- 0:04Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Plenty of things happening
- 0:12Speaker 1: this morning. Yes, we still have your Legally Blonde musical tickets.
- 0:15Speaker 1: We've got your gypsy dining experience and the cast of
- 0:18Speaker 1: Legally Blonde. Also,
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'm here.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Oh yes, and you? All
- 0:22Speaker 2: good. Yeah.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Wow. What a morning.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You
- 0:25Speaker 1: better
- 0:25Speaker 2: be here. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 1: And a few minutes ago you might have heard Joakim
- 0:32Speaker 1: pant and say like, yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm here thankfully.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Can you please give some context because
- 0:38Speaker 2: can I just say I'm very happy the World Cup
- 0:40Speaker 2: only happens once every 4 years.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Dude, I don't, as a, as a partner, a work
- 0:45Speaker 1: partner in your life, um, I can't imagine if like
- 0:48Speaker 1: a real partner, like a real life girlfriend or something
- 0:51Speaker 1: that you eventually did, how will she deal with this
- 0:55Speaker 1: time zone?
- 0:55Speaker 2: She'll be there with me la.
- 0:57Speaker 1: OK, if you find a.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Girl that loves
- 0:59Speaker 1: football.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yes, so I'm fresh from Chimes fresh from England against Argentina.
- 1:04Speaker 1: OK, not spelling too though, but,
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm
- 1:07Speaker 2: kidding, I'm kidding. Just one
- 1:09Speaker 2: pint of Guinness.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And uh early on when we came into the studio, right,
- 1:13Speaker 1: I was just saying that like, didn't really say much. He,
- 1:17Speaker 1: he wasn't really expressing much from
- 1:20Speaker 1: The game that he supposedly watched last night, so you
- 1:23Speaker 1: barely slept. And uh so I logged on, I googled
- 1:27Speaker 1: it and I realized why you weren't saying anything.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Can I
- 1:30Speaker 2: say something? You are Oracle Sonia Chew. OK,
- 1:34Speaker 1: I only started, well, only for this round lah. I
- 1:38Speaker 1: wasn't right. Yesterday
- 1:39Speaker 2: during sports news at 8 a.m. I remember saying this
- 1:43Speaker 2: Sonia Chew come for fun.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Take the score and who will win. You said Argentina 2-1.
- 1:49Speaker 2: True enough.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's it's 2-1.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Argentina 2, England 1. Wow,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I'm shocked because so far if you followed our video
- 1:58Speaker 1: where I said I told you my predictions, right, um,
- 2:01Speaker 1: in the beginning, everything was kind of like the opposite
- 2:04Speaker 1: and then I guess now it's slowly aligning.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Spain against Argentina, but can I walk you through everything?
- 2:12Speaker 2: I got to Chimes at about maybe say 1:45 a.m.
- 2:17Speaker 2: so early
- 2:18Speaker 1: it was packed. Oh, people wanted a good seat.
- 2:21Speaker 2: The
- 2:21Speaker 1: lawn
- 2:21Speaker 2: was packed. If you're gonna go for the finals or
- 2:25Speaker 2: the third place game, go early.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Really. I mean, this explains why the roads were emptier
- 2:31Speaker 1: than usual early this morning. I think.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You want to bet how many people paying MC today. Yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 2: so my girlfriend and I decided to go to the
- 2:40Speaker 2: bar downstairs. They have minimum spend
- 2:43Speaker 1: of what, like 80
- 2:45Speaker 2: dollars per person.
- 2:46Speaker 1: $80 per person. OK. One beer. There is no happy hour.
- 2:50Speaker 1: So one beer is what,
- 2:51Speaker 2: like 4 drinks in total per person. Yeah, what? No, no, yeah,
- 2:56Speaker 2: it's a bit too much if you ask
- 2:58Speaker 2: me.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So was the bar emptier or no,
- 3:00Speaker 2: it
- 3:00Speaker 2: was packed downstairs as well just did it because this
- 3:03Speaker 2: was a big game and when England scored first, everybody went, wow,
- 3:07Speaker 2: we could actually make the final and I was happy.
- 3:11Speaker 2: And then when I saw the coach Thomas Tuchel put
- 3:15Speaker 2: in more defenders and they looked like they were defending,
- 3:18Speaker 2: no longer attacking, just inviting Argentina to attack and attack
- 3:22Speaker 2: and attack.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Had a bad feeling and true enough, the 84th and
- 3:26Speaker 2: 90 + 1 on injury time, Argentina scored twice in
- 3:31Speaker 2: a matter of seven minutes. So congrats to them. Lionel
- 3:35Speaker 2: Messi assisting both goals.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Oh wow, nice. Yeah. Do you get some award for
- 3:39Speaker 1: that or
- 3:40Speaker 2: no? I mean, if he maintains the top scorer, the
- 3:45Speaker 2: assists will help him. So for example, if he and
- 3:47Speaker 2: Kylian Mbappe are tied.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Depending on who has more assists, Messi might win the
- 3:52Speaker 2: Golden Boot.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So Golden Boot is just for the top scorer World
- 3:56Speaker 1: Cup for the World Cup. OK, OK, now I get it.
- 3:59Speaker 1: So
- 3:59Speaker 2: it's Lamin Yamal against Lionel Messi in the final. Let's
- 4:02Speaker 2: see what happens. So,
- 4:04Speaker 1: uh, sorry, this dude, he's like a really big person
- 4:08Speaker 1: he's really famous too, right? He's 19. I've heard his
- 4:11Speaker 1: name many times. He is
- 4:13Speaker 2: very popular because he's to to be the future of
- 4:15Speaker 2: football and he's so talented.
- 4:18Speaker 1: OK, OK. Alright. Well, thanks for the updates.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Just you want to go back to nap or what
- 4:23Speaker 1: for the next 5 minutes? I'm assuming you got no sleep.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Go home, manifest this tomorrow before we hit the weekend.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I'll get you to predict
- 4:32Speaker 2: the final.
- 4:32Speaker 1: OK, so just last week, you might have been laughing
- 4:36Speaker 1: along with us or laughing at me for suspecting that
- 4:39Speaker 1: I might have bought a fake Stanley Cup. OK. When
- 4:43Speaker 1: I told Joakim the story, he just laughed. He was like, dude,
- 4:45Speaker 1: this sounds exactly like something you would do.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I mean,
- 4:48Speaker 2: if I were
- 4:48Speaker 1: you,
- 4:49Speaker 2: yeah.
- 4:49Speaker 2: The moment I suspect something, I would address it.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so, so what happened was it triggered off my
- 4:56Speaker 1: suspicions when I ran into one of our bosses actually
- 4:59Speaker 1: that had the same cup, but it looks different, like
- 5:02Speaker 1: kind of the colorway is different. So then, OK, I,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I also felt like there was something strange about like
- 5:09Speaker 1: the smell of the cup because I washed it like
- 5:11Speaker 1: every day.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Um, but then, you know, some people were saying, oh,
- 5:14Speaker 1: could it be like the soap that you're using in
- 5:16Speaker 1: the office or something?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Can I ask, have you bought a new one already?
- 5:21Speaker 1: I
- 5:21Speaker 1: haven't, and here's why. So ever since we opened up
- 5:24Speaker 1: phone lines and we talked about it, there was an
- 5:26Speaker 1: ex-Sanley Cup distributor that actually called us, right? And then
- 5:30Speaker 1: he said, OK, identify using these things like, OK, do
- 5:33Speaker 1: you see this? Do you see that? Like what do
- 5:35Speaker 1: you observe? He actually it sounds like it's real.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It's just a defective one that could be, could be
- 5:41Speaker 1: a defective unit. That's why you got it at like what,
- 5:43Speaker 1: $20 off or something on an e-commerce, right? Um, just
- 5:47Speaker 1: a couple of days ago, I received a message from, um,
- 5:52Speaker 1: the agency representing Stanley themselves. Apparently, Stanley Cup's opening a
- 5:57Speaker 1: physical store here in Singapore in Jewel this week, and
- 6:01Speaker 1: they invited me to go because they heard the entire thing.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It was hilarious. I just burst out laughing.
- 6:08Speaker 2: In that
- 6:09Speaker 2: case, if you're going, can you one cup
- 6:11Speaker 1: for
- 6:11Speaker 2: me
- 6:11Speaker 1: one more cup for you. I don't know, like you
- 6:13Speaker 1: and your cups you keep on replacing them, losing them,
- 6:17Speaker 1: dropping them. No, no,
- 6:18Speaker 2: no, no, no. If you get me the Stanley Cup,
- 6:19Speaker 2: I'll put it in my
- 6:19Speaker 2: locker.
- 6:20Speaker 1: OK, OK, OK, yeah, you do that. So I'll update
- 6:23Speaker 1: you on what happens if I can make it for,
- 6:25Speaker 1: for their opening event because it was, it all happened
- 6:27Speaker 1: so fast.
- 6:28Speaker 2: They should make you
- 6:28Speaker 2: the ambassador of Stanley Cup. Yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 1: there you go. Honestly, just something to laugh at and
- 6:35Speaker 1: Maybe hopefully if we can figure something out with them,
- 6:38Speaker 1: maybe I can give some cups to you too.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Hi,
- 6:42Speaker 2: I'm Stanley Cup, don't buy a fake one.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Stop. That doesn't even sound like a good ad. We'd
- 6:47Speaker 1: love to open up phone lines right now for your
- 6:49Speaker 1: dedications and your requests.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Maybe you are equally heartbroken as I am for
- 6:54Speaker 1: England or maybe you're celebrating. Yes,
- 6:57Speaker 2: for Argentina, if you're a Spain fan as well.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I think in a span of 50 minutes, you caught
- 7:02Speaker 2: me napping in the studio, what, 3 times
- 7:04Speaker 1: already? Yeah, maybe 5 actually.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And thanks for posting that video on TikTok 987. You know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: any chance to catch each other at our worst, you
- 7:12Speaker 1: know what I mean? Yeah, that's entertainment.
- 7:14Speaker 2: 669-11987. Call us, let us know which school you're from
- 7:18Speaker 2: and request for your favorite song to play here on
- 7:20Speaker 2: the circuit. Yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 1: we'd love
- 7:21Speaker 1: to get that for you.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So in case you missed it, well, I'm from.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Chimes over at the City Hall area. I'm in the
- 7:28Speaker 2: studio struggling to stay awake, but England against Argentina, England 1,
- 7:33Speaker 2: Argentina 2 at full time. That means on Sunday morning,
- 7:38Speaker 2: 5 a.m. the third-place playoff between France and England will happen.
- 7:43Speaker 2: And then Monday morning, 3 a.m., 20th of July, it's
- 7:48Speaker 2: Spain against Argentina.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Argentina, who's gonna win it? I think it's really up
- 7:54Speaker 2: in the air, this one.
- 7:55Speaker 1: You think it's gonna be really tight? Yeah,
- 7:57Speaker 2: because Spain are the best team so far in the
- 8:00Speaker 2: World Cup. They've not conceded at
- 8:02Speaker 2: all.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Conceded means like letting
- 8:04Speaker 2: a goal. So they always win by a
- 8:07Speaker 1: clean sheet. They always score, but they've never allowed someone
- 8:11Speaker 1: to score. Is that what you mean?
- 8:12Speaker 2: They've not conceded yet. And for Argentina, I mean.
- 8:15Speaker 2: The fighting spirit and the one to retain being world
- 8:19Speaker 2: champions for the first time ever back to back. Let's
- 8:22Speaker 2: see if it happens. And Lionel Messi, if he starts
- 8:25Speaker 2: the final, he'll be the second of two players to
- 8:28Speaker 2: only to play all, uh, three World Cup finals in
- 8:32Speaker 2: his lifetime, 2014, 2022, and
- 8:34Speaker 2: 2026.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And he's not even 40, right? Or he's, he's pushing 40.
- 8:38Speaker 2: He's 39 this year.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Great, great career, man. OK, we're heading to phone lines
- 8:44Speaker 1: before you get to school. Good morning. Who's this? Hi. Hi,
- 8:47Speaker 1: what's your name?
- 8:48Speaker 2: Uh, Natalie
- 8:49Speaker 1: and Nathan. Hey, Natalie and Nathan, which school are you from?
- 8:54Speaker 2: What's amazing about Chong Cheng Primary Natalie and Nathan?
- 8:58Speaker 1: OK. You're friends. OK, so speaking of friends, what song
- 9:01Speaker 1: would you like to dedicate to them this morning? Wakawaka,
- 9:04Speaker 1: it's time for Africa.
- 9:06Speaker 2: From 2010, I think we still have it in our system,
- 9:09Speaker 2: the World Cup back then.
- 9:10Speaker 1: We
- 9:11Speaker 1: do actually. OK, you know what? Just for laughs, why not?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Let's play it. Alright. That's coming up for you next.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Have a great day at school, guys. So like I
- 9:19Speaker 1: said earlier, I, I just take you down some memories
- 9:22Speaker 1: when it comes to your teenage life and spending time
- 9:25Speaker 1: at chalets. Do you still remember
- 9:27Speaker 1: that?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Wow, I remember to always tell a lie to my mom.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Oh why some sports camp, sports camp, but
- 9:34Speaker 1: actually chalet, right? Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, chalet with
- 9:36Speaker 2: your friends. I mean, technically I'm not wrong. It was
- 9:38Speaker 2: like a track and field gathering, OK, but chalet, there
- 9:41Speaker 2: you go.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So what, what was it about it she didn't let
- 9:44Speaker 1: you go? Like why, why didn't she let you go?
- 9:46Speaker 2: You know, teenagers in a house together. Oh,
- 9:50Speaker 1: but it was honestly it was pretty fun. Like we
- 9:51Speaker 1: did like barbecue, you know, we had drinks and everything,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and it was like.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Because none of us have our own house, right? Like
- 9:59Speaker 1: it's either you go to a friend's house to celebrate,
- 10:01Speaker 1: I don't know, birthday or whatever, um, but of course
- 10:04Speaker 1: you have your family there, or you rent a chalet.
- 10:09Speaker 2: No,
- 10:09Speaker 1: no, I, um, oh, I only started going to chalets
- 10:11Speaker 1: when I was in poly, actually. Yeah, yeah, yeah, very different,
- 10:16Speaker 1: very different. I don't think I had any chalet stays
- 10:19Speaker 1: as when I was in secondary school actually. Did your
- 10:22Speaker 1: parents disallow it? No, um, we just didn't do it.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I think because I had a friend who she, she
- 10:28Speaker 1: lives in a pretty big house. So she was the
- 10:30Speaker 1: one that hosted the sleepovers and the chalet. Yes, yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 1: and she has a very, she has very cool parents.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Her mom was the one that was like, oh, you know, um,
- 10:40Speaker 1: I'd rather you guys do a sleepover here. She prepared
- 10:42Speaker 1: like snacks and food for us. We had movie nights
- 10:44Speaker 1: and all that. It's very cute.
- 10:45Speaker 2: So she could keep an eye on
- 10:46Speaker 2: all of you.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but she was very cool. She never imposed. Anyway,
- 10:50Speaker 1: so speaking of chalets, I'm sure you would know of
- 10:53Speaker 1: some over in the Changi area.
- 10:55Speaker 1: That when I look at these photos, actually, low-key, I,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I used to think they look quite creepy, these chalets
- 11:01Speaker 1: over in Changi. Oh, OK,
- 11:02Speaker 2: the ones near the old Changi Hospital. It's, I,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I would say sort of, but um this is more
- 11:08Speaker 1: along Jalan Loyang Basar, which actually I lived near Loy
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yang a long time ago. So yes, you're not wrong,
- 11:13Speaker 1: it is very near, you know, Changi, Old Changi Hospital and.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Changi Prison, right? Yeah, so this has been around for
- 11:21Speaker 1: a very long time. It was a former state-owned holiday
- 11:24Speaker 1: chalet along that stretch. Then it also previously served as
- 11:28Speaker 1: a temporary workers' dormitory, so it had a few purposes.
- 11:32Speaker 1: It has officially been given a second lease of life.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Someone is taking over. It's about 40 years old now.
- 11:39Speaker 1: It underwent a 10.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Month restoration and renovation to now become the Kollywood Resort Changi.
- 11:46Speaker 1: This is Singapore's first resort style co-living destination. If you're
- 11:51Speaker 1: familiar with the brand Kollywood, I don't know if you've
- 11:53Speaker 1: seen it before, they have some co-living spaces already across Singapore.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I have to say it looks really good. It spans
- 12:00Speaker 1: across like 380 1000 square feet of.
- 12:02Speaker 1: land area. It has living and commercial spaces. It's got
- 12:06Speaker 1: a massive pool. They've done it up so nicely. Um,
- 12:09Speaker 1: the exterior is colorful, beautiful. The inside is all brand
- 12:13Speaker 1: new and it looks like they went for this quite
- 12:16Speaker 1: minimalist look on the inside, very nice, very chill-looking resort life.
- 12:21Speaker 1: There's an adult's pool, children's pool, jacuzzi, fully equipped gym.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And a sports court
- 12:26Speaker 1: as well.
- 12:26Speaker 2: And if you need your groceries or drinks, downtown right there,
- 12:30Speaker 2: not too
- 12:30Speaker 1: far, yeah. So a lot of sustainability opportunities there too.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So it's a sprawling like garden looking co-living community. I, I,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I like it. It's given them a new lease of
- 12:41Speaker 1: life because when I look back at those old pictures
- 12:43Speaker 1: of the Chinese.
- 12:44Speaker 1: L, right? Give me a bit of goosebumps. I used
- 12:47Speaker 1: to remember how creepy it was to walk, like, walk
- 12:49Speaker 1: there at night.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Don't be surprised. Your team bonding retreat could be at
- 12:54Speaker 2: this place.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Could be, it could be, and they have the space
- 12:57Speaker 1: for it too. So, um, maybe suggestions for 987. I
- 13:00Speaker 1: don't know what will happen if we all had to
- 13:02Speaker 1: stay there.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I mean, if I go missing, just find me over
- 13:05Speaker 2: at Downtown East.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Wow, wow, wet of all places. We've been there before.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I wonder whether there'll be a part two since the
- 13:14Speaker 1: first one was so wildly successful. They might just do
- 13:17Speaker 1: a part two. We never know.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Brad Pitt comes back again, is it Sonny Hayes? You know,
- 13:22Speaker 1: that, that show did, I mean, that movie did unbelievably well, right?
- 13:26Speaker 1: And I think he was really, um, he was really
- 13:29Speaker 1: praised for his acting.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Can I say?
- 13:31Speaker 2: I enjoyed about the F1 movie aside from the very
- 13:36Speaker 2: nice camera angles and all that, the romance, not just that,
- 13:40Speaker 2: but it was all the actual Formula One drivers on
- 13:43Speaker 2: the red carpet when the reporters asked them, oh, so
- 13:46Speaker 2: what are your thoughts about the movie? All of them
- 13:49Speaker 2: avoided the question.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Oh, no, OK, look, I understand that from
- 13:55Speaker 1: From that point of view. For example, if someone were
- 13:58Speaker 1: to make a behind the scenes movie of us as
- 14:01Speaker 1: radio DJs, right? I'm sure the radio DJs will be
- 14:04Speaker 1: very critical of it. If you made like Wolf of
- 14:07Speaker 1: Wall Street, for example, how the finance world is portrayed.
- 14:10Speaker 1: The people in the finance world will be very critical
- 14:12Speaker 1: of it. It's the same thing. So it's very normal
- 14:15Speaker 1: for them to have hyper-criticism.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Fair
- 14:17Speaker 2: enough. I think if Bohn directed our behind the scenes thing,
- 14:22Speaker 2: it might do well.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Why? Because very artistic, is it?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Oh, let's see who, which other director
- 14:30Speaker 1: Jack Neo. As Jack Neo do for us, I
- 14:32Speaker 2: think that one.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Let's see how it goes. I think
- 14:34Speaker 1: it'll be very entertaining. I'm not gonna lie, it'll be
- 14:37Speaker 1: super entertaining, and he's been here to this studio before.
- 14:40Speaker 1: That
- 14:40Speaker 2: means you'll see Tosh Rock, Noah Yap as radio DJs.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Joan
- 14:42Speaker 1: site. Yes, I can't, I can't help them here.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Anyway, um, coming up next, we do have tickets for
- 14:51Speaker 1: you to catch Legally Blonde, the
- 14:53Speaker 1: musical.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Running over at SRT and don't forget they're coming in
- 14:58Speaker 2: the studio in a matter of hours. We got Riley,
- 15:01Speaker 2: Nathan Antono, and Natanya Ong.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yes, we're really excited. Natalia was just here like a
- 15:05Speaker 1: couple of months back, actually not too long ago. We
- 15:08Speaker 1: can't wait to catch up.
- 15:08Speaker 1: With them iconic, an iconic movie from the early 2000s
- 15:13Speaker 1: that has since been adapted into many things such as musicals.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Legally Blonde, the musical here in Singapore, led by an
- 15:21Speaker 1: all-star
- 15:21Speaker 1: cast,
- 15:22Speaker 2: starring the likes of Natalia Ong, we got Nathan Hartono, Riley,
- 15:26Speaker 2: and I'm just scrolling through the cast list.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Pierre Peng. Yeah, hello. City Kalegia. I want to
- 15:33Speaker 2: say hello to theater veteran Dwayne Lou. He's in the
- 15:36Speaker 2: in the musical as well and supported by all sorts
- 15:40Speaker 2: of talented people who can sing and dance. Congratulations
- 15:43Speaker 1: everyone. Yeah, we're so excited for it. Um, in fact,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I'm about to get my tickets already, so for it.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm really excited to watch it.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Um, and we want you there too, by the way,
- 15:52Speaker 1: 4th of August, if I'm not wrong, we have your tickets.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So give us a call 669-11987 all throughout this week
- 15:58Speaker 1: asking you this one question. Now, based off the plots
- 16:02Speaker 1: of Legally Blonde, loosely based off it, here's your question.
- 16:06Speaker 1: If you decided, you know what, in the middle of
- 16:09Speaker 1: my life and my career, I want to do a
- 16:12Speaker 1: career switch and do something completely opposite, what would you do?
- 16:17Speaker 1: What about you? What's your answer?
- 16:20Speaker 2: If I, if I had the chance, if I had
- 16:21Speaker 2: the qualifications, an accountant, yeah, just to
- 16:24Speaker 2: scratch that itch,
- 16:25Speaker 1: you know I wanna be a dermatologist actually.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I know you laugh because yeah, doctor and me don't
- 16:32Speaker 1: really go,
- 16:32Speaker 2: right? How about this? I help your skincare center do
- 16:35Speaker 2: the accounts. You help me with my skin. Can,
- 16:37Speaker 1: can, yes, yeah,
- 16:38Speaker 2: there you go. Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 1: So this, this would be my midlife career pivot. What
- 16:43Speaker 1: they call
- 16:43Speaker 2: this, you scratch my back, I scratch yours.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But you know what, I think being a doctor, dermatologist
- 16:48Speaker 1: is gonna take a long time, so maybe I'll give
- 16:50Speaker 1: up on that
- 16:50Speaker 2: dream.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Right now. Give us a call at 669-11987. If you
- 16:55Speaker 1: were to do a midlife career switch and do something
- 16:59Speaker 1: completely opposite, get creative with it. Tell us what you
- 17:02Speaker 1: would do. A pair of tickets to Legally Blonde coming
- 17:04Speaker 1: your
- 17:04Speaker 1: way.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And you're going for the one that will be staged
- 17:06Speaker 2: on the 4th of August. Cheer
- 17:08Speaker 1: and repeat it. It's right here on 987, Singapore's number
- 17:11Speaker 1: one hit music station. Thank you for joining us here
- 17:13Speaker 1: this morning.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Now it seems like we still have a bit of
- 17:16Speaker 1: a glitch when it's coming to our phone lines, but
- 17:18Speaker 1: we managed to pick up Megan's call. So we followed
- 17:20Speaker 1: up with a story of hers on, uh, WhatsApp.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Megan sharing about how she's doing currently and she wants
- 17:27Speaker 2: to actually try being a botanist in the future. Wow,
- 17:30Speaker 1: OK. I mean, hey, look, you know, if you just
- 17:33Speaker 1: wake up one day and you can try something else,
- 17:36Speaker 1: I think that would be so cool, right? I mean,
- 17:37Speaker 2: I wish I asked more questions, but this sounds like.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Something like maybe she's doing law because her parents say
- 17:43Speaker 2: you're going to do law first. Then maybe her true
- 17:46Speaker 2: passion is being a botanist.
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean, I have a friend who who did medicine
- 17:51Speaker 1: like studied the whole, the whole way, right? Um, but
- 17:55Speaker 1: she actually really enjoyed doing scriptwriting and like media stuff.
- 18:00Speaker 1: So eventually she did both, like she did the media
- 18:03Speaker 1: stuff on the side just for fun.
- 18:05Speaker 1: And eventually she decided to pursue media full time, you know.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I think it's quite, quite cool. I mean it's brave.
- 18:10Speaker 2: You know what, Megan, thank you so much for sharing
- 18:12Speaker 2: your story. What's coming your way, of course, a pair
- 18:14Speaker 2: of tickets to go watch Legally Blonde.
- 18:18Speaker 2: On the 4th of August over at the Esplanade Theater.
- 18:21Speaker 1: It's gonna be such a feel-good evening for you and
- 18:24Speaker 1: whoever you decide to bring with you. This pair of
- 18:27Speaker 1: tickets is officially yours, and I believe that if you want,
- 18:30Speaker 1: you can also follow them on social media platforms.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yes,
- 18:32Speaker 1: you can. Yeah, please do. And we have the cast,
- 18:35Speaker 1: by the way, coming in at just past 9 a.m.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 18:38Speaker 2: So our friends over at MOE, I think yesterday they
- 18:41Speaker 2: released on when school will start next year already so quickly.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm very happy to announce that, you know,
- 18:49Speaker 2: some years, right, school starts on a random Wednesday,
- 18:53Speaker 1: yeah, sometimes you feel like next week or Friday yeah.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Did that just happen sometime this or last year.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Next year, if you're in primary 1 and kindergarten 1,
- 19:06Speaker 2: you will start school 4th of Jan. It's a Monday. Yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 2: but for secondary school kids, 4th of Jan you start
- 19:12Speaker 2: school already and then.
- 19:14Speaker 2: If you're in primary 2 to 6 and K2, you
- 19:16Speaker 2: will start school on Tuesday, the 5th of Jan.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Oh, why is it like that?
- 19:21Speaker 2: I think they want to give the P1s some time
- 19:23Speaker 2: to orientate and the K1s as well.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I never noticed that. It's always been like this.
- 19:27Speaker 2: There you go. At least we're starting on a Monday
- 19:29Speaker 2: and Tuesday. Yeah,
- 19:31Speaker 1: um, I, I think sometimes when you start on a Friday,
- 19:34Speaker 1: which I believe happened quite recently, we did get some
- 19:38Speaker 1: students calling us going like, why, why?
- 19:41Speaker 1: I go to school for one day.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I actually agree. Yeah, maybe next time if this were
- 19:49Speaker 2: to happen, just give one more day holiday,
- 19:52Speaker 1: one more day. But see, who are we to decide, right?
- 19:56Speaker 1: We're just here talking. I don't know if anyone will
- 19:59Speaker 1: take on any of these
- 20:00Speaker 1: suggestions.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I mean, look, if we had powers for adults, we'll
- 20:04Speaker 2: still make Children's Day and Youth Day a holiday for us,
- 20:07Speaker 1: for you lah. Hey,
- 20:09Speaker 2: hello.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Don't leave me alone.
- 20:11Speaker 1: You, you say yes. Children, I don't think we can
- 20:13Speaker 1: identify anymore, Joe, like for real.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I think maybe some adults still can. OK,
- 20:17Speaker 1: it's not you, right?
- 20:18Speaker 2: OK. Congratulations to Chris Nolan. Yep,
- 20:21Speaker 1: The Odyssey out in cinemas today, actually. Yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 2: everyone was kind of curious about it. The reviews are in.
- 20:28Speaker 2: The critics are in as well. It's a bit.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Fifty-fifty. You either enjoy it or you
- 20:33Speaker 2: don't.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I think the, the only thing was that people had
- 20:38Speaker 1: a lot of opinions when it came to the casting
- 20:40Speaker 1: before the movie even came out, right? So a lot
- 20:43Speaker 1: of people talking already, but I, I kind of want
- 20:46Speaker 1: to believe Christopher Nolan knows what he's doing.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I hope
- 20:49Speaker 2: I
- 20:50Speaker 2: mean, only the director of movies like Inception.
- 20:54Speaker 2: The Dark Knight
- 20:55Speaker 2: series,
- 20:56Speaker 1: some of the biggest blockbuster films ever.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but here's the most interesting thing. Knowing Chris Nolan
- 21:02Speaker 2: and his passion for film, right, there's actually gonna be
- 21:05Speaker 2: a traditional film screening, 35mm film screening, and Singapore, Shore Lido.
- 21:12Speaker 2: It's the only theater in Southeast Asia to do it
- 21:17Speaker 2: over at the Lumia Grand Hall.
- 21:19Speaker 1: That's insane. I mean, we've been to that hall before.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It's beautiful.
- 21:24Speaker 1: And I'm just looking at some of the stills from
- 21:26Speaker 1: the 35 mM version. It's something that you don't really
- 21:29Speaker 1: get to see anymore, you know. So
- 21:31Speaker 2: I guess
- 21:31Speaker 2: it's a way to get us to watch it twice,
- 21:33Speaker 2: one in IMAX and one in traditional 35 mM film format.
- 21:39Speaker 1: It's gonna be pretty epic. So you get to see
- 21:40Speaker 1: the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Um, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, so many people are gonna be
- 21:47Speaker 1: on it. It's a huge cast. And
- 21:48Speaker 2: if you're wondering, Shaw Lido actually has a 35 mM
- 21:53Speaker 2: projector from 1993.
- 21:56Speaker 1: But here's a random fun fact for you, OK. The
- 21:59Speaker 1: last screening of a 35mm film for Shaw Theaters was
- 22:03Speaker 1: more than 13 years ago,
- 22:05Speaker 2: which
- 22:05Speaker 2: makes me wonder what movie was it that used the
- 22:08Speaker 2: projector.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Let me see. Oh, I found it, um.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Hyde Park on Hudson was on the, on the 13th
- 22:16Speaker 1: of March 2013 at Lido. Do you know that? I
- 22:19Speaker 1: never watched that film, I think. Hyde Park on Hudson. Yeah,
- 22:22Speaker 1: that was the last 35mm film.
- 22:25Speaker 2: It stars Bill Murray Franklin Roosevelt.
- 22:27Speaker 1: OK, OK. Interesting. Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Anyway, we wanted to open up the phone lines 669-11987,
- 22:33Speaker 1: seeing how, right, we've not even laid eyes on a
- 22:36Speaker 1: roll of 35mm film for so long. Yeah, we got
- 22:40Speaker 1: a question for you.
- 22:41Speaker 2: What is the one thing of the past that you
- 22:44Speaker 2: miss in today's digital world?
- 22:47Speaker 1: What's the one thing that I miss? Well, OK, film
- 22:50Speaker 1: cameras and
- 22:51Speaker 1: You know, those Digi camps never went away. In fact, they,
- 22:53Speaker 1: they came back, they made a resurgence. What do I miss?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Can I,
- 22:57Speaker 2: can I give you one answer? Even though it's still
- 23:00Speaker 2: being sold but not as much anymore, I missing Blu-rays
- 23:04Speaker 2: or Blu-ray boxes,
- 23:06Speaker 1: DVDs,
- 23:07Speaker 2: DVDs or movies are my favorite series and all that
- 23:09Speaker 2: before Netflix became
- 23:10Speaker 2: a thing.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I think what I miss probably.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Um, the iPod from a long time ago or the Walkman, when,
- 23:17Speaker 1: when it wasn't, when music wasn't combined with your smartphone
- 23:20Speaker 1: just yet, because now I realize like, yeah, you know,
- 23:23Speaker 1: it's so convenient, you've got everything in your phone, right?
- 23:25Speaker 1: But I tend to, while I'm listening to music or
- 23:28Speaker 1: exploring a new album, I'm doing other things on my phone.
- 23:31Speaker 1: You know what I mean? So back then, maybe because
- 23:32Speaker 1: I was in school, I didn't really have like
- 23:34Speaker 1: An iPhone just yet. I just had the iPod Nano.
- 23:36Speaker 1: That was kind of cool actually. I miss
- 23:38Speaker 1: it.
- 23:38Speaker 2: So give us a call over at 669-11-987 or WhatsApp
- 23:42Speaker 2: us at 90050987. What's one thing of the past that
- 23:47Speaker 2: you miss in today's digital world?
- 23:50Speaker 1: Let us know in exchange, a $100 dining experience to Gipsy.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Their one Fullerton outlet beautifully overlooks the Marina Bay backdrop.
- 23:59Speaker 1: So give us a call now. Now, with the launch
- 24:02Speaker 1: and the premiere of The Odyssey in cinemas, in fact,
- 24:05Speaker 1: today I believe it opens to the public. Yes. Hope
- 24:07Speaker 1: that you get your tickets, go watch it over the weekend. It's, um,
- 24:10Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be quite an epic film. I'm,
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm hoping to watch it too. We wanted to ask
- 24:15Speaker 1: you this question because we realized they're gonna be screening
- 24:18Speaker 1: the 35mm version of it in theaters. Yes.
- 24:21Speaker 1: In Singapore Lido,
- 24:23Speaker 2: it's the only theater in Southeast Asia that will have
- 24:27Speaker 2: the 35 MM film screening.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and the last time they screened one was like
- 24:31Speaker 1: 13 years ago or something. So props to Shaw. Thank
- 24:34Speaker 1: you for doing this. I think we're looking forward to it,
- 24:36Speaker 1: but we wanted to ask you this question. What are
- 24:38Speaker 1: some things of the past? Anything vintage that you miss
- 24:42Speaker 1: and you wish you could have
- 24:43Speaker 1: it back?
- 24:44Speaker 2: Saying good morning to Faisal on WhatsApp over at 9005.
- 24:48Speaker 2: 0987. Hey Sonia and Joakim, the one thing I really
- 24:51Speaker 2: miss playing void deck football.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Oh, does that not happen anymore? Is it not allowed?
- 24:57Speaker 1: Very
- 24:57Speaker 2: rarely. And I, and I think our law enforcement officers
- 25:01Speaker 2: are extra stringent and strict when it comes to these
- 25:04Speaker 2: things now because one simple call about noise complaint, they'll
- 25:08Speaker 2: come down and check you straight
- 25:08Speaker 2: away.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So can I just check when you were in school, right,
- 25:11Speaker 1: you did play void deck, for sure, and nobody complained. Uh,
- 25:15Speaker 2: OK.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Not exactly void deck. I actually played at the Ang
- 25:19Speaker 2: Mo Kio Street Soccer court, the one that was opposite
- 25:22Speaker 2: 30 Secondary School, so it was a court built there, yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 2: and we're playing at like 2 to 3 p.m. in
- 25:28Speaker 2: the afternoon. There'll be this one uncle. We, we know
- 25:32Speaker 2: which uncle
- 25:32Speaker 1: which one always call the police, but why? It's in
- 25:34Speaker 1: a court,
- 25:35Speaker 2: right? Because you're noisy.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Is that, is that a basis for anything because it's daytime?
- 25:41Speaker 1: Is he trying to rest or is he unwell
- 25:43Speaker 2: 4 p.m. So you know, boys like to play football.
- 25:46Speaker 2: So if you thought pickleball was noisy, wait till you
- 25:51Speaker 2: heard us play football back then, maybe 20 years ago.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, could be, could be valid the uncle's feelings.
- 25:58Speaker 1: When we come back, we have Lily hanging on the
- 26:00Speaker 1: line and more of your messages to make sure that
- 26:03Speaker 1: you get those in. We've got time for your stories
- 26:05Speaker 1: and your opinions. What are some vintage things that you
- 26:08Speaker 1: missed that you sometimes wish, hey, I could have it
- 26:11Speaker 1: right now? Talking about what are some items of the past,
- 26:14Speaker 1: like vintage items that you missed, all inspired by um
- 26:17Speaker 1: the Odyssey being screened in.
- 26:19Speaker 1: 35 mm in Singapore.
- 26:22Speaker 2: We are the only theater in Southeast Asia the 35mm
- 26:26Speaker 2: film screening. Yeah, sure. Can I give you one thing
- 26:29Speaker 2: I missed? The orange Tencent coins. Orange, the pay phone
- 26:36Speaker 2: at the shop, the orange
- 26:36Speaker 2: ones.
- 26:37Speaker 1: So what did you, who did you call using that,
- 26:39Speaker 1: your mom?
- 26:39Speaker 2: My mom.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Or sometimes my teachers back in primary school go to
- 26:45Speaker 2: the phone and call their mother now to
- 26:46Speaker 1: like update her or what? Bring the worksheet,
- 26:49Speaker 2: that kind of thing, yeah.
- 26:50Speaker 1: You bluff, right? You say you never do your homework.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I mean you didn't do your homework, but you say
- 26:53Speaker 1: you left it at home. Yeah, I knew it. you
- 26:57Speaker 1: know me so well. Um, more messages coming through before
- 26:58Speaker 1: we get to Lily on the line.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Wanna
- 26:59Speaker 2: say hello to Oliver who says, hey, Sojo, Oliver from
- 27:02Speaker 2: HTX here. Hello from upstairs. Hello.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Uh, nostalgia for me is wearing the headphones and listening
- 27:09Speaker 2: to the CD players on the CD racks at HMV.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Oh, that you would have found Joakim there too. Um,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think back then too, like my friends and I
- 27:18Speaker 1: would make the trip down if there's a CD we really,
- 27:21Speaker 1: really wanted.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I was a
- 27:22Speaker 2: regular while discovering people like Jay-Z, Limp Biscuit, Corn, Eminem
- 27:26Speaker 2: for the very first time.
- 27:28Speaker 2: I Wanna say good morning to Chris. Morning, Sojo. I
- 27:31Speaker 2: especially miss the times where the checking of timings of
- 27:34Speaker 2: TV programs were available only in the half-time ads, magazines
- 27:38Speaker 2: and newspapers. The way I chased my mom to buy
- 27:41Speaker 2: the magazines and newspapers just so I could check, and
- 27:44Speaker 2: when the program starts, I will hold in my pee
- 27:46Speaker 2: till the ads came
- 27:47Speaker 2: on.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Wow. Oh, now I need to know what shows this
- 27:50Speaker 1: guy was watching. Maybe like Channel dramas or what. I'm like,
- 27:52Speaker 1: do you remember there was this show? I, I don't
- 27:54Speaker 1: know have such a core memory of it.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Um, there was a drama about uh Holland Village Nasi
- 28:00Speaker 1: Lemak a long time ago. Do you remember this? Was
- 28:02Speaker 1: it called Holland?
- 28:03Speaker 1: Oh, was it called Holland? I don't know. I only
- 28:05Speaker 1: remember because my, my mom followed it and I was like, Oh, OK,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I just watched as well, and I remember having a
- 28:11Speaker 1: distinct craving for Nasi Lemak for a very long time
- 28:14Speaker 1: because of that show. Did you find it? If
- 28:16Speaker 2: I'm not wrong, the Mandarin could be He. OK,
- 28:21Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't remember.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I
- 28:22Speaker 1: can't remember.
- 28:23Speaker 2: You're right. You're right.
- 28:24Speaker 1: It's about Nasi Lamma, is
- 28:25Speaker 2: it,
- 28:27Speaker 2: yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, Patricia and all that, yeah.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Oh, now I got to eat our cinema again. Thanks.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Lily is on the line. What about you? I miss
- 28:34Speaker 1: the typewriter. The
- 28:35Speaker 2: writer, wow.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure some vintage shops still sell it though.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Like my mom used to be a secretary back in
- 28:42Speaker 1: the day. Yes, because it was my aunt who taught
- 28:45Speaker 1: me how to type. So there is some, some, uh,
- 28:49Speaker 1: memories there. How different is it now using like an actual,
- 28:53Speaker 1: like a modern day keyboard? What, what is it that's different?
- 28:56Speaker 1: audience are still the same. It's just a few, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 1: when you type after one sentence, you have to pull
- 29:00Speaker 1: to the next line. Oh, actually, speaking of which, I
- 29:06Speaker 1: miss like the BlackBerry, you know, phones with buttons, because
- 29:09Speaker 1: now I don't think any phones have buttons anymore if
- 29:12Speaker 1: you ask me. Exactly, exactly.
- 29:14Speaker 2: On the topic of typewriters, I want to give a
- 29:16Speaker 2: shout out to local poet, the novel Encounter one. He
- 29:20Speaker 2: uses a typewriter whenever he shows up.
- 29:22Speaker 2: The event that we host or we are present for,
- 29:23Speaker 2: he will write a poem. Yeah. Watching him work is
- 29:26Speaker 2: like poetry in motion, no pun
- 29:28Speaker 2: intended.
- 29:28Speaker 1: It's, it's really cute. I'm so glad he managed to
- 29:31Speaker 1: preserve that, you know. Thank you so much, Lily, for
- 29:34Speaker 1: your call. You have a great day, OK? Thank you.
- 29:36Speaker 1: You too. Have a great day. Bye-bye. Sonia and Joakim here.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Thanks so much for joining us. So we're on the
- 29:41Speaker 1: topic of that's been inspired by the Odyssey, screening um
- 29:45Speaker 1: a version of it in 35 MM here with Shaw Lido.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It's the only one in Southeast Asia, if I'm not wrong, right?
- 29:51Speaker 2: So
- 29:51Speaker 2: in a way that's how they trap you to watch
- 29:53Speaker 2: it twice. You watch it in IMAX and you watch it.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I really
- 29:56Speaker 1: don't mind, to be honest. This is something like a
- 29:58Speaker 1: rare opportunity. So if you're
- 30:00Speaker 2: booking online, make sure you check out the Lumia Grand
- 30:03Speaker 2: Hall over at and see what times are the 35
- 30:07Speaker 2: m film screening for yourself.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Exactly. So we want to head back to our messages first.
- 30:12Speaker 1: We heard from some callers and texts earlier on.
- 30:15Speaker 1: So, let's go to messages and find out what they're saying.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Cheryl
- 30:18Speaker 2: says, hey, Sojo, I missed the pedal pop ice cream. Nowadays,
- 30:23Speaker 2: it just tastes different. Does it?
- 30:25Speaker 1: In what way?
- 30:27Speaker 1: Do you, do you, do you find that there's a difference,
- 30:30Speaker 2: Joe? It's been a
- 30:30Speaker 2: while since I had the rainbow flavored pedal
- 30:32Speaker 2: pop ice cream.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I haven't had it in a long time. Yeah, yeah,
- 30:35Speaker 1: so I don't know what's the difference.
- 30:36Speaker 2: One more coming in from your username is in Mandarin.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Can't really read the characters. Hey, Sojo, I missed the
- 30:42Speaker 2: scene where my grandparents would check the lottery on TV
- 30:46Speaker 2: where the screens were just pixels, and I missed the
- 30:48Speaker 2: times where we got no phones, so we will shout
- 30:50Speaker 2: out to our friends to ask them to come down
- 30:51Speaker 2: and play from level one if the friend sits at
- 30:54Speaker 2: the lower level or higher level.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Oh.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I mean, look, this brings back memories, right, for everyone. OK,
- 31:00Speaker 1: I think we got the last few messages coming up
- 31:02Speaker 1: just before we hit 9, so stand by for that. Uh,
- 31:04Speaker 1: reminiscing a bit because The Odyssey is going to be
- 31:07Speaker 1: screened in 35 mm, which is considered quite vintage, I
- 31:10Speaker 1: would say, something that we don't experience much nowadays. And
- 31:13Speaker 1: the last time it was screened that way, um, for
- 31:16Speaker 1: another movie was 13 years ago.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you could be in for a whole new experience
- 31:20Speaker 2: and you watch it, but I wanna ask you this question.
- 31:22Speaker 2: What is something of the past that you missed in
- 31:25Speaker 2: today's very
- 31:27Speaker 2: How would I say this? Advanced and modern world. Want
- 31:30Speaker 2: to say good morning to Triple CF on WhatsApp. Morning,
- 31:34Speaker 2: Sonia and Joakim. What I miss most about the non-digital
- 31:37Speaker 2: days is manually tuning into the radio and discovering songs
- 31:41Speaker 2: by chance.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Actually, I think my aunties, right, um, I'm not sure
- 31:47Speaker 1: about my parents. I think they use like internet radio now,
- 31:50Speaker 1: but my aunties might still have that old school, like the,
- 31:52Speaker 1: the literal radio where you can.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and a static for a while, then
- 31:58Speaker 2: you hear someone talking.
- 31:59Speaker 1: I think they still have it, so it's very cute.
- 32:01Speaker 2: One coming in from Perlin, and I think Sonia and I,
- 32:03Speaker 2: we both missed this. I really miss the MSN days.
- 32:08Speaker 2: We could chat for hours with friends or even our crushes.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Looking back now, where on earth did all these long
- 32:14Speaker 2: convose topics come from?
- 32:15Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure if we had a history of all
- 32:17Speaker 1: the conversations we did in those chat rooms, like we'll
- 32:20Speaker 1: Korean chat ourselves 100%. Yeah, like I, I don't want
- 32:23Speaker 1: to see how I flirted with my first boyfriend ever.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I really don't want to
- 32:27Speaker 2: revisit it. That was bad. No
- 32:28Speaker 1: thanks.
- 32:28Speaker 2: And Joanna says, morning guys. The thing I miss most
- 32:31Speaker 2: is the pager. Why? Back then there were no mobile
- 32:35Speaker 2: phones and the pager was the only way to stay connected.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Those are the very good old days. Actually,
- 32:40Speaker 1: don't
- 32:40Speaker 1: you think that in a way, right, um, due to
- 32:43Speaker 1: the fact that we're so easily contactable now, it also
- 32:46Speaker 1: has changed many things, um, including punctuality. My, my parents
- 32:50Speaker 1: told me like back then, their generation, they were a
- 32:53Speaker 1: lot more punctual. In fact, they will come one hour early, which.
- 32:56Speaker 1: explain why your dad always goes one hour early when
- 32:58Speaker 1: you meet him. Because back then they couldn't like text
- 33:01Speaker 1: each other and say like, oh, you know, if anything
- 33:03Speaker 1: were to change, they can't text.
- 33:05Speaker 2: You call the house phone, OK, we meet at City
- 33:07Speaker 2: Hall at 7 p.m. and it has to
- 33:08Speaker 1: be 7 p.m. at the same location. You can't make
- 33:11Speaker 1: changes or whatever, you know. So yeah, great theory there.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us and only one person can
- 33:17Speaker 1: walk away with this beautiful prize here today. Thanks
- 33:19Speaker 2: to Gypsy. Yeah, the one over at Fullerton. Congratulations to
- 33:23Speaker 2: Pearle who texted us earlier.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Kind of bringing back the millennial feels for Sonia and
- 33:28Speaker 2: I when she mentioned MSN.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so Perlin, we all, we've all been there. I think, um,
- 33:36Speaker 1: at the time when I was in poly as well,
- 33:38Speaker 1: like we would use like Facebook Messenger and like BBM
- 33:41Speaker 1: at the time.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Yeah, those are great memories, man.
- 33:44Speaker 2: MSN was something for me. I used to talk to
- 33:46Speaker 2: talk to all my crushes, right? And then as time progressed,
- 33:50Speaker 2: form a lobby to play Dota one.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Oh, really? So that became like uh the, the, the platform.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Like what is the equivalent now?
- 33:59Speaker 1: The equivalent now is what?
- 34:00Speaker 2: Discord,
- 34:01Speaker 2: Discord, right, OK, OK, OK.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Anyway, what you're walking away with is a wonderful experience
- 34:06Speaker 1: to Gypsy over at One Fullerton. Like we mentioned earlier,
- 34:09Speaker 1: they've got great happy hour treats, um, and also it's
- 34:12Speaker 1: a contemporary take on their Japanese cuisine. So really, really
- 34:16Speaker 1: traditional techniques with seasonal produce and very premium fresh seafood.
- 34:20Speaker 2: If you're
- 34:21Speaker 2: going there on a first date,
- 34:23Speaker 2: perfect place. Yeah,
- 34:24Speaker 1: yeah, we'd love for you to experience it.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Log on and follow them, Gypsy SG on Instagram. Unfortunate
- 34:30Speaker 1: food news here today, a place that I used to
- 34:32Speaker 1: go to as a
- 34:33Speaker 1: kid.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Do I sing it sadly? Sadly. Here we go. 123,
- 34:36Speaker 2: food news. Food
- 34:42Speaker 1: news. So it's sad news. Taking you to Suntec City
- 34:44Speaker 1: right now. I used to go to this Crystal Jade
- 34:46Speaker 1: outlet with my folks all the time and I also
- 34:49Speaker 1: remember that they have the Crystal Jade, the bakery version
- 34:52Speaker 1: right near it.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Um, they're closing from today onwards, 2026. They're closing the
- 34:58Speaker 1: one at Suntec
- 34:59Speaker 2: City. Suntec City holds a very special place in my
- 35:02Speaker 2: heart because it was the place of my first part-time work.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Tony Romos, which is, from
- 35:08Speaker 1: Singapore. Um, so they didn't give any reason why they're closing.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I mean, they still have many outlets around Singapore, like
- 35:14Speaker 1: about 16 outlets if I'm not wrong, after Suntec closes,
- 35:17Speaker 1: there will still be 16. So I think it just,
- 35:19Speaker 1: they just regularly review, um.
- 35:21Speaker 1: The operations and their outlets to see what they can
- 35:24Speaker 1: do or what they can adapt to in our conditions.
- 35:27Speaker 1: So that's the most that we know for now. Um,
- 35:29Speaker 1: they also closed their Hillion Mall outlet earlier in 2026.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Holland Village, if you remember, there was a Lamei and
- 35:36Speaker 1: Xiaolong Pao Crystal Jade also closed in June of 2025,
- 35:40Speaker 1: but Hong Kong kitchen outlet, uh, at One Holland Village
- 35:44Speaker 1: remains open. So maybe it's just a case of it
- 35:46Speaker 1: being too close by. They've got too many in one place, maybe.
- 35:50Speaker 1: But yeah, when Crystal Jade chains like that start closing,
- 35:53Speaker 1: I start to
- 35:54Speaker 2: worry something is wrong.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Start to worry.
- 35:55Speaker 2: The extra icing is one day Tin Tai Feng announces
- 35:58Speaker 2: they're closing somewhere.
- 36:00Speaker 1: That's when you know exactly. But hey, if you're able
- 36:03Speaker 1: to support your neighborhood favorite hawker or um food outlet today,
- 36:08Speaker 1: just do what
- 36:09Speaker 1: you can.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Now you got me craving Xiaolong.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Thanks. We gotta have it. Bud Mars for taking us
- 36:13Speaker 1: closer to 10 on Monday.
