- 0:07Speaker 1: Buckle up, resident manager of FT's back. It's Buck show,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Walter Buck. It's great to see you. Great to catch up.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I mean everybody rolled down ready, No, no, we're up, Buck,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I mean, if you want me to be real. AJ
- 0:25Speaker 1: has a first place White Sox team that he watches
- 0:29Speaker 1: in New York City during a Nick's epic run was
- 0:32Speaker 1: out late. Eric Kratz is about to win a high
- 0:34Speaker 1: school championship game, perhaps fingers crossed and Buck, we wanted
- 0:38Speaker 1: to start you off with this one. If you were
- 0:40Speaker 1: managing in that game in Vegas this week, how would
- 0:44Speaker 1: you do things? How would you you know, you know
- 0:47Speaker 1: your role. You got to be psychologist in addition to manager.
- 0:49Speaker 1: How would you talk to someone like Kyle Harrison who's
- 0:52Speaker 1: having a breakout year and in the cy Young conversation
- 0:56Speaker 1: and go, oops, you're starting and you gave a a
- 1:00Speaker 1: bunch because balls were pop ups turning into homers.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Well, first of.
- 1:05Speaker 3: All, there's nothing more important going on right now than
- 1:07Speaker 3: Eric's state championship. Okay, just let that be said. I
- 1:13Speaker 3: remember we won the state championship my senior year. The
- 1:15Speaker 3: smallest public school in the state of Florida went down
- 1:19Speaker 3: to Tampa and beat Marty Lines and the Tampa Catholic team,
- 1:23Speaker 3: and I thought we had won the World Series. We
- 1:25Speaker 3: had two thousand people in our city. We came home
- 1:27Speaker 3: over the hill that night. The whole city turned out.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I remember it like yesterday. I tell you our lineup.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Okay, with that.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Being, wait, Buck, Wait, where'd you go to high school?
- 1:36Speaker 3: Century High School, Northwest Florida on the Florida Alabama line.
- 1:40Speaker 3: My dad was a principal. Try try that sometime.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Young man.
- 1:45Speaker 4: That's why I'm not a principal.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Hey, Jay, you know what.
- 1:48Speaker 3: They call it doubleheader sweep is when the White Sox
- 1:51Speaker 3: win and the Cubs lose.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 1:54Speaker 3: That's what we sall the Mets. If we won and
- 1:58Speaker 3: they lost, it was a doubleheader sweep. Okay, that's right.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Las Vegas it's like Arizona. It's like Colorado. Take it
- 2:07Speaker 3: like a man, young man.
- 2:09Speaker 2: They all know.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I mean, it's not going to cost him a cy
- 2:12Speaker 3: young maybe statistically in today's world looking at everything through
- 2:17Speaker 3: that prism.
- 2:18Speaker 2: You know, we went to Arizona.
- 2:19Speaker 3: We had a lot of people forget they're going to
- 2:21Speaker 3: have a roof over that, and that will change the
- 2:24Speaker 3: dynamics of it a little bit. But when I first
- 2:26Speaker 3: got to the Diamondbacks, we had an interior fence from
- 2:29Speaker 3: left center to right center. And what you see there
- 2:32Speaker 3: now is what was behind the fence and wasn't supposed
- 2:35Speaker 3: to be anything but where it was. But we took in.
- 2:38Speaker 3: It was like three ninety to center. We took the
- 2:39Speaker 3: interior fence out. I said, guys, are y'all are you
- 2:43Speaker 3: watching spring train in Arizona? It's like fourteen to twelve
- 2:46Speaker 3: the ball flies. I mean, it's the second highest elevation
- 2:50Speaker 3: in baseball behind Colorado. Do you guys know who's third?
- 2:54Speaker 4: Atlanta? Atlanta?
- 2:56Speaker 2: Nice? Nice.
- 2:57Speaker 3: There's a catcher and somebody that hits them that know
- 3:00Speaker 3: that a lot of many people know that.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yep.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Fuck.
- 3:04Speaker 5: I gotta ask you because Scott asked about Kyle Harrison
- 3:07Speaker 5: going first cy Young or he's in a sy Young
- 3:10Speaker 5: race show. Hey clearly has made it noted that he
- 3:13Speaker 5: wants to win a sy Young. How do you manage
- 3:16Speaker 5: guys like that? Because you're very much as a manager
- 3:18Speaker 5: your team first. How do you manage those situations? Are
- 3:21Speaker 5: you still able to suffice those players?
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a tough one. You're trying to do what's
- 3:28Speaker 3: best for the team. You're also cutting them a little slack.
- 3:32Speaker 3: They're having a great year. You got to remind them
- 3:34Speaker 3: why they're having a great year. They're not being necessarily overused.
- 3:40Speaker 3: You're no good to us unless you're healthy. And you know,
- 3:43Speaker 3: when something when it comes down towards the end, if
- 3:45Speaker 3: you can do a little something to help them, I think,
- 3:48Speaker 3: you know. I mean we did that with Jeff McNeil.
- 3:50Speaker 3: He didn't ask for it, winning the batting title, but
- 3:52Speaker 3: I had all the mathematical equations of his oh for
- 3:56Speaker 3: this the last two days. And you know, Jeff have
- 3:59Speaker 3: done too much for one hundred and sixty one games
- 4:02Speaker 3: for us not to help him, and he didn't need
- 4:04Speaker 3: to help it, but I just thought it was worth it.
- 4:07Speaker 2: So uh, it's kind of a way to pay back.
- 4:09Speaker 3: A lot of those things come in to play the
- 4:11Speaker 3: last month, but what you do in April and may
- 4:14Speaker 3: sometimes plays a big factor in your physical status in
- 4:18Speaker 3: late season. I look at these relief pictures with so
- 4:21Speaker 3: many appearances, you're going to pay that Piper.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Louck, by the way, you're talking about the ballflyne and
- 4:26Speaker 4: this and that Arizona. I mean, like that time when
- 4:28Speaker 4: we were in Tucson, you would let us use the
- 4:30Speaker 4: indoor cages. It's fine. Look you got what you deserved
- 4:32Speaker 4: in Arizona, so thank you.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it actually worked out real well. I mean I
- 4:36Speaker 3: think it was called our home ballpark.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Okay, that's funny because when then then when the Tucson
- 4:42Speaker 4: Sidewinders came to Salt Lake, we didn't let them use
- 4:45Speaker 4: the inside cages. That changed the Greek text time. That
- 4:47Speaker 4: changed real quick. Book. You told Paul Maller he couldn't
- 4:50Speaker 4: hit inside because he was too good, I think, and
- 4:53Speaker 4: then he went out.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Accused of I's not true. So there's another rumor you've
- 4:58Speaker 3: helped us to spell. I never did that.
- 5:01Speaker 4: You've one hundred Paul Maller, the only Triple A games
- 5:04Speaker 4: you ever played. He got told he couldn't use the
- 5:07Speaker 4: indoor cage because Buck Showalter didn't want the visiting team
- 5:11Speaker 4: using that, and then he went out, I think any
- 5:13Speaker 4: hit for the cycle.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Let me tell you the factors that you don't know.
- 5:17Speaker 3: That was actually Chris Spire, our Triple A manager, and
- 5:20Speaker 3: he did tell me later on that he didn't want
- 5:23Speaker 3: them to hit there. So whatever you think, you're the
- 5:25Speaker 3: manager of the team, But that's another myth about Arizona
- 5:29Speaker 3: that we can just spell here on the show. Paul
- 5:32Speaker 3: Marcher didn't needly help him or hurting him to hit.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Trust me, true, that's true. That's true. All right, Bud,
- 5:38Speaker 4: Let's go to a different game, because that Vegas stuff
- 5:40Speaker 4: is crazy. But let's go to the game last night.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Did you see the Nationals in the Giants game where
- 5:44Speaker 4: they were up nine to one in the eight Have
- 5:46Speaker 4: you ever been a part of something like that? And
- 5:48Speaker 4: what's the manager's reaction when you win, and what's the
- 5:50Speaker 4: manager's reaction as you're watching your team collapse.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I don't think I've been a part of the flip
- 5:58Speaker 3: side of that. But people don't realize when you got
- 6:01Speaker 3: that many players at that level of skill, these are
- 6:04Speaker 3: the best players in the world. And when things start
- 6:06Speaker 3: snowballing good and bad. And that's why people go, gosh,
- 6:11Speaker 3: how do you lose twelve in a row? Well, the
- 6:13Speaker 3: same reason, how do you win twelve in a row?
- 6:16Speaker 3: It's like the inning gets away from you and you
- 6:18Speaker 3: can't stop it. There's just some people who don't normally
- 6:22Speaker 3: do things.
- 6:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:23Speaker 3: I can't believe he walked to guys in a row.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I can't believe that he hung a slider. Guys that
- 6:28Speaker 3: don't normally do things. It's just snowballs, and it's an
- 6:31Speaker 3: ugly feeling in a dugout, But it's a really good
- 6:34Speaker 3: feeling when you know there's just such a great karma
- 6:38Speaker 3: that everybody's waiting for something good to happen and the
- 6:41Speaker 3: other team's all sitting there waiting for something bad to fall.
- 6:44Speaker 3: It's an interesting dynamic.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Which one lasts longer, the bad feeling of blowing a
- 6:50Speaker 5: nine run lead or the great feeling of coming back
- 6:53Speaker 5: from nine runs.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I think Unfortunately they're about the same. You better have
- 6:58Speaker 3: about the same because the next pitch is thrown the
- 7:01Speaker 3: next day. People don't dwell on that. A lot of
- 7:04Speaker 3: fans or media or whatever, they dwell on it, but
- 7:07Speaker 3: you can't afford to. And that's great thing about our
- 7:09Speaker 3: game is it doesn't allow you to stay down too long.
- 7:13Speaker 3: There's an opportunity around the corner, and we're all gonna
- 7:16Speaker 3: seek our level. We live in a sports world. Everybody
- 7:20Speaker 3: wants to know about something before it happens. Uh, we're
- 7:23Speaker 3: all trying to project things. I was always okay with
- 7:26Speaker 3: let's do it in real time.
- 7:29Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 7:31Speaker 5: What if you're managing the Tigers and Mets right now,
- 7:33Speaker 5: how are you.
- 7:35Speaker 3: I'll say this about the Giants and Nationals, I would
- 7:37Speaker 3: just be thinking about our pitching for the next day too.
- 7:40Speaker 3: You get through that game, you don't have time to
- 7:42Speaker 3: think about anything. You're trying to figure out how you're
- 7:43Speaker 3: going to get through the next game. You're hoping you
- 7:45Speaker 3: have an off day. You said, you said the White Sox.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Excuse me, The.
- 7:53Speaker 4: White Sox are on everyone's mind. Buck, White Sox are
- 7:56Speaker 4: on everybody's mind.
- 7:58Speaker 5: I'll leave I'll leave those questions for aj No. I
- 8:01Speaker 5: was asking about the Tigers and Mets, teams with high
- 8:04Speaker 5: expectations at this point in the season, where you manage it?
- 8:09Speaker 5: What is it? What is the difference that a manager
- 8:11Speaker 5: can make to turn this season around?
- 8:14Speaker 3: Well, first of all, you can't compound the problem. You've
- 8:16Speaker 3: got to be a consistent personality. You know, if you're
- 8:19Speaker 3: going like this with your emotions, that's how your team's
- 8:22Speaker 3: going to play too, because they're looking for they're just
- 8:24Speaker 3: looking for something they can count on and depend whether
- 8:27Speaker 3: it be a coaching staff and a manager, and you
- 8:29Speaker 3: know they've kind of they've kind of negated a lot
- 8:32Speaker 3: of the impact that managers have on a team from
- 8:35Speaker 3: that standpoint, especially if they if the players don't feel
- 8:38Speaker 3: like they've got a lot of impact on decisions in
- 8:43Speaker 3: that said organization. I'm sure each manager has a different
- 8:47Speaker 3: degree of input and whatever organization, how it's set up.
- 8:51Speaker 3: But I just think being consistent, because you know, thinking
- 8:55Speaker 3: that you will always play to your level, it'll separate
- 8:58Speaker 3: you baseball too many games and if you're good enough,
- 9:00Speaker 3: it's going to show up. If you're not, that's going
- 9:03Speaker 3: to show up. And I always took a little piece
- 9:05Speaker 3: in that. You know, what makes a really good managers
- 9:07Speaker 3: is really good players. You know, when we got better players,
- 9:11Speaker 3: I got smarter. When we sold off teams at the
- 9:14Speaker 3: trading deadline, I got dumber and dumber and dumber. I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 3: you got to keep that in mind. As a manager.
- 9:19Speaker 3: You don't ever say, well, we don't have very good players.
- 9:22Speaker 3: You never say that, but believe me, back at your hotel,
- 9:25Speaker 3: you're going, you know, we're not very good.
- 9:31Speaker 5: My Doug Bella would do anything for a treat, and
- 9:34Speaker 5: I want to give her a treat that will take
- 9:36Speaker 5: care of her long term.

- 10:28Speaker 4: Fuck you never worked with Ozzie, obviously, because Ozzie would say,
- 10:30Speaker 4: you don't have very good players all the time, so
- 10:33Speaker 4: it was fine.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but it worked for them.
- 10:37Speaker 3: You had enough again where you could take that. You
- 10:39Speaker 3: probably just gone up said yeah, all right, whatever, okay.
- 10:42Speaker 4: That's that's why Ozzie and I still get along, is
- 10:44Speaker 4: because I would laugh at his face, at him, at
- 10:46Speaker 4: him being crazy. So uh but that's fine. Book. We
- 10:50Speaker 4: know you were always positive, and you were always on
- 10:52Speaker 4: top of your game, and you always just tried to
- 10:54Speaker 4: pump everybody. You're the Joe Madden before Joe Madden. That's
- 10:57Speaker 4: always that's the stounded.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You know what you needed aja you needed one way.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Mine could have been your clubby, it could have been
- 11:03Speaker 3: one of your coaches. You need somebody that you can
- 11:05Speaker 3: close the door, drop your guard and let your hair
- 11:08Speaker 3: down and talk with a buddy and a bar, you know,
- 11:11Speaker 3: and just kind of let it out. Feel confident. It's
- 11:14Speaker 3: not going to leave the room, because we all have
- 11:16Speaker 3: those type of ups and downs emotionally. You just can't
- 11:19Speaker 3: wear it outside your door.
- 11:21Speaker 4: That's why I always when we went to certain hotels,
- 11:23Speaker 4: the Fister in the Vanoi, I always wanted the room
- 11:25Speaker 4: to had the ghost in it because I could have
- 11:27Speaker 4: stayed up up and talked Paul all night with them.
- 11:29Speaker 4: But I never found a ghost. Buck so that's that
- 11:31Speaker 4: was the traveling Secretary's fault. They never gave me the
- 11:33Speaker 4: I know we were.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Headed the other way when they gave me a ghost
- 11:37Speaker 3: room instead of the other room. How about the Milwaukee
- 11:40Speaker 3: the Fister. You've been in the fester right many times.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Let me tell you.
- 11:45Speaker 3: I go, I put up my scouting report out there,
- 11:47Speaker 3: No big deal. I go back, go to sleep. Next day,
- 11:50Speaker 3: I wake up and scouting reports all over the table.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Conditioner.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I had a no. No, I had a conversation
- 11:58Speaker 3: with the ghost. I just said, hey, listen, deal, you
- 12:00Speaker 3: were here before I I just leave me alone. I'll
- 12:02Speaker 3: leave you alone. That will be all right. And how
- 12:04Speaker 3: would you pitch?
- 12:06Speaker 4: You know, the brewers exactly see you figuring out. But
- 12:10Speaker 4: speaking of how many players, I feel like when I've
- 12:13Speaker 4: talked to guys that have played for you, you always
- 12:14Speaker 4: tried to explain little nuances and in little rules of
- 12:17Speaker 4: the game. How many players that you had do you
- 12:20Speaker 4: think know the actual rules of the game, meaning base
- 12:23Speaker 4: running you can do this, or just little nuances in
- 12:27Speaker 4: the game. I'm not talking the big rules three strikes
- 12:29Speaker 4: you're out, but just little nuances that a lot of
- 12:31Speaker 4: guys don't seem to know.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Well, you know, I don't.
- 12:35Speaker 3: I always say it's not their fault, you know, with
- 12:37Speaker 3: travel ball and year round baseball, and you know, getting
- 12:41Speaker 3: a championship ring for winning an eight and under league.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I just I think.
- 12:49Speaker 3: I always took time in spring training and we talked
- 12:51Speaker 3: about a rule a day, maybe sometimes to two, and
- 12:55Speaker 3: we had banner back and forth. And it was never
- 12:57Speaker 3: meant to embarrass anybody, you know. I let them know
- 13:00Speaker 3: some things I'm not sure about, and it's great to
- 13:03Speaker 3: know something that they don't know, you know, when you're
- 13:05Speaker 3: dealing with umpires, you know, like the base pack, understanding
- 13:08Speaker 3: the lane down the first baseline, by the way, we
- 13:10Speaker 3: should put that bag over there, like college baseball has.
- 13:13Speaker 3: That's a great idea understanding just you know, tag rules
- 13:17Speaker 3: and all the different things. It gives a team real
- 13:21Speaker 3: confidence to know that you know most of the important rules.
- 13:25Speaker 3: There's always little nuances of them, but you also get
- 13:28Speaker 3: to know a look in an umpire's eyes when he's
- 13:32Speaker 3: not sure, when you know he's not sure about the rule,
- 13:35Speaker 3: and you try not to embarrass him. Most of them
- 13:37Speaker 3: are very good with it.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Have you been in a situation where you didn't know
- 13:41Speaker 5: the rule and you were told by the umpire and
- 13:45Speaker 5: then you went back and you were like, oh.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 13:50Speaker 5: No, I just want I just want people to know that,
- 13:55Speaker 5: because that's what I've heard about you, that you knew
- 13:57Speaker 5: all the rules and you haven't that you have been
- 14:00Speaker 5: in that situation.
- 14:01Speaker 3: No, you can always trick you know, it's you can
- 14:04Speaker 3: always trick the dummy, so to speak. I can't say
- 14:06Speaker 3: I know them all, but there's always a little you know,
- 14:09Speaker 3: did you know that? And you know, guys like Max Schurzer,
- 14:12Speaker 3: I was always not surprised, but how much they loved
- 14:16Speaker 3: talking about that stuff. They loved gaining information. They're at
- 14:20Speaker 3: such a thirst for knowledge that other people may not have,
- 14:23Speaker 3: and it gives a team a lot of confidence to
- 14:25Speaker 3: feel like they've got a little edge on different things
- 14:28Speaker 3: about the infield fly rule and about you know, there's
- 14:32Speaker 3: just so many little small rules that sometime they need
- 14:36Speaker 3: to simplify, but you do need to take advantage of
- 14:38Speaker 3: them if you can.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Fuck you know, half the players don't even know what
- 14:41Speaker 4: the infield fly roll is to this day. Come on,
- 14:43Speaker 4: you've watched college games, you've watched high school games. That
- 14:46Speaker 4: ball goes up and it hits the ground, pure panic
- 14:49Speaker 4: sets in on all the guys on the basis. So
- 14:51Speaker 4: I mean, it's not it's uncommon.
- 14:55Speaker 3: If I took ten guys and said, okay, two guys
- 14:57Speaker 3: standing on third base at the same time, who's out
- 15:00Speaker 3: and who's not?
- 15:00Speaker 2: And who do you tag? And who do you not tag?
- 15:02Speaker 2: How me let me think you good answered the question?
- 15:05Speaker 4: How you took maybe four out of ten would get
- 15:07Speaker 4: it right? Yep.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I guarantee you catchers know a lot more rules than
- 15:11Speaker 2: other people. They had to we have to do it.
- 15:14Speaker 2: How do you think you would have done? Aj? How
- 15:16Speaker 2: do you how do you think you would have done
- 15:18Speaker 2: with the ABS? You think you had been good at it?
- 15:20Speaker 4: I would have got I would have got mad a
- 15:21Speaker 4: lot because I would have just been like, this is stupid.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Or we could have been in Vegas and they ran.
- 15:26Speaker 4: They didn't work. Buck, it didn't work. So they're the
- 15:28Speaker 4: umpires like, hey, I call it rowing. No more guys,
- 15:30Speaker 4: no more top of the head. I don't know. I
- 15:33Speaker 4: think it would have been It would have been a
- 15:35Speaker 4: learning process. But at least, you know what. The only
- 15:37Speaker 4: thing I'll say about I love the ABS. I think
- 15:39Speaker 4: it's awesome at least you get a consistence, you get
- 15:42Speaker 4: a consistent strike zone, right. I mean, you know Buck,
- 15:44Speaker 4: when you played and when you were managing early. You know,
- 15:47Speaker 4: back when Babe Ruth was playing, the dumpires changed their
- 15:50Speaker 4: strike zones, right. And then when I kind of got there,
- 15:52Speaker 4: we got a little tighter with the quest tech and
- 15:54Speaker 4: the umpires were getting the discs after the game where
- 15:57Speaker 4: they'd watch them. But you know, Babe Ruth, they wouldn't
- 15:59Speaker 4: call strikes some and then when you were hitting, the
- 16:01Speaker 4: strike zone got huge because they're like, he can't hit.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah. I talked to Babe about that one time.
- 16:06Speaker 3: I asked him what he thought about it, and he said, hey,
- 16:09Speaker 3: be Babe Ruth, and then you get those pitches. But yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 3: I don't. I wish I'd always had it. I can
- 16:17Speaker 3: remember games there were such a vindictedness. They used to
- 16:21Speaker 3: call ahead to the next crew. You'd go from New
- 16:23Speaker 3: York to Seattle and Land and go out on the
- 16:26Speaker 3: field and the umpire is talking about the last.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Series because he talked to the crew chief. So it continued.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Oh, especially they tried me as a rookie manager when
- 16:35Speaker 3: I first went to the National League with Arizona. Oh,
- 16:38Speaker 3: the first year. Oh man, they were calling us American
- 16:42Speaker 3: League Harry's and they stuck it to us the first year,
- 16:46Speaker 3: so you had to take it. If you took it properly,
- 16:49Speaker 3: you got you got the benefit of the doubt the
- 16:50Speaker 3: next year.
- 16:52Speaker 5: Wait, what if you complained to your agent or complained
- 16:55Speaker 5: to your front and then they and then they would
- 16:56Speaker 5: write a letter.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Isn't that how it works?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Oh?
- 17:00Speaker 3: That umpire was said, you wrote a letter. Your agent
- 17:03Speaker 3: wrote a letter. Really well, ask him what kind of
- 17:05Speaker 3: strikes on you've got this game?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Man?
- 17:08Speaker 3: It was, I mean balls in the other batter's box.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Brady guys back and they were hitting for a higher
- 17:16Speaker 3: average back then.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I don't get it.
- 17:19Speaker 3: What do you think would happen if the team's decided, Okay,
- 17:22Speaker 3: we're going complete the other way. The only thing we're
- 17:24Speaker 3: going after We are gonna wait contact hitters and defenders.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Everybon in the field's got to be less than hunter
- 17:33Speaker 3: strikeouts and have to be a plus defender. What kind
- 17:35Speaker 3: of team you think you would put together it's a
- 17:36Speaker 3: good bat or what do you think?
- 17:38Speaker 5: Where the Tampa Bay raise at.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Exactly?
- 17:42Speaker 5: And everybody's saying they're changing the game, They're not changing
- 17:46Speaker 5: the game. They're just allowing the guys to be successful
- 17:49Speaker 5: at the things that they do. But even on this show,
- 17:51Speaker 5: we asked, I asked Ken Roseal the other day, they're
- 17:54Speaker 5: a top heavy lineup.
- 17:55Speaker 4: They're a top heavy lineup.
- 17:57Speaker 2: You know this team?
- 17:58Speaker 5: Can this team have success in the playoffs? Well, you know,
- 18:01Speaker 5: only one way to find out. They're in the playoffs
- 18:04Speaker 5: right now. If it started today.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I think the White Socks put it in play pretty good,
- 18:09Speaker 2: don't they guys? No, I don't know.
- 18:11Speaker 4: No, No, the swing, No, they try, they try, buck,
- 18:14Speaker 4: but they can't bun. If you watch Will Available his
- 18:16Speaker 4: press conference the other night, he's like, yeah, we pretty
- 18:18Speaker 4: much suck it, Bunny, I don't know why. And then
- 18:20Speaker 4: last night he went out and tried to bun again
- 18:22Speaker 4: and they sucked again.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Well, you'd like to think if we're going to continue
- 18:25Speaker 3: to ask to do this and you don't want to
- 18:27Speaker 3: embarrass yourself and fail, you might want to figure out
- 18:29Speaker 3: how to do it. But there's two ways to look
- 18:32Speaker 3: at that. Or do we just not let them do it?
- 18:34Speaker 3: But they're not good once you learn how to do it.
- 18:37Speaker 3: You were a good bunner.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Oh, I love Bunny, and you're a good hitter too,
- 18:43Speaker 5: So there's that's too always happier learned to bun.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Then when Buck Showalter's team would put the third basement
- 18:50Speaker 4: back with two outs and the run around there, and
- 18:52Speaker 4: I could just go whoop and get the free RBI.
- 18:54Speaker 4: And then I'd see Buck put his little hand in
- 18:56Speaker 4: his pocket. Right here, there's a little two finger pocket,
- 18:58Speaker 4: and you have to walk out to the mountain. He'd
- 18:59Speaker 4: look give you the look out of the side of
- 19:01Speaker 4: his eyes. He's mooddling out there. That's the best.
- 19:04Speaker 3: You must have spent a lot of time noticing things
- 19:06Speaker 3: about me, because you seem to know a lot of
- 19:08Speaker 3: things that aren't necessarily true. But are you infatuated with me?
- 19:11Speaker 2: Aj?
- 19:11Speaker 4: I am Buck. You know what, I'm very observing. You
- 19:14Speaker 4: should ask You should ask people about me. I observe
- 19:16Speaker 4: a lot of things, and I also have a mind
- 19:18Speaker 4: like an elephant, where I just remember stupid stuff all
- 19:21Speaker 4: the time, like the most random stuff I remember. So
- 19:24Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, that's fine, But I told you I
- 19:26Speaker 4: gave you props the one time you did a play,
- 19:28Speaker 4: and I still wish more people would do it. The
- 19:31Speaker 4: old bunt and run where the runner steals you have
- 19:34Speaker 4: the guy bunnet to the third and the guy just
- 19:35Speaker 4: keeps going. And it's a race the third with the
- 19:38Speaker 4: catcher in the in the in the in the runner,
- 19:40Speaker 4: and the catcher loses every time because the first baseman
- 19:42Speaker 4: can't hit a guy in the run.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Yeah, that stuff's been handed down from generation. I mean
- 19:47Speaker 3: you learned Billy Martin used to talk about that play.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I tell you to play.
- 19:50Speaker 3: The indefensible play in baseball is first and third and
- 19:55Speaker 3: then the old National League with where you bun the
- 20:00Speaker 3: ball to the third basement and if he throws the
- 20:02Speaker 3: ball to second or first, a runner at third scores.
- 20:06Speaker 3: And if he doesn't have anybody to throw the ball to,
- 20:09Speaker 3: if he attacks the runner at third, then all the
- 20:12Speaker 3: runners are safe. And Matt Williams and I spend a
- 20:15Speaker 3: lot of time trying to defend that play. It was
- 20:17Speaker 3: a big play in the National League. How would you
- 20:19Speaker 3: defend it? I want to hear this first and third,
- 20:21Speaker 3: less than two outs, pitcher bunning bumps the ball to
- 20:24Speaker 3: the third basemin where the runner just walks down with
- 20:26Speaker 3: a third basement.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Support for today's episode comes from Square and they've got
- 20:32Speaker 1: big news. During Squar's Biannual Releases event, they launched a
- 20:35Speaker 1: wave of innovative new tools to help local businesses run faster, smarter,
- 20:39Speaker 1: and more profitably. Square is awesome. Around Orlando, where AJ
- 20:43Speaker 1: and I live, we go to the farmers' markets around town.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I go to the one near Lake Iola. It's awesome.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I use Square to pay with my phone. I get
- 20:50Speaker 1: the receipt right away. It's great.
- 20:52Speaker 4: And so many businesses, not just small businesses, uses. So
- 20:54Speaker 4: many restaurants and businesses I walk into, not only in Orlando,
- 20:57Speaker 4: but all over the country, have the and you just
- 21:01Speaker 4: use your credit card, pops out or receipt emails it
- 21:04Speaker 4: right to you. It's so fast, it's so efficient, it's
- 21:06Speaker 4: so hassle free. It's one of the great things that

- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:30Speaker 5: To have a good third basement, you have to have
- 21:32Speaker 5: a good third Basementho's not afraid to be able to
- 21:34Speaker 5: read it with the runner.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Yeah, but the runners behind you. If you turn towards them,
- 21:39Speaker 3: he just goes back to third and ebuddy's safe.
- 21:42Speaker 5: You don't think the third baseman can feel the bunt
- 21:46Speaker 5: and look them back.
- 21:48Speaker 3: No, because he's behind you. You're not putting any fear
- 21:51Speaker 3: in him. He knows you can't tag Hi because he's
- 21:52Speaker 3: behind you. But as soon as you throw the ball
- 21:55Speaker 3: from almost half third of the way down, you just
- 21:58Speaker 3: walk across the plate. Matt Williams was it. He finally
- 22:01Speaker 3: caught the Giants with it. Dusty used to do it.
- 22:04Speaker 3: He came up, barely, looked at the guy. We gave
- 22:06Speaker 3: him a token look and then arm fake the first
- 22:08Speaker 3: base and then it gave him time to get behind
- 22:11Speaker 3: the runner and.
- 22:12Speaker 2: For the shortstop to get over to third. Brilliant.
- 22:14Speaker 3: You know we kept We talked and talked and talk
- 22:16Speaker 3: about it in Matshley. What if I arm fake the
- 22:18Speaker 3: first try it and we caught? I think it was
- 22:21Speaker 3: hard Bnard, I.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Think it was.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 5: You need an aggressive runner on third that's willing to get,
- 22:28Speaker 5: you know, get going as soon as the arm fake happens,
- 22:30Speaker 5: but you should be an arm fake and still be
- 22:32Speaker 5: able to get the guy first if you turn around.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I mean, I think I think we call it the
- 22:38Speaker 2: karate kid play. Remember the indefensible move or whatever it was.
- 22:42Speaker 5: No, I hear you, I hear you, all right. An
- 22:43Speaker 5: indefensible picture I got to ask you about is Terrek
- 22:46Speaker 5: scouble Terrek Scoubel's on his way back. You have the
- 22:50Speaker 5: best pitcher in the world, one of the top two
- 22:53Speaker 5: best pictures in the world, coming back from an injury
- 22:56Speaker 5: that you're like, Okay, probably wasn't that bad. You're the
- 22:59Speaker 5: manager of a team that's many games under five hundred.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Do you treat him any different? Knowing that either he
- 23:07Speaker 5: has to be perfect and you guys get slowly back
- 23:09Speaker 5: in the race, or he is a trade chip that
- 23:12Speaker 5: will possibly change the trajectory of the next few years
- 23:17Speaker 5: of your organization.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I think that's why it's important relationship between the manager
- 23:21Speaker 3: and the front office or making a decisions. They let
- 23:23Speaker 3: you know exactly it used to be years ago. You
- 23:26Speaker 3: never want to go on the last end of a
- 23:29Speaker 3: contract manager and a team because he wasn't always doing
- 23:33Speaker 3: things for the long game, you know, making sure that
- 23:36Speaker 3: guys were going to be healthy. If you knew that
- 23:38Speaker 3: scoopl is going to be back with you might look
- 23:39Speaker 3: at him a little differently. I think you always try
- 23:43Speaker 3: to do what's best for your picture. You know, what
- 23:45Speaker 3: are you going to do? Hey, we're we're not going
- 23:47Speaker 3: to trade him. Let's try to finish above five hundred
- 23:50Speaker 3: so that I can keep my job. Now that's a
- 23:53Speaker 3: bad way to look at it, but there's three scenarios there.
- 23:56Speaker 3: You're going to trade him, you're going to keep him,
- 23:58Speaker 3: and you make sure that you're manager knows that he's
- 24:00Speaker 3: going to be there for a long time. I mean,
- 24:02Speaker 3: aj Hinch is a pretty established guy, but he's pretty
- 24:05Speaker 3: special before you start entertaining thoughts of moving him. That's
- 24:10Speaker 3: you're always looking for that guy, and you've got him,
- 24:13Speaker 3: and I know you can get a lot back, But
- 24:15Speaker 3: who's making the decisions on what is fair to get
- 24:19Speaker 3: back for him? I mean, the world's full of those
- 24:22Speaker 3: four and five for ones that end up with a
- 24:24Speaker 3: backup catcher, a utility infielder and a longer lever and
- 24:28Speaker 3: a fourth outfielder. You don't have impactful guys. Very seldom
- 24:31Speaker 3: do you get them.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Buck Only if you're the White Sox. You trade cair crocheted,
- 24:36Speaker 4: you get four impact guys back just saying just Sam Buck.
- 24:39Speaker 4: But you know, back to the White Sox.
- 24:42Speaker 2: That's why I just said, it depends on who's picking
- 24:43Speaker 2: the players.
- 24:45Speaker 4: All right, So we have I have two more questions
- 24:47Speaker 4: for you. One, I got to ask about one of
- 24:48Speaker 4: your old teams, man, you had a lot of old teams.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Buck.
- 24:51Speaker 4: But since we're showing you an Orioles uniform, Samuel Bassaio
- 24:55Speaker 4: and and I'll be over there kind of going back
- 24:57Speaker 4: and forth about Bysio not one to play when he's
- 25:00Speaker 4: heard beside us saying I'm playing through stuff. How do
- 25:02Speaker 4: you handle this with the young guy as a manager.
- 25:05Speaker 2: That's a good question. It's you know, I try not
- 25:09Speaker 2: to blame the players because we kind of create some
- 25:12Speaker 2: of this. You know. It's like going to the doctor.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Is it hurt and own? Is it hurt? Own? Does
- 25:16Speaker 2: it hurt? There is a hurt.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Well after a while you go, well, I guess I'm
- 25:19Speaker 3: supposed to hurt. I mean, this is not a normal
- 25:22Speaker 3: thing to do to your body. It's like, you got
- 25:24Speaker 3: to know the difference between being hurt and being injured.
- 25:26Speaker 3: But everybody's a little different with their makeup, and but
- 25:29Speaker 3: if you look at where they're coming from in minor leagues,
- 25:32Speaker 3: especially when they reach prospect status, it's like, we feel
- 25:36Speaker 3: like they've got to feel perfect to play and those days.
- 25:39Speaker 3: The last time you felt one hundred percent, you two guys,
- 25:42Speaker 3: was when you got out of the car in spring training.
- 25:44Speaker 3: And it's just different degrees of what percent you have
- 25:47Speaker 3: to offer. It's a very taxing thing. But someone's got
- 25:51Speaker 3: to help teach that. But you have to be careful
- 25:53Speaker 3: as a manager because there might be you know, you
- 25:55Speaker 3: always got to give the player credit that he's being
- 25:57Speaker 3: completely frank and honest with you, But a lot of
- 25:59Speaker 3: time it's a it's a process or a feeling that
- 26:03Speaker 3: he's acquired through how you've handled him. How's that with
- 26:07Speaker 3: a nice way to say it.
- 26:09Speaker 4: We can talk about the minor leagues and the problems
- 26:11Speaker 4: they have in the minor leagues for for hours. We
- 26:13Speaker 4: don't have time for that today, Buck, because I'm sure
- 26:15Speaker 4: you have to get out and go to Early Bird
- 26:18Speaker 4: Special wherever you are these days for dinner.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Soj's an awful mean to me today, you know that.
- 26:25Speaker 4: I know, just wait, just wait till my next question.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Then you're really gonna want to.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Go, I'll just wait till I get off the air.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Look, I guess I do want to know. Did you
- 26:36Speaker 4: happen to see your favorite team play this past weekend?
- 26:39Speaker 2: The Savannah Bananas?
- 26:41Speaker 4: No, No, the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Do you mean when they won the regional or when
- 26:48Speaker 2: they lost the super regional?
- 26:49Speaker 4: When they lost the super Regional and gave up about
- 26:52Speaker 4: fifteen homers and hit fifteen overs? That was and then
- 26:55Speaker 4: the guy got kicked out for Georgia for talking trash
- 26:59Speaker 4: to their duck.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Let's talk about that, okay, number one? The other team
- 27:03Speaker 3: gave up a lot of home runs too. They just
- 27:05Speaker 3: gave up one left home run. I think that was
- 27:08Speaker 3: not a pitching proless. First of all, the ballpark in
- 27:11Speaker 3: Georgia was small. You notice how they've made all that.
- 27:14Speaker 3: The ballpark at Mississippi State. They brought the fences in.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I mean these things, these places are small. Their ball
- 27:19Speaker 3: is harder, tighter wound. It's tough to be a picture.
- 27:23Speaker 3: And how about scouts trying to project those guys? What
- 27:26Speaker 3: were you guys take on the Georgia A guy that
- 27:29Speaker 3: got suspended and ejected.
- 27:30Speaker 4: I want to hear this, Listen, I don't have a
- 27:33Speaker 4: problem with it. Everyone does this, the guy. Everyone does
- 27:37Speaker 4: this right book. This is the way you mentioned about
- 27:39Speaker 4: travel balling about this, and that everybody does this all
- 27:42Speaker 4: the time. It's not a big deal when you look
- 27:44Speaker 4: at the other dugout like he did, and he said
- 27:46Speaker 4: he was looking at his parents, which okay, fine, maybe
- 27:49Speaker 4: he was, maybe he wasn't. But when you directly look
- 27:51Speaker 4: at the other dugout. But if you're celebrating with your
- 27:53Speaker 4: own team and your doug out. I used to say
- 27:55Speaker 4: this all the time, even back when everything, any emotion
- 27:58Speaker 4: was frowned upon it all. If you hit a walk
- 28:02Speaker 4: off homer and I'm catching, you can do whatever you
- 28:04Speaker 4: want because the game's over. Like if you want to
- 28:07Speaker 4: throw a fiesta and run around and do all kinds
- 28:09Speaker 4: of stuff, shoot the confetti. Fine, now, if you do
- 28:11Speaker 4: that and you're down ten to nothing or you're winning
- 28:14Speaker 4: ten to nothing, then and we're gonna have a little
- 28:15Speaker 4: different conversation. But if you hit a walkoff homer, the
- 28:18Speaker 4: game's over. I'm trying to get the heck off the
- 28:20Speaker 4: field anyways, I'm not really paying attention to what you
- 28:23Speaker 4: do at that point. But as long as you do
- 28:24Speaker 4: with your own team. I don't really have a problem
- 28:26Speaker 4: with it because pitchers, when they punched you out, they'd
- 28:29Speaker 4: fist bump you, and you know, then if I got
- 28:31Speaker 4: a hit, I'd flip my beat. So it was kind
- 28:32Speaker 4: of tit for tat.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that was not a walk off, but I agree
- 28:37Speaker 2: with most of it.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Eric, What do you think I coach high school baseball?
- 28:42Speaker 5: I lean towards the You respect the people you play against,
- 28:46Speaker 5: and you cheer for your team. Don't make stupid noises
- 28:49Speaker 5: when the other team's pitching. Don't be better than them.
- 28:52Speaker 5: I expect my players to be better than them, and
- 28:55Speaker 5: the emotions get there, so when we get off the
- 28:57Speaker 5: rails a little bit, it's my job to bring them back.
- 29:00Speaker 5: So displays like that in college baseball, in my opinion,
- 29:05Speaker 5: it's a head coach's fault.
- 29:07Speaker 3: You know what I look at, I sometimes wonder it
- 29:10Speaker 3: just seems like sometimes we've lost a sense of sportsmanship,
- 29:14Speaker 3: of respecting our opponents. Maybe that's going away, that's okay.
- 29:17Speaker 3: But I tell you what I started doing the last
- 29:19Speaker 3: five or six years I managed. I would look when
- 29:21Speaker 3: someone would do something on the field that normally would
- 29:23Speaker 3: bring a reaction when I played, I looked down the
- 29:26Speaker 3: dugout and if nobody cares and nobody says anything, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 3: I don't want to go, hey, guys, you're supposed to
- 29:32Speaker 3: be mad at that. You don't you don't stick them
- 29:35Speaker 3: with the way you were brought up in the game
- 29:36Speaker 3: to a point, but I did want to see some
- 29:39Speaker 3: sportsmanship and just you know, I have respect for your
- 29:42Speaker 3: opponent as long as they're deserving of that respect. Sometimes
- 29:46Speaker 3: they're not because of something that happens. Like I've said
- 29:48Speaker 3: many times, there's nothing worse than being on the field
- 29:51Speaker 3: and whether it's a fight or a brawl or a
- 29:54Speaker 3: push shove thing, and that you're fighting for an unjust cause.
- 29:58Speaker 3: And I used to tell I told Manny Micheada s Manny,
- 30:00Speaker 3: we're gonna be behind you all the time, but you've
- 30:03Speaker 3: got to put us out there for a just cause.
- 30:05Speaker 3: We can't be out there because you or somebody one
- 30:08Speaker 3: of our teammate, your teammates have done something stupid that's
- 30:11Speaker 3: uncompliment And I tell you, you get somebody hurt and
- 30:13Speaker 3: unjust cause you're not happy.
- 30:15Speaker 2: As a manager.
- 30:16Speaker 3: So I don't know, Uh, the SEC has a rule
- 30:20Speaker 3: and he didn't follow it and he got suspended, So
- 30:23Speaker 3: I don't blame the umpires. Some people think it was
- 30:26Speaker 3: over the top, some people don't. But he's a good player.
- 30:29Speaker 3: He's going to get drafted, probably in the first five rounds.
- 30:34Speaker 1: The key copy out there is you don't know what's
- 30:36Speaker 1: going on, right if someone said something to you, So
- 30:39Speaker 1: now we're just eliminating at any kind of interaction. It's
- 30:42Speaker 1: not like they're punching each other. You can't make any
- 30:44Speaker 1: interaction ever towards someone.
- 30:47Speaker 2: No. Never.
- 30:48Speaker 4: That one was a little tough though, because as he
- 30:50Speaker 4: was running around the bases, every single player was saying something,
- 30:54Speaker 4: So there was obviously something going wrong, something going on,
- 30:57Speaker 4: because I mean literally, first Baseman said something, Say Basement
- 31:00Speaker 4: said something, short Stuff said something, Third Basement said something.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Every single guy on the other team said something to him. So, hey, whatever, Buck,
- 31:06Speaker 4: But you also know this when you were managing, I
- 31:10Speaker 4: always said this. I always wish people would do this
- 31:12Speaker 4: right if I if someone on my team did something stupid, right,
- 31:16Speaker 4: they always threw at me. You threw at me many times. Fine,
- 31:18Speaker 4: I don't care, I would wear it right. But when
- 31:21Speaker 4: someone on the someone like I think it was Delman
- 31:24Speaker 4: Young did the best. He got hit when he was
- 31:26Speaker 4: at the Twins. He wasn't mad at the Tigers. He
- 31:29Speaker 4: was mad at the guy on his own team that
- 31:30Speaker 4: did the dumb thing, and he went he yelled at
- 31:32Speaker 4: his own team. Right if I got hit for someone
- 31:35Speaker 4: that did some on my team, I'm like, look, I
- 31:37Speaker 4: do enough dumb stuff. Let me do my own dumb
- 31:39Speaker 4: stuff so I can get hit. Don't you do it.
- 31:41Speaker 4: I'll take it for you, but let me do my
- 31:43Speaker 4: own dumb shit to get hit. Oh sorry, I.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Used to think about it.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Why didn't okay, say you got a pitcher and a
- 31:50Speaker 3: and a hitter that are mad at each other and
- 31:53Speaker 3: supposedly want to fight. Everybody should stand off the side.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Let those two guys fight. Guys, just two guys stay
- 32:01Speaker 3: in the bullpen. You can get up next to the fence. Uh,
- 32:04Speaker 3: But two guys go ahead, and y'all you'll find out
- 32:07Speaker 3: how much you want to fight. It's like my dad,
- 32:09Speaker 3: and when guys would fight in school, he'd put them
- 32:10Speaker 3: in a in the office, give him each boxing gloves,
- 32:13Speaker 3: so you guys go ahead and fight, and after about
- 32:15Speaker 3: two minutes they didn't want to fight anymore.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Exactly. That's how most baseball dust ups. Sorry, it's not hockey.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Most of the time. It's I'm going out there.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Hold me back. We can show we'll call. Yeah.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Hey, you know I tell our guys, I said, listen,
- 32:31Speaker 3: if you want him, go getting If you don't, just
- 32:34Speaker 3: go to first place, because I don't want you to
- 32:36Speaker 3: pull everybody else into it because you did something stupid.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yep, well, Buck, this was fantastic on behalf of my
- 32:44Speaker 1: friends Eric and feisty AJ. We thank you for joining
- 32:46Speaker 1: us and wish that you still guess.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys send me all the mean things that
- 32:51Speaker 3: AJ says after we get off. Okay done.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Our team is working on it. We're going to make
- 32:57Speaker 1: a highlight reel of it and we'll show it tomorrow.
- 32:59Speaker 4: And also meaning sometimes the truth hurts, Buck, the truth
- 33:03Speaker 4: hurts sometimes.
- 33:04Speaker 2: If you want to go there, we can expose it.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Oh, next time, take two. So anyway, we got to run.
- 33:13Speaker 1: We got Tyler Kinley waiting for us.
- 33:15Speaker 2: We're gonna talk to them for you, man, God bless
- 33:17Speaker 2: you go. I'll tell you the best. Thank you having
- 33:20Speaker 2: you Crouch.
- 33:23Speaker 4: You know, I travel all the time and I'm always
- 33:25Speaker 4: looking for possible tickets to go see events.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Concerts, MLB games. When I do, I always find Seakeek. Yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 5: I'm not traveling so pretty much. I'm looking for the
- 33:35Speaker 5: games all in my area. I'm gonna look for an
- 33:37Speaker 5: Orioles game. I'm gonna look for the Phillies game, the
- 33:40Speaker 5: Mets game, the Yankees game. But you know what else
- 33:43Speaker 5: is coming up? The All Star Game. Seeks got me.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Hey, you're gonna need them tickets to the All Star Game.

- 34:23Speaker 1: Okay, let's talk Mets or Nicks or both with Mark
- 34:26Speaker 1: Luino aka Draftneck Mark, one of the star hosts of
- 34:30Speaker 1: Mets Up. Mark, good to see you, man. We do
- 34:34Speaker 1: need to start with the Mets. We eventually can get
- 34:36Speaker 1: to happier times, but let's start on the depressing side
- 34:38Speaker 1: of things, as they're making the Saint Louis Cardinals right
- 34:41Speaker 1: now look like the best team in baseball. They won
- 34:42Speaker 1: five games in a row and they're spanking. I'm talking
- 34:44Speaker 1: about Saint Louis.
- 34:45Speaker 2: What's up? Where are we at right now?
- 34:47Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 34:47Speaker 6: I feel like it's the same thing for like the
- 34:49Speaker 6: last month, where the Mets will play decent baseball and
- 34:52Speaker 6: then they'll come home and they'll play bad baseball. Just
- 34:55Speaker 6: one of the most inconsistent Mets teams out I've seen
- 34:57Speaker 6: in a long time.
- 34:58Speaker 7: And that says a lot, because the Mets.
- 34:59Speaker 6: Are not not good historically, especially in my lifetime. But
- 35:02Speaker 6: this team just can't seem to get it going. And
- 35:05Speaker 6: like you said, they have this amazing ability to make
- 35:07Speaker 6: these other teams look like the best teams in baseball
- 35:10Speaker 6: on a nightly basis, and they're doing it again with
- 35:12Speaker 6: the Cardinals. The Cardinals are about to sweep us at home,
- 35:14Speaker 6: which is frankly unacceptable.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Mark, what's wrong? I mean What's what's the biggest flaw
- 35:22Speaker 4: you see on this Mets team? Is it the pitching?
- 35:25Speaker 4: Because we all because we came into thinking like they
- 35:27Speaker 4: don't have enough pitching, right, but then they go get
- 35:29Speaker 4: Freddy Perrault and he struggled. But the offense hasn't been great.
- 35:32Speaker 4: They've tried calling up some young guys. You know, the
- 35:34Speaker 4: injuries obviously, but what do you think is the bigger
- 35:37Speaker 4: problem that the Mets have to try to make up for.
- 35:40Speaker 6: I mean, it's crazy to say, but they have just
- 35:42Speaker 6: so many problems. Their biggest problem is that they don't
- 35:44Speaker 6: just have one problem. Like you look at the offense
- 35:46Speaker 6: and while Bobashett hit a home run today, Bobashett having
- 35:49Speaker 6: a six to eleven ops on June eleventh is pretty unacceptable.
- 35:53Speaker 6: Marcus Simeon coming in being trained for Brandon Nimo, I
- 35:55Speaker 6: know Nimo struggled a little bit, but Marcus Simons still
- 35:58Speaker 6: not really playing the baseball we expect from him. Wan
- 36:01Speaker 6: Soto has been great, but when he's not playing hero ball,
- 36:03Speaker 6: the Mets do have an issue scoring runs at times,
- 36:06Speaker 6: which is super frustrating. Like shout out Carson Bench, He's
- 36:09Speaker 6: been incredible over the last month and a half. But
- 36:11Speaker 6: really they need other guys on this offense to step up,
- 36:14Speaker 6: and they need some health to come back. Like the
- 36:16Speaker 6: fact that we have no idea when Jorge Polanco is
- 36:19Speaker 6: ever gonna play for the New York Mets again is terrifying.
- 36:21Speaker 6: Luis Robert same thing. We have no idea when he's
- 36:23Speaker 6: gonna play for the Mets. Francisco Lindor might come back
- 36:26Speaker 6: by the end of the month, but it's gonna be
- 36:28Speaker 6: too late at that point. Is it gonna be able
- 36:30Speaker 6: to salvage the season, We don't know. And then you
- 36:32Speaker 6: go to the pitching side. Clay Holmes broke his broke
- 36:35Speaker 6: a bone in his leg. He's gonna be out for
- 36:36Speaker 6: some time. Code I Sang has been injured. You can't
- 36:39Speaker 6: really rely on this twenty six man roster when this
- 36:42Speaker 6: wasn't the twenty six man roster they initially intended. And
- 36:45Speaker 6: then you look at the management. I don't know if
- 36:47Speaker 6: carls Mendoza has been as sharp as we need him
- 36:50Speaker 6: to be with the way that this team has been performing.
- 36:52Speaker 6: I think David Stearns has a lot of blame here
- 36:54Speaker 6: with the guys that he's brought in. The performance is
- 36:56Speaker 6: the depth of this organization. Everything is just not up
- 37:00Speaker 6: to standard. And like you said, what is their biggest problem.
- 37:02Speaker 6: The biggest problem right now is that they are the
- 37:03Speaker 6: New York Mets and they can't get out of their
- 37:06Speaker 6: own way, seemingly.
- 37:07Speaker 1: So I want to dive into the injury component here
- 37:11Speaker 1: with you, Mark. I think the team is building up
- 37:13Speaker 1: better in the farm system over the last few years.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Right We've seen a number of players come up here
- 37:18Speaker 1: like Eing and benj contributing right now to the outfield.
- 37:22Speaker 1: The problem I have, I think is now reversed, is
- 37:24Speaker 1: you need healthy core of players in the big leagues
- 37:29Speaker 1: and then if there is an injury issue here and there,
- 37:31Speaker 1: especially to your position players, which should be less than
- 37:33Speaker 1: your pitchers on most teams, then someone comes it in
- 37:36Speaker 1: to fill that spot. For me, one of the severe
- 37:39Speaker 1: misses I think was how they miscalculated some of the
- 37:43Speaker 1: players they were bringing in and their injury passed. And
- 37:46Speaker 1: the easy ones to pick on here are Polanco and
- 37:50Speaker 1: Luis Roberts. So your thoughts on the way that they
- 37:52Speaker 1: were evaluating players that they were bringing in and how
- 37:54Speaker 1: much that's hurting the team too, because yes, every team
- 37:57Speaker 1: goes through injuries, but the easiest way to predict injuries
- 37:59Speaker 1: is to look injury history, and that's what they did.
- 38:01Speaker 1: They replaced guys that play every freaking day, like Pete
- 38:05Speaker 1: Alonso and Brandon Nimo with guys like this.
- 38:08Speaker 6: Yeah, no, that's that was a major oversight miscalculation by
- 38:12Speaker 6: the front office. The fact that Hora Polanco for the
- 38:15Speaker 6: last five or six years really hasn't been the most
- 38:17Speaker 6: healthy player consistently, and a lot of the injuries have
- 38:20Speaker 6: been lower body things. For Polanco, that was something that
- 38:22Speaker 6: we should have considered when we signed him earlier, very
- 38:25Speaker 6: early in the offseason. Same thing with Louise Robert, where
- 38:28Speaker 6: that guy has almost never played a healthy season outside
- 38:30Speaker 6: the one year he was like a top ten MVP candidate.
- 38:33Speaker 6: He has a hard time staying on the field and
- 38:35Speaker 6: to rely offensively on those guys to fill holes for
- 38:38Speaker 6: a team that needed holes to be filled offensively because
- 38:41Speaker 6: they lost so many guys that you know, the organization
- 38:43Speaker 6: chose to.
- 38:44Speaker 7: Not bring back or chose to trade away.
- 38:46Speaker 6: It was pretty I don't want to I don't know
- 38:49Speaker 6: if irresponsible is the right word to use, but it
- 38:51Speaker 6: was a major oversight by the front office, and I
- 38:53Speaker 6: am shocked that the Mets did have that oversight, just
- 38:56Speaker 6: because this was something that I feel like everybody in
- 38:59Speaker 6: baseball thought that the Mets went healthy, We're going to
- 39:01Speaker 6: be good. But the problem was if they were going
- 39:03Speaker 6: to be healthy, And it seems like the Mets didn't
- 39:05Speaker 6: calculate for that, like fifty to fifty of not being
- 39:08Speaker 6: healthy with the guys that they brought in, and it's
- 39:10Speaker 6: really really hurt this team. The young guys has been great,
- 39:13Speaker 6: but they just can't do it all.
- 39:16Speaker 4: They can't. They can't. That's why you're bringing a guy
- 39:18Speaker 4: like Marcus Simeon, but he was already he already had
- 39:21Speaker 4: has kind of started to decline, And now everybody's saying, oh, well,
- 39:24Speaker 4: Marcus Simeon, Marcus Simeon, but this is kind of what
- 39:27Speaker 4: he's been for the last couple of years.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 39:29Speaker 4: They brought him in for defense, but now the Mets
- 39:31Speaker 4: fans went him to be offensive player. Right. Meanwhile, Brandon
- 39:35Speaker 4: Emo just goes down rinks just.
- 39:36Speaker 6: Saying yeah, I mean, I think right now Simon is
- 39:39Speaker 6: playing better, but from like the stuff under the hood,
- 39:42Speaker 6: it just seems like he's playing better. We don't necessarily
- 39:44Speaker 6: know if there's been like this huge change in what
- 39:46Speaker 6: he's done. I've been really more disappointed in his defense.
- 39:48Speaker 6: I thought that at the absolute worst, he was gonna
- 39:51Speaker 6: be a plus defender at second base, and right now
- 39:52Speaker 6: he's not really grading out that way. He's grading out
- 39:55Speaker 6: league average at best, which with that offense, like you said, AJ,
- 39:58Speaker 6: that's been kind of declining year over year as Marcus
- 40:00Speaker 6: Simian's getting older. It's a scary thought that we're now
- 40:03Speaker 6: attached to him for a couple more years. When we
- 40:06Speaker 6: moved on from NEMO because we didn't like that contract
- 40:08Speaker 6: and what it could look like as he gets older,
- 40:11Speaker 6: and it seems like we've taken on another one that's
- 40:14Speaker 6: honestly just as tough on the team financially and in
- 40:17Speaker 6: terms of performance. It's it's a messy situation, something that
- 40:21Speaker 6: I didn't think David Stearns would be getting this organization
- 40:24Speaker 6: into when they brought him in, had a lot of
- 40:26Speaker 6: faith in him. And it's like the first time in
- 40:28Speaker 6: a long time that I actually started to waver a
- 40:31Speaker 6: lot on what's going on here with the Mets front
- 40:32Speaker 6: office and their decisions.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Right you want to see teams win trades, especially when
- 40:36Speaker 1: they're trades that are involving a lot of money, and
- 40:39Speaker 1: usually it takes some time to evaluate those deals. I
- 40:42Speaker 1: can't see a path where they didn't get walloped in
- 40:44Speaker 1: this trade. I don't think Brandon Nemo is suddenly going
- 40:46Speaker 1: down the toilet, and I don't think Marcus Semi and
- 40:48Speaker 1: suddenly finding what he was from four years ago.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:52Speaker 6: Like I know, a lot of Mets fans right now
- 40:53Speaker 6: like to point out that brand Nemo has been cold
- 40:55Speaker 6: over the last month and Mark Suman has been playing better,
- 40:57Speaker 6: but it's it's a small sample, and I do think
- 40:59Speaker 6: over the length of this contract, brand Nimo's going to
- 41:01Speaker 6: be the better offensive player. We expected Simeon to be
- 41:04Speaker 6: the better defensive player, and the fact that he's not
- 41:07Speaker 6: there makes his trade so so lopsided for the Rangers.
- 41:10Speaker 6: And I think every Mets fan, and I even think
- 41:12Speaker 6: the front office included expected Brandon Nimo to always be
- 41:15Speaker 6: that better offensive player than Simeon. But I think they
- 41:18Speaker 6: thought that Simeon was going to be able to bring
- 41:20Speaker 6: that value elsewhere and he's just not doing that right now,
- 41:23Speaker 6: which is part of the problem. This team's just not
- 41:25Speaker 6: really strong anywhere on any side of the ball besides
- 41:28Speaker 6: the bullpen.
- 41:29Speaker 7: Weirdly enough, I think.
- 41:31Speaker 4: Mark I Freddy Perotto came in and was supposed to
- 41:33Speaker 4: be the ace, McLean Ohan McLain was supposed to take
- 41:36Speaker 4: a step forward. They've both struggled with control. Freddy hasn't
- 41:40Speaker 4: been able to go deep into the game. Is this
- 41:42Speaker 4: they let go of their pitching coach and the Braves
- 41:44Speaker 4: pitchers are pretty darn good and he's in their division.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Is this one of those buyers remorse where they maybe
- 41:50Speaker 4: we should have kept having it around a little bit
- 41:51Speaker 4: longer and not gone to what they've gone Or is
- 41:54Speaker 4: this just a neat move that needed to be made.
- 41:56Speaker 6: I think, you know, on the Best of the Podcast,
- 41:58Speaker 6: we've been huge fans of Jeremy Hefner, while James even
- 42:00Speaker 6: had a jersey of him. So like, we hated to
- 42:03Speaker 6: see Jeremy Hefner go just because we've seen firsthand what
- 42:06Speaker 6: he has done to pitchers that had been subpar, pitchers
- 42:09Speaker 6: that had been average, pitchers have been great and he
- 42:11Speaker 6: gets the most out of them. And something that we
- 42:13Speaker 6: heard from players when we spoke to them about Jeremy
- 42:15Speaker 6: Hefner was that he does an incredible job of taking
- 42:18Speaker 6: in those analytics, taking in that data and making it
- 42:20Speaker 6: palatable for the players so that they understand what they
- 42:22Speaker 6: need to do. Justin Willard is a great pitching mind,
- 42:26Speaker 6: but maybe right now this job could be a little
- 42:29Speaker 6: bit more difficult than expected for him, a guy who
- 42:32Speaker 6: is a little bit more behind the scenes in the past,
- 42:34Speaker 6: now being in charge of entire pitching staff. It is
- 42:36Speaker 6: super disappointing how Freddy Prawult has pitched this year. It's
- 42:39Speaker 6: pretty disappointing how nol McLean's looked at. The one thing
- 42:42Speaker 6: I'll give him Maclain is at least he's going a
- 42:43Speaker 6: little bit deeper in games, where Freddy has been kind
- 42:46Speaker 6: of a five inning guy this year, not really giving
- 42:48Speaker 6: us length, and that's something that's existed his entire career.
- 42:51Speaker 6: But those two guys, if the Mets won any chance,
- 42:54Speaker 6: especially with the anemic offense that they have it's one
- 42:56Speaker 6: of the worst in the league. They need those frontline
- 42:58Speaker 6: guys to be They need to be stoppers, and they're
- 43:02Speaker 6: just not pitching at that level right now.
- 43:03Speaker 1: It's pretty frustrating a question for you on this topic,
- 43:07Speaker 1: and this is much less against Justin Willard as it
- 43:11Speaker 1: is for Jeremy Haffner. I don't know a lot about Willard.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I knew a lot more about Haffner, and he's been
- 43:16Speaker 1: around and was with the Mets for a while. You're
- 43:19Speaker 1: in it every day, right, watching every pitch. How much
- 43:22Speaker 1: of a factor do you think them canning Heffner has
- 43:26Speaker 1: been he goes over to Atlanta, they are freaking lights
- 43:29Speaker 1: out on all departments. Some guys emerging that you did
- 43:32Speaker 1: not think we're going to emerge and pitch well, including
- 43:34Speaker 1: even like Martine Perez is striking dudes out like just
- 43:37Speaker 1: amazing work that. I felt like we saw a lot
- 43:39Speaker 1: from Haffner over those years, and then all of a
- 43:41Speaker 1: sudden they just get rid of all the coaches. So, yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 1: the Bullpen's had some bright spots like that, But for
- 43:47Speaker 1: the most part, how much of a difference do you
- 43:49Speaker 1: think it made for them to get rid of someone
- 43:51Speaker 1: who maybe didn't deserve that?
- 43:54Speaker 7: Yeah, I do think it is a difference maker for
- 43:56Speaker 7: this team.
- 43:57Speaker 6: I think the way I like to think about the
- 43:59Speaker 6: coaching staff a lot of time is that there's not
- 44:00Speaker 6: necessarily like a negative that comes from any of these guys.
- 44:03Speaker 7: That are all doing their job. They're all working hard.
- 44:05Speaker 6: But I do think that there can be some more
- 44:06Speaker 6: positives that come from it. It does feel like Jeremy
- 44:08Speaker 6: Hefner brought a lot to the table. Like every single
- 44:11Speaker 6: picture I've ever heard that has been pitching for Jeremy
- 44:14Speaker 6: Hefner under him and his staff, they have glowing reviews.
- 44:17Speaker 6: They absolutely love it and the information that he gives
- 44:20Speaker 6: to them. He does an incredible job. And it's proof
- 44:23Speaker 6: with the Atlanta Brays pitching staff, like you said, getting
- 44:26Speaker 6: so much out of guys that you did not expect,
- 44:28Speaker 6: and that's a lot of what's been happening for the
- 44:29Speaker 6: Mets the past couple of years.
- 44:31Speaker 7: I do think that there is a learning curve.
- 44:32Speaker 6: I do think that there needs to be some patience,
- 44:34Speaker 6: of course with a first time pitching coach in Justin Williard,
- 44:37Speaker 6: and I do like a lot of the philosophies that
- 44:39Speaker 6: he has, where it's publicly stated before about being nasty
- 44:42Speaker 6: in the zone and attacking batters. But it does seem
- 44:44Speaker 6: like right now the Mets pitchers are a little bit lost,
- 44:48Speaker 6: especially Peralta McClain, they need something. They're not necessarily the sharpest,
- 44:52Speaker 6: and I'm hoping that we can figure that out sooner
- 44:54Speaker 6: than later, because with the season one, you know already
- 44:57Speaker 6: in June and the Mets so far back, we don't
- 44:59Speaker 6: really have time for them to be in this like
- 45:01Speaker 6: four four or five R spot mark.
- 45:05Speaker 4: Do you believe in this team? We're only six out
- 45:06Speaker 4: of the Wildcard. Do you think they can get into
- 45:08Speaker 4: it or do you think it's too far gone?
- 45:10Speaker 6: I can't believe in the team that currently sits on
- 45:14Speaker 6: the field right now. Like when Francisco Lindor comes back,
- 45:17Speaker 6: things could change, but the way this roster is constructed currently.
- 45:21Speaker 6: It's crazy for me to say because I'm the Mets
- 45:22Speaker 6: World Series guy every single year, but I don't believe
- 45:25Speaker 6: in this team.
- 45:26Speaker 7: I don't think they've got it this year.
- 45:28Speaker 6: I hate giving up on a season because I love
- 45:29Speaker 6: baseball so much and I you know, as soon as
- 45:32Speaker 6: the season ends, I can't wait for the next one
- 45:33Speaker 6: to start.
- 45:33Speaker 7: But this is such a disappointments.
- 45:35Speaker 6: It's left such a bad taste in my mouth, especially
- 45:37Speaker 6: with how last season ended that until they actually show
- 45:41Speaker 6: that they are a different team, I just believe they
- 45:44Speaker 6: are this team. That's what nine to ten games under
- 45:45Speaker 6: five hundred and nothing's gonna change.
- 45:48Speaker 1: So with that being said, do you think that this
- 45:52Speaker 1: team will sell pieces at the trade deadline, and if so,
- 45:55Speaker 1: what will that look like? Right Like, if let's just
- 45:58Speaker 1: fast forward a month then change, say they're in the
- 46:00Speaker 1: same spot, they're like six games out, they're ten under
- 46:04Speaker 1: whatever something along those lines. Are they selling and who
- 46:08Speaker 1: are they selling? Like the short term rentals? Is there
- 46:10Speaker 1: anyone even longer term that you think they would try
- 46:12Speaker 1: and get rid of.
- 46:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I do think that the Mets are going to
- 46:15Speaker 6: sell right now, being nine games out. I think the Wildcard,
- 46:18Speaker 6: like everyone mentions like five six games, I do think
- 46:20Speaker 6: it's a little bit of like false hope. Everybody in
- 46:23Speaker 6: baseball feels like they're five or six games out of
- 46:25Speaker 6: the wild card and this team is not playing like
- 46:27Speaker 6: a team that deserves to be fighting for a wildcard spot.
- 46:30Speaker 6: And as the season gets longer, it's only going to
- 46:31Speaker 6: get more of a difference between the Wildcard and the Mets.
- 46:34Speaker 6: So yeah, I think Freddy Peralt is going to be
- 46:36Speaker 6: on the move. I think the fact that the pitching
- 46:38Speaker 6: market's gonna be a little more robust hurts the Mets,
- 46:41Speaker 6: But also at the same time, they clearly have one
- 46:42Speaker 6: of the probably like three, maybe fourth best pitcher available
- 46:46Speaker 6: on the market. This Sea trade deadline Clay Holmes if
- 46:49Speaker 6: he comes back healthy, I think someone that could also
- 46:51Speaker 6: be on the move. I don't expect many of the
- 46:53Speaker 6: pieces on the offense, just because I don't think there's
- 46:55Speaker 6: a lot of movable contracts right now on the offensive side.
- 46:58Speaker 6: But look for the pitch staff to be on the move,
- 47:01Speaker 6: any of the guys that are, you know, under short
- 47:02Speaker 6: term deals. And then in the bullpen, think a sneaky
- 47:05Speaker 6: arm that could be available as Luke Weaver. Maybe you
- 47:07Speaker 6: try and cash in on Wastcar Broslebon who's been great
- 47:09Speaker 6: this year. It's tough to wave the white flag, but
- 47:12Speaker 6: I do think the Mets need to take a look
- 47:13Speaker 6: in the mirror and ask themselves can this team make
- 47:16Speaker 6: the playoffs? And if they do, can they even win
- 47:17Speaker 6: a series? And right now doesn't feel like they can.
- 47:21Speaker 4: Mark. I gotta ask you this, how'd you feel last night?
- 47:25Speaker 4: Did you think the Knicks were gonna win that game
- 47:26Speaker 4: last night? And look they did it? So maybe you're
- 47:30Speaker 4: just a quitter. Maybe you're a quitter.
- 47:32Speaker 6: And if it's it's a live wager at halftime that
- 47:35Speaker 6: the Knicks were gonna win. So theoretically I was always
- 47:38Speaker 6: a believer. Got that cash that one in which was nice.
- 47:41Speaker 6: But I mean I thought that game was over for sure.
- 47:43Speaker 6: That was just me being like, let me force myself
- 47:46Speaker 6: to stay involved and care about this. That game was unbelievable.
- 47:49Speaker 6: I don't know if the Mets have that kind of
- 47:51Speaker 6: come back in them. I think we use that in
- 47:53Speaker 6: what twenty twenty four? I think we use that. So
- 47:56Speaker 6: I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch with the
- 47:58Speaker 6: Mets here. I think I think these two teams are
- 48:01Speaker 6: very different if you look at how organizations have been
- 48:03Speaker 6: and synergy and all this kind of like nonsense corporate talk.
- 48:06Speaker 6: But the Knicks are run so well, and I just
- 48:09Speaker 6: I don't feel the same about that with the New
- 48:10Speaker 6: York Mets.
- 48:11Speaker 4: Mark, Mark, do you when dearon Fox hoisted the lay
- 48:15Speaker 4: up for no reason? Did you just did your head
- 48:18Speaker 4: explode like everybody else? And then also, if the Mets
- 48:21Speaker 4: or if the Knicks do win one more game, does
- 48:24Speaker 4: that put more pressure on the Mets, because then, I mean,
- 48:27Speaker 4: the Jets they're never gonna win. It seems like so no,
- 48:29Speaker 4: but then it would be the Mets would be the
- 48:31Speaker 4: next team right in line of the big ones that
- 48:34Speaker 4: haven't won in the longest time. I think.
- 48:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think right now a lot of
- 48:38Speaker 6: Mets fans are super glad that the Knicks are playing
- 48:40Speaker 6: well because we can just kind of detach from the
- 48:42Speaker 6: team and not.
- 48:43Speaker 7: Worry about how poorly they're playing.
- 48:45Speaker 6: But yeah, as soon as the Knick season ends, and
- 48:47Speaker 6: hopefully in an NBA Final championship, people are gonna get
- 48:50Speaker 6: even more frustrated and more angry. And I think you're
- 48:52Speaker 6: gonna hear the booze more and you're gonna see city
- 48:54Speaker 6: field empty out just because there's kind of no reason
- 48:57Speaker 6: right now to be at the field. They're not playing well,
- 49:00Speaker 6: there's no excitement, there's no vibes, there's a lot of
- 49:03Speaker 6: other things to do in the city right now. It's
- 49:05Speaker 6: a scary place to be a Mets fan right now.
- 49:07Speaker 6: And I gotta think Steve Cohen's quite frustrated with how
- 49:10Speaker 6: this season in the end of last season's gone. So
- 49:12Speaker 6: I'm interested to see what the decisions and moves are
- 49:15Speaker 6: from here on out, because it's pretty unacceptable for how
- 49:18Speaker 6: much money he's investing into this roster and what the
- 49:21Speaker 6: performance he's getting out of them year in and year.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Out, and just curious about what was it at plus
- 49:27Speaker 1: what career.
- 49:29Speaker 7: I got it at I think plus seventeen hundred, So
- 49:32Speaker 7: that was that was a nice time.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Odds.
- 49:35Speaker 6: I've been all over the Knicks on these comebacks, like
- 49:39Speaker 6: every time they've been down. I've been placing a small
- 49:41Speaker 6: wager here and there, and i think I'm three for
- 49:43Speaker 6: three so far, so I'm feeling pretty good.
- 49:46Speaker 4: They've done it.
- 49:47Speaker 1: They can, I mean, obviously aside from the last game,
- 49:49Speaker 1: but they continue to do that where they're down at
- 49:52Speaker 1: least at some point in the game a decent margin,
- 49:54Speaker 1: and they quickly were in the case slowly scurry back
- 49:57Speaker 1: because it took a while, but yeah, exactly, just keep
- 50:00Speaker 1: the distraction going. You've got another week of that, maybe less,
- 50:03Speaker 1: maybe more right about a week give or take a
- 50:05Speaker 1: few days of Knicks distractions and then you can get
- 50:08Speaker 1: pissed about the Mets again. But good catching up with you, dude.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Appreciate the therapy session. Everyone check out Messed Up if
- 50:13Speaker 1: you don't already, YouTube channel podcast and the.
- 50:18Speaker 4: Mets just I mean want so want so in a while.
- 50:21Speaker 4: But yeah, the let's just tie the game.
- 50:24Speaker 7: The foul territory bump right there, and we'd love to
- 50:26Speaker 7: see it. Thank you guys for having me on.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Gotta believe Let's go next.
- 50:31Speaker 1: Appreciate Tomark talksing dude.
- 50:33Speaker 7: See you guys,
