- 0:01We tend to live with an illusion of separateness of our
- 0:05individual being from all others.
- 0:08We treat the physical body as a distinct self standing unit that
- 0:13is free and independent, has its own integrity and is essentially
- 0:18isolated in its separateness. This, however, is not quite the
- 0:23actuality of our situation. Instead of being a protected
- 0:28island in the world, our body is actually more of a permeable
- 0:32membrane, taking in energy, vibrational patterns as well as
- 0:37physical air, food and drink and releasing back out again
- 0:42physical waste from our breathing mechanism, sweat and
- 0:46excretions of food and drink, waste, et cetera.
- 0:51In addition to the physical interchange, we also send out
- 0:54vibrations and energies so that the process is a two way
- 0:59interchange. All the time, curly and
- 1:03photography has shown evidence of an energy body surrounding
- 1:06our physical body, which many call the aura.
- 1:11This energy body is the first line of defence against
- 1:14suggestions of illness. For instance, when it is strong
- 1:18and whole, it can help to withstand physical, vital and
- 1:22even mental influences. At the same time, if there is
- 1:27any receptivity to the vibration, it takes up that
- 1:31energetic force and carries it inward to be accepted by the
- 1:36individual and have its impact awaken within, in many cases
- 1:41without the individual knowing how it came about.
- 1:46If we focus for a moment on the vibrational patterns, we can see
- 1:51that the interchange means that we can be subject to the
- 1:54feelings, emotions, willings of others.
- 1:59Many people report feeling drained after meeting a certain
- 2:02individual or spending time in a certain environment.
- 2:06Others feel enthused, energized. In other places.
- 2:11We can see crowds of people align their energies through
- 2:15identification with the speaker or the team or the cheer squad.
- 2:21All of these evidences A receptivity to the vibrations
- 2:26and an active intake of them, whether unconsciously or
- 2:30consciously as the case may be, Thought forms and exercises of
- 2:37silent willpower have a similar impact on the mental stuff of
- 2:41our nature. We can sometimes enter a
- 2:44research facility or a library and feel the concentrated mental
- 2:49energy that is active in that space.
- 2:52Those who attend lectures by spiritual leaders frequently
- 2:56remark on the intensity of the atmosphere as the concentration
- 3:00in the air impacts their own mental awareness.
- 3:05A disciple asks what is the nature of these influences from
- 3:09outside? Could you give us an explanation
- 3:12of their working? The mother writes.
- 3:15Quote Naturally, these influences are of a very diverse
- 3:20kinds. They may be studied from a
- 3:23psychological point of view or from an almost mechanical
- 3:27standpoint, the one usually translating the other.
- 3:32That is, the mechanical phenomenon occurs as a sort of
- 3:36result of the psychological one. In very few people, and even in
- 3:42the very best, at very rare moments in life, does the will
- 3:47of the being express that deep inner higher truth.
- 3:53After a silence, mother continues.
- 3:57The individual consciousness extends far beyond the body.
- 4:02We have seen that even the subtle physical, which is yet
- 4:05material compared with the vital being and in certain conditions
- 4:09almost visible, extends at times considerably beyond the visible
- 4:14limits of the physical body. This subtle physical is
- 4:18constituted of active vibrations which enter into contact or
- 4:23mingle with the vibrations of the subtle physical of others,
- 4:27and this reciprocal contact gives rise to influences.
- 4:32Naturally, the most powerful vibrations get the better of the
- 4:36others. For example, as I have already
- 4:40told you several times, if you have a thought, this thought
- 4:44clothes itself in subtle vibrations and becomes an entity
- 4:48which travels and moves about in the earth atmosphere in order to
- 4:53realize itself as best it can. And because it is one among
- 4:57millions, naturally there is a multiple and involved
- 5:01interaction as a result of which things don't take place in such
- 5:06a simple and schematic fashion. What you call yourself, the
- 5:12individual being enclosed within the limits of your present
- 5:15consciousness, is constantly penetrated by vibrations of this
- 5:20kind coming from outside, and very often presenting themselves
- 5:26in the form of suggestions, in the sense that apart from a few
- 5:31exceptions, the action takes place first in the mental field,
- 5:35then becomes vital, then physical.
- 5:39I want to make it clear that it is not a question of the pure
- 5:42mind here, but of the physical mind.
- 5:46For in the physical consciousness itself there is a
- 5:49mental activity, a vital activity, and a purely material
- 5:54activity, and all that takes place in your physical
- 5:58consciousness, in your body. Consciousness and bodily
- 6:02activity penetrates first in the form of vibrations of a mental
- 6:06nature, and so in the form of suggestions.
- 6:11Most of the time these suggestions enter you without
- 6:14your being in the least conscious of them.
- 6:16They go in, awaken some sort of response in you, then spring up
- 6:22in your consciousness as though they were your own thought, your
- 6:25own will, your own impulse. But it is only because you are
- 6:30unconscious of the process of their penetration.
- 6:34These suggestions are very numerous, manifold, varied with
- 6:39natures, which are very, very different from each other.
- 6:43But they may be classified into three principal orders. 1st, and
- 6:48they are hardly perceptible to the ordinary consciousness.
- 6:52They become perceptible only to those who have already reflected
- 6:56much, observed, much, deeply studied their own being.
- 7:01They are what could be called collective suggestions.
