- 0:05Speaker: Hello, fellow Stowjourners.
- 0:07Speaker: I'm your host, Dave Leighton, and welcome to Travel with a Purpose, a podcast designed to keep Coach earners and friends informed, entertained, and inspired.
- 0:24Speaker: Pearl had been spending long hours in the beehive sewing curtains, repairing cushions, and somehow organizing enough fabric to supply a small country.
- 0:35Speaker: Earl noticed she was getting tired, even though she kept insisting she was doing just fine.
- 0:42Speaker: That statement alone told Earl she needed h elp.
- 0:46Speaker: So Earl decided he would surprise her, not with flowers, not with chocolate, not even with one of his famous I fixed it myself projects that usually require Jay and Joel afterward.
- 1:00Speaker: No, Earl was going to do the laundry.
- 1:05Speaker: Quietly, secretly, successfully.
- 1:08Speaker: At least that was the plan.
- 1:12Speaker: Early Tuesday morning, while Pearl was already hard at work in the beehive, Earl snuck into the RV and gathered two baskets of laundry like a man preparing for a classified military operation.
- 1:25Speaker: Miles the poodle watched suspiciously from the couch.
- 1:30Speaker: Keep this between us, Earl whispered.
- 1:33Speaker: Miles barked once, which Earl took as agreement.
- 1:37Speaker: Now, the Can't Be laundry room sits close to the tool shed, which for Earl was both convenient and dangerous.
- 1:46Speaker: Earl had never successfully passed the tool shed without wandering inside just for a minute.
- 1:53Speaker: As Earl carried the laundry baskets toward the laundry room, he noticed Jay standing beside the shed, looking at a pushmore.
- 2:02Speaker: Well good morning, Earl, Jay called out.
- 2:04Speaker: Got a second?
- 2:05Speaker: Those words have started more can't be disasters than anybody cared to count.
- 2:10Speaker: Earl set the laundry basket just inside the laundry room door.
- 2:15Speaker: Well let me get the laundry going, and I'll be right there, Earl said importantly.
- 2:20Speaker: Jay nodded slowly.
- 2:22Speaker: Well, this'll only take a minute.
- 2:24Speaker: These words were even more dangerous.
- 2:27Speaker: Inside the tool shed, Earl quickly became distracted by sockets, extension cords, oil cans, and a mysterious bucket labeled probably useful.
- 2:39Speaker: Meanwhile, back in the laundry room, Earl's washer was happily filled with every piece of clothing he'd brought whites, colors, towels, Earl's favorite sweatshirt, one bright red travel with a purpose shirt.
- 2:56Speaker: Nature began quietly preparing consequences.
- 3:02Speaker: About twenty minutes later, Carol, Jay's wife, wandered by, getting ready to do laundry.
- 3:08Speaker: When she opened the laundry door, she froze.
- 3:12Speaker: The washing machine was violently thumping around on the floor like it was trying to escape Texas.
- 3:19Speaker: She stepped back outside and yelled toward the tool shed.
- 3:23Speaker: Earl came running out of the shed holding a crescent wrench.
- 3:31Speaker: What?
- 3:32Speaker: The washer slammed against the wall again.
- 3:35Speaker: Bang.
- 3:36Speaker: Soap bubbles were now creeping across the floor toward the dryers.
- 3:42Speaker: Pat Rains appeared seemingly out of nowhere, because Pat always appeared when chaos arrived.
- 3:48Speaker: Well now, Pat said calmly, that don't look healthy.
- 3:52Speaker: Earl lunged toward the washer and opened the lid.
- 3:56Speaker: And a mountain of kink foam exploded upward like Mount Vesuvius.
- 4:01Speaker: Carrol doubled over laughing.
- 4:03Speaker: What did you put in there?
- 4:05Speaker: Earl blinked innocently.
- 4:08Speaker: Extra detergent.
- 4:09Speaker: How much extra?
- 4:11Speaker: Carrol asked.
- 4:12Speaker: Well, I figured if a little was good.
- 4:15Speaker: Pat looked into the detergent bottle.
- 4:18Speaker: Earl, this thing is almost empty.
- 4:21Speaker: Soap bubbles now floated out the doorway and started to run down the sidewalk.
- 4:27Speaker: Ronnie Stewart, who heard all the commotion, walked by, stopped, and stared at the growing foam field.
- 4:34Speaker: Well, he said thoughtfully, at least the laundry room floor's clean.
- 4:39Speaker: Eventually the washer settled down enough for Earl to restart the load.
- 4:43Speaker: That was when Pat quietly pointed into the washer.
- 4:48Speaker: Um Earl Earl looked down.
- 4:52Speaker: Every white item inside had turned bright pink.
- 4:57Speaker: Congratulations, Carol gasped.
- 5:00Speaker: You just created the official Camp Bee Valentine collection.
- 5:04Speaker: Earl groaned.
- 5:06Speaker: And Pearl's favorite sweatshirt, Pat added carefully.
- 5:10Speaker: Earl suddenly looked like a man reconsidering if maybe he could quietly skip out of town.
- 5:17Speaker: Well just then Pearl walked around the corner carrying fabric samples from the beehive.
- 5:23Speaker: She stopped, soap bubbles floated across the sidewalk.
- 5:27Speaker: The laundry room door stood ajar.
- 5:30Speaker: Carol was laughing uncontrollably.
- 5:34Speaker: Ronnie had backed away for safety.
- 5:36Speaker: Pat was holding up a pink towel, and Earl stood in the middle of it all looking guilty enough to confess before trial.
- 5:45Speaker: Pearl folded her arms.
- 5:47Speaker: Earl, what exactly are you doing?
- 5:50Speaker: Earl smiled nervously.
- 5:52Speaker: Surprising you.
- 5:54Speaker: Finally she smiled.
- 6:09Speaker: Well, she said sweetly, I appreciate the thought.
- 6:12Speaker: Orl brightened immediately.
- 6:14Speaker: Really?
- 6:15Speaker: Oh yes, Pearl nodded.
- 6:17Speaker: And now you can surprise me again by helping clean the laundry room.
- 6:22Speaker: Carol nearly fell over laughing.
- 6:25Speaker: And from that day forward, whenever Earl disappeared near the tool shed, somebody always asked, Should we check the laundry room too?
- 6:34Speaker: Earl's laundry adventure reminds everyone it can't be that helping others comes from the heart.
- 6:40Speaker: Sometimes our efforts create soap bubbles, pink shirts, and stories that live on for years.
- 6:47Speaker: Yet acts of love and service still matter.
- 6:52Speaker: Galatians five thirteen encourages us.
- 6:55Speaker: Serve one another humbly in love.
- 6:58Speaker: Earl may never become Camp B's official laundry expert, but Earl appreciated the kindness behind the effort.
- 7:05Speaker: And around Camp B, that kind of love usually matters more than perfectly folded towels.
- 7:12Speaker: Thanks for listening to this podcast.
- 7:15Speaker: I invite you to subscribe and share it with others.
- 7:19Speaker: I'm your host Dave Leighton, and remember we glorify God as together we travel with a purpose.
- 7:26Speaker: Happy sojourning.
