- 0:00It's most things Kenobi. We always have the high ground.
- 0:16Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a
- 0:20podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:23I'm your host, Lauren. And I'm your host, Leanne.
- 0:27We have some catching up on mall to do.
- 0:30We do. All of the we tried, we tried to
- 0:34keep up, but we were just too busy.
- 0:36April was just an insane month, so we're doing our best here.
- 0:41We are and and honestly, I've really enjoyed the mall journey
- 0:46and. I have too, more than I
- 0:48expected. Way more.
- 0:50Way more. So we're talking about episode
- 0:537-8 and nine, No 789 and 10. Correct.
- 0:58You forget 10 the most important episode.
- 1:01Correct. But before we launch in, we just
- 1:06want to say that we've mentioned this in a previous episode, but
- 1:10our 200th episode is now available on our Patreon.
- 1:14We, Leanne and I recorded a video episode so you can
- 1:18actually see our faces. It's only on Patreon.
- 1:22It's free, you don't have to pay.
- 1:24It's for everybody, but it's just a little interview between
- 1:28us where we ask each other two Star Wars questions and two
- 1:32personal questions. Is that right?
- 1:34Is it 2 and two or one and one? It's been so long I can't
- 1:36remember. Well, we had trouble figuring
- 1:39this out when we were arranging it with one another, remember?
- 1:43So it's two Star Wars questions a piece and then two real life
- 1:47questions a piece. OK, good.
- 1:50Together we make one brain, and I'm so grateful for you.
- 1:54Yes, as I am grateful for you. I wouldn't survive without you.
- 2:00But anyway, it's up there, It's fun.
- 2:02Just go check it out at we Our official 200th episode was about
- 2:06ball and we didn't get a chance to do our full what we had
- 2:09planned. So just go over to our Patreon
- 2:12and check it out and have a laugh and see our faces.
- 2:16Yeah, and honestly, how we kind of do every episode, 'cause we
- 2:20recorded our intro and our outro and the whole thing and yeah,
- 2:24it's. True, and I even messed up
- 2:26really bad at the end. I think I did because of the way
- 2:31we talked through the moment. I just kept it.
- 2:35Perfect. Well then you get to see
- 2:36everything if you go, If you go, check out our 200th little
- 2:39questionnaire, questionnaire question and answer session.
- 2:43Yeah. Yeah, Q&A, Yeah.
- 2:45The Q&A. All right, well, shall we talk
- 2:51small? We shall there's there's so much
- 2:54to go over and before we go, we've spoilers for anyone who
- 2:58has not seen yes this entire show up to its finale.
- 3:03Spoilers turn around now. Yeah, we will.
- 3:06We will not hold back. No, there's no way to talk about
- 3:11the last episode without spoilers.
- 3:13It's not possible. That's that is completely
- 3:16correct. So back out now, come back later
- 3:19if you haven't seen the episodes.
- 3:23This was a lot Leanne. The things they are doing with
- 3:30this show, we are getting the we are getting tiny crumbs of back
- 3:38story and emotional strife with mom.
- 3:42Like holy shit it's so well done.
- 3:46I know I feel like something important must have happened in
- 3:50episode 7, but I just want to talk about episode 8.
- 3:54I mean, it's like all I could remember basically because it
- 3:58was so impactful and so well performed.
- 4:03I got to say, I was thinking of you during Episode 8.
- 4:06Like, Lauren's going to eat this shit up.
- 4:10This is the stuff we ask for and beg for in Star Wars, and we got
- 4:14it. Oh.
- 4:14My God. And it was.
- 4:16It was done well too. It wasn't.
- 4:19So well, so it was perfect. I can't even believe that this
- 4:23show is fucking animated. But like you said already, I
- 4:28feel like if it was live action it it probably wouldn't achieve
- 4:31things as well as the animation does.
- 4:34There's just no way. And, and the stuff I've been
- 4:37seeing, people are very pleased with what they're doing, how
- 4:40they're doing it, how it looks, the story they're unfolding.
- 4:44Yeah, Yeah, this is peak. It is this was.
- 4:51Can we just talk about the creeping fear and get it out of
- 4:53the way? Yes.
- 4:54Yes, please. Please, let's do it.
- 4:58This is after fighting the Inquisitors, right?
- 5:00That was the big thing in episode 7 is there was a big
- 5:04Inquisitor battle and. We get the 11th brother, he
- 5:08shows up. True, which was extremely spooky
- 5:12and even creepier than the first brother, whatever he the other
- 5:16one is called. And there's so much more to say
- 5:20there, but. But Fast forward to the.
- 5:24Emotional shit. So Ma gets messed up, like his
- 5:29hip gets kind of not fully severed, but definitely very
- 5:33damaged. He's in pain and he's been kind
- 5:37of defeated in this battle and he's separated from the rest of
- 5:41his crew and he goes into like, what can, in my opinion, can
- 5:47only be described as like a complex PTSD flashback that
- 5:53lasted extremely long time. Yeah, so this is mental health
- 5:58right here and why it's important and the way they did
- 6:02it with the the puddle. And like he sees his younger
- 6:07self before and he wipes it away and says I hate you.
- 6:13That was so fucking good. I know because there's this
- 6:17moment of like almost self pity. He sees his younger self and you
- 6:22see how raw that is and he can't deal with it.
- 6:26And so his reaction is hatred. Yeah, get away from it.
- 6:31Get away from him. And then he sees his reflection
- 6:35again later and it's a totally different response.
- 6:39And I just, I can't even process how I felt.
- 6:45Like I literally sat up for a long time after watching this
- 6:49episode. I couldn't go to sleep 'cause I
- 6:51always watch them right before bed, 'cause that's just the way
- 6:53my my schedule works out usually.
- 6:56And it was it like haunted me 'cause it's very realistic.
- 7:01And I just think it was so beautifully done.
- 7:06And Sam's performance in particular was really moving.
- 7:09I feel like now I can't even, I don't know if I'm going to be
- 7:11able to talk about it. I'm going to cry.
- 7:13Oh, it listen, Sam really knocked it out.
- 7:15I mean, we know he's good. Everyone knows he's good.
- 7:19Everyone knows he is Moll, right?
- 7:21And then to go an extra level, it's like, I don't, I don't
- 7:26understand how like Sam Whitworth understands Moll, but
- 7:30Sam Whitworth isn't fucking crazy like Mall.
- 7:34So but like in the clips where you see him and Filoni talking
- 7:38about these episodes, they get it.
- 7:40Like they completely understand the emotional undercurrent
- 7:43that's going on with somebody like Mall, the shit that he's
- 7:46been through that you just don't get over.
- 7:51And he's a living embodiment of what happened.
- 7:54And not only that, we got a Kenobi shout out.
- 7:57I. Know and it was like Ewan's
- 8:00voice. Yeah, the scream.
- 8:03Yeah, and his legs are like the metal legs are a reminder of
- 8:10that shit. Yeah.
- 8:12And was this the first time we ever heard him say Kenobi
- 8:15without the hatred? He was like afraid it was.
- 8:20Man, and it's so, it was so layered too, because it was like
- 8:25a bunch of memories rushing back to him.
- 8:28It made me feel so much pity for him.
- 8:32Here we go with the thing I said I at the at the beginning of the
- 8:35show. I'm going to end up feeling bad
- 8:37for Darth Maul. But this is the proof that
- 8:41everything that Sidious touches ends up like this.
- 8:45Like, like Maul. Now everyone in this path had a
- 8:49choice, but they also all have remnants of the disaster and the
- 8:54the way he's destroyed them mentally.
- 8:57Yeah. He's he is insidious.
- 9:01Like, literally. Yeah.
- 9:04But what I really appreciated about that, that whole scene was
- 9:07the fact that this is what ends up happening to Mall when you
- 9:11leave him alone for like 5 minutes.
- 9:14When he's not plotting, when he's not focused on Kenobi, when
- 9:16he's not focused on a new apprentice.
- 9:20No wonder he stays so busy and obsessed.
- 9:24My therapist corrected me on the terminology of like high
- 9:27functioning isn't what you say anymore but I can't remember
- 9:30what you are supposed to say so I apologize.
- 9:32But that maul is basically like high functioning with what seems
- 9:37like complex PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder or
- 9:41maybe both. Like I recognized how when
- 9:45you're surrounded by people, you're fine and when you're not
- 9:47and, and he's under pressure and he's in pain and he's had a
- 9:51defeat. It was like all of this stuff
- 9:53piles up and pushes out this reaction from him that he keeps
- 10:00very locked up in private. You never, there's never been an
- 10:04indication except when he was batshit crazy when Savage first
- 10:10finds him and his horns have grown really long and like he's
- 10:14muttering to himself. Somehow Mother Chausen tempered
- 10:19that, but it's still in there. This is like the most realistic
- 10:23trauma response I've ever seen in Star Wars.
- 10:26And they didn't. It was just so everyone's not
- 10:31the same, but the fact that I don't know, there was just
- 10:34something beautiful in, in the like in the pain, you know,
- 10:39still versus pain. Yes it is for everyone.
- 10:43Everyone, absolutely everyone. Even the people you hate or are
- 10:46supposed to hate are the bad guys that the evil ones,
- 10:49etcetera. They also are carrying around
- 10:51pain. It's why when we talk about the
- 10:53Sith code that it feeds into them becoming stronger.
- 10:57In that sense, it's like they are they use it.
- 11:00It's crazy. And of course we end up seeing
- 11:03we'll get to it. But Devin and her pain and how
- 11:06that manifests and you know, but also I liked it fell right in
- 11:13line with Star Wars symbology when he looked into the water.
- 11:17It's a reflection and we've seen this before.
- 11:19And So what a nice way because like a puddle, you know, where
- 11:25that he had, what was he on his knees, like kneeling and he fell
- 11:28down or something. Yeah, in it like a sewer.
- 11:31Yeah, and so he's like underground injured with
- 11:36himself, no distractions. And it's just a simple
- 11:39reflection. It's not the great, you know,
- 11:42multi reflection that Ray had in The Last Jedi or you know, this
- 11:47that the other example, it was just a a small one, but and I
- 11:50think that's even better than a large elaborate scene because.
- 11:54Yeah. Like you said, he keeps it
- 11:56locked up and it was so interesting to see him how he
- 12:02spoke and viewed himself because we only ever see the external
- 12:06mall. Yeah.
- 12:08And the his environment, the the fact that it's a puddle, which
- 12:11is like a transitory type reflective surface that could be
- 12:16there and then be gone and. Disappear, just like his
- 12:19emotions. Yeah, and that there was the
- 12:21wind and the dust storm blowing at him constantly.
- 12:25It was, it was like the internal and the external were mirroring
- 12:28each other. It was really so beautifully.
- 12:32And when he looks at his, I guess it's like his teenage
- 12:35reflection. Yeah, it wasn't a warped and
- 12:37terrible. He seemed fresh faced.
- 12:40Yes, he seemed like such a boy and he started to cry and then
- 12:45said we'll never let him do this to anyone else.
- 12:48It was just, Oh my God, it was so beautiful.
- 12:51And I'm so glad they did this. You know, they took almost an
- 12:56entire episode and they were cutting back and forth between
- 13:00what everyone else is doing and what Moll is going through.
- 13:04I'm so glad they took the time to give us this.
- 13:09It's just, it adds so much depth that we assume, I think a lot of
- 13:15us assume that there is this, that I, it's very rare that
- 13:19anyone is just like, I'm a madman, you know, for no reason.
- 13:24And it was interesting to see that he feels like the
- 13:26experience with Obi Wan and Phantom Menace was actually
- 13:29traumatic. He was.
- 13:32It led to him underground and everything he went through in
- 13:36those years before Savage found him.
- 13:39And yeah, that would be a trauma response for sure.
- 13:44Valid. What's crazy is Kenobi has done
- 13:47this to two people. God, you know God.
- 13:53I know Obi Wan, come on man. Honestly it's just sending
- 14:01people into trauma. I I honestly so episode 8 was
- 14:08was probably my favorite. It was amazing.
- 14:13It was beautiful. That doesn't mean I didn't love
- 14:169 and 10. Yeah, well, now there's, well,
- 14:23there's two Inquisitors, which you probably had this thought
- 14:28too. They're fighting, you know, the
- 14:30both the Inquisitors, and it's Maul and Daki and Devin, they're
- 14:33all fighting the Inquisitors. And I couldn't help but think
- 14:36that Ahsoka killed both those Inquisitors all by herself.
- 14:40Oh, I was thinking it. She listen, if there was ever a
- 14:45subtle she a bad bitch, you know, it was in this in these
- 14:50episodes with both those inquisitors, you had how many
- 14:54talented people and our girl took them out by herself.
- 15:01I'm so proud of her. It's just such a testament to
- 15:05how powerful she really is, what a warrior she is.
- 15:09And as I recall, she was pretty calm and like, you know,
- 15:14collected and not flailing or frightened at all.
- 15:18And that's her. That's her powerhouse right
- 15:20there. She's always been.
- 15:22She's always been like that. And we we see it with other Jedi
- 15:25when they are calm and and focused, locked in, and then you
- 15:30add her. Yeah, I was thinking it.
- 15:36I was so proud of her. She wasn't even here.
- 15:37She wasn't even in the room, you know.
- 15:40I said same to you though. I was like, I'm so I just love
- 15:42Ahsoka so much. I'm so proud.
- 15:45Honestly, and I was also these two inquisitors were besties in
- 15:52a previous light, I know it, I think.
- 15:54There is that vibe. Yeah, that they're just not Co
- 15:58workers. They went through something
- 16:00together at the end of the Order 66.
- 16:04I listen. There is something weird about
- 16:09their dynamic that I got the same feeling.
- 16:11I don't even know why because it's not like they're friendly.
- 16:15No, and we don't have like any dialogue.
- 16:18We have animated body language. But the way that they work in
- 16:24tandem, I just think what if they were master and apprentice?
- 16:28Oh, interesting. Just a theory, but they had to
- 16:32have been close or at least fought together as Jedi, right?
- 16:37I mean. There was, especially when
- 16:39they're talking near each other. There is something very youthful
- 16:43suddenly about the first brother, and the 11th was very
- 16:48still and frightening in a totally different energy.
- 16:51So yeah, master and apprentice would be interesting.
- 16:55I got the vibe. I have like nothing to back that
- 16:59up except a a vibe and I just think my head cannon is cool
- 17:04because like wow they really took a bad or a bad deal and
- 17:08turned it into something worse. But like, they stuck together.
- 17:15Well it's funny to me because the the first brother seemed
- 17:18pretty spooky and scary until the 11th brother showed up.
- 17:22He's way scarier. His mask is like those those
- 17:26doctors in the medieval times, yes.
- 17:30The plague mask. Yeah, the plague mask with the
- 17:32beak and stuff. Oh, I hate that.
- 17:34That is so creepy to me anyway. And then you put it on an
- 17:37Inquisitor. Yeah, it's scary as hell.
- 17:42It was really well done. And then the diva shows up.
- 17:47I was gonna say and then it you think scary then scarier now?
- 17:52No, it's way, way fucking scarier.
- 17:54What happens? I wasn't all that surprised
- 17:58Vader showed up. No.
- 18:01But I am exceedingly impressed every single time by his Cape
- 18:06flutter, his entrance, the Skywalker entrance that we all
- 18:10have. We all have come to expect OK
- 18:15the the drama of it all, but then his fighting and his power
- 18:20look makes the Inquisitors look like children.
- 18:23Yes. And he's made of metal, so he's
- 18:26working under some kind of restriction.
- 18:30Yeah, but he fights one handed for the most part, like it's no
- 18:37big deal. No big deal.
- 18:39My favorite part of his. OK, this is so this is terrible.
- 18:43But like Donkey, donkey nails him right, puts a cut in him
- 18:48somewhere. Shoulder, hip, maybe hip.
- 18:52I don't remember 'cause I know Vader hits mom on the hip, but.
- 18:56OK, well, Donkey got him. Yeah.
- 18:58And then Vader, just Wham, Wham, Wham, Wham.
- 19:03He said fuck this guy. And he just started wailing on
- 19:06his ass. I said there's my man.
- 19:10There he is. Anakin's pissed.
- 19:12Here we go. Yeah, it's like if you if you
- 19:16hit him, you better kill him 'cause if you just wound him,
- 19:18it's like poking a beehive. It's it's a, it's a bad move,
- 19:23but like, kudos to Daki. I know I am heartbroken.
- 19:28I knew it was coming. Who didn't?
- 19:31But honestly? But I mean, it was the setup we
- 19:34expected, right? Where?
- 19:38I am glad that he died by Vader because what a hell of a fight,
- 19:42you know, like how like, if you're going to be defeated,
- 19:47like. Maul abandoned him.
- 19:49Oh well, we expected that. Maul doesn't give a shit about
- 19:53anybody and he's scared shitless of he's scared fucking shitless
- 19:58of Vader. Hugh called it.
- 20:00Hugh called it. Listen, Hugh, our patron and
- 20:03friend nailed it and I told him. I texted him afterwards.
- 20:06I, I, I messaged him. I said dude all over it.
- 20:11He needs the we need to make him like a custom T-shirt or
- 20:14something for that, 'cause that is.
- 20:15Hugh nailed it just like Filoni gets it.
- 20:17He nailed. It that's great.
- 20:20Oh my God, I love it. But for real, Maul said.
- 20:25I'm out. He's like, I'm out.
- 20:27I, I don't, I don't have enough. I don't.
- 20:29I'm not. I'm not doing this.
- 20:31And you could see him evaluate seeing Devin and knowing that if
- 20:35Devin saw Daki die, that it would work in his favor.
- 20:39And he made that decision quickly.
- 20:41And then Daki knew he did it also.
- 20:44There was just enough time to see the realization in
- 20:47everybody's eyes, and except Devin, she didn't know why.
- 20:53Who? Saw it though.
- 20:55Did Lawson see it? Someone was observing from above
- 20:58and saw mall abandoned. Oh, I actually you're right, but
- 21:02I don't know who. I can't remember.
- 21:05I want to say it was Lawson. Was it the sun?
- 21:08I don't remember Riley. I always forget his name.
- 21:11I have to go back and watch it. Oh darn.
- 21:15I know, right? What I feel the most, what I
- 21:18feel the most upset about is that I hope Doc he didn't die
- 21:24fearing that his Padawan would would turn like I hope he found
- 21:29peace in that moment because he was fighting to defend, you
- 21:34know, what he believed in and he believed in her and the Jedi
- 21:37and, you know, good over evil and.
- 21:40And considering his ribs were probably broken, he held his own
- 21:44pretty well. Honestly and for a little guy,
- 21:46he gave me Yoda vibes against Palpatine.
- 21:49Yeah. In the prequels, you know,
- 21:53don't, don't underestimate someone based on their size.
- 21:56They're Wiley. They can flip and jip and dupe
- 21:59and do the whole thing and. He was awesome.
- 22:01I really like that character. So I'm actually really saying
- 22:04no, he won't be in season 2. It was a very short lived run,
- 22:08but maybe they'll do like Tales of Forest Ghost.
- 22:13No forest ghost that's. A good idea Tales of the Forest
- 22:19Ghost we should definitely get. That I was.
- 22:25I was sad to see him go, but Maul's a bastard at the end of
- 22:28the day. I feel so bad for him and then I
- 22:30don't. I know he tricks you and that's
- 22:33kind. I love that when you like that
- 22:36love, hate relationship with a a bad, like a bad guy in a in a in
- 22:41a movie, sometimes you love to hate them.
- 22:43But Maul I start to like maybe he's got good into and it's like
- 22:49always in the back of my mind. I keep remembering how he was in
- 22:52rebels. It was never about really
- 22:56training Ezra. He was more than happy to just
- 22:59abandoned Ezra and it's no different now.
- 23:05I I do want to know what he's going to do with Devin as his
- 23:11apprentice and like what is his goal?
- 23:15He claims he's not going to let Sidious do this to anyone else,
- 23:18but we know he doesn't succeed. Yes, right.
- 23:22And we know that. Well, I mean, we don't know what
- 23:26happens to her, but we know that she's not in any of the other
- 23:29material. So if she's some sort of
- 23:31sacrificial lamb, something. I'm I'm going to guess he's
- 23:36going to abandon her at some point too, because yeah, that's
- 23:39what they do. He's only using her and it makes
- 23:43me wonder about, oh I can't remember the character's name
- 23:47now, The Mandalorian that was kind of like by his side the
- 23:51whole time, played by the woman who voiced Hera, who I'm also
- 23:55forgetting her name. Vanessa Marshall.
- 23:57Oh. Cast or cast or something.
- 24:01Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yes, yes.
- 24:03She was so loyal to him and it makes me wonder like why?
- 24:09What do you? Think it's it's it's no
- 24:12different than anyone else seduced into serving the Empire
- 24:16or serving Sidious, thinking that somehow following that
- 24:19path, it's gonna work out for you, even though it has not
- 24:22worked out for almost anyone else.
- 24:25Why would you think that being loyal to Maul would somehow work
- 24:30for for you, but almost no one else who's ever come into
- 24:35contact with him? I don't know what she was
- 24:36thinking. What did he promise her?
- 24:40It's these are all valid questions we'll probably never
- 24:42get answers to because it's just a long line of people used as
- 24:46pawns in a Sith game. And we see it all the time with
- 24:50the Sith, you know? Well, they're almost all dead
- 24:53now, like all the characters in this show.
- 24:55So next season is gonna be, like I said, I think we're narrowing
- 25:00in more and more on what Maul is really doing and the rest will
- 25:05kind of be secondary. We have Crimson Dawn now
- 25:09officially in in place. Yeah, wherever that's.
- 25:14But we also don't know if Lawson died.
- 25:17I don't think he did. It'd be much worse if he was
- 25:20captured by Vader. Well, I don't have time for
- 25:26that. We need him to be.
- 25:28We need him to be in one piece and continue his storyline
- 25:31because that's not finished yet. We have the wife who's hanging
- 25:34out somewhere on the outskirts. We have Riley who's very
- 25:37involved now. Yeah.
- 25:39In all of this, he's essentially A fugitive and A and a he's
- 25:44committed treason. 2 boots. They took his boots.
- 25:50Why that is like, I can't believe you recognized me
- 25:52without my boots. I.
- 25:54Know I know I love that so much though, but we got his actual
- 25:58like code name to BOTS or some to Riley said it out and I said
- 26:05oh shit, what was that? That's cute because it's always
- 26:08something like it. Always it.
- 26:10Is actually like 2 boots but spelled with letters or numbers
- 26:13instead of letters. I love that though, I think.
- 26:16I like that he he got his mind swapped around, like finally
- 26:21thinking the right way because he was dehumanized, which I
- 26:24found really funny. What a way to come to the the
- 26:30the same conclusion. I mean, talk about taking a
- 26:33whole walk around the block just to get to the same conclusion
- 26:37that everyone else got to 1st. Like damn.
- 26:41Well. Also, I do think it was because
- 26:43he's he felt partial towards Riley.
- 26:45And it's one thing if Lawson finds himself in a, in a a
- 26:48pinch, but like, don't bring the kid into it.
- 26:50And I, I do think that there was something there with that.
- 26:53And then they took his boots. So like, that was that was too
- 26:58much for two boots. Everyone has a limit.
- 27:04I'm sorry, that needs to be a hashtag.
- 27:06Too much for two boots. Yeah, too much for two boots.
- 27:09We had enough. That was it, yeah.
- 27:15I really hope Lawson isn't dead because I really like him and
- 27:19like he said, there's so much that could still be explored
- 27:23with his character. We also don't know if his friend
- 27:27is actually dead. I forget her name, but the one
- 27:30who kind of brought him into a trap and there's an explosion
- 27:35but we don't see, you know, that she actually dies.
- 27:38So. I attention, I did like that.
- 27:41I really did. I like that little element of
- 27:43that. She was that was that was good.
- 27:45I'm I'm actually upset at myself that I didn't see that coming at
- 27:48first. I thought there was something
- 27:53because there was something, some tension in the air there
- 27:56between them, and I wondered if Riley was actually either bugged
- 28:02with a tracker or had made an agreement with the the
- 28:06Inquisitor to lead them to his dad.
- 28:11But. Then it turned out that they
- 28:12were just walking into a trap. But I think that what because he
- 28:16he just said that the Inquisitor came in and was terrifying and
- 28:19he said I didn't know anything, so they left me alone.
- 28:22It's like when they have kind of assumed that at some point, I
- 28:26don't know. That maybe that's just that's.
- 28:29Maybe that's just stealing the plot line from Kenobi with Areva
- 28:33and and what was the little Droid Lula or something.
- 28:39Like that Lola. Lola, isn't it Lola?
- 28:43I think you're right. Yeah, Not yeah.
- 28:46Her name was Lola. It was a show girl.
- 28:50Oh God man, I really liked the scene where Devin ends up facing
- 28:59the two inquisitors and she takes off her Cape like a badass
- 29:04and she's like cracks her knuckles basically and like
- 29:06let's go. I loved.
- 29:08It I know she reminds me a lot of Obi Wan as a piano Wan.
- 29:12Actually, I've seen this like it as parallels that Daki is like
- 29:16Qui Gon and Devin is like Obi Wan.
- 29:18Not in the way that it's not that Obi Wan was doubting
- 29:22anything or anything like that, but more so like the ability and
- 29:26the just the the dynamic between them.
- 29:29It's not 100% parallel, but I do see it there.
- 29:32There's something interesting about.
- 29:33That had a snarl just like young man Obi did and but two
- 29:38different paths I. Mean.
- 29:41This this again, to bring up Obi Wan and why he's the the
- 29:45absolute best is because he experienced the exact same thing
- 29:50as Devin, probably around the same age and chose differently
- 29:56and chose a completely different path.
- 29:57Now we don't know what's going to happen to Devin, but she said
- 30:00I'm I'm ready. Would she?
- 30:01Say at the end, something like that, yeah.
- 30:04I I think I'm ready or I'm finally ready or something so
- 30:07powerful because you could see it in her face change.
- 30:11The hate was there and Mall knew it and I hate that.
- 30:15I know he used all of her pain like waited very patiently until
- 30:19the moment was right, knew it was going to happen somehow.
- 30:24Can I also just point out since we were kind of talking about
- 30:26Obi Wan that watching this show, you know, there's been fights
- 30:30with Moll where Moll was really aggressive in and defeating
- 30:34everyone and then Vader comes in and is so good.
- 30:37He one handedly is like over powering Moll.
- 30:40Obi Wan beat them both. Hell yeah, multiple.
- 30:44Times more than once, yeah. This is why we titled the show
- 30:50the way we did. He is, don't forget it
- 30:54motherfuckers, that he is the best.
- 30:58Everyone in the room has lost limbs because of him and he'll
- 31:02do it again. He will end your ass again.
- 31:06Yeah, that's all I like. Vader was terrifying and so
- 31:09powerful and immediately just over like standing over them,
- 31:13literally bending over them and keeping them on the back foot.
- 31:17Everybody was overwhelmed. And there's three people
- 31:20fighting him and they can't win. And I was like, Kenobi comes in
- 31:24and deals with this guy immediately.
- 31:26Within a couple of minutes, it's like he's done.
- 31:29Twice. It's just I love him so much.
- 31:33Yeah. I want to touch on one thing
- 31:36about Maul that I noticed is this is this is the fault in the
- 31:43Sith and the dark side and the whole thing.
- 31:46Maul in his moment of pain and like self reflection if you
- 31:50will, said I'm never going to let him do this again to anyone.
- 31:53And then he goes and does the same shit to Devin.
- 31:59So tell me again how perpetuating the cycle ends the
- 32:03cycle? Yeah, and he does it to Ezra
- 32:08too. He doesn't stop.
- 32:11And I think he's kind of a creep for keep trying to do this to
- 32:15teenagers. Like pick on someone your own
- 32:17size. Yeah, what a great point.
- 32:20Like he's it was. Purposely using people who
- 32:23aren't as strong because they physically have not grown up
- 32:26yet, they're not mentally experienced enough because they
- 32:29haven't grown up yet and their emotions at this time in their
- 32:32biological life have not matured yet.
- 32:35And I think that's gross. Not in like a not like in a
- 32:38gross, gross way, but like in a Stop praying on the weak.
- 32:42Yeah, I mean, it is kind of a form of grooming, right?
- 32:47I mean, it is, it is 'cause it's knowing that there's somebody
- 32:50who's vulnerable that you can infiltrate their way of thinking
- 32:53and manipulate it. That is basically grooming.
- 32:56So that. Is the Sith code.
- 32:58And you don't see him doing that to Kanan?
- 33:02Nope, no. He does a little bit with
- 33:05Ahsoka, but she is kind of still young when they're talking.
- 33:10Yeah, but they're also just talking, and Ahsoka is pretty
- 33:13fucking set. Yeah, she's like, OK, tell me
- 33:17and I'll decide. I mean, they let each other,
- 33:20they know this game they're playing, they're talking about
- 33:22the same person when they're talking, like it's like.
- 33:25Yeah. Chess, not checkers.
- 33:28And I loved that this my train of thought is because of Ahsoka
- 33:33and Clone Wars season 7 and how Maul doesn't have a weapon and
- 33:36he like pulls down the reactor room.
- 33:38He does that he. Does it again.
- 33:40So and he and then Vader does it too.
- 33:43I know it's. Just like you.
- 33:45Guys are fucking crazy collapsing buildings on
- 33:49yourselves. I fucking love these guys.
- 33:52I love them. I'm like throwing my hands
- 33:54around here because I'm so excited.
- 33:56I just, I love. I love just the unhingedness of
- 34:01it all. It's some of it is that that
- 34:07element is allowed. It's a little bit more fun than
- 34:09watching Jedi. Yeah, Jedi are very controlled.
- 34:12They're systematic. They know what?
- 34:16Yeah, they know how to fight, but they don't use everything.
- 34:20Watching Clone Wars, some of the most fun is when the characters,
- 34:24the Jedi get put into a situation where they kind of
- 34:28have to tread the line a little bit of maybe like Anakin getting
- 34:32really upset and beating up brush Clovis is it lives on in
- 34:37our minds for a long. Time it it, it absolutely does.
- 34:42But remember Kenobi? I was thinking this too in the
- 34:45Kenobi series, how he lifted all those boulders and just threw
- 34:49them at Vader in the last episode.
- 34:52Like that's power. It's power.
- 34:55Yeah, one of our patrons, I can't remember who it was now,
- 34:58'cause I got so many DMS on Instagram after the show,
- 35:02someone was saying why doesn't anyone else think to go for
- 35:05Vader's chest plate? Because plot safety.
- 35:10And Obi Wan is the smartest. That's and Obi Wan.
- 35:15Well and Ahsoka. Ahsoka went for the helmet too
- 35:17when in Rebels. But yeah, Obi Wan literally
- 35:23threw boulders at his his poor chest plate.
- 35:28Shit, I. Oh my God.
- 35:30I just, I love Star Wars so much.
- 35:35I know it's so much fun and it's emotionally investing as well.
- 35:40I think that that was all part of it.
- 35:43There was some great like action sequences too, where Vader's
- 35:48about to kill Maul and Devin puts her blade in between and
- 35:52saves him. And then there's the it's like
- 35:55the the Inquisitors have 4 blades total, and they're
- 35:58fighting Daki and Devin, and it's like there's a moment where
- 36:01all blades touch at once and they pause for just a second so
- 36:04that the audience can see it looking fucking awesome.
- 36:07It's so good. It reminded me of of Obi Wan
- 36:11fighting Savage and and and Maul times three.
- 36:15It was, yeah. It's fun.
- 36:17This is why Star Wars this can be fun.
- 36:20Yeah. And oh, let's not, let's not
- 36:22forget the lighting, the shading.
- 36:24And did you happen to notice, did they do something different
- 36:27in the last two episodes where the, the background or the
- 36:30foreground of it of the shot was like watercolor?
- 36:34Did you happen to notice it looked like?
- 36:37I've kind of noticed that throughout, actually.
- 36:40Maybe I just noticed it now, but like what they're flying in
- 36:42somewhere or they they start with a a shot from way up above
- 36:46and then they come down closer. It looked like watercolor
- 36:49paintings or like not even like maybe oil paint.
- 36:51It looked like an art that got crisper and clear as they got
- 36:55closer. And I thought, what are they
- 36:57doing? This is amazing.
- 36:59I know it's so beautiful, I really hope it.
- 37:02I really hope it wasn't made with AI 'cause I feel like such
- 37:05an asshole praising AII. Think it was still done with
- 37:09animation like you know. AI doesn't.
- 37:13AI doesn't do it that well though.
- 37:16No, it doesn't. And I've heard doing things
- 37:18like, did you see that Coca-Cola Christmas AD that they did?
- 37:24It was all AI with all the Olar bears.
- 37:26I did a little research into it because it made my skin crawl
- 37:30and they said that it took just as much time and more money than
- 37:35if they had just animated it with human beings because AI is
- 37:39really bad at doing match editing.
- 37:42So like one perspective and then you cut to the next shot and the
- 37:46truck's in the wrong spot and all the buildings are moved.
- 37:50And you end up spending more time correcting the mistakes
- 37:53than you do creating a piece that is usable.
- 37:56I hate it. Yeah, so I, I really think this
- 38:01is old school animation. I don't think it's AI animation.
- 38:06I haven't looked into it though. But either way, I do think that
- 38:10it's animation style is close enough to Clone Wars to tie it
- 38:16together, but it's its own thing really.
- 38:21I agree with all that whole thing.
- 38:23Yes, Clone Wars style, but elevated in a way that we
- 38:28haven't seen anything like it. Not like this.
- 38:32Not like this. The the texture and the
- 38:34atmosphere is incredible. And I saw an interview, just a
- 38:39snippet of an interview with David Collins, who you know,
- 38:43we've he's voiced stuff in every single Star Wars thing since I
- 38:47think Phantom Menace. But he was the sound designer on
- 38:50this show, which I didn't realize.
- 38:51I didn't know that makes sense though, it's so good.
- 38:54It's so good and they're using like the most recent technology,
- 38:58which of course, I'm sorry, I don't know what it is.
- 39:00It used to be like Atmos, and now maybe it's something else, I
- 39:03don't know. But he said it gives him full
- 39:06texturization in sound. So for example, one of the shots
- 39:11was a train coming and Devin jumps out of the way, or
- 39:14somebody jumps out of the right and the train goes over the
- 39:17camera and runs over us. So he moved the sound up above.
- 39:24So if you listen with headphones, it feels like the
- 39:27sound is above you. That's so cool.
- 39:30That is so cool. How fun would it be for them to
- 39:34do their job like this is probably they probably had a
- 39:37blast. And they're like, for an
- 39:40animated series, I feel like that is more rich detail than
- 39:45some movies or like Netflix series that we're seeing where
- 39:49all the imagery is flat and washed out.
- 39:52There's no more highlighting. There's no more like depth of
- 39:55field anymore. Everything's so dark.
- 39:58You have you. You have to turn your contrast
- 40:00up just to see anything. 100% and this show is.
- 40:07It's a breath of fucking fresh air, let's be real.
- 40:10Say it louder for the folks in the back.
- 40:13I agree it's. So beautiful.
- 40:17I don't know what awards it could win, but it should win all
- 40:20of them. And Sam should win for his
- 40:22performance because it was the full spectrum of emotion and it
- 40:26was so beautifully done. I just, I just hats off to
- 40:30everyone involved from top to bottom in this project.
- 40:32It they they really knocked it out of the park.
- 40:34I love, I loved it and I had fun again.
- 40:36And that, that is a breath of fresh air.
- 40:39Yeah, for real. Did you know that Sam also
- 40:44voiced Sidious in this? Oh, I I didn't know that, but I
- 40:49did. I recall myself wondering.
- 40:53Yeah, I did too, 'cause he's done it in the past.
- 40:57Oh, they're so damn talented. I know, I don't know how they do
- 41:00it. Talented.
- 41:02And he did Young. I think he did Young Savage also
- 41:06in addition to his own, like Young.
- 41:09Stuff we we totally skipped over the fact that Savage was even in
- 41:11this. Which just for a second.
- 41:14That was nice, you know, to see like.
- 41:17Yeah. My brother, you know.
- 41:20Heartbreaking too, 'cause his he's kind of begging Moll not to
- 41:24go when he's a young person, but I don't think he had a choice.
- 41:27I think Mother Towson made an arrangement with Sidious that
- 41:30Sidious was allowed to take Moll whether or not Moll wanted to
- 41:33go. So.
- 41:35I mean, the whole thing is just history repeating itself, you
- 41:39know? Yeah, and the fact that Moll
- 41:44gets cut in half and falls down a reactor shaft and Sidious
- 41:49never went to look for him, just let it let him disappear, never
- 41:56went to check to see if he was actually dead, and then just
- 41:59moved on without him. Just.
- 42:01Moved on. What a nice guy.
- 42:04Yeah, jeez, man. I don't blame Maul for his
- 42:09emotions. Honestly, when it's directed at
- 42:11Sidious, I don't blame him at all.
- 42:14This is it's so interesting because it Sam was saying before
- 42:18the show came out that mall has very good reasons in Mall's mind
- 42:22for what he's doing. And he's like, they're bad
- 42:24reasons and they're not he's not a good person, but you'll
- 42:28understand more. And I like that this is what he
- 42:31meant this it gives the character so much more
- 42:35complexity. And that, I think, is one of the
- 42:41best things about Star Wars is the way they give you this
- 42:45character that's interesting. And then if they have the time
- 42:48or the money, they'll go deeper into why.
- 42:53Yeah, Vader's a great example. We all knew, Vader insisted.
- 42:57Then they took a whole prequels to explain where Anakin came
- 43:02from and why you would become Vader.
- 43:04Not only that, Anakin had good reasons in his mind for doing
- 43:08what he did, and it didn't. It wasn't good and he wasn't.
- 43:13None of this was good. And if you can trick your victim
- 43:18into thinking that, you know what you're doing is right, you
- 43:22know, wink, wink, yeah, then they really go all in until they
- 43:29end up like, like, like Anakin says, what have I done?
- 43:32Yeah, there's no, no turning back now.
- 43:36I honestly, I think that's what Mall is thinking when he looks
- 43:39in the puddle, like, what have I done?
- 43:40What have I become? Oh, and then he just shoves it
- 43:43aside like I can't, I can't go there.
- 43:45That's the darkest, scariest part of him and he does not want
- 43:48to deal with it. I get it.
- 43:50There's parts of myself that I feel that way about, choices
- 43:53I've made, parts of my life I wish I would have done
- 43:56differently. Group regrets.
- 43:58Absolutely. I think we all have it, not to
- 44:01the degree of mall. But I think there is something
- 44:06in in everyone's past where if you think about it, you will
- 44:09have that kind of no, no, no, no, no, don't want to think
- 44:12about that kind of reaction to it.
- 44:14You have to face it. And that's where Kenobi, again,
- 44:20Trump's all of them because he faces, he has to physically and
- 44:25mentally and emotionally face Anakin and Vader in the Kenobi
- 44:30series before he can be set free.
- 44:32Everyone else is just blocking it out.
- 44:34And that's not that's not how that's done.
- 44:37Yeah, what an interesting point too, that once you face it,
- 44:43you're free. Well, that's the trick of of
- 44:46therapy, isn't it? I mean.
- 44:50Theoretically. Theoretically, yeah.
- 44:53Yeah. I mean, also you're not really
- 44:55like realistically, you're not really ever free, but you learn
- 44:58to manage. Much better.
- 45:01Make peace with something, honor, honor your own self and
- 45:05move forward. Do better.
- 45:08None of these fuckers have done this.
- 45:10There wasn't a therapist in the Jedi temple.
- 45:12I'm still campaigning for one. But, but honestly, I mean,
- 45:19that's what that's what sets someone like Dokey apart from
- 45:24someone like Moll. Yeah, absolutely.
- 45:28Rest in peace Docie, I will miss him.
- 45:31I know, what a bummer. 10 episodes and we fell in love
- 45:36with a brand new character. I know there was something so
- 45:41peaceful and calming about him. He, like everything, is chaos in
- 45:45this show except him. Yeah.
- 45:47Here's that little center that we needed to hold on to.
- 45:51Now what will? Happen.
- 45:53In Season 2. Don't know.
- 45:55It's gonna be fun. I think it's gonna be fun.
- 45:57I hope. I hope they bring it like they
- 45:59did this season. I'm sure they will.
- 46:01Yeah, I'm sure they will. And there's potential that there
- 46:04could be more than just one more season.
- 46:06There could be multiple seasons of this show because it's
- 46:08fucking great. And I would not be sorry if it
- 46:11if it can keep holding this quality.
- 46:13Right. Yeah, please.
- 46:14Yes, hold the quality, stay the course, keep it fun, right?
- 46:21Another T-shirt idea. Oh, I'll get on it.
- 46:27That's my homework. OK, we would like to invite you
- 46:37to join our Patreon because we are going to do a rewatch of the
- 46:42mall series during our watch parties every month for our Jedi

- 47:03a chat room and it is very lively at a very fun.
- 47:07Yes, and if we rewatch mall, think of the things we'll we'll
- 47:10see for I mean, the second time through you can notice more.
- 47:14I know it's gonna be fun. It's always fun to watch
- 47:16something the first time. And now that we know everything,
- 47:20we're gonna go back and rewatch it, see what else we find.

- 48:04Check it out. And our next episode, we're
- 48:08going back to talking about Luke Skywalker because it's been a
- 48:10minute and we miss him. We do.
- 48:14And because the mall show was so heavy on beautiful lighting and,
- 48:19and the symbology of everything, we're going to take that same
- 48:22element and step through each of the three original trilogy
- 48:27episodes and talk about the specific lighting that was used
- 48:30just for Luke. We'll talk about how the
- 48:32lighting changes and why and the symbology behind it.
- 48:35And it's just an excuse to talk about Mark Hamill and Luke
- 48:39Skywalker, so. It is looking very pretty and
- 48:45lit very nicely. And we love symbology over here,
- 48:48so yeah, it's a perfect combo. Please join us on our next
