- 0:01Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN Youngstown.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Gavin Williams, another tremendous outing. He goes seven innings today,
- 0:16Speaker 2: made 94 pitches, gave up one run, only three hits,
- 0:21Speaker 2: struck out four, walked two, hit a batter. He got
- 0:24Speaker 2: better as the game went on, retired the last 19
- 0:28Speaker 2: men he faced. Tim Herron to Jacob Young. First pitch wide.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Ball one. Hunter Gattis warming in the Cleveland pen. The left-hander.
- 0:42Speaker 2: He's ready. And the 1-0 pitch. In there. Tim Herron.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Appearance number 23. 2-12 ERA. 13 strikeouts. 12 walks in
- 0:52Speaker 2: 17 innings.
- 0:53Speaker 3: The pitch.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Swung on, this is hit high in the air. Medium
- 1:03Speaker 2: deep left toward the line to run it down Angel Martinez.
- 1:08Speaker 2: And to bring up the leadoff man, James Wood, left
- 1:10Speaker 2: on left. Walk, double, and then Angel Martinez robbed him
- 1:17Speaker 2: of an extra base hit in left field his last time.
- 1:21Speaker 2: James Wood, this series, eight, four, 11. Now the pitch
- 1:33Speaker 2: down and away, ball one. He is some kind of impressive.
- 1:44Speaker 2: 972 OPS. The pitch, waved out through that slider right
- 1:51Speaker 2: by him. One ball, one strike. Well, the Guardians and
- 1:54Speaker 2: PNC Bank go to bat for small business. PNC Bank
- 1:58Speaker 2: honors six local businesses making a difference. That pitch painted
- 2:03Speaker 2: the outer edge. One ball, two strikes. Gavin Williams in
- 2:09Speaker 2: line to win his American League leading eighth game at Cleveland's.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Bullpen does its usual stellar job. Pitch down and away.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Two and two. Cleveland overall in Major League Baseball. Seventh
- 2:29Speaker 2: out of 30 teams an earned run average. The 2-2.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Swing and a foul to the upper deck behind the plate.
- 2:37Speaker 2: We'll do it again at 2-2. Outfield shaded the other
- 2:50Speaker 2: way toward left deep. The pitch. Strike three called. Paralyzing curveball.
- 2:59Speaker 2: James Wood. Out number two, and that'll bring up Luis Garcia.
- 3:06Speaker 2: He's 0-3. Manager Steven Vogt said this morning in his
- 3:12Speaker 2: office that with tomorrow being an off day, and now
- 3:18Speaker 2: Andres Chaparro will pinch hit for Luis Garcia, a right-handed batter.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Heron's pitch, and it's outside. voter was saying, I need
- 3:31Speaker 2: to get all my late-inning guys in the ballgame. Like Heron,
- 3:36Speaker 2: like Gattis, like Smith, the pitch, and a swing and
- 3:41Speaker 2: a miss trying to hold up one and one. If
- 3:45Speaker 2: you want to call it a silver lining, if you're
- 3:48Speaker 2: going to get beat by getting battered Monday and Tuesday night,
- 3:52Speaker 2: those back-end guys got a couple of nights off. That
- 3:56Speaker 2: pitch down low, 2-1, but with an off day tomorrow,
- 4:00Speaker 2: the old adage of a bullpen, they're either getting too
- 4:03Speaker 2: much work or not enough. There never seems to be
- 4:05Speaker 2: that happy medium, so you really would like all of
- 4:09Speaker 2: them to get into the game. Now the 2-1, swung on,
- 4:15Speaker 2: skied in the air to left, down the line, drifting foul,
- 4:19Speaker 2: out of play, and a 2-2 count on Chaparro. Andres Chaparro.
- 4:26Speaker 2: We saw him last night get a big two-run hit
- 4:29Speaker 2: late to Kenna. Removed all doubt. Two down, nobody on.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Cleveland up two in the eighth. Now the 2-2 Swing
- 4:55Speaker 2: and a miss! Tried to hold up, went around. What
- 4:58Speaker 2: an ending for Tim Herron. He dominated Washington here in
- 5:02Speaker 2: the eighth, and Cleveland stays up 3-1.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Our yoga instructor challenged us to find inner peace. I
- 5:10Speaker 4: found it faster than anyone. After four seconds, I stood
- 5:13Speaker 4: up and screamed, I found Nirvana!
- 5:14Speaker 2: I win!
- 5:16Speaker 1: They asked me to leave.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I guess they don't respect winning. Bet365 does, though. New

- 5:36Speaker 7: Progressive No Sports brings people together. But you gotta feel
- 5:39Speaker 7: bad for people who don't even get it. Some people
- 5:41Speaker 7: will never know what it's like to see their favorite
- 5:43Speaker 7: team's hopes decided by a ping pong ball to draft
- 5:45Speaker 7: the next superstar.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Or not.
- 5:49Speaker 7: I mean, sure, it's silly for your happiness to hinge
- 5:51Speaker 7: on the success of a 20-year-old entry-level employee. But you
- 5:53Speaker 7: just can't help yourself.
- 5:54Speaker 1: The stress is exhilarating.
- 5:56Speaker 7: Progressive can't bring people together like the draft, but we
- 5:59Speaker 7: can bring your home and auto insurance together with a bundle.

- 6:03Speaker 7: Casualty Insurance Company affiliates and other insurers not available in
- 6:05Speaker 7: all states or situations.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Swung on, there's a high fly ball. Launched to right field.
- 6:11Speaker 2: A run, Jose Ramirez. This is Jim Rosenhouse, and you
- 6:16Speaker 2: are listening to the Cleveland Clinic Guardians Radio Network.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Ford is here for those who build America.
- 6:27Speaker 8: Those who believe that giving everything we've got today will
- 6:30Speaker 8: pay off tomorrow.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Who will drive America forward for 250 years to come.
- 6:37Speaker 5: If that's who you are, you value what we value.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Now offering employee pricing. American value for American values. Go
- 6:47Speaker 5: to Ford.com or your local Ford dealer for more information.
- 6:52Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN Youngstown.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Another Minneapolis native, Gus Varlin. Yeah, that's right. He's Louie
- 7:08Speaker 2: Varlin's brother. He's got a good fastball and a good slider.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Louie Varlin, whom the Twins traded to Toronto. This is
- 7:18Speaker 2: his bro. Literally. Gus Varlin, his brother. They both pitched
- 7:24Speaker 2: at Concordia University. Right-hander to Stephen Kwan down low. Ball one.
- 7:30Speaker 2: It's a 3-1 ball game. Cleveland. Has the lead in
- 7:34Speaker 2: the eighth inning. Stephen Kwan is one for three with
- 7:38Speaker 2: a single. The pitch. Backed him off to play 2-0. Varlin, a.
- 7:46Speaker 2: 398 ERA, 22nd appearance. He also has four saves. Pretty
- 7:51Speaker 2: much everybody in that bullpen gets used at some point
- 7:54Speaker 2: to save a game. The pitch. And it's ripped foul
- 7:59Speaker 2: down the right side. And a 2-1 count. So far today,
- 8:08Speaker 2: Stephen Kwan, one for three with a single. But the
- 8:11Speaker 2: two outs were both line drive outs. Now the 2-1 delivery.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Inside corner strike, 2-2. Gus Farland. He's ready. Here it comes.
- 8:36Speaker 2: And it's swung on. Golfed in the air to medium
- 8:39Speaker 2: deep center at best. Young retires. Kwon one down. Cade
- 8:44Speaker 2: Smith in the ninth inning is going to face 3-4-5
- 8:49Speaker 2: in Lakeview Terra's lineup. Austin Hedges 0-3. Done a great
- 8:56Speaker 2: job behind the plate again. Gavin Williams seven dominant innings.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And then Tim Herron Might be the best we've seen
- 9:05Speaker 2: him throw this year, working the eighth. Austin Hedges takes
- 9:10Speaker 2: in tight, snapping his head out of there. Ball one.
- 9:13Speaker 6: 19,559, 19,559.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Righty, righty encounter. Varlin's ready. Here it comes. A swing
- 9:27Speaker 2: and a line drive to left, but it hung up.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Reaching up to snag it is Lyle. Boy, Hedges is
- 9:33Speaker 2: a completely different hitter this year than in past seasons
- 9:38Speaker 2: here in Cleveland. Here's Brian Rocchio. 1-4-3 with a double.
- 9:44Speaker 2: He'll bat left-handed. Two down in the eighth with Cleveland
- 9:48Speaker 2: on top, 3-1. 19,559 on this.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Pleasant Wednesday afternoon.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Here off the lakefront. That pitch in there. Strike on one.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Now the 0-1 delivery. Down in the dirt. Ball one,
- 10:16Speaker 2: strike one. Boston. Coming to town this weekend, they interplayed
- 10:24Speaker 2: at a 22-31. Last in the East, they've lost four
- 10:28Speaker 2: in a row. They've had an awful year. The 1-1.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Swung on, socked high in the air. Fairly deep center,
- 10:36Speaker 2: but playable for Young. And Cleveland goes in order. Boy,
- 10:41Speaker 2: the Red Sox, they fired their manager, Alex Cora. You
- 10:44Speaker 2: wonder how much longer Craig Breslow has as the head
- 10:47Speaker 2: of the baseball operations because... The Red Sox ownership, they
- 10:53Speaker 2: fired their president of baseball ops probably more often than
- 10:58Speaker 2: people change socks. So you win a World Series, it
- 11:02Speaker 2: means your days are numbered in Boston. And boy, they
- 11:05Speaker 2: haven't gone through a year like this in a while.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Interesting to talk to their folks this weekend. In the meantime,
- 11:12Speaker 2: Kay Smith will try to continue his domination. 3-1 Cleveland,
- 11:16Speaker 2: ninth inning next.
- 11:20Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN, Youngstown.
- 11:28Speaker 2: First pitch strike from closer Cade Smith to Curtis Mead.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Ninth inning, 3-1 Cleveland. Righty-righty encounter. The pitch. Fouled upstairs, 0-2.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Mid-to-upper 90s. Fastball for Cade Smith. Slider split. He has
- 11:44Speaker 2: not had a blown save since mid-April. Since that time...
- 11:50Speaker 2: Cade Smith fires. Check swing foul to the right. Still 0-2.
- 11:55Speaker 2: 15 consecutive saves for Cade Smith since mid-April. His earned
- 12:02Speaker 2: run average since mid-April, 1.08. The pitch. Outside by a whisker. 1-2.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Cade Smith since mid-April has given up two earned runs.
- 12:20Speaker 2: The pitch. Inside almost hit him. Somehow he skipped out
- 12:24Speaker 2: of the way. The other thing about the 15 straight saves.
- 12:32Speaker 2: 26 strikeouts. Two walks in that stretch. The pitch. Swing
- 12:38Speaker 2: and a liner. Left field. Base hit. Now the tying
- 12:41Speaker 2: run to the plate in C.J. Abrams. Kane Smith leads
- 12:46Speaker 2: Major League Baseball, 18 saves, 20 save opportunities. 2-0 on
- 12:53Speaker 2: the year, ERA 245. On the year, 37 strikeouts, 5
- 13:00Speaker 2: walks in 25 innings. Abrams, 1 for 2, an RBI double.
- 13:06Speaker 2: The pitch, and it's down and in, splitter. This is
- 13:11Speaker 2: the most dangerous hitter Right now in the ninth inning
- 13:16Speaker 2: for Kate Smith. 12 homers, 47 RBI campaign. He checks,
- 13:23Speaker 2: takes outside. Again, borderline. And they count 2-0. Smith doesn't
- 13:32Speaker 2: waste any time. Here it comes. And a swing and
- 13:37Speaker 2: a chopper by the diving man. Sardo into right, base hit.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Motoring to third is Meade. And we haven't seen this
- 13:44Speaker 2: in a while. Nationals at the corners. Nobody out against
- 13:50Speaker 2: Kate Smith in the ninth. 3-1 Cleveland. Here's Dale and
- 13:54Speaker 2: Lyle 0-3. See your Northern Ohio Toyota dealers. The new
- 14:03Speaker 2: Toyota Tacoma. More powerfully efficient. I-Force Max hybrid engine. Toyota,
- 14:10Speaker 2: let's go places. Down the set. Now the pitch. Outside,
- 14:16Speaker 2: ball one. Infield. Double play depth up the middle. Manzardo
- 14:24Speaker 2: holds the runner at third. Near the cut of the
- 14:27Speaker 2: grass at third is Schneeman. The next delivery. Fouled off
- 14:32Speaker 2: to the left. One ball, one strike. Kate Smith, last
- 14:37Speaker 2: pitch this weekend in Philly. Three days ago. 3-1 Cleveland,
- 14:48Speaker 2: but runners at the corners. Nobody out in the Washington 9th.
- 14:52Speaker 2: The pitch. Checked on a split down and in. He
- 14:55Speaker 2: didn't go. And they count 2-1. Washington trying to sweep Cleveland,
- 15:03Speaker 2: but they'd have to have a stunning rally here in
- 15:05Speaker 2: the 9th for that to happen. The 2-1 pitch. Swung on,
- 15:11Speaker 2: hit in the air, medium deep left. This will get
- 15:13Speaker 2: a run home. Martinez will catch and throw to second.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Meade will tag and score. Abrams will stay at first.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Lyle with his 27th RBI on the sack fly. And
- 15:25Speaker 2: it's 3-2 Cleveland. One out, one on, ninth inning. And
- 15:31Speaker 2: now the batter will be Jose Tena. Three times a
- 15:37Speaker 2: ground out to first. Boston in town Friday night. Dollar Dogs, fireworks, tickets, CLEGuardians.com. Smith,
- 15:50Speaker 2: the pitch, runner goes, pitch outside, edges, at a second,
- 15:53Speaker 2: no chance. What a jump by Abrams. Tying run at second.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Eighth steal for Abrams. And this is when they count.
- 16:04Speaker 2: You're down a run in the ninth inning. If you're
- 16:08Speaker 2: out at second, game over. Now a base hit here
- 16:11Speaker 2: ties the game. Tenna awaits the 1-0. Here it comes.
- 16:18Speaker 2: He waves at it. 1-1 the count. Marathon's here to
- 16:23Speaker 2: keep you and your team fueled all summer long. Marathon
- 16:26Speaker 2: driven together. 3-2 Cleveland. Tying run at second. One out.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Washington ninth. The pitch. Down at the knees, a strike called.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Tenna didn't think so, but he didn't challenge. One ball,
- 16:47Speaker 2: two strikes. The set, the pitch. Fouled it, third base side.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Washington has both their challenges left. Cleveland has been out
- 17:02Speaker 2: of challenges since the first inning. Now the one-two delivery.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Got him swinging on a splitter. Actually foul-tipped it into
- 17:19Speaker 2: the glove of Hedges. That is out number two. What
- 17:25Speaker 2: a job by Hedges. So the last out for the
- 17:32Speaker 2: Washington Nationals. And it'll be... Jorbeat Bibas, the left-handed hitting
- 17:42Speaker 2: second baseman. Tying run at second. Two down, ninth inning,
- 17:51Speaker 2: 3-2 Cleveland. Bibas 0-2. Foul tips at strike one. By
- 18:00Speaker 2: the way, St. Louis Cardinal right-hander Dustin May as a
- 18:05Speaker 2: no-hitter through seven innings, Cardinals and Brewers. 1-0 St. Louis.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Now the 0-1 pitch. Down and in. One ball, one strike.
- 18:24Speaker 2: 19,000 plus on their feet at the corner of Carnegie
- 18:27Speaker 2: and Ontario. The 1-1 delivery. Just a bit down and away.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Two balls and a strike. Not seeing sliders today. Obviously,
- 18:40Speaker 2: Kate Smith feels good about the fastball and the split.
- 18:50Speaker 2: He's ready. He fires. And he nicked the inside corner.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Now a challenge by Beavis. Well, you might as well.
- 18:58Speaker 2: You have two left. Can't take them back to our
- 19:03Speaker 2: nation's capital. He lost the challenge, but really no harm
- 19:09Speaker 2: in challenging. So now a 2-2 count with two outs.
- 19:13Speaker 2: 3-2 Cleveland, ninth inning. Cade Smith. One strike away from
- 19:23Speaker 2: a 16th consecutive save. The Vancouver native is ready. Here
- 19:31Speaker 2: it comes. Strike three called.
- 19:35Speaker 9: Ball game.
- 19:37Speaker 2: He took a 99-mile-an-hour heater right down Euclid Avenue. Cleveland
- 19:44Speaker 2: salvages the finale 3-2.

- 26:04Speaker 2: game going in Milwaukee. Dustin May of the Cardinals had
- 26:08Speaker 2: a no-hitter into the seventh, but Garrett Mitchell broke it
- 26:12Speaker 2: up with a double, and the Cardinals still lead that
- 26:15Speaker 2: game by a score of 1-0 in the bottom half
- 26:18Speaker 2: of the eighth inning. Two of the top clubs in
- 26:20Speaker 2: the National League Central having at it in Milwaukee in
- 26:23Speaker 2: a matinee. Another day game up in Toronto. The Blue
- 26:27Speaker 2: Jays lead the Marlins 2-1 at the Rogers Center. That
- 26:31Speaker 2: game in the bottom half of the seventh inning. The
- 26:33Speaker 2: Giants and Diamondbacks are underway out in San Francisco, as
- 26:38Speaker 2: are the Mariners in athletics in Sacramento. That game's actually
- 26:42Speaker 2: in the top half of the third inning. Seattle leads
- 26:44Speaker 2: it by a score of 3-0 on Rob Refsnyder's three-run
- 26:48Speaker 2: home run. Rest of the action later on or tonight
- 26:52Speaker 2: right here. The one final in Major League Baseball. The
- 26:56Speaker 2: Guardians defeated the Nationals by a final score of 3-2.
- 27:00Speaker 2: And we will have our Honda Drive-It-Home Game Summary coming
- 27:04Speaker 2: your way after this.
- 27:05Speaker 1: P.com.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Guardians a winner today here at home by a final
- 27:14Speaker 2: score of 3-2. They salvaged the finale of this three-game
- 27:18Speaker 2: series against Washington. Time for our Honda Drive-It-Home Game Summary.
- 27:23Speaker 2: And once again, Washington took a lead in this one,
- 27:26Speaker 2: but not a large lead. That's been the issue the
- 27:29Speaker 2: last couple of nights. Gavin Williams was on the mound
- 27:31Speaker 2: today for the Guardians, and in the third inning, James
- 27:35Speaker 2: Wood led off the inning with a double. What a
- 27:37Speaker 2: series he had. He finished with eight hits in the
- 27:40Speaker 2: three games, including a couple of home runs, and he
- 27:42Speaker 2: was driven in with the game's first run by C.J. Abrams,
- 27:46Speaker 2: who doubled with two outs to make it 1-0 Washington.
- 27:49Speaker 2: and it stayed that way until the bottom half of
- 27:52Speaker 2: the fifth inning. That's when the Guardians sent nine men
- 27:55Speaker 2: to the plate and scored three times to take the lead.
- 27:59Speaker 2: The inning started with Austin Hedges reaching on an error
- 28:02Speaker 2: by third baseman Curtis Meade. Then after one was out,
- 28:06Speaker 2: Travis Buzana doubled to put runners at second and third,
- 28:09Speaker 2: and Jose Ramirez tied it with a sack fly to center,
- 28:13Speaker 2: plating Austin Hedges from third and tying the game at one.
- 28:16Speaker 2: After a pitching change, Chase DeLauder stepped to the plate.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Chase DeLauder will step in. He's lined to right and
- 28:23Speaker 2: flied to center. Swung the bat well today. Will he
- 28:26Speaker 2: get something to show for it now as he swings?
- 28:28Speaker 2: Lines it to left. Sinking fast. Base hit. Rounding third.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Heading for home. Bazana. The throw. He's in. Standing up.
- 28:37Speaker 2: And the rookies come through. DeLauder with a go-ahead RBI.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Single 2-1 Cleveland. The next batter, Kyle Manzardo, singled, and
- 28:49Speaker 2: then Angel Martinez stepped in in a key spot. Here's
- 28:53Speaker 2: the pitch, and it's swung on, line, shallow center, and
- 28:57Speaker 2: it gets down for a base hit. Scoring is DeLauder,
- 29:01Speaker 2: up to second. Manzardo, RBI single for Angel Martinez. 3-1, Guardians. Well,
- 29:12Speaker 2: that proved to be a huge run, as the Nationals
- 29:14Speaker 2: would say, Nick Cade-Smith for a run in the ninth
- 29:17Speaker 2: inning on a sack fly from Dalen Lyle, but it
- 29:20Speaker 2: was not enough as Smith slammed the door with a
- 29:24Speaker 2: strikeout of Jose Tena, and then Jorby Bibas was at
- 29:28Speaker 2: the plate with Smith trying to end it. Cade-Smith, one
- 29:33Speaker 2: strike away from a 16th consecutive save. The Vancouver native
- 29:39Speaker 2: is ready. here it comes strike three called ball game
- 29:46Speaker 2: he took a 99 mile an hour heater right down
- 29:50Speaker 2: euclid avenue cleveland salvages the finale three to two So
- 29:58Speaker 2: a good finish for the Guardians as they salvage the
- 30:00Speaker 2: finale of the series. 3-2 the final score. Three runs,
- 30:04Speaker 2: ten hits, no errors. And the Guardians leave nine men
- 30:08Speaker 2: on base. Two runs, five hits, one error. Five men
- 30:10Speaker 2: left for Washington. The winning pitcher, Gavin Williams, now 8-3
- 30:15Speaker 2: with seven strong innings of one-run, three-hit baseball. He retired
- 30:20Speaker 2: the last 19 batters he faced. Tim Herron with a hold.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Cade Smith with his Major League best. 19th save. Miles
- 30:28Speaker 2: Michaelis took the loss, falling to 1-4. Time of today's game,
- 30:33Speaker 2: 2 hours, 22 minutes, and the paid crowd here at

- 32:47Speaker 2: Welcome back to Guardians Wrap-Up. Jim Rosenhouse back with you
- 32:50Speaker 2: at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland, where the Guardians win
- 32:53Speaker 2: it today by a final score of 3-2, excelling in
- 32:57Speaker 2: a lot of areas. Let's hear about it from manager
- 32:59Speaker 2: Steven Vogt.
- 33:01Speaker 15: You make a gap in the day in how he
- 33:03Speaker 15: was able to kind of lock in after first two innings.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 33:05Speaker 16: I mean, they made him throw a ton of pitches
- 33:08Speaker 16: there early and did what he had to do and
- 33:10Speaker 16: had three quick innings there in the middle. I thought
- 33:13Speaker 16: he got sharper as the day went. I thought his
- 33:15Speaker 16: stuff got better. but we needed those quick innings and, um, he,
- 33:20Speaker 16: he was outstanding.
- 33:22Speaker 15: It's a weird thing in baseball, but when he got
- 33:24Speaker 15: those quick innings, you can't even see the guys getting
- 33:27Speaker 15: back in the dugout. How much do you think that
- 33:28Speaker 15: helped the offense kind of click?
- 33:29Speaker 6: I mean, that's everything. The longer we're out in the field,
- 33:34Speaker 6: the less energy we have when we come back in.
- 33:36Speaker 16: I mean, that's, that's baseball. You know, we joke, there's
- 33:38Speaker 16: no time of possession, but we talk about it all
- 33:40Speaker 16: the time.
- 33:41Speaker 6: Um, it's, it's big. And, uh, we've seen that in
- 33:44Speaker 6: the series, right.
- 33:45Speaker 16: And, uh, gavin was phenomenal getting us back in quickly
- 33:48Speaker 16: keep the momentum going on offense.
- 33:52Speaker 17: This is another sign of his maturity odor that that
- 33:56Speaker 17: gavin can kind of overcome some real bumpiness like that
- 34:00Speaker 17: early on and settle.
- 34:01Speaker 16: In yeah i mean gavin gavin made a bunch of
- 34:04Speaker 16: in-season adjustments last year and now he's making in-game adjustments
- 34:08Speaker 16: i mean that's the progression of a of a big
- 34:11Speaker 16: league pitcher of a big league player. You have to
- 34:13Speaker 16: be able to make in-game adjustments at bat to a
- 34:15Speaker 16: bat pitch to pitch.
- 34:17Speaker 6: Um, and we're seeing that growth from Gavin and being
- 34:19Speaker 6: able to repeat and execute. And, uh, he was phenomenal.
- 34:23Speaker 15: Two young guys that just woke up. You've been around
- 34:25Speaker 15: baseball a long time. Neither one of them seems like
- 34:27Speaker 15: a rookie. What stands out to you about how they
- 34:29Speaker 15: carry themselves?
- 34:30Speaker 6: They're confident. Um, they know that they know they belong
- 34:33Speaker 6: in the big leagues.
- 34:34Speaker 16: You know, we talk all the time about our guys,
- 34:36Speaker 16: you know, when you get here, you're happy and you
- 34:38Speaker 16: got to figure out how to stay.
- 34:40Speaker 6: And then you, it clicks. I know I'm a big leaguer.
- 34:42Speaker 16: And from day one, both Travis and Chase, when they
- 34:45Speaker 16: walked through the door, they know they're big leaguers and
- 34:48Speaker 16: they're playing like it.
- 34:48Speaker 6: How are you going to spend your off day? I'm
- 34:52Speaker 6: going home actually.
- 34:54Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 6: Fly home for a day. What do you think of
- 34:56Speaker 6: how the guys got through this stretch? Yeah. Um, 26
- 35:02Speaker 6: games in 27 days and, uh, 13 in a row again.
- 35:07Speaker 6: And to come out of it, nine and four.
- 35:09Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 6: That's pretty good. I think anybody would take that or
- 35:13Speaker 6: whatever our record was.
- 35:13Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 35:15Speaker 16: But I just couldn't be more proud of them. I mean,
- 35:17Speaker 16: I thought they played excellent. They showed up. They were
- 35:20Speaker 16: ready to play. They didn't let two tough nights get
- 35:24Speaker 16: them down. You can't have mood swings in this game.
- 35:27Speaker 16: You've got to be consistent. And the guys were phenomenal.
- 35:29Speaker 16: They worked their backsides off, had a tough weather road trip,
- 35:34Speaker 16: get some really good teams, and we played well.
- 35:38Speaker 6: We don't see much of James Wood. I'm just curious.
- 35:40Speaker 17: You may be happy he's not in the AL Central.
- 35:43Speaker 17: What are your general impressions of him? What stands out to.
- 35:45Speaker 6: You about him?
- 35:47Speaker 16: I think there's a lot. The number one is the
- 35:50Speaker 16: at-bat quality. He does not look fooled. He is on
- 35:53Speaker 16: every pitch. He's just so calm. I think that's really
- 35:57Speaker 16: what stands out about him. It just looks like he's
- 36:00Speaker 16: in the box. What are you going to throw? Then
- 36:04Speaker 16: it just explodes and He made a nice catch in
- 36:07Speaker 16: the outfield. He's just a really good baseball player, and
- 36:10Speaker 16: he's been good for a couple years now. This isn't new,
- 36:14Speaker 16: but it's good for the game to have guys like that,
- 36:17Speaker 16: and I'm not upset that they're getting on a flight today.
- 36:22Speaker 2: And a little bonus coverage for you on our wrap-up
- 36:24Speaker 2: show today. Also down in the media room, Chatting about
- 36:28Speaker 2: today's win, they were key in the fifth inning in
- 36:31Speaker 2: the rally that won it for the Guardians, Travis Bozzana
- 36:34Speaker 2: and Chase DeLauder, two outstanding rookies.
- 36:38Speaker 15: Chase, what impresses you about Travis' at-bats when you get
- 36:40Speaker 15: to watch him up close?
- 36:42Speaker 18: Extremely consistent. I mean, whether he's swinging it out or not,
- 36:45Speaker 18: I mean, you can't tell, right? Like, he shows up
- 36:48Speaker 18: every day, has competitive at-bats, works the box, like, doesn't
- 36:52Speaker 18: swing at balls, hits the strikes hard.
- 36:54Speaker 6: I mean, what more can you ask for? Conversely, Travis,
- 36:57Speaker 6: just whether it was maybe watching Chase playoffs last year
- 37:01Speaker 6: or early this season, like what have you been able
- 37:04Speaker 6: to take away from following what he's done up here?
- 37:07Speaker 19: Yeah, we, we got to know each other a little
- 37:09Speaker 19: better throughout the off season and in January a little bit, um,
- 37:12Speaker 19: working together.
- 37:13Speaker 6: And, uh, I mean, it's different.
- 37:16Speaker 19: He's, uh, yeah, I've seen him do some pretty incredible
- 37:21Speaker 19: things and obviously we've all seen that, but, um, yeah,
- 37:25Speaker 19: he's going to be great for a long time. And
- 37:27Speaker 19: Chase is one of the most skilled and athletic and
- 37:31Speaker 19: powerful baseball players I've ever seen.
- 37:34Speaker 15: Travis, um, I was just talking to you out there
- 37:36Speaker 15: and I didn't want to bring up missing that home run,
- 37:38Speaker 15: but you got a guy as.
- 37:40Speaker 6: Tall as James Wood.
- 37:41Speaker 15: Like it didn't even look like he jumped, but did
- 37:42Speaker 15: you think you got, got it enough to get it
- 37:44Speaker 15: out of here?
- 37:45Speaker 1: I flushed it.
- 37:46Speaker 19: I hit, looking back, I hit a little higher than
- 37:49Speaker 19: I would have liked to optimize it, you know, but, um, Yeah, he, like,
- 37:57Speaker 19: I mean, wingspan and, yeah, made a really great play.
- 38:01Speaker 1: So he's an.
- 38:03Speaker 6: Extremely good player.
- 38:03Speaker 19: And the kind of control of his at-bats and defense
- 38:09Speaker 19: with the size and power is quite impressive.
- 38:13Speaker 9: Chase, were you sitting slider when they brought Lovelady in there?
- 38:17Speaker 6: Not necessarily.
- 38:18Speaker 18: I mean, just like I've been getting in deep counts quick,
- 38:22Speaker 18: you know, unintentionally. So just trying to get something out
- 38:25Speaker 18: of the plate early and, you know, just, just get
- 38:27Speaker 18: it out there. And, uh, you know, thankfully I found some,
- 38:29Speaker 18: found some green.
- 38:30Speaker 2: You had a couple of holes this, this series, just,
- 38:33Speaker 2: you know, pin them on the does, but hadn't had.
- 38:34Speaker 15: A lot to show for it was nice to hear.
- 38:35Speaker 12: Absolutely.
- 38:36Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 38:39Speaker 9: What's, what allowed you to kind of carry the same
- 38:41Speaker 9: approach to the leadoff spot and get some results?
- 38:45Speaker 6: Nothing. Just trying to stick with a good process. I'll
- 38:49Speaker 6: kind of hop on it.
- 38:50Speaker 19: Hopefully all year long is that, I swing at good pitches.
- 38:54Speaker 1: I'm on time.
- 38:55Speaker 19: My preparation for the game is good. The hits, the x-rays, hits,
- 39:00Speaker 19: the walks, those things will come. There might be some waves,
- 39:03Speaker 19: but I've just been on the process and I'm comfortable
- 39:06Speaker 19: leading off.
- 39:07Speaker 6: Travis, you kind of got things going in that fifth inning.
- 39:09Speaker 15: How did you like the way that everyone kind of
- 39:11Speaker 15: followed suit and kept things going to get that advantage going?
- 39:14Speaker 19: Yeah, there was actually a really good energy in the
- 39:16Speaker 19: dugout kind of right before that offensive inning.
- 39:19Speaker 1: The staff was up.
- 39:21Speaker 19: The players, like, like we picked up our energy and
- 39:25Speaker 19: so to to get it rolling then um put together
- 39:29Speaker 19: what we might have put together seven all right good
- 39:31Speaker 19: at bats in a row or something that inning so
- 39:34Speaker 19: that's what it's all about we just gotta find a
- 39:36Speaker 19: way to do that as often as possible um and
- 39:39Speaker 19: convert when we got runners in scoring.
- 39:40Speaker 9: Position you do something or say something to bring that
- 39:43Speaker 9: energy up it's just.
- 39:44Speaker 19: Like you get a zero like i think gab got
- 39:47Speaker 19: a quick zero there And that is, like, as much as, yeah,
- 39:52Speaker 19: the momentum shift, you could kind of feel it. It
- 39:55Speaker 19: might have been a six-pitch, I'm guessing, inning, something like that.
- 39:59Speaker 19: And everyone ran in, and it's like, hey, now we go. Like,
- 40:01Speaker 19: that was our cue. Obviously, you want to do it
- 40:04Speaker 19: every inning, but, like, you could feel it, and we
- 40:07Speaker 19: took advantage of that.
- 40:08Speaker 9: I think I've got the one running across, too, but
- 40:11Speaker 9: what's it like playing behind Cade Smith right now?
- 40:13Speaker 6: And he's been blocked out.
- 40:14Speaker 5: Yeah, man.
- 40:16Speaker 18: Feels automatic, right? Like, you know, of course we, we
- 40:19Speaker 18: trust our defense to have his back and, you know,
- 40:21Speaker 18: but man, just, you know, watch, I've seen him from
- 40:23Speaker 18: the dugout, seen him from the field. It's, I mean,
- 40:26Speaker 18: that stuff is tough to hit, you know, whether you're,
- 40:28Speaker 18: you're hot or not. I mean, you know, he's got
- 40:30Speaker 18: electric stuff and, you know, that's something you come into
- 40:33Speaker 18: the ninth and you, you feel pretty good about.
- 40:36Speaker 9: Chase, Travis mentioned that process at the plate when you
- 40:39Speaker 9: were hitting the ball in the nose and the results
- 40:40Speaker 9: aren't coming. Just what is that like For you as
- 40:42Speaker 9: a young player, continue to work through it when you
- 40:45Speaker 9: need to stick to it, and the results are going
- 40:48Speaker 9: to come.
- 40:49Speaker 18: That's it right there. It's definitely frustrating. Anyone who says
- 40:53Speaker 18: it's not is lying. I think the big one there
- 40:57Speaker 18: is not to go chasing and find it. That's something
- 41:00Speaker 18: I've fallen into a little bit. Just show up in
- 41:03Speaker 18: the box every day, same approach, prepare the same way,
- 41:06Speaker 18: and good things can happen.
- 41:09Speaker 2: So there you go, a nice win for the Guardians
- 41:11Speaker 2: to wrap up the series. The homestand continues on Friday night,
- 41:15Speaker 2: but this series complete and a stretch of 13 straight
- 41:19Speaker 2: games and 13 days for the Guardians comes to an
- 41:22Speaker 2: end with a welcome off day tomorrow, and the Guardians
- 41:24Speaker 2: will head into the off day 33-25 on the season
- 41:29Speaker 2: and at the very least maintain a three-and-a-half game advantage
- 41:32Speaker 2: over the Chicago White Sox in the American League's Central Division.
- 41:37Speaker 2: The Nationals head home. As they complete a stretch of
- 41:39Speaker 2: 16 straight games, they are 29-28 on the year and
- 41:44Speaker 2: remain in second place in the National League East. Day
- 41:49Speaker 2: off tomorrow for the Guardians. They welcome the Red Sox
- 41:52Speaker 2: to town on Friday night. A 7-10 start with Slade
- 41:56Speaker 2: Ciccone on the mound for Cleveland. We'll have it for
- 41:59Speaker 2: you starting with the warm-up show at 635. Until then...
- 42:03Speaker 2: For Brian Motze at Command Center, and of course, Tom Hamilton,
- 42:07Speaker 2: this is Jim Rosenhouse reminding you the final score from
- 42:10Speaker 2: Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland, the Cleveland Guardians 3, the
- 42:15Speaker 2: Washington Nationals 2. Have a great night, everyone.
