- 0:06Today we read, Rumpelstiltskin.
- 0:11Once there was a poor miller who had a very beautiful daughter.
- 0:17He was so poor he couldn't pay his taxes.
- 0:20And when the king threatened to put him into prison, the miller's desperation
- 0:25said, I have a daughter who can spin gold out of the shore.
- 0:31Then bring her to me in immediately, ordered the king.
- 0:37The frightened girl was led to a room which was filled with a huge house door.
- 0:43Spin all this into gold before morning or you will be punished, ordered the king.
- 0:53The miller's daughter pleaded to be excused For she knew that she was not able
- 0:59to spin gold out of straw It was no use,
- 1:03The door was locked and she sat there alone and wept After a while the door
- 1:08opened and walked in the little man Why are you sad?
- 1:13He asked The king has ordered me to spin all this straw into gold And I don't know how to do it.
- 1:23What will you give me if I do it for you? said the little man The girl gave
- 1:27him a necklace and he sat down,
- 1:32To work, he was spinning the straw into fine gold. By morning, he was finished.
- 1:40The king was delighted with what he saw, but he wanted more.
- 1:44So he took the miller's daughter to a larger room filled with straw and told
- 1:50her to spin it into gold by the next morning.
- 1:53Again, she sat down and wept. So the little man came into the...
- 1:58What will you give me if I do this for you?
- 2:03She gave him a gold ring, a gold ring, and she worked until morning.
- 2:08And he worked until morning when the task was complete.
- 2:11The king was greedy and he wanted even more gold, so...
- 2:21The next evening, he took the girl into an even larger room,
- 2:27filled with ruptures with straw, he said. If you do this tonight, you will be my wife.
- 2:33The little man came in before he asked her, what will you give me if I spin
- 2:39all this into gold and free? He despaired.
- 2:44For she had nothing left to give Then promise me, said the little man Your first
- 2:51child when you were queen The millard daughter agreed to give the little man,
- 2:58What he wanted through That she hoped she would never have to keep a promise Once again the peculiar,
- 3:10little man But a huge pile of gold and not a piece of straw was left.
- 3:19The next morning, the king found all he wanted, and the miller's daughter became his queen.
- 3:28A year passed, and the queen gave birth to a lovely daughter.
- 3:32She was so happy that she forgot about the funny little man and the promise she made.
- 3:39Until one day, she appeared and reminded her of it.
- 3:44She offered him the treasure of the kingdom but he,
- 3:50Refused to accept it. She cried and cried because she's not there to be apart with the little baby.
- 4:01The little man gave in to her pleading saying, Very well, I'll give you three days.
- 4:07And if in that time you can guess my name, then you may keep your child.
- 4:12The queen stayed up all night thinking of names as she had ever heard and writing,
- 4:18all of them down on the long list.
- 4:22The next day, the little man came into a room, began to work through the list.
- 4:28Peace, John, Mark, Isaac, Thomas, Henry, Jemiah.
- 4:33But every name she tried, she received a reply, no, that's not my name.
- 4:40On the second day, she tried all the strangest names that she had heard of.
- 4:47Like Ruby, Gug, and Boogie, but the little man just laughed and said,
- 4:53You'll never guess my name!
- 4:55The Queen sent her servants out to see they discover any other names,
- 5:00but they returned with no new names.
- 5:03But late in the evening, and the remaining servant making his way back to the
- 5:08castle, he heard a little man singing in the woods.
- 5:12Merrily, oh, merrily I'll be, oh, feast I'll make.
- 5:18Merrily the feast I'll make today. I'll brew tomorrow, bake.
- 5:23Merrily I'll dance and sing, for the next day is spring to bring.
- 5:28Little does my lady dream, Rumpelstiltskin is my name.
- 5:37This faithful servant told the queen his fortune in discovery,
- 5:44and when on the third day the visitor asked her, Is your name William? Is it Charles?
- 5:51Is your name William? No. Is it Charles? No. Could it be Rumpelstiltskin?
- 5:58Who told you that? Who told you that?
- 6:02Cried the little man and shook his fist and stamped his feet so hard that he
- 6:08made a hole in the floor and fell right into it.
- 6:13Moaning and groaning, he pulled himself out of the hole and ran away.
- 6:17The queen lived happily with the king and the daughter, and they were never
- 6:21bothered by Rumpelstiltskin again.
- 6:25The End Thank you for listening.
