- 0:06Hello, What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10It's just like life, isn't it? There's no do overs, no welcome
- 0:15to Watch Your Least favorite Scary Movie, The podcast where
- 0:17we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly, and the absurd, and
- 0:20all of our favorites and least favorite.
- 0:22Scary movies because we believe every horror movie rightfully
- 0:24has its fan base. Even if we don't always get it.
- 0:27My name is Travis. My name's Jesse.
- 0:29And welcome back, everybody. Yeah, we have a depressing
- 0:34episode. Yeah, this week.
- 0:36But don't worry, we have plenty to talk about with it and have
- 0:40some fun with it too. Look, we got Dark Subject, we
- 0:44got Ricky, we got Sasha grey, we got Jeffrey Combs, Brittany
- 0:47Snow. We got a good fun cast here, but
- 0:49we got Crab Man. But depressing material either
- 0:53way, you guys asked for it. This is our Patreon.
- 0:55Patreon, our Patreon pick. So.
- 0:59Yeah, thanks to our budget tier patrons for voting for this.
- 1:04And that's for the last time. It was the budget tier only
- 1:06'cause now bug Ted tier can also vote.
- 1:09So. Make sure that you follow the
- 1:11link in our show notes and find the little little blue URL
- 1:16that'll take you to our Patreon. And if you so choose, you can
- 1:19sign up to be a 1/3 or $6 patron with different perks associated
- 1:24therewith. Yeah, I unfortunately don't have
- 1:27any poll results. Listen, when we normally would
- 1:30have posted our polls, we were at our very first Comic Con and
- 1:34it was a lot of fun. There was 0 cell service.
- 1:39It was hard enough for us to get out our call for reviews.
- 1:41It felt like it was directed mostly towards you for some.
- 1:45Reason I couldn't, Yeah, it took like.
- 1:48I'm not. I'm not joking when I tried.
- 1:51When I say that I tried to post my Buffy cosplay about 20 times
- 1:55to Twitter, it just wouldn't go through.
- 1:57I don't know. I think every, like the universe
- 2:00was like in notice that everybody was impressed with
- 2:03your phone. Yeah.
- 2:05And then there's like, you know what?
- 2:06She's got a little bit too much over there.
- 2:07We gotta take something from her.
- 2:08Yeah, I'm so glad. So we finally got new phones
- 2:12about two months ago or so. Yeah, and I got the razor, cuz I
- 2:17never had one as a child. So I got the the new Razor Plus,
- 2:22and it's got a little front screen, and when you take
- 2:26pictures with it, it'll actually give you the preview of the
- 2:28picture if somebody else is holding the phone.
- 2:30So every time we're taking a picture, the person will go,
- 2:33whoa, wait, I can see myself. So you know Motorola.
- 2:38Feel free to sponsor us if you see a, say, a burst in your a
- 2:43spike in your razor sales. We're not sponsored by them, but
- 2:46we might as well have been, because I remember you told so
- 2:48many people yesterday, It's Razor.
- 2:50Yeah, they were like, what is? This.
- 2:52I was like a sunny razor. It's like they would come over
- 2:55like, whoa, what is that? Krillin had the most fun with
- 2:58it. Yeah.
- 2:58So he was doing this thing where he was like having everybody,
- 3:00like, zoom up to their phones and it still caught us off
- 3:03guard. I mean, then we watched three
- 3:04people in front of us do it. Yeah, but he had the most fun
- 3:08with it, 'cause he could see his own face.
- 3:09He was like that would. Be great for movies.
- 3:13Yeah, it was cool. It's a good time.
- 3:14Yeah. We had a lot of fun, but it does
- 3:16unfortunately mean that we don't have a poll.
- 3:17Yeah, I'm sorry about that guys. That's my that's my fuck up.
- 3:20I will take full responsibility. So that's that announcement.
- 3:24Do we have any other announcements?
- 3:26I don't. Think so.
- 3:28I don't. Think we do either?
- 3:29Actually. Yeah, well then, how about we
- 3:31get into Would you rather, Would you rather we get into would you
- 3:35rather? What's my other option?
- 3:37That, or continue talking about Comic Con.
- 3:41Tough choice. You got 15 seconds.
- 3:45Now let's go ahead. Let's get into the movie.
- 3:46Let's get into the. Movie, Yeah, OK.
- 3:48We posted a lot about Comic Con on our social media, so if you
- 3:52wanna see our pictures from that and ask those questions there,
- 3:54please do so. We're very We've already been
- 3:57answering some questions that people had about the people we
- 3:59met, OK? So would you rather early State,
- 4:03October 14th, 2012, it premiered at Scream Fest.
- 4:07This is an IFC film by the. Way, Yeah.
- 4:11What's it called? IFC, IFC channel.
- 4:13IFC channel? Yeah.
- 4:14So I think they are. Really.
- 4:16Producer. Yeah.
- 4:17International Film. Channel.
- 4:20No, it can't be channel because it's at IFC channel.
- 4:22That would be International Film Channel Channel.
- 4:25But maybe it is like people do that shit all the time.
- 4:28We're we're Googling this shit. Go ahead, keep talking.
- 4:31Vamp away. OK.
- 4:33Well, it premiered there and it had, it's at wide release
- 4:36January 18th, 2013. That's when it premiered on DVD.
- 4:40We watched it on Hulu, but if you wanted to watch it anywhere
- 4:44else, you can currently watch it on Hulu, AMC Plus 2B, or you
- 4:48have to rent it. They're the wrong ones.
- 4:51It's not IFC channel, it's just IFC.
- 4:54It's just IFC. Yeah.
- 4:55So it does stand for channel. Yes.
- 4:57It's got OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:58It is independent, no independent film channel.
- 5:02Independent film channel. Yeah, where you can see all the
- 5:04truck trucks for your heart. Desires.
- 5:09OK, so yeah, you can rent it on Amazon, Apple, YouTube, it's all
- 5:12for like $3. We have been made aware recently
- 5:15though, if you watch things on tubing they may be cutting
- 5:18certain parts of the content, so I don't know.
- 5:24It's select movies from what all I've seen.
- 5:27Yeah, the way things are going with Tubi, who knows what the
- 5:30fate of our monthly bonus episode will be going forward?
- 5:35Yeah, we, we might have to like, change the name of it or
- 5:38something. So I think it's still important
- 5:39for us to look at those free streaming channels for folks
- 5:41that I agree don't have the same access.
- 5:45But Tubi's fucking up, so yeah, let's see if the backlash pays.
- 5:48Off sexy new logo or no it's not.
- 5:50That sexy. It's purple, Travis I.
- 5:53Would dare you Purple and yellow.
- 5:54Good colors. It's royal royalty.
- 5:57All right. Written by OK, I'm going to fuck
- 6:00this up probably. We practice it.
- 6:02You can do we practice it. But I'm still.
- 6:04So it's this man. OK?
- 6:06Has a very intimidating last name just from the amount of
- 6:09letters in it. OK.
- 6:10It's Stefan Schwartenhoffen. Schockedenhoffen.
- 6:15Schockedenhoffen, Schockedenhoffen.
- 6:17There you go. Schockedenhoffen there.
- 6:18We go, OK? Hey, listen, I told.
- 6:20You we we've. Watched and discussed Boomer
- 6:22Cleef on multiple occasions. We've watched it once, but
- 6:28we've. Discussed it on multiple
- 6:29occasions is what I was saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:31Yeah, yeah. So you can say Schockedenhoffen.
- 6:34Schuckenhoffen, Directed by David Guy Levy Music by Daniel
- 6:41Hurt and Barty Johanneson, and special effects make up by Chris
- 6:44Bear and Josh Russell. OK, cast on this, we have
- 6:49stacked. Cast man.
- 6:50It really is sneaky stacked cast here.
- 6:52So leading it off, we have Brittany Snow who is playing
- 6:55Iris, Jeffrey Combs as Shepard Lambrick, Johnny Coin as OK, let
- 7:02me already do that one that. Was that's like a ten letter
- 7:05name. You can do that one.
- 7:10It's spelled weird. OK, come on, now.
- 7:12Look, I even I I started writing Johnny one way, and then I saw
- 7:15it was just not the right way. So I was like, God damn it, I'm
- 7:18off to a bad start already. All right, Johnny Coyne plays
- 7:21Bevins, and we're God damn it. This name again?
- 7:27Go Koch GJ. OK, AJ.
- 7:35Go chick. Go I'm trying my best people.
- 7:40I I probably should have looked some of these.
- 7:42Jokage. Jokage.
- 7:44That's. What I would go with, yeah.
- 7:46All right Inver Jokage as Lucas, Sasha Grey as Amy, Rob Wells as
- 7:51Peter, Eddie Steeples as Cow, Charlie Hofheimer as Travis,
- 7:56John Herd as Conway, June Squibb as Linda, Robin, Lord Taylor as
- 8:02Julian and Logan Miller as Raleigh.
- 8:05Riley. Riley.
- 8:06God damn it. I'm just terrible with names
- 8:08today. I'm sorry.
- 8:09I'm sorry, what's the name of Rob Wells character?
- 8:12Peter Bite. There you go.
- 8:14Bite, Bite or Ricky. I just call him Ricky.
- 8:17He is Ricky. He is Ricky in this movie, like
- 8:21100%. He is the most articulate
- 8:25version of Ricky, but he's still Ricky.
- 8:26He still has Ricky as he's my. Favorite Duggan's.
- 8:32OK, unfortunately I don't have a lot of stuff here, but let's go
- 8:37ahead and get into our budget or bug Ted.
- 8:39OK, Budget. Too late.
- 8:42You did it. I.
- 8:43Fucked it up, man. I'm sorry.
- 8:44I'm. Fine, go ahead.
- 8:46I'm gonna say it's a bug, Ted. Let's still do our chant.
- 8:48We gotta do our chant. Budget or come on.
- 8:53All right, This is falling apart.
- 8:55This is going bad. All right?
- 8:56I promise. I'm gonna be.
- 8:58I'm gonna get everything right going forward.
- 9:00OK. I'm sorry.
- 9:01Yeah. I don't have budget information
- 9:02on this. I don't have box office
- 9:03information, and I don't have much else other than that.
- 9:08It's. Made by the Independent Film
- 9:09Channel. I think it's safe to assume that
- 9:11it's. I think it's Bug Ted, but I
- 9:13think it's on the upper end of Bug Ted just based on some of
- 9:15the names they. Have no.
- 9:16I've got some like just a few things about the budget
- 9:20constraints and the fun facts. So it definitely is bug Ted, but
- 9:24I do have the IMDb score and that is 5.7 of Tim.
- 9:28Hella rude. I'm I was kind of surprised
- 9:30about that myself. I'm yeah, especially like online
- 9:34we've seen nothing but love for it.
- 9:36So I'm kind of surprised it. Wasn't too hard to find bad
- 9:39reviews on. How was it?
- 9:41Not from like our people I don't.
- 9:43I see I usually try and not read the reviews until we do the
- 9:47show. So like, I take a screenshot,
- 9:49but I don't ever actually read the contents.
- 9:51I couldn't avoid it. Oh, you've read some?
- 9:54Some of them. Oh, come on, Jesse.
- 9:56All right, I've got 3 movies that came out in 2012.
- 10:00The theme that I went with is basically like torture porn.
- 10:05Ish. Slash.
- 10:07Well, yeah, pretty much just torture porn stuff.
- 10:09Yeah. So the first movie is Shiver
- 10:12that released February 2nd, 2012.
- 10:16There. It stars Daniel Harris.
- 10:19Oh, that's why it's on. Yeah, I.
- 10:21Don't think we've ever seen it. Yeah, but that's where I would
- 10:24have heard. Of it before, yeah, same.
- 10:25Yeah. Has a budget of $4 million,
- 10:29don't have the worldwide gross on it.
- 10:30And the IMDb is 4.3 out of 10. OK, yeah.
- 10:34I don't know if it's any good or not, but yeah, I guess I saw her
- 10:38there. And usually if you get somebody
- 10:39like her, like, oh, give it a. Watch And so Danielle and Scout
- 10:44were at, not our Scout, but Scott, Taylor Compton.
- 10:48They were at Scarefest last year and we were talking to her about
- 10:51among friends and how we're excited to watch her first
- 10:56directorial debut. And she was a little bit kinda
- 10:59like not crazy to talk about it, I think.
- 11:01She's kind of mad that we even brought it up.
- 11:03She like had no merge from that at her table at all, but she was
- 11:06like, oh, me and Scout are actually trying to put together
- 11:08our own production company and I saw that they are currently
- 11:10working on their like I think their first project together as
- 11:15like with that company. Oh that's cool.
- 11:16Yeah, I saw her post something about how it feels really good
- 11:19to be back directing again or something.
- 11:20So. I hope it goes well.
- 11:21Yeah, I really hope it does. 'Cause I don't wanna ask her
- 11:24about it next time we see her, and it'd be another awkward
- 11:26situation. I kind of like I just want to
- 11:32troll her really hard and not in a way.
- 11:36Like I love her and I want to see how she handles it.
- 11:39Like if we found a physical coffee of among friends and had
- 11:42her sign it or where I want to do a Tina Cos play if I just
- 11:45came up with a Princess costume and.
- 11:48Yeah, I don't think that there are DVDs made of friends if I'm
- 11:55being for real. I think that that's purely
- 11:57streaming, like digital, yeah. From a screenshot.
- 12:01We'll do like a bootleg copy of it.
- 12:04I'll get that would creep her out.
- 12:06OK, moving on. Security.
- 12:09Movie #2 Excision. OK, that's.
- 12:13I don't think we've watched that either.
- 12:14The synopsis of it sounds a lot like American Mary, which also
- 12:18came out this year. OK.
- 12:19It's somebody that is wanting to be a doctor and they are just
- 12:23practicing on a bunch of people to do so.
- 12:27OK. And it aligned, I'm assuming.
- 12:30Not in like the legit kind of way where you have like a body
- 12:33you check out from the the hospital.
- 12:35No, like actual people. Yeah, like a living people
- 12:38needing help. Or I don't.
- 12:39Maybe not even needing help. Maybe just like taking random
- 12:42people and be like, hey, I'm going to like, do the surgery on
- 12:44you. Your spleen's not essential,
- 12:46David. Yeah, that came out November
- 12:492nd, 2012. No budgets.
- 12:51Worldwide gross 2757 dollars. OK.
- 12:56OK. IMDb Highest of the Moai here.
- 13:00It's 6.1 out of seven. Wow.
- 13:03Apparently a good movie. OK yeah.
- 13:05And the final movie, Truth or Dare, The one that we covered on
- 13:10the show? Episode #2.
- 13:12British Truth or dare? Yep, exactly.
- 13:14Yeah. That worried to all of our
- 13:17British friends and listeners. That one, actually, I feel like
- 13:20it's the closest to this movie because it's torture porn, but
- 13:24it's also presenting options of like a game.
- 13:28Type scenario. Yeah, that's a good movie.
- 13:30I recommend people check that out.
- 13:32That released August 6th, 2012, $1 million budget and $2.5
- 13:36million worldwide gross. IMDb score 5.6 OK, so
- 13:43unfortunately I only have one tagline.
- 13:46Just one, just. One tagline I know, and it's not
- 13:48that great either. It is.
- 13:51Keep telling yourself. It's just a game.
- 13:53Oh, that is really lame. Yeah, come on.
- 13:55Like, why? Like, I don't think there's any
- 13:56doubt that it's just a game. That would be great for a John
- 14:01Kramer origin story movie. That is true.
- 14:04That would be very good for one of those.
- 14:06Unfortunately, not what we got here.
- 14:09Yeah, So we'll have to, we'll have to come up with something
- 14:12better than that at the end of the episode here.
- 14:14All right. So I do have some fun facts.
- 14:17Not a whole lot out there for this one, but I did manage to
- 14:20pull some stuff here. So this movie was shot in July
- 14:232011 in Pasadena, Woodland Hills and in Los Angeles.
- 14:28It was shot entirely in sequence, which Jeffrey Combs
- 14:31says is a very rare thing to do in Hollywood movies, and he
- 14:35actually credits it for the performances that they have here
- 14:38because it allowed them to build the tension of each scene more
- 14:41organically. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:43No, I like that. They weren't having to, like,
- 14:45force any of it. I I mean, I I feel like that
- 14:48would have. Part of, yeah, it's part of
- 14:50acting. But also it is kind of nice that
- 14:53they were able to do that. I always like when movies do
- 14:55that because it does feel a little bit more organic.
- 14:57I agree, and he mentioned that usually the processes, they
- 15:01always start with the end, and he says he doesn't understand
- 15:05the thought process for doing that, but he like being able to
- 15:08build up to the end. That way he would actually be
- 15:11able to put himself in his character's shoes to get that
- 15:14performance. I mean, at this point in his
- 15:16career, I think Jeffrey Comes is pretty good at playing a madman.
- 15:20He is. It's a different type of madman,
- 15:22though. Yeah, like he's a little bit
- 15:24more sinister in this one compared to Reanimator.
- 15:27Yeah, and the only other movie of his that we've covered on
- 15:30this show thus far. I still know what you did last
- 15:33summer. He was just a very annoyed hotel
- 15:36manager. I forgot that he was in that
- 15:38movie. Oh my God, you're right.
- 15:40But he was a reasonable red herring because he was just so
- 15:43fucking annoying. Yeah, not annoying.
- 15:46Annoyed. Really.
- 15:47You could just kind of throw him in any horror movie and you're
- 15:50like, keep an eye on that guy? Yeah.
- 15:52Yeah, even if you're not the villain, you're for sure red
- 15:56herring. I see that.
- 15:57Mustache. OK, so the budget was very
- 16:02limited. They had Jeffrey comes in an
- 16:05interview, was talking about how difficult it was to be able to
- 16:07find the wardrobe for his character.
- 16:10Because he's such a wealthy character, he's got to have like
- 16:13a $5000 suit, but they don't have $5000 for a suit.
- 16:17Yeah, so they ended up actually renting part of the wardrobe
- 16:20from the Warner Bros wardrobe. Oh, I thought you were about to.
- 16:25My brain went to Rent the Runway, which is like an actual
- 16:28thing people can do if they need like a fancy outfit for a single
- 16:31night and they don't want to go out and buy it.
- 16:33I've never heard of that run the runway.
- 16:35Yeah, it's a like legit website. Oh, maybe they should have done
- 16:38that. I don't know.
- 16:39But they weren't able to get double s of any of the costumes,
- 16:42so that is part of the reason why for it.
- 16:46Yeah. Well, part of it.
- 16:47Well, no, more like why it wasn't so gory, despite there
- 16:52being a lot of, you know, visceral acts going on in this
- 16:57movie. Like you don't really have blood
- 16:58flying everywhere. I think the most bloody moment,
- 17:01obviously the stab, but also things were shaken.
- 17:05Well, that, but also when shit goes flying everywhere and it
- 17:08could get on, everybody would be whenever Peter's hand blows up.
- 17:12Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah.
- 17:13And also in the interview, the guy for some reason asked if he
- 17:19had any desire to want to look up Sasha.
- 17:23Grey's like filmography because he figured out that he was going
- 17:27to be working with her. And he's like, no, like
- 17:31everybody kind of has like, you know, their own past with films
- 17:34and stuff like that. And for those that don't know,
- 17:36Sasha Grey is a porn star and this is like kind of out of out
- 17:41of the norm for her. I don't really know if she has
- 17:43much of an acting career. She's in one other movie with
- 17:46the little Hobbit boy. Little Hobbit.
- 17:49The main one. Frodo.
- 17:51Elijah Woods. Elijah Woods.
- 17:52Yes, he's in a movie or she's in a movie with him, but I don't
- 17:56really know if she has much of an acting thing.
- 17:58But maybe is it? It's that one.
- 18:01Where? Windows.
- 18:02Yes, OK. That's.
- 18:03It that's the that's the one I would expect her to be in.
- 18:05Yeah, but I thought it was weird that they're like, yeah, so did
- 18:08you like, go and check out her porn whenever you found out
- 18:10you're going to be working with her?
- 18:11And he's like, yeah, not really. She was actually kind of shy and
- 18:13kept herself most of the time. Yeah, that's that's a creepy
- 18:17question to ask. I thought it was too.
- 18:19The implication is definitely Sasha grey.
- 18:21Would you want to bang her? Like I I I saw.
- 18:25His work. Pornography, like porn actresses
- 18:29are do like they're doing a fucking job.
- 18:30Calm down. Yeah, And I just thought it was
- 18:33really weird that he asked that question and then published it
- 18:36in a news article. It was so weird.
- 18:39And I like that he basically shut it down.
- 18:40It's like, I mean, no, like, she's just like an actor.
- 18:43Respect. Yeah, it was cool.
- 18:45Speaking of Sasha grey, she actually did an interview, too.
- 18:48She states that all of Amy's actions were just a front and a
- 18:50performance. She said that her character is
- 18:53actually nothing like the Amy that we see on there.
- 18:57She had so much pain and suffering that she decided to
- 19:00embody the person responsible, her husband, which I thought was
- 19:03interesting because the every time I've watched this, I've
- 19:06always just thought Amy is just like a fucking terrible person.
- 19:09So I've got a lot of thoughts on that that I'll discuss when we
- 19:13get to our discussion on the movie.
- 19:15I was. I was thinking about it a lot.
- 19:17So we'll table that one for now, yeah.
- 19:19All right. Final thing I have so the
- 19:22Lambrick Foundation is actual or it's an actual like publishing?
- 19:26I'm so glad you looked. That up because when the movie
- 19:29started, it said the Lambrecht Foundation Presents.
- 19:31We were both like, wait, no, that's that's Jeffrey Cones's
- 19:34character's name. Let me start over.
- 19:36It is in the movie, a production company for this movie.
- 19:41OK, so it opens up saying the Lambrecht Foundation presents
- 19:45and then it goes into Would you rather?
- 19:47I don't think it's done anything else.
- 19:48However, I got curious, so I went on to Google and I did the
- 19:53Google search of it. They have an actual website, a
- 19:57functioning website. Still, I went there.
- 19:59It's creepy as hell. Like, it looks so natural.
- 20:03They have merch. They have like all kinds of
- 20:06shit. They have social media and I go
- 20:07there and like the social media is an old one.
- 20:09The Last Post was from 2013 talking about would you rather,
- 20:13But I did take a screenshot of the about us page here.
- 20:17So. Says the Labric Foundation's
- 20:21mission, unchanged since 1913, is to help develop humanity's
- 20:24potential throughout the world. Today, we pursue this mission by
- 20:28helping people and communities prepare for, withstand, and
- 20:31emerge stronger from any emerging challenges that may
- 20:33come their way. To achieve these goals, we work
- 20:36at the intersection of four focus areas, health, the
- 20:39environment, academics, and the arts to aid opportunity whenever
- 20:43and wherever possible. Together with partners and
- 20:46grantees, the Landbrick Foundation strives to propel
- 20:48humanity forward. OK.
- 20:50What 4 areas was it? Health, the environment,
- 20:55academics and the arts. OK.
- 20:57Did I not say that? No, you did.
- 20:58I just, I'm trying to figure out if there's any possibility that
- 21:02like the other characters like might represent some of those
- 21:06different areas because we know that Iris and Linda were both
- 21:10pulled from the clinic, so that would be health.
- 21:13So I'm just trying to think of like, but it's clear Amy's
- 21:17character, was there something to do with her husband killing
- 21:21their daughter? There's.
- 21:22A lot of environment. Yeah, Callaway clearly had
- 21:26substance abuse issues that, even though he got sober, was
- 21:29still reeling with the effects from that.
- 21:32Peter's a gambler. Travis is a vet, so there's an
- 21:36easy, like, connection to that. We don't get much about caller
- 21:40Lucas, Yeah. So it could be part of.
- 21:43That they're the wild cards. Yeah, I thought it was
- 21:46interesting, though, because, like going there, it kind of
- 21:48gives a little bit of war. Yeah, I was, when I was reading
- 21:52some of the interviews from Jeffrey Combs, he was talking
- 21:54about where he was coming from with the character.
- 21:57He was under the impression that this is something that's been
- 22:00going on within his family for generations.
- 22:03Which is the impression the movie gives.
- 22:05So. Yeah.
- 22:06And he pointed out one thing that him and the director both
- 22:10shared. But like when you look at the
- 22:12clock that they used to, timeless, it's a very ancient
- 22:15clock. So it kind of like symbolizes
- 22:18that this has been going on for a long time within the family.
- 22:22So it just they just keep passing it down to the next
- 22:24generation. Yeah, I thought that that was
- 22:26interesting. I never really took that from
- 22:28that. I thought it was just him, but
- 22:31seeing this right here where they've actually kind of done a
- 22:32little bit of world building, like that's really interesting.
- 22:35And I think the way he talks to Julian about it, about like how
- 22:38it's, you know, there's a certain way that the game must
- 22:41be played to maintain its integrity.
- 22:43I got the impression that had been going on for a while.
- 22:45OK, so yeah, that's that's my phone fax.
- 22:48OK, so there we go. All right, all right.
- 22:51So let's get into our discussion.
- 22:53Good, bad, ugly, and absurd. Jesse, what did you like about
- 22:56it? OK, well, as long as this isn't
- 22:59like your first episode or two here, which of it is?
- 23:02Hi. Hey.
- 23:03If it's not, then you already know that this is like one of my
- 23:07favorite subgenres of horror, which is sadistic games.
- 23:12In a single location? In a single.
- 23:13Location. People pitted against each
- 23:16other. Not entirely sure why they're
- 23:18there. Yep, for sure, guys, this is
- 23:21Jesse's jam right here. It really is.
- 23:24So it's got that going for it. It and it it does the whole it.
- 23:29I kind of like that they don't focus as much on the gore
- 23:32because you know it's happening. You don't necessarily have to
- 23:35see it. Shame for the effects artists
- 23:37not really getting to play around a whole lot.
- 23:39But then probably we're like, OK, we don't, we don't have a
- 23:42big budget. So it's, you know, we got a
- 23:45couple lashes here and there and a bona pan, yeah.
- 23:49Yeah. So I I think that it kind of
- 23:51helps us focus a little bit more on the crux of the story which
- 23:56is like you know your your moral, your morals like what are
- 24:01you willing to do for what gain or lack of consequence.
- 24:07So I think that that it this is one of those movies that poses
- 24:11that kind of question really well, 'cause it's so easy to
- 24:14have a movie like this and it just have no purpose or meaning.
- 24:17And even though this ultimately is a very kind of nihilistic
- 24:22movie, it does really touch on the heart of, like, what are you
- 24:26willing to do? Yeah, I like it too.
- 24:29Because everybody, everybody's always played that game.
- 24:32Would you rather, you know, it's like a fun, hypothetical game to
- 24:35play, and it's kind of fun to be able to just watch it be played
- 24:38out with like these stakes. No joke.
- 24:40OK, at an old job I had one time we were playing would you
- 24:43rather, And one of the questions was would you rather get
- 24:48$1,000,000 but someone somewhere in the world dies, you don't
- 24:51know who, or have your bank account emptied?
- 24:56And every single person aside from me chose the $1,000,000.
- 25:02And they're like, but it's $1,000,000.
- 25:04I'm like, yeah, but it's like it's blood money and like,
- 25:07they're like, but then your bank account's empty and I was like,
- 25:09bitch, my bank account's basically already empty.
- 25:12It's fine. I can rebuild it, and I'd at
- 25:15least be rebuilding it without that.
- 25:17But then this movie adds in the fact that you are now complicit
- 25:21in torture and murder. Like, I think that's why that
- 25:25final round, it forces the person to shoot.
- 25:29So that way they are the ones that did the murdering.
- 25:32And I think it's yeah, it also you you have that question of
- 25:36when you walk away, like what are going to be the consequences
- 25:39for you, 'cause I wouldn't put it past this family to find a
- 25:44way to frame you all for the things that happened or turn you
- 25:48into some sort of a social or legal pariah.
- 25:51I could see that, but I feel like, I feel like they probably
- 25:57sweep everything under the rugs. I think that they probably have
- 26:00themselves well, I feel like they have other people.
- 26:04They've got the doctor like a hospital on their bankroll, you
- 26:07know what I mean? They probably have some corrupt
- 26:09cops there too. Absolutely.
- 26:11And that's what I'm saying. The people that choose to walk
- 26:13away, what are going to be the consequences for them?
- 26:18And that's interesting because I feel like they do kind of touch
- 26:21on that a little bit because the Doctor is basically his pawn
- 26:24now. Like, yeah, he got what he
- 26:26wanted, but now he is like he has to do anything that Shepherd
- 26:33asks him. And he is the one that won the
- 26:35game. So what happens to the people
- 26:37that walk away from all of that? Because those are the people
- 26:40that are going to walk away thinking that they're not owned
- 26:42by the Lambricks, but by virtue of the fact that they made it to
- 26:45the final round, they still kind of really are.
- 26:49So I I just, I think that this movie is very succinct in how it
- 26:53does all of this. It layers in a lot of little
- 26:56things like that. I think there's a lot of
- 26:58interesting hints into the character's backgrounds, like
- 27:00Amy's character, which we'll get to in a minute.
- 27:04And I think that that's really nice and interesting and there's
- 27:06a lot for you to like read in between the lines with.
- 27:08And I always like that in a movie.
- 27:10It's like something that you get a new surprise every time you
- 27:13watch a movie or a new take on something.
- 27:16Yeah, I agree. Yeah.
- 27:17Cool. So what was your good?
- 27:19So a lot of it was stuff that you had already said, but I no,
- 27:23that's OK. I feel like they had a lot of
- 27:26really good variety with the the challenges that they presented
- 27:30because yeah, like you said, like you could go super like
- 27:33brutal and gory with it. But I feel like that they they
- 27:36targeted the things that people have these innate fears of.
- 27:41Yeah, and it really does the whole like, simple is better,
- 27:43kind of. Thing.
- 27:45So like drowning, like not super, you know gory to watch,
- 27:48but everybody's going to think about that like losing oxygen.
- 27:52Everybody kind of knows what that feels like, and it's
- 27:54terrifying to think of, like the little cutting your eye thing
- 27:58that everybody says. Fuck.
- 28:00That. Absolutely not.
- 28:02Yeah. Like the whole time I was
- 28:03watching that scene, I was thinking about like any time
- 28:05I've accidentally put my contact on inside out and like my whole
- 28:07day is ruined because it's so painful.
- 28:09Like I can't imagine. Yeah, so you know, they did a
- 28:14good job with that. Like just things that play on
- 28:16like their primal fears. I feel like the cast and
- 28:19characters are amazing. Jeffrey Combs plays evil way too
- 28:23well. Yes, like he's so fucking good
- 28:25at being the sinister asshole. Like a?
- 28:27Sinister hassle, but he's just like so charming as well that,
- 28:31like, he's very unique as an actor and I love it.
- 28:35Yeah, he did a great job. You know, like with Reanimator,
- 28:38he's kind of, I mean, he's a bad guy because he came up with the
- 28:41Reanimator juice, but he's not the bad guy of the movie.
- 28:44And he's also like you're willing to go along on the
- 28:47antics with him because he's magnetic on screen.
- 28:49Yeah, he's got that charm too, and it really helps.
- 28:52So yeah, that was pretty much it.
- 28:54OK, OK, bad. It's not my bad, and I get it.
- 28:58This is Iris's movie, like that makes sense.
- 29:01This is her story. She's and they can only they
- 29:04need to show her story. So that way we root for her and
- 29:08we need to see just enough of other people's stories to see
- 29:12why they're there and feel sympathy for them without
- 29:16ultimately turning against Iris. So it's a very delicate balance.
- 29:21I don't know if it's what she was given to work with, if it's
- 29:26some of the choices she made for herself, if it's her acting as a
- 29:30whole. I don't know, because I do not
- 29:32know any of Sasha Grey's other work.
- 29:35We have seen open windows. I could not tell you a thing
- 29:37about that movie. Yeah, I forgot most about it
- 29:39too. So I can't tell you what her
- 29:41acting was like in that. So I and like this is to be very
- 29:44clear, this is not me shitting on Sasha Grey and I just want to
- 29:46put that out there as a disclaimer because I think a lot
- 29:48of people like to take that as a low blow, which makes no sense.
- 29:51Yeah, I feel like people focus way too much on the fact that
- 29:55she was a porn star and just not really thinking of her as an
- 29:57actor here. And also, porn is still acting
- 30:00like you. Yeah, I mean, it's probably a
- 30:03lot more acting than do. You think they'd be enjoying all
- 30:06the fucks they're getting now? So let's Yeah, let's be clear.
- 30:12This is not me like, denigrating her.
- 30:14I struggle with the Amy character because there's a lot
- 30:17going on there. And that ultimate reveal right
- 30:20before, like in that second to last round where Shep so
- 30:25callously says, are you going to try and do the burial and
- 30:29understand what your daughter was living through when your
- 30:31husband drowned her to death? Suddenly we get this big drop
- 30:35and a lot of her character choices kind of makes sense, but
- 30:39you have to do too much work to get there to think about like,
- 30:43oh, what has she been going like?
- 30:45It's not just that she went through the pain of losing her
- 30:47child, and her husband probably, presumably was also abusive to
- 30:51her, but like, what kind of legal issues was she's having?
- 30:54The way she styled? It's very like, and obviously
- 30:57all of these people are not upper class because they're all
- 31:00struggling with money in some way, shape or form.
- 31:02But she's got a very kind of like, this is the nicest dress I
- 31:06could find at Walmart. And I don't mean that to
- 31:08denigrate Walmart. I love Walmart.
- 31:09I have several Walmart dresses. I'm just saying where everybody
- 31:12else has at least department store.
- 31:15For a an event that's like black tie required.
- 31:19Yes, she's wearing. Yeah, like a junior's dress with
- 31:22her bright pink bra straps showing.
- 31:24And it's, it feels like a very specific wardrobing choice.
- 31:29And it makes me wonder what kind of legal trouble she went
- 31:32through, what happened to her, you know, cuz it's recovering
- 31:36from a domestic violence situation, the traumatic loss of
- 31:39her daughter to a murder. Like, there's so much that's
- 31:44packed in there and it leaves you wanting to know a little bit
- 31:47more. And I wish we could have layered
- 31:48in a little bit more of her story throughout.
- 31:51Same with all of the other ones. Like there's little hints and
- 31:55pieces there. And I like I said, I get it.
- 31:57It's a delicate balance. They have to keep us mostly
- 32:00focused on Iris. So that way we continue rooting
- 32:02for her even when bad choices are having to be made.
- 32:06But I think it would be a little bit more impactful for those
- 32:10kinds of moments where you're like, oh shit.
- 32:12Yeah. That way you can see where
- 32:13everybody's coming. From Yeah, cuz up until that
- 32:15point, Amy's just despicable. And I don't feel like the goal
- 32:20or the objective should be for us to root for Iris, because I
- 32:24feel like we understand already that everybody here, not
- 32:27necessarily bad people, just all in very bad situations.
- 32:32So being able to root for everybody here, I feel like, you
- 32:35know, that wouldn't be an issue. Like you can still focus mainly
- 32:38on IRS, But yeah, give us like a little bit more.
- 32:41Of and I think the background. I can't believe I'm going to say
- 32:43this. So I love this movie, but when I
- 32:48think of torture porn, that's just violence for violence sake.
- 32:51It's vile. Oh yeah.
- 32:53And they have a similar kind of moment in this movie where one
- 32:59woman like it's, you know, everybody's like, has divided up
- 33:02how they're going to do this share equal load whatever.
- 33:04And then one of them kind of goes hog wild and causes a lot
- 33:08of distraction and it causes the group to turn on her.
- 33:10So it's a similar premise of like, oh, are we working
- 33:13together? No, fuck you.
- 33:14I'm just going to try and make sure I get out if you're alive.
- 33:17And I felt like that was they had no nuance with it, but I
- 33:22think it worked for it. You know what I mean?
- 33:24Like if you're going to have like nuance the way they do in
- 33:26this movie throughout, you need to have little bit more in
- 33:30there. Not just like this drop at the
- 33:31end that like, yeah, you know, cuz I I don't.
- 33:35It's so at the climax of the movie to have that whiplash of
- 33:39going from. I do not like this person cuz
- 33:41she's nasty. Not even just that she doesn't
- 33:44want to play the game with the other people.
- 33:45She's just straight up nasty to how she talks to them to Oh my
- 33:49God, there's so much more going on with her.
- 33:52It is so. Distracting right there at the
- 33:54end when everything is coming together.
- 33:57Yeah, So, yeah. I I wish we just had a little
- 33:59bit more build up to that. All right, I can agree with
- 34:02that. The bad that I have for this is
- 34:07the whole subplot thing that we get going on with the Doctor
- 34:11just amounts to nothing. And it feels like it was filler
- 34:16for the movie because really it has no impact other than like
- 34:21maybe Iris getting free and having that moment with Julian.
- 34:26But you know, it didn't need to be done in the way that it did.
- 34:30Like it just kind of they brought the Doctor character
- 34:33back and they just made it. They hyped it up to make it seem
- 34:37like there was it was going to be like some kind of thing, but
- 34:39it just nothing ever materialized from it.
- 34:43I just it felt pointless. I wonder if maybe it was kind of
- 34:46like what you were saying earlier about how now the Doctor
- 34:48is like, owned by the Lambrecht Foundation.
- 34:51I wonder if it's kind of meant to be a hint as to like what her
- 34:54future is, if she's going to have to be scouting people,
- 34:57things like that. Yeah, I mean, maybe.
- 34:59But the whole thing is he has had enough of it.
- 35:02He's just going over there to like, end it, you know?
- 35:05It ultimately becomes nothing because it yeah, it is so
- 35:08anticlimactic. We spend a lot of time watching
- 35:10him drive over there, which I will say this I do appreciate
- 35:14that. They showed us him drinking,
- 35:17thinking over that conversation, feeling regret, getting a gun,
- 35:19driving, and they layer it in between all of the other scenes.
- 35:23So a we get like a little bit of a breakup from the dinner table.
- 35:27So we can still have that tension going on.
- 35:29Yeah. But they also don't just show us
- 35:32him getting a gun and then suddenly he's in the basement.
- 35:34I do like that they did that because other movies have done
- 35:36that. They'll be like, oh, they'll
- 35:37figure out that he was getting the gun to come here.
- 35:40I. Mean it does break things up.
- 35:41But I mean if that's there are other things that could have
- 35:45been done like you know, like I don't know like show us shit
- 35:48with like bevins and the wait staff.
- 35:50I don't know like in between rounds.
- 35:51Or I'm sorry, I believe you mean Duggan's.
- 35:54Duggan's Yeah, I don't know. And the only other thing is
- 35:57like, I know that we, like, have a conclusion, but ultimately it
- 36:02just feels like there's no real payoff in this movie.
- 36:05Like you feel you just feel shortchanged.
- 36:07And that might be what they were going for, but that leaves
- 36:10people with a bad feeling. I definitely think it was meant
- 36:13to be a This was all for nothing.
- 36:15Yeah, I it was meant to be. As our favorite detective from
- 36:21Tusk would say, one fuck of a bummer.
- 36:24It sure was. So what do you have for your
- 36:27uglies? The fact that people are a in
- 36:31this situation where they are so desperate for money that they're
- 36:35going along with this. I mean, think about her
- 36:38character, IRS and Riley. They were orphaned recently and
- 36:43he's got cancer and so she had to drop out of school and try
- 36:48and deal with all of this. Just the fact that medical bills
- 36:52and a tragedy like that can also add further tragedy like having
- 36:56to sell your family home. Where are you going to live?
- 36:59She needs to get a job. She has no experience because
- 37:02she's probably 20 fucking years old and so she can't get a job.
- 37:07And even if she can get a job, she's going to have issues with
- 37:10it because her brother is always needing to go to doctor's
- 37:13appointments, which isn't his fault.
- 37:15But they are alone in the world and struggling with this, and
- 37:17it's the same for all those other people at the table.
- 37:20We've got Travis, and we don't know what's going on, but it's
- 37:23highly implied that he's got a lot of PTSD as a result from his
- 37:27time in the Iraq war, and he's clearly not getting help with
- 37:30the resources available to him. We've got Callaway, who did the
- 37:34hard work of getting sober, and because our society stigmatizes
- 37:39substance abuse and we don't have the resources that is
- 37:42needed for everybody with that, he's clearly still struggling
- 37:45with so much stuff. So I think that as a whole is
- 37:49really ugly. And also this whole like the
- 37:52Lambricks, like they're like, oh, we're helping you, you poor
- 37:55unfortunate souls. But like, they're so on their
- 38:00high fucking horse, like having money makes them superior.
- 38:03And I do think that that's a very realistic thing we see in
- 38:07society. I am not saying that all rich
- 38:09people are assholes, but I am saying there are definitely rich
- 38:12people that think they are morally superior just because
- 38:15they have money, and that people that the poor's out here are
- 38:19poor because we make bad choices, and not just because
- 38:22sometimes that's how life fucking goes so.
- 38:25Yeah, you know, I think he pretty much summed it up like, I
- 38:28don't have anything like you. You got it covered.
- 38:31You covered all the bases. Like the ugly is pretty up front
- 38:35and center with this movie. It doesn't hide.
- 38:37Also, the fact that Julian appears to be like a serial
- 38:40rapist. Yeah, well, OK, that for sure is
- 38:43something extra to and it's really dark to think about what
- 38:49his dad was like. OK, I don't want to repeat of
- 38:52last year. And then you're like, OK, what
- 38:53the fuck did he do last year? And then that scene happens.
- 38:56It's like, oh, he probably did that shit last year.
- 38:59Yeah, and it seems like Shep is very much a boys will be boys.
- 39:03What's he going to do? He doesn't have a mother.
- 39:05Y'all don't know shit about tragedy anyway.
- 39:07No, I don't think that he actually felt that way.
- 39:09I think he went up there and like, fucked him up.
- 39:12I wish that when Shep was like ever since he lost his mother,
- 39:17he's lacked self-control. I wish that IRS had been like
- 39:20bitch, I just lost both my parents and now I'm my brother's
- 39:23caretaker. I haven't gone around nobody.
- 39:26Yeah, that would be it would be long time maybe because, you
- 39:30know, maybe that would not go well for her, but.
- 39:33Probably. Not.
- 39:33But it would be nice, it would feel so good to put him in his
- 39:36place like that. Like, OK, yeah, motherfucker.
- 39:38What about this? No, like, I mean, he, yeah has
- 39:43no control over Julian and he, the whole thing with him him in
- 39:48this movie is he loves having this control over the other
- 39:52people like this money gives him the power over everybody there,
- 39:56but he doesn't have his power over his son.
- 39:59Because his son already has money.
- 40:00Yeah, and his son is a Dick and his son does not want to listen
- 40:03to him. And it's an interesting dynamic
- 40:05there. But man, his son just sucks
- 40:07hard. That actor is also in accepted,
- 40:11by the way. He's in a lot of things.
- 40:13He played the Penguin in the Gotham TV series, OK?
- 40:18He he just always plays that guy like the fucking asshole.
- 40:22And it's he's always got that like emo hair look, you know
- 40:25what I mean? Yeah, yeah, he he just always is
- 40:28like he's got a punchable face. Really.
- 40:30He He plays a good, punchable person.
- 40:33OK. OK, absurd.
- 40:36OK, so when we see the doctor, Doctor Varden, he goes and he
- 40:40gets his gun and there's like built in's in his hallway and
- 40:42I'm like, well, I love a built in.
- 40:44However, this house looks very small for a Doctor Who was given
- 40:47essentially unlimited funds by this foundation.
- 40:50And then later at the end of the movie, when Iris comes home and
- 40:52she's putting her stuff up and she's getting her towel out of
- 40:54their linen closet, it's the same fucking built in.
- 40:57They thought I wouldn't notice. I I get it, I get it.
- 41:02Limited budget, have to reuse a set.
- 41:04He's going to be in that house for all of 5 minutes, but you
- 41:08didn't count on somebody. Yeah, I didn't even notice it.
- 41:14But when you called out, I was like, whoa, my God, you're
- 41:16right. But I do also love the
- 41:20alternative head cannon. That Doctor Barden doesn't own a
- 41:24gun, but he knows that. Iris and Riley's parents, I
- 41:27thought. Of that into.
- 41:28Their house and stole it. I actually did think about that.
- 41:32Like, did he go to her fucking house?
- 41:34It'd be funny if she just came home and he's just there, like
- 41:37with A at the stove, just cooking breakfast.
- 41:40Like, Yep, got some scrambled eggs going for you, Iris.
- 41:43When he comes down the basement and points the gun in.
- 41:45Julian, he's like, get a virus, we're going home.
- 41:47And she just, I'm like, is that my dad's pistol?
- 41:51It's like your bum living with what do you think bought the
- 41:54house He bought the house OK. My absurd is that Peter is 100%
- 42:04Ricky. I have my own head cannon that
- 42:06that is Ricky from Trailer Park Boys doing one of his schemes to
- 42:10get money to buy the trailer park, which is a thing that
- 42:13happens in the show many times. I love that.
- 42:18Really though, like he acts exactly like like Ricky.
- 42:21I don't know if it's because Rob Willis doesn't have a lot of
- 42:23range. Well, and also because when they
- 42:26do all of their press stuff for Trailer Park Boys, they play
- 42:29their characters. So I don't know if Rob at this
- 42:33point knows where Rob ends and Ricky.
- 42:35Begins. They're 100% in character, like
- 42:38all the time public appearances. It's kind of exhausting, I would
- 42:41imagine for them more absurds. I think just seeing Shepherd
- 42:47have to constantly remind Julian to not be an asshole when he in
- 42:52fact is being an asshole to everybody.
- 42:54Like, he's like, don't be sarcastic, but then he's like,
- 42:57he'll go up there and he'll give like a sarcastic kaline to
- 42:59everybody else in the room. He's like, no, that's my shit,
- 43:03don't steal my lines. In his head, he can justify it
- 43:05the way he's doing it, but nobody else can.
- 43:08Yeah, and Bevins is just the best fucking bowler.
- 43:11It's kind of absurd, like seeing how well oiled that machine is
- 43:15right there. If I was a maniac billionaire, I
- 43:18would for sure hire Duggins. He he is intense.
- 43:24He is no nonsense. He does it all and he does it
- 43:28built like a Lego man. It just made me think like,
- 43:32what's this guy like in his downtime?
- 43:34Does he? He has no downtime.
- 43:36He is on 100% of the time. Is he like one of the Trailer
- 43:39Park Boys? He has to be 100% in character
- 43:41no matter what. Yeah, OK, probably.
- 43:44It's a good character. He's very intense.
- 43:47OK, that's it for absurd. So what do you rate it?
- 43:51I think this is a solid 8 1/2. OK, I'll give it an 8.
- 43:56OK. So we're starting off with an
- 43:58average of 8.25 and I think that is quite appropriate.
- 44:03That's very good. See it all right.
- 44:05OK, so it starts off with Iris interviewing at her restaurant.
- 44:09She's only got retail experience.
- 44:11She had to drop out of school because there was a recent
- 44:14accident and she needs to care for her brother.
- 44:16And the interviewer's like they really only wanted to hire
- 44:18experienced servers, which I'm calling bullshit unless this is
- 44:22like a high class restaurant. And we can see from being inside
- 44:29the restaurant that it is not, it's a very like, it looks like
- 44:32it's like a franchise, a Texas Roadhouse maybe.
- 44:34Yeah, like, as they call it on the tails from your server
- 44:37subreddit, TGI Chili Bees. Oh.
- 44:40Really. Yeah.
- 44:41So it's dead. Like they they live off of
- 44:44people with no experience that are desperate for money and will
- 44:47work stupid hours. She's their target demographic.
- 44:50It feels like everybody should get like should be able to get a
- 44:54waiting job. I have been declined for one
- 44:56before whenever I've applied. But you know, I don't know.
- 44:59Maybe. I like I have too, but not
- 45:01because of the no experience, just because I'm like awkward in
- 45:04interviews sometimes and they're like she doesn't have good
- 45:07tableside manners. Like writing down on here like
- 45:12the guys probably like. After asking about why she moved
- 45:15back, it's like bummed me out. Not a good waiter.
- 45:19Will she be able to have small talk with her clients?
- 45:23Probably not. He's.
- 45:23Gonna talk about your fucking brother every time somebody
- 45:25comes here to eat, not happen him.
- 45:28Yeah, and he's like, maybe we can get you a hosting position.
- 45:32So Yep, whatever. Back at home, she tells her
- 45:35brother Riley that she's gonna go talk to Doctor Barden about
- 45:38cutting some of the costs. And he's being a little bit
- 45:41Moody because, you know, he's dying and his parents are dead,
- 45:44which is fair. It's.
- 45:45Understandable, man. He's kind of a Dick in this
- 45:47movie, you know? What I mean, yeah, we don't get
- 45:49enough screen time with him to get.
- 45:51I want them to have more of a sibling relationship and not
- 45:54just us Seeing him where he is, like already made this decision
- 45:58about his own life. Yeah, no, I I understand from
- 46:01his perspective being super upset about the circumstances,
- 46:05but she is. She's doing what she can and he
- 46:08makes a joke that she's going to go give him a blowie or
- 46:11something to reduce their cost. That's your fucking.
- 46:14Sister dude, don't be putting her down.
- 46:15She's already having a hard time as it is.
- 46:17And she's like, yeah. Cool.
- 46:19Thanks. That's exactly what's going to
- 46:20happen. Yeah, no, he he just is kind of
- 46:24a little asshole sometimes. But I mean like he's a teenager
- 46:27and teenagers, I've said I said it before, I will say it again,
- 46:30teenagers are assholes regardless of their
- 46:32circumstances. And he's got worse circumstances
- 46:34the most. That's true, yeah.
- 46:37So she gets to the clinic and there's a sweet little looking
- 46:41old lady by the name of June Squid.
- 46:44There, in a wheelchair, is the actress's name.
- 46:47I like that. Or your last name's Squibb.
- 46:49What do you think? She's ever had to wear Squib.
- 46:51I hope so. Yeah, it's.
- 46:53What a waste if not, you know. Yeah, they like.
- 46:57They give the command like, All right, I'm going to need you to
- 46:58go squib, squib, squib. Squib Squib.
- 47:05Anyway, she's rolling into the clinic and Iris holds the door.
- 47:08Because Iris is a bit of a Mary Sue in this movie, and she's
- 47:12just perfect all around. And Linda's like, thank you.
- 47:15Nobody's ever held a door for me, which I call bullshit.
- 47:17You're 80 years old and in a wheelchair.
- 47:19People are probably always holding doors for you and.
- 47:21People generally hate. People like that.
- 47:24So she meets with Doctor Barton and Shep is in there and he is
- 47:31eating. Peanuts.
- 47:34I think pistachios maybe something with shells and he's
- 47:38just dropping the shells on the couch cushion and that's like a
- 47:41tweed type couch. And you know, like the little
- 47:44bits of the shell are never going to get out of that fabric,
- 47:47even if you vacuum it like five times.
- 47:49I really, if I have one change to make in this movie, it would
- 47:53be, I would just like to like see like serious conversation
- 47:57between the doctor and Iris and then you just see like shells
- 47:59flying and hitting the doctor. But he has to like keep a
- 48:02straight face the entire time. He's just like throwing shit the
- 48:05entire time. Like, yeah, I've got this
- 48:07foundation I can set you guys. Like an Infinity pool where he's
- 48:11where he's. Yeah, his baby James is throwing
- 48:14the cherries at the other table. Yeah.
- 48:16Exactly. Yeah.
- 48:17Just exactly like that. Except, like, this guy's like, I
- 48:19got to take the shit. I I owe him my life now.
- 48:24Yeah, that couch is ruined. Yeah.
- 48:28But yeah, he said that she was invited to a dinner party.
- 48:32They like to meet people that they're considering providing
- 48:37some funding for. And he said that their
- 48:39foundation can basically set her up for life, pay off her parents
- 48:43debts, get her back to school. And and she's like, well, my
- 48:46brother needs more than money. He needs a bone marrow
- 48:48transplant and he's like, oh, I didn't just need money.
- 48:53So the implication being that they're going to steal somebody
- 48:55off the street with the same. Seems that way, yeah?
- 49:00So she's like, well, I need to think about it.
- 49:03And he goes, well, you have until 8:00 PM to RSVP and we
- 49:07will send a card for you. Which how late does this fucking
- 49:09dinner party start? Yeah, and this is, and she's
- 49:12like, all right, is this for real?
- 49:13And then the doctor's like, Yep, and this is for real.
- 49:16He actually did the same thing for me.
- 49:18And Doctor Barden has a scar on the side of his face, So I kind
- 49:21of wonder what stuff he had to do.
- 49:23Yeah, he had, like, a little bit of scarring.
- 49:25Oh, wow, interesting. So yeah, it probably is a result
- 49:28of that. Yeah, and I didn't see it on the
- 49:30actors IMDb page, so I'm assuming it was like a very.
- 49:33Good catch. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:34But he's like, yeah, like, I went through that shit.
- 49:36I won the game. The guy paid me back tenfold.
- 49:39So this is like widget, so don't worry about it, yeah?
- 49:42So back at home, she's cooking for her brother and.
- 49:45She's like you doing the bad English accent, except she's
- 49:48trying to do an Italian accent. I think.
- 49:50She's going for French, but she's cooking pasta and her
- 49:54brother's annoyed because he's like, it wouldn't kill me to
- 49:56have some protein and we find out later that it's not like a
- 49:59cancer thing, that she's not giving him meat.
- 50:01It's because she doesn't eat meat.
- 50:03So she's just not. She's not trying to cook it and
- 50:06she's not trying to spend what little money they have on
- 50:08something that she's not gonna eat.
- 50:09I didn't. Even think about that, but yeah,
- 50:11OK, I can understand that complaint a little bit more on
- 50:14his and then. Well, then he can get off and
- 50:17cook. I don't know.
- 50:19Can he? He can play video games.
- 50:21That's true. He can, yeah.
- 50:23And he even. Says earlier in the movie.
- 50:24He's like, I can cook some for myself, you know?
- 50:27It's just it sounds like she's insisting on cooking for.
- 50:29She's wanting to go full on parent mode here and like, be
- 50:32the matriarch of the house. I think it's kind of how she is
- 50:36choosing to like if she's staying busy, she doesn't have
- 50:38to think about how terrified and overwhelmed she is.
- 50:40Yeah, exactly. Like if you start really
- 50:42thinking about shit in this movie like that, like like, Oh
- 50:45well, it's probably because she's like super depressed and
- 50:48there's a lot of shit like going on in her life.
- 50:50Yeah, she gets a call and it is from the job that she applied to
- 50:55and they tell her that she's not gonna be able to get the job.
- 50:58Not even the hosting gig? Nope.
- 51:00And then there's a flashback to them in the car and he's like, I
- 51:04feel like you're mad at me. And she goes, no, I feel like
- 51:06I'll let you down. I thought I would be a match.
- 51:07So it is implied that she wanted to try and donate her bone
- 51:10marrow and just wasn't able to. Yeah, and he says something
- 51:15about like you can't always be the hero and sometimes you have
- 51:18to learn to let go. Wonder if that will be important
- 51:21later. We'll see it.
- 51:22Could be. So Iris tells him that he she's
- 51:26going to be going out on town tonight with her friends.
- 51:29She met up with some old friends so they're going to go hang out.
- 51:32She is waiting outside. That's where you see that they
- 51:35have a for sale and sold sign on their house, so they are about
- 51:37to be homeless. She is picked up by a car and
- 51:41taken to the party. And she's going to have to move
- 51:43all that shit herself too. They can't afford it.
- 51:46They can't afford a mover. And you know she's not going to
- 51:49let like Riley help too much. And even if she did, he probably
- 51:52will actually tire out quickly. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:55God, yeah. The more you think about this
- 51:57movie, The more depressing it becomes.
- 51:59Yeah, and the more you understand the depths of her
- 52:01desperation, and you just have to multiply that eight times for
- 52:04all of the people there. Yeah, that's true, Yeah.
- 52:07On the way there, she is flashing back once again to
- 52:10Riley, asking if she's, you know, sick of this life, having
- 52:14to take care of him, not having money.
- 52:16She had to drop out of school and move back home.
- 52:18And she was like, yeah, it's a lot, but you're my brother.
- 52:22And maybe she didn't say it the best, but it wasn't like a well,
- 52:26I feel like I have to do this. It was more just like a you're
- 52:30my brother, I don't want to lose you.
- 52:31Of course I'm going to do this. But it she's exhausted and
- 52:35overwhelmed, and it didn't come across quite that way.
- 52:38Well, even then he's like, all right, don't you want a wife?
- 52:41Don't you wish you still had your wife?
- 52:42And she's like, well, no, I mean, yeah, I mean, no, like,
- 52:45yeah, you know, like how do you answer that?
- 52:47Like, yeah, I wish things were normal, but like, you know, I'm.
- 52:50Not obviously. I wish that you didn't have
- 52:52cancer and mom and dad weren't dead, so that way this wasn't
- 52:54the situation. Like, this is the fucking hand
- 52:57that we were dealt. So, like, I'm making the most of
- 52:59it. Like, yeah, it's family.
- 53:02And she's like, yeah, family. And she's like, we will get
- 53:05through this, Yeah, that's how she ends that conversation.
- 53:08God, she gets there. Duggan's leads her in with the
- 53:12other guests. Announcer is the 8th and final.
- 53:14I love how you're just gonna keep it.
- 53:16It's happening. So we've got Iris, of course.
- 53:21Lucas, He was flown in from Iowa.
- 53:24Cal. He was flown in from Seattle.
- 53:26Peter is some big shot gambler from Vegas, or so he tells them.
- 53:29None of them's heard of him, so they don't know to believe it.
- 53:31And I say, how many big shot gamblers do you know by name,
- 53:34anyway? Jennifer Tilly.
- 53:36That's true. Jenna Fisher also.
- 53:38Jenna Fisher? Yep.
- 53:39OK, there we go. We got 2 red things they're
- 53:42celebrities for. Other Yeah, they're celebrities
- 53:44for other things. And it's like, hey, fun fact,
- 53:46did you know? It's like this guys from the
- 53:48trailer park, and he says he's really good at gambling.
- 53:50I don't. Fucking know we've got Linda,
- 53:53which we already know her from the clinic, but she is sitting
- 53:56over there next to a window in her wheelchair holding what's
- 54:00either a statue or a gourd. She's like just looking at it,
- 54:04like, what's going on, Linda? Yeah.
- 54:06Yeah, they say. She barely speaks.
- 54:07Yeah, Travis, he's an Iraq vet, Amy, who's just mean they.
- 54:12Just say she's a real charmer. Yeah, that's her whole
- 54:14descriptor. And then Callaway, who is a
- 54:16conspiracy theorist, especially about the Leinbrich Foundation.
- 54:20He might be on to something there and.
- 54:21They've all been there between 5 minutes and two hours.
- 54:24Isn't it weird how these two immediately like take up with
- 54:26Iris? It is a little bit.
- 54:28Weird the way they like. Jump on her.
- 54:30But I guess I wonder if maybe they've tried that for a while
- 54:36and everybody else was just kind of standoffish and maybe they've
- 54:40tried it with every single person and she was the first to,
- 54:42like, really reciprocate. For them, like, they actually
- 54:44are treating us like a mixer, like they're mingling with other
- 54:47people. And everybody else is like,
- 54:48yeah, I've got like really bad shit going on in my life.
- 54:50I don't really want to talk about it.
- 54:52Yeah, I don't know. Maybe I and maybe since maybe
- 54:56the other people being flown in, maybe they got like treated to
- 54:59like a really nice stay in a hotel or something like.
- 55:02Probably. I don't know.
- 55:03I just always thought it was weird that these two are like,
- 55:06all right, we got to protect Iris.
- 55:07Like everybody here is in like a situation where it should be
- 55:11everybody for yourself, you know what I mean?
- 55:13Like, it's. I thought it was strange, these
- 55:15two guys. She becomes very like damsel in
- 55:17distress, kind of. Yeah, they they're.
- 55:19All in the same situation. You know what I mean?
- 55:21Yeah. They're like, all right, we got
- 55:22to defend this woman. She can't care for herself.
- 55:24It's it's really kind of weird. Kind of patronizing in a way.
- 55:27That's how I took it too. I was like, damn, she's she can
- 55:29fucking take care of herself. Guys like.
- 55:32Yeah, like, I understand, like you're not wanting to hurt other
- 55:34people, but, like, everybody's like, all right, we got to
- 55:36protect Iris. She can't handle her shit.
- 55:38Yeah. Iris is actually the one that
- 55:40handles her shit the best in this entire thing.
- 55:42Yeah. Meanwhile, we're heading to
- 55:44Doctor Barden, pouring a drink from a nice little decanter and
- 55:48regretting his decision. And it's kind of weird because
- 55:51it's a flashback to the clinic after the meeting and he tells
- 55:55Chef like, oh, I I don't think that she's right.
- 55:58And he's like, what? She's desperate.
- 56:01She has no friends or family. Like, it's perfect.
- 56:04Yeah, yeah. What a way to describe.
- 56:06So that's how you know, like a person is like.
- 56:08If somebody describes a person as being perfect for having
- 56:11those characteristics, they're up to bad shit.
- 56:14Her wife is shit. She's fantastic.
- 56:18Nobody will miss her if she's gone.
- 56:21OK, so Julianne doesn't want to do the dinner part.
- 56:24He's like, why can't we just go straight to the game?
- 56:26And Shep is like, it's a process, It's a ritual.
- 56:30The game relies on integrity and objectivity, So keep your
- 56:34fucking hands to yourself, you creep.
- 56:36Yeah, he's like, you got to only observe.
- 56:38That's all you can fucking do. He's like what happened last
- 56:40year was unacceptable and for a long time.
- 56:43We don't know what happened last year until.
- 56:46We figure it out in a bad way, yeah.
- 56:49So they are summoned to dinner, but they cannot bring their
- 56:52possessions in. I love this because Duggans
- 56:56collects all of their keys and cell phones in a bowl and he
- 57:01grabs all of the purses and then sets them down right where
- 57:04everybody could have already reached it, like.
- 57:06Yeah, Duggan's. So they, yeah, they go in, they
- 57:12sit down at their tables. They have assigned seats.
- 57:16Callaway sees that the window is boarded up.
- 57:18So interesting. Not a good sign.
- 57:21Yeah, yeah, a house like this. It's not like it would take them
- 57:24any time at all to have somebody come and fix the window.
- 57:26This is. And he's already suspicious.
- 57:29So yeah. And I don't know why I made
- 57:31this, no, but I just thought it was important that cow like
- 57:33pushed Linda. I just.
- 57:35I like cow. We don't get enough of him.
- 57:37I wish we had seen more of him. Yeah, he seems like a nicest
- 57:41dude. Like, granted, I didn't watch a
- 57:43whole lot of My Name Is Earl either, and he was my favorite
- 57:46part of that show. I didn't watch a lot of it.
- 57:48He always seemed like a a good guy in that show.
- 57:50Yeah. Yeah, I I thought, I thought it
- 57:52would have been Peter here willing her in because they're
- 57:54going to be, you know, like sitting next to each other.
- 57:56But Rob Wells? Kind of.
- 57:58It's like, yeah, fuck you. Yeah, and I don't know, maybe he
- 58:02calculated the odds of what it would be like to show.
- 58:04Compassion to his. Fellow players, yeah.
- 58:07Equations going on in his. Yeah, yeah, I want that meme of
- 58:11the like imagining the the algebra and whatnot.
- 58:16All right, so they sit down. They are served dinner with
- 58:19steak and wine. Definitely done on purpose.
- 58:22It's rib eye and fluegua fluegua.
- 58:27Yeah, I don't even know what that is.
- 58:28Apparently it's liver because like they they say yeah, you eat
- 58:32some of the liver too. It is.
- 58:35Hold on, let's look it up. They mention liver in this.
- 58:37They do mention liver, so fluegua specialty food made from
- 58:43the liver of a duck or goose. No cow.
- 58:46So yeah, they they've also got some mashed potatoes and
- 58:49asparagus and I guess having been invited to a dinner party
- 58:55and having been a lifelong vegetarian, didn't think to tell
- 58:58the person that she's a vegetarian.
- 59:00How do you, as a vegan, slash long time vegetarian like?
- 59:07How did you feel about this? Yeah.
- 59:08It just, it's kind of one of those like you wouldn't do this
- 59:11if you had an allergy either, you know, you'd be like, hey, I
- 59:15appreciate the invitation. I have some dietary
- 59:18restrictions. Are these going to be able to be
- 59:21accommodated? Yeah, that's generally how I
- 59:25tend to approach that. I know when we did the dinner
- 59:28with Greg Nicotero last year, we checked the menu ahead of time
- 59:32to make sure it was fine before we learned it was fixed menu.
- 59:35Yep. So that was a problem.
- 59:36But that was still an attempt at due diligence.
- 59:39Yeah. So it's just.
- 59:42Yeah, in this scenario though he didn't ask.
- 59:45He probably already knew, cuz like what I was reading before
- 59:48is like they were under the impression Jeffrey Combs that,
- 59:51like, this guy already had taps on everybody.
- 59:53Yeah. Oh, he definitely did.
- 59:55Yeah, he. So he probably already knew that
- 59:57she is a vegetarian and that Conway is sober.
- 1:00:01So he's like, all right, steak and wine, That's gonna be your
- 1:00:03dinner tonight. Yeah.
- 1:00:05So he's like, let's do $10,000 for you to eat all of that.
- 1:00:10Also, I think it's funny because Linda's like they they all still
- 1:00:13think that this is like just a nice little dinner party.
- 1:00:16And Linda's like. Oh, that's nice.
- 1:00:17How long have you been a vegetarian?
- 1:00:19And Iris is like, oh, well, actually most of my life.
- 1:00:22OK, fun game. Like Chef just cuts him off.
- 1:00:25Yeah, I felt that like for you because I've been sitting with
- 1:00:29you when you've had this conversation, this exact
- 1:00:31conversation with so many people during dinners.
- 1:00:33Well, and here's the thing. There's a way that people ask it
- 1:00:36that you know if they're going to be like nice, are politely
- 1:00:40interested, versus waiting to be an asshole about it.
- 1:00:44Cuz like somebody like Vanilla was like, that's nice.
- 1:00:46How long have you been a vegetarian versus like, why are
- 1:00:49you a vegetarian? Yeah, there's a way.
- 1:00:53There's a tone and a wording to the question that lets you know
- 1:00:56how that conversation's gonna go.
- 1:00:58And you also know I get the impression with her, since this
- 1:01:01is where we first really learn it, that she doesn't go around
- 1:01:05saying it all the time like she's much like me.
- 1:01:08I only bring it up if I actually have to because I don't want to
- 1:01:11have this conversation. Yeah, yeah, that's fair.
- 1:01:14So, OK, yeah, she's offered $10,000 to eat the steak.
- 1:01:18And she does. And as soon as she starts eating
- 1:01:21the steak, he starts tearing into her and making her feel
- 1:01:24like shit. And also, this is how you know
- 1:01:26this guy's a fucking asshole. He's like lifelong commitment,
- 1:01:29wiped away for a mere $10,000. That's game changing money to a
- 1:01:35lot of. People, you clearly know what
- 1:01:37the bank account situations look for all the people at this
- 1:01:40table, that is not a mere 10,000 dollars.
- 1:01:43Yeah, I and I'm gonna be honest, as much as like it, half my life
- 1:01:48I haven't eaten meat. Like if this offer was put in
- 1:01:51front of me, I would do it. Dude, I would eat so much.
- 1:01:54I would I would eat a lot of weird shit for $10,000.
- 1:01:59Like, for real. That's an easy ask.
- 1:02:01And it's like, it's one of those things too, that it's like, this
- 1:02:04is definitely like a personal moral thing for me.
- 1:02:07I hold very strongly to it. Since going vegan, I've also
- 1:02:11learned to that apparently my body just hasn't been tolerating
- 1:02:14dairy that well most of my life anyway, and it was kind of a
- 1:02:16good call to get rid of it. But it's such a weird thing with
- 1:02:21stuff like this because it almost is kind of a luxury to be
- 1:02:25able to eat that way. Not like a huge luxury, but
- 1:02:28like, you know, I I have the option to be a little bit choosy
- 1:02:31with what I get right? But then there's like this
- 1:02:34further luxury that she doesn't have, where she can just turn
- 1:02:37down $10,000 in the name of like her personal morals.
- 1:02:42And that was like a thing where it can be like it was a one off
- 1:02:44thing. Like I was offered $10,000.
- 1:02:46Of course I'm going to fucking do that.
- 1:02:48Yes, yeah, but then this is where it gets it casually ramps
- 1:02:53it up. It's, it's the trolley problem.
- 1:02:55But we're changing the scenario, You know, because he turns to
- 1:02:59Shep, turns to Conway and asks why, if he doesn't like the wine
- 1:03:02and he goes, Oh well, I don't drink, He goes, oh, are you
- 1:03:05recovering alcoholic? And he goes, that's none of your
- 1:03:06fucking business. He goes, well, you're asking me
- 1:03:08for money. And I think it is, especially
- 1:03:09considering your health problems and your debts are a direct
- 1:03:12result of your drinking. He's like, I will give you
- 1:03:15$10,000 to drink that glass of wine.
- 1:03:16And he was like, no, I've been sober for 16 years.
- 1:03:19That's a lot of hard work. And so then they bring over a
- 1:03:23full decanter of Scotch, and he says $50,000 to drink that.
- 1:03:28So 50,000 to do that or you can choose the wine for 10,000.
- 1:03:32So you can either have like a momentary slip with the glass of
- 1:03:35wine, or you can go full off the rails with 50,000.
- 1:03:38And this is a whole different thing because, you know, coming
- 1:03:42off of an alcohol abuse disorder, putting in all of that
- 1:03:45work, it's so different than just, like, you know, making a
- 1:03:49moral decision to not eat meat. He does the same thing.
- 1:03:52Yeah. He's like, well, she just like
- 1:03:54threw away all of her morals for meat there.
- 1:03:56And he's like, it's totally different.
- 1:03:57Yeah, it is. It is totally different.
- 1:03:59And I respect to the people at the table, they weren't
- 1:04:03encouraging him the same way they were encouraging her.
- 1:04:06Yeah, they all seem to understand the difference.
- 1:04:08And I think it's also part of, like they understand Dire
- 1:04:11Straits. So they get like the difference
- 1:04:14between dangling $10,000 in front of a vegetarian versus
- 1:04:1750,000 in front of a recovering alcoholic.
- 1:04:20Yeah, again. Like, that's a lot of fucking
- 1:04:23money. It is a lot of fucking money,
- 1:04:25but also like God the the mental and physical process of going
- 1:04:31through recovery like that. It's sinister.
- 1:04:33It's it's fucked up. He knew what he was doing there,
- 1:04:35so he he chooses the the cancer, obviously.
- 1:04:38Yeah, $50,000. $50,000 He's desperate, considering
- 1:04:43everything that we know so far. Yeah, so this is where they
- 1:04:47officially begin the game. Shepherd starts going over to
- 1:04:50the rules. Basically you have 15 seconds to
- 1:04:54decide on the would you rather scenario that he presents to
- 1:04:57you. Only you have to complete the.
- 1:04:59Would you rather? This isn't hypothetical, right?
- 1:05:02You keep going until you're unable to continue, and then
- 1:05:04you're eliminated. If you refuse, you're eliminated
- 1:05:07and it continues going. Or if you fail to complete your
- 1:05:10task, then you're eliminated and it keeps going until the final
- 1:05:14two where they have a round and then there's one person left
- 1:05:16standing and they are the winner.
- 1:05:18They will receive whatever it is that they are needing.
- 1:05:21Yep, and he gives them all one last chance to walk out and.
- 1:05:24Comedy stands up, he starts to walk out and then he has.
- 1:05:28And this was a really smart psychological move on Chef's
- 1:05:32part. I hate to give him that, but
- 1:05:34having that $50,000 cash in hand, seeing what it looked like
- 1:05:39and imagining what he could have gotten, and he's like, fuck in
- 1:05:42for a penny and for a pound, You know, like.
- 1:05:44Well, he could have walked out with it.
- 1:05:45He grabbed it for a second. He finished the decanter.
- 1:05:48So he was. He's good and drunk at this
- 1:05:50point too, so he's not making the best decisions.
- 1:05:53But it also makes you wonder how much more he needed.
- 1:05:56Yeah, right. Yeah, $50,000 definitely was not
- 1:05:59going to cover what like situation he was in.
- 1:06:02Most of these people are probably in the exact same case.
- 1:06:04Yeah, so everybody's there. Game begins.
- 1:06:07Bevins Dugans. He's a he is a former M15 agent,
- 1:06:14so he is Bird Poking Nurse. Yep, he was an interrogator,
- 1:06:17too. And he brings in his own
- 1:06:18personal interrogation device, which is a car battery and a
- 1:06:22Pretty Little shiny headband. Yep, actually 2 Pretty Little
- 1:06:25shiny headbands. Because the game is two people
- 1:06:29will be wearing the shiny little headband.
- 1:06:30One person has a remote they can hit the red button to shock
- 1:06:33themselves, the blue button to shock the next person.
- 1:06:35So this is the order that we have them in.
- 1:06:39Starts with cow, cow and. Oh, wait, Amy.
- 1:06:42Before we do that, before we start with it, Conway is like,
- 1:06:46no, I'm I'm absolutely not doing this.
- 1:06:48And he's like, well, you already had your chance and he goes, I
- 1:06:51don't care, I'm not doing this. So he starts to walk away and
- 1:06:53get shot. Oh yeah, that's right.
- 1:06:55Yeah. And then Linda, is Linda not
- 1:06:58wearing a hearing aid? I don't know what's happening.
- 1:07:00She was like, I would like to leave.
- 1:07:01And he was like, clearly no. Yeah, I don't understand why.
- 1:07:06Like, even he is, like, he's very amazing.
- 1:07:09Fear. Yeah, like it's not an option.
- 1:07:13You guys are definitely. Here, yeah, like Conway is still
- 1:07:15taking his final death rattle. Like.
- 1:07:17What is still, she's still playing the old lady in a
- 1:07:19wheelchair car like, hey, would you open the door for me please?
- 1:07:24It's not happening in here, Linda.
- 1:07:25Yeah, so this is where we cut to the game starting.
- 1:07:30The first person is Cal. He can electrocute himself or
- 1:07:32Amy. Amy gives this panicked little
- 1:07:34like shaking over head now and you feel sorry for her for a
- 1:07:38second because she does look terrified and so Cal
- 1:07:41electrocutes himself. It's Amy's turn.
- 1:07:43She can choose herself or Linda before the question is even
- 1:07:46fully asked. She talks on that.
- 1:07:49Yeah, she's kind of an asshole here, yeah.
- 1:07:52And then we get to Linda and she can choose herself or Peter.
- 1:07:54She barely survived the first shock, so she shoots.
- 1:07:57She chooses Peter, and nobody can blame her.
- 1:07:59Meanwhile, Dr. Barden's getting his gun.
- 1:08:01Getting in his car. Yep.
- 1:08:04Now we're at Travis. Who?
- 1:08:06We don't see Peter's game. We don't know.
- 1:08:10Presumably he could either shock himself or Travis.
- 1:08:15I'm guessing Travis got the shock because when it's Travis's
- 1:08:18turn, he shocks Lucas. Yeah.
- 1:08:20And then Luke, this is like Iris.
- 1:08:22You can't handle getting shocked.
- 1:08:24We're not gonna do that to you, poor little baby.
- 1:08:26Iris. Yes, yeah, a little baby Iris
- 1:08:29and. That should be, actually.
- 1:08:36I would love it if you just started singing that too.
- 1:08:40The whole party just stops. And he's like stall for a
- 1:08:43second. I can handle another shock.
- 1:08:45I just need to recover real. Quick, Yeah.
- 1:08:47He's like, yeah, he's stalling, yeah.
- 1:08:49And she doesn't really have a way to stall and go, No.
- 1:08:53So if you missed, like his stall comment, she just seems kind of
- 1:08:56like a whiny baby that's not paying attention.
- 1:08:58Yeah, I say whiny baby because she doesn't want to get shocked,
- 1:09:01but you know what I mean? Yeah, poor little Iris.
- 1:09:03Whiny baby here. Can't get, can't a little shock,
- 1:09:07but she chooses herself. Yeah, well, so Lucas, obviously
- 1:09:11he chooses himself first, yeah. And then she's got to choose
- 1:09:15herself or cow. And I think she's like, I need
- 1:09:18you guys to like stop treating me like a child and.
- 1:09:20She shocks herself. Yeah, she's.
- 1:09:22Like, I can do this. And so that means at this point,
- 1:09:24Amy's the only one who hasn't received a shock.
- 1:09:28So she took the generosity of another person and did not pay
- 1:09:31that forward. She is the person that breaks
- 1:09:34the pay it forward at Starbucks, which I've done that before.
- 1:09:36I've broken it, so it's fine. Well, it's the stupid thing to
- 1:09:38begin with. Well, you don't know what the
- 1:09:40person behind you is. Doing they could be ordering 55
- 1:09:42tots like. 55 tots, yeah. Or they could be somebody who
- 1:09:46has a brother that like, you know, needs a bone marrow
- 1:09:49transplant and you're like, OK fucking now I got your coffee
- 1:09:52too. This is my brother's one thing
- 1:09:53that he wanted today. And mine.
- 1:09:57OK, so round two. They now have 30 seconds.
- 1:10:01In between the rounds, the group is briefly having a conversation
- 1:10:04with themselves about if they can try and distract some of the
- 1:10:08guards, maybe overpower them. And then Julian comes in and
- 1:10:12he's just gross. He's just kind of gross
- 1:10:14immediately. And he's like, you guys are poor
- 1:10:16and that's gross and I hate that.
- 1:10:18And Travis is like, hey, we're fucking people, how about you
- 1:10:21show us some respect? And Julian's like, thank you for
- 1:10:23your service, You're still poor and suck.
- 1:10:25And apparently him standing up from the table and shouting at
- 1:10:30Julian was a death sentence. Yeah, I I wonder if he went back
- 1:10:33there and told him he's like, all right, like, really fuck
- 1:10:36with Travis this round, 'cause, like it seems like everything is
- 1:10:39targeted to Travis after this right here.
- 1:10:42And you know, shit's about to go down because they're bringing in
- 1:10:44the the plastic sheet. Dude, when they started rolling
- 1:10:48there, I was like, all right, put it up on the walls and
- 1:10:49around the table. I'm like, what the fuck is
- 1:10:51happening here? I would be panicking if I was
- 1:10:54them. So they have 30 seconds in round
- 1:10:56two to either choose to stab a person in the thigh with an ice
- 1:11:00pick or strike somebody with a jumbuck so the round starts and
- 1:11:06Iris can either stab cow or whip Travis three times with a
- 1:11:10jumbuck. And the concern is hitting the
- 1:11:15femoral artery because that's that's a death sentence pretty
- 1:11:19much because you know, these people aren't gonna apply any
- 1:11:22kind of first aid to you. So she is like, I just, I'm
- 1:11:26gonna do the, I'm gonna do the whipping.
- 1:11:28And they actually make them do the whipping.
- 1:11:30Yeah, 'cause she tries to, she gives like a soft little whip at
- 1:11:32first. Like, no, that's not gonna
- 1:11:34count. That probably still hurt a
- 1:11:35little bit too, 'cause you could see Travis still flinching.
- 1:11:37Yeah, he probably still didn't feel good.
- 1:11:40It just didn't cut his flesh. So that wasn't good enough.
- 1:11:42Yeah, so she has to give three hard lickings and she does.
- 1:11:46He's cut up bad. So then it's Lucas's turn.
- 1:11:50He can either stab Iris or whip Travis three times.
- 1:11:55I think Travis this feels really hard.
- 1:11:58I feel bad for my other Travis. Out there.
- 1:12:02So he's like, I just, we just have to worry about the
- 1:12:05ephemeral artery, man. I'm sorry.
- 1:12:06I was like, it's fine, Fuck it. It's fine.
- 1:12:10And then it's Travis's turn and they're like Travis.
- 1:12:13I'm sure you're relieved it's your turn.
- 1:12:14He's like something like that. I love that as a response.
- 1:12:17And he goes. Now you can either stab Lucas
- 1:12:21or. Have Bevan whip you.
- 1:12:23I was. Like.
- 1:12:24Or have whippings administered by Duggan's and Duggan's don't
- 1:12:33play. Yeah, Well, and he's well, he's
- 1:12:35in him when five agent yeah. He was an interrogator, yeah.
- 1:12:39Hard hits. He's that man's all muscle like
- 1:12:43he's. You pointed out no neck.
- 1:12:45No neck. His neck is like missing from.
- 1:12:47All the shoulder trap head. A man's like a bullet bill.
- 1:12:51Yeah. Basically, yeah.
- 1:12:53He's just, he's just like a cylinder up there.
- 1:12:55Yeah, and he's like, Travis has a moment.
- 1:12:58He was like, what did I fucking do to you guys to deserve this?
- 1:13:01Oh, really? That's what I thought.
- 1:13:03Fine, Whip me. And Lucas was like, no,
- 1:13:05seriously, stabbing he goes, no, I'm not gonna stab somebody.
- 1:13:08He's like, I don't wanna stab you.
- 1:13:09I don't wanna stab you. Like that is worse to him than
- 1:13:12being whipped. And I respect the man for this.
- 1:13:16I. Respect it too.
- 1:13:17Also, isn't it kind of interesting that Lucas has been
- 1:13:22the one saying, like, you can't stab in the thigh because of the
- 1:13:25femoral artery and now he's the one saying, no, you can totally
- 1:13:29do it, it's fine. Yeah, like he encouraged the
- 1:13:31previous whippings to Travis. Yeah, he did.
- 1:13:34And he's like, yeah, I'm feeling a little bit guilty about it.
- 1:13:36Go ahead and stab me in the thigh, man.
- 1:13:38Yeah, I wonder too, since he was like an Iraq veteran.
- 1:13:43I wonder. If he was like a play into it.
- 1:13:44Yeah, if this is like if he was like a prisoner of war or
- 1:13:47something, at some point he had, like that was part of his PTSD
- 1:13:50maybe. Or maybe just like PTSD from,
- 1:13:53like, having to shoot at people. You know, like the realities of,
- 1:13:57like, the thought war is a concept versus like actually
- 1:14:01living through it. I can't even imagine, 'cause I
- 1:14:03haven't been there and there. There's a lot that you see and
- 1:14:08experience and who knows what it is.
- 1:14:11But clearly he has no interest in doling out violence right
- 1:14:15now. Yeah, so he's he accepts the
- 1:14:18whippings. Honorable man, yeah.
- 1:14:21So. He collapses.
- 1:14:23Yeah, we do. Cut to Doctor Barden sneaking up
- 1:14:26to the Lambrick house. I call bullshit that they don't
- 1:14:29have a security system out there.
- 1:14:30Yeah. No, there's no way that's a
- 1:14:33gated house. For sure, Peter now has the
- 1:14:36option to stab Linda or whip Travis and he's like you are
- 1:14:40paralyzed. I look, no, the way that he see
- 1:14:43this is the star of where I'm like, this is Ricky because the
- 1:14:45way he like, he's like, whoa. I mean you're fucking paralyzed.
- 1:14:48So, like, you know, maybe it'll be OK if I stab you and I.
- 1:14:51Love this reaction, She goes. What?
- 1:14:53They're still real. Like, I still got blood flow and
- 1:14:57shit down there. Like I still have the artery
- 1:14:59too. She's like, I still have the
- 1:15:01very real option to bleed out, which we find out because he
- 1:15:04stabs her anyway. I just love his reasoning where
- 1:15:07he's like, well, I mean, you're paralyzed.
- 1:15:09This shit's not going to affect you at all.
- 1:15:10It's like, no. So Lucas is like all right in
- 1:15:16and out real quick, and then he is not real quick with the
- 1:15:20stabbing stab. I OK, And credit to the sound
- 1:15:23design for this because, you know, we've had all of the
- 1:15:27whipping and that's really loud and violent sounding, but the
- 1:15:30ice pick is just a little. Yeah, yeah, it's really.
- 1:15:33Like and it's almost chilling how quiet it is.
- 1:15:36Especially because when he pulls it out, she immediately is like
- 1:15:38losing blood and you know she's fucked.
- 1:15:40And then they're trying. They're saying tie a tourniquet,
- 1:15:42use your belt, tie a tourniquet. And it's it's Linda's turn to
- 1:15:47choose. And they're not like pausing the
- 1:15:49game. And he goes, give us a second
- 1:15:51does the tourniquet go above or below?
- 1:15:54Above, above, I I just love this here and Linda's just like
- 1:15:59having all this shit going on and she still has to make a
- 1:16:01decision in 30 seconds and. It takes her no time.
- 1:16:03She's She's Fry and Amy. Yeah, like they're like, all
- 1:16:06right, Linda, hurry up and make a choice.
- 1:16:08And then as they're saying it, she just grabs eyes, pick, and
- 1:16:10just just like, stabs Amy and then Amy.
- 1:16:13Me, who takes the elbow right to the nose.
- 1:16:15Yeah, she's. Like you scratched me.
- 1:16:18Yeah. Which this kind of warms the
- 1:16:21rest of the people, not that people are participating, but
- 1:16:24the shepherd, the foundation people towards Amy, they're
- 1:16:28like, all right, Amy, well. She's by she.
- 1:16:30Yeah, you can. You can whip Travis or stab.
- 1:16:33Anybody. Yeah, she's like, all right, can
- 1:16:35I stab anybody wherever I want to?
- 1:16:38And. He goes shoulder's down.
- 1:16:41He he says that as she's stabbing, she doesn't even wait
- 1:16:44for an answer, so she, like, stabs Iris right in the stomach.
- 1:16:49Yeah, it's like in the ribs and they're like she missed the
- 1:16:53lung. I don't believe she would have
- 1:16:55with where she was stabbed. She was she was stabbed, right?
- 1:16:58There. Look, she she could have gone
- 1:17:01for a more fatal when, Especially since like right
- 1:17:03here, she's like, all right, you guys are like, playing the game
- 1:17:05Wrong. We're obviously supposed to be
- 1:17:07killing each other here. It's about who's the last person
- 1:17:09here. She's like, we can't all be on a
- 1:17:12team because that's not how this game is going to work.
- 1:17:15But then she goes for that she is.
- 1:17:16Right. But that doesn't make her not an
- 1:17:18asshole. It's it's just like in The Big
- 1:17:21Lebowski. Yeah, you're not wrong, Walt.
- 1:17:23You're just an asshole. Yeah, you're just kind of an
- 1:17:25asshole, Amy. Everybody's going to hate you
- 1:17:27for this. You're going to suffer for this
- 1:17:28one. So Doctor Barden is in the
- 1:17:32basement, Travis has fallen out of his chair, but he's still
- 1:17:35breathing and Duggan's is like, remarkably, still alive.
- 1:17:40And Ricky's over there with Linda going, Linda, Linda,
- 1:17:44Linda, Linda, like Zoe trying to wake us up to feed her in the
- 1:17:48mornings. And he goes, I think, I think
- 1:17:51Linda's, she's unconscious. And Duggan's comes over, he
- 1:17:55goes, she's not unconscious. And Peter's like, OK, good.
- 1:17:59And Duncans goes She's dead, yeah.
- 1:18:02She played out really fast. She really did.
- 1:18:06So all right, now it is Cal's turn.
- 1:18:09He is given the choice of stabbing Iris or.
- 1:18:13No stabbing Lucas? No.
- 1:18:14Stabbing Lucas, OK or administering 3 more lashes to
- 1:18:19Travis? And he says, I think Travis
- 1:18:21probably just wants to be out of this.
- 1:18:23And Lucas is like, that's not your choice to make because
- 1:18:26they're making it my choice. Yeah, I have to make a choice.
- 1:18:28Yeah, he's like, Amy's right. We need to start like actually
- 1:18:31kicking on, like picking off the people that are already kind of
- 1:18:34out. I'm kind of curious.
- 1:18:36I really wish we'd had a little bit more of their specific
- 1:18:40backstories because I know when the Food First came out, Lucas
- 1:18:43said. I haven't had a meal like this
- 1:18:44in so long, and Cal was like, I've never had a meal like this.
- 1:18:47Yeah. So I wonder if I wonder if the
- 1:18:51seedings were meant to be, like, poorest to least poor.
- 1:18:55Dude, you might be right. I don't know.
- 1:18:58That's a. Cuz yeah, him and Amy are right
- 1:18:59across from each other. There might be some correlation
- 1:19:02with that there. That's interesting.
- 1:19:04So I'm just. That's why he's probably like,
- 1:19:06she's right. I'm super bored right now.
- 1:19:08I need to beat the show this guy.
- 1:19:09Yeah, he's like, we really are just gonna be all for ourselves.
- 1:19:14Except, yeah. And then they take Travis away
- 1:19:17because he is still alive, but he he can't participate anymore.
- 1:19:21And what's really chilling to me is Duggan's still ship.
- 1:19:26He won't die for, I don't know how long.
- 1:19:28Maybe a few hours, maybe a few days, but he can't play either
- 1:19:31way. Are they just gonna drag him off
- 1:19:33to like a coat closet or something to bleed out like?
- 1:19:37I wish whenever we have this chaos later on that we see where
- 1:19:41he's at or. What?
- 1:19:42Yeah, just like him, crumpled up in a corner with the umbrella
- 1:19:46stand or something. Yeah, I mean, that would be
- 1:19:48dark. Like he's like on the coat
- 1:19:50hanger. But like, yeah, it would be like
- 1:19:52kind of interesting to see what they plan to do with him.
- 1:19:57OK, So yeah, he's gone. Let's see.
- 1:20:00This is where Lucas Cal Peter attack the guards.
- 1:20:06Amy jumps back. Because she never wanted a part
- 1:20:08of this. And then they tell Iris to run.
- 1:20:11Cal gets shot and the others are subdued in various ways.
- 1:20:15Duggan's and Julian go to look for Iris.
- 1:20:17Julian finds her in the basement and gets really gropey.
- 1:20:20And it's unpleasant. And Dr. Barnes, like Iris, we're
- 1:20:24getting out of here. And then he gets shot.
- 1:20:26She stabs Julian too, to, like, thin him off.
- 1:20:30It's. There's a way to do this to make
- 1:20:32it more impactful. Like I think of like the
- 1:20:34strangers where Dennis comes and I like that we have a little bit
- 1:20:38of build up to him coming there and like him being annoyed and
- 1:20:42then he's, you know, gets his hell up.
- 1:20:45Yeah, you're right. They do it so much better with
- 1:20:47the strangers just for this right here.
- 1:20:49I just. I never got the impression that
- 1:20:52it was ever gonna like it just always felt futile.
- 1:20:55The. Other implication of this is
- 1:20:58that Doctor Bardon said fuck Linda, she deserves this because
- 1:21:02she was also at his clinic. It's like, I get Linda, but
- 1:21:06Iris, she's all right. Yeah.
- 1:21:09I hate it. Whenever I see Linda on my
- 1:21:12schedule that day, I go fuck Iris.
- 1:21:16I like Iris. Yeah, I'm going to go save Iris.
- 1:21:21It's kind of fucked up. I don't even think about that
- 1:21:22because they definitely go to the same doctor.
- 1:21:25Yeah. Man, that's fucked up.
- 1:21:27All right? So yeah, he's like, all right,
- 1:21:28Iris, don't worry, I'm going to save you.
- 1:21:30And then Duggan shoots him. Yeah, they get upstairs, Duggan
- 1:21:35tells the other guys to take Julian upstairs.
- 1:21:37Julian's pissed because he's been stabbed in the thigh
- 1:21:40appropriately. He was trying to rape somebody.
- 1:21:42She. Was stabbed as a Dick.
- 1:21:43Yeah, maybe that's what she was going for.
- 1:21:45But you know, she only had the one ice pick and the one shot.
- 1:21:49So he's like, pissed that she tried to run away and stabbed
- 1:21:52him. And she gets to go back to the
- 1:21:53game. She's not being shot.
- 1:21:54He's like, what's going on? He goes, you're going upstairs,
- 1:21:56you're in time, time out, young man.
- 1:21:58We're going to take our respect in the game.
- 1:22:00You know, Doug has definitely like had to deal with Julian
- 1:22:03growing up and has just been waiting for a moment like he's
- 1:22:06put him in time out before. Yeah, I I do have a feeling
- 1:22:10though, because whenever he tells Shepard and he's like, all
- 1:22:13right, yeah, he tried to rape her and he's.
- 1:22:15Like and that's. Like, very explicitly the
- 1:22:17language. That's what he says, Yeah.
- 1:22:18And then? Julian was trying to rape Iris,
- 1:22:20yeah. And then he's like, all right,
- 1:22:21excuse me. So he goes upstairs for a minute
- 1:22:23and he, like, walks the door behind.
- 1:22:25Him. He took like the ice pick and
- 1:22:26like stab Julian again. I've I would hope he did
- 1:22:30something. I my thought is like maybe the
- 1:22:31like lashing like the whip, just like fucking he did something to
- 1:22:36him. He comes back fast.
- 1:22:38But I do think either he ordered some of his people there to do
- 1:22:41something to you. Know what, though?
- 1:22:42I could see like a Jeffrey comes in if he just walks into a room
- 1:22:45real quick, slaps you, you see stars, and by the time you,
- 1:22:49like, have reoriented yourself, he's already shutting the door
- 1:22:52behind him. Jeffrey comes, slaps me as a two
- 1:22:54slap man like both hands slap slap.
- 1:22:56Yeah. No, I'm imagining front hand,
- 1:22:58backhand. Front hand, backhand, Yeah,
- 1:23:00yeah, yeah. Front hand, Backhand, other.
- 1:23:02Hand and you know, he's got like that little what is the pinky
- 1:23:05ring called? The Cignette ring.
- 1:23:08He's definitely got that and it's like leaving an impression
- 1:23:10on Julian's face. I think he does that and then
- 1:23:13with the left hand or the other hand, he just like slaps him on
- 1:23:16the butt. It's like good game.
- 1:23:17He just walks off. He's just.
- 1:23:18Spanking because he's a bad boy. Time out and he just walks out.
- 1:23:25OK. Moving on.
- 1:23:25OK. Property.
- 1:23:27Yeah. Well, first he, you know, tell
- 1:23:29Cyrus that it's sorry, my son's rapey, but his mom's dead.
- 1:23:32So. Yeah, that was a weird thing.
- 1:23:34It was like ever since his mom died, he can't control himself.
- 1:23:37He's. A.
- 1:23:38What I'm hearing is that you are not an active parent chef.
- 1:23:43Yeah. You left the raising of your
- 1:23:45child to your wife. Your wife or dugans?
- 1:23:49Wife and Dugans Side plot Dugans and the wife were having a
- 1:23:53secret of figure and it was never uncovered.
- 1:23:55That's Duggan's child. That's why Duggan's is so
- 1:23:59comfortable sending him up to his room.
- 1:24:00Yeah, he's. Yeah.
- 1:24:02Oh boy. There's some more here.
- 1:24:06All right, so round three again, 30 seconds to make a decision.
- 1:24:11He says when you chose to come here, you were choosing between
- 1:24:14the known and the unknown, and that's what this game is.
- 1:24:17So you're all gonna have an envelope in front of you,
- 1:24:20they've just been randomly dealt, and you can either choose
- 1:24:23to do whatever is on the card in the envelope, or you can be held
- 1:24:27underwater in that barrel. For two minutes, yeah.
- 1:24:31God. As soon as they will in that
- 1:24:32barrel, I'm like. Fuck yeah.
- 1:24:35So. And he says that the punishments
- 1:24:38range from not so bad to pretty gnarly.
- 1:24:42And I call bullshit on that because we know what every
- 1:24:44single one of the punishments were, and none of them's one
- 1:24:46that I want to do. I would have liked for one of
- 1:24:49them to be like a freebie though.
- 1:24:50I feel like that would have been interesting.
- 1:24:52Yeah, but yeah, but instead, OK, we.
- 1:24:56So we started off with Peter, who is the gambler, and he goes
- 1:24:59into this whole rant about how like, well, you probably did
- 1:25:02your research on me and this is like a gambler thing here.
- 1:25:05Listen, literally every time I've ever played rock, paper,
- 1:25:09scissors, I go through this in my head where I'm like, well, I
- 1:25:12just threw scissors. So they won't expect me to throw
- 1:25:14scissors again, but maybe they will and so they'll throw rocks.
- 1:25:17So I'm going to throw paper. I like how he does all of this
- 1:25:20to like ultimately be like, so yeah, obviously envelope like
- 1:25:24didn't sound. That doesn't feel obvious.
- 1:25:26That's This is why you're in debt, Peter.
- 1:25:29You're bad game with Peter, so he opens up his envelope.
- 1:25:32Feel like this is the thing. I'm a casual gambler.
- 1:25:37I go for the sure thing. Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 1:25:40I'll do a slot machine. So I'm not gonna lose any more
- 1:25:43money than what I put in there. Maybe I'll get $10 in quarters
- 1:25:45back out. And that's fine.
- 1:25:47I feel like he should have gone with the sure thing.
- 1:25:49The thing he knew he could survive.
- 1:25:51See The thing is though, you gotta think of it.
- 1:25:53So 2 minutes being held underwater, I think about it and
- 1:25:58I'm like, OK, that's maybe doable for like a normal like
- 1:26:01your average person. Like he He says specifically
- 1:26:04that it's designed to drown people.
- 1:26:06So apparently, like most people can't hold their breath for two
- 1:26:09minutes. But it can be done, yeah.
- 1:26:13I think it's not being used in situations where you know you're
- 1:26:15gonna be dumped in and you have a chance to breathe.
- 1:26:18Not that they did that for Amy, but she wasn't.
- 1:26:20Yeah, 4. Minutes.
- 1:26:20Anyway, so I don't. I don't necessarily blame them
- 1:26:22because, like, yeah, the envelope.
- 1:26:24Like, where? What's my other option here?
- 1:26:25His is like a little firecracker, which turns out to
- 1:26:28not actually be a firecracker is actually dynamite.
- 1:26:31See now I that would have felt targeted to me if it had been me
- 1:26:36because. Oh yeah.
- 1:26:38I have an experience with the Firecracker going off on me.
- 1:26:42I didn't lose any fingers or toes fortunately, but it I that
- 1:26:46happened when I was like 3 or 4 years old and I cannot be
- 1:26:49outside with fireworks to this day.
- 1:26:50Yep, it's still left an yeah. Impression on Yeah, we've gone
- 1:26:54to Legends games before and forgotten that it's a firework
- 1:26:56Friday and Travis has had to take me sobbing to the car.
- 1:27:00So yeah, this is a nightmare to me.
- 1:27:03And it's it made even worse when the firecrackers revealed to be
- 1:27:061/4 stick of dynamite. I was reading the interview.
- 1:27:09One of the interviews with Jeffrey comes already a couple,
- 1:27:11but somebody was like, so this is definitely also drawing on
- 1:27:15their past. It's like, no, I actually think
- 1:27:17that this is one of the true random moments in the thing.
- 1:27:19Because for Shepherd, like it's a game.
- 1:27:23He wants to be surprised by some of this stuff, too.
- 1:27:26Well, and plus, there also is kind of that animal instinct
- 1:27:28there. That part of me wants to know
- 1:27:30what all of the cards are where if it wasn't life or death, I
- 1:27:33probably would choose the card. But like knowing especially if
- 1:27:38I'm not going first like seeing Firecracker versus Barrel, I
- 1:27:41would go with the known. Oh yeah, for sure.
- 1:27:43Yeah, definitely. But there is a part of me that's
- 1:27:46like, but what if you get the good card?
- 1:27:48Exactly. Yeah.
- 1:27:49Thing is, no good cards. So OK, he's got his firecracker.
- 1:27:54And Lucas is like, just drop it. But Lucas fucked this up first.
- 1:27:57He did, man. He's like, he could have done
- 1:27:59that. He's like, no, you're not gonna
- 1:28:00drop it. We're gonna make him hold it
- 1:28:02tightly, tape it to his hands. They use.
- 1:28:04Half a fucking roll of duct tape.
- 1:28:06He didn't stand a chance and he goes.
- 1:28:08Just think about it though, Peter.
- 1:28:10It could be a dud. That's true.
- 1:28:13He's like, all right, if it's a dud, do I have to go again?
- 1:28:15He's like no. I love the way he thought.
- 1:28:19Yeah. It was like such a long no.
- 1:28:27And for this right here, I know I'm probably gonna die.
- 1:28:31You're not gonna survive dynamite like, you know right
- 1:28:34there. Point blank.
- 1:28:35So if I were him, I would have charged that somebody.
- 1:28:37He's got guns pointed at him, but you can maybe take a few
- 1:28:39shots. I would run to the nearest
- 1:28:42especially like to Shepherd. But now he lights it and he
- 1:28:46thinks it's a dud for a second. But then it finally blows up,
- 1:28:49his hands blown off, and he just collapses.
- 1:28:51People are covered in chunks of Peter Hand.
- 1:28:53Yep. And he has a heart attack, which
- 1:28:56is what kills him. Yep.
- 1:28:58So Lucas swaps for the envelope, even after what he just saw.
- 1:29:03This is the. One, and this is This is why
- 1:29:05this is the poster. Yes, he has to cut his eye,
- 1:29:09split his eye open with the Rizzo.
- 1:29:10He opens the card and it's just a picture of an eye.
- 1:29:12It's like, all right, what the fuck is that?
- 1:29:14I was like, ah, Yep, you have to cut open your eye with a razor.
- 1:29:19Which God, it's so fucking. Naughty.
- 1:29:22And I love the way the actor did this, where he's like, I can't
- 1:29:26do that, I can't do that. Like it's just it felt so raw
- 1:29:30and human, like. Yeah, I mean, that's one of the
- 1:29:33things like you can do that and walk away and be fine.
- 1:29:36Like see, The thing is, you could rock a cool eye patch.
- 1:29:39Afterwards. Psychological element, for sure.
- 1:29:42It is, yeah. And I also love how when he
- 1:29:46makes the decision, the camera's also like, I can't do this and
- 1:29:49it pans all the way across the table right when he does the
- 1:29:52cut. I know that was probably for,
- 1:29:54like, effects reasons, but like, I it's just kind of funny.
- 1:29:56Like, all right, the camera can't even handle this shit.
- 1:29:58We got Canada over here. So yeah, he cuts his eye.
- 1:30:01Next up, Iris. She goes for the barrel, the
- 1:30:04sure thing. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:05And chef's like not a risk taker.
- 1:30:10She's seen what she's fucking seen tonight.
- 1:30:12Yeah. I mean that's the wise decision
- 1:30:15right there. And so she spends the two
- 1:30:17minutes, she goes to Zen Place, thinks of Riley.
- 1:30:21He's saying about a dream that he keeps having where he's
- 1:30:24drowning and he's pulling everybody down with him and it's
- 1:30:26so goddamn depressing. This is like a trope in movies
- 1:30:30at this point, where if you're drowning, you're gonna have a
- 1:30:33vision of some sorts. Yeah, gonna have a vision of
- 1:30:36some sorts. And it's generally also gonna
- 1:30:38involve water, cuz that happened in that that movie, The 2B
- 1:30:42movie. What?
- 1:30:43Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking of.
- 1:30:45Also like final destination whenever she drives into the
- 1:30:48water. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:51So yeah, she miraculously survives.
- 1:30:54And you made a point here where it would have been cool if they
- 1:30:58actually played it out for two minutes.
- 1:31:00That way you could see. There is a part of me that I was
- 1:31:02like, wait, did this last for two minutes And then we were
- 1:31:04both like, no, there's no way that was a full 2 minutes. 2
- 1:31:06minutes is a it's a really long fucking time.
- 1:31:09It's definitely doable if you're somewhat healthy.
- 1:31:13Yeah, there. There was one thing that they
- 1:31:17did time it. It's on IMDb trivia.
- 1:31:20Oh, OK yeah, hold on. Let me pull it up.
- 1:31:22Should. Have known somebody in the world
- 1:31:23did that math for us? Yeah, well The thing is like
- 1:31:25they present it as a way that they make it seem as though she
- 1:31:30gets off like easy with it, but I don't think that they would
- 1:31:34have like cheated the system and this for her.
- 1:31:37Yeah, no, I just think like they probably filmed enough for two
- 1:31:41minutes and they're like, that's a really long time.
- 1:31:43Like it would be impactful, like as an audience to experience
- 1:31:47that full 2 minutes. But I also think that it kind of
- 1:31:50slows down some of the tension, I think.
- 1:31:53Well, honestly, you can make that sense by having shots of
- 1:31:56her struggling with the barrel and then shots of like, just
- 1:31:59have the ticking of the clock be really present because like that
- 1:32:02right there just gets you going. Yeah, I can see that.
- 1:32:04But she was on screen being like that for one minute and 16
- 1:32:09seconds. OK, so we didn't even see the
- 1:32:11last 44 seconds. Right.
- 1:32:12Yeah. Which kind of goes to put into
- 1:32:14perspective how long it really is.
- 1:32:16Yeah. But yeah, she's surprised.
- 1:32:18Yep, she survives. Then it's Amy's turn, and Shep
- 1:32:23makes sure to because Amy already looks like she's ready
- 1:32:26to grab for that envelope anyway.
- 1:32:28She is panicky in a way that we haven't really seen her be.
- 1:32:32Yeah, and he goes, are you going to try and face drowning?
- 1:32:36Maybe understand how your daughter felt when your husband
- 1:32:38was holding her underwater. She definitely didn't want that.
- 1:32:43What a yeah. And like it was clearly true.
- 1:32:45And I think her card was planted.
- 1:32:47I feel like a go. Fucking way.
- 1:32:49Yeah 'cause she gets the card with the barrel with the four on
- 1:32:52it, meaning she has to be in there for 4 minutes instead,
- 1:32:55which? They're like that's not possible
- 1:32:57and he's like it is possible. Look it up.
- 1:32:59It is. I mean, for if you're David
- 1:33:02Blaine, you know what? I.
- 1:33:04Mean, but you have to. Train for shit like.
- 1:33:06Exactly, yeah. Like a normal person's not going
- 1:33:08to be able to do that, so she's definitely going to die.
- 1:33:11And I only feel like I could do the two minutes because I did
- 1:33:14band for eight years. Yeah, I don't think I could do
- 1:33:17the two minutes. I think I'd be dead for that.
- 1:33:18And I and I run pretty regularly.
- 1:33:21So, like, I've got like a lot of that breath training, but I'm
- 1:33:23also fucked because I got the asthma.
- 1:33:24I was just going to say you have asthma, so your lungs are.
- 1:33:26Kind of. However, I am medicated now, so
- 1:33:29let's think about how well I did before we knew it was asthma.
- 1:33:31See The thing is though, you would probably be needing a puff
- 1:33:34on the asthma while watching all the events going on here, and I
- 1:33:38doubt he would. Purses at the beginning and I'd
- 1:33:39be like, can I go get my inhaler?
- 1:33:41And they'd be like, no choke bitch.
- 1:33:43Yep. They won't.
- 1:33:43Yeah, they won't let you have it.
- 1:33:45So she dies. Yeah, and they don't even let
- 1:33:47her get her breath. Duggan's is pretty cruel.
- 1:33:49With it, yeah. They're like Ready go, and she's
- 1:33:51like. Yeah.
- 1:33:52She dies pretty quickly, so the final round and he's like
- 1:33:56usually the first player has a distinct advantage, so we're
- 1:33:58going to flip a coin. Iris wins the coin toss, and the
- 1:34:02question like her would you rather is you can either both
- 1:34:07walk out of here, game's over, you all get nothing, or you can
- 1:34:13shoot Lucas, which that feels like the player.
- 1:34:17The first player not only has a distinct advantage, they have
- 1:34:20the only advantage. Yeah, like that ends the game.
- 1:34:23Yeah, that ends the game. Yeah.
- 1:34:26Or. Or.
- 1:34:26I wonder if maybe, like the second like if she had chosen
- 1:34:29that, if the question then would have come to him.
- 1:34:31Would you rather join her in walking out?
- 1:34:33Or I wonder if there was. That I bet you're right.
- 1:34:36So, and because Lucas is like, cool, this is all over and she's
- 1:34:40like wavering. And this is where Shep brings up
- 1:34:43her brother. He knows the right moments to
- 1:34:45like needle people. Yeah.
- 1:34:47And. Lucas's eye, by the way.
- 1:34:49Looking. Fucked.
- 1:34:51It's so swollen. They did a good.
- 1:34:53Job. Yeah, it it just.
- 1:34:55Yeah. The only critique I have is
- 1:34:58there's no blood on his face. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:35:00But yeah, it's it's you're so distracted by how fucked up his
- 1:35:04eye looks that you don't even notice that.
- 1:35:07So he starts to tell why he's there.
- 1:35:10But I also, here's the thing, We've gotten very little of
- 1:35:13Lucas. He has played the martyr the
- 1:35:15whole time. He has been team togetherness.
- 1:35:19There is a tiny part of me that wonders if there's like an
- 1:35:22alternate ending where Iris says yes, let's walk away.
- 1:35:27And then Lucas gets that question and he shoots her
- 1:35:30because he's like, I think we're not.
- 1:35:33He's like, you don't know why I'm here.
- 1:35:35I can tell you're here for your brother.
- 1:35:37I have three sisters. He's not really talking about
- 1:35:39why he's there. He's about to, he says.
- 1:35:41I've got three sisters and he's probably going to go into detail
- 1:35:44about why those three sisters are important to him and what
- 1:35:47they may be going through. No, I think he was going to be a
- 1:35:49snake whale salesman. Do you think so?
- 1:35:52I really do. That could be.
- 1:35:54I really think he was using. I I don't necessarily like,
- 1:35:57maybe he was legitimately a nice guy, but I think that that would
- 1:36:00be another fuck of a bummer ending that he's been playing
- 1:36:03the nice guy the whole time. And then because, I mean, think
- 1:36:05about how patronizing he's been towards Iris, You know what I
- 1:36:08mean? You're right, he's probably like
- 1:36:09playing the game in a way that would have benefited him.
- 1:36:13Yeah, like very, very affable kind of guy.
- 1:36:16And then when he gets his chance, he's taking it.
- 1:36:20And if I know anything about this movie, it didn't want to
- 1:36:22play nice with any of its endings.
- 1:36:24Cuz like, there's no way this would have went to a test
- 1:36:27audience. And people are like, yeah,
- 1:36:28that's kind of a bummer. And, like, the director's
- 1:36:30probably like, yeah, I know. That's the thing.
- 1:36:31Yeah. So yeah, no, you're probably
- 1:36:35right. It probably would have been him
- 1:36:37shooting Iris instead. Yeah, but she does it and she's
- 1:36:41doing it for Riley and she gets home.
- 1:36:43They give her just a bag of cash and are they going to talk to
- 1:36:47the IRS for her? How's she supposed to pay off
- 1:36:50all this shit with some cash without saying where she got it
- 1:36:52from? See The thing is though, I've
- 1:36:56this has been brought up before and this isn't we can go into a
- 1:37:00whole thing here. But it was because Nelly, you
- 1:37:04know rapper, hip hop artist, notoriously carries around with
- 1:37:09him a bag of like $300,000 on hand.
- 1:37:13OK, he one time lost that bag of money and somebody found it and
- 1:37:19he received it back. The person was a good citizen.
- 1:37:22They gave him the money back and he rewarded them with $100 bill.
- 1:37:27So a lot of people in the comments were contemplating, all
- 1:37:29right, like why like you should keep that money And then other
- 1:37:33people are like, what would you do with a bag of cash?
- 1:37:35Like how are you going to explain that?
- 1:37:37It's like, it's cash make cash purchases going forward.
- 1:37:40They can't track that. But she needs to pay off her
- 1:37:43parents debts. It's not like a matter of like I
- 1:37:47need to pay my debts, but I also need to like buy food and
- 1:37:49whatnot. It's like a.
- 1:37:51Yeah, you know, you're right. And I think in this situation
- 1:37:53here, she's already got the surgery paid for by the
- 1:37:56foundation. So she's got that much get a job
- 1:37:58and like have that on paper and then start making payments, but
- 1:38:01like. Well, you know what would have
- 1:38:03been a good cover for that? A fucking serving job where
- 1:38:05you're paid in cash. Yeah, well, see, The thing is,
- 1:38:08now she can actually go out there and start job hunting and
- 1:38:11not actually have that. Pressure if I need.
- 1:38:12A job right now. The bag of cash is enough to pay
- 1:38:15off her parents debts, pay for all of Wrightley's treatments,
- 1:38:19and for her to go back to school.
- 1:38:21Yeah, I almost questioned if this duffel bag's big enough for
- 1:38:24all of that, but that's a whole different discussion.
- 1:38:26And he's like, and we've already found a donor in Romania,
- 1:38:29definitely kidnap somebody, there's human trafficking this.
- 1:38:32Died in the hostel. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:38:36And they will be transported here.
- 1:38:38There's like, OK, so one of the Reacher books, Spoiler, if you
- 1:38:41haven't read all of the Reacher books, this is actually one of
- 1:38:43the Lee and Andrew joint ventures.
- 1:38:46And I think it's probably the strongest of the new era of
- 1:38:48Reacher, if you will. OK, this isn't spoiling it for
- 1:38:52you, because I don't think you're going to.
- 1:38:53Read it. No, you're fine.
- 1:38:54I don't care. So they had like this prison and
- 1:38:57they were like divided up prisoners into different
- 1:39:00subsets. And like they had this whole
- 1:39:02scheme where they would like rehabilitate them and send them
- 1:39:05out into the world, except they're sending out people that
- 1:39:07aren't actually the real prisoners.
- 1:39:09And they're picking the prisoners that much like Chef's
- 1:39:11Foundation is picking, don't have family or any outside
- 1:39:14connections. They're selling them to go onto
- 1:39:17a boat that goes out into international waters where
- 1:39:20you're not being held by like law.
- 1:39:22And they're using them as living donors.
- 1:39:24And they take like little bits and pieces until the person is
- 1:39:27fully dead. So like, they'll start with like
- 1:39:28skin and like eyes and. That's fucked.
- 1:39:32Up. It is so fucked up.
- 1:39:34Yeah, it is so fucked up. And so that's when they were
- 1:39:37like, we found a donor from Romania.
- 1:39:39My brain went to that this time because I've read the book it.
- 1:39:42Could also be a Jack Reacher tie.
- 1:39:45It really God that's depressing Jack Reacher.
- 1:39:48Except it couldn't be a Jack Reacher time, because Shep
- 1:39:52Lambrick is still alive. At the end of this, Jack Reacher
- 1:39:55leaves no survivors. Yeah, we know of maybe at the
- 1:39:59end of like after the credits rolled like Reacher, like
- 1:40:01rolled. You know what?
- 1:40:02He would have stabbed Julian in the Dick.
- 1:40:05He would have done. It I'm glad that he would have
- 1:40:07gotten his justice. He would have been the one that
- 1:40:10taught Bobby Hill to go for the grind.
- 1:40:12He's not above a grind kick. Nobody should.
- 1:40:16OK, So yeah, she makes a bad comb.
- 1:40:19She showers. She checks on her brother.
- 1:40:22He seems to be sleeping, so she like kind of just gets settled
- 1:40:26back in and after she's done with her shower and everything,
- 1:40:29she goes to check on him again if she walks up to him and sees
- 1:40:33a bottle of open pills that are. Saturday open bottles of pills
- 1:40:36and some vomit, and Riley has been dead for a while.
- 1:40:40Yep, he and. She's just saying, what did you
- 1:40:42do? What did you do?
- 1:40:43Oh my God, what did you do? And I think part of it is her
- 1:40:45saying that to him, but also her saying it to herself.
- 1:40:48Yep, because she's done it all for.
- 1:40:51Not necessarily nothing, because she still had to pay off all
- 1:40:53those debts. But like, a huge motivation for
- 1:40:57the all of this is now just he's dead.
- 1:41:01Yep. And it's so fucking depressing.
- 1:41:03So that's the movie. Yep, I got.
- 1:41:09I got goosebumps talking about that.
- 1:41:11Yeah, it's so fucked up, man. It's so dark.
- 1:41:14I can't believe they go there. They leave you feeling like shit
- 1:41:17with this movie. They stab you in the Dick in
- 1:41:20this they do stab. You in the Dick?
- 1:41:22I'm gonna bump it up to A9. I think it does a lot.
- 1:41:26It does a lot with what it has. Very little, you know.
- 1:41:30Yeah, I'll, I'll bump it to 8 1/2.
- 1:41:33OK. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:41:34It does a whole lot. It's it's pretty deep, despite
- 1:41:39being pretty surface level with like what it presents.
- 1:41:42But like, it gives you enough there that you know that there's
- 1:41:45a lot of underlying shit going on that's driving a lot of the
- 1:41:48decisions being made in the movie.
- 1:41:50It's really interesting. It's definitely.
- 1:41:52So we talk about the term torture porn on this show a lot
- 1:41:56and how it's used to kind of like denigrate movies.
- 1:41:59But a lot of movies that fall into that category really have a
- 1:42:03lot of underlying themes with them.
- 1:42:05And this is for sure one of them.
- 1:42:07And I think it would be so easy to write it off, But it's
- 1:42:09actually a movie that warrants multiple watches because you
- 1:42:12just get so much from it each time.
- 1:42:14Yeah, for sure. And I guess for like the thing
- 1:42:17that I would change since I got the lower score, I would say
- 1:42:21let's combine the two bats that we had.
- 1:42:23So let's address some cut out the stuff with the doctor coming
- 1:42:28in to save them, and use the extra screen time to elaborate
- 1:42:32on these other people. Yeah, give us just a little bit
- 1:42:35more back story for them. Obviously we know they're
- 1:42:37desperate and they're in dire straits, but we need them to be
- 1:42:39a little less 1 dimensional so we can feel for them.
- 1:42:42Right. Yeah.
- 1:42:43Because, like, yeah, we we're going to be rooting for Iris no
- 1:42:45matter what. But like.
- 1:42:46Well, 'cause she's first of all, she's Brittany Snow.
- 1:42:49Yeah, exactly. But she wasn't doing this is the
- 1:42:52thing, you know? I and I'm just gonna say this, I
- 1:42:54love Brittany Snow blonde. I don't like it when she has the
- 1:42:58red hair. Yeah, she looks really good
- 1:43:00blonde, the red hair. Is that is like, that's such a
- 1:43:02weird thing for me to bring up. And it has no bearing on the
- 1:43:05movie and it has no bearing on Brittany Snow because she's
- 1:43:07Brittany fucking Snow. She doesn't care about my
- 1:43:08opinion, but like, I love it. She looks so good blonde.
- 1:43:13She's like and I hate it when people tell me that I would look
- 1:43:15really good blonde because I've tried it and I don't.
- 1:43:18But like, we've seen her in both versions and she looks so good
- 1:43:22blonde. So yeah, stay blonde.
- 1:43:25But yeah, no, there's you could have, like, it would be nice to
- 1:43:29make these decisions a little bit more impactful, like when
- 1:43:32they're beating up Travis with that whip, like make it like
- 1:43:35feel a little bit more because like maybe he's got that and we
- 1:43:39know he's a vet. But like, what exactly about
- 1:43:41that makes this a little bit more tragic?
- 1:43:43Maybe have him shout out the like a member of his platoon.
- 1:43:47And like that would be good. We we don't know the name and
- 1:43:49Jeffrey Combs because they've done all of like this research.
- 1:43:52He's like Oh yeah, that was a member of your squadron that got
- 1:43:54killed. Yeah, like just like throws off
- 1:43:56little off handed comments. So you're like oh God, he's
- 1:43:58having flashbacks as he's dying like and that, something like
- 1:44:01that. Makes it more clear that Jeffrey
- 1:44:04Combs character like has that background Intel on these
- 1:44:07people. Yeah, he is really nefarious.
- 1:44:09Yeah. I mean, we know he is, but like,
- 1:44:12mm hmm. Yeah.
- 1:44:13OK, so with that did, what did Talia think of?
- 1:44:19It so Talia was chilling on the chase the whole time she allowed
- 1:44:22you to tuck her in, which always means she's in a good mood.
- 1:44:24Yes, when she's being a little grumpy, but she won't.
- 1:44:28Little Grumpus won't let you tuck her in.
- 1:44:31And then when they started playing the game, she let out
- 1:44:34the old Triple F, which is a French fry fart.
- 1:44:39So she was appropriately frightened at that moment.
- 1:44:42She had some French fries just to give some.
- 1:44:44Content. Yeah, yeah, it.
- 1:44:47Was a very foul fart. Was it better or worse than a
- 1:44:52cheese fart? Cheese farts are worse.
- 1:44:54Triple fry Triple F farts are not too far away from.
- 1:44:58It it's just a triple F, Triple F fart is the same as saying I
- 1:45:01have something. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:45:04So all that to say, Talia was really, really in the mood for
- 1:45:09this movie. It took her there.
- 1:45:10She probably gives this A9. Yeah, I'd say so.
- 1:45:15Yeah. And.
- 1:45:16The only thing that would make it better is if there were some
- 1:45:18guard dogs that got to like have a little dog acting action but
- 1:45:22they don't get hurt. Yeah, but they seem like.
- 1:45:24A Yeah, that's how you. Can keep.
- 1:45:26That's how you can keep Doctor Barden in, and he's just like,
- 1:45:28scared away by the guard dogs. Yeah, release.
- 1:45:30The hounds, yeah, release the hounds.
- 1:45:32And Zoe was in Lauren's guarding a shark bed the whole time.
- 1:45:35Super happy. Yep, and that's this.
- 1:45:38Might start to get interesting with Lawrence Gordon a shark bed
- 1:45:41watch, because Scout has finally taken notice of it.
- 1:45:46So I think we're gonna start having some turf wars over it.
- 1:45:49Yeah. It's gonna become a problem.
- 1:45:51Yeah, we'll have to monitor. That stuff we haven't gotten
- 1:45:54there yet, but it's I I know our cats, after almost 10 years of
- 1:45:58both of them together, that's it's gonna be a problem.
- 1:46:00It's gonna be a Jeffrey Combs double sized situation, yeah.
- 1:46:05All right. Who did you relate to?
- 1:46:07Oh man, who did I relate to? Probably Doctor Barden looking
- 1:46:14at the couch and being so sad at the the pistachio shelves in
- 1:46:18that tweet. You're not gonna relate to Iris
- 1:46:21with the vegetarian. Oh, that's a good point.
- 1:46:24I just, I feel so cliched to relate yourself to the final
- 1:46:27girl, you know? No, I mean, I feel like it's
- 1:46:30really appropriate in this case. I would say so.
- 1:46:32OK. Yeah.
- 1:46:32I guess with the. Yeah.
- 1:46:34So, yeah. OK.
- 1:46:36So with the vegetarian thing, the shoes in the barrel thing,
- 1:46:43yeah, I think. And I would do a lot of probably
- 1:46:47unspeakable things for my sisters.
- 1:46:49So yeah, yeah, let's go with that.
- 1:46:53OK, that's a good point. That's a good point.
- 1:46:55Also the accents while cooking. Yeah, that's true too, yeah.
- 1:47:01So I'm basically Brittany Snow. I feel like I also related to
- 1:47:05her. When we covered X I feel like I
- 1:47:07probably picked her. I think I picked her character,
- 1:47:10you and Brittany. Snow just.
- 1:47:12I just love Brittany Snow. Yeah.
- 1:47:13I also love her in Pitch Perfect.
- 1:47:15She's my favorite part of that movie.
- 1:47:16She's the best part of that. Yeah, she really is.
- 1:47:20Okay. Let's see.
- 1:47:21Who did I relate to? It's so easy for me to go for
- 1:47:24the Travis one. I feel like we don't get Travis.
- 1:47:26'S a lot. Travis's a lot.
- 1:47:29We really don't. I get plenty of Jesse's and it's
- 1:47:31hit or miss if they're like good or not.
- 1:47:33But we don't get a lot of Travis's and when it's due,
- 1:47:35they're either an asshole or they're getting the shit kicked
- 1:47:38out of them. I'd probably get the shit kicked
- 1:47:41out of me if I were in one of these things.
- 1:47:43I wouldn't fire off my mouth like you did, but like
- 1:47:47sometimes. You would.
- 1:47:48It would depend on how strong the wine was.
- 1:47:50If they gave you really strong wine, you get a little froggy.
- 1:47:53I get froggy. Maybe I'm like, going over there
- 1:47:54trying to hug Shepherd. He's like, all right, give that
- 1:47:57boy some lashes, 'cause that's what I used to do.
- 1:48:01I used to get super drunk and try and pick people up and hug
- 1:48:03them and yeah, it's not happening.
- 1:48:04Well, you didn't try and pick people up, You picked people up.
- 1:48:06I've got pictures of you picking up almost every single member of
- 1:48:09your fraternity. That's true.
- 1:48:11So. So, yeah, I guess so.
- 1:48:14You know, maybe that's what it was.
- 1:48:15I I get the lashes and crabmen would be like, let's finish.
- 1:48:23I don't wanna be hugged. I don't know how quickly you
- 1:48:26heal from whipping, but I don't wanna be picked up.
- 1:48:30Yeah, it's understandable, Okay. Let's see when is.
- 1:48:36This do we have A tag? No a new tagline.
- 1:48:38No no. Dream SQL first.
- 1:48:40Dream SQL. Dream SQL, which I when I was
- 1:48:43trying to look for, I really wanted to get Ricky's quote
- 1:48:46about gambling. I wanted that to be my
- 1:48:48beginning. That would have been great.
- 1:48:49Did you hear my little Canadian? That I did in honor?
- 1:48:51Of him, Yeah, you did. You did a good job.
- 1:48:54I really wanted that. But when I was trying to look it
- 1:48:56up, it came up with would you rather 2?
- 1:49:00And I was like, that's not a thing, 'cause we for sure would
- 1:49:02have watched it. And it's just a lot of things
- 1:49:05that people have, like, speculated or wanted, or there's
- 1:49:08like apparently recent rumors of a sequel.
- 1:49:10So, well, I don't believe it, 'cause there were also rumors
- 1:49:14back in like 2013 and 2014, so. This is an easy one to do a
- 1:49:17sequel for because everything kind of stays in place here,
- 1:49:20like they can have another game. Yeah.
- 1:49:22Maybe we do see the aftermath of Iris having to actually do shit
- 1:49:28for the Foundation now. Yeah, now that she's like,
- 1:49:31really got nobody left because Riley's gone.
- 1:49:35Is she? Did she start working at the
- 1:49:39practice? Maybe she went back to school
- 1:49:41and became a doctor. She wants to help people.
- 1:49:43She took over Doctor Barden's clinic, but now she has to bring
- 1:49:46in people. I I like that.
- 1:49:48But I want her to actually embrace the role now.
- 1:49:51She has no family. I want to see the power struggle
- 1:49:55between her and Julian. Is this too similar to our dream
- 1:49:59sequel to Hostel Part 2? Because we pitched a very
- 1:50:02similar thing? It's.
- 1:50:03Kind of similar, but I I would, I think it would be really
- 1:50:05interesting to watch Jeffrey Combs characters start to really
- 1:50:09favor her over Julie. Oh my God.
- 1:50:11He, like, kind of adopts her. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:50:13Like she becomes part of the family.
- 1:50:15And like, he's starting to get jealous.
- 1:50:17OK, so there's Step Siblings. Maybe they do like a Cruel
- 1:50:20Intentions thing. I've never seen that movie.
- 1:50:22I know, but we did discuss the plot in depth the other night
- 1:50:25because I was trying to explain to you how wrong you were about
- 1:50:28it. OK, Well, yes, we.
- 1:50:29OK, I could see that maybe happening.
- 1:50:32But, you know, I think that that could be really interesting,
- 1:50:35that dynamic. And then, yeah, she could still,
- 1:50:37like all things could be true. Like she could have still really
- 1:50:39benefited from that. She could be a doctor at like,
- 1:50:41helping people in that way. And she's trying to justify it
- 1:50:44that way, You know, like she's struggling with her own moral
- 1:50:48quandaries. She's made that before she
- 1:50:50killed the guy. She's like, whoa, this is to
- 1:50:51save somebody. So now she's like, I got to kill
- 1:50:53a whole room of people to save all kinds of other people.
- 1:50:55What if we combine it with like a saw two kind of moment and
- 1:50:58she's thrown back in the game? See, And that's the thing, too.
- 1:51:01I always. I have like a sinking suspicion
- 1:51:03that maybe Lucas could have been a.
- 1:51:06Plant. Plant.
- 1:51:07Yeah. See, you see what I'm saying?
- 1:51:09There's something about him that like he's too good and pure in
- 1:51:12all of the situation, and it just seems like he has almost no
- 1:51:16survival instincts in a way that makes him suspicious.
- 1:51:19I agree. He's the one that orchestrated
- 1:51:21the whole like, mutiny. Yeah, too.
- 1:51:22Yeah, yeah. And notice how Cal's the one
- 1:51:25that got shot. He just got like.
- 1:51:27Sat back down. Yeah.
- 1:51:28Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 1:51:30So, yeah, I could see that she could be a plant and we could
- 1:51:32see how that goes from that perspective.
- 1:51:34Yeah. Interesting.
- 1:51:35OK. OK, we got one.
- 1:51:37All right. Now we got tackling.
- 1:51:39All right, I'm wearing my pool party massacre shirt and all I
- 1:51:42can think of is worst dinner party ever.
- 1:51:47I like that. I also kind of like the timer
- 1:51:51starts now. Would you rather the timer
- 1:51:54starts now? It kind of plays into it because
- 1:51:55they have like 15 seconds to decide.
- 1:51:58I like that. That's like we can refine it
- 1:52:01serious. And it kind of like ties into
- 1:52:03the movie you've got. 15 seconds.
- 1:52:06You've got 15 seconds to decide, yes.
- 1:52:10That's better, Yeah, I like that a lot, 'cause yeah, that kinda.
- 1:52:12It gives you a little bit of mystery like woo.
- 1:52:16It plays into it. You must make a choice.
- 1:52:20You must follow through on that choice.
- 1:52:23You have 15 seconds to decide. That's good, yeah.
- 1:52:26Feels like. One of those movies that needs
- 1:52:28like a three line tag. Yeah.
- 1:52:29Oh my God, that's really good. Oh yeah, we're getting good at
- 1:52:33this. We are God fucking hire us
- 1:52:36Hollywood. Yes, please.
- 1:52:37If nothing else, for for a tagline.
- 1:52:41OK, so time for reviews. OK, I pulled A1 star review off
- 1:52:46of IMDb. Those Chodes.
- 1:52:50One outs in killing for a dead man.
- 1:52:54This was reviewed on Halloween Day in 2019.
- 1:52:57OK, So what what was going on in how that was the last good
- 1:53:01Halloween for for a long time? All right, they say.
- 1:53:07I thought this movie sounded intriguing, but was incredibly
- 1:53:10disappointed when it turned out to be nothing but a dinner party
- 1:53:13where everyone dies except the winner and then the good girl
- 1:53:17who won the game went home to a dead brother.
- 1:53:19No victory. I feel depressed as fuck now
- 1:53:22once start outs in goodbye. I think they just don't like how
- 1:53:26this movie didn't have the resolution that they really
- 1:53:28wanted from it which I I think it's kind of.
- 1:53:31I think it's nice like I I had it as my bad that like you don't
- 1:53:35really have any payoff but like you want it but like some movies
- 1:53:40just don't have it and I don't really like.
- 1:53:43I think this perfectly encapsulates the whole point of
- 1:53:46the movie. Like what are you doing it for
- 1:53:48and is it going to be worth it in the end?
- 1:53:49Yeah, exactly. I also just made this connection
- 1:53:53now, but 'cause I do a reread of Hunger Games every year, and
- 1:53:57with Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes coming out, hopefully to
- 1:54:00streaming soon, but I'm getting ready to just pay the $6 rental
- 1:54:02fee. You've been watching the movies
- 1:54:05with me and this is all first time for you.
- 1:54:07And I remember when we get to the end of Mockingjay Part 2,
- 1:54:10you were just like, wait, the sister died, the sister died,
- 1:54:13she volunteered for the sister, and the sister died.
- 1:54:14You were so mad. And it feels very kind of like
- 1:54:18this, except Iris doesn't have another person to lean on like
- 1:54:22Peter Hamich at the end. See, The thing is like you're
- 1:54:25watching a movie you you don't expect it to be so mean and
- 1:54:29cruel. But like sometimes movies can be
- 1:54:31mean and cruel. Yeah, it's kind of nice to go
- 1:54:33the way that you. Sometimes that's kind of the
- 1:54:35point. Also, I'm sorry but when you're
- 1:54:37watching a horror movie, you have to expect that 80% of the
- 1:54:40cast is gonna die at a minimum, if not close to closer to 95
- 1:54:45like. Yeah, generally everybody dies.
- 1:54:47I like. I get it, yeah.
- 1:54:48Dinner party. One girl walks out at the end.
- 1:54:50But I don't know what you read from the synopsis that would
- 1:54:52lead you to believe otherwise. Yeah, OK, listen, reviews.
- 1:54:56OK, All right. Starting off with our own
- 1:54:58Instagram review with Michael E Howard.
- 1:55:01Who says, would you rather watch a great movie or miss out on a
- 1:55:05new classic? When I was younger and watched
- 1:55:08it, I truly enjoyed it. I truly enjoyed it.
- 1:55:10More of this go around. How far would you go for someone
- 1:55:12you love? I spent most of the movie
- 1:55:14thinking about that. I would absolutely give this an
- 1:55:168 out of 10. Always.
- 1:55:18Right. Yeah, with us, Michael.
- 1:55:20That's cool. I mean, yeah, like.
- 1:55:21And I was so confused by the beginning of the review, like,
- 1:55:25would you rather watch a great movie or in our new classic?
- 1:55:27And I was like, wait, which is which?
- 1:55:29And I was like. Oh, you're not.
- 1:55:30In both or this movie, OK. I I like now.
- 1:55:34It also makes you think about like put yourself in their
- 1:55:38shoes, like what would you do in this scenario?
- 1:55:40It's not an easy question to answer when you really think.
- 1:55:43About it, No, like you like. And I really this time spent a
- 1:55:47long time while we were watching you trying to like, think about
- 1:55:51it, like what would my decision be?
- 1:55:53I probably would do the shocking myself.
- 1:55:56You know, instead of shouting the person next to me with the
- 1:55:58stabbing, I would tell the person next to me stabbing.
- 1:56:00I got plenty of fat. This is.
- 1:56:02There's no arteries here. This is all fat.
- 1:56:05Like, you're fine. You can just stab me right
- 1:56:07there. It's good you got.
- 1:56:09Muscle too, you got, you got strong legs, Jesse.
- 1:56:12You don't give yourself enough credit.
- 1:56:13You got a lot of like. Muscle.
- 1:56:14I forgot that I danced for most of my life and I got that going
- 1:56:17on. But still this this is an artery
- 1:56:20right here. This is, this is a little thick
- 1:56:23so you can just stab me and it's good.
- 1:56:25They. Didn't say you had.
- 1:56:26I had to stab him in the artery. There's so much other leg.
- 1:56:28Just stab him, they said. Thigh and your arteries like
- 1:56:32like right there like. Doop, doop, doop.
- 1:56:35Doop. Yeah, come on.
- 1:56:36Linda probably had a lot of muscle atrophy, so I'll I'll
- 1:56:39give Peter a pass on that. Fair enough, fair enough.
- 1:56:43All right, over to Twitter Word, Zombie says.
- 1:56:46I remember watching this after learning this was different from
- 1:56:49truth or dare. That's an easy thing to.
- 1:56:51Hell yeah. I hope you.
- 1:56:53I hope you're going through our back catalogue now, yeah?
- 1:56:56I hope you are. This is a brutal movie.
- 1:56:59You are going to feel bad for almost everyone in this movie.
- 1:57:02The ending is supposed to be happy and it just does not.
- 1:57:06Nope, it is a good movie. Just be ready.
- 1:57:09So yeah, don't go in thinking you're going to have a good time
- 1:57:11and be, like, satisfied with the conclusion, 'cause that's not
- 1:57:15the movie you're going to get. We're sex with mom and we're
- 1:57:17here to be sad and talk about life and stuff.
- 1:57:19That's that's this movie. Exactly.
- 1:57:22Tower says. One of the cruelest endings
- 1:57:24ever. In horror, my jaw hits the floor
- 1:57:26every time. Everyone was great in this, and
- 1:57:28I'm always happy to see Brittany snow.
- 1:57:30Also, the eye thing ruined me. It ruined everybody.
- 1:57:33Buddy fucking sucks. I love that we share this poster
- 1:57:37sometimes. I remember your sister like
- 1:57:39replies. She's like, what the fuck movie
- 1:57:41is this? No, no, I'm pretty sure that was
- 1:57:43about society. No, it was this too, because.
- 1:57:45She wasn't this too. Yeah, she's like, Domo wants to
- 1:57:48know. Oh, different sister.
- 1:57:50Yeah, OK. Yeah.
- 1:57:51This one, yeah, she's like, Domo needs to know what movie.
- 1:57:53This is I feel. Like we need to be talking to
- 1:57:54Domo about more movies. I don't know, Aquilee Booth
- 1:57:58says. It's like Saw meets rat Race.
- 1:58:00Good cast and enjoyable movie. OK, have you ever seen Rat Race?
- 1:58:05It's a fun movie. Parts of it.
- 1:58:07Yeah, that's an apartment. Yeah, no, I know enough about
- 1:58:11the premise, and that really is a good description of this.
- 1:58:13Yeah, final review from our buddy Chad.
- 1:58:16Chad says Mean little movie, a lead you can root for, and
- 1:58:20gratuitous cones. Wait, no such thing Script.
- 1:58:23Is tight. You cannot have gratuitous
- 1:58:25cones. It's just cones.
- 1:58:28Script is tight and most of the support cast is good.
- 1:58:30Still seems to be under scene for some reason.
- 1:58:33Solid feel, bad movie all the way around.
- 1:58:35Oh my God, I love the term Feel bad movie.
- 1:58:39Thank you for that, Chad. Hold on, he's got a, he's got a,
- 1:58:41he's got a pair in here. Pair with cheap thrills and be
- 1:58:44nihilistic for a few. Oh my God.
- 1:58:47Also perfect. And isn't there somebody else
- 1:58:49from Trailer Park Boys involved in Cheap Thrills?
- 1:58:52Or am I step with something else?
- 1:58:54Another Canadian dude, but it's got David Kettner in it.
- 1:58:58Okay, okay, Yeah, yeah. No, that is a really good
- 1:59:02hearing. I do love the term, cuz we talk
- 1:59:05about feel good movies all the time.
- 1:59:06Do Yeah, I love a feel bad movie.
- 1:59:08That's so. Good.
- 1:59:09Sometimes you just want to be brought back down to earth.
- 1:59:11Like I wanna feel bad right now. That's when I go watch Requiem
- 1:59:15for a Dream. You've done that twice.
- 1:59:18I feel bad every single time. One time, Yeah, no one time's
- 1:59:22enough for them. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:59:25When Travis Knight first started dating, he said his favorite
- 1:59:27movie was Requiem for a Dream. And it took probably three or
- 1:59:29four years into our relationship before we no, it was two years,
- 1:59:32'cause we're it was our senior year.
- 1:59:35We found it at Hastings and we watched it together and I was
- 1:59:39like, wow, that's a really intense movie.
- 1:59:41I see why you like it. And you're like, this is my
- 1:59:42second time watching it. I was like, you said it's your
- 1:59:44favorite and you were like, yeah, but it's a lot.
- 1:59:47You understand why I haven't watched it a lot.
- 1:59:49Yeah, it's so much it. It attacks you in so many.
- 1:59:52I feel like the only Darren Aronofsky movie I can watch
- 1:59:55without needing a several year hiatus between is probably Black
- 1:59:59Swan. Yeah.
- 1:59:59I was going to say Black Swan. 'S probably about like mother.
- 2:00:02I am finally, I think, emotionally ready enough to
- 2:00:04watch Again, Mother. 'S so fucking weird.
- 2:00:07Oh God, I don't. I don't even know if I'm ready
- 2:00:09for that one. All right, So that's it.
- 2:00:12That's it. That's it for this.
- 2:00:14Guess what we have next week, everybody?
- 2:00:17It's our 200th episode. And we are doing it in.
- 2:00:21Style. Movie we're We've been waiting
- 2:00:24for the right moment to do this. In the 200th was the perfect
- 2:00:28moment. Yeah, we are watching dude bro
- 2:00:31party massacre. Three.
- 2:00:32Hell. Yeah, I'm so.
- 2:00:34Fucking excited. This is one of those movies.
- 2:00:37It has no right to be as fucking funny as it is.
- 2:00:40It's amazing and it's very watchable because it's made by
- 2:00:44like the team behind 5 second films.
- 2:00:46So it's which means it's generally Bug Ted, which makes
- 2:00:51it very watchable for us, is the good news.
- 2:00:55You can watch it on Tubi Fandango at home, Freebie Prime,
- 2:00:59or you can rent it from YouTube or Google Blaine.
- 2:01:01Honestly, I know normally we say if there's free options, watch
- 2:01:04shows, but throw money at people too if you want did.
- 2:01:06You say voodoo. I didn't say voodoo that didn't
- 2:01:09pop up here. Voodoo's on here.
- 2:01:10Yep, that's weird. It normally pops up for me.
- 2:01:12Yep. So yeah, it's pretty much just,
- 2:01:15it's a very. Watchable movie.
- 2:01:16I tell everybody to watch it and it's so funny because the people
- 2:01:19that aren't like, haven't ever heard of it will be like, do I
- 2:01:22need to see Dubro party Massacre one and two And I'm like, no,
- 2:01:25no, no, no, no, no, no. It's part of the jerk.
- 2:01:27It's it's part of it. Yeah, yeah, just watch it.
- 2:01:29It's so much fun. It is absolutely worth every
- 2:01:33second of it and we're so excited to talk about.
- 2:01:35It I can't wait. I'm so glad that that's our
- 2:01:36200th episode. It's gonna be fun.
- 2:01:40It's so good. And it's got a man that we love
