- 0:00However, you one and welcome to our final edition of the Women's Basketball Coaches
- 0:04Show, presented by Wells Fargo Bank. I'm with June Orema in his office.
- 0:07Is Huskies get set for Biggie's tournament play. I know on Saturday after
- 0:12the win over Providence, you know you were very proud of the of the
- 0:15thought that the fact that despite all these injuries that you've had, it's not
- 0:19easy to run the table and conference play no matter what you have or don't
- 0:24have, and this for this group a massive accomplishment, and I know you're
- 0:27you're very proud of that. Yeah, for sure. I mean if you
- 0:31know, you think if we'd have had our whole compliment of players, you
- 0:35know, I think you would say, well, you know, of course,
- 0:39you know you're supposed to be able to do that. But the fact
- 0:44of the matter is at Connecticut, whether you have your compliment of players or
- 0:48whether you're just playing four four against five, you know, you're Yukon and
- 0:52you're supposed to, you know, you're supposed to figure out how when this
- 0:55thing every year, and I think the circumscis this year we're probably more challenging
- 1:02than at any year that we've been here so far when it comes to you
- 1:06know, what we had to deal with. So this one I think meant
- 1:12meant an awful lot. I know it meant a lot to our seniors,
- 1:15and I know it certainly means a lot to our coaching staff. Yeah,
- 1:19for sure, in a way that you went around doing it. It's no
- 1:23secret that Paige and Alia have carried this team lately. You've gotten some big
- 1:26contributions from Nika as well. But to see what Page and Aaliyah have continued
- 1:32to do, and hopefully, as you know, we get to Thursday and
- 1:36the awards start coming out, you would think one of them, if not
- 1:38both of them, will be Biggiest Player of the Year. There'll certainly be
- 1:41unanimous first team choices, you would think. Yeah, I mean, when
- 1:47you finish undefeated, you know in the regular season, somebodies on your team
- 1:55are going to are going to get rewarded with awards, whether it's you know,
- 2:00Nika and Page, Aliyah. You know, the kind of years that
- 2:08Aliyah and and and Paige have had are you know, all American type years.
- 2:15When you look at their numbers and you look at the you know,
- 2:17the contributions that they made to winning have we won two or three of those
- 2:23five games that we lost, there would probably be no a no brainer that
- 2:27both of them would make All Americans. But didn't work out that way.
- 2:30And but certainly, you know, within the conference, when you look at
- 2:35the numbers and you look at the impact and the way we dominated, you
- 2:39know, yeah, sometimes other guys stepped up and had have big games,
- 2:44but those two were the constants. You know, they were you know,
- 2:47they were the air for us every night, and you know they should be
- 2:52rewarded for for their great years. We've talked about Page in her defense and
- 2:58how she reached things is amazing. Over the last I think five or six
- 3:01games, Alia's had at least four steals, and maybe all but one of
- 3:07those games. She's been on a tear on the perimeter lately. Yeah,
- 3:10yeah, I think her aggressiveness picks up, you know, and it seems
- 3:16like they come exactly when we need it. You know, we need a
- 3:20we need a big play, and Alida makes a big play. She she
- 3:24certainly has the ability to do that. There's you know, there's an advantage
- 3:34that she has over other post players. You know, she may not be
- 3:38as big as some of the other ones, but she's quicker than them,
- 3:42and she's bigger and stronger than the other ones, so she single handlely can
- 3:50change a game with two or three d's at the right time. And the
- 3:54way she's rebounded, I mean those double figure rebound marks. You know,
- 4:01when I asked Paige, why don't you rebound more? She because I'm always
- 4:04in there rebound. It's just that Eleah steels them all for me, you
- 4:08know. So and KK gave you seven, and KK gave us seven,
- 4:12So she's getting a little bit of help, but she's doing most of the
- 4:15grunt work for sure. You know how much stronger is e Leah say?
- 4:18From freshman year, I imagine the weight room has been really kind of her,
- 4:21sure. I mean, when you have the kind of body to start
- 4:25with that you can do that, and you know you come here with you
- 4:30know, a certain amount of you know, physical mentality that that's how you
- 4:38like to play, then I think you probably attack you know, the weight
- 4:44room different than somebody who's afraid of it. You know, So the work
- 4:49in the weight room, to work on the court, you know, all
- 4:53these things have contributed to from freshman year being a contributor to this year being
- 5:01dominant and the fact that she's been the most durable one of everyone during this
- 5:06four year stretch. She's missed one game in her career and that was her
- 5:10refreshman year. Now. Granted, if the Depaull game wasn't postponed, she
- 5:15would have missed too because of the injury at Xavier when she ran into the
- 5:18chair. But her durability has been amazing. It sure has, you know,
- 5:21knock on wood, you know everything, everything's been. It's been really
- 5:29really good for us obviously that Aliah has been so consistently durable and we can
- 5:36count on her every day and every game. Hopefully you know that can continue.
- 5:47There is no way to prevent or predict those things, so you just
- 5:55keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best. More with you know,
- 5:58in just a moment. It is the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show, presented
- 6:00by Wells Fargo here on the Yukon Sports Network from Larfield
