- 0:09Speaker 2: back to Mark Simone on wo R.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Well with us now, the greatest living DJ, the legend himself,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the legendary Scotch Shannon is with us. Of course you
- 0:23Speaker 1: know him for a million years from radio, but he's
- 0:25Speaker 1: also runs the true Oldies channel, which you should be
- 0:28Speaker 1: listening to. And he's with us now. Scott Shannon, how
- 0:32Speaker 1: you doing.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I am fantastic good Martin from the frozen tundra of
- 0:39Speaker 2: South Florida. We're not used to this kind of weather,
- 0:42Speaker 2: but it's very cold.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Well, how cold is it?
- 0:46Speaker 2: It's been. It's been down to thirty thirty two at night.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Everybody got their flowers covered up. Yeah, I give you
- 0:55Speaker 2: a hunt to You know, I was watching the local
- 0:58Speaker 2: news on the ABC of affiliate here in South Florida,
- 1:02Speaker 2: and you know how they made the announcements about school
- 1:05Speaker 2: closings and oh and such a school's going to open
- 1:08Speaker 2: up late. Well, I'm watching it. I swear this is
- 1:12Speaker 2: a true story. They come on to announce across the
- 1:16Speaker 2: bottom of the screen that the message said two hour
- 1:20Speaker 2: delays in the opening of the picklebowl courts. You got
- 1:28Speaker 2: to delay those, man, you can't get out there for
- 1:30Speaker 2: two hours.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Wow. Did you watch the Grammys last night?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Well? I watched them because I did it so you
- 1:40Speaker 2: wouldn't have to. But I'm kind of interesting because besides
- 1:46Speaker 2: the Grammys, you had a great Knicks game on last
- 1:50Speaker 2: night where they knocked out the Lakers. That was interesting.
- 1:54Speaker 2: You also had American Idol, who's had pretty good numbers
- 1:58Speaker 2: in the last couple of seasons. And the new season
- 2:01Speaker 2: of Bridgerton kicked off last night too.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And I gotta be honest, I don't even know what Bridgerton.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I've never watched Bridgerton.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Oh I don't either, but I got someone in the
- 2:12Speaker 2: house that does, so she was all excited. I watched
- 2:18Speaker 2: as much as I could take it. It wasn't as much,
- 2:24Speaker 2: you know, uh, Trump banging as usually you'll see him do.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And there was a few little stabs and jabs, but
- 2:34Speaker 2: it wasn't as bad as normal. Trevor Noah, who thinks
- 2:39Speaker 2: he's funny and occasionally touches on funny, but he did
- 2:48Speaker 2: just see him. They just see him sit down and
- 2:51Speaker 2: have a little chit chat with the Bad Bunny guy.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Bad Bunny wanted nothing to do with his crack.
- 3:01Speaker 1: But this Trevor Noah is, he's a political commentator. Shouldn't
- 3:06Speaker 1: you have an actual comedian to host the Grammy's not
- 3:08Speaker 1: a political guy?
- 3:10Speaker 2: I think so. Well, Like I said, I think he
- 3:13Speaker 2: likes to identify as funny. I'm not sure that he is.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I keep waiting for it, and he did. He did
- 3:23Speaker 2: a pretty decent job. And I know this is going
- 3:26Speaker 2: to sound weird, but I kind of like mister bad Bunny.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I thought I thought he was very sincere seemed like
- 3:33Speaker 2: a nice guy. He doesn't speak English very well, you know,
- 3:37Speaker 2: he's a Spanish guy. And then did you see the
- 3:41Speaker 2: line where Trevor Noah said, I don't like what's going
- 3:45Speaker 2: on in this country. Can I move in with you
- 3:47Speaker 2: in Puerto Rico? Bad Bunny said, no, it's worse there.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I don't know. This Bad Bunny looks a little weird
- 3:55Speaker 1: to me. You know when he when he won, did
- 3:56Speaker 1: you see him cover his face for like thirty seconds
- 4:00Speaker 1: like he was crying.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Well, I think do you think he was emotional or something?
- 4:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I don't know, And it's just a weird. He's kind
- 4:06Speaker 1: of creepy looking, isn't he.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, a little bit. But I thought, like I said,
- 4:12Speaker 2: I didn't think it was that bad. I thought he
- 4:14Speaker 2: was okay, I mean he didn't. He didn't reach as
- 4:17Speaker 2: hard as uh as Trevor did. Yeah, did you did?
- 4:22Speaker 2: I'm sure you didn't watch the Red Carpet. No, you
- 4:26Speaker 2: didn't see that girl? Uh Chapel Roone she is, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 4:33Speaker 2: she's she wanted. She won a big award last year.
- 4:37Speaker 2: She's uh, she does a pink pony song.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Well I saw her coming in and she had this
- 4:46Speaker 2: dress on and and I'm pretty sure it was supported
- 4:51Speaker 2: by nipple clamps on her. I'm not kidding you. The
- 4:58Speaker 2: whole dress was suspended by the nipples. I don't think
- 5:05Speaker 2: she had the nerve to wear it when she went
- 5:07Speaker 2: on television, but she definitely came in like that. And
- 5:11Speaker 2: you know, they had something for everyone last night. The
- 5:14Speaker 2: worst thing. Remember last season, they caught a lot of
- 5:17Speaker 2: heat for not doing tributes for all the full all
- 5:23Speaker 2: the people who had passed away during the year.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they always missed people. But what happened last night.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Well, last night they went the other way. They honored
- 5:32Speaker 2: everybody that went. I was the worst part of the show.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I mean they God blessed we'ban mcandar. They had her
- 5:42Speaker 2: sing a song for about ten minutes and the names
- 5:44Speaker 2: would be behind her, you know who passed away, and
- 5:48Speaker 2: they named every attorney and producer, anyone ever connected with
- 5:54Speaker 2: the music business. And then on came I guess they
- 6:00Speaker 2: separated the It looked like they separated white from black.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And then all the rappers came up, and then they
- 6:09Speaker 2: played and sang while they had the names go up
- 6:13Speaker 2: in the back. Same deal. It's kind of crazy, but
- 6:17Speaker 2: they had something for everybody. If you're over the age
- 6:21Speaker 2: of fifty. They had Reba McIntyre. You know, Joni Mitchell
- 6:27Speaker 2: was there. Oh Carol, Yeah, she was there. She didn't
- 6:32Speaker 2: get her She didn't bounce around much. She was pretty
- 6:35Speaker 2: much confined. I think she was in a wheelchair. And
- 6:39Speaker 2: Carol King was a presenter. Now you know her. She
- 6:42Speaker 2: doesn't like to go anywhere. Yeah, so hey, yeah, she
- 6:47Speaker 2: only showed up one time for her own Broadway play.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Oh don't forget share she was there.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, who's the oldest person in the room
- 6:57Speaker 1: share with? I think when that right, she's older than
- 6:59Speaker 1: the Carol.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I think it would be a toss up with her
- 7:04Speaker 2: and Joni.
- 7:06Speaker 1: It was the deal with Justin Bieber. Why was he
- 7:08Speaker 1: up there in his underwear doing that song?
- 7:11Speaker 2: But I know he was. Now, that wasn't the worst
- 7:16Speaker 2: I happened. I happen to appreciate Lady Gaga. But she
- 7:21Speaker 2: came out there with a bird cage on her head,
- 7:24Speaker 2: or I'm not sure it was a bird cage without
- 7:29Speaker 2: a bottom, because she had a bird cage over her
- 7:31Speaker 2: head so you couldn't see her face. That might have
- 7:36Speaker 2: not been It might have not. It might have not
- 7:38Speaker 2: been the worst thing that could happen, though. So she
- 7:42Speaker 2: had that song, she did that song, Abracadaver if you
- 7:45Speaker 2: know that one.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I love all the music, but there's no
- 7:48Speaker 1: reason to look at these people. You can just listen
- 7:50Speaker 1: to it on the radio. You don't need to see them,
- 7:51Speaker 1: do you.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Well. They had a pretty good uh tribute to Ozzy Osbourne.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It was a little, you know, a little rocky, but
- 7:59Speaker 2: it was nice from alone to the good singer. They
- 8:01Speaker 2: had Slash on guitar and the drummer from Chili Peppers.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, speaking of bad Bunny, he's going to be
- 8:09Speaker 1: a halftime entertainment at the super Bowl. Uh. Donald Trump
- 8:13Speaker 1: has announced he will not go to the super Bowl.
- 8:15Speaker 1: He said it's just too far. It's California. But a
- 8:17Speaker 1: lot of people think it's because it's Bad Bunny, who's
- 8:20Speaker 1: going to attack him some point during the halftime show.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Have you have you ever? Can you tell me one
- 8:26Speaker 2: song by Bad Bunny?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Uh? No? Is he any good?
- 8:32Speaker 2: I guess he's good for Spanish speaking people. I mean
- 8:36Speaker 2: it seems to me. You know. The other thing about
- 8:39Speaker 2: the Super Bowl are you have you seen the Buttweiser
- 8:43Speaker 2: commercial yet? No? The one there there's a preview going on,
- 8:47Speaker 2: and it's really really good. Might be one of the
- 8:51Speaker 2: best commercials I've ever seen for the Super Bowl. And
- 8:55Speaker 2: they have good commercials, but this one, it's a it's
- 8:59Speaker 2: really interesting. I mean, they have a Clydesdale horse when
- 9:02Speaker 2: he's young, he's the little baby Clydesdale horse and he's
- 9:06Speaker 2: outside and you see the little bird sitting there in
- 9:09Speaker 2: the rain or the snow or something, and he adopts
- 9:13Speaker 2: this little bird turns out to be a baby eagle,
- 9:17Speaker 2: and it shows them growing up together and hanging out.
- 9:21Speaker 2: It's really heartwarming. They grow up again. They're playing Leonard
- 9:25Speaker 2: Skinner Freebird, you know that song in the background, and
- 9:30Speaker 2: then finally the eagle grows up and he's perched on
- 9:35Speaker 2: the horse's back and he takes off with that big wingspan. Yeah,
- 9:41Speaker 2: and they're playing free bird. And the weird thing about
- 9:45Speaker 2: it and not weird, but they hire that kid Lincoln.
- 9:49Speaker 2: You know the eagle from Philadelphia. Yeah, he's the bald
- 9:56Speaker 2: eagle that flies around during the national anthem at their
- 10:00Speaker 2: home games at Lincoln Financial Field. So that's pretty cool.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yeah. We were telling Scott Shannon, Hey, the Super Bowl
- 10:07Speaker 1: commercials this year, all time record ten million for a
- 10:09Speaker 1: spot on the Super Bowl? Pretty good.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Did they really pay that or not? Do you think?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Well, listen, you're in the broadcasting visits, it's ten million. Yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 1: most people. But you know, if it's a big, big, big, big,
- 10:21Speaker 1: big sponsor, regular all year long spot, maybe you discounted
- 10:25Speaker 1: a little or you're throwing a lot of bonus spots
- 10:27Speaker 1: somewhere else. Yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 2: You know, I heard you mentioned this this morning, and
- 10:32Speaker 2: I'm glad you did, because the liberal press did everything
- 10:37Speaker 2: they could to destroy that Millennium movie. Yeah, milignacuse me,
- 10:43Speaker 2: and they, oh, this isn't going to go anywhere. Who's
- 10:45Speaker 2: going to buy tickets for that? Blah Blah's the worst thing,
- 10:48Speaker 2: you know, And if you read, I saw a collection
- 10:51Speaker 2: of the horrible reviews, and they came up with every
- 10:55Speaker 2: insult they could possibly put together. And then at the
- 11:01Speaker 2: end of the weekend, she came in third overall for
- 11:05Speaker 2: the other all the movies out she had the she
- 11:09Speaker 2: had the third most tickets sold that weekend. Yeah, and
- 11:15Speaker 2: it made what almost eight million dollars?
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, like an all time record for the last thirty
- 11:20Speaker 1: years for a documentary. And the reviews of the public
- 11:26Speaker 1: Rotten Tomatoes, all very high on the movie. They love
- 11:28Speaker 1: the movie.
- 11:29Speaker 2: So more about the critics, they didn't seem to care
- 11:32Speaker 2: for much. Well, wait, you know you said between seven
- 11:37Speaker 2: and eight million dollars? What they were expecting? They thought
- 11:40Speaker 2: in the industry, they thought it'd be greater that she
- 11:43Speaker 2: did between three and five.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Yeah, a big, big hit it's going to have, and
- 11:48Speaker 1: it's got a lot of publicity to have an even
- 11:49Speaker 1: bigger weekend coming up. Hey, before we ran out of time,
- 11:53Speaker 1: what's the deal with Bruce Springsteen with this new protest
- 11:55Speaker 1: sung Is he really is just on principle or is
- 11:58Speaker 1: he trying to get back on the charts.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I believe that. I believe in his principles. I mean,
- 12:05Speaker 2: I think I was shocked that they didn't open up
- 12:11Speaker 2: the show last night at the Grammys with him sitting
- 12:14Speaker 2: there with their guitars singing that song. Yeah, yeah, that
- 12:20Speaker 2: he did show up, But it was in a clip
- 12:23Speaker 2: when they did a tribute to Brian Wilson and he
- 12:28Speaker 2: said he you know, he said he learned a lot
- 12:30Speaker 2: about songwriting from Brian Wilson. But I mean, you listen
- 12:35Speaker 2: to that song. Oh my god, what did he say?
- 12:38Speaker 2: He said, I wrote the song on Saturday, recorded it
- 12:41Speaker 2: on Sunday, and you can really tell that.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's pretty catchy. The melody, the arrangement, it's peppy,
- 12:48Speaker 1: it's life. But why is it so catchy if it's
- 12:50Speaker 1: a protest song. It's about dying, but it's such a
- 12:53Speaker 1: happy melody. It didn't make much sense.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Well, I just really believe in the Johnny Carson theory
- 13:01Speaker 2: about being a public person. You know, I just don't
- 13:05Speaker 2: think you should lean heavily in anyone. Is that our job?
- 13:10Speaker 2: Do people sit around and want to know what Bruce
- 13:13Speaker 2: Springsteen thinks, or or me or you, I don't think.
- 13:20Speaker 1: So I don't even want to know what I think.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I agree with you, so, hey, we're out of time.
- 13:24Speaker 1: But Scott Shannon runs the True Oldies Channel. Where should
- 13:27Speaker 1: people go to hear it?
- 13:29Speaker 2: Well, well, now you can hear something on iHeartRadio and
- 13:34Speaker 2: it's just you just go on iHeart Radio on your computer,
- 13:37Speaker 2: your phone, your laptop, whatever, and just say play Scott
- 13:41Speaker 2: Channon's True Oldies Channel on iHeart Radio or if you're
- 13:44Speaker 2: driving around. If you're driving around you have to have
- 13:47Speaker 2: an HD radio in your car. You just go to
- 13:51Speaker 2: you go to ninety three to two I'm sorry, ninety
- 13:54Speaker 2: two to three HD three and you got it right
- 13:58Speaker 2: there in your car with I think we got well
- 14:00Speaker 2: two commercials an hour. If you like commercials, that's the
- 14:03Speaker 2: wrong place for you.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It's the True Oldiest Channel. Actually, I have it as
- 14:07Speaker 1: a preset on my iHeart app and also on my
- 14:10Speaker 1: car as an HD channel. Or you just go to truel.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah, Trueoldies Channel dot com. And the thing about it
- 14:19Speaker 2: is is oldies now around the country they consider them
- 14:24Speaker 2: eighties and nineties. Yeah, this is and for many people's
- 14:28Speaker 2: that's not an oldie and we do sixties and seventies.
- 14:31Speaker 1: It's true oldie. So just go to True Oldies Channel
- 14:35Speaker 1: on iHeart, or let's go to True Oldieschannel dot com too,
- 14:39Speaker 1: Scott Shannon.
- 14:40Speaker 2: That'll do it.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Thanks for being with.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Us, have a great week.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Bye bye, Mark, all right, talk to you soon. Take
- 14:46Speaker 1: care the great Scott Shannon. Hey, coming up at noon,
- 14:49Speaker 1: Buck and Clay. Don't forget tonight at nine. I love
- 14:52Speaker 1: this show, Jimmy Fail. It's very funny, interesting every night
- 14:56Speaker 1: at nine. It's here on seven to ten WR
