Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to Money and Wealth with John O'Bryant, a production
- 0:03Speaker 1: of the Black Effect Podcast Network and iHeartRadio.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Here in the United States and around the world.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to my next episode, and thank you for making
- 0:21Speaker 1: this one of the most popular entrepreneurship and business podcasts
- 0:26Speaker 1: in the country and by extension, around the world as well. Okay,
- 0:30Speaker 1: let's get into this week's topic. This is a powerful
- 0:35Speaker 1: topic about mindset that's going to connect with money. A part,
- 0:41Speaker 1: a large part of getting you into the right zone
- 0:45Speaker 1: so that you can score is getting you out of
- 0:49Speaker 1: the wrong lane so you don't end up in a ditch.
- 0:51Speaker 1: So I want to first start by talking about why
- 0:59Speaker 1: I talk about certain things in my speeches and my
- 1:03Speaker 1: straight talk live videos on social media, the short clips
- 1:09Speaker 1: Why talk about certain things?
- 1:11Speaker 2: An interview to.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Bluntly dispel myths that I believe are hurtful to you
- 1:19Speaker 1: and those you love. And our community broadly define our community,
- 1:25Speaker 1: our family, broadly define the human family, our specific families
- 1:30Speaker 1: that keeps you from winning.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I want you to knock it off.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I want you to stop doing things that are dead
- 1:36Speaker 1: ends and to start doing things that are bridges, that
- 1:40Speaker 1: are highways, that are byways, that are free ways that
- 1:43Speaker 1: are on ramps to your prosperity. And so that just
- 1:48Speaker 1: sometimes means dealing with blunt truths. And when I say
- 1:54Speaker 1: don't hang around with broke people, I'm not talking about money.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I've been broke, right. I have been in places. I
- 2:04Speaker 1: mean I was homeless, right. My mom and dad did
- 2:08Speaker 1: not have money. Many times they divorced over money. They
- 2:14Speaker 1: were broke, but they wasn't They weren't poor, right. There's
- 2:17Speaker 1: a differ difference between being broke and being poor. Being
- 2:20Speaker 1: broke is economic, but being poor is a disabling frame
- 2:23Speaker 1: of mind, a depressed condition of your spirit. You must
- 2:27Speaker 1: vow never ever, ever to be poor again. I'm trying
- 2:29Speaker 1: to get you out of a poverty mindset. I'm trying
- 2:32Speaker 1: to get you from hanging around people who are broken
- 2:34Speaker 1: in spirit because they see the glass of life as
- 2:38Speaker 1: half empty, and you need to see it as half full.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Because whether you believe you can or whether you believe
- 2:43Speaker 1: you can't, you're absolutely right. Mindset matters. In fact, here's
- 2:48Speaker 1: another egg. I'm going to break all forms of poverty
- 2:57Speaker 1: other than what I call all sustenance poverty. Roof over
- 3:02Speaker 1: your head, food on the table, and reasonable health care,
- 3:07Speaker 1: which I believe almost should be just human rights, things
- 3:10Speaker 1: that everybody should make sure are provided to them by society,
- 3:15Speaker 1: by our governments, by our infrastructure.
- 3:18Speaker 2: All other forms of poverty beyond that our mindset, assuming
- 3:24Speaker 2: that you're capable and able bodied.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Of course, if you are disabled, you have a handicap here,
- 3:30Speaker 1: you have some limitation, then that's a different situation than family, society, others, love, friends,
- 3:36Speaker 1: loved ones have a responsibility to help you if you
- 3:39Speaker 1: cannot help yourself. But we're talking here about presumably able body,
- 3:44Speaker 1: self directed individuals. So all forms of poverty other than
- 3:49Speaker 1: sustenance poverty, roof over your head, reasonable health care, food
- 3:51Speaker 1: on the table, etc.
- 3:53Speaker 2: All other forms of poverty or mindset.
- 3:56Speaker 1: That's why I have said, if you give a homeless man,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and I've been homeless, by the way, I was economically
- 4:02Speaker 1: homeless when I was around eighteen years of age, if
- 4:05Speaker 1: you give a homeless man or woman a million dollars
- 4:07Speaker 1: and do nothing else, change nothing else, they'll be broken
- 4:11Speaker 1: six months. It sounds controversial, it sounds I guess crew,
- 4:14Speaker 1: it's not crew. It's me just saying this is a desk.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I'm just talking about a material fact that your your arms,
- 4:23Speaker 1: your legs, your movements, your decisions are gonna follow your mindset. Okay,
- 4:29Speaker 1: somebody says I'm gonna break another egg here. Well, John,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I stop talking about all this capitalism stuff. Just give
- 4:34Speaker 1: me the money. I have two things to say about that.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'm talking to me about capitalism, free enterprise, self determination.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Just give me the money. John, All right, let's try
- 4:43Speaker 1: that number one. Take all the wealth in the world,
- 4:45Speaker 1: mine and others that's been hard work for and develop
- 4:50Speaker 1: through mindset and you know, hard work and industry and achievement.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Let's take all the wealth in the world and all
- 5:01Speaker 1: the wealth creation in the world and just give it
- 5:04Speaker 1: away to everybody. Distribute to everybody in the world equally,
- 5:09Speaker 1: and what will happen in three to five years the
- 5:12Speaker 1: wealth builders will have it back. Because if nothing changes
- 5:16Speaker 1: here in your mind, nothing's going to change here in
- 5:18Speaker 1: your heart and your soul, nothing going to change here
- 5:21Speaker 1: in your hands, your feet, and ultimately in your pockets.
- 5:24Speaker 1: That even if you want to distribute money like a socialist,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you got to first collect it like a capitalist. That
- 5:32Speaker 1: God helps those who help themselves. Even the Bible says
- 5:36Speaker 1: and proverbs to be poor is not to not have anything.
- 5:40Speaker 1: To be poor is to not to not do anything.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And lazy hands make a man poor. That's biblical. We
- 5:47Speaker 1: somehow fail to talk about that part of the Bible.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The Bible, by the way, talks about money more than
- 5:53Speaker 1: it talks about any single other topic, more than two
- 5:57Speaker 1: thousand mentions. Capitalism is well, Money's not evil. To start there,
- 6:04Speaker 1: it's the love of money that's evil. Okay, Capitalism in
- 6:09Speaker 1: and of itself is not bad. It's bad capitalism, right,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and good capitalism is where I benefit and you benefit
- 6:16Speaker 1: more right, Bad capitalism is where I benefit you pay
- 6:19Speaker 1: a price for it. Slavery, prostitution, criminality. We can go
- 6:24Speaker 1: on and on, gaming the system, the subprime mortgage crisis
- 6:28Speaker 1: of two thousand and eight, so on and so forth,
- 6:32Speaker 1: transactional activities that are taking in nature. Right where I
- 6:39Speaker 1: believe that you can do well and do good. I
- 6:42Speaker 1: believe you can do well by doing good. I believe
- 6:45Speaker 1: that my life is but one example of not perfect,
- 6:50Speaker 1: highly imperfect. I've made mistakes. I've made one today, I'm sure.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But I think trajectory wise, we have shown you can fall.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Even when you fall, you fall forward, that you can
- 7:04Speaker 1: be honest, have integrity, run a decent, honorable business, treat
- 7:08Speaker 1: people fairly, leave society better, and build something worthy of support.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Build wealth for yourself and for others, my god, even community.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So now we've broken some of those eggs, some of
- 7:34Speaker 1: the negatives, and let me deal with another one real quickly.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I've talked about in some of my straight talk videos.
- 7:41Speaker 1: That that we've over romanticized relationships. And look at the
- 7:48Speaker 1: baseline of this philosophy, of this belief is that whatever
- 7:53Speaker 1: decision you make emotionally is going to be a bad decision, right.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And so if you are in a relationship ship let's
- 8:00Speaker 1: call it a loving or romantic relationship, and your primary,
- 8:04Speaker 1: or God forbid, your only criteria for that relationship is
- 8:09Speaker 1: my gosh, she's fine or he's handsome, then you're going
- 8:14Speaker 1: to win the battle and lose a war. You're going
- 8:17Speaker 1: to be rearranged in the deck chairs on the Titanic.
- 8:19Speaker 1: The ship is sinking and you're picking drapes. It's bound
- 8:23Speaker 1: to fail. How could it not. You've invested your time
- 8:26Speaker 1: and attention to something that is transitory, temporary, and is
- 8:29Speaker 1: going to fall away. Quite literally, the looks are going
- 8:33Speaker 1: to fade and the body's going to fall away, and
- 8:36Speaker 1: what do you have left that marriage before it was
- 8:40Speaker 1: even before we romanticized it, before God made it endowed
- 8:45Speaker 1: it with spiritual dimensions. Three thousand years before the story
- 8:50Speaker 1: of Christ, there were stories around the world of marriage,
- 8:54Speaker 1: and it was basically a business arrangement. It was asset protection,
- 8:58Speaker 1: wealth creation, so on and so forth. In fact, early marriages,
- 9:03Speaker 1: oftentimes the husband and wife you want to call them
- 9:07Speaker 1: the adjoined group. That people have different terminologies, even for.
- 9:13Speaker 2: The beloved.
- 9:14Speaker 1: The husband and wife didn't even sleep in the same domicile.
- 9:20Speaker 1: They didn't sleep in the same bed. You'll find a
- 9:24Speaker 1: lot of stories in Europe during the Middle Ages where
- 9:28Speaker 1: they're married couples and they slept in quote separate castles
- 9:32Speaker 1: end quote. So I'm not saying that you should do
- 9:39Speaker 1: away with your romantic beliefs, of course not. You should
- 9:43Speaker 1: love who you're with, but make sure they're not a dummy.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You know, I love a lot of people, but I
- 9:50Speaker 1: don't want to be in a relationship with them. I mean,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I love my it's family members. I want loan money to.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I mean, I'll give them some money, but like I
- 9:56Speaker 1: loan them some money, it's it's I mean that is
- 10:00Speaker 1: asking for trouble. They've proven themselves incapable of managing financial affairs.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Other people in my family and my love circle are
- 10:09Speaker 1: very capable. They get certain other considerations. I love everybody,
- 10:15Speaker 1: but against one is charity and one is a proper
- 10:19Speaker 1: business relationship. So when you again, I joke, when you
- 10:22Speaker 1: go to the club after a long week, you know,
- 10:24Speaker 1: you go to the club and you hang it out
- 10:26Speaker 1: and you say, oh my.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Gosh, she's fine, Oh he's handsome. What's your credit score? Right?
- 10:31Speaker 1: And I'm joking, but I'm serious because you've just if
- 10:36Speaker 1: you select the right partner, that's not just your love partner,
- 10:39Speaker 1: your a manic partner. Now you're hanging partner, you're right
- 10:42Speaker 1: or die partner, your fun partner. That's your business partner.
- 10:45Speaker 1: And if you do it right for life and you
- 10:48Speaker 1: should be better together. Now we're starting to make the
- 10:51Speaker 1: pivot right from what you should be a discussion about
- 10:55Speaker 1: what you're against to what you're for. Your partner should
- 11:00Speaker 1: make you better. You can do bad all by yourself.
- 11:04Speaker 1: The late Quincy Jones, my dear brother and friend, once
- 11:07Speaker 1: told me, John, the only thing worse and being alone
- 11:10Speaker 1: is wishing that you were he's correct. You can do
- 11:13Speaker 1: bad all by yourself. Two plus two in a relationship
- 11:16Speaker 1: should not be addition, should be multiplication, multiplication meaning you
- 11:20Speaker 1: should be better together.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Two plus two should equal six, eight or ten. Oh
- 11:23Speaker 2: what are you doing?
- 11:30Speaker 1: So let me now talk about this segment as we
- 11:34Speaker 1: pivot into hunters, skinners, and cooks. The hidden architecture of wealth.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Let's start with it, then, an easy one. Married couples
- 11:51Speaker 1: are someone who's married is exponentially more likely to be
- 11:57Speaker 1: wealthy and to build wealth on balance over time than
- 12:02Speaker 1: someone who's single. That doesn't mean you can't do a
- 12:04Speaker 1: wealth single clearly, but you get the right partner and
- 12:08Speaker 1: it's a rocket shit. I'm gonna get into what I
- 12:12Speaker 1: mean by that, but let me now define three threes.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:17Speaker 1: The first threes are kinds of relationships. So you have
- 12:24Speaker 1: what I call a giver and a giver, and that's exotic.
- 12:28Speaker 1: You have a giver and a taker. That's neurotic. You
- 12:33Speaker 1: have a taker and a taker, well, that's psychotic. And
- 12:38Speaker 1: guess which relationships you don't want or shouldn't want. The
- 12:42Speaker 1: ladder two most? What are the most relationships we end
- 12:46Speaker 1: up with the ladder two? If you're listening to this
- 12:52Speaker 1: as you're working out or commuting, or cooking, or going
- 12:58Speaker 1: about your life, or even better, sitting with family members
- 13:00Speaker 1: and a weekly family meeting, or sitting with your boys
- 13:03Speaker 1: at the barbershop, or sitting with your girls and.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Sorority meeting, or.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Around family members that you think are aspirational and want
- 13:13Speaker 1: to do better. I'm going to suggest that you're probably
- 13:16Speaker 1: the giver in a relationship and somebody else is probably
- 13:18Speaker 1: the taker. Well, that's a relationship. You need to at
- 13:22Speaker 1: least re evaluate what you want. Ideally, Yes, life is
- 13:27Speaker 1: not perfect. Don't let the perfect become the death of
- 13:30Speaker 1: the good. But you don't want to intentionally create a
- 13:32Speaker 1: situation where you can't win.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So I have.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Worked very diligently to remove toxicity in toxic people out
- 13:42Speaker 1: of my life.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Some people didn't want to go right.
- 13:48Speaker 1: The word personality comes from the latter word persona, which
- 13:51Speaker 1: means to perform. So your personality is literally your performance
- 13:55Speaker 1: you're putting on for the world. Doesn't mean it's a lie,
- 13:57Speaker 1: it just means that's what we're doing. It's a step
- 14:00Speaker 1: remove from yourself. So you just need to make sure
- 14:02Speaker 1: that the people that are close to you are putting
- 14:06Speaker 1: on an honorable performance. Right, and again, I'm going it
- 14:10Speaker 1: goes back to a giver, and a giver is exotic.
- 14:15Speaker 1: A given to taker is neurotica taker and taker psychotic.
- 14:18Speaker 1: That a positive person. I can't guarantee that being positive
- 14:22Speaker 1: is going to make you a success, but I absolutely
- 14:24Speaker 1: guarantee you that being negative is in time going to
- 14:27Speaker 1: make you fail. So make sure you curate your environment.
- 14:31Speaker 1: You hang around nine broke people, you'll be the tenth.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Now these things are starting to weave together, maybe it
- 14:35Speaker 1: starts to make more sense to you. And the opposite
- 14:39Speaker 1: is also true. By the way, it's compounding. Right, you
- 14:42Speaker 1: make money during the day, you build wealth in your sleep.
- 14:44Speaker 1: It's not just a financial term. It's education, it's aspiration,
- 14:48Speaker 1: it's mindset. I wake up every day with the intention
- 14:53Speaker 1: of being better than I went to bed last night.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Are better than I was yesterday.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So today is an accumulation everything I learned and everything
- 14:59Speaker 1: I evolved through yesterday and how I ended up today.
- 15:02Speaker 1: It would sleep and rest. So I have a map
- 15:06Speaker 1: that I follow, a graph, and maybe i'll I'll add
- 15:09Speaker 1: it to some of the social media that comes with
- 15:12Speaker 1: the clips that come with my weekly podcast, But it's
- 15:16Speaker 1: every day. It's vision, mission, strategy, plan, tactics to dos
- 15:27Speaker 1: two done's assessment, evaluation, reimagination based on the evaluation, reset
- 15:36Speaker 1: based on the evaluation, and reimagination, reset right, and then
- 15:43Speaker 1: refine vision. It's a software upgrade. We should all be
- 15:46Speaker 1: attempting to have software upgrades in our lives all the time.
- 15:51Speaker 1: You should always endeavor to meet a better version of
- 15:55Speaker 1: yourself when.
- 15:55Speaker 2: You get that iPhone. I have an iPhone seventeen pro.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I love it, but once i it, immediately within two
- 16:01Speaker 1: weeks I got a notice from Apple, Hey, it's time
- 16:05Speaker 1: you plug your phone in because it's time for a
- 16:08Speaker 1: download of our you know, seventeen point five, seventeen point three,
- 16:12Speaker 1: seventeen point seventeen point one, and then you know now
- 16:15Speaker 1: this eighteen point something that the phone just came out.
- 16:17Speaker 1: They don't even begrudge themselves with perfection. They realize that
- 16:24Speaker 1: all you can do is all you can do, and
- 16:26Speaker 1: you can adjust as you go, So don't have the
- 16:28Speaker 1: perfect become the death of the good. Remember, a saint
- 16:31Speaker 1: is a center that got up. We're all, to quote
- 16:33Speaker 1: my father in law, doctor David Dalton, angels with dirty
- 16:37Speaker 1: faces and by the way my wife, Shater Bryant, who
- 16:41Speaker 1: has a credit score better than me, by the way,
- 16:43Speaker 1: and is smarter than me in many areas. And I
- 16:46Speaker 1: focus on wealth, she focuses on health. I make pretty
- 16:50Speaker 1: good decisions around money and all that kind of stuff.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I make the house, she turns into a home. Okay,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I build the wealth and she makes sure is the
- 16:57Speaker 1: health in a way that sustains our life. So again,
- 17:02Speaker 1: are you better together? Does your partner clearly make you
- 17:06Speaker 1: a better human being, a better leader? So here's some
- 17:09Speaker 1: So I give you some foundational pip. Now let's go
- 17:16Speaker 1: into the second three group. I gave you the first
- 17:18Speaker 1: three group of the type of relationship capital you should
- 17:23Speaker 1: want around you, and I could spend a tire podcast
- 17:26Speaker 1: just on that, but I want to cover a lot
- 17:27Speaker 1: of ground here. Now this is a segment topic here,
- 17:31Speaker 1: Hunter Skinner Cook. These are the three categories that I
- 17:36Speaker 1: want you to focus on in total in your life
- 17:40Speaker 1: as a framework. After you've gotten the right relationship capital,
- 17:44Speaker 1: right energy around you, the right team, the right special
- 17:48Speaker 1: forces team. Once you know you've got that, now let's
- 17:51Speaker 1: talk about the roles and responsibilities. So every successful family,
- 17:57Speaker 1: every winning partnership, every great business, every great community advocacy activity,
- 18:08Speaker 1: including the civil rights movement by the way that my
- 18:11Speaker 1: mentor Ambassador Andrew Young helped to lead with doctor King.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And it will start making sense to you when I
- 18:16Speaker 1: give you these analogies of who is playing which roles
- 18:20Speaker 1: or which instruments if you're thinking about it, an orchestra assembly,
- 18:25Speaker 1: an orchestra organization, But every successful family, winning, partnership, group, business, etc.
- 18:32Speaker 1: And frankly, every civilization that has ever lasted has three
- 18:36Speaker 1: kinds of people, essentially, a hunter, a skinner, and a cook.
- 18:46Speaker 1: The hunter goes out and secures the bag they find opportunity,
- 18:51Speaker 1: create momentum. The skinner protects the bag, analyzes it, organizes it,
- 18:59Speaker 1: counts it, manages it, and make sure it lasts. And
- 19:05Speaker 1: the cook delivers turns vision and resources into something real,
- 19:10Speaker 1: valuable and excellent. Here's the problem. Most of us were
- 19:18Speaker 1: never taught. This is what we're not dumb and we're
- 19:22Speaker 1: not stupid. Is what we don't know that we don't
- 19:25Speaker 1: know but we think we know. Is an old Southern saying,
- 19:28Speaker 1: no matter how much I love you, my son or
- 19:30Speaker 1: my daughter, if I don't have wisdom, all I can
- 19:33Speaker 1: give you is my own ignorance. So out of love,
- 19:36Speaker 1: we pass down bad habits from generation to generation out
- 19:39Speaker 1: of love and good intentions.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Good intentions are not enough alone. Love is not enough.
- 19:47Speaker 1: You need knowledge, you need applied knowledge, and you need
- 19:51Speaker 1: a good business plan to apply that knowledge and that
- 19:54Speaker 1: love with and against and two we were taught to hustle.
- 20:00Speaker 1: That's what surviving mindset does. That was a seventh book
- 20:03Speaker 1: coming out next year called Capitalism for All on the
- 20:06Speaker 1: two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of America. The book before
- 20:09Speaker 1: that was Financial Literacy for All, which is a bestseller
- 20:11Speaker 1: right now. Thank you all who supported that book been
- 20:13Speaker 1: on the bestseller in this category for going on two
- 20:16Speaker 1: years now. The book before that was Up from Nothing.
- 20:19Speaker 1: The book from that was The Mimo. There's seven books, right,
- 20:24Speaker 1: goes on goes on how the poor can save capitalism, love,
- 20:27Speaker 1: leadership back in our future probably this one. But the
- 20:32Speaker 1: book the Memo talks about mindsets, right, and a surviving
- 20:39Speaker 1: mindset is what we see in the neighborhood, the struggling
- 20:43Speaker 1: neighborhoods where we grow up in and that's where you
- 20:46Speaker 1: see a five unner credit score, and that's why you
- 20:49Speaker 1: see a check cash or next to a payday loan lender,
- 20:51Speaker 1: next to a rental owned store, next to a title lender,
- 20:54Speaker 1: next to a liquor store, next to a pawn shop,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and a church down the street. That's your neighborhood therapist
- 21:00Speaker 1: trying to make you sure you don't go crazy. Go
- 21:02Speaker 1: postal once a week, right, and you know, talk to
- 21:07Speaker 1: black people, my people. I said, you know what, you
- 21:10Speaker 1: should go see a psychologists. Go see a therapy of
- 21:12Speaker 1: a therapist. Over this gets some helping. Oh, I don't
- 21:14Speaker 1: want to go to a therapist. I don't know a psychologists.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Somebody might think I'm crazy. My joke, joking response, sort
- 21:20Speaker 1: of slightly serious. If you black in America, don't think
- 21:23Speaker 1: you're crazy, you are crazy. Right, So the church is
- 21:27Speaker 1: playing that role plus plus because the spirituality is the
- 21:31Speaker 1: base of everything. We're not human beings having a spiritual experience,
- 21:34Speaker 1: where spiritual beings having a human experience, but we have
- 21:38Speaker 1: unfortunately normalized very much like through coaching, through counseling, spirituality switch.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Spirituality and the love of God rise up or sneaks
- 21:48Speaker 1: up upon you and you start to see his or
- 21:50Speaker 1: her value. Bad things sneak up on you in broad
- 21:55Speaker 1: daylight and we normalize it like check Casher's paid a
- 21:58Speaker 1: loan l and there's rental own stores. These business in
- 22:00Speaker 1: and of themselves, by the way, are not evil, like
- 22:03Speaker 1: money's not evil. But if they're in a neighborhood designed
- 22:06Speaker 1: to prey upon a vulnerable population who's depressed, distressed in
- 22:14Speaker 1: a surviving mindset, well that's a different thing.
- 22:17Speaker 2: So most of us were never.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Taught the framework that I am outlining for you in
- 22:23Speaker 1: this podcast episode. In the rest of the series that's
- 22:27Speaker 1: now covering two years going on two years now, are
- 22:31Speaker 1: my Straight Talk Live series or the books that I've written,
- 22:34Speaker 1: or what the work that Operation Hope does. No one's
- 22:36Speaker 1: ever taught you this, and no one's ever taught to
- 22:38Speaker 1: you financial literacy, which I believe is a civil rights
- 22:41Speaker 1: issue of this generation. If you don't know better, you
- 22:42Speaker 1: cannot do better. We were taught to hustle, we were
- 22:47Speaker 1: taught to dream, but we were not taught how to
- 22:53Speaker 1: actually win and how winning works. Nobody eats if everybody
- 23:02Speaker 1: nobody builds wealth, if nobody manages the money, and nobody
- 23:08Speaker 1: succeeds long term, if nobody delivers excellence in the organization.
- 23:15Speaker 1: In this sense of a family you can think about
- 23:18Speaker 1: what I just talked about. There, the excellence delivery person,
- 23:22Speaker 1: the product delivery person, the cook is whoever the domestic
- 23:27Speaker 1: engineer is, the mother or the father who stays home
- 23:31Speaker 1: and takes care of the children and helps to raise them.
- 23:33Speaker 1: You're delivering a product probably the primary product of the family.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Whoever manages the family budget is in this case the skinner.
- 23:49Speaker 1: And whoever goes and pulls in the paycheck, the income,
- 23:53Speaker 1: close the deals, whatever, that person's the hunter. Guess which
- 23:56Speaker 1: one I am. By the way, my wife calls me
- 23:58Speaker 1: a double alpha read red red red red. Well, that's
- 24:05Speaker 1: what I'm good at, right, And here's and and here's
- 24:09Speaker 1: another thing that I can tell you about a relationship.
- 24:12Speaker 1: You can have somebody who makes some money and spends it, Okay,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and maybe if if you're single, that then that you're
- 24:18Speaker 1: doing both roles. You can you can have somebody who
- 24:21Speaker 1: make who who who manages the money and spends it.
- 24:27Speaker 1: But you can't not have somebody who just spends it. Okay,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'll say it again. You can have somebody who makes
- 24:31Speaker 1: some money and spends it, but the presumpt presumption is
- 24:35Speaker 1: that they're managing it or in a relationship. You have
- 24:37Speaker 1: somebody who makes the money and I'm sorry, somebody else
- 24:39Speaker 1: who who who manages the money and spends it. But
- 24:43Speaker 1: what you cannot have is just somebody who just spends
- 24:45Speaker 1: the money. Again, look at the quality of your relationships
- 24:48Speaker 1: and whether you've got a giver her or a taker
- 24:52Speaker 1: right next to you. Right, don't don't don't blame it
- 24:55Speaker 1: on me. I'm just don't point and say John told
- 24:58Speaker 1: you to get into a fight tonight. I'm just saying
- 25:03Speaker 1: you can work this stuff out through conversation communication. Even
- 25:07Speaker 1: if somebody is being a taker, they may not know
- 25:10Speaker 1: they're being a taker. That may be how they were
- 25:12Speaker 1: raised and maybe just it, just maybe habit, maybe circumstances.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Maybe they ever surviving mindset when they need to be
- 25:19Speaker 1: having a building, winning mindset. Right, there's surviving, thriving and
- 25:23Speaker 1: building mindset. That's from my book, the memo. So getting
- 25:26Speaker 1: back to this, it's not about blame. This is about correction.
- 25:29Speaker 1: This is about repair and healing. You can't heal if
- 25:34Speaker 1: you don't deal. I'm repeat this now. Nobody eats if
- 25:38Speaker 1: everybody hunts, nobody builds wealth, if nobody manages the money,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and nobody succeeds long term if nobody delivers excellence. This
- 25:46Speaker 1: relates to relationships, partnerships, businesship, business and business ships. It
- 25:52Speaker 1: relates to everything, church, nonprofits, for profits. By the way,
- 25:57Speaker 1: don't trust me. Apply this to what ever you're thinking about,
- 26:01Speaker 1: and do you tell me whether you think I'm right
- 26:03Speaker 1: or not. Clubs, your organizations, your fraternities, your sororities, okay,
- 26:08Speaker 1: and how they manage. And once you understand the framework,
- 26:13Speaker 1: you start to see why families thrive some families thrive,
- 26:20Speaker 1: and why some businesses scale. And you begin to see
- 26:25Speaker 1: why others, just as talented struggle and fail. And many times,
- 26:32Speaker 1: while it may be racial or some kind of bias
- 26:35Speaker 1: or prejudice on the front end of what got people
- 26:38Speaker 1: there to a point where they're inclined to fail, the
- 26:42Speaker 1: failure itself is not in and of itself racial, in
- 26:46Speaker 1: and of itself biased, because you're in control, whoever the
- 26:50Speaker 1: you is, of what you do with what you have
- 26:53Speaker 1: to work with at that moment. I often say that
- 26:55Speaker 1: people of color, minorities, women, etc. We've been doing so
- 26:58Speaker 1: much with so little for so long. We can almost
- 27:01Speaker 1: do anything with nothing, including poor whites. By the way,
- 27:03Speaker 1: it's more poor whites than poor anybody else. But struggle
- 27:07Speaker 1: enough is not struggle alone, I'm sorry, is not enough.
- 27:11Speaker 1: You need a business plan, as I said earlier, attached
- 27:15Speaker 1: to it, and consider me your economic plumber, consider me
- 27:19Speaker 1: the community's economic plumber. I'm trying to put the plumbing
- 27:22Speaker 1: back into a system, or into a system that's.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Never had it.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Talent galore, but no north star and a map and
- 27:30Speaker 1: a roadmap and a plan to get there. Today, I
- 27:33Speaker 1: want to talk about about mindset, wealth, relationships, and character
- 27:42Speaker 1: and how aligning the right people in the right roles
- 27:45Speaker 1: with the right values is the difference between surviving and winning. Okay,
- 27:52Speaker 1: so let's now get into the three rows. Right, you
- 27:58Speaker 1: should write this down, you should take notes, you should
- 28:00Speaker 1: go back and listen to this with those you love. Right,
- 28:03Speaker 1: this is literally a masterclass hunter. Again, that's me, and
- 28:10Speaker 1: oftentimes I have to play several roles, but that's at
- 28:12Speaker 1: very least me. They are opportunity finders. They are in
- 28:18Speaker 1: the roles like sales, deals, vision, momentum.
- 28:23Speaker 2: One of the strengths they have is growth.
- 28:26Speaker 1: They are obsessed with growth, the risk of chaos, ego, overspending,
- 28:34Speaker 1: because well, they think they can do anything an entrepreneur
- 28:39Speaker 1: jumps out of an airplane and builds a parachute on
- 28:43Speaker 1: the way down. I mean, an entrepreneur works eighteen hours
- 28:47Speaker 1: and eight keep getting a job. An entrepreneur believes they
- 28:49Speaker 1: can do anything. You know, business leaders builders, Sometimes the ego,
- 28:53Speaker 1: the confidence gets away from us and we need something
- 28:58Speaker 1: to root us. Right by the way, in a family
- 29:01Speaker 1: A talking about a family situation. If it's a couple,
- 29:03Speaker 1: when they're both you're both working. Try to create a
- 29:06Speaker 1: situation where one person earns the money with their income,
- 29:10Speaker 1: paycheck or whatever right, the other person you invest the
- 29:13Speaker 1: money with their income or paycheck or whatever right. So
- 29:18Speaker 1: one's making a living paying for that, the other one's
- 29:21Speaker 1: building wealth investing in that. There's the Bernard Shirley Kinsey
- 29:27Speaker 1: afri American family out of California. He was an executive
- 29:30Speaker 1: of Xerox and she was raising Khalil. The kids name
- 29:34Speaker 1: their child's name, their son, and they literally built from
- 29:39Speaker 1: a working class and middle class family up to a
- 29:42Speaker 1: multimillion dollar situation with an incredible art collections now touring
- 29:47Speaker 1: the country, and incredible wealth of the house overlooking a
- 29:50Speaker 1: cliff in Lord Malibu. Built all this on these principles
- 29:54Speaker 1: that I'm talking about. I'm not talking to them, I'm
- 29:56Speaker 1: just giving them as an example. So shout out to
- 29:58Speaker 1: Bernard and Shirley Kinsey in their family. You should research
- 30:01Speaker 1: them as a model for this. They did it from
- 30:05Speaker 1: the execut talking about one person. Bernard made the money right,
- 30:08Speaker 1: and he paid the bills. And then surely with with
- 30:11Speaker 1: the income she was creating and some excess money from
- 30:14Speaker 1: you know, the Bernard Kinsey didn't need to pay bills,
- 30:18Speaker 1: she invested it right and uh and that compounding created wealth.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Of two lifeestimes.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Hunters create momentum, but momentum without discipline can destroy you.
- 30:33Speaker 1: M let's talk about the skinner. By the way, I
- 30:38Speaker 1: think your relationships also should have a red in the blue.
- 30:41Speaker 1: And this is this is gender neutral. A red is
- 30:45Speaker 1: the fire truck Ferrari kick kick career. In take names,
- 30:49Speaker 1: move followed lead followed the head, Get the heck out
- 30:51Speaker 1: of the way. Uh, go go go do do do
- 30:55Speaker 1: get get get make nick make the leader the driver
- 30:59Speaker 1: of the car. Guess which one I am? And the
- 31:01Speaker 1: blue is the passenger of the car. Down Conter on
- 31:04Speaker 1: a on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The nurturer the fireplace,
- 31:09Speaker 1: the fire pit, the warmth, the down, the support base,
- 31:15Speaker 1: the person that nests That makes it all okay, that
- 31:18Speaker 1: brings purpose and meaning to everything that's being so called
- 31:22Speaker 1: pioneered here. You need not one or the other, you
- 31:25Speaker 1: need both. And if you have both that people are alphas,
- 31:29Speaker 1: both reds. You put fire in the fire, you create
- 31:32Speaker 1: an inferno. Which you need to do is put water
- 31:34Speaker 1: on fire and create a little bit of steam, maybe
- 31:36Speaker 1: a little bit of positive heat.
- 31:37Speaker 2: But you need to put that fire out. And so
- 31:40Speaker 2: you really.
- 31:43Speaker 1: These rows again are not gender specific, but you need
- 31:47Speaker 1: to figure out what your strength is and what your
- 31:49Speaker 1: partner strength is, whether it's business or personal relationships. Uh
- 31:53Speaker 1: and organizationally, who is doing what? And make sure you
- 31:57Speaker 1: aren't stepping on each other's lines. Just quote an acting metaphor.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Let's talk about the skinner now organizer, protector, manager, budgeting,
- 32:08Speaker 1: credit systems, risk, strength, sustainability, risk, fear, paralysis, no growth.
- 32:23Speaker 1: They don't want things to go wrong. They don't they're
- 32:25Speaker 1: afraid of the boogeyman. They're afraid thing is going to
- 32:27Speaker 1: go wrong with this banker came and taught financial literacy
- 32:32Speaker 1: to me when I was nine years old. And you
- 32:33Speaker 1: know that story. And I said to the banker, what
- 32:37Speaker 1: do you do for a living? He taught me this
- 32:39Speaker 1: financial literacy course in company. He said, I'm a banker,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and our finance entrepreneurs. I said, I don't know what
- 32:44Speaker 1: an entrepreneur is, but it was legal, and you're financing it.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I'm going to be one. That's what I am. Today.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Bankers keep the entrepreneur out of the ditch. Well, countants
- 32:54Speaker 1: and lawyers do too, but the bank the banker is
- 32:57Speaker 1: putting parameters hopefully around that entrepreneurs yest and energy. Well,
- 33:02Speaker 1: the banker doesn't it accounts in the and the lawyers
- 33:06Speaker 1: are going to tell that entrepreneur you shouldn't do this,
- 33:08Speaker 1: should do that, maybe don't do this, don't do that.
- 33:10Speaker 1: The entrepreneur's job is to is to is to listen
- 33:14Speaker 1: to and to be boundles within boundaries, but to ignore
- 33:18Speaker 1: the vision that the banker and the accountant and the
- 33:20Speaker 1: lawyer don't understand. Also, because that entrepreneur's job is to
- 33:24Speaker 1: drive growth. That's his or her strength. So the banker
- 33:27Speaker 1: needs the entrepreneur. The entrepreneur needs the bankers. You understand that, right.
- 33:31Speaker 1: The wife needs a husband, The husband needs a wife. Right,
- 33:34Speaker 1: but stop stop stop dismissing each other's role, or stepping
- 33:38Speaker 1: on each other's mission and mandate, or and or or
- 33:44Speaker 1: maligning or disrespecting somebody. You just don't understand. Their role
- 33:51Speaker 1: is different. It's not better for worse, it's just different.
- 33:57Speaker 1: So that skinner is going to be risk averse. So
- 34:02Speaker 1: there's gonna be a little constructive friction between the skinner
- 34:04Speaker 1: and the hunter right at again rightly, So that constructive
- 34:07Speaker 1: friction calls conversation called discussion in a relationship, and through
- 34:11Speaker 1: that relationship you find the right balance.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Here's your key tie ins.
- 34:18Speaker 1: This is where credit score lives, right, because you can
- 34:23Speaker 1: balance all this risk out if you know your if
- 34:25Speaker 1: your credit score is high above seven hundred ideally, then
- 34:29Speaker 1: you know you're not taking undue risk because you're paying
- 34:31Speaker 1: your bills.
- 34:31Speaker 2: You're sort of keeping it all in balance.
- 34:34Speaker 1: H And that credit score at a high credit score allows
- 34:36Speaker 1: you to access prime credit. And there's no billionaire, millionaire, multimillionaire, city, municipality, county, state, country,
- 34:44Speaker 1: company that didn't do it without the help of good debt.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Right, So good.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Debts tied is something that appreciates bad debt type, something
- 34:53Speaker 1: that depreciates, giving you a lot of stuff. In one
- 34:56Speaker 1: podcast episode, there's going to be a masterclass. So you
- 35:00Speaker 1: do you want to be an access prime capital, right?
- 35:04Speaker 1: That's power. A good skinner doesn't kill the dream. They
- 35:10Speaker 1: make sure it survives again. You may make the house,
- 35:16Speaker 1: your partner turns it into a home. It's just about
- 35:18Speaker 1: roles and responsibilities. Everybody's doing their part. The cook, it's execution,
- 35:26Speaker 1: excellence and reputation. It's product service, customer experience, the strength
- 35:35Speaker 1: of this role, trust and value.
- 35:40Speaker 2: What's the risk burnout? Being undervalued?
- 35:46Speaker 1: That domestic engineer in the householders raising their kids feels
- 35:50Speaker 1: that their partner doesn't give them sometimes the credit that
- 35:53Speaker 1: they deserve. So stop and celebrate them, acknowledge them because
- 35:57Speaker 1: they're doing one of the hardest jobs on the planet.
- 36:01Speaker 1: But the cook oftentimes is undervalued. Ambassador Andrew Young was
- 36:06Speaker 1: in many ways both the skinner and the cook in
- 36:09Speaker 1: the civil rights movement. More so the skinner, but the
- 36:13Speaker 1: play occasionally he was a cook also. But doctor King
- 36:16Speaker 1: in that example was the hunter and he got all
- 36:18Speaker 1: the attention. But doctor King realized he needed an Andrew
- 36:22Speaker 1: Young and a credit. Scott King, and you know doctor
- 36:27Speaker 1: Dorthy hyde, and all the heroes and she ros in
- 36:29Speaker 1: the movement had roles to play. So you don't build
- 36:35Speaker 1: wealth on ideas, you build it on delivery our as
- 36:40Speaker 1: my friend, the CEO of Gallup, former CEO Gallup, chairman
- 36:45Speaker 1: of Gallup once told me, Uh, he said, John, an
- 36:49Speaker 1: innovation without a customer next to it, it is not
- 36:53Speaker 1: a business.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Uh. And he was correct. Jim Clifton is his.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I've now covered a lot of ground about these key
- 37:08Speaker 1: roles and responsibilities. I've talked to you about a giver
- 37:11Speaker 1: to giver, and that's compounding trust growth. Right, a giving
- 37:18Speaker 1: or taker burnout resentment. That's where these leads to right
- 37:23Speaker 1: A taker or taker leads to collapse. And repeat that,
- 37:26Speaker 1: A given to giver leads to compounding trust and growth.
- 37:31Speaker 2: What did I say?
- 37:32Speaker 1: You make money during the day, you buill wealth and
- 37:33Speaker 1: your sleep. You start to get all this. This just
- 37:35Speaker 1: started to come together. We're gonna do this in less
- 37:38Speaker 1: than forty minutes. Change your world in less than forty minutes.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Share this, Share this episode with everybody you know, repeat rents, repeat,
- 37:46Speaker 1: play it over because again, if you don't hear it
- 37:49Speaker 1: a dozen times in your head, it may not ring true.
- 37:52Speaker 1: It may not bake in. This is literally everything other
- 37:57Speaker 1: stuff builds on this. You go in different directions, but
- 38:00Speaker 1: if this is your foundation, then you begin to start
- 38:04Speaker 1: sort of making the right choices and decisions a giver,
- 38:08Speaker 1: and a giver leads to compounding of trust and growth.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And I believe wealth physical wealth, health wealth, spiritual wealth,
- 38:16Speaker 1: emotional wealth, psychological wealth, real wealth, relationship, capital changes, endorphins
- 38:22Speaker 1: in your brain change. You become more positive anyway, and
- 38:26Speaker 1: that's why I think you live longer. By the way,
- 38:28Speaker 1: if you live in a five under credit score neighborhood,
- 38:30Speaker 1: you lived sixty one years of age on average. That's
- 38:32Speaker 1: our Whope Financial Wellness Index. Thank you experience for that
- 38:35Speaker 1: data that you give us in the Census Bureau. If
- 38:39Speaker 1: you live in a seven hundred credit coord neighborhood, fifteen
- 38:42Speaker 1: minutes apart. By the way, typically in urban communities across
- 38:45Speaker 1: this country, we have evaluated through our Hope Index, you
- 38:48Speaker 1: live to eighty one years of age. So for every
- 38:51Speaker 1: fifty point increase in your credit score, you're living another
- 38:54Speaker 1: five years. That's not about the credit score, it's a
- 38:57Speaker 1: trending indicators of wealth, hope, well being, belief, confidence, trust, optimism, right,
- 39:05Speaker 1: which is affecting everything else. Again, whether you believe you
- 39:08Speaker 1: can or whether you believe you can't, you're right again.
- 39:10Speaker 1: A giver and a taker leads to burnout resentment from
- 39:13Speaker 1: the person doing the giving. By the way, a taker
- 39:15Speaker 1: or taker just leads to collapse. The relationship just comes unglued, unglued.
- 39:20Speaker 1: It's just it's transactional, and it's selfish, and it's not sustainable.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And I want you to step over mess, not in it.
- 39:27Speaker 1: I don't want you to rearrange the deck chairs and
- 39:29Speaker 1: the titannic. The ship is sinking and you picking drapes.
- 39:32Speaker 1: I want that for you. You cannot out earn bad relationships.
- 39:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna repeat that, you cannot out earn bad relationships.
- 39:45Speaker 2: They're just going to collapse. It's just a matter of time.
- 39:49Speaker 1: So we talked about how this relates to family, business partnerships,
- 39:53Speaker 1: friend groups, romantic relationships. Let me give you some now,
- 40:03Speaker 1: some foundational stuff to layer on top of this. Let's
- 40:06Speaker 1: talk about integrity, credit, and character. Do you know the
- 40:09Speaker 1: work credit comes comes from the Latin room work credit toe,
- 40:12Speaker 1: which means credibility has nothing to do with money.
- 40:16Speaker 2: You know, the.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Capitalism comes from the Latin word word copy toss, which
- 40:20Speaker 1: loosely defined means knowledge in the head. Do you know
- 40:23Speaker 1: that banking is the trust business, none of the none
- 40:26Speaker 1: of those three things that actually has anything directly to
- 40:28Speaker 1: do with money. Deep, isn't it? But it leads through money,
- 40:33Speaker 1: which is a transfer of value to wealth creation. So
- 40:37Speaker 1: let's talk about integrity, credit, integrity, credit and character and
- 40:41Speaker 1: black folks in particular.
- 40:42Speaker 2: We have mastered creativity, culture and cool.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Uh And what I want to master now is credit, capitalism,
- 40:58Speaker 1: free enterprise, and new community. But go from rocking the
- 41:01Speaker 1: mic to owning it. Another podcast for another day. So
- 41:06Speaker 1: I want you to pay your bills. I want you
- 41:08Speaker 1: to keep your word. I want you to fix the
- 41:11Speaker 1: mistakes fast. I want you to tell the truth early.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I want you to stop stressing on being perfect. There
- 41:21Speaker 1: is no perfect. It's just the best you can do.
- 41:23Speaker 1: We're all angels with dirty faces, right. A saint is
- 41:26Speaker 1: a center that got up. Just do the best you can.
- 41:28Speaker 1: God knows you're center. I mean, God was a miracle,
- 41:31Speaker 1: you know. Just do the best you can. Just have
- 41:33Speaker 1: good intentions and correct as soon as you can with
- 41:39Speaker 1: as much transparency and authenticity as you're able to muster
- 41:43Speaker 1: and you'll have.
- 41:44Speaker 2: And you'll win.
- 41:45Speaker 1: You'll even when you fail, you fall forward. And remember
- 41:49Speaker 1: that rainbows only follow storms. You cannot have a rainbow
- 41:53Speaker 1: without a storm first. So you actually grow even through
- 41:57Speaker 1: your challenges. And God knows, I've had tons of those myself,
- 42:01Speaker 1: and I'm certainly better because of Actually, my book Up
- 42:04Speaker 1: from Nothing talks about how I've really won through I've
- 42:08Speaker 1: managed my failures, not my successes. I believe that the
- 42:12Speaker 1: success in life is about successfully managing pain, the pain
- 42:16Speaker 1: we create for ourselves, the pain visited upon us, visited
- 42:20Speaker 1: to us by others. Your credit score is not just
- 42:25Speaker 1: a number. It's a trust score, and you are in
- 42:28Speaker 1: control of it. You can't control a lot of things,
- 42:30Speaker 1: but you can control that. So a good credit score
- 42:34Speaker 1: where lawyer costs a capital right, it leads to freedom.
- 42:37Speaker 1: All money is freedom. It leads to options, it leads
- 42:41Speaker 1: to personal dignity, or it gives you personal dignity. What
- 42:43Speaker 1: I'm telling you gives you personal dignity, not the credit
- 42:45Speaker 1: score or the money itself. I really want you to
- 42:48Speaker 1: have resilience. That's one of my top traits is I
- 42:52Speaker 1: just never give up. I take no for vitamins, over
- 42:55Speaker 1: the round and through it. I'm going to get to it.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Like I'm warning you. Don't get it runner me, don't
- 43:00Speaker 1: get don't get my weight. I'm gonna run you over.
- 43:02Speaker 1: You're gonna get hurt. I'm warning you in advance, please
- 43:04Speaker 1: move aside. I'm coming that way. And if you don't,
- 43:08Speaker 1: then it's on you. I warned you. I am unstoppable.
- 43:11Speaker 1: That has to be your mindset is no. When you
- 43:14Speaker 1: have the power, you don't need to use it. You
- 43:16Speaker 1: don't need to raise your voice flex If you are
- 43:18Speaker 1: who you are, then the world will know it soon enough.
- 43:22Speaker 1: So when you're resilient, you understand that everyone fails, but
- 43:27Speaker 1: that's not You're not a failure. It's just an outcome
- 43:29Speaker 1: to an experiment. You get up and you keep moving.
- 43:32Speaker 1: You understand that winners ad just You understand that losers
- 43:37Speaker 1: quit or blame, but winners innovate and reclaim. Can I
- 43:44Speaker 1: get my made? Failure is information, not a ver. Here's
- 43:56Speaker 1: the real question. I want to leave you with. Who's
- 44:00Speaker 1: hunting in your life? Who's skinning? And who's the cook?
- 44:08Speaker 1: And just as important, what role are you actually playing?
- 44:12Speaker 1: And occasionally you may end up playing all three, by
- 44:15Speaker 1: the way, But you want to specialize.
- 44:18Speaker 2: As soon as you reasonably can.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Then look at your circle, look at your village, look
- 44:27Speaker 1: at your posse, look at your group. Who gives in
- 44:30Speaker 1: your circle? You want more of them? Who takes you?
- 44:36Speaker 1: Want less of them? Who drained you? You want none
- 44:39Speaker 1: of them. Yeah, tell folks all the time. You don't
- 44:43Speaker 1: have to go. You'll get the heck out of here.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Let it do not hit you with a dog should
- 44:46Speaker 1: have bit you. Okay, let me stop. Wealth is not
- 44:55Speaker 1: just about money. It's about alignment. That's why I say
- 45:01Speaker 1: nor the noise. You need to move the noise, all
- 45:04Speaker 1: that frictioninat your life. You need alignment. You need to
- 45:06Speaker 1: be efficient so you can go and kill it. Not
- 45:09Speaker 1: kill someone, kill a mission, achieve it. It's about alignment
- 45:16Speaker 1: of people, alignment of roles, alignment of values. I walk
- 45:25Speaker 1: through life consciously oblivious of most things because it just
- 45:27Speaker 1: doesn't matter. I'm very focused, and I'm ruthless about my time.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I'm charitable with money and other things. I'm ruthless about
- 45:35Speaker 1: my time. I can waste my time.
- 45:36Speaker 2: You can't.
- 45:39Speaker 1: High integrity, really important, strong relationships, prime credit, resilience when
- 45:47Speaker 1: things go wrong again, It's about how you manage failures,
- 45:52Speaker 1: not success is going. Shopping is easy, Traveling is easy.
- 45:55Speaker 1: That's while there's stuffle on Instagram and TikTokers, all these
- 45:58Speaker 1: people flashing and fly with all this stuff.
- 46:01Speaker 2: That's why you know it's not real like that. That's
- 46:03Speaker 2: not success.
- 46:03Speaker 1: That's that's the bounty, that's the that's the easy stuff.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Anybody can do that. Anybody can flex and floss and
- 46:10Speaker 1: lisa car and rent a fancy house and all that
- 46:13Speaker 1: kind of stuff and go go shopping.
- 46:16Speaker 2: You a big deal, right? But can you over and
- 46:19Speaker 2: around it? Through it? Can you get to it? Can
- 46:20Speaker 2: you keep going when everybody's falling around you? Can you?
- 46:24Speaker 1: Can you outlast out love outlive out outgive. I mean
- 46:28Speaker 1: that's a bad now, that's a bad dude or a
- 46:31Speaker 1: bad sister. That's making smart sexy. That's power and you
- 46:36Speaker 1: got the power. You don't need to use it. We've
- 46:39Speaker 1: been doing some church today, have we? So this is
- 46:45Speaker 1: how families win, This is how businesses scale. In the
- 46:50Speaker 1: last forty six minutes, I've just outlined it. This is
- 46:54Speaker 1: how wealth is built and kept.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Well.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Wealth is in luck. It's structure, character and discipline. Repeat
- 47:07Speaker 1: it over time, remember that quote inspired by my friend
- 47:11Speaker 1: Tony Wrestler. You make money during the day, you build
- 47:14Speaker 1: wealth in your sleep. By the way, he is a
- 47:17Speaker 1: billionaire owner of the Atlanta Hawks, my business partner and
- 47:20Speaker 1: a couple of ventures, and he is chairman of six
- 47:26Speaker 1: hundred billion dollar company called Area's Management. Wherein my other
- 47:28Speaker 1: friend Mike Graghetti, who's also a billionaire, who is CEO
- 47:33Speaker 1: who introduced me to Tony. There are my two partners
- 47:35Speaker 1: in one of my ventures, and dear friends and their
- 47:37Speaker 1: givers givers, givers, givers with intelligence and rigor and business
- 47:43Speaker 1: plans and all that. And they helped me build a
- 47:45Speaker 1: team for one of my business is one of my
- 47:47Speaker 1: most successful. They made sure I had the right team
- 47:49Speaker 1: around me. I had to go do the work, but
- 47:50Speaker 1: they made sure I had the right team around me.
- 47:52Speaker 1: I believe that I called the James Brown version of
- 47:54Speaker 1: affirmative action. Open the door. I'll get it myself, right,
- 47:58Speaker 1: So I may open the door, but you gotta go
- 47:59Speaker 1: get it. You got to go at it. Nobody nobody
- 48:01Speaker 1: owes you anything.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 48:02Speaker 1: This is not about charity. It's not about a hand out.
- 48:04Speaker 1: It's about a hand up. So once you understand that
- 48:13Speaker 1: wealth isn't luck that It's about structure and character and
- 48:16Speaker 1: discipline repeated over time. Once you understand that, you stop
- 48:20Speaker 1: chasing money. I tell people all the time, the bag
- 48:25Speaker 1: the money, the dollar, the who cares? It's just a
- 48:28Speaker 1: transfer of value. Who cares? Just knock it off. All
- 48:31Speaker 1: this stuff about cryptocurrency and all that stuff, which which
- 48:33Speaker 1: is fine.
- 48:34Speaker 2: But it's just understand all you're gambling.
- 48:37Speaker 1: It's you know, it's it's it's speculation, like it's it's
- 48:40Speaker 1: just computer code.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Right, that's not that's not wealth.
- 48:44Speaker 1: You're the wealth, right, And if you have the right
- 48:48Speaker 1: team around you, you'll make the right analysis on whether
- 48:51Speaker 1: cryptocurrency is for you, whether real estate's just for you,
- 48:53Speaker 1: or whether uh dry cleaning businesses just for you, whether
- 48:58Speaker 1: technology is just for you, whether they're being marriage is
- 49:02Speaker 1: just for you, or being single is just for you,
- 49:03Speaker 1: or being in living in Africa or America or Europe
- 49:08Speaker 1: or its Latin America.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Or Asia, traveling.
- 49:10Speaker 1: All these things will make more sense and you'll make
- 49:13Speaker 1: really good decisions about them.
- 49:14Speaker 2: Where, what, who went and with whom and how.
- 49:17Speaker 1: When you have the right team, then you start building
- 49:23Speaker 1: something that lasts. So here you go, this is it,
- 49:31Speaker 1: This is the drop of the mic.
- 49:32Speaker 2: This is the masterclass.
- 49:34Speaker 1: This is the winning formula for your life. And even
- 49:39Speaker 1: if it's just you doing this, make sure that you
- 49:43Speaker 1: structure yourself so that part of your day, your week,
- 49:47Speaker 1: your month is you being a hunter, you being a skinner,
- 49:52Speaker 1: and you being a cook. And make sure that you
- 49:54Speaker 1: are talking to you in self affirming ways, but honestly.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Because if I don't like me, I'm not gonna like you.
- 50:00Speaker 1: If I don't feel good about me, I'm not gonna
- 50:01Speaker 1: feel good about you. If I don't respect me, don't
- 50:04Speaker 1: expect me to respect you. If I don't love me,
- 50:06Speaker 1: I don't have a clue how to love you. And
- 50:08Speaker 1: here's a big one. If I don't have a purpose
- 50:09Speaker 1: in my life, I'll make your life a living hell
- 50:11Speaker 1: because whatever goes around comes around. You can't give what
- 50:15Speaker 1: you don't have in a blind town, a one eyed
- 50:17Speaker 1: man's king. If you don't know better, you cannot do better. See,
- 50:21Speaker 1: it all comes back to some basic principles. Life is
- 50:24Speaker 1: pretty simple. We sort of just tend to complicate it.
- 50:27Speaker 1: So a success this is the foundation of it. Let's
- 50:30Speaker 1: build on that. And then once you listen to this,
- 50:32Speaker 1: go and talk to your friends, your girlfriends, your eye friends,
- 50:34Speaker 1: your family.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Listen.
- 50:36Speaker 1: They check this out, undissected, unpack it, repack it. Then
- 50:39Speaker 1: go watch and listen to other podcasts I've done through
- 50:42Speaker 1: the Money and Wealth series from twenty twenty five and
- 50:44Speaker 1: then go back to twenty twenty four. I've given you
- 50:46Speaker 1: a library. I've given you an encyclopedia of knowledge that
- 50:50Speaker 1: is a cheat sheet on how I did it, and
- 50:52Speaker 1: what to avoid and what things to ignore and what
- 50:55Speaker 1: things to stop messing with.
- 50:57Speaker 2: I mean a couple pieces of advice.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I would give my ateen your old self and stop
- 51:01Speaker 1: trying to impress somebody you don't want to be like.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Stop trying to be like the six square blocks celebrity.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Who cares there abing people in the world. Why are
- 51:09Speaker 1: you obsessing with one dude from one zip code, a
- 51:12Speaker 1: one girl in the high school.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Middle money and trying to effect podcast network.
- 51:19Speaker 1: You can have high comptem that cast network the radio.
- 51:23Speaker 1: I want you to have high comb and high self or
- 51:25Speaker 1: wherever you listen to your want you to know that
- 51:28Speaker 1: you're enough. So I would stop trying to impress somebody
- 51:31Speaker 1: that I don't want to be like, and I let
- 51:33Speaker 1: I stop letting people abuse my time and waste my time.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Because egos don't fly in packs. You've never seen a
- 51:38Speaker 1: flock of the egos, right. Eagles are high altitude bird.
- 51:42Speaker 1: They're legal, they're not they're not pampas, they're not obnoxious
- 51:45Speaker 1: and not arrogant, but they just they think differently and
- 51:50Speaker 1: they're high out two. Birds are hard to get to,
- 51:52Speaker 1: they're hard to understand, they even hard to see. But
- 51:56Speaker 1: buzzers love packs, and buzzers is a low altitude birds
- 52:00Speaker 1: and buzzes love shooting the eagles when they can't be
- 52:02Speaker 1: like a player if you can player hate and never
- 52:04Speaker 1: player congratulate. And then turkeys got wings and can't even fly.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I did a piece on social media. Go back and
- 52:10Speaker 1: watch that. It's sort of entertaining, but it sort of
- 52:13Speaker 1: brings that topic in the in the in the correct
- 52:17Speaker 1: view pretty quickly. So these are all birds, but from
- 52:20Speaker 1: different categories and different groups. They have different roles, they
- 52:23Speaker 1: have different functions. But you are, if you're listening to
- 52:25Speaker 1: this podcast or watching this, you are my guest, either
- 52:30Speaker 1: an eagle or an eagle in training. And not everybody's
- 52:33Speaker 1: going to understand you. And you can't take everybody with
- 52:34Speaker 1: you I'm out. This is John Hope Rien There's Money
- 52:37Speaker 1: and Wealth and this is my podcast series on iHeartRadio
- 52:41Speaker 1: and Black Effect.
- 52:42Speaker 2: I love you enough to tell you the truth.
- 52:44Speaker 1: You can do anything you want to do in this
- 52:45Speaker 1: world if you apply yourself, and I believe you will
- 52:52Speaker 2: Enjoy your week and make it spectacular.
