Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Prinstal play guitar and learn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Yeah, we're playing with my loss on this upcoming in February,
- 0:06Speaker 2: opening up the show.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's kin be awesome. We're very keen. Yeah, I'm Nathaniel.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I see him learn.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're very very key to kick off this
- 0:15Speaker 3: tour next month. We'll be ablest at the Silesis for
- 0:18Speaker 3: a very very long time. So yeah, looking forward to
- 0:22Speaker 3: seeing what happens on this next run, hopefully win over
- 0:25Speaker 3: some new people.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Awesome, thanks for joining us today. Pleasure to speak with you,
- 0:30Speaker 1: my pleasure, Thanks for having me. I was as you say.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Learn will soon be touring around Australia as supports to
- 0:36Speaker 4: Solosis and Angel Maker, starting on February eleventh in Perth,
- 0:40Speaker 4: going through Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, finishing in Brisbane on February sixteenth.
- 0:44Speaker 4: So not too far up, guys, How are you feeling?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, not so far away at all. Cracking up,
- 0:50Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I am particularly nervous, I think because Solosis are one
- 0:55Speaker 2: of those bands that are kind of found where I
- 0:58Speaker 2: was for any of the bugs are playing likes particularly
- 1:02Speaker 2: I remember this video he had up years ago teaching
- 1:06Speaker 2: how to sweep and I was like going out the
- 1:09Speaker 2: focus are at the time, So it's pretty extic for
- 1:12Speaker 2: me to be playing shows me that guy. So I'm
- 1:14Speaker 2: super keen just in the protest of popping the set together,
- 1:18Speaker 2: make sure all both nights and tight, and yeah, very
- 1:23Speaker 2: very excited.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It came up on the same music so we're yeah,
- 1:28Speaker 1: very excited.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I remember hearing like Imperial back in the day and
- 1:30Speaker 3: just being like, how do we even play this and
- 1:34Speaker 3: like trying to watch Chris figure it out for like
- 1:36Speaker 3: weeks and months on end.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So it'd be really cool to check it out.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And they're a very different band to what we are,
- 1:44Speaker 3: so it'll be interesting to see how the punters react
- 1:46Speaker 3: to a band like us sort of opening up the
- 1:50Speaker 3: night every night, you know, met berating them to do
- 1:53Speaker 3: nefarious acts and the venues.
- 1:59Speaker 4: These both into the slosis have been a big part
- 2:02Speaker 4: of your musical lives. So how do you approach it
- 2:04Speaker 4: to all audition in terms of what do you expect
- 2:06Speaker 4: an attitude like, it's sort of it's not as if
- 2:08Speaker 4: you're just going out and playing with the pub.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Band, you know, No, Yeah, I me and the guys
- 2:15Speaker 5: kind of have like this long running joke between us
- 2:17Speaker 5: that whenever we do these bigger shows and just have
- 2:21Speaker 5: these opportunities, we want to help out as much as possible,
- 2:24Speaker 5: well simultaneously staying the hell out of the way. Really, Like,
- 2:28Speaker 5: you know, we want to be the guys on the
- 2:30Speaker 5: tour that you know, great to have around and which
- 2:33Speaker 5: you know, we're always down to help out, but simultaneously
- 2:36Speaker 5: let everybody do their own thing and no, just make
- 2:39Speaker 5: the best impression we can possible essentially, Like I mean musically,
- 2:44Speaker 5: like like any other band, I suppose we go in
- 2:47Speaker 5: and we want to be super tight. You know, we
- 2:51Speaker 5: are as you know musicians and Nevan are really but
- 2:56Speaker 5: I suppose we're perfectionists. Like we we record a lot
- 2:59Speaker 5: of our stuff and listen, I can pick out the
- 3:00Speaker 5: stuff that you know was a bit wobbly at one
- 3:03Speaker 5: show and then just kind of drill it. So yeah,
- 3:06Speaker 5: we just want to go in essentially be the best
- 3:09Speaker 5: versions of ourselves and you know, have a great time
- 3:12Speaker 5: while we're doing it.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I would definitely say we're pretty razor sharp on
- 3:16Speaker 3: the perfectionism when it comes to this sort of thing. Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 3: I think we just try and like make sure that
- 3:22Speaker 3: everyone on the tour back, are just just feeling good
- 3:24Speaker 3: and having a good time.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I think, out of anyone, no one.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Likes the person that's like a bit of a punish
- 3:30Speaker 3: on the tour, whether it just be because you know,
- 3:33Speaker 3: they're filling it around like a bad smell, or if
- 3:35Speaker 3: they're just you know, a bit miserable to be around.
- 3:38Speaker 3: And you know, touring can be tiring and after're traveling
- 3:42Speaker 3: you know, a long way, some longer than others, all
- 3:44Speaker 3: the way from England, and you don't want to be
- 3:47Speaker 3: the person that's bring everyone down.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Then you know, you'd all try to have a good
- 3:50Speaker 1: time and have the best experience possible.
- 3:53Speaker 3: The boys like you know, every single opportunity that we
- 3:55Speaker 3: possibly have, we we're trying to be as technically proficient
- 3:58Speaker 3: as we possibly can. So you know, every time there
- 4:01Speaker 3: is anything that is recorded, we're all laboriously looking through
- 4:05Speaker 3: all of the audio stems and picking it out with
- 4:09Speaker 3: one another. And you know, even is to go as
- 4:12Speaker 3: so far as like talking about the wording of how
- 4:14Speaker 3: how things are presented when we do a live set
- 4:16Speaker 3: as well, you know the idea of afore mentioned you know,
- 4:20Speaker 3: mentioning people doing nefarious action in side of the venue.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Sometimes gets me.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Into some trouble, But I think it really depends on
- 4:29Speaker 3: the crowd. But yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing
- 4:32Speaker 3: what we could get away with on a on a
- 4:35Speaker 3: tool like this with some more traditional metal fans.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It's gonna be great.
- 4:40Speaker 5: I'm so key and it's going to be so sick,
- 4:42Speaker 5: and I having opportunity to like broad in the audience
- 4:45Speaker 5: is always so good. So like, I'm yeah, super thankful
- 4:48Speaker 5: to AJ for you know, pushing it, pushing us and
- 4:51Speaker 5: believing in us and giving us the opportunity and obviously
- 4:54Speaker 5: poking agent too Jaden, so putting in hard work.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So yeah, we're super.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Grateful for the opportunity and we just, yeah, overall want
- 5:01Speaker 5: to be the best we can be. Really like, we
- 5:03Speaker 5: just want to go in and smash it and make
- 5:05Speaker 5: friends and have a good time.
- 5:07Speaker 4: Now, you mentioned a setlist before, guys like, well, when
- 5:10Speaker 4: you play with the band, and like you said that,
- 5:12Speaker 4: musically it's a different to them. So when when you're
- 5:14Speaker 4: doing any setlists up, do you select songs that you
- 5:17Speaker 4: think their crowd will get into more of you? Also,
- 5:20Speaker 4: do you sort of more play songs that represent you
- 5:23Speaker 4: more as a band.
- 5:24Speaker 5: I guess yes, definitely something we take into consideration pretty heavily.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Like we came up with Die Art tour earlier at
- 5:33Speaker 5: the tail end of last year, and you know, going
- 5:36Speaker 5: to a tour like that, we will really think about
- 5:39Speaker 5: you know, their crowd being like you know, very death
- 5:42Speaker 5: or heavy, whereas this tour, like you know, it's pretty
- 5:45Speaker 5: much straight metal, which is so sick, like really thrashy.
- 5:49Speaker 5: So we you know, we we try to like we
- 5:54Speaker 5: have like we try to show as much of ourselves
- 5:57Speaker 5: as we can, like within reason, while similtaneously catering to
- 6:01Speaker 5: the crowd that we're playing for.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Like, you know, we're not going to go in and.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Play you five of the lightest songs we've got, that's
- 6:07Speaker 5: for sure. So yeah, it's gonna be it's gonna be sick,
- 6:10Speaker 5: Like we're definitely going to cater the set to to
- 6:13Speaker 5: you know, the shows that we're playing, and I mean
- 6:17Speaker 5: we're talking about playing some new stuff too, so.
- 6:18Speaker 1: That'll be that'll be so sick.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just been described as captivating and not to
- 6:24Speaker 4: be missed, not to be missed when it comes to
- 6:27Speaker 4: playing live. So tell us about a typical learn live show, Like,
- 6:30Speaker 4: what's so special about it?
- 6:33Speaker 1: What do you reckon the same. Uh, Well, Chris tends
- 6:36Speaker 1: to really go very very I would say, balls to
- 6:39Speaker 1: the wall.
- 6:39Speaker 3: With the production side of things, we're very we all
- 6:43Speaker 3: practice very very strictly, like I think, you know, on
- 6:49Speaker 3: the lead up to a tour, I'll probably practice four
- 6:52Speaker 3: times a week for about two months straight running a set,
- 6:56Speaker 3: whether it be that getting ourselves conditioned for it.
- 6:58Speaker 1: So in terms of the actual musicianship, I think we're
- 7:01Speaker 1: very very very.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Like I would say, which with the musicianship with like
- 7:07Speaker 3: quite a level of reverence, I would probably say. And
- 7:10Speaker 3: then in terms of the actual life production itself, we
- 7:14Speaker 3: try and, like what we're talking about with catering a
- 7:17Speaker 3: set to a certain crowd, we try and put the
- 7:20Speaker 3: energy that you know, we want the crowd to give
- 7:21Speaker 3: back to us. So, you know, particularly with this sort
- 7:25Speaker 3: of thing, you know, I would say it's going to
- 7:26Speaker 3: be quite a high energy set, and I like to
- 7:29Speaker 3: sort of not give the audience room to breathe in
- 7:34Speaker 3: terms of there's no dip in the at all, don't
- 7:36Speaker 3: give them a second to even think about, oh, this
- 7:39Speaker 3: band's a little different. You just want to keep smacking
- 7:41Speaker 3: them with something different and hit them with the left
- 7:43Speaker 3: and a right hook, so you know, the whole time,
- 7:45Speaker 3: it's just constant energy and constant movement. Ultimately, for us,
- 7:50Speaker 3: we walk away from sets that kind of leave us
- 7:53Speaker 3: on our toes, but also leave us entertain and we
- 7:55Speaker 3: want to have everyone walk out of that venue talking
- 7:59Speaker 3: about us and knowing that they had a good time
- 8:01Speaker 3: and they went at the bar getting a drink and
- 8:03Speaker 3: you know, not listening to us, you know, and they're
- 8:05Speaker 3: waiting for silences to come on. We want to make
- 8:07Speaker 3: sure that you know, they run from the bar to
- 8:10Speaker 3: go and watch us with a smile on their face.
- 8:13Speaker 3: So that for me, how I got Yeah, absolutely, always
- 8:17Speaker 3: with the beer in hand or you know whatever you
- 8:20Speaker 3: might be into.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're captivating thing is a big thing because, like,
- 8:24Speaker 5: especially going into it like this, we are the opener,
- 8:27Speaker 5: like we we want to be captivating, and you know,
- 8:29Speaker 5: it's nice that we've been described that way because yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 5: it's what we're aim for. We want to grab people
- 8:35Speaker 5: and hold them with us, like, you know, we want
- 8:37Speaker 5: to walk away and know that you know, whilst we're playing,
- 8:42Speaker 5: you know, people watching, you know, and we we really
- 8:45Speaker 5: pushed to try and hold hold the crowd when we're there,
- 8:48Speaker 5: So it's yeah, that's some realiant, lovely words.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Yeah, some of my favorite artists are people that, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 3: I didn't know who the hell they were before I
- 8:58Speaker 3: saw them. I was at a show just see someone
- 9:00Speaker 3: else and and I But for the same reason, I
- 9:05Speaker 3: revel in the challenge of winning over a crowd, like,
- 9:07Speaker 3: you know, whether it be a traditional medal or a
- 9:09Speaker 3: thrash middle crowd. I want the dude the shorter leg
- 9:12Speaker 3: pair and the cargo shorts and the you know, the
- 9:15Speaker 3: Metallica T shirt. Who's going to was probably traditionally going
- 9:18Speaker 3: to cross his arms to the entirety of our set
- 9:21Speaker 3: to be one over in the second song and they.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Go smiling his ass off and having a great time.
- 9:27Speaker 3: For me, you know, I've some of my favorite artists
- 9:31Speaker 3: are people that I did not know who the hell they.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Were before I saw them life for the first time.
- 9:37Speaker 3: And I think, you know that that can be a
- 9:41Speaker 3: very special experience for someone as a punter and as
- 9:43Speaker 3: a listeners, the same as it is for me. So
- 9:46Speaker 3: I revel in that challenge and I really look forward
- 9:49Speaker 3: to winning over some new people in this run.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Oh God, so just say someone's coming to the show
- 9:55Speaker 4: and they're there to see Solosis an angel maker, and
- 9:57Speaker 4: they've got no idea who Lunar give. It's three of
- 10:00Speaker 4: your songs that they can listen to before they come.
- 10:02Speaker 5: You get to know the band better, go on, Chris, Okay,
- 10:07Speaker 5: So I mean I reckon for this tour. There there's
- 10:10Speaker 5: a single from our last release called Progeny, which would
- 10:13Speaker 5: be a great one. It's pretty metal, it's pretty just
- 10:18Speaker 5: a slam of the whole way through. Really, there's not
- 10:20Speaker 5: really much hold up with that one. There's another one
- 10:23Speaker 5: from our first release called Ghost, which was actually our
- 10:25Speaker 5: first single, really our heaviest track, super low tunes, just
- 10:31Speaker 5: angry song and maybe for something lighter or a bit
- 10:36Speaker 5: more proggy, I suppose to less fans that be down
- 10:39Speaker 5: with the techie stuff. Yeah, maybe Winter Sun. It's there's
- 10:44Speaker 5: some techi stuff in there, and there's also some lighter
- 10:47Speaker 5: stuff as well, so introduces kind of like the other
- 10:50Speaker 5: kind of airy, atmospheric side of the band.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Cool.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Now, you've released the most recently EP, that Change around
- 10:56Speaker 4: Us and The Change and you're back in November twenty
- 10:58Speaker 4: twenty three. So firstly, I was a response to was
- 11:01Speaker 4: it what do you hope?
- 11:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, got so, yes, Yeah, absolutely. I think we
- 11:09Speaker 3: spent so much time working on that and we had
- 11:11Speaker 3: our heads downd that it got to a point where
- 11:14Speaker 3: we were almost kind of like just itching to get
- 11:17Speaker 3: it out at the end because there was a lot
- 11:19Speaker 3: of back and forth with Graham from Resist before that
- 11:23Speaker 3: came out. So started to the people that were waiting
- 11:25Speaker 3: for a long time. The next one is going to
- 11:26Speaker 3: be a lot sooner, I promise, But yeah, I think
- 11:31Speaker 3: it blew our expectations out of the water. We just
- 11:33Speaker 3: spent pretty much the entirety of last year touring off
- 11:36Speaker 3: the back of that and to get the responses and
- 11:39Speaker 3: just to see new faces pretty much every single time
- 11:44Speaker 3: we played, and most of them had you know, we're
- 11:47Speaker 3: not on board with us before that release. So it's
- 11:51Speaker 3: really I think the last release had a little bit
- 11:54Speaker 3: of something for everybody, and I think it's really done
- 11:59Speaker 3: some really great things for us, and I think, you know,
- 12:02Speaker 3: there's a lot to be said about you know, when
- 12:05Speaker 3: you release something, you have a lot of fun making it,
- 12:07Speaker 3: and then you genuinely believe in the songs and you
- 12:10Speaker 3: want to listen to them yourself, and you know, you
- 12:12Speaker 3: spend a lot of time going I'm going to listen
- 12:14Speaker 3: to my own music again, which you know we've probably seen,
- 12:17Speaker 3: you know, in any.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Other sense narcissistic, but like as.
- 12:21Speaker 3: A music lover, when you really love the music, it
- 12:25Speaker 3: kind of it can really speak for itself, and I
- 12:27Speaker 3: think people really latch onto it when you kind of
- 12:32Speaker 3: believe in the music that you've made. Yeah, and it's
- 12:36Speaker 3: been really really awesome to connect to more and more
- 12:38Speaker 3: people for the new songs and see more and more
- 12:41Speaker 3: people will come to shows and connect with us and
- 12:43Speaker 3: have a great time with us, and it just makes
- 12:45Speaker 3: the whole atmosphere of what is a learned show or
- 12:48Speaker 3: us supporting a show way better. And the energy and
- 12:53Speaker 3: the atmosphere at the shows we have played, particularly in
- 12:56Speaker 3: twenty twenty four were pretty electric. So I'm looking forward
- 12:59Speaker 3: to seeing what this the year brings and what the
- 13:00Speaker 3: silesis tool brings.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Yeah, that was kind of the main takeaway for me too.
- 13:05Speaker 5: I suppose I write most of the music and stuff,
- 13:08Speaker 5: so it kind of sits on my high drive for
- 13:11Speaker 5: quite a while before it sees the light a day.
- 13:12Speaker 5: So the it does, it wears often. You for sure,
- 13:17Speaker 5: when you're when you're you know you're writing the music
- 13:19Speaker 5: and you're listening to it and you're working on us
- 13:20Speaker 5: so much, so have it come out and have people
- 13:24Speaker 5: turn up and like, we've played the biggest headliners we've
- 13:27Speaker 5: ever played last year and sold out a bunch of venues,
- 13:30Speaker 5: which was like crazy, like to have that kind of
- 13:34Speaker 5: experience off the back of a It was an EP,
- 13:37Speaker 5: but quite a long one, so yeah, amazing, and just
- 13:42Speaker 5: seeing new faces at shows and people supporting us and
- 13:45Speaker 5: playing merch was I mean, what more can you ask for?
- 13:48Speaker 5: It was? It was awesome.
- 13:49Speaker 1: So I'm really looking forward to the new stuff as well.
- 13:53Speaker 5: It's my opinion, a step up and I'm really really
- 13:57Speaker 5: keen to get going and playing more new stuff and
- 14:02Speaker 5: see what happens because so far, like it's just crazy,
- 14:05Speaker 5: like just super stoked.
- 14:08Speaker 4: No, you mentioned new stuff a couple of times, So
- 14:10Speaker 4: is there a new album or EP in the works.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah there is, so I reckon I'm about spoil
- 14:18Speaker 5: anything but that I don't whereabouts three quarters the way
- 14:21Speaker 5: through writing an album, so I think the time is
- 14:25Speaker 5: right for us to put out the full length. So
- 14:28Speaker 5: I'm really excited. It's daunting for any band. I suppose
- 14:32Speaker 5: the debut full length, but also, I really really sick
- 14:38Speaker 5: challenge for us to meet head on and be able
- 14:40Speaker 5: to have a body of work that really shows everyone
- 14:44Speaker 5: who we are and so far where else. Really stoked
- 14:47Speaker 5: to hear it's going. It all feels like a step
- 14:49Speaker 5: up and a step in the right direction. So the
- 14:53Speaker 5: first chance we get to kind of like push that
- 14:55Speaker 5: stuff out in the life setting, you'll be hearing it.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Guys. Now, Oh, I'll let you go with Sudden a
- 15:02Speaker 4: new segment called photo Bomb, where basically I troll through
- 15:05Speaker 4: your social media before we chat and to tell me
- 15:11Speaker 4: what's something then look.
- 15:12Speaker 3: At that's that's one of my best mates in the
- 15:18Speaker 3: whole world. His name is Nathan Juke. He sings in
- 15:20Speaker 3: a band called Bitter Kind. He's probably like observing.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Looking at les. He's like nice legs man.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Probably thinking about picking me up and throwing me because
- 15:31Speaker 3: he thinks it's going to be funny. Or he's also
- 15:34Speaker 3: probably looking at our livey and analyzing it like a
- 15:36Speaker 3: teen nine thousand terminator, trying to figure out how he
- 15:39Speaker 3: can do that.
- 15:40Speaker 1: He's a very hard working man, so he's either thinking
- 15:43Speaker 1: of a way.
- 15:43Speaker 3: To thwart me, or he's you know, thinking about you know,
- 15:48Speaker 3: he's watching and learning.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Bless him.
- 15:52Speaker 4: I love these guys in the background, so you like
- 15:54Speaker 4: they're screaming full pelt. They're loving it.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yeah, always good to see.
- 16:01Speaker 3: If I mentioned spirit the shows, yeah, I love it
- 16:04Speaker 3: so sick.
- 16:05Speaker 4: But in the next one I've got is what words
- 16:08Speaker 4: of encouragement.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Are you given here? Fastinize clearly.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Something along those lines from aforementioned the various activities. I
- 16:21Speaker 3: believe this is probably something to do with me saying
- 16:24Speaker 3: some sort of the Lord of the Rings related.
- 16:26Speaker 5: It's telling us to have a really nice day.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Am a really good day, enjoy your night, something to
- 16:34Speaker 3: have a really really good day
- 16:36Speaker 1: And buy the rest of the tickets for the miss
- 16:40Speaker 1: out
