- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. Well, you know what I'm going to
- 0:30tell you, it's secretly it's the evening.
- 0:32I'm trying to tuck all the girls in and of course everyone's
- 0:34arguing about where they're going to sit and I'm standing in
- 0:37the coop waiting for them to pick their spot.
- 0:39So here's an interesting thought to think about.
- 0:44Are you tackling one thought at a time, or are you trying to
- 0:47tackle all your thoughts? I like to refer to this as
- 0:51spiraling because that's when you're trying to tackle all the
- 0:53thoughts at once. And a great way to remember that
- 0:57you're doing that and how bad it is for you is to realize that
- 1:00you're spiraling like a toilet. When a toilet flushes.
- 1:03If you ever watch a toilet flush, it's spiraling.
- 1:06It's just whipping around, whipping around, and that's what
- 1:08your head is doing, which means it's going to suck you in just
- 1:11like it sucks the poo in. And before you know it, you're
- 1:14right down that flusher and you're gone and you're
- 1:18overwhelmed. The way to stop this in a very
- 1:21quick and easy process is to say, what is one thing I can
- 1:25focus on right now? Just one.
- 1:27Pick one thing and focus on that one thing.
- 1:30Don't try to do all of it all at once.
- 1:32And if everything seems to be coming at you and you've had
- 1:34multiple bad things happen all at once and you simply say to
- 1:38yourself, OK, what was the first bad thing that happened?
- 1:41I mean, I've had days like this where it just pig piles one on
- 1:44top of another on top of another.
- 1:46And I have to say, all right, what was the first thing that
- 1:48happened? Could I have done anything about
- 1:50it differently? Could I have handled it any
- 1:51differently? No.
- 1:52OK, then it just happened and I've got to move on.
- 1:55And you, sometimes you just have to go through them one by one.
- 1:58And it and often times it just makes you laugh when you have
- 2:01one of those long days where you're just like, are you
- 2:03kidding me? Really.
- 2:04Something else. And the answer is, sometimes it
- 2:07happens like that. Sometimes our energy is just
- 2:10like that. And sometimes things pile on and
- 2:13that's just what happens. But it's our job to decide how
- 2:17we want to show up with those things.
- 2:19It's our job if we want to take in all those thoughts at the
- 2:22same time or not. And nine times out of 10, it is
- 2:26not. It is just not a good idea.
- 2:28Debriefing yourself with the line of how they happened is
- 2:32great and then tackle them one at a time.
- 2:33Now let's just say it's one doozy of a thing and it starts
- 2:36making you spiral. It was just one thing that
- 2:39happened and it's really making you spiral.
- 2:41Well, guess what? There is a really good chance
- 2:44that that one thing you are now thinking about is making you
- 2:49future pace all the disastrous things that could come from
- 2:52that. So you're just spiraling
- 2:54yourself by thinking about all the things that could happen,
- 2:58not that will happen, but that could happen.
- 3:00And there's a big difference when you start focusing on what
- 3:04could happen instead of what is happening or will happen is it's
- 3:10just going to take you down this nonsensical Rd. that you can't
- 3:13pull yourself out of. So I am a self-proclaimed person
- 3:18who, as you know, if you listen regularly riddled with anxiety,
- 3:21it kind of marries into future pacing and future pacing up.
- 3:25There's a nice plane flying right over my head.
- 3:29It, it just kind of marries into it.
- 3:30And before you know it, here you are dealing with both those
- 3:33things. And again, not fun.
- 3:35Neither of them are fun. And I have to remind myself
- 3:38often that future pacing is not going to help me right now.
- 3:41I like to save my future pacing now for things that are
- 3:45valuable, like planning the garden, goal setting, intention
- 3:50setting, coming up with new recipes, coming up with new
- 3:53ideas, coming up with new ways to shoot photos, coming up with
- 3:56new videos, coming up with new podcasts.
- 3:58My future pacing is all about that stuff.
- 4:01Planning vacations, planning things I want to do with my
- 4:04family, thinking about what I want to put on my Christmas
- 4:06tree. It can go to all of those things
- 4:09and have a really, really good time.
- 4:12It doesn't have to go to the crappy side of putting you in
- 4:15the toilet while you're swirling around like poop in that
- 4:19position. So you have to decide how you
- 4:22want to approach it. One thought at a time is the key
- 4:26for me. Sometimes that one thought at a
- 4:28time is so simple. I think to myself, well, I can't
- 4:32just make it that simple, but yes, you can.
- 4:35Usually you have to remind yourself that when emotions go
- 4:39up, your intelligence goes down. So as soon as that happens, you
- 4:42have a choice. You have a big choice.
- 4:45You can say, all right, I'm being very emotional and I'm not
- 4:48qualified to have these thoughts right now, so I'm not going to
- 4:51let myself. I'm going to calm myself down
- 4:53and then I'll do something about it.
- 4:55Very important, my friends, Very, very important.
- 4:59So one thought at a time. Stay out of the toilet.
- 5:02No future pacing. Unless it's about calming
- 5:05yourself down. Stick with it.
- 5:08I promise this will help. All right, my friends, I will
- 5:11see you tomorrow and I hope you have a blessed day.
- 5:14Bye.
