- 0:10Speaker 3: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 0:52Speaker 4: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I am Brian.
- 0:54Speaker 5: This is Roger.
- 0:55Speaker 3: This is Greg.
- 0:56Speaker 6: This is Marlena.
- 0:57Speaker 7: Alright.
- 0:58Speaker 4: And that's all we are for this week.
- 1:00Speaker 3: This is the cool kids.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 1:02Speaker 6: The best of us.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Those other slackers. Fuck them guys.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Joan is tired. She had to stay in bed.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Does that equal hungover?
- 1:09Speaker 8: No.
- 1:10Speaker 5: No, she's not hungover. She's just really tired.
- 1:13Speaker 4: She does have many health issues. I'm concerned for her
- 1:16Speaker 4: quite often, as I'm sure all of our listeners are.
- 1:20Speaker 4: But that's usually just when they hear her talk.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Do you mean many health issues like a lot or
- 1:25Speaker 3: as in little tiny ones? That would be cool.
- 1:29Speaker 4: She is a waif of a girl, so maybe she
- 1:31Speaker 4: just has many issues.
- 1:32Speaker 5: Yeah, she's got little problems for her little body. Oh, Lord.
- 1:37Speaker 6: I thought it was so creepy.
- 1:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that.
- 1:41Speaker 4: He can say creepy things about her.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's okay.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Say whatever you want.
- 1:45Speaker 5: That's when I get real close to the market.
- 1:47Speaker 9: All right, moving on.
- 1:56Speaker 4: We will get to this week's geek activities, which for once,
- 1:59Speaker 4: I actually have some.
- 2:00Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:01Speaker 4: It's exciting.
- 2:02Speaker 6: Yes.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I guess if we want to start at the beginning,
- 2:04Speaker 4: if you were listening to the very end of last
- 2:07Speaker 4: week's episode, you'll know what they were. I watched Army
- 2:09Speaker 4: of Darkness and Evil Dead 2.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:12Speaker 5: On VHS, nonetheless.
- 2:13Speaker 4: VHS.
- 2:14Speaker 5: In a big van rolling down the road.
- 2:16Speaker 4: So that ties into at least three of our semi,
- 2:19Speaker 4: probably in and out of consciousness versions. I watched most
- 2:22Speaker 4: of them, actually. So that was pretty awesome.
- 2:24Speaker 5: God, they're so fucking good.
- 2:25Speaker 4: They're fun, and I think I realized it, but Marlena,
- 2:28Speaker 4: you specifically pointed out, damn, that shotgun holds an unlimited
- 2:32Speaker 4: amount of shells.
- 2:33Speaker 5: They do. And it's a double barrel, so you have to, like,
- 2:36Speaker 5: you reload after two shots sometimes.
- 2:38Speaker 4: But he reloads, like, once in the movie and shoots it, like,
- 2:41Speaker 4: 48 times.
- 2:43Speaker 5: And he just digs into his front pocket for the
- 2:45Speaker 5: unlimited amount of shells.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Yeah, which he puts, like... four in there i think
- 2:49Speaker 4: in the beginning yeah yeah he grabs like four or
- 2:51Speaker 4: five like there's still more on the counter i'm like
- 2:53Speaker 4: you better load up buddy there's evil dead coming after you.
- 2:56Speaker 5: You have no idea the dead eyes yeah.
- 2:58Speaker 4: And instead yeah he grabs a couple throws them in
- 3:01Speaker 4: his pocket and then for the rest of the movie
- 3:04Speaker 4: just just loads out of there god.
- 3:06Speaker 5: I mean and it's funny how we watched them out
- 3:08Speaker 5: of sequence we started with army of darkness and then
- 3:10Speaker 5: went back to evil that too Which I am not
- 3:12Speaker 5: a fan of the first one.
- 3:14Speaker 4: See, it's funny because I go the other way. Like
- 3:16Speaker 4: I like the other two and the other two work
- 3:18Speaker 4: as their own thing because they're the same style and
- 3:21Speaker 4: they work as one story. I forgot how much they
- 3:23Speaker 4: tie in like the looking into the future in Evil
- 3:27Speaker 4: Dead 2 of what's going to be Army of Darkness.
- 3:29Speaker 4: I forgot how much that's all tied together. Whereas I'm
- 3:32Speaker 4: actually like still more of a fan of the first
- 3:34Speaker 4: one as, as a horror movie, because that one to
- 3:37Speaker 4: me is almost a straight up horror movie. It's not
- 3:40Speaker 4: because evil dead two is just like, let's remake the
- 3:42Speaker 4: same movie only.
- 3:43Speaker 3: As a comedy.
- 3:43Speaker 4: It is 90% comedy by that.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:44Speaker 4: To me, The first one is just fucking creepy. It's
- 3:50Speaker 4: just a creepy, well-made, low-budget horror movie. And you don't
- 3:54Speaker 4: get that very often. And I think it's got all
- 3:57Speaker 4: the crazy camera tricks and everything and the cheesy special
- 4:00Speaker 4: effects that you get in the second one. but done
- 4:04Speaker 4: straight and done creepy, like, to a level of creepy that, like, still,
- 4:08Speaker 4: I put that up there as one of the most, like,
- 4:10Speaker 4: if people who don't watch many horror movies are just like, man,
- 4:14Speaker 4: I want a scary movie, and they haven't seen hardly anything,
- 4:16Speaker 4: it doesn't work for anybody who listens to us, but for, like,
- 4:19Speaker 4: normal people, I'm like, if I want to mess with them,
- 4:22Speaker 4: watch Evil Dead, because I still think it's one of
- 4:24Speaker 4: the scariest, like, movie like just if you watch like
- 4:28Speaker 4: the tone of it just you know that swing banging
- 4:31Speaker 4: on the wall is fucking creepy you.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Know especially the how how like low budget and yeah
- 4:36Speaker 5: especially grindhouse movies to me had that look of low
- 4:40Speaker 5: budget like the film quality maybe not that good or
- 4:43Speaker 5: the colors are kind of off or whatever, but that's
- 4:46Speaker 5: one thing that, yeah, I agree that it looks low-budget
- 4:50Speaker 5: and gritty in that really creepy sort of way.
- 4:53Speaker 4: It's like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That's what carried the first
- 4:56Speaker 4: Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 4:56Speaker 3: It just looked like.
- 4:57Speaker 5: It could be real.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I mean, this footage is so scary. So, yeah, that's...
- 5:02Speaker 4: To me, I'm still a little... But, you know, there's
- 5:06Speaker 4: a soft spot in my heart for the other two
- 5:08Speaker 4: because they're so much fun, and that's when you get
- 5:11Speaker 4: the chainsaw, and I love the chainsaw edition, so... Yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 4: I mean, I'm definitely a huge fan of the other two,
- 5:17Speaker 4: but I still, I kind of got to stick with
- 5:19Speaker 4: the first one as far as a legit movie. I
- 5:22Speaker 4: still like the first one. It's still, to me, it's
- 5:23Speaker 4: so odd that he just remakes. And the story doesn't
- 5:28Speaker 4: even follow suit, like, within the three movies. Like, it's
- 5:30Speaker 4: weird enough that they changed it up from the first
- 5:32Speaker 4: one to the second one, but even within the two movies,
- 5:35Speaker 4: I'm like, wait. So this girlfriend's totally different than that
- 5:38Speaker 4: girlfriend in the other one. How did it get to
- 5:40Speaker 4: be Bridget Fonda? Except now you're kind of famous and
- 5:42Speaker 4: you can get Bridget Fonda. But it doesn't even match
- 5:45Speaker 4: her hairstyle. There's so much that doesn't match between all
- 5:49Speaker 4: three of those movies. It's the strangest trilogy ever.
- 5:53Speaker 5: And I can say that this goes back to.
- 5:57Speaker 5: Boxer had to warp my brain because I always remember
- 6:00Speaker 5: the skull with the eyeballs.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 5: And I remember, you know, as a kid when you're
- 6:04Speaker 5: at Red Giraffe or wherever and you're in the horror
- 6:08Speaker 5: movie section and, you know, you're not supposed to be
- 6:10Speaker 5: there because you're not old enough and you still think
- 6:12Speaker 5: that that matters when you're a kid. And like looking
- 6:14Speaker 5: at the back of the box when it has the
- 6:17Speaker 5: shot of like Ash being strangled by his own severed hand.
- 6:21Speaker 5: And I remember that that always just scared the shit
- 6:23Speaker 5: out of me. And finally, I can't remember the first
- 6:25Speaker 5: time that I actually watched Evil Dead 2. But of course,
- 6:29Speaker 5: fell in love with it instantly. where he throws his
- 6:32Speaker 5: girl's head in the vice and he's like, you're going down.
- 6:35Speaker 5: I'm just like, this movie is freaking awesome. To the
- 6:37Speaker 5: fact that I had to show my mother. Because, well,
- 6:41Speaker 5: you know, my mom took me to see Aliens and
- 6:42Speaker 5: I thought that was awesome. And I'm like, I know
- 6:44Speaker 5: that she would love this movie. And I sat her
- 6:46Speaker 5: down and we watched Evil Dead 2 together and she's like,
- 6:48Speaker 5: this is great. She's like, thank you, son. I'm like, thanks, mom.
- 6:52Speaker 5: And we bonded and there was sunshine in the background.
- 6:54Speaker 5: But yeah, this is one of those movies that It
- 6:59Speaker 5: was like the beginning of an era, I guess, for me.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Because I think it kind of got me into horror
- 7:03Speaker 5: movies in a way.
- 7:04Speaker 4: It kind of was for me. It was at that
- 7:06Speaker 4: point for me. And it's funny that you mentioned Red Giraffe.
- 7:08Speaker 4: That is where I ended up finding it. Because it
- 7:10Speaker 4: was one of those that became a Red Giraffe. I
- 7:12Speaker 4: think it had been premiered and they had a lot
- 7:14Speaker 4: more cool videos. And then it became a cheesy Red Giraffe.
- 7:16Speaker 4: But they still had a decent cult section. So I
- 7:20Speaker 4: actually went. And it was one of those when I
- 7:23Speaker 4: got to a point where I was... sort of embracing
- 7:25Speaker 4: the geek in me and started like finding all that.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Cause there was all these ones I'd heard of, or
- 7:29Speaker 4: I'd saw pictures of magazines of like the posters, which again,
- 7:32Speaker 4: the posters on, well, all of them are pretty awesome,
- 7:34Speaker 4: but the first two are like jar to me. I
- 7:36Speaker 4: still love that. And one more reason I had the
- 7:38Speaker 4: one sheet for that first one. Cause I think that
- 7:41Speaker 4: is like, one of the best you know images ever
- 7:43Speaker 4: like it really conveys how creepy and messed up that
- 7:46Speaker 4: movie is and and then the second one only goes
- 7:48Speaker 4: even more weird yeah like so yeah because it.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Makes no sense the skull with the island that has
- 7:53Speaker 5: nothing to do with anything in this movie but but
- 7:55Speaker 5: it looks creepy and weird so it fits so yeah
- 7:58Speaker 5: it I think both of those definitely fall into the
- 8:00Speaker 5: video boxes that.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Work for my brain. And, and it did lead me
- 8:04Speaker 4: back in there going, I've seen this box a million times.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Where can I go find that? Cause there were places,
- 8:09Speaker 4: you know, newer places that weren't even stocking that already
- 8:12Speaker 4: because it wasn't cool anymore. They just got the new stuff.
- 8:15Speaker 4: So I didn't go and get one and watched it
- 8:17Speaker 4: specifically because of that, because I knew of the reputation
- 8:20Speaker 4: of it and, and, people had sort of built it
- 8:22Speaker 4: up already even at that point and that was a
- 8:24Speaker 4: long fucking time ago but it almost immediately got sort
- 8:27Speaker 4: of this cult following so it's yeah it's kind of
- 8:30Speaker 4: cool to go back and think about where you started
- 8:33Speaker 4: down that road because yeah it definitely led to a
- 8:35Speaker 4: lot more messed up movies I.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Think everyone in a certain way can kind of go
- 8:39Speaker 5: back and figure out, you know, like, where.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Was I when JFK got shot?
- 8:43Speaker 5: Well, no, where were you.
- 8:44Speaker 4: When you first... When you became a geek.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Yeah, when you first embraced it, when it kind of
- 8:47Speaker 5: smacked you in the back of the head and made
- 8:49Speaker 5: you rent that movie. Like, okay, I'll listen this time.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Definitely. Awesome.
- 8:54Speaker 4: So aside from those, after I got out of the van,
- 8:57Speaker 4: this was much later in the week, I did watch
- 9:00Speaker 4: Midnight Movie, which I don't know if anybody's seen. It's actually, like,
- 9:05Speaker 4: I think 2008. It's pretty recent, actually, but it's... I
- 9:09Speaker 4: don't know. It's one of those I started off thinking, oh,
- 9:12Speaker 4: this is a weird horror movie. Maybe we could watch it.
- 9:14Speaker 4: But by the end, I'm like, if we want to
- 9:15Speaker 4: just find all the faults in it, I sort of
- 9:18Speaker 4: give them give them credit for again. This is a
- 9:21Speaker 4: pretty low budget movie and they do a decent job
- 9:23Speaker 4: with it. It doesn't look terrible. The quality on the
- 9:26Speaker 4: on the film is good. They bring in semi-real actors.
- 9:31Speaker 4: They're not amazing, but everybody does their job and does
- 9:34Speaker 4: it okay. It's almost more the story that I ended
- 9:37Speaker 4: up having bigger issues with. It crosses a lot of
- 9:40Speaker 4: weird lines, whereas... it's real world and then it sort
- 9:43Speaker 4: of crosses into some sort of metaphysical some sort of
- 9:48Speaker 4: fantasy world that i don't know and it and it
- 9:51Speaker 4: crosses those lines without really setting up rules so you're
- 9:54Speaker 4: midway in you're like wait what's going on now this
- 9:57Speaker 4: doesn't make any sense. By the end, it's sort of... No,
- 10:01Speaker 4: it really doesn't even.
- 10:03Speaker 5: What's it about?
- 10:04Speaker 4: It starts off... It's like an old theater, and everybody's
- 10:08Speaker 4: going in there going, oh, this place is falling apart.
- 10:10Speaker 4: This place is terrible. But they're running some... Again, mentioning...
- 10:13Speaker 4: To me, they're running a movie that looks like they're
- 10:15Speaker 4: doing a knockoff of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 10:19Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 4: So you get a whole lot of scenes of stuff
- 10:22Speaker 4: from this fictional movie that they're watching that is very
- 10:25Speaker 4: much wanting to be kind of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre, old...
- 10:29Speaker 4: It's supposed to be one that was made in, like,
- 10:31Speaker 4: the early 70s, and now this is, you know, this
- 10:33Speaker 4: guy who made it eventually went crazy, killed all these people.
- 10:37Speaker 5: Awesome.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Then he broke out of, like, his asylum or died
- 10:40Speaker 4: or whatever the story was. I don't remember, but supposedly
- 10:43Speaker 4: it was this mysterious event at the asylum, and all
- 10:46Speaker 4: these people got killed at the asylum, and then they
- 10:48Speaker 4: haven't played in anywhere in the five years since this
- 10:51Speaker 4: incident happened. This is the first time they're playing.
- 10:53Speaker 5: So you play the movie, you summon the guy who
- 10:55Speaker 5: directed it and.
- 10:57Speaker 2: He's a killer.
- 10:57Speaker 4: You think you're going to bring him out of the woodwork,
- 11:00Speaker 4: which I guess.
- 11:00Speaker 5: It's a new candy man, I guess.
- 11:02Speaker 4: No, because I mean, they go into it like it's
- 11:05Speaker 4: very real world and he's going to, you know, come
- 11:07Speaker 4: back and he, they think there's like a cop that
- 11:09Speaker 4: shows up that night and he thinks the guy's still
- 11:12Speaker 4: out there and he's waiting for him to show up
- 11:13Speaker 4: because this is the first time they've showed it since then.
- 11:16Speaker 4: So they think they're going to bring this guy out. And,
- 11:19Speaker 4: I don't know. It gets weirder from there. It very
- 11:22Speaker 4: quickly crosses some strange lines into what sort of makes sense,
- 11:27Speaker 4: doesn't make sense. I don't know.
- 11:29Speaker 5: It sounds like a train wreck on the movie.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Does the movie start interacting with the movie? I mean,
- 11:33Speaker 3: does it.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Kind of, yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:36Speaker 4: You enter into a weird area, you're like... okay wait
- 11:39Speaker 4: is he killing people in the theater now or is
- 11:42Speaker 4: this going on in the movie or yeah it's a
- 11:46Speaker 4: big gray area and they don't set it up with
- 11:48Speaker 4: any rules and then even by the end most of
- 11:51Speaker 4: it isn't explained or makes sense in a way that
- 11:53Speaker 4: you're okay with so yeah i don't know i again
- 11:56Speaker 4: they it's not terrible but i don't like the uh
- 11:59Speaker 4: the the way that they uh don't spell all that
- 12:02Speaker 4: out they don't really uh Give you enough to go
- 12:05Speaker 4: on to even make it make sense by the end.
- 12:06Speaker 5: That kind of reminded me of Demons, how they're watching
- 12:09Speaker 5: the movie and then people start turning into demons.
- 12:13Speaker 4: It's along those lines, I'm sure.
- 12:15Speaker 5: That never gets explained.
- 12:17Speaker 4: I'm sure that was, you know, viewed by this guy
- 12:20Speaker 4: somewhere along the way. So, yeah, it very much feels
- 12:23Speaker 4: similar to that.
- 12:24Speaker 8: So.
- 12:26Speaker 3: A much lesser.
- 12:27Speaker 5: Yeah sounds like a fun movie to tear apart though.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Yeah i mean yeah that's the thing i was like
- 12:31Speaker 4: we could watch it i'm sure we'd have many things
- 12:33Speaker 4: to say to go into as far as that plot
- 12:36Speaker 4: line's concerned but you know hey if anybody really wants
- 12:39Speaker 4: us to watch that i don't think it's amazing but
- 12:42Speaker 4: you let us know uh so now we get to
- 12:44Speaker 4: the real movie the big deal uh i went yesterday
- 12:47Speaker 4: and saw piranha.
- 12:48Speaker 5: 3d oh my god how was it Fucking awesome.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Was it? It looks like it is.
- 12:54Speaker 4: It really, and this is where, and I heard somebody
- 12:56Speaker 4: sort of mention this last week, and then I saw
- 12:59Speaker 4: it and I was like, okay, yeah, you're right. The
- 13:01Speaker 4: marketing department at this studio dropped the ball because, I mean,
- 13:06Speaker 4: it only made about $ 10 million, which we'll actually get
- 13:09Speaker 4: to something about it in a little while here, but
- 13:11Speaker 4: to me, it should have been a huge opening had
- 13:15Speaker 4: they marketed it right because we all saw that first
- 13:17Speaker 4: trailer and it was just kind of like, huh piranhas
- 13:20Speaker 4: and it just like a bad because we saw it
- 13:22Speaker 4: at the movie we went to Greg it went to
- 13:24Speaker 4: a it went to a into like just bad CG
- 13:26Speaker 4: fish and like sort of a normal cheesy horror movie
- 13:30Speaker 4: especially with the remakes that are you know coming about
- 13:32Speaker 4: now they all sort of fall into that category You
- 13:35Speaker 4: go there, and supposedly there was a Red Band trailer
- 13:38Speaker 4: that they never played. And even then, I don't think it, well,
- 13:41Speaker 4: I think I watched it at one point. I don't
- 13:43Speaker 4: think it does it justice. This movie, they really should
- 13:46Speaker 4: have played up what this movie is. Because if people
- 13:49Speaker 4: go there, and I'm surprised more people haven't been outraged
- 13:52Speaker 4: by it. Because if you went in expecting that movie
- 13:56Speaker 4: that you saw in the regular trailer, oh my god,
- 13:59Speaker 4: you don't know what you're getting yourself into. This is
- 14:01Speaker 4: a throwback to movies that I have not seen since
- 14:04Speaker 4: the 80s.
- 14:04Speaker 11: Literally.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Literally. It is completely nothing but boobs and blood. There are,
- 14:09Speaker 4: and again, not to go too far into it, but yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 4: there's tons. Of both, really. The amount of naked chicks
- 14:18Speaker 4: in this movie, I haven't seen since like a Hard
- 14:20Speaker 4: Bodies movie or something in the 80s. Like seriously, they
- 14:23Speaker 4: don't make movies where they do that. Now you might
- 14:26Speaker 4: get like the main lead girl might get naked in
- 14:28Speaker 4: a generic sex scene. That's really all you get now.
- 14:31Speaker 4: This is just like fucking non-stop. Gratuitous. There is tons
- 14:35Speaker 4: of that in there.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Do they make use of the 3D?
- 14:38Speaker 4: Yes, they do. Is it good? No, in a couple.
- 14:41Speaker 4: One in particular is pretty impressive. There's sort of a
- 14:44Speaker 4: I believe they referred to it in the credits as
- 14:47Speaker 4: the ballet. You'll know it when you see it.
- 14:50Speaker 5: Oh, it sounds awesome.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Again, that one was more like, for a second, I
- 14:56Speaker 4: thought I was at the IMAX at the Science Museum.
- 14:58Speaker 4: I was just like, huh.
- 14:59Speaker 5: This is nice to look at and kind of....
- 15:05Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 15:06Speaker 4: I don't know what else to explain it as.
- 15:07Speaker 5: Well, it's like all the trailers that I saw were
- 15:12Speaker 5: completely underwhelming.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:13Speaker 5: And I didn't realize. I figured that this is, you know, okay,
- 15:16Speaker 5: Prawn 3D. The first one, you get to see, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 5: people chewed up pretty good.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:20Speaker 5: And I was like, well, are they going to leave
- 15:22Speaker 5: that out? Is it just going to be, you know,
- 15:24Speaker 5: the water bubbles, people thrash, and then you see blood,
- 15:26Speaker 5: and that's it. Until I picked up a Fangoria magazine,
- 15:29Speaker 5: which is the most recent one, I think, and it has...
- 15:32Speaker 5: you know, some of the gorier shots from the movie.
- 15:34Speaker 5: And I was like, I have to see this fricking movie.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Like it's, people are stripped, you know, and I'm like, Ooh,
- 15:41Speaker 5: now I really want to see it because I didn't
- 15:43Speaker 5: want them to cheapen out on the gore factor.
- 15:45Speaker 4: You know, the only thing that one ups, the amount
- 15:48Speaker 4: of boobs in this is, Oh, my God. The gore.
- 15:51Speaker 4: That's what they should have marketed on. Because there is
- 15:53Speaker 4: a huge fan base of people that are like, why
- 15:55Speaker 4: aren't movies like that anymore? Why don't we have these
- 15:58Speaker 4: gory movies? And, you know, Aja put this together. It's like,
- 16:03Speaker 4: I didn't even realize he was as big a fan.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Because a lot of his earlier movies weren't. I mean,
- 16:08Speaker 4: they were more like tension based. They weren't like all
- 16:11Speaker 4: out gore fest.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
- 16:13Speaker 4: This is just... Buckets of blood. I mean, and like
- 16:16Speaker 4: tons of just like.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Gnarly wounds.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Yeah, just shredded bodies, like you said. I mean, there
- 16:21Speaker 4: are some scenes that I was just like, wow, that
- 16:24Speaker 4: is fucking gross.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:26Speaker 3: And awesome. Love it.
- 16:28Speaker 4: So, yeah, they really dropped the ball on the marketing.
- 16:31Speaker 4: They should have been pushing the... oh my God, it's
- 16:34Speaker 4: a girl's gone wild that also runs into the middle
- 16:36Speaker 4: of a blood fest.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Go watch it.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, really, that would have brought people in,
- 16:44Speaker 4: and the market that I think, you know, they should
- 16:47Speaker 4: have been looking for, and instead they were just like, hey, look,
- 16:49Speaker 4: it's a 3D horror movie. They were pushing the 3D
- 16:51Speaker 4: more than anything, and to me, that's the most underwhelming thing.
- 16:54Speaker 4: I didn't hate the fact that it was 3D, but
- 16:56Speaker 4: to me, I put it more along the lines of
- 16:58Speaker 4: like the Final Destination one, where there were scenes where
- 17:02Speaker 4: I was like, it's okay. I get the, they definitely
- 17:05Speaker 4: make use of the gag many a time, but I
- 17:07Speaker 4: was like, for the most part, I was like, it's
- 17:09Speaker 4: not really that impressive. I didn't, I wasn't impressed with
- 17:11Speaker 4: the depth, you know, where like the, the, my bloody
- 17:15Speaker 4: Valentine that I was impressed with that, like even something
- 17:19Speaker 4: like Coraline, like there was tons of like depth and
- 17:22Speaker 4: you really got into like every scene. You felt like
- 17:24Speaker 4: it made use of that.
- 17:25Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Whereas this one was more like, eh, okay, I get it.
- 17:28Speaker 4: I mean, there's a little depth to it, but I just,
- 17:30Speaker 4: I was not overwhelmed by the 3d. I was overwhelmed
- 17:34Speaker 4: by the awesomeness of the gore and the storyline that
- 17:39Speaker 4: they just don't do anymore. They don't set something up
- 17:41Speaker 4: that's just like, hey, here's a whole bunch of naked
- 17:43Speaker 4: chicks and blood. And people complain that they don't do that.
- 17:47Speaker 4: So why they didn't market it that way is such
- 17:50Speaker 4: a mistake. And I did have a little fallback of my, oh, yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Elizabeth Shue.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Oh, Elizabeth Shue.
- 18:00Speaker 4: That year that I went and saw Adventures in Babysitting.
- 18:02Speaker 4: It kind of came back. I haven't paid that much
- 18:05Speaker 4: attention to her. Even in her dramatic little comeback there
- 18:08Speaker 4: in the 90s, I didn't really pay that much attention.
- 18:11Speaker 5: I think the last thing I saw her in was
- 18:12Speaker 5: The Saints.
- 18:15Speaker 4: That was kind of, yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 5: I haven't seen her since, really.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Wasn't she leaving Las Vegas?
- 18:19Speaker 6: Yes.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Yeah, that was her big Oscar caliber role. So she
- 18:22Speaker 4: had that comeback. And then, well, that's the thing. I'm
- 18:25Speaker 4: looking at her now, and I'm looking at her on
- 18:27Speaker 4: the big screen, and I'm like, She looks amazing. Once again,
- 18:30Speaker 4: she has held up and, once again, doesn't look like surgery.
- 18:34Speaker 4: It looks like she just aged amazingly well because she
- 18:37Speaker 4: looks great.
- 18:38Speaker 3: She was in Hamlet 2. I think I mentioned that.
- 18:41Speaker 4: That's right.
- 18:41Speaker 3: She plays herself.
- 18:43Speaker 4: As like a nurse now.
- 18:44Speaker 3: She's a nurse and she gave up on Hollywood. That's interesting.
- 18:49Speaker 3: The movie's about making a high school play, a high
- 18:53Speaker 3: school play. and um she's yeah she's a nurse and
- 18:57Speaker 3: she hates the whole hollywood thing and intentionally got away
- 19:00Speaker 3: but she was great in it she did a fantastic
- 19:02Speaker 3: job it's it's fun to watch that's.
- 19:05Speaker 4: A good movie yeah that was that was good in
- 19:07Speaker 4: this too i i didn't know what to expect especially
- 19:09Speaker 4: with her being sort of the lead and the lead
- 19:12Speaker 4: action and she kind of kicks ass i mean she
- 19:14Speaker 4: really she she steps up when she needs to and
- 19:16Speaker 4: kind of pulls off the action scene so.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Well, so it's a win. It's a two thumbs up,
- 19:20Speaker 5: you would say?
- 19:20Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 19:21Speaker 5: I definitely want to see it just from your take.
- 19:24Speaker 5: It sounds awesome.
- 19:25Speaker 6: I've heard someone say that they were disappointed the most
- 19:28Speaker 6: at the piranha scenes. It would just, like, the piranhas
- 19:31Speaker 6: would come and attack, and then it would just show, like,
- 19:33Speaker 6: blood and water and not show the piranhas.
- 19:35Speaker 4: No. I mean, again, the CGI is not amazing. It's
- 19:40Speaker 4: obviously CGI. It's a little better than I got from
- 19:44Speaker 4: that trailer that we watched, Greg. I saw in that
- 19:47Speaker 4: trailer something that was like sci-fi channel worthy. This seems
- 19:51Speaker 4: a little better than that. I mean, it's a whole
- 19:53Speaker 4: lot of close-up shots of the fish underwater. The attack
- 19:56Speaker 4: scenes you don't see as much. I mean, it's more
- 19:58Speaker 4: impressive when the people come out of the water because
- 20:01Speaker 4: then it's practical effects and it's fucking awesome. But in
- 20:03Speaker 4: the water, it is a lot of just swarming around
- 20:06Speaker 4: and blood. So you don't get a ton of that
- 20:09Speaker 4: while they're in the water. But they do a lot
- 20:11Speaker 4: of like... fixed shots on the fish as they're swimming
- 20:14Speaker 4: underwater and that you can actually see them and you
- 20:16Speaker 4: can see what's going on the attack scenes underwater yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Do they have kind of like that i guess i
- 20:21Speaker 5: i don't know what i'd call it maybe the the
- 20:22Speaker 5: history channel feeding cam where you know when they're like
- 20:26Speaker 5: oh well the the feeding happens the prawn and they'll
- 20:28Speaker 5: put meat or something in the water and they'll show
- 20:30Speaker 5: like Close-up shots of, like, the piranha biting meat off of...
- 20:33Speaker 5: Do you get any of that? Because that.
- 20:35Speaker 3: A little.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Of that, but not too much. I think it's more
- 20:39Speaker 4: of just, like... They really go with the fact that
- 20:41Speaker 4: it's a huge school of fish, and they're just swarming
- 20:44Speaker 4: you once it starts, so... It's a lot more of that.
- 20:46Speaker 5: Devouring, like, some capybara.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So, yeah, if.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Again, I won't recommend it to... Normal people, but I'm
- 20:53Speaker 4: assuming normal people probably aren't listening to us. So if
- 20:56Speaker 4: you're the kind of person who misses that in movies
- 20:59Speaker 4: and really does love the gore, it's definitely worth it.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I mean, and so much of it is dumb.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 21:06Speaker 4: But the awesome level of dumb, and you get these
- 21:08Speaker 4: characters that are completely... Just asinine, but they're also played
- 21:13Speaker 4: by people you don't mind being complete. Yeah, you've got.
- 21:17Speaker 5: I know Vig Rames is in it, right?
- 21:19Speaker 4: Vig Rames is actually... He's all right. He doesn't have
- 21:21Speaker 4: a ton of screen time, but he's pretty... He's cool
- 21:24Speaker 4: because he's Vig Rames. But what's the fucking stand-by-me, the
- 21:28Speaker 4: fat kid?
- 21:29Speaker 3: O'Connell?
- 21:30Speaker 4: Yeah, Jerry O'Connell. Oh, yeah, Jerry O'Connell's in it. Jerry
- 21:32Speaker 4: O'Connell's in it, and again, I kind of forgot he
- 21:35Speaker 4: was in it until he comes on screen. He is
- 21:36Speaker 4: a jackass.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Forgot where he was.
- 21:39Speaker 4: But... He, you know, it's one of those, well, I
- 21:42Speaker 4: kind of feel like he probably is a jackass a
- 21:44Speaker 4: lot of times. So you really buy him as this
- 21:46Speaker 4: character because this guy is terrible. But like, it's not
- 21:49Speaker 4: like he's doing a terrible job at it. He's doing
- 21:52Speaker 4: a great job of being this horrible person. So you're,
- 21:55Speaker 4: you know, it'd be different. Yeah, it'd be different if
- 21:57Speaker 4: he was just doing a horrible acting job. No, I
- 22:00Speaker 4: buy him as this terrible person because I'm afraid it's
- 22:03Speaker 4: kind of a shade, you know, too close to who
- 22:05Speaker 4: he might really be.
- 22:06Speaker 3: You know, in Can't Hardly Wait. yeah when he plays
- 22:10Speaker 3: the college guy.
- 22:11Speaker 4: He's that guy he's that guy turned up.
- 22:13Speaker 3: An extra notch or two house he's definitely a douchebag
- 22:16Speaker 3: in that it seems.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Natural yeah that's what it's right there he is that
- 22:20Speaker 4: douchebag only if you gave him a lot of money.
- 22:22Speaker 5: And he fell off the face of planet two i
- 22:25Speaker 5: don't know the last thing he's ever.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Done he married that he married um.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Yeah, Rebecca Romaine.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 22:32Speaker 5: Yeah, Stamos is old.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Stamos? Really?
- 22:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Rebecca Romaine. He probably doesn't get to leave now.
- 22:38Speaker 4: He's busy now. He doesn't have time for movies. But yeah,
- 22:42Speaker 4: he's a jackass. And then you get a nice little
- 22:44Speaker 4: cameo from Eli Roth.
- 22:46Speaker 5: He's always a jackass always.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Seems kind of like a jackass and is never known
- 22:50Speaker 4: well in few acting jobs he's had hasn't been known
- 22:53Speaker 4: for being a great actor right and he doesn't disappoint
- 22:57Speaker 4: here but man does he play a douchebag and he
- 23:01Speaker 4: plays it well so once again it's like you're kind
- 23:03Speaker 4: of you're like haha you can laugh at him at
- 23:05Speaker 4: this point you.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Kind of get what you want yeah you definitely.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Get what you want with him so it's yeah those
- 23:10Speaker 4: are fun and yeah i won't pretend like any of
- 23:12Speaker 4: it's like well plotted out, you know, characters or anything. But,
- 23:16Speaker 4: I mean, you get to where at least you like
- 23:18Speaker 4: the main characters that you're there with. You like Elizabeth Shue,
- 23:20Speaker 4: her son, you know, gets into the whole, it's almost
- 23:22Speaker 4: like a Jaws 2 scenario where the kids are stuck
- 23:25Speaker 4: out there and we've got to go save them, so.
- 23:27Speaker 4: It's that scenario. And you like the kids. You like
- 23:30Speaker 4: the Elizabeth Shue. That's really all you care about. Everybody
- 23:34Speaker 4: else can die and does. And there's an awesome cameo
- 23:37Speaker 4: from Christopher Lloyd.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Oh, nice.
- 23:39Speaker 4: That I had to stifle the laughter. He has gotten
- 23:43Speaker 4: to the point of playing a caricature of himself, playing
- 23:46Speaker 4: other characters at this point. Oh, my God. He delivers
- 23:49Speaker 4: a line that is so hilarious. And I don't know
- 23:52Speaker 4: if it's meant to be. I mean, I guess this
- 23:54Speaker 4: is a pretty campy movie, so... It's probably meant to
- 23:57Speaker 4: be that funny, but oh my God, I almost just
- 23:59Speaker 4: bursted out laughing.
- 24:01Speaker 3: I went myself.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Oh my God, it's so funny. And he delivers it
- 24:04Speaker 4: so semi-serious, as much as he delivers anything serious.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Well, that's awesome. So I guess they're just pulling actors
- 24:10Speaker 5: that have been gone for a while back out into the...
- 24:12Speaker 5: Because where has Christopher Lloyd been?
- 24:14Speaker 4: You've got cameos for him. You've got that Richard Dreyfuss cameo.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Richard Dreyfuss? Oh my God, that's awesome.
- 24:19Speaker 4: He's basically playing the same guy as Jaws, only they
- 24:23Speaker 4: don't name him that because then they'd get sued. So basically,
- 24:25Speaker 4: it's just one of those... It's a joke for the
- 24:27Speaker 4: people watching the movie more than anything.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Sounds perfect.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a hell of a lot of fun.
- 24:33Speaker 5: That's all I have to say. I definitely want to
- 24:35Speaker 5: see it.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Slap that on the video box when it comes out.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Well, I don't know if I said on the show
- 24:39Speaker 5: last week when I was at work, one of my
- 24:44Speaker 5: tables was talking about The Expendables and how amazing it was.
- 24:49Speaker 5: And I've got, well, I've got a friend who's, he's
- 24:52Speaker 5: not like a film Nazi, but he definitely, he's very opinionated,
- 24:56Speaker 5: likes and hates, likes what he likes, hates what he hates.
- 24:58Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 24:59Speaker 5: This is a movie I wouldn't see him liking, and
- 25:01Speaker 5: he's seen it twice in the theater. So I was like, oh, wow.
- 25:04Speaker 4: I've heard pretty mixed reviews. I've heard when it delivers
- 25:07Speaker 4: the action, it does a good job, but the rest
- 25:10Speaker 4: of it's a little lacking. But again, you're kind of
- 25:13Speaker 4: there for it to blow shit up.
- 25:15Speaker 5: I think I'll like that. We need to get into
- 25:18Speaker 5: the movie theater and see something because we haven't seen
- 25:20Speaker 5: anything in the theater in a while.
- 25:21Speaker 4: We've got plans for that.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Okay, good. Excellent.
- 25:23Speaker 4: We can get to that.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Help us.
- 25:28Speaker 4: But yeah, that was it for me. So if we
- 25:29Speaker 4: want to transition there into your goings.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Let me see. We didn't, you know, working all week,
- 25:35Speaker 5: we didn't really have that much geek activity besides. She
- 25:40Speaker 5: had seen it before and.
- 25:42Speaker 5: And I'd always want to see it, but was always
- 25:44Speaker 5: kind of skeptical just because of how the series went.
- 25:47Speaker 5: Day of the Dead, the remake of Day of the Dead.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Oh, the remake.
- 25:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:51Speaker 3: That's different.
- 25:52Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 25:53Speaker 5: And, you know, because, I mean, I love the original
- 25:55Speaker 5: Day of the Dead. You know, it's awesome for as
- 25:59Speaker 5: kind of terrible as it is. But I like how
- 26:01Speaker 5: they went with it where it's basically after Dawn of
- 26:04Speaker 5: the Dead. You know, it's the continuation of that. where
- 26:07Speaker 5: the remake is kind of, you know, yet again, another
- 26:10Speaker 5: re-envisioning of the outbreak and how it starts.
- 26:12Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 8: And.
- 26:14Speaker 5: And I don't really agree that zombies now crawl on
- 26:17Speaker 5: the ceilings like spiders out of the blue.
- 26:21Speaker 4: You don't know.
- 26:22Speaker 5: That makes no sense whatsoever. And Nick Cannon being in
- 26:25Speaker 5: this movie.
- 26:25Speaker 4: That doesn't help anything.
- 26:27Speaker 3: That doesn't help.
- 26:29Speaker 5: But I will say that the special effects, the gore
- 26:32Speaker 5: is really good in it. Vig Rames, yet again, is
- 26:34Speaker 5: in it.
- 26:35Speaker 4: Which is weird because he's in the last one, but
- 26:39Speaker 4: he's playing a different character. I'm like, now who set
- 26:41Speaker 4: up the casting there? That's just retarded.
- 26:43Speaker 5: And I wish they would have made it a continuation,
- 26:45Speaker 5: because I liked how the original Day of the Dead
- 26:47Speaker 5: started with the dead roaming the streets of decimated cities.
- 26:52Speaker 5: I thought that was awesome. Vic Ramsey, he was awesome.
- 26:56Speaker 5: He gets, of course, attacked, but then he becomes this
- 26:59Speaker 5: zombie that pulls out his own eye and eats it.
- 27:02Speaker 5: And he is missing his leg, so he's crawling around
- 27:05Speaker 5: for the moment that he's on screen. But he's pretty
- 27:07Speaker 5: awesome just as him. And there is the throwback to Bud, right?
- 27:12Speaker 5: yeah which how they deal with this is a bub
- 27:15Speaker 5: yeah i think it's bub bud bud so we don't
- 27:18Speaker 5: get called yeah um and you know they introduce the
- 27:22Speaker 5: character he's a normal guy blah blah blah and then
- 27:24Speaker 5: he gets turned and for no reason whatsoever he doesn't
- 27:27Speaker 5: turn fully and becomes this semi you know and i'm
- 27:30Speaker 5: like ah i get it this is.
- 27:32Speaker 4: The vegetarian storyline didn't it have one of those no
- 27:36Speaker 4: i don't think so which one was that oh that
- 27:38Speaker 4: sounds terrible one of them had a A plot line like...
- 27:42Speaker 4: They wouldn't... Yeah, they wouldn't... They were zombies that wouldn't
- 27:45Speaker 4: eat people. I don't know.
- 27:47Speaker 3: There was.
- 27:48Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 27:48Speaker 10: Oh, God.
- 27:48Speaker 4: There was some sort of weird vegetarian, but... Okay, we'll
- 27:51Speaker 4: skip that one. I couldn't remember.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Oh, that sounds terrible.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I'd heard such bad... I haven't made it
- 27:55Speaker 4: through this. When I started watching this one, like, I
- 27:57Speaker 4: got about 20 minutes in, and I think I went
- 27:59Speaker 4: to sleep or something.
- 27:59Speaker 5: It's just like that gimmick that, hey, what if? And
- 28:02Speaker 5: it's like, it shouldn't have gone past that.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Yeah, okay.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Vegan zombies.
- 28:06Speaker 5: So, the only thing I can say is that, you know,
- 28:08Speaker 5: it was... the special effects the gore is good but
- 28:12Speaker 5: the whole the rest of the movie is garbage but
- 28:14Speaker 5: she god love her she's like Nick Kano's in it
- 28:17Speaker 5: I think it's awesome and I'm like yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 4: It's not no it's not.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Whatever she's sick so yeah in my head I can
- 28:25Speaker 3: pick on you.
- 28:28Speaker 4: That's one of those they drop the ball on again
- 28:30Speaker 4: yeah you had the remake of Dawn of the Dead
- 28:32Speaker 4: like I'll be the first to bitch about remakes they
- 28:35Speaker 4: did an amazing job on that I mean there's there's
- 28:37Speaker 4: so many good things about that movie So how do
- 28:40Speaker 4: you go from a theatrically released awesome movie to this
- 28:44Speaker 4: straight-to-DVD piece of crap that had Nick Cannon in it?
- 28:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Like, who was in charge of that? Because that's wrong.
- 28:52Speaker 5: You know, and then that's when the whole series, you know,
- 28:54Speaker 5: and even when Romero came back and did Dire the Dead, that...
- 28:58Speaker 5: I could not tell that it was, it was such
- 29:00Speaker 5: a flaming piece of shit. And then when, at the end,
- 29:02Speaker 5: when I saw that Romero, I was like, are you
- 29:04Speaker 5: kidding me? Like you should stop. Like really, you should
- 29:07Speaker 5: stop making movies. Cause this was a lot of fricking terrible. Um,
- 29:12Speaker 5: so I think it's kind of like the remake of
- 29:13Speaker 5: Dawn of the dead. It came, it stayed, it went
- 29:16Speaker 5: and they should have stopped.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:18Speaker 5: And all the other, the deads or whatever afterwards to
- 29:21Speaker 5: just fricking crap. But, uh, other than that, because I'm
- 29:25Speaker 5: getting excited for the, uh, Resident Evil Afterlife to come out.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Started watching, you know, Resident Evil movies to get geared
- 29:37Speaker 5: up for it. I love Wes Anderson. I love him directing.
- 29:40Speaker 5: the first one and writing the other two. And then,
- 29:43Speaker 5: you know, I was like, oh, well, I've got another
- 29:44Speaker 5: one of his movies, so I'll just pop that in,
- 29:46Speaker 5: which is Event Horizon, which Event Horizon is a Gorgeous movie.
- 29:51Speaker 5: The story, you know, some things I don't like about it,
- 29:54Speaker 5: but visually it's fricking phenomenal. It's so fucking awesome. And
- 30:00Speaker 5: watching the behind the scenes of, you know, everything they
- 30:02Speaker 5: went through to make the sets and blah, blah, blah.
- 30:06Speaker 5: Really interested in start watching that again. Um, I just
- 30:09Speaker 5: love Wes Anderson, especially since he's married to Mila Djilovic now.
- 30:12Speaker 5: He's basically my hero.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Is that his middle name? Isn't he like Paul W.S.
- 30:17Speaker 5: I think it's Wes or Wise Anderson.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Because Wes Anderson also makes the.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Oh, okay. No, you're right.
- 30:25Speaker 5: I'm mixing the two. It is Paul W.
- 30:27Speaker 3: WS.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 30:28Speaker 14: Yes.
- 30:29Speaker 6: I was confused about that.
- 30:30Speaker 5: I was like, I'm confusing everybody.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Yeah. I was like, Wes Anderson is like the art
- 30:35Speaker 4: house crowd. Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 5: This is the other opposite of the opposite. Because, you know,
- 30:40Speaker 5: he did Mortal Kombat and, you.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Know, that's his market.
- 30:43Speaker 3: That's his market.
- 30:45Speaker 5: But, you know, I'm trying to get geared up for
- 30:47Speaker 5: the new Resident Evil just because I've always loved that series. And,
- 30:51Speaker 5: you know, no one can say anything to me otherwise.
- 30:53Speaker 5: I know what the movies are. Look, I've loved the
- 30:56Speaker 5: video games since they freaking came out. So, you know,
- 30:58Speaker 5: I'm on board regardless. And Mila Jovovich, I'm still on board.
- 31:03Speaker 5: And let me see who else is in it.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 5: God, what's her name?
- 31:07Speaker 4: What's her face?
- 31:09Speaker 15: Allie Lauder.
- 31:09Speaker 5: Allie Lauder, which I love. And so I'm going to
- 31:12Speaker 5: be there, which, you know, Joni is also stoked. We're
- 31:15Speaker 5: going to be there 3D.
- 31:16Speaker 4: I think they finally realized, like it took them this third,
- 31:20Speaker 4: like they were banking on Mila from day one, but
- 31:21Speaker 4: then they finally realized. Hey, these geek guys that keep
- 31:24Speaker 4: watching these zombie movies also like these girls that we
- 31:27Speaker 4: keep putting in all these movies.
- 31:28Speaker 7: Right.
- 31:28Speaker 4: So, like, I realized, like, in the third one, that's
- 31:30Speaker 4: probably why they didn't kill Allie Larderoff.
- 31:32Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Because they were like, huh, I wonder if we can
- 31:34Speaker 4: get her back for another one. Let's let her live.
- 31:36Speaker 3: She's not doing anything.
- 31:37Speaker 4: So now it's like, yeah, it's like two for one.
- 31:39Speaker 4: You've got, you know, two geek favorites in the next one.
- 31:42Speaker 5: She doesn't look like a Claire Redfield, but, you know...
- 31:45Speaker 5: just put some hot chick and make her claire redfield
- 31:48Speaker 5: and all of us geeks that have loved the game is.
- 31:50Speaker 4: Like fucking claire right on good enough i like her
- 31:52Speaker 4: let's go yeah.
- 31:54Speaker 5: So um i think that's like the extent of our
- 31:57Speaker 5: geek activities uh working to the bone is not very
- 32:01Speaker 5: geeky so no yeah we're gonna end it on that
- 32:03Speaker 5: note all right.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Oh this week we actually just got my wife and
- 32:07Speaker 3: i were just talking about resident evil this morning my
- 32:09Speaker 3: kids are becoming gamers. Six and four. Not that they
- 32:14Speaker 3: were going to let them play Resident Evil, but we
- 32:16Speaker 3: were talking.
- 32:17Speaker 16: About how my roommate and I, we would all trade off,
- 32:21Speaker 16: it was another game with the original Resident Evil, and
- 32:24Speaker 16: I guess it was two, and we would sit and
- 32:26Speaker 16: we'd actually put the speakers on either sides.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Of us, turn off the lights, and give ourselves heart attacks.
- 32:31Speaker 3: So we were reliving those days. Today, saying we've got
- 32:35Speaker 3: to get the one for the Wii so that we
- 32:37Speaker 3: can scare the crap out of ourselves.
- 32:39Speaker 5: That's such good times.
- 32:40Speaker 3: But make sure the kids are locked in bed before
- 32:42Speaker 3: we ever start it.
- 32:43Speaker 4: You don't need them wandering out going, Mommy!
- 32:46Speaker 3: If they had a nightmare, now we'll give them a
- 32:49Speaker 3: real nightmare.
- 32:49Speaker 4: That nightmare was nothing. Watch this.
- 32:52Speaker 3: But anyway, that's not part of my week, I suppose.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Sure it is. This is probably the most geeky thing
- 32:59Speaker 3: that I did. I watched Nerdcore Rising.
- 33:03Speaker 10: What?
- 33:03Speaker 4: It's pretty geeky.
- 33:04Speaker 3: What is that? It's about nerdcore rap.
- 33:09Speaker 12: Wow.
- 33:09Speaker 5: I know what it is.
- 33:10Speaker 3: I know what it is. It's highly technical stuff. They
- 33:15Speaker 3: are fantastic. But this is the originator, MC Frontalot. It's
- 33:20Speaker 3: about him and his first national tour. It's the documentary
- 33:24Speaker 3: of it.
- 33:24Speaker 6: Wow.
- 33:25Speaker 3: And this guy's good. That's all I can say. Musically... Lyrically,
- 33:32Speaker 3: he is on point, and then when they get in
- 33:36Speaker 3: the hotel room where they're talking with him, he's the
- 33:38Speaker 3: biggest geek in the world. To the point of his
- 33:43Speaker 3: nervousness drives backaches and pains. You can tell he's probably
- 33:49Speaker 3: borderline agoraphobic. It's a good little thing. It's one of
- 33:56Speaker 3: those things where you're like, with real... Real nerds, real geeks,
- 34:02Speaker 3: you can at the same time be, wow, I wish
- 34:07Speaker 3: I could be more like that, but God, I'm glad
- 34:10Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 34:10Speaker 4: I think we all play that game.
- 34:14Speaker 3: I'm not like that part of him, but I could
- 34:16Speaker 3: admire that part of him.
- 34:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:20Speaker 3: It's definitely a good place to to realize wow i'm
- 34:23Speaker 3: i'm a lot more like normal society than these people are.
- 34:26Speaker 5: But well it's like i think the first time i
- 34:28Speaker 5: ever heard nerdcore rap was of course on g4 some
- 34:32Speaker 5: of their snippets in between and had like you know
- 34:35Speaker 5: some white guy rapping about what systems he has and
- 34:38Speaker 5: blah blah this and the other thing and that's when
- 34:40Speaker 5: i kind of like you know i was talking to
- 34:42Speaker 5: somebody about it and like oh yeah and i was
- 34:44Speaker 5: like oh really like I guess it's cool because it's
- 34:46Speaker 5: a completely untouched kind of market. I don't know if
- 34:50Speaker 5: it is a market, but I'd like to see somebody
- 34:53Speaker 5: like that with the production value of Timbaland or somebody.
- 34:56Speaker 5: Give him a producer that just blows his shit out
- 35:00Speaker 5: of the water because, yeah, technically it's like, well, lyrically
- 35:03Speaker 5: you're there. And what you're saying is blowing my mind
- 35:06Speaker 5: because I don't understand all of it because it's super
- 35:09Speaker 5: nerdy technical stuff.
- 35:11Speaker 4: But but you're working with a casio yeah but i
- 35:13Speaker 4: can get behind it you know i'm like that's pretty
- 35:15Speaker 4: awesome i'm not gonna like buy an album or anything
- 35:18Speaker 4: but i was just like that's all right that's pretty.
- 35:20Speaker 5: Cool yeah get an avenue that the nerds can like
- 35:22Speaker 5: reach into also there kind of.
- 35:24Speaker 6: There kind of is stuff like that i mean there's
- 35:27Speaker 6: um there's this group called skyscraper stereo they rap about
- 35:30Speaker 6: like Old NES systems and stuff.
- 35:33Speaker 3: These guys are like, you know.
- 35:35Speaker 5: Awesome, awesome. Local boys.
- 35:38Speaker 3: But you're right. If you could throw in a higher
- 35:40Speaker 3: production value... They interview a couple of people that are
- 35:45Speaker 3: actually in the rap field and stuff like that. And
- 35:48Speaker 3: there's a couple of guys that are just like, oh,
- 35:50Speaker 3: it's just awful. He has no lyrical talent. And I
- 35:53Speaker 3: know I've listened to enough over my life to say, no.
- 35:56Speaker 5: That's... Just because he's not talking about his homies, bitches, hoes,
- 36:00Speaker 5: how badass he is, money, or anything like that, or
- 36:03Speaker 5: that he's not from the streets, that doesn't mean that
- 36:05Speaker 5: he's got no talent at all.
- 36:08Speaker 3: But just as tight as Rakim would be, just lyrically
- 36:13Speaker 3: understands words and how to put them together, and even
- 36:15Speaker 3: understands beats and how to put... Rakim's time. Oh, yeah.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Probably my best all time, I would say. Rakim's time. Anyway, yeah,
- 36:23Speaker 3: so that was fun. I'll move on. Check it out sometime.
- 36:27Speaker 3: It's definitely a good watch. Then I watched Assault on
- 36:31Speaker 3: Precinct 13, the original Carpenter. I haven't seen it yet.
- 36:35Speaker 3: It's good. Is it good?
- 36:36Speaker 4: I want to work it into the show, really, because
- 36:38Speaker 4: it's one I wanted to go back and watch.
- 36:41Speaker 3: I knew it was an invasion kind of movie. Hey,
- 36:44Speaker 3: it's us against them. We're on an island. Not on
- 36:47Speaker 3: an island, literally, but there's people that can't get out
- 36:50Speaker 3: and can't get away.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Is it supernatural or a horror in any way?
- 36:55Speaker 3: No, it's not.
- 36:55Speaker 4: But it plays on all of those.
- 36:57Speaker 3: At its core, it is a zombie movie. It's about...
- 37:02Speaker 3: People that just don't care anymore. They're completely detached from society.
- 37:06Speaker 3: They don't care if they're going to die. It's like
- 37:10Speaker 3: a blood pact that this gang signs with themselves. They
- 37:14Speaker 3: just go. The gangs never talk. They never say one
- 37:22Speaker 3: word of speech in the entire movie. Oh, wow. And
- 37:25Speaker 3: they're all this coordinated, what are they doing? Why are
- 37:27Speaker 3: they doing this? How do they know to do this?
- 37:30Speaker 3: And it's just, these people are trapped inside of this
- 37:32Speaker 3: old police station. And it's, like I said, it is,
- 37:36Speaker 3: to its core, a zombie movie without having zombies. That's cool.
- 37:40Speaker 4: That's kind of the aspect I want to go back
- 37:42Speaker 4: and watch. That seems fascinating.
- 37:44Speaker 3: It's a good movie. And there's, you know, it drags...
- 37:49Speaker 3: In that 70s drag, you're going to have to commit
- 37:53Speaker 3: to the movie. But it's only like an hour and
- 37:54Speaker 3: a half long. So once it gets to the action,
- 37:57Speaker 3: it's on. And then, speaking of another invasion movie, I
- 38:02Speaker 3: watched the French made Them. Have you seen it?
- 38:07Speaker 10: No.
- 38:08Speaker 3: It sounds awesome, though. It's a French couple who live
- 38:14Speaker 3: in Romania, I believe. And she's a teacher at a school.
- 38:18Speaker 3: is teaching French, and he's a writer, and they live
- 38:21Speaker 3: in an old, like, an old chateau, kind of out
- 38:26Speaker 3: away from town, an hour or so away from town,
- 38:28Speaker 3: and so they're isolated, too, out by themselves, and it's
- 38:33Speaker 3: all about things start happening one night at the house,
- 38:38Speaker 3: and they think that somebody's pranking them, and they think
- 38:40Speaker 3: it's somebody that just steals their car, and it turns
- 38:44Speaker 3: out to be another invasion story, and It actually is
- 38:49Speaker 3: a true story, which is even more creepy.
- 38:51Speaker 6: It kind of sounds like The Strangers.
- 38:52Speaker 4: I was going to say, I think that's what they
- 38:55Speaker 4: based the American version of The Strangers on, was this
- 38:58Speaker 4: French film. It could have been.
- 39:01Speaker 3: Better in a lot of places. To me, since it
- 39:04Speaker 3: was in another language and you're reading it, the subtitles,
- 39:09Speaker 3: it's even more creepy because you don't really know what's
- 39:14Speaker 3: going on as much. It plays on your typical themes.
- 39:19Speaker 3: At the very end, it gets super creepy. But I'm
- 39:27Speaker 3: not going to go into that.
- 39:28Speaker 5: But basically, it's kind of like... is it the strangers
- 39:32Speaker 5: or whatever are the story? A family comes to just
- 39:36Speaker 5: fuck up a family, basically? Is that how it goes?
- 39:39Speaker 5: This is actually local kids. Okay, so kids.
- 39:43Speaker 6: That's what the strangers was, wasn't it?
- 39:45Speaker 3: Just a group of teenagers? Yeah, yes.
- 39:50Speaker 5: And it if i'm interested like that the whole that
- 39:53Speaker 5: that movie i haven't seen but i've heard about and
- 39:55Speaker 5: that just alone seems really really creepy especially because it's
- 39:59Speaker 5: kind of like why are you doing this like what's
- 40:01Speaker 5: the point like You.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Get the why at the end, and it makes it
- 40:05Speaker 3: even creepier.
- 40:07Speaker 4: I've heard pretty good things about them.
- 40:10Speaker 3: So it's fun, and it's another one you turn off
- 40:13Speaker 3: all the lights, you get quiet, you watch it alone,
- 40:15Speaker 3: and you're going to be scared to death. You wear
- 40:17Speaker 3: a diaper. That's it. I'm trying to think if there's
- 40:23Speaker 3: anything else. I'm sure there is, but I'm going to
- 40:26Speaker 3: leave it at that. Keep testing. All right.
- 40:30Speaker 6: Well, I watched....
- 40:33Speaker 3: Boo! You're not gay.
- 40:36Speaker 4: That didn't take long.
- 40:37Speaker 5: Boo! Sorry, go ahead.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 40:41Speaker 6: When I was at the exit in Chicago last week,
- 40:43Speaker 6: It was kind of cool. They were playing Death Race 2000.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Nice.
- 40:45Speaker 5: That's really cool.
- 40:46Speaker 6: Pretty impressive.
- 40:47Speaker 4: This is why you were out partying while we were
- 40:49Speaker 4: asleep last week.
- 40:51Speaker 3: They totally would love it here.
- 40:53Speaker 6: But when everyone went to sleep at 8 o'clock, I
- 40:56Speaker 6: was at the exit drinking $ 5 Miller Lights.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Sucker.
- 40:59Speaker 6: Watching Death Race 2000 and listening to TSOL, which was
- 41:03Speaker 6: pretty fun. And it was, you know, subtitles only, no audio. Sound,
- 41:12Speaker 6: of course.
- 41:13Speaker 5: No, that's not right.
- 41:14Speaker 6: Which would have made listening to, like, old hardcore and
- 41:18Speaker 6: old punk and watching Death Race really confusing and difficult.
- 41:21Speaker 4: That fits perfectly.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Yeah, old hardcore, old punk.
- 41:23Speaker 6: And I've been to the exit before. Last time we
- 41:25Speaker 6: watched Meet the Feebles and Pink Flamingos.
- 41:29Speaker 7: Oh, nice.
- 41:30Speaker 6: They have a really... And they have VHS tapes, too.
- 41:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 41:33Speaker 4: Backwards ex-operation. It's as bad as we are.
- 41:36Speaker 5: We're actually, like.
- 41:39Speaker 6: we were the only people at the exit the time
- 41:41Speaker 6: before last that I went and the bartender was just like, Hey,
- 41:44Speaker 6: here's the movies. You all pick one out. They have
- 41:46Speaker 6: an amazing selection of movies, like right up my alley.
- 41:51Speaker 5: How did you find this on VHS?
- 41:52Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 41:55Speaker 6: Um, but, uh, Let's see, this week I watched the
- 41:57Speaker 6: movie Quills, which is about Marquis de Sade. It's a
- 42:00Speaker 6: really great movie. Could have lived without seeing Geoffrey Rush naked.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:03Speaker 4: That's not what they thought.
- 42:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 42:06Speaker 3: Gross.
- 42:07Speaker 6: He was totally creepy in that movie, but it was
- 42:09Speaker 6: a really good movie.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Give me some Geoffrey Rush.
- 42:12Speaker 5: Wait, what was that?
- 42:15Speaker 4: I heard that.
- 42:16Speaker 6: I missed.
- 42:20Speaker 3: It.
- 42:20Speaker 10: Darn.
- 42:20Speaker 6: But I also watched a couple of episodes. It was
- 42:23Speaker 6: called the... One of them was called The Luck Child.
- 42:26Speaker 6: It was Jim Henson's... It was like this little series for.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Storytellers?
- 42:30Speaker 4: Storytellers, yeah.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good series.
- 42:33Speaker 6: Yeah, it was really interesting.
- 42:34Speaker 4: They did some cool version, and they brought in a
- 42:36Speaker 4: lot of guest stars and stuff on those, didn't they?
- 42:38Speaker 6: I don't think there was anyone in The Luck Child,
- 42:40Speaker 6: but it was really good. It was weird.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like amazing stories, but... It made Jim.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Henson kind of.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Yeah. I was thinking like the storybook. thing where he
- 42:50Speaker 4: did all the fairy tale yeah that's the one they
- 42:54Speaker 4: brought in all the different celebrities.
- 42:55Speaker 6: Yeah i don't think there were any celebrities in this
- 42:57Speaker 6: particular one but uh i think i remember it saying
- 43:01Speaker 6: that it was based on russian fairy tales which i
- 43:04Speaker 6: have actually have a book about russian fairy tales and
- 43:06Speaker 6: those are like crazy the most fucked up fairy tales
- 43:08Speaker 6: ever oh yeah i have to dig that book out
- 43:11Speaker 6: um but yeah really weird some weird.
- 43:13Speaker 5: Stuff the shit they tell your kids is like You're
- 43:16Speaker 5: just really trying to scare the hell out of.
- 43:18Speaker 6: Them, aren't you? Yeah, this book, I stole it from
- 43:20Speaker 6: my library in middle school.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Not in school.
- 43:22Speaker 6: I know. Some of my favorite books.
- 43:26Speaker 5: Clepto nerds.
- 43:28Speaker 6: Some of my favorite books are the ones that I've
- 43:30Speaker 6: stolen unintentionally or intentionally from my middle school.
- 43:33Speaker 3: It fell into my backpack.
- 43:35Speaker 6: From my middle school library. My favorite book of all
- 43:38Speaker 6: time that is so beaten up and dog-eared and has
- 43:40Speaker 6: little stickers and all my favorite poems are... It's a
- 43:44Speaker 6: collection of poetry called Come Hither by Walter Delamere. And
- 43:48Speaker 6: it's funny because it's like, I can't remember how to
- 43:51Speaker 6: play a card game, but I can remember every poem
- 43:53Speaker 6: that I read in seventh grade from this book.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the only one I scammed my version
- 43:59Speaker 4: of illustrated me. That I think I was supposed to
- 44:01Speaker 4: give back to them in grade school. And I was
- 44:03Speaker 4: just like.
- 44:03Speaker 6: I read your version of Illustrated Man.
- 44:05Speaker 4: Yeah, see? There you go.
- 44:07Speaker 5: I remember stealing the.
- 44:08Speaker 4: It's still making use to people.
- 44:09Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 44:11Speaker 5: Do you all remember the Ghost Stories books?
- 44:15Speaker 8: Awesome.
- 44:15Speaker 5: There's like two of them.
- 44:17Speaker 6: Stories. Stories.
- 44:19Speaker 5: Like, what are they called? I can't remember.
- 44:21Speaker 3: I remember.
- 44:22Speaker 6: The scariest stories I ever heard.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:24Speaker 5: And the illustrations are like these incredible... Really creepy ink
- 44:28Speaker 5: drawings on the inside of people's fingers coming off. I
- 44:32Speaker 5: remember those were awesome when I was a kid and
- 44:34Speaker 5: they scared me. And I was like, I want them.
- 44:36Speaker 5: And I took them in their mind.
- 44:37Speaker 6: If you like those, books that I found recently as
- 44:40Speaker 6: an adult that have just amused me to no end.
- 44:42Speaker 6: Alfred Hitchcock put together a few collections of scary stories.
- 44:46Speaker 6: One of them is called Things That Go Bump in
- 44:48Speaker 6: the Night that I have. And another one is Stories
- 44:50Speaker 6: That Scared Even Me. And those are like... There were
- 44:54Speaker 6: some stories in there that were just amazing that blow
- 44:56Speaker 6: your mind. You're like, what the fuck? I remember one
- 45:01Speaker 6: that stuck with me. It's about these weird gelatinous pygmy
- 45:04Speaker 6: things that are chasing these humans through a jungle. And
- 45:09Speaker 6: then there's this point where the humans find the spacecraft
- 45:13Speaker 6: and realize that they're the aliens on Earth. And these
- 45:19Speaker 6: gelatinous pygmy things are like, The Indigenous Creatures to Earth.
- 45:22Speaker 4: Spoiler alert. Sorry.
- 45:25Speaker 6: In case any of you go back in time to
- 45:29Speaker 6: 1965 and find a copy of Stories That Scared Even Me.
- 45:31Speaker 4: You never know.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Scared Me was Shel Silverstein. His stuff is awesome. It
- 45:37Speaker 3: still scares me. Just look at the picture on the
- 45:39Speaker 3: back cover, man.
- 45:40Speaker 5: That guy's creepy.
- 45:42Speaker 4: The poem about the snake.
- 45:42Speaker 6: That guy's a weird dude.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Oh, heck, it's up to my neck.
- 45:46Speaker 5: Yeah. Oh, heck, it's up to my neck.
- 45:48Speaker 3: And his drawings.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Equally.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Flip a kid out. He was a.
- 45:55Speaker 6: Yeah he's on children's authors can rarely be trusted they're
- 45:59Speaker 6: like the most fucked.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Up people yeah i think you're right but.
- 46:02Speaker 5: That's why like you know fairy tales i always thought
- 46:04Speaker 5: that was awesome when i when i was a kid
- 46:07Speaker 5: never really thinking about like how fucked up these fairy
- 46:09Speaker 5: tales were but then you know growing up and realizing
- 46:12Speaker 5: that they're you know of course like stories meant to
- 46:15Speaker 5: like scare kids into like learning things before they're actually
- 46:18Speaker 5: like raped and killed.
- 46:19Speaker 3: And eaten by wolves but.
- 46:21Speaker 5: I just think that's awesome some of the most screwed
- 46:24Speaker 5: up stories you'll ever hear are fairy tales that are
- 46:27Speaker 5: meant for children like.
- 46:29Speaker 4: And i like that and before if you go back
- 46:32Speaker 4: and get like the older versions before they watered them
- 46:35Speaker 4: down at disney yeah now you buy a book of
- 46:37Speaker 4: fairy tales and they're all super homogenized but yeah you
- 46:41Speaker 4: go back and get like those old original versions and
- 46:43Speaker 4: you're like.
- 46:43Speaker 5: Wasn't red riding hood raped by the big bad wolves
- 46:46Speaker 5: or something at one point.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Well and then like it eats everybody everyone but then
- 46:51Speaker 4: by the end they like cut it open and then
- 46:53Speaker 4: like so stones into put stones back in the wolf
- 46:57Speaker 4: stomach and sew it back up i'm like this is
- 46:59Speaker 4: a fucked up story.
- 47:01Speaker 6: If you can find like real grim's fairy tales they're.
- 47:04Speaker 4: Amazing yeah they're nasty yes very strange stuff going on
- 47:09Speaker 4: so anything else for you.
- 47:10Speaker 6: Um probably but i can't think of anything oh.
- 47:16Speaker 5: And i didn't remember but while you're thinking that joanie
- 47:19Speaker 5: and i we bought a copy of death note which
- 47:21Speaker 5: is a japanese anime but the live action version that
- 47:24Speaker 5: they're going to remake in america and i think zack
- 47:27Speaker 5: efron is going to be the lead.
- 47:29Speaker 6: That sounds totally radical.
- 47:30Speaker 5: But yeah we watched the uh japanese live action death
- 47:33Speaker 5: note and it was pretty cool and i wish i'd
- 47:35Speaker 5: gotten the other.
- 47:35Speaker 6: Two this is not related well this is pretty geeky
- 47:39Speaker 6: but this is Every morning, every Wednesday and Friday morning,
- 47:43Speaker 6: I don't ever think to turn the TV on at work,
- 47:46Speaker 6: but someone comes in early and we'll just sit at
- 47:48Speaker 6: the bar and watch TV. So she'll have it on,
- 47:50Speaker 6: and she watches. Like, who wants to be a millionaire
- 47:52Speaker 6: in the morning?
- 47:53Speaker 4: That's kind of scary at this point.
- 47:55Speaker 6: Well, right after that, The View comes on, which I
- 47:58Speaker 6: absolutely can't fucking stand.
- 47:59Speaker 4: That's really great, Aiden.
- 48:00Speaker 6: I put the channel on Price is Right. And I
- 48:03Speaker 6: don't really pay much attention, but by mid-afternoon, all the
- 48:07Speaker 6: soap operas come on. And I don't usually pay attention
- 48:10Speaker 6: to them. I've noticed them more lately because I'll look
- 48:12Speaker 6: up and they're like in this amazing mid-century house with
- 48:15Speaker 6: like mid-century furniture and like, it's crazy. But I've looked
- 48:18Speaker 6: up at the TV several times in the last week
- 48:21Speaker 6: and noticed Eric Roberts on this soap opera. And Patrick
- 48:26Speaker 6: Duffy on another one.
- 48:27Speaker 5: I'm like, what the fuck?
- 48:28Speaker 3: Pay with money.
- 48:29Speaker 5: Yeah, people need paychecks.
- 48:30Speaker 4: People need some work these days.
- 48:32Speaker 3: Especially Eric Roberts. I'd do a soap right now if
- 48:35Speaker 3: you told me.
- 48:36Speaker 14: Fuck yeah.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Hell yeah.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Pay me to cook.
- 48:37Speaker 6: It's just weird like to go so backwards in your
- 48:40Speaker 6: career not like I mean, Eric Roberts did have a
- 48:42Speaker 6: pretty successful career.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Yeah, you go back early to mid-80s, Eric Roberts was
- 48:48Speaker 4: like a leading man. He was pretty much A-list almost.
- 48:52Speaker 6: But it's just funny, and Patrick Duffy on these soap operas,
- 48:55Speaker 6: he was never like top.
- 48:56Speaker 4: Of the line. He was a huge TV star, but
- 48:59Speaker 4: either way, he was nighttime drama, not daytime drama.
- 49:02Speaker 3: He was on that movie with Suzanne Somers where they
- 49:04Speaker 3: got married, or that TV show.
- 49:07Speaker 5: Yeah, Step by Step.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Yeah, see?
- 49:08Speaker 10: Which.
- 49:09Speaker 3: He took the lead there.
- 49:13Speaker 6: He was scuzzled by it.
- 49:14Speaker 4: He was scuzzled. That's the only cool factor he has
- 49:19Speaker 4: at this point. But I was Scuzzlebutt, guys.
- 49:21Speaker 6: Well, he wasn't Scuzzlebutt, but Scuzzlebutt, he was the.
- 49:24Speaker 4: Leg of Scuzzlebutt. He basically, yeah, he was somehow involved
- 49:28Speaker 4: in the existence of Scuzzlebutt. And that makes anybody cool.
- 49:31Speaker 6: But that is just, I've looked up the TV and
- 49:33Speaker 6: I'm like, what? I don't even understand Scuzzlebutt. I can't
- 49:36Speaker 6: tell the difference between any of those soap operas. One
- 49:38Speaker 6: of the guys at work is like, oh, this is
- 49:40Speaker 6: As the World Turns or whatever.
- 49:41Speaker 4: And I'm just like, I was named after.
- 49:43Speaker 6: A soap opera and I don't give a fuck. But
- 49:46Speaker 6: it's confusing for me because when I was younger, my
- 49:48Speaker 6: mom did watch The Young and the Restless. And apparently
- 49:51Speaker 6: all the people from Young and the Restless that I recognize,
- 49:53Speaker 6: I'm like, oh, it's Nick and Sharon. They've all gone
- 49:55Speaker 6: to a different soap opera and they're different people. So
- 49:58Speaker 6: it boggles my mind. I'm like, I don't understand.
- 50:01Speaker 5: Well, I don't like seeing people that were on Battlestar
- 50:04Speaker 5: Galactica on soap operas.
- 50:05Speaker 4: That's not good.
- 50:06Speaker 5: I'm just like, you were Jammer and now you're on what?
- 50:09Speaker 2: Fuck that.
- 50:09Speaker 5: Fuck you.
- 50:12Speaker 6: And there's like, it's really funny because there's this like
- 50:15Speaker 6: one old guy with shaggy hair. He's always shirtless and
- 50:17Speaker 6: he's always banging a different chick. I'm just like, you're old.
- 50:21Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's getting paid for it.
- 50:23Speaker 5: He's got freaking chops though.
- 50:24Speaker 4: That's why people keep working on this. He does have chops.
- 50:27Speaker 6: Do you know what i'm talking about.
- 50:29Speaker 5: No i've been i've been at my mom's house when
- 50:32Speaker 5: she's been watching her shows shut up leave.
- 50:35Speaker 9: Me alone i don't see how anybody watches them i'm
- 50:40Speaker 9: just kind of like the the plots are so like
- 50:43Speaker 9: what mindless and just so intertwined and fucked up everyone's
- 50:47Speaker 9: screwing someone else or fucking someone or money's involved your
- 50:50Speaker 9: babies are being traded i.
- 50:51Speaker 6: Know I don't know what it was, but I was
- 50:53Speaker 6: just watching it for like, and they're on mute. So
- 50:55Speaker 6: I really have no idea what's going on. It's funny,
- 50:59Speaker 6: but I just, I just looked up and, uh, they
- 51:01Speaker 6: were like, like going in on this, uh, showing this
- 51:05Speaker 6: girl's tramp stamp. And then they focused in on this
- 51:07Speaker 6: guy and he, like she had his name like in
- 51:10Speaker 6: a tramp stamp and he had her name.
- 51:12Speaker 17: On his arm.
- 51:13Speaker 15: Classy.
- 51:13Speaker 6: And then they went somewhere and she bent over.
- 51:15Speaker 8: Oh, my God.
- 51:15Speaker 5: And, like, someone... It was another.
- 51:16Speaker 6: And this guy saw it and he was, like... He
- 51:19Speaker 6: had this, like, stricken look on his face, like... Dun-dun-dun.
- 51:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it was.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Dun-dun-dun.
- 51:24Speaker 6: Like, oh, the drama.
- 51:25Speaker 3: What was the one... Oh, my God.
- 51:28Speaker 4: That.
- 51:28Speaker 3: had like witches and midgets and stuff. Passions. I was
- 51:32Speaker 3: wondering about that one.
- 51:33Speaker 6: And a creepy clown.
- 51:34Speaker 5: It was out of the, it did not take itself
- 51:37Speaker 5: seriously at all.
- 51:38Speaker 3: I want to go back and watch that. From hearing
- 51:40Speaker 3: what people said about it, that sounds awesome.
- 51:42Speaker 6: A girl that I work with actually named her son
- 51:44Speaker 6: Julian after that.
- 51:45Speaker 4: Oh, wow. I just can't stand that they can't get
- 51:49Speaker 4: through a scene because everything's so broken up for the drama.
- 51:52Speaker 4: It's like, it takes them a week to get through
- 51:55Speaker 4: one scene. Like they pick up, almost behind where they
- 51:57Speaker 4: left off they're like restating stuff they already said 20
- 52:01Speaker 4: minutes ago i'm like oh i can't watch this it's like.
- 52:02Speaker 5: Trying to get through a fight in dragon ball z
- 52:04Speaker 5: you just you'll never do it it's like.
- 52:08Speaker 3: 15 episodes of that's like trying to get through a
- 52:10Speaker 3: fight but.
- 52:11Speaker 4: It's sad that that's that's true that's like it's these
- 52:14Speaker 4: weird kids shows in japan are like the same yeah
- 52:17Speaker 4: Mentality is our stupid morning, daytime soap operas. It's like,
- 52:21Speaker 4: let's drag this out forever to keep people watching.
- 52:25Speaker 3: Or a pro football game. They stop it and review
- 52:28Speaker 3: and play it again. Maybe everything's like that now.
- 52:31Speaker 4: I guess. You've got to drag it out and keep
- 52:33Speaker 4: people watching.
- 52:34Speaker 3: I'm glad I don't.
- 52:37Speaker 10: What?
- 52:37Speaker 6: You don't like football?
- 52:38Speaker 3: No, I like football. I'm just glad I don't watch
- 52:41Speaker 3: soap operas.
- 52:41Speaker 4: I don't watch any of this crap.
- 52:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 52:45Speaker 4: I'm sticking with my movie.
- 52:47Speaker 6: I like to watch football only if someone takes me
- 52:50Speaker 6: to a restaurant and I can eat food.
- 52:53Speaker 3: You just like to go.
- 52:54Speaker 5: Out to eat.
- 52:56Speaker 4: It's an excuse to eat.
- 52:58Speaker 3: Her name is Marlena. She likes to eat.
- 53:00Speaker 10: This is obvious.
- 53:00Speaker 3: I'm going to watch some football. Are you seriously named
- 53:06Speaker 3: after the chick from our days of our lives?
- 53:08Speaker 6: Is that?
- 53:09Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 53:09Speaker 7: Nice.
- 53:10Speaker 6: And you know, if I was a boy.
- 53:11Speaker 3: My mom would love that.
- 53:13Speaker 6: If I was a boy, my name would be Skylar Whitney.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 53:17Speaker 6: Apparently that was another.
- 53:18Speaker 3: I thought you were going to say Patch.
- 53:19Speaker 5: Wait, Skylar Whitney and then a middle name and then
- 53:22Speaker 5: last name?
- 53:23Speaker 6: No, Skylar Whitney.
- 53:24Speaker 5: Okay.
- 53:25Speaker 6: At first a middle name. I would have probably just
- 53:27Speaker 6: been gay, but.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:29Speaker 6: How can you not be gay with a name like
- 53:30Speaker 6: Skylar Whitney?
- 53:31Speaker 4: Skylar Whitney. I don't know.
- 53:33Speaker 5: Gay. it's okay.
- 53:37Speaker 4: All righty anything else um i think that should round out.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Oh my god is this a four hour episode is
- 53:47Speaker 3: anybody still listening i'm.
- 53:48Speaker 6: Trying to drag it on for as long as i
- 53:50Speaker 6: can obviously.
- 53:54Speaker 4: Gross yeah well we'll take a break and come back with.
- 53:58Speaker 5: What's the love let's take a really long break A
- 54:01Speaker 5: nap and be back. Yeah, right.
- 54:08Speaker 17: Where is your head, Catherine?
- 54:13Speaker 11: Where is your head?
- 54:17Speaker 17: I'm trying hard to escape this constant pull towards it.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Golden, pure, creamery butter. Rich, flavorful, satisfying. That's what it
- 54:30Speaker 1: takes for the finest buttered popcorn, and that's what we use.
- 54:34Speaker 1: See for yourself why there's no showtime treat to equal
- 54:37Speaker 1: the crisp, delicious flavor of hot popcorn that's bathed in
- 54:40Speaker 1: real melted butter.
- 54:42Speaker 4: It's at the concession stand now.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Freeze.
- 54:45Speaker 7: This is the police. Drop your weapons and place your
- 54:47Speaker 7: hands above your heads.
- 54:50Speaker 15: On Saturday, six members of the gang known as Street
- 54:53Speaker 15: Thunder were ambushed by the police. On Sunday, the warlords
- 54:58Speaker 15: of Street Thunder swore a blood oath to avenge their dead.
- 55:02Speaker 15: For the gang called Street Thunder, it is a day
- 55:06Speaker 15: of vengeance. It's war in the streets. It's terror in
- 55:12Speaker 15: the night. It's the most shattering assault on a police
- 55:15Speaker 15: station in history. Assault on Precinct 13.
- 55:17Speaker 5: This is a siege.
- 55:20Speaker 3: It's a goddamn siege.
- 55:24Speaker 15: Precinct 13.
- 55:25Speaker 3: Cut off.
- 55:26Speaker 15: Isolated in the middle of a city as a human
- 55:29Speaker 15: wave of street killers turns the night into a nightmare.
- 55:36Speaker 15: A white-hot night of hate. Assault on Precinct 13.
- 56:02Speaker 2: This is Courtney Gaines, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 56:06Speaker 8: Outlander!
- 56:09Speaker 4: Kill your woman!
- 56:14Speaker 2: Beauty of Ace I love her till the.
- 56:19Speaker 3: End of Ace's head I'm gonna make you a siren.
- 56:30Speaker 2: You're the dream. I've seen your picture in a movie magazine.
- 56:40Speaker 8: Bathory.
- 56:41Speaker 7: Bathory.
- 56:43Speaker 2: How about Jay's Porkins guy?
- 57:05Speaker 3: That was awesome. The big, fat... It was hot.
- 57:09Speaker 5: It was funny because I saw... It was awesome.
- 57:14Speaker 4: That's what we were saying down the hall. We were like, dude,
- 57:18Speaker 4: Porky's doing the dark side?
- 57:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:21Speaker 3: God, he's the fattest... Frickin' oh my god.
- 57:25Speaker 5: And it's almost like the scale was so out of
- 57:27Speaker 5: proportion because he's so big.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Like the helmet was like He should get a Porkins outfit.
- 57:33Speaker 4: People would love him. People would love him if he
- 57:37Speaker 4: was Porkins.
- 57:38Speaker 5: You could almost charge for taking pictures. Like two bucks.
- 57:42Speaker 3: For Porkins. Fucking Porkins.
- 57:46Speaker 8: God.
- 57:48Speaker 3: That would be so much orange.
- 57:51Speaker 5: They had to cut the flight suit in the back
- 57:54Speaker 5: and lay it across him.
- 57:56Speaker 3: He was so big. Was he really? Yeah.
- 57:58Speaker 5: Because they only had like a couple of flight suits,
- 58:01Speaker 5: so they had to cut the one open and just kind.
- 58:03Speaker 3: Of lay it on him. Like, dude, we're going to
- 58:05Speaker 3: have to kill Porgans off because he's too big.
- 58:07Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 58:08Speaker 5: Having a little trouble here.
- 58:10Speaker 3: How did he fit in the seat?
- 58:13Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 58:14Speaker 4: They greased him up beforehand.
- 58:15Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 58:18Speaker 3: He was so awesome.
- 58:19Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 58:20Speaker 3: All right.
- 58:21Speaker 4: We're back with What's the Buzz? Groovy.
- 58:25Speaker 3: Tell me what's happening.
- 58:26Speaker 8: What's the buzz?
- 58:27Speaker 5: Tell me what's happening.
- 58:28Speaker 4: What's the buzz?
- 58:29Speaker 8: Tell me what's happening.
- 58:30Speaker 10: What's the buzz?
- 58:31Speaker 3: What is the buzz?
- 58:35Speaker 6: Buzz is that I'm kind of hungry.
- 58:37Speaker 4: There's a shocker. We always get hungry midway into the show.
- 58:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:40Speaker 6: I tried to.
- 58:41Speaker 5: That's why I have to finish.
- 58:42Speaker 6: I ate a granola bar before I came over here.
- 58:44Speaker 5: I've got some fruit on the bottom.
- 58:45Speaker 3: It's got a pang on it.
- 58:47Speaker 8: Strawberry.
- 58:47Speaker 3: Do you want some? It's good, Marley. There's still some
- 58:50Speaker 3: on the bottom. Yeah.
- 58:52Speaker 4: There's some blueberry on the bottom.
- 58:54Speaker 6: Roger's like, you can eat the fruit off the bottom
- 58:56Speaker 6: of my cup.
- 58:56Speaker 3: No, no, no. It's a fresh one. It's not even open.
- 58:58Speaker 4: It's in the fridge. Sure it is.
- 59:01Speaker 5: I'll take it back then. Screw you.
- 59:06Speaker 6: Thanks for the offer.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you're welcome.
- 59:08Speaker 8: Alrighty.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Other buzz did we record.
- 59:12Speaker 4: So it's fairly standard uh age-old practice for studios to
- 59:15Speaker 4: either limit or completely skip press screenings for movies that
- 59:18Speaker 4: the executives expect will get hammered by the critics That
- 59:22Speaker 4: happened with the Weinstein Company with Piranha 3D. And the
- 59:25Speaker 4: funny and very rare thing that happened is the critics
- 59:28Speaker 4: generally loved it, giving Piranha 3D a 75% on the
- 59:32Speaker 4: infamous tomato meter.
- 59:34Speaker 3: Wow.
- 59:34Speaker 4: Yeah, which is huge, especially for critics. So, yeah, the,
- 59:40Speaker 4: as we mentioned, sexy horror movie about swarming fishies. They
- 59:43Speaker 4: opened to $ 10 million, as we said, but it doesn't
- 59:46Speaker 4: seem like much, but they're saying it also wasn't particularly
- 59:49Speaker 4: expensive to make. The budget was $ 24 million.
- 59:52Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 59:53Speaker 4: So I'm sure, especially by the time it hits DVD,
- 59:55Speaker 4: it's going to make a decent amount of profit, especially
- 59:58Speaker 4: if it goes overseas, and they always.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: Make tons of money overseas. I'd say we'll get a
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: two out of it then, if you... Yeah, if it
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: only costs that much to make, we'll get a two.
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: That's where they're going.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: I want to see Flying Piranha.
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: Oh, the spawning.
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: The spawning.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: So, yes, as it says, the Weinstein Company producer Mark
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: Cannon and director Alexander Aja are already talking about plans
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: for a fourth movie in the franchise, although this one
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: had not... Well, I mean, there was already one and two,
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: so I guess they're... Which it's not. It's not a continuation.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: I just saw the thing.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: It's like Leonard Part 6.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: I guess.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Oh, God.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: Although I'm going to pretend like... No, the person who
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: wrote this little news story said they suggested that they
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: call it Piranha Double D.
- 1:00:45Speaker 11: Ah, die.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: That person needs to be fired.
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I get your jokes. I know you're making it
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: in a... Yeah, never mind.
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: Fuck it.
- 1:00:56Speaker 7: So, yeah.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm all for it.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: Go.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: So, yeah, the really ironic part is that the producer
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: is citing the critics as part of the reason for
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: the sequel talk. He's quoted as saying, it's fantastic that
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: I can't wait to get to work on the sequel. So, normally,
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: it would have totally trashed a movie like this and
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: taken it down.
- 1:01:16Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: Now they're the main reason they're going to do a
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: sequel now.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: That just proves that they have no idea what they're
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: putting out.
- 1:01:22Speaker 14: No.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Because this is something that critics love, that people would...
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: And you already said that they didn't market it right.
- 1:01:28Speaker 17: No.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: So they have no clue what they're doing.
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: No.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: You have gold in your hands and you can't make
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: money off it.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: They could have cleaned up the first time out. I mean,
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: now they're going to bank on the DVD sales and
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: Blu-ray and a sequel. But it's like, you know, if
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: you would have done this right the first time... you
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: already would be sitting on like a $ 40 million opening
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: because that's not impossible because I think that's something like
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: what Final Destination, the 3D, the Final Destination, it opened
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: number one that week. And that was a terrible movie,
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: but it, you know, it was 3D, it was horror
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: and they opened it at the right time and it
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: made a killing that, I mean, it cleaned up for
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: the first couple of weeks to the point that they're
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: making another stupid Final Destination movie. So it's like, Had
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: they done this right, Piranha would have done the same thing.
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: That's all they had to do is show the movie
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: or whatever and be like, do you like blood?
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Do you like booze? If you did it right, you
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: could have done it internet only. I barely saw any
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: press for it. And you could have spent no money
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: on it, had internet only, and had word of mouth
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: out the end.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: They could have. Once again, just drop the ball on
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: us all together.
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: They don't know what they're doing.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: So as for whatever part two is going to be
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: called for real, they said there's no official word yet,
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: but a few weeks ago the director said, he was
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: quoted as saying, We have many ideas, like a full
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: moon party in Thailand, a huge event with 200,000 people
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: the beach. See, I didn't realize this guy was so
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: into this, because he, you know, again, he always seems
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: so serious, you know, his first movie out seems like
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: dark and serious, and now he just wants to make
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: partying beach movies and people getting eaten.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: Have a good time with it, you know.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: Yeah, this is such a weird turn, at least for me,
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: but I think I've missed the last couple of his
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: weird movies, so... Still, it doesn't seem to fit his
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: take on his other movies, but he knows what he's
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: doing in this last one. He definitely tapped into that.
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: He's not officially signed to return to direct the sequel yet,
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: but he's definitely on board as producer, so it's good
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: that he's at least attached to it at this point.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: I'd like to see a movie where they almost vote
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: to see who you would hate or who you hate
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: the most. put them in the movie and see them die.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: I think that would be a great marketing tool. Let's
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: put Zac Efron in it. Let's put Katy Perry in
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: it or something like that and just rip them to shreds.
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: Katy Perry's so cute.
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: She's cute, but I don't like her attitude.
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: She's a marketing machine.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: She went from being this girl next door image to now,
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: she is so full of herself that it's kind of scary.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: I was saddened to see that.
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: It sucks how the industry changes people.
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: A bit.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: Anyway, I'm just saying put someone out there. Let it
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: go for a vote and let's have a movie where
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: they get ripped to shreds.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: Choose your own adventure movie.
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: But that's not impossible. They can actually do that with
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: the internet now because you look at Snakes on a Plane.
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: They changed that movie based on people's response before it
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: was even done shooting. They went back before post-production and like...
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: They reshot that line that everybody said. That line wasn't
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: even in the original movie. They went back and added
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: it due to what everybody said on the internet.
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: That's awesome. I still haven't seen it.
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: It's the one about all these motherfucking snacks on this
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: motherfucking plate.
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: That became a joke on the internet. People made up
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: a bad little poster of it with him saying that.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: They're making fun of the name of the movie, basically.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: And it got such a response and people so thought
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: it was hilarious and freaked out and passed it along.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: I mean, it was the biggest marketing, you know, free
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: marketing you could ever ask for.
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: I'm the juggernaut bitch type thing.
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: But I mean, that one, the online campaign affected the
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: way the movie turned out. So, I mean, you could
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: do something like that. It's not impossible.
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: I remember Misty's phone call from Samuel L.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: Jackson.
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: That's right. I got one of those too.
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: Get your ass down here and watch this motherfucking Snakes
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: on Plane.
- 1:05:20Speaker 11: Nice.
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: Once again, the marketing on that was awesome. I can't
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: believe they didn't get more on that one when it opened.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: Just based on the, I mean, yeah, we know it's
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: going to be stupid, but I mean, just the ridiculousness
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: of it.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: Bank on that and embrace that movie, too.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 1:05:37Speaker 10: Terrible.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: I still have to see it.
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: I still have to.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: See that movie.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: It's terrible, but it was so much fun.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: Yeah, terribly enjoyable.
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: Oh, Lord.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: So, moving on to Jeremy Renner.
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: That's where I'd go.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: That's exactly where you go after Snakes on a Plane.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: So he finally emerged from years of being a working actor,
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: which means obscurity, basically, with his Oscar-nominated role on The
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: Hurt Locker. And as a result of that, he is
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: now the archer superhero Hawkeye in Marvel's The Avengers. Shortly after,
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: news broke that Paramount was looking for a younger star
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: to join Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 4. And Renner
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: has confirmed that he has landed the role.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: The thing is, I almost want... Has anybody seen Three?
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: Three is good.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: That's what I... I almost want to go back and
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: watch it for the show. I know everybody here hates
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: Tom Cruise, but it's J.J. Abrams. He directed that. And
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: I've heard he did such an amazing job just putting
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: together the stunt work and even the storyline that it
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: sort of... It's another one of those that it eclipses
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: the Tom Cruise factor.
- 1:06:38Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: So I, it's one of those I avoided because it
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: was mission impossible and I didn't really like any admission impossible.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: I mean, there's moments here and there in the first
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: one that are okay. Nobody likes the second one. So
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: it's like, I just avoided the third one, but, In
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: the last year, I've heard so many people come back
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: around and be like, no, you need to watch 3.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: 3 is pretty awesome, and it's all due to J.J. Abrams.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: And Philip Seymour Hoffman.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: And yeah, I've heard he's great. So I mean, it's
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: one of those, I don't mind that the franchise is
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: going on if, once again, they give it to... And
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: I think he's at least still attached as producer.
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: So it's like.
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: if they can get talented people involved and get, you know,
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: impressive enough that it, once again, eclipses the Tom Cruise factor,
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: which is sort of, I don't understand how he gets,
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: he's still getting cast in these huge properties because he's,
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: he's almost a detriment to your movie at this point.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: In the last, you know, five years, he's steadily gone downhill.
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: He doesn't open movies like he used to.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: Well, I think he's done a good thing as in
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: like shutting up. I don't think he's been so public
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: about his craziness recently that it's, Not like Mel Gibson
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: to where, I don't know if that motherfucker will work again. Yeah,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: that's okay.
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: I don't think he wants to. He's a fucking PLL.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: He's just, he shot himself in the foot and he
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: knows it and I don't think he cares anymore.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: You know, I think Cruz probably was shut up by
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: the Scientologists.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: Probably.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: I think he was so much negative press for them
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: that he needed to shut up for a while. I mean,
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: he does whatever they say, so.
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: Well, we all agree he needed to shut up, but
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: we just for once are on the same side as
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: their crazy religion.
- 1:08:06Speaker 11: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: So, yeah, I don't know. But again, that's one of those. Initially,
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: I was like, oh, another Mission Impossible. But, you know, again,
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: if they keep if they keep Abrams involved and, you know,
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: they bring it in again. I mean, Jeremy Renner's a
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: decent actor, right? Yeah, no, I would be glad to
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: see him added to the mix. It's just the fact
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: that they're bringing him in with Tom Cruise. But it's
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: funny that they're even citing as Paramount wanted to make sure.
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: Somebody could take over the franchise if Tom Cruise decides
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: to leave.
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: Yeah, they're trying to kill him off.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: They're not going to. They say he's already expected to
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: star in the potential Mission Impossible 5. So they're already planning.
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: Are they trying to make it a James Bond?
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: I don't get it because I love super spy espionage
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: movies and it's like they've got a good idea but
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: they just can't make it work.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: And they were bringing in like name directors and they
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: were just totally screwing it up like the first two
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: were just like these are some of the biggest names
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: around and john woo what are you doing you're totally
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: making crap so i yeah i don't know how all
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: these talented people get together and make such a mess
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: but i don't know so.
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: I'd rather them make Twelve Jason Bourne movies.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: Which they're not going to do anymore.
- 1:09:20Speaker 14: No.
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: Good, good.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Which is, again, let's not beat a dead horse. They
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: really did need to cap it off.
- 1:09:25Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: And leave it alone.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: They did a good job with them, but yeah, you're right.
- 1:09:29Speaker 4: I'm sure they'll reboot it in like a couple of years.
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: As I said, Ginny Bourne. We're going to see his
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: daughter or sister or his cousin or something.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: That would be Jay-Born, though, right? You'd have to do it.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: I still like Ginny-Born.
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: And then they'll just totally call it Reborn or something stupid.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: Ginny-Born. Awesome.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Reborn.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Colon.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: Got to have a colon.
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: Any cool movie has a colon now. Even Mission Impossible
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: has a colon. So, yeah. And this was half the
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: reason I wanted to bring this up, though, because I
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: thought this was funny. The irony, they say, about Renner
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: landing the part of the young spy is Does anybody
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: know how old he is?
- 1:10:05Speaker 7: No.
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: I was guessing, like.
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: He seems like he's 47. See, well, that's the thing.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: I mean, he plays a lot younger. Because, I mean,
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: in the movie, they were probably assuming you were going
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: to think he's, like, 25 or something. Or, you know,
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: they're not really sending old guys over to Rax. I mean,
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: you've got to assume he's probably no more than 30.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: To me, he doesn't read, like, much more. You know, 32, 33.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: He's 39.
- 1:10:30Speaker 10: Wow.
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: That's the younger guy they're bringing in?
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: Well, I remember that he was in SWAT. yeah the
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: movie swat like that bad guy or whatever yeah and
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: he was young then.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: But even then i figured he was like 19 or
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: something but he wasn't i mean he just luckily he
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: plays younger than he is because i didn't realize he
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: was 39 so he's only nine years younger than tom
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: cruise who's an old man so.
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: Cruise is like 50 he's 48 yeah fucking dumb dad so.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: Yeah what are you thinking getting old i don't know
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: dumb ass.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: I've been working for 30 years.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: How dare you be 48? I don't know why I
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: said that.
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: That just always reminded me of the... How.
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: Dare you work with retarded children?
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: How dare you?
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: Who do you think you are?
- 1:11:17Speaker 8: Asshole.
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: You think you're better than me? Oh, God. A callback
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: that no one else can possibly get.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: But no, the ultimate version of that, once again, showing
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: that sometimes Hollywood and the people in charge don't even
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: listen to their own idea. They're always like, we've got
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: to get younger, we've got to get younger, we've got
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: to cast it younger and bring in younger people. To me,
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: the ultimate version of that was when they were like, okay,
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: we're going to reboot Shaft, and you've got Samuel L. Jackson?
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: How old is that guy? I'm like, don't get me wrong,
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: Samuel L. Jackson's a badass. He can play that role.
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: But I'm like, he's probably the same age as Richard
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: Roundtree is now. It just seems like they went to
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: high school together. Yeah, I was like, how is that
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: going for a younger market?
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: It just seems like, you know, don't be scared. And
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: that's what I hate about Hollywood is just go for
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: the newer blood. Go for newer talent that is unknown.
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: They're just so scared, and they want to make money
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: that they're like, yeah, exactly. We've got to go younger, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: Who are we going to get? They go for the
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: safe bet, the older guy. It's like, come on.
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: Or they go the other way, and they just bring
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: in whoever the hot new kid. That's how you get
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: the Zac Efron.
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: It's like, go outside. Look outside of the drowning pool
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: or whatever mixing pot.
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: Go for a young talent. The same five actors they
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: cast in everything now.
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: You know, my beef with them is, like, the hot
- 1:12:43Speaker 6: leading ladies of Hollywood, they're, like, old. Like, Cameron Diaz.
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: And they keep using her.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: She's not.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: She's, like, in her 40s now.
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: I mean, she's beautiful.
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: She's 35.
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: She's eternally 35. Right. But that's what it is. I mean,
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: it's different when you're a name. You get to that
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: point where you're carrying the vehicles at that point. So
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: Julia Roberts can be Julia Roberts for another 20 years
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: because she's Julia Roberts. Yeah, she does.
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: Same time it's just like they're making these movies geared
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: for older people it's like make a fucking movie geared
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: for someone in their 20s like they always have been.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: But they're finding a new market too they did that
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: with like the old people romantic comedy what was that
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: thing that just came out with Meryl Streep and Alec.
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: Baldwin it's complicated Complicated.
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: I mean, they're realizing that people live longer now. So,
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: I mean, you've almost.
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: And they're taking Viagra.
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: And they want to... Yeah, they still want to go
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: to the movies and their money's as good as a teenager. So,
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: it's like they have found this new market of, you know,
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: different type of movies with older people.
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: You know, when it comes to... I remember, you know, when.
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: Schwarzenegger started getting too old to act and I remember
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: I was just like, well, who's going to be the
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: next big action star? And there still isn't one out there.
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: Not like that.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: Not like that.
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: And it's kind of like to find those new, you know,
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: I guess replacements or whatever to carry on the genre,
- 1:14:03Speaker 5: which if you don't give a shit, then that's fine.
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: But you've got to kind of go back to the younger, newer,
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: you know, and it's kind of like, I think there
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: are some movies that we just won't have anymore because
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: they're not willing to make that you know not safe
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: call or whatever they're not willing to just throw their
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: their dicks on the chopping block and get somebody new
- 1:14:22Speaker 5: i mean who knows well.
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: I mean some of the genres are just gonna die
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: that's the thing i mean unless we get i mean
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: you get like the the piranha was a good example
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: i mean we hadn't seen movies like that in a
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: long time and it's rare that you do so i
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: mean If you get enough of them that make money,
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: it can bring that kind of thing back.
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: Well, I don't know if it's just because people's tastes change,
- 1:14:43Speaker 6: but you've got to think about it. Westerns used to
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: be the main movie made.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: There are none anymore.
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: It's like once a year, maybe.
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: That's a perfect example.
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: And horror movies died out for a little while even.
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: And it's just like, what type of movies?
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: Are going to be left.
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: Younger romantic comedies kind of seem like they're dying out.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: Even the ones that they've made. Well, actually, that Amanda
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: What's-Her-Face girl, she's like the new romantic comedy go-to. The
- 1:15:10Speaker 6: one that was in Mean Girls.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: Oh, the Seyfried. Yeah. Seyfried is definitely your chick flick
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: kind of girl. If you need anything romantic at this point,
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: the last year, that's all they've given it to is her.
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: I think, though, they haven't really found what to market.
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: 25 to 35 too because it's a very savvy age
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: a very smart age and they've got money but they're
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: not gonna just go drop cash and you know 12
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: year olds to 18 year olds they're gonna just drop
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: put it out they don't.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: Care and they've they've realized that's another one of those
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: markets they've discovered and went you know what these kids
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: have money too whether they're making it or they're getting
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: it from their parents right they spend it just the
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: same and that's how that they love that fucking tween
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: word and they bank on it now and they've realized
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: how to make money off of it.
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: And they can market it better with Nickelodeon and all that.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: They can.
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: But like I said, 25, 35, you've got to really.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: Focus in on that group because I think they're too smart.
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: I think that's where this whole resurgence or explosion of
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: superhero movies and comic book movies have come from for
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: that my age bracket, really. Because I think, you know,
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: you just realize that We are all big kids, and
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: we are all geeks in some way, shape, or form.
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: You're in a cubicle. You're an executive. You're in that
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: age range. You've grown up with these things. You grew
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: up with the Thundercats, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And it's
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: just like there's still a bit of that that's a
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: part of you, and I think that that is our
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: age range. I think that the movies that are coming out,
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: you know, comic book movies, blah, blah, super bad, Scott Pilgrim,
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: any of that, I think that is– market and I
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: think they finally have kind of touched on that which
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: is good because we get to see that stuff that
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: we love come out as geeks were like oh yeah
- 1:16:52Speaker 5: right on but I think that still there's a lot
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: of stuff missing because it's like if you only go
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: for banking on what you know people like you still
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: got a kind of sometimes people don't know what they
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: like until you show them right and you've got to
- 1:17:07Speaker 5: kind of go out on a limb to bring something
- 1:17:09Speaker 5: different to the table I'd like to think then people
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: will be like, oh, yeah, and you might start a
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: new thing or carry on something old.
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: Well, you know, I think what the problem is, like,
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: Hollywood is... They seem to just now be getting this, but, like,
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: I guess people... The... Yeah.
- 1:17:24Speaker 8: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: I think the problem is they just don't know how
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: to market to that group. It's like they realize how
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: to market to the kids because, like we said, they
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: can stick it on with their shows and they can
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: do it. And you can market to the old people.
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: It's like the middle ones or the technical end of
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: it has changed.
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: There's a fine line because there's all these hipsters who
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: are like, oh, independent movies. So you've got to be
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: really discreet about... You've got to be discreet about your
- 1:18:08Speaker 6: marketing because that's what these people don't want. They want
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: to find this cool movie that they heard about someone
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: or Sunday.
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: Nobody else knows about it.
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: That's probably why Scott Pilgrim didn't open very big because
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: it was marketed like it was the next big movie,
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: but yet it's sort of banking on the hipster crowd.
- 1:18:28Speaker 6: I think maybe we're just not smart enough to realize
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: that they're laying low because that's what they have to
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: do to market to people. you know, people in that
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: age group just because, like.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: I don't know. I think they're just missing it. I
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: think they're just behind the times. I think they still
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: haven't fully embraced that that market is in the Internet now.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: I mean, you know, they... there's so much of it
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: that is completely lost. I think they're still focusing on
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: TV ads and billboards when it's like those guys don't
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: even go there. It's like all they do is turn
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: on their iPhone and they don't pay attention to any
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: of that stuff. So, You're going to lose them unless
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: you find that technical in. Go viral.
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: It's one of the easiest things to do is go viral.
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: Yeah, like internet and the freaking podcast. It's a whole
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: different wave of entertainment that did not exist five, ten
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: years ago. You couldn't have even imagined how many people
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: would be doing this or listening to it. So it's
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: like that's something that the official people, the establishment of
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: Hollywood is Has no idea what is going on there
- 1:19:30Speaker 4: and it affects them more than they realize.
- 1:19:32Speaker 18: It's cheaper.
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: It's cheaper to post anything on the web and just
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: have people click on it and it explodes and buying
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: TV air spots or whatever.
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: You could hire 10, 17-year-old kids to come home from
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: work or from school and just Make something. Just keep
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: putting it out there. They know 20 different ways to
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: let people know about stuff. And it all works. And
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: you pay them. You don't have to pay them making
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: a sweatshop for viral social networking. And you could make a.
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: That's what it is.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: Out of anything.
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: That is where a lot of that stuff goes on,
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: and I don't think they're fully realizing. I mean, we
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: are getting half of our news from Twitter at this point.
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: I mean, people are breaking stories on there. So, I mean,
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: it's like there's such a society going on that's just
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: technologically based at this point that I don't think, you know,
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: they're still going by the old school rules. They're still
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: trying to play it that way, and I think that's
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: why they're still missing so much.
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: Because there's no college class telling you how to do it.
- 1:20:31Speaker 10: I agree.
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: That's why.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: Definitely not. And that's who's running these companies, I guess.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: They're the kids that just got out of these college classes.
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: Fuck yeah.
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: They're so old, they're not cool anymore, so they're not
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: in the know, but yet they've got the position to
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: run these things, and now they'll just run it into
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: the ground, I guess.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: Yeah, if I were a... a production company, the first
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: thing I would do is have a bunch of people
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: sit down and listen to podcasts.
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: I think that's where you find out how to... A
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: lot of information.
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: I mean, it's... And it's funny how much that stuff
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: does affect things. Like, I really have seen movies just
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: kind of find a second life because I will hear
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: it on all of them. I mean, again, we've got
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: our own little community of podcasts here and I realize
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: they're talking about it and they're talking about it and
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: then we end up talking about it because of that or,
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: you know, so... it does, you know, it, it is
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: sort of, it starts its own little fire there and it,
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: and it spreads. And that's the way that that stuff
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: gets picked up. Not, you know, not by running more
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: billboards because people are just numb to that stuff at
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: this point. So, all right. We have ranted on many,
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: many times.
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: What are we watching?
- 1:21:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: Hell of a vinyl.
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: All right. Now we can go on to, um, Now,
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: I'll clarify this, Roger. What's the correct? Anime is incorrect.
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: What's our proper pronunciation?
- 1:21:50Speaker 17: Anime.
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: I'm going to go with animonopoeia.
- 1:21:54Speaker 11: Okay.
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: From here on out, everybody just refer to Japanese animation
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: as animonopoeia.
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: It is a noise like pop.
- 1:22:03Speaker 7: Animonopoeia.
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: So, yeah.
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: Guns go bakyun in Japan, apparently. That is a sound
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: effect for a gun.
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: Aklaimed onomatopoeia director, Mirazaki, is now 69 and is moving
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: towards his Studio Ghibli, producing more movies directed by younger
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: members of his staff. However, the master is not totally
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: giving up on directing more movies himself.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: God, he's awesome.
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: And what may be his next project should be exciting
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: for fans of one of his earlier films, Porco Rosso.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: Oh, no shit.
- 1:22:37Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: The 1992 film detailing the flying exploits of an Italian
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: pilot during World War I.
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: Who turns into a pig for some reason.
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: Who has been magically transformed into a walking, talking pig.
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: Hence the title. So, yes, Porco Rosso is about a
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: pig shooting down biplanes.
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: Oh, I'm afraid of pigs.
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: No, thank you.
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: Acai Buta. Do they... I'm just not in that world.
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: You know, I've seen, you know, Astro Boy. You know,
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: that's about as far and deep into it as I've gone.
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: Do they just drop a bunch of acid and just like,
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: let's fuck this up?
- 1:23:09Speaker 7: What if.
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: If I could tell you about the different genres of
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: Japanese animation and what these guys actually sit down and
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: draw frame by frame, it would turn your stomach, blow
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: your mind, all in the same... Yeah, I've seen some
- 1:23:25Speaker 5: scary stuff. It is fucking crazy. It is really insane.
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: But there's really, really good stuff that comes out of it, too.
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: And really bad stuff. And hilarious stuff.
- 1:23:34Speaker 10: But.
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: I would like to say he's one of my favorite
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: anime directors. His stuff is amazing. It's always quality. And
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: if you want to get into any anime or anything,
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: check out his stuff. Of course, Spirited Away is one
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: of the best things to drop, just to let you know.
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: But this is very exciting for me.
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: I think this is awesome.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: Yeah, this marks the first sequel that he would tackle.
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: And it's titled Porco Rosso, The Last Sortie.
- 1:24:01Speaker 8: Oh, wow.
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: He's revealed the hero will actually be a boy instead
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: of a girl like most of his movies. And it
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: would be set during the Spanish Civil War 20 years
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: after World War I.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: So that's the.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: That's the good news that he's doing that. Here's the
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: bad news. The ability for him to make The Last
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: Sortie will depend on the success of Studio Ghibli's next
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: two movies, neither of which he's directing. So... Well.
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: Hopefully it's like his son. I don't know if he
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: has his son taking over a lot of the directorial
- 1:24:31Speaker 5: or if it's just all young blood. But I have
- 1:24:33Speaker 5: faith in Studio Ghibli.
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: They really.
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: he only employs people that have good visions. And I
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: think that if anything comes out of it, it.
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: Will be good.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: Not as good as his stuff, but still good.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: That's why I'm saying that everybody, you know, I guess
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: go out and support everything that's coming out from there
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: because they're, they're making it sound like that is, it's
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: sort of hanging in the next couple of movies. You know,
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: it's like they're saying if these, Next couple come out
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: and perform poorly. Perform poorly. Perform poorly. Studio Ghibli will
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: probably shut down and become just a skeleton crew company
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: that controls the rights to existing properties.
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: Dude, everybody watch everything. That cannot happen.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: That cannot fucking happen. There's three more. There's one that's
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: already coming out in the U.S., Tales of Earthsea, and
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: then there's two more that are coming out in Japan soon, and...
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: Everybody get out and watch him if you want to
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: keep seeing him make movies, because it sounds like that's,
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: it's all, I guess, you know, money is tough everywhere, obviously.
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: But I will say that, you know, ever since he's
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: kind of not, when he's given up the helm, apparently,
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: to other directors, I will say that the movies that
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: are coming out aren't as good. I mean, because Ponyo
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: was the last one that came out by Studio Ghibli,
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: and it was good. It's perfect for a, it is a,
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: for a kids it's like definitely and he does great
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: storybook movies for children but that also appealed to grown
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: ups also that one was almost more too kiddy it
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: was beautiful but it almost seemed like it was just
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: for kids and I'd like to see him going back
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: to when it was more adult type you know themes
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: not as far as like you know but for an
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: older audience and it is just basically an animated storybook
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: which is good too And I can't remember the last
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: one that he actually directed. It might have been Spirited
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: Away was the last one that he himself directed.
- 1:26:26Speaker 11: Maybe.
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: But that makes me sad. I don't like to hear
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: that at all. They cannot close their doors.
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: Once again, if what we just said before that actually
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: has any merit, spread the word and everybody go support
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: these next couple of movies coming out or they're going
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: to shut down.
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: I've grown up with them.
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: Go watch some. And this one I just like because
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: the title is News to Make You Feel Old. Jessica
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: Alba is moving on to play mom roles.
- 1:26:56Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: Isn't that kind of sad? She is in talks to
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: star as the mom in the new espionage preteen movie,
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids 4.
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: Nice. Yep.
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: So yeah i don't know what to do with that
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: i mean they're they're basically they have to move on
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: because you know alex vegas 23 now so she can't
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: be spy kid anymore so uh they're they're actually talking
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: about getting both the kids and uh antonio back they
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: don't know if they're gonna get carla back she's still
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: sort of in talks but um otherwise they're gonna be
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: back to play this is sort of reprise as supporting
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: characters but they're gonna bring in new people so she's
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: gonna be the new mom and have like two stepkids
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: and they're going to take over as like the spy
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: kids and they have to go find the dad that's missing.
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: And I don't know. So it's just, it's weird that
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: Jessica Alba.
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: Is becoming the mom.
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: Yeah. Any movie now. So that's, take what you can get.
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: I guess so. You know, I do start to wonder though,
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: they just wrinkles. They say this, uh, this is the
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: third time she will have worked with Rodriguez after sin
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: city and the upcoming machete. So, Last time he kept
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: working with somebody, he ended up hooking up with her.
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: Didn't she, like, marry them?
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: Well, that didn't stop. So was he when he hooked
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: up with the last one. So that doesn't stop anybody.
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: So I'm just saying, Jessica, watch your back. Or Jessica's husband.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: Watch her back.
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: Have you seen Robert Rodriguez?
- 1:28:20Speaker 8: He's cute.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Her husband better watch it. So, yeah,
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: Rodriguez is expected to start filming in September in Austin,
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: as usual, on the budget of less than $ 30 million.
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: That's why they keep letting him make these movies. He
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: does it for shoestring. And they come out looking pretty decent.
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: The kids ones don't look as good, but who cares?
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: Most of the time, kids don't care. You don't have
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: to waste an extra $ 30 to $ 50 million on it.
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: As long as they can stick a toy in a
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: Happy Meal, they're happy.
- 1:28:52Speaker 5: I actually enjoyed the first two.
- 1:28:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I remember a lot about the first one.
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: It was pretty fun for what it was.
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: It was fun and had this weird undertone that I
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: thought was freaking hilarious. Like, Zoop was, like, mutating people
- 1:29:05Speaker 5: in the commercials. If you played him backwards, you're like,
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: help us, help us.
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: There's a lot of clever stuff, even in his kids' movies.
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: He's always kind of got something going on.
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: I like our Rodriguez.
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: That's, yeah, a little smarter than most kids' fair, so that's.
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: Kind of cool. Lava Girl and Sharkwood was bad. Just bad.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: Whatever.
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: He's the number one star in the world now.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: No, you know, I'm going to give credit to Sharkboy.
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: He's not as bad as I have said before. But
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: everything else about that movie, like George Lopez. Well, that's
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: what happens when you let George Lopez in your movie.
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: Yeah, fuck that guy.
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: Bad, bad, bad.
- 1:29:38Speaker 11: Jesus.
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: All right, so that will round out the buzz. I
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: actually do have the interview to go into, which will
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: tie into today's movie as well. But go with one
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: of my favorite actresses of all time, Miss Catherine Mary Stewart.
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: So yeah, as I sat there, I pieced together what
- 1:29:56Speaker 4: I thought was decent interview material and questions, but I
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: also had the question of deciding whether to completely divulge
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: what a big crush I had on her.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: I was going to say, did you ask her out?
- 1:30:09Speaker 4: Well, once again, I don't think her husband would like that.
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: Was he sitting there?
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: Her son was. Her son was sitting at the table
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: with her.
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: I remember that. Earmuffs, kid. Earmuffs.
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: He's a cute kid. He seemed actually pretty nice. I've
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: been in love with your mom. Yeah, I didn't know
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: how to do that. But it was one of those,
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: I was like, well, is that unprofessional? No, not at all. Well,
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: on one hand, it probably is. But at the same time,
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: I think what we bring to this kind of show
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: is a sense of realism. It's like, I'm not fucking
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: John Tesh sitting behind a desk. I'm not going to
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: ask the same stupid things. And you're not going to
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: throw it in in the middle of serious questions. It's
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, we come from a fan base, you know,
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: so it's one of those I thought, and I wanted
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: to pose the question of, you know, how do you
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: deal with that? Because there's very few people I've had
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: that to say to, so I can't ask that to,
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: you know, when I'm talking to Sid Haig, I can't
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: ask him that question. I think he's awesome, but, you know,
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: I didn't feel quite the same about him.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: Well, and yeah, what did that feel like?
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: I think, yeah, I thought that was.
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: That's all you buddy that is all you so yeah
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: I thought it was an interesting way and it was
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: one of those I might not have but it also
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: fell at a time where this was several several months
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: ago and it was right after uh cory haim had
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: died and misty had just met him you know six
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: eight months before that and didn't really say anything to
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: him and obviously she's like ridiculously devoted to him but
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: yeah she just kind of got overwhelmed it was just
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: like we signed this and then left and after that
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: i think she was sort of kicking herself for not
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: going you know especially when what happened happened she was
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: just like God, why didn't I tell him that, you know,
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: you were awesome and, you know, you made my childhood.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: And it was so important that, you know, I sat
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: and watched your movies. It actually made a difference to me.
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: Yeah, you never know when somebody's going to need that, too.
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: Well, yeah. So it was like one of those, I'm like,
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: this will probably be the only time in my life
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: I'm sitting here in this situation. And I could be
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: hit by a bus tomorrow. So let's throw it out there.
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: You know, it's kind of important to me. Well, see,
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: you know, it felt like something I kind of needed
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: to do. So I'm even going to leave it in
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: the segment here because I thought, you know, it's kind of,
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: you know, as sappy as I am, it's sort of important,
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: I thought, to kind of throw that out there.
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: Well, I wanted to tell Linda Hamilton. She was one
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: of the first crushes I ever had on an actress
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: was Linda Hamilton from Terminator.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: And, you know, I was just like, oh, she is.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: That's what this was. I was right at that point.
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: Yeah, she's connected.
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: I didn't sing the song I wrote for her.
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: Oh, nice.
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: Yeah, that, no.
- 1:32:47Speaker 11: I mean, you know.
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: No, with like a nice poster you draw on another face.
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: I contained myself.
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: There's appropriate ways to approach this subject, and I think
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: that you probably did a good and tasteful way.
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: I shouldn't have sang that song about us getting married.
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: I'm a sappy 13-year-old. What do you want?
- 1:33:08Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: So, yeah, if nothing else, she's also been in, I think,
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: some amazing movies. So this was sort of just the
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: overview of her getting into acting. And then we've actually
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: got several other things to get into later. But, yeah,
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: this is the basics. So, yeah, we'll see what Catherine
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: has to say about this.
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: Let's get to it.
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: I choo-choo-choose you.
- 1:33:29Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: I should have, though.
- 1:33:34Speaker 19: Oh, let's see.
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: You were born in Canada.
- 1:33:37Speaker 7: I was.
- 1:33:38Speaker 19: You kind of got into the entertainment industry and dancing?
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:33:42Speaker 7: I started dancing originally when I was seven.
- 1:33:46Speaker 10: And then I picked it up again when I was
- 1:33:49Speaker 10: like 13, 14 and loved it and decided and did
- 1:33:55Speaker 10: it like pretty much full time over school and everything.
- 1:33:59Speaker 7: It was like I went to school, but... Wasn't that
- 1:34:01Speaker 7: interesting in school. Loved the performing aspect of it.
- 1:34:05Speaker 13: It was in a company.
- 1:34:06Speaker 7: We traveled a lot with the company.
- 1:34:10Speaker 10: And so when I graduated from high school, I decided
- 1:34:13Speaker 10: that was probably what I.
- 1:34:14Speaker 7: Wanted to pursue anyway at this point. And I.
- 1:34:19Speaker 13: Ended up going to London, England, to study.
- 1:34:22Speaker 10: And that's where I made that transition into the acting thing.
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: One of those crazy stories.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Had you ever.
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: been interested.
- 1:34:31Speaker 10: Before that in it at all well you know in
- 1:34:33Speaker 10: high school i'd uh and junior high school i've been
- 1:34:37Speaker 10: in acting class and yeah i guess i'd always kind
- 1:34:40Speaker 10: of liked performing yeah kind of that ham thing going
- 1:34:43Speaker 10: on it was very shy it's so funny because such
- 1:34:46Speaker 10: a dichotomy you know actors are on one hand extremely
- 1:34:50Speaker 10: shy and you can pretty much most actors are yeah but.
- 1:34:53Speaker 7: On the other hand love to get on stage and
- 1:34:57Speaker 7: show off.
- 1:34:57Speaker 19: It's like a different mode kicks in.
- 1:35:00Speaker 13: Yeah, I think it's a.
- 1:35:00Speaker 10: Way of expressing themselves that they can't do in real life.
- 1:35:05Speaker 10: You can pretend to be somebody else much easier than
- 1:35:09Speaker 10: you're so insecure.
- 1:35:13Speaker 19: Probably so.
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: Most people have that.
- 1:35:15Speaker 19: They just can't find an outlet for it.
- 1:35:17Speaker 7: Right, right. Exactly.
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: As you moved into acting, was it kind of a
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: hard transition, or is it something that you fell into?
- 1:35:27Speaker 13: Well, I really did fall into it.
- 1:35:29Speaker 10: I auditioned for The Apple, and I just kind of like,
- 1:35:33Speaker 10: you know, thought, well, I'll just see what happens with this,
- 1:35:36Speaker 10: and after I did The Apple, that's when I went
- 1:35:39Speaker 10: to Los Angeles, and just the fact that I had
- 1:35:41Speaker 10: this lead role in a movie on my resume.
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: People, you know, took notice, and that got me going
- 1:35:47Speaker 7: in Los Angeles.
- 1:35:49Speaker 19: That's the foot in the door you needed.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: It was, yeah.
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: It was like the discovering, being discovered at Schwab's kind
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: of story.
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35:56Speaker 7: You know?
- 1:35:58Speaker 19: You take it when it comes, yeah.
- 1:35:59Speaker 7: You gotta, yes, absolutely.
- 1:36:01Speaker 19: You gotta take it when it comes. As far as
- 1:36:03Speaker 19: when you got into it, were you always Catherine Murray Stewart?
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: No.
- 1:36:07Speaker 10: My last name is, was, or is, actually legally it's
- 1:36:12Speaker 10: Stewart now, but Nursall.
- 1:36:13Speaker 13: N-U-R-S-A-L-L.
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: And the director, Menachem Goan, Menachem Goan.
- 1:36:20Speaker 13: On, um, He was quite an interesting character. Kind of abrasive.
- 1:36:31Speaker 13: Could be very abrasive.
- 1:36:33Speaker 7: He was like, what is his name?
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: I don't know what his name is.
- 1:36:36Speaker 7: He's from Israel.
- 1:36:37Speaker 13: He had this accent.
- 1:36:39Speaker 7: I'm like, I don't know.
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: It's my name.
- 1:36:42Speaker 7: You've got to change it. My mother's last name is Stuart.
- 1:36:47Speaker 13: She's Mary Stuart. That's her maiden name.
- 1:36:50Speaker 10: And I just thought, oh, that sounds a little Catholic.
- 1:36:57Speaker 10: And then, of course, everybody calls me Mary Catherine, and
- 1:37:01Speaker 10: Catherine Mary Stewart.
- 1:37:02Speaker 7: Queen of Scots, you know, Saint, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:37:06Speaker 10: So, you know, you can't escape being teased with a name.
- 1:37:08Speaker 7: It doesn't matter what your name is. Somebody's going to
- 1:37:10Speaker 7: find a way to tease you. But that's what.
- 1:37:13Speaker 13: I came up with, and I just stuck with it.
- 1:37:15Speaker 4: I just didn't know if you, because it seemed like
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: at that time, it seemed like there were all these
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: other actresses that came along with three names. I didn't
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: know if just casting-wise it became a problem.
- 1:37:24Speaker 13: No, it didn't.
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: Mary Stewart, Master Sings, and yeah.
- 1:37:29Speaker 7: Mary Stewart, Master Sings, yeah. I get teased about that, too.
- 1:37:32Speaker 10: Mary Elizabeth Mastriano or Master Antonio or whatever. You know,
- 1:37:37Speaker 10: it's funny, though, when I came up with Kath and
- 1:37:40Speaker 10: Mary Stewart, I hadn't really heard of all these three-name actresses.
- 1:37:43Speaker 7: I was just before those ones exploded.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: That wave that hit.
- 1:37:48Speaker 13: That wave hit, yeah.
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: Well, I think that basically I was the cause of that.
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: I think so.
- 1:37:54Speaker 13: I'm the original.
- 1:37:54Speaker 7: I'm sort of like Cher. I don't know what single names.
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: Everybody wanted Emil.
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:37:58Speaker 13: Well, what can I say?
- 1:38:01Speaker 7: It's funny because at an audition years ago, Mary Stewart.
- 1:38:04Speaker 10: Masterson came up to me and she says, I have
- 1:38:07Speaker 10: to meet my namesake, you know, because I guess she
- 1:38:09Speaker 10: got a lot of, you know, stuff that.
- 1:38:15Speaker 19: Calls from the wrong agent.
- 1:38:16Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:38:17Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:38:18Speaker 7: But I figured it would take up a lot of the, you.
- 1:38:21Speaker 13: Know, the billboard.
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: That's what you're looking for.
- 1:38:24Speaker 13: That was my goal.
- 1:38:24Speaker 19: Steal the spot.
- 1:38:27Speaker 13: You do what you gotta do.
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 1:38:29Speaker 19: It's the only way to get behind it.
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: I bet the vacuum is getting close.
- 1:38:34Speaker 19: Can't you see we're talking here?
- 1:38:37Speaker 12: Yeah, really.
- 1:38:38Speaker 13: Work with us.
- 1:38:40Speaker 10: You know, this one guy today came by and he goes,
- 1:38:44Speaker 10: you know, when I saw you in the last Starfighter,
- 1:38:48Speaker 10: I thought girls were icky, and then I saw you,
- 1:38:50Speaker 10: and I'm like, oh, girls are cool, and then I
- 1:38:52Speaker 10: saw you in the con, and.
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: I was like, wow, they're even cooler.
- 1:38:56Speaker 10: So I was like, that's a great perspective, too, you know?
- 1:39:00Speaker 7: Girls don't have to be just, like, cutesy little girly girls.
- 1:39:04Speaker 7: They can get to, like, interest a guy. In fact,
- 1:39:08Speaker 7: it's kind of cool if they're cool and tough.
- 1:39:11Speaker 19: Yeah, I was going to ask what, because I know it's...
- 1:39:14Speaker 19: you run into a lot of people.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Doing these kind of things and just having sort of
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: an impact on their life. I mean, how weird is that, having.
- 1:39:23Speaker 8: I.
- 1:39:24Speaker 10: It's nothing I ever suspected would happen with me.
- 1:39:30Speaker 7: I just.
- 1:39:31Speaker 10: It kind of illustrates the power of movies and the longevity.
- 1:39:35Speaker 13: They just never die.
- 1:39:36Speaker 10: Thank goodness I never... I really have never done anything
- 1:39:39Speaker 10: that I regretted.
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:39:40Speaker 7: Because they never die! But it's... It's a really good feeling. I.
- 1:39:49Speaker 10: I.
- 1:39:51Speaker 10: I don't, you know, know how to even express it.
- 1:39:54Speaker 7: It's really, it's just a really good, satisfied feeling.
- 1:39:58Speaker 13: If that, if it has a.
- 1:40:00Speaker 7: Positive effect on somebody, how.
- 1:40:03Speaker 13: Can that not be good?
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:40:05Speaker 7: You know what I mean? I don't want to take
- 1:40:07Speaker 7: it for granted ever because.
- 1:40:11Speaker 13: I just think, I really appreciate that.
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: Yeah. It is one of those, yeah, I've wondered, but
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: it had a specific personal aspect on this.
- 1:40:19Speaker 19: Because, yeah, as a kid, I had such a crush
- 1:40:21Speaker 19: on you. It was kind of sappy, really.
- 1:40:25Speaker 13: But that's a good thing.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it was.
- 1:40:28Speaker 10: And what's also kind of cool is that if anybody
- 1:40:32Speaker 10: ever says that, I'm always sort of surprised and pleased.
- 1:40:39Speaker 10: Especially if it's a positive thing.
- 1:40:41Speaker 7: It's so cool.
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: And sappy is good for me.
- 1:40:43Speaker 7: I like sappy. Like I said, I really appreciate.
- 1:40:49Speaker 10: that more than ever about the power of movies and
- 1:40:54Speaker 10: just how lucky I am.
- 1:40:55Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:40:57Speaker 7: It's so unexpected.
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: Yeah, it seems like sort of a weird thing that
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: a lot of people don't experience.
- 1:41:03Speaker 19: I just wondered how it was to deal with that.
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: I think in real life, a lot of people don't
- 1:41:07Speaker 7: understand how... No, not at all. People don't come up
- 1:41:10Speaker 7: to them and, I loved you in grade three, you know,
- 1:41:13Speaker 7: or something. It just doesn't happen. So I try to.
- 1:41:18Speaker 10: Take it for what it's worth and and try to
- 1:41:20Speaker 10: appreciate it never take it for granted you know because
- 1:41:24Speaker 10: it's it really is unique and kind of special.
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: Yeah i watched i was gonna say i watched sins
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: for your scenes as like a 13 year old boy
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: watching a joan collins movie specifically because i think they
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: had said you were going.
- 1:41:37Speaker 19: To be oh that's cool it's yeah.
- 1:41:39Speaker 10: It's interesting good yeah yeah that was like kind of
- 1:41:43Speaker 10: a neat experience too actually that was um That was
- 1:41:46Speaker 10: a tough one.
- 1:41:46Speaker 7: I had to do some pretty tough stuff in that.
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: It was a heavy topic, and you didn't expect that
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: going into, you know, the Jim Collins books.
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: It was always sort of built like it was some
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: sort of, again, some weird, you know, sex-themed thing.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:41:57Speaker 19: You get into that one, and it's a pretty heavy story.
- 1:42:00Speaker 7: It's kind of dark, yeah.
- 1:42:01Speaker 19: Yeah, especially for your character.
- 1:42:03Speaker 7: I know, right.
- 1:42:04Speaker 19: Before you, you know.
- 1:42:05Speaker 7: Before I become Jim Collins.
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: The aging, yeah. which thankfully has not happened for me
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: if you want to get like info on your website
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: or if you want to tell people like new stuff
- 1:42:15Speaker 4: you have coming out we can.
- 1:42:16Speaker 10: Definitely run that well I have a I just did
- 1:42:19Speaker 10: a movie A Christmas Snow in February it's a Christmas
- 1:42:23Speaker 10: movie it's not anything that would fit in here very
- 1:42:27Speaker 10: family oriented very sweet that'll be out in October and
- 1:42:32Speaker 10: I have a Hallmark.
- 1:42:33Speaker 7: TV movie coming out in a month or two called.
- 1:42:35Speaker 13: The Class so.
- 1:42:38Speaker 10: Eric Roberts plays my husband I get to play sort
- 1:42:42Speaker 10: of a wealthy I'm married to Eric Roberts who's this
- 1:42:46Speaker 10: rich lawyer guy and our relationship is a little bumpy
- 1:42:51Speaker 10: it's not the happiest in the world so I drink
- 1:42:55Speaker 10: all the time I always have a glass every scene
- 1:42:57Speaker 10: I have a glass of wine he says something and
- 1:43:00Speaker 10: I'm like it's not a healthy relationship no not a
- 1:43:04Speaker 10: healthy relationship And we're having troubles with our son.
- 1:43:08Speaker 7: And all this other stuff.
- 1:43:10Speaker 13: But it's so much fun to play that.
- 1:43:11Speaker 19: It's a lot to work with.
- 1:43:14Speaker 7: Yes, exactly. Good meaty character.
- 1:43:17Speaker 13: So, yeah, that's coming out.
- 1:43:19Speaker 10: And also another movie called Rising Stars, which is about
- 1:43:24Speaker 10: sort of a music competition thing, which is, you know,
- 1:43:27Speaker 10: a lot of stories are about that these days. But
- 1:43:30Speaker 10: this is a little bit different in that it's a
- 1:43:33Speaker 10: group of kids.
- 1:43:36Speaker 10: From musicians to dancers to singers to movie makers, the
- 1:43:41Speaker 10: competition is to put together a video.
- 1:43:43Speaker 7: A music video, write it, and they get a theme.
- 1:43:47Speaker 10: And I just play the totally overbearing mother of this
- 1:43:52Speaker 10: director who's very dark and almost goth.
- 1:43:55Speaker 7: And I'm very upstanding.
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: Yes, Milan.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: Very dark.
- 1:44:00Speaker 13: So it was cute. It's a cute movie. And that
- 1:44:03Speaker 13: should be coming out sometime soon, too.
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:44:05Speaker 19: Do you want to tell people to go to your website? Oh, yeah, sure.
- 1:44:10Speaker 7: Definitely check out my website, which I've got a revamp, actually.
- 1:44:14Speaker 7: So I'm not even sure I should tell people to
- 1:44:15Speaker 7: go there.
- 1:44:16Speaker 10: Because it's at CatherineMaryStewart.net. But also join my Facebook fan page.
- 1:44:23Speaker 13: That's where... You'll get all the.
- 1:44:25Speaker 10: Latest information about everything that I'm doing and join that.
- 1:44:29Speaker 10: And I try to stay really up to date with
- 1:44:33Speaker 10: that stuff with photos and everything that I'm doing.
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: You did it?
- 1:44:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:44:39Speaker 13: Well, thank you so much.
- 1:44:40Speaker 7: I'm glad we could do this.
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: Alright, so yes, once again, thank you to Catherine for
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: putting up with me and actually sitting there, and for
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: both of us for not killing that guy with the
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: vacuum cleaner that was running it right next to us. Jackass.
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: Asshole.
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: Do you not see me with, like, pieces of equipment
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: sitting here? He doesn't care.
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: No.
- 1:44:58Speaker 5: He does not care.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Minimum wage.
- 1:45:00Speaker 5: If anything, he's like, fuck you.
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: He came a little closer.
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: I'm gonna get the loud vacuum.
- 1:45:06Speaker 8: Jackass.
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: So, yes, thank you to Catherine. And she actually, I've
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: been talking to Tom, who runs her site and her
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: Facebook page, and they're actually, I mentioned we were going
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: to be watching the Apple this week, and they got
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: kind of excited. They were like, wow, that's cool. And
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: she even posted something about it on there. So you
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: can go to her Facebook page, and it's like a
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: fan page, and you can get on there. And, yeah,
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: they opened up like a special folder specifically because we.
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: Said we were going to watch this.
- 1:45:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: And she, yeah, her, her comment, which actually came from
- 1:45:39Speaker 4: her because Tom said, Hey, she posted this. Did you
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: guys read it? So it says, you know, how cool
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: is this? Uh, anyone that has questions for her directly
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: about it can ask her on that page. And so,
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: I mean, it's kind of cool that she's responding to
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: even what we're doing now. So she's, yeah, she's obviously
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: very cool, very grounded and, um, still has some, some
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: cool stuff to put out there. So she's got new
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: movies coming out too. So, If nothing else, yeah, go
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: find her on Facebook. Again, Facebook, that's the one drawback.
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: There's no easy way to tell somebody to go to
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: a page. You just have to search for it. But
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: there is, it does say off to the side underneath
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: her picture, the only official Facebook site for Catherine Mary Stewart.
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: So look for that one. That is the one that's
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: actually run by Tom and Catherine herself. So definitely go
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: look for that. And if you're a new listener, because
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: you were on that board and saw that we were
- 1:46:28Speaker 4: talking about her movies, stick with us because I've got
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: quite a few of them. There's several other ones that
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: we've saved segments for that we're going to run in
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: the future. So hang in there. Obviously, you must love
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: all of our yammering on after this episode.
- 1:46:41Speaker 3: She's still here.
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: So, yeah, just stick with us and we'll get to
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: some more of her movies. But otherwise, I think that
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: wraps up this first half.
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: Excellent.
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: I figured we'd go out by me singing the song
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: that I wrote for her. Please.
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: One, two, three.
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: Please.
- 1:46:53Speaker 11: Please.
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: Dear Catherine. All right. Nobody wants to hear that. And
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: I never really worked out the rest of the music
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: on it. So next time, Greg, bring in the guitar.
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: All right. Finish out this song.
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: Drop a beat.
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: It's, what, like 50 years in the making now? Yeah.
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: I should probably wrap it up. Otherwise, we will invite
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: you to come back and join us for Catherine's Movie
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: of the Week. This week's Sofa Theater feature is The Apple.
- 1:47:16Speaker 8: Awesome.
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: Please come back.
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: It's a sight to behold, let me tell you. So
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: come back and join us.
- 1:47:33Speaker 14: I lie awake and count the stars that you see.
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: I can't pretend.
- 1:47:40Speaker 14: To think of anyone else You smile and reach your
- 1:47:46Speaker 14: hand to me in my dream I wish this night
- 1:47:52Speaker 14: could be as real as.
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: A song to sing.
- 1:47:58Speaker 11: Always watching as.
- 1:48:00Speaker 8: You glide right.
- 1:48:01Speaker 17: By Always hoping I'll say something more. But when will
- 1:48:10Speaker 17: I ever get to try?
- 1:48:13Speaker 12: Not today, I never thought to get the rent before.
- 1:48:30Speaker 17: I love the way you walk.
- 1:48:33Speaker 8: To work, you know.
- 1:48:37Speaker 12: I write those silly songs you sing to yourself Always
- 1:48:44Speaker 12: watching as.
- 1:48:46Speaker 18: You glide right by Always hoping I'll say something more
- 1:48:53Speaker 18: But when will I ever get to try?
- 1:48:56Speaker 8: Not today, I never.
- 1:48:59Speaker 12: Talk But you've kept the rent.
- 1:49:05Speaker 11: Before Is she already gone? I hope this feeling will
- 1:49:25Speaker 11: stay It's all.
- 1:49:26Speaker 8: Down to one I could follow the sun But I.
- 1:49:35Speaker 17: Can't Wait another day To say hey.
- 1:49:42Speaker 14: Always wishing I might get to try.
- 1:49:46Speaker 12: Gotta say I never talked to Catherine before today.
- 1:49:52Speaker 8: I never, never.
- 1:49:58Speaker 17: Talked to Catherine before today. Will Robin have to carry
- 1:50:13Speaker 17: on alone?
- 1:50:20Speaker 18: What stalking development has Vicki discovered?
- 1:50:24Speaker 10: Don't fail to.
- 1:50:26Speaker 18: See Robin's Wild Ride, the third thrill-packed challenge.
