- 1:09Speaker 3: But okay, But and Christy Martin, who we've had on
- 1:17Speaker 3: before her new show comes out.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, and it's exciting.
- 1:25Speaker 3: It really is. And and we were hoping to have
- 1:28Speaker 3: her on to kind of talk about it.
- 1:32Speaker 4: She's in New York City, stuck in.
- 1:35Speaker 3: And obviously we don't really want her to be driving
- 1:39Speaker 3: and trying to talk.
- 1:40Speaker 4: That not the place to do that.
- 1:43Speaker 3: But I'm going to start out with can.
- 1:46Speaker 4: We play the clip? Oh? Yeah, yeah, we've got a
- 1:48Speaker 4: movie trailer to play.
- 1:51Speaker 5: You must be the lady I've been hearing so much
- 1:53Speaker 5: about it.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yes, sir, you're the world champion right now.
- 2:00Speaker 5: You think you would make me go, but one day
- 2:08Speaker 5: you're going to make up and realize that it turns
- 2:11Speaker 5: just fine without.
- 2:15Speaker 3: How funny you are, like famine too. I am worried
- 2:20Speaker 3: about you.
- 2:22Speaker 6: I Parson stopping what stuffs half my life? Hadding, that's
- 2:34Speaker 6: my house, that's my jo.
- 2:42Speaker 4: There's no Crystal Martwood him.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Believe me, I'll kill you.
- 2:49Speaker 4: What do we have to do? Oh?
- 2:53Speaker 3: Boy, ladies and gentlemen, have I got a street for you?
- 3:01Speaker 4: I couldn't get much out of that clip, but you
- 3:03Speaker 4: kind of get the idea. It's very suspenseful.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Well yeah, yeah, yeah, And there was a there was
- 3:08Speaker 3: a a piece in there that that caught my attention.
- 3:14Speaker 3: If you leave, I'm gonna kill you. I that the
- 3:18Speaker 3: history of it, right, And I think and again, one
- 3:23Speaker 3: of the one of the interesting things that I when
- 3:27Speaker 3: I when I think about Christy and I think about
- 3:30Speaker 3: her as it relates to West Virginia athletes as a whole,
- 3:37Speaker 3: how many athletes is the foundation basically of their sport.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Randy Moss is great, possibly the greatest athlete to ever
- 3:50Speaker 3: come out of West Virginia. Sure, but he didn't create
- 3:54Speaker 3: you know, he's not the face of football. Sure, you know,
- 3:59Speaker 3: you know, you have you know, you have Michael Jordan,
- 4:03Speaker 3: you have these people. But and I'm not saying she
- 4:07Speaker 3: has to be as big as Michael Jordan or anybody
- 4:11Speaker 3: that you could take in basketball, football or whatever. But
- 4:16Speaker 3: what does it take, What does it take to be
- 4:21Speaker 3: the person who actually gives the breath of life to
- 4:27Speaker 3: a sport?
- 4:27Speaker 4: And that's the perfect way to put it. I love
- 4:29Speaker 4: the way you said that, because she basically this young
- 4:33Speaker 4: girl from a small town in West Virginia, she basically
- 4:38Speaker 4: changed the face of women's boxing.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Yes, And.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Just to think that someone thought enough of her story
- 4:47Speaker 4: and beyond just the story of her really making an
- 4:50Speaker 4: impact on women's boxing as a sport, her life, her
- 4:54Speaker 4: her story behind the scenes, just makes your jaw it's
- 4:59Speaker 4: jaw dropping.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And again if you're listening, if you listen to that
- 5:03Speaker 3: clip in the opening, you know there's some there's some
- 5:08Speaker 3: there's some verbies. Yes, you know, this is her life.
- 5:14Speaker 3: This is the life that she lived. Wow, she is
- 5:20Speaker 3: doing her sport, her boxing.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Yes, you know.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Now you could say, okay, well maybe that's motivation, Da
- 5:25Speaker 3: da da da. But I know sports, and I know
- 5:29Speaker 3: if your mind's not in it, yeah, you can't do it.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And how do you switch from being physically abused at home? Right?
- 5:40Speaker 3: I mean, and you can make the case that, okay,
- 5:41Speaker 3: she she's taking it out on somebody else. I don't really,
- 5:45Speaker 3: I don't really see it like that.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I think in the case of Christy, she's such a
- 5:50Speaker 4: strong woman and having her in the studio with Champ
- 5:53Speaker 4: her dog, it was just an amazing experience. I'll never
- 5:56Speaker 4: forget it. But just to hear her speak in her
- 6:00Speaker 4: and her calmness, uh, you just can't imagine what she's
- 6:04Speaker 4: capable of in the ring. First of all, right, you
- 6:08Speaker 4: don't think she could be like that, but but she
- 6:10Speaker 4: she's a she's just this incredible person. And to think
- 6:13Speaker 4: what she went through besides having the career in boxing.
- 6:18Speaker 4: To think what she went through, like we said, behind
- 6:20Speaker 4: the scenes with her ex husband, Uh, it just it
- 6:23Speaker 4: just it boggles the mind. And like also her trainer, Yes,
- 6:28Speaker 4: he was the one that promoted her, trained her, and
- 6:31Speaker 4: then they eventually got married. Yes. So so all of
- 6:34Speaker 4: that she had to overcome and endure to to be
- 6:39Speaker 4: who she is today. And and I think that's what's
- 6:42Speaker 4: such such a fascination of her story, and especially for
- 6:47Speaker 4: her to tell it's even even more awesome. But to
- 6:49Speaker 4: go into a theater and people don't know I think
- 6:53Speaker 4: they know her name, and they know that what she
- 6:55Speaker 4: did for women's sports, but they have no idea what
- 6:58Speaker 4: she endured behind the scenes, you know, as far as
- 7:03Speaker 4: really just partner violence. I mean it was just domestic
- 7:06Speaker 4: violence that she endured and almost died.
- 7:09Speaker 3: And again, I mean, we've had some great athletes coming
- 7:14Speaker 3: out of West Virginia, yes, and and you can make
- 7:18Speaker 3: the case that each one of them has a story
- 7:22Speaker 3: of what they went through to get wherever they sure
- 7:27Speaker 3: were able to whatever they were able to achieve. But
- 7:31Speaker 3: somebody looked at her story, right and said, hmmm, yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 3: this is this is this is difference.
- 7:40Speaker 4: This is film worthy.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah, this is film worthy. And again I don't care
- 7:44Speaker 3: what who who, I don't care what you think about
- 7:48Speaker 3: it as a as a whole. If you watch it
- 7:50Speaker 3: and you're like, oh this this that it's bigger than you. Oh,
- 7:55Speaker 3: it's bigger than how you feel about the quote, the
- 7:59Speaker 3: quality of it. It is about. This is somebody's life, absolutely,
- 8:04Speaker 3: you know, and I think that, regardless, is bigger than
- 8:09Speaker 3: anything else.
- 8:10Speaker 4: Right, And just the storyline, I mean, going from like
- 8:13Speaker 4: I said, going from finding you know, her her niche
- 8:16Speaker 4: in life. You know, at the beginning when she decided, Hey,
- 8:18Speaker 4: this is what I want to do. I want to box,
- 8:20Speaker 4: then ending up under Don King's wing for a while,
- 8:25Speaker 4: fought Lala Laila Ali right uh, and then toward the
- 8:30Speaker 4: end whenever she was famous and she was you know,
- 8:34Speaker 4: going through her career and doing all these amazing things
- 8:37Speaker 4: for her husband. You know, I don't want to be
- 8:39Speaker 4: a spoiler alert, but I mean, you know he basically
- 8:41Speaker 4: he basically tried to kill her. Yeah, when she she
- 8:44Speaker 4: tried to leave him. So the whole storyline is fascinating.
- 8:47Speaker 4: You guys, if you have an opportunity this weekend to
- 8:50Speaker 4: hit the theaters and go see it. Like we said,
- 8:52Speaker 4: the premiere is on Friday, and she's actually having a
- 8:56Speaker 4: red carpet event in Beckley at the Marquis Cinema where
- 9:00Speaker 4: she will be in person there. Now, I don't know
- 9:02Speaker 4: if Sidney Sweeney will be there. Now, if Sidney's gonna
- 9:04Speaker 4: be there, I'm gonna make that track right, No, I'm
- 9:07Speaker 4: just kidding, but but I mean I know for a
- 9:09Speaker 4: fact that she will be there, uh here home in
- 9:12Speaker 4: West Virginia, and I think that's pretty special to come
- 9:14Speaker 4: home for a theatrical release that's going to be She
- 9:17Speaker 4: could go anywhere.
- 9:19Speaker 3: And again that speaks volumes to me, yes, because she's
- 9:24Speaker 3: not just quote a great West Virginia athlete that was
- 9:30Speaker 3: the greatest at her sport. Sure, she could go anywhere,
- 9:35Speaker 3: she could she she she could pick anywhere that she
- 9:38Speaker 3: wanted to have this, Yes, absolutely, and she's picking here.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Right, which is pretty which is huge. Yeah, it's huge.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I mean, it's a it's a it's a huge give
- 9:49Speaker 3: back and respect to her roots, to her roots, and
- 9:55Speaker 3: and we and and and we as West Virginian's we
- 9:59Speaker 3: hate when an athlete gets big go somewhere else and
- 10:04Speaker 3: we don't hear and we don't hear from them. They
- 10:06Speaker 3: don't come back, they don't do this. Yeah, and here
- 10:08Speaker 3: is somebody that wants to bring who wants to bring
- 10:13Speaker 3: everything about her past back home to West Virginia. Yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 3: and you can't tell me, you get You have no
- 10:22Speaker 3: choice but to take your hat off. You have no
- 10:24Speaker 3: choice to pay whatever it costs to get to the
- 10:27Speaker 3: movies just to see it. Judge it however you want
- 10:30Speaker 3: after you come out. But do her a favor and
- 10:34Speaker 3: go to the movie.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure. And the other thing I wanted to
- 10:38Speaker 4: add to that is, you know, just just the whole
- 10:42Speaker 4: the aura of her. I mean, like I said, if
- 10:43Speaker 4: you haven't, first of all, if you haven't checked that
- 10:45Speaker 4: podcast out that we have, go back to the archives
- 10:48Speaker 4: and listen to her, because she was She sat here
- 10:51Speaker 4: with an hour and just spoke so eloquently, so calmly,
- 10:56Speaker 4: you would never know she's a boxer. But her story,
- 10:59Speaker 4: I mean, the thing that we discussed with her, and
- 11:01Speaker 4: it was basically on the Netflix. They had a documentary
- 11:04Speaker 4: about her life. I forget the name of it. I
- 11:06Speaker 4: should know it, but we all watched it and you know,
- 11:10Speaker 4: we'll figure it out. Was it Dancing with the devil
- 11:12Speaker 4: or something like that. It was something similar to that.
- 11:15Speaker 4: But that's also something you should watch. That's an actual
- 11:17Speaker 4: documentary of Christie's life. But but anyway, just if you
- 11:22Speaker 4: haven't done that yet, you need to go back and
- 11:24Speaker 4: listen to that podcast because it was a pretty special
- 11:27Speaker 4: evening that we had with her and her dog, Champ
- 11:30Speaker 4: And just kudos to her for everything she's doing for West.
- 11:34Speaker 4: I mean, she didn't have to come in in James
- 11:36Speaker 4: in person.
- 11:37Speaker 3: She doesn't even have to claim West Virginia.
- 11:39Speaker 4: She does it. I mean, she just happened to be
- 11:41Speaker 4: in town and luckily we got her in in the
- 11:43Speaker 4: in the studio and you know, sat down and spent
- 11:46Speaker 4: an hour of her time with us. It just it
- 11:48Speaker 4: just speaks volumes of her.
- 11:50Speaker 3: At no time did she seem rushed or no anything
- 11:54Speaker 3: or bothered by a question.
- 11:56Speaker 4: And now she's her story. The movie is actually her
- 11:59Speaker 4: first name. Yeah, how awesome is that? I mean, Christy,
- 12:02Speaker 4: you know you can't I don't know if you can say.
- 12:05Speaker 3: You know, now when we start talking about like you know,
- 12:09Speaker 3: we can I don't know if we want to say
- 12:11Speaker 3: the greatest athlete, but when you start talking about the
- 12:14Speaker 3: most notable is she is she becoming one of the
- 12:18Speaker 3: most notable because you know, there was Jerry West of
- 12:20Speaker 3: the movie. Yes, because you know, like like Jerry West,
- 12:23Speaker 3: like you know, all the conversations and all the things
- 12:25Speaker 3: around him, it was hard to say that anybody else
- 12:29Speaker 3: was bigger than him. But as his time kind of
- 12:32Speaker 3: went away and become somebody else, to become somebody else. Yeah,
- 12:37Speaker 3: But I think are we in the moment of Christy Martin?
- 12:41Speaker 4: I think so. And I think once her story gets
- 12:43Speaker 4: out here, once, once this movie is released in the
- 12:45Speaker 4: theaters and people go out and see it, and you know,
- 12:48Speaker 4: it's one thing to experience. You can look things up
- 12:52Speaker 4: on the internet and read about it in an article,
- 12:54Speaker 4: but to see it, you know, act, especially Sidney Sweeney.
- 12:57Speaker 4: I'm sure Is will do a fabulous job. From what
- 13:00Speaker 4: I've heard from reviews. She she did an excellent job.
- 13:02Speaker 4: But just to be able to see it on the
- 13:05Speaker 4: big screen in order, you know, from the beginning of
- 13:09Speaker 4: her career to the end, and be able to see
- 13:11Speaker 4: her story, I think it just it would be more
- 13:15Speaker 4: magical and and we'll get out there more.
- 13:17Speaker 3: And I and I and I hate to even say this,
- 13:20Speaker 3: but what I'm interested in is the home life of
- 13:25Speaker 3: what she was actually going through. Yes, because there's there
- 13:29Speaker 3: is this reality that, you know, bad home life. You know,
- 13:32Speaker 3: you can put all that into you can put all
- 13:35Speaker 3: that frustration, all that anger into into your sport or
- 13:38Speaker 3: into whatever that is. And I do I do get that.
- 13:42Speaker 3: I do, I do believe that. But when she's sitting
- 13:47Speaker 3: when she was sitting in here, I don't even know
- 13:51Speaker 3: if I could see her anger even into the sport.
- 13:57Speaker 3: She could be just you know what I'm saying, Like
- 13:59Speaker 3: she she just seemed so.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Past the mild. Yes, I don't know how to describe her.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I mean, she was very articulate, very She's a very intelligent,
- 14:12Speaker 4: you know, studied woman.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Not angered, no, don't have, but didn't come about.
- 14:16Speaker 4: And I bet you that's taken time. I mean, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 4: it's been a minute since all that happened, and she's
- 14:21Speaker 4: probably had to work through all of the feelings that
- 14:24Speaker 4: she probably experienced. And now she's probably taken that feeling
- 14:29Speaker 4: and kind of channeled it into wanting to Because I
- 14:32Speaker 4: think part of the message of this movie it's not
- 14:34Speaker 4: only her life and her career, but it's also you know,
- 14:38Speaker 4: if you're someone that's dealing with this type of abuse,
- 14:42Speaker 4: and she even mentioned this in the studio when she
- 14:44Speaker 4: was here. If you're someone who's enduring this type of
- 14:47Speaker 4: abuse and you see the warning signs, you know, she
- 14:50Speaker 4: kind of ignored the red flags. And I think part
- 14:53Speaker 4: of her mission with this movie is not only for
- 14:55Speaker 4: people to understand her her boxing career, but also to
- 15:00Speaker 4: kind of see the things that can happen in a
- 15:03Speaker 4: abusive relationship and you need to, you know, kind of
- 15:06Speaker 4: watch for these things and get out before it gets
- 15:09Speaker 4: to the extent that I had to experience it.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Now that you say that, yeah, I almost feel like
- 15:15Speaker 3: that's the foundation of the movie and her Bobby, A
- 15:19Speaker 3: big part is just the extra right, It's just where
- 15:23Speaker 3: she was able to maybe put out that anger and
- 15:27Speaker 3: all those kinds of things. But I now that you
- 15:29Speaker 3: say that, I really and seeing her in the studio,
- 15:32Speaker 3: seeing her so calm. Yeah, but it's it's like she's
- 15:39Speaker 3: past that, and she wants everybody to see how that happens, Yes,
- 15:44Speaker 3: how it happened.
- 15:45Speaker 4: For her, right, And I think that's that's her I
- 15:49Speaker 4: don't want to say it's her goal, but I think
- 15:51Speaker 4: that's a big part of the reason that she wants
- 15:54Speaker 4: this movie to be successful. Is so that, you know,
- 15:58Speaker 4: not like I said, I don't think the biggest focus
- 16:00Speaker 4: is on what she did in her boxing career, but
- 16:02Speaker 4: it's more of and I think she even mentioned this
- 16:04Speaker 4: and like I said, listen to this podcast. It's amazing.
- 16:07Speaker 4: But she she even said, my message is to help others. Now,
- 16:11Speaker 4: this is this is why I'm doing this. And so anyway,
- 16:15Speaker 4: I just feel like, if if you have a chance,
- 16:17Speaker 4: go see the movie. I can't wait to go see
- 16:19Speaker 4: the movie myself.
- 16:20Speaker 3: So I again, we are we are fortunate to have
- 16:27Speaker 3: had her on and unfortunately she wasn't able to make
- 16:33Speaker 3: it today as.
- 16:35Speaker 4: A call in, and I had some great questions but
- 16:39Speaker 4: oh well, you know well.
- 16:40Speaker 3: And and again I kind of plans. But some of
- 16:46Speaker 3: the questions that you may have, you know, I think
- 16:50Speaker 3: they're they're they're relatable to us to even kind of
- 16:53Speaker 3: discuss and or put out there for people too who
- 16:57Speaker 3: know her, who may look her up, who haven't heard
- 17:00Speaker 3: of her and may look her up.
- 17:02Speaker 4: And well, I think the main and we can discuss
- 17:05Speaker 4: this question because this was the one that I really
- 17:07Speaker 4: wanted her to answer for me, and it was like
- 17:12Speaker 4: the main focus. But which part of your life was
- 17:18Speaker 4: the most challenged, challenging to watch while it was being
- 17:22Speaker 4: depicted on screen. Yeah, and I felt like probably it
- 17:26Speaker 4: would be the domestic violence part of it, but that
- 17:30Speaker 4: would be one of the questions I would have asked.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Also her relationship with Sidney Sweeney. You know, they had
- 17:35Speaker 4: to spend a lot of time together in order for
- 17:38Speaker 4: Sydney to be able to portray her in an emotion picture.
- 17:42Speaker 4: And I'm just wondering what kind of things they shared
- 17:46Speaker 4: in a relationship for her to deeply understand, because you
- 17:50Speaker 4: have to deeply understand, especially when you're doing this type
- 17:52Speaker 4: of a movie, and.
- 17:53Speaker 3: If you're a friend to something, you become a friend
- 17:55Speaker 3: to somebody who's who's playing you.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Right, you have to get into the character to understand
- 18:00Speaker 4: that character. So I wonder. I'm sure that Christy provided
- 18:04Speaker 4: lots of valuable, you know, advice in different things for
- 18:09Speaker 4: her to be able to do this.
- 18:10Speaker 3: So and the better that Sidney would play that role,
- 18:15Speaker 3: the more real it looks.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Right, authentic authenticity you need it for this type of movie.
- 18:23Speaker 3: When you're watching somebody play you in such a negative situation, gosh, emotionally,
- 18:33Speaker 3: how do you watch that I mean.
- 18:34Speaker 4: That's gonna be that that that would be my one
- 18:36Speaker 4: question for her. I mean I think that that would
- 18:38Speaker 4: be even for I mean even it's just a day
- 18:41Speaker 4: to day like you and I. I can't imagine. I mean,
- 18:44Speaker 4: I have nothing to make a movie about, believe me,
- 18:46Speaker 4: But I mean, like if it just parts of your
- 18:49Speaker 4: life that were very hard for you and seeing someone
- 18:53Speaker 4: act them out on the screen, regardless of what they are.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Everybody has personal tragedy. Everybody. Hers is a bigger degree
- 18:59Speaker 4: than but we all have personal tragedies that we deal with,
- 19:03Speaker 4: and to see someone acting it out, it's gotta be like.
- 19:07Speaker 3: And and think about it. It's tough.
- 19:09Speaker 4: It's got to be tough if you you relive it,
- 19:11Speaker 4: you live it.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Yes, and and and so you're having you know, you're
- 19:15Speaker 3: going to this ceremony of everybody watching it. All these
- 19:20Speaker 3: famous people are going to be sitting somewhere watching this,
- 19:24Speaker 3: and you're basically, yes, you're basically like letting them inside
- 19:29Speaker 3: of you. How do you sit there and not like,
- 19:35Speaker 3: how do you not break down when you're you're you're
- 19:39Speaker 3: going back and you're reliving a life that you have
- 19:43Speaker 3: basically worked your entire life to get passed and you
- 19:47Speaker 3: feel like you're past it all of a sudden, now
- 19:50Speaker 3: it's on It's on the screen, and you have to
- 19:54Speaker 3: feel it.
- 19:54Speaker 4: You have to relive it. Well, I bet by now,
- 19:57Speaker 4: and this is just a you know, a guess, an
- 19:59Speaker 4: educated guest. But the movie was released internationally at some
- 20:02Speaker 4: different film festivals in September. She's she's seen it enough
- 20:06Speaker 4: now that probably by the time she sees it again
- 20:08Speaker 4: this Friday, you know, it's not going to be as
- 20:11Speaker 4: raw because she's you know, I don't know. I mean
- 20:14Speaker 4: that that would have been one of my questions. I
- 20:16Speaker 4: think that that would have been an interesting response to
- 20:19Speaker 4: hear from her. And also just basically, you know, do
- 20:23Speaker 4: you think sometimes when you have these movies come out,
- 20:26Speaker 4: do you think they'll be like an uptick in women
- 20:28Speaker 4: entering boxing because they see it this kind of movie
- 20:31Speaker 4: and you know her, she's very inspirational. Yeah, And to
- 20:35Speaker 4: see the way she you know, came from West Virginia
- 20:37Speaker 4: and worked her way to Vegas basically to become the
- 20:41Speaker 4: opening act or opening boxing event for I think it
- 20:45Speaker 4: was Mike Tyson. I mean, to do that is just
- 20:48Speaker 4: huge mind blowing. And so if you're a woman who
- 20:52Speaker 4: has athletic ideas and tendencies. Is this like that little
- 20:56Speaker 4: push that makes you think boxing might be for me?
- 20:58Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I'm gonna say possibly, okay, but I think see, I
- 21:06Speaker 3: see it so much differently. I see that from my view.
- 21:14Speaker 3: I see women seeing her forget what it is that
- 21:19Speaker 3: she done to get past it, to get through it. Okay,
- 21:23Speaker 3: she's on the other side of it. Yeah, you know,
- 21:25Speaker 3: so she's gotten on the other side of it, no
- 21:27Speaker 3: matter how she got there. And and to me, it's like,
- 21:31Speaker 3: oh that's possible. Yeah, I can get I can get
- 21:34Speaker 3: through this. I just have to find something that fits me,
- 21:38Speaker 3: something that inspires me to make me get beyond that
- 21:43Speaker 3: situation that time.
- 21:44Speaker 4: That person that's just thinking of young girls like that,
- 21:48Speaker 4: the young girls that aren't at that you know, understandable, right,
- 21:52Speaker 4: and they see that if they go to the movies
- 21:54Speaker 4: and they see the boxing part of it, and you know,
- 21:56Speaker 4: are they like, wow, this this might be for me.
- 21:58Speaker 4: I'm just that would be a thing that, you know,
- 22:00Speaker 4: to me, would be kind of fun to know whether
- 22:03Speaker 4: there's an uptick in women's boxing after this movie release.
- 22:07Speaker 4: But but the part you're saying, I'm not diminishing, and
- 22:11Speaker 4: I'm not and.
- 22:11Speaker 3: I'm not challenging. I'm not challenging the other side of it.
- 22:14Speaker 7: I was.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, like I think most young
- 22:20Speaker 3: ladies today, young girls, young ladies, I don't know if
- 22:24Speaker 3: they've ever considered you know, that's what I mean. They've
- 22:28Speaker 3: never considered boxing as something because it's not a lot
- 22:32Speaker 3: because it's not you don't.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Hear about it, don't hear about it, and you don't see.
- 22:36Speaker 3: A lot of women doing it. Right, But all of
- 22:38Speaker 3: a sudden, now you see this woman and why she
- 22:41Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say why, but what it was doing
- 22:44Speaker 3: for her.
- 22:45Speaker 7: Right.
- 22:46Speaker 3: You may have some issues that you're going through that
- 22:48Speaker 3: you continue to battle with. You might think, well, well,
- 22:52Speaker 3: you know, maybe I should get in the gym and yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 3: just see what's see what it's like.
- 22:57Speaker 7: You know.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm with that.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm pretty psyched about it. So I'm definitely gonna
- 23:04Speaker 4: check it out in the theater as soon as possible.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm hoping, I'm hoping to. I'm probably gonna try
- 23:12Speaker 3: to go if it's if it's Friday, I'm probably gonna
- 23:14Speaker 3: try to get there on Friday. If and hopefully it's
- 23:17Speaker 3: in days valley or nightro I go somewhere close because
- 23:21Speaker 3: I really I really want to. I want to see
- 23:25Speaker 3: it because of her, because of lately I would have seen.
- 23:30Speaker 4: It anyway, but but but knowing her personally now and
- 23:35Speaker 4: just and just experiencing that that, you know, just just
- 23:38Speaker 4: kind of like she was. She was really like I
- 23:40Speaker 4: think she was kind of sad that she couldn't be
- 23:42Speaker 4: on tonight because we had texted her and she was
- 23:45Speaker 4: stuck in traffic in New York City and you know
- 23:47Speaker 4: that's probably not fun. And she said, West Virginia strong, right,
- 23:52Speaker 4: you know, thank you, and and so yeah, she's a
- 23:55Speaker 4: she's a she's a really wonderful person.
- 23:58Speaker 3: And can you could you imagine like watching that with her?
- 24:04Speaker 4: I think it would be fun. I think at this point,
- 24:07Speaker 4: like I said, I think the emotions are probably not
- 24:10Speaker 4: as raw. So I think where she's she's been to
- 24:12Speaker 4: these premieres and she's seen it more than once.
- 24:14Speaker 3: But still I mean to me, but but because you know,
- 24:19Speaker 3: because I mean, okay, so like if if I was
- 24:21Speaker 3: if I heard something that was a bad situation in
- 24:24Speaker 3: your life and and I'm and I'm privy to it,
- 24:29Speaker 3: like that would bother me, you know what I'm saying.
- 24:33Speaker 3: And now just having her have been in the studio
- 24:36Speaker 3: one time, right one time, and the way she came across,
- 24:42Speaker 3: I think she's to go ahead. Well, I was gonna say,
- 24:45Speaker 3: to sit by her and watch it. I would be
- 24:51Speaker 3: like I'd see something on the screen that you know
- 24:55Speaker 3: that was ugly, and I'd go like I'd have to.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Like you'd almost be uncomfort to a degree, yes, because
- 25:02Speaker 4: you just hurt so much for her the pain, Like
- 25:05Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, like you just you wouldn't
- 25:07Speaker 4: want to see it. Well, like you said, we kind
- 25:09Speaker 4: of we don't know, no, but we know we're well
- 25:11Speaker 4: enough that I feel like if we sat with her
- 25:13Speaker 4: in a room and, like you said, watched that movie
- 25:17Speaker 4: with her and saw what she went through personally, it
- 25:20Speaker 4: would be hard not to react emotionally as well. Like
- 25:24Speaker 4: I think I would be a basket case. I probably
- 25:26Speaker 4: will be anyway.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And when well, when she was here, you remember, right
- 25:31Speaker 3: as soon as we started to end the show, I
- 25:34Speaker 3: made it very clear to her that I was starstruck. Yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 3: you know, this was the person who actually created a
- 25:42Speaker 3: situation to me to be starstruck because I was like, Okay,
- 25:48Speaker 3: this is this, this is the lady who's basically the
- 25:53Speaker 3: foundation of women's boxing.
- 25:56Speaker 4: And she's from West Virginia and she's from West Virginia.
- 25:58Speaker 3: And I didn't know any thing about that until we started,
- 26:02Speaker 3: until it came out.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Right as daughter, yes, yeah, and.
- 26:07Speaker 3: I mean that, and to me, that is just like
- 26:11Speaker 3: an amazing thing. And then then you say, gosh, but
- 26:15Speaker 3: it had but it comes with all of that pain
- 26:18Speaker 3: and agony and all of that.
- 26:21Speaker 4: I had one more question too, that was pretty important
- 26:23Speaker 4: that I wanted because we all know when you go
- 26:25Speaker 4: to the movie, or when you go to a movie
- 26:26Speaker 4: it's based on a true story, that there's a little embellishment.
- 26:31Speaker 4: A lot of times the directors take some liberties, right,
- 26:34Speaker 4: So one of my questions was how accurate, how accurate
- 26:39Speaker 4: is the film in representing your life? And and and
- 26:42Speaker 4: so I was I was real curious to get her
- 26:44Speaker 4: answer on that, because, like I said, sometimes movies stray.
- 26:47Speaker 4: I'm not saying they stray far away, but sometimes they
- 26:49Speaker 4: stray a little bit for dramatic effect. And I was
- 26:52Speaker 4: just curious to see what her answers would be to that.
- 26:55Speaker 4: So but but you know, I think we know her
- 26:57Speaker 4: story well enough, and if you watch the documentary on
- 27:00Speaker 4: Netflix about her, you can compare, you can really compare
- 27:03Speaker 4: the movie to that and really get your answer.
- 27:05Speaker 3: And I would like to. I would think too, she
- 27:09Speaker 3: would because of just how how she is and the
- 27:12Speaker 3: kind of person that she is. Like, she's not gonna
- 27:15Speaker 3: let yeah, she's not gonna let you take it too far,
- 27:20Speaker 3: you know, because she wants her it's her story.
- 27:23Speaker 4: She wants the truth.
- 27:24Speaker 3: If it's if it's five slaps, don't make it twenty. Yeah,
- 27:28Speaker 3: you know, because I want people to I want this
- 27:32Speaker 3: to be real, right, and and and and again I'm
- 27:35Speaker 3: speculating to death here, Okay, but I think just knowing
- 27:41Speaker 3: who she is, having that one opportunity to have her
- 27:45Speaker 3: in the studio, I feel like she's about the truth. Yea,
- 27:51Speaker 3: and she she's she's not. There's no real reason to
- 27:55Speaker 3: make it worse than it was.
- 27:56Speaker 8: It was.
- 27:57Speaker 3: It was as it was bad enough for her.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Yes, that is it.
- 28:02Speaker 3: When you show it right, you should. If people can't
- 28:06Speaker 3: feel it, they can't see it, then that's on them.
- 28:11Speaker 4: I agree.
- 28:12Speaker 3: I don't see her being a blow up of anything.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Not me either. No, No, I think I think she's a.
- 28:18Speaker 4: She's a very genuine person, so I feel like she
- 28:21Speaker 4: probably had a lot of oversight during this filming. So
- 28:24Speaker 4: but but we'll just have to wait and see when
- 28:26Speaker 4: the movie comes out.
- 28:27Speaker 3: I can you know, as soon as as soon as
- 28:29Speaker 3: I come out of the studio, I'm calling.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I know for sure we're going to be like.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I'm calling you and said, hey, have you already seen it?
- 28:40Speaker 3: And I'm going to rush you together on this weekend?
- 28:44Speaker 4: So ironed out. I mean sometime this weekend I'll be
- 28:47Speaker 4: in a theater watching this movie, so I.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Will do so. All right, Well let's take a quick

- 30:20Speaker 2: Now back into the conversation.
- 30:22Speaker 3: All Right, ladies and gentlemen, we are we are back.
- 30:26Speaker 3: And one of one of the sports that I I
- 30:30Speaker 3: hate to hate them said that I was afraid to play.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, I would love to play golf. But
- 30:37Speaker 3: I'm always there. I'm always here to play golf. I
- 30:42Speaker 3: might be. But baseball, yeah, you know, and we haven't
- 30:48Speaker 3: talked a lot about baseball, but we have to. We
- 30:52Speaker 3: have to.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Yeah, the World Series, the World Series? Can we can?
- 30:56Speaker 4: We hear the clip.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Here's z O two pitch bounce as well, knocked the
- 31:02Speaker 3: head up bits to the back over the past.
- 31:05Speaker 1: To beat the champ, you gotta knock him out.
- 31:09Speaker 9: The Dodgers stand tall and went back to back titles.
- 31:50Speaker 9: Clayton Kershaw's major league career ends as he watches his
- 31:55Speaker 9: team win a Game seven epic. It didn't look like
- 32:01Speaker 9: they had any shot in this one until the very end,
- 32:05Speaker 9: but an unsung hero, a most unlikely hero, Mcguel Rojas
- 32:10Speaker 9: tied the game with a home run. With all the
- 32:13Speaker 9: focus on the man that was on deck Sho hey
- 32:15Speaker 9: o Tani, it was Rojas who delivered the shock, and
- 32:20Speaker 9: then it was Will Smith, who delivered the game winning
- 32:24Speaker 9: home run in the top of the eleventh Inna and
- 32:27Speaker 9: Yoshi Nobu Yamamoto, legendary stuff, wins three games in this
- 32:33Speaker 9: World Series, a complete game in game two. His team
- 32:37Speaker 9: faces elimination in game six, and then, like Grandy Johnson,
- 32:41Speaker 9: like Brover Cleveland, Alexander, like some of the all time greats,
- 32:45Speaker 9: Yoshi Nobu Yamamoto finishes off Game seven.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Unbelievable. That's just the only word I can say. Unbelievable.
- 32:52Speaker 3: People who have pitched, they will appreciate that more than
- 32:55Speaker 3: anybody else. Five to four end Game seven, Game seven.
- 33:06Speaker 4: I know, right, all right, did you stay up for
- 33:10Speaker 4: any of these games, charl I'm gonna be honest disclaimer,
- 33:14Speaker 4: I did not. I mean I went to bed and
- 33:16Speaker 4: left my husband on the couch like he was, like,
- 33:18Speaker 4: he's a big baseball person.
- 33:20Speaker 3: But though, but oh, we should have had him in
- 33:22Speaker 3: for this time.
- 33:22Speaker 4: I know, right, oh, he would have loved it. But yeah,
- 33:26Speaker 4: but you know what, I wanted to say this really
- 33:28Speaker 4: quick before we start this conversation that people are calling
- 33:31Speaker 4: this one of the if not one of the top
- 33:35Speaker 4: five game seven's in World Series history, and there's only
- 33:39Speaker 4: been like I think forty forty one, and they're saying
- 33:43Speaker 4: this is in the top five of this forty one
- 33:45Speaker 4: going back to the very beginning of baseball. That's how
- 33:47Speaker 4: exciting this game was.
- 33:50Speaker 3: And I heard eleven innings right, yes, yes, now help me? Well, okay,
- 33:58Speaker 3: I mean, I mean that's like how many overtimes in football?
- 34:03Speaker 4: You know, say, did you really just say that?
- 34:06Speaker 3: I'm just making the case, like truly like it, like
- 34:10Speaker 3: you like you'd have to have like five overtimes or
- 34:13Speaker 3: something in football too.
- 34:15Speaker 4: Base ignorance is showing.
- 34:16Speaker 3: But go ahead, I'm making a comparison, that's all.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Well, I mean, so I didn't watch the game. I'm
- 34:25Speaker 4: gonna sit here and be honest. I watched maybe the
- 34:27Speaker 4: first Let me.
- 34:28Speaker 3: This it just so I can clarify my ignorant tho. Okay,
- 34:31Speaker 3: how many times has has teams gone to eleven innings?
- 34:35Speaker 3: And and specifically in the World.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Series, I am not sure about that. I do know
- 34:41Speaker 4: in this World Series they had an eighteen inning game
- 34:44Speaker 4: in Game three of this series. So this was just
- 34:49Speaker 4: like it was. It was probably one of the best
- 34:51Speaker 4: World Series ever for somebody to watch.
- 34:55Speaker 3: And and you know, eighty yeah, if you're a baseball fan.
- 34:57Speaker 4: If you're a baseball fan, it was just truly phenomenal.
- 35:01Speaker 3: And you're talking about now, you're talking about two truly,
- 35:05Speaker 3: truly top teams that were Yeah, the competition was crazy. Right.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Well, and let's throw this in there, because I didn't
- 35:13Speaker 4: realize this until just the other day, but they also
- 35:17Speaker 4: have the best payrolls in Major League Baseball. Okay, well, hey,
- 35:22Speaker 4: so the biggest payroll in Major League Baseball for twenty
- 35:27Speaker 4: twenty five is the Mets. Okay, they're number one, but
- 35:31Speaker 4: they're only slightly above the Dodgers. I think the Mets
- 35:35Speaker 4: had three three hundred and twenty three point one million
- 35:38Speaker 4: to play with, and the Dodgers had three hundred and
- 35:41Speaker 4: twenty one point three million, So that's one and two.
- 35:45Speaker 4: The Blue Jays came in at five. But listen to this,
- 35:48Speaker 4: their money is two hundred and fifty five million. So
- 35:51Speaker 4: that to me, that's a that's a significant drop drop.
- 35:54Speaker 4: I mean, I know we're talking about millions here, yeah,
- 35:56Speaker 4: but I mean, to me, there there's a reason why
- 35:59Speaker 4: they were both in the World Series. You know, lots
- 36:03Speaker 4: of money to play with.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Are we buying championships?
- 36:09Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if I'd go that far.
- 36:11Speaker 4: But I mean, I think it matters how much money
- 36:12Speaker 4: you have on your payroll absolutely to get Yeah, I
- 36:17Speaker 4: mean that just goes hand in hand.
- 36:19Speaker 3: And I know that. I know that pictures are important.
- 36:22Speaker 3: I know hitters are important with that type of money.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Are you getting the best pictures? Are you getting the
- 36:29Speaker 3: best hitters?
- 36:30Speaker 4: You're the Dodgers. Yeah, they're starters, they're pitching all of it.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Yeah they're they're okay, they're okay.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Now okay, can you keep them?
- 36:43Speaker 4: Well, I mean as long as you pay them and
- 36:45Speaker 4: and and and.
- 36:46Speaker 3: But okay, so let's say I'm another team. I want
- 36:48Speaker 3: I want to come. I want to I want I
- 36:50Speaker 3: need that picture. Yeah, I need that third basement. I
- 36:52Speaker 3: need that guy. I'm not sure are they There's nothing
- 36:57Speaker 3: like football and basketball.
- 37:00Speaker 4: I don't know the rules, like, I don't know the contracts,
- 37:03Speaker 4: like how they work, like people just come in and
- 37:05Speaker 4: buy out your contract.
- 37:06Speaker 8: I do. Do you know?
- 37:07Speaker 4: They don't have like a cap obviously, so you know
- 37:12Speaker 4: how it works the end. But here's the thing. If
- 37:15Speaker 4: you're if you're just think about what you just said.
- 37:18Speaker 4: You're getting paid, right, a lot of money, okay, and
- 37:21Speaker 4: you're on a World Series championship team. What more would
- 37:25Speaker 4: you want? Like, why would you go somewhere else?
- 37:28Speaker 3: Gosh?
- 37:28Speaker 10: I think I think that there's much I think that
- 37:32Speaker 10: shows up in basketball. I think those guys, yeah, but
- 37:36Speaker 10: I think baseball's different. I would agree, I mean, I
- 37:39Speaker 10: would agree, I think, and I could be dead wrong.
- 37:42Speaker 10: And like I said, I am not a baseball guy. Yeah, okay,
- 37:48Speaker 10: but it seems to me baseball players are way more
- 37:54Speaker 10: loyal to their team and their teammates in potentially any
- 38:00Speaker 10: any other sport, or specifically football and basketball.
- 38:04Speaker 4: That's a good observation. I didn't think about that. I'm
- 38:07Speaker 4: you don't hear about the trades in baseball like you
- 38:10Speaker 4: do the other sports, for sure, and every once in
- 38:13Speaker 4: a while, but not often.
- 38:14Speaker 3: And okay, so am I require is the player requiring
- 38:18Speaker 3: the how many times? Not that you're just not really
- 38:22Speaker 3: asking you this question? But like, am I asking for
- 38:26Speaker 3: a trade? Am I asking to go to another team?
- 38:28Speaker 3: Or is the team saying we need to part ways
- 38:31Speaker 3: with that money? You know? Yeah? Because that's all the
- 38:35Speaker 3: other two. Yeah, in the other two, in our other
- 38:38Speaker 3: two sports, football and basketball, I can be making plenty,
- 38:43Speaker 3: plenty of money, but I want to go somewhere else
- 38:47Speaker 3: for the possibility of winning a championship, for the possibility
- 38:50Speaker 3: to getting more money, or the possibility of playing with you.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Any any of those reasons is justifiable for me. In
- 38:57Speaker 3: the other two sports, I don't know if baseball is
- 39:03Speaker 3: like that. I think you're on a team and you
- 39:07Speaker 3: stay there.
- 39:09Speaker 4: Why is that, you think? Is it just a whole
- 39:12Speaker 4: different mentality I do.
- 39:15Speaker 3: I think they.
- 39:15Speaker 4: I think when you they bond closer. I mean the players,
- 39:19Speaker 4: the coaches.
- 39:19Speaker 3: I mean, I think when you, let's say you you
- 39:22Speaker 3: you get drafted to the Cincinnati Reds, Okay, you're a
- 39:28Speaker 3: Cincinnati Red Yeah, and I'm here. This is where I
- 39:35Speaker 3: wanted to be, right, I'm staying here until, you know,
- 39:38Speaker 3: unless there's issues with contracts or something like that.
- 39:41Speaker 4: For the most part, there's so many story teams in
- 39:44Speaker 4: baseball because it's an older sport. I think, like the
- 39:48Speaker 4: Red Sox, I mean, you hear about you know, these
- 39:50Speaker 4: are teams that have been around. I mean, the Dodgers,
- 39:54Speaker 4: the Mets, the Yankees. I mean, if you're a Yankee,
- 39:58Speaker 4: you you that's pretty amazing.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Like you don't have to know anything about you don't
- 40:02Speaker 3: have to know anything about baseball. But there are teams
- 40:05Speaker 3: that you just know.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Yeah, you just say their name the mascot and they're like, okay,
- 40:09Speaker 4: you are.
- 40:10Speaker 3: And I think, and I think that what is what is?
- 40:14Speaker 3: What is different? Specifically in football. I'm happy to have
- 40:22Speaker 3: been a Viking all but one year, and I would
- 40:26Speaker 3: have closed my career out with the Vikings if they
- 40:29Speaker 3: hadn't cut me. So you had loyalty, yes I had, Yes, Yes,
- 40:35Speaker 3: I don't do anything with the Saints. No, you know,
- 40:38Speaker 3: I got some buddies there, but I just I don't
- 40:40Speaker 3: go back there. I don't do any of that. I
- 40:42Speaker 3: want to be known. I want everything about my football
- 40:46Speaker 3: career is all about being a Viking. I don't want
- 40:51Speaker 3: I have.
- 40:52Speaker 4: A theory about that. Oh okay. I think because of
- 40:56Speaker 4: this generation, starting with the transfers that can happen from
- 41:01Speaker 4: high school on that that the athletes don't develop a
- 41:06Speaker 4: sense of loyalty to a team because it's just it's
- 41:11Speaker 4: not something well, they're just not pot like, like you don't.
- 41:16Speaker 3: Have that to give you that. Gosh, I hate, I
- 41:18Speaker 3: hate to do that, but I'm gonna give you. I'm
- 41:20Speaker 3: going to give you that.
- 41:21Speaker 4: My goodness, Hollis Hollis, if you're listening, did you hear that.
- 41:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to give you that because it's not
- 41:31Speaker 3: the same. It's not, it's not.
- 41:33Speaker 4: I mean, you went to South Charleston High School, right,
- 41:37Speaker 4: You never thought about transferring out of that high school.
- 41:39Speaker 4: That wasn't even an option if you had fearce loyalty
- 41:42Speaker 4: to your high school. Still do went to Marshall, right,
- 41:46Speaker 4: stayed at Marshall your whole career dedicated to the Thundering Herds.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Still still is right at your school. And then you
- 41:53Speaker 4: went to the Viking's basically, and the.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Only team that's on the outside of that is the Saints, which, again,
- 42:01Speaker 3: that was your last that was my last season. Yeah,
- 42:04Speaker 3: I mean, you know, and again I was I wanted
- 42:07Speaker 3: to I wanted to play one more year and that
- 42:11Speaker 3: was the only place I had the opportunity to play.
- 42:16Speaker 3: But again, like like I just don't I can't imagine
- 42:22Speaker 3: like midway through my sophomore season at South Charleston thinking like,
- 42:30Speaker 3: you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna go I'm going to
- 42:34Speaker 3: play at Charleston High They're good. I'm going to go
- 42:36Speaker 3: play for them. You know, I'm gonna transfer.
- 42:38Speaker 4: First of all. You couldn't.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Yeah, you couldn't, but but I wouldn't.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Even you wouldn't even think about even if you could have.
- 42:44Speaker 3: You hated the teams that beat you.
- 42:46Speaker 4: There were they were rivalries, and so you which Hollis
- 42:50Speaker 4: would be proud of this conversation because he said that.
- 42:52Speaker 4: I mean, that's what's losing now.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Yes it is. It is like I don't want to
- 42:57Speaker 3: come play with you because you're good, right, I want
- 43:00Speaker 3: to beat you because you're good. Yes, So I want
- 43:03Speaker 3: to come at you if if you're you're a freshman
- 43:07Speaker 3: and I'm a freshman and we're playing football.
- 43:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I want to think about the team. You're not
- 43:12Speaker 4: just thinking about yourself.
- 43:13Speaker 3: No, No, I don't even know how as a Viking
- 43:20Speaker 3: hating the Bears, how could I play for them?
- 43:23Speaker 4: I thought you would say the Packers, Well with you.
- 43:26Speaker 3: I should have said the Packers. You're right, you know,
- 43:28Speaker 3: I'm off my I'm off my game today, because that
- 43:32Speaker 3: would have been so let me back up, let me
- 43:35Speaker 3: go back, let me go back. I would not want
- 43:38Speaker 3: to play for the Packers, I know, right, I just
- 43:40Speaker 3: I just wouldn't. I got a buddy who plays on
- 43:43Speaker 3: the pack I know, and I wouldn't don't. I don't
- 43:48Speaker 3: want to play with him. I want to play against him.
- 43:50Speaker 3: I can play with him quote in the Pro Bowl, right,
- 43:53Speaker 3: you know, and I can meet him and all that
- 43:56Speaker 3: kind of stuff. There's a there's a ton of guys
- 43:59Speaker 3: that I truly, truly, really really like Andre Risen, Andre Reid.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Those are guys I know, like I know know them right.
- 44:08Speaker 4: That's a mentality though, And I know.
- 44:10Speaker 3: I'm gonna play against them almost every year, and so
- 44:15Speaker 3: they know. They look on the schedule, they see the vikings,
- 44:18Speaker 3: they know, yeah, and we know we're gonna compete. We
- 44:22Speaker 3: know we're gonna do anything and everything that we possibly
- 44:25Speaker 3: can to to for them to scores, catch passes on me,
- 44:29Speaker 3: me to stop them. But you know what, as soon
- 44:31Speaker 3: as the game's over, we'll be at the fifty yard
- 44:34Speaker 3: line and we'll be laughing and joking and talking about
- 44:36Speaker 3: like what's.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Going on, how you've been d Which is the way
- 44:40Speaker 4: it should that, That's.
- 44:40Speaker 3: The way sports is supposed to be.
- 44:44Speaker 4: Right, right and all and again, So why do you
- 44:47Speaker 4: think that is though with baseball, because it seems like
- 44:50Speaker 4: they've kind of escaped that in a.
- 44:52Speaker 3: Way they how did they do that?
- 44:54Speaker 4: Just the story.
- 44:55Speaker 3: And I think that, I think the reality of going
- 45:00Speaker 3: to the Cincinnati Reds. You're part of this and for
- 45:05Speaker 3: everybody who already on that team, they show you, they
- 45:11Speaker 3: make you understand how historic this is, right, how important
- 45:16Speaker 3: this is. Now. You may get cut, you may get traded,
- 45:19Speaker 3: you may get any of those kinds of things happen, right,
- 45:21Speaker 3: those things happen, But you didn't choose. But you're not
- 45:23Speaker 3: choosing that your choices. Your choice is here.
- 45:29Speaker 4: And maybe, and maybe we're totally off base since we're
- 45:31Speaker 4: not real baseball experts. Maybe, and that's something maybe on
- 45:35Speaker 4: your Facebook, if people have a differing opinion of what
- 45:38Speaker 4: we're saying here, they should definitely jump on and let
- 45:41Speaker 4: us know.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Yeah, let's talk with Carly and hit me up, tell
- 45:45Speaker 3: me if I'm wrong or whatever.
- 45:47Speaker 4: We want to hear it. Yeah, But I mean, I'm
- 45:49Speaker 4: like you, I don't for some reason, And I don't know,
- 45:53Speaker 4: but you just don't hear about the trades, the cuts,
- 45:56Speaker 4: all of that in baseball unless it's a major name,
- 45:59Speaker 4: you know, and they got a major deal. But you
- 46:01Speaker 4: just don't hear about it as much as you do
- 46:03Speaker 4: in football world.
- 46:05Speaker 3: Yes, and and and and and I really think basketball,
- 46:11Speaker 3: I think basketball has really the worst they and they
- 46:19Speaker 3: just go from team to team like they're they're they're
- 46:22Speaker 3: ready to leave. And again, I don't even know if
- 46:25Speaker 3: it's leaving for money. I think it's just you know,
- 46:29Speaker 3: you look at Lebron and and you know people have
- 46:32Speaker 3: talked about him leaving to win championships. Right. You know
- 46:38Speaker 3: why what back in the day you built a championship
- 46:42Speaker 3: You didn't. You didn't You didn't be a free agent
- 46:45Speaker 3: and go to a championship team. You built a championship team.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Brought surrounding your players that that could that could get
- 46:54Speaker 4: the you could get the job done.
- 46:55Speaker 3: That Where did that go?
- 46:59Speaker 4: I'm telling you? And we always end up back on
- 47:02Speaker 4: this subject, but it's just so true. Just it's so impactful.
- 47:05Speaker 4: I mean, you think about what the transfer portal has
- 47:11Speaker 4: done to athletes. It just it's starting at a young age.
- 47:16Speaker 4: And I'm I mean, I'm not saying it's I don't
- 47:19Speaker 4: know what I'm saying, but I do think that it's
- 47:21Speaker 4: affected how players think about the sport that they play
- 47:25Speaker 4: in and how they will approach where they want to
- 47:30Speaker 4: play and who they want to play with. Because they
- 47:33Speaker 4: have they have a lot of choices, They have a
- 47:36Speaker 4: lot of free range. They pretty much are in control
- 47:39Speaker 4: of what they're going.
- 47:40Speaker 3: To do if to the parents. And I think I've
- 47:43Speaker 3: done this every time that we get on this subject.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Sports was meant not to necessarily play D one or
- 47:54Speaker 3: go to the NFL or NBA. Sports was really about
- 48:00Speaker 3: life lessons and understanding teamwork and all of those kinds
- 48:05Speaker 3: of things.
- 48:06Speaker 4: It's a good time to restate that, yes, your.
- 48:09Speaker 3: Child could very well be one of the best players
- 48:12Speaker 3: on a team and that team is not winning, right,
- 48:17Speaker 3: your child is going to learn way more staying there
- 48:23Speaker 3: right and building up his team, which is teamwork. Sure,
- 48:32Speaker 3: then saying my team is terrible, we don't have anybody
- 48:37Speaker 3: that can help my son play. We're going to go
- 48:40Speaker 3: somewhere else, right, And because if.
- 48:44Speaker 4: You're good enough to make it to the next level,
- 48:46Speaker 4: it doesn't matter where you are, They're gonna find you.
- 48:49Speaker 4: They're going to find you.
- 48:50Speaker 3: I'm telling you, and I'm I'm going to say it again.
- 48:55Speaker 3: I have never won a championship in junior high you sports,
- 49:02Speaker 3: junior high, high.
- 49:03Speaker 4: School or college, and you made it and I made
- 49:06Speaker 4: it right.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Don't tell me that they can't find you. I had
- 49:10Speaker 3: literally scouts from every team position, coaches from almost every
- 49:19Speaker 3: team coming to see me at Marshall. That's not bragging,
- 49:22Speaker 3: that's telling you that you don't have to win. Winning
- 49:26Speaker 3: is not the key. It is the work ethic that
- 49:29Speaker 3: you have to build you into something that the next level,
- 49:34Speaker 3: whatever that level is, is looking for you, going from
- 49:38Speaker 3: high school to high school, to high school to high
- 49:40Speaker 3: school to do what well.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Sometimes does that even backfire in the in the eyes
- 49:44Speaker 4: of an agent because they're looking at that player thinking, okay,
- 49:47Speaker 4: they have no sense of like dedication, They don't have
- 49:53Speaker 4: a sense of being able to take the heat when
- 49:57Speaker 4: it comes on, and you're going to be taking the
- 49:58Speaker 4: heat when you go to these different levels of collegiate
- 50:02Speaker 4: or or or you know, professional play. You know you're
- 50:05Speaker 4: gonna have to be able to endure losing and being
- 50:09Speaker 4: able to get better at things without just jumping ship
- 50:13Speaker 4: because you know, does that make sense?
- 50:15Speaker 3: Yes, yes it does. If if you can't handle adversity,
- 50:20Speaker 3: which is right, which is part of being losing and
- 50:24Speaker 3: being able to show back up next week and play
- 50:27Speaker 3: exactly as hard as you've played. If you can't do that,
- 50:32Speaker 3: what makes you think that you're going to be able
- 50:34Speaker 3: to go to a team that's winning and you're able
- 50:38Speaker 3: to work hard enough to get into the lineup. They
- 50:41Speaker 3: don't want you because the moment that you have a
- 50:45Speaker 3: bad game, a team's beating you and you are not
- 50:48Speaker 3: used to losing, you're you're punching out.
- 50:52Speaker 4: And that and that's not what they want. No, that's
- 50:54Speaker 4: not what they want to say at that.
- 50:55Speaker 3: They don't, they don't, they don't want. They don't want
- 51:00Speaker 3: that kind of person. And everybody, everybody says they want
- 51:08Speaker 3: to go D one. Everybody says they want to go
- 51:09Speaker 3: D one. Sure, Okay, what do you expect when you
- 51:15Speaker 3: get to a basketball team that's D one? What do
- 51:17Speaker 3: you expect to go to a football team that's a
- 51:20Speaker 3: D one program? Do you think that there's going to
- 51:24Speaker 3: be just a bunch of average players there?
- 51:27Speaker 4: Yeah, that's or it's going to be an easy like transition,
- 51:31Speaker 4: Like it's not that way.
- 51:32Speaker 3: I'm going to start as a freshman. Yeah, no, you're not.
- 51:35Speaker 4: No, I don't care where you go.
- 51:37Speaker 3: It's how that happen.
- 51:38Speaker 4: It doesn't matter where you go. I mean, unless you're
- 51:40Speaker 4: an exceptional freshman or something circumstances put you in that position.
- 51:44Speaker 4: Somebody gets hurt. You're not doing it, You're not.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Virginia Tech recruited me system. Yes, Virginia Tech recruited me
- 51:52Speaker 3: all the way up till actual time to start making
- 51:56Speaker 3: a decision. And they said they take me as a
- 51:58Speaker 3: walk on. Okay, Well, I got no money to go,
- 52:00Speaker 3: so that I go. I visited Marshall twice and the
- 52:05Speaker 3: second time when I went back, it was with Sonny
- 52:07Speaker 3: Randall and just him and and he had played in
- 52:12Speaker 3: the NFL, so that that was enough for me. Yeah,
- 52:17Speaker 3: that a gentleman who played for the NFL played receiver.
- 52:23Speaker 3: I'm a defensive back. He's going to be here. I'm
- 52:29Speaker 3: this is where I'm going.
- 52:30Speaker 4: At that point, he could develop your talent.
- 52:34Speaker 3: He was going to be able to tell me whether
- 52:35Speaker 3: or not he thought I could make it. Yeah. Now
- 52:38Speaker 3: Virginia Tech had cut me out, so I didn't have
- 52:40Speaker 3: anywhere else to go. I mean, I had some fair
- 52:42Speaker 3: I had fair mind. I had some some smaller, smaller schools.
- 52:47Speaker 3: Marshall was the biggest school that offered me at the end,
- 52:50Speaker 3: at the end of the road with and and it
- 52:52Speaker 3: was a losing team.
- 52:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I chose to go there. And you still made it,
- 52:59Speaker 4: I know, And probably. Like like you said, in the
- 53:02Speaker 4: long run, it was better for you there because you
- 53:05Speaker 4: had an ex NFL player that could give you, you know,
- 53:10Speaker 4: advice on what you're doing right.
- 53:13Speaker 3: At the end of every season, he told me the
- 53:15Speaker 3: first three seasons, I'm a I'm the freshman player of
- 53:18Speaker 3: the game. A week or season he tells me, I
- 53:24Speaker 3: have no chance to playing at the NFL. After the team,
- 53:26Speaker 3: after you know, you have your coach player meeting. He
- 53:29Speaker 3: told me that for three years.
- 53:31Speaker 4: Because he wanted to make you better, to stop working. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:36Speaker 4: I love him for that. Yeah yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 3: And I hated him when I walked out. What is
- 53:41Speaker 3: he talking about? I got this award, I got this head.
- 53:47Speaker 3: He would never let it, he would never sign.
- 53:50Speaker 4: That's the sign of a good coach.
- 53:51Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 53:52Speaker 4: And you made the right decision by far.
- 53:54Speaker 3: And I and I and and again. I'm telling you
- 53:57Speaker 3: when you start talking about thinking about going toge or
- 54:00Speaker 3: thinking about where you're going to play high school ball,
- 54:03Speaker 3: which is it shouldn't be a situation. You better be
- 54:08Speaker 3: able to handle whatever negativity that you think that you
- 54:12Speaker 3: shouldn't go to your your normals. Let's say you you
- 54:15Speaker 3: you live in South Tustan, you don't want to go
- 54:17Speaker 3: South aust because you got an issue with the coach.
- 54:19Speaker 4: All those you got to be able to handle the adversity.
- 54:24Speaker 3: That's the adversity, that part that you got to go.
- 54:26Speaker 4: That's the school you're supposed to have criticism. I mean,
- 54:29Speaker 4: that's the thing. You don't just jump ship because that
- 54:31Speaker 4: coach is trying to make you better, just like thank you.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's it. Think about it, parents, think
- 54:37Speaker 3: about it. What is happening when they're cussing your kid out.
- 54:42Speaker 3: They're cussing him out because they want to they want
- 54:45Speaker 3: to win, and they want your kid to be better.
- 54:48Speaker 4: Right, you know, bottom line it's it's it's not that
- 54:52Speaker 4: they're being mean, no, no, and.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Your kid can get better. But when you when you
- 55:00Speaker 3: when you when you get the football season, when you
- 55:02Speaker 3: get the basketball season, you get the baseball season, think
- 55:06Speaker 3: about how much work you put in prior to yeah,
- 55:10Speaker 3: the season.
- 55:11Speaker 4: Right, it's not about just the game.
- 55:13Speaker 3: Yeah, because a lot of times you just waiting for
- 55:16Speaker 3: football to show up. You're just waiting for basketball to
- 55:19Speaker 3: show up. You're just waiting for baseball to show up.
- 55:21Speaker 3: And you're gonna come out there and think like Okay,
- 55:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna be great. You might be great here, right,
- 55:27Speaker 3: but that's not gonna work. Maybe for a Division one team,
- 55:31Speaker 3: but there's a Division.
- 55:32Speaker 4: Two especially if you don't if you can't take the heat, if.
- 55:34Speaker 3: You can't take the heat, and you ain't putting any time.
- 55:36Speaker 4: In right, right, how did we get away from the
- 55:40Speaker 4: World Series?
- 55:41Speaker 3: It is?
- 55:44Speaker 4: Oh, you could always blame me. I don't really care you.
- 55:47Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, that's hilarious.
- 55:49Speaker 3: But you know, I don't know. Again, I don't even
- 55:52Speaker 3: know how we got there either.
- 55:54Speaker 4: Oh no, because we were basically saying we feel like
- 55:57Speaker 4: and we talked about the World Series, which was amazing,
- 56:00Speaker 4: and the money and uh and how we feel like
- 56:03Speaker 4: baseball players seem to have.
- 56:04Speaker 3: More loyalty because you brought that.
- 56:06Speaker 4: Yeah, well it just seems that way.
- 56:10Speaker 3: So yeah, it is. It does have. It does have
- 56:14Speaker 3: the loyalty that I think the other sports don't have.
- 56:17Speaker 4: Well, let me ask you this question because I don't
- 56:19Speaker 4: I know, we don't have much time left. But and
- 56:22Speaker 4: the audience is probably like, thank thank thank you, thank you. No,
- 56:26Speaker 4: how do they how do these teams generate this kind
- 56:28Speaker 4: of revenue to pay for these players? And I mean,
- 56:32Speaker 4: they don't have a salary cat where where's the money
- 56:34Speaker 4: coming from? That's what I'm that's a legitimate question for me,
- 56:37Speaker 4: and I like I said, come to the Facebook page
- 56:39Speaker 4: if you have answers, But where's it coming from?
- 56:42Speaker 3: I think in every sport it is TV revenue. I
- 56:46Speaker 3: think that much. I think TV revenue. TV revenue is
- 56:51Speaker 3: huge today.
- 56:52Speaker 4: So between you're talking like between three just three teams.
- 56:59Speaker 4: You're talking about three hundred and twenty three I'm not
- 57:01Speaker 4: doing the math. Three hundred twenty one million, two hundred
- 57:04Speaker 4: fifty five million, that's just three teams.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Yes, and again I think you got TV revenue, which
- 57:10Speaker 3: is out of the park. You have, you have home games.
- 57:15Speaker 4: I know the fans. I can't imagine what you pay
- 57:18Speaker 4: at a baseball game for refreshments and tickets.
- 57:21Speaker 3: I think, I think there's there's just so much. There's
- 57:24Speaker 3: so many small things that that we we we ignore,
- 57:30Speaker 3: we ignore, Like when they talk about how many people
- 57:32Speaker 3: in the stands they all paid, they all paid. Yeah,
- 57:37Speaker 3: and you know that as you when you go to
- 57:39Speaker 3: WVU games, you know, yeah, well.
- 57:42Speaker 4: Yeah, but but yeah, I mean professional games are definitely
- 57:45Speaker 4: more expensive. I mean my girlfriend and I when we
- 57:46Speaker 4: went to the Pittsburgh game just a couple of weeks
- 57:48Speaker 4: ago or last weekend. Actually it feels like a couple
- 57:50Speaker 4: of weeks.
- 57:51Speaker 7: Uh.
- 57:51Speaker 4: It was unbelievable what we paid for, like a coke
- 57:54Speaker 4: and a hot dog. I mean it was it was
- 57:56Speaker 4: out of this world?
- 57:57Speaker 3: Can can you can you tell me?
- 57:58Speaker 4: Like, oh, okay, Like I think that the drink was
- 58:02Speaker 4: like ten dollars and the hot dog was like fifteen?
- 58:06Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 58:07Speaker 4: No, I'm not joking. And the tickets, I mean, well,
- 58:12Speaker 4: we ended up getting like club level seats because it
- 58:15Speaker 4: was cold and we wanted we only do this once
- 58:17Speaker 4: like every three or four years. Our seats, which were
- 58:20Speaker 4: actually some of the cheapest. We talked to people that
- 58:22Speaker 4: were sitting around us. We got them on step up.
- 58:24Speaker 4: Our seats were four hundred and twelve dollars apiece.
- 58:28Speaker 3: I don't have. There's not a sport that I know
- 58:31Speaker 3: of that I would pay four hundred dollars to get into.
- 58:35Speaker 4: Well, like I said, this was a gool. We had
- 58:38Speaker 4: saved money. I don't want people to think I'm money
- 58:40Speaker 4: bags here. I'm not, but I mean we had saved
- 58:42Speaker 4: money for this trip. So yeah, we And I'm trying
- 58:45Speaker 4: to look up what World Series tickets are.
- 58:51Speaker 3: We'll we'll be closed out for the show by the
- 58:53Speaker 3: time you find it.
- 58:54Speaker 4: Okay, it's right here, and then we can close it out.
- 58:58Speaker 4: The cheapest general admission tickets for Game seven in Toronto
- 59:01Speaker 4: started around one four hundred and twenty to one thousand,
- 59:04Speaker 4: five hundred and eighty eight, and average prices reaching over
- 59:07Speaker 4: two thousand, three hundreds.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Who is paying that to see that? How many people
- 59:13Speaker 3: are paying that?
- 59:14Speaker 4: Some premium seats listed over twenty thousand.
- 59:19Speaker 3: That's unbelievable.
- 59:19Speaker 4: Well that's you know, that's your movie stars and you
- 59:22Speaker 4: know people that come from that kind of Yeah, there's
- 59:27Speaker 4: just no way. There's just no way the average person
- 59:29Speaker 4: is going to that game. No, no, And how could
- 59:34Speaker 4: you go to more than more than one? Like I said,
- 59:37Speaker 4: my girlfriend and I went to this game, and I
- 59:39Speaker 4: couldn't go to another pro game this year. I mean,
- 59:41Speaker 4: that's it for me, Like I can't be I imagine
- 59:44Speaker 4: I havn't season tickets for these games, and once again
- 59:47Speaker 4: we're down another rabbit hole. But I mean, I'm just saying,
- 59:49Speaker 4: like the money that the revenue generated by professional sports,
- 59:53Speaker 4: all professional sports, just it's just mind blowing.
- 59:57Speaker 3: It really is well. We were everywhere we got every week.
