker 3: Let's say he goes to Louisiana and files it and says, hey,
- 58:24Speaker 3: I only played three years. I left after my junior year.
- 58:28Speaker 3: All these other guys signed with agents, played in the pros.
- 58:31Speaker 2: R.J.
- 58:31Speaker 3: Lewis played in the NBA, made money, signed this, and
- 58:34Speaker 3: he went back and played. Here's the precedent. I'm going
- 58:37Speaker 3: to file precedent now, even though I played in the
- 58:39Speaker 3: NFL for multiple years, to go back and play.
- 58:42Speaker 2: I pray we don't get to that point.
- 58:44Speaker 3: I pray this Protect College Sports Act is passed by then,
- 58:46Speaker 3: and we have rules.
- 58:48Speaker 2: But to me, that would.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Be the only fear of all of this, is that
- 58:51Speaker 3: someone really tries to push the envelope and do something
- 58:54Speaker 3: like that.
- 58:56Speaker 2: Chet, coming up, QB1, named in Cleveland.
- 58:59Speaker 1: They get rid of a tight end, and they go
- 59:01Speaker 1: ahead and name their starting quarterback.
- 59:04Speaker 2: And it's one that the.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Well the fans don't like we don't blame them that's
- 59:09Speaker 1: next on hunting with row david crockett the king of
- 59:12Speaker 1: the wild frontier crockett coffee it's where you want to

- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Chad, I'm seeing a meme on social media where the
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: picture of Will Wade with his 2026-27 roster is just
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: a picture of blue chips.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: He's got Ricky Rowe signed up next. He's got the
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: gym bag full of cash. My favorite part of the whole,
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: I think the most underrated role of any 90s sports
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: movie was Matt Nover, who played Ricky Rowe in that movie.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Matt Nover, who played for.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Bobby Knight at Indiana, was not an actor, just a
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: former college basketball player. And his acting in that movie
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: was very dry. There's no charisma to it. But how
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: straight-laced he is and calm when he talks about the demands.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: He's like, so here's what I'm going to need. He's like, Coach,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: I really enjoy the program, and I think you're a
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: good guy, and I'm going to commit to you.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: He's like, oh, that's great. Coach, you're silver. He's like,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: so here's what I'm going to need.
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: My dad's going to need a tractor. I'm going to
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: need $ 25, 000 in cash. You can put it in one
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: of those gym bags over there. That's my favorite throwaway
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: line is he points to.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: A gym bag.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: He said, you can throw the money in one of
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: those gym bags over there for all I care.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Perfect. Matt Nover, all-time great performance in a sports movie. Chet,
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Deshaun Watson, QB1. this is not going to work out.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: He's going to be QB2 somewhere. It doesn't have to
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: be in Cleveland, but he's going to be booed everywhere.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: I mean. Guy didn't want to play.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: If you're Todd Munkin, he just bashed the fans and
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: said it's personal with the fans when they booed him.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: Yeah, said it's not going to work out for him there.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Like 17 road games is what he said. He was asked,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: you know, do you regret signing here? was a great
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: follow-up question from whatever reporter asked that. And he's like, oh, no,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: you know, I don't regret anything.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: Doesn't regret anything.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: That's exactly why he gets booed. This and that, you know.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Of course he regretted it. And then he comes back
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: the next day after being named the starter and has
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: to completely apologize and say, hey, I was emotional and,
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: You know, I've really just been working hard to get
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: back on the field and can't wait. And I've enjoyed
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: my time in Cleveland.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: I didn't see a quarterback that was emotional. I saw
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: a quarterback that was just downright honest. I mean, he's fixing,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: you mentioned it yesterday, he's fixing his $ 300, 000 diamond earring stud.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: And it's not like he's like, you know, trying to
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: hold back tears up there. He's just nonchalant, just telling
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: it like it is. I didn't see a quarterback that
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: was emotional.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: It's almost like Todd Munkin and the Browns called his bluff.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Because he's almost saying, just get me the hell out
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: of Cleveland.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: He's almost saying, make me the backup.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: The last place I want to be right now is
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: Northeast Ohio. I need to be done with this place
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: and be out of here.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: He's calling out the fans. It's personal with me. They
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: don't like me.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: I don't know what he's claiming on the personal part,
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: other than the stuff that he's done that.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Caused him to be in this situation.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: The personal part is whenever he tore his Achilles and
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: they cheered. He said it has nothing to do with
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: the play on the field whenever they're cheering me with McKinley's.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I'm like, they're cheering that and they're booing you because
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: of what happened off the field with your civil suits, dumbass.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: And that's what he's not ever really acknowledged. There's no
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: full accountability on this where you can really move forward
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: until Deshaun Watson just openly admits why people may not
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: like him in Cleveland and then move on. And look,
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: I mean, Cleveland Browns fans are so starved. If he
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: goes out and performs well, they will cheer you again. Like,
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: if you just admitted why they hated you in the
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: past and then you come back and you're good, people
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: love a great comeback story, and Browns fans will embrace
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: you if that's the goal. But it sounded to me
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: like a guy who was trying to get out of
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: Cleveland when he said all that.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: They also– well, it sounds like he just tries to
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: get out of– he's got his money.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Like, why does he want to play? I don't see
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: a guy that's very.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Motivated, although, like, I mean– He's acting more motivated than
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: what I thought he would, quite frankly. He hasn't played
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: great football since 2019, right? And on the flip side
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: of things, while you've got the Browns fans who are
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: going to cheer if the team does well, and look,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: as much as I hate saying that, we saw the
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans fans do that with Pac-Man Jones back in
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: the day whenever he's returning punts for touchdowns. So, yeah,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: fans are going to cheer when something good happens on
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: the field. They want that good to be.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: With Sanders.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: They want that good to be with Shador. They want
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: the underdog story to be Shador-Sanders, not with Deshaun Watson.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: And I don't blame them.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Well, and I think if you're Cleveland, first off, you
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: had already put– I forgot Deshaun Watson was in the NFL.
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: I mean, that's how long it's been. He's played in 28%
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: of his games. When he signed that five-year contract, He
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: has played in 28% of eligible games with that guaranteed
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: contract because of injury and suspension and everything else that's
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: gone on with it. So it's crazy to think about
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: how little Browns fans even got to know Deshaun Watson.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: But it's even crazier when you think that he's an afterthought.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: I wasn't thinking about Deshaun Watson coming into the season.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: Browns fans certainly weren't thinking about it. They were thinking
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: about Shador Sanders. You know, Dylan Gabriel or whoever else
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: was on their mind at the time.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: And who's going to be the starting quarterback. He's also
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: in the last year of that contract. So, look, if
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: you're Todd Munkin and you're saying, man, I think we've
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: got a good team that's a playoff caliber team. And
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: I think Deshaun Watson, because we've got a great defense,
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: can get us the playoffs.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: No one is looking at the Browns that way. No.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: They're looking at him like, can we please figure out
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: if Shador Sanders is a franchise quarterback first?
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: Let's use this year to figure that out. This is
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: a throwaway year. So now you're going to play Deshaun Watson.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Let's say Deshaun Watson plays great and now suddenly his
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: market value is higher. You've either raised the market for
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: him for another team or you're back in the situation
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: where you're saying, boy, we just surprised everyone and Deshaun
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Watson was really good.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Maybe we should pay him.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Browns fans don't want to be faced with that decision
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: after this year, after what they just went through with
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: that five-year guaranteed contract.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Their best player on offense is Jerry Judy. That's their
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: best offensive weapon.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: They traded away a Hall of Fame pass rusher this offseason.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: They have no hope there this year. They're over-under, though,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: in Vegas. I was noticing this on the Hard Rock
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Bet app. It was five and a half. Five and
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: a half for total wins. over-under wins.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Give me the under.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: It's like them and Miami are the two teams. Miami's
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: over-under three and a half. You're telling me the Browns
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: have a whopping two full more projected wins in the
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: division with the Ravens, Steelers.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: And Bengals? I'm taking the under.
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: We got breaking news here, Hutton, on the show. It's
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: coming from JT in the YouTube chat where you can
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: join us right now, too. at Hutton and Withrow on YouTube.
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: You can watch us there every day. You can interact
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: with the show in the chat.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: I'm shocked.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: Blaise Berlowitz has been named the starting quarterback at Vanderbilt
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: for the.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Start of the season. I'm stunned, too. He's the starting quarterback,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: not for long.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Not for long. Chad, we went through the gauntlet yesterday.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: The time to play Curtis was early in this schedule. Although,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: whenever we were there at practice, it was Berlowitz who
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: was getting the first team reps.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: He knows the offense. That's about it. Curtis does a
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: lot more than what Berlowitz does, but come on. This
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: is a strange one.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: They're paying a quarterback probably $ 2. 5 million a year. Remember
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: what I said about Underwood a year ago?
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: In Michigan, right?
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: And their freshman quarterback getting the job and immediately being
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: the starter because of what they were paying him. I
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: don't understand this in the least. I can't explain it
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: unless Blaise Berlowitz just truly gives it. This is kind
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: of like the Browns. I mean, no one is expecting
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: much from Vanderbilt this year other than Vanderbilt.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: And we were just there.
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: Clark Lee and those players, they're expecting a lot with
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: this team.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: They think they've got the most talented team they've had. So,
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Same with Todd Munkin, right?
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: The Deshaun Watson decision feels like one that if you've
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: got a playoff contender, you start the best guy no
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: matter what, don't worry about the future. That's why they're
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: going with Deshaun Watson, because he's better right now, even
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: if just by a little bit, than Shador Sanders, and
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: they're not worried about Shador Sanders' future. Starting Blaise Berlowitz,
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: to me, at Vandy, is a signifier. A, they think
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: they're better than the outsiders think, which I believe that
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: they believe that. I kind of believe that, too, because
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: they're going to go with a veteran guy they think
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: gives them the best shot to win right now. And
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: Jared Curtis is not that guy. I'm just stunned because
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: of the investment. And because of him not going to
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: Georgia and going to Vandy, my immediate thought was, they're
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: paying this guy to be the starter right away. And
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: he's going to end up being the starter right away, right?
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Well, and while we may see Berlowitz start, we're going
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: to see both quarterbacks in that first game.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: It's Austin Peay, correct? I think it's Austin Peay and
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: then Delaware. Am I getting those games correct? Then NC State.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Austin Peay, Delaware. NC State. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: JT is also saying Pete Thamel reporting Berlowitz quarterback one.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: Five-star true freshman Jared Curtis will also play in the game,
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: marking his first career snaps against Austin Peay.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Yeah, of course. He would have played no matter.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: What because it's going to be a blowout. You don't
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: need a source. I'm sorry, but Pete Thamel, I don't
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: need a source to report that.
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: Hey, I'm going to go ahead and give you another
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: big bit of breaking news.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: We do.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: George McIntyre will play against Furman also. Hold on. Yeah,
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: my sources just came through. It wasn't Pete Thamel, but
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: I can report. that we will see George McIntyre at
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: some point against Furman also for Tennessee.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: And I'm here to tell you we're going to see
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: both quarterbacks for Vandy in week two as well.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: You think this is sort of an audition that I'm
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: just surprised that Berlowitz, like if it's going to be
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: a two-man audition to lead up to that NC State
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: game in the third game of the season, which is
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: their first test of the year, that it's not Curtis
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: giving the job.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: I think Berlowitz is the starter, Chad. I'm not saying
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: that he's not because I don't know why you announce
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: it right now. I'm simply saying Berlowitz has a penchant
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: for turning the football over.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Maybe..
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Curtis was turning the football over as well. I stayed
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: for the final two periods of that practice just to
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: watch the 11-on-11. He turned the ball over back-to-back times
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: on quick out route passes, pick sixes in that practice.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: So while..
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: Jared Curtis gives you a dynamic arm. He can do
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: things with the flick of the wrist that I didn't
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: see from Berlowitz in that practice. Berlowitz, with the veteran mindset,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: with the upperclassman experience, if he can just hang on
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: to the football, not make the dumb mistake, keep you
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: out of the bad play, that's a win for Vandy that's.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Going to allow the run game anyway.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Do you remember what Clark Lee told us when we
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: interviewed him at Vanderbilt that day? He said, we want
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: to be the anti-entitlement program.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Of college football.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: I can't think of a better way of sending the
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: signal out that you're the anti-entitlement program than not starting
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: the five-star freshman, number one-ranked quarterback, biggest recruit ever to
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: come into Vanderbilt football on day one if you feel
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: like the older guy gives you a better shot. That
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: is a good signal to everyone on your roster that
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: this is going to be an anti-entitlement program, that no
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: one has given anything here until they've earned it. So
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: I think from that standpoint, it makes it easy for
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: Clark Lee– to sell that. I know Catfish Jake and
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: others immediately laugh that it's going to be a tough
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: sell for Vanderbilt University to be the anti-entitlement program, given
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: how expensive it is to go to that school and
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: given most of the students at the school, which is
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: funny and I get it, but I also see this
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: move and I'm thinking it's a pretty good.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Sign that they are going to be the anti-entitlement program.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Well, and also it's much easier to go to Curtis
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: than it is to go away from Curtis and go
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: to Berlowitz and then back to Curtis. if you're going
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: to do this, right? Like, Austin Peay, Delaware, NC State.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: NC State, Vanderbilt hosts that game September 19th. After that game,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: after those first three games, then you have a gauntlet
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: with Auburn, Georgia, and Ole Miss back-to-back-to-back. You'd rather have
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: an upperclassman running the offense, especially if you can get
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: a ground attack going, than you would a true freshman
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: who's still trying to learn his way and trying to
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: figure out where classes are.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: Ha ha ha! And at Vanderbilt, we were told they
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: have to go to class.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: They don't have online classes as much, so they actually
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: physically go to class.
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: So that is a thing, finding those buildings. I'm surprised, though.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: I'm with you. I'm shocked.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I expected this to be Jared Curtis' offense, and it
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: still could be. It's just not going to be right
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: out of the gate. They're not turning things over to
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: him solely, and it's easier to play both quarterbacks, Chad.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: if you've got the fifth-year senior. Fifth-year senior, I believe, right?
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a veteran guy.
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: I mean, he's been around Tim Beck and that offensive
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: staff for a long time. I mean, his knowledge of
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: what they're trying to do has got to be off
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: the charts better than Jared Curtis. But, I mean, again,
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: this is not the way the current business of college
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: football works, right? I mean, that's what surprises me so
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: much is, And this is not disparaging to Vandy.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: No, this is different.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: My assumption for anyone would have been you got the
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: number one quarterback in the country to not go to
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: Georgia where he was committed before.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: My thought is you're doing that.
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: Also if you're him because, hey, there's an opportunity to
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: start right away. I'm not going to start with Gunnar
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: Stockton at Georgia. But there's a chance for me to
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: start at Vandy right away with Diego Pavia leaving. And
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: you start the clock immediately, and you've got three years
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: with a great quarterback.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: Right. But to not be the name to start, this
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: throws a curveball in that whole plan to me.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: Well, and look, there have been two scrimmages since we
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: last saw them practice. So, look, Clark Lee says what
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: he means.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: It means what he says. We know that.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: I'll point back to Bryce Underwood as the example at Michigan.
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: They were paying him to be the starter. With the
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: money they allocated to him, the number one quarterback in
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: the country. I think LSU was one of the ones
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: he was looking at to.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Not go to LSU.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: They invested so much that, hey, we believe in this
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: guy and his talent. We're going to take our lumps
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: maybe early, but he's going to be the starter. In Tennessee,
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: you don't have to look further than in-state. Faison Brandon,
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: he was right there, one or two, right behind Jared
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: Curtis as one of the top quarterbacks in that class
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: as a five-star guy. Tennessee, they're Josh Heupel has no
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: problem rolling the dice and starting the true freshman because
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: he's shown more. Now, what we don't know, Hutton, and
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: what you're talking about, even watching practice, is to me
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: that says that knowing Clark Lee and how honest he
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: is with his team and what he's doing, Jared Curtis
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: didn't show more. He knows how to get the respect
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: of his team, right? Blaise Burwell showed more.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: Well, again, I would just go back to Jared Curtis
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: showed me a lot in that one practice, but he
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: also turned the football over quite often.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, like, he's got an explosive arm.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: He's got the ability to really take the top off
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: of defense and actually give you a passing game downfield, vertical.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: But is Berlowitz going to protect the football? Because, you know,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: as long as he does that, he's doing a little
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: bit more than what the true freshman's doing right now,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: just by keeping possession. And, again, it's no easy task.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: You have two weeks to get everything up and running,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: and then you face NC State. And then all of
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: a sudden, the SEC gauntlet for every team faces Auburn, Georgia,
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Ole Miss. That's no easy three-pack for the month of
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: September for a true freshman quarterback.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: And if you're.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: Trying to win over your locker room and make sure
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: that they know you're about the right things and doing
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: what's right for them.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Right. Those guys aren't dumb, especially at Vandy. They see it.
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: They know who the leader is. Think about that.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: They often know who's putting more work. When I'm reading
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: every story about Faison Branding winning the job at Tennessee,
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: the most things I hear is, hey, the guy didn't
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: leave for vacation when George McIntyre did, when everyone else
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: on campus left.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: He stayed.
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: And he was running routes with receivers, or he was
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: in the facility every day. He truly committed to it,
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: and guys noticed that, and guys saw it. That's part
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: of this, too. I'm not saying that Jared Curtis is
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: dogging it, but I'm saying clearly Clark Lee believes Berlowitz
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: has put in a little bit more and shown a
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: little bit more to be the starter, or he wouldn't
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: have gone that direction.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Well, and think about it. You're not transferring now. You
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: can transfer at the end of this season. We're going
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: to see the starter. The starter right now is not
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: going to be the starter at the end of the year.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: I agree with that. Okay.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: The starter right now is not going to be the
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: starter at the end of the year. But what I
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: do know is Auburn's defense was not the problem with
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Auburn last year. Georgia's defense, always amongst the best in
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: the country. Ole Miss's defense, we know what Pete Golding
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: does with his defense at Ole Miss. Those are the
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: first three SEC defenses out of the chute for Vanderbilt's team.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: And if you've got an upperclassman who knows the offense
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: that can get you through to where you can feel
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: your freshman quarterback feel settled, feel like he's got a
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: base underneath him, can run the offense and keep you
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: out of a bad play, where your offensive linemen, they
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: don't have to call the protection all of a sudden.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: That's what Berlowitz allows them to do. They get to
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: run more of the base offense than what the freshman
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: would because it doesn't condense you down to whatever the
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: one young quarterback's doing well. You don't have to protect
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: the young quarterback as much. he's going to be a starter.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: He's just not right now. And we're going to see
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: him play. Hey, breaking news, Chad, we're going to see
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: him play first two weeks.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Oh, you mean against Austin Peay? Yeah. That they might
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: play multiple quarterbacks in that game? Yeah, they might. Okay,
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: that's good. They just might. Thank you, Pete Thamel.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: I can see Pete Thamel behind those very bookish glasses
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: that he wears all the time, typing.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: Out that tweet on his his laptop. Oh, there we go.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: I know this. Boy, do I have a scoop for
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: thee today.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: Two quarterbacks will play against FCS Austin Peay in week one.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Let's discuss the two true freshman quarterbacks, though, that we
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: will see in the state of Tennessee. One is going
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: to start for the University of Tennessee. One, well, starts
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: by coming off the bench. That's next year on Hunting
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: With Row. Born in state, founded.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: By Clay Travis, XXXY Athletics, founded by Jennifer Say, former
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She walked away
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: from a corporate job rather than saying something that she
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: didn't believe and started XXXY Athletics instead. Their mission and
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: their words empower female athletes, take a stand for fair competition,
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: And they call it the tee that launched a movement. Chad,
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: this is real athletic apparel, including the official gear for
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: Clay Travis' expansion WNBA franchise, the Nashville Balls. Oh, yes.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Official Nashville Balls merch right now up on the site. Tees,
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: trucker hats, they're out now if you want them. If
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: you want the shirt, that's where you get it for
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: those Nashville Balls. New customers get 20% off your first
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: order when you sign up and free shipping over $ 100.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: That's xxxyathletics.com. That's xx-xyathletics.com. I saw where Reese set two
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: WNBA rebounding records.
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: I mean, 26 rebounds in a game. And I couldn't
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: help but think, how many of those were her own mislayups?
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: That was my first thought. I need to go back
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: and grind some tape on that. Who does she play
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: for now?
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: Atlanta? She was with the Chicago Sky. I think she's
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: the Atlanta Dream now. Is that a team? We'll get
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: confirmations from you guys back there. I think it's the
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: Atlanta Dream. I need to look for it.
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: Did I dream that one up? Did I dream that
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: Atlanta had a WNBA franchise? She does play for Atlanta.
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: She does play for Atlanta.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: Is it the Atlanta Dream also? Is that the name?
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Am I making that up? Her record-breaking rebound set up
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: a three-point shot. There you go.
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: A record-breaking rebound off her second missed layup tip-in attempt
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: that was then kicked back out for a three.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: They missed that spot on it, too. Hey, good for her.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: Setting records.
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: Kaitlyn Clark set the record for, what, 30-plus point, 10-plus
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: or 8-plus assist game by far. She's had more than
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: the entire WNBA combined, apparently, over her time.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: And now Angel Reese setting that rebounding record. Her quote,
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: last time I was here, I didn't miss any shots tonight.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: I couldn't hit bleep. So I knew I was going
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: to be able to get them on the rebounding side.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: I just want to be consistent for my team, offensively, defensively,
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: whatever it takes to win. She's definitely consistent on the boards.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: So selfless.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: So selfless that Angel Reese. That's the first word that
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: comes to mind when I think about Angel Reese in
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: her game, Hutton, selfless.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Now she scored 31 points. She scored 31 points in
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: the previous game, to her credit.
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: You know what I know about that rebounding record, Hutton,
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: more than anything else with Angel Reese?
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: You ready for this? I'm ready. Enos Freedom Cantor would
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: destroy that rebounding mark.
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: If the WNBA were as inclusive as they said, and
- 1:22:00Speaker 3: they allowed Enos Cantor freedom in the league, I'm going
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: to go ahead and put.
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: All the money in the world. Mrs. Freedom Cantor.
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: Into my hard rock bet app, I would put all
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: the money I have. If there is a prop on
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: shattering the WNBA rebounding record, I'm going to say that
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: Enos Freedom Cantor at seven foot with The wingspan of
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: a Boeing jet would break that rebounding record in the WNBA.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: The Boeing jet's a great way to look at it.
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: Whenever he stuck his arms out, you know, like, whenever
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: he did that, like, looking at the player who went
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: after him or whatever, I'm thinking, man, can you imagine
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: this in the WNBA? It's about to happen. It would
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: be tough. It would be tough. If you thought my
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: one trip to the girls' end of the basketball court
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: in high school was rough for those Mount Juliet girls...
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: Enos Freedom Cantor's got something for you at seven foot.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: It would be bad for them. Chad, I love the
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: Anchorman poster behind you, by the way. Thank you. Thank you. Yes,
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: I've got.
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: Kind of a rotating list of older movies. You know
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: what's crazy about Anchorman? I think it's 2005 maybe or 2004.
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: It's over 20 years old, this movie. So it's actually
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: kind of a classic movie now, which makes me feel old.
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: But I've got some other ones coming your way that
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: will rotate through the studio here.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Jared Curtis, not the starter for the Vanderbilt Commodores, but
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: Faison Brandon is. Chad, what's been the reaction amongst your circles,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: Tennessee fan base, knowing that Brandon, the true freshman, is
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: going to be the quarterback for the Vols?
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Joy.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: That's been the reaction about Faison Brandon. Pure, unadulterated joy.
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: Everyone's getting a big orange boner in my circles right
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: now about Faison Brandon.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: Fun fact for you.
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: So Jared Curtis is not the starter at Vanderbilt, okay?
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: Faison Brandon is the starter at Tennessee. Did you know, Hutton,
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: Jared Curtis will turn 20 years old in December while
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: the college football season is still going?
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: Faison Brandon just turned 18 in June. He's been 18
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: for about two months, and he's a starting quarterback. I'm thinking,
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: how is this possible? Like, I know people hold athletes back.
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: So that for athletic purposes in their class, like an example,
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: my daughter is a May birthday.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: She is going to be one of the youngest ones
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: in her graduating class. I was always the youngest too.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: I was a May birthday. See, I was February. So
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: I was sort of right in the middle, a little
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: bit on the younger side. I didn't drive. I didn't
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: drive in park for high school until senior year. Yeah. Okay.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: So my, yeah. Into my junior year. Right. Yeah.
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: Into my junior, into my sophomore year, I guess I was,
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: I was driving. But so my daughter is going to
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: be young. She'll be basically, she'll turn 18 right at
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: graduation of her senior year. Won't turn 18 until then.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: My youngest daughter is an August birthday and she'll be
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: one of the oldest. So she started later. So she
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: started at six years old in kindergarten. She just turned seven.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: Now at the start of the school year, she's in
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: first grade, right? So there's a difference there athletically for people.
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: I don't know Jared Curtis's situation. I'm assuming he was
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: held back for athletic reasons. But to be a 20-year-old
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: freshman is nuts to me. And again, the biggest shock
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: of the day to us is he's not the starting
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: quarterback to start the season. I thought that was a
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: foregone conclusion. But going back to Faison Brandon Hutton, look,
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: I think Tennessee fans are great. We trust Josh Eifel
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: to make the decision on that. If he's going to
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: start an 18-year-old freshman, he's got pretty good success with
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: young quarterbacks. He's got pretty good success with all the
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: quarterbacks that.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: Start for him so far.
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: So they can kind of put the trust in him
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: of what he's seen and what he wants at that position.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: The other immediate response was, so where's George McIntyre going
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: to play next year? Where is he transferring? What SEC
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: team is he going to start for? Or will he
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: get out of the conference? To me, that's always the
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: hope now. You've got two five-star quarterbacks, which Tennessee does,
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: with Brandon and McIntyre. Now the other guy is going
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: to play somewhere else. The only hope is it doesn't
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: come back to bite you, that he doesn't transfer in
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: conference to a rival or someone you're going to play.
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: Like go to the Big 12 or go to the
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: ACC and never have to play that guy again. That's
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: the hope.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Or how quickly we forget, Chad. Normally, in some cases,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: and correct me if I'm wrong, this has happened at
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: least twice. The second choice for Heupel has been the
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: correct choice.
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Right?
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Something has happened to the initial option that has then
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: led to a better result.
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: I was reading through the history of Josh Heupel quarterback
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: decisions and when he makes them.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: It's pretty interesting.
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: First off, first true freshman starter in Knoxville since Brent
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: Schaefer in 2004. That year, Eric Ainge won the job
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: the next week against Florida. That's the James Wilhoyt made
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: the kick to end the game, beat Florida at home.
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: Tennessee goes on that year. The last time they started
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: a true freshman quarterback, 22 years ago, they won the
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: SEC East. They played that great Tommy Tuberville-led Auburn team
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: that was undefeated and lost in the SEC championship game
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: in a really good game that actually I was at
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: in Atlanta. So that's pretty good history with Tennessee starting
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: a true freshman quarterback.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: Sure. From the past.
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: Josh Heupel, the one decision we could question Hutton was 2021,
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: his first year, he chose Joe Milton over Hendon Hooker.
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: Joe Milton gets hurt, I think, in the Pitt game
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: where he overthrew like five wide-open receivers in the first half.
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: If you remember, they could have won that game. Kenny
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: Pickett in Pitt played in Knoxville in that game. Tennessee
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: should have won, but I think it lost by 10 points.
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: Hendon Hooker comes in. They light up the scoreboard the
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: rest of the year.
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: 2022 happens. Amazing year. We were at the Bama game.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: They wanted home.
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: The rest is history. It looks like Heupel made the
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: wrong decision that year. Now, Milton comes back in 2023.
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: Credit Joe Milton for not leaving and staying with it.
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: Had a good year statistically in 2023. That guy's throwing
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: 85-yard passes in practice for Dallas. He's probably going to
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: be good in the NFL for a while as a
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: backup and never a starter, so good for Joe Milton.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: That's the one decision I could question with a quarterback.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Nico, I mean, he was the right guy to start.
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: that year. They go to the playoff.
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: He was going to get better, you would think, in
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: that system and be the right guy the next year.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: Then he leaves, and then Joey Aguilar comes in. But Hutton,
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: in that 2021 year that we were talking about, we
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: were at that Bowling Green game with our previous employer
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: on that Thursday night. Heupel didn't name the starter until
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: Monday of that week. He named Joe. That's how he was.
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: He did not know. It was that close between him
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: and Hooker, and he went back and forth and didn't
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: name a starter until Monday.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: This is two weeks out.
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: He's naming Faison Brandon, which tells me Faison Brandon is
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: more clearly the guy than George McIntyre based on what
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: they've seen in practice.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: And also, there were two things that come to mind
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: for that, because number one, Hinton Hooker was known as
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: not being a very good practice player at all.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Milton is. Milton's a very good– he can wow you.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: Which, by the way, Josh Dobbs is the same way.
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: That was a knock on him with Bush. He's not
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: great in practice. They put him out in that Alabama game,
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: and he runs for 115 yards or whatever. He looks
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: pretty good in the game, so let's keep playing this
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: guy in the games, right?
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: Yeah. You're right. That was the knock on Hooker.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Now, and then the other thing, too, was that was
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: year number one of paying players with NIL.
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: And I remember going down with something with Spire Sports
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: and Joe Milton was there. This is right at the
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: very beginning of unleashing the floodgates.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: And Hendon Hooker was not. Hendon Hooker was not there.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: But Joe Milton was there because they had a member
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: of like the baseball team, volleyball, all these.
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: And then there's Joe Milton.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: And I just remember because I was emceeing, I was
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: just asking because we were all trying to learn what
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: was going on here. What's Spire Sports, right? And I
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: remember asking Joe Milton, like, so what brought you to Tennessee?
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: And he was just like, they offer the most money.
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: That was his answer.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: And I was like, I can't believe that we just
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: have a quarterback that just admitted this. But my point is,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: he also was getting paid, to your point, with what
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: we're seeing with Jared Curtis not being the starter. Joe
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: Milton was paid to come from Michigan to Tennessee to
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: be the starter. And so he was the starter.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: And I think you get more into that with transfers
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: that come in. Oh yeah, I agree with that. Yeah,
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: that makes a lot more sense.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: But I would also say that's why I'm more surprised
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: about Jared Curtis. Because you're right, Milton was probably paid
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: to come from Michigan. He had plenty of options, and
- 1:30:40Speaker 3: he was going to be the starter. And I was like, yeah,
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: this guy can be my starter. The tie went to him,
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: even if Hooker was just as good or right around there.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: They went with that guy.
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: That's why I'm so surprised that it's not Jared Curtis,
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: because I think the assumption is, and it's not just
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: a Vandy thing. It's you got the five-star quarterback to
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: replace Diego Pavia, who was leaving. There was no clear
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: starter coming back. You'd feel like he's going to be
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: the starter.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: Now, for George McIntyre, and I.
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: Hope any NIL agent or any representative out there would
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: advise their client the same way, your job now, if
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: you're McIntyre for this year, is to be a great teammate,
- 1:31:18Speaker 3: to show up, to have the best possible reps on
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: the second team, to reset– your mind a little bit.
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: You're not competing for the starting job right now. But
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: you are going to play. Faison Brandon's a freshman. He's
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: going to get hit. He's going to get hurt at
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: some point probably. You're going to play early in the
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: season in some of these throwaway games against Furman or
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: Kennesaw State.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: Our sources report.
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: And not to pitch it in, right? Because the human emotion,
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: the human nature, Hutton, would be, screw these guys.
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: They don't believe in me. I'm gone.
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: I'm going to go be NC State starter next year
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: or wherever. You're calling up your NIL agent. Hey, get
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: on the phone with coaches.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: Who wants me?
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: And you want to mentally check out and be gone
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: from your current place the moment you lose the job.
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: McIntyre's best thing he can do.
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: Again, if you're thinking future, you need to be thinking
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: long term. It's I need to show that I can
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: be a great teammate. I can get good reps in.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: I can be solid.
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: When I get in the games because I'm going to
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: get in the games this year for Tennessee. Put that
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: on tape.
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: And then in a year when it's clear phase on
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: Brandon's still going to be the starter, then go. then
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: go somewhere else where you can be the starter at
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: that time. But do not be a distraction.
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: Do not do any of that.
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: I fear there's too many NIL guys out there and
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: gals that would just give in to the emotion of
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: their young player and say, you're right, George. They screwed
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: you over. We're going to find you a home immediately.
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: Screw those coaches. Don't show up to this. That's the
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: worst thing to do right now. The best thing to
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: do is to be a pro because you are because
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: you're still getting paid. Show up every day and do
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: the job and congratulate Faison Brandon and be the best
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: backup quarterback you can be.
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: And then guess what? There's no long-term contracts in college football,
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: so you can bolt the moment the season ends and
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: go somewhere else. I'm saying that at 42, and he's
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: saying that at 19 or 20. And it's hard.
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: The moment you feel like someone doesn't believe in you,
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: it's hard to keep showing up and doing the job.
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: I completely empathize with that for George McIntyre or anyone,
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: but you have got to be angry for a little bit,
- 1:33:19Speaker 3: and you've got to sleep on it, and you've got
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: to show up and just congratulate them and keep going.
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: It's not the worst thing in the world to be
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: the backup to a true freshman quarterback when you want
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: to play football. Because at some point, you're probably going
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: to get a chance to play.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: And it's not like he's not getting paid. He's also
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: getting paid. Absolutely. He's also getting paid.
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: Stay tuned. More coming here on Huntin' Withrow. Huntin' Withrow
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet. This from Pete Thamel. According
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: to sources, the Big Ten set to pass a rule
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: today that doesn't allow players to return from the NFL
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: and play for the Big Ten. Anyone who has declared
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: for the NFL draft and did not withdraw, appeared on
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: an NFL roster, or signed a contract with a pro
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: league cannot be on a Big Ten roster. Chad, the
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: first three responses, just by scanning this real quick, the
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: first three responses won't surprise you from fans who have
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: seen this report. Here we go with the moral victories.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Don't be surprised when the SEC wrecks the Big Ten
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: this year. Big Ten conference officials love hurting themselves. If
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: the SEC doesn't make this a rule, then why would you?
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: And this is a great move. Will it stand up
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: legally is the third response.
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: Three great responses.
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: One, the Big Ten is going to win the court
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: of public opinion today. I think for media members and
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: everyone else, we're showing a spine and everyone agreeing this
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: isn't great for college sports and them actually saying, yeah,
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: it's not going to be allowed in this conference.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: They're going to win that.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: Two, I think Ohio State fans are probably pissed because
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: I think it's probably, if you went back, you'd probably
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: see a Buckeye somewhere in that response from the person
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: that's like, oh, once again, moral victories and Because Ohio
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: State behaves like an SEC program. Michigan will behave like
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: an SEC program. And I mean that in the best
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: and worst possible ways with their fan bases and how
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: they're going to go about doing whatever they can to
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: gain a possible advantage. I mean, we don't have to
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: go into the Jim Harbaugh and Connor Stallion situation. We
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: know about what they'll do to win at those programs.
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: So Ryan Day even said it. If they're going to
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: go somewhere else and not Ohio State, I got to
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: look into it. If they're allowed to go play anywhere else,
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: we're going to look into this. And now he's being
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: told By his conference.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Oh, no, you won't.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: Ohio State fans are going to be pissed off about that. Three,
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: if someone were to file an injunction in one of
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: those states and say it's unlawful for them, is the
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: Big Ten rule going to stand up? I don't know, Hutton,
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: because any court could also come back and say, hey, man,
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: you can go to Ole Miss and play if you want.
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: They don't have a rule. You can go to this
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: school and play.
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: No one's saying you can't go make money and go
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: back to college because of the court order. We're saying
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: that the Big Ten is allowed to have their own rules,
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: and this is their rule.
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: You just can't go to a Big Ten school.
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: So I don't know legally how that would be adjudicated
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: or how that was going to stand up or not.
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: But again, hey, credit Tony Petitti and the Big Ten.
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: For showing a spine on this where Greg Sankey just
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: issued a statement Saying, we don't like it, so let's
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: get Congress to stop it. And that's essentially what he said.
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: We have no power here. We can't do anything. It's
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: why we continue to say the Protect College Sports Act
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: should be passed. And it's not been passed yet. So
- 1:36:32Speaker 3: we're waiting on, is Congress in a, are they on
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: vacation right now? Is this their break before they vote again?
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: Listen to Clay and Buck later. for info on the
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: Congress and what's going on and if they're in recess
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: or not, because you're sure as hell not going to
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: get that info from me because I have no freaking clue. No,
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: I have no clue either.
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: I don't know what they do. I don't know when
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: they work. I don't know what they stand for. I
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: don't know if this thing's ever going to get passed.
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: Don't ask me. Ask Clay and Buck.
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: Speaking of Clay and Buck. Ask them about that mushroom
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: blend coffee too with Crockett.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Yeah, might as well. Coming up, we have Next Round Live, LT,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: Ryan Brown, Jim Dunaway. They're coming your way in just
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: a handful of minutes, six minutes or so. Looking forward
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: to their show. Chad mentioned Clay and Buck, Clay and
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: Buck Show. You can watch it live at sportandstate.com each
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: and every morning. That's followed by the Clay Travis Show.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: And then we have On Tilt with Kelly, Ariel, and Joe.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: The full network of shows here. And we're just getting
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: started with that, Chad. That won't be the final show.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: We haven't listed all shows is what I'm saying.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: Not the final show. Not the last show for sure.
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: There will be more. But not a bad start when
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: you can go from 8 to 5 p.m. Eastern time
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: every day with wall-to-wall shows here at the Sporting State Network.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: It's been a great start. It's been a great launch.
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: Appreciate everybody who's been tagging along in the YouTube chat. Again,
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: that's where you can watch us live every morning. Clay's
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: talked about it. We've talked about it. It is very
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: important to have a live element to the show. We're
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: going to bring you a live show every single weekday morning.
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: All of our other shows are live. Doesn't mean you
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: can't go back and watch on YouTube.
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: Doesn't mean you can't go back and listen on podcast.
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: Doesn't mean you can't go and enjoy our clips that
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: we're going to post across social media. You can follow
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: us at Hutton and Withrow. You can follow us on
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: our personal accounts for all those as well. However, you
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: can consume the show. Please consume it. When you go
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: to Japan, Hutton, they have rules about how you eat
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: in Japan. like you take your shoes off when you
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: enter the room you know.
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: A lot of times you sit on the floor cross
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: your legs.
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: Different things there's a lot of fine rules about when
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: someone's hosting you the different rules of the host and
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: everything about how you consume the food.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: When is the last time we're the opposite.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: You could you could eat with your toes if we're
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: hosting a party we don't care We don't care how
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: you consume our content as long as you are.
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: Consuming it one way or the other. We don't have
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: all the Japanese rules for eating in the home. You
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: can do whatever you want.
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: If you're completely nude right now watching this show, if
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: you are eating something with your toes while listening to
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: the show or watching it, I don't care.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: Do whatever you want. That's the beauty of the show.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: At my place, while you don't have to take your
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: shoes off when you walk around, you do need to
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: eat with your– you need to hold utensils with your
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: fingers when you eat.
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: No toes. No toes allowed. Yes.
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: The Chat Owl on YouTube says, going to be a
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: hard pass on Clay and Buck. Sports Clay is great.
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: Politics Clay is not great. Someone else said, I'm a
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: Buck hater. Can't stand him. Here's the beauty of this
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: at Sport and State. We stand for freedom.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: All right. We stand for freedom. We just talked about
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: Crockett Coffee earlier, Hunton. You know what the beauty of
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: Crockett Coffee is? Right here in the damn coffee. We
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: stand on the backs of crocodiles. It says you can
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: cancel whenever you want as the free market intended. So
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: guess what? If you don't want to listen to Congress
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: with Clay and Buck, you don't have to or watch it.
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: If you don't want to watch our.
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: Show, you don't have to. We think you'd be stupid
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: not to. And again, you can consume it however you want.
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: So Free country, we celebrate freedom here at Sporting State.
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: So I will gladly tell Chad Al or whoever else
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: wants to respond on this, do whatever the hell you please.
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: Whatever you want. Great. Hey, by the way, if you
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: like Sports Clay, guess what? We got a show for you.
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: It's 2 o'clock Central Time every day on the Sporting
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: State Network. It's the Clay Travis Show. It's incredible. Man.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: Chad, what are you watching nowadays? You always got some
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: great recommendation for me.
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: I am watching a show called The Shards. It's on
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: Hulu and Disney. I watched on Disney +. It's confusing
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: because Hulu and Disney are the same service. So I
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: watched through Disney +. But The Shards is a series
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: based on a Bret Easton Ellis novel. It is sort
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: of a fictional autobiography of him in high school at
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: a rich prep LA school in 1981 Los Angeles. And
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: there is a serial killer on the loose. That's killing
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: young people, and that's the backdrop of it. So Brett
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: Easton Ellis is the author of American Psycho. That was
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: the movie with Christian Bale. That's based on the novel
- 1:41:14Speaker 3: by him. Rules of Attraction, if you remember the movie
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: with James Van Der Beek and Jessica Biel back in
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: the day, that's a Brett Easton Ellis novel. I love
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: Brett Easton Ellis as an author, and this show is crazy.
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: But it's also meant to be one miniseries based on
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: this novel, but apparently the creator, Ryan Murphy, has taken it.
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: And now it's going to be an ongoing series. So
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: Brett Easton Ellis wrote the first three episodes. And then
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: the show creator took off from there. And now it's
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: going to be an ongoing series with Hulu. I recommend it.
- 1:41:45Speaker 3: I'm into all things 80s. I just love that era
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: and love the music. And I love rich people in
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: the early 80s. So it's pretty exciting times to be
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: watching a television show.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: That's one.
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: And Lioness Season 3. Can't give that high enough marks.
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: Definitely check the first two seasons out. But season three
