- 1:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: We're not gonna do anything.
- 1:26SPEAKER_05: We should be like it.
- 1:27SPEAKER_05: What do you want?
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Just uh just kind of kidding ourselves.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Uh although I will say that is our life.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I will say I'm free from school now.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: School's out for summer.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Schae.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I should have had that ready to go.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Summer.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I should have had that song ready to go.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's like a weight is lifted.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean I I have a lot of crap I gotta do here, you know, at the house.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: But I'd like to think, you know, we're getting broadband internet in a couple days.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Um I'd like to think we'd get back to our promos and and and planning and trying to get guests on through the summer.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Oh sure.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Uh I'd like to think that.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Um That's a that's a nice thought.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a it's a good goal.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: It's a good goal.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: It's a goal.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, and it's an attainable goal.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: It's just gonna be a matter of um you know doing some work.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Work sucks.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Work sucks.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: I hate work.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, me too.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: You like my new mic stand?
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's very fancy.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I got that for four dollars.
- 2:29SPEAKER_05: How'd you manage that?
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't I to be honest.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Catholic charities.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Here's the thing, it costs like twenty-six.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: So it's still cheap.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I mean it's it's it it it does the trick, right?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Um so I found it on Amazon, and um I guess I must have forgotten that at some point I haven't ordered from Amazon in a while, like something besides music I've done either, but you know, that doesn't register with the regular Amazon.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: So I I guess I haven't ordered for a while because I forgot that I put in a gift card that I received as a teacher gift at one point, and so I I'm expecting 26, 27, maybe even thirty dollars to charge.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: And it was like four dollars and twenty-two cents.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Like, ooh, sweet.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: So it automatically uh charge my gift cards.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 3:20SPEAKER_05: That's pretty cool.
- 3:22SPEAKER_05: Very fancy.
- 3:23SPEAKER_05: It's very fancy line.
- 3:25SPEAKER_05: It's a fancy line.
- 3:26SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna have to get used to it now.
- 3:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:28SPEAKER_05: Um, today is an anniversary for me.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: It's for you?
- 3:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:31SPEAKER_05: Thirty-four years ago today, I landed in Marine Corps Recoup Depot, Paris Island.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Thirty-four years ago today?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Today.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 3:43SPEAKER_05: It's crazy, man.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: And I remember when you left.
- 3:46SPEAKER_05: The most terrifying day of my life up to that point.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: I remember when you left for that.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 3:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was crazy, man.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: I remember when you left, but more importantly, I remember when you came back for a visit.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: And we were like, who is that?
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was not the same guy.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: You were not the same guy.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:10SPEAKER_05: That was crazy, man.
- 4:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:11SPEAKER_05: I remember sitting on that bus and that drill instructor got on and started yelling.
- 4:15SPEAKER_05: First thing.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_05: First thing.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: But you expected it, though.
- 4:18SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, we knew that was going.
- 4:19SPEAKER_05: But still, I was like, my first thought was, I have made a terrible mistake.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: What have I done?
- 4:25SPEAKER_05: What have I done with my life?
- 4:27SPEAKER_05: And it did not get better from there.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Did it eventually get better though?
- 4:32SPEAKER_05: It doesn't get better, you just get used to it.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: I don't mean the drill sergeant, I just mean the the actual existing within the Marine Corps.
- 4:41SPEAKER_05: Nah, you know, it comes and goes.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:43SPEAKER_05: But it was, you know, you just, you know, you adapt to it.
- 4:46SPEAKER_05: I mean the the whole point of boot camp is to break you down and then rebuild you in their image.
- 4:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Is that is that uh you know, you see it in in movies and you hear about it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Is that ringing the bell thing real?
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Is that a seal thing, that's it.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: That's a s that's so that's just the seal.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: That's just seals, yeah.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: But can you like like if you were so say you you got there and were asking yourself what the hell have I done?
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Um do you can you get out?
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: If can can you Oh yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we had our second night there, a kid broke open his safety razor and slid his wrists.
- 5:20SPEAKER_05: You're kidding me.
- 5:21SPEAKER_05: No.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: No, I don't remember how about just like a uh sir, I'm done.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: I don't want to do it anymore.
- 5:26SPEAKER_05: No, I don't know.
- 5:27SPEAKER_05: I I I think that's the way to go, but this kid apparently was like, nope, I'm gonna cut my wrists.
- 5:33SPEAKER_12: Wow.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_05: I remember him I remember because I it was the middle of the night and I woke up to screaming.
- 5:40SPEAKER_05: Because the, you know, he was he was standing in the in the doorway of the of the of the head in the bathroom and just blood dripping down his f hands.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:49SPEAKER_05: Just standing there, and the drone instructor was like, you know, I'm just like, wow.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: Obviously, some deep-seated stuff there that uh I think uh just he just mentally couldn't take it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 6:00SPEAKER_05: So it was just crazy, man.
- 6:02SPEAKER_05: That was that was night two.
- 6:03SPEAKER_05: We hadn't really done anything yet.
- 6:04SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 6:05SPEAKER_05: I was like, dude, this is gonna suck.
- 6:07SPEAKER_05: But that's crazy.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: That is crazy.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Uh you had mentioned Well, congratulations, by the way.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Happy anniversary.
- 6:16SPEAKER_05: Well, thank you.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Is that is that a happy anniversary?
- 6:19SPEAKER_05: I survived, so yes.
- 6:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: You're you know, I s I always say, because I mean you're proud to be a Marine, obviously.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you you sing the praises and and everything.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Um so I guess yeah, it's a happy anniversary that you are.
- 6:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, I mean it sucked, but it's glad I did it.
- 6:36SPEAKER_05: Of course.
- 6:37SPEAKER_05: You know, that kind of thing.
- 6:38SPEAKER_05: Oh, cool.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Um Thank you for your service.
- 6:42SPEAKER_05: Thanks, man.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:43SPEAKER_05: Thanks me.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: So you mentioned Metallica that we were gonna have Metallica on the next episode.
- 6:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we are.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Um We can dream.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Uh have you s I sent it in the thread.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Did you watch that um thing that I sent in the thread?
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: The common costing thread.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: You haven't, have you?
- 7:01SPEAKER_05: Well, it depends.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: I've got to do it.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: Kelly Clarkson.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, yeah, I saw that.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: You watch it?
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: I want to play it.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Because that blew my mind.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was pretty awesome.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: That blew my mind.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, I didn't think I'd be mentioning Kelly Clarkson and Metallica in the same breath, but she does an unbelievable cover on her show.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: Hey, I'm your life, I'm the one who takes you there.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: Hey, I'm your life, I'm the one who cares.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: I know she's lost a lot of weight.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: I'm your only true friend now.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: She could sing anything.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: I'm forever there.
- 7:49SPEAKER_13: I'm your dream.
- 7:51SPEAKER_13: Make your ring.
- 7:53SPEAKER_13: I'm your eyes when you must taste.
- 7:56SPEAKER_13: I'm your tine when you can't faint.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Holy crap.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: And you know, it's it's it's I love the original anyway.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Um obviously Metallica's sad but true.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: She puts melody into it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: But she's she's like putting soul into that.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Just amazing.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: I saw that right before, you know, before we uh uh came down to do the podcast, probably like, I don't know, two, three hours ago.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: And I was like, my word.
- 9:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was it was pretty awesome.
- 9:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's pretty awesome.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that girl can sing.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I'd be curious to to see what the uh boys in Metallica think of that.
- 9:43SPEAKER_05: Oh, they're gonna love it.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:44SPEAKER_05: I mean who wouldn't?
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:46SPEAKER_05: I mean, you know, I you know I don't care who you are, man.
- 9:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah you know, that's awesome.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Um so I had a couple of things.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: I don't wanna I don't think I want to call this number.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Maybe I will.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Def Leopard, they're they're getting creative um with um debuting new music.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: So you can't uh they're not doing like a sample.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: And this is why I don't know that I want to take part.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Um they they What do you mean take part?
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Well well they they gotta join the cult or something?
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: No, but it's it's a f it's a phone call.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: And it's I think it's a collect not a collect, but it's a long distance phone call.
- 10:23SPEAKER_05: Is it like a toll-free number?
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: No, it's not.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: What the f- That's it so here's what they're doing.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: They posted this on X.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Uh Light up the fuel, just like 73, hotline now opened.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: And there's a UK number and there's a US number, and it's 1818.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Um where you can hear a snippet of their new song, just like 73.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: That's the only way you can hear a snippet of a new song is by calling that phone number.
- 10:50SPEAKER_05: This may be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: But I bet you I bet you I bet people are calling.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Everybody's calling.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: So I don't think I want to take part.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: I really want to hear it, because you know they're working on they're working on new music, right?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna bite.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna I want to.
- 11:07SPEAKER_05: You have reached Deaf Leopard to hear the song plus one now.
- 11:14SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 11:14SPEAKER_05: And then you have the Spanish Spanish version.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Um it's backed by a propulsive backbeat.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Joe Elliott can be heard singing what appears to be the tune's prechorus.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: A Stardust Religion, it's the end of days.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: I ride through the crazy on electric phase.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: A universal lust, it's so crazy cool.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: So turn on to me.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: It's time to light up the fuel.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Kind of lame, I guess.
- 11:42SPEAKER_05: But I hope the music's better than the.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do too.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: Uh just like 73 marks the first, new original material from Deaf Leopard.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Since their 2022 album, Diamond Star Halo's.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Uh I guess I didn't realize it was that long ago.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Two two years ago that they they released that.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Time flies, man.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Uh speaking of new music, uh, new stuff from a classic band.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, I didn't know this.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: Foghat put out an album last year called Sonic Mojo.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: We meant we did mention it.
- 12:10SPEAKER_05: Well, actually, I thought we talked about it.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: We did.
- 12:11SPEAKER_05: Well, or mentioned that they work out anyway.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that it was their first number one album.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: It debuted on Billboard's blues album chart in November of last year.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Oh wow.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Foghat's first number one album came in twenty twenty three.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: That's sad.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: It's amazing, yeah.
- 12:27SPEAKER_05: Um, what number do you have to call to get that album?
- 12:32SPEAKER_05: 1-800 Fog Hat.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: No telling what you'd get.
- 12:38SPEAKER_05: Um eight hundred Fog Hat.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: So they released a song.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Uh of course they've lost a few members, um passed away.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Um, and this was a dedication to Rod Price, who was one of their original guitar players.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: And I just want to sample that.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: This is called Black Days and Blue Nights.
- 13:01SPEAKER_05: Look at him.
- 13:02SPEAKER_05: He looks like he looks like what Charlie Watts would look like if he lived.
- 13:11SPEAKER_05: Actually, he looks like the love child of of uh Charlie Watts and D.
- 13:15SPEAKER_05: Schneider.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: So far, it's not too impressive.
- 13:22SPEAKER_05: I really know.
- 13:27SPEAKER_05: Sounds good though.
- 13:28SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah.
- 13:37SPEAKER_12: Sounds like another song.
- 14:05SPEAKER_05: Who's doing the camera work of 12-year-old?
- 14:08SPEAKER_05: Man, it's terrible.
- 14:10SPEAKER_05: But the you know, they sound still they still sound they sound really good though.
- 14:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: You know, fuck happen.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, was one of those camera work aside, I mean.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Everybody knew about because of Slowride.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: That was huge.
- 14:24SPEAKER_10: Slow ride.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, but they also had um a lot of other songs that made the charts, but they kind of flew under the radars, sort of.
- 14:34unknown: Yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: They were they were a band that was out there, but they were never like they're never huge.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 14:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Right, but they all they made a living.
- 14:40SPEAKER_05: So it was Well, I mean, they're still uh look, uh yeah.
- 14:43SPEAKER_05: It's what, 2024 and they're still around.
- 14:45SPEAKER_05: They're still around.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: And they sound good.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: And they sound good.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: So go get it.
- 14:48SPEAKER_05: Oh, it actually sounds pretty good.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: Go get you some fish.
- 14:50SPEAKER_05: Is that the cover?
- 14:51SPEAKER_05: Is that the cover album?
- 14:52SPEAKER_05: This one?
- 14:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, what's that?
- 14:53SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: Is that another story?
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: That's a list.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a list we're gonna get to here.
- 14:57SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 14:58SPEAKER_05: It's the Sphinx wearing glasses.
- 15:00SPEAKER_05: I was a little confused.
- 15:01SPEAKER_05: Um looks like a postcard.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: I do I do have an Ultimate Classic Rock list I want to do.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, do you want to do that before we do the Michael McDonald thing?
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll just do the list now.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Do the list now.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:10SPEAKER_05: So this is So I can I can get upset for it.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: So I know it's probably gonna be stupid.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: I think it's no, it's it's actually there's a couple things I disagree with, um, but I I can't really disagree with them because I didn't have these albums.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: So here's here's the thing.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Top 20 hard rock and metal albums of 1989.
- 15:30SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 15:30SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 15:31SPEAKER_05: This all would be interesting.
- 15:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: So um number 20 is Kiss Hot in the Shade.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Now, but the the album before this, they had that crazy, crazy nights.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: These are crazy, crazy, crazy.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: And it was kind of a hit for 'em.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Uh this is the closest they came on on this album.
- 15:49SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna run!
- 15:52SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna risk do it.
- 15:56unknown: I'm gonna ride! I'm gonna ride, I'm gonna ride.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Now I like Kiss.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: I do, for the most part.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: Um top album of 1989?
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Would you put Hot in the Shade in there?
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: Well, it is the top 20.
- 16:17SPEAKER_05: True.
- 16:19SPEAKER_05: So Yeah, why not?
- 16:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: I mean, it doesn't suck.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, that's true.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: But it's not great.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Keep it simple, stupid, right?
- 16:28SPEAKER_05: That's I mean, that's it's the KISS principle.
- 16:29SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 16:30SPEAKER_05: So I you know I think that's basically how KISS is operated.
- 16:34SPEAKER_05: That was what I just got there.
- 16:36SPEAKER_05: I made a joke, didn't even realize it.
- 16:37SPEAKER_05: I'm so stupid.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, so number 19, Wasp, The Headless Children.
- 16:43SPEAKER_05: Oh god.
- 16:44SPEAKER_05: I didn't even know Wasp came out with an album.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: I didn't I didn't have this album, so I wasn't into Wasp back then.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: Still not.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Uh the Her The Heretic, The Lost Child, uh Thunderhead, Mean Man, Rebel in the FDG.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: FDG, I guess.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: Friggin' Dumb Guy.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Dumb guy.
- 17:06SPEAKER_05: What a cool song.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Um I don't have that one.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: So this one, of course.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, they see yeah, that that should be way higher.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: Now hold on, I don't I didn't have that one pulled up.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Because I have that in my in my collection, because this is definitely this is definitely on the list.
- 17:21SPEAKER_05: This is the boat, it should be way higher than it is on this.
- 17:24SPEAKER_05: Actually, let me go, let me.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, well, this is how the album starts.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Let's just do this.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Because 1989, you first heard this.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I had this on cassette.
- 17:34SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: Notice we haven't said what it is yet.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Well, remember should be of course this is an extreme debut album.
- 18:11SPEAKER_05: I never thought when I first heard this album, I would still be listening to Extreme, you know, 30 years later.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: And they'd be better than they are on this album.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Uh well, of course everybody knows this one.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: This is Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Is it?
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Isn't it?
- 18:33SPEAKER_05: No, this isn't it.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: No, no, that's not Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee's on the next album.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's on, yeah.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: This is just the beginning of Mother Don't Wanna Go to School Today.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Apropos the end of a school year.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: We're just gonna we're gonna drool over Nunobeton courts guitar playing here for a second.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: This is the guy that had the greatest guitar solo of 2022, 23?
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: When did that album seven come out or six come out?
- 19:26SPEAKER_05: Twenty-three, right?
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: Was it twenty-three?
- 19:28SPEAKER_05: June of last year?
- 19:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think so.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Eve every guitar player, even no matter how famous, they said that Nuno Beton court's uh guitar solo on Is it Rise from the album Six, which is their latest album, is the greatest guitar solo in the last 20 years, at least.
- 19:49SPEAKER_05: Well, it's not hard because people have the the art of the guitar solo is slowly going away.
- 19:54SPEAKER_05: It's true.
- 19:55SPEAKER_05: So the flanger.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, so this was kind of a hit for them, but I want to play this one.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Remember Bill and Ted?
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: This doesn't do it justice.
- 20:38SPEAKER_05: We're only playing stupid if Yeah, if I if I hadn't watched Bill and Ted, I never would have heard this album.
- 20:44SPEAKER_05: Really?
- 20:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah, honestly, I would have never heard this album.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Because you were like, Where what is that?
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Where did that come from?
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: I get that.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: Uh so that's Extreme's debut album, uh, called Extreme.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Badlands.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: I don't remember those names.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Now, Badlands.
- 20:59SPEAKER_05: I don't even remember this band.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Badlands debut album.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: I do remember that, of course, Jake E.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Lee, who was a guitar player for Ozzy Osborne.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Um, and Eric Singer from Kiss uh were in this band.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Other than that, uh oh, the lead singer was kind of well known, Ray Gillen.
- 21:16SPEAKER_05: Um, Ray, yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_05: Ray and I go way back.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: But I I I didn't really listen.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: What up, Ray?
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: I really didn't listen to these guys.
- 21:25SPEAKER_05: I didn't either.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: So uh that's not so I can't really comment on it whether it deserves to be on this list or not.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: It might be pretty cool.
- 21:32SPEAKER_05: Might be, might not.
- 21:33SPEAKER_05: We don't know.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: Um time will not tell.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Uh this one though definitely deserves to be on the list.
- 21:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 21:42SPEAKER_05: This was a great album.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: This is number sixteen, the great radio controversy.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So the songs that you'll recognize from this album are really kind of the songs that put them on the map.
- 22:08SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: I would say.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: This was their easily their most successful album.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Heaven's Trail, No Way Out.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Great song.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Not in a place that you would expect.
- 22:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: So this was a this was a single.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: This was a single.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: The way it is.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Of course, this one.
- 22:57SPEAKER_05: I never heard this one.
- 22:58SPEAKER_05: Yes, you have.
- 23:00SPEAKER_05: I don't know this song at all.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: This is love song.
- 23:07SPEAKER_05: Definitely one of the prettiest intros.
- 23:09SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna play the whole thing because we have a list to get to, but you want to know my favorite song on this album?
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: You might not.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: Can you guess what my favorite song is?
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: I have no idea.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: No, okay.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: I'm not even I'm not even gonna attempt it.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: This is my favorite song on this album.
- 23:28SPEAKER_05: Because you like planes?
- 23:30SPEAKER_05: No.
- 23:31SPEAKER_05: I want to be a pilot! I just I just dig this song.
- 23:36SPEAKER_05: I can't remember what this song is.
- 23:37SPEAKER_05: Flight to Nowhere.
- 23:38SPEAKER_05: Oh, right, right, right.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Very deaf leopard.
- 23:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's a very Die Hard the hunter.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: But when it when it kicks in, just that guitar riff.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I dig that song.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Great song.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: That's easily my easily my favorite on the album.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: Um Michael Munro, not faking it, number 15.
- 24:28SPEAKER_05: Wasn't he uh Hanoi Rock.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Hanoi Rock, yes.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I never followed them.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: And I never followed Don't even really care.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Michael Munro either.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: So uh I can't we can't really comment on that one, whether that that belongs on the list or not.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Dangerous toys.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Do you remember dangerous toys?
- 24:43SPEAKER_05: I do remember dangerous toys.
- 24:45SPEAKER_05: Uh they had uh uh Lawn Darts was my favorite one.
- 24:49unknown: Hold on.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: Um I mean that's just the most dangerous toy I've ever spoken to it.
- 24:56SPEAKER_05: Do you remember Teasing Pleasin'?
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: My favorite though, um, from Dangerous Toys was this song.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: Do you remember Scared?
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Uh it was very melodic for Dangerous because Dangerous Toys was like a a um dirty, you know, down bluesy um band.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Um how do I want to say it?
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: But this one was the man in the white man.
- 25:42SPEAKER_11: Do you remember the thing?
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: The chorus is pretty melodic.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: So that's that's kind of sounds like 1989, right?
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that's from their debut album, Dangerous Toys, which is the name of it.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Uh Nirvana's Bleach.
- 26:34SPEAKER_05: Okay, I don't think this should be even on that list because nobody had heard of Nirvana at this point.
- 26:40SPEAKER_05: Not until Nevermind, really.
- 26:41SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well what was on Bleach?
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Uh Negative creep, uh song called School.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: About a girl was on was on Bleach, though.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, they were kind of a buzz word.
- 26:54SPEAKER_05: You know, they they Well, they were only famous in Seattle at this point.
- 26:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's probably.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think that's true.
- 27:04SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: I agree with that.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Uh that they're at number 13 with Bleach.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: Um one that I don't know how I feel about.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, I love the album, but um the top in the top twenty.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: So this is number this is number twelve from 1989.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: It looks like Sag.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: It is Sag.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: Um and it's which one's this?
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: It is hold on a second.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, right there, no, right there.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Right there, I got it.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, right here.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: So this one.
- 27:44SPEAKER_05: Oh, Flying in a Blue Blue Dream.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: Okay, that's what it was.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Great album.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: This is one that he sang on.
- 27:51SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's right, I forgot about that.
- 27:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: He didn't sing on this song in particular, but so if you're wondering who we're talking about, Joe Santriani is an instrumental guitar player, um, like hard rock guitar player, Shredder.
- 28:10SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: And he's also in Chicken Foot with Sammy Hagar and is on tour with Sammy Hagar, Mike Anthony, and Jason.
- 28:16SPEAKER_05: Well, he may be one of the most influential guitar players of all time.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Guaranteed gave guitar lessons to Steve Vai and Kirk Kamet, among other people.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Yep, so number 12 in 1989, like best album.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: Maybe there I don't know.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: I had it, I loved it.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: There's this one, this is the one he he sang on.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: You remember this?
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: This one had a video.
- 29:05SPEAKER_06: I've been out walking for hours.
- 29:11SPEAKER_06: I got something on my mind.
- 29:15SPEAKER_06: How did we get here?
- 29:18SPEAKER_06: Where are we going?
- 29:22SPEAKER_06: And why is life so I'm gonna play the whole thing, but this is I believe.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: I believe you remember that?
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Um so I mean I have like just in my iTunes right now, I have ten Joe Centriani albums.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: I mean we're slacker.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I'm a big fan.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Uh number 11, ministry.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: The mind is a terrible thing to taste.
- 29:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I guess.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: Very industrial metal.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't remember.
- 29:57SPEAKER_05: I don't remember this.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I remember when when I was in college, one of my neighbor uh guys in the dorm used to listen to ministry, and I was just like, what is this?
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, it wasn't uh LA Guns.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: I was never a fan of LA Guns.
- 30:12SPEAKER_05: I never was either.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: No, uh Ballad of Jane was the you know the one.
- 30:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, everybody knows that song, yeah.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: But and I think this one, this is the one the one that uh Ballad of Jane was on, an album called Cocked and Loaded.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: So this was number 10, uh the best album of 1989.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Alice Cooper's Trash.
- 30:29SPEAKER_05: Oh the song Poison was that one.
- 30:32SPEAKER_05: That's a great song.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: And remember, I played you that, um, I don't know if you remember, actually.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Uh where did it go?
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, there it is.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Okay, so this is what you're talking about.
- 30:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: No, but it was this was huge.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: But I I think I did this on a podcast before, so that's poison from Alice Cooper.
- 31:21SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, we talked about it.
- 31:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, this is John Wait.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: John Wayne.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: And I do think that there was some either like out of court, or maybe the songwriter that was on this song also took that riff and put maybe.
- 31:40SPEAKER_05: I mean, that's you know, I think I think there's a lot of in-breeding at that point.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think people got what they were supposed to get.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Soundgarden number eight, louder than love.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Again, nobody had heard of Soundgarden yet.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Right, because Bad Motor Finger was like 91, was the one that had that's the one that broke them out, you know.
- 31:56SPEAKER_05: So nobody, you know, maybe it was great, but nobody had heard of it yet.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: So I wouldn't put this at at no you know, especially number eight.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: No, I mean that's just ridiculous.
- 32:07SPEAKER_05: You're ridiculous.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: You're ridiculous.
- 32:11SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 32:17SPEAKER_01: So this is Warrant.
- 32:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, Gillen and I were working at the pool that summer, and we had this, I bought this album, and we played it at the pool so much we wore it out and had to buy another one.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: So I saw Gillen today, actually.
- 32:30SPEAKER_05: Did you?
- 32:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Uh Dirty, Rotten, Filthy, Stinkin' Rich is this album from Warrant.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: I remember there was a kid when I was in high school.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: There was a kid that was, he was uh he was a rich kid.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: Um uh very well off, known known for a very coming from a very well-off family in town.
- 32:50SPEAKER_05: Uh was he one of the pigs?
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: Uh no, I don't think so.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: No.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: And and he was he was a nice guy.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: It was just it was one of those things where dad, I want to play guitar.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Okay, well, let's get you a full Marshall stack and uh the best guitar ever.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: And and you know, who who would not excel when you have only the best equipment?
- 33:15SPEAKER_05: Well, you would think.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: And he did.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was a great guitar player, and I remember we, you know, at one winter carnival, he and uh a couple of the guys uh got up on stage at the high school and played this song, and I was like and I was like, Of course, I was like a freshman, I think.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: I was like, holy crap, this I mean you can do this?
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: This is really cool.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, I I distinctly remember that.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: And then he went on, he went on to um he moved to Nashville and um is a producer and songwriter.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Oh and you know that I don't know if you've ever heard of the band Red.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: It's a it's like a modern rock uh band, but they're very popular and kind of huge uh in those circles, and uh he produces them and and writes writes with them.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: So it's yeah, it's cool.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: His name is Rob.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna, because I told him I called him Rob, I called him a rich kid, so I'm not gonna say what his last name is.
- 34:09SPEAKER_09: Um but yeah, this all this also had and it had uh I Saw Red.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: No, it didn't.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: Sometimes she cries.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Sometimes she cried.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: I saw Red came from the next album.
- 34:29SPEAKER_05: That was the next one.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I dug I dug that album.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: Uh so and that was at number seven.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: Number six, nine inch nails, pretty hate machine.
- 34:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I remember I remember this album.
- 34:46SPEAKER_05: I wasn't into nine inch nails, but I remember this album.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it it peaked at number 75 on the Billboard uh 200.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: Uh this isn't the one with closer on it, is it?
- 34:56SPEAKER_05: I don't think so.
- 34:57SPEAKER_05: I think that came later.
- 34:58SPEAKER_05: Came later, yeah.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Because that's that's when I heard of nine inch nails.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: That's not true.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: I heard of nine-inch nails, but closer was pretty big because it was so controversial.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Um, and then of course, these guys.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: I definitely would put this.
- 35:17SPEAKER_05: Oh, this was definitely a top in the top five.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: This is Faith No More, an epic.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Well, the album is called The Real Thing.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: To this day, I think when people think Faith No More, they think it's a good thing.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Such a great song.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: And the video is pretty cool too.
- 35:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the video is very cool.
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, and but the lead singer is just uh fruitcake.
- 35:55SPEAKER_05: Well, you know, he did Mr.
- 35:57SPEAKER_05: Bungle and he's done a bunch of stuff, so yeah, yeah, he's a he's a bit of an odd ball.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Mike Patton is what's his name.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: Uh number four, I agree with as well.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: From the cult, Sonic Temple.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Ah, such a great thought.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: Of course, Bob Rock produced this one.
- 36:28SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I you can't really can't really go wrong with the cult.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Uh Motley Crue's Doctor Feel Good.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, that was that was huge.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: Another Bob Rock.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna play anything from it because I don't really care for Motley Crue.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Except for that is my favorite album.
- 36:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's from Motley Crue.
- 36:54SPEAKER_05: The only really good Motley Crue album.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: Well, you know what?
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: I maybe I will play a couple a couple because just for frames of reference here, because I uh actually, you know what?
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Do I have it in here?
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Yes I do.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Uh and that's the only album I have.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: So you know the title cut, Doctor Feel Good.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: But I will say, and okay, so Doctor Feel Good, Kickstart My Heart, Without You, were all singles.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Same old situation was a single, but this is my favorite one.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Don't go away, man.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Just go away.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Just go away, yeah.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's I don't know why it's my favorite, but it's my favorite.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: But I think everybody who was anybody uh in 1989 or 88 or whenever this was recorded was on this album.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Brian Adams was on this album.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, it was huge, man.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Jim Valant, his songwriting partner.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Uh I think Jack Blades from Night Ranger was on this album.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: I think uh even John Bon Jovi may have peeked in the studio.
- 38:03SPEAKER_09: I'm not sure, but we have a mega feel.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this was uh this was a great album, and I will say that, uh even though they're not my favorite song, favorite uh band.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: Skid Row, the debut album.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: 18 in life.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Still a great album.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: I remember you.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: I mean, do you think Skid Row sings Youth Gone Wild in concert now?
- 38:24SPEAKER_05: We've already discussed this.
- 38:26SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: What did you say?
- 38:28SPEAKER_05: I said yes.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're probably right.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: But Lizzie Hale is singing is singing with him now.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, why not, man?
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: My word.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: And and uh John Bon Jove wasn't doing an interview, uh, by the way, and her name came up, and he's like because she had uh uh Eddie Trunk had interviewed Lizzie, and she says she's open to singing with Skid Row uh as long as she can keep her other band, and she's open to singing with him whenever they need her.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: And you know, I I don't know if they're gonna be actively looking for another singer or if they're just gonna stick with her.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: And John Bajovi was in an interview and that came up, and he's like, Lizzie Hale, Lizzie Hale, if you're listening, join Skid Row.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Join Skid Row because because it's a it's a match made in heaven.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: He's like, I don't care if you have to combine Skid Row and Hailstorm.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, but I don't know why she couldn't do both.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Or keep or keep doing both.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I haven't heard her sing with Skid Row, but I would imagine it's amazing.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: How could you go wrong?
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Um so the number one I thought that was the number one.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: The number one is I know what's on.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Let me see.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: I know this one's on there.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: So this is obviously Aerosmith and the album Pump, which is their follow-up to Permanent Vacation.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Um Janie's Got a Gun, What It Takes, which is my favorite Aerosmith song.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Um Love in an Elevator.
- 40:30SPEAKER_05: I love that song.
- 40:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:31SPEAKER_05: Still love that song.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: So I would say that's probably deserving.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: Do you think it's deserving at number one?
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was pretty big.
- 40:41SPEAKER_05: It was huge, man.
- 40:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was pretty big.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Uh you couldn't go anywhere without hearing Aerosmith.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I would say that probably deserves the number one spot.
- 40:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I I I I have no problem with it.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Um, so and that's it.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: That's Ultimate Classic Rocks list.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: Now again, there's some that I can't really comment on because I never heard them.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: I don't have the albums.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: Um there might be some that I would put on there that weren't on there.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Um I can't think of them right off the top of my head, but actually, let's just since we have the technology.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Uh type of metal.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: If anything comes up here.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: Well, this is an actual article that we're looking at.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: Uh 1989 albums.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: 1989 in heavy metal music.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Um just looking real quick.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: Um Black Saddam, Headless Cross.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: Blue Murder.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Blue Murder, that was a great album.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: From 1989, that was John's Lycus from White Snake.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: Um I don't remember.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: Uh we talked about the cult.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: Danger Danger.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: Uh do you remember Danger Danger?
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: I I wouldn't put them in the air.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: I'm just looking here.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: Did you know Dream Theater?
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: I didn't really I didn't realize they were that old.
- 42:15SPEAKER_05: They were a long time ago.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: Um extreme we already talked about.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: I'm just looking real quick.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: There's nothing that's jumping out, so they may have done a pretty good job of uh uh getting those all getting all those albums in there.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: XYZ, do you remember XYZ?
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a great album.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: I would have put that on the code.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: White snake slip of the tongue?
- 42:40SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 42:41SPEAKER_01: White Lion Big Game.
- 42:42SPEAKER_05: How do those not make it?
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would have put those on there probably.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Tora Torah.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: I remember Tora Torah.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: Uh just going real quick.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Uh Signal! Signal is 1989.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but nobody knows that album.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: I love that album.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: That's one of my uh Desert Island albums.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Um a band called Signal.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: They had a Oh, Mr.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Big's debut album.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah! Came out in 89.
- 43:12SPEAKER_05: I'd put that on there.
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: I would put that on there too.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Um Macaulay Shinker Group.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they probably did a pretty good job.
- 43:21SPEAKER_05: Um not great, but pretty good.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, pretty good.
- 43:24SPEAKER_01: Um definitely put Mr.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Big on there.
- 43:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, some I agree with, some I I don't necessarily agree with, but that's okay.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Um, okay, so let's do we're moving on now.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Let's do this.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: Moving on.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Can we do this?
- 43:40SPEAKER_01: Is it okay to do this right now?
- 43:42SPEAKER_05: Well, you're playing the music, so it's gotta be.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, I can stop the music if I have to.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: Well, that would be stupid.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: It would be.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: Can I share my Michael McDonald first?
- 43:49SPEAKER_05: No.
- 43:53SPEAKER_05: Because your one's gonna be stupid.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, but so there is an R.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Article about Michael McDonald's kind of run-in with Ray Charles.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Is that in the book?
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, it is in the book.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: It is in the book.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: So they were doing a charity thing in 2000.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: He was being honored.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Michael McDonald was being honored by Nam with a tribute concert.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: And as he recalled, the proceeds of the tribute event were going to go to a program that tries to seek to keep music programs in public schools alive by donating instruments and text.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: So it was a charity thing.
- 44:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: And nobody was getting paid.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: None of the artists were getting paid.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: Artists like the Doobie Brothers, Boss Gaggs, Kenny Loggins, Steve Winwood, and of course Michael McDonald.
- 44:40SPEAKER_01: And Ray Charles was going to be there.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: And so he said everybody agreed that as long as the money is all going to charity, we're all good.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: And apparently, uh Ray Charles had not gotten that memo.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: Hours before the show, McDonald was summoned by Charles's uh summoned to Ray Charles's trailer.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: He says, His road manager came to me and he was like out of a Lon Cheney movie or something.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: He had the cane and he just looked like some kind of mobster figure, and he says, The boss wants to talk to you.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: So Michael McDonald approached Ray Charles.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: Uh he was very friendly at first.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: Um, and then he goes, Listen, you gotta give me something.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: He realized that Ray Charles was talking about money.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: Uh he said, uh, you know, I would pay you out of my own pocket.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: I'd be happy to.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: My only problem is that I've kind of put it to everyone, gave everyone my word that all the money from this is going to charity.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: And if I paid anyone, no matter how willing I'm to do that, I'd be breaking my word to everybody else.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: So it put him in a weird spot.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Uh he's like, I'm an old man.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: Damn it, the singer declared.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: I don't play this for free.
- 45:50SPEAKER_01: There's some expletives in there that I'm not putting.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: Um so McDonald said he had given his solemn oath that the money would go to charity.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: And Ray Charles said something to the effect of, I don't give a blank about your solemn oath.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Um, and he said, uh, Michael McDonald said to himself, Boy, if my friends in Ferguson could see me now, Ray Charles chewing my ass out.
- 46:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: So that gives you a little insight into the genius of Ray Charles.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: Uh a lot like, wasn't he one of the ones that you said we used to get paid?
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Or is that Chuck Berry?
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Chuck Barry.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Chuck Barry.
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: But it's the same, it's the same thing.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: It's that generation.
- 46:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:27SPEAKER_05: And get paid up front.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that is in the book.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: Because this was from a podcast.
- 46:31SPEAKER_01: This was an interview from a podcast.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: No, it's in the book.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 46:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he also talks about the last time he played with uh Ray Charles too before he died and stuff like that.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: So and that's all good memories, right?
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:43SPEAKER_05: He was just I think he was just taken aback because he was such a big fan of Ray Charles, and then when you know he went off on him about this big, he was like never meet your heroes.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: That kind of thing, yeah.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: Alright, so you have the book with you.
- 46:58SPEAKER_05: I do, because uh it said something interesting that I wanted to uh bring up here.
- 47:03SPEAKER_05: When I where is it?
- 47:07SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 47:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's about it's about the state of music now.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: Oh good, because we talk about that ad nauseum.
- 47:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we do.
- 47:17SPEAKER_05: But it's interesting when it comes from him.
- 47:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 47:19SPEAKER_05: Uh so it's basically he's talking about the music industry.
- 47:23SPEAKER_05: Radio, like the music industry itself, is an ever-evolving beast.
- 47:26SPEAKER_05: When I started really listening to records in the late 50s and early 60s, the stuff I love on the smaller independent labels like Stacks, Motown, Volt, Chess, Bang, and Smash grew in popularity as a backlash to the few major labels who, up until then, were more or less dictating the music that people were most likely to hear.
- 47:47SPEAKER_05: And later, FM stations were a similar response to the restrictive top 40 formats prevalent in national AM radio.
- 47:55SPEAKER_05: Today, unfortunately, radio stations have yet again largely syndicated into a uniform, nationwide format that basically predetermines what the masses will hear.
- 48:06SPEAKER_05: And that yin-yang dynamic seems to always be in motion.
- 48:10SPEAKER_05: For every effort made by the corporate mainstream to control the market, you can bet there will always be that counteraction by the public at large to widen the artistic playing field.
- 48:21SPEAKER_05: Today, Spotify, iTunes, and the like have vastly expanded access to music that might not otherwise be heard.
- 48:28SPEAKER_05: But in the process, they've arbitrarily rewritten the regulations that would have given any fair compensation to the artists and songwriters who provide this content.
- 48:38SPEAKER_05: Hopefully, a more equitable arrangement in the near future.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what we've been saying all along.
- 48:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so but coming from Michael McDonald, it means more.
- 48:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so I think so.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, you you could most people would say times change, you just gotta change with the times.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: But no, it's not, it's it's different.
- 48:57SPEAKER_05: It's somebody's livelihood.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Right, it is and they're not able to have that livelihood, yeah, you know, anymore.
- 49:03SPEAKER_01: So it's yeah, it's crazy.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: It's crazy.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: Anyway, that's our Michael McDonald moment.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: Um, that's all I had.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: We got we got to climb the wall of twos.
- 49:15SPEAKER_05: No, we're gonna play mixed tape.
- 49:16SPEAKER_05: Oh, yes.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: How did you forget that?
- 49:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know what?
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: And I let's see.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: I gotta remember what uh song.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Actually, what was the question?
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Because I'm gonna go with my gut again, because I remember my gut.
- 49:31SPEAKER_05: Um It was the Dom Perignon one.
- 49:34SPEAKER_05: The Dom Perignon one?
- 49:36SPEAKER_05: That's this week's question.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Uh well we'll get to that in a second.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: So l last week's question was Oh, who was the winner?
- 49:43SPEAKER_05: What were the what was last week's?
- 49:45SPEAKER_05: Well, it was the rainy day.
- 49:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, and I did Missing You by John Waite.
- 49:49SPEAKER_05: Cousin Larry did uh I don't remember.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: What did you do?
- 50:00SPEAKER_05: I did uh Rainy Days and Mondays.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: Rainy Days and Mondays, that's right.
- 50:04SPEAKER_05: Uh oh, he did uh Rainy Day People.
- 50:10SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: Uh Jordan Gordon Lightfoot, right?
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: And who won that?
- 50:15SPEAKER_05: Uh well, the winner this week was me.
- 50:19SPEAKER_01: Rainy Days and Mondays.
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: Rainy Days and Mondays.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: Let me do this.
- 50:25SPEAKER_05: But uh she actually got in on the uh Oh she did?
- 50:28SPEAKER_05: Yes, which I thought was interesting.
- 50:30SPEAKER_05: She said, if I picked one, I would go with because this is why I picked her to be the judge.
- 50:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: Because she has a very eclectic taste in music and not, you know, necessarily stuff I've ever heard.
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: Uh if I picked one, I would go with fight song slash amazing grace by the piano guys.
- 50:53SPEAKER_01: Fight like fight song like the like the uh what's her name?
- 50:57SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 50:58SPEAKER_05: It just says fight song slash amazing grace by the piano guys.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: It is a cover.
- 51:12SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: It says Rachel Platinum Scottish cover.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: But it doesn't say amazing race.
- 51:54SPEAKER_05: That's an eyeball.
- 51:55SPEAKER_05: That's another eyeball.
- 52:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I like it too.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's yeah, I totally get it.
- 52:43SPEAKER_01: I'm curious, because I'm not gonna play the whole thing, but I'm curious.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: I'm jumping now.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: Actually, no, that's just fight song.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Piano guys fight song amazing grace.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Here, hold on.
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: This is the same thing.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: Told ya.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: I because I listen to this stuff all the time.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: Not necessarily the piano guys, but you know, I'm I listen to instrumental piano music a lot.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: This one says fight song amazing grace, so I'm assuming somewhere in there uh they start playing Amazing Grace as well.
- 54:12SPEAKER_01: So we're not gonna we're not gonna uh but good choice.
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 54:16SPEAKER_01: Yep, that's very cool.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Alright, so uh this week's question was The Dom Perignon.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, remind me what it was because I don't know.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: I don't like that.
- 54:26SPEAKER_05: I just remember something about the Dom Perignon.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Where's the the the Did you put it on the top?
- 54:31SPEAKER_05: I have no idea.
- 54:33SPEAKER_05: A week ago.
- 54:34SPEAKER_05: I don't even remember what I chose.
- 54:36SPEAKER_05: I did put it on there.
- 54:37SPEAKER_05: Uh you were a vintage bottle of Dom Perignon.
- 54:40SPEAKER_05: What song do you want to be popped to?
- 54:43SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: Oh what was my gut on that one?
- 54:48SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: Vintage bottle of Dom Perignon.
- 54:52SPEAKER_05: Well, while you're thinking, I'll tell you what Cousin Larry said.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, please, because I yeah.
- 54:57SPEAKER_05: Uh let's see.
- 54:59SPEAKER_05: Well, here's what he said.
- 55:00SPEAKER_05: A few obvious choices were would be We Are the Champions and Celebration.
- 55:05SPEAKER_05: I hate that song.
- 55:06SPEAKER_05: But my greatest moments were the birth of my children.
- 55:09SPEAKER_05: Songs like open arms wide open by Creed, Father and Daughter by Paul Simon.
- 55:14SPEAKER_05: But I will go with Beautiful Boy by John Lennon.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: For the birth of my first child.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
- 55:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's a song.
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: I thought that was awesome.
- 55:24SPEAKER_01: Since I'm right here, I think I think I have that one.
- 55:52SPEAKER_01: Trying to think of a song.
- 55:53SPEAKER_07: Close your eyes.
- 56:01SPEAKER_07: The monster's gone.
- 56:03SPEAKER_07: He's on the run, and your dad is here.
- 56:10SPEAKER_07: Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: And I get I get what he's we're what he's going for.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: Alright, go ahead.
- 56:21SPEAKER_05: Mine was instinctual.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 56:23SPEAKER_05: It was celebrate, cool in the gang.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, dude, that was gonna be mine.
- 56:27SPEAKER_01: I was I was I was uh as I as I was listening to John Lennon, I'm like, well, it's a celebration, so it would be Yeah, so that was mine.
- 56:36SPEAKER_05: Which cousin Larry hates.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that might have been mine.
- 57:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, I know it's uh no, I mean it works, but it works.
- 57:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know.
- 57:22SPEAKER_05: Like I said, it was a distinct tool.
- 57:23SPEAKER_05: That's just that was the first one that came to my head, and so that's the one I'm gonna go with.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know, man.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: Let's celebrate.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: There's a body going on right here.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: A celebration to last throughout the year.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna turn it down.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: I I I let's see.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: And I remember having a gut instinct when you said that.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: But obviously it faded.
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: Um faded.
- 58:15SPEAKER_01: I think I have one though.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 58:17SPEAKER_01: Um I I think because I was thinking celebration.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: And I don't know why all of a sudden I started thinking this song.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: Um I think I have it here too.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: And I don't don't don't ask me why.
- 58:37SPEAKER_05: I don't version.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: Sound familiar at all?
- 58:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 59:07SPEAKER_07: Thinking of the fear of heaven.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: We're gonna go with that one.
- 59:11SPEAKER_07: All right.
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: That wasn't my first choice.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: But that's what I'm going with.
- 59:18unknown: Listen to the fear.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: You're reminiscing.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: You know, and I'll keep holding on, just give me a drink.
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: Don't peign all.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: Kind of jazzy.
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: Sort of.
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: Alright, so holding back the years from Simply Red.
- 59:41SPEAKER_01: Cool and the Gang celebration.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:44SPEAKER_01: And uh Beautiful Boy.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: Beautiful boy.
- 59:47SPEAKER_05: By John Lennon.
- 59:48SPEAKER_05: So those are the song this week.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: That was a tough one.
- 59:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was a tough one.
- 59:56SPEAKER_01: I thought anyway.
- 59:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 59:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 59:57SPEAKER_05: Well, this one's gonna be even tougher.
- 59:58SPEAKER_05: Uh oh.
- 59:59SPEAKER_05: The one for next week.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_05: You have one?
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_05: I already have it already.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_05: Are you ready?
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Because what if I'm gonna write down my gut.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: If it comes to me.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_01: If it comes to me really quickly, I'm gonna write it down.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: Alright, right so I don't forget it.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_05: Play the song your best friend would say reminds them of you.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: Oh, jeez.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, nothing is coming to mind.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, see?
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_05: Told you.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, hold on, I'm gonna write that down though.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: Play the song.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, of course this pen doesn't work.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_05: Dang it.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_05: Of course it isn't.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_05: Stupid pen! Let's try that one here.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_01: Why are you such a stupid pen?
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: Play the song your best friend says would say.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_05: Would say reminds them of you.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: Reminds them of you.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's gonna be tough.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_05: Told ya.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: I don't even that means I have to kind of reflect on myself.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: Um that's always fun.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's always a it's always a joy.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.

- 1:03:27SPEAKER_01: He was a lot older.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: Just a day.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_05: A couple days.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: Um, alright, so it's our time for our bonus Beatles bits.

- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: Steve Turner.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna go get an album.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_05: We uh we've hit the white album.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_05: And the song this week is Helter Skelter.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_08: Helter Skelter!
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_05: The concept for Helter Skelter came from a music paper's rave review of a new single by The Who.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_05: At the time, Paul hadn't heard the single in question, but the paper's comments made him want to create something which could provoke an equally powerful description.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_05: The single was I Can See for Miles, which was released in October 1967.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_05: Good song.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_05: And the most likely review was written by Chris Welch and Melody Maker.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_05: Forget Happy Jack sitting in sand on the Isle of Man, wrote Welch.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_05: This marathon epic of swearing cymbals and cursing guitars marks the return of the Who as a major freakout force.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_05: Recorded in America, it is a Pete Townsend composition filled with Townsend mystery and menace and delivered by the emphatic Mr.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_05: Roger Daltrey.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_05: However, it is impossible to be sure that this was in fact the review because Paul's description has changed over the years.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_05: In 1968, he reported that this review had said the group grows really wild with echo and screaming and everything.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_05: But 20 years later, his memory of it was more fanciful, claiming that it described the Who single as the loudest, most raucous, rock and roll, the dirtiest thing they'd ever done.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_05: However, Paul's account of the effect that the review had on him hasn't changed.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_05: I thought that's a pity, I would like to do something like that.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_05: Then I heard it and it was nothing like it.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_05: It was straight and sophisticated, so we did this.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_05: I like noise.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_05: Despite being described as having swearing cymbals and cursing guitars, I can see for miles, had a discernible melody throughout and could not properly be described as raucous.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_05: Paul wanted to write something that really did freak people out, and when the Beatles first recorded Helter Skelter in July 1968, they did it in one take, which was almost half an hour long.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_05: They returned to it in September, by all accounts, out of their heads, and produced a shorter version.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_05: At the end of it, Ringo can be heard shrieking, I've got blisters on my fingers! Most British listeners were aware that a helter skelter.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_05: Was a spiral sp a spiral fairground slide, but Charles Manson, who heard the White Album in December 1968, thought the Beatles were warning America of a racial conflict that was coming down fast.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_05: In the scenario that Manson had developed, the Beatles were the four angels mentioned in the New Testament Book of Revelation, who, through their songs, were telling him and his followers to prepare for the coming Holocaust by escaping to the desert.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_05: Manson referred to this future uprising as Helter Skelter, and it was the daubing of these words in blood at the side at the scene of one of the murders that became another vital clue in the subsequent police investigation.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_05: It was because of the song's significance in that Vincent Bugolosi.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_05: Oh no.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_05: The Los Angeles Dick District Attorney who prosecuted at Mance's trial named his best-selling account of the murders Helter Skelter.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: So, it reminds me of you remember when uh uh Paul McCartney did an appearance on um Sound Sound City?
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they did that song with uh Dave Grohl.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and they wrote it on the spot.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_01: That reminds me, yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: It reminds me of that because it's just unbridled fun.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I I yeah.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you need that.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you need to just let loose let loose and not care about what it sounds like.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_08: Heck yeah, I mean.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_01: Um so very cool.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_01: Alright, so I have an album.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_01: Um two things.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure I whether we've done this album before.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: Um I used to put I the albums that we've done in a separate section so I wouldn't pick them again.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_01: But then I reorganized and we've done this album before.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: And number two, you're not gonna guess it.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_05: No, I'm not gonna bother.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: Um so I don't know.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_01: Do you want me to pick a different one?
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_01: Or do you want to just go with what we got?
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_01: So actually, where's your book?
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_01: Do you have your book?
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_01: I do have my book.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_01: Can you look and see if we've done East Mountain South?
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, we've done them.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_05: We have?
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_05: Yes, I remember that.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_05: Well it was a while ago.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_05: It was like around when we first started doing this.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: Um East Mountain South was a duo.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_01: How long ago was it?
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_05: It was it was like first season.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_05: Was it really?
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: Well, then I don't feel too bad.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, East Mountain South was a duo, kind of an acoustic type duo.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_01: Um that they put out one album and then broke up.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_01: And both did like solo projects.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_01: Peter Bradley Adams had more success.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: Kat Maslich Bodie, um, she did like an EP.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_01: She's got an amazing voice.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, listen to this.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_01: Now, not surprisingly, even though they broke up in like I don't know, 2004, something like that.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_01: Um actually.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this album came out in 2003 and they they went on tour and supported it.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_01: And then they broke up.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_01: Um their music from this album still gets placed in TV shows.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_05: Oh, I'm sure, yeah.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: And uh the producer and the the guy that discovered them was um Robbie Robertson of the band.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he produced the album.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_02: All Hartons come again over.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_01: Just gonna play a couple.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: I wish I'd picked a different one now, because I I didn't realize that we'd done this before, but still great stuff.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_01: This is Rain Come Down.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, it was Rain Come Down.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_01: Did you did it just die?
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_05: I'm not sure what just happened.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_05: Did you see that?
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was just went black.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_05: That's weird.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: I might have hit a maybe I hit the wrong button.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_05: He watched the podcast stop recording joke.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_05: Nope, still recording.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_01: I think I I think that's what I did.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_14: Master Jesus wrote around the rainbow round.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_12: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_01: What kind of music would you call this?
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_01: Funky.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_01: Funky roots.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_05: It's kind of pop too, sort of.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah, a little bit.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_05: It's it's it's got a pop sensibility to it.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_05: They're like the civil wars before the civil wars were the Civil Wars.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_05: Good good reference.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_05: I like that.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_14: At the Penguin.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_14: As the F me.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_01: Just great stuff.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_01: Just great stuff.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_01: East Mountain South is the name of the band, and they only had one album.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_01: And that's that's easy to find.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, East Mountain South is the name of the album as well.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: So you won't be sorry if you like that kind of music.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_01: Um just very soothing.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_05: Very Americana.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is definitely Americana.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_01: Um check about.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm gonna put this in a pile so I don't pick it again.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_05: We're gonna put that in the already done this pile.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: Which is like this whole row.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_01: Which is which is this side.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_01: Maybe those two rows.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, that's it.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_01: Episode 199.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_05: One and nine.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_05: That means next week is 200.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_01: 200th episode.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_01: I wonder if uh Buzz Sprout will give us like an award for 200 episodes.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_05: Maybe they'll be like, you're the best podcast we host.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_05: And I'll be like, well, maybe we're the only podcast you host.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_01: That would be the only way that we would be the best.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_05: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_05: You know, I'm just like, I because I you know, I listen to a lot of podcasts, yeah, and I've never heard or seen another one that's hosted by BuzzSprout.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_01: Well, so I'm thinking because some people do it right, but some people uh Buzz Sprout hosts them, but they don't use they you put it on their website.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_01: Like they're real.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're fancy or whatever.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_05: They're the probably the ones that do research.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_05: Do a script, take notes, have things prepared.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_05: What a bunch of freaking losers.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_05: Jeez.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_05: This is raw, baby.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_05: This is like if you just like stumbled down the stairs into our conversation.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_05: That's what this podcast is.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_01: It's actually exactly what it is.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_05: And you're drunk.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_05: And be like, what are these guys?
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_05: These guys sound interesting.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_05: I wonder what they're talking about.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_05: And then you listen for a minute, you're like, these guys are really stupid.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna go back and drink some more.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_01: That's exactly what will happen.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_05: We're the drinking man's podcast.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_01: That's the title.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_01: That's the title of this week.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_01: That's the title of this week's episode.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_01: The Drinking Man's Podcast.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_01: I love how we do that.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_01: We just come up with a title.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_05: Well, uh, like I said, we're not a real podcast because we don't do anything.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_05: We just talk.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_05: We just talk, we hit record, we hit we talk, we stop recording.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_05: Sometimes it stops by itself.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_05: And sometimes it's I think I think the machine I think, you know, it's it's like a ghost in the machine kind of thing.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_05: You know, it's like I think they can't take it anymore?
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_05: Well, it's like, oh my this is the stupidest podcast.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_05: I'm just stopped working right now.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_05: So they can't record anymore.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_05: I think I think it's possessed.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_05: You're probably right.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_05: It's possessed by the uh ghost of Joe Rogan.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_01: I don't think Joe Rogan has anything to do with his podcast.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_05: With this podcast?
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_01: With this podcast, yeah.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_05: Or his podcast.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_01: No, this podcast.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_05: Well, I don't think so.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_05: He's never heard of us yet.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_05: He will.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_05: Someday he's gonna be like cruising, and he'll be like, man, these guys are really good.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_05: They're really funny.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_05: I should have them on my podcast.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_05: And then we'd come on, we'd be like, hey Joe, we love your podcast, even though we've never listened to it.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_01: You've never listened to it?
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_05: I've only heard snippets.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_05: I've never actually listened to it.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_05: That's true.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_05: I've never listened to the side.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_05: I've never actually listened to a whole episode.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_01: Never mind.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_01: Neither mind.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_05: I just can't take all the swearing.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_01: I don't need it.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's I don't think it's necessary.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_05: I don't need it.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah you know, I mean I just I I I don't know.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_01: I mean if you have a potty mouth, it you know, we don't uh can condemn you.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_01: But uh it's just not our thing.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_05: But it's just it's just like you don't have anything better to say.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_05: Especially, you know, putting it out there.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_05: I mean, I I mean I get it.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_05: I mean you're adults, whatever.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_05: You can talk however you want, but I mean, I mean and I I'd rather listen to you know an intelligent podcast where people aren't swearing, right?
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_05: Or ours, where we don't swear, but it's not very intelligent.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_05: But it's just fun.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we're just having a conversation.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_05: We're having a conversation with we're having a conversation with our friends.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_05: You know, that's the way I look at it.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_05: You know, and we have almost 200 episodes to prove it that we have 25 friends.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_01: At least.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_05: At least 25 friends.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_05: Which is pretty amazing.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_01: And friends of their friends.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_05: And they tell two friends.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_05: And they tell two friends.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_05: And they tell two friends.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_05: See, that's how we're gonna grow this podcast.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_01: So anything special for the next episode?
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_01: 200?
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, we'd like to, ideally.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_01: Maybe maybe we will.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_05: I'll do it completely naked.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_01: No, I don't want to do that.

- 1:17:27SPEAKER_05: I wonder how many people would subscribe to it.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_05: Probably just like some like us really perverted losers.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_05: So these guys look awesome.
