Latest / The Recess Bell / FILM REAL | What Movie Would You Want To Watch In The Theater?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, everybody, My name is Justin Greenber, joining me
- 0:02Speaker 1: again my buddy Jonathan for another edition of Film Reel
- 0:06Speaker 1: right here on the Recess Bell networking. Last time we
- 0:10Speaker 1: talked a bunch of nonsense about signs and Independence Day.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Today we got a few topics that I want to cover,
- 0:16Speaker 1: but before we get to those, I want to talk
- 0:18Speaker 1: to Jonathan about something that's very important to me when
- 0:22Speaker 1: it comes to watching movies, and that is what you
- 0:25Speaker 1: eat while watching a movie. Now, we both go to
- 0:29Speaker 1: the theaters, so I'm going to assume you get food
- 0:33Speaker 1: at the theater. Is that correct?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Sometimes not a lot, but I mean, you can never
- 0:39Speaker 2: go wrong with popcorn, right.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Fresh movie theater popcorn. It's fantastic butter drizzled all over.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Oh you get the butter. I don't do the butter.
- 0:47Speaker 1: What I'm a healthy guy.
- 0:48Speaker 2: You don't do the butter?
- 0:49Speaker 1: No, I don't.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Why do you even get the popcorn then?
- 0:51Speaker 1: Because it's if it's mid right, you don't need butter.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's sort of like, okay, bacon, egg and cheese. You
- 0:58Speaker 1: get bacon, egg and cheese, right or your sausage guy?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Either one?
- 1:01Speaker 1: Do you get salt pepper ketchup? On it, I do
- 1:04Speaker 1: not exactly. You don't need it. If it's made correctly,
- 1:06Speaker 1: you don't need that extra stuff. And I think the
- 1:08Speaker 1: same thing applies with popcorns. The popcorn is made fresh
- 1:11Speaker 1: and hot, and it's got the right amount of salt
- 1:13Speaker 1: on it. The butter's not needed.
- 1:14Speaker 2: You got to have the salt. Then, Yeah, if you're
- 1:16Speaker 2: not going to do the butter, do.
- 1:18Speaker 1: You do any other candies.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Or yeah, so I'm a big candy guy. Actually Skittles
- 1:25Speaker 2: sour Patch kids, you.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Order Skittles at the movie theater or you sneak the
- 1:30Speaker 1: stuff in.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I mean I used to bring stuff in all the time.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I really can't. I can't tell you the last time
- 1:34Speaker 2: I actually had candy at the movie theater because I.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Worked at a theater for quite a time. I just
- 1:41Speaker 1: want to say this before you continue. It's not illegal
- 1:44Speaker 1: to bring food in.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I think you told me that.
- 1:47Speaker 1: We're told we cannot legally stop somebody. We can, you know,
- 1:51Speaker 1: advise them not to Now, if they're bringing in a
- 1:54Speaker 1: whole pizza pie, we would have to stop them. But
- 1:56Speaker 1: if somebody just walked in and is holding M and
- 1:58Speaker 1: m's and walks in, we can't legally stop them from
- 2:01Speaker 1: bringing that in. But go ahead.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You worked at the one in Rockville Center, yes, yes,
- 2:06Speaker 2: But in the one in Limbrook you can bring whatever
- 2:10Speaker 2: you want in, right. I've seen people bringing coldstone and
- 2:14Speaker 2: they're just sitting there eat ice cream, which I mean
- 2:16Speaker 2: they serve everything there. You can get booze. Now you
- 2:18Speaker 2: can get food. They have meals.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that is an interesting change in the movie Landscape
- 2:25Speaker 1: is the introduction of full course meals, because I don't
- 2:29Speaker 1: ever remember that as a kid, it was just popcorn
- 2:32Speaker 1: and candy. But now you could get pizza and chicken
- 2:35Speaker 1: and and like you mentioned alcohol, which I haven't really done,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and I don't know if I'm a fan of it,
- 2:43Speaker 1: because people are already annoying at movie theaters, and then
- 2:47Speaker 1: if you add alcohol, I mean, we're in a bowling
- 2:49Speaker 1: league together. We see the effects of alcohol every single
- 2:52Speaker 1: week pretty much.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So when I'm trying to watch a movie, the last
- 2:56Speaker 1: thing I want is a rowdy, ruckous crowd the on
- 3:00Speaker 1: the movie. If it's a horror movie shorre, you know,
- 3:02Speaker 1: maybe be a little loud, but if it's you know,
- 3:04Speaker 1: a quieter film, you don't want the loud, obnoxious sort
- 3:07Speaker 1: of people so I've never done the movie theater booze
- 3:11Speaker 1: have you.
- 3:12Speaker 2: No, Jackie, you'll have like a glass of wine like
- 3:15Speaker 2: she usually brings her own wine. Yeah, but yeah. I
- 3:18Speaker 2: also don't understand people that talk through movies.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I don't understand it either. And it's not just kids.
- 3:26Speaker 1: That's the That's the one thing that really throws me
- 3:29Speaker 1: for a loop because you would think that somebody in
- 3:32Speaker 1: their fifties and sixties would understand to know your role
- 3:37Speaker 1: and shut your mouth. And the biggest offender that I
- 3:40Speaker 1: see is the elderly seventy year old eight year old.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Women are the absolute worst when it comes to serving
- 3:47Speaker 1: at a movie theater. When I work there, non stop
- 3:50Speaker 1: complaining it's too loud, it's too low, it's too cold,
- 3:54Speaker 1: it's too hot, the air is too dry. It's like,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I can't help you. I don't have a humidifier, gladys,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I can't help you right here. But they constantly talk.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And the biggest pet peeve I have with talking is
- 4:08Speaker 1: if you're going to do it, at least do it
- 4:09Speaker 1: at a whisper. And the other thing is they'll ask
- 4:13Speaker 1: questions when clearly the person they're seeing the movie with
- 4:17Speaker 1: has also not seen the movie, so they'll be like,
- 4:20Speaker 1: is he part of the government. It's like, I don't listen.
- 4:24Speaker 1: He doesn't know either, because we just were introduced to
- 4:27Speaker 1: this character. So just let it breathe and eventually we'll
- 4:31Speaker 1: get there.
- 4:31Speaker 2: And the problem is they can't whisper because they can't hear,
- 4:33Speaker 2: so they might think they're whispering, but they're yelling.
- 4:35Speaker 1: They're just screaming.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We were at a movie last year and Jackie actually
- 4:41Speaker 2: told these kids they were teenagers. There was I knew
- 4:43Speaker 2: there was a problem because there was like two people,
- 4:45Speaker 2: two girls, sitting in the same seat, like on top
- 4:47Speaker 2: of each other. Yeah, and they did not stop talking
- 4:50Speaker 2: and me, I'll just kind of grin and Barrett, but
- 4:53Speaker 2: Jackie was like, will you be quiet? You have talked
- 4:55Speaker 2: the entire time and the girls were like, oh my god,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and like they didn't say another word. It was Yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 2: it was bad. And then we just saw Baby Girl
- 5:05Speaker 2: last on Wednesday, and these two people came in late
- 5:09Speaker 2: and then they started talking and like you said, too,
- 5:11Speaker 2: it's not even a movie that you need to ask
- 5:14Speaker 2: any questions about, Like it wasn't anything that you didn't
- 5:17Speaker 2: know what was going on or like yeah, so They're
- 5:20Speaker 2: just talking and I'm like, oh, here we go again,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and then luckily they stop. But yeah, it's just like
- 5:26Speaker 2: you said. I don't like I might say one or
- 5:28Speaker 2: two things to Jackie during a movie about somebody in
- 5:30Speaker 2: the movie, or if I like think something's gonna happen,
- 5:34Speaker 2: I'll be like this that guy's in it or whatever.
- 5:36Speaker 2: But I say very low and that's it. We don't
- 5:38Speaker 2: have full on conversations. I mean, it's just very rude
- 5:42Speaker 2: and very disrespectful. Like I don't get it.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I've got into several fights. I was threatened to get
- 5:48Speaker 1: stabbed Jesus while while on a date we were watching
- 5:52Speaker 1: the screen movie I. I really don't take crap not
- 5:57Speaker 1: I am not a tough guy. I'm not physical intimidating
- 6:00Speaker 1: at all. But when I'm in a public setting and
- 6:03Speaker 1: I feel like I'm not going to actually get attacked,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I will stand up for my rights. I got into
- 6:08Speaker 1: a fight at McDonald's a few weeks ago because some
- 6:11Speaker 1: kids threw a piece of paper at me and I
- 6:14Speaker 1: called them out on it. And there was like fifteen
- 6:16Speaker 1: high school kids and I was just staring them down
- 6:18Speaker 1: because I'm like, what are they going to do? They
- 6:19Speaker 1: are going to attack me, and they just back down.
- 6:22Speaker 1: They did nothing. They had the manager come over to
- 6:24Speaker 1: them and kick them all out, and they said nothing.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I was expecting them to be like, you'll meet me outside,
- 6:29Speaker 1: But I guess kids these days are bitches and they
- 6:31Speaker 1: don't want to actually attack. They just they're all bark,
- 6:35Speaker 1: no bite. But yeah, it's a big issue is the talking.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And I've also noticed cell phone usage, and it's not
- 6:42Speaker 1: talking on the cell phone, it's the texting on the
- 6:44Speaker 1: cell phone. And I'm big into visuals when it comes
- 6:47Speaker 1: to movies. I love the way certain movies look. And
- 6:50Speaker 1: if you have a beaming light right in front of me,
- 6:56Speaker 1: it is seriously distracting. If you have to look at
- 6:59Speaker 1: your phone. At the very least, put the brightness all
- 7:02Speaker 1: the way to the minimum and cover it with your hand,
- 7:05Speaker 1: or put it, you know, your shirt over it, do something.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Don't hold it up. Yeah, you know, like you're he
- 7:11Speaker 1: man holding up his sword saying I have the power.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So everyone in the theater has to see your stupid text.
- 7:17Speaker 1: And it's not even text. Half the time they'll be
- 7:19Speaker 1: on socialde I.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Was just about to say, these kids doing snapchats, like
- 7:22Speaker 2: taking pictures of themselves while you're in a movie like
- 7:24Speaker 2: Who Cares.
- 7:25Speaker 1: But it's also I don't even want to say it's kids,
- 7:27Speaker 1: because it's also not kids. It is kids. Yeah, but
- 7:30Speaker 1: I've also seen older people. I go to a lot
- 7:32Speaker 1: of showtimes that there's special needs groups that are there,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and the handlers are the ones that are causing the scenes.
- 7:40Speaker 1: They're the ones that are on their phones. They're the
- 7:42Speaker 1: ones that aren't shutting up. And yeah, that's a huge
- 7:46Speaker 1: pet peeve of mine. There are theaters in the city.
- 7:49Speaker 1: There's a place called Nighthawk Cinema which is over in Brooklyn,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and I believe they have one in Queen's that is
- 7:56Speaker 1: very strict when it comes to cell phone usage. You
- 7:58Speaker 1: will be kicked out of the theater if you even
- 8:00Speaker 1: look at the cell phone. You know, they're more of
- 8:03Speaker 1: a hipster sort of movie theater, but I'm all for that.
- 8:07Speaker 1: There should be laws when it comes to the movie theater.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And another thing is with the food. And I have
- 8:14Speaker 1: talked about this on the film Reel before, but when
- 8:16Speaker 1: it comes to food, I feel like you need to
- 8:20Speaker 1: chew your food at a sensible volume and figure out
- 8:24Speaker 1: the right time to choose.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Said food or open the package, or open the package,
- 8:28Speaker 2: do it before the movie starts, or when there's a
- 8:31Speaker 2: loud action sequence happening.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Now, when there's a dramatic scene where Billy is dying
- 8:36Speaker 1: of AIDS and there's no sound except tears happening, and
- 8:41Speaker 1: then you just hear.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and the a Twizzler's bag. Yeah, real, Yeah, it's
- 8:47Speaker 2: just I just don't get people like you've been going
- 8:49Speaker 2: to the movies probably your whole life. Yeah, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 2: the etiquette. I mean it's not anything complicated. You're there
- 8:55Speaker 2: for two hours. Just turn your phone off.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Certain people, you know, they can't help it. If it's
- 8:59Speaker 1: a four year old kid and you're going to a
- 9:02Speaker 1: kid's movie, you just say it is what it's. You know,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I shouldn't be here. I'm thirty six years old with
- 9:08Speaker 1: a mustache. I probably should not be watching Despicable of
- 9:10Speaker 1: Me by myself on a random Saturday. So this is
- 9:13Speaker 1: on me. They can't help it.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but there.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but when it's like you said, a fifty year old,
- 9:20Speaker 1: sixty year old, eighteen year old, you gotta do better.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And yeah, it's the social media thing. It's the I'm
- 9:27Speaker 1: at the movie, look at me, and I've done that before.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Before a movie, I'll take a picture of me outside
- 9:32Speaker 1: of the with the poster and I'll post a review
- 9:35Speaker 1: about it on my Instagram. But to actually film scenes
- 9:38Speaker 1: in a movie for what Yeah, what is it for
- 9:41Speaker 1: for you to go back and watch your camera of
- 9:45Speaker 1: the movie to get a few likes on Instagram. I
- 9:48Speaker 1: have a huge issue with social media.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not big on social media.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I'm addicted to it.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I don't post a lot, I'll I look at it
- 9:55Speaker 2: a lot, but again, who wants who cares that you're
- 9:58Speaker 2: in a movie theater.
- 9:59Speaker 1: It's a big time addiction, and it also is a
- 10:02Speaker 1: big thing happening recently is a lot of people not
- 10:05Speaker 1: wanting to see longer movies, and I think that has
- 10:08Speaker 1: to do with short attention spans. People are used to
- 10:12Speaker 1: five second videos on TikTok, a minute videos on Instagram,
- 10:15Speaker 1: So when they see a showtime that's three hours in
- 10:17Speaker 1: three and a half hours, which is it can be
- 10:20Speaker 1: a lot, but there's some of the best movies of
- 10:22Speaker 1: all time are three hours, three and a half hours.
- 10:24Speaker 1: You know Your Godfathers, all those Scorsese movies are two
- 10:27Speaker 1: and a half three hour movies. Tarantino movies usually three hours,
- 10:30Speaker 1: so if the movie's good, it shouldn't be an issue
- 10:33Speaker 1: with the runtime. I know Wicked was one of those
- 10:35Speaker 1: movies recently that a lot of people were saying, yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but it's two hours and forty five minutes. It didn't
- 10:40Speaker 1: feel like it. It really went quickly.
- 10:43Speaker 2: That's the thing. I have no problem watching a movie
- 10:45Speaker 2: that's two and a half three hours long, but it
- 10:47Speaker 2: can't feel that way. And recently we've watched movies that
- 10:51Speaker 2: are an hour and fifty or two hours that have
- 10:54Speaker 2: felt like three hours, and you're just like, that's bad.
- 10:57Speaker 2: They could have caught out a lot of it. And
- 11:00Speaker 2: like you said, it's hard to it's hard to keep
- 11:02Speaker 2: your attention, like especially if you're not into it. Then
- 11:05Speaker 2: you just kind of like it's almost like when you know,
- 11:07Speaker 2: watching the clock trying to see it go and it
- 11:09Speaker 2: just takes forever.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I will say I do enjoy a nice hour and
- 11:14Speaker 1: forty five minute movie, particularly with certain genres. No comedy
- 11:18Speaker 1: should be two hours long. No comedies need to be
- 11:20Speaker 1: ninety ninety five minutes. Action movies hour fifty minutes. Your
- 11:24Speaker 1: dramas they could be two and a half hours. Epic
- 11:28Speaker 1: action movie, something that is a conclusion to a series.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You know, the last Avengers movie two hours forty five minutes.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Have no issues with that. Yeah, a giant epic, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 1: war film be three hours for all.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Like Gladiator or brief Heart.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah, those are fine being long exactly. But I think
- 11:44Speaker 1: the trend of certain genres being way too long is
- 11:48Speaker 1: something that I feel like we're going to get away
- 11:49Speaker 1: from because audiences aren't going to the movies, and I
- 11:52Speaker 1: think it's a it's it's a shame. And I think
- 11:55Speaker 1: a lot of younger audiences look at showtimes specifically and
- 11:59Speaker 1: we'll see the length of of a movie and we'll
- 12:01Speaker 1: purposely not go see that movie, which is something that
- 12:05Speaker 1: maybe maybe we did talk about it last time. I
- 12:07Speaker 1: don't know what they could do as far as the
- 12:09Speaker 1: changing that have intermissions, something to uh get people to
- 12:14Speaker 1: want to get back to the theater. So we talked
- 12:15Speaker 1: about some of the snacks I know we went over on.
- 12:19Speaker 1: We went completely all over the place. I don't know
- 12:21Speaker 1: how we got to where we got to. I'm a
- 12:23Speaker 1: big popcorn guy. I have the regal unlimited movie pass,
- 12:27Speaker 1: as do you, right, So we accumulate a lot of
- 12:30Speaker 1: points and get temper of concession. But also I have,
- 12:35Speaker 1: you know, a certain amount of points, and I can
- 12:36Speaker 1: redeem that for free small popcorns. So what I do,
- 12:40Speaker 1: and my last name is Greenberg for a reason, I
- 12:42Speaker 1: get the free small popcorn, and then I'll ask for
- 12:45Speaker 1: a courtesy cup of ice, and then I'll get which
- 12:49Speaker 1: is like a small cup of ice, and then I'll
- 12:51Speaker 1: just go to the water fountain and fill it up
- 12:52Speaker 1: with water because it's a lot of money.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Well, I was just gonna say that to you. That's
- 12:56Speaker 2: also part of the reason that people don't go to
- 12:58Speaker 2: the movies anymore, because you got to take out a
- 12:59Speaker 2: long if you're bringing like your significant other and like
- 13:03Speaker 2: if you have kids or whatever.
- 13:04Speaker 1: My god, my brother spent My brother spent one hundred
- 13:07Speaker 1: and fifty bucks going to them.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Yes, and then the kids, obviously you're gonna want popcorn, candy, soda.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I went to a movie a few weeks ago, and
- 13:15Speaker 1: I noticed I took a picture actually of there because
- 13:20Speaker 1: there's a computer screen with all the you know, prices
- 13:22Speaker 1: of what they're picking up. It was a kid, and
- 13:25Speaker 1: I want to say, his grandma sixty eight dollars just
- 13:30Speaker 1: on snacks. Wow, they got the this was a big thing.
- 13:35Speaker 1: What's happening now is these popcorn buckets. So there's like
- 13:39Speaker 1: themed after certain movies. Which popcorn bucket they got, but
- 13:43Speaker 1: that's like a big thing. You know. They had the
- 13:45Speaker 1: Dune one last year, there was an Alien.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And the Wicked one.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Yeah, there's there's a ton of them. So they got
- 13:51Speaker 1: one of those, which is already twenty eight dollars in itself.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Then they got you know, the they each got a
- 13:57Speaker 1: large soda, which is ten dollars.
- 13:59Speaker 2: There is super unnecessary because the small, the small is
- 14:03Speaker 2: a bucket.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't like getting this the large. When it's
- 14:07Speaker 1: your birthday, you get a free large soda and a
- 14:10Speaker 1: free large popcorn. I said, just give me a small.
- 14:13Speaker 1: I cannot have a I can physically not have a
- 14:16Speaker 1: large soda. So I mean I watched this person and
- 14:20Speaker 1: his grandma sixty eight dollars. That's just for the food. Now,
- 14:24Speaker 1: that's not including the two tickets. If they saw an
- 14:26Speaker 1: Imax movie, that's fifty dollars for two tickets. You're talking
- 14:30Speaker 1: one hundred and fifteen dollars or so for one trip
- 14:34Speaker 1: to the movies. That's a vacation.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and the movies have not been good.
- 14:40Speaker 2: I mean, we've seen a lot more than we would
- 14:42Speaker 2: have seen because we have that unlimited pass, so we're
- 14:45Speaker 2: obviously gonna use it. We don't want to waste it.
- 14:47Speaker 2: But if you go twice a month, you make money
- 14:50Speaker 2: on it or you save money, it.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Pays for itself.
- 14:52Speaker 2: But we've seen a lot of bad movies because of it.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of bad movies as well. And
- 14:57Speaker 1: I am going to get to my worst movies of
- 14:59Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. I released my Best Movies of twenty
- 15:02Speaker 1: twenty four, you know last week it just got released.
- 15:06Speaker 2: How many did you see?
- 15:07Speaker 1: I saw one hundred and one movies we saw.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I saw thirty one and Jackie saw thirty five.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Oh, did you see anything that she didn't see?
- 15:16Speaker 2: No, he saw four that I didn't see because she
- 15:19Speaker 2: went on like the Monday Mystery one. I've never done that,
- 15:23Speaker 2: and she saw three other movies that I didn't want
- 15:27Speaker 2: to see. So she went on a Monday while I
- 15:28Speaker 2: was bowling or Tuesday while I was working.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Does she go by herself?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:32Speaker 1: I I Out of the one hundred and one movies
- 15:35Speaker 1: I saw, I'd say ninety five of them were by myself,
- 15:40Speaker 1: because again, who am I going to talk to I'm
- 15:41Speaker 1: watching a movie.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Exactly. You don't need somebody there because, like you said,
- 15:45Speaker 2: normal people don't talk to him during the movie. I mean,
- 15:49Speaker 2: you could talk after about how bad it was or
- 15:51Speaker 2: how good it was.
- 15:52Speaker 1: But sometimes I'll just talk to myself. I think I've
- 15:55Speaker 1: told you about my TikTok character, the sheriff. Yes, so
- 15:58Speaker 1: he just sort of talks to himself at the movie.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I actually, here's a funny fact. At that theater, the
- 16:03Speaker 1: Westbury Theater, I have been the sheriff for the last
- 16:06Speaker 1: three years, so they do not know my real voice.
- 16:09Speaker 1: They have no idea who I am. I talk I guests,
- 16:12Speaker 1: and I have movies, and I can't change character because
- 16:15Speaker 1: it's too late.
- 16:16Speaker 2: So they think you're one of the special needs kids.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yes, and I have gone on dates there, and I'll
- 16:23Speaker 1: have to just buy my ticket, buy myself at the
- 16:26Speaker 1: kiosk with her, and I just say go get a
- 16:28Speaker 1: seat and I'll get the popcorn.
- 16:30Speaker 2: You know, because you can't talk normal. I can't talk normal,
- 16:33Speaker 2: And then if you talk like that in front of
- 16:35Speaker 2: your date, you'll be alone.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. So it's it's it's like a Catch twenty
- 16:40Speaker 1: two right there. But quickly other snacks though, and we
- 16:44Speaker 1: will get to some more movies. I feel like I
- 16:46Speaker 1: need to get soda. If I'm getting popcorn, I'm not
- 16:48Speaker 1: getting water, So you need to have soda. Yeah, And
- 16:52Speaker 1: I like pretzels and nachos, I don't. I rarely get that, like.
- 16:56Speaker 2: The soft pretzels. Yep, I'll do that.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But here's the thing, and I have talked about it,
- 17:01Speaker 1: so I hate to regurgitate stories that I've talked about
- 17:03Speaker 1: on the radio. Or rather I was gonna say the
- 17:05Speaker 1: Radio Rumble, which is my radio show Saturday twelve to two,
- 17:08Speaker 1: that I have talked about in the film reel before.
- 17:11Speaker 1: But the issue I have with the snacks that you
- 17:13Speaker 1: dip in the cheese is you don't know how much
- 17:16Speaker 1: cheese you have left, so you have to like ration it.
- 17:19Speaker 1: But then at the end you might be like, I
- 17:21Speaker 1: have half a thing of cheese left and only three
- 17:23Speaker 1: nacho chips off I've completely butchered it. Or it could
- 17:26Speaker 1: be vice versa. You have no cheese left and you
- 17:29Speaker 1: have like seven pretzels to dip nothing.
- 17:31Speaker 2: In, So do you go get more cheese or more
- 17:34Speaker 2: pretzels or nachos. If that has O, I'll either don't
- 17:37Speaker 2: tell me, you just like put your finger in the
- 17:39Speaker 2: cheese and eat it.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I might do a little bit of that. I might
- 17:41Speaker 1: do a little bit of that. But I had an
- 17:42Speaker 1: idea they need to have glow in the dark cheese.
- 17:47Speaker 2: That does not sound good. But I'm gonna say that's
- 17:50Speaker 2: probably not gonna be appetizing.
- 17:52Speaker 1: It's probably going to cause some sort of stomach hand.
- 17:55Speaker 2: They could just put some sort of like glow in
- 17:56Speaker 2: the dark on the container.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Something something for us, but not distract, but not just
- 18:04Speaker 1: They need to figure it out. There needs to be
- 18:06Speaker 1: some sort of.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I mean, is it that dark? You really can't tell
- 18:09Speaker 2: how much sees you have.
- 18:10Speaker 1: You can't because it blends in. It's the same color
- 18:13Speaker 1: as like the packing material. So I guess the old
- 18:16Speaker 1: pinky and the cheese trick is the rat that I'm
- 18:19Speaker 1: going But pretzels and nachos.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Are you raising sky?
- 18:23Speaker 1: I am Jackie. That's her favorite and I never was
- 18:26Speaker 1: as a kid.
- 18:26Speaker 2: However, I've never seen her eat them, but she says
- 18:29Speaker 2: that's her favorite. Yeah. The fact that you said skittles, well,
- 18:32Speaker 2: I'm just I'm a hard candy guy, like I like
- 18:35Speaker 2: that this sour patch kids.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Ye what else are fantastic? You do the watermelon of
- 18:40Speaker 1: those standard kids.
- 18:41Speaker 2: It doesn't matter whatever they got.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I hate the fact that you have to time everything
- 18:47Speaker 1: out properly, in my opinion, which is why I miss
- 18:51Speaker 1: a lot of the previews when I go to the theaters.
- 18:53Speaker 1: If I'm getting a snack, because I don't want to
- 18:55Speaker 1: be sitting there watching previews, let alone commercials, because there's
- 19:00Speaker 1: fifteen minutes of commercials nowadays. Yeah, before I get my food,
- 19:05Speaker 1: because I don't want to have no food while watching
- 19:07Speaker 1: the movie. So I time it out. I'll say, give
- 19:10Speaker 1: me my popcorn after like the fourth preview, and then
- 19:13Speaker 1: I'll go and get it, and then time it out
- 19:16Speaker 1: perfectly to you know, sit in my seat right when
- 19:18Speaker 1: the movie's about to start, because if you're getting popcorn
- 19:20Speaker 1: before the movie, you might finish it before the previous.
- 19:24Speaker 2: That's what I did last time.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, the last time I got it, I went and
- 19:27Speaker 2: I'm eating it and then the movie's about to start
- 19:29Speaker 2: and I looked down. I was like, well, I'm done
- 19:30Speaker 2: with my popcorn. So there goes that.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I like the popcorn is great because it's long lasting,
- 19:37Speaker 1: like I could eat those pretzels in four minutes. Oh y,
- 19:39Speaker 1: popcorn takes a while.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Yeah, because you know you can only grab so many.
- 19:43Speaker 2: They're falling on you. You gotta find them, and yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 2: eat those. And the the previews are out of control.
- 19:51Speaker 1: It's insane.
- 19:51Speaker 2: It's twenty it's minimum twenty minutes, and a lot of
- 19:54Speaker 2: them are thirty.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's usually, Yeah, it's usually twenty five. But that's
- 19:58Speaker 1: not including the commercials.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Yeah, so we usually you don't show up until five
- 20:01Speaker 2: ten minutes after the showtime, and then we still see
- 20:05Speaker 2: four or five previews.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I have a big issue with previews. It's it's they
- 20:08Speaker 1: show too much. It's it's horrible. Whoever edits These previews
- 20:14Speaker 1: should immediately be fired. But they should also say what
- 20:17Speaker 1: the actual showtime is. They should have two times on
- 20:21Speaker 1: these apps. It should say preview time and actual showtime.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I like that idea because people should be showing up
- 20:29Speaker 1: if they want to skip out on that crap and
- 20:31Speaker 1: not watch forty five minutes of ads. Yeah, there should
- 20:33Speaker 1: be an option.
- 20:35Speaker 2: And somehow people still show up late for movies. Yep,
- 20:37Speaker 2: I don't get it. Like they came in on Wednesday.
- 20:40Speaker 2: This couple came in about probably five six minutes after
- 20:44Speaker 2: it started. It was a six point twenty quote unquote
- 20:48Speaker 2: showtime that started at six point fifty and they showed
- 20:52Speaker 2: up at six fifty five.
- 20:53Speaker 1: What's the point. It's like, Wow, if you knew you
- 20:55Speaker 1: were gonna be that late, just go wait for another showtime. Right,
- 21:00Speaker 1: Let's get to some other some other chatting, Jonathan. Let's
- 21:04Speaker 1: get into this thing real quick. And this is your opinion,
- 21:08Speaker 1: and you are in the minority when it comes to
- 21:10Speaker 1: people on the film real there's a movie called The
- 21:12Speaker 1: Substance that came out last year, which is one of
- 21:15Speaker 1: the front runners for several Oscars. Demi Moore just won
- 21:18Speaker 1: the Golden Globe for Best Actress for her performance in
- 21:21Speaker 1: the movie. You're the only person you and your girlfriend
- 21:26Speaker 1: are the only two people I've talked to that not
- 21:29Speaker 1: only didn't like the movie, you hated the movie.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Not the entire movie. So that's not the entire movie.
- 21:36Speaker 1: So that's my issue with you, because you were like,
- 21:38Speaker 1: this is the worst movie ever.
- 21:40Speaker 2: No. So the first movie, the first hour and twenty
- 21:43Speaker 2: to hour and thirty minutes was fine. Okay, the premise
- 21:47Speaker 2: was good. I understand what you're saying about the story
- 21:50Speaker 2: of actresses in Hollywood. They have to stay young, they
- 21:54Speaker 2: have to stay relevant, all that stuff. I get it.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I get the premise of the story.
- 21:59Speaker 1: It's simple.
- 22:00Speaker 2: The last forty minutes flew off the handle. It turned
- 22:04Speaker 2: into a blob monster with body parts coming out of
- 22:09Speaker 2: it everywhere. Faces on the side, she's putting ear rings
- 22:13Speaker 2: in an eyeball and then just puts it and has
- 22:16Speaker 2: a dress on, and then just walks into a crowded
- 22:19Speaker 2: theater to host the New Year's Eve thing, and everybody's
- 22:22Speaker 2: looking at her as she has a picture taped stapled
- 22:26Speaker 2: to her head to make her look like Demi Moore,
- 22:29Speaker 2: and then just blood spewing everywhere for a half hour.
- 22:33Speaker 2: It just it went way off the.
- 22:35Speaker 1: You're making me love the movie even more. It's perfect.
- 22:39Speaker 2: It went perfectly, way off the deep end. I mean
- 22:42Speaker 2: it was. Yes, I get that it was kind of
- 22:43Speaker 2: a sci fi type movie because obviously, I mean, the
- 22:47Speaker 2: person comes out of your back and then luckily they're
- 22:52Speaker 2: a trauma surgeon, so then I had to show you
- 22:54Speaker 2: up properly. I mean, I think they could have did
- 22:57Speaker 2: something different there.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I think you're overthinking aspects of the movie.
- 23:01Speaker 2: But no, but I didn't know it. It just turned
- 23:03Speaker 2: into an absolute disaster. So yeah, I love it. The
- 23:07Speaker 2: story I get again about staying relevant and staying young. Also,
- 23:12Speaker 2: the one big plot hole is that they can never
- 23:15Speaker 2: be alive at the same time than they were. Then
- 23:17Speaker 2: they fought each other.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I would need to rewatch it to see exactly how
- 23:22Speaker 1: that went down, because you know, I watched it four
- 23:25Speaker 1: months ago or so. But I I loved this movie,
- 23:29Speaker 1: Jonathan from from the Sound, because because you're mentioning things
- 23:34Speaker 1: that you liked about it, you know, the acting was great.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Did you not think Demi Moore was fantastic in this movie?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Demi Moore was very good. And I'm a big Dennis
- 23:43Speaker 2: Quaid fan, and I understand that that was the part
- 23:46Speaker 2: he had to play, but I didn't like it.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Well, he did his job then.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Exactly like when he was eating the shrimp was the
- 23:52Speaker 2: most disgusting and oh it's so disgusting. Yeah, he did
- 23:57Speaker 2: it great, but I don't like him in that role,
- 23:59Speaker 2: I guess, but but yes, he did he did it great. Also,
- 24:03Speaker 2: like the what's your.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Name Margaret quality Quali qually.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Something like that. Okay, So I also didn't like how
- 24:12Speaker 2: they were just the like the exercise teacher, Like that's
- 24:17Speaker 2: what they were like. They weren't even really like an.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Actress, they were just like I love it.
- 24:22Speaker 2: I can't know no.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Visually, it was beautiful. I think it was the best
- 24:26Speaker 1: looking movie of the year. The sound was fantastic. Now,
- 24:29Speaker 1: you guys watched this at home, so you missed out
- 24:31Speaker 1: on the theater quality sound. But the score, like the
- 24:35Speaker 1: music was, was top notch. The sound design fantastic. Visually,
- 24:40Speaker 1: the setting, the sets, everything about it was great. The
- 24:44Speaker 1: prosthetic makeup. I'm a big horror movie fan, so I
- 24:48Speaker 1: loved the movie like The Fly and the Thing, and
- 24:50Speaker 1: if you're fans of those movies, you would definitely like
- 24:53Speaker 1: this movie. One of the big issues I have with
- 24:56Speaker 1: you two is you're bashing me for liking this movie
- 25:01Speaker 1: as if I made you watch it. I never said
- 25:05Speaker 1: for you guys to watch it.
- 25:06Speaker 2: We didn't bash you.
- 25:07Speaker 1: We just we just tagged team in me.
- 25:12Speaker 2: We just said that we didn't like. Actually, I think
- 25:14Speaker 2: Lisa was the one that told us to watch it.
- 25:16Speaker 2: We knew that you had watched it.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Michel, friend of ours, said watch the movie, and then
- 25:22Speaker 1: I said to her, I watched the movie. She's like, Oh,
- 25:24Speaker 1: it's fantastic, and then weeks go by you say to
- 25:27Speaker 1: her you don't like the movie, and then she's like,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I hated the movie completely backtrack.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, she just wants to whoever's talking wants to make
- 25:34Speaker 2: them happy. So if you liked it, she liked it,
- 25:36Speaker 2: you didn't like it, she didn't like it. But no,
- 25:38Speaker 2: we never said that you made us watch it. We
- 25:40Speaker 2: knew that you liked it. And again, the first hour
- 25:44Speaker 2: and twenty hour and thirty I was in. I was in,
- 25:47Speaker 2: and then I wasn't, and then for me it completely
- 25:50Speaker 2: lost everything that it was doing.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Well, these are not the movies that you're into, which
- 25:55Speaker 1: is why if you actually asked me, you know, which
- 25:57Speaker 1: movie to watch on my top five list, that would
- 25:59Speaker 1: probably be the last one i'd recommend. Just especially your
- 26:03Speaker 1: girlfriend Jackie, based on the movies that she likes. This
- 26:06Speaker 1: is not a Jackie movie.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Well, she actually is the one who wanted to watch it.
- 26:09Speaker 2: I mean, don't get me wrong. When we saw it
- 26:11Speaker 2: come out, we said we're gonna watch this. Yeah, and
- 26:13Speaker 2: then that night I was like, Hey, which which movie
- 26:15Speaker 2: you want to watch? And she's like, let's watch The Substance.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And I watched My Penguin Friend well that one.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we probably should.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Have been nice and cute and a nice little penguin guy. Yeah, no,
- 26:25Speaker 1: weird sex, you know, destruction, zombie things happening. So I mean,
- 26:31Speaker 1: I liked it. It seems like you you liked aspects
- 26:35Speaker 1: of it, which is why when you say it's the
- 26:36Speaker 1: worst movie ever, it's clearly not. There's so many worst
- 26:39Speaker 1: movies out there. There are movies that are shot ugly,
- 26:42Speaker 1: there's movies that have terrible sound mixing. There's movies that
- 26:44Speaker 1: have terrible acting. This had none of them, There's no.
- 26:47Speaker 2: And there's movies that are just bad from beginning to end.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Like I said, the first hour and twenty hour and
- 26:52Speaker 2: thirty was fine, it was good. I'll even say it
- 26:54Speaker 2: was good. But the last forty minutes completely completely for me,
- 27:00Speaker 2: terming completely off. But I also, I guess I don't
- 27:02Speaker 2: watch movies like you with sound mixing and sets and scores.
- 27:07Speaker 2: My big thing, whether I like a movie or not
- 27:09Speaker 2: is do I like the actual movie, not now it's
- 27:11Speaker 2: made and stuff like that, which I don't even know
- 27:14Speaker 2: if I would know how to watch it for that purpose.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm with you. The main thing that
- 27:20Speaker 1: I take away from movie is did I like the
- 27:22Speaker 1: movie with a plot? Good? But there are other things
- 27:24Speaker 1: that I look at, like visual. It's just super important
- 27:27Speaker 1: to me these days. Watching the movie Nosferatu was such
- 27:31Speaker 1: a treat because it was such a visually appealing movie.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I remember you talking about that. Was it good?
- 27:36Speaker 1: I liked it. I liked it. I would not recommend
- 27:39Speaker 1: it again.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Not a Jackie movie.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Not a Jackie movie. I don't think it's a Jonathan
- 27:42Speaker 1: movie either, potentially, But it's weird. There's like sexual things
- 27:46Speaker 1: going on, there's body horror, and it's a lot of
- 27:49Speaker 1: elements that are similar to the substance in that aspect.
- 27:52Speaker 2: But that movie is about a vampire. Correct. Yeah, okay,
- 27:56Speaker 2: so that's expected in a vampire movie. If you have
- 27:59Speaker 2: some looking creature, that's fine. It's a vampire movie. It's
- 28:03Speaker 2: obviously fake. I mean, but you.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Didn't see like the trailers for the substance or see
- 28:08Speaker 1: that people are saying this is like the best body
- 28:10Speaker 1: horror movie going into this, that this was going to
- 28:13Speaker 1: be a fucked up, you know, body horror experience.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Yes, but only because you see in the the post
- 28:20Speaker 2: her back right. So I knew it was something weird
- 28:23Speaker 2: like that, And like you said, the makeup and everything
- 28:27Speaker 2: with Demi Moore was fantastic as they aged her. When
- 28:30Speaker 2: the other girl stayed out too long and it was
- 28:32Speaker 2: killing her and her body, that was fine. I understood
- 28:36Speaker 2: that part. Again, it was the creature thing at the
- 28:38Speaker 2: end that completely I can understand that.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I'm not going to sit here and say that's not
- 28:43Speaker 1: for everybody. It's it's an eclectic sort of taste. So
- 28:47Speaker 1: we'll see what it does when the Academy Awards come.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Up, which I don't get that. I don't get that either.
- 28:52Speaker 2: What were there that many bad movies last year that
- 28:55Speaker 2: that's the front runner.
- 28:57Speaker 1: For Best Actress? Oh, just for I don't think it's
- 29:00Speaker 1: Best a Picture. I don't think it's gonna win. As
- 29:04Speaker 1: of now, as of this recording, we don't even know
- 29:06Speaker 1: if it's nominated for it. But this has been a
- 29:09Speaker 1: week year for these Oscar type of movies. And the
- 29:13Speaker 1: one movie that I know you want to see, at least, Jackie,
- 29:17Speaker 1: I know I've talked about it is The Brutalist with
- 29:19Speaker 1: Adrian Brody, which is playing nowhere locally. Really, it's playing
- 29:23Speaker 1: only in like in Manhattan, and Brooklyn, and I'm hoping
- 29:27Speaker 1: that changes because it just won a bunch of awards
- 29:29Speaker 1: at the Golden Globe. So usually when these movies start
- 29:32Speaker 1: to win awards, they'll start to put them out in
- 29:35Speaker 1: the theaters. So I'm hoping. I mean, if this movie
- 29:37Speaker 1: wins the Oscar for Best Picture, can at least be
- 29:40Speaker 1: released on Long Island.
- 29:41Speaker 2: And like you said, that's three and a half hours
- 29:43Speaker 2: is a lot. And I heard they give you an intermission.
- 29:46Speaker 2: That's what I already said from you.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I don't know who told me. I think Jackie told me,
- 29:51Speaker 2: but I thought you told her. But no, I guess
- 29:53Speaker 2: not no, So I don't.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Know who knows. But that is something that I wouldn't mind,
- 29:58Speaker 1: like we said, happening in future movies. Let's get to
- 30:01Speaker 1: one other thing before we get to our main event,
- 30:03Speaker 1: which is we're going to be talking about three movies
- 30:08Speaker 1: that we wish we could see in theaters for the
- 30:11Speaker 1: first time ever. We're getting in a hypothetical time machine.
- 30:15Speaker 1: You can even change your age if you want to say, like, oh,
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'm five year old Jonathan and I'm watching this movie
- 30:20Speaker 1: for the first time. You could do that. You could
- 30:21Speaker 1: go back in time, so you could be in the thirties,
- 30:23Speaker 1: you could be in the forties, fifties. You're putting yourself
- 30:26Speaker 1: in that setting watching the movie with an audience for
- 30:29Speaker 1: the first time. What would be those movies? But before
- 30:32Speaker 1: we get to that, I want to talk briefly about
- 30:35Speaker 1: renting movies at Blockbuster, because I just had a caller
- 30:39Speaker 1: call up the radio show I'm on Radio Rumbles Saturday
- 30:42Speaker 1: twelve to two. I was talking to this guy, Charlie
- 30:45Speaker 1: about Blockbuster Video and how much fun we had going
- 30:49Speaker 1: to it when we were younger, and I have such
- 30:51Speaker 1: fond memories of going there renting not just movies but
- 30:55Speaker 1: video games. I even rented video game consoles because you
- 30:58Speaker 1: could get the suitcase with the PlayStation one in it,
- 31:02Speaker 1: and I remember taking that home and playing some helicopter
- 31:04Speaker 1: game and just being blown away at the graphical improvement
- 31:07Speaker 1: from the Super Nintendo to you know, the three D
- 31:10Speaker 1: centric world of the PlayStation One. But renting movies, VHS, tapes, DVDs,
- 31:16Speaker 1: just roaming around the aisles and looking at the cover art.
- 31:19Speaker 1: It was such a fun time to go there, and
- 31:21Speaker 1: I miss it dearly because it's just such a part
- 31:25Speaker 1: of my childhood.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I couldn't agree with you more Blockbuster on a Friday night,
- 31:29Speaker 2: picking out your movies for the weekend, grabbing your candy,
- 31:32Speaker 2: you know that was I used to go to the
- 31:34Speaker 2: one I'm talking When I'm in my early twenties, I
- 31:38Speaker 2: moved down the Long Island and I used to go
- 31:40Speaker 2: to the one in Ocean Side.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Okay, there's two in Ocean Side. There was one by
- 31:45Speaker 1: the ihop that's the one.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, by Atlantic.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Yep, yep, yep, exactly what are you're talking? On the
- 31:50Speaker 1: way towards Nathan's. Yeah, Nathan's was another place that's no
- 31:54Speaker 1: longer there. They have another Nathan's. They moved to a
- 31:56Speaker 1: smaller area. Okay, but the old, the giant Nathan's with
- 31:59Speaker 1: the right on the corner, Yeah, we'd go there. There
- 32:02Speaker 1: was a KB Toys that's no longer there. Correct, that
- 32:04Speaker 1: became a toys to us. But we used to do
- 32:07Speaker 1: the route we go. You know, you go far down
- 32:11Speaker 1: to KB, get your toy, go back to Nathan's, eat
- 32:14Speaker 1: your French fries, play the arcade game, then go home,
- 32:16Speaker 1: maybe rent the movie from Blockbuster. I went to the
- 32:19Speaker 1: one in Baldwin. Okay, well, if there was no tape
- 32:22Speaker 1: at the bald one.
- 32:23Speaker 2: We'd go to the Oh yeah. You always had a
- 32:24Speaker 2: call and check where they were if you really wanted
- 32:26Speaker 2: to see it, and.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Then calling up saying do you have this FIFA game?
- 32:29Speaker 1: They're like, yeah, we have it. I drove down there.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Yeah we don't have it. I would think, what do
- 32:33Speaker 1: you You don't have it? You said you had it,
- 32:34Speaker 1: we drove here.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I would call up and be like, hey, do you
- 32:36Speaker 2: have this movie? And they're like no, we're all out.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I'm like, check the returns, check the returns. Yeah, and
- 32:40Speaker 2: they'd be like, oh, yeah, there's one in there. I'm like,
- 32:42Speaker 2: I'll be there in ten minutes older for me, Like yeah, no.
- 32:44Speaker 2: We used to do that all the time. I mean,
- 32:45Speaker 2: if it was a popular movie, they would have a
- 32:48Speaker 2: whole wall of it, just a one movie and it
- 32:52Speaker 2: would still sell out. Yeah, and it's like all right,
- 32:54Speaker 2: well when did they returning it or you know? I
- 32:56Speaker 2: but yeah, I used to be a big blockbuster guy.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You ever do Hollywood video?
- 33:02Speaker 2: I don't think so. I think I was just a
- 33:04Speaker 2: straight blockbuster. And then after Blockbuster it was red Box.
- 33:08Speaker 2: I never did really I used to because I used
- 33:10Speaker 2: to go to the seven to eleven. Yeah, get my cigarettes,
- 33:13Speaker 2: my call fee, whatever. And then red Box, red Box.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I can't tell you that was like the new Blockbuster
- 33:18Speaker 2: for me for a while. And now, I mean if
- 33:20Speaker 2: you see a red Box anywhere, you're like, wow, that
- 33:22Speaker 2: that's ancient.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, outdated.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I love about Blockbuster the fact that you would let
- 33:31Speaker 1: movies breathe. And what I mean by that is if
- 33:33Speaker 1: you rented a movie at Blockbuster, you were stuck with
- 33:36Speaker 1: that movie. So with Netflix, you have five hundred movies
- 33:41Speaker 1: on Netflix, you have five hundred movies on Peacock, Amazon, Hulu,
- 33:44Speaker 1: all these things. There's two thousand movies at your disposal
- 33:46Speaker 1: at any given time, So if you don't like something
- 33:49Speaker 1: after five minutes, you could turn it off. Ye. And
- 33:52Speaker 1: a lot of these movies took time to breathe, and
- 33:55Speaker 1: and you gave it an opportunity when you would rent
- 33:58Speaker 1: to that Blockbuster because it was your only option. And
- 34:02Speaker 1: I love that idea that you know, I remember renting
- 34:05Speaker 1: Frankenstein from back in the day, you know, the nineteen thirties, Frankistan.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I couldn't imagine watching that today because it'd be like,
- 34:11Speaker 1: this is boring us help. But then I ended up
- 34:13Speaker 1: loving it, and I love that ability of renting a
- 34:16Speaker 1: movie with the family. We would have family movie nights,
- 34:19Speaker 1: the whole family. My dad was huge in the Blockbuster.
- 34:22Speaker 1: We had the gold membership for Blockbuster, and just so
- 34:26Speaker 1: many fun memories renting wrestling tapes, you know, because I
- 34:29Speaker 1: got into wrestling in nineteen ninety five. But I would
- 34:32Speaker 1: see all these tapes of guys and be like, Sean Michaels, Oh,
- 34:36Speaker 1: he used to wrestle back in the day, Like he
- 34:38Speaker 1: had a mullet. This is insane. And then he'd be like, oh,
- 34:41Speaker 1: he was a bad guy because he was a good
- 34:43Speaker 1: guy when I started watching, But then I find the
- 34:45Speaker 1: tape like, oh, he's fighting mister Perfect, but mister Perfect
- 34:48Speaker 1: is a good guy, and show Michaels is a bad guy.
- 34:50Speaker 1: This is insane. So I'd rent all these old Royal
- 34:52Speaker 1: rumboldts and WrestleManias and just looking at the cover art
- 34:55Speaker 1: and being fascinated by the way it looked, and uh,
- 34:58Speaker 1: you know the beauty of not having the Internet is
- 35:00Speaker 1: you didn't know who won the Royal Rumble that year.
- 35:02Speaker 1: So she'd be like, I don't know, maybe British Bulldog
- 35:05Speaker 1: wins it. This year. But nowadays you can look up
- 35:07Speaker 1: anything instantaneous.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Anything you want at your fingertips.
- 35:11Speaker 1: It's a big problem I think with society. It takes
- 35:14Speaker 1: away from conversations because and there's no debate. You could say,
- 35:19Speaker 1: you know who had a better season in two thousand
- 35:21Speaker 1: and two, Barry Bonds or you know whomever, and then
- 35:24Speaker 1: you just go, well, I have the stature, seventy three
- 35:28Speaker 1: guys all this stuff. But back in the day, you
- 35:30Speaker 1: could even have an argument, like Douf Lungern was in
- 35:33Speaker 1: that movie. He'd be like, no, he wasn't like he
- 35:35Speaker 1: was in that movie, and it would be like a
- 35:36Speaker 1: four hour conversation, like I remember he said this line.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Now you just go look at his IMDb and look
- 35:42Speaker 1: up all dof Lunger in movies. So that's one of
- 35:45Speaker 1: the issues. I like technology. I love the advancement of technology.
- 35:49Speaker 1: I like AI believe it or not. I like the
- 35:51Speaker 1: fact that I can listen to music. I could listen
- 35:52Speaker 1: to this podcast. Wherever we want to listen to podcasts,
- 35:55Speaker 1: I could get directions. I would be lost if they
- 35:57Speaker 1: said get to hear to Hartford, Connecticut. Back in the day,
- 36:00Speaker 1: do you remember the map?
- 36:01Speaker 2: Do you remember you either had to use a map
- 36:03Speaker 2: or then you printed off the step by step directions.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Some map quests four pages.
- 36:08Speaker 1: My parents trying to get the Pennsylvania caused nineteen arguments
- 36:12Speaker 1: and probably could have ended the marriage if my father
- 36:14Speaker 1: lived longer. But that's all gone now with the beauty
- 36:17Speaker 1: of technology. So there are good things for it. But
- 36:20Speaker 1: those simpler times, we're going to Blockbuster on a cold
- 36:23Speaker 1: night and you're stuck inside and it's raining, and you
- 36:26Speaker 1: rented two video games and two movies, and you got
- 36:29Speaker 1: the whole weekend or a slumber party.
- 36:31Speaker 2: I was just gonna say slumber party. I was just
- 36:33Speaker 2: gonna say, you get you know, a bunch of friends, Like, yeah,
- 36:35Speaker 2: I'm gonna go get these movies. Yeah, I got the candy,
- 36:38Speaker 2: you get the soda, you get the pizza, and just
- 36:40Speaker 2: hang out for you know, not leave your house for
- 36:42Speaker 2: two days, yep, and just have a blast.
- 36:44Speaker 1: You'd watch a movie. I used to watch a movie,
- 36:46Speaker 1: the same movie five times over a weekend. Really, if
- 36:49Speaker 1: I rented like a movie, I like, if I read
- 36:51Speaker 1: Mortal Kombats out on VHS, I'm gonna rent Mortal Kombat.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Then you'd watch it. And then you just watch them again,
- 36:57Speaker 1: you'd watch it four or five times before their return.
- 36:59Speaker 2: The Netflix, so yeah, get your money's worth, right.
- 37:02Speaker 1: And then, speaking of food, there's a McDonald's right next
- 37:05Speaker 1: to our Blockbuster. So what I would do is my
- 37:08Speaker 1: mom would drive in the drive through. I tell her, okay,
- 37:12Speaker 1: I want to Hamburger happy Meal and then you know, mcflurry,
- 37:18Speaker 1: and then I'd run out of the car, run into Blockbuster,
- 37:21Speaker 1: get my thing, and then you know, try and time it,
- 37:24Speaker 1: time it out, run out, and then she'd be getting
- 37:27Speaker 1: the food and I'd get right into the front of
- 37:29Speaker 1: the car and just you know, like a quick drive by,
- 37:32Speaker 1: get home, and then watch the movie. But a lot
- 37:35Speaker 1: of these movies you wouldn't even know if it was
- 37:36Speaker 1: gonna be good or not. You'd have to just base
- 37:38Speaker 1: it off of the cover art and read the synopsis
- 37:41Speaker 1: on the back. And it made for some fun times.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Watching bad movies was also really fun back in the day.
- 37:46Speaker 1: You'd rent something crappy and you just laugh along with it.
- 37:48Speaker 2: It was more fun than now going to the theater
- 37:50Speaker 2: and watching bad movies and sitting there.
- 37:52Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, well those are the good old days.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I miss it, and these kids.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Will never know it. No they'll never know it, you said.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I collect VHS tapes. I'm a big fan of just
- 38:03Speaker 1: nostalgia in general, but just that artwork, and yeah, the
- 38:07Speaker 1: kids will never know. And you know, forty years from now,
- 38:11Speaker 1: the kids that our kids now are gonna be like, well,
- 38:14Speaker 1: you don't know about you don't know about TikTok, you
- 38:17Speaker 1: don't know about the Rizzler and all these things that
- 38:20Speaker 1: that Every generation says that, because I'm sure older generations
- 38:25Speaker 1: would say, oh, you don't remember paying ten cents and
- 38:28Speaker 1: watching a Looney Tune short before a movie. So generations
- 38:33Speaker 1: just hated the next generation.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Yeah, what else had to.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Walk six miles back and forth up hill in the
- 38:40Speaker 1: snow every single day to school.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody's heard that one.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Let's get to the main event, Jonathan. Let's get to
- 38:47Speaker 1: the movies we would want to see in theaters for
- 38:51Speaker 1: the first time ever. So in our hypothetical time machine,
- 38:55Speaker 1: we're traveling back in time to watch three movies for
- 38:58Speaker 1: the very first time. I'm with an audience. I'm gonna
- 39:02Speaker 1: start off with some honorable mentions. I don't know if
- 39:04Speaker 1: you have any honorable mentions, but I'm gonna throw out
- 39:07Speaker 1: a few of them. Okay, number one Ghostbusters from nineteen
- 39:12Speaker 1: eighty four. The world loved this movie. I've talked to
- 39:16Speaker 1: my old therapist about how big this movie was and
- 39:20Speaker 1: how New York City essentially embraced the Ghostbusters as you know,
- 39:25Speaker 1: mascots of the city. And he lived in the city
- 39:28Speaker 1: at the time, and he would say he would go
- 39:30Speaker 1: walking down the street, he'd see people selling bootleg Ghostbusters
- 39:33Speaker 1: shirts and it was a phenomenon. And I love those actors,
- 39:37Speaker 1: and I love the mixing of genres. You have comedy,
- 39:40Speaker 1: you have science fiction. You have all this cool technology,
- 39:43Speaker 1: the ghost trap, the the proton packt the vehicles. I'm
- 39:46Speaker 1: a big fan of movie vehicles, and the ECDO one,
- 39:49Speaker 1: the vehicle that they drive in is fantastic. But then
- 39:52Speaker 1: you have just a great chemistry of the cast of
- 39:54Speaker 1: Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Rick moranis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver,
- 39:59Speaker 1: and so forth. And a great poster. That's another thing
- 40:02Speaker 1: that I haven't really talked too much about on film reel,
- 40:04Speaker 1: a very simplistic poster of just the symbol, the no
- 40:07Speaker 1: Ghost symbol. You walk around the movie theater next time,
- 40:10Speaker 1: Jonathan and look out. Ugly posters are. They're all just
- 40:15Speaker 1: just completely too much. They're too busy. And the simplicity
- 40:21Speaker 1: of a Jurassic Park poster or a Ghostbuster's poster or
- 40:24Speaker 1: a Batman nineteen eighty nine poster, where it's just a
- 40:26Speaker 1: symbol and there's intrigue and there's mystery and you don't
- 40:29Speaker 1: really know what you're getting into. The poster art is
- 40:32Speaker 1: definitely a lost thing. But Ghostbusters would definitely be one
- 40:34Speaker 1: of my honorable mentions. Did you have any ones that
- 40:37Speaker 1: you didn't put on your list?
- 40:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so, not that I would want to see. But
- 40:42Speaker 2: when I looked up, you know, I kind of googled,
- 40:45Speaker 2: you know, great movies to see in the theater, and
- 40:48Speaker 2: a lot that I saw that kept coming up were
- 40:52Speaker 2: Lawrence of Arabia, two thousand and one Space Odyssey.
- 40:56Speaker 1: That's definitely one visually, for sure, that'd be cool on.
- 40:59Speaker 2: The basic I know you liked this movie. Don't think
- 41:02Speaker 2: you like the second one, but both Blade Runners.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Yeah, the first Blade Runner I very much like. Back
- 41:07Speaker 1: to two thousand and one Space Out of See that
- 41:09Speaker 1: same therapist that told me about Ghostbusters, he told me
- 41:12Speaker 1: he took acid and watched two thousand and one Space
- 41:15Speaker 1: out of Sea and sat on the floor, laid down
- 41:19Speaker 1: in the front row and just watched the entire movie
- 41:22Speaker 1: on acid.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you're my therapist.
- 41:24Speaker 2: If you're like, I think this is gonna be our last.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Sesson mad Max Furry Road.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Which I did see in theaters. Did you get Did
- 41:33Speaker 1: you see that one in theaters?
- 41:34Speaker 2: I did not.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Did you see it yet?
- 41:35Speaker 2: I did see it?
- 41:36Speaker 1: Yeah? I love it.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's definitely a good movie to see
- 41:39Speaker 2: in the theater with all the action. I watched that
- 41:41Speaker 2: far chase or well, I don't know, not car, but yeah,
- 41:44Speaker 2: their vehicles in the in the desert and all that
- 41:46Speaker 2: stuff with the sound sound was definitely.
- 41:49Speaker 1: And I remember watching that with my ex and I
- 41:52Speaker 1: was just smiling and I looked over to her and
- 41:54Speaker 1: I was like, this is the greatest thing I've ever
- 41:56Speaker 1: seen in my life because it's like there's like a
- 41:58Speaker 1: forty five minute just action in sequence and it never
- 42:01Speaker 1: lets up, and it's a lot of practical effects. There's
- 42:05Speaker 1: very little cgi in that movie actually, you know, it's
- 42:07Speaker 1: a stunt work. It's all the classic things that you
- 42:10Speaker 1: would get in old Hollywood. So that's definitely one I
- 42:13Speaker 1: would love to see again.
- 42:14Speaker 2: And then the last one was Titanic.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Did you see that in theaters? What?
- 42:20Speaker 2: I don't know, really, I might have.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't remember. Twenty years ago, nineteen ninety seven,
- 42:26Speaker 1: seven years ago, I remember, I don't know. I was fifteen, Okay,
- 42:29Speaker 1: I was younger, and I remember because I remember Kate
- 42:31Speaker 1: Winslet's breast.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Well, that's why you remember it.
- 42:35Speaker 1: I remember my grandma covering, trying to cover my eyes.
- 42:38Speaker 2: You're like, no, no, I'm good, I'm good. I'm good.
- 42:39Speaker 1: It's historical. These are historical breasts.
- 42:43Speaker 2: This is a historic you know movie here.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I started three D a few years ago, so you
- 42:48Speaker 1: got three D breasts. It's fantastic. Oh man, that's a
- 42:52Speaker 1: lot of people don't like that movie. I love Titanic movie.
- 42:55Speaker 1: I love it. I think it's it's a masterpiece. I
- 42:58Speaker 1: got some other honorable mentions. A few of them I
- 43:01Speaker 1: actually did see in theaters, Jurassic Parks, which I've seen
- 43:06Speaker 1: a lot in theaters. I've seen several different anniversaries. I
- 43:09Speaker 1: saw when I was re released in three D. I
- 43:11Speaker 1: saw it when I was four and a half years old,
- 43:13Speaker 1: so I was young and I remember it, but I
- 43:16Speaker 1: don't remember all of it. I'm very young, so I
- 43:19Speaker 1: wouldn't of mind have been a little bit older. I
- 43:22Speaker 1: was like eight or nine years old, would have been cool.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Nineteen ninety three, okay, so I was eleven, And did
- 43:30Speaker 1: you see it in theaters?
- 43:31Speaker 2: You had to have again? Remember, I do know that
- 43:34Speaker 2: I saw the newest one in theaters.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Terrible, the last one that just came out like two
- 43:39Speaker 1: years ago, I think, so yeah, that was I think
- 43:41Speaker 1: the worst movie I saw that year, if I remember correctly,
- 43:44Speaker 1: and then the previous one was actually the worst movie
- 43:46Speaker 1: I saw that year. I fucking hate those movies. And
- 43:49Speaker 1: I love Jurassic Park. It's my top five favorite movies.
- 43:52Speaker 1: So that's definitely what i'd want to see again. Happy
- 43:54Speaker 1: Gilmore is one i'd want to see again in theaters.
- 43:56Speaker 1: I remember seeing that with my father and my brother
- 43:59Speaker 1: and just laughing our ass. If we went to all
- 44:01Speaker 1: the Sandler movies when I was a kid, we saw
- 44:04Speaker 1: Gilmore water Boy Wedding Singer Big Daddy, And uh, it's
- 44:09Speaker 1: unfortunate that no, because that was right before Gilmore, so
- 44:13Speaker 1: we had to rent that one. But it's unfortunate that
- 44:15Speaker 1: A his movies kind of sucked these days, and B
- 44:18Speaker 1: he's on Netflix exclusive guy.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Yeah, he went he went down. He made a lot
- 44:22Speaker 2: of bad movies after he made a lot of good ones.
- 44:25Speaker 2: It was at Jack and Jill. Oh my god.
- 44:27Speaker 1: You know, it's funny. I've talked to a few people
- 44:28Speaker 1: here that love Jack and Joel really and I'm like,
- 44:31Speaker 1: you need to go to therapy.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Yeah, watch Jack and Jill again.
- 44:37Speaker 1: It's terrible Jack and Joel. It's actually uh, it's like
- 44:42Speaker 1: a weird scheme. Actually too. There's so much product placement
- 44:46Speaker 1: in Jack and Jill because it's done by Sony. And
- 44:48Speaker 1: I watched a whole video this this YouTube channel, Red
- 44:51Speaker 1: Letter Media, which is my favorite YouTube channel. They review
- 44:54Speaker 1: movies and they just broke down just how awful. It
- 44:57Speaker 1: seems like a weird scheme that Adam Sandler just gets
- 45:00Speaker 1: money for plugging you know, Sony products and Coca Cola products.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Very very interesting look back, but that, you know, that
- 45:07Speaker 1: first Sandler movie I saw in theaters is something I'll
- 45:09Speaker 1: never forget. A few other ones. I mentioned this one
- 45:13Speaker 1: earlier with the poster, and that would be Batman, which
- 45:16Speaker 1: I did get to see last year. It was celebrating
- 45:19Speaker 1: I guess it's thirty fifth anniversary and it was released
- 45:23Speaker 1: during Batman Day, which I guess is the thing. They
- 45:25Speaker 1: released like four or five different Batman movies in theaters,
- 45:28Speaker 1: and I've seen every single Batman movie in theaters from
- 45:31Speaker 1: its initial release except Batman nineteen eighty nine. So luckily
- 45:35Speaker 1: I did get to see it eventually, but it was
- 45:37Speaker 1: in like a dingy theater with only three or four
- 45:39Speaker 1: people in it. I would have loved to have seen
- 45:41Speaker 1: it when Batmania was sweeping the nation in nineteen eighty
- 45:45Speaker 1: nine and every kid had all the Batman toys and
- 45:47Speaker 1: the Batman you know, t shirts and posters. And I
- 45:52Speaker 1: remember seeing Batman Returns in a drive in theater, which
- 45:55Speaker 1: is the only time I went to go to see
- 45:56Speaker 1: a drive And I saw Batman Forever in theaters and
- 45:59Speaker 1: Batman and which was terrible, then all the Nolan movies,
- 46:02Speaker 1: and I really love the latest Batman movie that came
- 46:05Speaker 1: out with Robert Pattinson.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Didn't see it.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Fantastic, really fantastic. It is a work of art.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Wow.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Visually, it's probably the best looking movie of the last
- 46:13Speaker 1: twenty five years. Okay, I'm gonna go on the record
- 46:16Speaker 1: and say that it is a visual masterpiece. It's not perfect.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I don't like Bruce Wayne in it. I like Robert
- 46:22Speaker 1: Pattinson's Batman a lot, and the villain the Riddler is fantastic.
- 46:25Speaker 1: But who's that Paul Dano, who's a really good actor.
- 46:29Speaker 1: He played Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and the
- 46:31Speaker 1: Brian Wilson biopic. He was in There Will Be Bloody,
- 46:36Speaker 1: and he's been in a few other movies. He was
- 46:38Speaker 1: in Dumb Money, the movie about the.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Yeah with jesseurg No, no, no, no no. It was
- 46:43Speaker 2: the other kid that played clits On in Girl next Door.
- 46:49Speaker 2: He played the main guy in Dumb Money.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Dumb Money, that's the one. Yeah, yeah, Yeah, that's Paul Dano.
- 46:54Speaker 1: The to the Moon Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, that's Paul
- 46:56Speaker 1: Dano Girl next Door.
- 46:58Speaker 2: I like him. Yeah. I think he's a good actor.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he fantastic. He plays the Riddler, does a great job.
- 47:02Speaker 2: I can see that.
- 47:03Speaker 1: I would have thought Emil Hirsch, speaking of Girl next Door,
- 47:05Speaker 1: I think I would have thought he'd be a lot
- 47:07Speaker 1: more famous than he was.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Yeah, he didn't really do much.
- 47:09Speaker 1: He's a pretty decent actor.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:12Speaker 1: So those are some of the movies I definitely would
- 47:14Speaker 1: want to see. One other one honorable mention is King
- 47:17Speaker 1: Kong from nineteen thirty three.
- 47:19Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I mean just to be with an audience in the thirties,
- 47:22Speaker 1: where yes, there were special effects movies before that, But
- 47:26Speaker 1: to go from you know, those those dinosaur movies from
- 47:30Speaker 1: the nineteen twenties, you know, The Lost World and movies
- 47:33Speaker 1: like that, to what nineteen thirty threes Kong did is
- 47:37Speaker 1: such a leap in technology and to see that on
- 47:40Speaker 1: the big screen definitely would have been a treat. So
- 47:44Speaker 1: let's get to the main event, the three movies we'd
- 47:47Speaker 1: want to see in theaters for the first time with
- 47:50Speaker 1: an audience. I'm gonna start, Jonathan, go ahead with The Exorcist.
- 47:57Speaker 1: I love The Exorcist, is my favorite horror movie of
- 48:01Speaker 1: all time. And I hear the stories. I hear the
- 48:04Speaker 1: stories of audience members seeing this for the first time
- 48:08Speaker 1: and losing their shit.
- 48:09Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, they like throwing up in the.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Theater, were passing out, They were just they were they
- 48:15Speaker 1: never saw anything like this because movies in the sixties
- 48:18Speaker 1: for the most part, were so tame. Then by the
- 48:20Speaker 1: late sixties they start to get a little more violent.
- 48:23Speaker 1: You know, your Bonnie and Clydes and movies like that.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Started to come out. But when the seventies turned around,
- 48:29Speaker 1: that's when you got all these visionary film directors. You know,
- 48:32Speaker 1: your Coppolas, your Scorsesees. Even George Lucas at the time
- 48:36Speaker 1: was a you know, a revolutionary filmmaker. And William Friedkin
- 48:40Speaker 1: is right there with the Exorcists, and they're doing some
- 48:43Speaker 1: crazy stuff in this movie. I mean, this woman, this
- 48:45Speaker 1: young girl, she's a teenager. She's literally taking across and
- 48:49Speaker 1: stabbing her private parts with blood coming out of it.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I mean, imagine seeing a movie like like a Chitty
- 48:57Speaker 1: Chitty Bang Bang, like four years prior to that, and
- 49:00Speaker 1: you go from that to The Exorcist. It's like night
- 49:03Speaker 1: and day. So I would have loved to have been
- 49:06Speaker 1: there to see it when it went down and it
- 49:09Speaker 1: made so much money and it was just a juggernaut
- 49:12Speaker 1: of a film. I mean, Linda Blair got nominated for
- 49:14Speaker 1: Best Actress at the Academy Awards. She was the youngest
- 49:17Speaker 1: nominee ever at the time, and that's certainly one I
- 49:20Speaker 1: would love to just go and see, like an older audience,
- 49:23Speaker 1: an audience that was fifty sixty years old and remembers
- 49:28Speaker 1: watching movies when they were silent going from that to
- 49:31Speaker 1: the tame fifties and sixties era to that Exorcist.
- 49:34Speaker 2: And I don't even I don't even think you want
- 49:36Speaker 2: to go watch the movie. You just want to watch
- 49:37Speaker 2: everybody's reaction to the audience exactly.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I just want if people screaming and giggling and
- 49:45Speaker 1: are you have you seen The Exorcist years ago? It's
- 49:49Speaker 1: It's one of my favorites and one that if I
- 49:52Speaker 1: watched by myself at night two am, I'm losing my mind.
- 49:57Speaker 1: I've freaked out.
- 49:58Speaker 2: It is uh, just very ear all the lights on,
- 50:01Speaker 2: all the lights immediately on after.
- 50:03Speaker 1: And then looney Tunes have to be on.
- 50:05Speaker 2: So when you used to watch a movie like that,
- 50:07Speaker 2: I'm sure we all did this. When you were like
- 50:09Speaker 2: younger and then you had to like gulfstairs to your room,
- 50:11Speaker 2: you always ran up.
- 50:12Speaker 1: The same run, run full speed and have to turn
- 50:17Speaker 1: on something like as.
- 50:19Speaker 2: You're flicking the light off, you're you're doing it in
- 50:21Speaker 2: a run, like you're already three steps into your run
- 50:24Speaker 2: and smacking the light down and then running and jumping
- 50:26Speaker 2: on your bed like okay, I'm okay, I'm right, I'm okay.
- 50:29Speaker 2: I think every person did that, and if they say
- 50:31Speaker 2: they didn't, they're lovely liars.
- 50:33Speaker 1: And and I still do that. Actually, that's the other thing.
- 50:37Speaker 1: The scary thing is I told you I watched these
- 50:39Speaker 1: movies in theaters by myself. If I watch a really
- 50:41Speaker 1: scary movie by myself, then I have to get in
- 50:44Speaker 1: the car, you know, looking around, like who's in there?
- 50:46Speaker 2: Looking in the back seat, make sure it noways laying
- 50:48Speaker 2: down ready to kidnap you.
- 50:50Speaker 1: So I got Exorcist number one or one of my three.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Let's go with one of yours now, all right.
- 50:55Speaker 2: So you already made fun of me last time I
- 50:57Speaker 2: was on for this movie, saying it was one of
- 50:59Speaker 2: my favorite of all time, the Wizard of Oz. And
- 51:02Speaker 2: the reason that I would want to see this in
- 51:04Speaker 2: movies is I actually mentioned this to you. I personally
- 51:08Speaker 2: thought it was the first movie ever done in color.
- 51:11Speaker 2: I found out it was not. It was the first
- 51:14Speaker 2: full length movie that used technicolor. There was. The first
- 51:19Speaker 2: one ever in color was a nineteen oh eight, eight
- 51:23Speaker 2: minute British short. Uh it was it cold? I had
- 51:28Speaker 2: it here.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Well, whatever it was, it clearly didn't have the impact
- 51:32Speaker 1: that the Wizards.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a visit to the seaside eight minute
- 51:36Speaker 2: British short film released in nineteen oh eight. Then you
- 51:39Speaker 2: had the animated snow White was the first full length
- 51:44Speaker 2: color movie with sound in nineteen thirty seven.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Which was a juggernaut and you know, put Disney on
- 51:51Speaker 1: the map for sure.
- 51:52Speaker 2: But the actual so the first color movie like full
- 51:56Speaker 2: length is considered The World, the Flesh and the Devil
- 51:59Speaker 2: from ninth teen fourteen, but that used some other kind
- 52:04Speaker 2: of color, Kinema color, okay, and it wasn't the same
- 52:09Speaker 2: as the technicolor.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it doesn't look good.
- 52:11Speaker 2: And you could just think, like when you watch The
- 52:13Speaker 2: Wizard of Oz, you're like, okay, I'm watching another black
- 52:16Speaker 2: and white film and then all of a sudden Oz
- 52:19Speaker 2: comes out and it's just all these colors and everything
- 52:22Speaker 2: like that. And again I already said it's one of
- 52:23Speaker 2: my favorite movies. But I think that because that changed
- 52:27Speaker 2: how movies were made, and just to see everybody, like
- 52:30Speaker 2: you said, everybody's expression the theater when they get to
- 52:33Speaker 2: Oz and you're just like wow.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, because I'm I know, movie trailers have been
- 52:39Speaker 1: around forever even before Wizard of Oz, but they were
- 52:42Speaker 1: done completely different, okay, And I'm going to assume that
- 52:46Speaker 1: majority of the audiences had no idea that this was
- 52:49Speaker 1: not going to be a black and white movie, especially
- 52:51Speaker 1: if you're watching the first twenty five minutes of it
- 52:53Speaker 1: and it is black and white. You don't expect that
- 52:56Speaker 1: jump to the beautiful technicolor which has aged tremendously. Watched
- 53:00Speaker 1: The Wizard of Oz, which I did in theaters a
- 53:02Speaker 1: few years ago, and it's just as beautiful as it was,
- 53:05Speaker 1: you know, extraordinary, you know, sets and costumes and great characters.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I mean those characters are iconic.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, just.
- 53:14Speaker 1: The silhouette of them. You don't even need to see them.
- 53:16Speaker 1: If you just see a silhouette of them, you know
- 53:18Speaker 1: exactly who they are. It's the most famous movie of
- 53:21Speaker 1: all time.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I agreed, And uh, that's why I would want
- 53:24Speaker 2: to see it.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I have no issue with that. You've never seen it
- 53:28Speaker 1: in theaters, not even for any release. No, damn, I
- 53:30Speaker 1: wish I knew you a few years ago. We could
- 53:32Speaker 1: have went together for Judy Garland's one hundredth birthday. Now,
- 53:37Speaker 1: I used to as a kid. I used to get
- 53:39Speaker 1: stoned and watch The Wizard of Oz sync it up
- 53:43Speaker 1: with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
- 53:44Speaker 2: I never did it, but I've obviously heard that. Yeah,
- 53:47Speaker 2: and is it Is it an experience worth trying or not?
- 53:50Speaker 1: Yeah? I would say so, especially if you're with the
- 53:53Speaker 1: right people, because we would do it, and you know,
- 53:55Speaker 1: we'd be at my friend's house and it's just this
- 53:58Speaker 1: goofy atmosphere and I don't even know if it really works,
- 54:01Speaker 1: but in your mind it's working, like she's looking at
- 54:04Speaker 1: certain things and then the songs are changing, and he
- 54:06Speaker 1: had surrounded sound, so when she would look like from
- 54:09Speaker 1: side to side the sound of and I love Pink Floyd.
- 54:12Speaker 1: They're one of my favorite bands, and that's one of
- 54:14Speaker 1: my favorite, if not my favorite album of all time.
- 54:16Speaker 1: And uh, when they actually get to OZ, that's when
- 54:19Speaker 1: the song money kicks in, which is a bad as
- 54:22Speaker 1: tract exactly, so right when she opens that door money,
- 54:26Speaker 1: it's fucking awesome.
- 54:27Speaker 2: So it's got to be weird though, because you obviously
- 54:29Speaker 2: watched the movie with no sound on because you're.
- 54:31Speaker 1: Just and then you have to click play when the
- 54:36Speaker 1: MGM Lion does its third roar, you can't play on
- 54:39Speaker 1: dark side, and then we usually give up, like you know,
- 54:42Speaker 1: once the album ends, because you're not going.
- 54:43Speaker 2: To like, oh, it doesn't go the whole movie.
- 54:45Speaker 1: I don't even know. Maybe I don't know. We usually
- 54:49Speaker 1: so I want to say the album is shorter than
- 54:51Speaker 1: the movie. But like I said, we probably gave up
- 54:54Speaker 1: and stopped watching and you know, played video games or whatnot.
- 54:57Speaker 2: And you know, that was just some random dude on
- 54:59Speaker 2: drugs one night list into Pink Floyd and it was
- 55:01Speaker 2: like this goes. He's like, yeah, this goes.
- 55:03Speaker 1: I don't know who was the first guy to figure
- 55:04Speaker 1: that out.
- 55:05Speaker 2: And some sober person did it and they're like, what
- 55:06Speaker 2: was this guy talking about. I think it was your
- 55:09Speaker 2: therapist that sorted He's like, wait, this actually goes to
- 55:14Speaker 2: the movie.
- 55:14Speaker 1: And then his person that he's working with is like
- 55:18Speaker 1: telling serious like issues in their life, like I want
- 55:22Speaker 1: to end my Life's like, yeah, but have you watched.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Dark Side with It'll it'll turn it around. It'll turn
- 55:26Speaker 2: your life around.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Let's get to a comedy, because I talked to my
- 55:33Speaker 1: audience with the film reel last week about how little
- 55:36Speaker 1: comedies are out there and how bad they are, and
- 55:40Speaker 1: my favorite comedic actor is no longer around and I
- 55:44Speaker 1: never had the pleasure of seeing him on the big screen.
- 55:48Speaker 1: So if I'm going to pick one movie of his,
- 55:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with the nineteen ninety five classic Tommy Boy.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Chris Farley, Chris.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Farley, David Spade do well. It's not just the comedy,
- 56:01Speaker 1: but it's got heart to it. You feel for Tom Callahan,
- 56:04Speaker 1: he loses his father and it could be emotional and
- 56:07Speaker 1: it's got you know, it's got great chemistry between Spade
- 56:11Speaker 1: and Farley, and who knows what they would have done.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Chris Farley is one of those what ifs? What would
- 56:16Speaker 1: he have done? When you have became a serious actor,
- 56:18Speaker 1: you look at, you know, guys like Bill Murray, You
- 56:21Speaker 1: look at guys like Eddie Murphy, guys that have put
- 56:23Speaker 1: on Oscar caliber type of performances. Even Sandler and Uncut
- 56:26Speaker 1: Gems a few years ago put on a really good performance.
- 56:29Speaker 1: Farley had the acting chops. You see him cry in
- 56:31Speaker 1: Black Sheep a few years after Tommy Boy, and he's
- 56:34Speaker 1: given a decent performance. So he actually was going to
- 56:36Speaker 1: be Shrek. I don't know if you know that he
- 56:38Speaker 1: recorded ninety five percent of his dialogue and then died,
- 56:41Speaker 1: and they have a bunch of test footage out there,
- 56:44Speaker 1: and it's one of those movies I would love to
- 56:46Speaker 1: actually have be released is the Farley Cotton Yeah, but
- 56:49Speaker 1: then he died and they're like, listen, if we're gonna
- 56:51Speaker 1: make sequels on this. We got a recast and they
- 56:54Speaker 1: got another SNL guy, Mike Myers. But I would love
- 56:56Speaker 1: to watch this movie with an audience in theaters because
- 56:59Speaker 1: I want to let with a crowd, and I this
- 57:02Speaker 1: is my favorite comedy of all time and just getting
- 57:05Speaker 1: to see Farley, who's so larger than life, and I
- 57:08Speaker 1: never got to see him in the largest form on
- 57:10Speaker 1: the big screen. I'm hoping they release it in theaters
- 57:13Speaker 1: this year for a thirtieth anniversary. I can't believe it's
- 57:16Speaker 1: thirty years since Tommy Boy's been out. But it's one
- 57:19Speaker 1: I actually picked up on VHS last year and it's
- 57:22Speaker 1: one of my favorites. It's a family favorite of ours
- 57:25Speaker 1: and definitely one i'd want to see on the big screen.
- 57:27Speaker 2: So you obviously still have a VCR. Yeah, that's impressive.
- 57:31Speaker 1: I just took my grandma's VCR as a whole debacle
- 57:34Speaker 1: because my VCR stopped working. And some of them are
- 57:37Speaker 1: pricey actually believe, especially if you have the controller that
- 57:40Speaker 1: could be you know, fifty sixty bucks, and I asked
- 57:43Speaker 1: my grandma, who's ninety six years old and hasn't turned
- 57:45Speaker 1: on her VCR in thirty years. I said, Grandma, can
- 57:48Speaker 1: I please have this VCR? No? No, I said, please.
- 57:51Speaker 1: You're never going to use this. In fact, last time
- 57:54Speaker 1: you tried to use the DVD player on it and
- 57:56Speaker 1: it was a whole catastrophe. Her helper, her aid, couldn't
- 58:00Speaker 1: figure it out. I had to turn around my car
- 58:02Speaker 1: and figure out how to get off of the DVD.
- 58:05Speaker 1: So please, can I have this? No. Three weeks go by,
- 58:09Speaker 1: my mom visits and she says, oh, Nanny says, you
- 58:12Speaker 1: can have the VCR. Thank you, Thank you, Nanny. Then
- 58:15Speaker 1: we're watching Miracle on thirty fourth Street. I say, can
- 58:19Speaker 1: I have that VCR? She said, okay, sure, I unplug it.
- 58:22Speaker 1: Granted it's only plugged into the electrical outlet. It's not
- 58:26Speaker 1: connected to the TV. Has been connected to the TV
- 58:28Speaker 1: in four or five years. I unplug it. Ten minutes
- 58:32Speaker 1: go by, the streaming of Miracle on thirty fourth Street
- 58:36Speaker 1: starts buffering. She goes, that's because you want to put no, Nanny,
- 58:41Speaker 1: it has nothing to do with that. It's it's like
- 58:44Speaker 1: it wasn't even connected. It's just the streaming, like the
- 58:46Speaker 1: Internet must be bad. Oh okay, yeah, ten minutes go by,
- 58:50Speaker 1: it buffers again. Now this doesn't have to do with
- 58:53Speaker 1: because you unplugged it. Like listen the Wi Fi vcr
- 58:58Speaker 1: fi but the VCR is fantastic.
- 59:01Speaker 2: So yeah, Tommy Boy was a great movie. Spade and
- 59:04Speaker 2: Farley were They just work so well together.
- 59:07Speaker 1: And they have such a weird dynamic off the screen because, uh,
- 59:10Speaker 1: Farley obviously had his drug issues and he was clean
- 59:14Speaker 1: actually during Tommy Boy, but they had a volatile relationships.
- 59:17Speaker 1: Farley seems like a handful. He seems like a guy
- 59:20Speaker 1: you'd want to hang out with and then you wouldn't want.
- 59:23Speaker 2: To small dose.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 59:26Speaker 2: He seems like he can get out of control.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Loud, and he eats a lot, and he's just you know,
- 59:30Speaker 1: doing drugs and uh, but they they were actually beefing
- 59:34Speaker 1: on the set of Black Sheep and Farley was supposed
- 59:37Speaker 1: to be in a few movies. You're supposed to be
- 59:38Speaker 1: a cable guide and Jim Carrey took that role and
- 59:41Speaker 1: who knows what he would have done, but definitely one
- 59:44Speaker 1: of those movies. I mean, Johnathan, this list could change.
- 59:47Speaker 1: I could think of one hundred movies. Of course i'dn't
- 59:49Speaker 1: even pick. And I'm gonna say it because I think
- 59:51Speaker 1: you might actually pick this one. There's one movie though
- 59:54Speaker 1: definitely could easily be on this list, but we're gonna
- 59:57Speaker 1: save it. So what's your number two movie you'd want
- 59:59Speaker 1: to see in theater?
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: Just real quick? The best part of watching a comedy
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: in the theaters is when everybody is laughing so much
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: that you actually miss you have to rewatch the movie
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: because you miss so many jokes because you're laughing. And
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: the last movie that I saw that I remember like
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: that is And I don't know if you I've definitely
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: brought this up to you before, and I'm not sure
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: if you like it. But were the Millers.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: Never saw it, never saw Jason.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: Sedakas, Jennifer Amiston dying las Yeah, like again, how to
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: watch it? Because I was like, I don't remember that, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh yeah, because everybody was laughing for
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: ten minutes straight and you know, you missed the next
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: three four jokes. And I'm a big Jason Dagas fan,
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: and I thought the movie was was hilarious and great
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: and just I like his type of comedy.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I think the two hardest laughs I've ever had in
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: a movie theater would be bor At Okay and Jackass two.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I was stoned out of my mom with my buddy
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Tylerry watching both of these movies. But Jackass. I love
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: the Jackass movies. Those are my guys. I thought the
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: last one that came out was one of the funniest
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: movies ever. I think they're all hilarious, but Jackass two
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: to me is by far the best.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: And they're nuts, those guys are.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: They're insane, out of their minds. And and now you know,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Steve O's sober and he's still doing this stuff. So
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: all right, what do you got? Number two?
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: So originally I wrote down Rocky.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I was the one I was.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: However I need to see However, I think I would
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: rather see Rocky four, only because again, now you're in
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: an audience with people, right, they've seen the other Rockies,
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: the first one, of course, you know it's the first
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: time you're seeing it. It's a great movie, Rocky. But
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: the ending, right is, I don't I don't even remember
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: now he he doesn't correct, But that's the beauty.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: I get it.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: But to see everybody's reaction when he beats Strago in
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: a movie theater with you know, the big sound and
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: the lights and everything. I think I think I would
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: have to pay Rocky four if I had to pick a.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Rock with a very pro American crowd, that would be great.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, with Trump and a couple other people.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be That would be fun.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not going to watch it in Russia.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: I'm not gonna go to Russia to watch it. That
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: would probably be a different Uh.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Change, you can change, change, man. I love Rocky four.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I did a whole Rocky series on the film reel.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Rocky is my favorite film series of all time. Okay,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the first one is my favorite. I would rank it.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: This is how I believe I had the ranking, the
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Ranky Rockings, the Rocky rankings. Definitely one was one. I
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: want to say three was number two. I love clubber Lang,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: mister T. I love thunderlips in the flesh.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: And that's when the tiger is that when Drago kills
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: that's the beginning of four.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: That's the beginning. Okay, So three is uh, mister mister T.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: And then the eye of the tiger, Apollo helps him
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I would rank and this is the hot take here.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna rake Rocky two, which no one talks about,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: as my third best one. Wow, and then I'll put
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: Rocky four.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, that's I know. It's a hot and I
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: love Rocky four, and I love the score of Rocky
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: four by Vince Nicola. It's it's a Bill Conte. Bill
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Kanti rather did the music for all the Rocky movies
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: except Rocky four, and Rocky four is a very synth
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: heavy film score. And I actually interviewed Bill Conti on
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: a radio show years ago. He did the film score
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: the Transformers of the movie was my favorite movie of
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: all time. Terrible movie, but I love it. Old one
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: from eighty six, favorite movie of all time. But Rocky
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: four is no story for the most part. So it's
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: like it's like an hour fifteen minute montage and it's great.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: I'm not saying that.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: It goes from one training scene to the other. I
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: love it. I'm not saying I don't like it, but
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: it doesn't have the story that one and two have.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: One and two we're like really great movies. Three and four,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: our cartoons come to life. Five is terrible. Yeah, I
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: still love it. Six is really good.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Actually, was that Rocky Ba or just Balboa? Rocky Balboa,
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: Rocky Balbo. Yeah, okay. Fantastic five is with Tommy Gunn Yeah, okay,
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: So I.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Would I would go one, three, two, four, six, five,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: And then the Creed movies are fantastic.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: I didn't see the last one, Go one two three, yeah, okay, Yeah,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Creed was a very very good movie.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: The problem with three is there's no Rocky. He needs
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: the loan in that movie. And and I don't even
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I love those characters so much. And I was so
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: sad when Pauli died a few years ago, and when
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Apollo Creed, you know, Carl Webers died last year. I
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: was so upset with that. And and those characters are
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: so good that you don't even to me, I don't
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: even need Rocky to be a boxer in the movie.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I'm so I just love that character. That. Yeah, he
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: obviously can't fight in the ring, even though Stallone probably
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: would want to. What's the problem, Like, I'm eighty years old.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: I'm an eighty year old boxer, you know. But I
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: think those characters are so good that you can have
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: him just you know, owning his business or having a
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: relationship with his son, and I think it.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: Works that way owning a gym, right.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Just yeah, he got fucked over with that. That's why
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: he wasn't in Creed three. He makes like nope, well
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: it doesn't make no money. But he didn't own any
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: of the rights to Rocky So he gets screwed royally
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: out of out of what could have been, you know,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: a billion dollars. He doesn't get any of it.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Well because he wrote Rocky Road and he did it
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: himself because nobody would let him be in it, and
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: he wasn't going to let anybody else do it, right, Yeah.
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but he doesn't have any of the steak and
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: the merchandise or any of them.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: I'll tell you. For as old as he is now,
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: which would you say, seventy five eighty?
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I think seventy five.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: You ever watched Tulsa King, No, I heard, it's terrible.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: I like it. I enjoy it. It's I mean, I
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: saw it's a no brainer show. Yeah, but he's a
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: mafia guy, goes to jail for twenty five years and
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: they send them they basically like screw them over and
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: send them to Tulsa and he becomes the Tulsa King.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: But I mean, yeah, he couldn't do a boxing match.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: But he's still in great shape for as old as
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: he is. I mean, he's never gonna not be in
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: good shape.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: He's on so many steroids. Well, yeah, so he's got
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: three smoking hot daughters.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: One of them's in it. Actually, oh yeah, one of
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: them's in it.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I don't know which one, so maybe I'll have to
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: watch just for the daughters. So Rocky four interesting, interesting take.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: I remember talking with my father about him seeing the
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: first Rocky in theaters and how into it the crowd
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: was and they're all chanting because you know, they want
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: they want Rocky to win. And I think he was
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: talking to me about Rocky two in particular, because they're
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: both knocked out on the ground and it's a standing
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: ten count and they both have to try and get up,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: and I remember him just telling me how crazy the
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: crowd was, and it's just I love that movie. The seventies,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: although not my favorite decade for movies, probably had the
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: best movies of all time. I'm an eighties guy. I
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: love this the schlocky, shitty eighties type of movies, but
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: the seventies. That's when you had like Art. You know,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: your Dog Day Afternoons, your Surpicos, your Godfather's, your Rockies, Jaws,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: films like that.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: They had good stories to them. Now we watch movies
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: and it's like, what's the story? Or I've been saying
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: this a lot recently, is these movies have good premise,
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: they're just not done properly.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: The last ten minutes of Rocky is one of the
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: greatest endings ever et Close Encounters with the Third Kind,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Rocky and Field of Dreams are the four, in my opinion,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: best endings to any movies of all time. And Rocky
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: it's just everything, the music, the no Adrian, we did it.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: And like you said, I could picture people in the
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: movies basically acting like they're at the boxing match, like
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: you said, yelling stream and cheering, like not watching a
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: movie like you're out of boxing match.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: That movie changed lives. I mean, there's a reason why
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Sylvester Sloan is in the Boxing Hall of Fame because
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: of that movie. I mean, it rejuvenated a sport which
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: was falling from grace. You know, you still had Ali boxing,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: but he was a shell of his former self. And
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: when people think of boxing, they think Ali, they think Tyson,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: and they think Rocky. Yeah, he's that iconic. And I
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: know so many people that started exercising. I mean when
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I started exercising again recently, I listened to my Eye
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: of the Tiger, and if I'm on my stationary biker
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: lifting my weights, I'll listen. Oh, I'll rather watch on
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: YouTube montages of training.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: You're not punching slabs of meat in the freezer.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: That's for after I'm beating my meat. Let's move on
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: to our number three movie that we want to see
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: in theaters for the first time. And this is a sequel,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: so you mentioned the sequel actually quickly before we get
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: to that.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: One.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: One movie that was awesome and it's recent. The latest
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Evenge movie was such a fun thing to see in theaters.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: Whichever was The last one was that game. It was
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Abnity Warrior. Then Endgame that I did see in the
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: movie that was freaking awesome. Man, crowd going nuts, sold
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: out show. You couldn't get tickets for days for that show.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: I luckily got like a back row seat on a
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: random day and luckily it wasn't spoiled and audience was
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: going nuts. And it's it was. There really hasn't been
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: an experience in the movies for me, at least since then.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: My Number one is a sequel, and I was debating
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: which one to go with.
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: I think I know you're gonna say.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: And it has arguably the greatest twist in any movie.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: It is the Empire Strikes Back.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: I did not know you were going to say that
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: one Terminator.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: Which would have been awesome as well, which I did
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: get to see in theaters a few years ago they
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: re released it. I've never seen an Empire. I've saw
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: a New Hope. I saw Jedi. I didn't get to
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: see Empire during its special edition in ninety nine, nor
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: would I want to. I want to see the original
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: cut from nineteen eighty Empire Strikes Back, which is by
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: far my favorite Star Wars movie. In fact, I think
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Star Wars is the most overrated franchise of all time.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: It's two and a half good movies and the rest
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: are pretty much shit. But I love Empire Strikes Back.
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: Han Solo is perfect in that movie. He's just a
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: badass womanizer who is just smooth as silk when he's
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: about to be frozen in carbonite, Princess Lea says, I
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: love you, and he just looks up and says, I know.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: Oh that's just the g right there, So so so great.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: You have the introduction of Bubba Fett, you have the
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: introduction of Lando Calrisian, and you have the introduction of
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: my personal favorite Star Wars character, Yoda. And seeing that
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: character must have been so jarring for audiences because you're
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: hearing about this Jedi he has to be trained by
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: this Master Yoda, and you're expecting this, you know, badass character.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: You just saw Darth Vader. So this guy's gonna train
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Luke and he's got to be the twice the size
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: of Vader. And then he's this Kermit the Frog guy
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: and you don't even know who he is. You just
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: think he's this, you know, obnoxious asshole. He's like messing
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: around with Luke's stuff, he's gone through his flashlight and
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: then you find out, no, this is Master Yoda right here.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: And it's such a good message. It's like, don't judge
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: a book by its cover. Just because he's goofy and
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: small and green at eight hundred years old, he's more
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: powerful than any of these Jedis ever, so it's got
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: that lesson, but the main thing that Darth Vader reveal
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: of him saying, no, I am your father. If I
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: was in the audience for that. Wow.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Unfortunately, I can't. I can't add anything to this conversation.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: You Star Wars.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: I've ever seen a Star Wars whoa No, never whoa
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: just not my uh, not my cup of tea. And
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: I just never watched them.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: I'm assuming Jackie is Jackie has never seen any of that.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with no, you don't like sci fi?
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Not my favorite genre, but I mean I will watch
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: you know sci fi movies.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Empire. It is beautiful, beautifully shot. John Williams is the
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: greatest film composer of all time. He got the great
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: film score. Carrie Fisher fantastic to look at all, coked
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: out of her mind. It is its perfection visually, storytelling wise,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: it's it's everything together. And Star Wars was the biggest
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: film series of all time. In that original movie which
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: made more money, but it was such a juggernaut and
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: just the build up, like, okay, Star Wars comes out
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy seven, and then you have to wait
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: three years, and I couldn't imagine that whole build up, like, oh,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: they're making another one, what is this gonna be, what's
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: gonna happen? How are they going to continue this series?
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: And then it lived up to the hype. How many
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: times have we seen movies we have one good movie
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: and you're waiting for the sequel, and it's just, oh,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: never is good. No, we shouldn't have made a sequel. Yeah,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: I mean, you have Aliens, you have Terminator two, But
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: for every one of those, you have, you know, a
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: die Hard too instead of a die Hard. And I
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: don't mind die Hard too, but it's not die Hard.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: You have Leath the Weapon too, which isn't as good
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: as Leath the Weapon. And those are good movies. There
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: are terrible sequels that are just god awful. Why would
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: you make this? But Empire Strikes Back? Would love to
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Travel nineteen eighty Watch that with a sold out crowd
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: opening day.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Actually, one of my favorite movies is a sequel. I've
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: definitely told you this before. But Bad Boys too.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: I remember you saying that, Yeah, is that going to
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: be your number one must see?
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: No, I did see that in movie theaters. I remember
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: you remember that that one. I remember I remember I
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: was with my cousin and his friend and I want
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: to say we were in I want to say we
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: were in like Maryland. I think my buddy went to
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: college down there. Yeah, and we were like, we gotta
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: go see it. Actually, I've seen every Bad Boys in
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: the movies. The third one was the worst, and the
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: last one was. Yeah, not as good as the first two,
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: but not as bad as the third one. No, So
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: I head down, which you mentioned as an honorable mention
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: was Jurassic Park. But I think my third one is
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: going to be which it just happened to be on
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: TV the other day and I saw it, and I go,
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: this movie would be badass to see in the movies.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: And that is Saving Private Ryan. Just all the action
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: and the gunshots and the you know, people getting shot
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: and body parts blown up, and just on the big
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: screen with that sound. Sound, the sound. Yeah, so I
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: would go with Saving Private Ryan.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: Another Spielberg movie. You know, we mentioned Jurassic Park, and
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Saving Private Ryan is one of those movies that didn't
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: win Best Picture. It lost to Shakespeare in Love, which
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: nobody talks about that shitty movie. And it's just why
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: a war shows really don't mean anything. To me, in
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: the long run of things, Saving Private Ryan is a
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: movie that gets played every single year. Anytime there's you know,
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: the fallen Soldier, you always think about, at least I do.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: I think about that movie and just the hardships that
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: these guys had to go through. You know, even today,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: you know, modern military, although drastically different than what they
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: were doing back in nineteen forty four. Uh, these guys
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: have so much courage and bravery and the sacrifice that
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: they put out there is in something that I know
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: I definitely could not do. And that movie is brilliant.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: And it's not just the action, it's the whole ensemble.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Cash You have such a great cast. I mean Vin
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: Diesel's in it, believe it or not, very young Vin Diesel,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: but I mean Matt Damon's great. Tom Hanks is one
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: of my favorite. Tom Sizemore was out of his mind.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: I think he passed away a few years. He's struggling
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: with a lot of addiction issues. But that is such
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: a guttural type of movie and I think it yes, yes,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: And I've heard people that were actually storming the beach
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: of Normandy talk about that experience while watching the movie.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: After watching the movie and they say, this is it.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: This is very realistic what it was, how it happened.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Yep. And the crazy thing is, and this is something
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: that got brought up a few years ago when Alec
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: Baldwin accidentally killed that person. They talked about how Saving
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: Private Ryne there was actually no gunfire being done. It
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: was all computer generated.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: All the guns were rubber, if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: So I mean that was a movie that came out
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: almost thirty years ago at this point, nineteen ninety eight. Yeah,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: so I think we could get away from from actually
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: using real, real gun.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: I mean, like you said, the CGI and everything nowadays
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: you got you know, fake animals, and you know you
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: can't you can't fake a gun.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Yeah, there's apps that you could do on on your
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: phone that where you can make like rockets, shootout and
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: you could have guns. Spend a little money, get it
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: to you know, be safe, because you know, it's just
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: a shame when accidents like that happened. But I love
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: Saving Private Ryan And it's definitely one of those movies
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: that I can't watch often because it's it's just that
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: in Schindler's List, there are two of those movies that
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: are Spielberg masterpieces, and they're not the glitz and glamour
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: of a summer block bluster type of movie. It's not
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Jurassic Park, it's not Raiders of the Lost Arkids, more
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: of like, damn, I'm so glad I didn't have to
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: go through that type of life.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I couldn't imagine.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: But Jurassic Park is definitely. Uh, it's another one I'd
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: want to see for sure. Anything else that jumps to
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: mind that we missed out on the Rocky one is
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: one that I'm looking at it. I probably want to
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: see Rocky over exor System more I think about it.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I love Rocky.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: I do you not love Rocky?
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: I don't know. You wanted to see everybody passing out
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: and throwing up, and.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: I've never seen any of the Rocky movies besides Balboa
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: in the theaters. They re released Rocky four in theaters
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: because they had a director's cut and I had fucking
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: bowling that night, so I couldn't do it.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: You could have did it, and you could have told
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: me what the experience was.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Know. Oh, I know, I missed out and it was
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: like a sold out crazy showing apparently my buddy Ray
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: who works at the radio stations, Tommy, he went to.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: People probably walking in with American flag draped over their
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: backs exactly.
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: We missed out. So we'll see if there's any movies
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: in the last you know, ten years that you know,
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: twenty years from now, thirty years from now, people will
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: be talking about. I wish I saw that. I think
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: the big one that comes to mind is that Avengers movie. Yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: I think that's one that people will be saying. I
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: really also think Wicked. I think I think Wicked's gonna
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: have a staying power, don't. I don't know if Barbie,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: as popular as it was, is going to be talked
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: about ten fifteen years from now, But I could see
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Wicked because theater kids are crazy, man.
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: I mean, listen, Wicked's been on Broadway for what twenty
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: five years now, so it's not like it's going anywhere. Yeah,
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: but yeah, I don't think the Barbie movie is going
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: to be talked about.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: But it made a ton of money.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Well yeah, I mean, all you have to do is
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: put something out, I mean for kids, even though it
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: wasn't really a kid movie.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: No, my niece hated it.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: I wanna say. It wasn't a kid movie, but it's
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: it's named Barbie, so you know, every girl between five
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: and fifteen is gonna be like, could we go see this?
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: Yeah? You know then even parents who grew up with
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: Barbie to My mom's a big Barbie fan. So we'll see.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: We'll see. If you know, maybe thirty years from now
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: we'll do a part two of this thing. I think
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: he did fantastic on this.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Thank you. I have one question for you because I
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: gave you. I gave you a couple of movies to watch. Yeah,
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: and I watched A Time to Kill Time to Saw.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: I want to know what you thought.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Okay, this was a film starring Matthew McConaughey and Samuel L.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Jackson where Samuel Jackson's character's daughter is brutally raped and
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: she was going to get killed. I guess they were
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: going to lynch her. And this takes place in the South.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: I want to say Alabama. It could be mistaken. It's
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: a modern day, so the movie took out place in
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: the nineties, in the nineties when those filmed, so it's
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: not like a fifties or forty seven. And we're gonna
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: get into spoilers real quick.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: If they haven't seen it by now, well, I never
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: sew well even though you haven't seen it. But ninety seven,
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: I didn't know what it was. It was Mississippi, by
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: the way, it was.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Mississippi, sipp So the daughter gets away, she doesn't get killed.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: But Samuel Jackson is informed about this happening, and basically,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: these two rednecks who were the ones that did it,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: get arrested, and he realizes these people might get out
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: because they're white men in Mississippi, and even if they
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: get convicted, they might get out in ten years, or
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: they might get away with it. So he goes into
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: the business for himself and kills them. He gets a
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: machine gun, which I thought that scene was a dream
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: or an imagination.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: I hadn't no idea it happens. I didn't know walk
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: right into the court house.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: I've seen scenes of this movie, and I thought it
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: was about the court case involving her rape, and I
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: thought it was going to be about them not being convicted.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: I had no idea it was a murder trial that
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: was to be happening. So he brings a machine gun
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: into the court before I guess they're going into the courtroom,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: kills them too, and then blows off one of the
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: cops legs and white cop who ends up being a
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: hero of sorts and saying like I would have done
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: the same thing he was.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Also, the Ku Klux Klan is part of it.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: What about it?
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: I'm saying, that's a big part of the movie. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: yeah're in the cross In McConaughey's long.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Yes, So the brother of one of the rapists contacts
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: the Ku Klux Klan and sort of raises hell for McConaughey,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: who's the lawyer who's taking up for Samuel Jackson, and
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: he's you know, the clan is sort of running wild
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: and attacking Sandra Bullock, who's a young wanna be lawyer
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: who's helping McConaughey, and you know, it's it's obviously a
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: far fetched story in the sense that if a guy
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: goes into a courtroom with a machine gun and kills
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: two people, they're not gonna have him get away with it.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: I don't think it matters if he's black or white.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: It's just it's a little far fetched. For me. I
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: personally would have felt maybe the story would have First
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: of all, I really liked the movie, I want to
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: say that. And the acting was fantastic. What a cast, Yeah,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: cast is insane. This is like every single scene is like,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: oh my god, there's that guy. There's that guy. Oh
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: he was in that. Yeah. One big story after another
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: and a lot of stars that are getting started like
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: that was definitely Sandra Bullock one of her first movies
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: for sure. Maybe she was in Judge Dread the Year
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: or not Judge Dread Demolition Man, which is a great
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: McConaughey was just getting started as well. I wish there
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: was more Samuel L. Jackson. That was an issue I had.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: I don't know if we needed this fake love sort
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: of thing with Sandra Bullock really didn't lead to anything.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: Wasn't necessary in my opinion. I think it could have
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: maybe worked a little bit more. And obviously they're going
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: for this as part of the plot and part of
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: the trial. If Samuel L. Jackson caught these two guys
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: raping the daughter and then he killed them and then
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: that became the trial, because it would have been not
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: that I felt sympathy for these guys, but it's like
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: he just murdered two people. It's so over the top, like.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's no way you could be on their side.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: You gotta be on Samuel Jackson's side, even though he just.
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: Gone on my Yes, I'm on Samuel Jackson's side because
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: if that happened to my daughter, I'd want to do
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: the same thing. But also it's like, this is kind
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: of stupid, Like he just murdered two people and shot
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: off a CoP's leg in broad daylight without them even
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: you know, going to trial. So I think it would
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: have been a little more realistic or just believable, and
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: more rooting for Samuel Jackson, not that I wasn't rooting
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: for him, but it was good and it had a
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: satisfying ending, and it was a good recommendation for sure.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: That and I think when you watch some of these
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: movies that were made in the mid to late nineties
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: even early two thousands, and you see some of these
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: casts and you're like, because again they're just starting off,
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: But then when you actually watch it now, you're like,
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: how did they get all these people? Yeah, it's like, Wow,
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: it's crazy, Like Kevin Spacey, Oliver Platt, Charles S. Dutton,
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: who is he? The Rock? Dead Dad from something? The Rock?
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: Who was it?
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: I'm not sure, but then I mentioned.
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: Pigeon Lady from Lady, that piece of trash. Keifer and
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: Donald Sutherland love he plays a good bad guy.
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: He's great. You want to always he's always a great
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: bad guy from Lost Boys and stand By Me. He's
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: very unlikable. I wonder at Ashley Judd, who I feel
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: bad for her because it's like she did nothing wrong
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: really and McConaughey is pretty much going to cheat on her.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: Uh what what? What's the budget for this movie? I
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: want to look that up a time.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: It was based on a John Grisham novel.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I was. I was reading up about it and
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: it did make a lot of money. One hundred and
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: fifty two million dollars on a forty million dollar budget. Yeah,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: So I wish they made more movies like this, you know,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: smaller type of films that were story driven and you
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: don't need crazy special effects. It's just great actors all together.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's just great. And that's just a movie that, like,
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: to me, when you watch it, like puts a pit
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: in your stomach. Yeah, because you're just like, oh my god,
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: like how could they do that? And then, like I said,
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: you're rooting for a guy who just murdered two people,
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: and then all the stuff that happens with the Ku
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: Klux Klan and everything with McConaughey and that it's just
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: like you want to punch somebody. Yeah, like that's what Like,
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: that's the feeling I get watching that movie. But I
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: thought it was such a good movie.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: And justice is served for people that are wondering. It's
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: it's not like, uh, Samuel Jackson gets put in jail,
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: he gets a quick of the murder was again, would
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: never happen. I would assume I would like to hear
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: from like an actual lawyer. They do a lot of
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: those things on YouTube where real lawyers go over law
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: scenes or okay, and I find stuff like that fascinating.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: They'll have real doctors go over doctor scenes and movies,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: or palaeontologists go over dinosaur movie scenes. I wonder what
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: a real lawyer would say, like what actually would go down?
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: Like I haven't seen the movie in a long time,
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: but I think they use insanity.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, that was the thing that he.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: Was so out of it because of what happened to
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: his daughter. Yeah, I mean, obviously you think it's premeditated.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: When the guy walks into the courtroom with the gun.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: How could you be insane? But I guess on the
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: letter of the law, he could have been temporarily insane
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: when he did the act. So I would like to
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: hear I'm a fake lawyer, so I can't I can't
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: help you on that.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: And this is where because I watched Chappelle Show and
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: they had the Samuel Adams and then Samuel L. Jackson
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: beer and then he says the line, yes, they deserve
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: to die and I hope they burn in hell. And
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: I didn't know where that was from until this movie.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: So for that reason alone, I'm glad I watched the movie. Jonathan,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: thank you so much for joining me on this filmer.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: We're gonna have to have you back.
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: Listen now, we'll come back as long as you'll have me.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: Well, you had a great performance, so we'll have you
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: back soon. Have a good one, all right,
