- 0:13the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:17Welcome back to week two of Mini Scroll.
- 0:20I am so excited to be here you guys.
- 0:22So I actually only have one main story for you guys.
- 0:27Not a ton happened over the weekend, so I will get into that
- 0:31in a minute. But I thought it was the perfect
- 0:33opportunity to chat with you about the content that I have
- 0:36been watching. So I know that's something that
- 0:39a lot of you guys are missing. Is our kind of off the cuff
- 0:42content chats keeping you guys up to date, giving you guys
- 0:45recaps of, you know, the favorite shows that I am
- 0:48watching. So there have been two things
- 0:52that have kept me going in these last three to four months and
- 0:56that is Jersey Shore family vacation and bravo of course.
- 1:01So I had never seen Jersey Shore family vacation.
- 1:04That's actually like a mouthful. That's hard to say.
- 1:06Jersey Shore family vacation. Anyways, I had never seen it.
- 1:11I was a massive, massive fan of the original Jersey Shore.
- 1:14I literally can't even explain how much of A place that holds
- 1:18in my heart. The original show.
- 1:20Oh my God, I loved it so much. My friends and I, when we were
- 1:25in first year university, 'cause that's when it came out for me.
- 1:27I was in first year university is when season one aired and we
- 1:31would watch it. It would come out on Thursday
- 1:33nights, so we would all go. We were living in residence in
- 1:35dorms at the time at university and we would go to like the
- 1:39shared TV room on one of our floors and we would all watch it
- 1:44while pre drinking for the bar. And like as you can imagine
- 1:47watching Jersey Shore, especially season one when
- 1:50they're not famous and they're just fucking going for it as
- 1:54your pre drink. Like the thing to get you hyped
- 1:57for the bar. Like nothing was better, nothing
- 2:00was better. So living out my university
- 2:02years while Jersey Shore was airing was so freaking iconic
- 2:05and it was literally before social media.
- 2:07I just actually like I I should do a deep dive on Jersey Shore
- 2:11and that type of like pre social media fame because to me it's so
- 2:16fascinating which is why I have kept up with them, why I'm so
- 2:20interested in continuing to watch family vacation because I
- 2:23find that whole situation fascinating.
- 2:26So I started watching it at the beginning of January, and I'm
- 2:30not done. Like, I'm not up to the current
- 2:32season, but it has like been. It was like a saving grace for
- 2:35me in the first couple months of this year, when everything was
- 2:37like, so hard. I just dove in head first.
- 2:42I was like, I know this is so scripted.
- 2:43I know this is so overproduced. I know this is so stupid, but
- 2:46I'm just gonna, like, lean in. Amazing.
- 2:50The one thing I will say is I'm really upset about the addition
- 2:54of Angelina only because at first I was like not on board at
- 2:57all. And I was like, this is so
- 2:58forced, this is so fake. And then I got on board with her
- 3:01as the group started welcoming her and I started to see like
- 3:04nice little fun tidbits of her personality and I started to
- 3:07like her. And now with her whole wedding
- 3:10thing and the speech, I'm just like, I can't if you guys have
- 3:13watched it, you know, the girls gave like, Snooki J Woww and
- 3:18Dina gave a speech at Angelina's wedding.
- 3:21Yes, the speech was very off. It was so inappropriate.
- 3:27I I agree that it was not something that should have been
- 3:31said at a wedding, but her reaction to it and kind of her
- 3:35subsequent social media behavior post that speech was so toxic.
- 3:40And I was like, damn it, this is like taking us back so far.
- 3:44So I will say the addition of Angelina, while it's been good
- 3:46in the sense of like drama, I don't think it was necessarily
- 3:49needed. Like, I am more down to see the
- 3:51group altogether and then also to see kind of like their
- 3:54individual lives and how they navigate this kind of post
- 3:58Jersey Shore era, like what they're all doing with their
- 4:01families, with their careers. Like, that's what I'm most
- 4:03interested in. And I have heard that the more
- 4:05recent seasons get into that, but I haven't personally seen
- 4:09those yet. So anyways, I think it's a good
- 4:12watch if you guys have that nostalgia bug for Jersey Shore,
- 4:15OK? And the next thing that I wanted
- 4:16to talk about was Summer House. I know we're kind of in a
- 4:20Housewives dry spell right now, so obviously I've watched all of
- 4:23Miami and all of that stuff, but I'm not going to recap that
- 4:25because it's not ongoing. Summer House, Best season of
- 4:29summer house I think we've seen in a very long time, if ever.
- 4:32I think what I love so much about this season is aside from
- 4:35the Lindsay and Carl stuff and some of the Kyle, Amanda stuff,
- 4:38but we always have a little bit of Kyle, Amanda like drama.
- 4:41Aside from Carl and Lindsay and the heaviness around their
- 4:44wedding and Lindsay questioning Carl's sobriety and all of that,
- 4:48you can tell that the group, like, they've just nailed the
- 4:51group. They're all having the best
- 4:52time. This is the most fun I think
- 4:54we've ever seen them have on Summer House, like, as a
- 4:57collective, possibly ever. You can tell that the cast is
- 5:00just having so much fun. They're not taking themselves
- 5:03too seriously. The group has a lot of
- 5:05positivity going on. The energy is just really good.
- 5:08And of course, I am the biggest West and Sierra fan ever.
- 5:15I know that this week he copped a bit of backlash because of
- 5:18what he said about like, wanting to have fun this summer.
- 5:20So if Sierra's not going to sleep with him, then he might
- 5:23not continue things with her. I don't think that's
- 5:25paraphrasing. I don't exactly remember what he
- 5:27said, but I know that some people are kind of like, oh,
- 5:29this is the bad side of West that we anticipated would come
- 5:32out. Because of course, when you see
- 5:34any man on Bravo, you think immediately I love you, but what
- 5:38am I going to find out about you?
- 5:39Like I'm going to be let down. The bar is so low.
- 5:42It is literally like on the floor for men on Bravo, but I
- 5:46don't think that that was like the worst thing that he could
- 5:47have said. I kind of understand what he
- 5:49meant by that. I think he was kind of saying
- 5:50like he didn't anticipate to come in and like start to like
- 5:53someone basically on Summer House and he did come into the
- 5:56season and he can't say this, like he can't break the 4th wall
- 5:59in that way in interviews. But he was like, I can't.
- 6:02I think how I interpreted it is he was saying like I came into
- 6:05the season expecting to, you know, have a lot of fun and they
- 6:10throw all these parties and they go partying in the Hamptons and
- 6:13like you know, sleeping with girls and hooking up and having
- 6:15a good time like that. Like that's the party summer
- 6:18vibe that he expected to have. So like he's OK with now having
- 6:22a crush on Sierra and being into this, but he still wants to have
- 6:25that kind of energy this summer. So he would like to know if they
- 6:30are going to progress or not essentially.
- 6:33But yes, Carl and Lindsay, I don't know.
- 6:36I don't know. I mean, we know they don't get
- 6:37married and it's clearly for the best.
- 6:40Like this season is actually so difficult to watch.
- 6:43And I have been, you guys know I have been on the train of Carl
- 6:47and Lindsay do not make sense. I do not like this relationship
- 6:52since the beginning, and I know I also have more of a soft spot
- 6:57for Carl than I do for Lindsay. And I still do for sure in this
- 7:01season in the sense of like he has worked so hard to maintain
- 7:04his sobriety. I believe he has changed a lot
- 7:07as a person since becoming sober.
- 7:11I know he was like a really horrible guy prior to that, but
- 7:13I think it's post sobriety. He is a much better person.
- 7:16A much yeah. He's just like a more decent
- 7:18guy, but Lindsay constantly questioning his sobriety when,
- 7:23you know, she gets too drunk and angry.
- 7:25But then I can also see the flip side of it where it's like their
- 7:28relationship is obviously not in a great place.
- 7:31They're about to get married. She's clearly very stressed and
- 7:33I think that stress manifests and comes out when she is
- 7:36drinking and she takes it out on him instead of being able to
- 7:39like properly articulate things to him sober and have an actual
- 7:43conversation about like where they stand and if they should
- 7:46actually be getting married. So it's a freaking disaster to
- 7:49watch. I feel bad for both of them.
- 7:51I do. All the cast were doing
- 7:53interviews this year saying just wait.
- 7:55You will see their relationship breakdown.
- 7:57You will see that it was not unexpected for Lindsay and you
- 8:00will see why he chose to do it on camera.
- 8:03I still, I have. Obviously we haven't seen the
- 8:06end. I still think him doing it on
- 8:08camera is super shady and shitty.
- 8:10But I do agree with the other things that the cast was saying,
- 8:12which is like, you will see their relationship breakdown and
- 8:15why they needed to call off the wedding.
- 8:17All right guys, on to the story for today, the news that you
- 8:21need to know from the Internet. This is a freaking weird one.
- 8:25So I'm going to breakdown for you guys Tik Tok's latest meme.
- 8:29And if you have not seen this, these words said altogether will
- 8:32not make any sense to you. But if you have seen it and you
- 8:35have no idea what's going on, or you've seen it in passing and
- 8:38you just thought, this is something that like is not for
- 8:40me and you didn't think to dive into it, you're going to be
- 8:42like, Oh my God, what the fuck? OK, so I'm going to be breaking
- 8:45down the latest meme, which is all about high quality
- 8:49industrial grade glycine from Dong Wong Jin Long.
- 8:53OK, so there is this new TikTok trend right now where people are
- 8:56making like parody ads and joke videos discussing high quality
- 9:02industrial grade glycine from Dong Wong Jinlong.
- 9:06Dong Wong Jinlong is a Chinese company that has a chemical
- 9:09factory that produces industrial grade glycine.
- 9:13Their Tick Tock account at Dong Wan Jin Long began posting ads
- 9:17for their company on December 3rd, 2023.
- 9:19The videos feature AI voiceovers describing the factory, its
- 9:24location, the quality of their glycine, their certifications,
- 9:29and the standards that their glycine complies to.
- 9:32They also regularly reference that the company has been around
- 9:36since 1979 and that they have more than 40 years in the
- 9:39business. Okay.
- 9:40So where this all turned into a meme and how this has popped off
- 9:43and now you might see this in your feed and you might
- 9:46recognize it, is that TikTok user at Gangsta Sportovic posted
- 9:492 videos on March 31st inheriting dog One gin longs
- 9:53glycine videos. Both videos featured AI voices,
- 9:57one had Dasha from the Red Scare podcast and the other featured
- 10:01Nick Mullen from the Come Town podcast.
- 10:05And from there it's snowballed. So these videos got a lot of
- 10:08views and people thought they were so bizarre, Especially if
- 10:13you had not seen any of this in your feed.
- 10:16You're like, what the fuck? So the way that I was introduced
- 10:19to this meme was, I think it was Friday.
- 10:21I was scrolling and I got a TikTok from this person sitting
- 10:25in their car and they said something like you bitches think
- 10:29that the only place to get your high quality industrial grade
- 10:32glycine is from Dong Wong Jinlong.
- 10:35But really blah blah blah blah blah.
- 10:36And like kept going. And I was like, what is this
- 10:38mashup of words? Like what is happening?
- 10:40What side of TikTok have I ended up on?
- 10:42And I just figured that I'd ended up on some type of like
- 10:45really niche manufacturing side of Tiktok, which I guess
- 10:49technically this is, but it's become mainstream because it's
- 10:52so obscure. And so people are making fun of
- 10:55how crazy it is that this manufacturing company is like
- 10:58promoting its chemical glycine to us.
- 11:01And I find this a really interesting, like, marketing
- 11:04case study because on one hand, it does exactly what every
- 11:08company would want to do on Tiktok, which is like, they
- 11:11start posting videos and then consumers create content off the
- 11:16back of that and it blows the company up, it blows this moment
- 11:19up for them. And everybody's like making
- 11:21parody videos and joining in on the joke.
- 11:24And it's actually just like it's it's it's honestly this amazing
- 11:27viral moment to see for this company.
- 11:30But on the other hand, it doesn't really do anything
- 11:32because it's not like consumers are the ones to be buying this
- 11:35product. It's not like when the Sky High
- 11:37mascara went viral and then every consumer went out and
- 11:40spent $7.00 to go try that mascara.
- 11:42Like this is a meme, but it's, you know, for a product that
- 11:46like consumers aren't going to go by.
- 11:48But I think there are a couple reasons why this broke through
- 11:51the noise on TikTok. I think the fact that the
- 11:55advertising of this particular like manufacturing company and
- 11:58product doesn't make sense on TikTok, so that was it was so
- 12:02absurd to begin with that it broke through the noise and it
- 12:06just it felt so different than everything else that we see on
- 12:09TikTok. I think that's one of the
- 12:10biggest reasons and I also think because it is created in this
- 12:15style like this AI style that is really popular with the platform
- 12:18right now. So it like blended these two
- 12:21things, one where it matches the vibe of the platform right now
- 12:25and the new style of content on the platform which is like AI
- 12:28content that we're all kind of trying out.
- 12:31And it's so absurd that it was like this perfect blend and
- 12:37people just thought this is the funniest joke ever.
- 12:39So now if you guys go on your For you page and you type in
- 12:41industrial grade glycine, you will find these videos.
- 12:44Go have a scroll, watch them. They're so freaking funny.
- 12:47And I hope that you are ahead of the trend because it is really
- 12:50just starting to pop off. So you guys can bring this to
- 12:53your bosses at work. You guys can bring this, I don't
- 12:56know, to your friends and say have you guys heard about this
- 12:59'cause it is the latest meme to pop off, but I feel it will be
- 13:02fleeting, like it will literally die in just a couple days.
- 13:06So jump on it if you want to. All right guys.
- 13:10Well that's it for today. Thank you so much for listening
- 13:12to Mini Scroll. Please remember to rate, review
- 13:15and subscribe. It helps me so much.
- 13:17I love you guys and I will talk to you tomorrow.
- 13:20Bye.
