- 2:15Speaker 4: get some books that go bump in the night. Okay. See,
- 2:20Speaker 4: I'm gonna read scary books. Okay, because your girl I
- 2:25Speaker 4: already got to sleep with the TV on. I can't
- 2:26Speaker 4: sleep in Dead Silence. So me even finding these books
- 2:31Speaker 4: tonight was a little bit like, oh, okay, will I
- 2:35Speaker 4: add these on my list? Most likely not, but I
- 2:39Speaker 4: know there's a lot of people who are into the Ghools,
- 2:42Speaker 4: the Gogglins, the black magic, the murder mysteries. So this
- 2:47Speaker 4: podcast is for you tonight. So Tims the season screaming. Okay,
- 2:58Speaker 4: all these books are recommended by me and some of
- 3:00Speaker 4: my friends who I know online in that book world.
- 3:03Speaker 4: So let's get started, you guys. Here are some notable
- 3:09Speaker 4: authors that are very popular when it comes down to
- 3:13Speaker 4: this genre. I really can't even give this genre like
- 3:18Speaker 4: a single title, because you have your murder mysteries, you
- 3:23Speaker 4: have your books about root and black magic, you have
- 3:28Speaker 4: your books that are about paranormal. So you got a
- 3:33Speaker 4: little bit of mystery, sci fi, a little bit of
- 3:39Speaker 4: historical fiction. Then they're also So here are some notable
- 3:43Speaker 4: authors everybody knows. Jason Peel, Aeronnie Adams, she is a
- 3:48Speaker 4: new young adult author. Then you have Ran Douglas. Then
- 3:53Speaker 4: we're gonna take it back to the old school and
- 3:55Speaker 4: bring out the Walter Mosley. Nakeisha Afra she's a new one,
- 4:01Speaker 4: and Kim Johnson. She really does those little people right. So, parents, parents,
- 4:09Speaker 4: some books for your elementary grades students. These are grades
- 4:12Speaker 4: K through four. Okay, the first one we have is
- 4:16Speaker 4: called The Spectacular Tales The Perfect Pumpkin in the Halloween
- 4:22Speaker 4: the Little Witch. Yeah, y'all, that's the whole entire title.
- 4:28Speaker 4: That is a title for you. And the author is
- 4:30Speaker 4: Nna Speller. So we're gonna step into the world of magic, hope,
- 4:35Speaker 4: and self discovery with The Perfect Pumpkin and HALLOWEENA. She's
- 4:41Speaker 4: the Littlest Witch and the Perfect Pumpkin. One of the
- 4:45Speaker 4: Pumpkin dreams of being chosen from the patch as Halloween
- 4:50Speaker 4: theirs and has his friends finds home. He feels he'll
- 4:54Speaker 4: never get picked until our little boy discover us a
- 4:59Speaker 4: special world within and making him the star of Halloween Night.
- 5:03Speaker 4: So guess what In HALLOWEENA, which is the second book
- 5:07Speaker 4: in this title, The Littlest Witch, Halloweena dreams of the
- 5:12Speaker 4: soaring through disguise like the other witches, but when a
- 5:16Speaker 4: little mouse needs her help, she learns that the true
- 5:19Speaker 4: magic come from within, proving that even the smallest witch
- 5:24Speaker 4: can spine the brightest. Now, this book I recommend for
- 5:29Speaker 4: those between the ages of three and eight. Okay, it's
- 5:33Speaker 4: little mini stories that I think are great for those
- 5:36Speaker 4: bad times. Okay, you guys, suck, go ahead and grab
- 5:39Speaker 4: this one. Little Ruth the Halloween Drama Queen by d Ryder.
- 5:48Speaker 4: So Little Ruf, you guys is looking for a charming
- 5:54Speaker 4: story where Ruth is a spiriting young girl who dreams
- 5:57Speaker 4: of being a princess for Halloween. But when her dream
- 6:01Speaker 4: costume costs more than her allowance, what's the decision she's
- 6:06Speaker 4: gonna make? How did she get what she wants without overspending?
- 6:11Speaker 4: So as Ruth learns about saving money, budgeting, and the
- 6:15Speaker 4: apportments of sticking to her limits, young readers will gently
- 6:20Speaker 4: introduce to the concept of financial literacy. I love how
- 6:25Speaker 4: this author just lid this in here because no one
- 6:29Speaker 4: is thinking about financial literacy while they picking up candy. Well,
- 6:33Speaker 4: guess what, you guys, The author of Little Ruth thought
- 6:36Speaker 4: that this was the best occasion to teach these kids.
- 6:39Speaker 4: This book again is perfect for those between Hmmm, let's
- 6:45Speaker 4: say four and eight this time, because now we actually
- 6:48Speaker 4: talk about the process of money. Yeah, four and eight
- 6:53Speaker 4: will be the best one. So yeah, I'm still thinking
- 7:01Speaker 4: about that four year old, but now four year olds
- 7:04Speaker 4: are able to identify bills and coins, so I think
- 7:06Speaker 4: this would be a great one for them. Okay, you guys,
- 7:09Speaker 4: so grab this one. Little Ruth the Halloween Drama Queen by.
- 7:14Speaker 2: The writer.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Now our next one. I was so honored to meet
- 7:20Speaker 4: this author when she came to Charleston for you office,
- 7:23Speaker 4: and I'm so happy she is now going from young
- 7:26Speaker 4: adult into children's book. This one's called Trick or Treating
- 7:30Speaker 4: in the City by Tiffany D. Jackson. Janelle's know exactly
- 7:34Speaker 4: what she wants to be for Halloween, but she has
- 7:37Speaker 4: no idea how she'll celebrate. Her mommy has to work
- 7:41Speaker 4: and can't take her to trick or treat in the suburbs,
- 7:45Speaker 4: and Daddy has to run his store like always. But
- 7:48Speaker 4: listening to her friends and neighbors story of Halloween's passing
- 7:52Speaker 4: presence helped Janelle realize there's this many ways to celebrate
- 7:58Speaker 4: the fall olity that leads that lets her give us
- 8:03Speaker 4: much more than she gets. So, you guys, this is
- 8:05Speaker 4: for those kids who are in the inner city ages
- 8:10Speaker 4: three to five. I think five years old would be
- 8:13Speaker 4: like the MAXI on this one. And the reason for
- 8:16Speaker 4: this book is so good because I think it's very
- 8:19Speaker 4: forgiving to parents nowadays who have to work and really
- 8:23Speaker 4: won't be able to get off to du the trick
- 8:25Speaker 4: con treating, and then it also brings back the concept
- 8:29Speaker 4: of the village. So grab this one. Trick or Treating
- 8:33Speaker 4: in the City by Tiffany D. Jackson. So you know,
- 8:39Speaker 4: we always got to represent each grade level. So now
- 8:44Speaker 4: these are the reads for our middle grades, grades five
- 8:48Speaker 4: through eight. Y'all. I love to cover of this one.
- 8:54Speaker 4: It's not too scary, but it's enough scary for that age.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Tales from Care. I'm in twenty three The boot Hag Flex.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Now why did I choose this book. There's something that
- 9:08Speaker 4: we talk about here in Charlton that's called the hag okay,
- 9:12Speaker 4: and they would say the Hag is writing you. And
- 9:15Speaker 4: when they say the Hag is writing you, it's just
- 9:17Speaker 4: that you're wanting to get up out of sleep, but
- 9:20Speaker 4: you can't because you have this heavy, heavy burning on you. Okay.
- 9:26Speaker 4: So when I saw this, I saw this book, I
- 9:28Speaker 4: was like, oh, that's cute. That's a nice play on it.
- 9:31Speaker 4: But this is great for those that are in grades
- 9:33Speaker 4: five through eight. So a few campers at Camp apple
- 9:38Speaker 4: Hill Farm have been found in the mysterious Cabin rooming
- 9:43Speaker 4: to be a Whisperer's woman. What when the world is
- 9:49Speaker 4: a whisperer's woman. Well guess what, you guys, woun have
- 9:52Speaker 4: to read the book to find out. The Shady Palms
- 9:55Speaker 4: trailer Park seems like a miserable place to spend the summer,
- 9:59Speaker 4: but eve for the elderly neighborhood that actually shows up. Okay,
- 10:04Speaker 4: So what does this elderly neighbor have to do with
- 10:07Speaker 4: Camp happle Hill? Who knows, But you need to go
- 10:11Speaker 4: grab this one for your middle schooler. Tales from Cabin
- 10:14Speaker 4: twenty three The Boo Hag Flex by Justina Ireland Olficos
- 10:24Speaker 4: of Field's Ghosts by Justina Ireland. Now, the reason why
- 10:29Speaker 4: I chose two books of hers because one of her books,
- 10:32Speaker 4: the one that we just had, which was The Boo
- 10:34Speaker 4: Hag Flex, that's more of a modern type book. She
- 10:38Speaker 4: also does this historical mystery book for teens. Okay. Olfreilla
- 10:43Speaker 4: Harrison was living in a small town in Georgia countryside.
- 10:48Speaker 4: But that was before the night of Nober November nineteen
- 10:52Speaker 4: twenty two and the cruel act that took her home
- 10:57Speaker 4: and her father from her, which was the same night
- 11:00Speaker 4: that Opi learned that she can see ghosts. Now, Opi
- 11:04Speaker 4: and her mother are living in Pittsburgh with their relatives
- 11:07Speaker 4: they barely know, in the hopes of earning enough money
- 11:11Speaker 4: to get their own place. Mama's gotten Ofi a job
- 11:15Speaker 4: as a maid in the same old manor house, where
- 11:19Speaker 4: she works well that of their manner, like the wealthy
- 11:24Speaker 4: Cufler's family who owns it, is haunted by the memories
- 11:28Speaker 4: and the pre justice of the past. And that's when
- 11:31Speaker 4: Opie discovers ghosts as well, girls who have their own loves,
- 11:37Speaker 4: their own hatreds, their own desires, ghols who have wronged others,
- 11:42Speaker 4: and girls who have them who have had wronged none
- 11:45Speaker 4: to them, as Ofie, forms of friendship with one spirit
- 11:49Speaker 4: whose life was in this suddenly and unjustly. She wonders
- 11:55Speaker 4: if she might be able to help, even if she
- 11:59Speaker 4: comes to real life as a daffodil manor my whole
- 12:02Speaker 4: more secrets than she bothers for. Okay, you guys, this
- 12:08Speaker 4: is one of those one if you have that teen
- 12:10Speaker 4: in your life who all want wants to know who, what,
- 12:13Speaker 4: where and why, and want a little bit of history

- 20:08Speaker 4: the queen. Not only is she beautiful, but she's wealthy,
- 20:12Speaker 4: and she's white, and it's her legacy. Her mother, her grandmother,
- 20:18Speaker 4: and even her sister wore the crown before her. Everyone
- 20:23Speaker 4: in Loveland know that Tinsley will do anything to carry
- 20:26Speaker 4: on and make author tradition. Now, no one is certain
- 20:30Speaker 4: of what happened to Duchess Simmons, but Duscha Simmons is
- 20:34Speaker 4: no the best friend. Duches's father is the first black
- 20:38Speaker 4: police captain in Loveland. For Duchess Nover crown was more
- 20:43Speaker 4: than just a win for Nova. It was the win
- 20:45Speaker 4: for all the black folks to live there. Now, her
- 20:49Speaker 4: best friend is dad. Her father won't face the fact
- 20:52Speaker 4: that the main subject suspect is right in front of him.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Duchess is convinced that Tendsley kill Nova intensely. It's privileged
- 21:01Speaker 4: enough to think that she can get away with it.
- 21:04Speaker 4: But guess what, Duch's father seems to be doing what
- 21:07Speaker 4: he always does, fall back behind the blue line, which
- 21:11Speaker 4: means the white girl is gonna walk, not with Duchess. Brian,
