- 0:05Speaker 1: Gotta say congratulations are in order for her becoming the
- 0:08Speaker 1: first ever, we will consider her like a K-pop act, right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: to have a residency in Vegas. Oh wow. Yeah, so congratulations, Lisa.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So we have to fly to fly, yeah. So you know,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you know the trend, um, on TikTok and Instagram now
- 0:23Speaker 1: where it's like catch me before my price goes up
- 0:25Speaker 1: or something like that, that trend.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I think her price is like up there. It's, it's
- 0:30Speaker 1: hitting the ceiling right now. No, but can I ask
- 0:32Speaker 1: how many solo songs does Lisa have? Interesting. So let
- 0:36Speaker 1: me do a quick search to see whether I can
- 0:38Speaker 1: find anything about her lineup because if she is the
- 0:40Speaker 1: stand-alone act, will she sing a few Blackpink songs or
- 0:44Speaker 1: will it be all the Lisa catalog, which will end
- 0:47Speaker 1: in what, less than 1 hour? Yeah, so I'm taking
- 0:49Speaker 1: a look right now. Um, so it has the pre-sale
- 0:52Speaker 1: is starting 22nd of April.
- 0:54Speaker 1: April, um, not that much info just yet, but, uh,
- 0:58Speaker 1: it is, it is a really big deal because like
- 1:01Speaker 1: I said, she's the first K-pop act to land a residency. Um,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I think in terms of lineup and what to expect
- 1:07Speaker 1: during the show is going to come out very, very soon,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but her visuals are out. She looks stunning as usual.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I'm very curious to know how she curates her, her,
- 1:16Speaker 1: her playlist for this performance. I was just counting as
- 1:20Speaker 1: it stands, she has
- 1:21Speaker 1: Maybe say 14 songs in total. So if each of
- 1:25Speaker 1: them lasts 2 minutes and 30 seconds, we are, we
- 1:29Speaker 1: are looking at maybe a less than 45 minute concert,
- 1:32Speaker 1: but I think she will have like, you know, we've
- 1:34Speaker 1: attended a fan before. I think she will do some
- 1:37Speaker 1: interactive segments and maybe even some Blackpink songs. Um, she
- 1:40Speaker 1: will definitely do some dance numbers, I think. So it
- 1:42Speaker 1: could be a combination of everything. It would at least
- 1:44Speaker 1: be like over an hour, right? And knowing her visuals.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Exactly. Excited. Bring out the Bulgari jewelry for us, please. Yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm so excited to watch it. Love is another performer
- 1:55Speaker 1: that we are looking forward to seeing on stage, um, more, more,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I guess sooner than we think, I guess. So she's
- 2:01Speaker 1: coming to Singapore. May 19th. Joakim stepped out to get
- 2:04Speaker 1: green tea, but when he comes back and when I
- 2:07Speaker 1: get my coffee as well, I want to tell you
- 2:10Speaker 1: about a bit of a divine intervention moment, OK? I'll
- 2:13Speaker 1: tell you why.
- 2:14Speaker 1: When Joakim's back from his tea break. OK, so, um,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I experienced a bit of a divine intervention this morning. OK, OK,
- 2:23Speaker 1: tell us. So, um, I'm sure you relate to this,
- 2:26Speaker 1: especially if your alarm goes off very early every morning. OK.
- 2:29Speaker 1: So I set 2 alarms. I used to set more
- 2:31Speaker 1: than 2, maybe 3 or 4 in the past. But
- 2:34Speaker 1: as our, as my body clock started to get a
- 2:37Speaker 1: bit more used to our morning show, I stopped at
- 2:39Speaker 1: 2 alarms. OK. So I at least I know.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Once the first alarm rings, if I snooze it.
- 2:46Speaker 1: The 2nd alarm will ring, and at some point, the
- 2:48Speaker 1: snooze will ring. You know what I mean? So there's
- 2:51Speaker 1: always a backup, right? Um, this morning, the 1st alarm rang,
- 2:55Speaker 1: snoozed it. 2nd alarm rang. I also shut it off.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I was too tired. I was too tired. I had
- 3:02Speaker 1: a big weekend, OK? And, uh, and somehow I might
- 3:07Speaker 1: have dozed back off, OK, I dozed back off. I
- 3:10Speaker 1: actually sat up then and I was like, oh man,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I can't, so I dozed back off.
- 3:13Speaker 1: All of a sudden, right, like out of nowhere, there
- 3:16Speaker 1: was a loud bang, like near my, near my bed. Seriously,
- 3:21Speaker 1: like it was a very loud sound, super loud sound,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and I jolted awake. I was like, OK, now I'm awake.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Like what just happened, right? I thought sometimes, you know,
- 3:29Speaker 1: I have some like, uh, like draw, like paintings or
- 3:33Speaker 1: things leaning against the wall of the cabinet. So I
- 3:36Speaker 1: was thinking, did one of it slip and, you know, uh,
- 3:39Speaker 1: clatter down. So what was it in the end?
- 3:41Speaker 1: I couldn't find out what it was. So then I
- 3:43Speaker 1: looked around, I was like, nothing fell, like everything was intact.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Nothing at all fell. Then guess what? I couldn't find
- 3:50Speaker 1: my phone. OK. So my phone had slipped down the
- 3:55Speaker 1: back of the bed, like the headboard area, and because
- 3:58Speaker 1: mine is an iPhone Air, right, it's super slim. I've,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I've no case on it, like no like rubber case
- 4:04Speaker 1: or anything. So it made a really loud sound when
- 4:07Speaker 1: it hit the floor, because I have no carpet on
- 4:09Speaker 1: my floor either.
- 4:10Speaker 1: So that was what the sound was and I just
- 4:13Speaker 1: took it as a sign, right? This is the universe
- 4:16Speaker 1: telling me to wake up now. And you had to
- 4:20Speaker 1: move your bed to retrieve the phone. I actually managed to,
- 4:23Speaker 1: my hand is slim enough to slip at the back
- 4:26Speaker 1: of the headboard.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, you have bones in your hand. I'm just very flexible. Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So I managed to like maneuver my strange contortionist hand
- 4:35Speaker 1: arm down. I managed to reach it and I, I
- 4:39Speaker 1: pulled it back up and I was like, I looked
- 4:41Speaker 1: at my phone and I was just like,
- 4:43Speaker 1: This is the universe telling me to wake up now.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I tell you it was a sign. It was so weird.
- 4:48Speaker 1: anything like Sonya this morning, then he has divine intervention
- 4:50Speaker 1: for you as well. For me, at least, I'm guaranteed
- 4:52Speaker 1: two alarms. One is my mom closing her door to
- 4:56Speaker 1: leave the house for work, and the second is my phone. Oh, OK.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I thought it would be your mom going wake up
- 5:02Speaker 1: like at some point you. Sometimes the second one will
- 5:05Speaker 1: be my mom saying, Hey, hello, hello.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Exactly right. Exactly. Ah, well, thankfully we're here. Quick question,
- 5:14Speaker 1: what are you doing this Sunday, April 19th? This Sunday,
- 5:17Speaker 1: let me check. Usually Sundays are reserved for just like
- 5:19Speaker 1: family stuff, so I don't think I'm doing anything in particular.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Would you like to spend time with your family at
- 5:25Speaker 1: the Istana? OK, what's at the Istana? They're having an
- 5:29Speaker 1: open house. Oh, cute. OK, to mark Hari Raya and
- 5:32Speaker 1: Labor Day. So I think maybe April 19th could be
- 5:34Speaker 1: right smack in the.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Middle of Raya celebrations and we are preparing for Labor
- 5:39Speaker 1: Day come May 1st. Actually, Hari Raya celebrations will be
- 5:42Speaker 1: coming to an end soon, soon, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. there'll be a
- 5:48Speaker 1: range of cultural activities. We're talking like DK Barra. There's
- 5:53Speaker 1: choir apparently from Singapore Polytechnic as well as Punggol View Primary.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Working extra time on a Sunday. I'm sure they'll be
- 5:59Speaker 1: given an extra day off. I really hope so. I
- 6:02Speaker 1: think they will, but I'm so curious because, OK, we've
- 6:05Speaker 1: been to the Istana before and I've driven in before
- 6:09Speaker 1: to which there were very extensive security checks. OK. I'm
- 6:12Speaker 1: just curious for open houses, they don't allow public to
- 6:15Speaker 1: drive in, right? Like you have to walk in, you
- 6:17Speaker 1: have to take public transport, walk in.
- 6:19Speaker 1: And they will still do security checks, right? Yeah. You
- 6:22Speaker 1: can also pre-register for the Istana Heritage tour, OK, but
- 6:25Speaker 1: I must say this though, having been inside the Istana
- 6:29Speaker 1: grounds for a while, and I always affectionately say this,
- 6:32Speaker 1: their grass, right, perfect for football, but
- 6:35Speaker 1: But it's never gonna happen. You can play football on
- 6:37Speaker 1: the grass or maybe like, you know, wear normal shoes
- 6:40Speaker 1: and kick around a little bit? You wanna try and
- 6:43Speaker 1: find out but hang on, hang on. They say there
- 6:46Speaker 1: will be sports activities, so maybe like little ball game.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised. I'll be very surprised if it's pickleball. Yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you will be surprised, really, but I, I mean, but
- 7:00Speaker 1: they've been trying to build a lot of courts for
- 7:02Speaker 1: pickle and paddle.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And majority of Singaporeans, I think they know how to
- 7:06Speaker 1: play pickle. OK, where are we going to play pickleball
- 7:08Speaker 1: in Istana? Actually, it's quite easy to set up a
- 7:12Speaker 1: random court. It can be outdoors president's office outdoors. They
- 7:15Speaker 1: got so many outdoor areas, right? I think they can
- 7:17Speaker 1: do it. I was thinking more novelty races like your spoon.
- 7:21Speaker 1: To give a shout out to your school. Tell us
- 7:23Speaker 1: what song you want to hear, who is it going
- 7:25Speaker 1: out to, and flex your school. If I'm not wrong,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I think yesterday we had Raffles Girls Primary. Yes, we did.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Let's see what school.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Today. Yeah, good morning. Who's this? Liam from Tanjong Katong Primary.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Hello Liam from Tanjong Katong. You are so cute. Are
- 7:41Speaker 1: you in primary 2 or 3 this year? Primary 2
- 7:45Speaker 1: spot on. Liam, how has life been for you in
- 7:48Speaker 1: Tanjong Katong Primary? Are you having a good time? Are
- 7:50Speaker 1: you enjoying yourself? Sometimes stressed, but most of the time good. OK, OK. Why? Why?
- 7:56Speaker 1: Today I'm going to have my things here. OK.
- 7:59Speaker 1: OK, I understand things that can be very stressful. OK,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I wasn't the best at it. I wasn't the best,
- 8:04Speaker 1: so I feel you. Wait till you experience more. That
- 8:07Speaker 1: is worse. What is? I totally erased it from my mind.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You have to remember a passage or memorize it dictation.
- 8:13Speaker 1: You have to write it all down in your memory
- 8:15Speaker 1: based on memory. I don't remember doing that. Oh my
- 8:17Speaker 1: goodness I don't I don't think so. OK, uh, Liam,
- 8:20Speaker 1: what song can we get you today to cheer you
- 8:23Speaker 1: up and help you out with your test, and who
- 8:25Speaker 1: is it going out to.
- 8:27Speaker 1: BTS Swim by BTS and is it dedicated to anyone?
- 8:32Speaker 1: It's dedicated to all the BTS fans. Alright. OK, Liam,
- 8:38Speaker 1: we really hope to see you soon. When should we
- 8:40Speaker 1: come down to Tanjong Katong Primary, do you think? Um,
- 8:44Speaker 1: on Friday. OK, this is a standard. Yes, everyone loves Fridays. Liam,
- 8:49Speaker 1: we'll see you soon. Lots of love. OK. Take care, Liam.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Have a good day. Bye bye. Bye. Thanks. Not exactly.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Taking you to the beach. How about taking you to
- 8:57Speaker 1: Bugis Street? You know, actually that place has a lot
- 9:00Speaker 1: of memories for me because as a student, right, like
- 9:02Speaker 1: back then in secondary school and all that, when you
- 9:04Speaker 1: want to buy like affordable clothes or even knockoffs of
- 9:07Speaker 1: like bags or whatever, it's Bugis Street. So the 1st
- 9:11Speaker 1: floor and the 3rd floor, where your nail parlors are
- 9:15Speaker 1: at and some clothing shops as well, it's still doing OK. OK.
- 9:19Speaker 1: When I say OK, there's a huge inverted comma.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Surviving the 2nd floor, right? Close to 80% of tenants gone.
- 9:29Speaker 1: It's now a ghost town on the 2nd floor. OK,
- 9:32Speaker 1: I can immediately tell you why, OK. I mean, over
- 9:36Speaker 1: the years, the shopping behaviors have changed. People are more
- 9:39Speaker 1: into thrifting. We're more into like online shopping, not so
- 9:42Speaker 1: much about like the fast immediate gratification anymore because I,
- 9:46Speaker 1: I think that when it comes down to places like
- 9:48Speaker 1: Bugis Street, the unfortunate thing is,
- 9:51Speaker 1: Um, over the years, a lot of the shops started
- 9:53Speaker 1: selling the same things. Yeah, so that's the obvious reason
- 9:56Speaker 1: why so many of them shut. So Bugis Street became
- 9:59Speaker 1: the place where, for example, if you see a handphone
- 10:02Speaker 1: case going for $10 you know, somewhere down the road $8.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Walk down further, you'll see one for $7 or $8
- 10:08Speaker 1: and all that. So tenants are reporting, uh, maybe 60%
- 10:12Speaker 1: income fall, but somehow again the 1st and 3rd floor
- 10:16Speaker 1: still are surviving. Yeah, I think mainly because there's a lot.
- 10:20Speaker 1: The tourists that walk around Bugis area and you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: naturally when you enter it's first floor, so you still
- 10:25Speaker 1: get some business. So maybe it's also consumer behavior change
- 10:29Speaker 1: where most are going online to buy stuff. That's what
- 10:31Speaker 1: I meant, yeah, and thrifting, you know, it's more of
- 10:34Speaker 1: a thing now, vintage shopping because if you talk about
- 10:36Speaker 1: thrifting just down towards Hajji Lane on Elm Street, plenty
- 10:40Speaker 1: of thrift stores for you as well. There are a
- 10:41Speaker 1: lot like, and I, when I was at Hajji Lane
- 10:44Speaker 1: filming something and there were so many students, like they
- 10:47Speaker 1: kept walking by like, hey, you know, they were.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And say hi and you know, be part of the video,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but they also did mention there are a couple of
- 10:54Speaker 1: popular thrift shops along the street. So I think more
- 10:58Speaker 1: and more are popping up now. Even I'm interested to go.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And after your shopping or thrifting, go to Saba for
- 11:03Speaker 1: some nice day or like cafe hopping. I think that's
- 11:06Speaker 1: more plenty that be their thing, plenty. We got some cats,
- 11:10Speaker 1: I think proud mom moments for, for the moms that
- 11:12Speaker 1: attended their performance at Coachella. Not for you, is it?
- 11:15Speaker 1: Not for me, sorry. Coming up in just a few minutes.
- 11:18Speaker 1: An interesting one that I mentioned, um, I think it
- 11:21Speaker 1: was like at least a couple of weeks back when
- 11:24Speaker 1: you would have known that Blue SG exited Singapore or
- 11:27Speaker 1: at least we thought they exited, right? If you're wondering
- 11:29Speaker 1: what Blue SG is, it's the car sharing service. And
- 11:34Speaker 1: we used to see the SG hatchback cars everywhere, right?
- 11:37Speaker 1: They're usually charging by the side of the road or
- 11:39Speaker 1: you just see it on the road.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And again, I don't know why, but it's as if
- 11:43Speaker 1: the people who can afford to do this whole Blue
- 11:45Speaker 1: SG thing, as in the customers, right, somehow they like
- 11:49Speaker 1: to abuse the car. I know, so hopefully it changes
- 11:52Speaker 1: this time and because Blue SG has returned in Singapore
- 11:56Speaker 1: as another brand, OK.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Um, and they're about to begin testing tomorrow, 15th of April.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'll tell you more on what to expect with this
- 12:05Speaker 1: new brand and what else they're offering 987, Singapore's number
- 12:09Speaker 1: one hit music station. Thank you for joining us today. OK,
- 12:12Speaker 1: so a couple of months ago, you would have noticed
- 12:15Speaker 1: that Blue SG announced they're wrapping things up here in Singapore,
- 12:19Speaker 1: but I'm gonna choose my words carefully because they have
- 12:21Speaker 1: made a comeback this time around.
- 12:24Speaker 1: They've relaunched as a company called Flexar. So F L
- 12:27Speaker 1: E X A R. Is it one of those things where,
- 12:29Speaker 1: you know, in movie trailers by the same producers who
- 12:32Speaker 1: gave you this movie? I mean, we give you a
- 12:35Speaker 1: new one. Yeah, um, but they are new and improved,
- 12:38Speaker 1: and I think they've worked on what didn't work and
- 12:41Speaker 1: what um was successful in Blue SG and they try
- 12:44Speaker 1: to make some changes for Flexar. By any chance, did
- 12:47Speaker 1: they say what wasn't successful for Blue SG?
- 12:49Speaker 1: Um, they didn't, but I'll tell you what the new
- 12:51Speaker 1: changes are. I'm sure a lot of it is internal,
- 12:53Speaker 1: you know, the feedback and all that. They've decided not
- 12:56Speaker 1: to charge users a membership fee, firstly, which I think
- 13:00Speaker 1: is pretty cool because if in any case, anything that
- 13:03Speaker 1: requires you to rent something or um classes for Pilates
- 13:08Speaker 1: or whatever, chances are you're gonna have to go like
- 13:10Speaker 1: sign in with a membership or some sort of package, right? Yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 1: that's that's how they make money.
- 13:15Speaker 1: It also does not require users to pay a deposit.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So it's going to be a pay for what you
- 13:21Speaker 1: use kind of situation. So I noticed this for certain
- 13:24Speaker 1: like car charging points, right? There are one or two
- 13:27Speaker 1: that require you to put a deposit in the, in
- 13:29Speaker 1: the digital wallet, and then it will deduct from there.
- 13:32Speaker 1: But there's some like, you know, SP Group or whatever.
- 13:35Speaker 1: You can just tap your card as Paywave and then
- 13:37Speaker 1: you leave. So you don't have to like set up
- 13:39Speaker 1: any special account or you don't have to put a
- 13:41Speaker 1: deposit or anything. So different companies work differently and I
- 13:44Speaker 1: guess what they're doing is no deposit I mean I'm
- 13:52Speaker 1: very happy and I don't think that was the problem.
- 13:55Speaker 1: The major problem is the er customers. The problem would
- 13:59Speaker 1: be the people. So I don't know like how they're gonna,
- 14:03Speaker 1: that one, you know, is going to be tough because
- 14:05Speaker 1: it's a handful of people that really spoiled the name
- 14:08Speaker 1: of everyone, right? So, um, what, what's going to happen
- 14:11Speaker 1: is from tomorrow onwards, they're going to roll out like
- 14:13Speaker 1: almost a soft launch in a way.
- 14:15Speaker 1: And a bit of a testing phase. So what's going
- 14:17Speaker 1: to happen is in the first like 5 minutes of
- 14:20Speaker 1: your ride, I believe, um, if I'm not wrong, it's
- 14:23Speaker 1: 5 minutes. Let me just check real quick. Yeah, the
- 14:26Speaker 1: 1st 5 minutes of the rental is actually free. So
- 14:28Speaker 1: you just check it out for a test and sometimes
- 14:30Speaker 1: I guess you could drive from point A to point
- 14:32Speaker 1: B in like 3 minutes just to test it out.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I think a lot of people might do that, to
- 14:36Speaker 1: be honest. So 1st 5 minutes free.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Up until the 20th minute, um, the rental will cost
- 14:42Speaker 1: 52 cents per minute, so you can do some math. Um,
- 14:45Speaker 1: are you gonna do math? No, it's OK. The per
- 14:47Speaker 1: minute rate gets lower as your rental becomes longer. So,
- 14:51Speaker 1: after an hour, it becomes 44 cents per minute.
- 14:54Speaker 1: So depending on how long you need the car, um,
- 14:56Speaker 1: you will just pay as you go. That's the plan. OK.
- 15:03Speaker 1: So I'm just thinking in a very final destination or
- 15:04Speaker 1: in a controlled world now with AI, right? Why do
- 15:06Speaker 1: you say Final Destination? That's so morbid. If there are
- 15:08Speaker 1: some errant customers who want to go and vandalize the
- 15:11Speaker 1: car or abuse the car, right? OK, they lock you in.
- 15:15Speaker 1: You cannot leave the car. No, no, no, that one
- 15:17Speaker 1: they have safety features for that. I'm pretty sure. Good, good, good.
- 15:19Speaker 1: From what I read, I mean.
- 15:20Speaker 1: It wasn't available in this article per se, but I
- 15:23Speaker 1: do understand that for EVs now or any car sharing services,
- 15:27Speaker 1: I think they do have safety features in regards to that.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I need to applaud the bravery of the same people
- 15:32Speaker 1: who give you Blue SG because judging how Singaporeans treated
- 15:35Speaker 1: some of the old bikes and the more bikes and
- 15:37Speaker 1: all that, and even some rides not on any wheels, I, I,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I just shudder to think how they would treat the cars,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and I hope they do it well. You know what,
- 15:45Speaker 1: then I think they should.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Come up with more of like a, I don't like
- 15:49Speaker 1: to use the word punishment, but consequence kind of situation
- 15:52Speaker 1: because you have to like, I'm sure tie your name
- 15:55Speaker 1: or your, when you tap and pay and leave, there
- 15:57Speaker 1: will be a registration sort of thing where they know
- 16:00Speaker 1: who is the person that just rented this car, and
- 16:02Speaker 1: they will have to hold that person responsible if anything
- 16:04Speaker 1: were to be damaged, right? I'm, I'm sure they have
- 16:07Speaker 1: something like that, but we'll see because their full launch
- 16:09Speaker 1: is going to be rolled out later in 2026. We'll
- 16:12Speaker 1: get more reports.
- 16:13Speaker 1: For sure. So plenty of time to sort out any
- 16:15Speaker 1: teething issues. Also, it's not going to be all EV.
- 16:18Speaker 1: It'll be a mixture of some fuel and some EV. OK, yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 1: And in less than 10 minutes, you could be $8000 richer. OK,
- 16:27Speaker 1: so given how I have a board in the studio
- 16:30Speaker 1: that says popular guesses, I realized we have 8 popular guesses. Yes,
- 16:35Speaker 1: we do that you should absolutely not say anymore. So
- 16:38Speaker 1: think of it as these.
- 16:40Speaker 1: are helping you save $1000 each, OK. Clicking of a pen, typewriter, scissors, stapler,
- 16:46Speaker 1: hole puncher, signal stick, gas stove, and the clicker counter.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Don't say these already. Just cancel it out. Yeah, we
- 16:55Speaker 1: are helping you, by the way. I mean, although yes,
- 16:57Speaker 1: it's getting pretty exciting because it's the 2nd time we're
- 17:00Speaker 1: snowballing it already, we'll see how far it goes and
- 17:03Speaker 1: whether anyone will win in just less than 10 minutes.
- 17:08Speaker 1: 87 secret.
- 17:14Speaker 1: that.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Good morning 987. It's Felicia. Hi Felicia, what are you
- 17:19Speaker 1: doing today? Um, I'm on the way to work. Tell
- 17:21Speaker 1: us a bit more about yourself. What do you do
- 17:23Speaker 1: for work? I'm in healthcare. Healthcare. Well, all I can
- 17:26Speaker 1: say is thank you for doing what you do for
- 17:28Speaker 1: a living. Truly God's work, but let's give you $8000. Felicia,
- 17:32Speaker 1: you've been listening to every show. You know what not
- 17:35Speaker 1: to say, right? Yes, I do. Thank goodness. Alright, here's Sophie,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you have an original answer that might score you the 800.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Listen carefully.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Felicia, for $8000 what's your answer? Is it a metronome?
- 17:49Speaker 1: A metronome. You're locking it in? OK, let's find out.
- 17:54Speaker 1: You are incorrect. Your chance to play 987's secret sound continues.
- 18:02Speaker 1: sound.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Felicia, we are so sorry, not the answer boss Janice
- 18:07Speaker 1: is looking for, but apparently metronome has been said before.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Yeah. It may not be a commonly said answer, but
- 18:15Speaker 1: maybe someone mentioned it before. Yeah. Felicia, thank you so much.
- 18:20Speaker 1: We love your energy. Keep trying, OK? OK, thank you
- 18:22Speaker 1: so much. Have a great day. Bye bye.
- 18:26Speaker 1: One guess with this.
- 18:30Speaker 1: What's that sound? Coming up right after 8:00 a.m. we
- 18:34Speaker 1: have treats coming your way in the form of entertainment. Yes,
- 18:38Speaker 1: so if you want to go to the theaters, we
- 18:42Speaker 1: have a pair of tickets to title of show where
- 18:45Speaker 1: we interviewed Andrew Marco last week. And if you want
- 18:48Speaker 1: to go to the cinemas, how about this? A pair
- 18:51Speaker 1: of tickets to be the first in Singapore to catch Michael.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna be really cool. So either way, you're
- 18:59Speaker 1: gonna win, and we would love to open up phone
- 19:01Speaker 1: lines in just a while. National service, which is something
- 19:06Speaker 1: I will not comprehend. Every Singaporean son and should they
- 19:09Speaker 1: choose a Singaporean daughter can do it, but for Singaporean sons,
- 19:13Speaker 1: it's a must. And during my time in national service,
- 19:17Speaker 1: let me just quickly run you through what happened to me, OK?
- 19:20Speaker 1: I was aiming for officer cadet school.
- 19:29Speaker 1: You actually know that term. I do. I do for
- 19:32Speaker 1: some reason, for some reason, yeah, but guess who tore
- 19:36Speaker 1: his ACL and before my medical, I didn't go for surgery. Yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 1: so they actually, you know, during my checkup everything was A, A, A, A.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Then when I told them, oh, I have a torn ACL,
- 19:48Speaker 1: they sent me to.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Alexandra Hospital for a scan and they saw that it's
- 19:53Speaker 1: quite badly ruptured. My A became a D. Yeah, I know. Wow,
- 19:58Speaker 1: they dropped so many. So what they do is they
- 20:01Speaker 1: down you physical efficiency status. Hopefully I'm getting that right. Yeah,
- 20:05Speaker 1: you know, I never knew what PE means. Yeah, so
- 20:07Speaker 1: PE A P B. So I went to PE C2L2,
- 20:10Speaker 1: the classifications I got injury. So I went to National
- 20:13Speaker 1: Service and on my sheet here, on my profile, it says.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Excuse running, marching, and jumping. Oh wow. So basically all
- 20:21Speaker 1: the things you like to do. Yeah. So I remember this, yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 1: I thought, you know, in BMT, like once it's a
- 20:27Speaker 1: break time with the recruits, you can go for a
- 20:28Speaker 1: jog or what. I went jogging. My sergeant shouted, Oi, Gomez,
- 20:33Speaker 1: come back here. Why are you running? I said, Oh, sorry, sergeant.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I thought you can jog, you know, keep your fitness, huh?
- 20:40Speaker 1: Good lah, but cannot lah.
- 20:43Speaker 1: I guess in a way they can't be responsible if
- 20:46Speaker 1: you injure yourself again, and this is own self, you know.
- 20:51Speaker 1: And then I tore my ACL I ruptured it fully.
- 20:54Speaker 1: So when I went in there, I think it was
- 20:55Speaker 1: partially ruptured. What did you do? Honestly, the simple act
- 20:58Speaker 1: of turning, no, the simple act of turning left, my
- 21:01Speaker 1: knee gave way. But you were not, you're not marching
- 21:04Speaker 1: or walking or doing anything. My knee, just casually.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I got further downgraded to PE C9L9. Then I went
- 21:13Speaker 1: to surgery, and then they put me in the next
- 21:16Speaker 1: best place because I think then I had a little
- 21:19Speaker 1: bit of media experience already. So someone said, hey, how
- 21:21Speaker 1: about you just try the music and drama company? So
- 21:24Speaker 1: from then, everything fell into place in my life. But
- 21:27Speaker 1: there's a side to me that goes, aiya, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 1: like a wasted opportunity, especially during NDP and we go
- 21:33Speaker 1: for all these posts.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Rehearsal dinners and all that, it's cool, right? All the officers, yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I also wanted that honestly, I think I would have
- 21:42Speaker 1: enjoyed a regimental lifestyle because knowing, knowing how routine I
- 21:45Speaker 1: am and all that. I won't deny that. So here's
- 21:48Speaker 1: the thing. If, for example, you tore your ACL before
- 21:52Speaker 1: national service and you went for surgery and all that
- 21:55Speaker 1: and it's fully recovered, yeah, I'm talking with physiotherapy, full recovery, yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 1: with proper strength training and all that from 2027.
- 22:04Speaker 1: They might actually put you in combat fit units, yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 1: so now they are no longer looking at what you
- 22:10Speaker 1: can't do. They're looking at what you can do because again, I, I,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I say this very objectively. Chances are if you have
- 22:17Speaker 1: an injury back then they'll put you as a clerk or,
- 22:20Speaker 1: you know, you, you stay inside indoors and do all
- 22:23Speaker 1: the paperwork, you might still be fit. You might be
- 22:25Speaker 1: fit at that point in time, yeah, exactly. So I
- 22:27Speaker 1: think they've relooked at the entire thing and they're changing
- 22:30Speaker 1: the whole test system and all that. So yeah, the
- 22:33Speaker 1: full detail.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Details are available for you on CNA, but when I
- 22:36Speaker 1: saw torn ACL, I went, Hey, that's something I can
- 22:38Speaker 1: relate to. But again, it has to be fully recovered,
- 22:41Speaker 1: and I'm very sure, given how it's MINDEF and our
- 22:44Speaker 1: National Service people, they will be extra sure they will
- 22:46Speaker 1: properly test you before they put you in any of
- 22:49Speaker 1: these combat fit units. So, so I'm curious, was that
- 22:51Speaker 1: ACL tear like your most major injury that you had?
- 22:54Speaker 1: I think for now, yes. Yeah. Any other injuries or
- 22:58Speaker 1: I wouldn't, I wouldn't count a deviated nasal septum. No,
- 23:01Speaker 1: that one you're born with it. It's not injury. Oops.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I cannot, I think it made breathing a bit
- 23:06Speaker 1: tough for me, but yeah, I think the ACL is
- 23:08Speaker 1: something that, wow, I tell you, as a runner now,
- 23:12Speaker 1: every single knee pain that I get is PTSD. Like, oh,
- 23:15Speaker 1: is everything OK? OK, OK, stretch, can bend. Yes, good.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I've seen that. I've witnessed that in the studio, OK,
- 23:22Speaker 1: to which what happened recently, I told Joakim, I think
- 23:25Speaker 1: you better not run for now. Guess what? Guess what
- 23:28Speaker 1: he did? He ran.
- 23:29Speaker 1: And guess what happened? It got worse. That was in
- 23:31Speaker 1: November of last year. I went for my PRP procedure.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Thankfully all is OK now. Do you have any injuries?
- 23:37Speaker 1: Sprained ankle doesn't count. Um, OK, sprained ankle was very minor.
- 23:41Speaker 1: I mean, look, I, I was walking on heels in
- 23:44Speaker 1: like a week or so, so it was a minor sprain. Um,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I had a couple of injuries, but very stupid ones, OK.
- 23:50Speaker 1: So I was quite an accident prone kid, to be honest,
- 23:54Speaker 1: not because of sports or any athletic thing, OK, not
- 23:57Speaker 1: at all. Um, the first one, are you sure you
- 24:00Speaker 1: want me to tell you this? Because the injuries are
- 24:03Speaker 1: like can be kind of nasty, you know, like it's
- 24:05Speaker 1: like minor accidents that can be a bit gory. It's
- 24:08Speaker 1: how you got it, OK, fine. OK. So the first
- 24:12Speaker 1: one as a kid, ah, I was rocking my chair, OK.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I wish I could have come up with a cooler story.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I really wish I could, but my parents will remember
- 24:22Speaker 1: this one. Rocking my chair. It was one of those
- 24:25Speaker 1: rattan chairs, you know, with not much grip at the
- 24:27Speaker 1: bottom on the leg, the legs of the chairs. So yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 1: it slipped on the floor. I fell forward. My, my
- 24:37Speaker 1: chin basically slammed against the table before I hit the ground, OK.
- 24:43Speaker 1: And I slit my tongue on both sides, because your teeth,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I think it's the impact. Like your teeth went, so
- 24:49Speaker 1: at the side of the two sides of my tongue,
- 24:51Speaker 1: like the left and right, it's hard to visualize, but
- 24:54Speaker 1: It would, it was like a clean cut downwards because
- 24:56Speaker 1: of my teeth for some reason, OK. Um, I didn't
- 24:59Speaker 1: feel anything actually, to be honest, I think the tongue
- 25:02Speaker 1: is probably the place where you don't really feel much.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. I don't think so.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I don't know, but I didn't feel anything. Maybe it
- 25:08Speaker 1: was the shock of, maybe it was the shock of
- 25:11Speaker 1: it or it happened so fast, you know, um.
- 25:14Speaker 1: But when I went to the bathroom, there was like
- 25:16Speaker 1: blood coming out of my mouth. So obviously my parents panicked, right?
- 25:20Speaker 1: And then we went to see the doctor. He took
- 25:22Speaker 1: a quick look and he was like, he chuckled and
- 25:24Speaker 1: he was like, OK, lah, can't really do anything. I'll
- 25:27Speaker 1: give you some, you know, um, antiseptic medication or like
- 25:30Speaker 1: goggle and stuff, but for the most part, you just
- 25:33Speaker 1: got to shut up and let it heal. So cannot talk.
- 25:36Speaker 1: To which my parents were quite happy. I think I
- 25:38Speaker 1: didn't have to, like, you know, make so much noise
- 25:40Speaker 1: around the house. Um, that was one. second one was
- 25:43Speaker 1: really stupid as a kid as well, playing with one
- 25:45Speaker 1: of my neighbor's friends, OK. We're spinning around, you know,
- 25:49Speaker 1: you just hold each other's hands and then you like
- 25:51Speaker 1: kind of spin around. I don't know what we were
- 25:54Speaker 1: doing lah. I don't know what we were doing. Spin around,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I accidentally stepped on a rug, like a, like a
- 26:01Speaker 1: rag or a rug or something. I slipped and once
- 26:04Speaker 1: again slammed my face to the ground.
- 26:06Speaker 1: And my entire top lip swelled so badly that I
- 26:11Speaker 1: looked like I went for lip fillers, but only on
- 26:13Speaker 1: the top lip. I'm very happy to share that Sonia
- 26:16Speaker 1: is still spinning around and falling. I'm not spinning. What,
- 26:21Speaker 1: what are we talking about? Not happening, OK.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Inspired by our injury stories and how our friends over
- 26:28Speaker 1: at NS, they are now re-looking the whole entire system
- 26:31Speaker 1: on how they classify injuries and put you in, hopefully
- 26:34Speaker 1: combat fit units should you want to do it. I mean,
- 26:37Speaker 1: I don't know if you have a choice. 669-11987 or
- 26:41Speaker 1: you can WhatsApp us at 90050987.
- 26:45Speaker 1: What's the worst injury you had? Yeah, or stupidest injury.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I mean, like how did you recover from it? How
- 26:50Speaker 1: did you even get injured in the first place? Please
- 26:52Speaker 1: tell us and make me feel better. I don't want
- 26:54Speaker 1: to feel so alone because mine were kind of stupid.
- 26:57Speaker 1: At least mine was rocking on a chair and spinning around.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna come up with the coolest story for it, OK?
- 27:03Speaker 1: I'll think about it. OK. Like I fought a wild
- 27:06Speaker 1: boar or something. Wow, this is one of those.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I want to say good morning to Mohammad Iqbal on WhatsApp. Hey, Sojo,
- 27:14Speaker 1: on the topic of stupid injuries, here's mine. When I
- 27:17Speaker 1: was a kid, I was quite mischievous and very fugitive.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I was running along poolside.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I slipped and fell. Oh no, actually, OK, honestly, right,
- 27:27Speaker 1: slipping and falling by the poolside is one of my
- 27:29Speaker 1: greatest fears. It's painful. Yeah, because the grooves can be painful,
- 27:33Speaker 1: can be sharp, you know, like, wah, yeah. So according
- 27:36Speaker 1: to Iqbal, he dislocated his shoulder, my God, which occasionally
- 27:40Speaker 1: now I can still feel the pop. Actually it's funny
- 27:43Speaker 1: because um
- 27:44Speaker 1: Just ran into a couple of friends whom I've not
- 27:47Speaker 1: seen in a long time. They're industry friends and um
- 27:50Speaker 1: they're a little bit older, so they've got children who
- 27:52Speaker 1: are like running around already, right? And uh one of
- 27:55Speaker 1: them actually said he sustained a really silly injury. He's
- 28:00Speaker 1: quite a, I guess, enthusiastic when it comes to sports, OK,
- 28:03Speaker 1: so he likes doing a lot of different sports. But
- 28:05Speaker 1: what he did was he was trying to teach his
- 28:07Speaker 1: daughter how to skateboard, OK? And so he tried to
- 28:11Speaker 1: show an example of like what to do or what
- 28:13Speaker 1: not to do on a skateboard.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Instead of achieving what he wanted to set out to do,
- 28:17Speaker 1: what he set out to do, he slipped, fell, broke
- 28:20Speaker 1: his ankle in both places and had to go for surgery.
- 28:25Speaker 1: To which I think he's in the process of trying
- 28:27Speaker 1: to find a cooler reason to why he has a
- 28:30Speaker 1: walking stick. Both of us just saw him a few
- 28:31Speaker 1: days ago, yeah, we heard this story in real time. Anyway,
- 28:35Speaker 1: more texts coming in. Want to say hello. Let me
- 28:38Speaker 1: just see who we have here. Wanna say hello to, oh, hey,
- 28:42Speaker 1: he says morning, So Kim. Unlike Sonia, was injury prone
- 28:45Speaker 1: when I was young. There was one time I was playing,
- 28:48Speaker 1: the floor is.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Jumping from chair to chair. When I jumped to a chair,
- 28:53Speaker 1: the chair suddenly gave way, and I came crashing down,
- 28:55Speaker 1: landed on my arm, I thought I was OK because
- 28:57Speaker 1: I looked at my palm and it was alright. My
- 28:59Speaker 1: mom was frightened. Turned out, turns out my elbow was
- 29:02Speaker 1: twisted beyond recognition. Recovery took a while. I had to
- 29:05Speaker 1: learn how to write using my left hand, my non-master hand.
- 29:09Speaker 1: It's a pretty cool party trick, you know, then you
- 29:10Speaker 1: become like, um, what do you call it, ambidextrous, yeah.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Keep the calls coming in over at 669-11987 or you
- 29:20Speaker 1: can WhatsApp us at 90050987. What's the, how, how would
- 29:25Speaker 1: you say this? What's the stupidest way you've gotten injured?
- 29:28Speaker 1: What's the worst injury you've ever gotten before? Yeah, it
- 29:30Speaker 1: could be a silly injury. Yeah, we can brainstorm about
- 29:33Speaker 1: how to make it sound cooler. No, it's OK. Give
- 29:36Speaker 1: us a call 669-11987. OK, back to our messages first
- 29:40Speaker 1: before we get.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Grace who's hanging on the line. So again, inspired by
- 29:43Speaker 1: whatever our friends in the NS section of Singapore are
- 29:47Speaker 1: doing when it comes to looking at your injuries and
- 29:50Speaker 1: see what you're more fit to do as compared to
- 29:53Speaker 1: unfit to do. They're going to reclassify the whole thing.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Full details available for you on Channel News Asia.
- 29:59Speaker 1: So inspired by that, we're asking you for stories of injuries. Yeah,
- 30:02Speaker 1: it can be silly injuries. It can be serious injuries
- 30:05Speaker 1: that you recovered from as well, but we're heading back
- 30:07Speaker 1: to our messages first. Wanna say good morning to on WhatsApp. Morning, Sojo.
- 30:14Speaker 1: There was a time when I was training for IPP.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And might I add on that the window for the
- 30:19Speaker 1: IPPT was ending, so I was always careful during training.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Guess what? On the IPP, IPPT day at Bedok FCC,
- 30:28Speaker 1: I tripped over my own leg while walking and sprained
- 30:31Speaker 1: my ankle and wrist, GG.
- 30:34Speaker 1: That sounds like something I would do, to be honest.
- 30:37Speaker 1: And unfortunately, I guess 500 bucks for you that I
- 30:40Speaker 1: guess not. So what happens, you just don't take it
- 30:43Speaker 1: and then they just sign it off as an injury. OK.
- 30:46Speaker 1: We got a message coming in from what a fantastic username, tall,
- 30:49Speaker 1: dark and handsome.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I have a couple of single friends. It's, it's not me,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I promise. Joe. Funniest injury, I reached East Coast Park
- 30:58Speaker 1: at 8:30 and I was on the way to the
- 31:00Speaker 1: hospital at 8:40. What, what happened? I reached the park,
- 31:04Speaker 1: grabbed the football, and ran to the beach. A friend
- 31:07Speaker 1: of the family passed the ball to me nice and
- 31:09Speaker 1: high in the air, and I tried to do a
- 31:11Speaker 1: bicycle kick. Oh no, following Sundram Murthy here in Singapore.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I landed on my elbow and dislocated my elbow. I
- 31:19Speaker 1: told my dad I don't.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I want to go to the hospital because next week
- 31:22Speaker 1: was my inter-school games and I was the goalkeeper. Oh,
- 31:25Speaker 1: where you use your hands more than your legs. Let
- 31:27Speaker 1: me guess, no choice, right? Yeah, I returned to school
- 31:29Speaker 1: the next year and got scolding from my friends, and
- 31:31Speaker 1: the next few weeks they lost all their games by
- 31:33Speaker 1: more than 7 goals, as the reserve keeper cannot make it. Well,
- 31:38Speaker 1: hang on, I met my football teacher 30 years later,
- 31:41Speaker 1: and the first thing he said was, You are the
- 31:43Speaker 1: fellow who broke his hand 1 week before the tournament, huh?
- 31:46Speaker 1: You are the fellow. This is a classic kind of example, right,
- 31:49Speaker 1: where
- 31:50Speaker 1: You know, just before an important tournament or game, one
- 31:54Speaker 1: should not do stupid things, right?
- 31:57Speaker 1: I mean, look, I think we all can agree, we've
- 31:59Speaker 1: all experienced this before, and it's like those stories where
- 32:02Speaker 1: you read those professional athletes, right, where they protect themselves
- 32:05Speaker 1: and they're so good at what they do, but they
- 32:07Speaker 1: get injured doing something else. Yeah, yeah, and not their sport,
- 32:09Speaker 1: they get injured doing something else. There are some footballers, right,
- 32:12Speaker 1: their trainings are so intense they can survive that, but
- 32:16Speaker 1: at home with their children, they cannot survive. Yeah, exactly. Yeah,
- 32:18Speaker 1: I think it happens. Yeah, and joking with you. Thanks
- 32:21Speaker 1: for joining us this morning.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Talking about injuries that you've sustained could be serious ones
- 32:26Speaker 1: where hopefully you've recovered, or it could be silly ones
- 32:29Speaker 1: just like me where I was quite accident prone and
- 32:31Speaker 1: I wish I had a cooler story to how I
- 32:33Speaker 1: sustained that injury. I love how your involves spinning around
- 32:37Speaker 1: with a friend and you fell. I fell, I slipped
- 32:40Speaker 1: on a rag on the floor and smashed my my
- 32:43Speaker 1: mouth area to the ground, which you're still doing that. No,
- 32:46Speaker 1: I'm not. You're still spinning and you falling me?
- 32:49Speaker 1: That's only when I'm having a meltdown, OK? No, never mind,
- 32:52Speaker 1: I won't bring back memories.
- 32:56Speaker 1: I actually forgot about that. I want to say good
- 32:58Speaker 1: morning to user name Yolo on WhatsApp. Morning guys. Back
- 33:01Speaker 1: in secondary one, I went roller skating with classmates. We
- 33:05Speaker 1: were all first-timers with no prior attempts. I was doing
- 33:10Speaker 1: slightly better than the rest, and they all praised.
- 33:12Speaker 1: wow, you're a pro. Needless to say, they got into
- 33:16Speaker 1: my heart and head. I attempted to do just on
- 33:18Speaker 1: one leg. Oh no. I fell and broke my arm
- 33:22Speaker 1: with a badly bruised kneecap, went home and lied to
- 33:25Speaker 1: my mom that I fell from the stairs before she
- 33:27Speaker 1: sent me to A&E.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Dude, this is, would you say this is asking for
- 33:33Speaker 1: it when you get injured as a kid, right, and
- 33:37Speaker 1: you're not in the vicinity of your parents, the people
- 33:39Speaker 1: that you fear most to tell about the injury are
- 33:41Speaker 1: your parents, of course, of course, who are they blame you.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Why do you think I was scared? Nothing has changed, OK?
- 33:49Speaker 1: I was scared to tell my folks I sprained my
- 33:51Speaker 1: ankle playing paddle those weeks ago, to which when I
- 33:53Speaker 1: posted the IGS, so many of my followers said it's
- 33:56Speaker 1: an Asian thing. I'm also like that. Can I ask,
- 33:59Speaker 1: are your parents the kind of parents that will go, ah?
- 34:02Speaker 1: Good. What do you do? Deserve it. What do you do? No,
- 34:06Speaker 1: actually they were quite nice about it, although they did say,
- 34:08Speaker 1: I see, I told you don't play peddle already. Typical
- 34:11Speaker 1: mom and dad. When I was a kid, right, whenever
- 34:13Speaker 1: I sprained my ankle or whatsoever, my mom has these
- 34:16Speaker 1: two classic words. She would look at me, stupid you.
- 34:22Speaker 1: First, we would love for you to grab some tickets
- 34:24Speaker 1: to catch Michael. I'll be the first ones in Singapore.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Um, to really see this entire, would you call it
- 34:29Speaker 1: like a biopic almost? Um it's, I mean, it's a
- 34:34Speaker 1: drama in a way, right? Yeah. Judging from the trailers
- 34:37Speaker 1: and all that, it could be the early days of
- 34:41Speaker 1: Michael's career, maybe till at least the early 80s or
- 34:45Speaker 1: mid 80s. And we're talking about Michael Jackson, by the way,
- 34:47Speaker 1: just in case you're curious. Tan. You know why, you
- 34:50Speaker 1: don't think Michael Tan can make a movie?
- 34:53Speaker 1: Anyway, we are back to messages here talking about how
- 34:57Speaker 1: I think um over in NS, correct me if I'm wrong,
- 35:00Speaker 1: but certain rules are changing in regards to injuries. So
- 35:04Speaker 1: if you fully recover from an injury, let's say you've
- 35:06Speaker 1: done surgery and they do the test and you pass,
- 35:08Speaker 1: before enlisting, yeah, before enlisting, they may still allow you
- 35:12Speaker 1: to um be in a certain test. So maybe like
- 35:14Speaker 1: a torn ACL or maybe a torn.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Shoulder or something, if you're fully recovered, they might put
- 35:19Speaker 1: you in combat fit units depending of course on your
- 35:22Speaker 1: medical reports and all that versus in the past when
- 35:27Speaker 1: Joakim was talking about his previously they actually immediately canceled
- 35:29Speaker 1: you from like from combat unit. So if you're in
- 35:33Speaker 1: C2 or C9 back then you would know what this is.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Chances are you might not get combat fit units.
- 35:40Speaker 1: OK, but on that note, it inspired us to ask
- 35:42Speaker 1: you about the injuries that you sustained before. If they
- 35:45Speaker 1: were serious, we hope you've recovered, but were there also
- 35:48Speaker 1: silly injuries? That one I contributed a few stories. I
- 35:51Speaker 1: say good morning to Jerome on WhatsApp. Morning. This happened
- 35:55Speaker 1: when I was young, trying to learn new tricks on
- 35:57Speaker 1: my BMX bike. Oh no. And unfortunately, I landed the
- 36:01Speaker 1: wrong way. I sprained both my ankles.
- 36:04Speaker 1: went home limping and once my mother saw it, she
- 36:06Speaker 1: immediately threw the bike and gave me an umbrella, telling
- 36:08Speaker 1: me to walk myself to the TCM. My sister and
- 36:12Speaker 1: schoolmates laughed at me walking like a crab, but after
- 36:14Speaker 1: a year, I saved enough and I got myself another bike.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Of course. Hopefully not another injury. No, I think you
- 36:21Speaker 1: learn from those things, right? Like I always wondered whether
- 36:23Speaker 1: if people get serious injuries from doing a certain sport.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Does it give you a phobia of that sport, you know, no,
- 36:30Speaker 1: it doesn't. You just love it so much you go back. OK, OK,
- 36:33Speaker 1: so for, after tearing my ACL, I realized for the
- 36:36Speaker 1: first two months upon returning to football, whenever someone slides
- 36:40Speaker 1: with the ball, I'm get PTSD. So you just let
- 36:43Speaker 1: the ball go. So it matures you as a person. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Wanna say hello to Christina who says, Morning, Sojo. One
- 36:51Speaker 1: injury that I'll never forget is my dog biting off.
- 36:54Speaker 1: My toenail. What? Listen, it was many years ago and
- 36:58Speaker 1: I was sweeping the floor. My old and blind dog
- 37:01Speaker 1: was lying on the floor, and I thought she felt
- 37:04Speaker 1: threatened and started biting, and she got my foot. I
- 37:07Speaker 1: pulled my foot from her and I saw a piece
- 37:09Speaker 1: of red flying out. I still walked to the kitchen
- 37:12Speaker 1: and realized that piece of red was my whole toenail
- 37:15Speaker 1: that just had a fresh red pedicure. What's worse, my
- 37:19Speaker 1: whole nail bled. It was missing and my mom said
- 37:22Speaker 1: she had.
- 37:23Speaker 1: The thing to stop the bleeding and she poured a
- 37:25Speaker 1: whole lot of sugar, sugar on my open wound. Why?
- 37:30Speaker 1: Why sugar? I think she's supposed to put salt.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And not sugar. OK, how about don't put either one
- 37:34Speaker 1: of those. Like I think you need medical attention. So
- 37:37Speaker 1: Christina says, safe to say it continued bleeding. Do you
- 37:40Speaker 1: want to see pictures? No, I'm good. It's OK, Christina. My,
- 37:43Speaker 1: my toenail actually came off before, you know this story, um,
- 37:46Speaker 1: because I, wait, you don't know this story? So I
- 37:49Speaker 1: wore like open-toed heels to party and my friend, same
- 37:53Speaker 1: friend stepped on it like twice by accident because we're
- 37:56Speaker 1: always standing so close to each other.
- 37:57Speaker 1: And on the 2nd time when she stepped, I think
- 38:00Speaker 1: the whole, it was a small toenail like the middle toe,
- 38:03Speaker 1: and it fell out. It took like 6 months or
- 38:06Speaker 1: so to like grow back, you know.
- 38:08Speaker 1: It was pretty painful. In that moment, I didn't register,
- 38:11Speaker 1: but when I went home and the next morning when
- 38:13Speaker 1: everything subsided, I was like, yep, it hurts.
- 38:17Speaker 1: accident prone like you, I, I, I could walk and
- 38:19Speaker 1: kick my leg anywhere.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Hey, don't punch me up in there, OK? I don't
- 38:24Speaker 1: injure myself that easily.
- 38:27Speaker 1: OK, but the most memorable, but wow, painful one is, uh,
- 38:30Speaker 1: when I was about 7, so it was uh CNY
- 38:33Speaker 1: spring cleaning, and then everybody's involved except the kids. It's
- 38:36Speaker 1: actually very fun. So they clear up, clear up the
- 38:39Speaker 1: whole room, the living room and everything. There is no
- 38:41Speaker 1: furniture on the floor, and then they will do spring cleaning.
- 38:44Speaker 1: The only place we could all sit on was to
- 38:47Speaker 1: everybody climb onto the dining table.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Here we go, here we go. So, um, most of them,
- 38:53Speaker 1: most of my cousins and my, my brothers have all
- 38:55Speaker 1: gone up. Um, I was quite shocked, so I tried
- 38:58Speaker 1: to lift my, my butt up, you know, your hands
- 39:00Speaker 1: on the floor, but I forgot my hands were wet.
- 39:04Speaker 1: So I, I lift up and I slipped, so I
- 39:07Speaker 1: fell like endlessly on the floor, hit my chin, uh.
- 39:13Speaker 1: I forgot to cry. I was looking everywhere like what happened?
- 39:16Speaker 1: Everyonebody was looking at me and like, what happened? What happened?
- 39:19Speaker 1: And oh, next thing is I, I bawled my eyes
- 39:22Speaker 1: out and my blood was dripping on my mouth and everything. Yeah,
- 39:26Speaker 1: you know what, girl, I had the exact same injury,
- 39:28Speaker 1: the tongue, the cutting of my tongue thing because I
- 39:31Speaker 1: fell on my face. So Grace, were you told to
- 39:34Speaker 1: keep quiet for a while to recover?
- 39:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I definitely do. I definitely do. Basically, there's
- 39:40Speaker 1: nothing much they can do because they can't, it's pointless
- 39:42Speaker 1: to like stitch your tongue. I mean, that doesn't make
- 39:45Speaker 1: any sense. It heals quite quickly, to be honest. So yeah,
- 39:48Speaker 1: thank you so much for your call. Only because we
- 39:51Speaker 1: played a song from To Korean and all that. I
- 39:54Speaker 1: got some news for you right here on our show,
- 39:57Speaker 1: and this one.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Involves something that's raved about here in Singapore and I
- 40:02Speaker 1: tried it by accident yesterday by some stroke of good
- 40:04Speaker 1: fortune by accident. Yeah, I was able to walk past
- 40:06Speaker 1: the store and I went, Hey, there's no queue. Wait,
- 40:09Speaker 1: so it's a place that usually has queues. They have
- 40:12Speaker 1: one over at Mandarin Gallery and one quite near Amoi Street.
- 40:17Speaker 1: It's Korean. Think about it.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Is it Tofuji? No, that's the ice cream. Ice cream. Oh,
- 40:23Speaker 1: it's savory. It's beside Tofuji. I don't know. OK, you
- 40:26Speaker 1: gotta tell me what it is. If you love your
- 40:28Speaker 1: sams on my street, yes, it was always so crowded. Modu.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Let me give you my honest feedback and review in
- 40:36Speaker 1: just a while here on the shock circuit. Dude, you
- 40:38Speaker 1: tried it without me. I'm kind of offended. Hello, without me, OK,
- 40:41Speaker 1: please stop it. That was, do I need to explain
- 40:43Speaker 1: why I had never mind, you know what, I won't
- 40:45Speaker 1: get into it.
- 40:49Speaker 1: It's Lizzo. Don't Make Me Love You right here on 987,
- 40:52Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station. Thank you so much
- 40:54Speaker 1: for joining us here today. We do have the students
- 40:57Speaker 1: from SGII joining us in the studio today. They're actually
- 41:00Speaker 1: just chilling out, taking a look at how we do
- 41:02Speaker 1: things here, and now they're in a small discussion for
- 41:05Speaker 1: a talk set that we're gonna get them to do
- 41:07Speaker 1: in just a while. But before that, something that you
- 41:09Speaker 1: tried yesterday that you didn't bring me along for. So
- 41:12Speaker 1: let me sing.
- 41:13Speaker 1: jingle. 123, food news, food news. Hey, it's joking with
- 41:18Speaker 1: the good food news. This time it's you. OK, so
- 41:21Speaker 1: this was raved about. It's over at Mandarin Gallery and
- 41:25Speaker 1: at Amoi Street, like quite near the tacos place. Yes,
- 41:29Speaker 1: so the moment you told me the locations, I kind
- 41:32Speaker 1: of knew which one you're talking about already. It's Korean.
- 41:35Speaker 1: It's just past Flying Squirrel.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Uh, Modu, some tang and all that super long queues
- 41:40Speaker 1: at Ang my street sometimes. Every time I go to
- 41:43Speaker 1: Mandarin gallery and walk past that place before going to
- 41:46Speaker 1: Wild Honey or Blue Label, two of my favorite spots, right,
- 41:48Speaker 1: I'll see snaking queues, and I've always stared at the
- 41:52Speaker 1: menu saying, Oh, it's Samia Tang. OK, can. But because,
- 41:55Speaker 1: you know, I mean, everyone thinks that, oh, your mom's
- 41:57Speaker 1: cooking will be better. Does she cook sambia?
- 42:00Speaker 1: She can, she can. It takes time though, right? OK, yeah,
- 42:03Speaker 1: so here's the thing. Yesterday I was walking past it
- 42:06Speaker 1: and I realized, hey, there's no queue. Like around maybe
- 42:10Speaker 1: say 2 p.m. walked in and I tried the spicy
- 42:14Speaker 1: herbal broth. Sounds good. It was very good. OK, so
- 42:18Speaker 1: you would say I was perspiring to the point where
- 42:21Speaker 1: I was perspiring inside the restaurant.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Um, the appetizer was very nice, and you must try
- 42:27Speaker 1: the mung bean pancake. So you would say it's worth
- 42:30Speaker 1: the rave. It's worth the hype. Yeah, OK. And, and
- 42:33Speaker 1: for the, uh, tea, I forgot what it was called.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Is it like a Korean rice tea kind of thing
- 42:39Speaker 1: a little bit, but it's it's tea leaves. I forgot
- 42:43Speaker 1: which one it's called something.
- 42:44Speaker 1: It's very good and they also say the perilous seed broth.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I love that. That's the one you should try as well. OK,
- 42:51Speaker 1: so you would say 100% worth your time and money.
- 42:54Speaker 1: It was, but here's the thing, which is I'm a
- 42:57Speaker 1: lazy eater. So, so when I saw the entire chicken
- 43:01Speaker 1: in my bowl, oh, you have to like cut it
- 43:03Speaker 1: up yourself and like.
- 43:06Speaker 1: It's such a first world problem, Joe. Get it together.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I know. But Joakim has exited the studio. I'm about
- 43:13Speaker 1: to go get some coffee. So in just a bit,
- 43:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave the studio to the SGII kids to
- 43:18Speaker 1: take over. Are you girls OK with that? Yes, yes. OK,
- 43:23Speaker 1: please watch them. I hope that I can trust them.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Let's see what happens. Hey,
- 43:27Speaker 2: this is Lucy, and I'm here today with a couple
- 43:30Speaker 2: of my friends.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Friends. Hi, I'm Aya and we're from SGI International in
- 43:34Speaker 2: 8th grade. One thing I really like about our school
- 43:37Speaker 2: is we have aircon and we have these 5 minute
- 43:40Speaker 2: nap periods that they like to call transition to get
- 43:44Speaker 2: to your next class, but we all know it's for sleeping.
- 43:47Speaker 2: And another thing I like about my school is the
- 43:49Speaker 2: canteen food.
- 43:50Speaker 2: The queue was totally not very long and um I
- 43:54Speaker 2: like I enjoy spending time with my friends and today
- 43:57Speaker 2: we're really excited to be here at the 987 studio
- 44:00Speaker 2: and this is a really wonderful experience here. And my
- 44:03Speaker 2: other friends here are Elizabeth and Alina. Coming up next,
- 44:07Speaker 2: we have Taylor Swift with 22 on 987.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Now, before we wrap things up here, we just want
- 44:14Speaker 1: to say, uh, you must have seen this piece of
- 44:17Speaker 1: news out there already. I think several agencies actually posted
- 44:20Speaker 1: it just yesterday. I want to send a lot of
- 44:23Speaker 1: love to our personal friends, Eugene and Sophie.
- 44:26Speaker 1: You would recognize Eugene as the guy who has run
- 44:29Speaker 1: many marathons. Unfortunately, he passed away a few days ago
- 44:33Speaker 1: after a long battle with cancer. He fought super hard.
- 44:36Speaker 1: He was super brave, and because they're my personal friends,
- 44:39Speaker 1: and I've known Sophie and Eugene for a very long time.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Um, today is his funeral. We just want to say
- 44:45Speaker 1: lots of love to the family, to the friends celebrating
- 44:48Speaker 1: the life of a legend. Likewise for Sonia and I,
- 44:50Speaker 1: I think we've known Eugene for quite a while, and
- 44:52Speaker 1: we belong to the bunch of people that have seen
- 44:55Speaker 1: him through everything through his, uh, Studio 155 days. He
- 44:59Speaker 1: was still there. He was still working there and for
- 45:01Speaker 1: yours truly playing football.
- 45:03Speaker 1: with him every Tuesday night since 2015 and running with
- 45:06Speaker 1: him as well. For me, it's quite the opposite at
- 45:08Speaker 1: Marquee all the time. This guy is everywhere. He really
- 45:13Speaker 1: is the genuine example of someone who lived life to
- 45:16Speaker 1: the fullest. And this is why loads of people love
- 45:19Speaker 1: him and on social media, no one has anything bad
- 45:22Speaker 1: to say about him.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Little bit of tears, but also a lot of joy.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I think that's how he would have wanted to be
- 45:27Speaker 1: sent out. So, um, love you, Eugene, love you, Sophie.
- 45:30Speaker 1: We are with you every step of the way. I
- 45:32Speaker 1: heard they actually tune in to us almost every morning
- 45:34Speaker 1: during that period of time. So, gonna give you this one, Eugene.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Bruno Mars, 24K magic. It's 987. Thank you so much
- 45:41Speaker 1: for joining us here today and to the students from
- 45:43Speaker 1: SGI International. Thanks for being here as well. It was
- 45:46Speaker 1: so much fun. Tomorrow we have something special for you.
